Even though the story itself presents reasons why we shouldn’t blindly trust heroes (Endeavor literally right there) 🤦

Like, the story presents characters being oppressed and the ultimate response to their plight is constantly, “Just be a better victim.” The whole situation with Touya and Endeavor + what Deku says to Touya, is absolutely insane to me.

It made me sick to see people saying, “This is what Touya always wanted.” This is what people are taking away from the story, when many people who grew up being abused and didn’t fit the “perfect victim” criteria will tell you how fucked up that ending was.

As for your thoughts, 100% agree. I feel like a big part of the problem is that the story spends so much time setting up systematic issues and then just..drops them? Acts like they don't exist? And instead it redirects all blame and reason to indovidual problems, like Endeavor for example. Touya became a villain because of Endeavor..but the conditions under which he became a villain could have been massively prevented if the ranking system didn't exist and if so much value hadn't been placed on it. Or if the wealth and privilege that being a hero had brought to Endeavor hadn't let people turn a blind eye to his bullshit. Because are you really telling NO ONE had even an inclination that something was wrong in that household? Really?

This also applies to Tomura. In the beginning The Walk where he spent some amount of time on the streets without anyone helping him seemed very important to his backstory. He didn't become a villain just because his father was a pos, he becane a villain because the state of heroism led to a society that glorified heroes to such an extent that people didn't help a bloody kid on the street because a 'hero would'. But instead most of his memories Deku interferes w are about the Shimura household instead of the very important bystander syndrome. And THEN to top it all off, we learn the stupid 'AFO orchestrated Tomura's whole life' thing. I cannot find the right words to express just how much I loathe that.

Anyway, Touya and Tenko are just two examples. Overall, the story chooses to resolve individual problems (and how well even those are resolved is certainly debatable) and frame them as the leading causes of villainy when its mostly systemic issues that cause it and then act like there were no systemic issues in the first place. I mean, literally no one has a problem with the HPSC casually having private assassins to commit extrajudicial murder, so. Guess Nagant should have just been "optimistic" and waited for someone to, idk, topple the literal government.

hmm okay so to me it’s a combination of a few things let me try to get it all, I’ll add onto this if I forget some major dynamic!

Firstly, it’s that Cas just kinda admires the way he is, the cruelty, the way he enjoys making people hate him, the disregard for most people around him while still having a sense of honesty and lawfulness, if that makes sense. The way that he’s manipulative but there’s room to have proper business with him too. The arrogance and superiority with which he carries himself that at the same time was never disrespectful or applied in the same way to Cas himself. It always kind of…. reminded him of his own kind honestly, and even if Cas himself is less like most devils than Gortash is in this manner it still gave him a sense of familiarity almost even so far away from his home. This plus the inherent superiority he feels over mortals usually but it’s almost like… “hmm this one isn’t so unlike my kind” with Gortash which is why he even agreed to deal with him in the first place, because he never quite just saw him as “some mortal”. He also, even if he’d never admit this, is really drawn to the way that Gortash can manage to be dominant in public even next to CAS out if all people. how he still manages to be the assertive one, the sweet talker, the way he takes control in any type of social gathering naturally etc (some inherent introvert thing going on here w Cas honestly LMFAOO)

Secondly, I suppose there’s this whole underlying dynamic of them complementing each other really well in their approaches and their goals, making them pretty much perfect business partners so Cas was always intrigued by that. I love seeing the kitty post again bc it reminded me of an incredibly old hc of mine. Akira is like “(whispering)Ann. There is no way in fucking hell i am letting you strip naked in front of someone we dont know and dont trust (yusuke). Like that is just not happening.” And theres like a beat before akira is like. Out loud- ‘Let me do it instead.’ Which Yusuke immediately agrees too

Bc Akira 1) literally has to go to the bathhouse nightly bc the cafe does not have a convenient shower in its tiny washroom; he does not care in the slightest about stripping in front of anyone. 2) Ann JUST joined this team, and she is automatically placed in the position of ‘family i want to protect’; he would never forgive himself if something actually happened to ann, even if he thinks Yusuke is at worst, an eccentric little man. And 3). Yusuke is pretty 👉🏾👈🏾 he is so pretty and he wants to hang out w the w pretty boy and talk to him :) and if Yusuke spends the whole time complimenting Akira and his body that is an extra bonus

His acting is way better than Anns, and so some time during the painting, hes like !! ‘I think i heard something’ and rushes to get his clothes on in a very believable fit of panic. And its enough to make Yusuke believe Madarame came home early, which in turn makes HIM panic (which makes akira SO upset; that is not a look he wants to see on Yusuke ever again). And as Akira is running around trying to find a way out (finding the Door blocking them in the palace), he spots Mona struggling w the door and NEARLY freaks out.

“Is there a back door somewhere? I wont be able to jump out of a window and I dont want to bump into him trying to leave through the front.”

“N-no there isnt,” Yusuke says, stammering a bit “but you can just stay in my Room until he settles in-“

“Will he NOT check your room?”

Yusuke looks VISIBLY distressed. “Yes. I-I mean, no, he may search my quarters, but he will most certainly check THIS room; its safer to be caught in my room than for us to be caught in this one.”

And Akira is like. Why is that? With the facade gone, Yusuke will admit later down the line that he was more scared of Akira in that split second than the possibility of confronting his sensei. “You live here. Youve lived here for years? And Madarame has a room that, if you walk into it, is a death sentence in your eyes. Because you know thats not outside the realm of possibility.”

Yusuke sees Morgana behind Akira w a little pick in his mouth and he can hear the door creaking open.

“Yusuke. You know this.”

He refuses to comment.

Suddenly, Akira hears Real footsteps. Ones that he is sure belongs to Madarame. And its different when hes Pretending to run for his life, its another when he KNOWS hes in danger.

“Morgana. Inside.”

Yusuke sees the cat scamper inside the room before he feels Akira grip the front of his shirt and yank him inside, past the decorated door.

Akira is already on his phone, searching for the app, when Morgana pulls the string to illuminate the room. He sees the paintings. And he can see that Yusuke has seen them too. Hundreds of them lining the walls. Copies upon copies upon copies upon copies littering every inch of this room.

When Madarame comes in, he gives some half hearted excuse, and when Yusuke sees through it, threatens them. Akira, not keen on having Yusuke hurt(and NOT keen on having this boy yelled at), drags him by the hand outside of the room, away from the screaming and onto the streets. He says “trust me, please” and before Yusuke can nod his head, hes falling.

Ann thinks its so funny. Ryuji rushing to catch Yusuke as he plummets into the palace, and hes like “WHAT. You are Not Akira,” as he puts him down. Followed by Akira himself crashlanding into Yusukes arms. Hes visibly shaking, but hes a mix between scared shitless and unbearably giddy.

“Hey. You trusted me.”

“I dont think I had much of a choice, if I am being honest.”

And Akiras like youre right. You really didnt. But I promise you, starting now, you will have a choice. I want to help you, I want you to have agency in your life. And its really scary taking that first step (punching shido, standing up for someone else. Confronting your abuser, standing up for yourself) but im going to make sure its worth it. I swear to god im going to make sure its worth it.

And like. TBH. Akira cant help himself. Hes a sucker for pretty faces. And unfortunately for him, fate has put every fucking pretty face with a sob story in his path and he CANT just leave them there !

hi hello pran autism anon here again!! i just watched ep 4 again and i noticed at the scene when pat comes to give pran his earphones, and lets himself in, pran repeatedly expresses his distaste at the fact for two reasons. yes, he doesn’t want pat infringing on his privacy or messing up his meticulously arranged living space. but it's the other reason that intrigues me when looking at pran through an autistic lens. he repeats that pat entered without being let in. he's very bothered not only by pat's actions, but also the fact that pat is breaking a social norm. as an autistic person, i find that i tend to feel uncomfortable when i see other people not follow social norms, which i feel is because i've had to consciously learn these and remind myself to follow them for years. i feel like pran is having a similar internal experience here, where he's seeing pat do something that isn't considered 'socially acceptable', which bothers him because he has a script in his head that he's built up over the years, and this doesn't follow the script that he uses to dictate what is and isn't okay to do, what does and doesn't get him acceptance from his peers etc. he then comments that pat 'has no manners'. i think this is a pretty common thing that many autistic people have experienced, being told we have no manners because we unconsciously broke an unwritten social rule we never learnt about. pran, in my opinion, can't help but project the rules he's learnt to help himself fit in and mask onto other people. it might be a very small detail to focus on, but it's something that really got me thinking.

So

Pran and his room: from the lens of autism

1. As someone with autism, social rules and norms that we agree with are set in stone. So your analysis about Pat breaking a social rule makes a lot of sense. Especially when you see the other interactions at the food stall and music shop (you're not supposed to sniff people????????????)

2. It's also likely that he's very transparently present in his room. For people with autism, our rooms are our safe spaces and worst nightmares because they reflect so much of who we are. If they are messy, It's our mess. If it's organized, It's customised to our space. Rooms, dorms and other living spaces are basically a self portrait.

Which is why when Pat dares enter and sneak a peak at his barest self, lit with fairy lights and faces telling him how to smile, rituals along every curve and table, he feels scared. What if Pat notices his smilies and thinks he's still a child (he should have overcome the hyperfixation by now? Will Pat understand?) What if Pat notices his coffee stained couch and calls Pran on being an imposter who only pretends to get angry at messy stains. There's so many ways Pat could see behind his carefully constructed masks.

His apprehension from pat entering could be from not letting Pat see him.

And that's also why he holds the social norm of asking before entering so close to his daily functioning; revels in the safety of enforcing this rule rigidly.

[I sometimes liken this to the idea of a nest in the omegaverse where it's extremely personal and reflective of the person making it. I also love the omega verse so much because it takes a lot of neurodivergent traits and makes them seem normal and that's just another post altogether]

3. When Pat and Pran finally get their shit together Pran let's Pat change his room and make the space theirs. It's the biggest declaration of love if I've ever seen one. He let's Pat put up photos and shares his bed and doubles the Pillows and makes space for Nong Nao. All because he's ready to allow Pat in his space. Across the rituals. Inside his safety.

4. The fact that the most crucial of the moments (The Kiss, The Bet, The Ming) happen away from the safety of his room goes along with this and his canon OCD.

If you're living with OCD, safe spaces can turn into compulsions at the sight of threat. And the fact that he was so adamant on keeping the relationship behind closed doors felt a lot like stemming not just from his anxiety about his parents but also his imposter syndrome: It's a glitch in the matrix that Pat likes me back and we should not test the matrix lest it remind Pat I'm an annoyance that he rather not deal with.

If you have autism, the safety of your room provides familiar and clear cues that could be helpful if an emergency is to arrive (I could just start talking about the rotting food if conversations get tougher// I could go to my own washroom and pretend to take my time if I feel overwhelmed). These safety nets are not present Outside.

And it is through his autism that Pran shows his love to Pat.

He let's Pat break his rules constantly. Not because they don't cause him discomfort. They still do. But his love for Pat is just greater than that.

He will let Pat drag him outside. Let Pat post photos of him. Let Pat make a mess on his kitchen table. Go with Pat to an unknown room.

As Anon said, these rules and norms and safe spaces are all in place because of being reprimanded for being neurodivergent by the neurotypical system builders. They are precautions to avoid being hurt or being called out on the fact that they don't belong.

But Pran doesn't feel hurt in Pat's presence. Because regardless of if they are friends or enemies, they've always belonged together.

Mayuri Kurotsuchi (Bleach) - Chapter 4

"(Y/N)-san, are you alright?"

You sent a thumbs up at Nemu.

"Hai!!"

You were grinning despite your tattered robes and the clear bruises are over your body. When Mayuri stepped into the room he gave you one look.

"What is the meaning of this!"

You were still beaming.

"I'm here for my check up, Kurotsuchi-taicho."

There were literal flowers blooming around your body which was a complete contrast to your appearance.

"I can't conduct the proper experiments when you're in such a horrendous state. Come with me."

"Hai!!"

You followed behind him with a pep in your step and Nemu just watched with a small smile.

Maybe your elation is due to your new reassignment. You never thought you'd be this happy, even though you're clearly hurt from a mission that you've just returned from. It is obvious that you should have gone straight to the fourth squad, but you'd reported in here first.

"What a nuisance." Mayuri muttered.

Your eyes lit up when he sat you down and his hands began to glow that familiar emerald light.

"Kurotsuchi-taicho, I didn't know you could do healing kidos."

"Of course, I'm not some low level imbecile. Sit still." He ordered.

You obeyed, still wearing a happy grin.

"I'll assume that you are happy to be back out in the field. It would explain your clear reckless behavior. If you get mangled then all my precious research would be for nothing."

You could understand that.

"Gomen, I'll be more careful."

Your sunshine energy was really starting to become a frequent thing. Mayuri glanced at your face. When he looks at you he's reminded of how defeated you were when these experiments first started. He really shouldn't care if you're happy or not. However, he can't deny that he prefers this look on your face.

Not that he cares.

Of course he doesn't.

It's ridiculous to even suggest that.

"Despite the clear injuries her wounds are healing faster than expected."

Mayuri isn't ignorant to your power, everyday there seems to be something else he learns. Information that he can implement for future reference. Given how many wars they have survived, it always paid off to be careful.

He finished fairly quickly, and the moment you realized you turned to him with a salute.

"Arigatou! So what crazy experiments do you have planned today?"

He was still looking at you a bit inquisitively and you blink. It's rare to see him space out like this.

"Kurotsuchi-taicho?"

He finally lowers his hand, bending over and leaning closer slightly. You flush at the lack of distance.

"W-What's wrong?"

Mayuri squints.

"Are you in any pain?"

You shook your head.

"No, I feel fine. You just healed me didn't you?"

"I did, but before that, were you in pain?"

He finally straightens, folding his arms and you hum.

"I guess not. I got tossed around a few times because I let my guard down, but other than the initial hit it didn't really hurt. Rukia kept insisting that I see Hanataro but I really am fine."

He taps his finger on his arm.

"You are quite the specimen. Your body seems to have adapted quite nicely. By shattering your blade that day, your reiatsu may have reinforced your power. In a lot of ways you should be thanking me." He boasts.

You light up, jumping to your feet as you grab his hands.

"Arigatou Kurotsuchi-taicho!"

This smile is as bright as the first and Mayuri frowns.

"You're very simpleminded aren't you?"

"Compared to you, definitely."

Most people would not readily agree to that clear insult. You release his hand, and he finds his eyes following them.

The warmth that once encompassed his usually cold palms.

It's irritating how those little gestures seem to be intruding his thoughts lately. He has never viewed any of his experiments as more than that. Nemu was quite honestly the only one he had any attachment to.

But Nemu is different.

This is different.

"How infuriating."

His statement confuses you.

"Is something wrong?" you question.

Mayuri just turns.

"Come, we need to continue with the tests."

"Ah, hai, hai!!"

You follow obediently.

He needs to be careful.

He's afraid he might end up acting on these impulses.

PAIRING: Vape dealer Haechan x reader

Note: I've not at all proofread this and wrote this at like literally ass crack of dawn, an old scenario I made up in my mind and haechan seemed perfect for it (also I just realized I have no haechan fics here and that inspired me to finish this and post it soon lmao)

"Alright, enough for today" Haechan says as he snatches the vape from your hand. "I've had only ten puffs, give it back", you exclaim, struggling to snatch it back from his hands. Haechan pockets the electric device which you're so eager to smoke from again. "I've agreed to do this on one condition, only ten puffs, and you did accept it so there's no going back unless you want to back out", he shrugged his shoulders as he reminded you of your agreement again and you sighed, accepting your defeat.

If you tell your past self that in a few months since Haechan joined the school you'd be vaping with him on a random rooftop as a routine, she would've just laughed and brushed it off. But here you are, sitting beside the guy, who looked so good in his messy uniform, the top button undone and open, his nutty brown locks all over the place, sitting comfortably with his legs crossed, his beautiful features at peace as he feels himself flowing with the cool breeze. It's unbelievable how a person can be so pretty, his flawless chocolate brown skin, his soft pink lips, make you go feral.

As your finals were nearing, the stress and pressure augmented tenfold. The anxiety of completing the syllabus, on top of that, the many problems in your social life has placed you over the edge. In your weakest moment, you did what you would've never thought you'd do. You approached Haechan, one of the most popular vape dealers in your school, for a vape. Needless to say, he was very surprised. You would've gone to other dealers, but something about Haechan exuded trustworthiness and a feeling of safety. You both are also in the same class, so you felt a sense of familiarity. You didn't want any risks, and so, he was your last resort.

But Haechan just didn't want to sell it to you. He didn't even know you properly, but this made up perception of you in his head: the sweet and kind girl with perfect grades, the one who always smiles around, the one without a care in the world, made it difficult for him to sell it to you. He didn't want you to end up like those addicts who can't function without a few puffs. He didn't want you, out of all people, to mess up like that. And so, he did something he never thought he'd do: make a pact for vaping with you on a random rooftop whenever you feel too stressed.

And that's how you ended up here again. The strong and sweet grape flavor of the smoke you just sucked out of the stick in your hand filled your mouth and calmed your nerves. But it was accompanied by an unexplained thrill, and an increased heartbeat, which makes you crave for more. But Haechan is always present to keep you in check. After he decides it's enough for the day and grabs the vape from you, you both just sit there, making a silent agreement to stay up here for a bit more.

All the stress in your body flew away along with the smoke you puffed out. The sky looked like a crimson orange canvas, with hues of pink complimenting it. You were relaxed, sitting over there, staring at the beautiful scene above. But in contrast to your relaxed state, you can feel your heart rate increasing. And you don't understand if it's because of the thrill the vape gave you, or if it's because of the person beside you. Your brain chose to believe the former. But your heart chose something else.

You looked at the ethereal man sitting beside you, only to see him already staring at you. His dark brown eyes gaze lovingly at you, as you swim and get lost in its warmth. No one says anything to interrupt the ongoing intense, but peaceful silence. With your heart racing at an incredibly high speed and adrenaline gushing through your veins, your hand slowly made its way to his. He didn't waste any time in interlocking them. So many words were spoken, so many emotions were silently poured. Even though everything around you might seem in a state of frenzy right now, one look at him is all you need to calm down.

I was fine with my best friend's girl because jily wasn't together... but dude my heart broke for James in this one. She's not only physically cheating on him but emotionally also. I didn't feel bad for Lily or Sirius, but cried I for James. He was clearly uncomfortable with the way he was fidgeting with his tumblr, but loved her too much to deny her cheating on him. I know you want to convince us he's okay with it, but I just couldn't see it in my pov. It was hard to read a fic where James loved her more than she loved him, and reminded me of unfaithful by rihanna... and Sirius doing that to someone who took him in when his family kicked him out... like mate why would you do that?

I'm sorry I just hate cheating, and I can't ever justify it 😭😭😭

Hi, anon! Thank you for giving my story a shot! :)

First, let's clarify a couple of things from the text:

James wasn't fidgeting because of Lily and Sirius. This happens before he hears anything about it - unless we assume that just because they're in the kitchen together, he imagines something is happening? But he literally has no reason to do that - the narration makes it clear that this hasn't happened before, that Sirius is their best man etc.. So no, that's not it.

James is fidgeting because that's what he does - Sirius's POV explains us that a sign of half-drunk James is that he doesn't fidget, so then when he decides to sober up and go home, he's back to his usual habit.

In fact, the whole scene before Sirius and Lily interact is supposed to give out the whole bleak mood of war and hopelessness that leads to Sirius wallowing in misery and coming back to thoughts about Lily that he normally does an excellent job of banishing.

Sirius knows that James is okay with it, and even points it out in his POV that if James wasn't okay with it, Lily wouldn't do it. Lily prioritizes James always. She feels comfortable with Sirius, she loves him and cares about him, but she's not going to give up James for him. And the fact that she does this whole thing with Sirius is for his benefit, and what hurts her isn't that she can't have her cake and eat it too, it's that she wishes this could be enough for Sirius because that's all she can give and she's sad that it can't make him happy.

That said, a few more things:

I think it's well-established by now that I am one of the staunchest proponents for soulmates, never-had-eyes-for-anyone-else Jily. Most of my Jily is super fluffy, it's first kisses, it's James falling for her the first time he lays eyes on her, it's Lily noticing James throughout the years and discovering just how wonderful he is, and honestly sometimes it pains me to read stories where they date other people or they're not each other's first etc.. I have to exercise caution when I read that sort of fic - it's usually stuff by people whose writing I love and trust, or short oneshots where I know everything will be over soon and I don't have to dwell on it too long. Or, you know, sometimes I just appreciate the heartbreak. It can be cathartic.

Which is why I understand that you might have been expecting something similar from a new story of mine and been surprised and even upset it wasn't it. I admit that the snippet and summary don't give you an explicit setup for the story, which was a stylistic choice, if I'm honest. It's a story about deep feelings, and it would be weird to have the summary be like "Sirius is feeling lonely, so Lily, who is married to James, decides to spend the night with him." I mean, technically it's what happened, but you'll agree it doesn't quite convey the vibe, does it?

I did write in the post that the story is Sirius/Lily and rated E, though. And the AO3 entry contains tags such as "Married James/Lily", "Ex Sex", "Sirius Black/Lily Evans smut" (I guess it's technically Lily Potter but I've used the tag like this before so I just recycled it), "not infidelity not open relationship but a secret third thing" so I think, going in, people know more or less what to expect. If it's not for them, it's not for them and that's fine. I appreciate SO MUCH the readers who stick with me no matter where the Muse takes me, but not everyone can do that and they shouldn't feel forced to.

You might wonder, of course - if this is how I feel about Jily, why did I write this story? I've talked before about why Lilypad intrigues me, but there's one more thing to remember - life doesn't always go the way we want it. And while romantic, fluffy Jily fic is wish fulfilment and makes me feel good, sometimes one wants to explore grittier situations and messier feelings. As far as I'm concerned, this story would never work as a Jily fic - have Lily sleep with James while she's married to someone else, knowing that she won't leave her husband for him? Oh hell no. That's not how I see Jily. And instead of trying to shoehorn James and Lily's characters into a situation that doesn't fit them, I think it's better practice to instead choose the characters this situation could work with. Admittedly, one of my greatest challenges with this story (as @jamesunderwater can confirm) was getting the characterizations right and making sure everything made sense in context. I didn't set out to write angsty smut for the sake of it (it just so happens that the story turned out much smuttier than I originally intended, lol) but I wanted to write all the feelings that went with it. The conflict of getting between two people, of missing someone you can't have, of wanting different things, of different kinds of love - I think all that can make for a beautiful story. (I don't know if what I wrote is, indeed, a beautiful story, but I tried.)

You're well within your right to hate cheating, and you're well within your right to consider what happened in this story cheating. (In my opinion, it's not. It's a messy situation but the term 'cheating' doesn't do it justice, because no one is being dishonest.) I have a feeling you're young, because I could never justify cheating when I was young either. Growing up and going through a few relationships taught me that things aren't always clear-cut, however. I wish I'd had a relationship like the one I envision for my ideal Jily - meet young, only face some high school drama, get married, be together till death do us part. The flipside is that I matured in a way that perhaps I wouldn't have if this had happened to me, and I learned to see different POVs and appreciate different situations. And I think all of this enriches my writing more than it hinders it. :)

i actually just read atyd. like finished yesterday. and i had been putting it off because of things i heard about it on twitter/tiktok.

and oh god i don’t know how many times i’ll have to remind myself that it’s easy to get on a soapbox and claim something is problematic (a term that imo has lost most of its meaning) without critical analysis or understanding of what fan fiction is.

also i think the person talking abt their perceived issues w/ atyd could be coming from people all over tiktok saying atyd dorcas is white. which i don’t even remember being described. and even if she was, i fully think the fic was written before pottermore described her as Black. like ofc the fic won’t match current things we know because it was finished years before the marauders got super popular.

definitely agree w u that the word "problematic" has lost most of its meaning lmao!! like....literally it means nothing without context. calling something "problematic" is the beginning of an idea, which should then be followed by an explanation of how or why you take issue with that thing. and yet i see so many people using it as if it's the end of an idea, as if saying "this is problematic" is some sort of Ultimate Conclusion. v frustrating!!

and yeah i have seen the "critique" about dorcas being white in atyd, but to me that is a perfect example of what i mean when i say half the "critiques" are in bad faith. because taking issue with the fact that dorcas isn't described as Black in atyd assumes that mkb

knew that dorcas was canonically Black

chose to ignore that canon information because she'd rather not write dorcas as Black

and that just....isn't true?

first of all, dorcas being canonically Black is not widespread knowledge outside certain specific circles of the fandom, and it certainly wasn't widespread knowledge (as far as i'm aware) back in 2017-2018 when mkb wrote the fic. in fact, last year, in 2022, when i started writing thtf (a fic in which dorcas is one of the main characters), i didn't even know that dorcas being Black was canon. i thought it was just popular fanon! this is because i literally could not find any canon information about dorcas meadowes' race. i was informed by a reader that the reason that info is canon is because there was, at one point, a picture of dorcas on pottermore. in 2022 when i was looking for that picture, it literally wasn't there.

so basically - thanks to one picture that was on the pottermore website for a limited amount of time, a small percentage of the fandom knew that dorcas meadowes was Black. if you were not part of that small portion of the fandom who knew about the picture, you had no way of knowing that dorcas had any specific race in canon. dorcas as a character has gained a lot of popularity over the past like...2ish years, but she's literally a side character with one single sentence in canon, and historically most people have not been doing deep dives into research about her if they're using her as a side-character in their fics. back in 2017-2018, dorcas was not nearly as popular and the info about her canon race was not nearly as widespread as it is now (and it is still, again, somewhat niche information contained to a small portion of the fandom at large!)

so the actual situation, to my knowledge, is that mkb just...didn't know about that picture on pottermore. dorcas was a fringe side-character, essentially just a name on paper, and her role in atyd was really not that important. this wasn't a situation where mkb actively chose to change the race of a character, this is a situation where she picked a random name from a random side-character, unaware that she was missing a niche bit of canon info, because--again--this was a fanfiction she was writing, not a hyper-researched published story. (for christ's sake, she fucking spelled "walburga" wrong--clearly she was just a person wanting to write a story about remus + sirius, not a fucking harry potter researcher who was trying to strictly adhere to every single bit of canon info out there on the pottermore website, y'know?)

okay final update:

fire rescue lieutenant that's been out here multiple times for this shit with her made her go to the hospital based on the fact that she couldn't answer "what year is it" and "who's the president" (it is, apparently 2003 and bush btw)

i had to sit around for about two hours which, in hospital time isn't actually that long. the rn and doctor both agree and believe that part of her current issue is because she's just not capable of caring for herself and thus, hasn't, despite my best efforts because like. they're fully aware i can't you know. force her to take her meds and drink water.

i explained to the nurse that i'd gotten mom a weekly pill organizer to help so all she has to do is morning/night and not worry about it and "instead if she remembers them at all she just takes them both at the same time" and the nurse was like 👁👄👁 "oh, oh noooo"

there's nothing coming up on blood work or brain/chest scans that show like "something reversible" as he said, IE "oh she's altered because she's got an infection and fever" or something. i explained that i think it's fallout from all the strokes, and that there's literally no telling how many she's had over the years because of reasons (too long not explaining here).

they're admitting her bc her bp and kidneys are god awful, i reminded them she's got stage four kidney disease on top of everything else.

the doctor has already mentioned she's most likely gonna need rehab once they figure out if her altered status is being caused by dementia or something and i asked if we can get her evaluated while she's admitted because once again, me, and the medical professionals see that she CLEARLY cannot make her own decisions any more and that her going AMA from the rehab shows this.

he said he genuinely doesn't know because that's not in his wheelhouse as an ER doc, which i understand BUT he also said he's going to chart it that an eval should be done.

i am going to leave a message w the PCP asking if there's anything she can do from her end about it.

bc this is. the thing that's causing all the problems, no one has officially in a medical capacity put to paper that she shouldn't be allowed to make her own decisions which means her just going AMA.

I was floored when I searched jjba in the site I usually watch anime at and there were so many options, i kinda got confused but i found a 'watch order complete guide' so that's fixed but i never knew jjba didn't have that many fillers? apparently, all the ova's related to the story so it's recommended to not skip anything, excited to watch it tbh, long continuity types r a grind but the complex storylines are pretty rewarding when they finish im p sure, excited to see the animation too tbh

and ohh u both watched the prev seasons together? were you both able to understand the plot properly? YAYAYAYA the certified best way to watch it is to watch part 1 & 2 (phantom blood + battle tendency in the same like period of time?? like dont take a break after phantom blood ends (by break i mean stop watching for a month) then you watch 3, 4, then the rohan kishibe ova's. if ur in it for the fact its jojo id say to watch the anime ova version, then to watch the live action one later whenever you feel like it- its jojo but not art so it doesnt really pack that exact same punch after the ovas you watch part 5 and then 6 the one thing i'll say about jojo (other than every other thing ive said :D) is that araki does not give a fuck he WILL kill the characters you love and he will NOT feel sorry even the main character isnt safe i honestly would not reccommend reading past part 6's manga because part 7, 8 and 9? havent been animated yet the mangas just good to read because its the original you feel araki's like self in it (more) or whatever

kira is VERY plot relevant. so plot relavant i insist you do not search him up at all it might be hard cuz ive been gassing him up but once you get there youll see why part 1/2 are different for a big reason which will become immediately clear 10 minutes into part 3 for that reason a lot of people say to skip the first two parts when starting but i just say No....? like. theyre plot relevant, they set the stage, and they bring in joseph and jonathan!!!! those guys are amazing and telling people to skip those part because what? cause its not like the rest is such a slap in the face them not being the same is the point!! part 1 and 2 are set way back like way back like with cowboys so theyre not going to have the stuff/ thing that made part 3 forward different because they just werent there technology wise!!! part 1 is such a charming part because jonathan is literally such a sweet heart like SUCH a sweetheart and part 2 is brought together by joseph and these other 2 characters (spoilers) plus part 1 is literally the most important season ever. i wont say why but. it is. season 3 only works because of the stuff it takes from 1 and 2, literally in show or just in like writing or art (as in the people from part 1 and 2, and the way the storys work) I AM RAMBLING.

anyway here’s a headcanon of a comprehensive timeline i worked out with bub of his time at the akademiya and then here’s a screenshot of me explaining it to lulu for u all BUT BASICALLY i hc that he starts at the akademiya at 16 and i figured him graduating in the standard 4 years would be impressive enough as is since lisa holds the record for like 2 years or something as fastest graduate and some ppl spend like until their 30s

BUT ANYWAY in his character story he goes to school as a kid but comes home and tells his grandmother it was boring and he wanted to be self taught and she agrees.

BUT i think baby haitham was much more sensitive and soft as a kid :( he’s actually rly kind as an adult i think most ppl in sumeru just miss it and think he’s some cold dude but he has rly strong morals and he just acts like he’s being practical all the time but i think he’s a bit more sensitive than he lets on in nature. and idk i like to think his grandmother sent him to school and was hoping for him to make a friend or two bc he had a hard time socializing bc he was a bit different from the other kids. but also i like the hc that ppl make that he’s like neurodivergent and the noise canceling headphones are to help w that so i think that also made it hard for him to socialize as a kid. so anyway i think he was bullied a bit as a kid—and on his first day of school which is why he didn’t wanna go back. idk i think it hardened him up and he adopted this attitude where he didn’t rly care what other ppl thought of him anymore and just preferred solitude bc the kids were always harsh. he’s definitely an introvert and stuff but every kid wants a friend i don’t think al haitham came out the womb like “i think socializing is dumb” u know ??

and then his grandma 🥹 i love her so much 🥹 she loved baking and he used to sit with her in the kitchen and help and they’d talk and he’d tell her about his books. they used to sit by the window when the sun set and drink tea together. when he was smaller, he’d sit on her lap and read books out loud to her and she’d always follow along with pride at how smart he was so young SOBS :( he was always tiny for his age so she used to carry him around on her hip. when he was 12 she got sick and he started to take care of her more and he also started to grow a bit bigger and she started to see more and more of his father in him.

when she died he hated living in the empty house without her and he enrolled in the akademiya for her sake more than his—altho he always planned on it just not so soon. and then when he got offered that house w kaveh he took it bc he wanted to move away from his childhood home bc it reminded him too much of her :(

also i think he avoids tea and baked stuff since her death bc it also reminds him of her. lmao so friday was a hell of day as in it had so amazing parts and some awful parts so uh this is going under a cut

so general outline we have: my ex being an ass to my friend, worst possible timing to start my period (as usual), literally no time at lunch, why is history so similar to now, one class that was actually chill, discussing people who don't know they've hurt you around my ex's boyfriend, finally establishing that we are in fact dating, design still does not have things for us to build, dinner w/ my friends, and the dance <3

ok so thursday night I ended up not doing any hw (which is fine since I didn't have any due soon) but uh that was because I spent most of the evening messaging with a friend in my partner/ex's friend group about how my ex was being shitty about my friend being ace (something they did to me several times)

when I get to school friday first thing I do is go over to my partner and their friends say hi and ask if they've seen the friend who was struggling thursday night they hadn't but after heading over to my friends we see them and we both give them a hug and we hang out with them until class starts and we joke that we should start a club for ace people who've been fucked over by my ex (I can think of 4+ people who would join)

anyway during one of my morning classes my fucking period hits which is just a pain and uh yay cramps and that explains why my emotions have been a bit fucked up

then during lunch I only have time to eat like half of my lunch before I have to go to this stupid meeting thing so that i can maybe do an internship this summer, I did get to sit with my partner during that tho

my first afternoon class is history (probably my least favorite class) and uh we're learning about fascism and some of the stuff hits way to close to home, like uh feels a lot like trump, but also there was a line about how fascist only care about their needs which reminded me of my ex which I really didn't need

luckily my last class is way better, it's bio and the bio teacher is the one planning the spring trip for my grade and before class starts she mentions that she wants to talk to me and other "stakeholders" (meaning queer kids) about how rooming is gonna work on the trip since the rooms are gonna be like 10 people and she also jokes that it might be complicated since we've all dated each other and I'm just like 'well really one person has dated all of us' but anyway hopefully I can make it so that my ex doesn't end up on the same half of the trip as me and my partner, as for the actual class it was really chill and like got me out of my head and learning things—oh and we watched a really cool video about like the biology behind being intersex and all the ways it can present and stuff and it makes me so happy that we're learning this kind of stuff

after school i hang out with a combination of my friends and my partner's friend before I have to go to robotics, w/ their friends it's the 2 of us my ex's boyfriend and one other person and this other person mentions how a friend was being shitty to them but probably has no clue and i'm just like ayyyy i'm dealing with that too and we have a short vague (since my ex's boyfriend was there) conversation about it before being like wait are we talking about the same person (we weren't) then after a bit the other people leave and me and my partner are alone

now my friends made fun of us for the next part, which, like, fair, but uh we talk for a bit and then they preface this with 'this could be a very stupid question' before asking if we're dating and we both agree that we had assumed yes but weren't sure and we should really figure out labels but then they have to leave so that's as far as the conversation goes

next up i went to robotics and we spent the whole time doing a design review which is kinda fun because it basically just means that everyone on the team plus the shop teachers questions all of the decisions that design has made but also it was annoying because design still doesn't have more things for us to fabricate hopefully they will for wednesday but uh we're running out of time and we really need a full robot cad

after robotics I figure out where my friends are and two of them (both transmasc but don't try to pass) tell me they're in the girl's locker room changing and doing their makeup so for the first time ever I go into a locker room at school and I get changed in there

once we're all changed a group of like 5 of us walk a couple of blocks from school and get dinner together which was fun and we get back to school right around when the dance is starting (after we gay speed walk back)

alright i'm writing this part first it's probably gonna end up at the bottom tho since the dance was the last part of the day but i have so much to say about it lol

so first off i went with my ~partner/girlfriend~ and we spent practically the whole time together and it was really nice

the first part (before the live bands) we spent just kinda messing around on the mostly empty dance floor (despite the DJ playing music) with 2 of their friends who are dating (and somehow hadn't realized that we're dating yet) and their are theater kids and therefore were being super silly and dramatic and romantic and it was fun to watch

then then my friends preformed a half hour set and it was amazing they picked really good songs and they're all such good performers, but I was kinda distracted through out it because I was dancing with my partner the whole time and I love how into they would get and just aaaa

next up another student band preformed and they were pretty good too (no one can top my friends tho lol) and this band played the first slow song of the night and oh boy so much happened during that one song

so to start ofc I danced w/ my partner the whole time and it was so so nice and uh something interesting is how different it felt to when I had danced with my ex like with my partner we were actually holding each other close and really leaned into each other so at times it was basically a hug

so during this dance 3 of the eccentric soccer seniors (including the one who has been questionable to queer people in the past) spot me and my partner and one of them practically screeches while they other two shout 'OH MY GOD [MY NAME]' which like yeah considering their track record I should have expected them to be excited about this

the other thing I really don't know how to take, so like I try to be a gentleman and I noticed a bit of my partner's hair was like in their face during this dance so I reached out to brush it back and after I brushed it back they pulled down their mask (we were both wearing masks since the dance was inside) and I don't know if they thought I was trying to do that or if like they wanted me to kiss them or if it was something else entirely after a moment (and when I don't acknowledge it) they pull their mask back up

after the song ends we hug and then cheer for the band (since that was their last song) and then they go to grab some snacks and after a second I go find one of my friends and tell her how the soccer seniors reacted and how i'm scared my partner was hoping I'd kiss her but i'm not sure how I feel about kissing because really the only person i've kissed is my awful ex and idk if I didn't like kissing them because it was them or because i'm ace

after that I go to find my girlfriend again but I see them talking with one of their friends (later I find out this conversation was their friend asking if we were dating) and I decide not to intrude in case the conversation is about the kissing thing (which to be fair I probably totally made up but i'm still scared)

after a bit I find my partner again and we hang around with a group of my friends and at one point I scare one of my friends and so they tell my partner half jokingly to control me and so my partner wraps her arms around me and I decide that's a fair trade off

then we dance a bit more but quickly decide the music is bad and wander outside and sit down in a spot away from people to talk

we finally finish that conversation from earlier and figure out what terms we each like, we also agree that the soccer seniors are annoying but it's worth it, we also restated how this should have happened sooner and this is how I found out that they used to walk by my friend group to get water every morning in the hopes I would see them and come talk to them (which worked btw because I would always end up going w/ them to get water so that I could talk to them)

eventually we head back inside and there is another slow song and so me and my partner dance together again and not long into the song the soccer seniors practically sprint over and are like "CAN WE TAKE A PHOTO" and so we say sure why not and two of them pose with us while the third takes the photo and after they walk off one of my friends is like 'why did [name] just take a photo of you 2?' and i'm just like 'because i'm on the soccer team' which is really the only answer I have

not too long after that song we decide the music is boring again and wander out of the gym to get water and try and find friends, after getting water we end up hanging out in an empty spot for a while just sitting together and talking

eventually we go back to looking for friends and find my friends sitting in a hallway talking to my history teacher, obviously we join them, the conversation is all sorts of chaotic as is usual with my friends and we're there for a little while before going back to the gym for the last bit

there's like one more slow song plus a couple of bad songs and that's it so we head back to my friends in the hallway (and the history teacher who has definitely figured out we're dating now) and we both stay as long as we can before our parents are gonna question why we stayed after so long

anyway saturday morning I get a text from one of the soccer seniors with the photo they took and the caption "slay" and the photo is actually really cute, everyone is smiling so big, one of the seniors is making an omg face the other one is doing a double thumbs up and then me and my partner are holding each other tight

so uh I have a soccer game today and I like haven't really seen those seniors since they took the photo so I'm gonna bet that they're gonna bring it up during warm up (:
