OCEAN EYES
Summary: In which the son of the God of thieves, is head over heels in love with the daughter of the sea God.
Warnings: possible grammar mistakes.
Pairing: Luke x daughter of Poseidon x Little brother Percy
------------------------------------------------------------
Luke Catellan could remember much more than clearly the first time time he set eyes upon his precious Marella, the way all the campers ran to the Lake to watch the arrival of the God and Goddess of the sea, and in between them was a breathtaking little girl clinging on to her father and mother's hands.
Luke had never seen a goddess before but in that moment Amphitrite looked as if her heart had been torn from her chest, and Poseidon held a serious face. Luke observed from the sidelines next to Annabeth as Mr. D and Chiron went out on the deck to meet then, Chiron bowing his head in pure respect to the God of the sea.
All the campers observed the scene before them, the short exchange of words between Gods, Luke's eyes completely glued to the little girl who stood with pure elegance between her parents, a heartbroken look on her face, causing Luke's heart to pain at her displeasure.
Soon enough the Sea God passed a small bag of some sort to Chiron, as he let out a harsh sigh looking over to his wife who was on the verge of tears, he watched Poseidon fall to his knees before the little girl, stopping for a moment to touch her face before embracing the small girl in a hug, his wife cried next to him lowering herself as well pressing a kiss to her husband's bastard's face, she muttered soft words of reassurance to the girl before her husband gently began pulling her away
The entire camp watched as Mr. D offered the crying girl his hand allowing him to guid her to her Cabin, Luke watched as Poseidon and Amphitrite walked back into the lake, sad looks displayed on both of their Godly faces.
"Hey Luke, are you okay?" asked Percy Jackson his bright blue orbs looking up at him, the same eyes that would look up at him with such love and adoration any other day, as they had been heading towards lunch, "yeah, sorry about that buddy" said the Hermes boy before replacing his emotionless face with his usual bright smile.
"He's probably daydreaming about his precious Ocean Princess" said Chris with a teasing laugh, causing Luke to give him a death glare, "ocean Princess?" asked Percy, "Yeah, actually she's the reason he was late to training this morning" teased the Hermes boy.
Percy gave Luke a look of confusion causing him to sigh, "Marella, she's the daughter of the sea god" explained Luke to the young boy, "She's Poseidon's kid?" asked Percy, "I thought you said Zeus, Poseidon and Hades weren't allowed to have children."
"they aren't that's why they are called forbidden kids, Thalia was the first of them, but when Poseidon found out he felt threatened so he decided to get back at Zeus and he had a daughter as well who he made a gift to his wife" stated Chris, "So if she was gift to Amphitrite how did she end up here?" asked Percy trying to keep up with the older boys pace.
"Zeus found out and thought his brother's actions disrespectful, but when he found out the demigod was a little girl he didn't have the heart to kill her, so he demanded she be taken to camp, Amphitrite begged him not to take her away, but her sadness was more than enough punishment for Poseidon" explained Luke, stopping in his tracks a huge smile forming on his face.
Percy turned his head to look at what he was looking at, there in the water stood a girl, her hips swaying from side to side, her long curly hair passing her lower back swaying with her movements, her hands moving in graceful motions, her writs, ankles, waist and neck adorned with different types of shell bracelets and necklaces, the water around glowed and splashed along side her movements.
"Whoah" breathed out Percy, causing Chris to laugh as he watched Luke walk down to the edge on the lake, standing behind her, Percy observed the small fishes swimming around her following her movements and the soft humming passing her lips.
And soon enough the girl came to a halt slowly turning to see Luke standing there with a stupid grin on his face, Percy was quick to take notice to the way her glowing eyes soon came to a light blue shade, a spitting image of his own.
The new camper watched the girl graceful move her hand out towards the lake signaling for the fish to return to their activities, she smiled at Luke her beautiful dimples forming on both sides of her face causing Luke's heart to race, as she so gracefully made her way out of the water to where Luke stood.
Percy watched the girl raise her hand up to Luke's hight to softly sooth her thumb over Luke's scar, Percy couldn't believe his eyes as he watched his new found friend melt by just the touch of the pretty girl's fingers, she said something to Luke but Percy couldn't hear from his stance next to Chris.
He watched the short girl giggle at something his friend said before the older boy quickly ran over to where some navy blue flip-flops laid on the beach the pretty slippers also adorned with shells, he quickly placed them down for her to put on, before offering her his arm which she accepted with a smile before Luke guided her in their direction.
"He's so wiped" stated Percy, "I know" said Chris his eyes following the pair as they finally reached them, "Ella" greeted Chris doing a playful bow in respect of her, causing her to laugh, "always the jest Chris" she said her thick English accent rolling effortlessly off her tongue.
"Oh Princess, this is Percy Jackson the new camper I was telling you about, the one that killed the minotaur" explained Luke to Marella, "oh yes, the one the Ares kids have been speaking of, it is a true pleasure to finally meet you Percy" she said with a pretty smile.
“I- it’s a pleasure to meet you too, your highness?” Said Percy his mouth hanging open slightly at his lack of words, the girl simply giggled at the boys reaction, “please, just call me Ella these two are simply messing around about the princess thing” explained the girl, “well it’s nice to meet you too Ella”
——————————————————————————
The next day after Percy's incident in the bathroom he had gotten up early before his other fellow campers and made his way out to the lake, walking out to the dock Percy soon took notice to the curly haired girl seated to the very end of it with her feet hanging off the very edge into the water.
"Hey" greeted Percy causing her to turn to face him, she beamed up at him, "Good Morning sleepyhead" she greeted patting the empty space next to her, turning back to watch the sun continue to rise.
Percy smiled quickly occupying the empty space, mumbling a small good morning under his breath, "Why are you up so early?" asked the girl swirly her feet in the water. Percy glanced down and his brows lifted in surprise as he was met with the sight of baby tadpoles following her motions in the water.
"I guess I couldn't sleep, um this girl last night, Annabeth she said I was gonna help her win today?" said the unsure boy scratching the back of his head in confusion.
Ella let out a little laugh at his words, "Oh that Annabeth always three paces ahead of everyone" sighed out the ocean beauty before leaning back bracing herself on her palms, "You know her?" asked Percy, "Everyone at camp knows Annabeth she's been here for ages along with Luke, she's led the blue team into victory three straight times" stated the older girl.
"So that's what she was talking about me being on their team?" asked Percy, "Most likely" she responded, "Are you on our team? I'm just guessing because you and Luke seem very close..." rambled the young boy.
Ella chuckled at his words, "No love, I'm not allowed to part take in such sport" she explained, "Because you're a forbidden kid?" "Not really, let's just say if I was allowed it wouldn't be much of a competition" Ella shrugged, "So I'm guessing because there is no other living forbidden children here to compete with me, Chiron asked me quite politely to not take part in it" she explained.
"Oh that makes sense" said Percy take a glance at the girl before turning back to the sunrise fiddling with his fingers, "I um have a question and I really hope you don't mind me asking, but Chris told me you were raised by Poseidon and Amphitrite..." Ella took a deep breath before replying, "You wish to know how it happened?" she asked to which Percy quickly nodded.
"When my father found out of Thalia's being he thought her a threat, and felt betrayed by his brother so he decided if Zeus was calling another war, he would also have his warrior. I don't know much of my biological mother but from what my father has told me she adored the ocean and for her dedication and love to it Poseidon gifted her the opportunity to be my mother, and when the time came he took me to Atlantis and there Amphitrite took me and raised and loved me as her own, but when Zeus found out of my being, he found me a threat to his throne, he believed my father was plotting against him, so he banished me here to camp where I am not allowed to go past the border, I am forbidden to see my father but Zeus allows my mother to visit me at least once a year" spoke Ella as Percy listened intently.
"that's not fair, to have you ripped away from your family and home" stated Percy his brows now frowned in sadness, "It does not matter what is fair, the Gods do not care, either ways Zeus was smart to take me away from them, my father has been preparing me to win a war since I took my very first step, and my mother has taught me to rule, Zeus was smart with his actions, besides if I wasn't banished I wouldn't have met any of you guys" smiled the girl which Percy hesitated before returning.
"Come on now little one we must get you breakfast, after all you have have long day ahead of you” said Ella lifting her hand to rub Percy's hair causing him to laugh, maybe he could find his place here after all.
------------------------------------------------------------
Ella resigned in her cabin alone as always, a book in hand as she laid on her bed waiting patiently for Luke to come seek her out and tell her all about his win, how she adored to listen to the charming Hermes boy ramble to her about anything and everything, just having the opportunity to look at his handsome face and listen to his attractive voice was more than enough to satisfy her.
Hearing the sound of her cabin door opening she placed her her book down to the side sitting up to face the intruder, "Ella, Chiron is looking for you" spoke Annabeth from the doorway a strange look on her face, "Why, what's the matter Beth?" asked Ella.
"It's Percy he's been claimed" stated Annabeth taking short steps forward, Ella smiled to the Athena girl "That's marvelous news, but what's the matter then Beth?" asked the daughter of Poseidon to the pride of Athena "Ella... he's been claimed by Poseidon, Percy is your brother."

Misa from Cabin 2 has made floating lanterns for the crafts, would you like one? @tmnt-fandom-family-reunion

Walking.
Was not as easy.
As Mikey remembered it being.
The poor turtle gasped, out of breath and leaning against a wall, trying to steady his shaky legs and catch his breath. After having cried himself out, Mikey had decided it would be best to just... leave. Stuck in his cabin until the craft fair was over. He was probably bringing everyone's mood down, and it's not like he was being useful. He couldn't make pretty crafts like everyone else and didn't want his family fussing over him when they could be having fun. So he would just. Stay inside. Keep Ice Cream Kitty company.
What the box turtle forgot was the fact he wasn't able to walk long distances on his own anymore. He was still too weak. Which, okay, fine, made sense- the reason however was stupid. Like seriously? He didn't do much! He just opened a mystic portal that almost killed him twice for Leo! And he didn't even do it on his own! No big deal.
Try telling his body that.
The turtle prepared himself mentally before letting go, and taking unsteady steps again. But once his legs started hurting with the strain Mikey decided it was probably for the best to take a break. So at the first shaded area he found, he sat down. Leaned his head back, and closed his eyes.
...Oh, who was he kidding.
He wouldn’t get up for a while. So the box turtle could only pray his brothers wouldn’t notice his abs- Michelangelo.
His eyes snapped open.
He had promised Michelangelo to make bracelets and pass them around.
...
He grumbled, leaning his head against his knees. Michelangelo would understand. He was a version of him, he would get the idea. Tiredly, Mikey opened his eyes and looked at the ceiling.
Being greeted by many, colorful, floating lanterns.
His eyes lit up, forgetting his misery for a moment.
Blue, red, yellow, green, pink... every color floated around beautifully, decorating the ceiling with pretty sparkles, lighting up the cave, and matching with the crystals. Woah... how had he not seen the lanterns before? They were beautiful.
Now that he actually looked... Mikey saw many versions of them with the lanterns, laughing and smiling as they let the objects float into the air... getting the lanterns from a stall Mikey sat pretty close to.
"Hello!" He yelped at the sudden voice, flinching back and turning around. A young child dressed in red was standing in front him, holding a yellow lantern in her hands. Wait, she looked familiar... Misa! Right! The one who gave Raph that plush turtle. Mikey had been too tired to say hi. "Are you okay?"
"..." Mikey smiled softly. Aw. Oh that voice was cute. "Misa, right? I'm okay. Just tired."
She smiled brightly and held out the lantern she was holding. "Would you like a lantern? Misa made them herself!"
"You did?" He looked impressed, sitting up straighter and holding out his hands to grab it- but stopped, just before he touched the lantern.
...
His hands shook too much. It... would be best to not accidentally destroy the art she had worked so hard on. She Mikey lowered his hands, admiring the piece with his eyes instead. "It's very pretty! Did you make it all on your own?"
Misa giggled sweetly, and nodded. Mikey looked over the lantern again.
The details... the craftsmanship, the colors, the lights, how had she even managed to make them float-? And they glowed! The sun was painted on so nicely too. Oh they were so pretty. She had done an amazing job. "They're very pretty." He complimented. "Could you throw that one into the air for me? I can't do it."
Hey, he might not be able to make art anymore... but he could still appreciate it.

If Bubba Had Lived In WWWOH: AHNF
By JJ
Summary: The title says it all.
(Inspired by @fazbearedits !)
Nicky was walking home with Enzo and Maritza, his eyes a little sore from playing video games with Enzo.
He thought it would help take his mind off of Lucy's death, but all it did was make his eyes hurt.
"You doing better, Nicky?", asked Maritza. Nicky looked at her and shrugged.
And he couldn't help but notice that she'd stopped wearing the Golden Apple charm bracelet that her, Lucy and Mya wore to symbolize their friendship. He wanted to ask her about it, but then he thought that maybe she didn't want to wear it because it reminded her too much of Lucy.
Or maybe she lost it.
Either way, he decided to keep quiet.
When he finally got to his house, his eyes widened when he saw a white van pulled out in front. There were also men in overalls taking boxes out of the house.
Nicky assumed the worst.
He immediately ran inside past the men, and he saw his parents in the kitchen. His dad was holding his mother and rubbing comforting circles around her back as she cried into his shoulder.
"Mom! Dad!", said Nicky, grabbing both of their attention, "Are we moving again?"
Luanne rubbed her eyes and turned to look at her son for a moment, "No, sweetie.", she said.
"GET YOUR FILTHY HANDS OFF OF ME!"
Nicky nearly jumped out of his skin when he heard the screams and yelling of his grandmother coming from outside, and he ran out of the house to see what the van said on the hood.
Raven Brooks Nursing Home
Nicky felt his eyes widen and his knees wobble.
His parents were sending his grandmother away.
Enzo and Maritza ran to Nicky and sat him down on the patio, watching as two men kept firm grips on Bubba as they tried to push her into the back of the van.
The elderly lady seemed to notice them watching her, because she started yelling out to Nicky.
"YOU CURSED CHILD! THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!", she screamed, "FIRST IT WAS THE GIRL, AND NOW IT'S ME! YOU AND YOUR LITTLE DEMON FRIEND WILL ATONE FOR YOUR SINS!"
When the men finally got her in the van, they slammed the doors shut, got in the front seats and drove off.
...And just like that, Bubba was gone.
"What a nut job.", Maritza mumbled under her breath, Enzo gently elbowed her, earning his sister punching his arm.
Later that night, Nicky heard his mother crying in hers and Dad's shared bedroom. He gently opened the door and walked in, and the sight of his dear mother crying broke his heart, crushing it into dust.
Bubba was gone because of him.
He sat down next to her, and Luanne finally looked up to see her son. "Nicky, what're you doing here?", she asked.
Then out of nowhere, Nicky started crying into his hands. His mother scooted over to him and wrapped her arms around him.
"I'm so sorry, Mom.", Nicky said in between sobs, "This is all my fault. I'm the reason Bubba's gone."
Luanne shook her head, "Honey, don't blame yourself for this.", she said, calming down a little from her own crying fit. "Your grandmother has been unstable for years, and it took us until your friend's funeral to realize that. If anyone's at fault here, it's us."
Nicky started to calm down a little, and then he finally stopped crying.
"The good news is your father has agreed to let us go see her on weekends, but he doesn't want to go with us.", said Luanne. "How does that sound, honey?"
Nicky nodded, "I'd love that a lot, Mom."
With that, Nicky walked out of the room with one last hug goodnight to his mother.
He went to bed, with one last thought on his mind.
"I never thought it would come to this.", he thought, "Could my life get any worse?"
Little did he know, it would.

The white death stepped onto the train, to see his daughter.
“Daughter.” He said in Russian.
“Father.” She said back.
❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎
Ladybug stepped out with the briefcase. It beeped.
“Hey, uh, fellas, I’m looking for a Mr. Death. Got his case here.” He said to a few assassins. They snapped their heads to the strange man, carrying the case, and wearing a little bracelet with a deer and a ladybug charm. he got one for himself as well, to match with you.
“Hey, easy.” He said, as they roughly took the case. They hit him in the stomach, he groaned and fell to his knees.
They drew sharp blades and he sighed.
“Hurt people hurt people.”
❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎
You watched the scene go down, while moving from car to car, as he slowly got farther and farther.
“He’ll be fine, love.” Tangerine grabbed your hand, and started to run.
❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎
“I came to see you.” The prince said.
“Hm.”
“And to make you finally see me. The real me.”
“Hm.”
“I built myself up from the nothing you gave me. All do I could be the one in front of you today…” she looked down at her gun, and brought it to his face.
“My finger on the trigger. I was the one… who deserved your attention. Your love. I’m more like you than that little fuckup ever was.”
He took her gun, she breathed heavily. He laughed and pointed it at her as she cried.
“Do it. I came here to kill you. So kill me. Kill me like you did all the others who tried the same. Do it. Fucking do it!”
He moved the gun up, and imitated a gun shot to tease her. “Pow.” He laughed and went closer to her.
“I see you, dochka. I always have.” He grabbed her jaw. “But you have never been part of my plan.” He pushed her aside, his men following after him.
“We found the American!” One said, and the white death looked at him on his knees.
“What about the others?”
“They’re all dead. Uh, good news is I have your case.”
“Ay, good news, good news.”
“Clear the train.”
❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎
“All right, Thomas. Time for you to start up-“ Lemon said, and paused.
“Oh shit, everything’s in Japanese. There is no episode in Japanese. What the f-“
You and Tangerine went against the man’s orders, and went to help Kimura anyways.
“Thought you could use the help.” You shrugged when he asked what you were doing there. You grabbed the katana out of your back holster.
“Hell yeah.” You muttered, waiting around the corner with it as tangerine stood far away from you.
❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎
“Get on the ground!” One of his men told the man, he kneeled onto the floor.
❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎
“Man, I got a bad feeling about this. We have no idea what’s in this case.”
“What are you talkin’ about?” The other assassin said.
“Why is it always gotta be us that opens this shit?”
“Just open the case. I’d like to keep my fuckin’ arms.”
“Uhh, Mr. Death, if I may? The shadow buyer, who bought all our contracts, got us all on this train, Me, the hornet, Tangerine, Lemon.. Deer. That was you, right?” Ladybug asked.
“Yes, very astute. I brought you on this train hoping you’d kill each other.”
“Okay. Well, um… if I could… why?”
“Why you do what you do?”
“You know I’ve been asking that very question. I kept going because of deer, but… now I have no reason too, honestly.” He said, trying to sell it that she was dead. If he found out , and he killed her himself, he would’ve never forgave himself
“If it’s so safe, why didn’t he just open it? What if it’s a bomb and it blows up in our faces? You think these stupid masks are gonna protect us?”The assassin said.
❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎
“All these years later… the burden of your betrayal still heavy upon your heads. Let me relieve you of both.” The elder said, the assassins looked confused.
❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎
“My wife… was taken from me.”
“I heard. I’m so sorry for your loss. It was a horrible accident.”
The white death laughed “Horrible.”
“Oh, no, no. No. Nothing in life is an accident. It was an assassination attempt on me. Fate put two wet work operatives, twins, on a job in Bolivia, butchering my entire crew. And I had to go deal with it.”
Ladybug snapped his head to him, and looked as he put the puzzles together.
“Oh shit. Deers boyfriend and his brother killed his crew! This makes everything worse.” He thought.
“Fate put a girl, only 16 years old, and had her eliminate 2 of my entire buildings with only her hands and a sword.”
“Deer?” He asked him, a little shocked. He didn’t even know you did other jobs before you worked with him, Maria had said she was new.
“Yes, fate was when I left the hospital as soon as I heard, and left her alone. And then I got a call, saying she had died.”
“Oh. That- that sucks, honestly.”
“That is why it was my wife in the car that night, not me. Fate put my wife in the hospital. A piece of her rib, piercing her heart. Only the most skilled cardiovascular surgeon could save her life. But two nights earlier, this surgeon was poisoned. Fate. Fate again.”
“And then the hornet killed the surgeon! Holy shit.” He thought.
“Don’t wanna sound judgmental, but if you hired the hornet, you had your own kid killed?”
“Oh, yes.”
“Okay.”
“Oh, yes I did. The piece of shit. That night… I told her not to leave. To wait for me. But she promised it was the last time we would ever bail him out of trouble. Well, I suppose she was right. If I had amputated that weakness out of my life years ago, she would still be by my side!”
“Yeah, it helps to process this. I have- I have a good therapist.”
“I loved my wife very much. She taught me a valuable lesson. If you do not control your fate… it will control you.”
“Hm. Hm?” He was a little confused at the saying.
“So I took control. I brought them all here to die. But now there is only one left. Mr. Carver.”
“Whoa. Uh… excuse me?” He said, fucking carver. He thought.
“The man who murdered my wife.”
“Bro-“
“Just open it.” The assassin said.
“Fine!” The other assassins opened the case, and it exploded as Ladybug yelled “Im not carver!”
The assaisains flew back, and they were now on the train.
❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎
The older man threw his hat, and he grabbed the assassins weapon, and sliced his neck with it.
❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎
You held your stance, and held the katana tight, but not too tight. You held it only slightly above your head, and waited for the assassin to come there.
You sliced his neck, he immediately went into the floor and you laughed.
“Can’t believe I remembered that.” You smirked, and Tangerine just looked at you in admiration.
And then Kimura hit the other ones with a heavy bottle, which also worked. Then he grabbed another katana from the other assassin. You let him do the work, putting yours away and looked back to tangerine.
(Bitch we twinninnn 🤭😜)
“I think he’s got it. We should probably go help Lemon now.” You said.
❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎
Ladybug was upside down, he groaned. At least the plan worked. He thought.
❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎❤︎︎
You both ran over to Lemon.
“Oh shit, something’s happening.” He said and the train started to move. He ran through some signs, and the remaining assassins ran onto the train quickly.
Tangerine grabbed his shoulder and looked over it.
“How the hell do you know how to drive a train?” You asked him.
“I don’t!”
“Wha- never mind. You don’t know how to slow this damn thing down?!” You said, and was going to help him when you noticed something.
Ladybug opened the door, and you turned your head to him.
“You’re safe.” You said, relieved.
“I promised, right? And when have I ever broken a promise?”
“A lot of times.” You laughed, and hugged him. He laughed too.
You guys stopped and turned back to Lemon.
“Hey, so far so good. You can stop the train.”
“About that, I took the velocity of the train and divided it by the mass, and I realize that I don’t know how to fuckin’ drive a bullet train!”
“All you talk about is trains! How the hell do you not know?” Tangerine groaned in annoyance.
“Man, Thomas is a metaphor for lie, not how to actually drive- Get down!” He said, as some assassins started to shoot.
Tangerine grabbed you by your waist and you both ducked on the floor, right in front of a seat and in front of ladybug.
The assassin had to reload, and you, Ladybug, and Tangerine were going to get up, before Lemon yelled “I got this! Stop the train!”
“What?!”
Lemon kicked one, and they all fell down like bowling pins.
“Uh- Deer, you know how to read Japanese, right?!” Ladybug looked at you.
“Yeah! But I don’t understand what any of this fucking means! I don’t know shit about trains-“
“I got them, take care of this.” Tangerine said, as another assassin came up behind you guys.
“English, English, English, English, Brakes!” Ladybug scanned through the book. “We’re good! I got it!”
Then, the manual dropped and all the pages went flying. While he was distracted, he noticed another train. They were on the wrong track.
“Hang on!”
“We’re on the wrong track!” You grabbed onto the seat next to you, and you were next to ladybug.
Once that was over, there was fire next to you.
“I’m sorry I shot you!” Lemon apologized to Ladybug.
“Actually, it was like, twice!”
“Apologize later, fucking Do something!” Tangerine said, and knocked out the last assassin.
“Sorry?”
“You show me twice!” But one of the assassins on top of the train made his way down, landing directly on top of you. You groaned as he sat on top of you.
Tangerine kicked him off, and hit him with the fire extinguisher repeatedly.
“I’m sorry for shooting you twice!”
“Thanks man! That shows real growth!” You groaned and held your head, and just laid there in the chaos.
The fire extinguisher was out, and tangerine grabbed your hand and helped you up.
“Fuck! Fuck! Fuck.” Ladybug smashed the buttons with it, and then threw it back, which hit another assassin. He pushed the red button and the door opened, he flew out.
“My head hurts.” You muttered, sitting down.
There was only one assassin left, behind Lemon. Ladybug threw the knife at him.
“Hey, and I’m sorry for almost killing you.” He looked at tangerine, as he sat next to you and held your hand.
Tangerine just gave him a scowl.
Another assassin got up, and lemon dove out of the train.
Tangerine got up, and yelled for him.
“What the fuck!” You said.
You got up, and stood next to Ladybug now.
You saw the emergency brakes, and quickly got down. You worked with the wires, while ladybug watched.
Tangerine watched as well, And it was annoying. You groaned in frustration. “Fuck it.” You muttered, and ripped all the wires out.
The train started to slow down, and ladybug gave you a high five.
But then, tangerine grabbed you as soon as he saw the wall. You guys ran through the wall, and ladybug fell onto you both, all three of you went through the whole train.
Then, it stopped completely in a village. Ladybug and tangerine groaned, and got up.
Tangerine looked around, panicked.
He saw you, eyes closed and on the ground.
“Oh fuck. Fuck, fuck.” He said, and ladybug went next to him.
“She’s breathing. She’s fine, She probably just passed out. Her heads fragile.” He said, with a quiet laugh as he remembered the multiple times you’ve passed out.
Then, he looked back to see the white death.
“Oh, fuck.” He said as he pointed the gun at ladybug.
“About your wife, I had nothing to do with that. It’s a mistake. I’m not carver. I- We only do snatch and grab jobs.” He gestured to himself and you, who laid on the ground.
“The carver! I want the carver! I hired the carver!”
“No, he had a stomach thing, man. We’re just filling in.”
Then, you got up, breathing heavily.
“How’d I survive that?” You muttered and looked down at your broken hand.
Tangerine sighed in relief, kissing your forehead.
“For what it’s worth, carver is a dick.”
“Biggest dick I’ve seen in my life.” You said, and groaned again, hitting your head against the remains of the train.
“The most cunning assassin.. Maybe the laziest.”
The white death pointed the gun to you. It clicked. Tangerine immediately stood in front of you.
“Don’t think your gun works, man.” You laughed as the gun only clicked. Ladybug snickered.
He pulled out another. “Oh come on! Just let it go, I was 16.” You giggled and stared at him.
That gun didn’t work either. Because once he shot it again, it shot him in the face instead.
“Oh.”
You laughed hysterically, tangerine looked back at you, confused.
“Oh…”
“That’s so gross, it’s funny.” You laughed again.
“Man, did you really fall that hard?” Ladybug muttered and got up.
“Tan, you look funny.” You muttered and put your finger on his nose. He scrunched his nose again.
“Tan?” He asked, eyebrows scrunched.
“It’s a nickname, duhhh.”
“Why do I need a nickname for a nickname?”
“You don’t. It’s just cute.” You shrugged your shoulder, he sighed as you stood up next to him.
“Just like you.”
“I’m not cute. Never call me that again.” He said.
“Yes you are.” You said in a baby voice.
“Hey, about this plum, shouldn’t the plum give up all resentment? Like-“ Ladybug asked as they all walked. A machine gun fired, and you all looked over to where it came from.
All five of you stopped.
“Oh my god.”
“This bitch again?” You sighed.
“It’s my luck that delivered my fathers corpse at my feet.”
“The narcissism on this chick. Untreatable.”
“She doesn’t look too good.” You said, staring at her bloodied clothes and face.
“Now I am-“ she held the gun up.
“Okay, wait, wait, wait. What is with this fucked up family? You need some suggested reading, if I may. Surviving borderline personality disorder.”
“What?” She asked.
“It’s true.” You shrugged.
“I highly recommend it.”
“Now I am the white d-“ A truck ran her over. A truck full of tangerines, to be exact.
“What was that? Was that karma?”
“It was Lemon.” Tangerine said, and walked over to the driver.
“Farewell, tentomushi.” The older man said.
You looked back to Ladybug, who looked confused.
You just shrugged.
A car pulled up, and you looked over.
“Heyyy!” You said, waving to Maria.
“Maria?”
“Did you come to rescue us?”
“Did you need rescuing?”
“You came to rescue us.”
“Please don’t make me regret it.”
Lemon and tangerine came over to you guys.
“Who’s this?” Tangerine asked.
“Our handler.” You shrugged.
“Oh.” He muttered.
“The.. twins I’m guessing?” She looked to them.
“Yup. Did you know we made out?” You pointed to you and tangerine.
“I can tell..” she muttered, looking at the hickeys on both your necks. You giggled and tangerines face heated up.
“Tangerine, I forgot to ask… where do you live? Like… just-“ you turned to him.
“London.”
“Oh.” You said. A long distance relationship might be hard.
“But… me and Lemon were planning on moving soon anyways.”

So, she's really gone?
Cw: cursing, angst, spoilers for the titans curse and for @sweetxloverxx 's RP
Even though it was summer, there was a chill in the air. The chill was all Dawn could feel as they stared into the flames.
Haven's hot pink burial shroud had a silver scythe embroidered on it, for her adoptive father. Now all that was left were the ashes floating up into the sky.
Dawn twisted the pink friendship bracelet tied around their wrist as they looked up; watching the ashes float up to the stars. Her eyes were red even though she hadn't cried. He tried her best to not break down in front of everyone. They needed them to be strong. Dawn was one of the oldest campers. People looked up to them. She wouldn't dare let them see her cry.
They left the bonfire and sat alone on half-blood hill. Gazing up at the stars. They began to laugh. A hollow laugh. One with no humor behind it.
"Even when I try to stay away from them, they still get hurt. Right, Zoe?" They said, their voice breaking as they stared at the constellation of the Huntress.
They looked down at their shaking hands as their vision started to blur. The tears began to fall, there was no stopping them now. Her mascara ran down her face as her freckles began to glow.
They looked like a firefly caught in a rainstorm.
Their breathing was ragged, just gasping for air between sobs.
"I tried so hard. I tried to keep her safe. I got too close like I always do. And when she needed me most, I wasn't there." Her voice was small and weak, like a leaf trembling in a hurricane.
"I'm sorry, fuck, I'm so sorry! Haven..I" She looked up, he could see the smoke from Haven's fire from here. Swirling and dancing in the starlight.
"I'm sorry I wasn't there for you, Zoe. I'm sorry for all the things I said. I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry..." his words quickly became sobs as she gazed at Zoe's constellation.
A red handprint formed on Zoe's face as Dawn looked at her with fire in their eyes.
"How dare you! Rebecca what is the matter with you!"
"THAT'S NOT MY NAME!" Dawn roared at the girl who used to be their best friend.
"Fine! Dawn, I did not know that you had become so unreasonable! I simply asked if you wanted your jacket back." Zoe said while rubbing the bruise on her cheek.
"WHAT DO YOU THINK BITCH! WHY WOULD I WANT THAT?!" Dawn gestured to the silver hoodie that was covered in dried blood.
"It belongs to you. You should have it back. I no longer want it to remind me of the incident." Zoe said 'incident' like it was a vile, disgusting word.
Dawn snatched the hoodie out of Zoe's hands, "FINE! I'LL TAKE IT!! HAVE FUN ON YOUR STUPID QUEST TO SAVE LADY ARTEMIS!"
"I doubt it will be fun, but thank you for the well wishes," Zoe said with venom behind each word.
"They were anything but well wishes. I hope you don't come back from this quest at all!" Dawn said.
The memory of their last interaction hit Dawn like a truck. She could feel the anger and regret flowing through their veins. Haven's death had made the old memories resurface again.
"I'm so sorry, Zoe. I-I didn't mean it. I'm sorry" They pulled their knees into their chest and wept.
"Haven, I'm so sorry I couldn't save you. I'm so so sorry." Their tears fell onto the pink friendship bracelet, now the only thing they had left of Haven.

i almost cried from happiness when I found you
Jonathan Byers with a reader with ADHD and anxiety
But not the crying kind
Nerves are always fried, just stressed
knee bounces
Hands are always doing something, tracing patterns, playing with rings,
Doesn't mind crowds but some people give her random anxiety
Isn't to worried about school, but is worried about Jonathan, anxiety for loved ones
I need him not trying to fix her. Trying to appreciate her for who she is
Here you go :)
"Your string of lights is still bright to me"
Jonathan Byers x Adhd!Anxious!Fem Reader [she/her pronouns used]
{TW/CW}- Talks of adhd, fidgeting, food is mentioned, reader doesn’t eat breakfast bc of executive dysfunction, but jon does have her eat, but the actual action of eating isnt discussed, sweet jonathan byers, I love him your honor, mentions him trying to ‘help’ her but it's not fixing her, reader has issues with body temperature, like she gets hot flashes bc of overthinking and stuff, jon calls reader honey once
{Authors note}- Tbh, i kinda hate this fic, but I love jon and this reader. so please, if you have any specific scenarios or prompts you want to see with them, send me an ask with it. i want to write for them more! GIF creds to the owner, title creds to taylor swift
{Word count}- 1,101. It's a short one today babes
There was no one in this world that you loved more than Jonathan Byers. He meant everything to you. He accepted you for who you were, and that mattered more to you than anything else.
You can remember clearly how it felt when he realized there was something off about you. You can remember how you were certain he would leave you. You remember telling him about your ADHD and being scared that he would think differently of you. You remember describing what it was like to live the way you live, with feeling nervous and fidgety for no apparent reason. You thought you were too much for him, you had too many things wrong with you.
And you can remember the indescribable peace you felt when he held your hands and told you he loved you. Even with your faults, though he would never see them as such. It was all you. He promised himself that he would never let you think less of yourself for things you couldn’t control.
That’s not to say it was easy, because it wasn’t. It still isn’t. But Jonathan’s effort to help will always have you falling for him all over again. He spends his time watching and noticing, picking up on ways he can help you.
Sometimes it’s small things, one’s that you don’t even pick up on. He’ll buy you new rings and bracelets, ones with beads and charms that you can fidget with. He’ll place rubber pieces to the ends of your pencils for you to chew on to keep your pretty little nails intact. He rubs his hand along your back when bouncing your knee, keeping you calm but never making you stay still. He lets you run your fingers through his hair when you need to do something with your hands. He keeps the temperature cooler when he knows you’re coming over, afraid you’ll overthink and overheat.
Sometimes it’s bigger things, things that make you feel like a burden. He’ll stay over at your place when you can’t fall asleep, or drive you around until your eyes flutter closed. He’ll leave with you if you get overwhelmed, anytime and anywhere. He always asks you before inviting someone else to hang out with yall, you’re always his first priority. He would shut someone up immediately if they said anything bad about you or the way you were acting.
You had only told a few of your friends. You tended to avoid the subject, you didn’t like the way people would view you differently or the way they would treat you. You didn’t want to hear about how you should ‘take a deep breath’ or ‘just sit still’. Many people just didn’t understand, but Jonathan did.
Today was a particularly bad day. You woke up and the temperature was too hot in your room. When you wake up warm, your day is wrong, that’s how it works. You don’t know why and you always try to get past it, but your bad day usually continues to persist.
You didn’t want to brush your teeth. You weren’t too tired, or too lazy, you just felt like you couldn’t. You saw the toothbrush, and you saw the toothpaste, and you couldn’t. So, you went to your kitchen to grab something for breakfast, maybe something to kickstart your day, but nothing seemed appealing.
Finally, you simply settled in your bed. You laid down and stared at your ceiling while you let your thoughts run freely. You heard the phone ring but you couldn’t get up to get it. You couldn’t do anything but stare and think and run your hands along your blankets. You weren’t aware of how much time had passed before you heard a small knock at your door.
“Come in”
The door creaked slightly and you heard a familiar set of footsteps approach you.
“Bad day sweetheart?” Jonathan asked as he sat down on your bed, weighing down the left side and causing you to roll a little bit.
You laughed as you sat up and motioned for Jonathan to lie down. He laid back against your lap, your hands soon finding their way to his hair.
“I’m fine.”
Even with his face being upside down for you, you could tell he didn’t believe you. He hummed before he responded,
“You sure? You didn’t answer my call and you didn’t eat breakfast.”
“How do you even know that?”
“When you eat breakfast, you have a snack right after, or chew gum. You have to keep chewing.” He replied casually, as though he didn’t just call out a specific detail a normal person would never take notice of.
It scared you a bit, and yet it didn’t surprise you at all. He always noticed things that you thought people would try to ignore. He never once judged you or tried to ‘save’ you, he only asked how he could help, and sometimes he knew you better than you knew yourself.
You were quiet while you thought, though your hands were still brushing through the boy's hair. You sighed before you spoke, “Don’t you ever get tired of me?”
Jonathan sat up at that and turned to face you, “Why would you think that?” His hands found yours before you could bring your nails to your mouth.
“I just, I don’t know, I’m a very tiring person I guess. It wouldn’t hurt my feelings if you ever thought I was too much.” It most certainly would hurt your feelings, but you wouldn’t say that.
He took in a breath, you could see in his eyes he was a little hurt.
Of course, you thought, he is tired of me. I gave him an out and he’s going to take it.
“Oh honey,” here it is, “I could never get tired of you.”
Oh
“Nothing you do is ‘too much’. You mean everything to me, I could never think of you like that.”
It’s moments like this that make you wonder how you were so lucky as to have Jonathan in your life. You don’t say anything back, you just allow his words to fill your mind. You take a moment to believe them. Even if you don’t feel that way about yourself, you know he wouldn’t lie to you.
Jonathan seems to know that that’s all you needed to hear. He also knows he’ll have to tell you again, and again, and again, but he doesn’t mind. He’ll tell you forever if you needed him to.
He stands up and holds out his hand, “Come on, let’s go get something to eat mkay?”

A Jewel Beneath The Moonlight [Rewrite]
@today-in-fic | ao3
Tumblr media
Summary: For Mulder, a wealthy English-bred socialite who’s had everything given to him since birth, the Titanic is shipping him off to a prison, a life he no longer wishes for or wants. For Scully, an Irish stranger from the lower class, it offers a new life, a future she can truly envision in America. What if the universe put them on the same path to achieve those dreams at the cost of life?
Chapter Ten.
The ship is sinking.
The water climbing its way up now, people will be making their way to the top deck, people will be running by this room.
But Scully has yet to hear a thing. No one’s came down this corridor. What’s even along this corridor aside from this office and maybe a few storage closets?
She glances outside the porthole to water. Scully could see out of this earlier, just along the water’s surface.
This is bad.
In one last hopeless plea that someone is near enough to hear her, she bangs the chain against the pipe, screaming as loud as she can.
“Can someone help me!”
Still, there’s not a soul around.
And where is Mulder?
She pictures him safe on a lifeboat with his family, sailing away from any danger that could befall him. Scully shakes the bitter image away. She has to focus on herself before this gets very bad.
She tries everything in that moment; scrunching her hand up to see if they’ll fit through the holes, hanging her weight off the chain to see if it’ll break, but the chain is solid metal, the bracelets made well enough that nobody but a magician could get out of them. And Scully is no magician.
She slumps against the pipe, wrists aching, hands hurting.
“This is bad,” she says, her eyes closing in defeat.
Her heart freezes when she hears the faint sound of water sloshing. Eyes opening quicker than they closed, she watches the water begin to creep in from beneath the door.
“Fuck!” she cries, immediately moving her arms to the top of the pipe and beginning to climb as more water slips in.
Despite the little pressure the water comes rushing in. In minutes everything this room, Scully included, will be swimming.
In a desperate attempt, Scully tries breaking the cuffs again, beating them against the pipe.
The water slowly begins to rise, dislodging the furniture from its place in the room. She has five minutes at most to come up with a plan.
“Come on…come on…” she repeats as a mantra, the banging of metal, her cries, and the sound of water the only noise to be heard throughout the corridor.
Until.
“Scully! Scully!”
At first she’s unsure if she’s heard it right, until it comes again.
There’s only one person in the entirety of Titanic to call her by her last name.
“Mulder!”
The water now approaching her knees, Scully climbs onto the table.
“…Scully!”
“Mulder!” she shouts back in response. “Mulder, I’m in here!”
Her eyes stay fixed on the door that’s just partially open, praying the incoming water keeps it that way.
“Scully…” she hears Mulder call again but it sounds further away.
“Mulder, I need you to follow my voice!” she calls back, trying to guide him to her. “Just follow my voice and keep shouting!”
“Scully!”
It was sounding nearer again.
“Keep moving forward, Mulder. There’s an open door, I’m in here!”
She sits on the desk now, floating above the water that still continues to rise. As she looks around for something Mulder can use to break the handcuffs, it’s the first time she notices the slight tilt in the room. If her theory is correct, the front of the ship will go down first. They need to get to the back.
“Scully!”
Mulder stands in the doorway, as real as this sinking is, and Scully finally allows the hope for survival to return. Relief floods through her as her body finally relaxes.
“Mulder…”
He pushes various bits of furniture out of the way, coming to a stop in front of her.
Instantly she feels his lips descend onto hers. Scully melts into the kiss, comforted by the fact that she now isn’t alone in this watery hell.
She lets them kiss for a bit longer before allowing reality to set back in.
They pull away, foreheads falling against each other. Scully allows herself this moment to just draw strength from Mulder, to finally understand that she’s no longer alone, that for now it’s the two of them.
She briefly lets go of the fear.
“I’m sorry I didn’t believe you. I should of,” Mulder whispers and Scully smiles slightly, shaking her head.
“Don’t worry about that now.” She lifts her head up, shaking her still handcuffed hands. “You need to find a key or something.”
The water is a lot deeper now, almost up to Mulder’s chest. Scully doesn’t even want to think of where it’ll come up for her.
“A key, right.” Mulder moves away from her, headed towards the key cabinet and throwing open the doors. “What colour was it?”
“Brass, I think.”
“Brass…brass…There’s no brass key!”
The panic begins to set in again. Her eyes dart about the room, looking for anything that can be used to break the cuffs. She spins around, losing the buoyancy of the table in her rush to find something, yelping as the cold water brushes against her leg as she fights not to fall in.
Mulder is there, throwing his hand out towards her and steading the table, Scully regains her balance.
Slower this time, Scully continues to look around the room. As she scans past the door, something red catches her eye.
An axe.
“There!” she shouts, pointing towards the door. “The axe.” Mulder follows her point, seeing what she sees then quickly turns back to her.
“Are you sure?” he asks.
The room continues to fill, getting deeper and deeper as time is wasted.
“Yes!” Scully all but cries. “Go!”
Her eyes do not move from Mulder as he paddles his way out of the room, breaking the glass with his elbow and yanking the axe from its case. He re-enters, axe in hand and Scully prepares herself, spreads her arms as much as she can with what little leeway the chain gives her.
“Go on,” she encourages, biting down the panic and nerves. If this goes wrong, this is going to hurt.
Mulder looks straight into her eyes, asking, “You trust me?”
For some insane reason she does, she really does. “Yes, I trust you.”
He nods, poises the axe in the air and swings. At the last second Scully shuts her eyes, preparing herself for the pain and the blood.
The axe collides with the chain, breaking the metal in half and lodging itself within the pipe.
Scully can’t believe it, he did it. She opens her eyes, catches Mulder’s equally surprised expression. Now free, she pulls him into her, hugging and thanking him over and over again. His arms fold around her, holding her tight against him.
“We need to go,” he says pulling away.
He’s right, they don’t have long and they have four decks to climb up before they can get on a lifeboat.
Mulder helps her down into the water and Scully has never felt cold like it- it burns her nerves, stabbing every place imaginable.
“Shit!” she cries, how the hell has Mulder been standing in this for so long?
“I know, come on.” He grabs onto her hand and Scully notices she can’t touch the floor without going under. She tries to remain calm, to not let that panic overwhelm her. Just keep hold of Mulder and once they are off E-Deck they should be safe.
Grasping hold of Mulder’s hand, Scully half swims-half paddles her way out of the office.
“Shit, the exits blocked,” she hears Mulder say above the torrent of water bursting through the door at the end of the corridor. She sees it too, a wave of pressurised water that would kill them alone.
The lights flicker above, the electricity struggling to stay one against the onslaught of ice-cold water, combined with the creaking as Titanic struggles to withstand the added weight, it makes for an incredibly eerie setting.
“Come on, there’s got to be another way out,” Scully shouts above the waves. She takes the lead, heading in the opposite direction and into the darkness ahead.
It’s a labyrinth. A maze of cabins and storage rooms. Whoever designed the Titanic never intended for it to be an easy escape.
Scully sighs in frustration at yet another dead end and to make matters worse they were still on E-Deck.
“This is stupid!” she cries, kicking the door and sighing once more in frustration.
“You hear that?” Mulder asks.
Scully stops huffing and puffing for a moment to listen.
“This way. Go down there and to your left, now…Stop running! You’re not allowed to run down the corridors! This way, Miss.”
A smile begins spreading across Scully’s face at the sound of another person’s voice. She moves towards the door, pressing her ear against it.
“There’s a corridor on the other side of this door,” she says and Mulder nods.
Still, there is one more issue.
“So how do we get through it?”
Mulder smiles, “I just broke metal, woods gonna be no issue for me.”
Scully watches as Mulder repeatedly slams his shoulder against the wooden door.
“That’s White Starline Property,” she says, a smirk across her face. There’s no humour in it really.
“Don’t you start.”
It takes a few more slams of the shoulder, Scully helping out towards the end but eventually the wood snaps and they both fall through to the other corridor.
Briskly, they start speed-walking away from the damage to  an exit. Down the corridor and to the left, as the man said.
“Oi!” A voice behind them shouts, different to the one earlier. “That’s White Starline Property, you’ll have to pay for that, you know.” It was funnier when Scully said it.
Ever in sync, Mulder and Scully spin at the same time, both huffing out an annoyed Shut up! to the boy-steward. They don’t wait to gauge the boy’s reaction before they’re turning the corridor to…
A mob of third class passengers.
“We just want a chance, for god’s sake, let us through!” an Irish man shouts at the top of his lungs. He and a few others occupy the very front of the rally, many of the other passengers egging them on as they shout at the stewards on the other side of the gate.
The gates are locked, Scully realises.
“Count on the Irish to start a riot,” Mulder jokes though his worry at their current situation sweeps through as he looks around for another way out.
“I think this time it’s justified,” says Scully, also looking for another way free. In the corner stands a mother and her two children. The boy tugs against his mother’s coat.
Scully doesn’t hear what the lad asks but hears the mother response.
“Soon. There just getting the first class people onto the boats, and then they’ll be starting with us.”
Scully’s heart breaks in two at the false hope. She wonders what one would say in this situation, what she would say if she had children. Lie like this woman has or tell the truth? That they’re not getting out any time soon.
Her attention is diverted when she hears a familiar voice shout through the crowd.
“Aye, you just want to save the first class bastards, forget about the poor stuck at the bottom, you slimy gits!”
Relief floods through her at the sound of Charlie’s voice. He’s alive.
For now.
She watches the red-headed boy push away from the gate and force his way through the crowd. Defeated and hopeless, Scully reaches out to him.
“Charlie!”
Immediately, the boy perks up at the sound of his voice. He spies her instantly, running the last couple of steps towards them.
“Dana.” He collapses into her embrace instantly, no longer needing to be a leader and can just be the younger brother sourcing comfort from his older sister in a time of panic.
“It’s no use,” Charlie says against her. “There not letting anyone through.”
Still hugging her brother, Scully looks anxiously towards Mulder. Reading her request just simply through her look, Mulder jostles his way through the people. Scully ends her embrace, brushing past Charlie to follow Mulder up the stairs.
“You have to wait your turn,” one of the stewards say. “They’re not ready for you to board yet.”
“You have to let us through,” Mulder says, speaking over them. “These people deserve a chance to live.”
“You have to wait your turn, they’re not ready for you yet.”
“Jesus Christ, man!” Scully speaks up, angered by the handling of this situation. “There’s women and children down here!”
But the steward refuses to deviate from his script. His constant condescending voice riles Scully. She grasps her fingers around the gate’s bars and furiously shakes them, making her anger known to the stewards and people around them. She doesn’t even bother to listen to their Now stop that, or we won’t let you through at all response before she’s launching herself down the stairs.
“I told you it was hopeless,” says Charlie.
Scully wasn’t prepared to die by being handcuffed to a pipe, and she isn’t prepared to die stuck behind a gate. Adrenaline and anger surging through her, she looks around for some implement to use to break all the steward’s faces when she finds something better.
“Charlie, help me with this bench,” she instructs, bending to grasp the bench.
“You canna be serious, Dana?” Charlie says, his eyes wide with shock at his sister’s irrationalism.
“Would you rather drown?”
Charlie does as he’s told, gaining a hold on the bench. A few others gather around them, including the first Irish man to shout before, realising what they are planning to do and all pitch in to help, grabbing the middle.
“Ready,” says Scully. “One…two…three…” Together, the four of them rip the bench from the floor. Using all her strength, Scully positions the bench to her chest, ready to ram it against the gate.
The stewards realise what they’re doing, her eyes widening with shock as the insistent stewards yells at them to stop and put that bench down. They ignore him, and all together bash the bench against the gate as the stewards make a run for it. People cheer them on, Mulder keeps the path clear as they ram the bench into the gate twice more before the flimsy metal snaps and a hole is created.
They begin jumping through. Mulder helps Scully over and they run through D-Deck. They run for their lives.

Career day at school when lucie and lio are young
The tenderness of this… 😩
“Nico! Timo! Nico! Timo!” The cheers of 30+ elementary school kids has Nico and Timo chuckling at the front of the room. Lio is sitting cross legged right at the front of the class, staring dreamily at his dad next to his uncle. He is the coolest kid in school right now and he loves the attention. Lucie sits silently next to him and flicks at his leg.
“This is dumb.” She grumbles to him in Swiss German so their classmates don’t know.
“No?” He questions in response.
“Yeah, I don’t wanna share my dad.”
Lucie is really bothered by the attention her dad gets, even out in public. It’s a constant source of irritation for her and she usually cries in frustration after fan interactions. She already has to share her dad so much, why does she have to do it in school now? She didn’t even tell her dad about this stupid day. Nico found out about career day from Timo and insisted it would be double the fun if he came with. So here Lucie is, sitting in the front row with Lio who is so excited about the attention she could puke.
“How much money do you make?” A kid shouts out at Nico who raises his eyebrows in surprise.
“Enough to buy you all pizza.” He jokes pointing to where the pies are being brought in to the back of the classroom. His eyes drift down to Lucie, smile faltering a bit at her obvious contempt.
“Okay, one more question, then lunch!” The teacher calls out. Lucie picks at the pink fingernail polish on her nails.
“You gonna ask it?” Lio whispers to her.
“No.” She shakes her head, eyes lowered. Why did she tell Lio about her plan? This is the worst.
“Hey Luc, do you have a question for me?” Nico asks. Her cheeks burn. Did he hear her whisper to Lio on the way to school this morning? The class falls quiet, eyes pinned to Lucie as she shakes her head no at her dad. Nico waits patiently for her, glancing at Lio when he gives her a nudge.
“What is your favorite part of home games?” Lio asks for her when it becomes clear that Lucie won’t do it. Timo smiles at his son, loving his courage and protectiveness.
“My favorite part of home games is seeing my daughters at warm ups. Lucie and I have a fun tradition of sharing fist bumps through the camera hole. I would be really sad if I didn’t get to spend those few seconds with her before games. It makes me play better. She was kind enough to make me a bracelet that I can wear when I’m on the road so she is always with me.” Lucie has fat tears in her eyes, struggling to keep her lip from wobbling as they fall to the carpet between her ankles.
“Okay! That’s all. Say thank you to Nico and Timo!” The class screams a collective, energetic thank you. “And thank you Lucie and Lio for sharing your fathers with us.” Another thank you that has Lucie rubbing at her eyes with her little fingers.
Nico comes to his daughter, crouching down by her on one knee. He reaches out, rubbing at her back in encouragement. She lifts her head, wrapping her tiny arms around his big shoulders and burrowing into him.
All the other kids run around the room- looking for toys or pizza or rushing to uncle Timo for an autographed picture. But only Lucie gets Nico for a whole two minutes straight of hugs. Nico holds her the entire time he signs shirts and jerseys and pictures, never letting his baby go so she knows he is really only here for her.

Chapter Theme | Previous | Masterlist | Next
You sat at the police station with a small paper cup in your hands, gazing at the water within. Your fingers felt numb even against the warmth seeping through the paper. Chewing your lip, you pulled dead skin from it. Your panicked eyes cried themselves dry.
Nancy left you some time ago, to investigate further and to go with the police, she wanted to help as much as she could, maybe they needed more information, she also to be there when they brought the news to Fred's parents.
Your eyelids fluttering as your thoughts took you back and forth between two terrible conclusions. "Someone has him" and "he's already gone."
"Eddie would have come to me by now, he would have." Your mind reels. "Me and my wanting to fix things, stupid quater-life crisis," you pull too hard on the dead skin on your lip, ripping up a healthy layer and tasting the blood in your mouth, "and I took it out on Eddie, I freaked him out, It ended everything we had now he - my chance to ever fix it or tell i'm I'm sorry for being a basketcase might be gone."
The door to the police station swung open as Wayne rushed in, tired eyes shinning with concern. "Where is she/he?" He asked, his eyes falling on Flo.
Flo pointed in your direction, she'd given you water and tried her best to make you comfortable. But nothing helped the state you were in.
Wayne's steps slow as he calmly takes a seat next to you. "Hey kiddo," He said. You sucked in your lips and shook your head, turning to look at him. " Let's get you home." said Wayne, as he helped you to your feet.
"They haven't questioned her/him yet," Flo says.
"Look at 'em," Wayne said, "does she/he look like hours of interrogation is a good idea?" He asked. Flo fell silent and sighed, "I'll let Powell know you came bye and got her/him." He said. "Thanks." Wayne said, walking you out of the station.
The ride back to your apartment was a quiet one.
Wayne rolled out his foldout bed, and you locked yourself away in your room. On hands and knees, you dig around under your bed, pulling out articles of clothing and chucking them across the floor. Reaching for a box.
Pulling the box out from under the bed and onto your lap, you sniffle and rummage through it. Old doodles drawn on cigarette pack foil and gum wrappers, from another phase Eddie went through of 'cute things' during your third year together. "Eddie, this is trash," you remember telling him.
"And now we're recycling, babe. Saving the earth and being cute as hell while doing it. Look, it's you in my clothes." You could almost hear his reply as if he'd been beside you again, showing you that miniscule drawing.
You give a sniffle, and pull out a short brown braid.
"Eddie, wh-what is this?"
"I cut off some of my hair. It's easy to keep track of this way and carry around."
"Y-you want to carry around, Eddie there is hair on your head!"
"It's not for me, it's for you, babe. I hear it's lucky...in some places to gift a lock of hair to your lover."
You chuckle at the memory, he'd gotten the idea after being in trouble for being late for your date, "why're you so good at making sure I'm not mad at you?" you question, gazing down at the braided lock.
Old bandanas, a heart shaped rock he'd gotten stuck in his shoe, handmade valentines cards, a friendship bracelet from middle school.
"There you are." you whisper with a smile, holding up a tape. "Because I won't say it right, please play this and listen closely." was scrawled in tiny writing across a strip of packing tap. Popping it in the stereo, it brought back the memory in a flood.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spring of 1982
Eddie opened the front door, you were greeted by a wide smile as he leaned against the doorway. "You're late." He hummed, "A wizard is never late, she/he arrives precisely when she/he means to." You said.
"Yeah, only I'm the wizard, and you're the knight." Eddie pointed out. You roll your eyes, "last campaign I was the wizard." You said as he let you inside. Sniffing the air, you laugh, "You bathed in that fragrance didn't you?" You asked him in a small laugh.
Eddie rubbed the back of his neck, "um...the thing broke on it and," He stammered. It was the scent you said you liked after sitting close to Keven Saunders in 3rd period, and Eddie was hoping for some brownie points with his endeavor today. Too bad he didn't know how Cologne worked.
Eddie cleared his throat and lead you to his bedroom, "where's Wayne? It's his off day, isn't it?" You asked. "Uuuuhhhh, yeah, he um...had things to do....you know," Eddie lulled as he sat at the edge of his bed.
You took his desk chair, "huh, damn all that stuff getting in the way of relaxation. Poor Uncle." You say. Eddie riffled with something in his vest pocket.
"Why are you being so weird?" You asked him cautiously.
"I just..." Eddie sighed, "alright, this isn't working." he muttered. His eyes flickered into your gaze as Eddie got to his feet, taking both your hands he guided you to sit in his place on the bed. You watch in confusion while Eddie goes to his stereo and pops in a tape from his pocket.
It clicks in place, Eddie's shoulders rise and fall as he takes a deep breath in and out.
"Ok, I had a feeling I wouldn't be able to tell you this, or explain it so - I made you something." Eddie explained slowly, he takes a seat next to you, one leg tucked under him as the other dangled off the edge. The seriousness in his eyes ripped the butterflies in your stomach from their safe cocoons.
"You can talk to be about anything. You know that." You remind him. Eddie smiles at you, "this is harder, scary, I guess. Just, please listen." he said. You give a nod, heart beating fast, you didn't know what you expected.
"Yeah so um...." Eddie's voice spoke on the tape. "Hand picked with love, enjoy?" it said with a question, it causes you to giggle, and Eddie fights off blushing.
"For many hours and days that pass ever soon, the tides have caused the flame to dim. At last the arm is straight, the hand to the loom, Is this to end or just begin?"
Your breath got caught in your throat, and your jaw clenched. Your heart is hammering away like a handyman. You find it's impossible to look at Eddie, though he sits nervously, wringing his hands. He knows you knew this song.
"All of my love, all of my love. All of my love to you, oh"
Your frozen eyes trapped to the stereo. "Um, the other songs...they aren't shit I listen to, but..." Eddie muttered as the song came to an end.
"I need you to love me, I need you today. Give to me your leather take from me my lace"
Spoke the next song.
"But just between you and me, baby I know our love will be"
"Oh you make my world, a summer day. Are you just a dream to fade away?"
"I say, I want you to try to understand. That I, I want to be your lovin' man, babe"
You exhale and close your eyes, each of the following three songs dragging a smile clutched between the legs of the butterflies fluttering in your stomach.
"It's getting hotter, it's a burning love, and I just can't seem to get enough"
You hopped up and turned the volume down before your chest burst open. Eddie bit his lip behind you. "so..." he hummed. "s-say something?" He murmured.
You turned to face him, Eddie looked down at his hand plucking at the frayed string of his ripped jeans, twirling his hair around his finger.
Silently walking towards him, your hands slip under Eddie's chin, and tilting your head, you bring him into a timid kiss. Eddie's hands hold your arms as he leans in. "You know the tape is nice but-"
"I've liked you, I've always like you, and now I'm pretty sure I love you. Because you're ok with all my....me. Your you makes my me more and..."
You giggled as he rambled in a daze. "I told you I'd mess up the words." he muttered.
"No, no, it's perfect. Keep going." you say.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The memory fades, and you're left alone in your room, silently crying to a mix of music that both is and isn't your flavor. Crushed under the weight of the bad thoughts, the unasked for mental pictures of Eddie, his bones twisted like a broken pretzel at the bottom of the bag.
Wayne lingered on the other side of the door for a moment, your sniffles slipping past the quieter places within the songs. He remembered the day Eddie pieced that tape together.
Knocking with the knuckle of his finger, Wayne made his presence known. "You ok in there, kid?" He asked.
Getting up, you trudge to the door and open in, "no." you admit. "What if what happened to Fred and Chrissy-"
"Neither of us is gon' think about that. Not right now." Wayne stated firmly. "Not until they've got proof. Same as their thoughts that Eddie did it. Nothing happened until they prove it to us. Alright?" Wayne asked.
You wipe your eyes, and nodd. "Right, right, I'm sorry." You said. " Don't be, I had my moment too." Wayne sighed. "Try and get some sleep, you'll have to deal with them asking questions at some point." He said.
Tumblr media
"Not that I don't feel bad about this, but I really should be getting home." Robin said. They'd spent hours debriefing Eddie about the upside down, Demogorons, Demodogs, and the gate. Though there was still much to tell, mainly Eleven, the lab, the Russians, and what really happened last summer.
"You weren't kidding when you said it would be hard to take, but after tonight... I'd believe grass is naturally neon pink." Eddie muttered.
"Don't feel bad, I get it." He added, looking over the four sleepy faces lingering in the boathouse with him. "And you know...thanks, man." Eddie said, turning to Dustin.
"Of course." Dustin said, a small smile then came to his face, "I'll be sure to call Y/n and tell her/him-"
Eddie pointed to Dustin, "no," Eddie said with a frown, "you don't tell her/him anything." He said quickly.
"Why not?" Dustin asked, "She/he's losing their mind over everything that's going on."
Eddie's gaze hardened, "because if you guys are right, I don't want Y/n in this shit. Fjora wasn't around when the party fought Vecna in the final battle, and took a hit that nearly killed her/him when that party fought him the first time. If we're dealing with our own personal real life Vecna, I don't Y/n there either." Eddie said.
"She/he's a fighter, but always get roughed up somewhere along the way." Eddie sighed.
"You can't protect me this time." he thought.
"But she/he was crying on the phone, that's bullshit." Steve said. "It's not, you didn't see what this thing did to Chrissy." Eddie protested sharply, he then rubbed his eyes and forehead. "S-she/H-he was crying?" he asked softly, stammering.
"Yeah." Dustin said.
Eddie closed his eyes, "if you call her/him, Y/n will be down here somehow in no time flat. and while that would be pretty damn great. It's the worst idea." Eddie tried to convince himself in his thoughts. He sighed, "no," Eddie looked between Dustin and Steve, "still don't tell her/him, not a word from anyone." He said.
"Fine, we're going to head out, is there anything you need?" asked Dustin, "We'll come back as early as we can." Max jumped in. Eddie fumbled with the note between his fingers. "They've already seen you cry, what's a little more embarrassment." Eddie thought.
"Yeah, Yardley, and if you can actually get in my house. There's a-" Eddie cleared his throat, a rose hue taking over his cheeks in the dim light. "This little stuffed frog, about," He held out his hands to measure, "this big, has an ugly little knitted top hat..." Eddie said.
Steve laughed, "what, like Michigan J. Frog?" He asked.
Eddie looked up at him, "who else?" He asked Steve.
"So soap and Michigan J. Frog knock off. Right." Robin said making a mental note. "You don't move, don't stick your head out of anywhere, we'll be back." Dustin warned Eddie.
"It might be my first rodeo, but I'm not that stupid, Henderson." Eddie said. "I'm just saying, sometimes, when in the fire, you don't think straight." said Dustin.
"Yeah, like peeing in an elevator shaft and then trying to hide when now the room clearly smells like-"
Steve cleared his throat, "We don't need to rehash that, Robin." he said, shaking his head.
"I mean, if you have to go..." Eddie said. "See." Steve called.
"From the top, though?" Robin asked. "Ew, god wait that's different, that means it like...ran down." Eddie said.
Max and Dustin watched the three in silence. "Sorry to break this...fascinating conversation. But we still need to be going." Max said. Dustin shook his head, "what's wrong with you." He asked. Eddie rose his head, "not you." Dustin groaned. "Hello, ambushed and assaulted with a busted bottle," Steve said.
"He does have a reason, that's pretty jarring." Robin chimed.
"Yeah, sorry about that too." Eddie muttered.
"Alright, everybody but Eddie, out!" Dustin called out as he turned to Eddie, "you-"
Eddie nodded his head, "stay here, I know."
Eddie watched the little group leave out the boathouse doors, and once they closed he released a long breath. "Someone believes you," He thought, "but holy shit." Eddie sighed. Eddie could picture your face in his head, "hopefully I can get back soon." he murmured.
Tumblr media
Eddie didn't get much sleep, he'd refused to venture back into the house just yet either. It didn't help that his dreams were plagued with nightmares. Visions of anyone and everyone that mattered to him, sharing Chrissy's fate, and eventually him too.
He isn't the only one.
Rolling out of bed, you hit the floor screaming. Motley has puffed up in the corner of your room a ball of spiked fur. He does not appreciate you waking him up in such a manner.
"It's a dream." You gasp, "shit." Your eyes fix to the popcorn ceiling, "Wayne says, we don't know until something is proven." You tell yourself, "so if the big pink ball of zombie spaghetti could please stop ruining my sleep with horrible scenes," you thought getting up to your feet, "that would be nice." you sighed.
Looking at your clock, you realize that Wayne most likely headed out already. He needed the rest, having late shifts at the plant. However, there was little of that to go around for the man who lived with the police's main suspect.
You glare at the carpet, "no doubt I'll be seeing Callahan and Powell again as well." You thought. "Let's just get dressed, one step at a time, Y/n" you told yourself trying to motivate your mind for the day it would have to face.
A hot shower can fix a lot, but nothing shocks your system into being alert like freezing cold water rinsing away the haze of a night of tortured sleep.
Dressed, you sit before the TV watching the news. "So they're not mentioning names yet, but have given up that they have a suspect in mind." you sigh, "small favors I guess."
"Not that it'll stop Jason or change his mind." you thought.
A knock came to your door.
The house was a mess, between Wayne's duffles bags, the floor pillow, and an unmade rollout bed. You try not to think about the state of your kitchen as you gorged on every junk food item you owned for breakfast.
Nonetheless, you open the door.
"Nancy?"
She stood at your door, peering at you with eyes that had seen about as much sleep as your own. "Yeah, hi. um, the police are investigating the area where you found Fred this morning. Powell wants to ask us some more questions, and I figured maybe you needed a ride." Nancy explained, holding up her car keys.
"It also seemed like it would be better not to hearing it from them that you needed to go back to that place in the road, only to be grilled like patty and possibly annoyed." she added.
You crack a smile. "Starting to remember why we were almost friends?" Nancy asked, offering a smile herself.
"Maybe," you hum, "thanks," you grab your house keys hanging on the wall and follow Nancy out, locking up.
Tumblr media
Eddie looked between Robin, Dustin and Steve; he hadn't been this level of lost since he learned about 'lady parts' in sex education, at least that was fun for a while.
"- mine was more human-flesh based and theirs was more, smoke-related. But, bottom line - collectively, I think we've got this." Robin rambled.
"We usually have this girl with supper powers, but those kinda went away so uh, -"
"We're technically more in an um...."
"a kind of a..."
Max listened to Robin and Steve struggle to find words as they tried their best to ease Eddie's mind as his expression mimicked that of a cat who'd unexpectably had water dumped onto it.
"Brainstorming phase." Max said, leaving Robin and Steve looking relieved.
"Ther-there's nothing to worry about, or anything." Dustin said. Eddie raised his brows, "then why is everyone falling over their words." Eddie thought, box of honeycombs hugged to his chest. Behind it, a frog peering over the opening with a fixed smile. It wasn't his frog, he'd gotten the bad news of his trailer being locked down, but the group pulled together to buy him a little frog they'd found in the thrift store.
Sirens echoed loudly, tearing down the nearbye road. "Shit" Eddie whispered. "get under the tarp." Robin urged as the little group headed for the windows.
Your stomach purged itself, as it caught a glimpse of Fred's uncovered body. Taking a few deep breaths at the roadside before loosing the rest of what you'd eaten that morning. Chief Powell sighed and decided it would be better if he came to you.
"Why is he still just out here, like, like that?" you asked, accepting the paper towel offered by Chief Powell. "Can't be moved until forensics have properly investigated the scene, then we take it to the coroner's." Powell explained.
You spit a few more times before standing up.
"You ok?" Powell asked. "Everyone keeps asking that, and I think the answers always obvious." your words crackle out dryly.
"Well, so, you say you heard a crackling sound and a thud before seeing Fred like this?" Powell asked.
"mhm, It was loud. I was pretty far away at the time. I didn't see a person. Not in the trees or, or running away. But when I got to Fred, he was still warm and the blood a-around his eyes was....fresh." You could feel your stomach start to bubble again.
"But there was no one there, no one around. Nobody's that fast....nobody." you whispered.
"Maybe it was just too dark to see, maybe they had on black. Like a black jacket." Powell pushed. Your eyes thin as you scowl, "What, like a black leather jacket?" You snapped.
"Easy, just doing my job." Powell stated calmly.
"I....right." you whisper. "We don't know, ok. That's why there's no name in the media, yet. For now, I'm on your boyfriend's-"
"Ex-Boyfriend" you correct in a whisper.
"- side. Ok?" Powell asked.
He then spoke with extreme caution, "Now I have to ask what's coming next. I need you to understand that going in."
You give a nod of your head, but your defenses raised all the same. "What were you doing last night before finding Fred? Can anyone place you with them?" Powell asked.
A cold sweat swept across your palms and forehead, and Powell could see the urge to rage in your eyes. "I have to ask these questions." He warns again. It doesn't help, but you try to understand.
"I was with Nancy and Wayne, and then I was talking to some visitors in the woods. Three of." You said.
"Visitors?" Powell asked.
"Yeah, they're stranded in Hawkins because their van is totaled. Harvey down at Thatcher's is currently trying to figure out how to work on it. I'd seen the guy before. Rude lanky s.o.b was trying my patience in front of Barry's Big Buy." You explain.
"And did they seem suspicious at all?" Powell asked.
You remembered the gun Mick carried, and the bullet dents in the van. "But the fact is you don't know." You think to yourself. You give a simple shake of your head. "No, nothing other than they were from the city, for sure. And I mean, they're punks, so...to you and every other bland Hawkins denizen, probably looked a little 'spooky' but they weren't bad, offered to help me look for Eddie."
Powell crossed his arms, "they offered to help you?" He asked.
You nodded, "You know, often the suspect will be the closest one to the investigation." He said. "Then looks like you, me, Wayne and Nancy need to be at the top of the possible perp list, don't you think?" the hollow irony of your words nearly echoed.
"I'm just trying to help you help Eddie." Powell said.
"Yeah? Then find him." You shot, "find him. And give him a chance when you do."
You sigh, "can I go now? It's day two which means, I need to make flyers." your words sound small and Powell caves, "alright, you're free to go." He said, "I can have Callahan give you a ride."
After saying goodbye to Nancy, you begrudgingly go with Officer Callahan.
"Actually, Callahan can you drop me off at a friend's place instead?" You ask during the car ride.
Tumblr media
Jeff, Gareth and Nick rushed out of Jeff's garage the moment you stepped out of the police car. "What did you do?" Gareth asked quickly, the boy's eyes following as Callahan rode away.
"Nothing." You sighed. "He just gave me a ride."
"Bullshit," Nick murmured. You groan, "alright, but if I tell you, not a word about it. It's going to hit the news anyway." you warned.
"We swear," said Jeff.
"Whoever got Chrissy," You whispered, "They got Fred Benson too. Last night, out on the road not far from Forest Hills."
The boy glanced at each other, "did you see it happen?" asked Gareth. You give a feeble shake of your head, "no. But by the time I got to him, who ever did it shouldn't have gotten far." You said.
"Maybe he got hit by a car or something?" Nick asked. "Since when is the road out there traveled at night?" asked Jeff.
"Something, sucked in his eyes, there was blood all over his face. Even if you can talk away the broken bones...the eyes. That's got to be a signature, right?" You asked them.
The three boy look at each other, they can hear your nerves on edge. "Have you every heard the legend of the Creel family?" Gareth whispered. "Yeah, the dad snapped and killed his wife and kids. That sort of thing happens all the time." You say with a shrug.
"And he's ancient now." You add.
"You know what else happens all the time, Copycat killers." Jeff reasons.
Your mouth snaps shut, "See, knew it was a bad idea to bring it up." Gareth muttered. "Look, Y/n, it's probably not that bad." Nick said quickly, "Yeah, you know how Eddie is. He's probably just lying low for a while, when things calm down he'll call and -"
Jeff's words faded as water leaked into your eyes. "I do know, and he would have been at my door, that night." Your voice shivered. "Come on, don't try. You're working yourself up." Nick urged gently. "And freaking me out... I'm trying not to think about what could have happened." Jeff muttered.
"We were just in the middle of practicing a set to get our minds off of things. You can stay and listen for a bit. Give yourself a rest." Gareth offered. "Yeah, you look terrible." Nick added.
"Gee, thanks Nick." You said, while Jeff wacked Nick's shoulder. "But if you guys don't mind, please? I won't bother you."
"Oh, of course, come on." Gareth and the boys lead you into the garage and find you a chair to sit down on. You listen to two of their songs and realize you've never heard them before.
"Are those new?" You ask, the guys grin with pride, "Yeah, Eddie wrote them recently." Jeff said. "Worked with Nick to get the sound down."
"It's good." You praise. "Got lots of practice in on them since he had all the extra time on his hands after the....well never mind..." Gareth caught himself, though a little too late.
"Man, you're just on a roll with those screw-ups, aren't you?" Nick asked him. "I'm not doing on purpose." Gareth sighed.
"Uh...guys" Jeff murmured as a car slowed before his house. "Shit, it's Carver." you murmur. The boys stopped playing and Gareth stood up from his drums, As a group of guy sporting the Hawkins' Tigers lettermans strolled up.
"Fellas, sorry to say, but you're early. Show don't start til next week." Gareth called with a sour smile. Corroded met the team at the garage entrance.
"Oh, was that music?" asked Andy.
"Please, Anderson, you wouldn't know music if it crawled up your craw and died." You said drawing his attention. "It's easy to talk shit when you're hiding behind others, isn't it?" Andy shot back.
"She/he isn't hiding from you the likes of you, Andy." Nick said.
Jason sighed, "We're just looking for Eddie Munson. He’s in the band, if you can all it that." he said. Instantly offended, the guy became as still as a wall, "What do you care?" Gareth asked with a tilt of his head.
"They can't fight." you thought, and if you were honest neither could you, not well. You could scrap, but not alone, and not against three. Usually if the boy had to fight, they had Eddie.
You stepped forward, trying to support the boys as best you could. You also knew, the tired mess that you were, wasn't all that intimidating. "Fuck off Jason. If they did know where he was, why the hell would they tell you." You lulled, through a flat gaze.
"Funny how you seem to be everywhere. Trying to get your alibis straight?" Jason questioned. "Are you? Won't look good, boyfriend on a rampage. You might come off as having anger issues." You hum, "tsk tsk tsk, you know they always look at the boyfriend with anger problems." you said, wagging for finger.
Gareth squinted at the figure hiding behind Jason. "Lucas?" he asked.
"I'd never hurt Chris." Jason growled. "If they don't believe me about Eddie, why would they believe you?" You asked him. "Because I'm not a freak who sells drugs, or some loser with a record." Jason barked at you.
"No, you're just a golden boy who's hard of hearing. I wouldn't be here if I knew where he was." You said.
"But this is exactly where you'd be if he was here." said Patrick.
"Lucas, what are you doing with these douchebags?" Gareth asked, ignoring the back and forth. Jason's eyes slowly widened as he turned to face Lucas, who seemed to be shrinking in place.
"You know these freaks, Sinclair?" He asked. You close your eyes and shake your head. Lucas looked about nervously, "They know my sister, they tried to recruit me to their club? Cult? It was after Y/n left. They were desperate." Lucas said. "You didn't, Lu." You thought.
"Lucas, what the hell?" Jeff asked with a sneer of disbelief. Gareth and Nick quietly seethed. "But look what side he's on," you study Lucas carefully. "He's scared, and he still thinks he can salvage this," You thought.
"We're just trying to find Eddie, man." Lucas said to Jeff.
"Only you're on the wrong team, Lu." You sighed, crossing your arms. "And you have eyes, don't you? He's not here." Gareth said with a scowl. Jason nodded, and though you saw it coming, his swing flew faster than your warning would have.
Gareth took the punch to the jaw. "Hey!" Jeff called, rushing to help, and Andy honed on him, Patrick closing in on Nick. "Carver!" You called out, as he took another swing. "Where is he!" Jason yelled, grabbing Gareth by the collar. Andy held Jeff back by the arms, and Nick stood glaring into Patrick's eyes in a stand-off.
"I said, where is he!"
"I don't know!"
"Carver, get bent and go home! Alright!" You shouted. Jason swings again, it's enough to make you cringe, "screw it-" you whispered, Gareth holds out his arm to you. "Y/n, no." he said. "Get off him!" Jeff shouted as Jason hooked his arm around Gareth's neck. Lucas watched the scuffle stunned.
Gareth is flung into his drum set and with a loud crash it fell apart. "Yep, 6th grade, Jimmy fucking Gatsby all over again." You thought, drawing in a breath and moving forward, "Hey Jason!" Patrick called out in warning, But your foot stomped down into Jason's shin, causing him to stumble.
With a growl he looked up at you glaring. "Leave him alone and call off your stupid goonies, Carver." You said. He stands and gives you a hard shove, with the lack of sleep and stress it's more than enough and you stumbled backward.
"Damn it." you curse yourself.
Jason, grabbing Gareth by the collar, mashed his hand under his sneaker, "Gonna be hard to play drums when your hands broken!" Jason raged as Gareth screamed.
"That's enough!" You shout.
"Dustin Henderson! He was calling around looking for Eddie! M-maybe he found him." Gareth caved. You and Lucas look equally mortified. Jason smirked and looked around, "see, that wasn't that hard, was it?" He asked, but Gareth looked as if he wanted to cry. "Now where can we find this, Dustin?" He asked.
You managed to push yourself off the ground and lunged, arms wrapping around Jason's neck. "Shit she/he leaped!" Andy called out. "Get off him, Carver, that's assault! Strike two against the angry boyfriend!" You yell tauntingly in his ear, hoping to cause pain, bust his ear drum something.
"Yeah, and how is this gonna look for you?" He asked, struggling against you. "Like I'm helping the kid whose hand you're trying to break. Go home, Carver, let the police handle it!" Jason stands up and Gareth cradled his hand.
Your arms are latched tight as he tries to throw you off. "Damn, she/he's like a leech or something!" Patrick cried out.
"Chrissy would hate this, and you know it. You know it." you whisper, trying to get under his skin, and it quickly gets you thrown to the ground. You can feel your back crack, and groan. "Y/n!" Lucas gasped. "betcha that hurt." Andy snickered.
"What the hell's going on here? A party?" A familiar voice chimed.
Tilting your head back to look up, you spotted two displeased faces. "Seems like it." Mick mused, dropping her cigarette on the ground and stomping it out.
Jason and his boys turned to look towards the two new combers. "Can we come and play?" Axel asked, a vicious smile coming to his face as from his pocket with a spin for flare he pulled out a switch knife.
Jason's eyes fell on the blade, "more freaks?" Andy asked. "Don't piss these guys off, Andy, look at them." Patrick whispered. Axel held the group still while Mick helped you to your feet. You wince. "Easy. The jackass was right, that did look painful." She said.
"Beat it, go on, get lost." Axel said, glaring down at Jason. "Or do I need to teach you a lesson or two?" Axel asked, poking the H on Jason's jacket. "Come on, we're done here." Jason muttered.
Andy and Patrick were quick to follow, Andy pushing Jeff to the ground. "W-wait, wait! You leave Henderson alone!" You call after them. Lucas reluctantly follows, giving the four of you a guilty glance.
"Heard there was another death, Kali sent us looking for you." Mick explained. Kneeling, you check over Gareth, "let me see," you offer, but he just gazed down at his shoes. "It's ok, Gareth." You try your best to console him, but the guilt won't leave his eyes.
You sigh, letting Nick and Jeff take over. Standing, you turn to Mick, "who were the assholes?" Axel asked. "The first victim's boyfriend and his friends. They're looking for Eddie." You explain.
"Looks like we'd better find some wheels and get to looking then." said Axel. "At this rate, if the killer doesn't have him, it won't matter." He said. "They didn't have that, let's have a chat. Look about them." said Mick.
"I need to speak to Chief Powell and let him know Jason's gone mental." you sighed, but as you went to walk, a sharp pain shot through your back. "Whoa, maybe you ought to sit a minute first." called Nick.
"Maybe you're right." you whisper, heading back for the chair they'd given you earlier.

"Please, get out of my room."
Marinette's hand shook, trying desperately to keep the doll house behind her together enough to protect the Miracle Box. Her gaze fixed on her friends standing there, Rose crouched down to the sad remains of the doll house's roof while the others were looking on in concerned confusion.
Alya stepped forward first, the request apparently denied. "It's nothing, Marinette. We'll help you fix it, don't worry."
Except it wasn't nothing, it was everything, and of course none of the girls could've known that it was everything but it was. She'd barely had the Miracle Box for any time at all and now she was about to be exposed, the doll house feeling like some sort of metaphor for her life.
Raising her voice, Marinette replied strictly, "It's not nothing! Now leave!"
Most of the girls just stared at her, standing awkwardly in place. She asked - no, told - them to leave, and they weren't leaving. Why weren't they leaving?
Her palms were sweaty, making the task of holding up the doll house's wall all the more anxiety-inducing.
Alya huffed, her hands tightening into fists at her sides. "Okay, there's obviously something up—" She crossed her arms. "—and we're not going anywhere until you tell us what it is."
Mylene offered a smile that she clearly thought was reassuring, then held up a bracelet made of yellow threads with five colored beads along them. "We've already given our secrets to this bracelet, so now it's your turn."
Marinette wracked her brain for any memory of said bracelet, wondering if there were a promise she'd forgotten about - wondering if it was an excuse for them showing up out of nowhere - but there was nothing. She didn't even recognize it. Even over the voicemail they'd sent, there was no mention of such a thing.
The wall under her palm wavered, and she had to adjust quickly to keep it in place. She couldn't tell if it was too light or too heavy at this point, but it was ultimately just another thing to worry about that she didn't need. Her gaze flickered to it briefly to make sure it was properly held up, then swiftly focused back on the girls so as to not seem suspicious.
They really weren't going to leave. They were going to force her secrets out of her; force Ladybug out of her, the Miracle Box, everything.
Her stress levels were rising. She was panicking. It was all too much, and she—she...
She snapped.
"I'll—I'll tell you what's wrong!" she began. "You all walking into my room without my permission!"
The girls' mouths all shut in unison, their shoulders tense as they seemed suddenly lost for an argument.
"I didn't want to talk to you, and I definitely don't now!" A particular memory of the voicemail resurfaced, and she was reminded of what they'd said. "I thought you told me that I could talk where and when I wanted to? I thought all of you told me that, and then you showed up anyway?! Why would you lie to me like that?"
The words were bitter, only serving to make her angrier; at them, at herself, and at the whole situation. She hated lying - hated liars - and there was a part of her that couldn't help feeling hypocritical when she had to lie constantly to keep her identity secret.
But another part of her was quick to point out: she lied because she had to. They were lying despite having the choice.
Alya's brows furrowed, and it was hard to tell if she felt genuinely guilty or if she was just trying to think of how save the situation. She glanced back and forth from Marinette to Mylene, then hurriedly took the bracelet and held it out, arguing, "But if we're friends, you have to tell us everything anyway!"
Rose nodded in agreement, fists drawn up to her chest. "And real friends never let each other down!"
Marinette sputtered at first in response, multiple rambling responses trying to come out at once, from reminding them of either their intrusion or their lying to say that they had very much let her down.
Finally, her mouth settled on, "Then I guess we're not friends after all, since I'm letting you down so much! You're always pushing me, and setting things up even when I told you not to, and when everything goes wrong, it's always me who takes the blame, and me who gets teased for it!"
Alix recoiled at the outburst, then averted her gaze, looking somewhere between put off and ashamed as she grumbled, "We were just trying to help."
"I don't want your help! I don't even want you here!"
Marinette breathed shakily, her chest heavily at the emotions building in her chest. She could barely process what was coming out of her mouth and could only wonder how long she'd felt that way. How long had she been holding this in? How much had she been holding in? How long had she thought she deserved to be treated a certain way and took everything like she was the one at fault even if she'd done nothing?
Mental clarity kicked in, Marinette glaring and resolve blazing in her eyes as she asked, "Do you know why I didn't tell you anything?"
They looked on in curious trepidation, obviously not knowing the answer. At first, maybe she hadn't either.
"Because I didn't want you to meddle! Everything just goes wrong and I wanted to just live without worrying about it! I didn't want to  be teased, or talk about Adrien, or be ignored!"
"We don't ignore you!" Alya immediately interjected, taking on an offended tone. "That's why we're here!"
"Then why didn't you know?" Marinette challenged. "You noticed my crush on Adrien, but you didn't notice that I was dating Luka? When he was riding me home from school? When you took all those pictures of us together? I wanted to be left alone to be happy with him without anyone shouting at me about what to do and putting more pressure on me than I already have!"
Rose and Alya shifted in place, not making eye contact.
"You invaded my privacy, you broke my things, and you lied to me! If you're going to make me tell you everything, then—then—" She shook, the tornado of emotions hard to handle. "—then I don't want you as friends! Now get out!"
The girls collectively gaped at her, a few letting out audible gasps and Rose in particular covering her mouth with her hands. Everything went quiet, and Marinette's eyes must've been giving off fire with how any argument lingering on the girls' lips died before they could even come out.
Then, one by one, the girls began to turn and silently walk out of the room, some staying a second or two longer as if Marinette would change her mind if they held to the staring contest a bit longer. Alya was the last one out, her gaze darting up to Marinette one last time in vain.
Marinette just looked away, only reassured that the girls had left when she heard the click of the trap door. She exhaled, her arms stiff and her legs feeling like jelly as everything hit her at once. The gravity of the situation dragged her to the floor, the walls of the doll house falling apart to reveal the Miracle Box to no one but her and the kwami. She'd already cried too many times that day, but the tears were building up again. Anger, sadness, frustration...
Seeing Tikki hover close out of the corner of her eyes, Marinette lamented, "I didn't know what else to do. I didn't have a choice. I was just—and then—and they..."
"I know, Marinette," Tikki said quietly, though it was clear that she had very little comfort to add.
Marinette tried to steady her breathing, but she could see her tears falling onto the floor and knew that she'd lost control of her emotions. In a way, it almost felt relieving, like a weight off her chest that she didn't know had been there, but it didn't stop the terrible feelings from everything that happened that day, and the day before, and the day before that...
"We—" Marinette choked, realizing something and looking up with urgency. "Shadow Moth. He might come after me."
"Ah, but..." Tikki weakly tried to protest, watching as Marinette tried to force herself up.
"Gotta transform. Gotta be ready," Marinette murmured in a daze, her legs wobbling but managing to hold her up. Not letting Tikki get another word in, she hurried to command, "Tikki, spots on."
— — — — —
Marinette hugged her knees to her chest, back against the wall stretching upwards that helped make the bridge where she broke up with Luka. Part of her felt like coming here was some form of self-punishment - a reminder of what she'd lost and why she had to keep it that way - but another part just wanted to be here. It wasn't a good idea to be in her room where everything went down, or where her pictures were, or where the kwami would just remind her of all the things she didn't want to think about. It wasn't like her parents were going to check on her anyway, so she felt it best to be away from it all.
She tried to listen for the melody of the water that Luka had told her about, but every time she thought things were quiet enough to hear it, she would breathe in a little too hard, or Tikki would shuffle around in her purse at a loss for what to say. Marinette sighed in defeat, curling in on herself further and staring at the ground with her eyes half-lidded.
She wished she could go back; back to the day this whole mess started. Maybe she could've avoided Fu, Chloe, and maybe even Alya. She could've stayed in the background, unoffensive and just known as "the clumsy girl," one who didn't lie and leave class unexpectedly with the worse excuses possible. Avoiding Chloe would've meant avoiding her wrath, which meant that there would've been no misunderstanding with Adrien and no "spark" to ignite her crush underneath that umbrella.
Everything would've been so much easier. Maybe she would've met Luka sooner, bumping into him by accident one day and they'd drop all their things, her sketches mingling with his song sheets. They'd apologize and hurry to separate their stuff, then lock eyes and all would be well with the world. She'd stammer out her name when she introduced herself and he'd tease her affectionately, and it'd be okay because she wouldn't be busy being depressed over another guy.
They'd laugh, they'd get along, and there wouldn't be any drama in the way of them getting together. Without her having any responsibilities that would cause her to run off, they'd date, and they'd just... be happy.
Marinette closed her eyes, trying to let herself indulge in the fantasy even if only for a moment. The hold she had on her legs loosened, her hands sliding down until one of her hands brushed the opposite's wrist. She remembered Viperion - Luka - as the hero who thought first just like her and now could never be because of his identity being compromised, yet another by-product of her crush on Adrien in a way.
She exhaled, her thumb futilely brushing over her wrist; over a bangle that wasn't there.
Second Chance...
She wasn't sure how long she sat there, trying to live in fake memories, but when her eyes opened, she still found herself underneath the bridge in a life she didn't want. She stared blankly at the ground, the melody she'd desired still inaudible to her.
It took her a few seconds to realize that the view in front of her wasn't quite what it was before she closed her eyes, and it took a few more to notice the black distressed pants and the shoes splattered with varying random symbols at the corner of her vision. She blinked, unsure if she was seeing properly and wondering if she might be hallucinating after her fantasy, but a quick glance upward caused her eyes to meet Luka's, the brows above them furrowed with concern.
"A-ah," she let out involuntarily, straightening a little. Finally registering that he was there and very real, she inhaled sharply and stood, waving frantically at him as she stammered, "I-I'm so sorry! This is your spot, and I'm taking your spot, and I swear I didn't mean to—" She bent down and brushed her hands along the ground where she'd been sitting, as if she were cleaning it. "—I'll be gone soon, let me just—"
"It's okay," Luka assured while approaching her, his voice even softer than usual but with a tinge of sadness to it.
She stopped, hesitating, then looked back up at him in confusion. They hadn't talked since their break-up and she genuinely thought that he'd be upset with her.
"I'm glad," he said genuinely, "that you can find as much comfort in this place as I do. You don't have to go anywhere."
"...Oh," she uttered, her shoulders easing in mild relief. At least he didn't hate her, she supposed, though the awkwardness in the air was noticeable and she couldn't help noticing that he was keeping a minimum distance of three meters from her.
It hurt.
She fiddled with the strap of her purse, wondering why he was there and how she could've gotten so unlucky as to—well, that part was obvious actually, she'd been unlucky her whole life, but that didn't stop her from wondering what he was doing there. Was it something about his dad, or...?
Against her better judgment, she took a good look at his face, biting her bottom lip guiltily at the tired look in his eyes. He seemed as if he hadn't slept well in a few days, and she couldn't say that she was any different, which made the reason for his expression all the more obvious. It was a terrible feeling, already feeling bad that she made him feel bad and then feeling worse because there was a part of her that was a little glad to have meant so much to him that the break-up actually affected him.  He'd made her feel noticed and seen, something that was rare even amongst her frie—
Ah. Right.
She fidgeted, her feet shifting nervously against the ground. Juleka had been amongst the friends that she'd called out and forced to leave. She wasn't sure how close Luka was with his sister, as most of the interactions she'd seen were when they were in a group, but she was still his family. Did he know?
As if able to sense what she was thinking, Luka spoke up. "Jule told me."
Marinette winced and looked down, ashamed and fully expecting to be reprimanded. She clasped her hands at her waist, trying to mentally prepare herself.
Then, he immediately followed with, "Well, she mumbled it, but I got what she said."
It wasn't quite a joke, but it wasn't anything critical either. Marinette peeked back up at him, her brows scrunched together in confusion. He was smiling sadly, either understanding her or trying to be the sympathetic empath she'd always admired him for.
She averted her gaze, not feeling worthy of making eye contact with him. Sinking back against the wall, she sunk down to her earlier position and muttered, "I-it was for the best. I'm just... better off alone." She flinched at the sting in her chest that the words caused, but continued, "I won't hurt anyone that way. They can't be disappointed in me if we're not friends."
There was a pause, at which point Luka took a few steps closer, still maintaining a distance between them but also closing the gap significantly. "Why do you think you'll hurt people?"
She almost scoffed at that. "You would know why more than anyone, Luka." Though she still avoided looking at his face, she could see his fingers twitch from the corner of her vision. "I lie. I'm a liar! I'm just—" She spread her arms wide. "—I'm going to lie for the rest of my life, and ditch everyone and make them sad and they'll never know why!"
She'd tried to say it in an exaggerated tone to keep things light, but the tears started up. She held them back as best as she could, determined not to cry again when she'd already cried so much.
She heard Luka take a few steps closer, and he observed quietly, "But you don't want to."
"Of course not! But it doesn't matter! I should've known from the start that making friends was a mistake but I did it anyway!" She covered her face with her hands and shook her head. "I can't keep friends! I can't keep a boyfriend! I can barely keep this secret a secret!"
She didn't have to see his face to know that he was processing that. "...You can't tell me."
It was a realization for him, a mix of emotions in his voice and none of which she could place. She imagined he'd thought that it was a secret she'd chosen not to share with him, but that wasn't true.
She lowered her hands from her face. "I can't. I mean, not like—physically can't—it's not like the world would end if I did—" She halted briefly, stiffening at an unwelcome memory of Paris destroyed and underwater. "—o-or, maybe it would! But, it was never about trust, Luka! I trust you, I trust you so much, and I want to tell you so bad but I can't! It hurts but I can't! No one's supposed to know!"
She clutched her head, realizing that the conversation was spiraling downwards fast. She was torn between thinking that she'd said too much and then regretting how little she'd said when she'd broken up with him.
Luka took the final steps to close the distance between then, kneeling down to be closer to her level. "Marinette, I—I can't imagine what your secret could be, but it hurts watching you tear yourself apart like this."
"Well maybe that's how it's supposed to be!" she declared as she met his gaze, his eyes going wide in a mixture of pain and shock. She blinked rapidly, trying to fight the tears. "Maybe I'm just supposed to stay sad and alone forever! I have to do it all myself because that's the rule and it's my burden to carry!"
His heart was clearly breaking for her and it just made everything worse. He reached out to her, hovering his hand over her shoulder as a test and then settling it down with a feather-light touch when she didn't pull away. "I won't force you to tell me, and it's hard to say anything when I don't know what you're going through, but..." He hesitated, clearly feeling like it wasn't his place to say but being unable to help himself. "Couffaines break rules when we want to - when we know we have to - and I don't want to see you break instead."
She raised a hand, tempted to pull his hand from her shoulder, but stopped herself. "I-I don't have a choice. It's too dangerous. I can't let people close to me; I didn't even want to break up with you. You're amazing and sweet and I feel like I can tell you anything, but..." She looked down, defeated. "...you deserve better than this..."
He squeezed her shoulder, though whether it was a mix of offense at the comment, an attempt to comfort her, or both, she wasn't sure. "I can only tell you that I'd never tell anyone if I knew." He paused, as if to consider something, then added, "Even if it wasn't me - if it was someone else you trusted - I just don't want you to carry this alone."
She glanced up at him without moving her head, her mouth moving to reply but she ended up choking, then coughing in response to the air she'd just lost. Luka's free hand found her other shoulder as he leaned towards her, all the concern and love she could ever ask for being offered in his eyes.
He seemed to want to continue their conversation, but found something else to prioritize instead. "Do you want anything? Have you drank any water lately?"
The question caught her off guard until she remembered her coughing and mentally acknowledged that she might've been neglecting herself far more than she should've. Luka's hearing was on point, and she figured he must've heard the dryness of her throat.
She let out a small noise instead of a reply, no words given but Luka understood anyway. He stood up, his hands lingering on her for as long as possible before he turned and began to head back to the Liberty.
She watched him go, an ache in her chest even if she knew he'd come back. It reminded her of the day in the TV station where he confessed and she hadn't given him an answer, or when he'd comforted her after the break-up and she'd just taken it without a word back. It was all left incomplete, with him merely giving her  that respectful smile that told her that she only had to say what she was ready for.
But ready for what, exactly? Ready to talk? Ready for him?
Ready for herself?
"...I—" Her mouth moved on its own, her body leaning just slightly towards him as she said the words she'd always wanted to. "—I'm Ladybug."
It was practically a whisper - equivalent to a pin dropping - but Luka froze nonetheless, his foot mid-raise to take a step that never came. He'd heard her, and he finally moved as he turned to look at her, expression unreadable.
That's when the moment caught up with her, and the panic followed suit. "O-oh—oh no. Oh, I said it—you know—you—" She clutched at her capris, desperate to ground herself, but the hyperventilating was beginning to start, almost harmonizing with the sound of Luka's footsteps as he hurried over to her, closing the gap between them much faster than he had previously.
In an instant, he was on his knees in front of her, arms wrapped around her and lifting her slightly as he pulled her into a hug. She gasped in surprise, still blinking back tears as her senses registered that he was there: his body heat warming her, the fabric of his jacket against her face, the calming color combination of blues and blacks, and the faded scent of his body wash.
"L-luka," she whimpered, "I'm so sorry. Y-you're in danger—"
"It's okay," he assured softly, then again as if to be certain that she heard it, "It's okay."
She hesitated, her breathing still uneven, but she willed herself to release her capris - her fingers feeling stiff from how tightly she'd gripped them - so she could grab at his jacket instead. He responded in kind by hugging her tighter; too tight for a normal hug but just tight enough to bring her back down to reality.
"You're not alone anymore, Marinette," he whispered, "and I'm not going anywhere. I love you."
That did it, and the tears overflowed. She wrapped her arms around him, clinging to however much fabric her hands could grasp as she buried her face into his shoulder. No matter how strongly she hugged him, he didn't complain, simply letting her take whatever she needed from him.
In the silence of the embrace, she could finally hear the river's melody.
— — — — —
Marinette clasped her hands together on the couch, her breathing starting to steady as she watched Luka pour her fourth cup of water since she'd gotten there, the first three of which she'd downed in mere seconds. It was just the two of them there, which was comforting, as Juleka had apparently gone to Rose's house for the rest of the day and Anarka was... well, Anarka, and wouldn't be back until who knew when.
Luka returned to Marinette with a smile, offering the full cup of water to her. She reached for it, then stopped as she noticed how badly her hand was shaking. Taking a few more controlled breaths, she offered him a smile and gently pushed the cup towards him.
At his confused look, she observed, "You haven't been taking care of yourself either."
He opened his mouth, possibly to argue, then looked away from her, his eyes darting around at nothing. She could see the internal conversation in his head, playing out a scenario where he would try to insist, she would insist back that three cups was more than enough for her and he'd also taken none himself, and they would go back and forth until he relented.
His gaze softened, the conclusion to the mental argument clearly reached as he took a few sips from the cup. Rather than sitting on the couch, he sat down on the wooden table in front of it - a typical Couffaine move - so he could face her. Then, offering her a grateful smile, he asked, "How are you feeling?"
She smiled back at him, but it faltered as she stared at her lap, taking the time to legitimately think about the question. She ran her hands along her legs in a slow motion, hoping that it would stop any shakiness somehow.
"...Scared," she answered. "Nervous. Worried. Anxious." She pursed her lips as she realized that she was just listing off synonyms at that point.
Luka leaned towards her, resting his hand over one of the ones on her lap. "But, better than before?" he guessed.
Eyes half-lidded and fond, she nodded. "Yeah, and..." She turned the hand underneath his upwards so she could hold it. "I'm really glad you're here."
"I'm glad I'm here too," he whispered, as if to make sure that this moment was only for the two of them.
They stayed like that for a while, just enjoying each other's presence. Marinette was a mess of emotions, but refused to let go of the hand he'd offered her, her thumb stroking along the back of it.
"...Luka," she said after a few seconds of contemplation.
He didn't respond verbally, but he'd also already given her his full attention, and she knew he was listening.
She continued, "You're the last person I'd ever want to lose. If Shadow Moth finds out that you know—"
"If," he gently interjected, though his eyes encouraged her to go on.
"He'll use you. He'll take advantage of you. I don't want anything to happen to you, but I don't want you to leave either, because I really like you and you make me happy and better and—" She huffed, frustrated by the conundrum. "It feels like it's my fault. If I was stronger, or I wasn't so emotional, I..."
"Marinette."
She looked up at the tenderness in his voice. He set his cup down on the table, then slowly pushed himself off, crouching down in front of her as if to make himself appear as small as possible. His other hand found her free one and he held it, making their hand holding perfectly mutual.
"Do you remember the day we met? When my mom got akumatized?"
She nodded. "Yeah, of course."
He nodded in return, going on to explain, "You needed me to hide you, and I needed you to go get—" He caught himself, half-chuckling as the identity revelation adjusted his memories of that day. "—be Ladybug."
Marinette managed a smile. "You were covering for me, even back then."
He smiled back, looking almost too proud of that fact. "And we needed each other. No one can do everything alone, Marinette, so don't say you're sorry for the feelings that made up the song that's been stuck in my head ever since that day."
She swallowed involuntarily at the reminder of his confession. Judging from his smile widening, he noticed it.
"It's hard learning an instrument all by yourself," he continued, "and sad not having anyone to play to."
"And you want to be the whole crowd?" she asked quietly, her gaze drawn to their joined hands.
"Yeah," he answered, not missing a beat.
She took a breath, knowing it was too late to change things but still wanting to acknowledge the decision anyway. "O...okay. Thank you, Luka."
They exchanged loving smiles, and Marinette could've sworn that the eye contact alone was keeping her heart rate down. The future was still nerve-wracking, but she'd been afraid of it even before she'd told Luka her secret, so at least now she had someone who understood her and who she could talk to about it.
The conversation mutually ended there, but then Luka - wholly unprompted - let out an exaggerated sigh and tilted his head back. Curious, Marinette asked, "What is it?"
He grinned at her, a glint in his eyes that made it clear that he was in a teasing mood now that the atmosphere had lightened. "Does this mean I have to watch Chat Noir flirt with my girlfriend?"
She snorted, opening her mouth to reply before stopping as the words behind the joke caught up to her. She leaned forward and squeezed his hand, eyes wide with hope. "Girlfriend?"
He nodded without hesitation. "You said you didn't want to break up with me, Marinette, and I didn't want to break up with you either."
"Y-yeah, but—" She frowned, conflicted. "I'll still have to leave? Nothing's changed except you knowing why."
"I didn't date you so that we could go on dates," he replied. When she tilted her head in confusion at him, he briefly averted his gaze, a hint of shyness appearing on his face before he steeled himself up and looked back at her, clarifying, "I just wanted to be your boyfriend, dates or no dates."
"Oh. O-oh." And that was all she had to say about that, any coherent words burned away from the blush forming on her face.
Luka smiled hopefully, and Marinette quickly decided that bashfulness looked good on him. "So, if you want to make this work with me, then—"
"Yes!" she replied immediately, untangling her hands from his so she could push herself off the couch.
His eyes lit up, his arms spreading wide as she dropped into his lap, and he didn't recoil when she arched up to kiss him, her movements quick to ensure that there would've been no chance for them to be interrupted. She wrapped her arms around him, neither caring about the awkward position on the floor due to being lost in each other's touch.
There was a soft click when the kiss broke, Marinette promptly pulling herself against him and nestling her face near his collarbone, now able to properly enjoy the scent she'd missed for all those dreadful days they'd been apart.
Following up on what he'd told her underneath the bridge, she tightened her hold and whispered, "I love you too, Luka."
Snuggled so close to him, she swore that his heartbeat picked up, though she didn't have to feel it to know that he was happy, what with the way his hands shook against her and how he placed an immediate kiss on the top of her head. She let herself get absorbed in the moment, allowing herself to smile and think only of Luka, the one who respected her choices and feelings from the day they met.
There was no one else she'd rather share her identity with.

“I want a divorce.”
Never in Harry’s life did he think he’d have to hear those words. Not after everything they’d been through, not after all of the effort he’d been putting in to save their relationship.
Those words had not only stunned him but their marriage councillor, the woman’s mouth open mid-word, as she tried to comprehend what was happening. Harry was fairing even worse. It was like his brain was short-circuiting, synapses broken and no longer sending any signals.
“Mrs Styles, I know it’s difficult,” the therapist tried to diffuse the situation. “But the reason you’re here is to avoid this specifically.”
“I don’t remember how you smell anymore,” Y/N continued not listening to the woman, voice like a black void, but her Y/E/C eyes rimmed with tears. “Or taste. I don’t remember how it feels to have you pressed up against me or what it’s like to hear your voice. I… I don’t have anything to cling onto anymore.”
“It’s why we're here!” he cried through clenched teeth, slipping on his knees before her, hands grasping Y/N’s in a vice-like grip. “It’s why we’re trying.”
The laugh she let out was detached and without any love. “We tried it your way, Harry.” She’d never called him Harry before. It was always Lover. “And it’s not working for me. It hasn’t from the start. We’re… we’re so unhappy. And I don’t want that for you or for me. We deserve happiness. But I don’t think we can give that to one another anymore.” She took in a shaky breath, looking down at Harry’s hands in her lap. “When I thought of it, at first I felt horrible. I wanted to throw myself off somewhere, but the more I sat on that thought, the more relieved I felt.”
He couldn’t believe what he was hearing, didn’t want to believe it. “Relieved?” The word felt like acid in his mouth.
“Yes,” she nodded. “Relieved. Because this choice won’t make us hurt one another anymore. This gives us a chance to have a fresh start.”
“I don’t want a fresh start! We said – we said through thick and thin.” He was grasping onto the last straw he could find. “This is the thin, but we’ll get through it.”
“Harry, I already broke through the thin. And now I’m drowning. And when the thick comes, I’ll either be frozen under it and watch you walk further, or I’ll surface somewhere, and I don’t know on which side of the shore I’m gonna be on and where you’ll be. And if you try to get me, you’ll start drowning too. I don’t want that.”
“But that’s what marriage is! Going through the tough shit together!”
“Harry… I already asked Lionel to draw up the papers. The first draft is done.”
His blood froze in his veins.
“When you said to sit down and write one thing that makes me happy about the relationship,” Y/N was looking at the therapist now, “about the person, I – I couldn’t. Because I kept thinking back to the start, to the beginning. That’s what made me happy. But now…” She glanced at Harry. “If there was one thing, I couldn’t do to you, not in a moment like this, is lie. I just… I don’t remember how to be happy with you.”
***
They’d started out as the cliché of best-friends-lose-contact-only-to-be-reunited-and-not-let-their-chance-pass-by-and-fall-in-love. She was ten when she’d moved in next door to him and he was twelve when he’d seen the three vans full up to the house, a little girl hopping out from one of them. Harry watched as she rushed up the doorstep and put in a key, unlocking it and a new chapter of her life with it. Little did he know she’d unlocked a new chapter of his life as well.
She was the new kid at school, and despite the fact that he was a year above, he sat down next to her at lunch.
“ ’M ‘arry,” he said through a mouthful of a sandwich. “Saw you move in yesterday.”
“Yeah,” she nodded. “I’m Y/N.”
And that was the start of a blooming friendship.
On her eleventh birthday, he gave her a handmade bracelet. She gave him a kiss on the cheek as a thank you, making Harry blush all shades of pink and red.
He was thirteen when he had his first real kiss on his birthday. Y/N had simply tried to peck him on the cheek, but he’d turned his head, and her mouth had ended up on his. She’d walked away with a shy smile and ears on fire.
She was thirteen when a boy first asked her out. Harry was the first person she told him about it. That was the first time his heart broke.
When he was fifteen, he got his first girlfriend. Y/N was fourteen when her heart broke for the first time.
And then he'd gone on X-factor and with that forgotten about her. She called him, texted him, messaged him on social media, but usually, she’d maybe get only one picture or a small ‘miss you too’ as a response. So, after a whole year apart, she gave up. What was the point of trying to save anything when he didn’t want to?
He moved on and became an international superstar. Y/N moved on and graduated top of her class, got into her first-choice university, and graduated with a first as well. He had some relationships here and there, while Y/N had had a steady relationship since the second year of uni, but when she decided to go to a different one for her masters they amicably broke up.
Eight years later she was sitting at a café in London, laughing with her ex-boyfriend and catching up, as he explained how what Criminal Minds showed wasn’t really what was taught in his criminology degree classes.
“I’m still saying I dated real-life Spencer Reid,” Y/N chuckled, sipping on her gingerbread latte. “Don’t give a shit, I need something to flex with.”
Harry had then walked inside the café, shaking off the snow from his boots when a familiar laugh he hadn’t heard in ages invaded his senses. It was almost like he’d stepped into a dream.
When his green eyes befell on the owner of the voice, he had to take a double-take. Somehow in his brain, he’d expected the fifteen-year-old teenager, a t-shirt of his face on her body, as she’d cheered him on when he’d gone onto his first concert as part of One Direction to be sitting in the chair, not the grown-up woman.
He’d still checked in with Y/N through what she posted on her social media, but as much as he’d promised not to have the celebrity life sweep him away, it had. Harry sometimes had two concerts a day, and he barely had a moment to take a bite of food. And he hated to admit it, but Y/N simply slipped from his life. And he didn’t bother to put in the effort to pull her back.
A huge wave of guilt and longing rushed through his body as he glanced at the woman, her face lit up by joy as she and the man before her continued on with their conversation.
Someone tapped on his shoulder, making him turn around and face another customer. “You gonna order anything?”
For a moment Harry stuttered. He could walk away without inserting himself back into Y/N’s life, but he didn’t want that. He’d missed her. Harry didn’t even realise how much he’d missed her.
“You go ahead.” He motioned with his hand. “I’m still thinking.”
Harry took in a deep breath and then walked towards where the pair was sitting.
The man’s eyes flitted up to see who was towering over Y/N, only for them to widen, and his mouth hang open.
A sense of pride filled Harry's chest at the reaction and maybe quenched a little bit of the jealousy invading his body. He used to be the one who made Y/N laugh until she had to tell him to stop or she’d pee herself. He was back to take up the role.
“You okay there, Dan?” she chuckled. “Don’t tell me there’s a ghost behind my back. I told him not to walk out of the flat wit –“ Y/N had turned around and almost choked on her drink. “Oh my god, Harry! Oh – hi!” She jumped up hugging him, feeling how his body shook with laughter at her reaction, strong arms weaving around her middle. “Holy shit, it’s really you!”
           “Yeah, ‘s me. Who else?”
“I didn’t know you were back in the UK.”
A warmth spread through his chest, as he reluctantly pulled away from the hug. “Been checking in on me?”
Y/N rolled her eyes, sitting back down, but pulling up a third chair for Harry to sit upon. “Dan’s a huge fan.” She motioned with her head to the man. “When we first started dating, I thought he was only doing it because we used to be friends, and he hoped I’d set you up or something.”
Harry masked the choke of envy by clearing his throat and letting out an awkward chuckle. “Hope I’m not interrupting a date or something.”
“A catch-up date, but not a date date.” Dan lifted his brows at Y/N, who gave him a ‘don’t start this’ look to which he threw up his hands in surrender. “I’m just making conversation.”
“You’re being annoying, that’s what you are.” Y/N flicked a crumb from the table towards him.
It was in that moment that it truly hit how much he’d missed, and it hit him hard he no longer knew the person who once was his best friend.
“You’re different,” Harry said, looking over at her trying to keep the lump in his throat from making his voice break.
Y/N shrugged, eyes twinkling. “I mean it has been almost a decade. I do hope I don’t look the same as I did then. Otherwise, the pain of braces was of no use.”
“No,” he chuckled shaking his head. “’S not that… It’s like you’re a different person.”
“I grew up,” she said, sipping on the last bits of her drink. “ ’M not the same fifteen-year-old you saw last.”
He nodded and bit his lip. But the thing was, Harry wasn’t the stupid sixteen-year-old that left the fifteen-year-old her either. This time, he wouldn’t let the chance at happiness pass him by when he could’ve had it all along.
***
He sat across from Y/N at the large marble table and watched, heart bleeding out in his chest as she put her signature on the papers, her attorney fishing out something from his briefcase and handing it to her under the table. He saw her shoulders shudder before she placed a maroon rectangle with a golden inscription on it in her own purse. Harry wanted to vomit. It was her new passport, where her surname no longer matched his, where he no longer existed, inscribed into the document as her spouse.
“Mr Styles?” Y/N’s lawyer pushed the papers his way, the pen laying atop them. “’S your turn.”
‘Your turn’, as if it was a game of spin the bottle or UNO.
“Don’t make me,” he choked out, pleading with Y/N one last time. “Please don’t make me do this. Don’t make me give up on us.”
Her words were worse than a knife to his soul. “You can’t give up on something that’s no longer there.”
When they’d been at the stage of negotiation, he’d kept pushing for giving her at least half of his income, to give her one of the houses they owned together, but she’d turned everything down.
“I didn’t marry you for your money, Harry.” He’d expected her voice to be full of venom, but it wasn’t. It was sad, resigned. “I don’t want what you’ve earned.”
“Let me give you at least something.”
“I don’t want anything from you. If it makes you feel any better, you can donate whatever amount you wanted to give me. I don’t care. All I want from this is for you to sign the papers.”
           “And if I can’t?”
Y/N sighed, looking down at the table. “Don’t make this harder than it has to be.”
That’s when her attorney had cleared his throat. “Mrs Sty – Y/L/N. Legally, according to the prenup, you are entitled to half of Mr Styles estate as well as twenty percent of all his earnings.”
But Y/N just shook her head. “I only signed those documents because that’s what he and his agent wanted. I never asked for it or anything or the sort. Donate it, for all I care. Buy a new house, Harry I literally don’t want to know what you do with your money.” Y/N took in a sharp breath and calmed herself down. It’d been the first time Harry had heard any sort of emotion from her since she'd spoken those horrible words. “I just want this over with.”
And now, he was at the moment of the end. He just never thought their story would end with broken hearts and ripped up futures.
His handwriting was barely legible at best of times, but right now it seemed as if a toddler had tried to forge it with how much his hand shook. When the pen dropped, so did his shoulders, and he saw Y/N’s drop as well.
Harry’s with weight from the love lost, Y/N’s with relief, for now their broken hearts wouldn’t hurt one another no longer.
His lawyer handed him over a new passport as well, where Y/N was no longer written as his spouse. The urge to rip it to shreds was almost uncontainable. He hated it more than the divorce papers.
***
They’d been dating for a little over two years when he decided to propose, only every plan he had was miserably ruined by some outside force.
The first time he’d decided he’d do it at a romantic dinner. Harry had found out Y/N wasn’t a fan of huge romantic gestures, so he wouldn’t get on one knee and draw everyone’s attention. He’d simply take her hand in his, kiss her fingers and ask.
But as they’d sat at the table enjoying their meal and talking, he noticed Y/N become quieter and quieter. A frown morphed on his face.
           “You alright, Lovie?”
“Umm,” Y/N’s brow creased even more, and she dropped her fork. “I umm I don’t know. ‘M feeling kind of funky?”
           “What’dya mean?”
“I – “ Y/N opened her mouth but didn’t manage to get anything else out as she jumped up and rushed towards the ladies room.
Harry quickly dropped his own utensils and rushed after her, not bothering with the yells of the woman who was looking at herself in the mirror, while his girlfriend threw up her guts inside one of the toilets.
A member of the staff had run to see what all the commotion was about, but when he saw Y/N half inside a stall, half outside, Harry’s hands keeping her hair away from her face, he went back out and immediately grabbed the first aid kit they had in the kitchen, handing it to Harry along with a cold wet towel.
Y/N shuddered, leaning against the stall wall sweat glistening on her face, as he pressed the damp cloth against her skin. She gave him half a smile. “Told you not to get the shrimp.”
“I’ll get the cab, Lovie.” He smoothed away the once meticulously styled hair, which was now stuck to her damp skin.
But she shook her head. “Not yet.”
           “Why?”
“Because I’m about to puke again.”
In the end, she threw up two more times, her stomach really not agreeing with the entrée. The waiters kept apologising the whole time, and the chef had stopped cooking, the restaurant immediately taking action and refunding everyone who’d ordered anything with shrimps in them.
When they’d gotten back home, Y/N was so tired and felt so sick, Harry could only help her get out of the dress, clean her up with a warm towel and wrap her up in her favourite pyjamas before curling up together on his bed and falling asleep, making sure if there was a moment, she felt nauseous again, he was by her side. She needed his help more than he needed to propose.
***
He threw himself into his work like a madman. Day and night, he was either at a studio, on a filming lot, in between meetings or interviews. The media buzzed about how his marriage had fallen apart, even though Y/N hadn’t made a statement or spoken a word to anyone, and neither had Harry. But he guessed the emptiness of his ring finger gave everything away.
He refused, however, to speak on it. As painful as it was, he was still in love with Y/N. She hadn’t chosen to be in the spotlight, it was Harry’s world, not hers, so he respected her decision to be quiet and remained so himself, save for one single post his management had asked for him to put up. It'd also been the last time he'd spoken to her.
All he received was a simple text message 'do what you have to do'.
A couple of months down the line though, something came up, and Harry couldn’t keep his tongue behind his teeth.
It was an article in The Sun, a photograph of Y/N plastered all over the front page with the words ‘Gold-digger Y/L/N finally seen out after divorce with Harry Styles.” He’d snatched the paper right off the stand and flipped it open, frantic green eyes scanning the words.
‘Despite it only being two months since the two childhood ex-best friends broke up, Y/N Y/L/N was already seen in the company of a man, sharing a drink, and giving one another flirtatious smiles. An inside source tells us, how she hadn’t even been that upset about the divorce and has been going out and having fun with many male companions, one of them being her ex-boyfriend from university times.’
‘Harry Styles, known for his time in the pop boyband One Direction and for his solo endeavours in music as well as dabbling in acting, broke everyone’s belief in true love after being seen in public without a ring. This prompted an announcement that the four-year relationship and two-year marriage to who was once his best friend had ended and the two had decided to get a divorce. Although the post showed a picture of their silhouettes holding one another with their foreheads together, and his statement showed nothing but love and respect for his then-wife, sources say Y/N had been controlling and obsessive over her then-husband and hadn’t wanted him to leave to pursue his career, stifling his growth.’
He didn’t bother to read any further, as he pulled out his phone, calling Jeff immediately to figure out how to make all of it go away, how to do at least one thing right.
“They’re dragging her name through the mud!” he sneered, not even caring he was bumping shoulders with people, and if the paparazzi would dare spin a story of the state he was in at that moment, he’d sue each and every one of them personally. “I have to do something. Fuck, Jeff, I love her! I can’t let them paint her like this. Y/N – “ he choked back a lump. “She never asked for this. Didn’t ask for anything. And that man – that was Dan, okay. I know him. Yes, he’s her ex, but they don’t know anything!”
“Harry I’ve sent them cease-and-desist letters already.” Jeff tried to ease him. “But… she’s no longer your concern Har.”
The words hit him like a bullet and ripped a hole in his chest just like one of them would. “You might still love her,” Jeff’s voice was solemn. “But Y/N is no longer yours to protect.”
“I can’t just let them talk shit about her,” Harry whispered back.
His friend sighed on the other side of the line. “I know. Which is why we’ll deal with it. But you have to start letting her go.”
***
The second time Harry wanted to propose was about a month later, and Christmas was right around the corner. They’d decided that Christmas Eve would be spent with his sister, her boyfriend and Anne, while Christmas Day they’d go to Y/N’s side of the family.
Although they’d settled on one gift each, Harry had been carrying around that small box for what felt like an eternity. And it wouldn’t really be a gift, given how he’d wrap it and hang it in the tree.
“It’s an ornament,” he’d say to her, a smug smile on his lips, as Y/N would roll her eyes at him. “Just because it has your name on it, doesn’t mean it’s immediately a present.”
And then she’d open it, and would gasp, and Harry would slide down on his knee, press a kiss to her ring-free finger before asking that fateful question.
But just like before, his plan didn’t come to fruition.
He’d asked his mother to hang up the little box, so there was no chance of Y/N seeing it in his hands, but what he hadn’t thought of was Gemma’s boyfriend had decided on the exact same plan of action.
When Michal had dropped down on his knee, Harry’s sister’s trembling hand in his, he couldn’t do that to them. As much as he wanted to marry Y/N, he couldn’t take away Gemma’s moment. So while Y/N was preoccupied with looking at the gleaming diamond on Gemma’s finger, Harry plucked down the box from where it’d hung and placed it on the side no one could see, before he could put it in his bag.
“ ’M sorry, honey,” Anne had said to him over coffee the next morning. “I didn’t know Michal would do that.”
He’d just shaken his head, no hurt in his heart. “Great minds think alike. Our moment will come. ‘M happy for Gem. Besides, if he hadn’t done that anytime soon, I would’ve needed to have a stern talking.”
***
What his sister said to him made him think he had to be living in a simulation, because it couldn’t be true. Y/N couldn’t be getting married. Not this soon. Not ever. Not to someone who wasn’t him. It had been barely a year since he’d signed the death sentence to his own happiness.
Harry shook his head. “You’re lying. Tell me you’re lying, Gem.”
“I’m not.” Her voice broke as she said it. “I saw her at a café. Saw the ring… the man who gave it to her. Harry, I’m so sorry.”
His mind reeled with questions he wasn’t sure he wanted answers to. Was that why she’d really divorced him? Had she been cheating on him and just needed an excuse out of their relationship to jump into the new one? He was away so much on their relationship, he wouldn’t have been surprised if someone else had swooped in and tried to win her heart.
Harry’s mind was one of the greatest things he’d been blessed him, but also one of the worst curses bestowed upon him, as it weaved a story of Y/N and the man who’d now put a gleaming ring on her finger.
He was away, like always, doing something he could do another time. She was on her own, keeping their bed warm with just her body, fighting for their relationship on her own, while he made plans once more to go to a different part of the world and leave her behind again.
Y/N pulled herself out of the bed, sighing and rubbing her face. She opened their closet only to be greeted with Harry’s half empty. Maybe that was the moment she decided to find someone who’d fill it and wouldn’t leave it permanently empty, Harry conjured up.
She’d dress in a soft jumper and some jeans, a large cardigan hanging over her body and would go to a café for her morning drink. And that’s where she’d meet him. The stranger that would take her out of the lonely life she’d been living. The stranger that would make a smile bloom on her face and her heart stutter once more. The stranger who would show her the love Y/N deserved to have.
Harry had to shake his head to get rid of the thoughts before they ventured into a worse territory.
No. Y/N wasn’t like that. No matter what, she would never cheat on him. She had enough dignity for herself and respect for him, even though in his own mind, Harry didn’t think he deserved it.
Although he didn’t have a right to, nor was it the sanest move (and if someone saw him doing it, there would probably be a slew of articles), Harry got into his car and drove to where Y/N’s apartment was, and when she opened the door after hearing seven loud knocks, he stepped inside without even waiting for her to invite him.
           “You’re getting married?”
She crossed her arms. “It’s none of your concern.”
“It’s been barely a year! I refuse to believe you’ve moved on so fast.”
Maybe he was kidding himself, and Y/N truly had, but as much as their marriage had fallen apart, he did have the honour of having known her and having figured some things out deeper than others would.
Y//N scoffed. “I was proposed to. And I said yes.” The words were like venom entering his veins. “If I wasn’t, then I wouldn’t have agreed to it. And as I already said – it is none of your concern.”
Harry stood there, watching as she dragged a hand down her face, eyes flitting everywhere he wasn’t. It told him everything he needed to know.
“You’re not happy,” he whispered stepping forward and reaching for her hand. “I know how you shine when you’re truly happy. This isn’t it. Why are you doing this?”
           “That doesn’t matter.”
Harry was so confused, at a complete loss at what Y/N was saying. “So, you’ll what? Get married to him and be miserable? Why the hell did you divorce me then?”
Y/N sighed. “Being unhappy with him isn’t as unbearable as being unhappy with you. Because with you, I know what it feels like to truly fully loved. Which is why it broke me when you stopped.”
“I never stopped!” Harry whisper yelled, anger coursing through his veins at her words, because they were lies. “Why do you think I dragged us to marriage counselling? Why do you think I kept fighting for us? For you?! You were the one that gave up!”
“You weren’t there when I needed you.”
Harry blinked rapidly, not understanding what she meant.
“You left me for ten years. You forgot all about me until that day at the café. Not once did you message me or call me or even send fucking snail mail. I was the one putting in all the effort, I was the one who was trying to keep you in my life, but you didn’t want it. Just like it was when we were married.”
Rage bubbled under the surface, but he kept it at bay. That was not how he’d get Y/N back. “How?” he asked calmly. “How did I not want it?”
She scoffed shaking her head. “It was the same as it was ten years ago. With the movie, the new album... You were always at the studio or hanging out with your castmates. When I asked for you to free up one night, one single night, you didn’t come back until three AM, drunk off your ass, and I had to take care of you. I asked for one night. And you didn’t even give me that. So forgive me for not feeling like you still loved me.”
“Why didn’t you talk to me then?!”
“I did!” This was the first time he’d ever heard Y/N yell, before kneading her lips tightly together and then continuing more quietly. “But you never heard me. Not really. You heard what I asked, and promised to be there, but when the time came… something more important always came up. Something that always deserved to have the promise you gave me to be broken.” Y/N gave him a sad smile. “Do you remember when you first asked me out? And I said no?”
Harry nodded. “You said that we just got one another back and didn’t want to have anything rip us apart again. Didn’t even want to chance it.”
“And you said it was exactly why I should give us a chance. That we’d finally found one another again and shouldn’t let the opportunity go…” She tilted her head. “Guess we should’ve listened to me. I included.”
He couldn’t believe her. “Is that really your takeaway here? You were right?”
“But I was.” Y/N shrugged. “Look at where we are now. You forgot me for basically ten years.” She shrugged, stepping away. “Give it some time, and you’ll forget me for the rest of your life. Besides, we’ve not known one another longer than we have. So, it shouldn’t be that hard.”
“Why did you then? Go out with me?” Harry swallowed the lump in his throat. “Get married to me?”
For a moment Y/N just looked at him, Y/E/C eyes boring into his green ones. “Because I’d once again convinced myself I was important to you, just like I did when we were teens. And in my head, I had dreamt up that maybe I’d be important enough for you not to forget me.”
***
The third time did the charm though.
They were both sleepy, under the covers of Harry’s bed, eyes barely keeping open as they were determined to finish Elf.
Y/N had her cheek pressed against his chest, bare body next to his naked one. She hated sleeping in pyjamas (unless they were staying over at one of their parent’s places,) because she said it made her feel like the clothes were suffocating her. Harry didn’t like sleeping with pyjamas because all he wanted was to fully feel the skin of his lover next to his.
Snow fell behind the large windows of his London penthouse apartment, covering the city in a white blanket. It rarely snowed there, so he watched with warmth in his heart as the flakes fluttered to the ground.
It was all so calm, so serene, that Harry realised that’d been the moment he’d been waiting for. No need for fancy dinners or present it as a loud gift. Being together was a gift enough.
“Lovie?” he asked, nose hidden in her hair. “You awake?”
All he received in answer was a small hum. She was on the verge of passing out, but this was the moment, so, he whispered the question, voice so low as if he was asking the dark to marry him not Y/N.
He couldn’t look at her, afraid of what she might say, afraid she might say no, think back to the times he wasn’t there for her, think of all the reasons why he wasn’t good enough for her, and would only bring her sorrow.
“Lover.” Her voice was as soft as a summer’s morning. “Look at me. Please.”
It was one of the most frightening things in his life, as he did so.
Y/E/C eyes met green. What he saw on her face allowed his heart to calm down a little.
“Is the Sun the closest star to us?”
           That he hadn’t expected. “What?”
“Does it rise in the East and set in the West?”
           “Y-yes?”
Her hand cupped his cheek, and he melted against her. “Then why are you asking me a question you know the answer will be the same as to those?”
“Can I put the ring on your finger then?” He was more excited than about anything in his life.
Y/N shook her head, bringing his lips to brush against hers. “Don’t need a ring. Just need you to kiss me.”
***
The wedding was far away from the city so that no one from the press could even think about following her or her entourage. The guest list was small, compared to the three hundred people Harry’s and her wedding had had.
Anne had told him not to go. He wasn’t invited, and neither was she or Gemma, for obvious reasons. As much as Y/N loved them, she knew it’d hurt the two women, but it would hurt Harry more. So seeing her stepping out of the car, dressed in a cream wedding gown, a veil covering her face, made flashbacks appear behind Harry’s eyelids.
She’d worn an off-white gown before as well, dusty rose to be exact. And Harry’s bow tie had matched it. Y/N had never liked the thought of wearing white at her wedding.
“Listen, if it’s white, I’ll most definitely spill something on it,” she’d told him as both of them had been flipping through some wedding magazines. “You know me. But if it’s some other colour, there’s a bigger chance no one will notice when that happens.”
It didn’t seem right to him. It was like a bad fever-dream like he’d had that one time, and Y/N had had to listen to him babble about the hallucinations dancing in front of him because of the high temperature.
Her gaze remained on the ground, or maybe on the bucket of white roses in her hands. She hated white roses.
A woman in a pale blue dress straightened out the back of Y/N’s dress and the train of it, and he watched as her mother came to stand beside her daughter, giving her an elbow to grasp onto.
All he wanted was for Y/N to be happy, and it hurt to think it wasn’t with him because Harry believed it was supposed to be him.
He took in a shaky breath and got out of the car just as Y/N had walked up the steps and disappeared behind the double doors.
It was going to be him.
***
Harry knew he wasn’t the best husband in the world. He was away for a lot of time, and as conceited of an excuse it was, his job did entail going out to parties, mingling with other people living the high life, and being seen with certain celebs.
Y/N was never one for it. She always supported Harry, but she didn’t like going out and spending time with people who didn’t care for her existence. Well, maybe they did, but only in a sense that she’d been the lucky bitch who’d snagged up the Harry Styles.
But if there was something Harry did was love, and he loved wholeheartedly, which is why it absolutely destroyed him when he’d gotten back home one evening and heard Y/N crying in their bathroom.
She’d never tell him, but it was because no longer did his pillow smell like him. Harry had been away for so long, that the essence of him that’d soaked into their sheets was no longer there. And it broke her to pieces.
When he’d get home, he’d be so tired, he’d crash on the couch, only tiptoeing his way into their shared room to go to his closet and get some clean clothes in the morning. He’d look over at his sleeping wife and allow a blissful smile to bloom on his face at the sight.
He was so lucky to have Y/N back in his life. He was so lucky she’d accepted him and fallen for him as he’d fallen for her. He’d silently move over and press a kiss to her temple, before going back down and off to work once more. Only he wouldn’t see the dried tears on her cheeks.
So, when he’d found her curled up in the tub, hands in her hair, face hidden by her knees, frame trembling like leaves in a storm, he instantly dropped to his knees, ignoring the sharp pain shooting through his bones, as he pulled Y/N into him.
“I can’t, Harry,” she choked out, shaking her head. He knew it was bad. She never called him by his name. “I can’t do this. I’m so alone. Even when you’re here, I’m alone.”
Harry had had his heart broken before, and always he wondered afterwards if someone took it out of his chest at that moment, what kind of a sound would it make. Or maybe it wouldn’t. Maybe it’d be as silent as the tears running down his face at Y/N’s confession.
“Maybe,” he swallowed harshly trying to keep his whole body from shaking, from showing the fear her statement instilled in him. “Maybe we need couple’s therapy.”
“What?” her eyebrows had shot up to the middle of the forehead.
“Y/N, we’re clearly having problems. I – I know I need to work on things, but you’re also not telling me how you’re feeling. Maybe we just need some help.”
She didn’t really know what to respond. In her mind, Y/N had somehow conjured up an image that if she ever got married, they’d be happy. Sure, they’d fight and have rows, but they’d always be able to work things out on their own. Not once in her life, did she ever think she’d need to go and see a marriage counsellor to help her save her marriage.
Her own parents much like Harry’s had gotten divorced. Hers had tried therapy. It’d been their last resort. It didn't work. So, when he’d mentioned it to her, that’s what made her decide it was truly over.
Y/N nodded, bringing him in for a hug, and felt his body melt into hers with relief.
She’d try, for Harry, but her mind was already made up.
***
So he stood outside the doors, listening for the line of ‘if there is anyone who opposes this union speak up now, or forever hold your peace’. His hand grasped the handle, ready to push, but… he couldn’t. He’d ruined her happy ever after once before. He couldn’t do that again to her.
Tears streamed down his face as he pocketed his hands and ventured away from the ceremony. The ceremony where the love of his life was promising to cherish someone else, to fight through thick and thin with someone else, to make someone else happy, while her own happiness suffered.
Harry sat in his car, waiting for her to exit, a smile on her face as she’d hold the hand of who now was her husband. That'd be the moment he'd let go of her. But when the doors sprung open, she was alone, hands clutching onto the front of her dress, as she rushed down the steps and back inside the car she’d arrived in.
For a second he sat in his vehicle, stunned beyond belief at what had happened, at what, as horrible as it sounded, he hoped had happened. When a man, hand in his hair ran outside as well, the same woman in the pale blue dress rushing out with him, Harry knew.
He was basically a madman on the road, breaking almost every possible law as he tried to catch up to the car Y/N had jumped in.
His mind raced with the possibilities of where she could’ve gone. The airport, her family’s summer house in Winchester, honestly anywhere in the world, but Harry shut up his mind, and allowed his heart to make the decision.
It didn’t seem like Y/N had premeditated fleeing from her wedding, which meant she’d need her stuff. And that meant going to her apartment as quickly as possible before someone came to look for her.
The way he parked was probably illegal leaving the car basically in the middle of the road, but Harry didn’t care much as he frantically rushed up the steps of her apartment complex. He was scared that if he knocked, she wouldn’t open, thinking it might be someone from the wedding, but he didn’t need to be afraid of it, as he saw Y/N, her hair still styled as it had been for the ceremony, dressed in jeans and a t-shirt, a suitcase in hand exiting from the flat.
“Why didn’t you do it?” he breathlessly asked, startling her and making her drop the keys.
Y/N’s eyebrows furrowed. “What? What are you doing here?”
Harry stepped closer, hand cupping her cheek, insides trembling from all of the emotions coursing through his body. “Why didn’t you do it? Marry him? Why didn’t you say yes?”
           “I – “ Y/N choked on her words. “I couldn’t say yes. It didn’t feel right.”
           “Why?”
“Because it wasn’t you, I was saying yes to.”
That was all Harry needed to kiss her like he'd done once before. And this time, he wasn’t going to let her go. He’d made that mistake twice. He would never repeat it again.
“I love you,” he cried through a laugh. “I love you. I love you. I love you. And I’m never letting you slip through my fingers ever again.”
“How can you even think about loving me again after what I did to us?” she asked, pulling away from his lips.
Harry chuckled, shaking his head. “You’re talking like I ever stopped. Through thick and thin. It’s what we promised. Think and thin, my Lovie."
***
A sixteen-year-old Harry and a fifteen-year-old Y/N laid outside in the grass of Harry’s garden; eyes trained onto the dark night starlit sky above. It was the day before his life changed forever as did hers.
“Do you believe in soulmates?” Harry asked, trying to catch a glimpse of a shooting star.
Y/N scrunched up her nose. “No. I don’t think I do. And I don’t think I want one.”
           “Why not?”
“What if they’re old and in their thirties? Or dead?”
           Harry snorted at her response.
“And you?” Y/N turned her head to look at him. “Do you believe in soulmates?
He bit his lip and nodded. “I think I do. I think it’s two people who’ve been brought together, and no matter what happens will find their way to one another. Through thick and thin.”
"And what if one of them breaks the other's heart?"
"That's the thin." He looked at her. "And you don't give up then. It's when you need to love them even more."

Are lily ,posy and Oliver helpings daddy deal with the stress of the album coming out in two days?
How about momma? Maybe a bj to help him relax?
I love this ask so so so much because you made it into the Luke&Lily universe 🥺 and the last part is *chefs kiss* I hope you like it!💕
Tumblr media
***
With the album only two days away, Luke wanted to have one last listening party with everyone over at the house. You were more than ecstatic to abide that because he's been nervous ever since he announced a solo album release.
The two of you spent many late nights discussing it, more of you encouraging him to write his heart out. Ashton helped as much as he could as hype man as well considering he released an album almost a year ago now.
You were all gathered around the fire pit outside letting Luke's ethereal voice serenade you into the summer evening. Lily and Posy loved to dance to his songs, they twirled and did their own version of a ballerina's pirouette.
You were sat on Luke's lap watching the girls dance and everyone else's reaction to his heart coming through. Ashton had his head pointed to the stars alternating his eyes from open to close humming along to the choruses. Calum sat forward with his elbows on his knees staring into the fire, Luke's words resonating with him on a deeper level.
Crystal held Oliver in her arms, a soft smile on her face as she rocked with the ballads. Michael had his arm around her, staring at Oliver with a look of concentration and admiration.
"This is what I had trouble with at this next bit," Luke murmurs in your ear. His arms tighten around your waist, his lips move against your shoulder when he speaks.
You listen intently but in your ears, it's all perfect and beautiful. You know this album backwards and forwards. When the kids were asleep you'd listen to all of his alternate ideas. It made you warm inside that he wanted to share this with you, this project that was just Luke; soft, tender, real.
Halfway through, Lily climbed onto Calum's lap and listened quietly with the rest of them. Posy snuggled with Ashton, she played with his bracelets on his wrists humming along to her daddy's voice.
When the album ended there was a moment of silence. Luke squeezed you again, his breath hitching and then everyone clapped.
"It's sensational, mate, well done," Ashton shakes his head.
"Yeah, it's perfect," Calum agrees.
"Thanks," Luke sighs keeping cover behind your shoulder. "I've been feeling like I'm going to throw up all week."
"Everyone's going to love it, Luke," Michael adds.
"That's what I've been telling him," you smile at him proudly. You brush back a curl from his face. "It's beautiful, babe, truly."
It wasn't very long until Posy and Oliver became fussy. Posy was clinging to Luke and Oliver's cries were of the sleepy kind. With hugs and kisses and more words of encouragement, they all left.
You could see the stress in Luke's shoulders as the two of you did the nightly routine with all three kids.
"Does this mean you'll be leaving sooner?" Lily asks him as he brushes her hair.
"Leaving? Where am I going, sweets?"
"With Uncle Cal, on tour," she's playing with the ears of her pink bunny. The pink bunny Luke gave her when he first met her.
"Oh. No, I won't be leaving. This record is more like...it's like a diary," Luke explains. "It helps me sort out my thoughts and feelings and music helps as well."
"I want a diary."
"I'll get you one," he smiles setting her brush down and kisses the top of her head. "Into bed, my sweet."
Oliver is in your arms and Posy is hanging onto your fingers as you enter Lily's room. Luke tucks her in kissing her forehead.
"Sweet dreams sweet Lily," he murmurs. "I love you."
"Love you dada," she smiles.
Posy hugs Lily goodnight and Luke scoops her up in his arms, her head falls heavily on his shoulder.
"Your turn for bed, love bug," Luke tells her and you follow them into her room.
Posy sets her in her toddler bed, making sure her purple elephant is right next to her. You're patting at Oliver's butt when he makes a noise listening in to the short story Luke is telling Posy. This one was about a fairy Princess named Posy who loved to dance and dream.
"Sometimes, she would sleep on a star," Luke's voice is hushed, his hand stroking over the top of her head. "And it would take her high in the sky so close to the moon. The moon watched over the fairy Princess Posy until the sun came and woke her up with a warm kiss."
"I think she's out," you whisper. Luke kisses her cheek then you give him Oliver to hold.
"Goodnight my Posy girl," you whisper and kiss her forehead.
You leave her door open a crack then move into Oliver's nursery. He's already been asleep for a while so Luke sets him in his crib gently. You let him talk to his son for a moment and hold out your hand when he turns around. Luke takes your hand warmly in his bringing it to his mouth for a kiss.
"I love you," he whispers, baby blues steady on yours.
"I love you."
You thought you'd be getting ready for bed and fall asleep together but Luke mentioned he left something outside. You shrug it off and did your own nightly routine waiting for him to return.
Thirty minutes went by and Luke still wasn't in bed with you. You make sure to grab the baby monitor before you go to find him. Sure enough, he's downstairs in his music room, the sounds of his album luring you closer and closer.
Luke's sitting on the couch, his arms spread along the back of it with his head against the wall. His foot is bouncing with the beat and he's singing along quietly to himself.
You can feel his nerves from the doorway and an idea sparks in your mind. You close the door behind you in case the girls wake up but they're out like lights so you're pretty sure they won't come in here. Oliver's monitor is placed on a pile of records and you move in front of Luke on the floor. You touch his knee delicately.
"Hey," he mumbles, his head still pointed towards the ceiling.
"What're you doing down here all by yourself?" you ask touching his other knee. You're silently rubbing up his legs in a soothing way.
"Thinking. I can't believe this is gonna be heard in two days," he rubs his face with his hand.
"You know what I think?" you ask stretching up over his legs, your palms sliding up his thighs to the center of his crotch. You stroke your thumb over his clothed dick in a teasing manner and that gets his attention. His head perks up.
"I'd love to know what you think, lovie," he exhales watching you.
With your eyes on his, you rub over his growing bulge until you think it becomes a bit uncomfortable.
"I think," you undo his pants and tug them down, down, down to his ankles. He helps kicking them off. You're still rubbing at his hips, and you press butterfly kisses to his thighs, up, up, up. "I think you need to relax."
"Yeah?"
"Mhm," you nod grabbing his fully hard dick in your palm. You stroke him slightly and you nip at his love handle loving the way his stomach clenches. "And I think I can help."
"I think you can, too," he smiles.
You turn your head to kiss his hip, then leave open mouthed kisses up his shaft until you're at the tip. You bat your eyes at him as you close your lips around his head, swirling your tongue over him. Your hand moves down with your mouth as you swallow him as far as you can.
"Oh, baby," he moans. His hand flies to your hair, not adding pressure but just to hold you. You hum at his moan as you lift your mouth off him only to go back down again.
Your mouth and hand work in tandem until he's slick with your spit then you fondle his balls with your fingers.
"Fuck, lovie, just like that. Mm," he moans again lifting his hips to meet your mouth.
"Like that?" you ask and he gasps at the vibration of your words. "You're so good, baby. Everyone's going to love your album."
"Don't talk about the album now," he nearly whines, "just keep--ah doing what you're doing."
You smile and bob your head back down, gagging slightly when his hips meet your throat. Luke's thighs clench beneath your fingers and you know he's close so you start to move faster.
"Lovie, lovie, lovie, lovie," he pulls you off him and onto his lap.
"I wasn't done," you protest.
"I want you."
A shared desire is exchanged in both your eyes and you both work quickly to remove your shorts and underwear. Luke guides himself inside of you and you slip over him easily.
"Look at me, lovie," he whispers.
When you do, he takes hold of your hips and thrusts heavily into you, you gasp loudly.
"Shh, shh, c'mere," he silences your gasps with his own mouth.
You rock your hips with him enthusiastically, feeling the pleasure rise up your neck and down to your toes. You're a mess of heated breath and pants, movements becoming jerky.
"Come with me, lovie...let me feel you," he murmurs. With a final snap of his hips, you cry out against his lips and he lets out a loud groan as he fills you up with warmth.
"Luke," you sigh resting your body heavily against him. When you say his name he smiles against you because what you really said was 'I love you.'
"I love you, too, Y/N. Thank you for being my everything."
"You're my everything," you frame his cheeks in your hands. "I'm so proud of you."

Little Witch - Part 26.
The Darkling x Reader
You didn't speak a word, didn't move a muscle. The anger raged inside of you like a storm, tearing every rational thought down on its path. it didn't help that even though he lied to you, your love for him never dwindled. You might as well have been back at Kribirsk, for you were so in your head you didn't pay attention to anything going on around you. The only thing that broke your trance was the unmistakable sound of volcra closing in. You listened to their shrill cries, the wails reverberating across the Fold.
'I should just tear this down' You heard Alina urge, desperation seeping into her words. She was powerless, only her words had any effect. You longed to help them too, to end the volcra's suffering but that couldn't happen without you sacrificing yourself in the process. Alina had her heart set in the right place, but you wouldn't ever let the Fold fall.
'And what can you really do on your own?.....besides, it would be a monumental waste of power.' Aleksander was quick to shut her down, his own reasons for keeping the Fold standing up against hers.
They swopped lower and lower, their black wings visible from beneath the shadows. You peered closer to the edge of the skiff, looking out for more of the poor creatures and spotting one right above the skiff.
Reaching your hands out in an attempt to move the volcra, a bright flash of light beat you to it, the rays burning your skin like nothing you'd ever felt in your life. Your knees hit the deck before you could register what was happening as your hands gripped the edge of the skiff. It hurts. A silent groan left your lips, too quiet for anyone to notice. The burning continued, this time in your mind. It left a buzzing sound behind so loud it echoed along the walls of your mind, deafening you in the process. The pounding was paralyzing.
Nobody on the deck noticed the Deputy General kneeling in pain, they were all too fixated on the Sun-Summoner and the Darkling to glance an eye in your direction. Alina's light had hurt you, hurt the child of Merzost as if you were a volcra.
Even in the depths of the Fold and in your home, you were too weak to spare a look at what was going on at the front of the deck. The skiff was approaching Novokribirsk now, the natural light from the other side filtering through Alina's tunnel. You had been bent over in pain for majority of the trip and still, nobody noticed.
You felt a lull in the skiff's movement, but the pain in your head was still too much. It stung and pulsed, dulling every single sense in your body. There was nothing else you could concentrate on but the pain, this horrid debilitating pain. You grasped at your power, trying to calm your spiraling heart rate, trying to stop the blood from rushing so quickly but you were stumped; helpless. Your eyes had long shut tightly, seeing only a pure white sight. Not even your mind spared you the safety blanket of darkness.
A hand on your shoulder suddenly snapped you out of it, grounding you back to the deck of the skiff but its touch disappeared almost as soon as you'd felt it. The buzzing was still deep within your skull, playing like an out-of-tune violin. You snapped your head up, meeting the eyes of none other than Ivan. His expression read one of fear and utter terror and you didn't understand why.
You stood up wearily, coming face to face with the heartrenderer, and watched as he took measured steps away from you before coming to Aleksander's right hand yet again. You looked to Aleksander, though your eyes were still squinted in pain, you could make out his unforgettable stature.
'And I shall do mine.' His arms were outstretched- ready to pounce
You turned your attention to the skyline and watched as the light from Novokribirsk mellowed and the view of the port diminished. In horror, you watched as the Fold expanded, as directed by Aleksander, and destroyed the lives of many in the process. You could hear their screams and shouts; the pain.
But you also felt a surge of strength and of power. It fought the buzzing sound idly as you watched the shadows bleed into the air.
'WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!' You ran up to the front of the deck, shoving him aside and watching with wide eyes the damage that had been done. His hand came to entangle around your arm but you shoved him away, both with your strength and a gust of wind.
You turned your head to look at him but instead found your eyes looking to Alina, who took it as her queue to further project the tunnel of light into the docks. A volcra flew by, disintegrating into the wrecked town and its surroundings. Novokribirsk was gone. Zoya looked at it with pure terror and dread and an earlier conversation came back to you, one where she spoke of her family. Oh Saints.
'No you don't' He took hold of Alina's hands and brought back the shadows already pooling at light's edge. The screams ripped through the air once more, the volcra cries stabbing at your heart again. You turned your head to look back to Zoya when a strand of your hair caught your attention. It no longer contrasted the black kefta at all. You ran to the small mirror on the deck and stilled at the reflection.
The person staring back at you in the plane was not you. The girl in the mirror donned black hair. Hair so dark it left no traces of other pigments. Her eyes were a glittering onyx with small black capillaries shooting through the whites of her eyes. Black veins poked out from under her kefta collar, and upon further inspection, the same black veins traveled down to her hands, curling around her wrists like a bracelet. The running of the veins was like a design, it flowed like a pen on paper drawn by an artist. They were Merzost.
You stared at yourself in shock. This was not you; it couldn't be. But the girl in the mirror said otherwise.
A scream broke you out of your trance, the familiar name snapping your neck to its origin. Mal.
Mal lay splayed out on the ground with blood pooling out of his mouth and Alina perched next to him, reaching for his hand. The foreign dignitaries stood frozen as they watched the scene play out, their fear filling the atmosphere pungently. The skiff abruptly moved, its sails once again filling with air. Zoya stood at the top, hands outstretched and eager.
'General Kirigan, this will only turn the world against you and all Grisha. You’ll be seen not as a savior, but a heretic.' The irony.
In a swift motion, Ivan takes control of all their hearts and one by one they drop dead-like lifeless dolls. A gasp escaped your lips as your position is once again known and Aleksander's eyes land on you, all of you. His brows raise at your appearance.
'I’ll have to give that speech again now, Y/N, won't I? Or will you have the decency to join me next time?' He directs your way.
'Me? Are you insane?' Your anger could no longer contain itself as you launch the Cut his way knowing well he would dodge it. He moved to the side, launching one your way too. Instead of dodging it, you split it right down the middle, sending it over the rails. The skiff picked up its speed, making you slightly lose your footing and Aleksander noticed too.
'ZOYA' He roared up to her in warning, but you willed her not to listen. Instead, she egged the skiff forward.
'You promised me!' Two slivers of shadows crept up your legs and wrapped themselves around your wrists, pulling your hands away from each other and rendering you useless.
'That was before you murdered a whole town!' You strained your arms, trying your hardest to loosen the grip of his shadows. 'You took her light, General. If you wanted to be like me you could have just asked' Even in the face of his betrayal, you still couldn't bring yourself to say his name in public. His name was sacred, it was your secret.
'I don't want to hurt you Y/N' He took calculated steps toward you, eyes flooded with despair. His hand came up to your hair, taking a piece and inspecting it carefully 'What happened?'
'I came onto this skiff, that's what happened.' you spit. 'How are you alright with what you've just done?' Your own previous experience haunts your mind for a brief second, the occurrence still a trauma. He on the other hand looks unbothered. Another day at work.
'I did what I had to -' His words get interrupted by the sound of gunshots, ones you can feel zip by your ear and head his way. He sends the cut flying behind you and the shadows at your wrists let up just as a knife embeds itself in his chest. You watch as the same veins on your body crawl up his neck. His are more abundant, nothing like yours in appearance, but they are there.
'It will take more than THIS' he rips the knife out and folds his hands in front of him and the shadows race forward 'You stay in the dark' The back of the skiff now settled itself into the Fold, the volcra flying above like the predators they are.
Zoya. You take a look at Aleksander whose eyes are closely watching you along with Ivan's.
'Don't.' His words are clear but you don't care. Zoya is back there. You listen to his steady heartbeat and feel the air in his lungs. The Fold's nothingness swims in his lungs, swirling from each breath he takes. Without thinking, you knock the air out of him and slam his body against the rail of the skiff, running to the back of the skiff to help Zoya. Just as you clamber up the stairs, you see her blue kefta dropping to the ground and a volcra swarming toward her.
'NO' You knock it out of the way and cushion her fall with a gust. A Suli girl runs over, checking on Zoya briefly but turns to you. The volcra circle over the skiff.
'Ready?' You nod. The young girl nods back and clutches knives to her chest. You count the number of pulses on this side of the skiff, too many to risk.
You start by sending out your flames and then the shadows, filling the volcra's lungs with the tendrils while she attacks it with her knives. Its shrills are pitiful but you block them out. It doesn't seem to give up as it flies closer to her, completely ignoring you. The wind blows it away briefly before a man with a cane goes toward the volcra mercilessly. You curse out loudly, knowing that the noise attracts others, you can feel them coming.
'Alina, for Saints sake!' You shout as you watch her from your position laying on the ground, not even trying. You run back down to the deck, only one thing on your mind. If she can't light it up then I will, but as you run, his strong hands come to lock yours behind your back and one comes to your throat.
'Was this the plan all along? He says in your ear and his hold tightens, slowly blocking off your air. His voice is strained and you could swear he sounds hurt.
'I came back for you, it's always been you.' you plead. You still love him, you do. But my morals and my love are two different things.
'I really thought I could trust you again. But you only ever want what is mine.' Your vision turns blurry as you feel your chest contract. Ivan. 'If you love something let it go, isn't that the saying?' Your head bops forward slightly which seems to be enough for him to let your drop to your knees in front of him, right next to a dying Mal.
As you try to regain your awareness, the sounds of volcra in your head become too much to bear. They drown out everything as they approach the skiff, silently letting you know they will kill everything on the other side of the light. You struggle to get up, hands clawing at your throat as air enters your lungs again. As if that wasn't enough for your already frail body, another flash of light expels from Alina. The burning sensation overwhelms you again, dwindling your will to live. It burns worse this time, singeing you all over. A scream of pain erupts from your lips as you watch the veins on your hand become darker and darker.
A hand around your waist surprised you as it helps you get up from the ground. 'It's okay, It's okay' Aleksander. His forehead is pressed up against your temple as you continue to cry out in pain. You open your eyes briefly and look at the hand holding your waist- void of a Stag bone. The shock is barely enough to let you forget the pain though.
'It hurts' Your own tears burn as they roll down your face.
'I know' He leaves a kiss to your temple before leaning down to your ear 'I love you, you can still keep the promise Y/N. Please' His arms tighten one last time before leaving you feeling cold in the absence of the Fold.
Slowly, the reality of the situation settles in your stomach. He just said his goodbye, and I never told him I loved him too. Everything stills again and nothing seems to process in your mind. Maybe I'm dying, maybe Alina killed me.
You can hear her shout for Mal as he and Aleksander battle it out on the unlit sands. You can hear her struggling as Ivan collapses her blood vessels. You can hear Ivan's lifeless body drop to the ground. But your mind refuses to cooperate.
Even as a volcra sweeps down and grabs Aleksander mercilessly, you push your body past the limit and jump overboard, letting out pathetic shouts of plea to the volcra, bring him back to me, please. Your powers don't rise to your call, your mind won't listen.
The light shoots out again from a now awake Alina, but your numb now, the pain had reached its limit.
Zoya begs for you to come back to safety, Mal grabs your limp body and tugs you back but you shove him off with the last of your strength. The Crows stand by on the deck and listen to your heartbreaking sobs. Nobody misses the way the atmosphere in the Fold shifts with every cry, how the usually empty place emanates one single emotion; anguish.
They sit and watch in fear and astonishment as volcra fly above you, never once attacking. They watch as they settle on the sands, heads cowering to your shaken body, and they listen to the cries, ones very alike in pain to yours.
They watched as the Little Witch loses her soulmate, in the one place she ever knew as home.

He & She
He He had made the reservations the day before. He bought new shoes. And on that day he smelled like vanilla. Issey Miyake.
She She was asleep when I called her at 2:00pm. She wore yesterdays jeans. And she smelt like her apartment. Aromatherapy.
He He ordered wine, house white, poured me a glass. The food was expensive and bland. He strategically placed his hand on the table Our knuckles brushed, I pulled back.
She She got a coca-cola, I asked for orange juice. She ordered nuggets to share. Our shoulders touched when we collected our tray. She was warm like a jacket.
He He bought roses and he got down on one knee. I don’t even like flowers.
She She got me a cat bracelet with a loose clasp and a box of menthols. I lit one for me and one for her.
He He said I love you. I couldn’t say it back because that wasn’t what he wanted. And we were hurt, angry and sad. But I still wonder, if he truly loved me... why wouldn’t he be my friend?
She She said you’re tiring, difficult, attention seeking You need to work on that. And I said I know, I know, I know I know I’m sorry I’m trying, I’m trying. Please don’t go. I love you, you’re my perfect friend. But she went.
I’m still screaming about her. With the long hair, red hair, short hair, green hair, with the sharp eyes, brown eyes, small smile, wide smile, harsh tone, angelic song, with the long stride, small steps, who smells like cheese, who smells like cake batter, who always worried about growing old and putting on weight, when she was always beautiful, whose words could hurt like a knife, whose words could change your life and I…
And I.
Always childish, always selfish, didn’t know anything but liked to act like I knew everything, always not enough, always talking, never listening, going on about the same old same old and I can’t stand it, I’ve cried in front of the mirror so many times, but I think I’m gorgeous, I never worry except I always do and I just keep screaming because I can’t let her go.
Except I can.
Enter you.
You with the short hair, long hair, bedhead, with one tattoo, with three tattoos, with glasses, with contacts, with the blinking when you get out of bed half awake, with terrible selfies but good photos, who smells like smoke, like prunes, like shampoo and deodorant, with boot cut jeans, graphic tees, with takeaway ramli, with the headrubs, with a game, with a computer review and I nod to the next few sentences but I don’t understand, with soft words comforting me at work, with soft words when I want death, with soft words when I’m drunk, with soft words when I cry, with soft words when I cry about her, with soft words, and I
I’m so happy that you love me.
It doesn’t hurt when you say you love me.
I’m so happy that your love doesn’t smell like Issey Miyake and roses.
I’m so happy that your love doesn’t taste like orange juice and nuggets.
I’m so happy that you aren’t tired even though I’m too much and difficult and hard to love and
And I’m so happy that you know that I love you, My dearest friend.
