#listen personally. with Animated. it’s about the Vibes#because these are such incomprehensibly long time scales for humans it’s kind of pointless to try to get an exact number on it#but I agree with this lineup of Age Vibes#however the one thing that I don’t necessarily agree with here:#I’m not sure we can take Shockwave calling Ratchet a ‘’tough old model’’ as evidence that he’s older than Shockwave#Ratchet absolutely SEEMS the oldest out of. maybe every other character excluding Alpha Trion#but personally I feel like most if not all of Decepticon High Command was there to see the war start#and Ratchet might have been too!#but I also feel like a big part of WHY he seems so fucking old is that he’s so traumatized. he is SO traumatized#he’s seen the horrors and they fucked up his vibes so bad that now he’s a grandpa#to me the vibes of Shockwave fighting Ratchet were Old Man vs. Old Man#so that’s my two cents on that#anyway yeah. it’s about the Energy since the numbers are basically useless#without defined strata of Cybertronian age and corresponding places in society
This is unrelated but I literally follow no other transformers blogs, so...
It's funny how tfa handles age. Prowl and ratchet are the same age but prowl is a nature loving twink while ratchet is... The war
I don't think they're the same age tbh. The timeline is a bit inconsistent, but if we go off the first episode, 1. Ratchet considers prowl to be young, implying he's probably closer in age to Optimus than he is to ratchet, even if hes still older than Optimus and can remember at least a little of the war before it ended. And 2. The war only ended a few centuries before the show starts up. Which gives us an age range for Optimus, and puts prowl only slightly above it because it's very likely he was only drafted at the very tail end of the war, whereas ratchet was likely around long before it even started. It's also hard to tell exactly HOW long before the war ratchet was built, but it's older than shockwave (he calls him a tough old model) who we can safely assume was a young bot by its inception.
In human years it's probably something like this
Bumblebee & Bulkhead: 20ish
Optimus: mid 20s
Prowl: late 20s, pushing 30
Probably all of con high command (assuming they were all together from the start of the war): anywhere from late 30s to early 50s (kinda hard to tell, we don't have a great timeline)
Ratchet: 60s-70s
But even then, trying to apply human timespans to it is a fool's errand because we don't really know how long it takes for them to reach maturity vs how long they live in total. Bumblebee could've joined boot camp only a few months after the assembly line with a fully formed brain and a short period of schooling (we know they gotta get some level of orientation after they come online if Arcee existing is any indication), he could've been 18 in earth years, or centuries old.
It's always gonna be wild because their lifespans are truly just incomprehensibly long. We just don't have any sort of framework for how that affects the psyche, let alone how it'd work for a separate sentient species.
#reblog#transformers#my thought (influenced heavily by Pyne I think) is that ratchet is prewar and prowl periwar#um. I also have no idea how long the war was and it appears I was Heavily highballing how long it was since the war#I do think that transformers have a super duper short youth (for whatever short means in terms of things that live. millions of years)#so they kind of pop out of the protoform mold and are shortly popped into some life track which then they can stick with or do something#else. like idk what bee was doing (he could have been fresh) but bulkhead was on an Energon farm.#autobootcamp like high school or something and then uhhhhh academy. thats what its called. college.#hm#unsure#anyway ratchet in addition to The Trauma has chronic old man syndrome#AND was probably (as pointed out to me) like. robot middle aged. during the war flashback. I thought he was like 20something or he could be#whatever age you get a medical degree. 30#older#I dont know if I would say ratchet is older than shockwave. he might just be more out of date/in poorer repair#or something#megatron is some absurd number of years old. like 14 mil or something???#how long was the war.....#anyway I think its down to personality a lot more than physical age.#....ok not totally related but I am warming to “shockwave younger than ratchet”

I am on my yearly reread of the twilight books, and the older I get the more ridiculous it is for me that the cullens are in high school. Like, they all hate it, they do not do anything to fit in, they pretend to be adopted siblings who all date eachother (super weird) and honestly the fact that Jasper,a former warlord, has to do high school over and over again while being super thirsty and dangerous to the students all the time... so dumb!!! I always wonder what Maria would think about it lol
It really is one of the most bizarre choices SM made other than imprinting on babies.
I've said before it feels like something she decided and then worked backward trying to justify. That is, I feel like she thought, "I want my normal human girl and beautiful vampire boy to meet in school" and then made up reasons why they would bother to go to high school ("to blend in" "if we start out younger the longer we can stay") and came up with a cover story ("Edward, Emmett and Alice are adopted by the late 20s/early 30s Dr. and Mrs Cullen; Jasper and Rosalie are Mrs. Cullen's orphaned nephew and niece") and then had to explain the sun problem ("parents pull them out to go camping and hiking on sunny days") and then just . . . didn't care that they were dating their foster siblings/legal cousins because "they're not actually related."
The other way one might approach this is like, okay, I have my cast of characters: 5 vampires aged 17-20, and two vampires in their 20s who play a parental sort of role, one of whom is a doctor. 6 of the 7 are coupled off. How do I think they would spend their time and what would be the most convincing story to tell the humans?
And I think if she stated from that, she probably wouldn't have come up with the high school students dating their foster siblings adopted by very young parents thing.
Options that I think would make more sense:
ONLY Edward and maybe Alice go to school. Maybe IDK Alice foresees they have to be in school to meet Edward's soulmate or ~whatever.
Jasper, Rosalie and Carlisle are all tall and blond. Boom, say they're related. Can be half-siblings if Rose and Carlisle want to keep their respective surnames. Edward and Esme both have brownish hair with some red in it. Esme and Carlisle are married. Alice and Emmett are dating members of this family.
Forget the family thing and say they all have some rare disease and Dr. Cullen has it too and is a leading expert and he and his wife run a home for kids suffering from whatever this is to help them learn to manage their symptoms. They get pulled out of school all the time for medical appointments not "to go camping." They are all pale with weird eyes but don't share similar features, so that lends itself to having the same condition.
Or none of them go to school! Why would you spend eternity that way! Edward can meet Bella at a library or a bookstore!
Or college. College would work. Can get a different degree each time rather than repeating high school curriculum uselessly.

Arturo's talent confuses me a lot
Okay so on this fine 12:30 PM I was thinking about the newest QnA, and how DRDTDev said this in it
And it was always something that intrigued me a lot because I really could not figure out what it meant or why the exact ages of the cast were kept hidden. That is, until I started thinking about everyone's favorite(...?) Ultimate Plastic Surgeon, Arturo Giles. Specifically, his talent in question. Because to put it bluntly: How in the everliving FUCK is Arturo a Plastic Surgeon at his age Now you might wonder just what I mean by that, and as such let me run you down the requirements to be a plastic surgeon in the US from what I have researched:
Now obviously these are only three sources, and this is mainly referring to the US because that is where DRDT takes place, but the point still stands. For Arturo to become a licensed plastic surgeon, he would have to go through a six year program/residency for plastic surgery, obtain a bachelor's degree (or I guess whatever Hope's Peak's version of a bachelors degree is) which is canonically a four-year university in the DRDTverse, as WELL as an extra four years in medical school.
(Now fair warning, I am not the best when it comes to reading comprehension, so there might be some things in the screenshots I linked that I ultimately missed. And if so, you're allowed to (politely) point it out to me !) Even if there are a few things I misread, it still brings into question how Arturo obtained his talent when you look at his possible age Now obviously, as I mentioned before, the DT cast's actual age is a spoiler. But that doesn't mean we can't speculate based on the information we do have from the series
(A challenger has approached: Min Jeung /j) This line from the first bonus episode is the closest thing we get to a clear-cut age for the DT cast, where Unnamed Classmate / Mai says that Min is 18. Unfortunate jinxing aside, this also brings back up the fact that Hope's Peak in the DTverse is a four-year university course akin to US college (I'll actually include a screenshot this time)
So it can be assumed that this bonus episode (and I assume Xander's), takes place during their first year at Hope's Peak, and assuming that the rest of the cast is the same age they were all 18-19 during their first year. But that isn't all ! As remember, these guys have their HPA memories snatched from them, so let's cover that as well
Now, we don't know how long "a few years" could be. It could be only one year like Rose said initially, it could be two, three, hell ten for all we know. However, Min (as posted before) and Xander don't seem to have aged that much in comparison to their current appearences. So I'm going to assume (keyword here, assume) that about three years at most have been taken from them. as that would put them largely around the end of HPA. So with all of this in mind, that would mean that Arturo is around 19-22 during the events of the death game, but even with that considered, that still means that Arturo was scouted and given the title of Ultimate Plastic Surgeon at 18. And that is where my confusion lies since that...is basically impossible DRDT-Dev has clearly thoroughly researched all of the talents of the cast and how they work in the DTverse and in general seems to be very intricate when it comes to their writing, so I highly doubt they would make an oversight like this. There has got to be a reasoning for this. And I can think of three possible ones 1. Arturo is some kind of prodigy in the medical and cosmetic surgery field which could've led to him becoming a plastic surgeon much earlier in life than one typically would 2. Arturo is just straightup lying about his ultimate talent for whatever reason, possibly fabricating the license on his coat. He's obviously not faking his medical knowledge as we've seen in the actual series, but him faking his ultimate isn't exactly ruled out 3. The DRDT cast are much older then we or they realize, and there is another reason why they still look to be in their early 20s (I swear to god if this turns out to be some virtual world shit I am actually going to go insane /lh)
...Or the 4th reason that being I AM looking too deep into this, but whatever it's fun to overanalyze this shit Please let me know what you think, I'd love to hear other people's opinions on this !
#{🍀It is an equal failing to trust everybody and to trust no one at all. and to trust no one at all.🌟}#~💫 a constellation!💫~#danganronpa despair time#drdt#fanganronpa#arturo giles#drdt arturo#I did not expect my first somewhat analysis post in months to be about Arturo of all characters but eh expect the unexpected

Best college research is in USA cost vs degree use which has a list of schools, this gives you the best loan for degree cost of the degree is the goal. Look at that and the subject then online at the best cross matches. Unless you want a social experience mostly then whatever vibes. Listen you know anti-trans bigotry like in your about has NO ethical point in feminism, it's just bigotry.
Thank you for the advice on college :)
I'm not a bigot. I'm not anti-trans. I don't think trans people are inherently evil. But I do not believe you can change your biological sex. I do not believe allowing trans women into women's sports, changing rooms, sexualities (lesbians being pressured to date trans women), etc. is good for women and girls. It's not just a belief I have, it's factually proven to be dangerous to put TW in women's prisons (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and in bathrooms (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 [5 is written by a trans woman]).
I'm not saying I hate trans people or that I don't trust them or that teens/children who identify as transgender are "broken" or "wrong" like people have said I do. I think we have manipulated an entire generation of lesbians and homosexual boys (though not all trans-identified people are homosexual/bisexual) into believing they have to be the opposite sex. We've lied to dysphoric teens and told them they're going to die if they don't recieve gender-affirming care (see all the posts on the protecttranskids, transgenocide, transrights etc. hashtags).
This is also evident in that anytime you question someone who says trans people are experiencing a genocide, especially a younger person (like a teenager who gets all their information from Instagram and TikTok) they actually can't come up with a single example. Even when they bring up the so-called "anti-trans legislature" being passed in the United States, they can't name any specific bans, because that actually does not exist. What I linked for you is HB1276, which, if you read it, allows minors who underwent sexual reassignment surgery to sue their doctors up to 30 years after they turn 18 for malpractice if they regret surgery. Trans Legislation Tracker labels this an "anti-trans" bill.
They have reason to regret it, too. Lupron, the drug administered in FtM transition to dysphoric females, has painful and sometimes deadly side effects that gender-affirming medical clinics will not disclose with you in full. (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
Also, a disproportionate amount of FtM females are autistic, homosexual, and depressed. I care especially about these women because I'm eighteen, autistic, and a lesbian, so I really resonate with their pain and struggle. I'm not disgusted by transgender individuals and I'm not angry with them. I feel terrible for them. And I want to help.
What I think we have in the world now is an extreme lack of education. It's harming girls and women my age, when there are more affordable and better options. We've known for a long time doctors will push medicines that don't work/shouldn't be as expensive as they are in order to make money (I'm talking about things like selling insulin for $500 a vial. I'm not talking about things like vaccines.).
If you want to change your name and use other pronouns, cool, fine, whatever. I don't care what you do with your life, your money, and your time. But don't call yourself male or female when you're not. See my pinned post for why doing so harms women and men.
Transgenderism is motivated by misogyny. Go to any of the subreddits created for TW (r/Egg_irl, r/MtF, r/transgender [though that one contains trans men also]) and you'll see in every "How I knew I was trans" post that these people consider being female synonymous with being feminine, and it isn't. I'm not feminine. Does that make me a man? No. It just makes me a nonfeminine woman.
I'm not denying the existence of gender dysphoria. Many of my mutuals are desisted females who still struggle with it. But hormone therapy/SRS (sexual reassignment surgery) are very clearly not the answer. I hope this helps you understand my position better. I also hope I've not come across as condescending or patronizing in any way.

The Crew of the Astraea
In the spirit of my re-organizing of the Star Saga, I think it's time to re-introduce Dawn's crew! So here we go:
Captain Dawn Harkyr
Race: human
Age: approximately late twenties-early thirties
Rank: Force Captain; Freelance Division
Captain of the ship, which means basically she does what she wants and the Force can complain about it all they want--she usually doesn't listen. Has super powers and a cool sword. Her eyes actually look like black opals most of the time, but get glowy gold when using her powers.
Art
Commander Mygre Elisxce
Race: Altani
Age: 30 Coalition years
Rank: Force Commander; Freelance Division
While being Dawn's second in command, Mygre also acts as the ship's chief (and only, really) engineer. She's an excellent cook, buff as heck, has a knife for every day of the year, and can and will insult you in several different languages.
Art [I can't find the post rn because Tumblr but will update later!]
Trainee Navigator Surive Fallon
Race: Garalye
Age: 16 Coalition years
Rank: No Force rank; claimed by Dawn and Mygre as a trainee/apprentice
Suri is an orphan they picked up on their travels and unofficially adopted. Though technically a trainee Navigator, she does whatever needs doing that fits her skills, and is always eager to learn more. An elios with technopathy abilities. Transgender.
Medic Yitera [last name? Not sure yet]
Race: Ooranve
Age: 31 Coalition years
Rank: Doesn't have a Force rank; allowed to be the Medic because they're a Freelance ship. And because they really need one (getting hurt a lot)
Yitera joined her non-Coalition world's military in order to escape an abusive home situation, and became a field medic. She eventually was granted Coalition citizenship and got a degree in Xenobiology before she joined on with the Astraea.
Navigator Drex'asik
Race: Teripod
Age: 86 Coalition years
As Navigator, Drex doesn't really fly the ship, but she does chart its course between Jump Points in the most efficient routes. She can fly the ship, but usually it only needs manual flying in tight spaces. Which, well, doesn't happen too often in space.
Someday I will re-do this drawing digitally and make her purple as she should be!
Communications Officer Corvin
Race: Marchen
Age: 25 Coalition years
As Coms Officer, Corvin handles incoming/outgoing messages and all kinds of scanning. But like most of the crew, he can handle other tasks as they come up, too.
Someday I will also redraw this one and make him pink as he should be!
Archivist Frenefern’kan
Race: Akkeid
Age: 17 Coalition years
Isn't Fren a little young to be an Academy certified Archivist? Yes, yes they are. They're one of the most talented Archivists (basically professional researchers/librarians) the Academy has ever seen. They could have had their pick of any Archivist posting in the Coalition, but they decided to join the Astraea. Akkeid are natural nomads, so it makes sense they wouldn't want to stay still.
Literally photosynthetic.

ayano monoma--> basic info
[art at the bottom!]
NAME: Ayano Monoma
AGE: 40
HEIGHT: 5'0"
GENDER: Cis woman, she/her
QUIRK: Personal Understanding; By touching an individual, Ayano becomes privy to the details of their quirk, even those unknown to the user. However, this does not include unawakened traits. She can also force the quirk to activate, although it must be within 30 minutes of her touching the individual, and can only last up to 15 minutes. With someone like her husband, whose quirk she's been able to practice with for a very long time, she can even "control it" to some degree, but this is far out of the realm of what she can do with most people.
FAMILY:
Shigeo Monoma, 42, husband
Yasuo Monoma, 16, son
Neito Monoma, 16, son
??? Monoma, Deceased, father
speedrun basics:
-she was going to be a twin, but absorbed her twin in the womb
-her father had the original Forced Activation quirk, and was killed by AFO when she was 10. she found the body.
-she's a graduate of UA's management course.
-CEO of Monomerch, a company that licenses and produces hero merchandise
-the company was founded by her great-great-grandfather
-she also does freelance consulting for law enforcement and medical professionals (and others, anyone, really) using her quirk, but her fees are extortionate. in order to use her quirk, she has to maintain a hero license. yes she takes that fuckass exam every few years.
-when she first met her husband, he annoyed her to the point of wanting to kill him. frequently. he was aware of this, but thought she was hot and that it was cute, and eventually he did successfully woo her. they are passionately in love. nobody really understands it.
-her family was displeased with her choice in spouse, but ayano threatening to elope was enough to bluff them out into dealing with it
-she is constantly in relentless pursuit of the bag. she never works for free.
-she has a constantly serene, even sometimes demure demeanor, but will say some absolutely heinous shit and is an obsessive control freak. she just also has control over her emoting :).
-she doesnt have a maternal bone in her body, not really, but in a way, she's showing her love by working to secure a future for her children where no matter what they do, no matter when or how she leaves their lives for whatever reason, they can live well. after all, she had to rebuild from the skeleton of her family fortune herself
-as a child, she was in quirk counseling. it was not good, but she does not register it as such. because of her quirk, she began making arrangements early to get quirk specialists for her own children.
-shes got a few oddities of her own: including a habit of counting time to the second and a love of chemistry.
-she doesnt really care about what her children do so long as it doesnt jeopardize their reputation/futures/inheritance/etc. shes more of an omnipresent governing force than a helicopter parent.
-she can be severely vindictive. a grudge can and will lasts years. she will get her revenge at some point. unfortunately this can also be seen with how she chooses to punish her children.
-the household is run on a language of passive aggressiveness.
-she never saw toga as a member of her family and regarded her as one of many "just dont make it my problem" things, and when she became a problem, she was more than willing to cut ties and eliminate any connection past or present to said problem.
actual quote from ayano monoma 1/ 58494084080348 : "I don't want to make the world a better place, I want to make money, because I believe in real life and not the tooth fairy."
bonus: ayano, 10 years ago [vaguely au also]
annnnnnd a bonus NSFW:
she and her husband are swingers. their extra partners are never allowed in the main house, but man, that shit gets weird and psychosexual REAL fast
shes a hard dom, if you were curious.

Since I’m bored and if you’re curious about the blogger behind the blog…
1. I have three tattoos and want more. My tattoos are actually based on flower language and have meanings based on the flowers in them. I want to get a large back piece next.
2. Fave color is purple!
3. Gluten free pop tart and coffee was my last meal. Ya girl is gluten-intolerant.
4. It’s currently mid-morning.
5. Aries
6. Not a movie, but Over The Garden Wall
7. Hmm, I don’t think I really have one? I actually mostly read. I don’t own a tv and I’m not a person that rewatches stuff. Though this is an MHA blog so maybe I should say that 😂
8. I’d like something akin to a commitment ceremony with tailored legal agreements for property division/medical power/etc. But I don’t want to get legally married since I don’t like how the US marriage laws are setup. I want separate finances and I’m childfree so there’s no real need to commingle interests. Also I’m an atheist so no religious reason to marry.
9. ESTJ
10. I really liked Scottish accents when I went.
11. Yes, I have a few scars from a bad burn. But they’re not noticeable unless you know they’re there. A teapot of boiling water fell into my lap and I got second degree burns 😅 it healed fine tho
12. Yes, my real name is very unique. The blog name is based off one of my tattoo flowers.
13. My apartment very much resembles a dark academia-esque library.
14. My real name translates to the meaning “nobility and grace”
15. I got my Bachelors in Microbiology in 2017 and my Masters in Epidemiology in 2019. I was actually top of my class and president of multiple student organizations, but would go back for a PhD over my dead body (everybody was kinda shocked that I didn’t). Unfortunately, I came up through a very harsh/toxic academic culture in STEM. I don’t miss it.
16. Lol no, I tried to get my ears pierced as a preteen and turns out I’m allergic to like everything. So I can’t have piercings. I can wear cuff earrings though.
17. Blue eyed 🧿
18. Generally whatever is easiest? I tend to grow it out long in the winter and chop it short again in the spring into a bob.
19. Well, my family let us drink wine/champagne with them as teenagers, but I don’t think I officially went out and got drunk with friends until my 21st bday. I volunteered at a STEM outreach for high schoolers the next day hungover for the first time because I wanted extra points on my immunology exam lol
20. Yes, the most drunk I ever was resulted in me telling my friend that she was a beautiful mermaid. I tend to just compliment people and laugh a lot.
21. I fear the unlived life. Also, spiders.
22. Would rather be too cold. I live in a hot place and blehhh
23. I like chilly weather. The crisp and cozy kind of cold.
24. Fall 🍁
25. Cats!
26. I have two kitties, both rescues. I adore them. One of them meeps like the roadrunner instead of meowing. 🐱
27. I have an inherited sleep disorder so the answer is a whopping two days without sleep. Thankfully the meds I’m on now regulate sleep pretty well.
28. Tennis, rock climbing, reading, traveling, drawing, writing, cooking, learning about history
29. Literally everywhere. I’ve been to 18 countries and my goal is to hit 20 by age 30. Trying to decide if I should do Costa Rica or the Nordic countries next.
30. Maybe flight prices are my most googled?
31. Podcast app
32. Definitely a city person, although I like to go hiking/do nature activities. I just wouldn’t want to live in a rural area bc I would get bored.
Get To Know Me !
Again, idk why I made this but enjoy I guess (some of these may be uncomfortable for y’all to answer, idk).

Passion bloom .. risk taker
Fashion is a big part of my life. I love clothes, designer clothes and design and colour and texture and history and wearing it.
It goes into the bucket of all the things I dreamed of being part of doing and wearing ... and ticking off.
And it was a huge undertaking steering my life into it.
Imagine you are in your 20s, you have followed mostly science for your whole life, got into on of the top science unis, graduated with not the best degree but still did in one of the hardest science degrees, and got into a career in database programming in the city - mostly financial services. All your mates were in city, tech or science related jobs. It had afforded you to buy your own place.
And you wanted to do fashion.
What would you do ? How would you do it ?
That's where I was at 28. And through all my short courses I managed to get a portfolio together to get into one of the best fashion colleges. And then pushed myself into sustainable fashion whilst doing my fashion degree - where I pushed myself to get the highest mark of the year in my marketing module and created the only sustainable fashion collection of my year for the catwalk. Risk.
Tick.
And then another design degree .. a masters at central saint Martin's and came top of my year. While renovating houses and travelling the world. Risk.
Tick.
By the way people do degrees to meet people, express yourself and generally have fun. It's a fun thing to do. I would recommend it to anyone at any age. Risk.
Tick.
Probably hard work. Probably not a normal brain. No normie certainly could have done this.
In fact one thing Julian said was that ... whatever you do never ever change the way your brain works. Do not take medication. Bushra your brain fell out of the not normal brain tree and hit ever branch... but that's what makes it special. It did however mean he had to look after the admin, the finances and the practical domestic stuff. He would joke he was my carer.
It worked. Until I had miscarriages in my late 30s which definitely set me back - I then felt real sadness. This led finally to becoming a mother and having a step change while Persia was little.
But I was still going full force till the stupid stalker situation & my mum dying. But then I dealt with it exactly as I should have done .. well ... I pushed myself out of grief and in my late 40s managed to become a police woman and arrested criminals. I mean who the hell decides to deal with a stalker by actually becoming a policewoman. It's like out of a movie.
Risk.
Tick
And then I pushed myself to do 6 travelogue issues of my metaverse magazine visiting countries during covid. Risk.
Tick.
And then I pushed myself again to go to web3 events internationally and made sure people knew who I was. A nobody. It was a risk.
Tick.
And then I pushed myself to setup a social impact company despite my father dying and going through a divorce and moving house and dating the crazy crypto king. Living and working together.....RISK.
Tick.
And then I pushed myself to establish governance and social impact ... in the crypto world .... name one other person in the industry who has done that. I said this straight to face. Not through other people. But me to the face of THE crypto king. Risk.
Tick.
And then I pushed myself to again travel to different countries to understand what was needed. Risk.
Tick.
And then I did not push myself but I got a pull to the middle-east, fasted, prayed ... like a miracle ... kicked my stalker to the kerb.
Tick. Tick. Tick.
And got to try on and buy some of the most of beautiful clothes I have ever seen in both UAE and Saudi Arabia. I honestly felt like the little girl who dreamed this when I was 10years old.
And then I pushed myself to restart my metaverse blog. Risk.
Tick.
And now just like that without having to do anything, my other stalker just disappeared into thin air. Risk.
my life might be a movie.
Tick.
Just like magic.
Abracadabra.

He's a severe hypochondriac and a germaphobe.
British accent.
He is very tall.
Has a medical degree and is a licensed doctor but won't use his skills.
Refuses to help sick and injured people due to his own personal trauma and aversion to germs and illness.
Due to not allowing himself to be exposed to sicknesses, his immune system has weakened over the years, and when he does get sick, it can be life-threatening.
Has an older sister named Janile, who works as a biochemist.
Despite being almost 30, he's aged from stress to the point he already has grey hair and looks twice his age.
Is allergic to dirt.
Ex-boyfriend to Saga Lenvire.
His germaphobia and hypochondria was way less severe before he met him.
Saga would purposely trigger Veirium, 'accidentally' wiping dirt on him, shoving him into mud, handing him dusty, dirty, or otherwise unclean objects, covering him in dust, and using his cloak to clean things before giving it back to him. He also was a manipulative gasligher who loved to make Veirium feel insane, influencing him to do detrimental things before turning around and blaming him for it, claiming that he never told him to do so. He was also someone who made Veirium believe he was constantly ill, driving him to over-medicate and harm himself to try to fix illnesses that weren't there, only for Saga to reprimand him for it.
Saga intentionally made Veirium's entire town sick, instantly pressuring and pushing him to make a cure, behind the guise of being supportive of him and worried for everyone. Behind Veirium's back, he tampered with the cure, before hounding him to release it unfinished, and despite his apprehensions, ultimately ending up in him doing so, which led to the death of the entire town, including Veirium's family outside of his older sister.
Saga ended up leaving Veirium in the aftermath with a note blaming him for everything that had happened, and Veirium swamped with the trauma and guilt of believing he caused the death of everyone in his hometown, refused to use his skills to help anyone medically ever again, out of fear that he'd once again end up killing someone.
The situation left him with not only massive amounts of trauma but his relationship with Saga had caused his hypochondria and germaphobia to become borderline crippling.
To this day, that guilt still hangs on his shoulders.
Veirium will clean every surface possible, he always carries cleansing supplies with him and despite wearing gloves, won't touch anything unless it's been thoroughly cleaned, and his definition of thoroughly clean means not being able to see a molecule of dust or grime on it.
He often deprives himself of sleep in favor of compulsively cleaning.
His eyesight isn't the best, therefore, he wears glasses.
Other than for washing it on a regular basis, Veirium doesn't like taking off his cloak, as he feels safe and protected when wearing it, unless it's dirty. But just in-case, he also wears a mask aswell.
He carries pepper spray for protective reasons, especially because he doesn't like people getting too close to him.
If you cough or sneeze in his presence, he will spontaneously combust.
He has a habit of taking things way too far when it comes to his health, he's one to resort to drastic measures if he believes he's ill or infected and isn't above trying to cut off his own body parts or cut his body open in general to attempt to remove whatever he believes is ailing him. In his mind, that's the only way to fix things.
Despite having a medical degree and being good at his job when working with other people, when it comes to himself, he throws everything out the window in favor of panicking. Due to his knowledge of medicine, he's quick to just down medication he doesn't need if he believes it's necessary.
He used to have long hair but ended up cutting it short and slicking it back due to long hair attracting more germs.
He is a complete shut-in and barely goes outside of his house for anything.
He is often confused for being a plague doctor.
Like a standard doctor, he has horrible writing abilities, and despite saying it's perfectly legible, it is indeed not.

Ben 10 lore that exists in my heart regardless of canon
- Ben’s personality in his mid-late teens is a mix of his Alien Force and Omniverse self. On the surface, he’s very cheerful and kind even if he is a bit of arrogant showoff. He makes jokes and plays around and acts as if he isn’t bothered by the things in his life. Those who know him best understand a good portion of his outward confidence and cockiness is just a facade to cover up his insecurities and to project the ideal, effortless hero. While sometimes seen as immature, most beings know Ben 10 means business as he takes his unofficial job and people’s safety very seriously. He’s clever, adaptable, charismatic and empathetic which makes him a formidable opponent and a loyal friend. Doesn’t open up easily but if you get to him, he become so dearly attached.
- Drinks smoothies so much for several reasons. Comfort food go brrr, reminds him of the good easy times with him Gwen and Kev. It’s also a light but generally nutritous food to give him energy for heroing. Anything too heavy and he’ll be puking (both from physical and emotional stress). Though he jokes about his mom’s health foods, his are a crazy concoction of add in proteins and vitamins/minerals bc he knows he’ll out and out collapse without it. (Still has on occasion bc boy still doesn’t eat right/enough)
- While Fame is exciting for him at first he soon begins to detest it. Not the fans, no, he can’t bring himself to hate the people who look up to him. But he hates the constant attention, that he can’t walk outside without being mobbed. the only place he feels safe is his hometown where most people are so used to him and his weirdness that they don’t react much anymore. Takes to wearing a cape and face shield when going out anywhere so he can actually get things done without being recognized and mobbed.
- Part of the reason Bellwood isn’t concerned with Ben is partially because ben’s been weird and alien for as long as they can remember but also many don’t realize how famous/powerful he is. Yeah that’s just Ben Tennyson over there, sometimes he turns into funny creatures- wait what do you MEAN he’s the savior of the universe?? He cried over a spilled smoothie the other day.
- Does mostly online schooling by the time he’s 15. At first he tries to do half day things to maintain something of a normal life but it quickly becomes overwhelming and dangerous him/the school. Finishes his GED early but the Plumbers and Azmuth make him take additional college level and alien courses to prepare him for his future role. Ben gripes but really does love learning all these things, especially on his terms (ADHD and stress + the public school system do not always go hand in hand). He’s a quick learner when he deems the information important and is made accessible to his learning needs.
- Ben definitely has ADHD speaking of which, it was nearly uncontrollable as a child bc his free-spirited parents didn’t believe in medicating. Ben convinced them he needed it and after some trial and error, found meds that worked. As he became more involved in heroics/growing up he had to change his medicine regimen (resulting in him being a bit more off the rails in OV) and needed antidepressants and therapy to manage it better. As an adult he has a whole litany of coping mechanisms (good and bad yes) and regularly checks in with his therapist and doctors to keep things under control.
- Has a complicated relationship with his necrofriggian children. Considers himself their mother and worries after them. They too feel a connection to their parent despite this being unusual for their species. A few visit (some more than others) while they grow while others maintain distance. Ben never breathes a word of them to the media for fear of them being targeted. Still he keeps an eye on them and ensures all 14 mature to adulthood (another rarity for the species). Checks in every now and again with the ones who don’t want to see him and those that do. Two join the Plumbers and Ben is both proud and worried. His youngest becomes partners with Rook Ben.
- Just in general loves kids, they’re his favorite fans and while he’ll grumble at pushy adult fans he always smiles and kneels down for the little ones. Not so secretly wanted to have children of his own but knew it was a risk overall and used a lot of that energy with mentoring and teaching. Eventually had Kenny later in life (late 30s-40s) and was over the moon, becoming such a loving and doing parent or as much as he could be with his hectic schedule.
- Omnitrix can’t come off, never has at any point since it first latched onto Ben’s arm. Azmuth tried and failed to get the device off, doesn’t let Ben know for many years as he feared the consequences. The watch loves and protects Ben even beyond it’s programming making him much more durable to damage and releasing energy charges when he’s threatened. Not even removing Ben’s arm would separate them. They’re stuck for life.
- Ben does have Anodite heritage but the Omnitrix actively suppresses it and uses the built up energy to power the transformations which is why ben is mostly unaffected by what should cause a massive energy drain on him. Theoretically if Ben learned to harness and safely use his Mana at an early age like Gwen he would have been fine but letting it build up without safe outlet meant activation would have killed him. Omnitrix Ben, however, went his whole life not knowing of his latent abilities and how the watch saved his life.
- Ben’s eyes get more green and glowy as time passes from the Omnitrix. At first they think its a trick of the light but by the time he’s an adult his eyes are pretty much glow in the dark. His veins light up too after long stretches of using the Omnitrix. Its vaguely unsettling to people who aren’t used to Ben.
- Max and the Earth Plumbers work so, so hard to keep teen Ben on Earth when half the universe is blowing up their comm lines asking for The Ben 10 to help with whatever problem of the day. Ben himself doesn’t quite understand when he’s younger the prestige and expectations on his shoulders. Max throws up a million and one roadblocks so Ben can live as normal a life as possible while he still can. Still, while doing that he Still overloads Ben with expectations and responsibilities on earth and beyond. He becomes a soldier again with Ben as their greatest weapon. He never forgave himself of losing sight of his grandson underneath the hero esp after Ben’s breakdown.
- Rook partnership with Ben ends not long after Omniverse with his promotion to Magister. Ben tries to play it cool but the thought of another loved one/teammate leaving his tears him apart. Max revealing that Ben most likely wouldn’t get a new Plumber assigned partner since he’s almost an adult and won’t need it and Rook accidentally missing their last smoothie run due to a scheduling mishap causes Ben to snap and have the nervous breakdown that had been building for almost a decade. He completely loses it for a little while and needs to take an extended leave of absence from school and heroics that lasts about a year. Spends time recovering both on Earth and Galvan Prime, does some diplomatic training, learns about aliens, actually confronts the stress and loneliness of his life. He comes out the other side stronger but still fragile and exhausted.
- Ben’s above mentioned breakdown brings him closer to all his friends who didn’t quite realize the extent of Ben’s burden. Rook had been under the impression Ben didn’t like him all that much so the knowledge that his departure was the final straw for friend/hero’s collapse was shocking. Ben and Azmuth also become closer, the Galvan becoming fiercely protective of the boy seeing as his Earth family didn’t do well to keep him safe. It takes years for him to get over his anger at Max for putting so much on his grandchild. Ben makes more friends, in and out of the hero business, finally gets a therapist and gets some of his burdens eased a bit. It’s not a sure fire fix and Ben has several smaller breakdowns the rest of his life but its something.
- Azmuth was straight up suicidal before he met Ben for the first time. Ben gave him back hope for the universe and his ability to create items for peace not weapons. The boy infuriates him, frightens him, frustrates him but Azmuth cannot deny in his heart of hearts that he loves Ben dearly. He’s very upset at Ben’s breakdown and doesn’t know how to handle the worst of the initail outbursts. Azmuth talks Ben down from a suicide attempt. He reaches out to Ben that he Too felt overwhelmed by pressure, thought himself only good for war. Ben’s arrival in his life saved him and now he will do the same for Ben. It’s the first positive step forward in Ben’s recovery.
- For no other reason than I like it, Azmuth primarily refers to Ben as Benjamin (mostly to annoy the kid but he likes the way it sounds too) and Ben in softer, more serious moments.
- Professor Paradox continues to flit in and out of Ben’s life. He says its because Ben is the most equipped to handle universal peril (true) but he’s also just very fond of the boy. Ben, existing in so many forms and having such importance also exists a beat outside of normal reality which Paradox identifies with. Ben is naturally attuned to time related problems because of this (instantly IDing Spanner as from the future before being told later deducing him to be his unborn son). Plus Ben named him, way back when. He’s just drawn to Ben.
- Adult Ben, while being seen as an impressively skilled fighter and champion, really has his strength as a universal diplomat of sorts. Based out of Earth, he helps mediate and defuse conflicts, advocate against tyranny and overall preserve peace and balance. He’s not perfect, he makes mistakes and sometimes is forced to become violent (and yes kill) but overall is regarded as a peacekeeper, something younger ben simply couldn’t understand.
- Gwen gets her degree and primarily does work with advocacy and teaching about magic/alien culture. While she and Ben are still close, there’s a bit of a frustrated divide in that she isn’t helping him share the burden of the universe. Gwen never wanted to be a hero and has enough worth to not shackle herself to a job that’ll burn her out. Ben loves heroing but gives too much of himself away trying to fix everything. They get into screaming arguments that it wouldn’t be so bad out there if she just helped him but she refuses to budge and says he shouldn’t make himself do so much. They always make up and thy still are each other’s closest relationships.
- Ben marries Kai in a political move, Kai is Asexual and Ben Aromantic. They didn’t love each other but they got on well enough and Ben was really feeling the stress of carrying the hero burden so Kai also being involved made him feel like he wasn’t alone. Both were also so tired of the universe constantly asking about their love life and said ‘fuck it we’re married leave us alone’. Gwen was always mad about it feeling Ben deserved better but the two of them were happy with it. They had separate rooms, mostly separate lives but they became strong friends and supports with their strictly platonic marriage. They had Ken via Invitro in an incubator and were loving if extremely busy parents.
- Also from the moment he appeared, Ben knew that Spanner was his future son, Kenny. He played ignorant and then was kind of deliberately teasing him in future encounters. He knew the rules of time and didn’t want to disrupt things further even if he was angry and worried as heck about why Ken felt the need to time travel. When future Ben catches up in the timeline, Kenny gets SUCH a lecture.
- Ben isn’t quite immortal but he’s also not entirely human anymore either. The Omnitrix not only keeps him safe from most harm but it lightens the effect of aging. Ben 10 is active many, many years when most humans would have been forced to retire. He’s not sure how long the watch will keep him alive and it terrifies him. Gwen too is functionally immortal however she ages like a normal human, then when her natural death came, shed her skin and became a fulltime Anodite. So in the end, it was her and Ben together wondering which of them will die first. Gwen has trouble retaining her humanity as pure energy and swears she’ll let herself fizzle out when Ben goes. When that’ll be however...

OG 911 Character Details from Canon Pt 2
Hi y’all I’m back! I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who reblogged the last details post - I sort of just thought people would like it and it would die, so to see it travel and hopefully reach more writers was so great so thank you again!
Details under the cut since I went a little crazy 😅 and if this is your first time seeing this, the first part, and any future parts, can be found under this tag here!
Quick note before I get to the details - always, ALWAYS take details from dialogue or plot over details from the set or props if they contradict each other. The writers have the ultimate say over what happens on the show/for the characters, so whatever they say goes, even if it goes against something props has already laid down (eg, Chim’s birthday, sorry Libra crew. He’s an Aries or a Pisces). So keep that in mind for the future in case some of these details I have which are from props/set are changed in the future, or if you’ve noticed something yourself!
Also if you have questions, I am MORE than happy to answer them, although if you leave them in the tags on this post I’m probably gonna lose them, so if it’s something you’d genuinely like an answer to, drop it in my inbox! Besides my standard “ask” tags, I’m also tagging asks about canon details with this tag here. Every time I make a big post like this, I’m going to link all the asks I’ve gotten since the last post, but if you’re looking for more info in the mean time, that’s the other spot to look!
Buck has a grill on his patio.
Eddie doesn’t hang Christopher’s art on the fridge - instead it is either hung on the corkboard in Chris’ room to the left of the door, or Eddie puts it in an actual frame and hangs it using a hammer/nails in Christopher’s room. All the Diaz family has on their fridge is a bunch of bendy people magnets. (I absolutely ADORE him putting all this effort into treating Christopher’s art like it’s something you’d buy from a professional artist).
Info on everyone’s ages can be found here. (Little more discussion of Chim’s situation here).
Albert has a bachelor’s degree! I don’t know in what though, except that it’s some field for which is a Master’s is useful.
Athena was in a sorority in college, Delta Sigma Theta. Their website describes them as “ ...a sisterhood comprised primarily of Black, college-educated women ... [that] considers the issues impacting the Black community and boldly confronts the challenges of African Americans and, hence, all Americans ”, which I love for Athena, and feel is very in-character for her at that time in her life!
Chim is an aviators dude. When he wears sunglasses, they’re always aviators.
Athena also wears nothing but aviators.
Bobby wears square aviators.
Eddie, on the other hand, always wears Wayfarers.
Buck either doesn’t really like sunglasses or he constantly forgets he owns them, since we’ve only seen him wear them once in 60 eps, in a move I’m pretty sure was ONLY for dramatic effect.
Hen’s sunglasses change style over the seasons like her regular glasses do, but she tends to like browline sunglasses.
Info on Christopher’s school can be found here!
There are two colors of dispatch polo, and there doesn’t seem to be any rhythm or reason for who wears what. Maroon - Maddie and Linda. Blue - Josh and May. Jamal has actually worn both maroon and blue, so it doesn’t seem to be TOTALLY set in stone although I’ve never seen anyone else switch. Sue is too badass to wear a dispatch shirt.
Both Bobby and Eddie drive 4 door pickups. Bobby’s is navy. Eddie specifically has a black, 2020 GMC Denali 1500 pickup truck (in case you want to specifically look up what the inside of it looks like or what features it has 😂)
Info on the 118’s medical certifications can be found here.
Correction to Eddie’s living situation from last post: no next door neighbors, but instead UPSTAIRS neighbors. (Pointed out by Abigail in this ask). Also since someone else was wondering the notes of the last post - no, there is absolutely no discussion on the show of whether or not Eddie rents the apartment or owns it. But based on the fact that it’s 1) LA and 2) an apartment, my guess would be he rents it.
When Maddie isn’t feeling like herself, she tends to straighten her hair rather than curl it. It seems to be more when she’s uncertain about her place in her own and other people’s lives, rather than just when she’s simply worried - eg it’s straight in 2B, when she’s uncertain if she wants to continue working as a dispatcher/is unsure about her relationship with Chim.
For work, Chim, Eddie and Buck all use black duffel bags with a LAFD patch on the top. Hen uses several different cute bags, and Bobby seems to have a plain black duffel bag.
Watches - Bobby, Athena, Chim, Hen and Buck all wear their watch on their left wrist (but Athena ONLY wears hers for work, she takes it off at home.) Eddie wears his on his right wrist, and Maddie doesn’t wear one.
Chim (and Maddie by default) literally still have the exact same couch as in the pilot. (Which means that Chim has cuddled Tatiana on that couch, AND Albert has had sex on it. TIME TO GET A NEW ONE, BUCKLEY-HANS 😂)
The 118 has five different rigs - the engine (E118), the ladder truck (T118), two ambulances and the captain’s truck. 95% of the time, when the team is chilling in the cab of a rig and chatting (eg the ‘stuck under a live telephone pole’ scene in Jinx), they’re in the engine, not the truck. (Which I personally learned recently are NOT interchangeable terms!)
Athena and Michael got married when Athena was 37.
If you’d like to give Maddie a full name beyond “Maddie”, you should use Madeline. (I know, I know, in 4x04 she says Maddie is the name on her birth certificate, and that you should never use props details if they contradict script details, but I always thought that was a super weird exchange in 4x04 which could be explained by Maddie getting a nickname since she was born when Margaret and Phillip, you know, actually loved their kids and showed it, so of course Buck doesn’t get one, and in 4x04, Maddie was trying to avoid the entire issue of why she got one and Buck didn’t. But! Do what you want, and use Madeline as the full version of Maddie if you’d like, since that’s what’s on the BOLO in 2x13 😂)
Athena’s call sign is 727 L30, but she doesn’t have a specific squad car - the number changes throughout the series.
Chim really likes chewing gum, but he’s the only one out of the entire family!
The station has an Xbox One S, and it’s white.
In the real LAFD, there are stations 1 through 114. To avoid confusion while filming on the streets (I’m assuming), our fictional LAFD never uses the number of a real station. So if you want another station for a fic, and you want something that would be real in OUR universe, use the numbers 115 and above. They’ve gone as high as 221 in our universe.
Battalions - station 118 is in Battalion 7, which is also not a battalion in real Los Angeles. The 118 has interacted w/ Battalion 1, which is a real battalion, but other ‘non-real which makes them more likely for our universe’ battalions include numbers: 3, 8, 13, 16, 19 and above.
S1 Buck knew the term Jedi, but based on context, didn’t understand AT ALL the context provided by Star Wars, so there’s another edge of his pop culture limits for you.
Chim is the most tech-savvy out of everyone, hands down.
Athena has a VERY active Twitter account.
Abuela’s house number is 8902. I don’t have a street name for you unfortunately though. :/
Athena’s favorite flowers are white roses. None of the other women are really flower people.
Michael likes to wear purple.
When they’re at a call, Buck does pretty much all of the stuff with the hammer and the saw. Eddie does all the work needed with the drill.
Harry goes to Meadowbrook Elementary.
Buck lives on the fourth floor of his apartment building, across the hall from Apt. 416. The lovely @lovelessmotel found this listing for what is more or less the apartment. What happened was: the set crew rented this apartment for the one episode at the end of s2 when Buck moved in, and then over the summer before s3 built their own set of it, and changed some things - eg giving him an island, and moving the sink to a second counter against the far wall, you can see the changes here in this amazing gif set by the awesome Austen, but the listing should let you click around a little more upstairs and figure out dimensions better than what the show provides!
When Athena and Hen go out to eat together, it’s always fast food burgers and fries.
Waffles are Athena’s favorite food, and tiramisu is her favorite dessert.
Every takeout we’ve seen Buck eat has always been in a Chinese food takeout container, and we know he likes Thai food the best. EXCEPT! The one time we see him eat takeout with Eddie and Christopher, they have pizza. So take from that what you will......
Eddie has a cell phone and a landline.
Chim is a shameless multiple texter.
Chim and Bobby sleep closest to the door in their respective bedrooms (both right side of the bed if you are standing at the foot, facing the headboard), and Athena and Maddie sleep furthest away from the door (left side).
Some canon last names for other firefighters at the station in case you wanna add more people to a fic - Mitchell, Sanchez, Serrano (woman), Porter, Meyers (woman), Maxwell, Voyta
Hen and Karen really love decorating their house with dark/red wood.
Karen is Mommy and Hen is Mama.
Bobby has a brother, and a grandmother, and that’s literally ALL we know about his family outside of Marcy and the kids.
Evidence points to Eddie being the oldest child in his family.
Karen has multiple brothers (no sisters), but no idea how many - just that one of them is named Trey, and one of them lives in LA and has kids. They might be the same brother and they might not be.
Both Hen and Athena are only children.
Athena has been on the police force for 30 years.
Christopher and Denny are the same age (born in 2011), and Harry is two years older than them.
Michael lives in apartment 308.
The bank in this universe is CalAm.
Hen and Karen have a picture of Denny, May and Harry on their fireplace mantel.
Eddie having a black thumb + a lot of plants in his living room = him buying fake plants bc he likes the aesthetic ™ or someone (cough Carla cough) is taking care of them for him.
The COVID timeline in OG’s universe is fucked up compared to the real world’s, so it shouldn’t be used as a way to measure time! They just throw it in wherever it makes sense for the story they want to tell (eg the vaccines in s4 ep 8), since s3 was both done before COVID hit but also airing while it was happening. It makes absolutely no sense for May to graduate in March nor for Chris to be going to what is specifically labeled summer camp, and the vaccine plotline was INCREDIBLY early, even for real life, so don’t use anything from that as a measure of time. I’ve found except in specific examples, eg the two tsunami episodes, it’s very safe to say every episode covers a week - fall holidays on the show line up with their real life counterparts, indicating about the same amount of time is passing for us and them.
On that note - Jee-Yun was born in late January, early February 2021. (Conceived in Pinned, which was end of March/beginning of April, meaning Maddie was around a month along at May’s graduation in May ➡ 42 weeks + 3 days from then = late Jan/early Feb. Which unfortunately means we most likely won’t see her birthday celebrated on screen. If we assume she was conceived on the date Pinned aired, aka the very sexy hotel scene, then January 21st or 22nd would be Jee’s birthday, depending on if she was born after midnight or not.
Buck has had at least one other Jeep between the one Maddie gave him, and the one he has now, which means that when he needs a new car, he is purposefully choosing Jeeps.
I hope this was all as interesting/enjoyable to you as it was to me! And just to repeat - I love answering questions so pls let me know if you have any at all ❤

The other day I saw sir Thomas said Chloé isn't a child of abuse, I think it was as responses to toxic Chloé Stan. My question is, does France consider neglect as part of abuse or it has a different territory? From one article that I found on Google they definite neglect as :
"State laws often define neglect as the failure of a parent or caregiver to provide needed food, shelter, clothing, medical care, or supervision to the degree that a child's health, safety, and well-being are threatened with harm"
And sir Thomas answer did fit that descriptiom because as far as I can remember, Chloé is never deprived any of those thing... And so does Adrien, that's why I confused. Is Chloé a child of abuse? If yes, what's make her situation is different than Adrien?
I'm sorry if my question doesn't make senses, I'm not a native English speaker. 🙏
Heya!!
I think the definition you found is incomplete, or lacking the "psychology" aspect of neglect to focus only on the physical one 😉 or that you didn't notice that the "failure to provide supervision to the degree that a child's well-being is threatened" was exactly what Chloé and Adrien were not getting from Audrey and Gabriel.
Because psychological abuse/violences and neglect (including lack of attention given to the child) are very much punished by law and included in what is considered abuse here!
The world health organization describes child maltreatment as such:
Child maltreatment is the abuse and neglect that occurs to children under 18 years of age. It includes all types of physical and/or emotional ill-treatment, sexual abuse, neglect, negligence and commercial or other exploitation, which results in actual or potential harm to the child’s health, survival, development or dignity in the context of a relationship of responsibility, trust or power.
If I look at the "ministère des solidarités et de la santé" website (ministry of solidarities and health), on the topic of "what's child mistreatment?" where they quote the definition I just gave you above to define child abuse, this is what is being said regarding psychological abuse and neglect (you'll have to excuse my use of a translator here, hope it makes sense):
Psychological violences:
Psychological violence, which is less well known and perhaps more difficult to identify than physical violence, is never harmless, especially when the victim is a child.
Emotional and relational security is one of the fundamental needs of a child (1). Insults or disparaging remarks, humiliation, threats, intimidation, etc. are thus part of the field of child abuse.
What law says about this: The penal code punishes violence whatever its nature, and punishes it with the same penalties even if it is psychological violence.
And since it's the same kind of penalties as physical violences, here is what they say about physical violences punishment to give you an idea:
Victim under 15 years old · Violence (habitual or isolated) against a minor under 15 years of age committed by his father, mother, grandparents or any person having authority over him is punishable by up to :
30 years in prison when they lead to the death of the victim;
20 years of imprisonment when it has resulted in permanent disability;
10 years of imprisonment and a fine of 150 000 € when they are the cause of serious injuries;
5 years in prison and 75 000 € fine when the injuries are less serious.
Victim over 15 years old · Violence (habitual or isolated) committed on a minor over 15 years of age by his or her father or mother is punishable by up to :
15 years in prison when it results in permanent disability;
5 years in prison and a fine of 75 000 €, when they cause serious injury;
3 years in prison and 45 000 € fine when the injuries are less serious.
Neglect
Neglect is when the person responsible for the child (parents, grandparents, etc.) deprives the child of elements that are essential to his or her proper development and well-being. It can be for example deprivation of food, sleep, care, attention... Neglect is thus a form of abuse by omission, namely the absence of mobilization of the adult on whom the present and the future of the child depend. Invisible and often forgotten, neglect nevertheless has a bearing on the child's survival, security, awareness, self-esteem and education (1).
Neglect may not be intentional, but it does put the child at risk, and as such, it falls under the category of abuse and must be reported.
And what law says about neglect is this: The fact that a parent or the holder of parental authority deprives a child of food or care to the point of compromising his or her health is punishable by 7 years imprisonment and a fine of 100,000 euros.
All of this to go back to Chloé and Adrien in ML:
Chloé is neglected by her mother, as she doesn't provide her care and attention. Chloé is however not neglected by her father, as he's providing her everything she needs, as well as care and attention - the fact that he lets Chloé do whatever she wants and that he does whatever Chloé wants is more a problem of child education than anything else.
Chloé is also psychologically abused by her mother, as she's being insulted, humiliated, getting disparaged remarks, etc., by her. She is however not psychologically abused by her father.
Though one could still question André's lack of actions regarding the way she's being treated by Audrey - something that becomes complicated as he himself is being mistreated by his wife, but as the adult in the situation, I would say (keep in mind that I'm in no way a lawyer or working into the legal system so this is me purely 100% speculating here) that it still gives him a certain responsibility over it.
I'm not sure why Thomas denied Chloé's abuse as he did, unless he considers that her father alone makes up for her mother's misdeeds, but I don't think that's how it works 😅
I won't expand on the case of Adrien as it's been done countless of times and as it's obvious he's also very much abused, both psychologically and neglectfully (and maybe more if Chat Blanc is anything to go by)

[Spoiler] talks with The Hollywood Reporter about his return to the ABC medical drama and why the surprising reunion with Chyler Leigh had to be filmed via green screen.
[This story contains spoilers from the April 1 "Breathe" episode of Grey's Anatomy.]
The magical beach on Grey's Anatomy just delivered a double surprise.
Viewers knew that Chyler Leigh would be returning to reprise her role as Meredith's younger half-sister, Lexie Grey, but she wasn't the only former star who came back on the show's magical beach. Eric Dane, in a surprise appearance, returned to reprise his role as Lexie's on-screen love interest, Mark Sloan.
Both Dane and Leigh appeared together on the beach as part of a central storyline as Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) continues to battle COVID-19. Dane and Leigh become the latest former stars to return to Grey's Anatomy this season, joining Patrick Dempsey (Derek) and T.R. Knight (George) as the Shonda Rhimes-produced ABC drama continues to focus on the impact of the pandemic on the medical community.
Dane and Leigh's Mark and Lexie appeared for the first time since the season eight finale. That episode featured Lexie telling Mark that they were meant to be as she died from injuries sustained in a plane crash. Mark, meanwhile, was killed off in the season nine premiere as Dane left the series to pursue TNT's The Last Ship.
Below, Dane talks with The Hollywood Reporter about providing closure to Mark and Lexie's love story, being part of Meredith's big storyline — she's now off the vent and breathing on her own — and why his reunion with Leigh had to be filmed via green screen.
What was the pitch to come back? Had you seen that Patrick Dempsey had come back and wonder if you were going to get a call?
No, I hadn't. I was in Shanghai, China, when Krista Vernoff reached out and said, "I have an idea." She texted me. I said, "Well, I'm in Shanghai, of all places. And I'd love to hear your idea. Give me a couple weeks to clear quarantine and I'll find you." And she says, "How would you feel about coming back? I don't know if you've seen what's going on, but Meredith is in this coma in a fever dream from covid. And she's seeing all her friends on a beach." And I said, "Well, that kind of makes sense. Yeah, sure, let's do it."
Was the pitch for both you and Chyler to return the same episode
Absolutely.
What was it like reuniting with Chyler after all these years?
It feels like I never left. It was very comfortable and very easy, and it was so nice to see a lot of the same faces with the crew. It's a role that always fit for me, like one of those great old t-shirts. And it was just like putting the t-shirt back on and hanging out on a beach for a couple days, and catching up with some old friends.
Did you actually film with Chyler? She's a regular on a show that films in Vancouver, which would have meant she had to quarantine in the middle of Supergirl production to film this.
Chyler was in Vancouver. So we had to work some magic. Chyler could get here but then she couldn't get back to Canada. There was some green screen. There was a lot of me and Ellen. And Ellen an eye line.
Were you bummed that the logistics didn't work out for you and Chyler physically share a scene together again after so long?
Yeah. I'm honestly bummed you even asked me that because I wanted to sell the myths of us actually being on screen together in person. But don't take it personally. It's OK, you're doing your job. But Ellen and I see each other every now and again, Justin [Chambers] and I see each other every now and again. I spent so much of my life with these guys. When you see them again, it's not a big, "Oh my God, what have you done?" It's like, nobody skips a beat. It's just, everything kind of fit. It fit then; it still fits.
What did you and Ellen talk about between takes?
We talked about kids, my 11-year-old just found Grey's Anatomy and she's asking me a lot of questions which are difficult to answer. We talked a lot about our kids finding this show, and how do we handle that. How do we police what they're able to watch? Are they of age? Is it appropriate? Some of it raises some questions that I'm not quite ready to answer yet. But I don't mind it because both my kids now want to be surgeons. And all their baby dolls they used to play with are now being cut open, and they're stitching up bananas. It's fun.
On-screen, the episode implies that Mark and Lexie wound up together in whatever this special beach is. Shonda Rhimes said back in back in season nine that killing off Mark was the only way for Mark and Lexie to really be together. In Lexie's last dying words, do you think Mark and Lexie were meant to be?
Absolutely. I mean, the line Meredith asks is, "So you guys are together." And I say, "I guess on your beach, we are." But I think Mark would have found Lexie no matter what. Whether it would have been on Meredith's beach or Lexie's beach, or anybody's beach, I think Mark would have found her.
Does this feel like you have closure with this character again? Did it feel like there was any lingering questions that you were really able to put a bow on this time?
I think it all came full circle. The one question I think that everybody was left with was, obviously Mark Sloan saying goodbye to Lexie and she said, "We're meant to be." And then Mark passes on, and we don't know what that meant. And now we know, Mark and Lexie are together in their parallel universe.
As an actor, do you feel like this is the closure that you maybe didn't quite get the first time?
Yeah. I always felt like there was closure. I've always trusted these writers and what they were doing as far as the overall story and the character's departures. They've always handled that really well. I guess the only people that weren't provided with closure was the audience. And I hope that this can do that for them.
Even though you didn't film in the same place, it really does feel that way.
Two-thousand miles of distance between us is not going to the chemistry that happens on screen between us. I know who I'm talking to, she knows who she's talking to. And that translates.
Mark spoke about always looking out for Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) and their daughter, Sofia. That felt like something special to be part of, too.
I can identify with that. I lost my father at a pretty early age and I always felt like he was looking out for me — still to this day, to a degree. So those words meant something to me, and I believe in them.
Ultimately, Mark and Lexie help Meredith fight to stay alive in her battle with covid. What does it mean to you to have been able to not only come back, but to do so in such a meaningful way?
It's a pretty poignant moment. I would think anybody speaking to anybody beyond the grave would probably provide the same advice. You get one lap in life, it's very important that you live every day to the fullest. You keep both feet in today, you stay present. And you're there for your loved ones.
Any regrets about not being able to reunite with Patrick Dempsey to bring McSteamy and McDreamy back together?
No. I love Patty. That wasn't the story. There were no regrets. I've never had regrets about anything on the show.
You said in a 2013 interview that you would have stayed on Grey's until the last episode but ultimately left because you couldn't pass up the role in The Last Ship. Looking back, any regrets about asking to leave?
No regrets. Look, Grey's Anatomy is a fantastic show and it provides a fantastic life. I'm an actor, I think it's very unnatural for any actor to play the same character for eight years. It's just counterintuitive to what I think I'm doing for a living and I think what my purpose is with my job. So, as much as I loved being there, and as much as I loved working with the people I was working with, playing Mark Sloan for 17 seasons just seemed like, I don't know, a little antithetical to what I'm supposed to be doing as an artist. And you get to a point where that's all anybody is going to see you as. And even with The Last Ship, I wasn't playing Mark Sloan, but I was playing a guy that certainly looked like Mark Sloan and had some of the same characteristics. And then I took a year off and said I need to mix things up here because I'm not finding any real joy in the work I'm doing. And then Euphoria came along and was very different and something I've never done. And it's going to challenge me and keep me engaged. And nobody is going to expect this out of me, so let's do it.
What's the status of season two?
Season two is going to be fantastic. I don't think principal photography has started yet, but I know we are prepping right now. I think mid-April we start shooting.
Is the plan still to get the show back on the air this year?
I believe so. We do take a long time filming it. And it's a gift to get that much time to shoot an hour of television. We take 30 days to shoot an episode sometimes, which is unheard of. When we were shooting Grey's in the early days, the 10-day episodes that we would get were unheard of. But 10 days and two units, people were like, wow, that's a luxury.
So to return to Grey's and get to spend a few days on the beach and not on set and in scrubs under the gun like the old days must have been a nice final memory of the show.
It was a great couple days on the beach with some old friends.

Big sister Lei, does anyone ever know what they’re doing/figure out this whole life thing? I’m 22 and I know I’ve got years to come into myself and my place in the world, but lately it’s been so hard for me to not have this like, wheezy panic over not having stuff handled. Do you have any advice or a kind slap upside the head you could provide ((if you’re up for it))? 💗💗💗
I almost dropped my martini when this ask came in, because I was just...I was so excited. I feel like at 35, I have a lot of secrets to share with 20+ year olds--secrets that I wish people had told ME at that age--but I don't know a whole lot of 20+ year olds and even less that are ever interested in what I have to say. So this opportunity....thank you, nani. I am honoured.
First of all--no. Nobody ever has it figured out. Trust me.
Second of all, if there's one thing I wish I knew when I was 22, it's just that I'm allowed to be young and inexperienced. Believe me, you're not always allowed to not know shit and as you get older, you're going to be EXPECTED to know shit--it doesn't mean you actually will know shit, just that you're expected to.
But at 22? Man, nobody expects you to know anything. I wish I knew that. Instead, at 22, I was trying to fake it because I felt like I HAD to know stuff--so every internship I did, every job interview I had, I inadvertently gave off this air of cockiness because instead of just RELISHING in my inexperience, I tried to pretend it wasn't there. I tried to pretend that I wasn't inexperienced at all--I, in fact, Knew Shit™. And it was ridiculous. Because what the hell does a 22 year old know?
NOTHING. That's what. And you're not fucking supposed to know anything. I cannot stress that enough.
NOBODY EXPECTS YOU TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ANYTHING AT 22.
Fall in love with that fact, sweet nani. Embrace it. That will change as you get older.
The ones who DO seem to have it all figured out at 22 are fucking lying, and they are going to end up SO FAR BEHIND the ones that just embrace their youth and greenness, and understand that what they lack in experience can be completely surpassed by things like enthusiasm, willingness to learn.
Be a sponge. Be a big, dumb, confused sponge. THAT is all that is expected of you at 22.
In my 20s I thought I was supposed to have a career goal in mind, I thought I was supposed to be financially independent, already saving for retirement, and be living on my own. I thought some degree of stability was completely expected of me. And all that lead to was some serious self-esteem issues because I had none of those things. I had no idea what I wanted to do in life. I was working at a medical clinic for minimum wage. I was living with 6 roommates and still eventually ended up back home for long periods of time.
I've said this a lot, but your 20s are for figuring out who you are. Your 20s are for being stupid and making idiotic mistakes. Your 20s are for making huge fucking mistakes that would be far less forgivable if you were in your 30s.
Your 20s are a mess. A glorious, disastrous mess. And just know that any pressure you may feel--it's all made up. All of it. If other people are pressuring you to have it all figured out in your 20s, just know that they--at whatever age they are--have literally fucking ZERO figured out and they're salty AF about it. If YOU are expecting yourself to have it all figured out in your 20s--stop. Life is going to fucking flatten you anyway, and if it doesn't, trying to figure it all out now means you'll likely be an incredibly dull person in your 30s.
Your place in the world is to be a colossal, massive screw up. Like, the biggest one you can be. That's your job in your 20s, your sole purpose in life. Fuck some shit up, so that you are a far more balanced 30 year old.
My life started to come together when I was around 31. I got a more secure job, one that I enjoyed doing (which--surprise--was not at ALL EVEN CLOSE to what I thought I wanted to do when I was 22). For the first time in my life I earned a decent enough salary that would allow me to actually save a little bit of money every month, instead of having every single cent go to bills. I was able to take a vacation for the first time, after a few months of saving. Over the next two years, I switched positions and got promoted and ended up earning a salary that means I can have a real nice life, with a great apartment, a dog, and I don't have to check the price of everything in the grocery store before I buy it. I have disposable income. I can do things like get my nails done every two weeks or buy a new dress or shoes that I like on a whim, and not worry about trying to pay for it. I can buy an expensive dinner and it won't cause a dent for two weeks in my budget.
But even at that--at 35, I'm not really saving for retirement the way I probably should. I still rent, and I don't own a home. I still wonder what I want to be when I grow up.
So do we ever really have it figured out? No, we don't. But at least in your twenties, I wish someone had told me that I wasn't expected to.

talking to my mum last night and getting fucked up about the degree of trauma my grandparents' generation faced and how. unwilling and ill-equipped the care system is for the obvious fact that there's a huge incidence of PTSD and complex lifelong mental health issues in those generations
grannie was 17 when she became a nurse and she was working immediately in London at the height of the Blitz. her first day she saw blown apart children and had to comfort their parents. she was almost hit by a rocket cycling home.
grandpa spent the whole war in labour camps before being trapped behind the Iron Curtain in the ruins of Dresden, almost dead from starvation from the camp, for another 3 years before making it back to Blackpool to find out his parents had died in his absence.
granny got radiation sickness at 13 from being put under an X-ray with no protection and forgotten about for hours; she lost all her hair and developed chronic pain and health problems. after years of severe physical, emotional and sexual abuse from her family and the men around her, she got engaged to an American pilot who was shot down and killed in the last month of the war. her former boyfriend came back a dissociative shell of his pre-war self and she ended up trying to raise three small children on her own, with her family at the other end of the country and her husband often having violent flashbacks and outbursts of rage. she was suicidal and had violent psychotic breaks and got institutionalised and medicated on and off her entire adult life.
like. it isn't just the war. people born in the early-mid 20th century, especially women, have been subject to so much sexual trauma, domestic and social violence, bigotry, and grief on grief on grief.
with my granny, it's entirely understandable that she was 'mad'. when I knew her, she was on heavy daily dosage of lithium - she stopped because it was destroying her gut after 30 years and she became violently aggressive, vindictive, scared, psychotic, paranoid, frequently delusional and extremely abusive. She was terrified of doctors because of her repeated experiences with medical abuse, she was furious with everyone around her, she coldly hated her husband and seemed actively happy when he died, and the thing is all of that makes perfect sense because she was profoundly and repeatedly traumatised for at least the first 50-60 years of her life.
but the thing that worries and answers me is that the elder care system and the mental health system are completely unwilling to engage with the fact that many many many old people have severe pre-existing mental health conditions. after all, how many of us have PTSD or psychotic episodes or bipolar or BPD or special care needs related to autism or OCD or ADHD or whatever? those don't just Cease To Exist after a certain age. and our parents and our grandparents grew up in times with much less support for mental health and much less awareness of trauma. granny's early traumas were familial but she was institutionalised repeatedly and treated appallingly throughout her life and that's in itself traumatic.
when granny was 82 and she stopped taking her lithium, she was frail, ill and a danger to herself and others.
they put her on a dementia ward when she was sectioned because she was Old, and Old Mad People Are Demented. but she didn't have dementia! she had chronic PTSD and paranoid delusions but she knew who, where and when she was and she was perfectly sharp, she just wasn't coping. when we went to visit her she'd say furiously 'they think I'm like the other people in here but I'm not, I'm not losing my marbles, I've always been this way'
none of us got any support looking after her while she was in hospital or after she left the inpatient ward - nobody checked in on grandpa while she was in hospital or on weekend release, and after she was released Dad looked after her single-handed while trying to deal with his dad's death. (she may have murdered grandpa while on weekend release, or he may have died of heart failure - either way when she went off the rails after 20 years stable, he gave up on life and I me and my sibling (for the record we were 10 when she left hospital) listening to her trying to continue unpicking her past trauma was I think the most therapy she got after she left.
she couldn't go into a regular elder care home because she was too unstable, she needed specialist mental health care and she sometimes needed to be constrained for her own safety and that of other people. residential mental health care facilities weren't equipped to deal with her needs as a woman in her 80s. she couldn't go into dementia care, which is about the only residential care available for old people with serious mental health needs, because she didn't have dementia and it would have been utterly inappropriate and harmful for her and the other residents. she lived to 93 and for the last 11 years of her life it was up to Dad and us to look after her in her home because there was simply nowhere else for her to go.
and what really fucks me up is that she wasn't past help. a lot of people thought she was but when she left hospital she was trying really hard to continue therapy on her own without a therapist, she drew and wrote about her life and memories and she used to sit opposite me and open up in a way I now utterly recognise as trauma therapy, she would try to find ways to talk about what had hurt her and state into the middle distance for tens of minutes trying to get it together enough to continue. she wanted to do the work. but the only people there for her were her son who was shellshocked from losing his dad and traumatised from effectively losing his mum again and who was spending all his energy just trying to get through work and home and get her physical needs met, and a couple of preteen children who had the will but not the capacity to help. we were barely holding ourselves together (mum drove granny places but mostly her capacity was being spent being about the only support Dad or us could get) and we just couldn't meet the work of a trained therapist. and eventually she gave up on getting better and got angrier and more bitter and more abusive to everyone. but she wanted to feel better. she wanted to deal with her shit. but there was no support.
and there must be thousands of people like her. older people with lifelong trauma and mental health issues who are too mentally ill for elder support and too old for mental health support. and the MH system doesn't think they're worth the resource cost because after all they're old, they'll die soon. but where are they meant to go? and how much harm does unsupported home care do to the person in need of care and to the people carrying for them? it just multiplies trauma down the generations. you can't just expect mental illness to only affect the young when the old have been just as traumatised and you can't treat them as separate issues when old people need carers who are qualified to deal with both their age and their mental health issues.
like yes many people develop late life mental health issues like Alzheimers and dementia, just as many people become disabled for the first time by age. but a lot of people are disabled or mentally ill for decades before they reach anything approaching elderly, and those things don't suddenly go away and don't have the same support needs as late-life issues.
idk. I'm very angry. if there was recognition of the need to support older people with lifelong trauma then my grandpa wouldn't have died hopeless and unsupported, my granny might have got her life back and got some healing after 80 years of living in fear, my dad wouldn't have had his own mental breakdown and slide into paranoia and conspiracy theory, and me and my siblings wouldn't have lost our whole adolescence trying to shore up two badly neglected adults' catastrophic mental health while under constant fire.
literally a ten minute weekly phone call with grandpa while granny was in hospital and weekly follow-up talk therapy for her after she was discharged could have made so much difference but nobody fucking cared. because she was Old. she was in the hospital because she was a danger to the people around her and they discharged her for the weekend as a trial run and her husband died suddenly while she was in the house and she seemed totally unbothered and they still. let her out for good two weeks later with no followup care or therapeutic follow-up and no support or advice for Dad on looking after her. they started talk therapy in hospital and then dropped her abruptly and left her raw and cracked open without any way to put herself back together. and she isn't unique it's just. Careless. and so destructive.

WE BEST LOVE (FIGHTING MR 2ND) ShouZhen and The Acceptance of Feelings, Love and Self
Warning this was really hard to write, I tried to be as sensitive as I could but if I have said anything ableist or wrong, and I need to be educated please let me know. I don’t mean to do that but when it comes to these two, I do have a degree in Clinical Psychology but there might be parts of me that are still ignorant, uneducated or insensitive to the community I don’t mean to be that way. So trigger warning(TW) for people, there are some ‘ableist’ comments or wording that I have to say when talking about a situation from someone’s perspective, let me know if there’s anything problematic about this analysis and I will try and edit and change anything that is wrong information, or offensive.
Oh god. This was a journey for me. This show like stuns me, I mean I’ve always known I would be obsessed with Xuan and Shouyi from We Best Love because they remind me of like a lot of couples I watched last year (Korean Psycho but it’s okay which kind of deals with the same themes in a different way, Flower of evil a bit more intense but still the same themes about society and ableism etc), so I’ve been waiting to write about them and discuss them in detail. Episode 3 just made me finally crack and start analysing them. I think the thing with We Best Love is that I am very surprised by how this season has just been so good, and deep, and mature but at the same time it’s very risky what they’re trying to do. It can lead to backlash and offense caused if its not done properly. So take that with a grain of salt, as much as I am enjoying these choices I do know it could change in the last two episodes, I’m holding out hope though that this show will stay the way I think it’s going to go, I don’t think the writers mean to be problematic or insensitive I actually they’re trying to do the opposite but we shall see. Let’s get into analysing these two. I promise you this is worth reading despite the length. Let me know what you think 😊
So small summary we have Shouyi from season 1, he’s our cold hearted doctor, he is insensitive to people, he says things and does things without care about how it affects others, he rolls his eyes at Shide’s suffering with love because he thinks it’s stupid. He’s funny but there’s something missing for him, he can’t help but be drawn to someone who he thinks is a problem and wants to avoid but actually he also wants to keep and protect forever. And we have Xuan that person he’s someone who is autistic, he is smart, indifferent to people, he is in his own world and he is very set on Shouyi. Xuan has been chasing after Shouyi since high school when he first met him, and he’s determined to not give up on his love and determined to make Shouyi see that he also feels the same way. At first it seems like a typical unrequited obsessive storyline we see in BLs but there’s so much more to it than that and that’s why I adore this couple. Let’s break it down
As much as Shouyi is misunderstanding his heart, he’s also misunderstanding Xuan’s heart. He thinks Xuan’s feelings/belief of feelings is stemmed from his diagnosis of Xuan’s situation, so he thinks Xuan is ‘childish’ due his autistic tendencies, his other disorders, but before we go into more detail on this base about why he refuses to accept Xuan’s feelings as real or long lasting, let’s talk about all the other reasons that others including Shouyi himself has given for why even though Shouyi and Xuan are two people who are in love with each other, (it’s a requited but they don’t know trope oddly even though it’s formed like a unrequited pining one sided love from Xuan to Shouyi), Shouyi refuses to acknowledge Xuan’s feelings and his.
Logic vs Feelings
Teacher/Student: Morals, Laws and Age
Let’s first look at the first reason: the teacher/student issue that Shouyi used as an excuse in his head for why they couldn’t be together 15 years ago. A lot of people when trying to understand or form reasons why they thought Shouyi ran away from Xuan 15 years ago say that it’s because they were a taboo situation because he was essentially an older adult with a minor? A teacher student situation right? So he felt logically and morally that they shouldn’t be together so they avoided crossing that boundary. This may be why he gave Xuan that ultimatum of finding him when he’s older and if they find each other again then Xuan can have a chance to chase after him though it’s a lie. And logically that makes sense, the teacher and student trope in romance love stories and BL can somewhat seem predatory and bring up those issues of consent, age and other topics. So normally it’s an uncomfortable thing to deal with, it does seem like Xuan was very young if we’re thinking he’s 30? Then he may have been 15-18 when they first met so there was definitely an age gap between them and Xuan was definitely a minor who probably shouldn’t be in a relationship with a teacher. It’s very good of Shouyi to turn away from Xuan at that time even if he did have his own feelings for him. Shouyi was a teacher figure, a protective guardian that Xuan kept seeking help and guidance from. My guess is that Shouyi saw how Xuan had transformed from the first time he met him to someone more healthier and better and felt uncomfortable when Xuan confessed how he felt and made it known that he wanted Shouyi to see him in a romantic way. So yes, the logical/moral reason for why Shouyi pushed Xuan away makes sense but I feel like there’s more to it than just that.
In the Taiwanese wiki because I’m not sure if this information will show up in the show anymore but Shouyi’s character was written as someone who was resentful to his parents because they forced him to do medicine. He ended up studying medicine but to spite them instead of becoming a doctor he actually chose to be a teacher/high school doctor which provided less money and skewed their expectations. Later he’d become a university doctor before finally quitting all that and choosing to run a bistro/café. Shouyi did not really mean to become a protective figure in his highschool doctor role, we see him as well in university he doesn’t do the role of a teacher/helper, he’s just logically following the rules/operations that the medical occupation does. He’s also very rough with how he takes care of his patients and he doesn’t bother to make them feel safe/or cared for or whatever, he’s abrupt, rude and cold. But as we start to uncover when we finally go into the past so I will be also using their trailer/music video to analyse with this essay, , once Xuan came to Shouyi for protection and nurture, (latched onto him like a baby bird) Shouyi did offer guidance and care and knowledge to Xuan helping him want to do more, want to learn more, want to be more and grow so he did essentially without meaning to ended up in a teacher role for Xuan which is why he sees Xuan as a child in need of advice, guidance and immature/naïve. This is why even after they reunite Shouyi still thinks Xuan has the same characteristics and childish actions as he did when he was 15.
The Doctor/Patient Situation: Healing, Obligation, Protection
The medical aspect of their relationship is important as well because both are connected to psychological disorders and Shouyi is again a guiding role and Xuan is a patient. Shouyi thinks because he’s studied medicine about the scientific explanations as a doctor about the disorders that Xuan has, what it entails, what it could lead to, how characteristics may be described and he rationalises and kind of judges/ stereotypes in my opinion ideas about why Xuan feels the way he does, or acts the way he does. So instead of seeing Xuan as more than a patient, his mind automatically sees him as someone with his condition rather just a person with feelings. I’m not going to lie I think there’s a bit of ableism from how Shouyi treats Xuan because he doesn’t see him as someone able to function without his disorder, he kind of rationalises and only sees him as one static stereotype and is constantly diagnosing him. But I do think that’s something the show may want to call out, when they show how Xuan is treated by people or seen by people because it does look like people automatically see Xuan as his disorder instead of just Xuan as himself. They blame a lot of things it seems on their mindset of what they think his disorder causes which is ableist. I think this is something Xuan has had to probably deal with since he was younger, and that’s why he’s so protective and adamant in letting people know he’s not sick he’s okay, he’s normal, he’s okay being himself, he’s not a threat, he’s not an issue etc. So I think we may have a commentary more on this in the subtext. But Shouyi is ironic when he plays a role in this because I think he is also someone who people are ableist to, I think he’s also like that to himself, because he also has a psychological disorder that makes people see him as that. Shide does mention how he should have known Shouyi won’t do anything for someone’s good, but for his own selfishness since he has his disorder in season 1, and I think just like Xuan this is something he had to learn a lot and accept about himself hence his issue with romance. So Xuan is an antithesis to Shouyi he’s more aggressive and protective and doesn’t like how society views him but Shouyi seems to have embraced and accepted his disorder and has a mindset that he’s exactly that and has also accepted how people expect him to act.
Anyway because of how he views Xuan (like how others do) he decides that the reason for why Xuan is into him can be explained psychologically; he’s a child in need of a figure to latch onto he’s somehow attached himself to Shouyi (filail imprinting) because he was overexposed to him. There is so many psychological theories on attachment and imprinting, but this reminds of the baby duck syndrome. This is an effect when someone gets exposed to something/they learn about it, they immediately latch onto this as the best thing compared to anything else and thus can’t change or move away from it. Anyway what I’m trying to get at is that Shouyi thinks Xuan’s attachment to him can be explained by psychology because Xuan is like a child who has latched him onto him as his only comfort/hope/joy whatever, because of that Xuan is deluding himself into thinking that’s love. With this syndrome the duckling is willing to be obsessed, sacrificial, just determined to be near that thing that matters to them so Xuan’s focus and determination to be with Shouyi can be explained in his head like that. So he sees Xuan’s feelings for him is seen not as love but as an imprint seeing him as a guardian figure, teacher figure, father figure etc. Someone who can take care of him.
With Xuan’s actions you could see how Shouyi who has no idea about feelings would think so. When they first meet, Xuan was very protective and defensive hence quite violent in order to protect himself, he was even very scared and distrustful of Shouyi at first, (my theories is that he was probably defensive because he was constantly bullied and treated badly because of how some people saw his disorder). But somehow Shouyi manages to calm him down and show him care by taking care of his wounds etc, and it causes Xuan to notice that he feels safe and he cares about being with this person.
So with all that said, obviously again in Shouyi’s head there’s a logical/scientifical reason for why he doesn’t want to acknowledge or believe Xuan’s feelings as long lasting or real. Again it makes sense, a doctor/patient relationship again borders on a lot of moral questions and lines that need to be discussed with/dealt with before they can be together. Xuan was seen by Shouyi as someone unstable, violent, self harming, depressed, etc He was seen as a patient in need of help so as someone playing the role of his care taker/ doctor that’s the only thing that he should be to him. But again I think yes logically he thinks this way but I also think knowing Shouyi these are all excuses for why he actually cares for Xuan. There is definitely a difference with how he pays attention to Xuan despite acting like he doesn’t care, there is definitely more feelings of protectiveness and worry for Xuan, and although he complains about not wanting Xuan near him, there is a lot of feeling lack, emptiness and discomfort without him there which I think he’s going to learn more about this season when he finally truly pushes Xuan away. In season 1, all Shouyi did was pine and think about Xuan, he held onto Xuan’s items and refused to let them go, he held onto them like a memory and its odd, he also gets very angry when Shide takes some of those memories and gets rid of them (the noodles) and it causes him to be spiteful but Shide thinks he’s being spiteful because of course he’s spiteful, he’s Shouyi with an emotional disorder he doesn’t care. Shide didn’t understand what those memories meant for Shouyi which is important. Because Shouyi doesn’t clock that, that’s a sign that he does miss and does want Xuan by his side.
So in my mind he is in love/or did have those feelings even after episode 3 when they kiss. But he reverts to using logic to explain why it’s happening, he uses logic to remove the importance and sentiments of emotions and feelings concerning how Xuan treats him and how he treats Xuan. Why they are connected. So as a teacher the moral obligation to guide and teach and help Xuan is why he cares. As a doctor the psychological consequences of not preventing Xuan from hurting himself or going too far is the reason for why he must nurture, and protect him/carry him. And the thing is they both really again compliment each other though like I said even if they had feelings, they shouldn’t have crossed that boundary 15 years ago, but I want to explain why they’re a good couple and why they fit.
Love and Influence, Growth and Companionship
First of all they both have an influence on each other to be better/ to grow/ to learn. So from Xuan it’s clear there was a transformation from his 15 year old self without Shouyi to who he is now. I’m pretty sure his job interests, his ability to trust, and have hope for the future is connected to him discovering all that when he was spending time with Shouyi. Shouyi clearly made him see things differently, helped him with some lifestyle enquiries like he wanted him to be proud of him, he wanted to protect both of them so he took up boxing (we see him always constantly boxing in the office, he just learnt how to be more healthier (not because being autistic is being unhealthy but his actions were unhealthy when he was younger because he was self-harming etc). We also get to see how different he gets when he’s with Shouyi, he’s more confident, calmer, happier, just very lively and excited and it’s so adorable but also makes sense. Xuan is no longer hateful of people around him (not because of his disorder but because of how people around him probably treated him), or violent (he’s only violent for protection and defense) and actually we see in episode 3 him feeling very upset and guilty when he fights and Shouyi sees him because it seems like Shouyi made him promise to stop using violence as his first reaction to things, so he felt upset because he didn’t want to disappoint him. But we see in the future he’s not only better, but he works along Shide and he is a actually in a big role in the company he works for.
For Shouyi, Xuan makes him learn about his emotions that he thought he couldn’t have, Xuan leads him on a self discovery journey, to understand more about who he is and not what society thinks he is, or not what some diagnosis claims he is, and for him to know that he can have love and he can be happy. Xuan also represents to him ease, comfort and hope not yet but soon despite the fact that on the surface he tries to push him away, I’m sure this season we see him also relax, trust and just be more open to feelings the way he hasn’t been able to want to be because of others. They both have this message of making the other know that there’s nothing wrong with who they are, they’re normal and live a happy life despite what people have said or treated them as.
Deyi vs Shouzhen; Mirrors of Each Other
In a way Xuan is a mirror image to another character we know who he thinks has Shouyi’s heart Shide. Because the reason why Shide fell for Shuyi young, was because Shuyi was someone who he felt safe with, listened to, cared for, (same reasons why Xuan fell for Shouyi), Shide felt Shuyi led him to growth and purpose and determination to be strong and hope (again same as Xuan and Shouyi) and so because of his feelings he was determined to be near Shuyi and now in season 2, show Shuyi his devotion and love (again same as Xuan to Shouyi). The love that they have for their person is automatic, uncontrollable, unconditional but also passionate and it makes them determined to be something to that person, to be with that person and to be in a position where they can protect that person. They both don’t mind if it’s one sided or if the love is more on their side than the other because the happiness they feel is by being with them and seeing them happy.
On the other hand Xuan and Shuyi struggle to actually realise their feelings that are also there just not prominent because they have a mindset stuck on logic, judgement but also on perceived societal opinions/rules. Let me explain so for Shuyi it’s because of his determination to not fall for men (because he had internalised homophobia (IH) something that is a theme that runs with him and Shide, it’s because of IH he automatically thinks Shide would choose a girl over him and get married and have a kid, it’s because of IH dealing with his father and the shareholders situation and the position of being his father’s heir that made him also say that he didn’t want to fall for a guy when he first realised how he felt for Shide), because of this he never saw Shide’s actions as romantic even when Shide was telling him/confessing to him in episode 2 in season 1, he always misunderstood Shide’s actions and intentions. This is the same as Shouyi who isn’t because of IH but because of ‘ableism’/raised with an ableist societal mindset that makes him misunderstand Xuan’s actions and also his own feelings and also it’s because of his own position (teacher/doctor role) that makes him also avoidant of dealing his feelings for Xuan in season 2.
Which is why I adore season 2, again in my previous analysis of this season, the aim of this season is to focus on maturity, real life issues, discussions and commentary on certain things because the characters in season 1 were more naïve, immature and starting out into the world, so its more prone to happiness, and love and all that (this is why season 1 was so light, and less angsty) when our characters grow older, the issues/topics that were hidden in season 1, (Shuyi and Shide’s miscommunication and misunderstanding about their actual feelings and their views on sexuality, Shouyi’s disorder and his mindset, etc) now have to be dealt with, discussed about but also fought with. Now every one has to fight for their path and deal with more serious conversations surrounding these things. That’s why it’s not a surprise season 2 is more angsty, more dramatic, more serious, it’s meant to be a mirror image of season 1, but just more elevated and deeper and more severe than what they had or what they knew when they were younger. That’s how life gets the more you’re older. That’s why I adore this show because yes season 2 is very different and more risky (they really took a risk with how they did season 2 as you can see a lot of people felt blindsided because they didn’t see the subtext and hints in season 1 when it was always there) but I like that it’s risky, I like that it’s tackling these issues, I like it’s more mature and serious but it still is We Best Love, it’s still a story about the innocent love going to passionate love before becoming the real pure definition of covenant love (unconditional, soulmate, growth, self love, self acceptance, communication and understanding). This is seriously why I love this show, I’m sad for the people who don’t see it as this because it’s always been the aim of the script writer to make it this way.
Nature vs Nurture
Back to Shouyi and Xuan. Actually back to the funny thing about Shide and Shouyi. So Shouyi and Shide are cousins it’s been told to us but every time there’s a plot with their love interests there’s a misunderstanding that leads to a growth/elevation in their relationships because their partners misunderstand what they are to each other. In season 1, Shuyi’s jealousy about them makes him confess out loud he knows Shide’s feelings this leads to them finally dealing with the truth and coming out to each other. Shide does think Shouyi acted this way because he was angry but its actually because Shouyi is protective and caring to Shide in his own way even if he thinks he can’t care about people. The reason why he did what he did is because he wanted Shide to stop suffering in an unrequited love with Shuyi, he wanted to help but he used another excuse to explain away his emotions/feelings which is exactly his character and what we see he’s doing with Xuan. So with Shouyi he does care about people, he does have emotions but because of his diagnosis/ people told him, he doesn’t believe he does because I’m sure he struggles understanding what he feels. But Yes so again with Xuan and Shouyi there’s a misunderstanding by Xuan that Shouyi loves Shide, which is going to play a part in their relationship, Shouyi uses this lie to push Xuan away and he thinks it’s a solution of making Xuan stop loving him. Because he thinks love is painful from watching Shide, he thinks the results of love isn’t worth it because he sees Shide suffer constantly because of his own feelings but I think he also envies them whenever they’re happy like we saw in the finale of season 1, he goes to drink looking contemplative and sad. He’s lonely. So again on the surface Shouyi thinks love is over rated and stupid but actually inside he feels empty and wants it but he thinks he’s unable to have that.
Let’s discuss Shouyi’s ‘disorder’ because it’s still very hard to process what he actually has. We know he thinks he’s emotionally defective like he isn’t able to feel emotions, or care about people. He can’t form emotional connections to people, he just sees them as nothing important. The only way I could rationalise or understand is to kind of group it with another disorder even I don’t know if it is that because I don’t think he’s a sociopath, but I see some of his symptoms close to ASPD? Or I guess I also think it’s just Alexithymia which is lack of emotional awareness where he doesn’t know what emotion he’s feeling but he does have it. Either way what I see with his symptoms is that he’s not unable to feel emotions I think he just doesn’t know or understand emotions/ feelings, so it’s like an obstacle or like it’s a challenge for him to fully come to terms with the idea of emotions and all that so he withdraws from that and sees himself as unable to feel or care.
This is my guess because it’s quite hard to understand his diagnosis when there’s not enough yet explained about what he does struggle with. Either way its either he doesn’t understand what emotions he’s feeling or he has lack of them. I think it’s the latter because I can see that he shows care to people and he’s protective and helpful to people he feels close to. (this is just what I’m seeing). Either way the similarities with Shouyi and Xuan is that they have both been born with something that has made them be seen in a negative way or misunderstood way (as much as not everyone is ableist I still think that’s kind of the environment I’m seeing from the show about these two and how they’re treated. I could be wrong) and told different things about who they are and what they have. So for example I keep repeating that one scene but when Shide speaks to Shouyi angrily in season 1 in a very insensitive manner about his disorder, Shouyi is defensive and angry about the way he spoke to him, what he said about him, so you see there is annoyance when people say stuff like that about him even though it seems he also has embraced those ideas about himself.
In his mind he knows what he has because it’s something he struggles with but I think it frustrates him that he doesn’t can’t explain why he’s the way he is, he probably tried to form attachments and feelings for people but couldn’t so he gave up on the idea of ever being able to do that. But I think it’s just because those people aren’t Xuan. I’m not fully sure about what kind of environment Xuan grew up in but if he was little and people made fun of him, or bullied him, or mocked him he would have struggled with knowing there’s nothing wrong with who he is vs a accepting what people said about him that he can’t ‘function’ because he’s ‘sick’ probably. Because he’s really defensive he does not like people telling him that there’s something wrong with him, that what he’s feeling is not normal or real, and he’s able to take care of himself and have a good life with who he is. I think you see this struggle in him when he thinks Shouyi has feelings for Shide. Like he immediately once he gets caught fighting walks away sadly because you can guess what he’s thinking, it’s probably ‘Ofcourse it’s Shide he likes, someone ‘normal’ ‘stable’ etc” You can see him in my opinion regress with those thoughts which is why he turned away in shame and says to Shouyi if I was him you would care etc I think yes he fights what people say about him and he knows he’s okay and what he’s feeling but if people keep on making him feel like the opposite he will later regress and accept what they say about him. If he really does get pushed away finally by Shouyi I think he’ll finally really accept that mindset he’s been struggling to fight and reject that he’s ‘abnormal’ to society therefore he’s not allowed to have love because he’s an obstacle to himself and his partner. That’s something I think the story will show for them which is heart breaking. Sigh.
Taking A Risk
Before I continue, let’s pause because let’s discuss the trailer for episode 4. Because yes the trailer does make it look like Xuan hacked the computer out of jealousy and pettiness because of the Shide situation. I think this is a misdirect or a warning. I don’t think the writers will make him be the one who did that, by making him be misunderstood though as someone doing that, brings up commentary it brings up a discussion about how people treat him. So in my opinion there’s a difference if they make him the one who did that because of vindictiveness and resentment then that’s problematic but if they’re trying to show how people have been treating him all his life, I think that’s okay because that’s exactly the aim of the show, to show what he’s struggling with because of how he’s seen in this environment. I can see the characters thinking he’s the one, blaming him, being ableist and I think a lot of people are going to be sensitive and annoyed and I get it; it’s a very risky move by the script writer if she wants to go this way, for me I will understand because I get what the show is trying to say, it depends on the consequences if our characters do end up doing something ableist how do they get taught that they’re wrong and that’s the only thing about this risk that worries me she may not be able to fully make people accept the characters apologies/ flaws with this issue.
It’s so risky and this season has tried so hard with its risks to bring up stuff but I am really happy because we have an autistic BL character, I love it so much because I think it’s incredible. The fact that this season is tackling this conversation about psychological disorders; the fact that we have one character more defensive and determined to be taken more seriously because he’s learnt to love who he is and accept himself vs his partner who has never had that chance to think about what he wants, who he is, what he needs because he’s constantly thinking he’s prevented by his disorder is something that’s very fascinating to me, and I’ve been so excited to analyse and see it play out on the screen by these brilliant actors. I have been begging for risks in BLs to be made, for more stories to be told that border on the line of sensitive topics and representation, these stories should obviously told by people who are representative of the characters but I also like that a writer took a risk to discuss it more and show it on the screen. I like that we have conversations about mental health on the screen and it’s important to see how another culture/country treats the subject of psychological disorders so we know what needs to be changed/ learnt/ discussed. However I do get that the autistic community and others could be triggered by things with this storyline so far I’ve spoken to people about how they feel about Xuan so far, and a lot of people from the community isn’t offended by him but that’s not a full population of people, but people did say they understood Xuan’s character. But I can’t speak for the community. But for me I just would love to have a whole BL season just for these two, because I really commend the writers if done properly on the risk they took to show this.
As you can tell from this essay I adore We Best Love, I know it’s a polarising decision because people seem to think this season is worse or whatever, but for me I love this show, I didn’t expect this show to be so deep and bring up these subjects it’s the reason why even when I could have written about season 1 since I noticed the themes that are more dealt with in season 2, I didn’t cause I thought it was just be me overthinking it. We Best Love didn’t promise to be the outstanding different BL, it really is simple in season 1, which is why I am surprised at the comments of people who say that they are shocked it’s just a basic BL, like what were they expecting the storyline is very easy to understand, and it does have tropes similar to other BLS, it’s just written better and has interesting characters and good acting. But season 2 is when they really go deeper and start to tackle really serious conversations and I understand that it borders on the line of toxicity, problematic content, questionable ideas but for me I’m so happy the characters are being shown as flawed and problematic. Like Shide and Shuyi weren’t healthy they won’t be until the end of the show that’s what the writer wants to achieve; they are going to end up growing and maturing together to finally get their happy ending, and that’s the same for Xuan and Shouyi right now because of mindsets, and misunderstandings etc they are going to be questionable but they’re going to learn to understand each other and show each other how they feel and grow together from their flaws. The characters are just humans, they make mistakes, they do things but they’re consistent with their character outlines and goals, the writer has never changed anything about the characters, she’s making them learn and mature and go through consequences for their flaws, and I think it’s really important to notice that. I think that’s enough reason for me to love this show because I really enjoy how she’s made a simple BL be very deep and realistic in my opinion about how people are when they fall in love. I also adore the whole team, the actors, producers, writer I think they have done such an amazing job and put so much effort, energy and hard work to tell this story when others don’t do that all the time. Anyway let me know what you think about these two, about the show, about season 2. I’m really surprised by the BLs we are getting lately I’m not goanna lie I am obsessed with every one of them and like just stunned by each conversation and analysis they bring. Absolutely phenomenal start to the year.
