So I loved the way you wrote Buck with his scars! My heart was breaking! Could you maybe write one where he hates them and the reader comforts them and kisses his scars?
hi, sugar! 🥰 I am trying to write these requests chronologically but I couldn't wait to write this one, especially after seeing today's episode because domestic Buck is something I just NEED 😍 I added a whole plot around it, so you can also expect some of jealous Gale 👀 basically, his wife befriended some man when he was away and now he's jealous and insecure that he's not so handsome anymore lol like it's even possible
my inbox is open for blurb/short fic requests for major cleven 🤗
Buck stepped on the stool to take off the last of the Welcome Home signs as his wife stood below with her hand gently put on his thigh, making sure he wouldn’t fall. She didn’t want to miss any opportunity to touch him ever since he had come back.
Buck smiled to himself. It still felt odd to be back home and to be around his wife’s comforting presence, surrounded by her love and affection.
He furrowed his brows at the ceiling’s colour, though. It was oddly snow white and he remembered that it had been needing a renovation when they had moved in a few weeks before his departure to Europe.
“The ceiling’s been painted,” he pointed out as he handed his wife the paper sign and she took it from him to put it away.
“Yes. Ritchie’s done it,” she answered casually.
Buck froze for a second before stepping down from the stool and taking a better look at his wife. She didn’t look as if she was hiding some secret, though.
“Who is Ritchie?” He tried to remain cool. He had no right to be jealous. He didn’t want to be one of those husbands who didn’t want their wives to have any male friends.
Still, he was jealous.
“Oh, Ritchie, he’s just a… Just a friend, I mean…” (Y/N) chuckled and he could see her eyes sparkling. Buck’s jaw clenched at that reaction. “He’s a doctor, a local doctor, you know.”
“Do I know him?” Buck asked, trying to remember if he had known any Ritchies.
“No, no, honey, he was sent here when you had been… away,” she sighed. “I met him at the party…” (Y/N) got nervous explaining and Buck furrowed his brows at her. “I didn’t want to go, my friends forced me, I swear, Buck. It gave me no pleasure to dance and have fun knowing that you were… at some camp, I…” She shook her head and her eyes filled with tears.
“Shh,” Buck put his arms around her and brought her closer to place a kiss on the top of her head. “I hoped you would go out sometimes and have fun. I never wanted you to sit at home alone and cry all day and night. I hoped you’d know that, baby.”
“I know… Well, Ritchie was there. He wasn’t sent to Europe because we need doctors here, too,” (Y/N) sniffed her tears back and looked up at her husband. “He offered me help around the house. He painted the ceiling and took care of that spare room that might be a nursery one day… He fixed the drain and helped to mow the grass. You know, that sort of stuff,” (Y/N) explained. “I don’t know what I’d do without him, Buck. And he did that all for free!”
“For free, you say?” Buck raised an eyebrow. She looked so sweet and innocent, he didn’t want to accuse her of anything but he didn’t trust other men as much as he trusted his girl.
“Completely!” She assured him and nodded her head. “I wanted to pay him, I really did. But he told me that my husband was serving the country and it was his duty to help. He’s a sweetheart, really, Buck,” she tried to convince her husband. “In fact,” (Y/N) took a step back and smiled, “I think you should meet him. I think you’ll adore him! And you should thank him, too.”
“Thank him?” Buck asked, surprised. Perhaps she was right. He should. After all, that man had helped his wife enormously. But the ugly jealousy was too overwhelming.
“Of course!” (Y/N) gave him a scolding look. “Don’t you think he deserves to be thanked? Let me call him! I’ll invite him for dinner. He’s usually free on Sundays,” she ran to the telephone.
Buck only watched as she excitedly dialled the number she had memorised by heart. After a short while, someone on the other side of the line picked up and she smiled widely.
“Hey-ho, Ritchie, darling!” She started and Buck chewed on the inside of his cheek. He leaned on the wall, trying to look cool about it but he was exploding inside. “I was thinking that perhaps you’d join us for dinner tonight? I’d make that lasagna you like so much!” (Y/N) told her friend.
Buck tried not to look surprised that the mysterious Ritchie had his favourite dish already.
The truth was, Buck didn’t have any favourite dish (Y/N) made. And he hadn’t done much around this house before his departure either. They had gotten married two months before. He had been away for more than a year. That Ritchie guy had spent more time with his wife than he had. And it was killing him inside to realise that.
His wife had been everything that made his will to survive so strong. To see her again, to smell her, to touch her, to hear her laugh. She had saved him hundreds of times without even realising. And of course, as he had said to her, he hadn’t wanted her to spend all her days crying after him. But it still stinged his heart that she had some gentleman friend around. Cooking for him, renovating the house together, God-only-knows what else…
“Oh, no, you won’t be a bother!” (Y/N) shook her head to the receiver. “Buck wants to meet you and thank you for everything,” she turned around to smile at her husband. “Well, in two hours perhaps? Great!”
She put the receiver down and approached Buck to hug him and kiss his cheek.
“I can’t believe you’re here with me again… It feels so surreal,” she admitted.
He only hugged her closer, trying not to say anything. All he could feel was jealousy and he didn’t want to open his mouth and accidentally hurt her with his words.
Doctor Ritchie Nelson was older than Buck had expected – around 40. And much more handsome, too. Buck had naively hoped it would be some senior man living down the street or something like that. But no, he looked like a fucking actor. He had shiny black hair and bright blue eyes. He was a few inches taller and his clothes were very elegant.
Buck shook his hand to greet him when he opened the door.
“Major,” Ritchie saluted and then he gave Buck the most wonderful smile. Buck swallowed thickly.
Fuck me, he thought.
“Just call me Buck, doc,” he only said.
“And you call me Ritchie, son,” Ritchie walked inside as if the house had been his.
Buck closed the door behind him. He didn’t like being called son by that man even if he was older. But he didn’t want to start an argument and make his wife sad. She seemed to be very excited about the two of them finally meeting.
“(Y/N)’s in the kitchen now. She will serve the food in a moment. Follow me,” Buck headed to the dining room, painfully realising how stupid his words must have sounded. Of course Ritchie knew where to go.
But Ritchie didn’t say anything to that and took his place by the table.
“Hello, (Y/N)!” He raised his voice in the kitchen’s direction.
“Hello, sweetheart!” (Y/N) greeted him back and Buck took a seat across the table so he could face the man.
Before he could open his mouth to ask about something, his wife went inside with the plates. She put the food on the table and joined them, sitting right in between.
“So, your wife told me that you went down over Bremen,” Ritchie started so naturally. He had to be born with this charm and charisma. “That was hell of a mission, I’ve heard on the radio.”
“Oh, Ritchie, let’s not talk about the war, can we?” (Y/N) batted her eyelashes at him. “Please,” she laid her eyes on her husband and Buck nodded at her.
He also didn’t want to talk about the war. Especially with a man who had not been there.
“Of course,” Ritchie cleared his throat.
“I’d rather listen to your stories,” Buck told him. “What did I miss ‘round town?”
He quickly regretted asking that question. (Y/N) and Ritchie were telling him all sorts of stories and gossip about local women, drunkards, policemen, priests, divorces and marriages, new children getting born... He wouldn’t mind that itself but the way they interacted with each other made his heart sink deep in his chest.
(Y/N) was mostly looking at Ritchie and her eyes were sparkling whenever he said something funny. She would often touch his wrist when she was laughing and they had a ton of inside jokes that Buck didn’t even want to ask about.
“Oh, you tell that story. You tell it the best!” She would say often and then she would interrupt Ritchie all the time to add her own details. But Ritchie didn’t seem to mind.
Buck couldn’t handle it anymore. He stood up suddenly and they looked up at him, questioningly.
“Are you alright, darling?” (Y/N) asked him, worryingly.
“Yes, I just… I want water…” Buck said and she nodded her head.
He went to the kitchen and poured himself a glass before leaning on the counter and watching his wife still talking to Ritchie. They looked so natural together, so comfortable around each other.
In fact, she looked more relaxed around Ritchie than around Buck. The truth was that things had been awkward between them. When they were alone, they would sit in silence most of the time. And she didn’t look as relaxed as she did now.
Buck clenched his jaw and joined them by the table again, even though he felt as if he was a third wheel.
“Oh, Buck, baby, I forgot to tell you,” (Y/N) grabbed his arm and then she pointed at Ritchie. “Ritchie used to be a model.”
Fucking wonderful, Buck thought. But he pretended to be surprised as he laid his eyes at the other man.
“Oh, please,” Ritchie rolled his eyes and chuckled.
The worst part of Ritchie was that he was not mean. He wasn’t teasing Buck or trying to show off. He really was a nice man... who just happened to have a good relationship with Buck’s wife.
“I mean it! Back in the 30s. He was on the cover of the magazine!” (Y/N) finished the story. “I mean, look at him,” she laid her eyes on Ritchie. “40 this year and face so smooth,” her voice sounded almost dreamy.
Buck moved uncomfortably in his seat. His face was far from smooth now with a few scars scattered on his cheeks. They were not deep but he could see them every time he looked in the mirror. A painful reminder of what he had been through. He would never have a face like Ritchie fucking Nelson. He had already been uncomfortable with the scars but now he hated them.
He took a better look at his wife. God, she was so pretty. So full of life. She deserved someone like her. Not a man broken by the war like him.
“I actually could sign a contract and go to Hollywood,” Ritchie confessed, a little shyly.
“But he chose to refuse and become a doctor,” (Y/N) shook her head and looked at Buck. “Can you believe that? I’d choose Hollywood,” she joked and Ritchie laughed.
Buck forced a chuckle. He couldn’t focus on her words anymore anyway.
“It’s getting late,” Ritchie took a glance at his watch. “I’m opening my cabinet tomorrow in the early morning. I should be going now.”
“Of course,” (Y/N) nodded and stood up to walk him to the front door. Buck remained in the dining room and waited for her to be back.
It took her quite a long time to say goodbye to her friend. He almost stood up himself to check on them but that was when she finally joined him and sat back by that table.
An awkward silence occurred between them.
“Isn’t he lovely?” (Y/N) started as she played with the food on her plate.
“Yes,” Buck nodded. “Damn, I forgot to thank him.”
“It’s alright. He doesn’t really expect that. You can do that next time, too,” she took his hand in hers and caressed it gently.
He hated to see her more stiff and awkward around him than she had been around Ritchie.
“I’ll wash the dishes,” she sighed and stood up, taking the plates from the table.
Buck stood in front of the mirror in the morning and looked at his freshly shaven face. Last night he had a nightmare again and he didn’t get a lot of sleep. His eyes missed the spark he had had before his departure to Europe. They were tired now and sadder, no matter how much he tried to be the same man as before. There were a few new wrinkles on his forehead, too. And those awful scars on his cheeks. His face was definitely not smooth.
“Knock, knock, baby,” (Y/N) opened the door gently. “What is taking you so long? I thought you were shaving,” she smiled softly at him. “I started to worry.”
“I got distracted, sorry,” he reached out for the towel to wipe the remaining shaving cream off of his face but (Y/N) approached him to do it herself.
“Aw, look at you, my handsome husband,” she gave him a warm and loving smile.
He hated that little voice in his head telling him that she had said that out of pity.
“Not anymore,” Buck chuckled nervously and put an aftershave on.
“What are you talking about?” (Y/N) furrowed her brows as she stared at his reflection in the mirror.
He only shook his head, scared that he would start crying if he said something now.
“Gale?” She asked softly as she delicately put her hand on his shoulder. “What do you mean?”
“I mean, look at my face now,” he turned around to face her as his voice trembled.
“I am looking, baby,” she bit on her lower lip and placed her hands on his cheeks to caress them gently with her thumbs. “Do you mean those scars, love?” She asked, nervously.
Buck only nodded as his eyes filled with tears.
“Can I be honest with you, my darling?” She asked and he nodded again. “Well, I didn’t want to mention them when you came back home. I didn’t know if I could, I didn’t want to make you feel uncomfortable or sad… But I wanted to tell you…” she hesitated for a moment and his heart skipped a beat.
He expected her to tell him now that they were indeed ugly or making him less attractive. Of course, she would later tell him she loves him despite them and all that jazz. What else would she say?
“I know that they’re on your face because you’ve been hurt and in pain, so I don’t feel good saying this but… Well, I think they make you look even more handsome,” she admitted and Buck’s eyes widened a little. “Am I a bad wife for thinking that?” She asked, nervously. “I’m sorry if I am. But you look so brave, my darling. And so handsome. They make me feel so proud to be your wife when I see them,” she leaned in to place small kisses up and down one of his cheeks and then the other.
“I thought you liked Ritchie’s soft face…” Buck muttered out.
“Wh-what?” (Y/N) took a step back to look deep into his eyes, her hands still caressing his cheeks. “Oh, you’re jealous?”
“Well, how can I not be?” Buck held her wrists gently and moved them out of his face to place soft kisses upon her knuckles. One at the time. “He spent more time with you than me. You’re so comfortable around him. I’m glad you had a friend when I was gone. But I can’t help not to be jealous,” he confessed. “He’s not as broken as me.”
“Gale,” (Y/N) shook her head. “You’re the only man for me. I’ve been waiting for you here, each day and night. And those silly scars you’re so bothered about? Goddamit, I was praying to all the gods in the world to bring you back to me, even without arms or legs, so what do they even matter? They’re nothing. I just wanted my husband back with me!” She began to tear up.
“I know,” Buck brought her closer to hug her. “I’m not accusing you of anything, I know.”
“Oh, you’d be an idiot if you accused me,” she chuckled through the tears.
“Why?” He asked and rubbed her back.
“Because Ritchie… He…” She tried to find the right words. “Well, he doesn’t like women, if you know what I mean.”
Oh.
What a burden had just left Buck’s heart. He chuckled out of relief.
“Yeah, I should have… I should have known. There was something about him,” he admitted.
“He’ll be flattered that you thought of him as competition. It means you find him attractive,” (Y/N) giggled and Buck rolled his eyes before hugging her even tighter. “I love you, Major Cleven,” she squeezed him tighter too. “All of you, all the scars and all the breaks you claim to have.”
Buck was left speechless for a moment. He just kept holding her and kissed her temple before finally speaking up.
“I love you, too, Mrs. Cleven.”

NaNoWriMo 2023: Day 15
Happy NaNoWriMo 2023! I will be posting excepts of my writing every day of the challenge, to keep myself accountable and to share the pieces I like! I am continuing the novel I started last year, The Lucien Project so search #nanowrimo on my page to get up to date.
11/15/2023 Word Count: 2,729 Total 2023: 28,188
“Good morning, Aurelia, how are you doing today?” she said as she approached the young girl.
Aurelia giggled, legs swinging mindlessly beneath her. “Hi Miss Olivia! Who is that guy?” the girl asked, leaning forward in her chair to point at the Scientist who was still chatting casually with Mother.
“Hm?” Miss Olivia looked at the tiny pointer finger, following its direction. “That is Miss Asa. She’s a doctor for kids, just like me!”
Aurelia nodded her head to show understanding, but her mind was already elsewhere. Miss Asa and Mother had just left the room, and Aurelia was curious to know what their “interview” was going to be about. “Is this inter-review a secret?” she asked, cocking her head to the side.
Miss Olivia chuckled softly. “No, no, my dear, not a secret. I just don’t have any questions for Miss Asa, or for your Mother,” she explained. “Just. For. You.” With that last word, she planted her finger on Aurelia’s nose, making the girl giggle almost uncontrollably. “Alright, now, Aurelia, this is a serious talk, okay?”
Aurelia giggled for a second, before realizing that Miss Olivia meant it. There was kindness in the woman’s eyes, still, but no playfulness. Aurelia’s legs stopped swinging on the chair. “Okay,” she said with a deep breath, wiping the sillies off her face. “I’m serious. I’m ready.”
Miss Olivia pulled a chair across the room to sit before the girl. “Alright,” she said with a deep breath of her own. Aurelia wondered if she was nervous, or scared for some reason. She didn’t have the chance to ask before Miss Olivia spoke again: “I need you to look into my eyes, and think really hard?”
Aurelia scrunched her brows and lips in a mask of confusion. “Think about what?” she asked, after a few moments of reflection.
“Let’s say…a dolphin. Imagine a dolphin jumping out of the sea and into the sky.”
Aurelia giggled again. She couldn’t help it. “Just like Lucien!” she said, nodding her head emphatically.
Miss Olivia smiled again. “Yes, yes, just like Lucien!” she said. “Can you send me a picture like Lucien?”
Aurelia thought about it for a moment, looking at her shoes and the floor below. “Well. I guess I can try,” she said.
“Okay, Aurelia. Now look into my eyes…”
“Oh, right.” Aurelia raised her eyes to meet the Scientist’s. They were gray eyes. Had Aurelia noticed that Miss Olivia had gray eyes before? They were pretty, much prettier than Mother’s. Aurelia wished she had gray eyes like that, like the color of something strong, like steel. Or some other sort of metal.
“Aurelia, do you have an image in your head?” Miss Olivia asked, breaking into Aurelia’s thoughts.
The girl shrank back in her chair. “I forgot…” she muttered under her breath. She then made a dramatic sigh, and leaned forward in her chair, eyes fixed intently on Miss Olivia’s. She tried to picture the dolphin in her head, the way she always saw it in her mind when she saw Lucien. She thought about the ocean, and about how they tried to paint it together, once…
Miss Olivia closed her eyes, and put a hand on her head. “I didn’t see it,” she said softly, barely loud enough for Aurelia to hear.
“Of course not!” Aurelia said, trying to cheer up the other. “Only Lucien can do it.”
Miss Olivia opened her eyes slowly, looking up to Aurelia with big, wet eyes. “Yes… only Lucien.”

(Post-Nearl Light Platinum fic, as promised)
“Senomy? Could you excuse us for a moment?” The Doctor asked her as Platinum entered his office.
“Doctor, you know I trust your judgment,” Gravel replied, glaring daggers at the Kuranta, “but you know how I feel about her.”
He patted her on the shoulder. “I do. You also know how I feel about her, though, don’t you?”
“Yes, I do, but…My whole purpose here is to protect you from danger, and she’s practically a walking knife.” Not that she’d be any match for the Zalak’s pair, should it come to that-
“Gravel.” Since she wouldn’t take it as a request, it’d have to be an order. “Watch over Amiya for the rest of the evening. You’ll report back to me in the morning.”
Senomy sighed, slid the partially-unsheathed knife back in place, and gave Platinum a stabbing glance instead. “Watch yourself.”
“Oh, don’t worry about little old me; I’ll behave,” Centaurea teased. It was fun knowing the Zalak really couldn’t do anything about it, either-
“Please don’t antagonize her too much.” The Doctor propped his feet up on his desk as the door to his office closed. “Ready to go?”
The Kuranta gestured to her casual outfit. “Of course. Are you wearing that to the park?”
“Yes and no.” He flipped his hoodie inside-out; the only clear change was that the Rhodes Island logos were nowhere to be seen.
“Clever. Now we’re good?” She waited for him to stand up and walk past her, locking arms with him as he did. “Let’s have some fun.”
He snickered. “I’d hope we’d have some at an ‘amusement park.’”
“Have you ever been to one?”
“Not that I remember,” the amnesiac admitted. “You?”
Centaurea rolled her eyes. “With what time?”
“No downtime at all? Kazimierz really does make being an assassin boring as hell, doesn’t it?” The Doctor was happy to say that at least his organization made it properly exciting, even if it wasn’t really ‘assassination’ in the classic sense.
“Especially once they hollow you out to be a proper little puppet.” She sighed. “I don’t want to think about all that right now, though.”
He nodded. “Same here. We’ll take the fast way there.”
The ‘fast way’ was, of course, visiting one of Dusk’s paintings - a brightly-lit forest path, something one of her fans had managed to smuggle out of her dorm during a rather risky ‘salvage operation,’ as Engineering had called it - and popping out the other side in a Rhodes Island waypoint less than a ten minute walk from the park. One of the perks of being with the Doctor: all the perks he had, he shared when he could.
“Tickets please! Thank you, young lady.” A Feline holding a wooden box with a slit in it smiled as Platinum dropped the tickets inside. “Have a wonderful evening~”
“You too.” The Doctor gave him a fist bump as the pair walked past.
It wasn’t a particularly busy evening at the park; honestly, they seemed to have picked the perfect time to go. There weren’t any long lines when they found something they felt like trying - for example, a shoot-the-apple booth which the Sniper absolutely took to town in exchange for a small burdenbeast plush - but there were the sounds of cheer and merriment all around. Clearly someone was having fun.
…It was just hard for Centaurea to tell if she was that person or not. “Do you feel like you’re being watched?” She asked the Doctor, seated on a bench, as he brought her a caramel-covered apple-on-a-stick.
“Always,” he casually replied. “People know exactly where I am and why at all times.”
“And that doesn’t bother you? Isn’t that part of the point of getting away like this - to ‘get away’ from the day-to-day?” Sure, it certainly felt like an unusual day, but she’d had plenty of those during the most recent knights’ competition anyway.
He gave her a curious look, mostly discernable from his voice rather than his shrouded face. “As long as I’m not doing office work, I am away from the day-to-day. I guess it’s the differences in our specialties.”
“I suppose.” Platinum bit into her apple, and her eyes popped open a little. “It’s so sweet…How much sugar is in this?”
“Well, it’s covered in caramel, which is basically cooked sugar, so a fair bit.”
The Kuranta frowned. “I’m not one to count calories, but the only reason I’m finishing this is because you bought it for me.”
“Whatever you need to tell yourself to live a little.” The Doctor flipped his fully-cleaned stick into the air. “Oh, there’s one thing we absolutely have to try before we leave.”
“I thought you’d never visited an amusement park before?” She took another chunk out of her snack, pondering if they’d be better off having dinner back at the ship rather than eating only fair food-
He poked her shoulder. “You good? Kinda spaced out on me there.”
“Did I?” Must’ve been the apple. It was annoyingly delicious. “What were you saying? Something we absolutely have to try?”
“The observation wheel.” He pointed past her to a large spoked contraption a fair distance away.
Platinum blinked. That would explain the feeling of being watched better than some Armorless Union spies, honestly. “Are you a fan of heights?”
“Not particularly,” the Doctor admitted, “but I read about it in a magazine yesterday.”
‘After I asked him to come here with me?...Did he research this place ahead of time?’ “If you want to try it, sure.”
He smiled, the corners of his cloth mask lifting subtly. “Great. We can take out time - park doesn’t close for another couple of hours.”
“No, we can go now. Nothing else really catches my attention.” Not even the sound of sizzling meat on a grill…Actually, “After we get something more savory to eat. Someone’s grilling loud enough for me to hear, and that’s usually a good sign.”
“Lead the way.” They stood up, arms locked once more, and went off in search of the sound Centaurea’s heightened senses had picked up on.
Eventually, after a couple kebabs were purchased and shortly thereafter devoured, the couple stepped into the grounded passenger car and sat on the singular bench within. As they rose into the air, Platinum realized it certainly lived up to its name: above the amusement park, she really could observe everything, and with her eyesight, it would’ve made a great sniping posi-
“There really is no escaping it, is there?” The Doctor’s comment pulled her attention back to reality. “I saw your face scrunch up. You realized this would be a great way to take down a target, didn’t you?”
She sighed. “More or less.”
“You know, you don’t have to escape your past completely to have fun. I know, probably sounds like a load of beast-shit coming from a guy who can’t remember more than a couple years of his own life, but it’s still true.” He rested a hand between them on the bench.
“It’s…it’s not just that.” Her hand pressed on his as the Sniper turned to look at him, but it didn’t register in the moment. “I was hoping that coming out here with you, I’d remember what it was like before I had a hundred voices ordering me around, a thousand eyes scrutinizing my every move, but even sitting hundreds of feet above it all, I still- did we stop moving?”
He nodded; they’d reached the pinnacle, and the car had stopped. “We got in just in time for the show.”
“The show?”
“Yep.” There was a whistling sound in the distance, followed by a brilliant sapphire explosion. “The fireworks show.”
The Kuranta’s eyes widened. “You knew it was about to start.”
“I did,” the Doctor smiled back, pulling back his hood and sliding his mask down.
“...You planned for this.” Centaurea’s focus was still on the ongoing flashing lights. Colors she’d forgotten could look so bright, a faint smell of gunpowder on a gentle breeze, near silence outside the occasional echoed laughter and far-off whistling of another rocket on its one-way journey to delight its two-person audience. “You knew when this was happening, and you had us stop for food at just the right time so you could ask me to ride this wheel with you.”
He wasn’t about to deny it. “Got it in one.”
“But…why?” She looked back at him, mouth dropping a little as she saw him for the first time without the layers of obfuscation. Without them, it was hard to recognize him as the Doctor, frankly. He looked so…normal. Mortal, even.
“I like knowing what I’m getting into when someone asks me to go somewhere with me.” His hand flipped under hers to hold it, thumb on top. “More than that, though, I thought you’d enjoy the fireworks. Are you?”
Is that what this feeling was? The audible thumping of her heartbeat, the dazzling lights of the explosions meant to delight rather than destroy, the twinkling in his eye that felt like it was mirroring one in her own - was that what enjoying something was supposed to be? Was she having fun? Because in that moment, it felt like something more than that. Something stronger. “I’m enjoying being here with you.” Well, fuck, that’d just kind of slipped out-
“Even better.” He scooted a little closer, and with both their guards entirely down, he kissed her cheek. At least, he would have, but there was just enough time for Platinum’s whirring id to catch onto what he was doing, and she turned her head just enough so that kiss would find her lips instead.
“...So that’s where this was leading, all along.” Centaurea’s voice was small, quivering. More like the one she heard in her head than the one she normally spoke with. “I didn’t want to make any assumptions, but I…I’d hoped you weren’t just humoring me.”
The Doctor was a little embarrassed that he’d missed his original mark, but happy his feelings were well-received. “After what you’ve been through, you deserve more than one evening of happiness, and, um, I realized I wanted to be the person to give you that opportunity.”
“‘Deserve?’ How do I deserve this?”
“Everyone deserves to live well and be loved.” He wiped a tear away from her cheek; it’d snuck past while their lips were locked. “It might take a while for that to sink in, but I’ll remind you every chance I get, if you let me.”
The former Platinum looked into his eyes, confused and surprised, but more than anything, grateful. “Gravel’s going to kill me for this, isn’t she?”
“Is that a yes?” He tilted his head to the side, a smirk on his face.
“You asked a question?” She leaned forward for a second kiss, only answering after the Doctor gave it to her. “...Then yes, Doctor.”
The fireworks at the park stopped shortly after, and the wheel began to turn again. In their cabin, however, they’d only just begun.
#arknights#arknights fic#platinum (arknights)#cerastes' post really got me thinking about them as a ship#and of course the event#but this was seeded a while ago tbh#actually beat S-5 and got to 50 renown-or-whatever to see the third epilogue#Gravel and Platinum's dynamic is fun for this kind of thing too#...but they really did make a sad workhorse and make me like her a lot#maybe I should finally get around to E2ingh her now that Gummy's E2'd...#there will be a Gravel and Flametail fic after these#hopefully pretty quickly atmosphere willing

* * *
right off the bat, peter’s handwriting is awful. let’s not kid ourselves, that boy is a genius and could not care less about how his notes look like. it’s like he has taken on a very personal quest to compete with every doctor in the country to see who can be the most incoherent. it’s scary
it’s so bad that no one even asks peter for his class notes anymore because, well, for one thing, that boy barely attends classes, and for another, trying to make out what it says will blind you and permeate your eyelids
it is worse than staring death in the face (source: “still horrified and sad” loki)
y/n is probably the only person who can read peter’s medical shorthand. she has absolutely zero (0) problems reading it and the avengers are BAFFLED
she can pick up peter’s notebooks and read them aloud like they’re typed in double spaced 12 pt. times new roman
no she will not explain how or why
this one time, peter helped morgan make really ~extravagant~ christmas cards with glitter and fake snow (it was GREAT) but since she’s like 4 and can’t write, he wrote sweet little words inside the cards for her and then gave it to tony and steve
tony, with tears in his eyes: “this is beautiful, thank you. i’ve never seen anything more beautiful”
steve, whispering: “your eyes are burning too, right?” “i can’t even tell if it’s nonsensical symbols or witchcraft???”
tony’s handwriting is surprisingly neat? like, actually…quite nice
no one really knows why, but he has this thing where the letters just have to be the same size, on a straight line, and tilting at the same angle otherwise he will have a nervous breakdown and fight you in the nearest parking lot (as you do when being confronted with any inconvenience as a grown adult and avenger)
but because that is too stressful, tony barely writes down anything. ever. he just tells F.R.I.D.A.Y. to set a reminder and calls it a day. last time he picked up a pen was in 2009 and that was just because he couldn’t reach an itching spot on his back
the one time he does write something down though, hell breaks loose
“wait is tony holding a pen?” “tony are you writing? am i seeing things? are you ok—are you dying?? let me get the others DON’T MOVE” *distant crashing sound* “gUYS—”
two seconds later, everyone is huddled around tony, straining their necks, and trying to get a glimpse at his little piece of paper
“what do you think it is? a love letter?” “maybe a heartfelt complaint” “probably a plan for world domination” “he’s got those on flash drives, it’s a suicide note” “it’s a grocery list. fuck you guys”
thor has the handwriting of a little child
it’s precious. it makes all his letters and postcards from Out Of Space™️ look like they were written using the comic sans font. he also adds an excessive amount of stardust. it’s wonderful
steve’s handwriting is your typical average jo. he’s an ~artist~ and he is american so he mainly writes in capital letters because he thinks it’s Patriotic and Aesthetically Pleasing
he’s also the only one who will pick up the newspaper in the morning, but it’s mainly because of the crossword puzzles because!! boy oh boy!! he LOVES them!!
he thinks they are SPLENDID and MIND STIMULATING and even though he does have the brains for it, sometimes there are gaps that he just can’t fill, so he writes down anything in fat capital block letters and casually thrusts it in other people’s faces
then he runs off so no one can see his actual answers like cardi b being a jeopardy star
bucky barnes has the handwriting of a founding father
the others find out about this because y/n had asked him to write down a recipe for her since she had broken her arm, so he did, but she just never had the chance to look at it
until one day, y/n whips out that recipe out in the kitchen and peter is standing behind her
“is that……the constitution??”
it’s not, but bucky really got into calligraphy when he was in wakanda. at first, he only did it for fun during his free time with the goats
but now he feels confident in his cursive and doesn’t see why he shouldn’t use it daily
and the more bucky practices, the more he ~dresses up~ his letters
so what starts out as readable-to-the-average-person cursive turns into what looks like 9 loops and random swirls of hell
he LOVES it
and the avengers can tell that he loves it so they keep making up excuses for him to write out stuff for them just to see the little glint in his eyes
“bucky, can you sign this for me?” “why?” “no reason” “peter, i’m not your legal guardian? aunt may has to sign this” “just write down her name” “what??” “i can see you want to. just do it” *proceeds to happily forge signature*
it doesn’t even matter that everyone kinda struggles to read bucky’s pretentious cursive. it’s beautiful. and if you squint really hard, you’ll get the gist
“y/n, bucky left me a sticky note that just says punk. do you know why?” “does it matter? it looks like a prop from a period drama. frame it”
the only person who’s not impressed by bucky’s handwriting is tony alias mr. practical
tony needs everyone to fill out some forms and while handing them out, he looks bucky directly in the eyes to say “and make sure us peasants can read it”
but one day, when tony’s sick and stuck in his room, peter and y/n have the idea to make a little card for tony to wish him a speedy recovery and everyone has to sign it and write a little message
so that’s how tony ends up with the ugliest, strangest, and most magnificent card the world has ever seen. ~handmade~ by the avengers
there’s stardust, and glitter, and neon paint, and a clash of 20 very distinctive and one-of-a-kind handwritings
tony tries to brush it off, but to this day it may or may not still be on his night stand at all times so he can look at it every night before going to bed <3
* * *
am i going to make a series out of this even tho no one asked for it? yes. yes, i am. i hope you guys like reading them just as much as i like writing them bc i’m not going to stop lol thanks for reading! stay hydrated <3

@snarkyship is a true genius. I commission this Stark Family Portrait and I couldn’t be happier. I wrote a little fic to accompany this fabulous Picture. hope you all enjoy.
Stark Family Picture Day
By Sukora Kurai
Tony sighed over the counter in the communal kitchen. He had been there since dawn when he asked Jarvis what day it was. Then his trusty AI informed him of an importance of this month. Now he was stuck with what to do now.
“Hey Tony what’s got you down?”
“Hey Capsicle, I’m doomed.”
“Oh come on Tony, it can’t be that bad you are an Avenger.” Steve smiled as he got out food to make omelets for the Team, and greeted the in coming members. “Morning Nat, morning Bruce.”
“Morning Steve, what’s wrong with Tony?” Bruce greeted heading to the stove to put the kettle on for his morning tea.
“Not sure I found him like this.” Steve stated cracking some eggs into a bowl.
“His and Loki’s anniversary is this month and he has no idea what to get him.” Nat answered pouring a large mug of coffee.
Tony shot up in his seat and stared slack jawed. “How could you possibly know that?”
“It’s my job as a shield Agent and Pepper’s PA to keep tabs on you. So it is well documented when you clumsily asked Loki to be your boyfriend during the Lord of the Rings Marathon where you bought out the AMC Theater for the day.” The Spy shrugged ignoring the fact that all her team mates stared at her in horror. All were now wondering what she had on them in those SHIELD files.
“So Tony, you have and anniversary coming up? Have you though about what Loki might like?” Steve coughed drawing the conversation back to the main topic.
“No, I don’t. What does one give a god especially one that has magic and can make anything appear out of thin air?” Tony waved his arms in frustration.
“That is a tough one but I’m sure anything you get him will be fine. Loki loves you Tony.” Bruce tried to be supportive.
“I hope you will be putting more thought into the gift you give me next month for our anniversary.” Nat gave the Gamma Doctor a pointed before wandering out of the room to start her routine before heading out to work.
“Ha, I’m not the only one in hot water now!” Tony crowed at the look of devastation in his science-bro’s face.
“Tony, knock it off. Now in my day it was the thought that counted most. You should find what Loki cherishes the most. You find that then you can present to him in a meaningful way. It’s true he’s a prince and probably has had his other lovers throw jewels and meaningless expensive trinkets at him to win his affections. You know Loki better because you love him and he loves you.” Steve pointed out.
“Yeah, Lokes complains a lot about his life in Asgard and that there were many who wooed him just to get to Thor. At night when it’s just the two of us and RC snuggled between us he sighs soft and says what a perfect night it is. He never elaborates but I think it means that he likes just the quiet nights with us.” The genius eyes went glazed as he recalled the many nights he cuddled with his god. Then the idea hit him. “Hey Spangles, can you paint or do you just draw?”
“Huh,” Steve was caught off guard and almost dropped the omelet he was flipping. “I paint from time to time.”
“Don’t lie babe you are in your studio whenever can get the chance.” Bucky laughed entering the kitchen. “All the paintings in our apartment Stevie did.”
“Great! Can you do a portrait if I get you a picture?” Tony asked digging in to the ham and cheese omelet.
“Yeah, it might take two weeks maybe less depends on if we get called out or if SHIELD needs me.” The captain estimated placing another plate in front of his boyfriend.
“As long as it’s done before the end of the month we’re good. Jarvis start looking through my photos and pull out any possible portraits.”
“Yes, sir.”
“Delicious breakfast as usual Capsicle. I’ll get you the photo as soon as I find one.” Tony dumped his empty plate in sink and ran off to his lab.
Two hours later…
“None of these are good enough J.”
“Sir, might I suggest you take a new photo of you and Prince Loki.”
“Yeah and RC too, because she’s our baby. We can’t have a Family Portrait without all the family members. Where’s are RC now?”
“She is currently with Alpine in his play room.”
“Cool, I think I got the perfect outfit in mind.” Tony grinned as he ran to his emergency closet in the lab. Tony had put in the closet when he realized he destroyed a lot of his clothes during his inventing and building phases. Also there was a suit or two for the days he forgot he was supposed to be in a meeting and had to make a rush to the board room.
In the penthouse…
It had been a quiet morning with no call outs, no calls to Asgard and no need to go anywhere. Loki decided to enjoy the peace and quite lounging in his soft Asgardian casual clothes on the couch reading his mother’s spell journal.
“Hey there, Bambi! It’s Picture Day!”
“Anthony, what are you on about?” The prince looked up from his book to see his lover carrying their cat into the living room.
“Well Picture Day refers to the day school kids take pictures for the yearbook and photos are bought for family distribution. Anyways I want to have a family picture that was honest. I never had that growing up because Howard was an asshole and Maria, my mother, was frail. She loved me but she couldn’t express it because she was always ill. Now we have our own little family and I want a picture to put in the lab.”
“You want to take this picture now? Anthony, I look a mess and how did you get the bow on the cat?”
“Aww, you look gorgeous, love, as always. Anyways, I put a bow on our baby because RC loves to look pretty for her daddies. Don’t you sweetie.” Tony scratched under the kitty’s chin as they sat on couch next to the god.
“Mew,” RC purred.
“Fine, you win, where would you like to take the picture? Also what are you wearing? I don’t believe I’ve seen that outfit before, and what is on your feet?” Loki set his book aside and took in his lover’s appearance.
“Oh you like? I dressed in red and gold to match my shoes. I had these shoes made based on my Iron Man suit. I thought maybe putting them on the market for kids but I liked them too much to share. So I have a life time supply in the lab. If you want I can have a pair made for you.”
“No thank you. They clash with my outfit. Now let’s take your picture.” Loki said taking the cat in his arms.
“Okay, okay. Let me get out my phone.” Tony fished his Stark Phone out of his back pocket and held it out to make them all fit in the frame. “Okay say cheese!”
“Click”
“Okay let’s see how that one turned out.” Tony looked at the photo to see him smiling a black blur and a bland look on Loki’s face. “Nope we got try again. This time smile Loki and RC you need to stay still so we can see you.”
And it went picture by picture they have yet to take a family portrait.
“Shit I only got half your face.”
“Anthony your thumb is on the lens.”
“RC Stay still!”
“Achoo! Ow! I dropped on my foot!”
“Do not eat my hair you Retched Creature!”
“Okay I set it up on a tripod. Now say cheese.”
“CHEESE BROTHER!” Thor popped up between the two men who stared at shock at the blond god.
“Next!” Tony rolled his eyes as Loki vanished his brother to where ever. Tony didn’t ask where the Loki sent Thunder god. He rather liked staying in the tower and wanted to keep it that way.
“Meow!”
“No RC! Don’t chase the bunny!”
Three Hours Later…
“Okay, this is it I can feel it. Now Jarvis is going to take the picture the bunnies are secure in their room. The penthouse is locked down, so no unexpected guest and RC is filled of milk to keep her calm and relaxed. And I promise after we get this picture I will have Jarvis order you favorite meal from the Thai Palace down the street and I’ll rub your feet, while we watch you favorite Harry Potter movies.”
“Oh Anthony you spoil me. I love you.” Loki sighed as a soft smile graced his face and he leaned into his lover as Tony joined their hands together. RC who was seated now on the god’s shoulder leaned in and purred soaking up the love of her people. The genius couldn’t be happier in that moment as he had his to precious family members with him and the grin on his face was wide and bright.
“Click.”
Two Weeks Later…
“Sir Prince Loki and Mr. Odinson have returned from Asgard.”
“Great, I got everything ready. Tell Loki that I have dinner ready and waiting.”
“Yes, sir.” Tony had the table set with Loki’s Favorite food from the five star steak house, they go to. He paid extra to have the chef come over and cook for their anniversary.
“Ding.”
“Thank you, Jarvis. Evening Anthony, never in my life had been so glad to leave Asgard. He talked for hours at the council over stagnant topics. What’s all this?”
“Well my hard working God of Mischief, today is our one year Anniversary and I have planned the perfect evening. Dinner, a bath and I installed a movie screen in our bathroom so we can enjoy the movie of your choice during the bath and then I plan on us making love until dawn.” Tony pulled Loki over to the dinner table, watching as the god’s magic removed the armor and replaced it with comfortable Asgardian wear.
“You lovely little man, you spoil me so; I don’t deserve it or you.” The Raven pulled the billionaire into his arms and planting kisses all over the man’s face.
“Yes you do, because I love you and I got you something, well I got Cap to make it, but it was my idea.”
“You didn’t have to, dinner is more than enough.”
“No, I wanted to. Now close your eyes and I’ll get your present.” As Loki closed his eyes Tony ran out of the room and grabbed the portrait from where he hid it. He placed it on the wall then Jarvis turned on the lights illuminating the painting. “Okay open them.”
“Oh Anthony! It’s wonderful.” Loki’s eyes became all misty seeing their little family together and there was so much love radiating from painting. “It’s perfect.”
“Happy Anniversary Reindeer Games.”
“Happy Anniversary, my Man of Iron.” Loki whispered pulling Tony in to the sweetest kiss they ever shared. They didn’t hear the click sound of Jarvis capturing the moment with the sunset background. Another memory to save for another day.
The End.

Fox Mulder, Closet Romantic Ch. 20: Nattduksbord
Previous Chapter - AO3 - MSR, rated E
This means something; Mulder can feel it.
This signifies a shift in their relationship; a step forward, from platonic partners to a romantic couple. It’s a shared experience that has the potential to change their dynamic forever. Years of trust, fighting together against a common enemy, seeking the truth… it could all come crashing down today, in a shopping mall in Woodbridge, Virginia.
They’re going to IKEA.
Summer is on the rise, and the humidity is close to stifling as they buckle into his car. Scully’s wearing a little striped t-shirt, capri pants, and sandals, revealing sky blue painted toes. For a disorienting moment Mulder wonders if he’s going to develop a foot fetish. Probably not, but Dana Scully could make even the most vanilla of men want to do crazy things.
“Do you have your shopping list?” Scully asks as he starts the car.
He pulls the folded scrap of paper out of the chest pocket of his white t-shirt. “Right here,” he replies, eyes darting over to her for one more look as he holds out the list.
She takes it, catching his eyes momentarily. “Why do you keep looking at me like that?” she asks.
I want to suck your toes. “You look nice today, that’s all.”
“Oh. Well, thank you.”
Scully can probably tell he’s desperate for her; she can read him like a dog-eared, yellowed paperback. He’s simultaneously grateful for her sharp instincts and embarrassed by his carnal desires. He hasn’t gotten laid in four years, and he fears he’ll be too eager when the time comes. As it is, he can barely believe she’s let him have even the smallest glimpses of her as a sexual being. She’s intoxicating, and he’s dizzy with the knowledge that this beautiful, brilliant, downright edible woman actually wants him. Him, a mortal man of aliens and bad ties and a porn collection that’s gradually becoming least seventy-five percent redheads. A man without a bed.
Hence their Saturday morning pilgrimage to the shrine where all new couples journey to find furnishings, low prices, and themselves.
“So, we’re looking for one tall bookshelf, a locking filing cabinet, a bed, and two night tables,” Scully reads. She refolds the paper and reaches across him to tuck it back into his shirt pocket. “That’s clearly not all going to fit in this car,” she notes.
“I’ll get the bigger stuff delivered,” he says.
It’s only a twenty minute drive from Mulder’s place, and they have the air-conditioning on. Mulder is starting to relax; it’s been a long time since he’s had a partner, in the domestic sense, and he’d forgotten that it makes the mundane more bearable.
Scully clears her throat almost imperceptibly. “I’m proud of you, by the way.”
“Really? Why?” Mulder asks.
“You managed to get rid of a lot of stuff,” she says, turning up the dial on the car’s air conditioner. “And organization is very clearly not your strong suit, so progress should be acknowledged and celebrated.”
“Yippee,” Mulder deadpans.
“You know, it’s odd; we’ve known each other for all these years and I never asked… why don’t you have a bed, Mulder?”
There it is, the question he knew would come up at some point. He clears his throat, grips the steering wheel a little tighter. “I, uh… I lived with someone, around ‘91. Another agent, actually. We were together for a while, and then one day she took some assignment in Europe and that was that. I got rid of everything that was hers, and that, uh, included the bed.” Technically our bed, he thinks. He winces. He’s never talked to Scully about Diana before, and he wonders if she’ll be upset that he was withholding such a large piece of personal information.
Scully is quiet. “I’m sorry,” she says softly. “That’s… I didn’t know.”
“I’m sorry I never mentioned it,” Mulder says. “It’s not like it’s some big painful secret. I just… don’t really think about her anymore.”
“It’s alright,” Scully says. “I think it’s best for these kinds of things to come up naturally. And… I was dating someone when we met,” Scully confesses. “We broke up as soon as I got back from Bellefleur.”
Mulder looks at her quickly. “Really? Why?”
She furrows her brow. “Multiple reasons, but primarily I realized that this job, my assignment, was bigger than I’d anticipated. And the things you and I went through together, the things I’d seen… when I was honest with myself, I didn’t want to be tied down to him. To have to go home and have this man ask me how my day was, as though he could ever understand even half of what we do.”
“So you chose the job over him,” Mulder muses.
“In essence… I chose you,” Scully points out. “Whether I knew it then or not. I’d never be able to turn my back on you.”
Mulder exhales slowly. He’s strangely moved.
“Take a left at the next light,” Scully prompts softly. “And yes, I do realize the irony in breaking things off with a man because of his normalcy, only to continue trying to date so-called ‘normal’ men.”
Mulder shrugs. “No, it makes sense. Maybe he just wasn’t right for you, but the next normal guy could be, right?”
“Right,” Scully sighs. “Einstein’s definition of insanity. Doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results.”
“I’ve been led to believe that being with me is another type of insanity,” Mulder points out. “And objectively, I can’t disagree.”
“You do make me crazy,” Scully agrees, voice low. “But that’s not always a bad thing.” He feels her small hand squeeze his thigh. “And I fully intend to return the favor.”
Mulder lets out a quiet groan, hands sweaty on the steering wheel. “You planning on giving me some roadside assistance, Agent Scully? Because I’m gonna need it if you keep doing that.”
She removes her hand, tucks her hair behind her ear. “I didn’t do anything,” she says innocently.
“Uh huh.” He pulls into the IKEA parking lot. “Well, we’re here. You ready?”
“As ready as a person can be for a labyrinthian furniture store on a muggy Saturday,” she replies.
-
“This is fucking ridiculous,” Mulder says from his spot on the bedroom floor, surrounded by scattered pieces of a ‘HOLLEBY’ bedside table. “These instructions are useless and-” he flips through the booklet, “-thirty-two pages long, Jesus.”
Scully doesn’t respond; her eyes are glued to her own manual as she assembles a drawer from the second of the two nightstands. “Shh,” she hushes him softly. “I’m concentrating.”
“How have you managed to put any of these pieces together?” he asks, scooting across the floor to her. “There aren’t even words, just vague illustrations.”
She has a screw between her lips as she lines up two of the wood pieces. “I took wood shop in high school,” she says around the metal pin. She removes it and inserts it into a pre-drilled hole. “I guess that was some kind of preparation for assembling flatpack furniture?”
“That’s adorable,” Mulder says, rising to open a window. The room is stuffy with the day’s heat, and his t-shirt is glued to his back. “Do you still have any of the things you made in class?”
“The step stool in my kitchen,” she replies. “And my mom might have some things I’ve forgotten about.”
He casually strips off his sweaty t-shirt and tosses it in the laundry basket. “Remind me to look at that stool the next time we’re at your place,” he says. “Also I’m gonna order a pizza, you interested?”
Scully looks up at him then and is seemingly surprised by the absence of his shirt. “It’s hot in here,” Mulder explains, almost defensive.
“Oh, I’m not complaining,” Scully says, eyes shamelessly traveling his torso. “And I’m always interested.”
“Are we still talking about pizza here, or…”
“Make my half one with everything, please,” she says, attention returning to her project.
“Wait a minute,” he says, dropping to his knees next to her on the carpet. “I’m not done here.” He leans in and presses his mouth to the juncture of her neck and shoulder, tasting the salt on her skin. How she can still smell so good on a sticky June day, he doesn’t know; but he wants to lick her entire body.
“Mulder,” she sighs, putting down her screwdriver, “You’re distracting me.”
“That’s the idea,” he says, lips wandering up her neck and behind her ear. He flicks his tongue against her earlobe. “Forget the furniture, honey,” he says, all hot breath and lust. “We don’t need it for what I have in mind.”
Suddenly she’s facing him, looping her arms around his neck. “I’m doing this for you,” she purrs. “Do you think I like putting together IKEA furniture? No one likes it, Mulder. It’s like a multidimensional jigsaw puzzle.”
He pulls her onto his lap. “Oh, but I think you do,” he says, nibbling her ear. “You like being capable Doctor Scully, in charge of things… showing me what those hands can do.”
She leans in, licking his full lower lip. “Not everything is about you, Mulder,” she says, pressing a scorching kiss to his mouth. “I’m just doing my coworker a favor.”
“Is that what they call this nowadays?” he asks, hands clasping her hips as she grinds down on his lap.
She shuts him up with a kiss, the furniture and pizza forgotten.

Valentines Day for Nerds (Spencer Reid x Fem!Reader)
Summary: Spencer’s favourite holiday is often taken up mostly by work, but this year his enjoyment doesn’t seem to be as disruptive in the BAU bullpen. The team soon realise why.
AN: It’s a bit late- who am I kidding? IT’S ALWAYS HALLOWEEN IN OUR HEARTS! This was a part of @imagining-in-the-margins fic swap, for the brilliant @agntprentiss <3
For my smut fic from the swap, check out A Little Indulgence (18+ only!)
Reader uses she/her pronouns!
Word count: 1.7k words
Gif credit to @imagining-in-the-margins <3
Your name: submit What is this?
The first breach of boredom was Penelope practically skipping into the bullpen, her arms cradling a bouquet of flowers as if it were an infant. The bold orange roses contrasted with the dyed black petals of its counterparts as they were planted upon Spencer’s desk.
“Delivery for Doctor Reid!” trilled Penelope, clapping her hands now that they were free of said delivery. Dropping his pen onto his unfinished paperwork, Spencer pivoted the base of the bouquet before he found a small black envelope.
It held a little card with two pumpkins, happy faces carved into them both. Inside were the following words:
Black is for new beginnings,
Orange is for enthusiasm,
Spooky times are afoot tonight,
Watch out for ectoplasm!
I spent ten minutes trying to think of a rhyme for that. Happy Halloween, Cara Mia!
Y/N xxx
Spencer beamed as he placed the bouquet at the edge of his desk, next to the fake severed hand that now held the card in its stiff fingers. He scratched his bristly cheek. Less than a day until he could shave this off. It’d be worth it though.
“Is it from Y/N?”
He looked up to see Penelope had lingered like a lost spirit, waiting to see if her trials of passing on the bouquet had been worthy enough for her to move onto the next world – her Batcave. She was poised with a hopeful expression.
“Yes,” Spencer said, watching Penelope lean up on her tiptoes as she tried to rein in her delight.
She clapped her hands, her purple painted nails clicking as they tapped together, “Are my two favourite ghost hunters up to much this Hallow’s Eve?”
“We’re going to see the Phantasmagoria re-enactment after we go trick-or-treating with Henry tonight.”
It was hard to ignore the absolute glee with which Spencer spoke. Even if one completely ignored the way his voice carried a light excitement, the way his eyes lit up and his broad smile almost fell off his face was enough to connote that he was very excited for tonight. It was also hard to ignore the mild bemusement on the faces of everyone who heard.
Glad to be back and bearing witness to his elated behaviour regardless, Emily cracked a smile, “Maybe she’ll cling to you when she gets scared.”
A heat crawled up Spencer’s neck and he tried to return to work now in hopes that his gift’s display would be cut off. He’d rather sit in the glow of receiving the flowers without mockery.
To the team’s credit, no one ribbed him for it.
The flowers were not the last gift though.
Soon Penelope reappeared, “Your Cupid has returned with another gift for you!”
As he tore at the paper and revealed an Edgar Allen Poe pin – the titular Raven he instantly attached it to his satchel strap – in pride of place, just like the bouquet.
Derek was the one to notice how Spencer’s sandwiches had been cut into little pumpkins. Some digging and Spencer revealed that he had gotten Y/N to order a cutter online. He held his lunch in one hand, his collection of classic Halloween short stories in the other, with a childish glee that no one wanted to squander.
When Spencer climbed the steps to drop off a file to Hotch around mid-afternoon, Rossi walking behind him noted the brand-new socks. A classic odd pairing, and obviously they were Halloween themed. This kid left no opportunity untaken when it came to celebrating Halloween – more than his own birthday.
But Rossi was not closed enough to get a good look at them, and no one else was as close. So, he recruited Emily and Derek to discover what the pattern was. It was Emily and Derek who upped the stakes by wanting to get a glimpse without arousing suspicion. Now that outright asking Spencer was not an option, the game began as they dropped several pens as an excuse to bend over and strain for a flash of those socks.
Derek eventually resorted to a pantomime attempt at tripping in front of Spencer’s desk and gave the jig up straight away by shouting to a stressed Emily (whilst also catching the attention of Hotch through his office’s blinds): “IT’S IT!”
A few language barriers hurdled later, and hindsight brought them both clarity. The red splodge on Spencer’s ankle was officially defined as a balloon.
“So tell us! What’s the other one?” Emily said, her voice strained with how much she was invested in this single sock.
Spencer hiked up his trouser leg to display the skeletal zombie sewn into the sock. “It’s Curtis Danko from When Good Ghouls Go Bad. Y/N had it commissioned for me!”
JJ was watching nearby, unaffected by the tensions of the sock bet. She knew the film because Y/N had wanted to show it to Henry the other week when she babysat him. But upon further inspection, the R.L. Stine film – while intended for kids – might be a little intimidating for Henry to watch without his profiler mother and godfather, police officer father, and favourite auntie there to protect him from the cursed statue.
No one else in the bullpen knew the film.
The team soon discovered that Spencer was not the only one to be on the receiving end of such gifts. Six o’clock rolled around and Y/N entered the bullpen. She was wearing a fuzzy black scarf, some sparkles shining within the wool. At the tail of it, a lucky black cat patch was sewn onto the end. It caught Rossi’s eye and he hid behind a folder as he smiled. The three times that Spencer had forgone a card game with him (in favour of knitting the scarf on the flights back from cases) had been riddled with playful teasing. It was good to see that it was worth it.
Especially when Spencer saw Y/N wearing it and his back snapped straight up. His chair flew backwards, spinning around with the effort that Spencer had launched himself from it, and he and Y/N embraced each other with casual affection.
“How was work today?”
“Not as boring as I thought. But, I have to say: I’m meant to call you Cara Mia.” Spencer’s eyes darted to the card Y/N had sent that morning.
Y/N caught onto his meaning, “Should I stop?”
“Never.”
She rubbed her nose against his and Spencer went pink again, giggling like a teenager. True, he was as smitten with Y/N as Gomez was with Morticia. Then he remembered he was in the workplace as Y/N went to greet the rest of the team, and Spencer’s pink became a scarlet.
“Aww, Pretty Boy,” Derek grinned at him from his desk chair, “You’re so cute!”
“It’s like Sergio!” Emily said, admiring the scarf with her thumb rubbing over the stitches around the cat patch.
“Make sure he’s safe tonight,” Y/N squeezed her hands for a second.
Then JJ appeared from her office, coat and bag over her arm, and she, Y/N, and Spencer wished the bullpen a Happy Halloween before they left.
They had three hours before the Phantasmagoria started. Plenty of time to get ready.
Henry was right behind the front door of his home. The second it opened, he bounced at Spencer’s feet, his tiny hand clutching onto two of his fingers to drag him inside. He was babbling away at such speed that Y/N could barely keep up. She gave Will a wave across the ironing board where he was diligently ironing Will’s cape.
“Well don’t you look handsome!” Y/N beamed at Henry while JJ combed his hair back, slick with gel. It was something he agreed to but only if Spencer was doing the same. Which he was, occupying the downstairs bathroom as he prepared his own costume.
The moment Spencer had finished shaving everything bar the moustache, he was plonked in front of the television. Henry smoothed out his cloak and put in his plastic fangs in to watch the rest of his new favourite Halloween film, The Little Vampire. He mumbled along with Rudolph’s lines and sat enraptured as he pointed out to Spencer the flying scenes. Luckily for him, Will and JJ were getting dressed as Frederick and Freda Sackville-Bagg upstairs to join in the Halloween spirit – last year’s Halloween date night disaster long forgotten.
Henry put in his plastic fangs and hissed at Y/N who emerged in her long sleek black dress. As she stepped across the room as elegantly as Morticia, Spence spied that she was wearing the black spiderweb tights he had bought her today.
“Hello, Gomez,” She smiled radiantly at Spencer, smoothing out his suit jacket as he stood before her. He presented her with a red rose that matched her lipstick to a tee.
As she breathed in the flower’s scent, he kissed her cheek, enjoying her giggle at the bristle of his ‘stache, “You’re stunning.”
“Thank you, and you’re handsome as ever.” She swung their linked hands between them in the opposite way she poised on her tiptoes. “Maybe we should have taken a tango class.”
And she laughed loudly at Spencer’s wincing at such a thought.
“It’s ok, Cara Mia. I’ll settle for a kiss instead.”
Oh, that was something he could do forever. He brought her hands to his lips and kissed her knuckles then the inside of each wrist.
Unfortunately, Henry interrupted the stream of kisses that were headed in Y/N’s way. “Ready to go!” He skipped his way between the happy couple.
It was hard to be mad at Henry, especially with how adorable he looked beside his parents and with his bright orange pumpkin bag ready to collect candy. He felt safe with his four favourite adults guarding him.
“Tonight,” Y/N whispered into his ear and he could hear the smirk in her words, “After the Phantasmagoria.”
Spencer beamed, his dimples delightfully framing that smile. One day maybe, they would have their own Wednesday, Pugsley, and Pubert to join them. And maybe then Derek would dress up as Uncle Fester.

I loved your Edward Cullen piece! I feel that that he would have a constant sexual urge brimming underneath and you accurately portrayed it boiling over. May i request another piece on how the MC and Esward met?
A/N: Sorry this took a bit, writers block + still being in school was tough but I managed, even If i’m not all that happy with the result! Prob will do a part 2 sorry the dialogue is awkward. I imagined like a scenario like the cannon universe where edward is into her but also scared of harming her but hes also just a teen boy with his first crush, both Y/n and edward arent sure how to act with it.
Tw: Being scared to walk alone at night?? Idk just put that just in case!!
The midnight wind blew through Y/n’s hair, a chill running up her spine not just from the cold, but with every set of glowing headlights that passed her by. Y/n was never one to walk around at night, the fear of what may lurk had been pushed upon her since she was a child, and now as she wandered the dim streets her chest felt so tight with fear she wasn’t sure if she could breathe. Y/n wished she had accepted Dr. Cullens offer of a ride home, but she didn’t want to inconvenience the man and instead lied about taking a taxi. Her and Dr. Cullen had become close over the past few weeks that she had been volunteering at the hospital, hoping to gain experience when she applied to universities to be a doctor. The two were inseparable there, Y/n watching with wide eyes and bated breath whatever the doctor did, and Carlisle carefully walking her through step by step the process of what he was doing.
She pulled her sweater tighter around her body as she rounded the corner into an alleyway her e/c coloured eyes darting around. She could see her breath as she tried to calm her breathing, but that was proved futile when she stepped on a can, the loud crunch startling a scream out of her. “Get it together Y/n.” She muttered, squeezing her eyes shut for a moment, trying to regain composure as she heard distant voices approaching. Her hand, stiff from cold, dug into her pocket, grabbing her keys and sticking them through the paces between her fingers. Feeling a little better, Y/n continued her walk.
Y/n had to admit, despite her terror, the night time in forks was beautiful. The way the streets were illuminated by the passing headlights of cars, and the occasional coloured lights of stores reflected through the puddles that seemed to forever be there in the rainy city had the ability to take her breath away despite how small they were. The awe of the neon painted town distracted her from the silent footsteps coming behind her.
“Y/n?” Spoke a familiar voice. She spun around at the sound of her name, her grip on her keys tightened, only to loosen a bit when she recognized the man in front of her. Edward Cullen. “It’s late, why are you out here alone? You must be cold.” Y/n hadn't talked to the Cullen boy before, or really any Cullen other than Carlisle. At school the Cullen kids seemed like an untouchable group, but seeing him now, soaking wet, she felt as if he wasn't so high above the rest as everyone thought.
“I-I’m fine. Just a little chilly.” She lied, feeling the chill seep past the wet sweater she wore and into her body. The Cullen boy seemed to notice it was a lie, taking off his jacket and placing it over her shoulders in a fluid movement. “But won’t you get--”
“I don’t get cold easily.” Edward cut off her question, “Besides, my car is nearby. It’ll be warm in there.”
“No no it’s fine I’ll just take a cab.” Y/n said quickly, though the feeling of being in a warm car filled her thoughts she didn’t want to inconvenience anyone and much preferred to do things on her own despite her empty wallet disagreeing.
“It’ll be no inconvenience, besides It’ll save you money.” He replied as if he read her mind. Y/n opened her mouth to come up with a reason to not go with him but all that came out was a sneeze.
“See, you’re already catching a cold. Lets go.” Edward put his hand on the small of her back and began to lead Y/n to a Volvo parked on the side of the road. Y/n felt bad for bothering him but she could feel herself getting sicker with every sniffle, and her body was ice cold. She really wished she had initially accepted Dr. Cullen’s offer for a ride, fear dawning on her as she realized she would have to call in sick. If Edward noticed how she was feeling, he didn’t show it, staying silent as he ushered her into the car and passed her a blanket he had stored inside.
The car ride was quiet, the air between the two thick and awkward as they both figured out what to say. Y/n wished she could read minds, know what he was thinking. She hoped he wouldn’t tell Dr.Cullen about the meeting between the two, not wanting to appear like she rejected his car ride for any reason other than her own stupid independence. Y/n was about to say something, a question about how he found the weather, anything to make the ride less awkward, when he pulled up to her house. Quick pleasantries were exchanged between the two and Y/n headed inside, only realizing she had Edwards' coat once he had pulled away.
For the next few days the Cullen's were no shows at school. Y/n had the coat stashed in her locker to give to him, and yet she couldn’t find him. It drove Y/n insane. Every day she would walk into the cafeteria ready to finally get rid of this coat whose presence was weighing heavy on her subconscious, only to face disappointment when he wasn’t there. She knew a jacket wasn’t all that important in the long term, but it smelled so much like Edward’s car and reminded her of him and his stupidly attractive face, Y/n wanted to rid herself of it before her budding crush blossomed into a full blown one. It took a few days for Y/n to muster up the courage to talk to Dr.Cullen about it. Worries filled the back of her mind that he would think her to be stupid or weird, but as the were cleaning up for the night Y/n decided to bite the bullet.
Y/n sprayed the sharp smelling sanitizer on the table, wiping it down with a cloth and repeating on the next, her lips pursed as she thought of how to bring up the situation to the doctor across the room from her, who was busy looking over papers. Luckily the blonde seemed to notice first, standing up from his seat and walking over.
“Y/n, what’s on your mind?” He asked casually yet looking at her with the look of concern only a father could give.
“Well a while ago, when you offered me a ride home because my car was in the shop and I said no and I would take a taxi, I actually decided to walk home because I didn’t want to bother you and then I ran into your son Edward and he gave me a ride home, but then I forgot to give it back to him, so could you?” Y/n asked, her words spilling out of her mouth quickly, glad she could finally get the situation off her chest.
Carlisle chuckled, grabbing a sticky note and writing on it, handing it to Y/n. “I have got to stay late but here’s my address. You can go give him it now or later.”
Y/n nodded, giddy with the excitement of finally getting away from the burden of having to return the coat. “You’ll be fine here without me?” she asked cautiously before she got too excited.
Carlisle nodded. “Yes, go give my son his coat. And tell him he needs to wear it more often.”
The Cullen’s house was beautiful at night. A mansion buried in the woods, it seemed so serene. Y/n wished she lived there so she could gaze out of the many lit up windows and into the forest. But there was no time for daydreaming about the lush scenery, Y/n was on a mission. She held the grey fabric tightly as she stepped out of the car, nervously approaching the door. She hadn’t heard of anyone going to the Cullen’s house, was she the first from her school? She was nervous as she approached the door, about to knock when the door opened, revealing a small teen with a dark pixie cut. Was it Alexa Cullen? Y/n wasn’t too sure on their names.
“Edward, a cute girl is here for you!” The girl, possibly named Alexa, shouted into the house. “You are here for Edward right?”
“Uh, yeah…” Y/n said awkwardly, looking to the ground and tightening her grasp on the jacket, looking at the pavement that was illuminated by the open door. After a few moments of silence the light disappeared and she looked up, her eyes meeting Edward’s piercing amber ones that seemed to know her deepest secrets.
“I’ll leave you two lovebirds at it” the girl chimed, closing the door and locking Edward outside.
“Sorry about my sister Alice, she’s a little…odd” Edward trailed off, looking to the side. Y/n was glad to know the name of the girl before, but also happy to just look at Edward, as creepy as it sounded. He looked perfect as always, hardly a strawberry blonde hair out of place, and those that were just made him look more perfect. Y/n could feel herself falling hard. Ever since the night he helped her out he seemed irresistible.
“It’s fine…” Y/n replied, the two sitting in silence for a while before Y/n remembered her task. “Oh here, I came to bring you your coat. So, uh, yeah..” She pressed the balled up grey coat into his hands. “Carlisle said you need to wear it more.”
Edward let out a chuckle. “I guess I’ll have to…” he stared at the grey fabric as if it would tell him what to say next.
“So I’ll go then?” Y/n said, though it sounded like a question. She didn’t want to bother him more than needed and began so walk away, pausing only when she heard his voice.
“Wait, before you go. Dinner, Friday, at eight? To make up for the effort you put in giving me my jacket back.” Y/n felt butterflies fly through her stomach, wondering if he possibly liked her back.
“Dinner… sounds good…” Y/n blushed with a smile to the ground, waiting for him to go back inside before giddily running back to her car. “I got a date with Edward Cullen!” She sang to herself as she pulled out of the driveway, oblivious to her crush smiling inside the house at her thoughts.

Something in the Rain - “Finding Solid Ground”
A/N: Hi all! This chapter has been in the drafts for quite sometime now but I only had the time to pick up the writing. Thank you so much for your patience with my slow updates but rest assured, I absolutely love this story and daydream about the chapters ahead. As always, your comment and suggestions help a lot moving this story forward. Hope you all are keeping safe and healthy! Till the next one!
AO3 / C1: A Day In June : C2: Definitely, Maybe : C3: So We Meet Again : C4: Friday Lunch
XXXXX
She was 45 minutes late.
Claire was running as fast as she could, catching some curious eyes on her as she raced towards Mrs. Kim’s Korean Street Food Hub to hopefully, still catch Jamie for their lunch.
She got off from her morning surgery quite late due to some complications but she still went as courtesy and because, in all honesty, she still wanted to see him. Their last encounter kind of left them in an awkward place and she was hoping that this meeting could help clarify some things. She has been waiting for this all week but alas, life (and medicine) had other plans.
Claire entered the store and knew instantly that he wasn’t there. The place was empty after the lunch rush and she sighed in disappointment.
“Claire!” Mrs. Kim suddenly called out. “This is for you, left by your friend”, she said while handing her a piece of paper.
“Thank you” Claire replied, opening it on spot.
Hi Claire,
Sorry, I left before you arrived but I have to get back to the office. Don’t worry about the wait, I really don’t mind but I just have a packed schedule today.
Forgive me if this is too forward but here’s my number. No pressure! Just figured we can text or call whenever is a better time to catch up. Just hit me up when you feel like it and I’ll be on the other line.
I do hope to hear from you soon. If not, I’ll be here next Friday, same time :)
Jamie
Claire did not waste any more time and punched in Jamie’s mobile number to call. After three rings, he answered.
“Hello?”
“Jamie? It’s me, Claire.”
“Claire, hi! I see you got my note.”
“I did. I am so sorry. My surgery ran a little bit long and…”
“Don’t worry, I figured that must be it.” he said cheerfully, cutting her off before she went into a long explanation. “I mean, you save lives and all, couldn’t be angry about that.”
Claire sighed relief on the other line and couldn’t believe just how understanding he is. So understanding that she’s starting to wonder if he’s even real. She hasn't really met anyone that chivalrous and it captures her.
“Oh, wow. Thank you - and thank you for the note and your number. My guilt would’ve eaten me alive if I couldn’t apologize to you.”
“You don’t think it was too forward?”
“No, not at all. To be honest, I was going to ask it last week before we got, erm, interrupted.”
“Well, that’s good to know. And in any case, I would’ve given it.” Jamie said.
She could hear his smile from the other line and she couldn’t help but smile too.
“Anyhow,” Claire followed. “I am so sorry I missed you today. To make up for it, would you happen to be doing anything tomorrow?”
“Hmm, let me check." Jamie checked his board calendar. "Nope, my weekend is free. Anything you had in mind?”
“Well, if you’re up for it, I’d like to invite you to the center tomorrow, see what we’re doing with the kids. Fair warning though, they get a little rowdy sometimes.”
“I’m game! Text me the details and what time to meet you.”
“Really? Great! Sure, I’ll text you the details in a bit”
“Will wait for it. Claire, sorry to cut this short but I have to run to a meeting. I’ll see you tomorrow?”
“Oh no, please. Go ahead. I’ll see you tomorrow, Alright, bye!”
-
It was a Saturday, two weeks since their encounter by the crossing, and now she’s waiting for him to arrive and bring him to one of the most special places for her.
Claire hadn’t absolutely thought through what inviting Jamie to the center would mean. Reflecting on yesterday, a part of Claire thought she may have panicked and this invite might’ve been a mistake. On another end was a part of her that was excited to see him and if she was really being honest, spend time with him, and show her the work they have been doing.
She had told her their meeting story and the extended invite to her friends and staff but left out the part about their lunches. She messaged the team on WhatsApp about their upcoming guest and her inbox has blown with messages asking her for more details about the man himself. She messaged that they’ll be able to find out for themselves tomorrow when they meet him and turned off her phone.
“Claire?” Deep in thought she hadn’t seen or hear Jamie arrive. “You okay?”
“Yeah, sorry. Spaced out there for a bit” she embarrassingly admitted.
“A penny for your thoughts?” Jamie asked as Claire pointed the way in.
“Erm, nothing much. Just thinking about giving you fair warning about everyone upstairs. They’re quite curious about you, Jamie Fraser.” she said jokingly the half truth.
Jamie got a bit nervous suddenly and Claire felt it. “Don’t worry about it, I’ll save you if they get too rowdy. Be ready to answer questions though." She said, smiling, hoping to ease his thoughts.
“Is any topic off limits? Should I not mention anything to them?”
“I leave it to you. But if you ask me, just be yourself and charm everyone away”
Jamie chuckled and Claire turned to him. “What?”
“You think I’m charming?”
Claire laughed and smacked him in the arm. “Oh, bug off!”
“I’ll take that as a yes”
“Anyway!” Claire interrupted. “Today’s event is just art and crafts and a story session. The rest, the kids can do and play how ever they like. I usually just play with any kid who asks me to and time just flies and suddenly, the afternoon is done.”
“Got it. I honestly hope I can help more than distract or whatever”
“Pssh, you’ll be fine, Jamie. You’ll be fine”
--
The moment the elevator doors opened, a line of people greeted Jamie and Claire at the entrance.
“Hello, everyone” Claire greeted but to her surprise, no one spoke or moved. Everyone was just looking at Jamie. “This is Jamie. Jamie Fraser, our guest for today”
She ushered them closer to the stunned group and began to introduce them one by one.
Mary, the receptionist and admin assistant.
Mrs. Graham, the secretariat and head of operations.
Joe, also a surgeon from Claire’s hospital.
Frank, the history professor he’d met a week earlier.
Geilis, a botanist and herbalist.
“It’s nice to meet you all. Thank you for having me this afternoon.” Jamie said and it was only then that the ice was broken.
“Hi, Jamie was it? Can I call you Jamie?” Mrs. Graham prodded.
“Yes, Mam”
“Alright, this way. Let me show you around”
As Mrs. Graham swept Jamie away for a short tour, the rest of the group crowded Claire with questions.
“Okay, he is even more handsome than in the pictures!” Geilis excitedly said.
“Pictures?” Claire asked.
“Ugh, I sometimes forget you’re a doctor who needs to catch up to the times” Geilis pinched her nose jokingly. “Jamie was named one of Scotland’s most eligible bachelors in a tatler magazine last year. There’s pretty striking photos of him in a tux and in casual clothes.”
“I remember that issue. Gail had one lying in the house and I happen to peruse it one time. You’re right, the pictures don’t do him justice.” Joe chimed in.
“I had no idea. I mean, I just literally bumped into the guy on the street!” Claire said, a curiosity pooling in her mind. She had to look for that magazine later.
“Such a meet-cute story. Ugh, Claire! It’s like something out of the books or movies” Geilis added.
“Psh, he seems too manly for me. I mean, who is that fit and that put together.” Frank mused.
“I think he’s quite charming” Joe added.
“If you ask me, Claire, I don’t know what’s going on between you two but keep it going” Geilis added.
“Aish, nothing is going on. I just extended a polite invite to make up for - “ Claire stopped as Jamie and Mrs. Graham arrived back, thankful for the Interruption.
“Make up for what?” Geilis asked, not missing that info.
“Oh, nothing.”
“Mhm” Geilis hummed raising an eyebrow to Claire. She’ll pull it out of her later.
---
It was a long but fun afternoon for everyone.
Afterwards, one by one, the space cleared out, the kids were picked up, saying goodbye to the staff with some even approaching and waving at Jamie as they left, leaving him with a heartwarming feeling.
“Well, another successful weekend, folks!” Frank called out and the team gave themselves applause.
“Great job to Joe and Mary for taking on the storytelling and painting sessions this afternoon and I would also like to thank our guest, Jamie, for being patient and helpful with the kids” Mrs. Graham added, earning another group applause.
“Thank ye, I hope I helped at all today but otherwise, I enjoyed today and thank ye for inviting me.” Jamie shared.
“Come join us anytime” Joe patted him on the back. “Alright, everyone, have a goodnight. See you all next week, I’ll bring Gail and Lenny along.” With that he made a way for the elevator and it was everyone’s cue to leave.
Claire approached Jamie just as he was going to her. “Well, how are you and how was it?” she asked. If she expected to spend time with Jamie, well, it didn’t happen. First, he was whisked away by Mrs. Graham. Afterwards, it was Joe asking help to build his set. Next up was Mary who got him assisting on getting and serving the food, and the rest of the time, it was kids calling out on Jamie here and there and he was more than happy to oblige.
“Fun and a little bit tiring” he replied and Claire gave a small laugh. “But in all honesty, thank ye for inviting me to come here. Made me miss my niece and nephew”
“I’m glad you had fun and I’m glad you got to see what we’re doing here.”
Jamie might be overthinking things but he knew that Claire sharing this part of her to him seems like a big thing and he intends to cherish that.
“Anyway, I’d like to offer to drive ye home...or to the nearest bus stop” he added, panicking he put her in a tight spot.
Claire paused, eyed him jokingly, intentionally making him more flush and nervous.
“I’d take that offer but” she began and Jamie swallowed the lump on his throat, “I actually live nearby so we don’t need to drive”
“Okay,” Jamie sighed in relief which Claire found very cute. “Lead the way, then”

Lost Tomb Reboot Lewks: Part 12
(Masterpost) (Other Canary Stuff)
Warning: Spoilers for both seasons of The Lost Tomb Reboot
Look 61
The first look is Wu Xie’s road trip outfit, which includes this grey and white jacket. It has a contrasting elastic waistband, cuffs, and neckline, and slanted pockets.
This is exactly the sort of jacket that my 5th grade science teacher would have worn in 1979, and she would have slayed in it. She awakened something in me and it wasn’t love of STEM. (Spock was responsible for my love of STEM, and various other awakenings in 5th-grade me) I’m sure it would still look great on her, because she is probably a silver haired foxy granny now, and that’s who this jacket belongs on in the current century.
Wu Xie should never have gotten within a mile of this old lady jacket.
To clarify, I’m not being gender-essentialist here; I’m being ageist. If this jacket had some contemporary detailing or interesting features to offset its last-century vibe, the way Bai Haotian’s green roller derby jacket does, it would be fine even though I’m not a fan of this sort of collar in menswear. But it’s just a nicely-made old lady jacket. Mary Berry could bake a nice cake while wearing this jacket.
Note: Liu Sang could wear the hell out of this jacket, of course, because that man can wear literally anything and make it look like it’s made of spun pheromones.
(more after the cut!)
Wu Xie eventually improves this look by taking the jacket off and giving the camera operator a nice long look at his ass. He’s wearing dark jeans and a long-sleeve white thermal shirt, which is a great improvement.
Look 62
The granny jacket is contrasted by the blessed arrival of Huo Daofu’s daddy jacket, and the rest of the clothing that Huo Daofu is wearing with it. This is a dark green jacket with a nipped in waist, military styling, and invisible stitching that says "obey" You can't see it, but oh, it's there.
He's wearing this jacket of domination with jeans so tight they appear to be made of paint. I approve of these jeans so much that I might need to take a break from writing for a moment.
Instead of shoes he’s opted for a pair of tall riding boots, just in case anyone failed to get the message.
He finishes off this look with gold rimmed glasses, pomegranate-toned lips, and an air of authority so strong that even Pangzi does what he tells him to with minimal back chat.
Later the jacket comes off, so he can wrap it solicitously around the shoulders of a person who is already wearing a perfectly good jacket. OP looks up “service top” in the dictionary.
Underneath, Huo Daofu is wearing a grey houndstooth waistcoat. Shen Wei’s tailor would gnash his teeth in envy, if he saw the cut of this vest. This tops off a warm-toned brown shirt worn with a silver-toned watch. The watch is...round, and it tells time. He’s wearing a brown belt with his black jeans. Huo Daofu is great at combining warm and cool, formal and casual, in a single look.
Look at this dapper bitch. Slaying this hard has got to be against his Hippocratic oath.
This jacket-free look is combined with hip posture so provocative that it sends Wu Xie into a hasty search for the last scraps of his heteronormative assumptions. Xiao Bai does her best to help.
Look 63
The beards.
OP's family of origin is full of hairy visigoths, so Pangzi's beard is a style I've encountered before, alas. We call this a [US] Civil War beard. This one is terrible and lopsided, but at least it covers a lot of Pangzi’s face.
Wu Xie’s fake facial hair isn't terrible, but isn't great. You can tell it’s fake because everything about Zhu Yilong is inherently lovely, and this isn’t.
Also, it's a ridiculous idea for a disguise. Wu Xie's close-trimmed chin patch and mustache are nice style, very typical for a Chinese dude. They let Wu Xie’s lovely facial structure continue to do its thing while they just provide a bit of an accent. But this is a problem, because they don't change his appearance in any meaningful way; his cheekbones are still visible from orbit.
He’s wearing this facial hair and cap with the same vest he wore earlier to practice slingshot. This time he's accessorizing with a simple tan jacket, with an interesting buttonhole detail...
...and with an attractive human IV stand.
Doctor doctor, give me the news, I've got a bad case of loving you you loving me.
Look 64
This look belongs to the man that Jia Kezale’s wife has replaced him with. We have to infer his look based on his shoes, and that he is presumably in the same league as the extremely hot Jia Kezale.
Based on these shoes, which are very nice, if a little weathered, Huarache-style loafers, this other man in her life also presumably wears linen trousers and a guayabera shirt.
*mentally pictures this person*
ok, I guess I don't blame her.
[Image, and shirts, from cubavera dot com]
Look 65
After having his IV fluids, Wu Xie goes for a nighttime motorbike ride, because he apparently needs to go way up on a hill to see that the hotel he’s staying in is circular.
So, what is with the Ultraman motorcycle helmet? Does it have any padding or insulation at all? Why doesn’t it cover more than 40 percent of his head and face?
And shouldn't it have a chin strap? How does it stay on in a crash? I mean yes I know this is a show with sentient crustaceans...yeah, never mind. I’m sure that’s a super effective helmet.
Once the rain starts, his mustache and beard look better. Still not great, but better. Here he looks like he’s cosplaying as Zhou Yunlan.
Now he’s wet and lying on the ground because...oh, hell if I remember. Just look at him, poor moist snookums. He needs a blankie and a hot tea and a hurt-comfort fic about him and his doctor.
This look gives the newest members of the polycule an opportunity to demonstrate their devotion, as they haul him off the motorcycle and over to a wall, and then continue to stand in the rain, for some reason, instead of going indoors.
I gotta say, when a producer decides to pour water on Zhu Yilong, they commit to it.
Speaking of commitment, here’s Huo Daofu holding his hand up over Wu Xie’s face like a tiny umbrella.
Bonus 1
Look at the yellow duffle coat on that kid. She looks beautiful and classic, and the mustard yellow color just pops so nicely in this scene.
The mustard yellow also visually marks her allegiance to gold-dragon-wearing Xue Wu.
Bonus 2
This look is Wu Xie’s antique-scheming outfit, but now he is wearing the Sunglasses of Manpain. They belong to Pangzi, but Wu Xie is wearing them while he waits for Pangzi to collect his angst from the morgue.
These sunglasses are good to wear while contemplating the fact that, despite the many differences in narrative tropes between Chinese and Western media, the one where a female character is hurt and/or dies merely to further a male character's emotional development remains a constant.
That said, this is a nice small signifier of their relationship, as he puts these glasses on Pangzi, allowing him to hide his feelings, while hugging him, allowing him to express his feelings.

Hi!! I saw your requests were open, so uh could I request an Ikevamp headcanon for Arthur, Theo, Vincent and Isaac reacting an MC who is super energetic. Like, as in she could literally dance around the mansion without having a care in the world? ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
Yeah lol pls feel free to take your time with this request and have a nice day!! ༼ つ ◕◡◕ ༽つ
This is cute 😳😳
This ended up being wayyy longer than i thought it would be. Arthur's part went deeper than i thought it would be-
This is probably one of my longest headcanon/scenario, i hope you enjoy 😌
.
.
Lets say for context, MC is sweeping through the hall while humming, and as time went by her humming becomes louder. Eventually she straights up start singing while twirling and dancing around
Arthur
The first encounter with this trait of MC kind of surprised him. He wasn't expecting young lady to be this active and bright
Gets along very well with her actually
He doesn't mind her energetic personality, but sometimes in gets in the way when he is working on his stories.
He doesn't see her as "annoying" like what most people woukd describe her
He just thinks that she has so many things in her mind (in a good way) that she expresses them all at once //my mans pulling off a doctor doyle 😳
Arthur was in his room, trying to concentrate on his writing when he heard MC singing loudly outside
"I dare say, she is one active lady." Arthur said to himself as he exhaled.
Arthur got up and openned his bedroom door, revealing MC who was singing and dancing around with the broom
MC noticed arthur who was leaning on the door frame with a defeated expression
"Good afternoon to you arthur!" MC greeted him cheerfully, which then she went back to singing and dancing around
"Good afternoon to you too, dear" arthur said which MC probably didn't hear
Once he tried flirting with her but it all flew over her head
This one time MC and arthur was left alone and he tried to make a move on her
Arthur leaned over to MC's ear and whispered
MC seemed unbothered and let him lean over to her
"Seems like we're left alone, love.. would you like to have some fun?" Arthur whispered suggestively
MC was an innocent and very bright girl but she wasn't stupid
"Hm? No. Oh! Arthur can i ask you something?" MC asked unbothered by arthurs invitation
This took him by surprise
"Oh..ehm, go ahead poppet."
"Am i annoying?"
Arthur was blown away by her question.
"Annoying? No, no. That's not it, love. Why do you ask?" Arthur asked her curiously. He wasn't expecting this question from her.
"Ahahaha..! It's nothing important, its just when i lay down at night, i start realizing the unpleasant looks i get from some people whenever im doing something or saying something. I tell myself not to be annoying but i lose control of myself the next day." MC said cheerfully as if what she felt wasn't anything serious at all
Arthur felt really bad after hearing that. He realized that she was being misundertood badly.
He realized that behind that cheerfull personality, she had such deep thoughts
He wasn't expecting her to reveal her most vulnerable side to him out of everyone
He realized that the time he looked defeated arounded MC must have been in her memories
"Oh..oh dear me. I didn't know you felt that way, and im sorry if im one of those people who made you feel that way." Arthur said, with a sympathetic look on his face.
Arthur realized that MC never wanted to cause discomfort to anyone with how she is.
"Hmm i probably sounded REAL silly with what im saying, you can pretend that i never said anything, honestly!" MC said casually as she got up from her chair
"Wait! Hang on a second, poppet. Sit back down" arthur said as he gestured her to sit down, which she did
"I dont think you are annoying. You are just misunderstood, love. It seems to me that you have many going on in your mind that you express them all at once, like a big ball of energy." Arthur explained to her
MC's eyes widen
She found his explanation rather accurate
"Oh..you..you think so?" MC said taken back by the way arthur described her
"Yes, yes. I have an idea for you, poppet. If you want to learn how to express yourself better, how about you try writing all the things in your mind- in any form you want." Arthur suggested
MC's face lit up
"That sounds very fun!" MC exclaimed
"In fact, i want to do it now!" MC said as she jolted off her seat hurrying over to the door
"Oh, and thankyou very much arthur. You are the first person to understand how i feel" MC said smiling genuinely as she headed out
Arthur felt his heart skip a beat.
Without realizing, his cheeks were tinted pink
"By jove! What is this feeling?" Arthur said to himself
Surprisingly, MC was seen in the library writing away in peace most of the time, when she isn't doing her chores
If arthur was working on his own work, MC would sit next to him and start writing aswell
She would write poems
Everyone was worried if MC had fell sick because it was very unusual for her to be this quiet, but arthur just explained that she found herself a new hobby.
Mc would show arthur what she had written, and arthur woukd be blown away everytime.
Everyone got curious with what MC was writing, and when they read her poems, their brains just melted away
Even when vincent brought one of her poems to shakespeare, he became shookspeare
Everyone actually encouraged her to publish her works to the public
MC was excited with that idea, but she said she would give it a thought
Occasionally MC would be the ball of energy she was, but she settled down more
Vincent
He would find it extremely adorable!
Just combine MC and Vincent together would make them the angels of all angels
For context, vincent would be entering the mansions gate after visiting shakespeare
He noticed a dancing figure in the hallway through the window
As he entered the mansion, he could already hear MC's singing voice from the second floor
He goes upstairs and there was MC singing and dancing around with the broom
"Hello MC! You seem very energetic as always" vincent greeted with a smile
He would ask MC if she was singing a song from her time period
He would even ask her to teach him how to sing the song
Vincent isn't an energetic person, but MC's personality rubbed onto him
He would only be energetic around her as she is basically the catalyst xD
Vincent would end up dancing around with her, spinning around through the hallway, laughing and singing
The night after goofing around with MC, she was stuck in his head
He got up from his bed and went over to his art supplies.
He had the strong urge to paint her
The way she danced, sung, and laughed created a crystal clear image in his head
After spending the whole night painting, he was knocked out asleep from morning to afternoon
MC was sent by sebastian to wake him up
She recieved no answer when she knocked, which then she invited herself in
When she came in she saw a beautifully done painting of her
Feeling her heart skip a beat
For once she felt really shy instead of her energetic self
"V-vincent, its afternoon" MC shook his shoulder gently
Stirring up, vincent woke up
"Oh..good afternoon MC. Thats strange, usually you would yell at everyone to wake them up."
Being fully awake, he noticed that her cheeks were tinted red
"Whats wrong MC? You seem rather flushed" vincent asked softly
"The painting.. it's beautiful." MC said, smiling shyly
Realizing his painting was exposed in his room, he blushed into a deep shade of red.
He wasn't mentally ready for anyone ESPECIALLY her to see it
It went silent for a moment and they both avoided eye contact
Not being able to take any more of the awkward air, MC went back into character
She started giggling
"W-what are you embarrased for vincent?" MC said surpressing a laugh
"You tell me MC." Vincent said with a chuckle finally melting away from the awkward situation
Eventually they were both laughing full of joy, even everyone was wondering what was going on in vincent's room
Long story short, they are the inseperable ball of joy 😌
Theodorus
He finds it SO iritating but he can't bring himself to hate her
Despite being so annoying she still had that angelic aura that reminded him of vincent
He already finds the mansion's residents irritating (except vincent ofc) and they arent even as energetic as MC
Wont admit that he adores her at the same time
"HONDJE! For the last time, shut up!" Theodorus shouted, his head poking out of his bedroom door
He was trying to have his afternoon nap after a long day of wheeling and dealing some art.
"Dancing and singing is good for the mind and body! Would you like to join theo?" MC said ignoring his harsh tone
Looking at her with annoyance painted on his face, he glared at her then slammed his bedroom door shut
"Guess he doesn't.." MC said to herself, continuing to sing and dance around
A few hours after that theo payed vincent a visit in his room
He wanted to ask him for advice on how to deal with how loud and energetic MC is
He would have asked arthur but he would most likely give him advice on how to get into her pants
"Come in, what's bothering you?" Vincent invited him, noticing the conflicted look his brother had
Theo sighed folding his arms
"Broer, how do i get hondje to shut up? I keep yelling at her but she never stops" Theo asked, irritation clear in his voice
"Don't call her that! She's a very sweet person" Vincent scolded
"S-sorry broer.." theo appologized looking like a sad puppy
Vincent gestured theo to take a seat next to him
"Well, i understand where you are coming from. She is very energetic indeed." Vincent said
"So..how do i stop her from driving me crazy?" Theo asked
"You say you would yell at her to be quiet right? How about.. you try talking to her VERY nicely" vincent said, emphasizing the word "very"
Theo looked at his brother, confused
"Broer.. are you sure?" Theo asked
"Yes! She is someone you have to speak kindly to for her to listen. Trust your big brother!" Vincent said cheerfully
Vincent ended up teaching theo how to speak to MC the rest of the night
As expected, the next day MC was singing loudly once again
Theo was going to go shout at her but he remembered what his brother said
He gulped and exited his bedroom approaching her
MC who was singing and dancing stopped in her tracks when she noticed a figure standing behind her
She turned around greeted with theo who had a stiff expression
"Good day to you theo! How can i help you?" MC asked cheerfully
"I.. uh hond- i mean MC. C-could you please lower your voice p..please? I am- i'm trying to rest. I would v-very much appreciate y-your coopera..tion." Theo said stuttering allover the place while fidgetting
He wasn't used to being nice to people
It went silent for a bit
"Oh my! How strange, you aren't yelling at me! My appology theo, i didn't know i put you in such distress!" MC said with a guilty expression
Theo was blown away by her response as it just sounded way out of character, making him feel guilty
"O-oh! Don't worry, i appologize for always yelling at you." Theo said flailling his hands all over the place.
MC looked at him and started laughing softly
"O-oi! What are you laughing at hondje!" Theo exclaimed, his face red with embbarasment
Secretly, he felt refreshed after hearing MC laugh again
"Ahaha! My appologies, you just looked and sounded very adorable! It's..ahaha.. very unlike you theo!" MC said, laughing
Theo's brain stopped working, i mean did MC rly just call him adorable
"Whatever! Im going back to my room!" theo stomped away, face still red
"Alright, alright! Have a nice rest! MC said still giggling
Theo slammed his door shut and slumped down against the door
"Maybe.. hondje isn't that bad at all..." theo said to himself
ISAAC
Poor boy will have a mental breakdance
ESPECIALLY when hes reading or doing some cool kid stuff //p h y s i c s
Atleast she doesn't tag along with arthur and dazai...
He knows that she is a kind soul, just has too much energy >:(
He doesnt hate her of course! He just wish she would tone it down :(
Isaac was in the library reading a book when MC started humming while she sweeped the floor
The humming slowly became a string of "lalala" and soon enough she was singing
"Goodness me, MC! This isn't the first time you have distracted my concentration.." isaac said as he burried his face into the book he was reading
Considering how soft isaac's voice was generally, MC did not hear him.
Having enough of it, He shut his book close aggresively and proceeded to walk out the door, slamming the door
The sound of the door slamming alerted MC causing her to jump slightly
"That was really loud..where did isaac go?" MC asked to herself
That was when she heard the door open, revealing leonardo
"Hello leonardo! By any chance, did you come across isaac? He suddenly left and i dont know why..." MC said
Leonardo lit up a cigarrilo and spoke
"Ah yeah, by the looks of it.. you might have upsetted him by accident, cara mia. I saw him stomping through the hallway with a sour look on his face" leonardo said calmly, inhaling his cigarrilo
"W-wait what? I..upsetted him?" MC asked in disbelieve
Leonardo noticed the unsettled look on her face
"Calm down cara mia, here take a seat" leonardo said as he gestured her to take a seat in front of him
MC sat down with a conflicted look on her face
"Heres the thing cara mia- you are a very bright soul and isaac..he is a quiet kid. He finds loud noises distressing especially when he is focussing on something. In this case.. i assume you were singing loudly around him?"
This realization hit MC like a truck
"Oh no! I never meant to make him feel uncomfortable.." MC said sadly
"I need to make it up to him...but how?" Mc continued
Leonardo leaned back to his chair
"Well, as you know, isaac has a monstrous appetite. It will be his meal time in a bit. Maybe you could bring his meal to him and talk things out with him
MC's once gloomy face lit back up
"Thats a great idea! Thankyou very much leonardo!" MC said as she stood up, hurrying out of the library
When MC arrived in the kitchen, he was greeted by sebastian who was plating up some food and rouge.
"Good afternoon sebastian! Is that for isaac?" MC asked
"Indeed, why?" Sebastian asked curiously
"I will take it up to him, since i also have something to discuss with him" MC reasoned
Sebastian stared at her for a bit
"Very well." He said
As soon as sebastian finished plating things up, MC took the tray and headed to isaac's room
She took a deep breath and knocked his door
"Come in." He said calmly
MC went in and placed the tray next to him
Isaac looked up which then his face twisted into discomfort
"Oh..thankyou" he said simply
"Im sorry.." MC said sadly
Isaac's expression showed confussion
"Huh? Why are you apologizing?" He questioned
"You left earlier, because i was bothering you right?" MC questioned back
Isaacs heart melted a bit. He felt like he did something mean considering how he saddened someone who he thought would be the last person in the world to be sad
"Oh! Oh..that.." isaac exclaimed not knowing how to respond to her question
"I really am sorry. I have always been a loud and active person that sometimes i forget about the people around me. I just fall deep into my own world once i do something..." MC explained
Somehow isaac could relate to her words. He knows how it feels to be so engulfed in what you are doing that you just forget about everything else
Maybe her peronality is like his deep interest with physics..
"Dont worry about it... i kind of understand what you mean..im sorry for storming out like that" isaac said, guilt in his voice
It went awkwardly silent for a bit
"Oh! I have an idea! What if... you shout out "gravity" whenever im being too loud around you? Im 100% sure that will alert me!" MC suggested cheerfully
"P-pardon?" Isaac asked unsure if he heard her right
"I guess that was an awfull idea..." MC said as her expression dropped once again
Isaac felt really bad when he saw her sad expression
"N-no! I.. i will think about it.." isaac mumbled, which MC heard
"Really?! Thats great!" MC exclaimed
"So...are we on good terms now?" MC continued
"I suppose you could say so.." isaac said shyly
"Good, good! I will head out now, give me a shout if you need anything" MC said as she left the room
Since then MC and isaac had formed some sort of frienship. Leonardo was glad to see that isaac was finally speaking up, guess its thanks to MC that a tiny portion of her personality slightly rubbed onto him
The day came when MC was being too loud
This time, isaac was playing chess with arthur as dazai watched them
Just like always MC started singing loudly
Isaac took a sharp inhale
"GRAVITYYY" isaac shouted on top of his lung scaring arthur and dazai at the point they probably ascended to a different dimension
"Oh! Sorry isaac!" MC said
"Bloody hell, isaac! I know you came up with the concept of gravity, but what the on earth was that for?!" Arthur said with a hand on his chest that was beating fast
" i think i pooped myself" dazai said as he hurried out of the room holding his butt with his hands.
Isaac stayed quiet, not answering his question
"Back to the game please" isaac said calmly
Arthur just sighed still wondering what all of that was

All-Nighter (Ethan x f!MC)
Pairing: Dr. Ethan Ramsey x F!MC (Dr. Lilac Allende) Word count: 2.9K Warning: Language and alluded sexual situations Premise: He’d do anything for her, even fly across the country on moment’s notice.
A/N: If Ethan had gone to Vegas to spend a full night with MC. Crack and fluff. Sorry!
12:26 am
Ethan had never understood the appeal of Vegas. The city, crawling with gaudy exhibitionism, reckless gambling, and rowdy party-goers, had always seemed a tad tasteless to him. Even in his med school years when his cohort planned a trip to sin city, Ethan had preferred to find solace in an overpriced drink at a bar off the strip and not dancing against strangers in a stuffy nightclub.
Now, he had been convinced (albeit too easily) to take a six hour flight to a city he would much rather avoid.
His phone pinged with a notification from her, reminding him of the adult rated texts that had inspired his impromptu trip.
Miss you. Wish you could see me in this dress.
Seconds after, a picture came in and Ethan almost dropped his phone on the concrete.
And finally, she sent one final, maddening addendum: Or out of it.
It was lucky for Ethan that he was already in the same city as her, one an elevator ride away from ripping that tempting thing off of her.
I'm outside, he texted back.
More than anything, he wanted to give in to the burning need to just have her in his arms.
------------------
12:48 am
As Ethan waited outside the casino she mentioned in a previous text, however, the flashing neon lights making it almost difficult to distinguish that it was nighttime, he held a different doctor in his arms. A very drunk Dr. Lahela had haphazardly collided with him only seconds earlier, throwing an arm around him after recognition hit. Ethan was still unsure if the gesture was out of comradery or to maintain his balance.
“Ramseyyyy,” he called out with a suave ease that was admirable in his current state.
Before Ethan could answer, Varma and Sienna Trinh appeared at his side. The former looked just as intoxicated as Lahela, though she was doing a much better job at maintaining her balance and dignity. Sienna, however, looked sober, or sober enough to figure out why Ethan was there for she threw him a knowing smirk.
“Dr. Ramsey,” she greeted casually over the noise of the busy boulevard. “I forgot Edenbrook sent you here because of our contract with Panacea.”
It was a feeble excuse to explain his presence to the other two. It didn't matter because neither of them was listening anyway. Ethan doubted they ever questioned why he was there in the first place.
Lahela's arm gripped him tighter as he swayed. “Dr. Ramsey, you have to come with us to the Sugar Factory. They have this drink called the fish bowl. It's exactly what it sounds like except full of candy.”
It sounded like a drink straight out of his nightmare.
“Lahela, tell me why—”
To his horror, the young surgeon's face lit up as he started singing. “Ain't nothing but a heartache.”
“Tell me why,” an equally drunk passerby added.
“Ain't nothing but a mistake,” Lahela continued as others laughed and joined in. By the time they were finished, all three residents laughed hysterically while Ethan remained unmoved, silently wishing he had stayed in the blissful quiet of his apartment in Boston.
He was reminded of why he had left the comfort of his home to venture into the wild five minutes after the group had departed for the aforementioned Sugar Factory. His eyes found her as soon as she stepped out into the street, clad in the sinfully short dress from her picture. The effect it had on Ethan felt like a punch.
Lilac spotted him too, her face alight with a combination of surprise and unrestrained elation. Before either of them could stop what was about to happen, she rushed into his arms. On instinct, he lifted her off her feet, their lips meeting in a kiss charged with promise.
“Hi,” she greeted breathlessly when he carefully set her down.
“Hi,” he returned, sounding just as affected.
“I had to come out here to make sure you were really here. I can't believe you actually came,” she all but exclaimed, voice laced with giddy happiness. It made his stomach leap pleasantly, inspiring a foolish grin he didn't care to fight back anymore.
“Me neither,” he confessed.
“Well, I'm glad you did. I like this spontaneous Ethan Ramsey who flies across the country on a whim.”
That admission sent a thrill through his body. He realized he'd do anything to see that winsome smile each time, even if it meant dropping everything and rushing to her side hundreds of miles away.
------------------
1:32 am
“Eight, six, seven,” Lilac was saying over the roar of the fountains and the Celine Dion song. “Five, three, oh, nine.”
She waited for a hint of recognition, but as
she had suspected, the drunken frat boy did not understand the reference. Instead, he tapped the number into his phone and flashed her a sloppy smirk. “I'll call you later.”
Ethan appeared at her side after he was gone, shaking his head at her with a smirk.
“Your drink, Jenny,” he said, offering her a cup that looked to be more ice than drink.
Lilac laughed as she accepted it, her body gravitating to his side at once. A rush of dizzying joy almost overpowered her every time she realized she didn't have to fight that instinct here.
“Funny. That's the name I gave him too,” she said taking a sip. “He was insistent and drunk beyond comprehension. I thought it'd be easier to give him a fake number.”
“You gave him a song,” Ethan commented with a laugh. A rare, taunting grin illuminated his face, rendering him the handsomest man she had ever seen. “And you could've just told him you have a boyfriend.”
She arched an intrigued eyebrow, already moving into his embrace. “I have a boyfriend, do I?”
Ethan's free arm encircled her, casting a glow of warmth over her body. It could have been the small amount of alcohol in her system or this newfound energy that crackled between them, still fizzing with longing but considerably lighter than in the past months.
He nodded in mock seriousness.
“And is he the jealous type?”
Ethan genuinely scoffed at that, his fingers aimlessly caressing her bare back. It made her skin blaze where he touched her. “Jealous of what? A sweaty frat boy crass enough to hit on a beautiful but evidently uninterested woman? Believe me, there's nothing to be jealous about.”
“Case in point,” she laughed, raising herself to kiss his nose.
Ethan laughed too and took advantage of their sudden proximity to press his lips against hers, their kiss sweet and just as dizzying as the many desperate, passionate ones they had shared. When they parted, that fiery, striking gaze of his remained locked on hers, making her thighs quiver.
The song in the background reached its final notes as the jets of water disappeared into the dark pool glittering in front of the lavish hotel. The crowd began to disperse but Ethan and Lilac remained on the sidewalk, basking in a content lull, his arm securely around her and her cheek pressed against his chest. She knew without asking that he was enjoying this small allowance of being a real couple just as much as she was.
At last, her eyes fell on the replica of the Eiffel Tower across the street. In the span of a second, she wondered what it would be like to be in front of the real one, safely wrapped in Ethan's arms.
“I wonder how it compares to the real one,” she wondered out loud.
“I've never seen it but I'd wager it's not a true representation.”
For some reason, she found that surprising. “You've never been to Paris?”
“I've been for work but my time was spent doing just that. I didn't venture out much into the city to sightsee. To be honest, I didn't understand the appeal.”
The pause that followed suggested he wanted to add more but he remained silent. When Lilac pulled back from his embrace to look at him, she found those piercing blue eyes studying her intently.
“I know what we should do for that date you teased in your texts,” she said when she finally found the words.
It was Ethan's turn to arch his brow at her in interest. “I thought this was our date?”
“Yes, but we're in Vegas. There's so much to do at this hour. And besides, you promised me all night in one of your texts.”
The crooked smile he gave her along with the wicked glint in his eye should have been illegal. He leaned in and whispered darkly, “That's not what I meant.”
Five words and she was all over him, kissing him in ways that were inappropriate even for Vegas. They broke apart and Ethan looked at her expectantly.
“So what's this idea for our date?” he prompted when Lilac merely stared at him, lips still burning from his kiss.
“Oh, right. I was thinking since we were both two giant nerds who powered through med school and never traveled—”
At this, Ethan shook his head, amused.
“—we could each pick something to do here in Vegas that feels like traveling to somewhere remote.”
“But instead we'll be in a loud casino, surrounded by obnoxious crowds and exposed to secondhand smoke?”
Lilac rolled her eyes which made him laugh.
“Fine, I'll do it. But you pick first.”
---------------
2:17 am
As they glided through the clear waters, Ethan had to admit he could see the appeal in the faux gondola ride. Even if it was romantic, the critical part of him dwelled on the fact that the canals of Venice did not smell strongly of chlorine. He almost voiced the cynical observation out loud, before he remembered this was her idea and the last thing he wanted was to offend her. Although, he was certain Lilac would only laugh and playfully shove him.
But Lilac was not taunting him, which should have been his first indication that something was off. She wasn't even marveling at the painted ceiling of the casino or making snide comments about the high end shops at the edge of the water and the people who shopped there. Instead, she pressed firmly against his side, her nails digging into his shirt.
“Are you okay?” he murmured.
Lilac plastered on the weakest attempt at a smile. Ethan only waited until she dropped the act and said, “Is it weird that the water is freaking me out?”
Ethan considered that. “Are you afraid of open water?”
Lilac shook her head. “No, or I would have never suggested this. But once we got in and started moving, the water just looked terrifying?”
Ethan gave her reassuring smile. “We can get off if you want.”
Again, she shook her head with a brave determination that made his stomach flutter. She was entirely too adorable, even without trying.
“No, I'll be fine,” she said through a steadying breath. “I'll just refrain from looking at the creepy water. And I'll try not to think about what we'll do if this thing flips over.”
“Rookie, the water is three feet deep. If we capsize we can just...get up on our feet.”
Lilac's eyes moved to meet his at the words. They stared at each other in the golden glow of their surroundings, their expressions unreadable. The silent seconds stretched until they both dissolved into hearty and borderline hysterical laughter.
Ethan tried his best to sober up first, but when he was close to regaining his composure, he would meet her eye and then they'd both continue to laugh relentlessly. He was aware that they were drawing curious looks from the people observing from the bridges. Even the gondolier cast them a questioning look but said nothing.
Ethan didn't care.
It was the happiest he had felt in weeks, amidst everything that had happened.
They finally sobered and Lilac sighed, much more at ease than before. When she settled against Ethan, it was with her hand softly pressed against his chest, directly over the heartbeat that pounded fiercely for her.
------------
3:31 am
The plan had been to go dancing at the Egyptian themed casino, much to her companion's dismay. In the end, she won against his protest and Lilac was feeling particularly proud of herself for talking Ethan Ramsey into going to a nightclub. Then again, she hadn't missed how his eyes occasionally traveled along the expanse of her plunging neckline or how his fingers trailed along her exposed back whenever he held her. A lot of the credit was owed to the dress.
Which is probably why they never made it to the nightclub. Instead, they hastily detoured to the penthouse suite the leeches at Panacea paid for, their hands and lips on one another for the majority of the journey there.
Thirty minutes after ensuring they were truly alone, the miraculous dress lay pooled on her bedroom floor, completely forgotten. Meanwhile, Ethan moved against her in ways that made her scream out his name. As they both reached the peak, Lilac leaned in to whisper exactly what she wanted him to do.
With a grunt, Ethan obeyed wholeheartedly.
“Your turn,” she panted minutes later as she rolled off of him.
“As you wish,” he said, the words interrupted as he too struggled to catch his breath. “Although you know I prefer it when you take the lead.”
She laughed. “No, your turn to pick a place to go next.”
Ethan flipped on his side, offering her the sexiest grin. God, she was really thinking about sleeping with him again, mere minutes after the first round.
“I thought I picked this one,” he teased, his voice thick and heavy in ways that made her center pool with heat.
“We both picked this one,” she argued before she kissed him.
-------------
3:47 am
Ethan only pretended to consider their next destination. The truth was that he knew the answer since the moment she suggested it in front of the fountains.
They only had to leave the bed, a feat that was more challenging than it sounded.
Lilac, far more determined than Ethan, even got as far as slipping back into the lacy black underwear he had removed with his teeth earlier. The deliberately coy smile she sent his way when she realized he was staring, however, had his hands on her hips in seconds.
“Fucking hell, Lilac,” he murmured against her mouth as he pulled her on top of him for the second time that hour.
----------
4:59 am
After a third failed attempt to get out of bed, which resulted in both of them making good on the promises they made in their earlier texts, Lilac sat up in bed to look at him full on. She gave him what was supposed to be a stern, admonishing look, but she knew it was half hearted because he looked at her with such adoration that she broke a smile.
“No more distracting me. You're not getting out of picking, Ramsey.”
Ethan's eyes remained fixed on hers in the darkness of the room, his expression betraying no hints of amusement. Outside, the sky began to glow with the first rays of orange and pink, the promise of the sun's arrival setting the inky blue sky ablaze.
She frowned, noting the lines of exhaustion on his handsome face. “Are you tired? We can just stay if—”
“We're already here,” he said quietly. “The place I pick.”
“Bed?” she asked with a startled laugh. “Ethan Ramsey, you are almost a romantic.”
“Almost?” His mouth betrayed a hint of a smile. “I'm offended, Rookie. But no, as wonderful as we are in bed, that's not my choice.”
Ethan didn't elaborate, the small crease between his brows suggesting he was deep in thought. Every so often, his eyes flickered to hers, holding her gaze briefly before they moved away just as quickly.
“I'm not—” he started, stopped, and tried again. “I'm not good at this kind of thing.”
A slight flush colored his angled cheekbones, so endearing that she couldn't help but kiss him. In all honesty, she wasn't any better at any of it either, only suggesting the date idea as a clichéd way for them to spend time together in a faraway city. It hadn’t been her proudest moment but had Googled ideas the moment he said he was outside.
Nervous energy filled the room in their shared silence.
“The only place in the world I give a damn about is by your side, Lilac,” he said at last, the words quiet but powerful enough to make her pulse clamor like bells.
Ethan scratched the back of his head at her silence. “I was also hoping this goddamn penthouse had a balcony. I would've picked that as my date because of Miami and the first time we—”
Lilac interrupted him with a kiss, the force of it over balancing Ethan and sending him into the pillows. She didn't care that their kiss was unceremonious and far from romantic. All she was aware of was the growing, urgent need to kiss this cheesy, romantic, brilliant man. He laughed against her lips, strong hands steadying her on top of him.
“You're so much better at this than you give yourself credit for,” she informed him when they broke apart.
“Good,” he said, lifting his head to kiss the curve of her neck. “I was worried there was finally something I didn't excel at.”

A/N: Meanwhile, her friends are still partying somewhere on the Strip, begging Bryce to quit drinking while he’s ahead. Those fish bowl drinks are no joke.
Holy shit that was 3K of nothingness. If you made it this far, thank you!
This was loosely based on my experience(s) going to Vegas, although I don’t remember most of it. Again, those fish bowl drinks will destroy you lol.
Thank you to @aestheticartsx for your help with this mess!
P.S. Sorry about the dress in the pic not being the exact same one. I saw some that were close but the wrong color. Others were too crazy with that neckline. Ethan would’ve just dropped dead lol.

The Surrogate - Chapter 13
The Surrogate: A Clintasha Fanfic
Masterlist PREVIOUS //
Buy me a ☕ Character Pairing: Clint Barton x Natasha Romanoff x F!Reader
Word Count: 1687
Rating: E
Warnings: Pregnancy
Synopsis: A freak end of the world incident leads to meeting your two best friends, Clint Barton and Natasha Romanoff. While your friendship with the two Avengers is anything but conventional, they are your all-time favorite people. When you find out that Clint and Natasha want to start a family but have exhausted all their options, you realize your powerset might allow you to give them what they want. Having your best friends’ baby might seem like a good idea on paper, but when you are as close as you, Clint, and Natasha are, will doing something so intimate mean feelings get a little mixed up?
Chapter 13
There was such a feeling of excitement and hope for you, Natasha, and Clint when you went in to do your glucose test and have your 18-week ultrasound. The pregnancy had now lasted longer than the one that Natasha had lost which was a big milestone. That had led to Natasha relaxing almost completely about the baby. She didn’t seem to get panicked about losing them at all, and she had started making plans for how she was going to actually raise them.
Discussions were had about schooling and who would stay home when they were young. If they should hire a nanny. If they should move away from the compound. She made guesses about whether it was a boy or a girl. She was genuinely excited and that excitement was no longer tinged with a fear of loss.
There was talking about turning the room that had been yours into the nursery and having it painted with a mural. You still had your apartment with most of your things, but for all intents and purposes, you lived with Natasha and Clint, sleeping in their bed every night. The three of you had been clicking even better than you had expected. The close friendship you had built with the side of casual sex had blended seamlessly into an actual honest-to-god relationship. All those little things that had made you such good friends in the first place; the easy humor, the playful teasing, the protectiveness, and trust - they all deepened and strengthened what you were creating together. Mornings were spent dragging each other up and out the door in a joint desire to just curl back into bed. Nights were spent exactly how they had always been spent - grabbing dinner and hanging out. There would usually be other people around. Steve and Bucky would come to play cards. Tony would invite the three of you up for dinner and there would be loud debates about the stupidest things while Morgan came and brought her favorite uncles and aunts things to look at. Kate would come and just sit on the couch eating pizza while snarking at or with Clint. The main difference now was there was more cuddling with each other and incidental touching, and at the end of the day, you’d all go to bed together.
As you all fell into that easy intimacy, you began to think more and more long term. It was a little scary how easy it was to think of the baby as your baby, but you’d already stopped worrying about things not working and were deep into loving the fact that they were.
So while you sat playing cards and waiting for the sugar drink to do what it needed to do so you could be tested for a disease you couldn’t possibly have due to your powers, the three of you made bets on if the baby was a boy or a girl and debated the pros and cons of having a mural of every famous archer from fiction painted on the wall, you felt like this was it. This was your family. These were your people. You were doing this together.
The drawing of your blood was always a complicated affair but you were more than used to it now. Your body fought things trying to break the skin, so needles had to be held firmly and moved around to stop your body from either forcing the needle out or closing up around it.
When you were finally done the three of you went to the ultrasound appointment practically buzzing with excitement to see the fetus and find out what you were having.
The gel was cold and it made you flinch when Cynthia squeezed it on your stomach. Natasha and Clint sat side by side next to you. Both of them holding your hand. Natasha’s fingers were linked with yours and Clint had his hand wrapped around them both. They were both looking between you and the screen, waiting for the baby to come into view. “How’s everything been going? No more morning sickness?”
“Nope, haven’t had it for a while,” you said as she began to press the paddle down on your stomach hard enough to make your bladder ache slightly. “I feel really good actually. Lots of energy.”
“That’s great. And the baby is kicking a lot?” She asked.
“Oh yeah, all the time,” you said. “Always grooving around in there.”
“Well, given who their parents are, that makes sense,” Cynthia joked. The baby came into view. Because of Natasha’s fear that you would miscarry you’d watched it turn from the weird little peanut shape to something that looked like a human baby. As they appeared on the screen now it looked just like a baby. You could see it waving its arms around and the toes on its feet. “Heartbeat is strong too. You’re doing good, mama.”
“They’re all good?” Natasha asked, her eyes fixed on the screen.
“Yes. Looking fine. The doctor will have to go over the scans but it’s looking good to me,” Cynthia said, as she took measurements.
“We can find out if it’s a boy or a girl today, can’t we?” Clint asked.
Cynthia grinned. “I was hoping you would ask that.”
She moved the paddle around, really pushing down hard against your stomach as she moved to the side. “Well,” she said as she angled the paddle so the image looked like the fetus was sitting on it. “It looks like this little one is a girl.”
“Really? How can you tell?” Clint said, a smile crossing his face.
“See here?” Cynthia said pointing between the legs on the ultrasound image. “Looks like a hamburger.”
Clint narrowed his eyes as his look and his brow furrowed. Slowly his eyes started widening and he burst out laughing. “Right! Gotcha!”
Natasha leaned over and kissed your forehead. “A little girl,” she whispered.
“Mm-hmm…” you hummed. “You’ve got a daughter, mama.”
“A daughter…” Natasha repeated, so softly it was barely audible.
The three of you finished up with the tech and then saw Kelly your Obstetrician. The pregnancy seemed to be going perfectly. Perhaps it would have anyway, but you liked to think it was your powers doing what they needed to do.
“A girl,” Natasha said as the three of you left the office.
You took her hand and entwined your fingers with hers. “We should have a baby shower.”
“We should,” Natasha agreed. “Maybe Wanda or Kate might like to help organize it.”
“We need to think of girl’s names,” Clint said. “Kate said if it was a girl we had to name it after her.”
Natasha laughed. “And what did you say to that?”
“I thought it would be a boy,” Clint said. “So I said I would.”
“Clint,” Natasha sighed. “You are such a dumbass.”
“Yeah, but you love me,” Clint teased, throwing his arm around Natasha’s shoulders.
“God knows why, but I do,” she conceded.
“So I’m guessing Kate is on the list then?” You asked, trying not to laugh.
“I guess so,” Natasha said, shaking her head. “We should write a list. I haven’t thought about names before. Not since… Rose.”
“That was her name?” You asked.
She nodded and pursed her lips, trying not to show emotion again. “Well, you can think of some now,” you said, gently squeezing her hand.
“We should write a list of all the things we still need to do. We haven’t prepared at all,” Natasha said.
“Well, I say having the baby shower first. Then we can see what we still need,” you said.
“That is a very good and intelligent point,” Natasha said. “But on the other hand, tiny shoe shopping.”
You started laughing. “I’m fairly certain we could get by with extra tiny shoes.”
“See, you are smart,” she said and bumped you with her hip. “And far be it for me to be all sappy and sentimental -” she leaned in close and nosed at your cheek. “But I love that we’re doing it together now. All of it.”
“That’s what she said,” Clint teased.
Natasha shook her head and elbowed him, trying very hard not to start laughing. “Can you not ruin my moment?”
“I made it better,” Clint teased. “But I do agree. Feels good, right?”
You hummed and wrapped your arm around Natasha’s waist and slipped your hand into Clint’s back pocket. “It does feel good. A little scary though. I was all ready to be an aunt. Now I’m picking names and stuff. But that’s what happens sometimes, right?”
“Hey, I was ready and I still find it scary,” Clint admitted. “I’m going to be a dad? Me? I drank coffee straight from the pot today and I’m going to be responsible for keeping an infant alive.”
“Well,” you said as you reached the apartment. “There are three of us. So it’s not just you.”
“Good thing too,” Clint joked, opening the door and letting you all in. “I can’t be trusted with things like that. I can barely keep myself alive.”
You went and sat down on the recliner, popping the bottom up so you could have your feet up. Clint looked from you to Natasha and raised his eyebrows. She nodded and Clint moved to your chair, kneeling beside it and looking up at you. “In fact,” he said. “I think it would be good if you properly moved in, don’t you? I mean, bring all your stuff in.”
You looked at him and then over to Natasha, a little shocked. It had only been a few weeks since you had agreed to try the relationship thing and this felt like a big jump. Then again, you had been living in their apartment for months and friends for years now. Not to mention if it didn’t work out, it wasn’t like it was impossible to get your apartment back. You lived at the compound, there were always apartments available.
You took a deep breath and let it out, a smile slowly spreading on your face. “Yeah, why not? Let’s do it.”

Character Story - Yuki (2006) [RGGO]
The next few stories will be about three very beautiful, very elegant, very alive ladies (which should narrow it down quite a lot lol). First up: She’s single! She’s 39! She’s probably addicted to gacha games! It’s Yuki!!
Story: Yuki learns that her father is ill, and wants to show him that she is reliable and capable so that he won’t pass on with regrets. Everyone tries to help her maintain the lie because she is, in fact, neither reliable nor capable. Majima gives a speech about the power of friendship.
(Featuring the 3 different artstyles of RGGO-verse: anime, paint-y, and Dragon Engine; all in the same weird screenshot!)
Majima & Youda: “We love you, Yuki-chan. Even if you’re dumb, and clumsy, and stupid, and gullible . . .”
Yuki: “. . . I wish I had better friends.”
.
CHAPTER 1
.
|Four Shine wins the Cabaret Club Grand Prix, and became a popular cabaret club after that . . . The temporary club manager Kiryu leaves Sotenbori, so the owner Yuki and the club manager Youda handle the club in place of three people.|
|Four Shine, Sotenbori.|
Waiter: “Kirara has been nominated for Table No. 2! Bring a wet towel for Table No. 4!”
Yuki: “Phew~ . . . I’m even busier than usual . . . Oh? Koyuki-chan, you look pale. Maybe you’re sick?”
Koyuki: “. . . I couldn’t sleep much yesterday. But it’s fine. We’re short on staff today.”
Yuki: “No, no! What if you break your body! Please go home now and get some rest!”
Koyuki: “But the 5th table . . .”
Yuki: “No buts! I’ll do something about your absence, just leave it to me!”
Koyuki: “I . . . I understand. But, I want to work once I feel better, so I’ll just rest here in the back.”
{Koyuki leaves to take a break.}
Yuki: “Indeed . . . Koyuki-chan is a hard worker.”
Waiter: “Yuki-san. Where is Koyuki-san? Table No. 5 has been waiting for a while now . . .”
Yuki: “Eh?! Table No. 5?! That’s right, I forgot . . . Koyuki-chan is resting right now. What should I do . . .”
Waiter: “If Koyuki-san can’t do it, then I guess they can wait a little longer, Aika-san would be available then . . .”
Yuki: “Y-Yeah, yeah! I’m sorry, please do that . . . ! I’ll go apologize to the customer later . . . !”
{The waiter leaves to give Table No. 5 the news.}
Yuki: “Haa . . . I said to leave it to me but then I completely forgot . . . I’m losing my mind . . .”
Cast Member Erica: “Uuugh . . . Yuki-san . . .”
Yuki: “Oh?! What’s wrong, Erica-chan? Isn’t it your day off . . . ?”
Cast Member Erica: “I . . . I was dumped by my boyfriend . . . I was feeling sad and lonely . . . so I came here . . .”
Yuki: “Oh . . . Don’t cry Erica-chan. I’m sure you’ll find a better boyfriend. And even if you don’t have a boyfriend, it’s fun! It’s great to be able to play online games by yourself at home!”
Cast Member Erica: “I-Is that okay for Yuki-san? Even though you’re 39 years old, you haven’t had a crisis about having no boyfriend . . .”
Yuki: “Eh?! I-I . . . ? I-Is that actually bad after all . . . ?”
Cast Member Erica: “Well, I guess it depends on the person . . . you’re 39 years old. If you like older men, would you like me to introduce one to you?!”
Yuki: “Don’t mention my age so much . . . you’re making me depressed. At the very least, Erica-chan seems to be feeling much better. . . . Oh!! Look at the time! Youda-san wanted us to talk about shifts!”
----
Yuki: “Ah, I’m here . . . but, is he on the phone?”
Youda (on the phone): “. . . I want to go to the amusement park with my family too, but as the club manager, I can’t take a day off on a busy Friday. So maybe next time, when everyone’s schedule lines up again . . . yes, I’m sorry.”
{Youda hangs up.}
Yuki: “Youda-san. Are you talking about next Friday? You can take a day off if you want to go with your family!”
Youda: “Eh?! Ah, Yuki-chan. No, that’s not the case . . .”
Yuki: “It’s not a problem. I’ll do something about it when the day comes. You should enjoy yourself with your family once in a while!”
Youda: “. . . Thank you, Yuki-chan. Your words have brought me happiness.”
----
Yuki: “. . . Ah, this is bad, this is bad! Before I forget, I should make a note of the change in Youda-san’s schedule . . . Is Takada also on break that day . . . he said he’d be on a date with his girlfriend so he’ll be taking a day off. Oh? Shirota is also taking that day off. That means . . . there are no waiters for that day?! I’ve done it now . . . how can I do this without Youda-san . . . But it’ll be hard for me to say he should work again . . .”
Youda: “Hey, Yuki-chan. I’m grateful for you giving me next Friday off. Thanks to that, both my wife and daughter were happy.”
Yuki: “I-Is that right . . . I’m happy for you . . . Haha . . .”
{Yuki’s phone rings.}
Yuki: “. . . Hello? My dad’s . . . you’re a colleague of my dad? . . . Eh? He collapsed and was brought to the hospital?! What . . . What should I do . . . I . . . What should I do . . .”
Youda: “Go do what you need to do! Leave the club to me . . . go on!”
Yuki: “. . . Yes. Youda-san, thank you very much. Excuse me . . . everyone, please let me through!”
----
{Yuki bumps into someone on her way out.}
Yuki: “Ah! S-Sorry . . . I’m in a hurry . . .”
Rough-looking Man: “Oi, oi . . . that hurt, Neechan . . . my bone is broken where you hit it. I think the cost of treatment’s gonna be pretty high.”
Yuki: “B-Broken bone?! Are you okay?!”
???: “If you can get a broken bone from getting hit by a girl, you’re a pretty pathetic man~.”
Rough-Looking Man: “Oh? Who’s that?”
Majima: “Hi~hihi! Awfully hostile for a weak kink! Are you a masochist looking to experience some pain?”
Yuki: “Ma-Majima-san!”
Majima: “Yo, Yuki-chan. I was in the area so I dropped by . . . but it looks like you’re in a hurry! I’ll handle this pathetic Niichan. You should get going.”
Yuki: “Th-Thank you very much . . . Please excuse me. I’ll pay the treatment fee later!”
{Yuki runs off.}
Rough-Looking Man: “You let that Neechan go without my permission. Are you paying for my treatment fee instead?”
Majima: “No one’s paying. Unlike Yuki-chan, I ain’t a fool who believes ya actually broke a bone.”
Rough-Looking Man: “. . . So I guess you’re not paying up obediently. If you go against me, you’re paying for your own treatment!”
{Majima beats up the guy.}
----
Yuki: “Haa . . . Haa . . . My dad’s hospital room . . . is here . . .”
???: “I’m . . . so terrible . . .”
Yuki: “. . . ?!”
Yuki’s Father: “. . . Doctor. Please keep it secret from my daughter. My daughter . . . I don’t want her to know. How much longer do I have . . .”
Doctor: “. . . Around 1 month.”
Yuki: (1 month?! My dad only has 1 month to live?! So . . . to not make me sad . . . Dad has been trying to keep his illness from me . . .)
Doctor: “Excuse me.”
{The doctor leaves, and Yuki enters the room.}
Yuki: “D-Dad . . . Are you okay? I heard you fell down . . .”
Yuki’s Father: “Oh, Yuki . . . you came. It’s not anything major . . . nothing to worry about.”
Yuki: “Is that so . . . that’s good.”
Yuki: (That’s a lie . . . it’s really a major illness. But . . . it’s a lie he’s telling just for me . . . so I can’t say I know it’s a lie . . .)
Yuki’s Father: “That’s right. So . . . urkk!!”
Yuki: “?!”
Yuki’s Father: “Oh, it’s nothing bad . . . I just got a big hiccup, hahaha.”
Yuki: (. . . that’s also a lie. I’m sure he’s sick and his body is in tatters . . . to be enduring such pain . . .)
Yuki: “Dad . . . I’m going to the bathroom for a while.”
{Yuki leaves and starts pacing outside the room, crying.}
Yuki: Uuugh . . . Don’t cry. It makes no sense for my dad to hide his illness so desperately.”
Yuki’s Father: “. . . Haa. I hope Yuki’s alright.”
Yuki: “. . . !”
Yuki’s Father: “I can’t help but worry about the future of that child.”
Yuki: “Dad . . . he’s worried about leaving me all alone. It’s because I’m not reliable . . . If Dad is worried about me, he’ll die with regrets . . . That’s not good! I have to let him know I can make it on my own . . . I have to reassure him at least . . . !”
{Yuki marches back in the room.}
Yuki’s Father: “So Yuki . . . is work going well?”
Yuki: “it’s going really well! It’s going so well, I’m actually worried about needing to expand the club!”
Yuki’s Father: “Well, that’s good. Isn’t Yuki’s clumsiness causing trouble for the club?”
Yuki: “Ughh . . . speaking of which, earlier today . . .”
Yuki: (I shouldn’t . . . I have to reassure him . . . ! He has to know I’m not a bad owner!)
Yuki: “Don’t you know, I’m not the same Yuki anymore? I’m called a charismatic owner now. I’m so reliable, everyone in the club is piggyback riding on me! So I’ve been busy lately!”
Yuki’s Father: “I see . . . Yuki has become great too. Okay. Can I come see the club tomorrow? I want to see the work of a charismatic owner.”
Yuki: “Eh?! Come see me work?! But you’re ill . . .”
Yuki’s Father: “I’ll talk to my doctor about it. It won’t interfere with your work, right?”
Yuki: “Y-Yup. Of course. I, I, I . . . I’ll show you what a charismatic owner looks like.”
----
|Four Shine.|
Yuki: “Hiii~! Everyone, Wh-What should I do~!!”
Koyuki: “You really went all out by saying you’re a charismatic owner . . .”
Youda: “Moreover, your dad is dropping by tomorrow . . . you don’t have time to grow up . . .”
Majima: “Hihihi, then I have no choice but to show off my charisma skills to Yuki-chan!”
Yuki: “You’re going to help me Majima-san?! Thank you so much!”
Youda: “Making Yuki-chan look charismatic . . . It’s a difficult problem, but I have no choice but to do it.”
Koyuki: “For Yuki-san . . . we’ll overcome any troubles!”
Majima: “Alright! Let’s turn the stupid, stupid Yuki-chan into a person full of charisma!”
Koyuki & Youda: “Yeah!”
Yuki: “It’s like being casually told something so cruel . . .”
.
-END-
.
CHAPTER 2
.
Yuki’s Father: “Sorry for bothering you. Oh, this is the first time I’ve seen it, but it’s a lively club.”
Yuki: “Fufu. That’s because it’s a club run by a charismatic owner like me. I’ve told everyone, so you can tour around as much as you like.”
Yuki’s Father: “Yeah. I want to see Yuki’s hard work. I’ll just be careful not to get in the way of everyone in the club.”
Majima: “. . . Alrighty then, Youda-han. Let’s start the operation. Ask away.”
Youda: “Please leave it to me!”
Youda: “Owner! I want to consult about our monthly sales.”
Yuki’s Father: “Oh, it’s Yuki’s turn right away . . . good luck, Yuki. I’ll be nearby.”
Youda: “Compared to last month, weekend sales have dropped by about 10%, what measures should we take?”
Yuki: “I see . . . last month was a busy month, we’ll need to deal with the decline immediately.”
Youda: (Good, Yuki-chan. Just like I taught you. Now just talk about the measures as it is. That way your dad will think you’re an owner who makes solid management decisions . . . Operation ‘Make Perfect Management Decisions’! Yuki-chan, tell me exactly what I taught you . . . !)
Yuki: “Since the seats are almost full by 7:00 PM, If we want to increase sales, we should consider opening at other times or making outdoor seating available. To the customers who come in early . . . you need to be ‘sensitive’.
Youda: (?! No, Yuki-chan! You need an ‘incentive’! You don’t need to be sensitive!)
Yuki: “Besides labor costs . . . you also need ‘Cosmo Cut’. Make a list of the things you need to buy in large quantities.”
Youda: (Yuki-chan! You’re supposed to say ‘cost cut’! Cosmo Cut is a special move . . . !)
Yuki: “I’ll do it, I’ll call our suppliers. I’ll be out for a while.”
{Yuki leaves.}
Yuki’s Father: “. . . Sensitive? Cosmo Cut?”
Youda: (No, no! He has doubts! At this rate, the hopeless owner will be revealed . . . I got it!)
Youda: “Oh, you might not know about it. Those are technical terms used in the nightlife industry.”
Yuki’s Father: “Oh, is that right?”
Youda: “Yes. ‘Sensitive’ means good customer service that enhances customer satisfaction and encourages future visits. ‘Cosmo Cut’ is a cost-cutting method where we purchase on a large scale, as large as the universe.”
Yuki’s Father: “I see! I was wondering if Yuki had made a mistake. I learned a lot. Thank you very much.”
Youda: (Phew~ . . . that’s good. Somehow I managed . . .)
Yuki: “Fufufu. How was it, Majima-san? I did it perfectly.”
Majima: “Yuki-chan, did you even notice you made a mistake . . . you should thank Youda-han later.”
Yuki: “Eh?! I-I made a mistake?!”
Majima: “No worries. Youda-han managed to fix it. Operation ‘Solve the Cast’s Worries!’ is ready to go, so it’s okay. Good luck.”
----
Koyuki: “Yuki-san. I have something to consult with you . . . is that okay?”
Yuki’s Father: “Oh, a consultation from the cast. Can I watch from nearby?”
Koyuki: “. . . Yes. No problem. Because you’re the father of the charismatic owner Yuki-san.”
Yuki’s Father: “Thank you! Then I’ll be close by. Good luck~ Yuki!”
Yuki: (It’s fine . . . Koyuki-chan is going to talk about customer service and I just have to give advice . . . I failed earlier . . . but I can’t make any more mistakes. I have to give solid advice as an owner.)
Koyuki: “Actually, I’m worried because the number of requests for me has decreased recently. How can I give good customer service that will increase my number of nominations?”
Yuki: “I see . . . That’s . . . um . . . hmm . . . That’s . . .”
Yuki: (Why is nothing good coming out of my mouth?! Wh-What do I do, what do I do!!)
Yuki’s Father: “Oh? Is something wrong, Yuki? If you keep silent, you won’t be able to give advice . . .”
Yuki: (Wh-Wh-Wh-Wh-Wh-Wh-What should I do?! Nothing’s coming out! My dad’s going to figure out the lie!)
Koyuki: “. . . I understand, Yuki-san. You’re saying I should find the solution myself.”
Yuki: “. . . Eh?!”
Koyuki: “Even if I think I’ll understand if I ask other people for help, I won’t really get it. Instead, I should think hard and figure it out myself . . . ! You did something as bold as shutting up, just so I’d be aware of it. Thank you very much! I’ll try my best!”
Yuki’s Father: “I see . . . It’s better to figure things out by yourself. To convey that through silence . . . Yuki has grown up.”
Yuki: “A-After all, there are things better communicated if unsaid . . .”
Yuki: (That’s good . . . thanks to Koyuki-chan’s wit, I managed to keep up the lie . . . Next, Majima-san’s friend will cause a ruckus and I’ll stop him in Operation ‘Don’t Tolerate Annoying Guests!’ . . . What kind of person is this Nishida-san who’s going to play as the annoying guest?)
Majima: “So, is it time to give the signal to Nishida and the others?”
Waiter: “Excuse me, Majima-san. A thug outside the club said to ‘give this to the man in an eyepatch with a Techno haircut’ . . .”
Majima: “Haa~, it’s hard being so popular. . . . I’ll give the signal to Nishida and the others when I get back.”
----
Rough-Looking Man: “I thought I saw a similar guy entering this club . . . looks like I was right on the mark.”
Majima: “. . . Huh. You’re the weak Niichan from yesterday. Did you come back to have your bones broken for real?”
Rough-Looking Man: “This is the end of the line Eyepatch Guy! This time I brought a friend who prides himself on fights! We’ll kill you and sink you in Sotenbori River!!”
{Majima fights the guys.}
----
G.B. Holmes: “Nishida-san. Is it okay to rampage now?”
Nishida: “No! Stop, stop! We have to wait until Boss gives the signal. But what is the boss doing . . . it’s been too long since his last instruction . . .”
???: “Stop screwing around, idiot!!”
Nishida: “?!”
Waiter: “C-Customer. Please calm down.”
Troublesome Customer: “No way! I’m paying a lot of money for so few drinks!! I’ll teach you what happens when you try to scam me!! Bring me the person in charge!!”
Nishida: “Eh . . . ? Is that a real disruptive customer? We have to stop him . . . but . . . knowing Boss, he could have actually prepared someone other than us to make it a surprise . . .”
G.B. Holmes: “Would you like to go ask the boss . . . ?”
Nishida: “Yeah. It would be bad if we get in Yuki-san’s way . . . I’m sure Boss went out the club a while ago . . . Let’s go look for him, Gary!”
----
Troublesome Customer: “Where’s the person in charge!!”
Yuki: “The person in charge is here! I’m Yuki, the owner. If you have any complaints about our club, I’ll listen to them as much as you want!”
Yuki: (. . . I keep failing so far. I have to make a quick decision here and recover my honor! Even so . . . He’s a much scarier person than Majima-san said . . . this Nishida-san.)

CHAPTER 3
.
Troublesome Customer: “Where is the person in charge!!”
Yuki: “I’m Yuki, the owner. If you have any complaints about our club, I’ll listen to them as much as you want!”
Yuki’s Father: “That customer . . . that man looks like he’s yakuza . . . will Yuki be alright?”
Youda: “She’ll be fine. Yuki-san is a charismatic owner.”
Youda: (It’s a customer we prepared . . . but, I didn’t know Majima-san’s friend Nishida-san was this kind of person . . .)
Yuki: (Repel this disruptive customer prepared by Majima-san . . . I’ll show my dad what I can do! Show him I have a solid place . . . my dad with a low life expectancy . . . I’ll reassure him!)
Yuki: “This is my club! I won’t let you do anything! If you have any complaints, then settle your bill and please get out!”
Troublesome Customer: “You’re the owner? How dare you speak to your customers like that!!”
Yuki: (Huh . . . ? Nishida-san is supposed to run away if I say ‘get out’ . . . Did he not notice the cue for the little arrangement? I’ll say it more clearly . . .)
Yuki: “G . . . Get out!!”
Troublesome Customer: “Who are you to order me around!!”
Yuki: (Eeh . . . ?! He still hasn’t noticed?! It’s really spontaneous, Nishida-san. Maybe he’ll understand if I speak in a Kansai dialect? . . . Alright then!)
Yuki: “L-Let’s get out!!”
Troublesome Customer: “. . . Huh?”
Yuki: “Eh? Did I say it wrong? Then . . . Can’t get out! . . . Is it still wrong? How about . . . Please get out!”
Troublesome Customer: “What are you doing! Are you playing around!! I’m being serious!!”
Yuki: (Kansai dialect isn’t working . . . ?! I-I don’t know what more I can do!)
Yuki: “N-Nishida-san . . . I’m already saying your cue to turn back. Next time I say it . . . please run away.”
Troublesome Customer: “What the hell are you whispering!! And who is Nishida! I’m Kawano!!”
Yuki: “Ka-Kawano-san?!”
Troublesome Customer: “You keep saying a Miss like you is the owner, the owner! I was just having fun, just got a little handsy and rattled the pitcher a bit! I’m a customer who paid lots of money! How will you make up for making me feel bad!!”
Yuki: (He’s different from what I heard from Majima-san . . . This person, could it be . . . h-he’s a real disruptive customer?!)
----
Majima: “You’re a really stubborn guy . . . Hm?”
Nishida: “Boss! I have a little something to tell you . . . uguh!”
{Nishida suddenly gets Tachibana’d and drops to the ground. Fortunately, unlike Tachibana, Nishida is wearing a Majima Construction Helmet ™.}
G.B. Holmes: “Nishida-san!”
Rough-Looking Man’s Friend: “That’s one of your buddies down . . . Don’t think you can get away with doing that to our friend.”
Majima: “. . . He still has friends. I thought he only had one. But . . . it can’t be helped, Nishida. Sorry I didn’t keep them away.”
Nishida: “I’m sorry, Boss . . . ow ow . . .”
Majima: “I’ll show you right now how to pass judgment on a fool who chooses the wrong kind of prey!”
----
Troublesome Customer: “Hehe, I finally see a scared face. Then I’d like you to apologize quickly.”
Yuki: “A-An apology . . . ?”
Troublesome Customer: “I was looking forward to throwing back drinks here, so get me a lady and a waiter. Shouldn’t you pay me too? Call it a compensation fee. Then I’ll think about forgiving you a little.”
Yuki: “Th-That’s . . .”
Troublesome Customer: “I don’t care about your opinion! Bring me a lady and a waiter!!”
Yuki: “B-But . . .”
Troublesome Customer: “Do it!! Or I’ll kill you!!!!”
Yuki: “Hiii! Do-Don’t kill me!”
Troublesome Customer: “Heh, you’re a pitiful figure. If you don’t want to get killed, bring me a lady and a waiter and give me back my money! I’ll hit the waiter until his face is messed up, then I’ll bring the lady to a hotel and punish her a lot.”
Yuki: “. . . ! I . . . I won’t let you do that.”
Troublesome Customer: “. . . Oh?”
Yuki: “To do my best to give the staff peace of mind . . . that is the work . . . of an owner . . .”
Troublesome Customer: “Huh?! I’ll kill you!!”
Yuki: “I’m sorry you’re not satisfied, but everyone in the club is doing their best to serve customers. Doing things that the girls don’t like . . . If you have any complaints, you don’t have to come here anymore. Here’s your bill. Now go home and don’t come back again.”
Troublesome Customer: “Don’t come back again? Is this your attitude towards customers!!!!”
Troublesome Customer: “. . . what are you doing?”
Youda: “Apparently, he’s not the guy we prepared. As the store manager, I can’t forgive any violence!”
Yuki: “Youda-san . . . Erica-chan . . . Koyuki-chan . . . ! it’s dangerous! Stay back! Don’t get hurt for a bad owner like me!”
Youda: “. . . Didn’t you switch around my shift so I can go to the amusement park with my family? Think of this as me returning the favor.”
Koyuki: “That’s right! I also have a lot of gratitude towards Yuki-san for caring about my physical condition!”
Cast Member Erica: “Me too! You showed me a lot of kindness after my boyfriend dumped me!!”
Yuki: “E-Everyone . . .”
Troublesome Customer: “This disgusting club . . . treating me as the bad guy. If you all get in the way, then I’ll kill you all together!”
{All four of them gang up on the guy and beat him up.}
Troublesome Customer: “Haa . . . haa . . . you cowards . . . fighting 4 against 1 . . .”
Four Shine Customer A: “Not just 4! If you do anything else, we’ll join in too!”
Four Shine Customer B: “That’s right!! There’s no better club than this! If you have any complaints, then get out!!”
Troublesome Customer: “. . . ?! That’s it, I’m never coming back to this club again!”
{The disruptive customer runs out.}
Koyuki: “. . . Yuki-san, are you alright?!”
Yuki: “Y-Yeah . . . I’m okay. Everyone . . . thank you so much for your help.”
Yuki’s Father: “. . . That was great, Yuki.”
Yuki: “. . . I don’t think so. My clothes got dirty . . . I’ll go get changed a little.”
----
Yuki: “Haa . . . it’s no good . . . I . . . Even this year, I’m still being helped by people . . . Because of this, my dad can’t be reassured by the lie that I’m a ‘charismatic owner’ . . .”
Majima: “. . . As usual you’re thinking so negatively~. I . . . I don’t think that’s the case.”
Yuki: “Oh! Majima-san?!”
Majima: “Yuki-chan did well today. Didn’t you stand up against a real nuisance customer? Besides, it’s not a bad thing to be helped by people. It’s all thanks to Yuki-chan’s humanity. Youda-han, Koyuki-chan, Erica-chan, the customers, they all took the risk to help Yuki-chan.”
Yuki: “Ma-Majima-san . . .”
Majima: “I don’t know if anyone can live by themselves. If you need help, then you’ll be given help. As a father, if I found out that there are many people who can help Yuki-chan, I think that’s enough to give me peace of mind. . . . even if Yuki-chan herself is a stupid, stupid owner.”
Yuki: “. . .”
----
Yuki: “Dad . . . do you have a moment? . . . Actually, I have to apologize for something.”
Yuki’s Father: “Eh? Apologize for what . . . ?”
Yuki: “Actually . . . it’s a lie that I’m a charismatic owner of the club and everyone relies on me. As you saw, I’m a hopeless owner who can only do things with the help of everyone . . . Dad, I’m sorry for lying to you . . .”
Yuki’s Father: “. . . Is that so. I had a feeling it was like that. But I’m glad I could see your hard work even if it was a lie. Even if you being a charismatic owner is a lie, I could see you were loved by friends.”
Yuki: “Dad . . .”
Yuki’s Father: “I’m relieved that you are blessed with good friends.”
Yuki: “U . . . uugh . . . Daaad! I don’t want you to dieeeeeeee!!!!”
Majima: “Yuki-chan . . .”
Yuki’s Father: “. . . Die? What are you talking about?”
Yuki: “. . . Dad has a serious illness and only has a short life expectancy. I heard you ask the doctor to hide it from me, to ‘please keep my illness secret from my daughter’ . . .”
Yuki’s Father: “Oh, you heard that?! I should have told you properly.”
Yuki’s Father: “This is hard for me to say, but my illness is . . . ‘hemorrhoids’.”
Yuki: “Hemorrhoids . . . that is a serious illness . . . wait, hemorrhoids?!?!”
Majima, Youda, & Koyuki: “He . . . Hemorrhoids . . . !?”
Yuki: “Hemorrhoids . . . that’s . . . is it the one found on your butt? It has a similar name with a serious illness . . .”
Majima: “. . . you can’t find hemorrhoids anyplace other than the butt.”
Yuki’s Father: “I was so embarrassed it hurt so much that I fainted . . . so I kept it secret from Yuki . . .”
Yuki: “Th-Then . . . wasn’t it your life expectancy that the doctor said was only ‘one more month’?”
Yuki’s Father: “. . . That’s how long it takes for my hemorrhoids to heal completely.”
Yuki: “So when you sometimes looked like you were in such pain . . .”
Yuki’s Father: “. . . It’s because the hemorrhoids hurt.”
Yuki: “Then when you said, ‘I’m worried about Yuki’s future’, didn’t that mean you were worried about leaving me all alone?”
Yuki’s Father: “. . . I heard that the tendency to get hemorrhoids is inherited. I was worried you’d develop terrible hemorrhoids.”
Yuki: “E-Eeeeeeeeh?! So it was just a misunderstanding that you have a short life expectancy?!”
Yuki’s Father: “Th-That’s right. I’m sorry for the misunderstanding . . .”
Yuki: “I-I see . . .”
Majima: “. . . Haa, I was so exhausted trying to make this work. And it was all because I was swayed by hemorrhoids.”
Koyuki: “I was almost crying until a while ago . . . but it was just hemorrhoids . . .”
Youda: “What was the point of the strategy we brainstormed last night . . .”
Yuki: “Majima-san, Koyuki-chan, Youda-san . . . um . . . I-I’m so sorry!! I-I know! I’ll apologize to everyone with sushi! So . . . please forgive me! See, with the money in my wallet . . . huh? Huh?! I don’t have my wallet . . . Wh-Where did I drop it? Le-let me look for it for a second! Aaa~h, I can’t find it anywhere!!”
Majima: “Haa . . . Yuki-chan will always be Yuki-chan.”
Yuki’s Father: “You’re right . . . hahaha.”
Yuki: “Where did you gooo~ my wallet!!!!”

series masterlist | main masterlist
Will was currently sitting in an old school diner booth, viewing the people pass on the street. Seeing Hailey’s text that she was worried about Jay, he had wasted no time in setting up a Halstead brothers lunch. He was glad that Jay had a partner that had his back the way Hailey did. Will knew that Jay had always struck lucky in partners - apart from that asshole when he was in patrol - but he could tell that Jay truly trusted Hailey. Hell, she probably knew some things that no one else knew. Will would be lying if he said that he didn’t notice the way they looked at each other too… Will watched the large truck pull up and a few seconds later, the detective walked in - the head to toe black complimenting the red and white diner.
“Hey Man” he greeted as he stood up, hugging Jay. “Hey.” Jay said sitting down, “Why the lunch?” “Got the night shift tonight, why not?” he replied, trying to sound casual. “Uh huh.” Jay said unconvinced, starting to peruse the menu. “Soo- You okay?” Will dragged out. “Yeah. I’m good. I’m thinking the monte cristo with fries” he flashed a smile but Will knew better. “Jay -” “Mads texted this morning. Asked if we wanted to meet up this weekend’. I’m free both days. You?” “Wha- Hold on. She knows I’m back? How’d she take it?” “Not the question. So, you free or not?” “Yeah. I’m free Saturday.” he answered promptly, wanting to know Madeline’s reaction. “Cool. Saturday it is then” Jay said, shooting a text. “So? What did she say?” the doctor asked again, worried about the outcome. “She didn’t say anything, didn’t get to tell her” he said, his lips curving at the screen. “Wha- Jay, you sure this is a good idea? Maybe you should see her first” Will rambled. “No, we’re gonna go see her Saturday Will” Jay stated matter of factly. “Jay. Think about this, do we wanna throw surpri-” “Will. It’s been 5 years. I think she’d want to see us together. If you don’t wanna come then fine.” Jay said curtly but Will was unphased. He knew how much pressure Jay was putting on himself for this to go right. “No no, of course I’m coming little brother. So you’re thinking the monte cristo huh?”
- That Saturday -
“You sure this is the place?” Will said getting out of the truck, 15 minutes early as usual as it was going anywhere with Jay. They found themselves on a tucked away street in Lincoln Park, in front of what looked to be a house - a two story with tiled roofs and a charming small arched wooden door. “Only one way to find out,” Jay said, leading the way.
They were greeted with the aroma of coffee and the warmth that enveloped the atmosphere - different shades of wood and plants hugged the walls as glass pendants like jewels, lit the space. There was a sense of calm even as the chatter filled the popular coffee shop. The brothers parted to try and find a spot but came back almost instantly.
“You find any?” Jay nodded towards Will. “Nope, you?” Will asked, popping the p. “Mmm” Jay shook his head. “Check upstairs?” he said, already walking towards the staircase - decorated with various frames and artworks - but stopped at the hand painted ‘reserved’ sign hung on the post. “Huh. Guess we’ll just wait ti-” “You must be Jay” the two brothers jumped at the sudden voice.
Will held back a chuckle as they turned around and the detective faced the older woman whom he guessed to be in her late 70’s. Jay in his signature all black and the woman in full technicolor - A monochrome striped jacket over a stark white shirt and green patterned trousers, adorned with a chunky resin necklace and a multitude of multicoloured bracelets. She was of a petite stature with short brown hair, smile lines showing on her golden olive skin. “Uhh yes?” Jay said confused, not knowing how she knew his name. “Oh, I got ahead of myself” she laughed, the pink lipstick complimenting the twinkle in her eyes. “I’m Rosa, I own this little place. You gentlemen wanting to head upstairs?” “Sorry. We’re supposed to meet up with our sister and were hoping for seats up there but” Jay said, indicating towards the sign. “Well, a good thing that it’s reserved for you. Follow me” she winked and the brothers raised their eyebrows before doing so.
They took in the room when they reached the landing. A couple of petite tables with mismatched chairs were dotted around while two leather armchairs in front of the fireplace centered the space. Flames danced within the intricate mahogany mantel, flanked by shelves overflowing with books. Their eyes travelled to the far end of the room - a mixture of emerald and gold illuminated with natural light.
“That’s her favourite spot right there. She was just so excited, I insisted on reserving it. Such a sweet girl.” Rosa smiled moving further, inviting them to follow. “I thought she only mentioned meeting you. Although my memory is getting a bit awry these days” she laughed looking up at Jay. “You thought right, we’re surprising her” Jay winked, charming Rosa. Will chuckled before following with his introduction “I’m Will. Madeline’s other brother. It’s nice to meet you” “Ahhh, the New York doctor. Visiting?” she asked, gesturing to them for their coats. “Uh- No, here to stay.” he said, kicking himself as he was reminded yet again of the missed time between him and his baby sister. “A full reunion - how lovely! She’ll be ecstatic, she always missed you two.” her smile broadened before continuing, “Madeline said that you’d order a regular and what can I get you?” looking to Jay then Will while hanging their coats. “A cappuccino please” the older brother smiled. “Alright. Well, I’ll leave you two to it. Family’s a special thing, there’s never a wrong time to reconnect. I hope that surprise goes well!” she encouraged before walking away.
They sat on the emerald velvet banquette along the window, framed from the room by gold silk curtains. As they waited, only the faint cracklings of the fire were heard, the layers of fabric absorbing the carrying chatter. The brothers couldn’t help but notice a familiarity, a sense of home in this treasure of a place they had just come to discover.
“And here I was thinking I would be early” a light laughter pulled the brothers out of their thoughts. Will saw how Jay’s features lit up in an instant. “Maddie! There she is” he beamed, getting out of the seat as Madeline walked towards the booth. Jay hesitated for a second but enveloped his sister in a bear hug as soon as she crashed into him. “I really really missed you” she mumbled into his chest “I really really missed you too,” Jay said softly, kissing the top of her head. They stayed like this for a while, not wanting to let go - tears sprung in both their eyes, Madeline feeling fully protected for the first time in years. “So you got here okay?” she asked when Jay loosened his arms. “Uh yeah. We did.” he said, the corner of his lips curling. “We?” Madeline said confused, Will still hidden by the curtain. Will took this opportunity to make his way to them, taking in his sister for the first time in half a decade. “Hi Maddie” he breathed out, his eyes creasing. A sharp inhale filled the room as Madeline’s eyes widened. She stood there, frozen, only her eyelashes fluttering as she blinked in disbelief. “Will?” she choked out as if she was imagining him. “Yeah Maddie. It’s me” he shared a rueful smile. “Uh- Wha- You’re-” she struggled to speak against her quickening breaths, overcome with emotion. Her heartbeat filled her body like thunder, so loud she couldn’t even think. Guilt consumed Jay as he watched the light strip away behind his older brother's eyes. I shouldn’t have made him come, he cursed himself What was I thinking?? “I- I’m sorry Maddie. I shouldn’t have- I-I’ll go” Will struggled to choke back the tears. He kicked himself for even feeling … he couldn’t even put a word to it. I mean what was he expecting? For her to just jump into his arms like when she was 5? After what happened the last time? The doctor rushed to put his coat on but stopped at the gush of air from the arms crashing around his waist. “Y- You’re here” she cried into him, “Y-You came back.” The two brothers stared at each other in confusion, Will’s arms limp at his sides. Jay, what’s happening?! I dunno man, do something!! “Maddie?” Will spoke gently, trying to loosen away from her grip so that he could see her face, but she clung on tighter. “D-Don’t let go. Not yet” her voice muffled against his shirt. His heart clenched as he wrapped his arms tightly around her. After a while, her grip loosened and she blinked up at him. “You okay?” he asked softly. “Yeah” she smiled wiping her eyes with her sleeve. “Sorry about your shirt” “All good. You sure you’re okay? I can go.” Will searched her face, looking for confirmation. She scrunched her nose in confusion, hanging up her periwinkle wool coat “You jus-” “Alrigghttt. I got a regular, a cappuccino, your usual and … I just interrupted something didn’t I?” The brothers turned around to find a 20 something barista paused at the landing - he had white skin, brown side parted hair and blue plaids. College student? Probably goes to DePaul Jay thought. “All good.” Madeline laughed before raising her eyebrows and smirking “Wait is that?” “Mmhh Rosa's tres leches. You know what she always says - celebration calls for cake” the barista said, placing Madeline’s order where Will had sat. “You guys, Rosa’s tres leches is heavenly” she beamed before helping Nic when she noticed him pausing where to place the others. “Nic, these are my brothers Jay and Will. Jay and Will meet Nic, the barista extraordinaire” They all exchanged smiles and small talk as the siblings made their way to the banquette - Madeline where Nic had placed her latte and Jay by the windows while Will pulled up a chair and sat opposite him. The brothers didn’t fail to catch how this ‘Nic’ touched their little sister's arm or how he winked at her before he left.
Gotta give it to this guy for not crumbling under Jay’s stare. That thing is deadly Will amused. “Soo that’s Nic huh?” He teased. “He’s friendly,” Jay added. “Mmhh and a coffee maker genius” Madeline smiled at her napkin which displayed a doodle of a robot holding a steaming mug. The brothers raised their eyebrows when she looked up from adding flowers around it. “What? It’s just a thing we do” “Uh huh sure. My barista draws me things all the time” Will teased again. “And winks at me too” Jay muttered. “Stooop. You guys are just salty cause you don’t have a coffee place” she pouted rolling her eyes. Will chuckled, finding her expression just as adorable as when she was 6.“So you come here a lot huh?” he asked. “Yeah it’s like my special hiding place. Reminds me of home …” They caught the faraway look in her eyes before she shook them off.
Jay watched as she fiddled with a charm on her bracelet, debating in her head. “What is it Mads?” he asked softly. “Um- When do you have to go back?” she shared a rueful smile looking at Will. “Never. I moved back here 3 years ago” “Wait, you’re here? And staying?” she shook her head, doing a double take. “Uh yeah that’s the plan” Will gulped, waiting to scope her reaction. “This is- Wha- I mean- I didn’t think you’d-” “Maddie you okay?” Will tried to catch her face. They watched as she breathed out deeply “Yeah” - when she looked up, her features were filled with light “You came home” “Yeah, I did” Will chuckled, releasing a breath he didn’t know he was holding. “So? What do you do? D’you have a practice? You’re still a surgeon right?” she asked with the same curiosity as she had done with Jay. “Mads, you’ll be happy to know that our brother here got bored of the breast implants. Isn’t that right?” Jay amused. “Shut the fu-” Will breathed out before clearing his throat. “Ooo Will! Language” Jay tutted “Come on man pay up” “You guys, I’m old enough,” Madeline laughed. “Nope, never,” he grinned, handing a dollar bill to Madeline. “And yeah, I’m now an ER doc at Chicago Med” “Chicago Med like Gaffneys?” she tilted her head. “Yeah…?” “That’s- Okay, this is gonna sound random but do you know Dr Rhodes? He’s a surgeon too” The two brothers choked on their coffees at the mention. “Y-Yeah. Will works with him” Jay coughed out, Will yet to recover. “What do you think of him?” the brothers noticed the slight nervousness through her nonchalant tone. “Connor? He’s a good guy. One of the best surgeons in the city” Will said. “Woahh. High praise for someone that you called - what was it? a little arrogant?” Jay raised his brow. “What? Will, Connors not like that” she said, jokingly pushing his arm. “Yeah Yeah I know that now.” Will rolled his eyes before going back to investigate, needing to put his mind at ease. “Hang on, how do you know him?” Was she Connor’s patient? What happened? Why is Maddie needing a cardiothoracic surgeon of all things? When? How had he not noticed? Why the hell didn’t Connor tell him? “Well not really. You guys probably know him more - we met at this charity thing. He’s really nice, we had dinner last week” Madeline chattered not noticing their change in expression. “H- Mads, What?” Jay tensed. They only really knew each other through the ED and the occasional drink at Molly’s but unlike Will, Jay had liked Connor from the beginning. But him having dinner with his sister? She’s only 19! The red started to build up in his body and he looked to Will, Are you hearing this? Jay, man. Calm down, just see where this goes. Jay rolled his eyes at the response but quickly tuned back into Madeline’s light chatter.
“... place we went to, I can’t remember the name but they have like the best tacos. And you know what we did? Ordered every single one off the menu cause they all looked soo good. All 12! Worth it though and I don’t know how but they tasted even better the next day.” she laughed showing them her phone. The screen showing a laughing Connor in a little restaurant, their table filled with tacos. Neither of them had ever seen him look more joyous. Jay shot a look to Will See man what did I tell you? So? Jay c'mon man, he just took her out for tacos. Jay wasn’t even surprised at Will's response. Docs, always seeing the benefit of the doubt. Needing proof Jay asked, “You just go out for dinner?” “Yeah. Or for coffee… or brunch. Honestly I think he’s just worried that I’m not eating enough or something” she joked. “Not that I’m complaining though. He knows really cool places. Oh and you know what he’s surprisingly good at?” “What?” Will chuckled although Jay caught the nervousness building behind his eyes. “Shopping!” she chuckled. “H-He took you shopping?” Jay reiterated, more to prove a point to Will. “Mmhh. I was stressed out cause I needed a dress for this gala but I don’t really like shopping so” she shrugged, flicking through her phone. “I already picked it out but do you guys want to see?” The brothers agreed in unison and their eyes creased as they flicked through, their sister looking graceful in numerous gowns. They paused as they got to a video, wanting to get permission. “Oh yeah. I deleted the other ones after I showed Charlie but that’s the one I’m gonna wear.”
“What number’s this one?” they instantly recognised Connor’s voice. The camera was pointed towards a doorway where blush metallic wallpaper peeked out towards the champagne coloured space. “Umm I think number 8?” Madeline’s voice carried from the connecting room. The space seemed quiet, light music playing in the background. A private fitting room? So this is what shopping with The Connor Rhodes is like … “Here we go …” she announced in an intricate lilac knee length gown, embroidered with dainty flower motifs, the shimmering beads complimenting her eyes. “What do you think?” she bit her lip. “Honey, you look beautiful,” a smile was evident in his voice. “Connor, you say that about every dress” she huffed, still in the doorway. “Well because it's true” He chuckled. “But more importantly, how does it feel?” “Ummm flowy…” she said as she glided around before going to sit on a french style chair. “Passes the sit test” she shrugged. “Okayy but how do you feel?” he coaxed. “I like it. I think- I think it feels the best out of all the other ones” She smiled timidly. “Yeah? That’s good, do you want to try on more?” “Mmm, No” she shook her head. The brothers noticed a look they didn’t recognize. “You sure? We can come back a different day” They observed as Madeline sat there, her mind forcing her somewhere else - an all too familiar look to Will. “Maddie? Honey what’s wrong?” She blinked slightly and flashed a smile “Nothing. I’m fine” They saw her contemplating to share before continuing “It’s just uh- I feel good in this- but that’s good right? And you know what Ashley told me? This gown, it's called ‘The Moonlit Meadow’ isn’t that perfect?” They couldn’t quite place the look that flashed briefly as it got masked over by her smile. “Uhh- yeah.” Will recognised Connor holding back as he switched to a lighter tone, “Very on theme. So this the one?” “Yep. It’s the one. Oh! Just a sec, Ashley already found me the perfect shoes and clutch too” she said, disappearing back into the pink room. She came back out a few seconds later with a matching clutch and strappy silver heels. “Real pretty. What’d you say? We do a show?” Connor encouraged. “Only because there’s no one here and I want Charlie to see the look” she laughed before starting to glide across the room, her cheeks flushing. “Yeahhh! Nice!” As she jokingly twirled, they noticed that the wall at the far end of the room looked out of place - Jay identified that it was covered in tissue paper, hints of a mirror peaking through.
If the girl in the video was anyone other than his sister then Jay might have said that Connor was a sweet guy. But this was Madeline. He took some breaths trying to control the bubbling anger - The way things went down with Robin was harsh and we all heard Connor’s reputation but man his baby sister?! The hell is he doing hiding it from Will? The nerve of this guy. I mean they work with each other. Calling her honey my ass. And who’s this Charlie prick?
Man this is not good. Will thought, wincing at Jays quiet but glaring eyes. Jays ready to bulldoze in “Maddie-” Will started calmly but was taken over by Jay “Mads, this isn’t right” he said through a clenched jaw. “What isn’t?” Madeline had a genuine look of confusion. “Wh-Why are you mad? We just went shopping” The rage he had that was about to be spilled over was reigned back as soon as he saw her puppy eyes. “Mads- You’re 19 and he’s a little older than Will. And he’s calling you Hon-” Light filled the room as Madeline bursted into laughter “Oh my- you don’t think-” she wheezed. At the realization, Will relaxed and joined. “Wha- Will, this isn’t funny.” Jay shook his head. “It is though. Y-you don’t honestly think- t-that C-Connor and I are- ” she wheezed through her laughing fit, now crashing on the banquette. “So you two aren’t together? There’s nothing going on?” Jay asked, needing the confirmation. “No!” she laughed “Obviously! Connor’s not like that! And if I was, I would have never shown you the video” Will saw Jay visibly relax and chuckle, “Mads, don’t do that to me again. Because I was gonna go over there and-” “Nope. No thanks. Don’t need to hear” she joked, “And full disclosure so you can fully chill, we started this because he’s been helping me with some maths stuff for class. He’s a really good teacher” “Sorry what? You have to take maths at college?” Jay feigned disgust. “Aww look at that. Our little going to college” Will beamed, “So? C’mon what’s your major? Where’d you go?” “PoliSci and French minor. Love it so far” she beamed. “And It’s their online course but Northwestern.” she smiled timidly.
“Wha- Maddie! Come’ere!” the two brothers beamed, hugging Madeline as they sandwiched her in between. “This is amazing Mads. You know that right?” Jay said, ruffling her hair. “Yeah Maddie, super proud” Will grinned. “And Jay told me you’re training to be a ballerina?” “Mmhh. At Joffrey’s. I’m in their studio company program” “That sounds great but hang on cause I wanna know what that means” Jay said, already scrolling through his phone. “Oh, it’s just another name for their trainees” she brushed off but they instantly recognised that there was more. “Mads, it says that it’s a scholarship program” Jay coaxed. “Yeah, but it’s really not a big deal” she blushed. “Sorry, what’s that?” Jay smirked, enveloping her. “No big deal? Maddie, are you kidding? It’s the biggest deal” Will joined in. “Stoppp, you're squishing me!” Madeline squirmed. “No way you’re getting out of this Halstead hug” Will grinned, tightening his arms.
As they laughed, the same warmth filled their minds. I’m home

A/N - Thank you for reading! I just realised that I hadn’t uploaded this chapter the same time as I did on ao3 and ff.net back in September so I am so sorry for the delay. The characters belong to Dick Wolf and are from the One Chicago universe he created.
