In my feelins about Lascaux’s chevalier days/life before the Grey Wardens

So I wrote a lil scene

Lascaux wakes up smiling.

Already, it’s a perfect day.

The sun paints soft yellow rays across their bed, and gauzy curtains sway with a gentle breeze perfumed by sweet hay and fresh grass—and if Lascaux tilts their head just right, they can see the sky is a glowing cornflower blue.

Their son, Adi—perfect, beautiful, wonderful little Adi—is sprawled across Lascaux’s chest. He makes a soft, snuffling noise as he breathes and settles deeper into sleep.

Oh, Seigneur! Lascaux’s heart swells at the sight. Il est trop mignon, mon fils parfait, Lascaux happily muses as they gently sweep the curly brown ringlets away from Adi’s face, and smiles yet even more at the sight of their son’s pudgy cheek smooshed against their chest.

And Amicia—perfect, beautiful, glorious Amicia—curls into Lascaux’s right side, a leg thrown over their hip and a delicate hand resting on their son’s back. Her head is tucked perfectly against Lascaux’s throat, where her warm breath tickles pleasantly over their skin.

Lascaux’s hand sweeps down Amicia’s arm—a giddy little ditty of ma femme, ma femme! bounces behind their teeth every time Lascaux touches her—and splays at the small of her back, holding her close. They press a kiss to the top of her head.

Their heart is so full it hurts. Lascaux is smiling so widely they almost laugh—but maintenant, c'est necessaire to contain such mirth, parce que the two people Lascaux loves most in this world are sleeping in their arms.

The soft lowing of livestock out in fields means that they should all be getting up soon, but Lascaux cannot bear for this moment to end. They press un bisous, deux, trois!—to both Adi and Amicia’s foreheads.

They settle back into the pillows and the warmth of their family. Lascaux reaches for their wife’s hand resting on Adi, and laces their fingers together.

Ma vie est plus belle. Life is perfect.

Lascaux smiles up at the ceiling, listens to the sweet song of the birds outside and the soft breaths of Amicia and Adi, and, deeply content, is about to drift off again…

Et puis—

And then—

There is a loud creak from the settee in the corner. Lascaux cracks open an eye, cranes their neck to see over Adi and—

“Putain de merde, Chauvet,” they say, taking care for their sleeping family but deeply startled and increasingly upset to see their brother sitting in their bedroom.

“Le Grand Tournoi commence demain,” Chauvet says, “Lève-toi.”

Lascaux does not like how comfortable Chauvet looks. There is a mostly-empty glass du vin on the side table, and a bottle on the floor.

“Depuis combien du temps es-tu ici,” Lascaux hisses while trying to figure out how to get out of bed and maybe punch Chauvet without bothering Amicia and Adi, because what is he doing here, in the corner like that as they sleep?

Chauvet rises from the settee, and his expression is dark behind the eyes in a way Lascaux has never seen before.

“Get up, Champion,” their brother says, and his smile is bright and his eyes are clear—the change of demeanor so rapid, perhaps it was only the last of sleep clouding Lascaux’s vision— “You have history to make this week!”

Chauvet leaves with a skip in his step, and closes the door behind him softly.

And Lascaux looks at the glass of wine, and doesn’t understand why hot, greasy dread pools so heavily in their stomach.

Tabris oc design!! He's not a warden in canon, instead he got taken to prison to be executed for the nobleman's murder. He dies in his cell, but a spirit of Perseverance ended up possessing him. He escaped! Yay! He's a spirit warrior woohoo

my experience with maxing out the twins' friendship is just-

picture a verse where Alistair gets killed on the Landsmeet floor after a Warden he romanced betrays him to keep Loghain alive and allows Anora to order his death

...oh you went straight for the heart on this one oh geez I mean. I mean I asked for it and I should have known what I was getting into. But fuck.

Would he beg, or plead, or rage? Or simply be shocked into silence, dumbfounded, brain short circuiting at the betrayal? To allow Loghain of all people to live, at his own expense; to be thrown over not for a friend, or ally, or even an expedient political pawn, but Loghain--the man who caused so much death and pain, the reason he and the Warden found each other--found solace in each other--in the first place?

He's dead before the sword falls, for all intents and purposes. The Warden cuts out his heart before he can lose his head. And right up until the end I think the thought running through his head--the words on his lips when he is lead away, the last thing he wonders before the blade falls--

Weisshaupt mission definitively proving that da is at its sexiest when it's wardens and yet here I am feeling an unbearable amount of salt because we walk through a FUCKING WARDEN LIBRARY and they could've put in a fucking NOTE about the HERO OF FUCKING FERELDEN IN THERE. SO GLAD THE FUCKING JOINING CHALICE WAS RECOVERED FROM FUCKING OSTAGAR THOUGH.

I'm pretty sure for a moment there Ver not only forgot her own name, all that was in her head (besides "griffon! a living griffon! a live baby griffon! holy shit!!!!!!) was a deafening screech of the opening chords to Careless Whisper.

like the last shred of decorum that she's clinging to with white-knuckled fists is the only thing that's preventing her from asking him to repeat himself at least 3 more times: once to actually get what he said in the first place, and twice more just to listen to him talk.

I’m just imaging a situation post-Trespasser where my Warden Aeducan has really settled in to her new life as the Divine’s trophy wife, and one day, Leliana tells her “Don’t be mad, but I may have promised Inquisitor Lavellan that you’d have tea with her next month and give her some advice on navigating her post-world-saving life.” And of course she says yes, both because she loves her wife and she knows what happens to people who go against her wishes.

Unbeknownst to either of them, Varric learns about this and suggests to Hawke that she visit Lavellan the same day, to help lift her spirits, y’know? Merrill can come too and chat with Clan Lavellan’s Keeper.

Cut to Aeducan walking in on perennial fuckup Marian Hawke giving Lavellan some truly atrocious, if humorous, advice, and Hawke having to contend with the goddamn Hero of Ferelden strolling in to save the day once again.

And once the three of them get to talking, Aeducan has to be very careful, because she recognizes that it would be incredibly insensitive on multiple levels to other two women to say things along the lines of “Yeah, so my brother dying, me being forced out of the only home I’ve never known, then conscripted into a paramilitary organization that was completely foreign to my culture was honestly the best thing that ever happened to me. I got to save the world and receive near-universal fame for it, including being religiously venerated by my own people. Speaking of religion, my wife is considered something of a radical by her peers, but in spite of that, she was able to rise to a position of power, letting her push through reforms that include marrying me, cause she loves me so much that she’s not afraid to show me her ruthless side. Now we live in the lap of luxury together, being influential girlboss wives.”

In the end, they mostly engage in some good-natured shit-talking of their mutual friends and acquaintances. Before she leaves, however, Aeducan does encourage Lavellan to continue her painting and even offers to put in a good word with Leliana about commissioning some official Chantry murals from her about the history of the Inquisition.

Didn’t even realize the game had apparently started the “romance Leliana” path until Wynne mentioned that I better not break that girl’s heart…naturally this prompted Frey to immediately walk across the camp and go break up with Leliana on the spot. Only thing scarier to Frey Warden than the darkspawn is Commitment
