Have you done any watches of the pokemon arcs and talked about them? Someone I'm mutuals with discussed doing that for AG arc. I'm considering doing it for the DP arc since I still consider it my favorite arc in the franchise.
Aww, sorry, I was a child getting into fandom when AG was starting in Japan, social media was at its infancy too... i didn't even have a livejournal yet. I don't do full series rewatches either. But I am very fond of the Contest arc, Haruka/May and Masato/Max, the humour, and the warm and tropical colour palettes. I also adored the hoso specials (the Side Stories that got dubbed as Pokemon Chronicles, although the dubs for those were... infamously much worse than the TV series in script quality and accuracy), I used to downloa the specials and watch them in Japanese while slowly learning Japanese bit by bit because no subbing group took Pokemon seriously enough to sub it outside of banned episodes, specials, and movies...
It was a unique time, I think!
Rescue Ralts! Hurry, Masato!/Do I Hear a Ralts? remains one of the best episodes of the anime, period. The Wishing star of Seven Nights: Jirachi was my old favourite pokemon movie before Lucario!! I love that the dub kept KAORI's singing for May and part of Chiisaki Mono in Japanese.
AG is criminally underrated, despite introducing concepts popular in fandom, like Hadou/Aura. Satoshi apologizing to Lucario after seeing his memory of apparently being abandoned by Aaron was the turning point for me where I truly felt Satoshi mature as a person and become much kinder and more patient. He was so prone to fighting people, he was much more of a (pint-sized) hotblooded shounen protagonist before that, but I adore the all-loving hero he grew into. How he helped Hikozaru/Chimchar heal in DP, how patiently he dealt with both Shinji/Paul and Shootie/Trip being jerks to varying degrees compared to the way he was before (solution: run screaming and throw himself at whatever problem exists, fists flying), the growth I personally cared about was visible even in the first episode of BW! where he's annoyed or exasperated by what he encounters, but keeps his temper in check and just makes faces in disapproval, fff.
He can still, of course, fight those who deserve it, like Largo's bullies and Sauboh/Faba.
So, yeah, I loved AG! It also has one of the only battles to ever excite me (anyone who knows me, knows I HATE Pokemon battles, they make my eyes glaze over... it's just not interesting to me unless a fight has, like, swords or something—I really do watch Pokemon more for the cute friendship stories, ships*, and idealized humans living in harmony with nature and other non-human creatures setting)... it was Haruka VS Shuu in the kanto Grand Festival! I was literally on the edge of my seat. I loved seeing her surpass him and his little look of approval and smile before she went from concern to happily celebrating with Wakashamo/Combusken. They had a beautiful story arc going from him looking down on her (while gifting roses like he's harboring a secret crush, fff), to respecting her as an equal, even dropping the -kun honorific he used to use after her name, when he saw her as a kouhai/underclassman and himself as her senpai/upperclassman, and moved to calling her just "Haruka"... after she saved his life, I believe!
I feel like that was Pokemon's best written romance amongst th main characters, it didn't overtake her story arc, it added to it and she still had her goals outside of that, it only added to her growth and story. ^^ It was innocent and sweet.
I am convinced that "for Agehunto/Beautifly" line is how Satoshi saw through Kasumi/Misty's lie in the final series.
I also adore the episode were Haruka and Nyasu/Meowth go back in time and save a man's life and improve a whole town (?) by doing so. It was a fun, moving episode.
The dub harmed this a bit with music choices and voice acting, but from the look of things, people still found it quite emotional (I still vastly prefer the original, no contest!), so Arbok and Weezing's release episode. Interesting that poacher Ryo/Rico was one of the last criminals shown using a real world gun and modern day weapon... maybe also because it doesn't look familiar to a lot of people as a real firearm...
*I got into Pokemon and Sailor Moon via a Rocketshipping fanfic set in the Silver Millenium when I knew nothing of both series and was used to only reading Harry Potter fanfic as an 11 year old! The secret backstory, pffft. So I watched for TR. ^^
I used to review Best Wishes! episodes, the earliest reviews were on my livejournal ( http://inkedfeathers.livejournal.com ), later mini reviews were on my now deleted tumblr blogs, but some reblogs exist... some DP episodes too! BW! was my favourite.

Open The Introduction To Dragongate by Scar The Skelly [TBA DUDES ROCK UNIT]
I wasn't not gonna include this unit, as it's basically official...without actually being official.
Presentation Notes:
TBA Dudes Rock Unit
May hear it get referred to by a variety of names, including and not limited to: Old Class, Veteran Army, Old Men Unit, etc.
Yamato
Omniscient and omnipotent is sometimes just shortened down to ‘The Almighty.’
Yamato now is more good than bad. But he’s not a pure babyface. He’s not always rule fairing, he can be quite cruel, and he brings a hand mirror with him to admire his face. But he still has a good moral compass for the most part and is usually just rough to his juniors to try to spur on their improvement.
As a heel, he’s just a complete gremlin.
‘Standing with his Yamato spirit’ is from his iconic theme song, which begins with “I’M STANDING HERE WITH MY YAMATO SPIRIT!”
Yes, this is the Yamato who is brothers?? With Hiromu Takahashi.
Once again, not a belt Yamato is holding, not much I can do here soz.
Susumu Yokosuka
M2 because there were 2 Mochizuki's and just 1 K because of Kanda. M2K is one of the most iconic units in Toryumon AND Dragongate, with it having a couple different iterations. The most recent was M3K, which only very recently disbanded.
Quick story of JIMMYZ. So, Susumu and Kagetora (who we will meet in a few slides time) lost a match where their names were on the line. If they lost, they had to change their names to Jimmy Susumu and Jimmy Kagetora. Now, Jimmy is of course the English name we know, but it does a double meaning as Jimi in Japanese means simple or plain. So, Susumu and Kagetora were now losers whose names had to be changed to what amounts to Simple Susumu and Plain Kagetora. Which, isn’t great for a wrestler. But Susumu and Kagetora took it in stride and turned it into a good thing, to the point where other people would join the unit and change their names to include Jimmy in there somewhere.
Susumu has his own pet cats and dotes on the Dojo kitties. Susumu makes face masks and scrunchies to sell at shows and repairs damaged gear. He posts all about this on his twitter @ ssm_yokosuka046
Naruki Doi
One of his family members was a player for the Yomiuri Giants, which is where the baseball gimmick came from.
Masato Yoshino is a very notable name in Dragongate, he’s since retired and now works for GLEAT. Possibly the fastest man in the wrestling industry at one point and one of the top guys throughout the 2000s and into the 2010s before injuries began to pull him up, and he had to retire.
Doi can be quite mean, getting up fans in the crowd for not cheering for him and refusing to hug Dragon Kid. He’s a bitchy old man who is not afraid to throw some shade. Never try to get into a promo battle with him, he will go for the throat.
Also known as Doi-chan or Doi-Doi, with the former being used by Dragon Kid.
Dragon Kid
If you like religious imagery and references in your wrestling boy, do I have the wrestler for you.

TRANSCRIPTION: Title: Polarised Punk Vol. 2 Ft. Exclusive Interview with Joshface.
Heading: Selective sections of an exclusive interview with Joshface an amazing band with a great synth kind of sound. Check him out now on YouTube and try to see him live!
[What were your first musical inspirations growing up?] J: Oh wow, it might not be the answer that most people give when they are asked this, cause usually it's stuff related to the stuff they make, whereas I was very much influenced by 16-bit videogames!
[I can kind of hear that in your music!] J: Yeah! So a lot of it is- I wanna pronounce his name right I think it's 'Masato Nakamura'. He's the composer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and that entire soundtrack for Sonic The Hedgehog 2 has pretty much shaped all of my music - so if you take like, if you listen out for the hooks and melodies and the countermelodies you can trace it back to [Sonic The Hedgehog!]
[I remember you actually did a cover of a videogame song] J: Yes! Yeah uh we do a couple, we do- we did the theme from Cheetahmen and that came about in 2019 because it was stuck in my head, it would not leave! So I was like: I have to do something about this, so I sat down and I started figuring it out on guitar and then I recorded it... and then I just sorta fell down that rabbit hole and then I ended up with a full track! Like fuck I gotta release it now!
[It's like a whole thing now!] J: Yeah! Like the whole thing just like came about 'cause it would not leave my head! It's so catchy, I love video game music.
Heading: Human - Joshface
[My favourite EP, the 'Human' EP has like a really high production value] J: Yeah! That's no small feat, it took five years(?) for it to get to where it was. So imagine like the first guitar riffs I made for the album I wrote when I was like 15? 16? Something like that. And I was doing it through a piece of software, oh my god I acrually have it to hand (He holds a box reading 'Guitar Pro 6') I wasn't even this version! It was Guitar Pro 5, it was the one before this. (He searches through the packaging) I'm trying to find a year on this... So 2010 Guitar Pro 6 came out so it must have been 2008-09 when I was working with Guitar Pro 5 and that's when it *started*.
[So it was like a really long time in the making?] J: Yeah so I went to college to learn how to be better at music, and uh you know, it still didn't sound as good as I wanted it to. So I went to university! And it *still* didn't sound as good as I wanted it to so I went to University again! So I went to two university courses (he points at two frames on the wall) these are my two degrees!
[Two degrees! :D] J: Yeah so! One's from Truro College & one's from Falmouth University and my time at Falmouth Uni was where it really started to... come to fruition and I thought "Enough messing around!" Actually, my time at Truro College, I lost the entire EP! It was all on a hard drive and it crashed in 2015, I lost everything! And I had the choice to either: Start again and redo it from the ground up or to just scrap it and do something else and I chose to start again from the ground up! At Falmouth Uni for my final project it was like "I'm going to release it and i'm gonna do a big concert where there's live visuals and i'm playing it front-to-back and it still didn't sound as good as I wanted it to! and it was because I was so close to the music that I was doing it all by myself. But over the course of a few years I learnt the value of letting other people in, letter other people listen.
(Thank you so much for reading check out Joshface)
END TRANSCRIPTION.
Woahhh! We've made it to volume 2! This issue contains an interview with @joshface , a DIY and a CD of the week! Hope you all enjoy and of course if you have any suggestions comment or reblog my post ✩

EIJI OTORI
From Anon:
Eiji Otori is another member of HEAVENS and he is a down-to-earth type of character. One can say he is a cinnamon roll as he looks out for HEAVENS and his brother, Eiichi. Eiji talks in a formal manner to people outside of HEAVENS and addresses them by their surname like the time he worked with Tokiya for Mighty Aura, or when he was working with Camus and Masato for Feather in Hand. Around HEAVENS, Eiji talks casually, calling them by their first name. He is very mindful of other members of HEAVENS and Eiji keeps an open mind for ways to improve his skills as an idol and to help out his bandmates come to a solution where both sides agree. Eiji speaks very fondly of the people he works with formality and a lot of respect.
What I love about Eiji is his relationship with his brother, Eiichi Otori. The two have a strong bond as Eiichi looked after and took care of Eiji when growing up. The two of them are inseparable and do a lot together while looking after each other. Personally, their sibling bond is what I wish to have with my sibling as well, even though we're complete opposites like day and night! Their interactions are easily seen throughout the anime, you can even see their sibling bond show the most through HEAVENS Radio as Eiichi and Eiji are the co-hosts. If there is anything that I'd like to know more about Eiji, it would be about his hobby, gardening. He has a lot of knowledge on plants and perhaps agriculture. It'd be nice to see HEAVENS talk about their hobbies one day. But all in all, Eiji is a great character that I appreciate with a heart of gold!
From Anon:
Eiji Otori, the 4th member of HEAVENS is one of my two most favorite characters in Utapri. I was originally drawn to his kind and gentle demeanor, that made him such an easily lovable character. He was introduced in the 4th season of the anime in the cross idol unit episodes. The way he treated Tokiya besides knowing he was part of the rival idol group ended up becoming an essential part of Tokiya’s later character growth. Although Eiji is meant to be a foil for Tokiya’s character their personalities are completely polar opposites, their devotion to wanting to be an idol being one of the only similarities besides level headedness. Eiji is his own character, right down the way he speaks to the way he sings. Eiji seems to always carry the group in a loving and family-like way, even going as far as having domestic hobbies like gardening and baking. We always see him and even hear the way he interacts with the other members of HEAVENS on the radio show as if they were an inseparable family. Eiichi, his older brother and the leader of HEAVENS loves him in a way that is so complex but Eiji will always love him back with every fiber of his being to the deepest parts of his soul. There is a deep connection between the brothers that is so beautiful that even poetry couldn’t express, it’s more profound then words can show. It’s a bond they share that only they know, like a secret.
However, even then there is so much more about Eiji that makes him such a wonderful character. When it comes to myself, Eiji hits a bit close to home in a more personal way. Perhaps that is also a factor in why I love him so much. I empathize with him and I can see through his eyes in ways only a younger sibling would know. As a younger sister to a sibling who has always been in the spotlight in some form of way with a big presence, I always lived in her shadow, but I admired her and cared about her above anything else. The way Eiji feels about Eiichi is something that I can personally relate with and understand. Eiichi is an essential part of Eiji’s character and the anime does not lack to show this, nor does it lack to show that Eiji is just as much an essential part of Eiichi’s character. It’s more obvious in the radio show that is hosted by the two brother but it’s not fully ignored either in the anime. I love how Eiji interacts with all of the characters, and seems to find ways to treat everyone with kindness even if they aren’t kind to him in return. He admires those who show a deep love for the things he does, and respects those who are more experienced then he is. He’s always eager to learn
and please. He’s the kind of person you’d always want around and you’d want a hug when things get rough. Eiji is definitely the most pure hearted character of all the Utapri characters. And, I’ll always stand by that through and through.
VAN KIRYUIN
From @whereisvanderwood:
Kiryuin Van. Where to start? He’s cocky. He’s cocky as all hell. There’s something in his air that is poised yet undignified. Childish yet mature. The man is founded on juxtaposition, not dissimilar to a painting of Picasso. His ability to be unique in an industry that begs for individuality, to rise above a tidal wave of competition and stand apart from other fish in the sea, is awe-inspiring. Expectation is dead to him; though the oldest member of Heavens, the weight of bearing the role as ‘most mature’ or the ‘parent’ of the group couldn’t be further from his concern. He is only any dimension of himself he wants to be at any given time. Dumb bitch by morning, bad bitch by night. Much like his bandmates, his confidence and intimidating aura is unwavering. He claims his victory before a race begins, and I couldn’t say if that undying faith in oneself is a skill or a sin. Whatever it is, he owns it. He shamelessly, unapologetically owns who he is and shares it with his fans, friends and enemies.
Also, he’s hot. He’s very appealing to the human eye. His ruggedness reminds me of a warm blanket in winter. His voice, oh his voice. If the world was about to blow up and he just said “No it won’t”, in his own way, I think I’d believe him. Regardless of what he says being juvenile or mature, he’s always authentic. No sugar coats, no little white lies, only genuity. As just said before, he is who he is and wouldn’t change for anyone if it wasn’t in his own best interest. Who couldn’t love a guy like that?
YAMATO HYUGA
From @kusagiiiii:
I'll be honest, I used to forget Yamato exists alot LMAO I fell in love with him when I was looking at a HEAVENS group photo! I think he is a very stronk,very cute and a very soft boy! in some ways haha he's my type
I honestly wish there would be more story on the HEAVENS boys since they all seem like they had a pretty rough past so yee that's basically it~
From Sammy:
Everybody, listen up! It’s Sammy here! Are you ready for some strong appreciation? Let’s shout it out! Yeah!!
Where do I begin when it comes to Yamato? It took me a while to actually like him. At first, I wasn’t a fan of how he was when he first showed up in the anime. I still remember when Yamato was one of the few HEAVENS members people really didn’t like or care much for, next to Eiichi and Nagi.
I used to be one of those people too with Yamato. I found him to be very stubborn, but over time after listening to HEAVENS Radio; The Drama CDs; Watching Maji Love Kingdom, etc… I came to realize there’s so much more to him.
I’ve learned a lot more about him, especially through role-playing as him, and my love for Yamato skyrocketed. Even with all the new content that’s been coming out for HEAVENS lately like Black Garden and Endless Score, my love grows even more every day. Yamato sneaked his way up to being one of my best boys.
Yamato is HEAVENS’ Strongest member. (Seriously, how the heck does this boy train everyday and do so much of it?!) He’s not always aggressive and violent. He’s actually a really thoughtful person who cares about his friends a lot, even being very protective of them. Yamato is the kind of person that’ll immediately stop what he’s doing, and only think about how to help the other person feel better.
A lot of things tend to be overlooked for him cause of how he’s written in the anime, and there’s fans who only pay attention to that. Not even giving the extra content a thought or a single glance.
As Ryuya’s younger brother, Yamato has his own insecurities, especially since he’s always seen as just a shadow. He’s been trapped in darkness where he feels he’s not good enough to be appreciated and loved as his own person. He doesn’t know what to do and which path to take. Yamato only became an idol just to defeat and finally be better than Ryuya at something. I feel that goal is still there, but it’s not a major one like before. Now, Yamato has people like the other members of HEAVENS, the angels, and the other idols. He found his light and happiness.
Overall, Yamato is the kind of person he wants everyone to be proud of. He wants to always share his strongest power and energy, carrying the burden of everybody’s smiles. Wanting to see those around him happy and be the best they can be.
Another part that I really like about Yamato is whenever he gets embarrassed. I can’t help, but find that really cute cause it’s something we don’t see or hear out of him a lot.
There’s also the times he demonstrates how much he loves food. Even though he overeats and knows he can’t help it when he’s hungry, I really liked when Yamato stated that if eating makes you happy, go for it. Just make sure you train afterwards to burn off calories. It helps people feel good about themselves.
Even the times when Yamato struggles with difficult words, specifically English and kanji. It’s embarrassing for him to admit, but he knows he’s not good at that sort of thing. What I really like about this is HEAVENS is always willing to help him, even Tokiya and Cecil. They help keep things simple and easy for Yamato to understand.
There’s a lot you can say I just simply vibe with when it comes to Yamato, and I love him. Hope everyone enjoys this long appreciation of this strong boy, and I hope you all love him too!
SHION AMAKUSA
From Anon:
When I saw Shion for the first time, he caught my attention with his beautiful appearance. His cream-white hair, his periwinkle eyes and his pale skin were a wonderful combination that I just couldn't ignore. Physically, he was exactly the type of character I love… Even his hairstyle is great! And what to say about his pretty face! To me, he looked like an angel.
His style in clothes is something I also like about him. With all this mixed, the only word I can use to describe him is "perfect".
But, of course, there's more than just physical appearance. Shion's way of speaking, as we all know, is quite… Particular. And those beautiful words made me be more interested in this boy, even if they were a bit difficult to understand. This characteristic is something that, in my opinion, makes him special, not only in his group but among all the groups.
That poetic way of speaking is a beautiful combination with his voice. When he speaks I find it so mystical… And when he sings his solo songs I feel relaxed and even a bit emotional. He's not an angel just physically, he also sings like one!
But what made me love him completely was his personality. To be honest, at first I didn't understand why he acted so hostile to Cecil and signed with him, but when it was explained later I could see his point of view and I felt sorry for him, for how he was feeling and the big sacrifice he was making if we take into account his thoughts.
Loyalty is something I value a lot, and Shion has a huge loyalty towards his friends. After that incident, he changes his way of thinking and he starts getting more friendly to the rest, something I find beautiful.
I also find him very cute, an extra point for me to like him. His -sometimes- childish attitude is adorable! And how he acts around his friends… So lovely!
I also feel a bit similar to him in some aspects, such as listening to the same song again and again, liking birds or even usually feeling sleepy, besides other things. These similarities make me feel connected in some way with him.
Shion is a very special character for me, and I can't wait to see more content about him, to know more about this wonderful boy, for example, about his family, where he is from, how he ended up in HEAVENS, how he started to speak the way he does… There are a lot of things we don't know yet and I hope we can get more information about Shion soon!

Yandere Sub AU (Fairytale AU) - Masato Hijirikawa ver.
Masato lived repeating the same patterns of life over and over again. A noble in his village, he was born to be the next heir of the Hijirikawa estate. This was his fate since birth. He was raised to know all of the inner workings so they could prosper even more. All throughout his days he would learn and study to become the best his family has ever seen.
The noble’s days were mundane for the most part. Times he didn’t mind and was used to. Except there was this one thing that scared him tremendously. His father. As a boy he looked up to him. His father was the prime example of what he should grow up to be in life. Yet his father was cruel.
If Masato were to make one wrong step he would get punished severely. The punishment could range from isolation to verbal abuse or worse. His father never laid a hand on him but everything he did still broke him piece by piece. He would barely move, even breathe when his father was around. He had to force himself not to shake in his presence so he wouldn’t have to face such harsh cruelty. He ended up becoming a machine in this life of his. Someone who does as they're told without a mistake to be made.
This was how the man now lived. Though under that machine was still a scared little boy. A boy who wanted to go free and run away from his fate. From this harsh life he was placed into. These thoughts were kept a secret in his heart.
One day he got called to meet with his father. Masato’s expression was serious as he entered, despite being scared and wanting to leave the moment he stepped inside. He squared his shoulders as his father noticed his appearance. His dad was quick to get down to business.
“Masato, I have picked out a suitable spouse that you will be meeting tomorrow. I expect you to get along with them for the Hijirikawa name.” Masato is surprised when he hears those words. He doesn’t show it but his mind is running with the information he just learned about. After that statement he is excused and he’s left to ponder on his thoughts.
The next day he’s introduced to his spouse to be. They get up from where they sit on the sofa and smile kindly at him. He couldn’t help but to be slightly taken aback as they curtsy/bow in front of him.
“Hello Mr. Hijirikawa, it’s nice to finally meet you,” their words are soft and delicate. Their aura was nothing like he was expecting. He was expecting someone cold hearted that was just using this opportunity to get an advantage.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you as well Miss/Mr…?” He’s polite and greets them with a smile as he bows back, coming up to get their name. When they do respond he ends up putting that name deeply into his heart.
With the common introductions out of the way he asks them if they would like to explore the estate. Offering them his arm they accept. The two of them explore many rooms together and each one the noble man is greeted by the servants they pass by and see.
“Wow, you’re really popular here,” they laugh softly to themselves. The male glances over at them before turning away with a light speck of pink dusting his cheeks. As they walk the hallway he finds another room to lead them into. Leading them to it he opens the door for them to go inside.
Inside the room they are in awe at the big piece of furniture being the centerpiece. They run up to it and start to play a few notes from the grand piano. Masato’s impressed at their excitement of the instrument. The soft tune they play touches his heart. A smile forms to his lips.
“Do you enjoy the piano?” The noble looks at them as they continue to play. He walks over to stand by them.
“Indeed, I’ve been playing since I was little.” They smile at his response before they stop playing. They move over on the bench and open their arms towards the piano.
“Can you play something for me?” He’s again taken aback. He never thought anyone would want to hear his music besides his younger sister. Yet their smile is encouraging and warm. Something he’s not used to. Timidly he sits down next to them and plays a song that matches his emotions.
When he’s done he turns to look at them. Tears are welling up in their eyes.
“That was beautiful! I could feel everything you kept hidden in your heart. Your true emotions.” He didn’t expect such a response. That response made him happy. Overwhelmingly happy. He didn’t expect to find a perfect match so quickly and yet here they are. Someone who understands him and supports him.
He shifts his body to face them head on. His expression is serious as he speaks.
“If you enjoyed your time with me today. Then... would you consider us going into a courtship?” He can see their expression change to a look of pure happiness.
“Yes! I would love to be courted by you!” Their response leaves him happy. A happiness he didn’t know was possible to achieve.
After that the both of them continue to see each other. Both families are content as well as the couple. Each time he saw them he could tell he was falling more and more in love. He continued to open himself up to them and so did they. Yet he had yet to notice the other feelings growing inside of him. A feeling of need to keep them at his side, all the time.
The next visit involved the both of them sitting outside in the garden by themselves besides a few gardeners tending to their work. The person beside Masato lays their head on his shoulder. He stiffens up slightly before relaxing himself.
“This is nice isn’t it?” They ask him languidly with a tweedia in their hand. He responds with a simple “yes” as he looks down at them. A few moments go by before they sit back up looking at the grass.
“Is something wrong?” Concern washes over him. A sharp panic coming from the peaceful atmosphere. They look back up with a smile on their face.
“Masato… what’s your dream?” The question was out of the blue. He doesn’t know if he should tell them since he doesn’t know how they’ll respond. Yet overall he trusts them and answers them truthfully.
“My dream… isn’t to run my family’s estate.” He looks at the ground now too. He feels a warmth touching his arm.
“Then don’t. Be who you want to be. I’ll still be here with you too. Wherever you go.” Their encouragement is the final piece that was missing. It was the last thing he needed to go free from these chains that bind him. He grabs their hand.
“Then let’s-”
“There they are! Separate the two as quickly as possible!” The two of them hear someone shout before they are both grabbed and separated from the other. The noble man’s confused. He looks over towards their partner and can see the fear and sadness in their eyes. He turns his head and watches his father come into view. He’s about to speak but his father beats him to it.
“The courtship is over. Their estate recently fell into bankruptcy. We don’t need their debts harming our name.” His father’s words made a dark feeling rise over him.
“Father-!” He looks him straight in the eyes yet he stops himself short. There’s no room for arguing with him when he won’t listen, he never has. The younger noble instead looks at his partner and watches as they hang limply there with tears running down their face. That feeling rises up even more. He yanks himself free from the servants. He rushes up and grabs you tightly into his arms.
He doesn’t care about their family debts. All he cares about is this person in his arms. He sees from the corner of his eye that his father is getting prepared to say something. The younger noble stops him short.
“Father, I'm leaving the estate. I want to be with them and if I can’t here then we’ll go somewhere else.” His words are laced with an unusual edge and strictness. The fear he once harbored for his father slowly goes away. He moves to grab their partner’s hand. He faces his father directly.
“We will not be going to their estate. We’ll be in a place where you will never find us.” With these final words he leaves the garden and estate behind with them, before his father could throw out any disapprovals.
That day the two lovers left their previous lives behind. They were happy, but the man never went back to who he was. Something snapped inside of him and that darkness only continued to spread and get worse. After the two got married his betrothed was never allowed back out into the world. He was afraid that his father would send people to look for him and try to take them away again.
They were the ones who gave him his freedom. They unlocked the chains pulling him down. Which means he couldn’t allow them to be taken from him. He wouldn’t ever take that chance if it meant losing them.
The dam in his heart was strongly built for so long. Then you came along. Unleashing all that he had built up.

Starish and Quartet Night as bungo stray dogs’ abilities
A/N: Other than utapri, I am also a huge fan of BSD, and so I thought why not write about the boys having the abilities like the characters in BSD Generally I tried to keep it to classic literature book titles and based their abilities on the title of the book.
I also decided to split the boys into team ADA and port mafia. Not sure if I should put this as my disclaimer but putting a boy in the PM does not necessarily mean he is a ‘bad’ person. My take on the ADA and PM for this scenario is that they fight for different reasons!
All in all, these are just some headcanons I have and may not be 100% accurate to the boys’ personalities or the BSD plot.
Welp, this was a lengthy a/n mainly cause I’m kinda nervous about posting these kind of stuff. But thank you for reading till the end and I hope you like it!
STARISH
Otoya:
Designation: ADA
Ability name: In Search of Lost Time (Marcel Proust)
Ability description: Ability user is able to travel up to 1 hour back into the past. Anyone who is standing within a 5-metre radius of the user will also be affected.
Otoya discovered his ability when his friend nearly cycled into the path of a bus
Otoya looked on in shocked and desperately prayed that he could turn back time, which was what eventually happened and he managed to pull his friend to safety
Unlike the other ADA members who were recruited by Reiji, Otoya volunteered to join the agency at his own will
Otoya is always eager to go on missions, whether he was assigned to it or not. He wants to do whatever he can to help others
He eventually trained his stamina by jogging every morning, as well as took self defence classes
Once in a while, he hangs out with Syo to play soccer (whether a not the both of them decide to use their abilities during a match is up to them)
He looks up to Reiji a lot and is close to Tokiya
Tokiya:
Designation: ADA
Ability name: Persuasion (Jane Austen)
Ability description: Once eye contact has been made, ability user is able to get the victim to reveal whatever secret he desires.
Tokiya stumbled across his ability when he was asking his mum what she got him for his birthday and she told him
She later admitted that she did not have the intention to reveal his gift in the first place
Tokiya initially had mixed feelings about his ability, as he was aware that some people wanted to keep certain thoughts hidden
But he later learnt how to better control his ability, and decided to use it for good
Reiji later recruited Tokiya into the ADA after having a chat with him in a cafe and Tokiya showing interest in helping with the agency
Tokiya has little to no combat skill, but to make up for it, he is extremely intelligent
Before going after an enemy, Tokiya does intense research on the person, sometimes asking Ai for help
He is then able to cause the enemy to go into a panicked state when his deepest, darkest secret is revealed
As much as possible, Tokiya avoids leaving the office and similar to Masato, he spends his free time reading as well as listening to music
Natsuki:
Designation: Port Mafia
Ability name: Lost Illusions (Honore de Balzac)
Ability description: Ability user is able to send victim into a trance-like state, allowing user to brainwash the victim. For the ability to work, eye contact has to be made.
When he was a child, Natsuki was ordering ice cream when the man suddenly looked dizzy and said odd things
His parents later explained to him that it was an ability granted to him
Natsuki didn’t really understand it, but he was careful to not make eye contact with anyone for too long as he was aware that was what set the ability off
Growing up, he learnt how to control it and can now make eye contact with people without his ability setting off
Camus personally recruited Natsuki into the port mafia, recognising the strength of his ability if used well
Despite his tall figure, Natsuki loves cute things and is often seen bringing mini pastries to Camus’ office to eat with him (Camus appreciates that a lot)
During his off days, Natsuki enjoys catching up with his favourite TV show (Piyo chan)
He loves dotting on Syo due to his small size and enjoys putting him in ‘cute clothing’ (despite Syo’s multiple protests)
Masato:
Designation: ADA
Ability name: The Secret Garden (Frances Hodgson Burnett)
Ability description: Ability user is able to transport people to a garden which is inaccessible by outsiders. Only people within a certain radius are affected.
Masa didn't have the brightest childhood, and grew up emotionally broken
He first discovered his ability when he heard his parents fighting outside and he found himself transported to a different room
When he finally came out of his secret room, he realised thst his parents had been searching for him, giving him a greater understanding of his ability
He uses his ability to save others from harm, but occasionally uses it as a retreat when he needs the time and space to think
When Ren comes over to bother find him, they sometimes gather in his secret room, away from the public eye
Masato learned how to fight with the katana to make up for his ability which lacks combat
He prefers office work and spends most of his free time reading
Ren:
Designation: Port Mafia
Ability name: Perfume (Patrick Suskind)
Ability description: Ability user is able to track down a person with his scent. For ability to work, a piece of clothing must be given to the user.
Ren discovered his ability when he was trying to return a lost handkerchief to a stranger who dropped it in a crowd
He took a whiff of it and immediately saw the location of the owner as well as the path he took
He was recruited into the port mafia by Natsuki when he stumbled upon him carrying out a mission
During his off days, Ren enjoys playing darts in an underground pub
He also enjoys looking for Masato from the ADA to hang out with him (also Masa might beg to differ)
What he lacks in combat, he makes up for with his ability, tracking down multiple criminals and targets with ease
Ren is a sweet talker, and is easily able to convince target women to pass him their scarf/handkerchief for his team to track them down later
He is often seen working with Syo, who helps with the combat side of missions
Syo:
Designation: Port Mafia
Ability name: Fires on the Plain (Ooka Shohei)
Ability description: Ability user is able to use fire. He can also control the intensity, and how far it can spread.
Syo first discovered his ability when he was in a heated argument with a friend and accidentally set a portion of grass on fire
He then trained himself to be careful and to learn how to control his ability
Ren was the one who convinced Syo to join the port mafia, telling him that his ability would be well respected in the agency (he was right)
Syo quickly rose up the ranks in the port mafia, and is often tasked with leading missions
Syo is a very smart ability user, and knows when to use his ability to just threaten someone and when to use it to hurt someone
During his off days, he is often playing soccer with Otoya. Although he says that no abilities should be used, he sometimes uses his ability to trap Otoya within a certain space while he scores a goal
Syo admires Natsuki’s ability a lot, and enjoys working with him (although he will never admit it)
Cecil:
Designation: ADA
Ability name: The Call of the Wild (Jack London)
Ability description: Ability user is able to freely transform into a wolf on command. This ability is highly suited for combat
Cecil’s parents were the first to discover his ability when they went to wake Cecil up one morning but discovered a wolf lying in his place instead
They initially panicked but upon hearing the wolf mumbling, they realised it was just their son
Cecil was recruited by Reiji when he turned into a wolf to help sniff out for survivors in a snowstorm
Realising that they’re abilities worked well together, the both of them worked as a team a lot
Cecil is often seen training his stamina so that he could keep up with his wolf abilities
While he usually has a calm and happy personality, Cecil can become extremely violent when angry and has little control over his emotions
During off days, Cecil likes to take shelter in a high tree to read his book or listen to music
Cecil doesn’t like doing paperwork and is often seen asking Tokiya or Masato to help him (which they reluctantly agree to because Cecil is very cute)
QUARTET NIGHT
Reiji:
Designation: ADA (leader)
Ability name: Snow Country (Yasunari Kawabata)
Ability description: Ability user is able to control snow over a certain radius. Depending on the user, light snow or a snowstorm can be summoned.
Reiji discovered his ability when he was a child and was upset that it wasn't snowing for Christmas
He ended up summoning a light snow over his house
He founded the ADA in hopes of using his ability to help others
On off duty days, Reiji uses his ability during winter festivals to make children happy by sending down snow to help them build snowman or take part in snowball fights
Reiji is not too fond of using his ability to hurt others. However if the situation calls for it, he will.
Depending on the severity of the situation, Reiji can either send heavy snow to scare the villain off or unleash a deadly snowstorm to directly hurt the villain.
The only scenario where Reiji casts a deadly storm is usually when someone he loves gets hurt.
He is often seen working with Cecil as their abilities work well together
Reiji often uses his ability to trap the villain within a certain area, while Cecil swoops in to hold the villain down
Ranmaru:
Designation: Port Mafia (but is kind of a lone wolf)
Ability name: In Cold Blood (Truman Capote)
Ability description: Ability user is able to leave no trace of crime committed. All evidence is wiped clean once the user leaves the crime scene.
However, much is still unknown about this ability.
Ranmaru first discovered his ability when he devised a detailed plan to kill his friend’s stalker
When he was about to wipe off the blood on his knife, he realised it had already disappeared
He honestly did not know what to feel about his ability. He didn't exactly despise murder, but knowing that the cases remained unsolved bothered hims slightly
The only things he know about his ability is the fact that all evidence will be erased the moment he leaves the crime scene
But there is said to be more to his ability than that
He was recruited into the port mafia by Camus but with the condition that he was allowed to work alone
As he spends most of his time in his apartment, he isn't close to anyone
Ai:
Designation: ADA
Ability name: Masks (Fumiko Enchi)
Ability description: Ability user is able to take the form of someone else. However, for this ability to work, the user needs to recognise the exact shape and form of the victim in detail.
Being a droid, Ai was programmed with the knowledge that his ability exists
His first experience with his ability was when he was people watching and accidentally morphed into a stranger he was looking at
Ai’s constant curiosity has allowed him to easily memorise the faces of others, as well as their physique
Because of that, he is a complete pro in using his ability
He was also programmed to distinguish between the right and wrongs of the world
He is fully aware of the capability his ability has to engage in wrong doings
Despite so, he chooses to only use his ability to do good
He's not a fan of fighting and prefers to write up reports and conduct interrogations in the office
He is close with Tokiya and is often seen hanging out with him
Camus:
Designation: Port Mafia (leader)
Ability name: Phoenix (Osamu Tezuka)
Ability description: Ability user possess phoenix abilities to a certain extent, the most notable one being able to heal mortal wounds and revive selected people from the dead.
Camus discovered his ability when he had a injury from horse riding and ended up healing himself when he hovered his hand over the sprain
He joined the port mafia as a low rank employee, but quickly worked his way up to the top due to his ability, eventually taking over the organisation
Most of the time, he is inside his office (drinking tea) while watching over the city
He has a decent combat ability, but prefers to leave the fighting to his underlings as he felt that it was not 'royal' of him to engage in such things
One of his known skills is the ability to revive the dead, but for this to work, the person needs to be dead for less than an hour
Camus barely uses this ability as he believes that death is inevitable, but if someone in the port mafia (or ADA because he lowkey loves them) is dead, he will not hesitate to bring them back to life
He is someone who likes working alone and is not particularly close to anyone in the organisation

They Find Out Their S/O is Getting Bullied (STARISH)
This is a continuation of my most recent scenario. The next post will most likely be this scenario again but with HEAVENS. Also, I think I’m going to write more in bullet points this time for future scenarios. The “Bad day at work/school” scenarios will still be in paragraphs once I get around to finishing those though since I like staying consistent.
Once again, though I don’t mention any specific bullying tactics or insults, here’s a possible trigger warning for those who are uncomfortable with mentions and themes of bullying.
Also, a note on Cecil’s scenario: I tried to find a gender-neutral term for Prince/Princess, since I figured that’d be something he’d call the reader and because I don’t use they/them pronouns so I’m not too familiar with it yet. What I ended up using was one that I found in multiple sources from nonbinary and genderfluid people, so I figured it’d be one of the more appropriate ones to use. If I offend anyone in either of those communities by doing this, I sincerely apologize.
On with the scenario!
--------------------
Natsuki Shinomiya -
- He’s distraught - who would want to hurt someone as sweet and as kind as you?!
- He immediately pulls you into a tight hug to the point where you have to tell him to ease up a little. He then pulls away once he realizes that you could be hurt.
- Keep your eye on his glasses, you don’t want them to accidentally fall off his face.
- “I’m sorry! I forgot to ask if they hurt you! I didn’t hurt you more, did I?”
- He helps to gently patch you up if you’re hurt.
- If not, he breathes a sigh of relief before hugging you again, asking you to tell him what they said to you.
- He argues against each insult, reassuring you that none of it is true. He also takes the time to compliment you on what he likes about you.
- You spend the rest of the day in his arms listening to his songs.
- The next time you run into your bullies is a couple days later.
- They’re suddenly scared of you now! You find this strange, since your boyfriend is not known to get violent, but you let it go because hey, they’re not bothering you anymore!
Tokiya Ichinose -
- He doesn’t seem to react at first, but little do you know that he’s trying to restrain himself from becoming too angry in front of you.
- In an unusually calm tone, he asks you if they hurt you. He can patch you up if needed.
- Once he feels he’s calm enough to help you, he asks you to tell him what they said to you before he pulls you into a hug.
- You can’t see it, but his eyebrows are furrowing more and more with each thing you say.
- “Don’t listen to them. They’re telling you nothing but lies.”
- He offers to go with you to get someone of higher authority involved if needed and spends the rest of the day cuddling with you and listening to his music.
- A couple days later, you run into your bullies while he’s with you.
- You’ve never seen anyone’s face go as pale as your bullies’ did before.
Cecil Aijima -
- This is the first time you’ve ever seen him angry. And the last time you ever want to see him angry.
- “What are their names, my Princess/Prince/Princet? I’ll have them banished to Agnapolis if they laid a finger on you!!”
- Wow I guess Camus is really starting to rub off on him
- He takes a moment to calm down before making sure you’re not hurt. He can patch you up with Masato’s help if needed.
- He pulls you a bit closer to him and asks you to tell him what they said to you, hugging you and tightening his hold on you with each insult you say.
- He reassures you that none of it is true and spends the rest of the day cuddling with you.
- The next day, there’s no trace of your bullies, though you have stumbled across a clowder of cats that kind of look like them and always run away from you for some reason.... You think it’s best to not bring it up though.
Ren Jinguji -
- He seems to be considerably calm given what you just told him.
- But don’t let looks deceive you, he’s seething with anger on the inside. He just doesn’t want you to know that and make you feel worse than you already do.
- He takes a deep breath to try and calm himself down before asking whether or not you’re hurt. He can help patch you up if needed.
- He pulls you into a hug after patching you up or finding out you’re not hurt, asking you to tell him what they said to you.
- He scoffs after you tell him what they said, his hold on you tightening after each one.
- “Don’t listen to a word they say, Little Lamb. You and I both know none of that is even remotely true.”
- You two then spend the rest of the day cuddling and playing video games together to help take your mind off of things.
- The next time you see your bullies is when he’s with you.
- They mysteriously leave you alone once they recognize who you’re with. How weird!
Otoya Ittoki -
- Like Natsuki, he’s distraught and wondering who would want to hurt someone as sweet as you.
- He immediately makes sure you’re not hurt. He can - with Masato’s help - patch you up if you are.
- He then hugs you tightly and kisses your forehead after you tell him what they said to you.
- “That’s not true at all! I can’t believe anyone would say such horrible things about you!”
- He then cracks a couple jokes to help cheering you up, smiling once he hears you laugh.
- The next day, the two of you are out on the town when you run into your bullies again.
- They immediately recognize him and piece together that the two of you are an item. They suddenly leave you alone after that.
Syo Kurusu -
- He’s instantly cracking his knuckles and muttering incoherently under his breath.
- You have to stop him from busting out the doors to find whoever’s bothering you.
- “You’re not hurt, are you? I’ll kick their asses if you are!”
- Once he settles down a little, he sighs and makes sure you’re not hurt. He can patch you up if you are.
- If not, he breathes a sigh of relief and then asks if they said anything to you.
- He tsks at each thing you tell him and he reassures you that “there’s no fucking way that’s true.”
- He offers to teach you a few self-defense moves in case they want to try anything with you again and he’s not there to protect you.
- The next day, your bullies are magically scared of you! And you suddenly have to tend to Syo’s knuckles, which are bruised. What a coincidence!
Masato Hijirikawa -
- He’s unsurprisingly calm yet angry once you tell him.
- He immediately asks if you’re hurt and carefully patches you up if you are.
- If not, he becomes a little less angry and asks you what they said to you.
- “None of what they say matters because it’s not true. I promise, I’ll make sure they never bother you again.”
- He clears up his schedule for the rest of the day and offers to do whatever you want with you to help distract you a little from your problem.
- The next day, you hear your bullies panic with each other about someone who got a hold of their numbers and is now threatening to sue them.
- You snicker to yourself at this funny coincidence, but figure it’s best to just leave it alone. After all, they’re at least leaving you alone now!

My review:
I think I don’t really have to explain much, the title does a good job.This is going to be a little different than most reviews I do. I’m not going to comment every scene or comment on every step of the storyline, even though I will try to. For the most part I’m just going to ramble around for a bit. And try to write my thoughts down.
I remember when Cherry Magic fan edits popped up on youtube and it looked so cute I just had to watch it. During that time winter came into my town and another lockdown was around the corner. So, this show was really there to brighten my day once a week (or for a few days while I binge watched it).
The concept was really interesting, too. And here are my thoughts about it:
Adachi and Kurosawa
We start our story one day before our protagonsts 30th birthday. His name is Adachi. He has very low self esteem and and little confidence in himself (sounds familiar) but a big heart. It’s not always easy for him to say “no” (espacially to his co-worker). His life is mostly uneventful and repetitive. UNTIL one day on his 30th birthday he discover that the old wives’ tale that you develop powers if you are a virgin for 30years is actually true. He is able to hear peoples thoughts!
At the beginning he isn’t really sure if it’s just all in his head or if he really has this power. On his way to work he meets his co-worker Kurosawa. Due to a very crowded elevator, Kurosawa accidentally touches Adachi. Because of that, Adachi finds out that his super popular and super handsome co-worker is actually madly in love with him (relatable right?)
At first Adachi tries to ingore his powers. He can not be sure that the things he hears are really other people’s thoughts or just him making stuff up. He avoides crowds and Kurosawa. But fate just throws these two together again and again.
Since Adachi can read thoughts, every encounter he has with Kurosawa from now on excalates pretty quickly. Because our boy Kurosawa is just as horny as we all are. One day Kurosawa is being a “nice boy” and helps Adachi with the workload that his co-worker asked him to do. Totally selfless of course, not in any way him trying to be near his crush or anything noo. After hearing Kurosawa gushing over Adachi’s mole on his neck, that Adachi wasn’t even aware of, he is now pretty sure that his powers are real.
Adachi knows that - if the tale is true - he will only lose his powers if he also loses his virginity. And let me tell you something... Honestly, sex is probably really great and all but...you have powers. You are basically one step away of becoming a superhero. You can help people with that. Come one now, this show just proves that asexuals are above us all and are so powerful and deserve to be wizards. If you were able to life a life without sex to your 30s, it’s not that hard, you are almost halfway there. Just hold on.
This show follows mostly our two main leads, Adachi and Kurosawa, trying to manage their love for each other. But what makes Cherry Magic so sweet and heardwarming is the fact, that there are other topics being addressed besides same-sex-love. Like I said earlier, Adachi has extreme low self-esteeem and this is one of the biggest reasons why it takes so long for Adachi to realize and accept that he is not only in love with Kurosawa but also that he deserve this kind of love.
So many times, Adachi chickens out of telling Kurosawa how he feels and espacially when Kurosawa wants to take things to the next level, Adachi needs time. And Kurosawa respects that (bare minimum, but sadly the bar is so low) and gives Adachi time.
Kurosawa also suffers from some incecurities that he not often talks about, but since Adachi has his powers, we are often granted a quick look into Kurosawas head. And these little thought trains that we get tell us so much more about Kurosawa and fully flesh him out as a character.
We get to know about his fantasies, his wishes, his fears and insecurities. Sometimes, when Adachi reads Kurosawas mind, we get little fantasies. We see Adachi through Kurosawas eyes and it’s always a cute scene of Adachi smiling. We see how beautiful Kurosawa thinks of Adachi.
We get one episode from Kurosawas perspective, where we discover how Kurosawa fell in love with Adachi. He was always “aware” that he was there, but he never really “noticed” him. One day, when they both are having dinner with their boss and some random creepy lady, both realize pretty quickly, why they are really there (because of their looks). Kurosawa notices that Adachi does not drink alcohol and therefore he takes his glass and get’s drunk quickly.
Even though, it seems like a dumb thing to do, it tells you so much about Kurosawas character. How he wants to help people, even if that means he is the one to “suffer”. No matter the consequences, he helped his co-worker out there. The lady starts harassing Kurosawa and he turns her down in a very obvious way which was apparently something he wasn’t allowed to do. But fuck this lady and fuck his boss. Kurosawa, you did nothing wrong. She did.
He overhears his boss saying that Kurosawa is only a pretty face and apparently he can’t even do that right. This just gives him the rest and he leaves. Adachi, who was surprised by Kurosawa’s actions (drinking the alcohol for him), follows him outside to comfort him.
It’s a very touching backstory and it’s great that we get it in the middle of the show and not at the beginning, only allowing the characters to become more fleshed out.
When Adachi reads Kurosawa’s thoughts, he mostly thinks about how much he adores Adachi and how much he wants to help him becoming more confident. He often is pretty hard on himself and blames himself for things too often. He seems calm on the surface, but his inner-monologues show how much of a chaotic hopeless romantic he really is.
A reaccuring theme is Adachi being a little put off by how often Kurosawa get’s presents or just admiring looks or words. Because he get’s none and if so, he can’t really take compliments well.
What is really interesting is that through Adachi, we can hear that Kurosawa is not really enjoying all of this presents and kind words of his (mostly) female co-workers. He just wants to be praised for his work not his looks. Which is something only pretty people say. No, fr, I can only imagine that it’s super annoying that people only view you as “pretty” and therefore do not acknowledge your talents and skills. This show actually deals with that nicely. In Kurosawa’s episode he has this beautiful monologue: I had an advantage because of my looks. I hated that people only saw my looks. I knew it would annoy others if I talked about it. So, I pretended it didn’t bother me.
This show was not only about love, but also about loving and respecting yourself. Trusting yourself and gaining a little more confidence in yourself. What I loved so much about Kurosawa and Adachi is that they bring out the best in each other and help each other in so many ways.
At one point, Adachi tells Kurosawa the truth about his powers. Kurosawa tells him that he actually is happy that he has his powers, since they were the reason they got together in the first place.
But Adachi is not so happy about it. He grew used of the powers and now fears that his relationship won’t work out with Kurosawa, once he loses them. Since he wouldn’t be able to read his mind anymore, like he used to. The only option Adachi sees is: breaking up. And since Kurosawa respects his wishes, he leaves (hoping that Adachi would fight for him and maybe hold him back).
They make up in the end, when Adachi realizes that maybe communicating would be another option they have left. Because, guess what, that’s what most people do. So, they get back together and Kurosawa basically proposes to Adachi, which seemed...quite abruptly tbh. But hey, everyone has their own pace.
Minato and Tsuge
Tsuge is Adachi’s best friend and also a virgin. Later, he becomes a wizard like Adachi, being able to read minds. He is a writer and spends his time at home 20/7, the 4 hours are probably just the hours he is willing to leave for grocery shopping and eating out with Adachi.
He has a really sweet cat and this cat will help him get him his future boyfriend. Minato, is his name. He works as a deliveryman. Tsuge doesn’t like Minato very much, since he is a so called “youngster” (oh gosh I think a brain cell just died while writing this).
Minato feels the same way about Tsuge “the old man”, but does love his cat. Tsuge develops feelings for Minato pretty quickly and even begins to stalks him, to find out more about him. He orders so much stuff from different shops just so this guy would show up at his doorstep again.
He finds out that Minato is actually trying to fullfil his dreams of becoming a dancer.
While it would’ve been a sweet idea, this couple couldn’t really win me over. First and foremost, how old is Minato supposed to be? The actor was at that point approximately 20/21 and he looks way younger than that tbh. And in the show it’s never stated how old he is, his love interest states multiple times that he is “young” and refers to him as “the youngster(s)”. And it’s clear that Tsuge is 30. So...I just can’t ship them. Like, they are both of age and adults but it still feels weird for some reason. If the actor would at least look older...I guess that would maybe change my view on them. In reallife they are 6 (?) years apart which is still a lot but way less than what seems to be 8 or 10 years on the show.
It really didn’t help that Tsuge was the one initiating the relatioship and stalking Minato. Others called him even a pervert and honestly...he acted like one. Secretly talking pictures of someone, following them around, etc.
On top of that, their scenes often included cringy / over the top acting and triggered my second-hand embarassment, which...was that really necessary? Maybe, it was part of Tsuge’s character in the Manga, but you just can’t translate everything into a life-action show, because it looks hideous and awkward. In the more serious scene that Tsuge was in, he actually wasn’t all that bad.
I can take cringy acting, that’s how I survived most BL’s actually. But was it really necessary to have Tsuge kneel before Minato and scream at him how sorry he is in public? While people are watching? And Minato doesn’t really seem to be delighted by that. I’m sorry, but that’s where I draw the line, my cringe-o-meter exploded. I’m a very private and introverted person, so that just wasn’t it for me.
It actually hurts my heart that so many people think this is how socially awkward people behave, which - as a socially awkward person - I can’t confirm. We don’t flinch everytime people touch us, we don’t scream and shout and talk very fast, when we get nervous (at least not to that extent). And we don’t...ugh..back to the series.
I mean they had potential, they could’ve been cute and I don’t mind if anyone is shipping them, it’s just really icky to me and I can’t do that.
Things I disliked
The actors ages. I mean, I know that most asians look very young, but come on. No one can tell me that these guys are supposed to be 30. I guess the actor of Kurosawa was about 29 (?) so he comes closest (he doesn’t look like he is 30 but I appreciate the attempt) but the others...They just don’t look like they are 30. And please, don’t cast some really young-looking dude as the love interest of a supposedly 30-year old.
Over the top “humorous scenes”. It doesn’t make me laugh, just cringe. But this happened only with scenes between Minato and Tsuge. Sometimes, I just skipped them. But yeah...not everyone’s tea I guess.
No kiss. I don’t need NC scenes or anything too intimate. But the whole no-kissing seems more like a “no homo” situation here. These guys are insanely in love and are basically married and you tell me that they didn’t even kiss on camera ONCE? Don’t tell me they are asexual or anything (even though I would love to see more representation like that, I mean if the actors don’t wanna kiss or the management is against it, why not create a little more representation while you’re at it?) because I would support that, they just didn’t want to show that or maybe the actors didn’t want to kiss. But then again I ask myself...why not cast actors who actually want to act out the role? Or was it a management issue? Whatever it was, defiinitely made it seem less believeable and it felt more rushed. Like, even if you give me the classic “fish kiss” with eyes wide open and it’s basically just them pressing their lips together...this treatment most Korean BLs get (thank you TMS honestly) it would’ve been better imo.
Also, Minato and Tsuge had a kissing scene (it wasn’t good but still). And that even further aligns with my theory of the actors or the management not wanting them to kiss. But this show is still cute and enjoyable, so I’ll let it slide this one time.
Rushed ending. Like I already said, this kind-of-proposal came out of nowhere for me and felt rushed. Sure, they know each other for years, but they only began to grow closer over the last couple weeks. Shouldn’t they start with dating first, then go to living together for a few couple of months and then - after really being sure that they want it and after talking it through - propose? But hey, I’m the single one here, so maybe I am in the wrong here.
Things I liked
How they handlded Adachi’s powers. Adachi was suddenly able to read peoples thoughts. One of the most private and intimate things. And Kurosawa was just like ‘“k, I’m actually glad you secretly kept reading my thoughts” which seemed a little too anti-climactic. Please, sweety at least pretend that you are a little hurt that your boyfriend kept reading your most private thoughts. It’s like someone reading your diary without your permission.
But apart from that, they handlded it actually quite well. Adachi wasn’t super okay with reading other people’s thoughts. He didn’t use it for revenge, there were no bad intentions. He always wanted to help and only used it as a way to help others or clear things up. When he did use it for his own advantage, he felt bad afterwards.
Miscommunication subplot. Overused, lame, just for the sake of plot, annoying - these are the first things that come into my mind, when thinking about miscommunication subplots. But Cherry Magic actually did a decent job at it. There was a miscommunicating subplot at the end and I expected to hate it, but I actually did like it.
It makes so much sense here, since Adachi was so used to his powers at some point, that losing them seemed like he was no longer able to understand people or their feelings. The “oh no I lost my powers and since I used them to understand Kurosawa better I don’t know if we can be together now that I don’t have them anymore” struggle seems realistic.
Tsuge only made it worse by saying: “I forgot how difficult it is to sense other’s feelings [without being ablte to read their thoughts]” after having a minor fight with Minato. And since Adachi is a person that worries and overthinks quite often and easily, he didn’t take it too well. It could’ve been so much better, if they did actually drag it out a little more. But maybe it’s for the better like that. They got the most important points across, even though they resolved it pretty quickly.
No happily ever after. This title is actually a little misleading, since the couple did get a happy ending. What I mean with that is that they didn’t give the couple a “they are now offically a couple so there story ends with that”. Most shows think that viewers only want to see the couple coming together and call it a day. In Cherry Magic the story doesn’t end with them getting together. We see them struggle with their relationship, going on cute dates, breaking up, resolving their issues and semi-propose.
It’s nothing new or groundbreaking, but it’s rare and refreshing to see. I do like that shows always try to give us the “and all was well” happy ending after they get together, but seeing storyline like Cherry Magic, where they actually deal with them being a couple and show us their ups and dows, I really appreciate that.
Special episodes. IIRC there are a total of 3 special episodes that are just the cherry on top of this cake. I really did enjoy them. They weren’t necessary for the story to work, but were a nice add to it. Pure fluff and comedy. Speaking of fluff-
Fluff and feel-good. This show in no way ITSAY or MOD and nowhere near them. It doesn’t make you ugly cry at 3 o’clock in the morning. And it’s not a mystery where you sit at the edge of your seat, trying to figure out who is the big bad guy. But - and this is important - this show is not meant for you to feel these kind of emotions. Cherry Magic is more of a rom-com. A feel-good show. Some sort of “grab your blanket and some hot chocolate and watch it and feel safe” kind of show. Espacially needed during whatever the hell is going on right now.
So, if you ever want a show, where the leads are adorable and relatable, where there is a little sprinkle of magic and a ton of fluff and you just wanna lay back and find a safe space to escape reality, this is the show for you.
I think this covers my thoughts on this series. Thanks for reading. Check out my other reviews.

Episode I
The seeds are sown...
“Shidou...Shidou....Isamu Shidou pay attention!” There was a dull thud as Isamu was thrown out of his thoughts by the sudden acquaintance of his head and the teacher’s book. At his old school, the boy in question would never have gotten in trouble for daydreaming in class, let alone assaulted for it.
“Gah! I’m sorry, Ms. Mazawa! It won’t happen again!” Isamu exclaimed, bolting from his chair and bowing repeatedly while he rubbed the back of his skull, certain a bump would develop where he’d been struck with the teacher’s book. He pictured something large and swelling, hopefully enough to get him out of math next period, but would go down before soccer practice after school.
“Honestly!” She huffed, twirling her graying hair in exasperation, “Shidou, this is the third time this week. You know I hate doing this, but if you can’t be bothered to pay attention to the lesson I’m going to have to keep you after school.”
Aside from the streaks of grey in her hair, Ms. Mazawa didn’t look more than a few years passed thirty, but her barbaric teaching methods made her seem centuries older. Isamu suspected she might be one of the old monsters of folklore, maybe Arikura-no-baba or Osakabe, but Isamu really didn’t care enough to try to research which one she could be.
“Yeah right you don’t like doing it, you keep kids after school all the time.” A chill ran up Isamu’s spine as Ms Mazawa’s irritated scowl deepened into a glare, making him overly aware of the fact that he had said this out loud instead of keeping it in his head.
She swatted him upside the head with her book a second time. “Shidou, I was just going to keep you in class for thirty minutes to reread today’s lesson, but your smart mouth just earned you a detention spent setting up the cafeteria for the archery club’s fundraiser tonight!” She declared.
“Y-yes ma’am!” Isamu stuttered, getting a giggle out of his classmates, “I’m sorry ma’am!”
“I hope you are.” Ms. Mazawa replied and turned to go back to the front of the class.
Isamu sighed and returned to his seat, brushing brown bangs out of his face and looking at his desk. At his old school, his classmates would have been laughing with him, not at him, he thought reminiscing, again, about his former life. The bangs he just moved fell right back into his eyes. He really needed to find something to keep his hair in place.
“Psst! Isamu!” He turned around at the sound of his name and saw his classmate Masato Namura give him a thumbs up. Beside him, Aki Mikami pushed up his glasses and awkwardly waved at him.
Isamu gave a small nod of acknowledgment to the both of them before facing the front of the class. The two of them were nowhere near the top of the food chain in this school’s social hierarchy, but they were the only friends he had here. He turned his head back out the window, catching his phantom reflection in the glass. How was it that he only had two friends? At his old school he was the cool popular kid that was friends with everyone, how did he become so bad at connecting to people?
In the glass, Isamu noticed more than just his own blue-eyed reflection. Just outside the door way he could make out the faint image of someone standing just outside their classroom. He looked that way just to be sure it wasn’t a trick of the light. Yes, there was a girl standing there, waiting to be invited in.
“Now that that’s out of the way, class...” Ms. Mazawa said, turning to the door, “We have a new student transferring today. Please give her a warm welcome. You can come in now, dear.”
The girl stepped in front of the class with her head held high. The students all have short gasps of amazement at the fact that she dared come in without her uniform on. The transfer student was wearing casual clothes, ankle length beige pants with green trimming that matched her Chinese style shirt and held her bag in front of her like a purse, rather than a backpack. Oddly, the thing that stood out about her wasn’t her lack of uniform, but the fact that she was wearing a white fingerless glove on her left hand with what appeared to be a strange digital watch over it.
“Hello.” She said to them, pulling a strand of her black hair behind her ear. “My name is Ju Ling, my family and I just moved here from Bejing. I don’t have my school uniform yet because of a mix up that gave me the wrong size.” She looked over at Ms. Mazawa who waved her hands for her to continue, “I'm an only child who likes computers, though I’m not necessarily very good with them. Thank you for having me, I look forward to joining your class.”
With a bow, she concluded her introduction and looked at Ms. Mazawa again who directed her to take the open seat next to Isamu. They whispered something to each other and Ju giggled as she came forward, Ms, Mazawa had probably instructed her to make sure he didn’t start daydreaming again. Isamu sighed and began scratching notes on the lecture.
This was going to be a long day...
When the last bell of the day rang, Isamu almost forgot about his detention and started out the door with Aki and Masato when Ms. Mazawa reminded him of his unwanted duties. Basically he was setting up chairs and tables for an hour and half, rather than the half hour lesson he would have gotten if he hadn’t mouthed off, but still that was an hour and a half Isamu wasn’t spending at the park practicing with Aki and Masato.
Another defeated sigh escaped him, tryouts for the Soccer team were a few weeks away, Masato was the right midfielder and Isamu had been the striker for the team at his old school, but Aki had never played an official game. Isamu felt terrible that he had to miss out on training Aki, the blond haired boy wasn’t awful by any means but he needed as much support as possible.
The archery club supervisor met him outside the door where he saw another of his classmates, Kaiyo Nakano, lined up as a volunteer. Isamu knew she was a volunteer, number one because he knew she hadn’t gotten in trouble, secondly because Kaiyo seemed to volunteer to help out with every club, though she was only an active member of the chess club.
“Hey, Shidou, I’ve already signed us both in” Kaiyo greeted, taking the opportunity to partner up with him, “It’s easier for me to work when I’m not in a skirt, so I’m going to change out of my uniform before we start. You go ahead and change too, that way you can just leave right after we’re done.”
“Oh? Okay, thanks.” Isamu replied, he hadn’t even known they were supposed to sign in as volunteers, but with Ms. Mazawa nowhere in sight, he supposed there had to be some way for them to prove he’d actually done the detention work. Deciding not to waste time, Isamu went to his locker at a slight jog and grabbed his casual clothes to change in the nearby boys bathroom.
As he swapped clothes Isamu’s text alert beeped and he juggled his phone to check it as long as there was no one to scold him for texting when he should be working. The message was from Gorou, a friend from his old school. Isamu’s heart skipped a beat, he’d messaged Gorou about hanging out over the weekend three days ago, what had taken him so long to reply? To his disappointment, Isamu opened the text to find a simple “Sorry, can’t come ¯\_(ツ)_/¯” in response to his invitation.
Isamu dejectedly put his phone away without replying and finished changing so he could get to work. He stepped out of the stall sporting a pair of capris and white shirt with the word “REAL” printed in english lettering on the front, and a black track jacket with blue stripes running down the sleeves. He folded his uniform into his school bag and started back to the gym, running into Kaiyo again on the way.
Apparently she’d had the same idea to change in the girl’s bathroom. She was dressed in a pale pink shirt with the words ‘Be Kind” written under a graphic resembling a heart made out of an arrow, an army green jacket, light shorts, and long striped socks.
“Looking sharp. Leave your bag by the door and don’t forget to pick it up when you leave” She winked at him with a friendly, teasing tone and led the way back, and took him over to a supply closet once they dropped off their bags. She went on to explain “It's actually not a lot of work to get this all set up, but it takes two people to carry one table, sometimes more for the big ones. Mr. Kojima and Mrs. Arai will tell us where to put them, we just have to coordinate and do the heavy lifting.”
She wasn’t kidding about it being heavy, Isamu could hear her grunt as she pulled a table out from the closet and was soon grunting himself as he grabbed the other end and helped her lift it away. “And you volunteered to do this?” He blurted without thinking, he really needed to stop that, it usually got a laugh in his old town, but around here, it usually got him in trouble.
But to his surprise, Kaiyo did laugh, “What can I say? I like to keep busy. It sure beats going straight to my homework.” She said, they both paused for a moment while the supervisors instructed them on where to move the table to. Kaiyo showed him how to set it up, and they were quick to return to the supply closet to get another table.
For a little while, Isamu actually felt like he was finally connecting to people as Kaiyo introduced him to other students from around the school. He’d never needed anything but soccer in his life for a long time, but as he was socializing with the volunteers and other kids in detention, Isamu thought Kaiyo probably had the right idea by volunteering with other clubs outside of his personal interests.
It didn’t take long to get everything set up, and as much fun as this had surprisingly turned out to be, Isamu was the first one out the door when everything was done- after just barely an hour rather than the hour and a half they’d thought it would take. What were the odds that Aki and Masato were still at the park? Isamu didn’t want to leave them hanging, and considered texting them when he found there was no need to.
They were waiting outside the school gates for him, already changed out of their uniforms. Masato had dark grey jeans with yellow stripes on the side, and a vest half zipped over an old graphic tee from the 80s. His dark brown hair was kept out of his bangs with a red bandana that, for some reason, Ms. Mazawa let him where in class.
“Man, they sure kept you in there long enough, did’ja have to clean the toilets with a toothbrush or something?” Masato griped as he picked his bag off the ground and stood back from the school gate.
“Ms. Mazawa told him to help set up for the archery club, I don’t think that’s what they do in detention.” Aki told him and pushed up his glasses, his white jacket was zipped up all the way and had an orange stripe running horizontally across his chest and shoulders. He had dark green pants tucked into long boots, and his bag was strapped over his shoulder.
“What would you know about it? You’ve never gotten a detention!” Masato teased, lightly punching Aki’s shoulder, playfully, Aki stepped on his foot in response.
“He will if he keeps hanging out with you.” Isamu joked back and turned to Aki, “And yeah, I was totally scrubbing toilets with a toothbrush, all detention kids have to!”
The look on Aki’s face was priceless, it took all of his will power not to laugh, “Y-you’re kidding, right!?” His glasses slipped further down his nose and once more he had to push them back into place.
“About the toilets or about you getting in detention because of me?” Masato slinging his arms around each of their shoulders, at which point Isamu couldn’t help laughing, ruining the joke entirely.
“Well, never mind.” He said, freeing himself from Masato and sticking his hands in the pockets of his jacket. “Sorry to have kept you guys waiting, you still free for practice or-”
“-Shidou!” All three of them turned to look, surprised to hear Kaiyo calling for Isamu.
She was running toward them from the school entrance. She’d been a volunteer and was free to go whenever, but Isamu was under the impression that she was going to stick around to decorate too. His face flushed a little when he saw the reason she was running to catch up with him.
“What’s up Nakano, can’t you see we’re trying to escape from this place?” Masato trilled with a mischievous grin.
Kaiyo skidded to a stop and panted for a second before she looked at Isamu and smiled as she handed him the bag she was carrying with her. His bag, that he must have left at the fundraiser despite her warning not to. “You forgot this.” She winked at him, “Tanizaki wanted to hang it from the basketball hoop but I told him it was mine. You owe me big time.”
“Ah, th-thanks Nakano.” Isamu replied, taking his bag back and flipping it over his shoulders.
She waved her hand dismissively, “You can just call me Kaiyo if you want.” she said, hiking her own bag onto her shoulders and turned away, heading down another street, before shouting over her shoulder “See you guys in class tomorrow! Don’t forget your homework again, Namura or Ms. Mazawa might actually make you eat lunch in the hall this time!”
Masato made a face while Isamu quirked his eyebrow at the bizarre sounding punishment, “It’s worse than it sounds,” Masato said, “Anyway, I guess I better get home and do that homework. You guys alright practicing without me?”
“Actually, I’d better do the homework too.” Aki said, pushing up his glasses and looking at the ground, “After all we have that math test coming up and it’s my worst subject.”
“You say that about every subject.” Isamu rolled his eyes slighting, very aware that he needed the practice for the math test more than he needed practice for the soccer try-outs, “Man, sorry about the detention guys, I hate to have you waiting for me and not have time to actually practice.”
Masato clapped his shoulder, “It’s alright, we can practice for a while and then do homework together at the park. I fail, you fail, what do you say? We can always practice more this weekend, you guys free?”
“I’m always free.” Aki replied with a shrug. “And studying together would probably be good for all of us, too” they both turned to Isamu, waiting to hear his answer.
His fingers brushed his phone and thought about Gorou, but remembered that his friend claimed to be too busy to hang out this weekend- somethin he was never too busy for when they lived on the same side of the river. “Yeah, I’m free too. Who wants to race- huh?”
Isamu paused mid sentence, staring up at the building across the street where the air had seemed to distort for a second. Aki and Masato both looked the same way, but there was nothing to see. Isamu quickly dismissed it as a trick of the light, “Sorry, seeing things I guess.” He said, though he couldn’t shake the sudden feeling of being watched, “Anyway, I’ll race you guys to the park!” He pushed his way passed them and took off at a run, giving them no choice but to give chase.
Isamu laughed as he ran, Masato quickly started gaining on him with Aki no more than a few feet behind. The park was a few blocks away, and all three of them were exhausted from the run, “I’m.. so...slow…” Aki complained as they panted by the water fountain.
Masato checked the clock on his phone, “Actually... I think we... broke our record” He said.
Isamu clapped Aki’s shoulder, coughing slightly, “And you... kept up, just fine...I had guys on my team… At my old school...who were much slower…” He told him.
It took a few more minutes to convince Aki that he had done well, before they all agreed to sit at a picnic table and complete one page of homework before they started practice. Working together they actually managed to complete two pages before they remembered they wanted to practice some, too. Aki had a duffle bag which he kept his swimming trunks and towel in, as well as his uniform and clothes when he needed to change, and now it had become home to their soccer ball.
Between homework and practice, Isamu forgot about the strange distortion he’d seen outside the school, but while they were practicing the feeling of being watched started to creep up on him again. Not wanting to frighten Aki or Masato, he ignored the feeling and focused entirely on being the instructor, teaching both of them a trick he’d picked up at his old school to pass the ball between teammates while feigning a shot at the goal to confuse the other team.
At long last, they’d had enough practice and went back to their homework where it was harder to ignore the feeling of being watched. It was starting to alarm Isamu greatly, “Man, guys, I’m starting to get really tired” He sad, stretching to try to avoid suspicion of why he was suddenly backing out of the study group, “I think I’m finally getting this, so I’m going to head home for dinner and finish up tonight. I can text if I need extra help right?”
Masato nodded, “Yeah, it’s starting to get late, too” he said, “My aunt will get worried if I don’t at least call.” Aki agreed, and they all got up to leave the park- the feeling following Isamu, though neither Aki nor Masato seemed to be concerned. Whatever it was, he didn’t want to put them in danger so he tried to discreetly hurry them along.
However, the three of them spent a few extra minutes talking on the side of the road and finalizing plans for their weekend meet up before they finally parted ways. Aki and Masato lived three blocks away from each other, but Isamu lived in an apartment in the opposite direction.
Having lived down here long enough to have learned a few short cuts, Isamu avoided the crowded main roads by taking less used alleyways, hoping to lose whatever was haunting him. This particular street was a back road behind a few convenience stores that occasionally company trucks used for deliveries, but Isamu rarely saw anyone actually using them.
His text alert beeped again, making him jump slightly, but he stopped to check it, this time the message was from another of his friends from his old school canceling their plans to hang out the next day. Isamu frowned and put his phone in his pocket without texting back. He’d only moved across the river for his father’s new job. Why was it so hard for everyone to meet him?
The boy became so lost in his thoughts that his sense of alertness started to fail. Isamu had his phone out again, looking up what assignments he had to for his classes and trying to decide what he needed to complete after dinner and what could be done during lunch tomorrow when he noticed movement. Isamu looked up, now absolutely certain that it was not just his imagination, or a trick of the light.
Where he had seen nothing but an odd ripple from the corner of his eye, something melded into view. It looked like a giant chameleon wearing military gear. “Found a good one!” A raspy voice called out from the monster’s direction. Wait- that thing wasn’t the one speaking was it?
Faster than Isamu could make a run for it, a long slimy tongue lashed out of the creature’s mouth and wrapped around his body. He screamed and wiggled desperately, but was yanked closer to the chameleon’s open maw. Isamu closed his eyes, not wanting to see his upcoming doom, and wondering if the creature would kill him first or if it intended to swallow him whole and alive.
Neither option appeared to be the case, however as mere meters from the beast’s jaws, the tongue suddenly lifted him high. Isamu hardly dared to open his eyes again, but eventually had to when the raspy voice demanded he did, confirming that it was in fact the giant chameleon that was speaking.
Isamu struggled to breathe in the firm grip of the tongue, but did as commanded and opened his eyes to look at the creature, which was scrutinizing him the same way he might inspect the latest electronics while deciding what was better quality.
“Yes, yes. You’ll do.” The monster muttered, Isamu whimpered as the tongue started to retract back toward the creature’s mouth, certain that this time he was going to be lizard chow, but to his relief, Isamu’s toes brushed the ground and he was released. Isamu toppled over, landing face first onto the pavement. “You’ll do just fine.”
Instinct told Isamu to get up and run, but logic reminded him that the creature would catch him with its tongue again if he tried...and maybe this time he would end up as dinner. “I...I’ll do just fine for what...?” Isamu asked, clearly food wasn’t what this monster was after, for now at least, but he had no idea what it really wanted from him.
The answer came with a massive foot being pressed onto his back, pinning him to the ground. “My Tamer!” The creature replied, “I am Chamelemon! And I need a leader like you to make me stronger!”
Chamelemon spoke as if Isamu should know what that meant, “You seem plenty strong to me!” He said, and wound up again regretting his tendency to say what was on his mind, when the pressure on his back increased as Chamelemon pushed him harder into the ground.
“Don’t be a fool! I barely scrapped through the war on my own! I need you to be my Tamer!” Chamelemon growled, “Now, make me stronger or I’ll kill you!”
Isamu wasn’t really in a position to say no, even if that’s all he wanted to do. Who did this thing think he was, what did he mean leader? Sure he had taken charge of Soccer practice but that hardly made him a leader. What could someone as powerless as Isamu do to make Chamelemon stronger? Two shapes appeared in Isamu’s peripheral vision, a black one and a white one. Female voices cried out strange words.
"Moon Surge!”
“Sun Bash!”
He managed to turn his head just enough to see the white shape, some kind of dog-like animal, shoot a small blast of light energy at Chamelemon. Though Isamu couldn’t see it, the black one on the other side of him was doing the same thing. The combined blast was powerful enough to knock Chamelemon back, allowing Isamu to scramble away.
With a good look at his rescuers now, Isamu realized that they were an almost identical pair. The canine features extended only to their faces and body shapes, their ears were long and tipped with tuffs of fur that were red on the black creature and blue on the other. They had long tails with spikes on the end.
“Ju! Get ready” The white one called, glancing behind her, passed Isamu forcing him to look as well.
He was surprised to see the girl that had transferred into class just that day. Ju looked equally surprised to see him, but didn’t dwell on it long as she focused on whatever it was that the white creature had told her to prepare for. Ju lifted her arm, pressing buttons on her digital watch.
The black one dodged a lashing from Chamelemon’s tongue, “Leptomon! Ju! We need to act now!”
“Don’t rush her, Cannismon!” the other replied, shooting another blast of energy from her mouth.
“All set!” Ju called, looking up from her glove, “Do it!”
The small dogs leaped between Isamu and Chamelemon, and their bodies began to glow. “Eclipse Snare!” they cried in unison and bounded forward, black and white energy trailed their every move.
Chamelemon attempted to squash them with both his tongue and his claws but Cannismon and Leptomon were much faster than him. The pair encircled him several times before their glow diminished and they sprinted away . The trail of energy they’d left behind tightened like a noose, trapping Chamelemon in its coil!
Ju took a few long strides forward, holding her gloved hand in front of her, “Initiate data conversion!” She shouted.
A computerized voice replied “Data conversion initiating.” A beam of light shot out of Ju’s watch and struck the giant lizard. Chamelemon started to pixelate, “Conversion in progress.”
“No!” Chamelemon struggled in his bonds, much like Isamu had while trapped by his tongue, and just as fruitlessly. Bits of his body broke off in small pixels and were dragged down the beam into the watch. The process was slow at first but picked up speed, and soon there wasn’t enough of Chamelemon left to struggle.
When he vanished entirely, the beam returned to Ju’s watch and the computer voice announced, “Conversion complete. Scanning new data....Scan complete. Digimon identified: Chamelemon. Would you like to view Chamelemon’s profile?”
“Not now.” Ju said and lowered her arm, pressing another button on her wristwatch.
The air around them pixelated in a similar manner to how Chamelemon had vanished, but aside from that, nothing seemed to change. “Digital Construct deactivated.” The computer said.
Ju then turned to Isamu, “You alright?” She asked.
Isamu’s mouth was hanging open in shock, “Wha- Did you kill it?” He asked.
Ju laughed, “What? No! No, I never kill Digimon. I just converted his data into something a little easier to carry.”
Isamu jumped when two small bodies suddenly pressed up against him, “If a Tamer converts a realized Digimon back into scan data, they can take them back to the Network, or even all the way back to the Digital World!” The one that had been called Leptomon said, bumping her head against Isamu’s hand like she wanted him to pet her.
“We always send the hostile ones back to the Digital World. If they attack humans in this world they’re not going to be welcome in the Network.” Cannismon added, wagging her tail, but keeping back from Isamu.
“Digimon? Network? Digital World?” Isamu looked at Ju for some kind of explanation, but the transfer student was busy giggling.
Finally she stepped over and offered him her hand to help him back to his feet. “That’s a little hard to explain, but Cannismon and Leptomon seem to like you, and they don’t usually warm up to strangers. Maybe Chamelemon was onto something, choosing you.”
“I don’t understand.” Isamu exclaimed, digging his hands into his pocket, “Choosing me for what?”
“To be a Digimon Tamer.” She replied, lifting her glove to him so that he could see that it was not a watch on her wrist. She lowered it and held her hand out again, this time in greeting. “I know I introduced myself this morning, but I think we should have a more proper one. I’m Ju Ling, I’ve been a Tamer for three years. These are my partners, Cannismon, and Leptomon.”
“Nice to meet you!” Leptomon said with a sing-song-voice, Cannismon gave the same response in a less enthusiastic tone.
“Hi, nice to meet you. I’m Isamu Shidou.” He replied, shaking Ju’s hand and looking at the creatures at their feet for a moment before turning his eyes back to Ju. “What’s a Tamer?”

Imagine Two: Finding out you’re not taking care of yourself
Preface : You are an idol as well, and you haven’t seen your boy in over a week, as you’ve been working yourself to the bone. You haven’t been eating or sleeping right, and it’s starting to show- one night you stop by your home with the intention to change clothes and head back out, but you find that your boy has been waiting for you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Otoya’s head would’ve turned as soon as he heard the door open, standing up from his seat on the couch to greet you. He seemed fairly concerned at first, but his eyes would widen in shock and the concern would double once he had taken you in. His eyebrows would furrow and he’d cross the room, placing his hands on your arms before you could even close the door or register that he was in your apartment. His crimson eyes are darting over your face worriedly, and his expression turns stern, though the expression doesn’t reach his eyes, still full of worry. “How hard have you been working yourself? If you aren’t careful you’re going to collapse!” He pulls you into a tight hug, his voice sounds almost scared, though he’s clearly trying not to show it. “What if something happens to you? I’m sorry I didn’t step in earlier, but I’m here now.”
Masato is sitting on your couch, his hands in his lap. He doesn’t seem to be doing anything when you walk in, but his head turns when you enter. He begins to smile at you, but it dies before it’s finished, turning into a deep frown instead. “I was worried this was what happened.” He’d say quietly, as he stands from his seat. He’d approach you, pulling you into the apartment gently and closing the door. He’d lead you to the couch, forcing you to sit, before heading to the kitchen. His lecture begins as he starts to move around your kitchen. “What you’re doing is very dangerous, you know. I know how important this job is to you, but you won’t be able to do it if you’ve made yourself sick.” He’d enter the living room with a quickly prepared meal, and he’d set it on the coffee table in front of you. “Eat.” He says quietly. “I’m not going to sit here and watch you wither away.”
Natsuki hadn’t expected this at all. He’d known you were busy, but when you walked in and he finally got a good look at you, his expression turned from excited to something akin to horror. You looked terrible. He hadn’t been sitting in the first place- he had been wandering around the apartment, but he moves over to you quickly. He envelopes you in a hug, but it isn’t a normal Natsuki hug. It’s so careful, like he’s afraid that he’ll break you. “You look so pale.” His eyebrows are drawn tight, his expression pained. “Why are you doing this to yourself? It doesn’t matter how much you like working, you have to have some sort of balance. You’re hurting yourself, and that isn’t okay.” He pets your hair, holding you for another moment. He pulls away, trying to smile at you, but his face is still incredibly worried. “Go sit down, okay! I’ll make you something!”
Tokiya expects the sight that greets him when you walk in. He’d been there before, after all, and he had seen the signs. His biggest regret was that it took him this long to intervene, in the foolish hope that he was wrong. He doesn’t stand up from the couch, and instead he pats the spot next to him, gesturing for you to sit down. He looks serious, more so than he usually does. He lets out a sigh, his eyebrows furrowing. “I see you’ve been overworking yourself. I understand why you’re doing this.” He sets his hand on your knee, squeezing it lightly. “But what you’re doing is incredibly dangerous. I’ll help you. I know what helped me most was having people there for me, and I want to be that person for you. If you need reminders to slow down, or a plan to follow, I’ll help. Please, let me. I care for you, and I don’t want to see anything happen to you. Please don’t fall down the same path that I did.”
Ren is leaning against the couch when the door opens, and he’s silent for a moment as his eyes take you in. The first thing he says is your name. Your full first name, no nicknames, no endearments- just your name. His voice is disappointed. He’d seen this before with Tokiya- and while he’s incredibly disappointed to see that you don’t care enough about yourself to take care of yourself, he’s also disappointed in himself for not dealing with this sooner. “I was afraid that this is what was going on, but I had really hoped I was wrong.” He walks up to you, his face stern. His eyes are unreadable. “I love you. And that’s why I’m going to be much stricter from here on out. I refuse to stand by idly and watch as you waste away to nothing. If I need to speak to your manager myself, I will, because clearly boundaries need to be set.” He’d place his hand against your cheek. “You’re unbelievably important to me. And hopefully I can help you realize how important you should be to yourself, too.”
Syo hadn’t considered that this was what you had been doing. He’d be partway through greeting you when his voice would fall silent. He’d stare at you for a moment, hoping that the light was playing tricks and making you look sickly pale. He slowly approaches you, and to his dismay he realizes that isn’t the case. “Why?” It’s the first thing that comes to his mind, and it’s out of his mouth before he realizes it. “You’re just sick... right?” He takes another look at you. You look tired. Malnourished. He knows he’s wrong. He knew when he asked. He frowns. “You’re doing this to yourself, aren’t you?” It’s a question that doesn’t need an answer. “That’s... well, it’s not okay. But it’s going to be. I’m going to make sure you start taking better care of yourself.” He grabs your hand, pulling you to your bed. “C’mon. You need to get some rest, okay?” He ruffles your hair. “You’re going to get better, and I’m going to help you- so don’t worry, alright?”
Cecil was distracting himself with things in the room, but as soon as he hears the door open he’s headed towards it, an excited smile on his face. “It feels like it’s been so long since I’ve-” His voice finally trails off when he takes in your appearance, and his face shifts multiple times. At first it’s surprise, and then it’s curious, and it finally settles on worried. His hands are on your face, warm, and he brings his face closer to yours, examining it. His thumbs run lightly under your eyes. “You haven’t been sleeping.” He frowns. He thinks it through for a moment, and his frown seems to get even deeper. “How hard have you been working? Is that what this is?” He drops his hands to your shoulders, his face still very close to yours. “You shouldn’t overwork yourself. None of us want to see you hurting. Especially not me. Please don’t do this to yourself.” He finally pulls you into a hug, rubbing your back. “Please start taking better care of yourself. You’re always lovely, but you’re much lovelier when you’re healthy.”
“There you are!” Reiji’s voice rings out across the room as soon as the door opens, before he can get a good look at you. “Oh.” His voice sounds surprised, and his arms freeze for a second in the outspread position they had started to get in, to pull you into a hug. He lets them fall to his side, and his face is unreadable as he takes a second to take you in. He’d sigh, and he’d step closer to you, setting his hand on your head, and he smiles sadly. “I’m sorry to see that you’ve let it get this far, my (girl/boy). But Reiji is here now to help you through this.” He’d wrap an arm around you, squeezing you gently against himself. He’d let you go, to go into the kitchen. “I’ll make you something delicious! So you just go sit down and relax, okay? No arguments!” He’d shuffle around the kitchen, whipping something together as quickly as he can. He’d bring you the plate with a smile. “Eat up, alright? Then off to bed with you! You’ve got to rest up so that you can get better. And we’re going to work really hard to make sure this doesn’t happen again. It’s going to be tough, but your health comes first. No matter what.”
“What the fuck?” This is Ranmaru’s first response to seeing you step into the room. He was planning to get on you about the week of radio silence- but after seeing the situation he decided that wasn’t his main issue right now. “You look terrible.” He says bluntly, finally making his way to stand in front of you. He crosses his arms. He looks you up and down, his expression hard and his eyes narrowed. “So this is what you’ve been up to. Or I guess it’s what you haven’t been up to. When was the last time you even slept?” His voice is gruff. “Are you trying to end up in the hospital? Because that’s where you’re heading.” He pulls you into your room, shutting the door. He starts to pull you towards the bed, and he waits until you’ve climbed into it, and then he moves to lay down as well, right behind you. His arms wraps around your waist, almost like a restraint. “Sleep.” He grunts. “We’ll talk about this more later.”
Ai had been able to hear your footsteps before you had actually entered the room, and he’s sitting on the edge of your bed, just staring at the door. His expression remains blank as he takes your physical state in. He’d stand, still quiet as he approaches you, and he’d gently usher you towards your bed. “Go sit down.” He’d order. His thoughts aren’t shown on his face or in his voice. He shuts the door, going back to you, sitting on your bed. He grabs your arm, pressing his index and middle finger over the pulse spot on your wrist. He leans towards your face, his wide, blue eyes staring into your own eyes. He brings his hand up to lightly grip your chin, turning your head side to side to better look at it. “You’re exhausted, malnourished and possibly dehydrated.” His voice starts matter of fact, but it softens as he continues talking. “You’re only human, you know. Your body can’t handle all of this stress that you’re putting on it. I’ll go get you a glass of water and something to eat, but then you need to get some sleep. You won’t be able to function much longer if you don’t properly care for yourself.”
Camus’ eyes narrow the second that you step through the door. Not only had you ignored him for a week, but you were ignoring yourself as well. He’d approach you, his posture stiff and his expression cold. “And just what do you think you’re doing?” His voice is just as cold as his expression. “What are you trying to accomplish? I’m assuming your total disregard for your own well being is from your work. If you can’t manage to balance both, then you won’t do both.” His tone is serious and commanding. “If I need to force you to stay home to care for yourself, I’m fully prepared to do that. There’s no point in working if you’re just going to work yourself to death. But for now, I expect you to go sit down. I’ll bring you something to eat, and then you’re headed straight to bed.” He pauses for a second, still standing in your way, before he sighs. “I’m saying this because I care, and because I refuse to sit to the side and watch you destroy yourself. I do hope you understand.”
Hi Shelly! I'm sorry you're feeling blue! I was going to ask that about Taka and Hiro, too, but was worried I'd get too upset but since someone else asked anyway...It just kind of made me wince with hurt for Hiro when a few years ago Taka ranted on instagram about privacy (for his own life, not about his family). Like, where was your voice when your own fans were BULLYING your baby brother or when they posted on a forum after the ONE time Tomohiro finally showed his face, they asked if he was...
[2/3] Adopted! He already had issues being on camera (hasnt been on since, cant blame him). So, Hiroki looks too much like Taka but Tomo doesn’t look enough? They’re his little brothers, I think bullying BOTH Little brothers is when the time to speak up is. I’m not saying the bros cant handle themselves but I just feel Hiro, aside from mfs, has been on his own. It would be nice if his eldest brother took responsibility for his so called “fans” who attack his family and stood up…
[3/3] Sorry it just hits close to home. I know what it’s like 2 not have your older bro there when u need him most. When he leaves u in a house burning with hatred (i got to hear my parents accuse each other of cheating while my bro was out smoking & drinking. It makes me wonder what Hiroki heard when no one thought he was listening). I dont mean to take it personally or anything, I just feel like Hiroki & I are very similar. It’s why I like mfs. I’m sorry, I just have no one else to talk about it to.
−−−−−−−−−−−−−− −−−−−−−−−−−−−−
Hi 😊. I combined your messages together into one for easier reading
First of all I’m sorry for the pain that you personally had to go through. I hope you’re doing okay 🤗. At the same time though, I see uniqueness besides similarities in everybody’s situation.
1. Someone who is broken can’t be a crutch for someone else
In a traditional family setup in many cultures, even more prominent in Asian cultures, the eldest child is always the one assumed to carry responsibilities of looking after the younger ones. In a family crisis situation, while the younger ones theoretically have the one they can turn to, the eldest child has nobody and is usually left to fend for himself and everybody else.
Some elder kids have the inner strength and maturity to carry it at young age but some really struggle with it and only develop at a later age. Your brother and Taka seem to be in the latter category. Like Taka, your brother walked out because he was hurting and that was the shortcut way he knew how to surpress it and to stay away from what was troubling him at home. He couldn’t be your pillar when he was broken himself. Just like Taka who took the quick way out and his story had been well documented.
Also, a lot of times, someone who feels worthless doesn’t understand why anyone would feel hurt to see him walk away. I’m sure Taka himself only fully began to understand NOW, as an adult, the hurt he caused Hiro when he walked away back then. In his mind, he was a loser. Not doing well in school, stressed out over the parents’ marriage breaking up, not getting along with their father, very unhappy and not knowing where his future was heading. Certainly not someone for little Hiro to look up to. How would he look after Hiro when he could barely take care of himself?
* The Moriuchi brothers in those days when they used to be around each other a lot, before OOR moved out of Japan 😊
2. Some people need to pull themselves together first before they can love others
That dark period in Taka’s life was not something he’s proud of. He acknowledges it in interviews and his lyrics. Even OOR members admitted that Taka wasn’t exactly a pleasant person to deal with when they first found him. But once he got his life on track, things fell into places. He made amend with his father and got back the Moriuchi name. While Taka couldn’t give back the years with him that Hiro lost, he let Hiro hang around his friends and be a part of his life back in that way.
Even Hiro never denied the perks of being Taka’s brother. The most significant was when one of Taka’s close friends K from Pay Money To My Pain befriended Hiro and how that friendship led to the formation of MY FIRST STORY.
Think again, would Kei Goto a.k.a the late K simply befriend a random underaged high school kid just like that? I highly doubt it 🤔. Hiroki Moriuchi was NOT some random high school kid. K and Taka were buddies and Hiro the high school kid was Taka’s little brother. I doubt Taka would let his little brother hang around someone he didn’t trust. He knew Hiro was in good hands. All these happened only after Taka got his life back on track and was able to be the big brother figure he was meant to be for Hiro.
3. Taka publicly standing up for Hiro would be bad for Hiro’s image
Yes, it would be counter-productive for Taka to do so. You see, the ROOT of the hate and cyber-bullying towards Hiro stemmed from how easy things happened for him because of his family connection. If Taka had spoken out, it would make Hiro appear weak and ultra-dependant on his big brother.
“Duh! Not only he got a band because he’s Taka brother. Now, he needs to be protected like a baby!”
Hmm … does that sound good to you? We also need to see things from the haters’ perspective too, you know. Oh, with Papa being a multi-millionaire? Trust me. Hiro would get even less respect if any of his family members had spoken out for him. The bullying might get even worse.
As for Tomo, anything his family members say would bring unnecessary attention to him. He appeared on TV that one time because of his job at the station. Otherwise, he’s very private. It’s unfair on him if his famous family gives more reasons for the public to scrutinize his life when that’s the last thing he wants.
4. Being seen publicly as a brave independent fighter would be far more beneficial for Hiro
It worked well for Taka. He only started displaying his bonds with his parents AFTER he had firmly made a name for himself even though they had been on good terms since the early days of OOR. Likewise, Hiro would be less relatable to many fans if he is constantly being taken care of by his more famous and successful family members. Isn’t that the public perception Hiro is still trying hard to break away from?
Not just the Moriuchi, I have never seen being publicly defended by family members work well for ANY celebrity in the world. It may work for ordinary folks but things work differently for famous people.
I do support Hiro but I think even his most ardent supporters would agree that he somewhat gives off these “baby” vibes. MFS members themselves seem protective towards him. They let him be mischievious, loud and boisterous with them but they’re always there to hug him when he cries. Therefore, independence from his family would balance that out nicely.
5. Taka made a conscious choice to speak only for himself because he knew any reaction to it would be directed to him and ONLY him
As opposed to Taka speaking out for any of his family members, whom the public might hurl the hate and negative reaction to instead.
Things just work differently for celebrities. In a way, to minimize the bullying towards their loved ones, staying out of their public battle a lot of times is the better way to go. By not bringing more attention to it.
Likewise, none of Taka’s family members said anything when Taka had to face a barrage of criticism and angry reactions at the time. The ones who publicly defended him were his friends and peers. Guys like Mah (SiM) and Masato (Coldrain) among some. For celebrities, somehow testimonies from people they have worked with or even strangers they have encountered hold much higher values than family members.
With their chosen careers, backlash and criticism come with the territory. That’s what their parents want to instill in the two brothers. “You have chosen this path. Learn to deal with it.“
6. Rude fans are rude fans nonetheless
Rude people don’t suddenly become angels just because their idols ask them to. Just look at the backlash against Taka. It was quite brutal. Just like how Hiro got pictures of a woman pooping by his haters, I saw a photo of a “hairy ding dong” for Taka among some, along with truckloads of really scathing words. By his own fans (or should I say “ex-fans"?). If this kind of fans are willing to treat Taka like that just from ONE social media post, then nothing good can come out of it if Taka had said or done anything about Hiro’s haters. The ones who would cheer him would still be the same ones who already support MFS anyway.
Remember when fans were speculating that OOR’s song Right By Your Side as being dedicated to Hiro? Those who like MFS thought it was a sweet gesture but those who don’t like MFS used it as an excuse to say, “Look! Taka wrote a song for Hiro. Yet he still wants to call Taka his rival. What a low life!”. Yes, I’ve personally seen comments like that. So, see? Whatever Taka does regarding Hiro, mean-spirited people will still find a way to set fire to it.
7. There must be more than meets the eye
Fans went nuts when the brothers wore this pair of pants. I doubt it’s a coincidence that Hiro suddenly is comfortable wearing Taka’s look when he used to be sensitive about being called Taka’s copy before.
But that’s not even something new. in January 2018, Taka posted a photo of himself wearing this Monster’s Inc hoodie at Disneyland. That same month, Hiro was wearing that same Disney hoodie at his 24th birthday party.
Heaven knows what Taka had said to Hiro in private especially after MFS Budokan show 🤔. At the end of the day, they are family and though I also know many families who cut ties from each other, Taka and Hiro clearly are the ones who keep theirs 😉.
2 more cents
I feel that Taka is doing the right thing by staying away from Hiro publicly. Not responding to the negativity surrounding Hiro but still letting fans know that his little brother has his full support.
Hijirikawa Masato – The Hatter
Kurosaki Ranmaru – Cheshire Cat
Camus – Albert Liddell
Jinguji Ren - March Hare
Aijima Cecil - Dormouse
Under the cut as usual, enjoy~
[UtaPri Shining Masterpiece Show - Lost Alice Drama Track 1]
LOST ALICE - Act 1
ALL: “Lost Alice”
WHITE RABBIT: Are you Alice? A beloved child.
THE HATTER: Who is Alice? An unloved child.
CHESHIRE CAT: Who’s to say who is Alice or who isn’t Alice?
WHITE RABBIT: Welcome to Wonderland! A never-ending paradise.
CHESHIRE CAT: Goodbye, oh normal world. A paradise about to meet its end.
THE HATTER: Fall! Slowly and slowly…
THE HATTER: Deeper and deeper…
CHESHIRE CAT: Now, let’s open the door to a new beginning.
THE HATTER: Climb! Gently and lightly…
THE HATTER: Higher and higher until you reach heaven…
WHITE RABBIT: Now, ring the bell of the beginning.
CHESHIRE CAT: Is this a dream?
WHITE RABBIT: Or is it reality?
THE HATTER: Lies and truth.
CHESHIRE CAT: They go hand in hand.
THE HATTER: To part with something or to acquire something.
WHITE RABBIT: What we gain and what we lose is…
***
WHITE RABBIT: It was a fine May morning, surrounded by beautiful greenery.
WHITE RABBIT: What a magnificent sight it truly is.
WHITE RABBIT: It was a fun and exciting picnic where the sunlight shines on, the forest is brilliant, and you can hear the laughter of various people.
WHITE RABBIT: Yes. All but one was having fun…
ALBERT: Charles! Stop reading fairy tales in such a secluded place. Go and greet everybody.
ALBERT: After that is the tea party.
CHARLES: Why don’t you just go and do it, Big Brother Albert?
CHARLES: Why do I have to do something I don’t want to?
CHARLES: Honestly, I find these creepy tea parties very unnecessary!
CHARLES: Reading your boring books is even better.
ALBERT: Would you desist already? This is an age old tradition after all.
ALBERT: You are of age already. You have to be aware of your surroundings more now.
ALBERT: Good grief. It’s bothersome that you’ve only grown taller but not more mature.
ALBERT: Today is a very important custom for the Liddell Family. I can’t just let you do what you want.
ALBERT: It’s a picnic to deepen our relations with our friends and families.
CHARLES: There’s no one here who really wants to see me.
CHARLES: I’m sure they’ll only be talking gossip as they always do while drinking tea.
CHARLES: I’m very different from you, Big Brother. I’m an unloved child.
CHARLES: All I need is you.
ALBERT: Will you stop already?! It’s because you act like that that they think you’re unusual!
CHARLES: …! That’s right I’m unusual! I’m not perfect like you, Big Brother!
CHARLES: Please, just leave me alone! (Charles starts to walk away)
ALBERT: Wait a minute, Charles! The forest is—
CHARLES: I hate you, Big Brother!
CHARLES: Ah…!
ALBERT: Watch out!
(Charles falls down the rabbit hole)
ALBERT: CHARLES!!
***
(Charles wakes up after the long fall)
CHARLES: … Wh-where is this…?
CHARLES: I fell down a hole and then…
CHARLES: …! I can’t remember…
CHARLES: It’s completely dark. Where’s everyone? Big Brother?
CHARLES: Is no one here?
(Charles hears White Rabbit running)
WHITE RABBIT: This is bad, very bad! I won’t make it, I won’t!
WHITE RABBIT: I need this and that! If I don’t prepare them, I’ll be in trouble!
CHARLES: What’s wrong…?
WHITE RABBIT: Uwah--! Wh-who are you?! (White Rabbit suddenly stops running and runs into Charles)
WHITE RABBIT: O-ow…! Oh my, if it isn’t Alice!
WHITE RABBIT: What are you doing in a place like this?
CHARLES: Alice? My name’s not Alice. My name is Charles Liddell.
WHITE RABBIT: What are you saying? You are Alice! What should I call you aside from Alice?
WHITE RABBIT: You came from the world above, didn’t you?
CHARLES: That’s true… I don’t know what this place is. I don’t belong here.
WHITE RABBIT: Then, you really are Alice~! That’s what you’re called here.
WHITE RABBIT: My name’s White Rabbit. Nice to meet you, my friend~
CHARLES: Eh…?
WHITE RABBIT: Anyway, Alice, this is bad! We can’t just stand around here. Time waits for no one, see?
WHITE RABBIT: (he takes out a watch) I was just in the middle of turning back the hands on this clock.
WHITE RABBIT: But… This clock is broken and won’t do as I say.
WHITE RABBIT: (he turns the hands again) See? Just like this!
WHITE RABBIT: I keep turning them and turning them but… it’s a futile effort.
CHARLES: Why are you in such a hurry? What’s going on?
WHITE RABBIT: What do you mean ‘what’?! It’s a big a problem, really, a big one! Time is of the essence!
WHITE RABBIT: Time is money, you know? No, wait, it’s even more important than money.
WHITE RABBIT: It can’t be bought with money and it disappears before we know it. It is a thing to which we lose our precious things!
WHITE RABBIT: (with a sudden change of tone) It’s too late once you fail. Once you’ve lost it, life won’t give you the chance to fix it.
WHITE RABBIT: I…
WHITE RABBIT: I’ve failed many times so I know it well…
CHARLES: Then, what should we do?
WHITE RABBIT: That’s why I’m hurrying so it won’t happen again! Just like this…!
WHITE RABBIT: Even if… it’s futile…
WHITE RABBIT: It’s better to regret its results than regret doing nothing.
WHITE RABBIT: You can’t get used to the feeling of losing something no matter how many times it has happened.
WHITE RABBIT: But… not knowing what’s going to happen next is destiny.
WHITE RABBIT: And yet, once it actually happens we’re not prepared for it! We can just accept it.
WHITE RABBIT: Even when we try our hardest, there are times when we just can’t do anything!
WHITE RABBIT: That, too, is… fate…
WHITE RABBIT: But, there’s something I have to do. It’s my duty, you see?
WHITE RABBIT: See ya. I have to get going soon.
CHARLES: Wait! Where are you going?
CHARLES: I want to know the way home. This place is strange and cold… And it’s scary…
WHITE RABBIT: (in a serious and foreboding tone) There’s no way out. You just have to move forward.
WHITE RABBIT: (in his usual cheery tone) By the by~ You’re interested in where I’m going so are you going to help me~?
CHARLES: No, I just want to—
WHITE RABBIT: Thank you, Alice! I really need your help!
WHITE RABBIT: Wait, no. It can’t get started without you there! Definitely be there, okay!? (White Rabbit runs off)
CHARLES: Ah… Wait a minute, Mr. White Rabbit! Hey, please wait! (Charles starts running after him)
***
CHARLES: (sighs) I lost sight of Mr. White Rabbit…
CHARLES: I’m the one who needs some help.
CHARLES: Geez… I don’t even know where I am.
CHARLES: Tch. What’s really going on?!
CHARLES: (trips on a bush) Uwah! O-ow… What’s with this bush!? I’m really down on my luck today…
FLOWER A: (laughs) What a pathetic Alice. Tripping on a rock and rolling down. Serves you right~
CHARLES: (gasps) The flower spoke!
FLOWER B: Who decided that flowers can’t talk~?
FLOWER B: As if we’d keep quiet about something as interesting as this!
FLOWER A: More importantly, this time’s Alice is a little dunce, huh?
FLOWER C: Yes~ Plus, he’s very self-centred.
FLOWER C: Even though he just tripped on his own, he blames it on other people and he’s very irritated~
FLOWER D: (giggles) Yoo-ho~ We’re not really people though~ We’re flowers.
FLOWER A: This is my first time seeing an Alice like this. The ones before were elegant and friendly.
FLOWER A: Really, he’s such an unusual Alice~
CHARLES: Shut up! What would you know about me?
FLOWER D: He’s so harsh with words, too, oh my~
FLOWER D: Looks like he doesn’t have manners, nya~
FLOWER C: Uwoohhh~ Oh, so scary~ He’s so quick to yell.
FLOWER B: He’s got no good points, huh~
FLOWER D: So true~
FLOWER C: Such a pitiful one.
FLOWER and B: (laughs)
CHARLES: …! (he runs away)
CHARLES: It’s always like this…
CHARLES: No matter where I go… There’s no one who understands me!
CATERPILLAR: (turning pages) Volume 6… “The Origins of the Forest”… About 100 pages…
CATERPILLAR: This substance is Thee up of carbonated water and calcium as the main ingredients… I’m sure it’ll react well with sweetened water.
CATERPILLAR: A doline is a hole on the earth’s surface… I see.
CATERPILLAR: Page 64 of the tax structures…
CATERPILLAR: Inheritance is a fortune that’s divided and changed depending on the amount of people who’ll receive it… I see…
CATERPILLAR: Then there’s… page 81 of the analysis on the mind…
CATERPILLAR: The unconsciousness of a person compared to the consciousness is…
CHARLES: Um… Isn’t it difficult to read more than one book at once?
CHARLES: I’m pretty sure it’ll be easier to read and understand one at a time…
CATERPILLAR: That may be the case for you but it’s not for me.
CATERPILLAR: This is further proved that I can still hear and understand you perfectly at the same time. Worry not.
CATERPILLAR: “There’s no one who understands me!” There was so much displeasure in that sentence.
CATERPILLAR: (closes his book) However, there is no need to be so down, Alice.
CATERPILLAR: A person finds it hard to understand himself so you shouldn’t be bothered about not being understood by others.
CHARLES: …! Then what about you?
CATERPILLAR: It is in me not understanding myself that I can understand more.
CATERPILLAR: Unlike you, see?
CATERPILLAR: I am but a mere caterpillar. Nothing more, nothing less.
CATERPILLAR: But, it is quite humorous to see you irritated about others not understanding you when you don’t understand yourself.
CHARLES: I don’t… want to understand myself either.
CATERPILLAR: You recognize that and yet you’re unable to understand others.
CATERPILLAR: Well, I guess that’s just about what you’re capable of.
CATERPILLAR: (laughs) ‘Read a book one at a time,’ you say?
CATERPILLAR: I didn’t think that you’d suggest that to a reader.
CATERPILLAR: Do you think that books have more value than yourself?
CHARLES: I mean… Books are more important than people, aren’t they?
CATERPILLAR: You’re quite the selfish one.
CATERPILLAR: You think only of yourself and not consider what others are thinking.
CATERPILLAR: That is… simply your logic.
CATERPILLAR: More so—
CHARLES: Enough, please! I don’t want to hear any more.
CHARLES: You’re nagging too much like Big Brother does!
CATERPILLAR: Let’s see here… That person is…
CATERPILLAR: Is he really a bad person? Or is he only bad in your perception?
CATERPILLAR: Moreover, listen until a person finis—
CHARLES: That’s not true! I’ve heard enough. Please excuse me.
***
CHARLES: This place is really full of weird people!
(cat bell rings)
CHESHIRE CAT: (chuckles) I wonder what they mean by ‘unusual’~
CHESHIRE CAT: Answering what’s unusual or not is difficult, huh~
CHESHIRE CAT: Anyway, is that something that you can say?
CHARLES: Who--!? There’s no one here… Even though there’s a voice…
CHESHIRE CAT: I wonder~ Who am I, really~?
CHESHIRE CAT: ‘I am someone, and I am not.’
CHESHIRE CAT: The only one who can decide that is you.
CHESHIRE CAT: The question ‘Who am I?’ is not really that difficult~
CHESHIRE CAT: When I am not here then I am not.
CHESHIRE CAT: When I am here, then I am here.
CHESHIRE CAT: Such as when there’s a front, there’s a behind.
CHESHIRE CAT: I’m that much of a contradictory existence.
CHESHIRE CAT: The others call me Cheshire Cat.
CHESHIRE CAT: (laughs) Do you hate strange people, boy?
CHARLES: (deep breath) Yes. I’ve only been troubled the moment I arrived here!
CHARLES: The guy I asked for the way home won’t tell me and he hurried off.
CHARLES: Some flowers just kept on making fun of me even though they knew nothing about me…!
CHARLES: I’m this troubled and yet no one will help me!
CHESHIRE CAT: Is that so, is that so? You’re troubled, huh~
CHESHIRE CAT: You said you wanted to go home?
CHESHIRE CAT: Unfortunately, no one here’s really an ally or an enemy.
CHESHIRE CAT: It’d be best to keep that in mind.
CHESHIRE CAT: Hm~ You reeeeaaally don’t know anything, do you?
CHESHIRE CAT: You’re as sweet as can be.
CHESHIRE CAT: But that doesn’t mean that you can just be protected by anyone anywhere.
CHESHIRE CAT: You are free here. There’s no right or wrong. You’re free to live the way you want to~
CHESHIRE CAT: That’s right, freely~
CHESHIRE CAT: You don’t dislike that right, boy? Being free.
CHESHIRE CAT: And yet, you’re so displeasured.
CHESHIRE CAT: ‘Alice is really unusual,’ was it~?
CHESHIRE CAT: (laughs in a taunting kind of way)
CHARLES: You speak as if you know everything.
CHESHIRE CAT: Well, not everything~
CHESHIRE CAT: What I know is the same as what you do.
CHESHIRE CAT: In other words, as long as you know it then I will, too~
CHESHIRE CAT: Hey, Alice.
CHESHIRE CAT: Do you really want to go home?
CHARLES: … O-of course I do!
CHESHIRE CAT: Heh~ ‘of course,’ huh?
CHESHIRE CAT: Then, I think you should go that way~
CHESHIRE CAT: I’m sure there’s some delicious food over there. You’re hungry aren’t you, boy~?
CHESHIRE CAT: Eat your fill first.
CHARLES: I’m not hungry!
CHESHIRE CAT: No~ You are.
(Charles’ stomach grumbles)
CHARLES: …!
CHESHIRE CAT: See? (laughs) You’re not gonna be late going home anyway.
CHESHIRE CAT: I’m pretty sure you’ll find what you need there, Alice~
THE HATTER: Cheers to the tea party where anything goes!
MARCH HARE: Cheers~! The Hatter really knows how to throw a party! Let’s all let our hearts out and enjoy this to the fullest~
(glass breaks)
THE HATTER: (laughs) Goodness, this cake is marvellous! It flies so well with the cup.
DORMOUSE: (nervously) A-ah… that cup is… the thirteenth cup you’ve broken…
DORMOUSE: Uwah…! So wasteful… Why did you do that…? It’s the end of the world…
THE HATTER: Oh, Dormouse! Let us enjoy no matter what happens!
THE HATTER: Also, it is because we’ve already broken so many that we need not be aware of what we throw next!
THE HATTER: Plus, everything that holds shape will be broken someday.
MARCH HARE: I wouldn’t dare think that even a stylish cup like this could be broken.
MARCH HARE: This might be an omen for something good~! Woah, this is the best!
THE HATTER: Exactly! If you keep in mind that we can buy new cups then, see, what do you think~?
THE HATTER: The fun will increase!
DORMOUSE: That… may be… Yeah, that’s right!
DORMOUSE: Then let me break my remaining cups, too. Cheers~
(laughter erupts from the trio)
CHARLES: (quietly) Amazing…! They’re doing toasts using tea cups. If I did that at a normal tea party, Big Brother will surely scold me.
(Charles steps on a twig)
THE HATTER: Oh my, this is…! (he claps his hands) March Hare, Dormouse, we have a guest~
THE HATTER: Young Master, your hand please. (he grabs Charles’ hand)
THE HATTER: Now, over here please.
CHARLES: A-ah, please wait a minute... U-um… I’m looking for the way home and—
THE HATTER: Let’s leave the talk for later. Have a seat first.
THE HATTER: Now, this should be fine. Everyone, please greet Young Master Alice.
MARCH HARE: Welcome, Alice~ Cute guests are always welcome! I am now a very happy March Hare~
MARCH HARE: (giggles) You’re very lucky to have met me, Alice~
CHARLES: N-nice to meet you… You’re quite energetic, aren’t you?
THE HATTER: The March Hare is truly a strange one so we have no idea what he’ll do next! He is unpredictable~
THE HATTER: You might get eaten if you come too close to him.
MARCH HARE: Hey, hey, Hatter, that’s too much of a compliment~ Flattery will get you nowhere, you know~?
THE HATTER: (laughs) It’s your turn next! Come on, now’s not the time to be sleeping.
THE HATTER: Please pour some tea for Alice.
DORMOUSE: (yawns) Sure… I am… always sleepy so I’m a Dormouse…
DORMOUSE: The tea that I’d recommend is… (sleepily) the Darjeeling from… this pot…
DORMOUSE: It’s the best—(yawns) tea there is… (snores)
(the tea cups and stuff clatter as Dormouse falls asleep on the table)
CHARLES: Ah, this is bad…!
THE HATTER: It is fine! It’s a normal thing that happens in this tea party.
THE HATTER: It’s a small matter to be angry over. Moreover, he’s participating even though he’s sleeping so it’s fine~
DORMOUSE: (sleep talking) Please continue…
CHARLES: Ah… It’s true…! This is my first time in a tea party like this!
CHARLES: It’s refreshing and very fun, isn’t it?
THE HATTER: Thank you, Young Master! The Darjeeling pot has been ruined so let’s drink some other tea.
THE HATTER: What pastry would you like to eat?
MARCH HARE: Oh yeah~ How about the usual cookie. That special one that you always keep in your hat, Hatter~
THE HATTER: That is a NICE idea! (he takes off his hat to give some cookies) This is what ‘taking your hat off to someone’ really means~
THE HATTER: This is what I call the Hatter hospitality. Would you like one, Young Master?
CHARLES: Woah, they look delicious! Such cute hat-shaped cookies. Thank you!
(alarm rings)
THE HATTER: Oh, no, you can’t! (he snatches the cookie away from Charles)
CHARLES: What are you doing? You said I could eat it a while ago! Didn’t you give that to me?
THE HATTER: It is a law that the tea party should take a break once in a while.
THE HATTER: This alarm is the signal for that break.
THE HATTER: Well, even though we say that, this alarm is broken so we don’t know when it will go off.
CHARLES: No way…! Isn’t it a weird rule for a tea party to require a break at all?
CHARLES: There’s no way that it’s a law, is there?
MARCH HARE: Even if you tell us that, it’s a decided thing. We were told to strictly obey it.
THE HATTER: It’s unnecessary but at the same time it is. This world is just like that.
DORMOUSE: (sleep-talking) You’re quite the… unusual one, huh… Alice… (snores)
THE HATTER: (laughs) You say such interesting things, Young Master. Really, very wonderful.
(Charles slams his hand on the table)
CHARLES: It’s not interesting at all! (the tea sets clatter)
DORMOUSE: (snaps awake and panics) That way of speaking…! Did the King of Hearts suddenly appear?!
CHARLES: No, I’m not the King.
THE HATTER: Then, are you close to the King?
THE HATTER: Please forgive us…! We’ll do this properly. We’ll make it interesting like you wish!
THE HATTER: Please… Smile more…
THE HATTER: We beg of you… Please spare our lives…!
CHARLES: Um… I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you this much.
CHARLES: Please raise your head, Mr. Hatter.
MARCH HARE: Alice, that’s the one thing you shouldn’t say to the Hatter.
MARCH HARE: That it’s not interesting, I mean.
MARCH HARE: Those words are taboo.
DORMOUSE: His life’s… riding on it, you see…?
DORMOUSE: The King’s orders are… absolute.
THE HATTER: One day, we were just doing a tea party like we usually do.
THE HATTER: It was nothing big, really. Very peaceful it was, yes.
THE HATTER: However, we were happily content with it.
THE HATTER: Reuniting with our friends, talking and laughing about random things while drinking delicious tea. It was your usual tea party.
THE HATTER: That’s when he suddenly appeared! The King of Hearts!
THE HATTER: “How uninteresting! What an uneventful tea party!” is what he told me.
THE HATTER: “Make it grander! Make it overflow with fun, don’t be afraid. Make this a perfect and free tea party!” he said.
THE HATTER: “If not… I will have your head…” is what he told me.
CHARLES: Unbelievable…!
THE HATTER: Ever since then, it feels as if our time has stopped.
THE HATTER: No matter how many times it happens, we just repeat the same time over again.
THE HATTER: This fun tea party bound by harsh time will continue on until the King tells us to stop.
DORMOUSE: It’s not like… we’re doing it because we want to…
MARCH HARE: We have no choice. There’s just no other way. We have to make it fun even if it’s boring. Or else we’ll lose our heads.
THE HATTER: Alice went all the way here and yet we disappointed him.
THE HATTER: I am such a failure of a Hatter. A big fool who can’t do anything…!
CHARLES: That’s not true! Mr. Hatter’s not useless. You have to treasure yourself more.
CHARLES: Thank you for inviting me, I had a lot of fun.
THE HATTER: Young Master Alice…
CHARLES: I understand how you feel, Mr. Hatter. I’m always being reproved by my Big Brother, too.
CHARLES: But, this is too strange. We have to tell the King of Hearts or e— (alarm rings)
THE HATTER: Break time is over! I’m full of energy again after Alice’s encouragement.
THE HATTER: Thank you! We’re already used to it so it’s okay.
THE HATTER: We don’t want to hurt your feelings. Now, let us resume the tea party!
THE HATTER: Now then, where should we begin?
MARCH HARE: From the part where we were eating sweets while toasting.
MARCH HARE: Then, next up is riddle time.
DORMOUSE: I’ll be careful not to fall asleep… (yawns)
THE HATTER: Now then, let us enjoy this! With smiles on our faces.
THE HATTER: That’s the rule after all~ It’s the only way our heads can stay with our bodies.
DORMOUSE: With a grin and… a fun attitude…
CHARLES: No way… That’s not fun at all! I’ll go to where the King is.
CHARLES: There’s no need for you to follow such absurd rules.
CHARLES: You can’t give up! If you really want to change then…
THE HATTER: Of course I would prefer having genuine fun from the bottom of my heart.
THE HATTER: I do but…
CHARLES: I don’t know how I’ll do it but… I’m sure there’s a way!
CHARLES: That’s why let’s have courage to move forward.
CHARLES: Come on, let’s go.
MARCH HARE: That’s totally impossible~ Plus, it’s troublesome. Isn’t this fine~
DORMOUSE: (yawns) I won’t get scolded if I just sleep here… (snores)
CHARLES: I get it, you’re right. I don’t know what will happen if I go unprepared.
CHARLES: It’s scary, huh… Sorry for forcing it on you.
THE HATTER: I will go.
CHARLES: …!
THE HATTER: I will believe in Alice. And then, I’ll try believing in myself, too.
THE HATTER: Let us go together!
DORMOUSE: (sleepily) Are you really going…?
MARCH HARE: Hatter! It won’t be my fault if something happens.
THE HATTER: I am aware! Moreover, I am quite curious about Alice.
THE HATTER: It seems like he’s looking for a way home so I will help him as well.
CHARLES: Mr. Hatter…
CHARLES: I don’t know what I can do but if I’m with you I feel like I can figure it out.
CHARLES: The way to move forward…
CHARLES: Now then, let’s go!
Guess the people have spoken!! Here’s part 2!!! And there will be some returning guests ;)
If you haven’t read part 1, click HERE
Let’s begin!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ever since Shining had lift the “no dating rule” (technically, he altered the rules, that anybody the idols wanted to be with would have to be approved by him), partners of the idols got to stay in the Master Course, as long as their boyfriend remained there. Even though QUARTET NIGHT had moved out and are currently living in a penthouse that Reiji owns (he insists on “team bonding”, which hasn’t been successful), the group of males sometimes stayed at the Master Course when their projects are a bit further away from their residence.
So for you, this meant that you could come and go from the Master Course as you pleased; plus that meant you can see the other idols as well.
It had been a few days since Ranmaru was taken to the hospital and you couldn’t help but feel guilty. Not once had you gone to visit him-while everyone else has-including Camus and that’s saying something right there. At the moment, you were lying down on a couch in the main common room, covering your eyes, trying to relax; you were trying to avoid going to the “QN Headquarters” (the name that Reiji called their residence); with how you were feeling, you really didn’t want to see anything that had to do with Ranmaru.
“Look who’s finally out of her room,” a voice said from behind the couch that you were currently lying on.
Removing your arm away from your eyes, you looked up and found Ren, sitting on the top of the couch, with his head looking at you over his shoulder. “Hi R-Ren,” you started, your voice a bit raspy.
“It’s good to see you out of your room for a change,” another voice said.
This time you got up into a sitting position and saw that, STARISH was gathered all around this main sitting area; Cecil was sitting in one of the arm chairs with Syo sitting on the opposite one; Otoya and Natsuki were sitting on the couch directly in front of you, and both Masato and Tokiya were leaning against the back of that sofa.
“W-was I taking up too much space?” you asked. “I’m sorry! I’ll move out of y-your way-”
“No, you’re fine, (L/N)-san,” Masato reassured.
“We just wanted to make sure you were okay, since no one has seen you these past few days.”
“I’m fine,” you started. “I r…really am. I’ve just been focusing all my time on my artwork.” You picked up the sketchbook in front of you to confirm your claim. “I just dozed off is all.”
“This is a common room, after all, (N/N)-chan,” Otoya said, “So you’re more than welcome do do whatever you’d like-”
“Not everything, Icchi,” Ren said, with a slight perverted grin.
You looked back at Ren confused, only to flinch when you saw a pillow hit him right in the face-courtesy of Masato.
“You’re disgusting, Jinguji,” Masato said. “You shouldn’t say things like that in front of a lady.”
“Anyway,” Tokiya piped up, “Have you heard anything from Kurosaki-san?”
You looked away from the group, guilt in your eyes. You really should’ve gone to visit him, but at the same time, you didn’t. While he never officially broke up with you, the words he spat at you still stung-even if the incident was days ago.
“I don’t blame you for not visiting him,” Syo said, grabbing your attention. “Based on what we were told, you didn’t deserve for him to talk to you like that.”
“I know but, I know that the reason he snapped at me was because he was sleep deprive-”
“That’s still no excuse-”
“Has he texted you or anything?” Cecil asked.
Grabbing your phone, you looked and saw that you had indeed missed a call from him. “Oh, h-he left a voicemail,” you stated, as you tapped on the voicemail button.
“Put it on speaker so we can hear what he has to say,” Natsuki started. “Maybe it’s something cute!!”
“Doubt it,”
“Stop being so negative, Ochibi-chan.”
The moment the sound of the rocker’s voice was heard, everyone quieted down.
“Oi, its me,” Ranmaru started, letting out a sigh, “Listen, we need to talk. Can you meet me at the park right next to the arena where they’re going to hold the Triple S at 6? Uh, thanks.” And with that, the voicemail ended.
Slowly putting the phone on your lap, you felt your heart sink at the fact that he “wants to talk”. From what you’ve read (and from what you’ve heard) those are the words that are going to lead to a break-up.
“I told you he’s cruel,” Syo said, only to have a pillow be thrown at him by Otoya.
“I don’t think you’re helping (N/N)-chan any, Syo,” Tokiya said, as everyone turned towards you; noticing the pale look on your face.
“I…I don’t think I w-want to go,” you whisper, “I don’t know w…what would happen; Syo’s right, h-he is unpredictable.” You could feel tears on the corner parts on your eyes, as your throat started to tighten. “W…who knows what h…he would do to me-”
“Now Ran-Ran might be blunt, but he’s not cruel.”
Everyone turned and saw Reiji and Ai there. “When did you get here, Rei-chan and Ai-senpai?”
“Just now,” Ai shrugged, “We were on our way to meet up with Camus to go to an interview-”
“You said we were going shopping because you wanted me to help you with your wardrobe!” Reiji exclaimed, a bit hurt. “You’re a liar, Ai-Ai.”
“I’m not a liar, you’re just too gullible. Besides, you wouldn’t go if I told you the real reason.”
Before Reiji could reply, a chorus of “don’t deny it,” came from STARISH.
“You guys are cruel,” he fake whined, only to regain his composure. “Back to Ran-Ran, he’s not a cruel person. Hard-headed? Yes. Stubborn? Thats a given. Blunt? Unreadable? That’s Ran-Ran.”
Ai walked over and sat down next to you. “You’ve been with him for a while now, (F/N)-san; you’re still with him, even though he is all those things that Reiji said and more. Why would you be afraid of him now?”
“Because the voicemail he left-”
“We know about the voicemail he left you,” Reiji said, “We were there when he sent it.”
“”While we don’t know what he plans on saying to you, or what’s going to happen, don’t worry too much about it.” Ai paused and using his thumb, he wiped away the tears that were about to fall. “Just go.”
“Thanks Ai-senpai,” you said, hugging the idol, before getting up and leaving, Reiji protesting about how you didn’t hug him, with Ren replying with “guess she has more respect for someone younger than her”.
“And (F/n)-san,” Ai said, causing you to pause in your tracks, “Just know that we’re here for you…and if anything bad happens,” Ai’s voice suddenly took a darker tone, “on behalf of Quartet Night, we will make sure that he regrets it.”
With a small smile and a giggle, you left through the doors and headed towards the park where you two were to meet.
Meanwhile, STARISH and Reiji just stared at the youngest idol in shock; never having heard his voice take that kind of tone.
“Damn, that was a scary threat-”
“It wasn’t a threat,” Ai said, getting up and walking towards Reiji, “It was a promise.” Grabbing Reiji by his upper arm, he dragged him off. “Now if you’ll excuse us, we have an interview to go to.”
“SAVE ME!!” Reiji whined, leaving everyone impressed that the shorter male could drag the oldest idol.
STARISH all looked at eachother.
“How the hell is he the oldest, yet acts like a kid?”
All of the males shrugged, unsure of the answer themselves.

Location: Park
Sitting on a bench, Ranmaru let out a sigh. He couldn’t believe that he actually allowed Reiji and Ai to listen to him leave the voicemail on your phone.
Those damn, nosey idiots, he thought to himself.
He looked at his phone, that was sitting on his lap, waiting for the screen to light up with a message from you, saying you were on your way. Yet, after hours of sending you the voicemail, there was no reply. Moving his phone, he rested his elbows on his legs, head in his hands.
Why hasn’t she replied? He asked himself.
Guess now you know how she felt when she was trying to reach you for those fews days that you went off the map.
Looking up, he once again, saw his “Anxiety Side” standing in front of him.
“You’re back again?” he asked, only to pause when he noticed Anxiety’s hands start to twitch. “Are you alright?”
Anxiety shrugged and sat next to him. I’m never truly gone ya know, he started, I’m apart of you so you can’t really get rid of me; and yes, I am just fine. Just as Ranmaru was about to reply, Anxiety got briefly distracted as a cat approached Ranmaru and rubbed up against him. So…you really ARE a cat magnet-
“Shut it,” Ranmaru growled, as Anxiety grinned a bit. “But honestly, I think I know why you’re here.” Ranmaru leaned down and scooped up the cat, placing it on his lap; the cat instantly started to rub up against him.
Well I would hope so-otherwise I’d be concerned about your intelligence.
Before Ranmaru could emit a response, he heard yet, another voice that sounded similar to his, from his right side. Turning to look at who he assumed was another part of his personality, he was indeed right. This version of him was wearing a black polo equipped with a dark crimson tie and black jeans. To complete that look, he had on a pair of glasses.
//I don’t think we need to worry about that, Anxiety,// this other Ranmaru said.
“And you are?”
//I’m your intellectual side// he started, //You can just call me Logic//
Ranmaru just stared at Logic, inwardly admiring how attractive he looked. “Damn, I might have to invest in some glasses,” he mumbled.
No you don’t, Anxiety said. Look, Ranmaru, I need you to please calm down; you being anxious is making me anxious.
//Isn’t that kinda ironic// Logic grinned, only to get a growl from Anxiety. //And this is why I’m here; to help both of you come up with logical outcomes to this…predicament that we’re in.//
“Okay then,” Ranmaru sighed, “What do you two have for me?”
//Scenario number 1,// Logic started, //She comes and listens to what you have to say. A possible reaction could be-//
She doesn’t listen to what he has to say and just ends it all together
Logic’s eyes narrowed at Anxiety’s response. //OR another outcome would be that she comes and listens to what you actually have to say-//
And then end it all together.
//Anxiety please, you’re not helping here.//
Anxiety stared at Logic, What part of ‘anxiety’ do you not comprehend? Its my job.
Ranmaru just sat there continuing to pet the cat in his lap while his two other sides argued.
//Option 2; she comes and listens to you and you explain…whatever it is that you wnated to explain and she listens….and she takes you back.//
Or option 3, she doesn’t come, goes to the ‘Quartet Night’ headquarters-which you guys have really gotta change that name btw- gathers all of her things and moves out, completely forgetting that you two were ever together.
Logic and Ranmaru were silent at Anxiety’s words.
Ranmaru could feel his heart sink in his chest; the thought of you actually leaving him.
FALSEHOOD! Creativity exclaimed, popping out of nowhere, startling the other three.
//I’m sorry but did you just use-//
Yes, yes i did, so suck it Creativity said, answering Logic’s question. (F/N) loves you; nothing could ever change that! I mean look at you-us, he started, gesturing towards the original Ranmaru, You’re handsome, athletically toned, great hair, stunning good looks-plus you have great hair.
“Are you supposed to be my creativity, or my narcissistic side?”
He’s both.
Before anyone else could add a comment, Ranmaru’s phone, that was next to him buzzed, indicating that he had a text message.
See? It’s from her! Creativity said, making a grand, ‘princely’ gesture, Her heart is calling out for you!! She’s coming here to rekindle your lo- Creativity paused when he saw Ranmaru’s eye narrow.
What was that you were saying there? About how her heart is calling out for him through-
Hush up, Anxiety! He pouted, Who’s it from anyway? By the looks of your face, it’s not her?
//One point for Gryffindor// Logic said sarcastically. //Who’s it from?//
“Reiji,” he replied, sliding his thumb to the right to unlock his phone so he can read the text.
Ran-Ran
I don’t know what you’re planning on doing, but just wanted to let you know that (N/N)-chan is on her way. We didn’t want you to be mopey. Also, fair warning, be care-dsjfghosdfiugnbsdfjoghsob
Ranmaru, its Ai. To basically sum up what he was saying, (F/N) is on her way over. Good Bye
Ranmaru and the others stared at the phone, all four wondering what the hell they just read.
//See? She is coming; so calm down anxiety//
Just because she’s coming, doesn’t mean that she’s not going to break up with us.
Before the original Ranmaru could utter a reply, all three of them suddenly vanished, leaving him confused. Looking straight ahead, he saw the familiar mop of you hair walking towards him. He could feel his heart flutter in both excitement and nervousness. As you got closer to him, he felt his anxiety start to kick into full gear
~~~~~~~~~~
Meanwhile, in Ranmaru’s mind
“Stop making him anxious, Anxiety!” Creativity exclaimed. “They haven’t even started talking!”
“I. Can’t. Help. It.” Anxiety growled, annunciating each word.
“Both of you, shut up!” Logic exclaimed. “Let’s see what happens.”
“$10 says she dumps us-”
“YOU’RE ON!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~
There was silence as you stood before him; both of you waiting for one another to initiate conversation.
“I-I’m glad you came,” he finally said, his throat a bit dry.
You nodded and looked away, not able to really make eye contact with him. “Can I join you?” you whispered, looking away in partial embarrassment.
Instead of a response, Ranmaru abruptly got up, the cat on his lap jumping and walking away, and with a gentle hold of your wrist, he started leading you down a path.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“What the hell are you thinking, Creativity!? A guy and girl going on a walk in a situation like this usually results in a break-up.”
“Relax Logic,” Creativity said, “I know what I’m doing.”
“You’re making Anxiety sick.”
Creativity looked over at Anxiety, who was currently holding a puke bucket to his face. “Not my problem.”
Anxiety replied by giving Creativity the finger, until he actually threw up.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“W-where are we going?” you asked, finally breaking the awkward silence . Before you could get an answer, Ranmaru had brought the two of you to a more secluded area of the park.
“The last thing I want is for someone to see this,” he mumbled to himself, not wanting you to hear him; unfortunately for him, you ended up hearing it.
Upon hearing this, you yanked your arm out of his grip. “Look,” you started. “If y-you’re just going to break up w-with me, just do it!” You raised your voice, completely startling the rocker; not once had he ever heard you yell like that-and quite frankly, neither had you. “Get it over w-with,” you concluded. “I get it! I don’t measure up to your qualifications!” By this point you were just furious with him; just letting out all of the anger you’ve had bottled up for so long. “I’m sorry that I’m not perfect for you, but I’ve put up w-with so much of your shit, Ranmaru,” you noticed how wide his eyes got when you said his name without stuttering, “and I’m tired of being treated as if I’m nothing to you!”
The one thing that you never wanted anyone to know about you is that, while you do have a stutter, the moment you get mad and all hell breaks loose, the stutter somehow goes away.
“I’m a fucking human being with emotions, Ranmaru, and you clearly don’t have any-”
You were cut off by being backed up into a tree; Ranmaru’s hands on either side of your head-a good gap between the two of you. Realization hit you; he had kabedoned you to a tree. You glared up at him.
“Are you done?” he asked, finally having the chance to speak. The moment you gave him a nod, he was about to talk but hesitated.
It’s now or never he thought.
Letting out a sigh, he relaxed his outstretched arm-to relieve some of the tension and looked at you. “I…I-”
“And now y-you’re mocking me?!” you howled, pushing against his chest to get him off, only for him to not budge.
“I’m not mocking you!” he exclaimed. “Look, I know I’m an asshole! I know I’m blunt, hot-headed-hell, I’m pretty much the exact opposite of you,” he started. “But I would never mock anyone with disabilities-”
“Are y-you saying that I’m disabled?!”
Fuck me-what the fuck am I doing?
“No! Look, I’m not good at this so please, understand,” he said, his tone softer.
You leaned further away-or as far back as you could-against the tree.
“I’m sorry,” he said, looking away. “I’m so sorry, for everything. I’m sorry for everything that i’ve said, for the amount of times I’ve ‘disappeared off the grid’ without a trace. I’m sorry for everything.” The usual harsh glint in his eyes vanished, and revealed a softer look; more sincere. “I’m sorry for not trusting you; I know most, if not everything about you, yet you know nothing about me, and that’s fair at all. And if you’re willing to listen, I will tell you.”
“R-Ranmaru,” you whispered, “I can tell that it makes y-you uncomfortable to talk about-”
“But you deserve to know!” he yelled, causing you to flinch a bit. “I’m new to all of this, alright?” he said. Bending one of his arms, he was leaning against the tree, using that arm to support him. “When I was at the hospital, I had a lot of time to think, and I realized that I’m stumbling, hard, in this relationship, however if there’s one thing that I know for a fact-” he paused and brought his free hand up to your face, slowly caressing it, “is that I found you; the only one-the only person who help me overcome some of the burdens of my past; and while I was too blind to see it, you rescued me with your love.”
YOu couldn’t help but just stare into his heterochromatic eyes, a mixture of worry, surprised and sympathy mixed in. “R-Ranmaru-”
“I realized that the reason I kept pushing you away, was because I was scared…..that I love you, (F/N).”
You couldn’t believe your ears; the cold, rocker from Quartet Night dropped the “L’ word.
“I love you so much,” he started, stroking the upper part of your cheek with his thumb, “And I hope-no, I don’t want you to stop loving me.”
You brought one of your hands up, gently placing it over the one on your cheek, and gave it a gentle squeeze. “I don’t think I could, even if I w-wanted too.”
Hearing you say those words, he quickly brought his hand away from your face and brought you into a hug; startling you, to the point that you let out a giggle as you returned the hug, wrapping your own arms around him.
“I’m really glad I was able to meet you, (F/N)” he whispered, bring one of his hands to the back of your head, pulling you as close as possible to him, “From now on, for as long as we shall live, I’ll always be by your side.”
You felt single tears, trickle down your face, as you smiled.
“Y-You better be, after all of the shit y-you’ve put me through,” you said, ruining the moment.
“…way to kill it,” he chuckled, holding out his hand in front of you. “Let’s go,” he said with a smile. “I’m hungry.”
“Fine, but you’re cooking this time,” you said with a genuine laugh.
He looked at you with a chuckle and as you accepted his hand, the both of you started your journey back.
What the two of you never noticed were the two pairs of eyes, watching you from a distance.
“Aww! They made up,” Reiji said. “So it looks like he is finally out of the dog house.” Reiji looked over to his companion sitting next to him, who had a look of what appeared to be disappointment on his face. “What’s wrong Ai-Ai?”
“Don’t worry about it,” he said with a disappointing sigh, which Reiji caught onto.
“Were you hoping that things went bad between them?” he exclaimed.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Ai replied walking away from the older idol.
“…How prepared were you if this went horrible, Ai-Ai?” he said to no one, before he too, got up and went back.

BONUS
“See? You were anxious for nothing, Anxiety,” Logic said, patting him on the shoulder.
“Shut it,” he growled back. “This was a scenario that could’ve gone in either direction, Logic. We’re just lucky that it went the positive direction.” Anxiety paused in realization. “Shit, we were so preoccupied with this that we completely neglected the fact that we need a song by tomorrow! Where’s that annoying Creativity!?”
On cue, Creativity came walking in, humming and writing somethings down in a notebook. “Again, don’t be anxious, Anxiety,” he grinned, loving the fact that he can keep making these ironic comments. “This situation has inspired my creative juices.” He held out his book in front of them. “See? Already have some of the lyrics!”
Logic and Anxiety read the words on the page, smiles appearing on both of their faces.
🎵Let’s become like the bright road to the future!Leaving behind a lingering warmthWe’re connected together, my heartbeats songThis, I’ll send to you🎵
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wee! Part 2 done.
Now we met Ranmaru’s logical side. It was hard to distinguish the three since there’s no “underline” option on here; so I improvised.
There are some parts in here that are translated from one of his songs; kudos if you can find it.
The lyrics used at the end are from Ranmaru’s song “Bright Road”
It’s a bit rushed, but I really wanted to publish it ^^
Lemme know what you think guys!!
Until next time
Chapter 1
"Iwatodai.. The next stop is Iwatodai." A louder announcer said, over the train intercom.
"I guess this is my stop.." A red haired boy said as he stood up from his seat to get his duffle bag and his guitar case. Once the train had stopped, the doors opened. There weren't to many people around, considering it was almost midnight. The Red hair boy took his card pass and swiped on the machine and walked out of the train station. He looked at his phone, and noticed the time. "It's almost midnight.." He said to himself, as he continued to walk.
And just like that everything changed. The sky became green and unsettling, all the water turned to blood, normal everyday people turned to coffins and yet, the Red haired boy wasn't phased at all, he has been experiencing this for ten years. Everyday at midnight, this happens and he has always wonder why he was never affected by this transformation.
He continued to walk towards his designated spot, looking around and listening carefully for any signs of other humans. He didn't find nor hear any, feelings lonely in the world yet again. After a while of walking he noticed the building with lights on, he was mildly confused as looked at the side of the door and noticed the numbers '2001' and realized GE was at the right spot. "So.. This is where I'll be.." He said as he walks in.
He looks around the empty and fairly large room, that looks almost similar to a hotel, first floor, lounge. He started walking in more before he heard a voice at the counter to his right.
-Okay I gotta keep pharos and Ryoji in this AU for it to make since-
"Hello.. I've been waiting a long time.." Said a very young boy, in striped prison clothes. "I can't believe you made me wait.." The boy giggled. "W-What are you?? Where did you come from!?" The Red haired boy was confused and scared, only making the boy chuckle again. "Hold your questions for later.." He said. "If you like to proceed, please sign your name here.." He said, as a small red book opened on its own as the boy held open his hand beside it. The Red haired boy looked confused as he saw a pen beside the red book and picked it. "Don't worry.. All it says is that you'll take full responsibility for your actions.. You know.. The 'usual' stuff.." He said. The Red head signed his name without actually reading it.
'Ittoki Otoya'
The little boy chilled as Otoya gave him the red book.
"You can't cover your ears and close yours.." He said as he made the book disappear slowly. He was soon starting to engulf himself in the darkness in the room. "You can't cover your ears and close your eyes.." He said almost fully gone. "And so it begins..."
It was quiet for a few moments before footsteps were being heard.
"Who's there?" Said a males voice, he finally came into view. It was a male with spiky blonde hair, with red bobbie pins and a hat. "H-how can you move!? Are you one of them!?" He asked, panicking. Otoya noticed a gun holder around his waist as the blonde boy reached for the gun., He pulled it out and pointed it to his head.
"KURUSU WAIT!" The blonde boy stop and turned around to see another boy with neatly cut, blue hair and a mole under his eye.
"What..!?" He was confused as the lights came back on and he gasped.
"The lights are back on.." Said, the apparent, Kurusu.
"I didn't expect you to arrive so late." said the second boy, with blue hair. "My name is Hijirikawa Masato." He said, and and motioned over to the smaller boy beside him. "And this is Kurusu Syo." The blonde boy waved. "Hey.." He said, Syo looked like he was feeling guilty. Otoya smiled.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Ittoki Otoya.." Syo saw his kindness and smiled. "Yeah, nice to meet you too."
"Kurusu.. Show him to his room. It's on the second floor." Masato explains. Syo nods. "Please follow me." Syo spoke as he walks upstairs, and Otoya follows.
Syo leads him to the last room of the second floor hallway. "Here it is, your room. Should be easy enough since it's the last room of the entire hallway." Syo smiled and handed Otoya a key. "That's your room key, so if you loose it you'll never hear the end of it from Hijirikawa." Syo joked as Otoya laughs a bit. Syo suddenly got serious.
"Was everything 'okay' from your walk from the station?" He asked, a bit concerned. Otoya thought back and shook his head. "Really..?" Syo asked, astonished. "Well.. Do you have any questions for me?" Syo asked. "Does that little boy stay here?" Otoya asked, thinking the little boy was very creepy. "Huh..? What are you taking about?" Syo was confused. "Uh.. Never mind..!" Otoya panics a bit.
"W-well..! Goodnight!" Otoya said as he quickly ran into his new dorm room. Syo was mildly confused as he started walking now to find Masato.
One found he asked a very, concerning question that has been on his mind.
"Is it okay for him to be here?" Syo asked. Masato looks up at him. "He walked here, by himself in the dark hour. We'll just have to see he may be transported to a normal dorm." Masato explains as Syo looks down.
"Alright.. We'll just have to see." Syo said as both boys walked to their separate rooms.
Let’s Read & Suffer: Tsukumojuku by Maijō Ōtarō [part 19]
Today`s recap: In which Tsukumojuku finally enters the Illusionary Castle, reunites with a character that I honestly forgot existed, discovers a very convoluted serial killer puzzle, and then things once more get pretty damn meta. [tw: gore]
STORY 4 PART 3
After Tsukumojuku discovered her crime, Serika and Seshiru had to escape once more. They both looked very hurt, with Serika crying and saying that she didn’t want to get separated from Tsukumojuku again, even if she understood that he had his own life now, what with his marriage and kids. [No, I don’t know how he can get married at like 16 either.]
(Love was a memory kept by the whole body. Made in the brain, spread with the blood throughout one’s entire being, and would never cease. ...and the love he once held for Serika was nothing more but a distant memory, he realized.)
When the twins fled Chofu, they left two disembodied hands of a man in the hidden room. According to Serika, that man’s name was Okubo Kengo. Well, that's proof enough. Tsukumojuku returned Ryouko's hollowed-out body to the police, and said that the criminal was Seshiru, leaving out the truth about Serika. A lot of bodies were later pulled out of the river, among them Okubo Kengo.
Tsukumojuku got the 10 million yen prize, transferred half of it to the twins' bank account, bought the magazines for his mother-in-law, and returned home in time. Whew! The mother-in-law questioned why he only got half the money, and he couldn't thought of a reason other than “er, must have dropped it on the way here?”, but it seemed they believed him.
He then learned that since Yanbe Tetsuo, the Illusionary Castle's owner, was quite rich, a prize for solving the Castle case had been funded: 30 million yen, which was something they could definitely use.
–
That night Tsukumojuku read the Third Story. Apparently Okubo Kengo was a serial killer there. In reality... well, you could say a lot of killing was done by his hands. [*rimshot*] In the Third Story, Seiryoin Ryusui was trapped in the Castle... maybe that meant they’d meet tomorrow, once Tsukumojuku got through the underground waterway. (The Castle’s underground... wasn’t that where the monster Gajobun was supposed to live?...) Maybe him thinking about the flag of Gibraltar, showing a key under a castle, really did make sense after all. Did the cross and the crown mean something too?
When he went to the park next morning, there was still a lot of policemen in there, investigating the terrain around the hidden room. A journalist came up to him like “Oh, so you're that Great Detective Tsukumojuku”. Since Tsukumojuku was afraid Ms Suzuki or Tsutomu would learn from the media where he is, he made the journalist faint before he could get any material. The police warned him against more noisy reporters, and didn’t say anything as he entered a manhole, although they looked a bit confused as to why he was doing that. Tsukumojuku went some distance underground, turned on the flashlight he'd brought with him, and looked around.
The waterway was full of ghosts.
STORY 4 PART 4
Of course the waterway was full of ghosts, their faces twisted in sadness or anger; lots of people had died in the Castle. Maybe they were trying to look for their way back? As he walked forward, their numbers increased, until he had to practically squeeze between them to proceed. Finally, he found the place where all the souls were looking up at the same spot. A hole in the ceiling. It seemed no soul could pass through it: a lot of them were frozen in mid-air reaching for it, and Tsukumojuku used that fact to climb them like a makeshift ladder. [Sure.]
Once he climbed out, he noticed a rope ladder, that this “Seiryoin” had probably been using to exit the Castle. If he really was the culprit of the Geneijo case, and these souls were the victims, then it’s kinda weird they didn’t do anything to him.
Tsukumojuku wandered the Castle’s cramped passages for some time before hearing upset voices:
“...I don't knoooow! This makes no sense! Enough! Enough!” “Calm down, Abe.” “I'm serious! I want out of here, right now!” “Stop crying, it's annoying! There's no reason for it! We're fine! Your assistant should be able to do something...” “He’s not my assistant, he’s more like a little brother to me...”
Following the voices, Tsukumojuku opened the door to what looked like a giant chapel, with stone pillars and stained-glass windows. Above the altar, maybe 15m above the ground, a giant crucifix with a figure of Christ was suspended. There were about 20 men and women in the chapel, and one of them was someone very familiar to Tsukumojuku: Abe Atsushi, or Daibakusho Happy. (安倍敦, or 大爆笑ハッピ)
[If just like me you have already forgotten who the hell was that -- it’s that private tutor from the First Story who couldn’t teach for shit, constantly repeated the rakugo “Dowry”, and hanged out with little Tsutomu a lot.]
Tsukumojuku followed Abe’s horrified sight to see what this was all about. On the altar, there was a box with a woman's head inside. Her pale face had a red circle painted on the right cheek, and a blue circle on the left cheek. Her eyes were open, dark eyeliner and fake eyelashes applied. On the box’s inner side was written the name “Geneijo” in red, and the number “5” in blue. On the head's right side somebody had put a clown doll dressed in black.
Oh, and there were 42 other boxes.
Small or large, all rectangular, sometimes containing a head and sometimes half a body. All were decorated with colors, had some kind of toys inside, and were numbered.
Three boxes didn't have bodies: one was numbered “7″ (seventh column from the left) that happened to be next to another “7″. “5″ (tenth column) was empty too, and also had another “5″ as a neighbour. A “1″ (2nd column) also had another “1″ next to it, but instead of being empty, it contained a hand made of clay. So, a double box number would distinguish the empty ones?
The 43 boxes all symbolized individual covers of the 1975-1999 issues of Geneijo, a detective novel magazine. The empty boxes corresponded to '75 July Extra Issue (with Edogawa Ranpo on the cover), and '76 May Special Issue (with Yokomizo Seishi). The box with black clay hands was the '78 New Year Special Issue.
[The next four pages are Tsukumojuku’s drawings of the boxes -- don’t worry, you don’t actually have to pay any attention to these for the plot, but I’m putting them here just because.
Columns 1-2:
Columns 3-5:
Columns 6-8:
Columns 9-11:
–
Among them Tsukumojuku found Ryouko’s head, wrapped in pink scarf, with lips painted pink. (He hoped the white rose in the box would be, as stupid as it sounded, a bit of a comfort to her lost soul... though her soul was still stuck behind that bookshelf.)
He quickly understood the reason why the criminal had used 12 bodies from outside the Castle. During its first year being in circulation, the Geneijo magazine was published by a company called Geneisha, which eventually bankrupted. The magazine was from then on published by a new company called just Geneijo. So the first year issues, from February '75 to January '76, were “from outside Geneijo” -- from outside the Castle. And so were the victims.
- - -
Tsukumojuku approached the group of people, and told Abe that he was Tsutomu's older brother. Abe recognized him (“Oh, it’s you! You alright? How did you get here? Does Tsutomu know you’re here?”) Tsukumojuku told them about the waterway entrance, and everyone cheered, for some reason shouting “Kick-kick-kick, four-dimensional kick” in happiness. A tall man thanked Tsukumojuku for coming, said that everyone in the chapel was an entertainment group [as in actors] called the Angel Bunnies, and asked for his name.
“I’m the Great Detective Tsukumojuku.”
The cheering stopped abruptly.
"What the fuck?!” Abe yelled in tears. “That's already the third Great Detective Tsukumojuku! I don't understand anything! Is the world made out of Tsukumojukus?!”
The tall man tried to console Abe saying that it was all fine, they could leave now -- but Tsukumojuku quickly said that actually, they couldn't leave yet, since the criminal may be among them.
“But,” he said, “I can guarantee that the case will be solved in the next 30 minutes!” Just in time to get back home for lunch. “So please be patient and--”
“But that's exactly what the other Tsukumojuku sa-a-aid...!” Abe was completely hysterical, so Tsukumojuku asked everyone else to look away and took off the sunglasses. Now that the nuisance was temporarily gone (along with two other people too curious for their own good who also had looked his way), he put the glasses back on.
The tall man was like “oh shit, that really is the Great Detective Tsukumojuku, what's with the unnatural beauty and all”. Huh? So that other “Tsukumojuku” was just as beautiful as him?
- - -
The Angel Bunnies introduced themselves to Tsukumojuku. [You don’t have to remember these names at all, don’t worry.]
The name of the tall man was Fukushima Manabu (福島学). People who had fainted alongside Abe were Kawabe Keisuke (河辺恵介) and Nakai Sayaka (中井紗也香).
Other members, men: Kawai Kazuhiro (河合一洋), Hongou Takeshi (本郷雄士), Tanaka Masatsugu (田中正嗣), Kumono Takuya (雲野巧也), Hoshino Masato (星野真人), Aoyama Gen (青山元), Furutaka Masayuki (古高雅之).
Other members, women: Mizoroki Fumie (溝呂木文枝), Kajiwara Ayako (梶原亜矢子), Nomura Rie (野村りえ), Obata Aki (尾畑亜紀), Nonaka Mami (野中麻美), Yoshida Yukino (吉田由貴乃), Iwai Yumi (岩井ゆみ).
A total of 19 people. There were 20 of them once, but unfortunately Higashimoto Mika (東元美佳) was currently stuffed in the box symbolizing the November '76 issue of Geneijo.
As for what they were doing there: apparently Tsutomu (now Great Detective Daibakusho Curry) had been invited to the Castle party. He and Abe were a part of the Angel Bunnies, so when he got the invitation to the Castle, everyone went together with him to have some fun.
Needless to say, it wasn’t fun. Among other casualties, Seiryoin Ryusui vanished without a trace the very first day. Other weird shit was going on too. Apparently some actual JDC members had appeared out of nowhere: Ajiro Souji, Hikimiya Yuuya (氷姫宮幽弥), and the Detective God Tsukumo Juku himself. The rumor was that they had come to protest the publishing of Seiryoin's JDC books, and that Tsutomu / Daibakusho Curry was secretly cooperating with them.
Three JDC detectives... each with his own method of reasoning. Ajiro Souji would ponder the topic endlessly, Detective God would wait patiently and gather evidence that showed up with time, and Hikimiya was mostly there to write the data down. Apparently this now meant that Ajiro was worrying himself with Geneijo on a break from his usual telephone detective stuff. Detective God mostly closed himself in his room and napped [probably because why bother when the evidence hadn’t showed up yet?]. Hikimiya was running around and calculate many weird things like how many chairs and bed there was on the first floor (the same that the number of pages in Seiryoin’s Cosmic, apparently), the number of windows (99, like the number of chapters in Joker), and how much space the carpet took (the same as all the illustrations, table of contents etc. in Carnival.)
Hikimiya was now busy reading through the entirety of the library, counting how many times individual characters show up, or some weird specific shit like that. (...Tsutomu’s cooperation probably meant he was taking care of poor Hikimiya while he was working. Tsutomu was just the kind of person who’d want to take care of others.)
- - -
Since the Angel Bunnies had no idea what the hell the Geneijo magazine even was, Tsukumojuku explained.
Geneijo was called that after Edogawa Ranpo's famous essay. The same essay’s name was also given to the mysterious castle showing up in Seiryoin's book -- in these books, the Castle’s owner was even called Hirai Tarou, which happens to be Edogawa Ranpo's true name. In Joker, a serial killer called the Artist killed a whole lot of people in Geneijo, and the JDC detectives had to stop him... but of course, that was just a story. To make things even more meta, in the JDC books there actually appeared a character called “Seiryoin Ryusui” who was simultaneously writing the JDC books.
Just a story... But the JDC detectives had appeared in reality now, as the Angel Bunnies pointed out. But maybe they were just cosplayers, who would made up things using words and numbers -- anagrams, math puzzles, word plays and so on. If you kept doing this long enough, one thing would always lead to another. For example,let’s say we want to connect “words” and “numbers”. If you moved the voiced consonant in “kotoba” (word) from end to beginning you'd get “gotoha” which you can write down as “五とは” which has the number 5 in it, isn’t it just amazing?
Or that the word “suuji” (numbers, 数字) would also be read “suuji” when written as 崇辞, and if you now swapped the second kanji in that for same-reading 詞, you'd get 崇高な詞 (a sublime word?) which are 本物の言葉 (real words). Words within words. Words without unnecessary decorations. (余計な装飾のない言葉). Words by themselves, to sum it up.
[I’m equally confused by the word play onslaught, don’t worry.]
There were a whole lot of these word games, and obviously some common theme would always crop up if you banged one concept into the other hard enough. These puns and anagrams were the essence of the JDC series, so naturally, it wouldn’t be strange that these “hardcore JDC cosplayers” would also love them.
- - -
In an attempt to solve the mystery, Tsukumojuku then took Ryouko’s head out of her box and using a knife carefully cut off her face to make a mask, which caused the horrified Angel Bunnies to run away to the other side of the chapel because what the actual fuck, dude. Tsukumojuku put the makeshift mask on, and just like when putting on her skin, Ryouko’s memories instantly attacked his brain. They were so strong he fell on the floor in convulsions, and actually broke three ribs in the proccess. Too many memories, way too much information, too great of an impact, and then suddenly – the memory from just before death.
Chofu, near the river, late at night. Somebody trying to catch Ryouko – it's Serika, wearing Okubo's hands like gloves. Ryouko ran, but was caught and tackled to the ground. Serika sat on her chest, and yelled for someone to keep her legs down!”. A man with long black hair and glasses -- Seiryoin.
Mystery solved. In Geneijo, Seiryoin was God.
And as he took the mask off, that God’s “Angels” -- Ajiro, Hikimiya and JDC’s own Tsukumo Juku -- entered the chapel along with Tsutomu.
IMPRESSIONS:
*Maijo voice* how many layers of meta are you on? you’re like a little baby, watch this
Jesus, just how many tiny kanji can you fit on all these diagrams, Tsukumojuku? Good thing the details don’t really seem to matter in the grand scheme of things, at least as far as I’ve read, so I don’t have to translate this mess.
I love the scene with the ghosts. The soul ladder reminded me of the Kars ladder from Jorge Joestar, for some reason.
I don’t know if this is the intentional reading here, but I love the idea that the Detective God would just chill out in his room while shit is going on because he knows how mystery novels work and that the case’s not gonna get solved before the writer wills it. “Gonna take a nap, wake me up once the scared witness gets shot just before revealing the killer’s name.”
In the JDC series, Hikimiya Yuuya specializes in crime statistics and such, which requires him to always carry a laptop he can calculate data with. He loves quoting mystery novels whenever he can. While working as an assisstant to such great detectives like the Detective God or Ryuuguu Jounosuke, he has some complexes about his own power of reasoning. Not a very remarkable guy, at least on first sight.
