The Unwritten by Mike Carey (2010-2015)
Tom Taylor's life was screwed from go. His father created the Tommy Taylor fantasy series, boy-wizard novels with popularity on par with Harry Potter. The problem is Dad modeled the fictional epic so closely to Tom's real life that fans are constantly comparing him to his counterpart, turning him into the lamest variety of Z-level celebrity. In the final novel, it's even implied that the fictional Tommy will crossover into the real world, giving delusional fans more excuses to harass Tom.
When an enormous scandal reveals that Tom might really be a boy-wizard made flesh, Tom comes into contact with a very mysterious, very deadly group that's secretly kept tabs on him all his life. Now, to protect his own life and discover the truth behind his origins, Tom will travel the world, eventually finding himself at locations all featured on a very special map -- one kept by the deadly group that charts places throughout world history where fictions have impacted and tangibly shaped reality, those stories ranging from famous literary works to folktales to pop culture. And in the process of figuring out what it all means, Tom will find himself having to figure out a huge conspiracy mystery that spans the entirety of the history of fiction.

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman (2020-present)
It's the most-watched game show in the galaxy!
In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth--from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds to all the trucks and cars--collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground.
The buildings and all the people inside, they've all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot. A dungeon so enormous, it circles the entire globe.
Only a few dare venture inside. But once you're in, you can't get out. And what's worse, each level has a time limit. You have but days to find a staircase to the next level down, or it's game over. In this game, it's not about your strength or your dexterity. It's about your views and your followers. It's about building an audience and killing those goblins with style.
You can't just survive here. You gotta survive big.
You gotta fight with vigor, with excitement. You gotta make them stand up and cheer. And if you do have that "it" factor, you may just find yourself with a following. That's the only way to truly survive in this game, with the help of the loot boxes dropped upon you by the generous benefactors watching from across the galaxy.
They call it Dungeon Crawler World. But for Carl, it's anything but a game.

「 ✦ Hogwarts' Archon Pt. 1 ✦ 」 Headcannons
↳ Simple: You were brought into Hogwarts. Your origin is Teyvat yet somehow you were summoned into this...other world? Sheesh.
Tags:
──────⋆⋅☆⋅⋆──────
You didn't even know how you ended up here.
Just a week ago you were fighting off some high ranked fatui, though in midst of battle you were struct by one of them.
Within the week you took the time to figure out where the hell you were.
No longer were there fields of endless grass and hills, mountains and clear skies—there was only dreadful dull colors, metals and woods, and dark skies.
During your forced stay, you found out that everyone was visionless and your norms such as weapons, guilds and such's use were non-existant.
On the bright side you didn't need to worry about demons or fatui.
That was until you found out about wizardy and witchy magic and the news about this hotshot boy who survived a lethal attack
(For Morax's sake, you js wanted to be sent back 💀🙏)
After a few weeks more, you recieved a letter via..owl?? Opening it you found some gray powder, which you later learn is traveling dust known as floo powder. (Now who in Morax's green earth named that sh-)
It took a few hours to try getting everything on the list, and while doing so ran into a giant fat man, you couldn't defer between the two and the 'boy who lived'. (Honestly you didn't understand why it was such a big deal, he lived, hooray?)
Finally at the last shop, you picked up a wand, unfortunately non of them came to you so you just settled with a random stick you found on the ground, and with a little help from your divine archon powers, you managed to make it look like a wand.
You were thankful you blended in with 11-12 year olds as being an archon allows you to shape shift. (It was a bit weird but hey, you're not tied to Celestia anymore so free will 🦅)
Getting on the train you were greeted with a glare from a greasy platinum haired boy and his goons. He said something about his name being Drago Melatone or something.
On the train ride, you sat in a compartment away from people, during that time you reminisced about your life, slowly missing it. You started to hate it here — it was different...too different.
Finally arriving, you were greeted with the same man you bumped into from before at the shops, who guided you all to some boats.
You were a bit surprised of them moving on they're own but it wasn't anything too special. (You may or may not have used some power to quicken up the boat)
The closer you neared to the school, the more in aw of a trance you were in. The place looked regal and magical, you were impressed with it's designing.
Finally arriving at the castle, you were guided flights of stairs before a elderly woman in fine deep green velvet robes stood before you all, starting to explain houses and how they worked.
you found it amusing how someone picked up a frog from the front, earning a look from the professor.
Afterwards, the greasy boy from the train started yapping on who you found to be a Weasley and the chosen one before being tapped by the professor.
The inside dining hall was quite magical, floating candles and starry skies above.
"It's not real you see...-" And thats when you blanked out, not wanting to ruin the magic.
A old wizard with a long fluffy beard gave a speech, introducing Filch, a care taker who looked quite the opposite.
Finally it was sorting time, first was the same girl from a few moments ago who you learned to be Hermoine Granger, then Draco Molfoy, Susan Bones, Ron Weasely, Harry Potter and then you.
"Hmm..not quite from here..?" "intelligent, resourceful and quiet, yet courageous but mindful."
"I must say, you are a tricky one Ms. (L/n)...Gryffendor!"
This is one hell of a school...
.
.
.
A/N: Holy sheez, I haven't posted in MONTHS! But don't worry, i'm getting my lick back 🙏, and this is one of the many random thoughts.

HP Astro #17: Tom Marvolo Riddle
The man, the myth, the legend...Born 31 December 1926. Nighttime. London.
I can't help but feel the intent was to have Tom Riddle born just before the New Year, and just missing it. However, the moon sign changes during this day, and I just cannot wrap my mind around a Sagittarius moon. And I couldn't even land on a Scorpio Rising once it switches moon signs that day. So instead I've given him a 4 AM birth. It would still be dark, maybe called "night" still.
And c'mon. Being born 31 December is still so close to the New Year, even if it's less dramatically close as say 11:59 PM.
This man is a Capricorn Moon, Scorpio Moon, Scorpio Rising. No, I am not accepting criticisms at this time.
Tumblr media
Let's look first at his Rising sign: Scorpio. This colors how Tom is perceived by others, and how he reacts to his environment. There is a dark charm to Scorpionic energy. There is intrigue; his guard is up, and there's this sense of there being more than meets the eye. Scorpio is all depth and intensity; a mystery that scares and tempts you in equal measure.
There is also a sense of manipulation in Scorpio. An intuitive, perceptive nature driven by the need to be controlled. Controlled of self, controlled environment.
The ascendant sign also tells us the chart ruler. Scorpio rising, Scorpio is ruled by Pluto, making Pluto the chart ruler. Pluto: death, rebirth, destruction, transformation. Death represents endings in divination.
So let's look into Tom's history, for a moment. Conceived by rape. And, when the truth came out, Tom Sr. abandoned Merope. The end of their marriage. Merope was alone and heartbroken. She gave birth at an orphanage. She died soon after. He was born on a cold, dark night. On New Year's Eve: the end of a year. His very birth was the end of so many things. All the potential that could have been his life, gone before his life really began.
Pluto also represents power. Pluto's name means "the wealthy one." He was the god of death, and riches. He was the King of the Underworld. Power, wealth, status, death. All tied back to Pluto. All tied up within Tom himself.
More interestingly to me, is that Scorpio Rising also made sense for Severus Snape and Harry Potter. Scorpio makes sense ascending for all of them alone, not even factoring chart rulership into it. But once you do take the chart rulership into consideration, it makes all the more sense. How Death was so important, and left such an impact, on all of their lives. And looking at how Tom himself was a catalyst of so much of the Death in Severus and Harry's lives.
It also strikes me that these three specifically would share something. Not only tied up as they are with each other. But thinking of it as: these lost, lonely boys. These boys whose first real home was Hogwarts. Boys who came from such humble beginnings. Who arrived at Hogwarts with such hunger. Boys who were smart and skilled and powerful in their own rights. Boys who were let down, in various ways, by Albus Dumbledore.
But we're not here to talk about Snape or Harry or Dumbledore. We're here to talk about Tom.
Let's begin with his chart ruler, shall we? Where is Pluto?
I should point out that Pluto is not a planet I often care about. It's a "generational planet", and many people within the same generation will share the same Pluto sign. But for Tom, he is ruled by Pluto. And Tom's Pluto is in Cancer.
Cancer represents home and family. Tom's generation faced great challenges; he was a child during the second World War. So many people died; a genocide (destruction) of a group of people; all in the name of the "homeland." Pluto's intense nature feeds into Cancer's drive for closeness and protectiveness. Family values. Pride in ones' culture and background. Commitment to tradition.
Look at how a Muggle war shaped Tom's life. Born after one world war, just in time for a second. A man who would go on to lead not one, but two, Wizarding Wars. All in the name of magic and the culture of Wizardkind. All for the protection of their blood and their power. "For the homeland."
Linger here a moment. Cancer represents family history, and our roots. The pride Tom feels in being a descendent of Salazar Slytherin. The shame he feels for his Muggle blood, and his common Muggle name. There was wealth (Pluto) from his Muggle family (Cancer), whom he killed (Pluto); there was power and greatness (Pluto) ruined (again: Pluto) by his maternal family (Cancer.) A sense of greatness and prestige he longed to bring back. Driven by power, yes, but also by what was lost to him. A history and culture he was separated from, by virtue of being raised in a Muggle orphanage. But so little remained of the Slytherin greatness by even Merope's time.
Then onto Hogwarts: home. His first experience being surrounded by magic. This was where he belonged, among Wizards! But more than the way Snape and Harry saw Hogwarts as home; Tom felt a sense of entitlement to Hogwarts, I believe, due to his Slytherin connection. Hogwarts felt more his home than it could be for anyone else. Hogwarts is where his roots are, after all. A rich, colorful history all in his blood.
For Tom it is more than just the generational impact of Pluto in Cancer. It was, for him, quite personal indeed. And it was that obsession with roots and history, that thirst for power and greatness, that led him down the path of destruction and death.
...but we also need to look at the house Pluto is in. Pluto is quite at home in the Eighth House: House of Death and Regeneration. The eighth house covers inheritances (hello, Parseltongue), regeneration (hello, graveyard shenanigans), sexuality (who doesn't thirst for the villain, am I right?), psychic powers (Legilimency), and occult studies and knowledge (HORCRUXES.)
So I think we can all agree: Pluto is pretty much driving this train. But I will also note, that Scorpio is ruled by Pluto according to modern rulerships. Traditional rulerships would put this as Mars, instead. And so for that reason, let's take a look at Mars and work backwards through the inner planets, all the way to the sun.
In traditional rulerships, Mars (god of war) ruled both Aries and Scorpio. Its intense, martial energy can be seen in both of them. So Tom can be argued to be ruled by war as much as by death.
For Tom, Mars (planet of action, aggression) is in Taurus (perseverance.) Taurus represents the material. Money, and sex. Sensuality, what feels good, what provides stability and structure. If Cancer is the feeling of home, Taurus is the reality of home.
Tom was an orphan. No home to call his own. No possessions of his own. He is driven by the need to possess. Think of his Horcruxes. They weren't just any items, were they? They were items of value. They were important. They were beautiful.
But also this: Taurus is the physical, and stability, yes? Home as more than just a place, but his body. His physical self carrying on. Another point towards his obsession with immortality. Keeping himself rooted in the physical world.
Taurus is willing to put in the work. Tom has the persistence and determination to carry him on. He is driven to action by his need for stability and his want of material goods. Taurus is stubborn, Taurus is the bull; Tom digs in his heels, puts his nose to the grindstone, and works his way to the top. No one and nothing will stand in his way. But by the same token, that stubbornness can make him rather set in his ways.
Mars is also in the sixth house, House of Health and Wellness. Another point towards physical wellbeing and immortality. This also means hard work and routines.
As for Venus, planet of love and leisure; for Tom this is Capricorn. Not just in romance, but in all relationships, Tom is looking for dependability, loyalty, and commitment. Taken to its extreme, this can create followers and servants rather than friends or lovers. Tom is cautious when it comes to interpersonal relationships. There is fear of rejection. Is it any wonder he might keep people at arm's length? There is a reserved and dominant energy to Capricorn. It is also an earth sign; another point towards sensuality and the material.
Capricorn is also a sign of status, and connection. It is duty and diligence. Tom is looking for hobbies and people that will benefit him.
His Venus is also in the Second House: House of Possessions. Again, that theme of the material and security.
Were Tom to ever fall in love, it would need to be someone he could count on, someone he could work with. A person who will enrich his life. Someone he feels secure with, and supported by. He will also be jealous and possessive in love. His lover would be another possession he covets and cares for, and who ultimately belongs to him.
Mercury, planet of information, in Sagittarius, the sign of expansion, the Second House, house of possessions.
Mercury covers how we receive information (learning, communication) and how we share information (teaching, talking, writing.)
By looking at Sagittarian energy, there are reasons I discarded this as his moon sign, which makes an interesting look at his Mercury. Sagittarius is warm and optimistic; open-minded. That energy feels wrong for his moon, his center of emotion, but for Mercury? Well, we know Tom is charming. He had plenty of people fooled in his schooldays. Perhaps it is him interacting with that bright, bold energy that makes him appealing.
Sagittarius is the philosopher, the explorer. Tom wants to learn all that he can. To push the bounds of knowledge and magic. Expansion, remember? Expanding his mind, expanding his power. Tom will go the distance to learn all he can, to experience all he can. Tom is also a storyteller; all of that monologuing? Yeah. That's Sagittarius for you. Sagittarius is passionate and creative! Mercury is speech and interaction. The way he speaks is grand, genuine, promising. He makes you believe. He is a man with a mission, and he wants you on the mission with him.
Sagittarius is about beliefs, and spirituality. It is about great causes. Fighting for what's right. For freedom. Freedom from the chains Mugglekind has put on them, perhaps? Freedom to use their magic? To take their rightful place as rulers of the world? It isn't world domination; it is returning the world to its rightful order. Magic doesn't belong in the shadows, or chained up in a cell! It isn't meant to be restricted! Tom knows all the right things to say; he believes it himself, and he can make others believe, too.
And because his Mercury is in the second house...Tom is pretty good with budgeting and knowing the value of things. He's also pretty good with bargaining. (His time at Borgin and Burkes.)
Now: the moon. The moon is emotions, instinct, unconscious. It isn't Sagittarian zeal at the heart of Tom. It is Scorpio's willpower and forcefulness. It isn't optimism in his heart, but ambition.
The moon is in all in Scorpio. Planets in fall or detriment struggle. Scorpio is not the optimal energy for moon's emotional states to run on. The moon signs most prone to being emotionally stunted are going to be Scorpio (fall) or Capricorn (detriment.)
There is imagination, idealism, and intuition here. Tom has the mind to make waves, and the awareness of others' emotions to do so. But there is an emotional disconnect from others. Scorpio is secretive, reserved. It can be obstinate, domineering, and jealous. Controlling, even. Scorpio seeks self-control, but can lead to a need to control the external, as well.
There is also obsessiveness in Scorpio. A drive for vengeance. Tom doesn't forget anything. This does not mean all Scorpio moons are cruel, but for Tom...well, he is. It is about protecting the self. There is fear of vulnerability, and being emotionally exposed. Tom is resourceful and self-reliant. If he keeps to himself, and relies on himself, then he'll always be safe.
After all...who has Tom ever really been able to count on? When has he ever learned he was safe? Secure? At peace? There was never a time for his heart to rest, to learn to let others in. Between nature and nurture...Well, it will take a lot to break down those walls.
Finally: the Sun. The sun is our core, our ego. Who we are, deep down, stripped of all else. The sun is what sustains us, and energizes us. For Tom, it is Capricorn: a sign of ambition and success. Capricorn is a steady, earthy energy. It is practical and no-nonsense. It isn't about frills or pleasure; those are icing on the cake, sure, but the cake is: goals. Purpose.
Tom has nothing if not a sense of purpose, of importance. He has an inner sense of prestige, and pride. This is what moves him. What energizes him. He is hard working and self-contained. He is resourceful, reserved. Tom is the goat, trekking ever onward and upward, letting no one and nothing stand in his way.
Capricorn is authority. Tom is the CEO, the Father, the Ruler. He is in charge, and he gives the sense of being worthy of that responsibility. He is steady and strong. He can be relied on. Don't worry, Tom can handle it. He will handle it.
HIs Sun is also in the Second House. Again: possessions. He is powered by his ambition for security. And, when able, the desire to bask in luxury. He can be greedy. He looks on his possessions as status symbols. He gains in life through influential people; making all the right connections as he climbs his way to the top. And, once at the top, he uses his own influence to continue to gain. Gaining power, knowledge, secrets, wealth.
The Sun is ego; Capricorn is pride and status; the Second House is wealth and influence.
Tom has so much potential for more. So many signs point to the path he followed, but that wasn't the only path available, or the only one he could have walked. Down one path, maybe Tom would have never achieved greatness at all; at least not on the scale he wanted. Another path, greatness in another form. He could have changed the world in other ways. Or focused his skills and his drive to other ventures.
Tom has the intelligence and the capabilities to achieve whatever he wants. But it was those inner cravings and needs, and sense of entitlement, supercharged by a sense of loss and fear, that drove him down the path he took. The need to become more. The Capricornic ambition and status; Scorpionic regeneration, and power; both pushing him, and twisting him, into Lord Voldemort.

Beck: Verses: Hogwarts (In Depth Version)
I wrote this before but it felt a little too vague. Ok that and I can't actually find where I wrote it out before on here. So...here I am, at it again.
In any Wizarding World/Fantastic Beasts/Harry Potter verses, Beck's kind of witches are still their own separate sort of witches. They have their own lineages, societies, schools, ways of life, and understanding of magic which can, at times, be at odds with that of the Wizarding World. They originated separately and have remained estranged for thousands of years; however they are aware of one another. Occasionally Bregða Witches (what my witches call themselves) do marry wizards or witches from the WW. If you have any questions about how I handle this, we can talk it out. I don't want to favor my lore over anyone else's, I just don't want to give it up entirely. It does shape who my characters are.
Beck's timeline shifts a bit in this verse.
She and Fen are still the children of the leaders of two old and powerful Bregða clans, the Wolves and the Foxes. Power in these clans is passed down through birth right, but since Beck was born into the priesthood, she cannot inherit the political possition of either of her parents. Her father still dies when she's six from an incurable magical ailment. Fenris, at age seven, is forced to take on his father's role as clan leader (though his mother technically rules through him).
Her paternal grandparents become extremely distraught over the loss of their only son, and in their anguish, Beck's mother cuts them off entirely. She takes Beck and her brother Fenris to Sweden to live with her mother for a year, only to flee when Linnea Tandy starts to get angry with the mistreatment of her grandchildren.
At this point, Beck starts to refuse to answer to her birthname Dahlia Adelaida, and demands to be called Beck by everyone but her brother, Fen. Fenris will always refer to her by her middle name Adelaida or Addie.
Beck and Fen are on their own from this point on. They're each doing whatever it takes to survive their mother. For Beck, that's running away. She's desperately trying to escape to the wilderness where her mother can't hurt her, and her mother is constantly dragging her back because Beck's constant attempts to flee embarrass her. Eventually, in an attempt to break her daughter from ever running again, Elea kills Beck's familiar, Dawnbreaker, when she's about ten years old. Dawn was a piece of Beck's soul, as all familiars are for my witches, and she was also the closest thing Beck had to a maternal figure. The loss of her almost kills Beck. She stops eating, she spends all hours of the day pacing her room until she collapses from exhaustion.
Fenris, who was always extremely close with his sister, becomes enraged. He's allowed his mother to use him as a puppet and while he's terrified to lose anyone else, even someone as vile as their mother, he believes he must choose between his sister and his mother. He chooses Beck. Killing a familiar is a high crime. Killing your child's familiar is punishable by death. Fenris demands his own mother's head. He calls for her to be killed in the same way she killed Dawnbreaker a few months prior. His maternal grandmother, Linnea, supports his bid, and Elea Tandy is hanged for her crimes.
Beck and Fenris are taken to live with Linnea on the Tandy Estate, but it is clear that nothing is really helping Beck. She's still restless, she still has to be coaxed to eat anything, her magic is extremely unpredictable. Fenris isn't doing much better after executing his own mother and finding that it didn't save his sister. Linnea is extremely distraught and desperate enough to do just about anything to help her grandchildren.
Their aunt Rob drops in for a visit a couple of months later with her wife, a witch from the Wizarding World who graduated from Hogwarts with fine memories of the place. She suggests sending the children there in hopes that the change of scenery, the challenges of learning new ways of magic, and the team of professional educators might help the two heal. Linnea, in her desperation, tears through centuries of estrangement and concocts a plan. She has the money, the influence, and the power to make things happen. She contacts the Minister of Magic, then Dumbledore. Money changes hands, promises are made, and Beck and Fenris are accepted to Hogwarts under the guise of a start of a new political arrangement between the Bregða and the Wizarding World.
They enter the school a few months later. Fen is allowed to join the second years despite being a year behind, and Beck is placed into Harry and Co's class. They are both sorted into Slytherin, but for extremely different reasons.
Fenris fits in almost right away. He's smart, relentless, dedicated, and there is always a looming threat of violence that his classmates come to respect in that first year. He's juggling leading the Wolf Clan and studying at Hogwarts, and clearly very used to power. Fenris is a deathly serious person who knows how to spot weak spots and cut into them.
Beck is a fish out of water. Hogwarts is completely foreign, and feels more like a cage than anything else. She is still weak from the death of her familiar, and she has to come clean to several of the professors about her inability to read. Dumbledore is kind enough to provide accommodations like special quills that automatically write her thoughts when she holds them or books that will read aloud to her when she's in private. Still, she has no friends, no real desire to be around people at all, and is deeply traumatized from years of abuse.
In the summer following her first year, Beck finds her familiar Habrok/Grani. A sun spirit that takes the form of either a horse (Grani) or a red tailed hawk (Habrok). She convinces Dumbledore to let her bring him to Hogwarts in hawk form, saying that there isn't much difference between that and an owl. His company makes her second year more tolerable, but she's still struggling to fit in. Most of the teachers, Snape especially, have little tolerance for Beck's energetic nature. She spends a lot of time scrubbing cauldrons in detention, but she doesn't particularly mind. That Christmas, she is given a small black kitten that she names Angrboða and over the next several months, the kitten becomes Beck's second and final familiar.
Third year is easier, Boða doesn't share Beck's dyslexia, and as she gains sentience, she learns to read. The only problem is the cat's body responds to the magical bond a little too---vigorously. Boða is enormous. She grows to the size of a lynx within a few short months. Unlike Beck, who tends to be gentle and kind and friendly even in her suffering, Angrboða is vicious and highly protective of her witch. The constant harassment her fellow Slytherins heap on her decreases significantly under the threat of being mauled by a large feline. And yet, Beck still mostly minds her own business. She spends her free time in animal forms, sneaking into the forest behind the castle. Her grades are fairly poor, but outside of the classroom, in the depths of the woods, her true power shines.
She tries to run several times in her Hogwarts tenure. Each time her brother or her grandmother drags her back. A donation is made to the school, an excuse is made, and few of the students really notice. Fifth year she manages to escape for the longest period of time, and arrives at Hogwarts two weeks later than she was supposed to after being missing the whole summer and nearly dying from being mauled by a cougar. She gets in trouble often with Umbridge, but only ever serves detention with her once. Upon seeing her granddaughter maimed, Linnea Tandy made some very heavy threats to the Minister in order to remind him that she sent her grandchildren there to strengthen the bonds between their people. Umbridge leaves Beck alone for the most part, but the hatred between them is palpable.
Beck doesn't join Dumbledore's Army. In fairness to her, she isn't asked. None of the Slytherins are. It isn't like she has any real friends to speak of. Outside of class, Beck is a bit of a ghost. She is often seen from a distance, walking the fringes of the allowed student spaces or standing on the edge of the Black Lake. Even more often, she isn't seen at all.
She does greatly appreciate Hermione Granger's attempts to liberate house elves with S.P.E.W. but is too wary to outright approach her and actually voice that support.
In year six Beck finally finds a friend in Luna Lovegood. They're both a bit---peculiar to say the least, but in ways that tend to compliment one another. Beck makes a run for it when the Death Eaters attack Hogwarts.
Depending on our verse, it is up in the air whether or not Beck returns after Dumbledore is killed. But she DOES return regardless when the Battle for Hogwarts occurs. Normally she isn't a fighter/hero type, and she would rather stay away, but she does care about people and can't stand to do nothing in this particular instance. Rather than throw herself into the fray, Beck uses her power over animals and her knowledge of the forest to hide younger students deep in the woods where not even the Death Eaters dare roam. Those that do find their hiding spot, Beck is forced to kill in order to protect the students.
Beck is a bit of a terror in general. Once she recovers from Dawn's death, she slowly returns to her playful, hyperactive, gentle self, but being around so many people, especially so many people that dislike her, can turn that bouncy energy to frustration and make her a bit of a bitch. Professor Flintwick does take a liking to her. Beck joins the Frog Choir, and he comes to recognize that her magical talents are a bit---different and unorthodox after getting to see her more. He becomes a bit of a father figure over the years and usually it is Flintwick that the other professors call to rein her in if she's misbehaving, because he's the only one she properly listens to.
Finally: Beck still maintains her powers (the ability to shift into multiple animal forms, her influence/draw over animals, etc etc) and she's still a feral witch. She'll never be an extremely talented witch by traditional standards, but she has a lot of raw power that is specialized into a few areas that she's very very good at.
As Beck meets other muses/makes friends, she calms down. I wrote this out in kind of a "worst case scenario" format where Beck doesn't make many/any friends. She is skittish, but if people are nice to her she warms up very fast, and she's never outwardly cruel to anyone. She was placed into Slytherin a) because she was terrified to be separated from Fen in the beginning b) despite her dumb blonde act that she puts on, she is very clever and c) because she is ambitious, it is just---in a bit of a different way.

Magic in Harry Potter seems to be way more complicated than magic in Twisted Wonderland. Like mending a whole stadium hell even mending a chandelier seems to be already challenging for them to do, yet Newt was able to fix Jacob's apartment without a sweat. With these magical differences, it would be funny if Newt!MC was at first mistaken for someone to be as powerful as Malleus. When in reality their spells are just first year level, that even an 11yr old in their world can do it.
Looks Can Be Deceiving
Author's Note's: Hi all, hope you're doing well and staying safe. I recently started the semester and wanted to tell you that I may be busy with projects and assignments. I shall try not to disappear off the face of the earth.
Newt!MC is inspired by Newt Scamander
Newt!MC Masterlist
Tumblr media
You returned back to Ramshackle after dealing with Idia and his overblot as you were accompanied by others to make sure you got home safely or at least to get your things so you could camp out elsewhere while repairs were happening. Your group consisted of the Pomefiore trio, Scarabia duo, Ace, and Deuce.
When you arrived you saw the large holes that the STYX robots left behind when they captured Vil, Jamil, and Grim which wasn't too bad. You step inside to see the damage to the lounge in all its destroyed glory.
"This isn't too bad," You commented, setting your case down and examining the damage more closely.
"Mc, you're kidding right? There is literally a hole in the wall and at least half the window is destroyed." Ace commented as the others agreed.
"Potato, as much as I admire you for doing what you can," Vil started. "The dorm is not livable, especially in this state."
"I'm still going to stay at Pomefiore so the dorm can be renovated. I'm just going to make it easier on the crews."
"How? I don't think just cleaning up the scrap will be deemed as making it a large amount easier, just decent courtesy." Epel added, looking around at the damage.
You bring your wand out and with a swipe, the room starts to repair itself as every piece went back to where it was before the STYX robots showed up. You walk around to move around the magic and hum as the wall paper repaired itself and the giant hole in the floor was fixed while the paintings were placed back into the designated places. Slowly, everything returned back to its original state, and you did one last glance over to see the window wasn’t entirely repaired, it was missing one piece. You look around to try to spy where the piece would be then notice exactly where it was.
“Kalim, could you raise your left foot really quick?” The boy jumped a bit before looking down and picking up his foot, a piece of the glass zoomed past to the window before it mended back to the entire window.
Now the lounge was back to its original state that the boys lived in for the past couple of weeks, you turn back to see the same expression on the group’s faces, dumbfounded. The only other person that they’d seen do this was Malleus, a powerful magician.
“HOW DID YOU DO THAT?” Ace yelled, breaking everyone from their trances
“It was a simple spell that most magical folks learn at Hogwarts.” You, scratching the back of your head. “Is that not the case here?”
“Obviously! How long have you been able to do that?”
“Ace, this is how I got the dorm back in shape when I first arrived, and I would repair the dorm with the spell. I would always use this spell in my world to repair broken buildings and had to fix a dear friend’s apartment after we met.”
“You could’ve repaired the stage back together easily?” Deuce sputtered out, trying to wrap his head around this.
“It would have taken a while, but it was possible to do.”
“Henchman! Teach me that spell, I need it to become a great wizard.”
“It wouldn’t be possible,” Jamil interrupted as he held his chin within his hand. “Their magic and our magic are different.”
“What do you mean, Jamil?” Kalim asked.
“Do you want to explain or would I?” Jamil asked, turning his gaze to you.
“I can take it,” You respond before starting your explanation, “Since I don’t have to worry about blot accumulation, I can work longer than you guys can and cast powerful spells. Though with either magic, practice is needed to perfect spells.”
“So, you mean you could fix any damage from an overblot easily?”
“Pretty much, but I leave those with money to fix their destroyed property when I had nothing to do with it. Besides, Crowley can fix the damage that his carelessness caused.”
“Have you used the spell on any of the dorms?” Epel questioned.
“Mainly on Octavinelle when the tank nearly broke, but I usually use a small repair spell on minor stuff like teacups and paper. The number of glasses I’ve repaired, you would think boys at this school would be more aware with them.”
“Can you fix phones or tablets?”
“I don’t entirely trust my magic with technology, so I leave the technological repair to others.”
“My! What a lovely ability you have, Trickster.” Rook cheered.
“Anyone who doesn't know you would probably mistake you for a powerful magician. Such an interesting fear tactic.” Vili commented before smirking slightly. “Appears harmless yet has fearsome creatures and spells on their side, what power you hold, Potato.”
“Yet, here I am, trying to get through life here,” You shrug. “Now, let me finish up taking some charms off of the rooms.”

HELLO!
Sorry to bother you guys, but I was wondering if there are some fics where Harry and Draco are both professors, but they are dating
Bônus points if some students don't know
My patrons are never a bother! So glad you've come to visit the library, and just in time! Your holds have arrived!
Professors List 2
Drarry by @drarrily-we-row-along (1,138 words, rated T)
Harry closed the door and looked around the hallway. “They’re shipping us!” he hissed.
“Pardon?”
“The kids!” he exclaimed. “I overheard them. They’re smashing our names together!”
Is it true what the rumors say, Professor? by @drarrily-we-row-along (1,876 words, rated T)
Draco knows without a shadow of a doubt that hiring Harry Potter to be the Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor midway through the school year is going to be an unmitigated disaster.
Still, when he sees the other man struggling with being a first-year teacher, he can't help but take pity on him and see how he can help.
Unspoken Affection by @janieohio (2,616 words, rated M)
Harry finds a stack of post-its, and what starts as simply leaving Draco a reminder with a bit of romance turns into a lifetime of memories.
The Decoy Date by @gallifrey1sburning (3,750 words, rated T)
Harry wants Draco to come with him to an upcoming charity gala. Draco can't figure out why Harry would want him, of all people, to be his fake date for the evening. Surely there must be better options?
Bubbles, Baths, and Bad Luck by @manixzen (5,004 words, rated E)
A poisonous potion covering Professor Potter nearly head-to-toe would normally be a pretty big deal. It should be as bad as his day gets. But that’s before he’s informed that the cure involves a steamy, hot bath with an unrequited crush.
The Ghosts of Hogwarts Past by @writcraft (30,071 words, rated E)
Draco has hardly had time to bask in his promotion to Head of Slytherin House when he gets news of Harry Potter’s return to Hogwarts. With his increased workload, the reappearance of the ex he never got over, the ghost that won’t let him sleep, and some curious coded diaries, it’s shaping up to be a hell of a year.
Water, Shadow, and Stone by Omi_ohmy (53,206 words, rated E)
Potions professor Draco notices DADA professor Potter’s increasing absences. He hates himself for caring, but where is he going? What is he doing?
Can't Afford to Fall by @p1013 (100,543 words, rated E)
Looking at Harry Potter, the Savior of the Wizarding World, curled in on himself on a classroom floor, Draco can't help but think of that scared sixteen-year-old version of himself. All he wanted was for someone to help, to save him from his own choices. And here he is, with Harry Potter pooled before him like blood on tile, needing the same.
Draco takes a hesitant step forward. He's on the edge of something, though he doesn't know what it is yet. But there's a choice before him, one he almost doesn't want to make.
Bolts by @lqtraintracks (114,500 words, rated E)
Harry joins the Hogwarts staff as the new History of Magic Professor, while Draco has already been teaching Defence Against the Dark Arts for the past year. When Samantha, a first year, is being bullied one day and throws a made-up Truth curse at her harasser, only to accidentally hit Harry instead, Harry becomes cursed to tell the truth, and not only that, he has to regularly tell it to Draco Malfoy. Samantha is clearly gifted, maybe the most powerful witch or wizard to ever come through Hogwarts, and yet she has no idea how to take the curse off. As they work to remove it—and also teach Samantha how to control a power that's becoming more dangerous by the day—will Harry's truths become too much to handle? And will whatever’s going on with Draco just make everything exponentially worse?
All Life is Yours to Miss by Saras_Girl (114,741 words, rated M)
Professor Malfoy's world is contained, controlled, and as solitary as he can make it, but when an act of petty revenge goes horribly awry, he and his trusty six-legged friend are thrown into Hogwarts life at the deep end and must learn to live, love and let go.
For those going back to school soon, I'm sending you support! I know many teachers have been working to get their classrooms set up for weeks. I know students have been buying supplies and textbooks and beginning to feel nervous. I wish everyone luck for the new school year!
❤️ As always, if you find a fic you enjoy, please remember to leave the author a kudos or a comment! ❤️
Lots of Love and Happy Reading!

Since that “raising harry” ask came in, I cannot stop thinking about it. BUT one thing in particular: would sirius black have a job? (i haven’t read enough of these fics to see what people write him as doing???) and I have a few HC’s/options:
1. stay-at-home-dad sirius. So. uhm. yes. we fuck hard with this idea. I also want to add that I think James would’ve wanted to be a stay-at-home dad as well (”The healing program at st. mungos is just so intense,james, are you sure you’re okay stay home and doing all of that?” “did i just win the lottery?????”). So i think Sirius would’ve thought similarly, and in a way of honoring his best friend would’ve chosen to stay at home while Remus goes off and teaches.
But also, he’s loaded and he knows he doesn’t have to work. Sirius also loves cleaning and cooking. (I have a fic where he takes up home improvement and remodels the shit out of number 12 and tbh, that applies here too). He hates thinking about his future and any expectations, so Harry needing childcare and someone to take care of the home is ideal. Like Quidditch Dad Sirius coming in with the good snacks? School Fieldtrip Chaperone Sirius coming in with the good snacks and unbridled enthusiasm (*note: sirius would’ve been lenient  with the rules but inevitably would’ve just made whatever boring museum they were at sound SO COOL, the kids listened, even if he wanted to die inside). stay at home dad sirius.
2. astronomy professor sirius. (or arithmancy, i can’t decide.). but I do think Sirius really loved astronomy (HC that he used to spend time with his Uncle looking at the stars and telling stories and that is the only reason he managed to not change his name entirely). And I also find it so cute to have Remus and Sirius both teaching at Hogwarts. Like professor boyfriends? Professor husbands? Grading papers together and going through assignments. Also, Sirius Black teaching teenagers because we know he would’ve found them hysterical (when harrys a teenager, he just laughs at what he says constantly) and would entertain all their thoughts/sometimes derail class for it just to make sure they felt heard.  “This assignment is so stupid. It’s going to take too long and we have other classes to worry about!” “It’s stupid? Really? Tell me more about this. Perhaps I can make it less, stupid.” or like...
“You only like this bullshit because you’re named after it.” “You are absolutely right. Its precisely because its bullshit that I like it so much.”
(also sirius black teenage whisperer. perpetually not phased by anything.)
3. wizarding council/politician/lawyer sirius. personally, I love this for him. We all know Sirius is smart, and we all know he has opinions on politics. In a lot of my universes, I HC that sirius would actually be great as a lawyer, if they have those in the HP world (I think his dinner tables as a child operated as business meetings and sweetie learned how to negotiate to be respected and also get his way). But because of that, he would fight hard against ever going into politics because of his last name and his creepy family and he wanted nothing to do with it.
But he gets bent out of shape reading the news, or when he is called in for the wizengamot (its canon that the sacred 28 hold seats, no?) and comes home and vents to remus about due process and unfair trials and remus one day is just like:  “So...Harry’s going to be at hogwarts soon...and not at home...have you considered...doing something?” “Like what?” “Sirius, you get so upset every time you go to the ministry with all the...political agendas. You’re smart and you have the power to do something with that fancy last name of yours...have you considered--” “Being a politician?” “Examining career opportunities in the Department of Law Enforcement? Within the Wizarding Council. It might be a good fit.” (and sirius pushes back for YEARS until one day he reads the newspaper and impulsively decides to walk down to the ministry and see what the hell he can do and that’s how he ends up ((im just going to assume theres some kind of continuing ed for this)) registering for legal practioner courses)
And if you don’t think sirius has a reputation as being the one to filibuster the shit out of everything that was going to be passed that he didn’t agree with, you are wrong. Sirius knows all the tricks, which he learned from being around his family, but also has an obscenely good heart and would definitely be the most annoying and brutal and successful lawyer/politician.

Day 30: Likeness
Draco Malfoy had spent his entire life being shaped and molded into the image and likeness of Lucius Malfoy.
It had always been assumed that he would go into politics, that he would settle down with a nice pureblood girl and have a child. His life had always been laid out before him like it had already happened.
But the summer Draco turned 18 he left. He left his family, left his friends, left the wizarding world all together. Draco cut his hair short on the sides and let the top grow out and then he dyed it pink.
He got a muggle tattoo; bright, beautiful flowers to cover up the dark mark: new life conquering death.
And he got a job dancing at a strip club. He was good at it, he had the body for it, for the corsets and the tiny panties, for the heels that made his legs look miles long. The muggle glitter made his pale, muscular body shimmer under the lights. He had the face for it, his eyes mysterious and otherworldly enough that the make-up only enhanced it.
He was a very popular act and Draco enjoyed the whole affair. He enjoyed people watching him, desiring him. It wasn't a forever career but it served him well.
It continued to serve him well for four whole years, before one night when the lights came up and he strut out onto the stage, rolling his hips and letting his hands caress his body, and just as he was reaching for the pole his eyes snagged on a pair of eyes he would have recognized anywhere.
It felt like eternity passed in the beat of the song he missed as he found Harry Potter staring back at him from the audience. A jolt of something electric skittered down his spine and Draco forced himself to look away and start dancing.
(Read more below the cut)
He hooked his leg around the pole and began his routine, falling into the familiar motions, spinning, and rolling, and flipping, using every ounce of strength and control he possessed.
And he very intentionally did not allow his eyes to stray to Potter.
Even without looking, though, he knew that he had the other man's undivided attention. It had been so long since he'd felt the heat of Potter's gaze on him that he'd almost forgotten what it was like to be the center of his attention.
At the very end, as he was collecting the notes that had been thrown at him, he allowed himself one more look.
Potter had grown up. He'd grown taller and his body had filled out, it was almost hard to believe that he was the same boy who'd come to Hogwarts looking malnourished, weak, and filthy to fight the most dangerous wizard to ever live. His hair had grown out, too, it was pulled back into a messy bun, and he'd grown in a beard that he kept trimmed neatly.
He had the sudden urge to feel the scrape of his beard on all of the sensitive places on his body, to sink his fingers into Potter's curls as his mouth tasted Draco's skin.
He made eye contact, and his arousal spiked at the look of sheer want in the other man's eyes. In that moment, Draco felt like the most powerful man in the entire world.
The man sitting next to Potter, a muggle that Draco didn't recognize, punched him in the shoulder and the moment dissipated like smoke.
With a quick shake of the head, he finished collecting his money and disappeared back stage without looking at him again.
That night he wondered what would come of Potter seeing him, wondered if he'd find reporters from the Prophet at the show the next night, worried that his world was crashing down around him.
But he couldn't seem to stop wondering if he might see Potter again.
------------
Potter returned the next night, and the next, and the next, and so on for the following month.
Every time Draco stepped onto the stage, Potter was there in the crowd watching. And he found himself watching Potter more and more, until one night he spent nearly his entire scene watching the other man, he might as well have used Potter as a spot to keep himself from getting dizzy.
It was that night that he decided enough was enough. He had to find out why Potter was here and what he wanted. After his performance he changed quickly, pulling on a pair of skinny jeans and a plain black t-shirt. He slipped into a pair of trainers and headed out of his dressing room and toward the door that led into the club.
Potter was no where to be seen when he came in so he went outside and saw him walking down the sidewalk. "Potter!" he shouted, cupping his hands around his mouth.
The other man froze before turning slowly to look at him.
Draco jogged to catch up to him but found that he wasn't quite sure what to say once he was standing in front of him.
"Uh," the other man said inelegantly, rubbing the back of his neck, "Hey."
"Hey?" Draco spluttered incredulously. "You show up to every single one of my performances for the past month and that is all you have to say? Hey?"
"You're very talented," Potter offered.
"Yes," he replied.
Potter snorted, "Humble as ever, I see."
"Why should I be humble? I am talented," he said, tilting his chin up defiantly. "I've worked hard to get where I am."
"Sorry," Potter said, trying to backpedal, "I didn't-" he shook his head. "I'm not sure what to say to you. I didn't mean to offend you."
"I'm not offended," Draco replied. He crossed his arms, wishing he'd brought a jacket, "Just," he huffed, "tell me why."
"Why what?"
"Why you keep coming to watch me dance!"
Potter looked at him for a long moment, "Are you cold?" he asked.
"Yes," he replied, because it was true. Potter started to shrug off his jacket, "You don't have to do th-" but his protest fell on deaf ears as he looped it over Draco's shoulders.
"I've asked myself that very same question a thousand times," Harry replied. "In part, I think it's because so many people just stayed the same. It's why I left the wizarding world for the most part, everyone wanted me to be who I'd always been and I didn't want that anymore. I wanted to be allowed to grow and change. And you've obviously done that, too."
"So, what you felt like we were kindred spirits or something?" he asked.
"Sort of," Potter replied, lazily lifting one shoulder, "But you're just nothing like what I imagined you turn out to be and it made me wonder what else I was wrong about when it came to you."
"And you thought the best way to figure it out was by watching me pole dance?"
Potter laughed and rubbed the back of his neck again, "I don't know. I couldn't figure out what to do," he confessed. "I didn't know how to talk to you."
"Still," Draco said, "there has to be more to it than that."
"You're also bloody gorgeous," Potter added, "when you dance. And I really like watching you."
"Oh?"
He nodded, "I'd wondered a little bit before I saw you again if part of my obsession with you at Hogwarts was actually attraction that I just hadn't understood at the time."
"And?" he asked.
"Well, obviously seeing you again confirmed it." Potter looked down and scuffed his toe on the sidewalk.
In a moment of bravery that he'd never quite be able to understand later, Draco stepped forward, caught Potter's chin and pressed their lips together.
Potter took a surprised gasp, sucking a bit of Draco's air into his mouth before he started to kiss him back. His hands moved to cup Draco's face as he kissed him softly, gently like Draco was something precious, something treasured.
He'd been kissed a lot but he'd never been kissed like this. He'd never been kissed with such single-minded devotion, never been kissed like he was someone instead of something. Potter licked into his mouth, stroking his tongue over Draco's as one of his hands slid down to Draco's waist, drawing him a bit closer.
After a long moment, Potter pulled back first, "We should get off the sidewalk," he said.
"Logical," Draco replied.
"Could I take you to dinner?"
The corner of Draco's mouth tipped up, "I don't usually have dinner with my one night stands."
"Well, maybe I could not be a one night stand?" Potter said. "Not that I'm even remotely opposed to the idea of sex with you, I just can't imagine that one night could ever be enough."
"I might be able to be persuaded."
"Oh?" Potter asked, smiling wide enough that his dimples appeared. "How might I be able to persuade you?"
He smirked, "I'm not entirely sure yet but you're resourceful, you'll figure it out."
"Where would you like to go for dinner?" Potter asked.
"You flat," he replied. "I'm still in my stage make-up and it makes for some funny looks."
"Your make up is gorgeous," Potter protested, "But I'd be very glad for you to come back to my flat."
"Lead on, then," Draco replied, feeling a spark of anticipation.
This was just the first of many nights that Draco came to Harry's flat after the show. He came to his flat so often, in fact, that it eventually became their flat. And Harry had been right all along, one night (or one lifetime, for that matter) could never be enough.

Hello! How would compare and contrast Snarry vs Drarry? Since you have (beautifully!) written both, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the dynamics of these two ships. Thank you!
Hello Anon, thank you for this lovely message and what a topic!
I have set out below the cut why I think the dynamics differ but also some of the similarities and it got very, very long. Yikes.
DRACO
Draco is privileged, from a wealthy, pureblood, old wizarding family and immersed in magic from childhood. He's the kind of popular where he has his crew and doesn't really care if the Gryffindors don't like him, he is athletic and bright and he is described in a way that suggests he is attractive. Up until the point things really start to go wrong for Draco, he leads a relatively charmed life. He is a product of his upbringing, of his upper class status, he experiences a childhood where he is spoiled, loved and doted on, albeit he appears to be subject to high expectations of academic excellence and sporting prowess. With his friends he appears to be something of the ringleader and generally liked. He gravitates towards Voldemort because it's really all he's known, he's born into it. At first it seems Draco's views are driven by his desire to protect the things he values (wealth, status, power) and the privilege he has become accustomed to and, in the end, he sticks around primarily out of fear and self preservation. Draco exhibits moments of cowardice.
SEVERUS
Severus has an entirely different upbringing. He is working class, has a tense relationship with his parents, he is disliked and bullied at school which leaves him isolated, he gravitates towards solitary intellectual pursuits and he is described in a way that suggests he is supposed to be unattractive (although this reader would argue he has a certain magnetic charge). Lily aside, his relationships as a child seem to be shaped by a fascination with the power that comes with wealth and elitism, something he has never experienced. Sirius describes him as Lucius Malfoy's 'lap dog' and it is telling that Lucius is much older, a Prefect when Severus starts Hogwarts. He is radicalised in a way and gravitates towards Voldemort through a greedy hunger for power, a desire for revenge and a desperate desire to change his lot in life. He stays because, well, we all know why he stays. Severus is brave but grudgingly, acerbically so. The deepest insult he confronts is being called a coward by Harry.
FIRST ENCOUNTERS
Aside from the differences in their characters, the way Harry encounters Severus and Draco is completely different. When we meet Severus in canon, he is bitter, angry, jealous, grieving and indebted to Dumbledore. He is also in a position of power as Harry's professor. When we meet Draco, he is Harry's peer but he is also full of himself, an arrogant little shit who thinks the world is his for the taking and he thinks very little of Dumbledore, because father says...
This shapes Harry's encounters with them both. Severus approaches Harry with animosity, venom and a legacy of hurt that Harry doesn't yet understand. Severus places no weight on Harry's celebrity, he actively resents and despises it. Draco, by contrast, values Harry's celebrity initially. He wants to be friends with the wizarding world's brightest star and the animosity that follows between them flows directly from the sting of Harry's initial rejection.
ONGOING RELATIONSHIP
Severus wilfully misunderstands Harry. He draws connections between Harry and James based solely on their striking physical similarities and (incorrectly) ascribes the characteristics of James to Harry. He is tasked with protecting Harry but he does so always through gritted teeth. The curse of Severus Snape is to spend his life protecting someone who represents everything he despised as a child and yet the only person who can give a dying man that last connection to his one true friend.
Draco sees Harry more clearly but his perspective is shaped by jealousy and the sting of that first encounter, which leads him to make fun of Harry's circumstances and the people he associates himself with. He doesn't misunderstand Harry in the way Severus does, but he also doesn't know him fully.
MAGICAL CONNECTIONS
The magic that connects Harry, Draco and Severus is fascinating. Harry famously uses Sectumsempra on Draco without knowing what impact it will have. He then intentionally uses the same spell on Severus (unsuccessfully) knowing exactly the damage it will do. Not only does the use of the spell in both instances show us a darker side to Harry, but the spell was also created by Severus and he is the one that helps Draco after the spell has been cast. I could write an essay on the links this spell creates between those three characters.
Expelliarmus is another one. Severus teaches Harry this spell and in doing so, equips him with his most powerful tool in the fight against Voldemort. Harry disarms Draco of his wand and the implications of that in terms of the final battle are intrinsically connected to the 'signature move' of Harry's in battle, which is all about gaining possession of the wand of the attacker as opposed to trying to target the attacker themselves.
Avada Kedavra is also something that binds the three of them. Harry witnesses Draco failing to cast the Killing Curse, and simultaneously witnesses Severus easily casting it. This also is part of the broader relationship Harry, Draco and Severus have to Dumbledore. Harry and Severus are willing pawns in the master plan but neither are fully equipped with all the information they need. Draco ends up unwittingly being part of the plan but he is never a soldier of Dumbledore's Army in the way Harry explicitly is and Severus, with a gnashing of his teeth, also is.
Finally, one of the important similarities between Severus and Draco is they are both skilled Occlumens, something Harry is notoriously rubbish at. This skill suggests both are better able to bury and compartmentalise their emotions whereas Harry is unable to do so with any success and this plays into the fact that in both ships, Harry is likely to be the more demonstrative, wearing his heart on his sleeve in a way both Draco and Severus can better disguise/suppress.
DIFFERENT DYNAMICS
With all of the above the dynamics between Drarry and Snarry will always have a different slant, even if Harry himself is essentially the same. By way of sweeping overstatement, Snarry tends to skew darker and heavier because there is much more to overcome, but by contrast Severus has also spent his 'canon' years protecting Harry which creates this bitter 'Guardian Angel' type dynamic that, if you ship it, can be intensely romantic when they encounter one another again as adults.
The age difference lends itself to different dynamics too. Harry and Draco have that potential for young, dumb and in love, working things out, exploring, eighth year and spin the bottle sort of stuff that Snarry doesn't really have in the same way. It feels more natural that Harry and Draco would encounter one another as peers from the same year group, so part of the battle with Snarry is working out how Harry and Severus end up in the same spaces together in adulthood (Snape's canon death being a pesky inconvenience). The age difference raises another important difference in dynamic too, when it comes to the experience of Severus and Draco as gay or bisexual men, if you apply Muggle attitudes to same-sex relationships that have shifted over time.
The age difference is also relevant because there is a capacity for Draco to change his ways as he grows up, but Severus has already long changed his political beliefs and we know Severus as an adult in canon. That's not to say adults can't change their beliefs of course, but because his adult character exhibits moments of real cruelty you have a challenge around how this irascible, often mean, sharp-tongued character can give Harry what he yearns for when it comes to affection, love, family, security and so on.
There are hurdles to overcome with both ships and although the core 'enemies to lovers' starting point may create a similar overarching dynamic, the roots of those hurdles, the scale of them and the ways and ease with which they get resolved will differ because ultimately Draco and Severus are very different characters with quite polarised life experiences. They have some similarities, Occlumency aside, such as fostering beliefs during childhood they reject around the same time in their lives, albeit for very different reasons. Both are Slytherins who, their magical skills would suggest, are capable of pushing their emotions down in a way Harry can't, when everything for him is raw, on the surface, now, even though they both also unleash their emotions at various points. They are both prone to dramatics, to anger, to pettiness, to humour and in many respects, Harry is prone to those things too. In general though, I believe Draco and Severus would approach a relationship with Harry quite differently.
I don't think there's any one easy way to pinpoint the different dynamics in general because there is a huge variety of ways these three can be presented in fanfic, with its own plot, worldbuilding, external factors and so on. There are so many different directions you could go in with Snarry and Drarry so I'm only speaking from some of the things that strike me not only about the Severus/Harry and Draco/Harry connections/potential hurdles but also about the links between the three of them. Ultimately I think there is opportunity for deep connection, discovery, levity, passion and of course, delicious angst and UST with both ships, but they tend to manifest a little differently for all the reasons outlines about.
There's so much more I can say, but I'll leave it there. Thank you, Anon!

𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬
➤ pairing: draco malfoy x hufflepuff reader
➤ summary: every year, you bake christmas cookies for your friends. after you seeing a sad draco malfoy sitting alone, you can’t help but give him your last batch despite being enemies.
➤ words: 1.9k
➤ a/n: you don’t have to be in hufflepuff to relate to being y/n, i just wrote it this way! get ready for some major fluff y’all
Tumblr media
It was finally the most wonderful time of the year, at least according to you: Christmas. Christmas always symbolized the happiest moments of your life. Your most cherished memories included sitting around the tree back home with your family and watching your family’s faces light up as they open presents. You always tried your best to spread that familiar joy to those around at Hogwarts.
That’s why, for the sixth year in a row, you planned to bake Christmas themed sugar cookies and hand them out to your large group of friends. This task seemed simple enough, and it was for your first couple years at the magical school. However, now your once close knit group of friends had grown tremendously. Now, it was practically a whole night’s work to bake these cookies on time.
That’s what led you to risk breaking Hogwarts’ very clear rules. Ever since the threat of war with You-Know-Who, it was strictly prohibited for any students to be wandering the corridors after dark. Seeing as you had no time after classes and assignments to bake and tomorrow would be the last day before winter break, you had no choice but to break the rules. It may be silly or childish to risk getting in severe trouble just to bake cookies, but disappointing your friends was not an option.
At least you’re a Hufflepuff and your common room was near the kitchens.
Not even 30 minutes after the sunset, you found yourself sneaking into the school’s kitchen and setting on your mission. You left the lights off, whispering “Lumos” and allowing your wand to be your source of light. You set your wand on one of the marble kitchen counters, getting out the bowls and ingredients you would need.
Time seemed to pass in a blur. You made it a point to make as little noise as possible. The last thing you needed after all was Professor Snape to find you in the kitchens. The thought of getting caught sends chills down your spine, nevertheless one of the professors you absolutely feared finding you.
You took out the largest bowl you could find in the cupboards and rolled up your yellow and black robe before beginning to work. This was a (Y/L/N)’s family recipe and didn’t need a written record of the recipe, it’s one you have been making with your parents since practically birth. You combined the flour, baking powder, and salt in the bowl, your thoughts practically running a mile a second as you worked.
You were aware that if this was any other witch or wizard baking, they would simply use magic. Maybe that was the smartest way to do this, especially with the need to get out of the kitchen as soon as possible to avoid punishment. The thought did cross your mind, but what was the fun in it? You adored magic in every way, but you also carried love in doing things the Muggle way sometimes. There was something so simple in baking a dessert from your own hands. It was perhaps like a potions class, except without Professor Snape sneering over your shoulder and telling you every mistake you’re making.
Next, you used a whisk to beat together some butter and sugar, eventually adding eggs and vanilla extract after the mixture was completely smooth. You added the dry ingredients to the wet, smiling to yourself as the dough formed into the exact consistency you needed for some tasty cookies.
You rolled the dough enough so it was a thin sheet that laid out in front of you, before cutting it with various shapes of cookie cutters. Your friends were definitely being spoiled this year, not that you minded, one of the greatest joys was surprising your friends with small gifts. In the end, there were sheets full of cookies shaped in trees, snowmen, gingerbread houses, presents. You even managed to find a cookie cutter in the shape of a mug filled with Butterbeer from Hogsmeade.
While you baked the cookies and prepared the icing, you couldn’t stop your thoughts from wondering yet again. You made a mental list of all the friends you would need to be sure to see before the day ends. There was the Golden Trio, Ginny, Luna, several friends from Hufflepuff.
One person you were so sure that was not getting cookies was the one and only Draco Malfoy. You truly did not hate a single soul, but you held a distaste for the young man. You weren’t sure why, but ever since Year 1, he has set it out to make it a nightmare for the entire Hufflepuff house. He often called your house an embarrassment to Hogwarts, the weakest house by far. How a person could be filled with so much hate shocked you.
A soft ding pulled your thoughts away from the platinum blond, signaling that they were done and needed to be pulled out of the multiple ovens Hogwarts had provided. You let them cool to the side while you began to work on the frosting. Your mind couldn’t help but focus on Malfoy, for whatever reason. A part of you strongly disliked him, but a part of you have always wondered why he acts the way he does. You’re aware his family is one of the most powerful magic families in the world, but that doesn’t make him better than you or any of your friends. So, what reason could he think of to justify his behavior?
Time seemed to blur after the cookies had cooled down enough for you to decorate them. Ever since you were a child, this was always your favorite part of the process. You had the chance to be creative with how you designed the cookie. It truly brought the cookie to life, it seemed. Your years of decorating experience has allowed you to really master the craft, creating unique designs that only a professional baker may be able to pull off.
At the end of the process, you had multiple dozens of bags filled with cookies of all shapes and sizes, labeled neatly with the recipient’s name printed on them. You filled a wooden basket with the bags, finally allowing yourself to breathe. It was a close call, but you managed to bake the cookies before dawn. You ended the night with flour covered hands, but you hardly minded. You took a moment to look at the time on a clock near the oven and a soft gasp escaped your lips.
Was it really 7:45 in the morning? You had Potions at 8, which was halfway across the castle. If you had any hope of getting there on time, you had to leave now.
With a quick flick of your wand, you set the kitchen in order. It looked as if no one was in there the entire time. You rushed out of the kitchens towards the main corridor, down the steps towards the potions classroom.
The day seemed to pass in a blur as well. Perhaps it was because it was the last day before winter break, but it seemed as if you blinked and you were already at dinner with your friends. You decided today to sit with Harry, Ron, and Hermione at the Gryffindor table. It wasn’t unusual for you to do so, however, most of the time you sat at the Hufflepuff table. The only reason you tended to avoid the Gryffindor table like the plague was because it was right next to the Slytherin table. You refused to let Malfoy ruin Christmas for you.
You handed bags out to the three friends in front of you, laughing to yourself as Ron abandoned his chicken leg to practically tear up the delicate cookie bag. Harry thanked you for the desserts and stored them in his pockets, while Hermione complimented you on the fascinating designs you made with the frosting.
As you talked to Hermione, you felt a pair of eyes on you, although you couldn’t pinpoint where from. Your eyes broke from Hermione’s and glanced around the room, until they landed on a boy sitting at the Slytherin table.
You immediately recognized him as Draco Malfoy due to the infamous hair color. He sat in his black and emerald school robes, his eyes wondering about the room as he sat alone. It was quite a strange sight, he was the leader of his usual friend group in fact. However, today, it was as if that friend group disappeared in front of his very eyes. He sat with his cheek leaning against his pale hand, sadness apparent in his icy gray eyes. Once he realized he had been caught staring, his eyes darted back to his lap, where he had to pretend to read one of the many books in the library.
Perhaps it was the Hufflepuff in you, but you felt immediate sympathy for him. You hardly consider him an acquaintance, let alone a friend, but it was hard for you to watch someone in despair and not do something to cheer them up. Without even thinking about how this would look or any of the backlash you may face with your friends, you took the last batch of cookies you made just for yourself and made your way to the Slytherin table.
Seating yourself right across from the Slytherin Prince, you slid the bag of cookies across the table to him. His eyes rose to yours as he realized he was no longer alone.
“Draco.” You said softly, biting your lip. Being around someone this infamous tended to make you nervous, much more than you thought. You eventually managed to bring yourself to make eye contact. You could have melted into those eyes and you would not have known.
He raised his eyebrow, a bit confused as to why you were sitting in front of him with cookies on the table. “Y/N?” was all he could manage to spit out.
“I, uhm..” You shook your head slightly, trying to steady your heartbeat and remain focus on the mission. “I was sitting with my friends and noticed you were alone. Every year I make cookies for my friends, I had an extra bag and thought maybe it could cheer you up.”
For a moment, Draco forgot any sense of despair he had about becoming a Death Eater due to the pressure of his family, and the mission he had been charged with. It was a stupid bag of Christmas cookies, but it may have been the kindest thing anyone could have done for him. He felt himself sitting up straighter, a small smirk coming to his face. He felt as if he could trust the stranger in front of him, for whatever reason.
“Thank you.” He looked up at you once again, before tearing a corner from the page in his book and pulling out a quill. He wrote down a couple lines and folded it up, handing it to you. “I’ve never received a gift that came with no cost to me. Please, look at this when you have the chance, alright?”
You took the paper and nodded, not sure what to do with the feelings coming over you. Before you could say anything more, Draco stood from his seat and gathered his things. He took a bite from a snowman shaped cookie and with a smile on his face, nodded to you and walked away.
Unfolding the paper in your hands, it read:

Warnings: mentions of pain and food, some swearing, passing out - but there's some really cute fluff at the end I promise!! I don’t just write angst!!!
Word count: 2.1k
Tumblr media
In the muggle world, the idea of soulmates is very much a fairy tale whispered to little girls and boys before promises of sweet dreams. The idea, though, follows muggles to adulthood; always wondering whether there was someone out there perfectly made for them.
In the wizarding world, the magic of soulmates is very real. Young witches and wizards hang onto the tales of their parents, of their grandparents who had found their soulmate in the other.
When asked repeatedly by curious minds – how did you know? How will I know? The response was always the same: “They took away my pain.”
The sign of the soulmate bond between witches and wizards manifested itself through pain. They would feel their soulmate’s pain but could also relieve pain too. Feeling the pain of your soulmate was a marker of being ready to meet your soulmate.
But here’s the catch: to find relief from their pain, you have to be touching your soulmate.
--------------------------------------
Harry Potter was famously known across the wizarding community as The Boy Who Lived. He had come out his parent’s cold-blooded murder relatively unscathed. His only injury being a scar marring the right side of his forehead, perfectly shaped like a lightning bolt – or for the more morbid, the wand movement of the Killing Curse.
The scar marking his forehead was the remnants of the use of a forbidden curse.
The pain of the scar was always there; simmering under the surface of his skin like a deep ache. It only flared to a white-hot pain when the Dark Lord was nearby.
Harry was experiencing the increasing pain more often now.
Harry felt awful for his soulmate; not only would they have to live a target on their back the moment the connection was made, and the bond accepted, but they’re having to cope with the pain from his scar as well as numerous other injuries he’s received over the years.
In comparison to him, his soulmate isn’t hurt often. Which in the beginning had Harry panicking, thinking he wasn’t ready to meet his soulmate or worse, he didn’t have one. It was rare for a witch or a wizard not to have a soulmate, but it happened, and it would be Harry’s luck for him not to have one.
Then he felt it; a sharp pain in right hip as if his soulmate had walked into the edge of a table. The ache lasted for an hour and a bruise bloomed overnight. Harry didn’t like to admit it but he poked the bruise in disbelief at the very fact of his soulmate existing.
His first priority for when he met was to apologise for all the pain you had suffered so far. His second priority was to take you out to Hogsmeade, to get to know you better.
-----------------------------------------------
Your soulmate suffered with migraines.
They had to. Nothing else could explain the blinding pain you felt in the right side of your forehead that most of time had you curled up in your dorm room with the curtains to your bed closed tightly to keep the light out.
You had been experiencing your soulmate’s pain for over a year now. You were more than ready to meet them, if only to rant at them over the pain they caused you. The migraines were the start of it but then there were the dull aches of bruises and sharp pains of cuts.
A lesson on safety was your second priority if and when you met your soulmate.
Your first priority was to ensure that they wouldn’t be this hurt again.
--------------------------------------------
Your head had felt fuzzy all day. As if it wasn’t quite working to its full potential; that there was something going on.
It had been a challenge at breakfast to eat anything; the increasing pain in your head making you too nauseous to eat a single bite. Your friend, Jenny, urged you to go back to bed – to spend the day resting. You wave off her protests, stating that you felt fine enough to go to class – you would feel better by lunch, you promise.
You steadily feel worse throughout the morning, but you put on a brave face; trying not to wince too much at loud sounds and bright lights. Jenny becomes increasingly concerned through each lesson and tells you multiple times to go back to bed, that she would grab any work you miss. You decline each time; you could make it to lunch. You wouldn’t feel this bad by lunch.
Transfiguration, luckily, is a study lesson in preparation for your upcoming OWLs. You sigh in relief at the calming environment in the classroom but despite that, the pain doesn’t lessen. Instead it increases to a steady pulse that travels from the right side of your forehead to the centre. You fight the wave of dizziness washing over you, but you know one thing.
You aren’t going to make it to lunch.
The ringing in your ears is the first sign that you’re about to collapse; the black spots dancing across your vision is the second sign. You weakly raise your hand; an attempt to tell Professor McGonagall that you didn’t feel too good and could you please go see Madame Pomfrey.
All you hear before you collapse is Professor McGonagall’s shout.
--------------------------------------------------
Across the school, in a different study session, Harry grabs at his forehead hissing at the pain running through his head like a white-hot poker.
The pain had been there all day; making his mind fuzzy and distracting him from lessons and conversations but he was used to it. His scar always hurt but it was always manageable; always able to distract himself from its pain.
He knew what the pain meant; that the Dark Lord was trying to find him, trying to infiltrate his mind. It had never hurt this much though. He bites his lip as he thinks of his soulmate, distantly wondering what you would be feeling in this very moment.
The last thing he hears before he collapses are the shouts from Ron and Hermione.
---------------------------------------------------
You come too as Jenny lays you on the hospital bed. “Madame Pomfrey,” She calls, grabbing her attention, “(Y/N) collapsed in Transfiguration.”
Madame Pomfrey rushes over to your bed, checking your forehead for a temperature and shining her wand in your eyes. She tuts as you flinch away from the light. She dismisses Jenny before bustling to one of her cupboards for a pain potion for you, muttering something about this being her second case of students passing out today and she hoped it was her last. The last thing Madame Pomfrey wanted for mass fainting to spread through the school.
Hermione and Ron both watched you be carried in; not fully conscious but moaning in pain. Hermione’s eyes flicker between your bed and Harrys’ bed where you both holds hands to your forehead. Harry for his scar. You seemingly for a headache.
Hermione gasps as she makes the connection; they don’t call her the brightest witch of her age for nothing. She runs her eyes over Harry, checking over him and deciding that he’s well enough with Ron for her to step away for a minute.
She walks over to your bed, asking quietly, “Where exactly is your pain, (Y/N)?”
You point to the right side of your forehead; right where Harry’s scar placement is. “Ron,” Hermione calls, voice wavering somewhat, “I need to talk to you for a minute.”
Ron frowns, not wanting to leave Harry in this much pain but something in Hermione’s face has him going to her side without much of a second thought. They talk in whispers; Hermione gestures between the beds, Ron’s face turns incredulous as he looks you over – at the hand held to your forehead as if the pressure will stop the pain.
It clicks with you a moment later. Their expressions; the placement of your pain.
It was him.
He was your soulmate.
Harry Potter was your soulmate.
You pull yourself into sitting position, ignoring the wave of dizziness and nausea washing over you. Throwing your legs over the side of the hospital bed, you grit your teeth as you push yourself, so you’re stood up.
Ron comes to your side, asking if you need any help. You manage a small nod before gripping his arm for dear life. Ron leads you to Harry’s bed where he’s almost whimpering with the pain in his head.
Your heart breaks slightly at the sight of him tensed up, eyes screwed up in pain.
You flex your fingers before gently placing them on Harry’s head.
You sag at the immediate relief from the pain in your head, propping yourself up against Harry’s bed. His body relaxes into the bed, his breathing becoming more even.
“You’re-” Harry starts, blinking rapidly, swallowing, “You’re my soulmate.”
You smile down at him, enjoying the lack of pain for the moment, “I guess I am.”
Harry hums, “You’re hand feels nice.”
“I’m glad it does,” You drawl, “It’s nice not to be in pain.”
Harry frowns, sorrow reflected in his eyes, “I’m sorry about that. It’s my scar.”
“I know,” You say softly, running your hand through his messy hair in comfort, “At least we know how to stop it now.”
Harry nods, “I wonder why it works though; I didn’t think anything worked on curse scars.”
You frown, thinking back to your lesson on curses and their scars in Defence Against the Dark Arts, “Neither did I actually.”
“I have a theory,” Hermione pipes from her spot at the bottom of the bed where she’s watching the scene unfold in front of her, “Your scar comes from a place of hate. He isn’t able to feel love. The magic of the soulmate bond is larger than the dark magic that made your scar.”
“That makes a lot of sense.” You state, smiling at the brunette, “Thank you, Hermione.”
She shrugs, “It’ll be nice to have another girl in the group. As much as I like Quidditch, there’s only so much of it I can take.”
You smile at her, “I look forward to it.”
Hermione nods, turning to Ron whispering that they should leave now to let Harry and his soulmate have some peace. Harry’s in safe hands now. They both smile at you as they leave the hospital wing; happy that Harry’s found his soulmate.
Your attention falls back to Harry as he shuffles along the bed, making room for you. “If you think you’re going far, think again.”
You laugh softly, hopping onto the bed next to him, moving your hand from his forehead to hold his hand in yours. “How’s the pain now?” You quietly ask him.
Harry hums, knocking his foot against yours, “A lot better now. How’s yours?”
“Good. I’m feeling a lot better too.” You reply, knocking his foot with yours in retaliation.
You’re both quiet for a moment; enjoying the new painless existence. You bite your lip in response to the feeling of elation growing inside you; you had a soulmate and it was Harry Potter. You remember the promise you made to yourself when you first started to feel his pain over a year ago: you were going to try your very best that he would never feel this pain again, and if he did, you would always be there to lessen it.
Harry’s thumb rubs comforting circles over the back of your hand. You hum at the feeling of it; not knowing something could feel so good.
“I’m sorry,” He whispers, repeating his words from earlier, as if one apology was not nearly enough.
“What for?” You ask, puzzled.
“All the pain. I knew my soulmate would have to deal with a lot, so I want to apologise.”
You grip his hand tighter as if trying to covey your emotions through your touch, “It’s okay. At least we know we can stop the pain now.”
Harry smiles, “I don’t think I’ll be letting you out my sight now that I know who you are and that we don’t need to be in pain.”
You shuffle closer to him, if that’s at all possible on the small hospital bed. “I like the sound of that.” You murmur, “I don’t think I’ll be letting you out of my sight either; you have a knack for landing yourself in trouble.”
He laughs, “You’re right, I do.” He pauses, “I know that we’re soulmates, but I’d like to do this properly. Would you like to go to Hogsmeade with me this weekend?” He asks, a light blush dusting his cheeks.
“I’d love to.” You answer; savouring the smile that breaks across his face.
You let your head fall to his shoulder, shuffling into a comfier position. Harry becomes slightly brazen as he kisses the side of your head before putting his head on top of yours. For now, it was pure bliss to enjoy a painless moment.
The power of a simple touch could heal so much.

That’s My Wife
Harry Potter : Fic
Charlie x Reader
Word Count: 3049
Warnings: SEXY TALK! Charlie is just all over you and your quidditch uniform 😂 Also I know I keep using different gifs for Charlie fics... I just look up ‘hot ginger man’ and pick one I like 🥰
Request: “Hey could I have a story where you are Charlie Weasleys wife and a professional quidditch player? In goblet of fire when they go to the world cup instead of Ireland vs Krum it's your team versus Krum and Charlie is so proud to have Weasley on your uniform and is showing you off to everyone and idk I really just think of Charlie as a very proud guy but humble. Thanks so much!” - Anon
A/N: There’s nothing quite like having your husband be your biggest supporter, especially with the Quidditch World Cup fast approaching
Tumblr media
Shifting beneath the covers, (Y/N) sighed as her brain began to wake up. There were a number of thumps happening outside their bedroom and she groaned.
“Charlie?”
Thankfully, a hand came sneakily around her waist, pulling her to him, “What’s the point of apparating if we don’t even get to sleep in?”
“They’re excited,” (Y/N) replied in a quiet voice, keeping her eyes closed as she turned towards her husband, “And people are a bit careless when they’re tired.”
Footsteps could be heard going down the creaky stairs and (Y/N) peered behind Charlie to see that the moon was still basking their window. It had to have been nearly daybreak for the others to be up and about.
“I’ll have to get ready anyway,” she mumbled, resting back into Charlie’s embrace, “The team wants to do warmups and standard procedure before the majority of the crowds…”
Charlie suddenly held her tighter, silencing her with a grin, “Later, sweetheart – I won’t be able to see you all day. I want to hold you for a little while before you fly off.”
She couldn’t help the giggle that escape her with him cradling her against his chest. Though the World Cup was hours away, she knew her captain wouldn’t let her out of his sight until the game started. With the narrow win England made to be entered into the cup, there was immense pressure to deliver a swift and skillful victory for the team.
Being the rising star of “Quidditch Weekly,” there was a lot on (Y/N)’s shoulders to carry the team. It was that thought that began to swell within her when a sudden shout came from downstairs.
“George! What is that in your pocket?”
Charlie laughed low in his throat, his grisly morning voice doing it justice, “Looks like mum found those joke shop toffees.”
“Nothing!”
“Don’t you lie to me!”
(Y/N) took a deep breath, allowing Charlie’s natural scents relax her; worn leather, old newspaper, rain-soaked grass. She wasn’t quite sure what she was going to do without him giving her pep talks between penalty shots and time outs.
More than anything she wished he could be on the grounds with the referees instead of up in the stands.
With the anxiety filling her up as it usually did before a big game, she reached for his hand wrapped around her. Lacing their fingers together, she could feel him lean into her neck and plant a kiss behind her ear.
“You’re going to be incredible, sweetheart.”
She sighed into a smile, closing her eyes once more and allowing a few more moments of peace.
“Accio! Accio! Accio!” Came from downstairs, and she laughed out loud that time.

The sun crept higher and higher as the team lay on the pitch, doing stretches. Their captain Edric Vosper was pacing along the team benches.
“England hasn’t been a part of the Quidditch World Cup since 1981,” he intertwined his fingers in front of him, “And with us scraping that win against Transylvania last month… there’s too much at stake.”
“We know, Vosper,” came the voices of some of (Y/N)’s best friends – the beaters of the team, Dawn and Indira.
“We’ve had this same speech at every practice since that win,” (Y/N) added, smirking and straightening her arm braces, “I’m not sure there’s much else you can say to prepare us.” Her fellow chasers Avery and Keaton snickered behind their hands.
Vosper seemed at a loss of a comeback, finally sitting on one of the benches, “You’re right, of course. I just had a talk with Ludo Bagman and have basically every coin in my account betted for England being the winning team.”
“Why would you do that?” Dawn cried, slumping onto the grassy ground, “I’m worried enough about the game without knowing you’ll be broke if we lose.”
“And will probably have to crash at my place for the rest of the year,” Avery rolled his eyes.
Vosper put his face in his hands and took a deep breath, making the team all refrain from smiling sarcastically. (Y/N) stood and folded her arms, leaning forward slightly to speak.
“I say we take a break before the match starts – go enjoy some time with our families until the whistle blows.”
Keaton flexed his fingers, “Yeah, if I have to practice another quaffle pass I pretty sure my fingertips will snap.”
The team all laughed, evidently trying to make it as lighthearted as possible with the amount of pressure all nestled on their shoulders. (Y/N) secretly believed that a pep talk from all their close friends and family would motivate and improve the teams morale.
But she also knew that if she voiced that much of her opinion, then the players would just tease her about becoming the next great captain for the team. And she was too good of friends with Edric to make him doubt the authority of his position.
“Hey, guys, we’ve been practicing every day for weeks,” Indira stated, pulling a knee to her chest for a stretch. “Maybe enjoying our last meal with our families would relieve some stress.”
“Why are you saying it like we’ve all got death sentences? Our last meal?” Avery laughed, leaning over to push her away playfully.
She shrugged her shoulders, “Way to improve the mood, Hawksworth.”
The rest of the team laughed again, waiting for Vosper to lift his head from his hands. When he did he focused his attention to the opposing team across the quidditch pitch. The brutal Bulgarian team was conducting a number of routines with quaffle passes and snitch spotting.
They donned scarlet robes with black and gold lettering, which reminded (Y/N) of her Gryffindor house back at Hogwarts. It made her frown to see them arrogantly flashing those colors as they sped on their similarly tinted Firebolts.
Peering down at her own uniform, she relished in the bright white and complementary cherry red accents. The proud emblem of golden dragons blazoned the front and brought a fiery desire to beat Bulgaria with every bit of will power she had.
“I think we are over exhausting ourselves,” Vosper concluded, resting his elbows on his knees. “How about this – you all are free to do whatever you please until the match, as long as you deliver the Rowntree Counter.” He stared pointedly at (Y/N), saying, “If we can execute that as perfectly as you did with Transylvania, we’ll have this game in the bag.”
With slight hesitation, she gulped and nodded. She knew there were scouts in the crowd, recruiters that were looking for talent. If she could make a spotlight of their team, they could go far in quidditch history.
It was this thought that dwelled with her as she left the pitch and made her way through the crowds to find the tent grounds the Weasley’s had rented.
She quickly found herself distracted by numerous fans; now, with the sun newly risen and the mist lifting, she could see the city of tents that stretched in every direction. She made her way slowly through the rows, staring eagerly around.
Many of the campers were starting to wake up. First to stir were the families with small children; a tiny boy no older than two was crouched outside a large pyramid-shaped tent, holding a wand and poking happily at a slug in the grass, which was swelling slowly to the size of a salami.
“Excuse me, miss,” came a timid voice nearby, “Are you (Y/N) Weasley?”
She turned her shoulder and saw a young girl and boy standing on their tip toes and wringing their hands excitedly.
“Yes, ma’am, that’s me.”
“The chaser for England’s National team?” the boy added on, somewhat disregarding her previous response.
(Y/N) peered down at her uniform and shrugged her shoulders, “I’m pretty sure that’s what my robes say.”
There was a squeal behind her, and then another and another. Whispers, then shouts, began appearing all around her as exclamations said:
“Is that…?”
“Mum! It’s the England chaser!”
“She was on the cover of Quidditch Weekly yesterday.”
“Do you think I could get a signature?”
“Wait… (Y/N) Weasley?”
“I don’t have a quill… would she mind using my body paint?”
And it was twenty minutes before she was able to extract herself from the growing crowd. She had signed robes, arms, books, tents, and English flags with everything from paint to lipstick. There was even a little girl that bought a miniature figurine of (Y/N) that padded along her palm, even laughing the same full body laugh that (Y/N) usually did, which she signed the back of.
She had to apologize to everyone as she pushed through, saying she’d like to get to her family before the day was through. It didn’t stop the stares, gasps, and waves, but she was grateful for not being followed as closely anymore.
A short way farther on, she saw two little witches, who were riding toy broomsticks that rose only high enough for the girls’ toes to skim the dewy grass. Here and there adult wizards and witches were emerging from their tents to claim a breakfast. Some, with furtive looks around them, conjured fires with their wands; others were striking matches with dubious looks on their faces, as though sure this couldn’t work.
As she neared the other side of the fields, she noticed the colors changing drastically from black and scarlet to white and cherry. This new patch of tents were all covered with thick clusters of dragon themed décor; blue, red, and white flags flew all around the campers. Dragon kites, dragon statues, dragon emblems, dragon puppets, and even dragon hide was covering most other surfaces.
It really showed the loyalty, as well as the increase of more fans trying to get her attention. One began waving a moving poster of herself crossing her arms and smiling broadly. But just beyond she noticed the exact family she was looking for.
“Charlie!”
One of the redheads sitting around the morning fire stood and whipped around to see who was calling for him. When he spotted his beloved, he called out, urging her forward.
The nearer she got, she noticed that it wasn’t just the Weasley’s, Harry, and Hermione – Ludo Bagman and Mr. Barty Crouch were there too.
“I thought you were going to be on the pitch all day!” Charlie cried, reaching her and pulling her into a bone-crushing hug. “I wasn’t expecting to see you until after the game.”
She giggled happily as he lifted her enough that she was on her toes, “We convinced Vosper that we could use a break to gather our senses.” She nuzzled into his shoulder as they continued to hold each other close – that calming smell of rainfall and old, weathered book pages whelmed her again.
Charlie moved a hand to the side of her face where he could direct her attention to his eyes, “God, you’re so beautiful.”
She smiled, her eyes suspicious, “Even in this sweaty updo?”
“What can I say? I can’t resist a woman in uniform.” He gave her a seductive gaze and bit his lip, leaning his forehead against hers.
She moved her hands up his torso and around his neck, sighing deep in her chest, “Not until I knock Bulgaria on their ass.”
Charlie closed his eyes and breathed deeply, “You just got a whole lot sexier.” And he practically growled as he dipped for a kiss, a hungry kiss. The intensity took (Y/N) slightly off guard, accidentally pulling a moan out of her.
“Okay, woah, woah!” came the boisterous voices of Fred and George, “Lock it up, this isn’t your honeymoon.”
They could hear Ginny laughing with Bill, and Percy was muttering things like, “Right in front of Mr. Crouch,” under his breath.
“Now, Charlie,” Mr. Weasley stated in a nervously loud tone, “We’ve got guests.”
(Y/N) had to be the one to pull away, finding her breath was taken away by the moment. Charlie grinned and waved a hand over his shoulder.
“Paparazzi,” she muttered, “We’re surrounded by witnesses.”
“It would be ridiculous to hide my feelings for you, (Y/N). Why shouldn’t the public know we have a perfectly wonderful marriage.” He held her by her shoulders, “I’m proud to have you by my side, so what if the Daily Prophet knows we kiss… guess what? We’re married!”
She couldn’t help but laugh, “Still I’d like to keep a few things… hello!” Behind Charlie’s shoulder she could see the entire Weasley family, and guests, watching them closely.
Charlie twirled around and put an arm around (Y/N), “Mr. Crouch, Ludo – may I introduce my wife, (Y/N) Weasley. THE best chaser that England has known these last few years.”
Ludo Bagman, a jolly man with rosy cheeks and a boyish charm, stood immediately and came to shake hands, “An introduction long overdue I’m sure you feel as well. You know I’ve got a pretty penny on your head to get England the win tonight.”
“Us too,” Fred yelled over the many heads, “So don’t fall off your broom.”
“Oh, you’ve seen nothing until you’ve seen (Y/N) play on the pitch,” Charlie stated, leaning towards the group, “She’s like a snitch herself, whipping through the air.”
“Yes,” agreed Ludo, “The biggest hope England has had in over a decade.”
Charlie beamed, moving his loving gaze to his wife. He simply stood there admiring the praise and talent, silently wondering how it was possible she had chosen him to be her husband.
“Thank you, Mr. Bagman,” (Y/N) replied, “Though you should look at England as the team it is – I’m just one person; it takes all of us to win the cup.”
Charlie grinned even wider if it was possible. Admiration wasn’t enough to describe how in awe he was of her. It was like she was in total denial that she was plainly the one carrying the national team. Though it was incredibly endearing and only made him more in love with the fact that she was with him.
“Oh, please, don’t neglect your talents,” Ludo exclaimed, “We all know you were the one that got the qualification from the Transylvania win!”
“Even with that illegal shot by the bludger,” Ron interjected, sneaking the rest of Hermione’s breakfast sausages, “Those scheming, biased referees.”
Bill clapped his hands together, “This is exactly the problem, if we can’t find the right people to observe the field, then what’s the point of having good players? They’ll be disregarded completely with a biased referee!”
And the family continued the conversation of the prospects of the upcoming game. Percy and Mr. Weasley tried to continue remarks with Mr. Crouch before he left and shortly followed by Bagman.
And all Charlie could do was stare at his wife and wonder… wonder how he got so lucky.
~~~
She could hear the sounds of thousands of people moving around them, shouts and laughter, snatches of singing. The atmosphere of feverish excitement was highly infectious; Dawn and Avery couldn’t stop grinning.
The roaring voice of Ludo Bagman could be heard magically magnified across the sea of people.
“Ladies and gentlemen… welcome! Welcome to the final of the four hundred and twenty-second Quidditch World Cup!”
The spectators screamed and clapped. Thousands of flags waved, adding their discordant national anthems to the racket. A huge blackboard opposite them showed BULGARIA: 0, ENGLAND: 0.
After a presentation of entrancing Veela and a few soaring dragon fireworks, Ludo began to announce the Bulgarian quidditch team members; next came England.
“Presenting – Vosper, Frisby, Choudry, Withey, Flitney, Hawksworth, and Weasley!”
Seven gleaming robed players came whizzing out of the stands on white golden Firebolts. The Weasley family cheered and shook their top box voraciously.
“That’s her, that’s her!” yelled Charlie, waving his English flag and pushing into Bill and Ron. His brother followed her with his Omnioculars.
“Theeeeeeeey’re OFF!” screamed Bagman. “And it’s Weasley! Hawksworth! Flitney! Dimitrov! Back to Weasley! Hawksworth! Levski! Flitney!”
The speed of the players was incredible – the chasers were throwing the quaffle to one another so fast that Bagman only had time to say their names. Charlie reached over to fight Ron’s Omnioculars off him but failed as he heard the name Weasley again.
The chasers had fallen into their Rowntree Counter, their signature move. They flew into a straight dive as red, white, and blue colors came streaming out of the back of their brooms – signifying the flag of the United Kingdom.
They knocked two of the opposing Bulgarian players teetering on their brooms and distracted the beaters. Flitney passed the quaffle to Hawksworth, who kicked it around before passing it back to Weasley.
(Y/N) did a magnificent overhead kick into the hoop on the far left.
“WEASLEY SCORES!” roared Bagman, and the stadium shuddered with a roar of applause and cheers. “Ten zero to England!”
Charlie jumped and waved his arms, screaming himself hoarse, “THAT’S MY WIFE! WEASLEY IS MY WIFE!”
Bill reached over and stuffed his UK flag over Charlie’s face to shut him up, and Ginny laughed, giving him her white and red rosette.
(Y/N) did a lap of honor around the field and threw a kiss towards the top box where Charlie waved his hands toward her, “I love you, baby!”
The England chasers were superb. They worked as a seamless team, their movements so well coordinated that they appeared to be reading one another’s minds as they positioned themselves, and the rosette now on Charlie’s chest kept squeaking their names: “Flitney – Weasley – Hawksworth!” And within ten minutes, England had scored twice more, bringing their lead to thirty-zero and causing a thunderous tide of roars and applause from the white-clad supporters.
Charlie watched as (Y/N) performed miraculous moves toward the goal posts. The continuous overhead kicks, the usage of the butt-end of her broom like a beater bat, and the intense throw of her arm was mesmerizing.
Charlie yelled and screamed until his face turned red, shouting his praise for his wife. The other members in the top box had to accept the fact that Charlie wasn’t going to shut up about his incredible player on the field.
It was just a continuous strain of, “THAT’S MY WIFE!” with a splendid look of pride and admiration on his cheery face.
“WEASLEY IS MY WIFE!”
hello! do you have any fantasy/historical jungkook x reader fic recs ?
hello lovely!! i’m so sorry i missed this yesterday :( i was actually planning on reorganizing my tumblr because i feel like no fics are ever going to be able to be found my blog LOL so hopefully that’ll be done soon!!
as for the fantasy/historical fics.. i’m honestly not too sure what “fantasy” (do demons count..? soulmates..? werewolves????) typically includes so i’m just going to include a bunch of fics that hopefully fit in :”) here are the first ones that i thought of + summaries included in their main posts!
also.. i’m sure i missed a lot of amazing fics (mainly because i’m dumb as hell and don’t really know what can be included in “fantasy”) and would like to apologize in advance!!
@inktae ’s entire masterlist (they have a lot of fantasy fics!)
while this isn’t just jungkook recs, @ficswithluv had a fantasy category a few weeks ago!
énouement - @littlemisskookie Mulan!AU
War is Hell, but it’s what you had to do to take your brother’s place. Of course, between the days of Hell are little slices of Heaven you’d call your Captain, Jeon Jungkook.
midas - @gukyi
jeon jungkook was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and the power to turn whatever he wants into pure gold. you were born with healing and invisibility powers but without a cent to your name. so when you’re plucked off of the streets for pickpocketing and assigned to be his minder as punishment, you realize you’re going to have to overcome a lot more than class differences if either of you are going to get what you want.
i will not lose! - @jimlingss Magic!AU
A single bet - use every means to make Jeon Jungkook fall in love with you.
a piece of the moonlight - @/jimlingss Mulan!AU
For your loved ones, the people who are waiting at home, the people who have died - you will fight. And sometimes to fight means to sacrifice: who you really are and the person you really love.
dynasty - @/jimlingss Historical!AU
It’s no secret that the Emperor is infertile. But even so, a girl is selected every three months and brought to become his concubine in hopes of conceiving the next heir. This time, it’s you. And in order to prevent execution, Jeon Jungkook might just aid you in conception.
game of temptation ft. knj, myg, kth - @/jimlingss Succubus!AU
As a succubus, your beauty is unrivaled and shaped to tempt mortals. But it’s still hard to resist Taehyung, and there’s little you can do once you’ve been coerced to do his bidding for him. This time, you find yourself entering the affluent Kim Household as a housemaid. And these poor humans don’t know your intentions are far from being angelic.
knot today - @kinktae
(IDK IF WEREWOLVES COUNT BUT JERHFBDSKNZX THIS IS REALLY GOOD!!)
When your first heat approaches and you are left partnerless, who better to turn to than your alpha roommate that you’ve spent the better half of your life hiding your feelings for?
ego - @luxekook Harry Potter!AU
(..i also don’t know if HP counts LOL)
in which jeongguk is a cocky lil shit and the reader has to take him down a few pegs
stumbling - @hayjeon Prince!AU
an ask in their inbox regarding the prompt: hii! so the royal wedding of prince harry and meghan is today, and since my bias is JK and since i’m such a sucker for royal stuff, can i reuest a fic of bts all being royal of 7 different kingdom, and all of them being invited to jin’s wedding and the girl (oc) is also invited and kookie met her there, and eventually took an interest at her? the girl is also royalty from other kingdom. thanks!
werewolf!jungkook - @/hayjeon
an ask in their inbox regarding the prompt: Werewolf!jk? (im sorry ik it’s overused and unoriginal) where he and his mate have pups to take care of and they’re quite a mischievous bunch!
there for you - @cupofteaguk Hogwarts!AU
Jungkook is always known for doing things unapologetically, and it makes sense given how almost nothing gets under his skin—almost nothing, but maybe there’s an exception that takes a form of a muggleborn with the shy smile and quirky spells.
say you won’t let go - @/cupofteaguk Soulmates!AU
You’ve been eighteen years old for ten years when Jungkook first moves in
new romantics - @/cupofteaguk Hogwarts!AU
Jeon Jungkook will go down in history as one of the best Quidditch players that ever graced the Hogwarts scene. It seems like he always gets what he wants—his life is very predictable in that sense. What he cannot predict, however, is the newest weekend employee wiping down the tables at the Three Broomsticks.
a cinderella story - @suhdays Modern Cinderella!AU
you are forced to work multiple jobs as you live under your stepmothers roof. unable to move out and strive for complete independence, you do what you can in order save enough. turns out, as a college student that is harder than you thought. so, you distract yourself by joining online chat groups in which you meet a boy that goes to your school. that boy? none other than the rugby star himself, jeon jeongguk. it doesn’t prove to be an issue until he asks to meet you at an upcoming halloween party. he’s never noticed you before so why not hide yourself in order to live your dreams, if only for a moment?
explorer - @1kook Alien!AU
Jungkook does not want to impress the frankly tyrannical ways of his planet on you. He just wants to stay here and keep your couch warm for you, hold your hair back when you wash your face in the morning.
rottenfolk - @junqkook Faerie!AU
a look was as hazardous as chemicals, a kiss as perilous as poison; his eyes and lips felt akin to a cure, but he was purely venom.
the young wolf - @/junqkook Game of Thrones!AU
he was promised to another, meant for another to hold and to love and to kiss. but when his hand lingered on yours for a moment too long to be proper, and when his eyes held yours for a beat too long to be a passing glance, you allowed desire to creep into your veins, to take root inside your heart. perhaps before you might have been permitted to love him freely. perhaps he might have even been promised to you instead. but war was no place for the wants and desires of two people, no matter how much they yearned for it to be.
the lighthouse - @rubycoast S2L!AU
(im not too sure if this is considered fantasy but its one of my favs!)
you and jungkook had one thing in common: you were both lost souls stagnant in the search of some fulfillment. the one of many differences was that your story had been written on your sleeves, while jungkook’s was a story needed to be unriddled.
black magic - @hansolmates Magic Uni!AU
a witch with an ambition for learning, you stumble across a crushing spell in the middle of the forbidden section. of course you have to try it out! what happens when the crushing spell not only has jeon jungkook crushing on you, but you crushing on him?
the sea & the storm - @jamaisjoons Fantasy!AU
the sea is a powerful mistress. she is calm and beautiful. she is mysterious and alluring. she is a force to be reckoned with. above all, however, she is lonely. until she meets him. fantasy au.
the lionheart’s oath - @sugaxjpg Knight & Princess!AU
There was no happy ending, no dragon slayer to save the kingdom and get the princess — there was only him: Jungkook. A simple orphan that was lucky enough to be invited into the castle, a former homeless thief that had found shelter in the form of an elysian heir. Now, after twelve years by your side, he was about to lose you to the world you sought to explore.
ghosts just wanna have fun - @/sugaxjpg Psychic & MedSchool!AU
When Jungkook discovered that he could communicate with dead people, the last thing he expected was that they would be there to give him romantic advice.
wartime child - @ktheist Wizard!AU
raising a baby in wartime isn’t easy. but when your baby starts showing signs of magical abilities, you’re forced to ring up the only other person you know he takes after: jeon jungkook.
birth of an empress - @/ktheist Dragon Slayer!AU
partners for three years and friends for longer, jungkook thought you’d remain so until he saw you with the knight at the merchant’s trade.
alternatively, the friendly neighborhood wizard trying to propose to the infamous dragon slayer in the middle of slaying a dragon? now, that’s classic.
series/two shots!
fear in your eyes - @/gukyi Werewolf!AU
(again, idk if werewolves count but hifksdjcx !!!!)
there’s a werewolf in that forest behind your house, they told you, and he’ll eat you before you can even beg for mercy.
heyy this might be a LONG post but I was just wondering if you could tell me what's wrong with harry potter in overall? like, the mauraders' era, jkr's worldbuilding, severus snape, the unacknowledged grey areas, the red flags that are ignored. I think you're one of the best analysers of harry potter and actually give evidence to support what you say. thank you!!
Hi there!
There are many aspects I really like about the HP books. I think some of the ideas and concepts are genius. I really think what JKR did with the ‘magic’ of love and friendship and with the selfishness of the hunger for power and immortality is really very good. I think that the horcruxes were a brilliant idea. As are the patronusses, the dementors, the concept of the unforgivable, of how intent comes into it etc.
I also would say that she has invented great and interesting characters. Characters whose flaws drive the plot. Harry’s saviour complex that drives him to try to safe Sirius for example, Ron’s uncertainty that makes him leave Harry and his friendship twice, Hermione’s rationality that is an asset but occasionally also a hindrance (like when she doesn’t take Luna serious at first). There are some very likeable characters. Neville and Luna are my favs. I think Dumbledore and Snape are very interesting and even compelling characters (although I do not like them very much).
Then there is the fact that she wrote how the specific brand of classism she invented for HP (pureblood vs. muggles and muggleborn) is present throughout the entire society. There is the extreme end of the people who want muggleborns to be no better than muggles but there are also the so-called tolerant people that still have a condescending attitude towards the people that they think are inferior. I think it is actually an acute and interesting observation.
So, besides all my misgivings about JKR I find her world very interesting to explore and play with. I basically write HP fanfiction to address some of the things that are never addressed in canon - like the ever present prejudice against  muggles and muggleborns and things like that.
The main problem with her characters and the classism in wizarding society is that it might be a good set-up, but it is not written as such. And that is actually where the problems start. And since this is quite a lot I put it under the cut.
You know all the grey characters should be acknowledged as such, but they are not. Harry is basically a good character, but he has his flaws and Hermione can be so focused on her ends that she can be downright vicious (and ruthless). Draco Malfoy stays a bad character, and the one time when he actually shows a conscience and refrains from killing, JKR says it’s cowardice. (sry, not sry, JKR, choosing not to kill Dumbledore to save himself and his mother is not cowardice). Harry uses unforgivables in his quest to destroy Voldemort (and I don’t blame him for it, but it should be addressed not just told and brushed off). The pranks of the Weasley twins are questionable to say the least. The characters are presented and talked about as ‘good’ vs. ‘evil’ and yet they are all grey (and actually interesting for that reason).
Then there is the fact that by the end of the book only the very extreme classists are defeated and otherwise “Everything was well”. No, JKR, it is not all well. Harry, Hermione and Ron basically become part of the system! Again it could have been written as a really thorough analysis of how classism shapes the whole society, how extremists are enabled by the unspoken bias, how it is even a struggle after the extremists have been defeated. But the way is it written it actually gives the impression that there is something like a ‘good classist society’. Harry is basically the good English aristocrat. You know the kind of English nobleman who inspires the loyalty of his butler, who is nice to the working class. Someone who shows that the system works if its just the right people who are at the top. I don’t think that is the right message.
So, she describes a grey world, but explicitly things are only black and white. The deeds of the Gryffindors are good, the deeds of the Slytherins are bad.
Another thing that somehow does not sit right with me is the way JKR handles paralles and tropes. I still think that Draco could have been made into an excellent parallel of Regulus (and that Dramione could have been an excellent parallel to Severus / Lily in the marauder’s area). Of course there is no obligation to fulfill tropes, but it would have been a possibility. And I just have the feeling that she does not handle tropes that well. Take the ‘statute of secrecy’. That is actually a huge Checkov’s gun imho. And it is never fired. Crookshanks is set up to be special - and nothing ever comes of it.
Then there is the whole problem with “tell, don’t show” and the character who is affected the most by this is James Potter. We never see James doing nice things (imho preventing Snape from being killed by his friend after he was set up to be murdered could have been a major turning point for James, but he doesn’t change his behaviour afterwards). He could have had a redemption arc, but he doesn’t get one. We are just told about this. James is an entitled prat, rich, arrogant and from what we see of him, he is completely unlikeable, but we are told that he is cool and good, just because he joined the order. We actually see Sirius and Remus doing some good stuff at least, but James is completely unsatisfactory (and I honestly don’t get the whole marauders’ hype). I believe I would have absolutely hated that gang of boys if I had been to the same school.
Another problem is that some of the characters are just too cliché. I would argue that Hermione is a bit more than “not like other girls”, but Ginny clearly is. Fleur and Lavender are the feminine girls who are painted as vain and stupid (and Pansy is mean on top). I probably shouldn’t even begin with how Cho Chang is depicted, because not only did JKR made no effort with her name, she also fits right into clichés. And JKR hates ‘girly girls’. Her feminism is not inclusive. Considering when she wrote it is still good that she has so many and different female characters though and one thing that seems to be o.k. in the wizarding world is that I don’t get many sexism vibes (apart from the cliché girly girls)
There are also anti-Irish stereotypes. Seamus Finnigan blows everything up, and sort of the Irish coded Weasleys are red-haired, freckled, poor and disregard authority (apart from Percy who is the typical social climber).
Then there are the Goblins whose description is rich in antisemitic codes. Greedy moneylenders, unreliable, hawk nosed....
Severus Snape also ticks some boxes for antisemitism. Black hair, moody, hawk nosed, not really part of society, intelligent and clever, but never belonging, an outsider, not a ‘gentleman’ (like Harry is).
Then don’t let me get started on the elves! They like to be slaves. They like to be slaves. Again. They like to be slaves. How is that not fucked up.
Another point is lazy world-building. If you have one school for Britain and one for France, and one for Scandinavia, why not two for Germany and Switzerland, why not at least  5 for the USA, China should have 30 schools. Let it make sense. I sometimes wish JKR would have just admitted, that she just thought about Britain and that she has no idea how the rest of the world handles the education of wizards and witches. Why not let her fans fill the gaps?
Then there is also the fact that she couldn’t commit even to the one character she actively admitted that he is grey: Severus Snape. I do think that she concentrated so hard on having the readers doubt his loyalty - which is definitely one of the major plot points of the series, if not the major plot twist, that she did not make enough of an effort to let it make sense. We learn a lot about Severus Snape but we do not learn why he joined the death eaters. We learn that he saw it as a mistake later and tried to atone but we don’t know what reason made him do it. Did he want to be protected? Did he thirst for knowledge? Did he as a halfblood really believe in pureblood ideas?
The other thing is also that the doubt about Severus Snape’s loyalty is so important that other characters suffer for it.
There is only one thing, I don’t really blame JKR for. The fact that Dumbledore is gay and that she did not write that explicitly. At the time she wrote, childrens books were actually forbidden to have openly homosexual characters. She had to write Dumbledore as a closeted gay or she would have had to relabel her books. This is actually one decision I don not lay at her door.
But as you see there are plenty of things I had to say. You are welcome to ask about some of the aspects in detail (and that would probably induce me to another rant).
Sorry, it took me so long to answer. I had a rather busy time!
Thanks for the ask!
A Discussion About Dramione
This is a very difficult ship in the HP fandom, alongside others like Drarry etc.
However, I think there is something to be said for it regardless, since I’ve seen a lot of anti-Dramione content with some valid points and a lot of non valid ones too, so I suppose I’d like a try my hand at rebuking some of them.
1. Dramione shippers romanticize abuse and bullying.
At first glance, it certainly looks that way. Draco Malfoy was a racist, petty, spoiled bully that jumped on every opportunity to bully Hermione Granger and her friends. He is not a good character. In the Dramione fandom, no one claims he is a good character either. Instead, the Dramione fandom recognized the canon potential for change in Draco and uses that to shape their fanfics. The largest majority of the fandom (There do exist those really young fans that don’t quite yet understand everything that will blindly defend him or create extremely problematic fanart, but they are truly a minority) acknowledges entirely all the wrongs Draco has committed, and they are many. Actually, in most Dramione fics, the writers go to great lengths to process the part of DHr’s past that was filled with hatred and insults. You can find examples of this in the fic Measure of a Man by @inadaze22. Also to the point, most of Dramione fanfiction is written and set in a time many years after the War, after their school years, where they’ve both grown, matured and become adults, changed by time and what they went through, so it is a null point to say Dramione shippers romanticize bullying when their content is almost always set in a time where Draco is no longer a bully and Hermione is no longer a victim.
What the Dramione shippers like to emphasize is the fact that even though Draco used to be a horrible person, he had changed and grown past that, owned up to his mistakes and is now a different man. That’s what the stories they write are about. He had the potential to change already established in canon that he used later through his life to become someone better Hermione could eventually forgive and love.
You’ll be hard pressed to find a Dramione shipper that would say that while they were still in school they should’ve gotten together. Absolutely not. The content most of the Dramione fandom creates is always set post-canon, at a time where Draco’s changed and grown up from who he used to be, and Hermione recognizes his change and forgives him.
She certainly doesn’t have to forgive him, she doesn’t owe him anything, but part of Hermione’s bravery and overall character is that she would have been able to forgive him when she realized he’d changed. Plus, he saved her best friend’s life at a critical point in the war and, even though he did nothing to help her because he literally couldn’t have, which is something I’m pretty sure Hermione would have been grateful for, even a little bit.
The Malfoy family saved Harry’s life TWICE in HP, in both extremely critical moments in the war (Draco lying at the manor, Narcissa lying to Voldemort), which is something Hermione wouldn’t have been able to just ignore and pretend like it never happened, because that’s not who she is.
There probably is a very small percent of the Dramione fandom who create problematic content, but every fandom and every ship has toxic shippers, besides they are simply not the majority.
2. Dramione shippers use Hermione to redeem Draco.
The redemption arc Draco got in HP is extremely flimsy at best, especially considering the amount of damage he’d done prior. He saved Harry’s life, yes, but he did nothing to protect either Ron or Hermione, so personally I wouldn’t harp on about that being much of a redemption arc at all. However, I don’t think any Dramione shippers use Hermione to redeem him. In the Dramione content the things he did wrong and the hurt he inflicted is something Hermione recognizes and then, through the story, eventually chooses to leave behind. Besides, she doesn’t have to redeem him, since we know from canon he’d grown out of his beliefs eventually, privately at least if not publicly (more on this later).
3. Draco had a choice in how to act, if he really didn’t believe in blood supremacy.
No, he didn’t. Let me break it down why.
When he was 11 years old and first coming to Hogwarts, he was too young to understand the beliefs his parents ingrained into him were wrong and harmful, he simply didn’t have the mental capacity to comprehend that. He was a child that hung to every word their mom and dad said and he acted accordingly.
As he grew up though, started going through puberty and maturing, he would’ve realized that blood supremacy is wrong. Let’s say this realization came when he was 14. Lucius and Narcissa weren’t with him at Hogwarts, so if he changed his behavior to reflect his new realizations, they wouldn’t have known, right?
WRONG.
Do you really mean to tell me that if Draco Malfoy, only son and sole heir to the Malfoy family, an extremely wealthy, influential family in the Wizarding World and its politics, part of the sacred 28, well respected and with a high status in society, suddenly started being kinder and friendlier to Muggleborns and Halfbloods, people wouldn’t talk? People wouldn’t wonder, get suspicious? That such news wouldn’t reach his father, who’s got eyes and ears everywhere (evident by the fact he was able to bribe someone in Hogwarts to buy his son a position on the Quidditch team). And how do you think Lucius Malfoy, a devout Death Eater, would have reacted to receiving such news? What do you think would have happened to Draco when he came home that summer?
Draco was never abused and I doubt Lucius would start then, but I am positive he would’ve been disowned, for betraying the values his family had upheld for centuries. Lucius is a staunch blood purist and he absolutely would cut all contact with his son (disown him) when news reached him Draco was making nice with Muggleborns and Halfbloods.
And Draco knew this, he knew how strict his father was, he knew how deeply he believed in blood supremacy and he knew the consequences for stepping out of line and being anything less than the perfect son.
What would a 14-year old kid do being disowned? Homeless essentially?
So, even if he had realized the wrongs of his beliefs and renounced them, he couldn’t have done that publicly, and certainly not with Hermione Granger or Harry Potter much less, seeing as Harry Potter is the nemesis of the man his father believes in.
By the time he reaches 15 and 16, Voldemort is already at full power again and living in Draco’s house. Now things get even worse. After Lucius fails to get the Prophecy in the Department of Mysteries, Voldemort decides he has to punish him for his failure by having Draco take the Dark Mark. By this point, Draco had abandoned ideas of blood supremacy, but at this point, what the fuck is he going to do? Refuse The Dark Lord? The Darkest Wizard in all of Wizarding History? The guy who is living in his house AND holds the lives of him AND his entire family hostage? Who could and would murder Draco’s mother and father and Draco himself if Draco disobeyed? The man who murdered a person right on Draco’s kitchen table and had Nagini swallow them whole?
Even if all of that wasn’t true, and it is, how’s a 16 year old kid going to fight off a house full of seasoned Death Eaters, proficient at the Dark Arts who will use Unforgivables on him, plus Voldemort himself, plus a giant terrifying snake?
At that point, Draco is left with literally zero choice but to take the Mark and obey his mission to murder Dumbledore.
He hatches several plots to kill Dumbledore, all of which fail. When they stand at the Astronomy tower, even Dumbledore himself calls all of his plots halfhearted and weak. Dumbledore offers him help, but Draco is very clear in his regret of the things he’d done and the fact there’s no going back now.
‘I have to do this, I have to kill you, or he’s gonna kill me.’
AND
‘What do you know about me? I’ve done things that would shock you.’
(I’m paraphrasing here, these aren’t the exact quotes).
At which point Snape shows up and kills Dumbledore in Draco’s place because of the Vow he made to Narcissa.
Any way you look at it, he really didn’t have any choice, even if he did at some point during school renounce his beliefs and grow past them.
4. He tried to kill Ron.
I’ve seen antis blame Draco for this one, which is a bit ridiculous. He did not. He had madam Rosmerta poison a bottle of wine, which he sent to Horace Slughorn, hoping Slughorn would pass it onto Dumbledore. Filch hadn’t noticed any traces of poison in it, because he is a Squib, he also didn’t doubt a shipment from Rosmerta, and so he just gave it to Slughorn. Slughorn kept it around and then later he was the one to offer Ron a glass of that wine. In Draco’s plan, Ron wasn’t ever even mentioned nor included in any way. It had been an unlucky coincidence for Ron, and Draco couldn’t have possibly known that Slughorn would hold onto the wine, that Ron would ever be around Slughorn OR that Slughorn would offer Ron that same wine. Sufficed to say, Draco never attempted to murder Ronald Weasley.
5. He did nothing while Bellatrix tortured Hermione.
We’ve been over this, what could he have done? He had saved Harry’s life earlier, but that one lie couldn’t of spared Ron or Hermione, their faces were too recognizable, even if Harry’s wasn’t.
A room full of Death Eaters, some of the cruelest, most dangerous ones mind you (Bellatrix Lestrange) and he’d be 17, if I remember correctly, still not even an adult, plus at this point in the war even more powerless (considering the fact the Malfoys had fallen out of favor with Voldemort, evident by the fact Lucius tells Draco that if they deliver Harry Potter to Voldemort, all would be forgiven).
What did you expect him to do? Leap into battle and try to fend off dozens of Death Eaters, effectively betraying the Dark Lord in the process and single-handedly getting his entire family killed, if not even himself?
Would you have done that? No, of course not.
6. Draco Malfoy is not redeemable.
Now Draco’s “redemption arc”, if it can be called that, is a powerful moment but it’s flimsy. JK didn’t really ever intend for him to be redeemed or liked either, but let’s take a look at it anyways.
It is canon that Draco stopped believing in blood supremacy at some point during their school years, though we can’t know exactly when.
How can I say this, when his behavior never indicated that?
Well, I’ve already been over why he couldn’t have suddenly changed his behavior, now let’s go through how I can claim it is canon.
The scene where Draco lies to everyone about Harry’s identity.
That moment could only exist IF Draco didn’t believe in blood supremacy anymore.
Think about it, if Draco was devout to Voldemort and his beliefs like his father, he would have had no problem or conscience to tell everyone ‘Yes, this is Harry Potter, hand him over.’ It would have been favorable to him if Harry died.
And let’s be clear, if Draco had said the truth in that moment, Harry would have died. He was captured, wandless (his is broken, when they escape the Manor he steals Draco’s), Ron and Hermione captured as well, he was entirely helpless and surrounded by powerful Dark Arts wizards and witches who would lead him directly to Voldemort the moment they got confirmation it was indeed him and that would have been it. Voldemort would have killed him. Voldemort would have won.
But that isn’t what happened.
Draco looked at Harry, recognized it was him (evident by a later scene where Harry straight up says that. “Why didn’t you tell her? Bellatrix? You knew it was me, you didn’t say anything.”) and at first, still unsure what to do, asked why Harry’s face was like that, and he’s told Harry just came in like that.
Draco says “I’m not sure.”
At that point Lucius grips him and tells him that if they gave up Harry Potter to Voldemort all would be forgiven, Bellatrix brings him closer to get a second look.
Draco knows all the consequences of what he’s doing at this point, he knows what he’s risking, the literal lives of everyone he loves, and what does he do?
He still lies.
‘I can’t be sure.’
It’s a powerful moment for his character, BUT it’s not enough for redemption. The amount of pain and hatred he’d spewed for 6 years (I say 6 years because The Golden Trio wasn’t attending Hogwarts for year 7) is not redeemed by this one instance. His actions, letting Death Eaters into Hogwarts, likely torturing people on command of the Carrows in 7th year, are not redeemed by this moment, even if he did save Harry’s life.
However, though this instance doesn’t constitute redemption, it is telling of the fact Draco has changed, and changed significantly from the hateful, angry, spoiled, racist brat he used to be, which gives him potential to grow up into a different, better man.
Whether JK intended it or not, the way that was written makes Draco Malfoy more than redeemable, if not for the duration of the books, then later through his life.
Being a horrible person at one point in your life does not make you forever evil, does not mean you can not ever change. To prove this, I’d like to humbly request you to watch this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSH5EY-W5oM
Voldemort’s regime is very similar to Hitler’s Nazi movement, so this video is very fitting to my point and HP in general.
Here’s another three:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORp3q1Oaezw
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fw0vS0qvYo0&list=TLPQMTcxMjIwMjBZfqJdkbbQJw&index=2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4gly9n9RBo&list=TLPQMTcxMjIwMjBZfqJdkbbQJw&index=3
If you don’t have time to watch, let me sum it up for you.
The first video chronicles the story of a man who’d been part of the Neo-Nazi movement, managed to leave it behind and become an activist and overall an amazing guy now.
The other three links chronicle the story of Daryl Davis, a black man who’d attended KKK rallies and even met with the Imperial Wizard of the KKK Roger Kelly, somehow despite all odds became friends with him and eventually managed to get through to Roger Kelly to the point where this man (The leader of the KKK on a national scale) stepped down from his position and left the Ku Klux Klan.
That’s real life, something like that happened, truly happened, but Draco Malfoy is irredeemable?
PLUS, Draco is hardly the first case like this.
Take James Potter as an example. James was also a rich, racist, privileged white boy, and a bully. He’d bullied Snape severely, even set up a “prank” with his friends that would lead to Snape getting attacked by a WEREWOLF, putting him in mortal peril, with great potential of killing him, that required then a rescue operation.
James attempted murder, or if you don’t want to go that far, he set up a situation that quite possibly could have gotten someone killed, and he got to mature and grow past his behaviors and redeem himself, fall in love with Lily and have a wonderful son.
Why couldn’t Draco change when James had?
~
In conclusion, I think there’s a big diifference between what the Dramione fandom actually is and what antis think it is.
The heart of the Dramione fandom is about growing and changing and maturing and forgiving and falling in love despite the differences of the past.
It’s not about romanticizing bullying or toxic relationships, life is not black and white people, people can change and grow from their past actions and people can also forgive and move on.
There’s plenty of examples in the books of Harry and Ron mistreating Hermione and they all move past those instances (obviously that can’t be compared to what Draco did, I’m just making a point here).
I do acknowledge that the Dramione shippers have some bad apples among them, some problematic people that take it all too far, but honestly, every fandom and every ship has bad, toxic people so you can’t really use that against them.
All in all, things aren’t the way antis always present them, there’s a lot more gray there, and I hope this entirely too long post helped some of y’all see that.
