Im very happy that I finally got to the point in the fic where Amity's motivations are made a bit more clear. It was EXHAUSTING getting comments telling me I'm laying it on too thick with her behaviour or that I've completely massacred the character and at that point I couldnt even say "please understand the kind of stress this little girl is under" of course she's cloying and obsessive and annoying and constantly micromanaging Willow's emotions. Of course she's doing more harm than good. She's buzzing with intense paranoia at all times and is terrified of what could possibly happen to her friend if she stops monitoring her for even five minutes. Of course she's fucking it all up. Of course she's constantly putting her foot in her mouth. She's a disaster. She's 14. She believes Willow's entire life is in HER hands for some fucking reason. Give this bitch a break.

Note
I think the vitriol for Boscha is weird, people claim they hate her because shes a bully, but then refuse to get annoyed at Amity or Skara, or ignore how teachers actively encouraged vicious behaviour. (they encouraged toddlers beating each other up like come on.)
Bullying is usually a bigger, more complex issue than just 'this one person being awful' its usually a combination of the bully, other students not caring or joining in, along with teachers and faculty not caring enough to discourage it.
like if your gonna say you care about bullying in media, at least call out how Skara stood there in ASPIS while Willow went 'we've all been misjudged' like Skara wasnt one of the people who joined in on said misjudging.
So… Explaining the vitriol towards Boscha is mostly… sad. So first I'm going to touch on you mentioning the teachers because it's actually a thing in S1 of TOH that everyone is kind of a terrible person and it's part of what makes the incidental world building in S1 fascinating. The most unique thing about TOH's world is that it values conformity, even conformity to being terrible and selfish, ABOVE lawfulness. Hence the Conformatorium.
That doesn't survive S2 of course, and especially not Elsewhere Elsewhen, but I digress.
As for Boscha's hate though… Someone said there's a trope called "A jerk is worse than a villain." And I immediately understood it. With a villain, they're often more over the top, they obviously are of importance and you know they'll be redeemed or defeated eventually (I'll actually get back to this).
With a jerk though… They can often feel too real or muted and like they don't have a reason to be doing what they're doing besides being mean. Boscha falls in this latter category (though she has her reasons to act the way she does). Nothing she does is actually that over the top. She is a perfectly well written, high school bully.
And this fandom is filled with a lot of eternally online teenagers who see themselves in Luz, if not AS Luz, especially with us being told Luz was bullied in the past. How many of them have known someone like Boscha? How many of them hate that person in real life? How many of them will never forgive those people? And how many people of those people who are fueled like that are one step away from becoming bullies themselves once they find someone less powerful than them so they can feel in control and not helpless anymore?
Now… There is a good question for "Why didn't this happen with Amity?" Because Amity was a bully, right? Well… She only gets one real line of being a bully and that's her mocking of Willow right when we meet her. After that, for that episode, she's a villain. She's entertainingly over the top to the point of easily selling how much this all matters to her.
Which then makes her actions in Covention feel more justified because Luz is on her shitlist. HOWEVER, this was also the dividing point for her. If she hadn't been obviously on the road to redemption with sympathetic excuses (because they are excuses but realistic ones, especially for a teenager) for her behavior by the end of the episode, I imagine a lot more people would have either taken longer to warm up to her or never forgotten she was a bully. Never been willing to let that go. But after Hooty's Moving Hassle, she… Never does anything bad to another person. All of her edge is gone by then and more often than not, bad things are happening to her as part of the show's revisionism to make her seem like she was never a bad person.
Boscha never got that. Nothing she ever did was that over the top except wanting to use Luz as target practice. That's really it. She was never given blatant excuses, even if you can read into why and possibly even the how (Thanks Amity) for why she is as she is. And this fandom likes its face value choices a lot more than taking it one step further and figuring out what it all implies together. The grander picture.
Because Boscha is a fascinating, well rounded, TRAGIC character if you take everything that has happened, what her friends growing up must have been like, especially with Amity as her best friend, etc. like that. Is she still mean? Absolutely. She's still a bitch and I wouldn't want her to lose her edge like Amity even if she were properly redeemed. But there's a lot there… That probably wouldn't have lasted if she'd been given attention because of how TOH does its arcs because both Hunter and Amity are all about "That first episode was a lie. Now let us make sure you forget it except for Twitter posts praising our character development."
But unfortunately, without that attention… Boscha is still the bully that the fandom can put their own problems and damages onto and she'll never be saved from that. Similar things could have been said for how people treated Odalia and Alador between Seasons 1 and 2 instead of trying to see where they may be coming from.
And it all is kind of a shame, especially when I think Boscha is only so good because she DIDN'T get care and attention put into her. She's a fluke. Like most of the great side characters in the show. Love to Viney as always.

Clouds on the Horizon
aka
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
ahem, I mean, let's go
the Collector and Belos don't seem to like or trust each other at all, even though or maybe because lmao they've worked together for centuries
"what if it's all changed? what if you've changed?" both true, Belos is gonna hate 2022 even more than we do. also he'll catch every virus and illness known to man
Tumblr media
I LOVE the way this little bastard is animated
he doesn't want to make another grimwalker until "dealing with the current one" ugh
I'm wondering if it's just because he doesn't want the trouble of two at the same time or because he needs... parts from the previous one. one of the ingredients were bones from the original but it could also be that he uh, "recycles" them. ya know?
kikimora is a whole disaster huh
Blight siblings my beloveds
Odalia my despised
the language of loooove aw
Lily and Hooty being chaotic we love to see it
"you may be a titan but you're still a little guy" aw he wants to be useful
"Belos made sure we all have... replacements" oh I do NOT like that
using the curse to corrupt the spell is clever and makes sense but also... this all feels so risky
we don't know by the end if Eda actually got the sigil for sure, so we'll have to wait. Raine seemed very hesitant
Tumblr media
Lilith volunteering to do it seems important. I wonder if she'll try to switch with Eda, since she is there dressed as a scout
Hooty did wear clothes after all
Darius and Eber's plan: we may kill some people but hey, at least we stop this guy. flawless :)
Eda keeps talking like it's the end and I agree with King, she needs to stoppppp it hurts me
AN EGG I LOVE IT I'm sad we still don't know what her palisman will be, I assume it'll hatch next week, but that is so perfect. they get to choose, and whatever it is, it'll be the perfect match for her
or should I say, the perfect hatch!! heh? I'm hilarious
Eda supporting Luz and Amity's romantic adventures I love her
"tell Bossy Boots I said yooo" lmao
Tumblr media
sobs I LOVE THIS FAMILY
I know Raine will do anything to keep their promise, but that's what scares me too
Raine annoying Darius with the CATs name is everything to me <3
"Titan help us" "I'll... do my best" god he is feeling so much
Hexside trio reunion !!!!! thank u for the serotonin
+ Hunterrrr my son made friends :') he's so awkward but making progress
and he got new clothes and a shower thank you
a little sad we didn't get to see Darius and Hunter interacting but it's good to know they've been in contact and we're all in the same page here
so yes, he hasn't told them about the grimwalker thing, that makes sense. I hope he gets to talk about it on his own terms rather than have it revealed by Belos or something, ugh
Gus using that little spyglass like a BADASS go my boy
"SORRY MAN" he is so funny
Tumblr media Tumblr media
not the going up the balcony with the flowers romance is SO alive right now
Odalia broke the little tamagotchi I will end her
grounded for arson, I'm impressed
I like that Amity trusts her dad to listen and believe them, but not her mom. they are not quite the same
the twins being like oh look who's here :) hehe let her finish this is cute
oh to have the most mundane, slice of life date ever with your cool witch girlfriend
KISS I AM SOBBING
the animationnnn the love
listen when I saw them hug I was like will they will they will they? nah they probably won't let them and then BAM
Eda seems to be in far better spirits than before finding out about the rebellion which makes sense, but also she's most likely putting on a facade of confidence with all the jokes and such hmm
she has accepted the curse as a part of her forever, which I like since it fits the chronic illness angle the story has given it. and hey, she still has glyphs if all goes wrong. I hope
Steve was extra serious this whole episode it made me uneasy
that creepy connection King and the Collector have is terrifying
he seems so much like a lonely child. a powerful, chaotic, dangerous child
snorse power, HA
why does that rat look like Alador? a cosplayer rat??
"I'm an asset gal myself" I would die for Willow
those wild witches are all so pretty! am I crazy or are they based on the cast and crew? nice
Alador and King bonding was not what I was expecting but honestly I loved it ahaha
seems the Blights' relationship is more of a business partnership where she is the unreasonable boss. checks out
things are gonna change after the Day of Unity indeed, sir...
Tumblr media
I've been waiting for a shot with all 5 of them LOOK AT THIS TEAM WITH ALL THEIR NEW OUTFITS AND HAIRSTYLES THEY'RE PERFECT
"we'll find you a new girlfriend" I love that she is horrible but still draws the line at homophobia, we don't need that here
so, Belos and everyone seem to know about the CATs. Does this mean... there's a traitor??? or were they just discovered?? oh god either way this is not good
"was it the power of believing in myself?" "NO" why did that take me out
Tumblr media
unbothered
the way Alador blushes like Amity when they get angry. yes
she feels justified and like she's doing them all a favor, she wants to stay in control
very cool to finally see an oracle witch in action! even if I want her to lose
Tumblr media
I noticed "Luz" did Hunter's quick warp thing to shield Willow and was confused, it felt too intentional. very nice
also add one to the counter of Hunter instinctively protecting people. he does that a lot
Tumblr media
I am devastated this wasn't actually Hunter but this is so On Brand for Luz I love her very much
Gus an absolute icon for keeping up that illusion for so long while also kicking ass
"the jetpack actually works!!! :) oh, the jetpack actually works :("
very badass of Alador to destroy his own work and quitting his marriage job
Luz thought of a way to kill two birds with one stone: protecting Hunter by keeping him away from Belos, and helping Eda by being taken to her. But now she's alone heading directly to the emperor
she is so selfless but girllll be safe
she still has her palisman egg and her glyphs of course
Tumblr media
and so we end with this ominous shot
what is it with second to last episodes and the blood moon lately? and the way both matched the recent blood moon eclipse is pretty wild ngl
so I assume Amity, Willow, Gus, Hunter, King and Alador will head to the uh, the head, but they'll get there later. hopefully not too late
though I am scared for King being anywhere near there given the whole thing with the Collector... oh, next week will be INSANE
It'll be sad to say goodbye to the Owl House for the time being, but I know it'll deliver a crazy season finale. oof, can't wait

Tumblr media
It started off with little things that made Four intrigued by you
Firstly, you being a transfer from Amity to Dauntless of all factions
Secondly, despite being raised to be kind, you were the most ruthless of initiates
And lastly, you had a way of drawing attention to yourself; either intentional or not that made you seem magnetic to Four
You two didn’t really meet until after you were properly welcomed as a member of the Dauntless faction
The two of you both worked in security, you weren’t a good leader and you enjoyed technology even if Amity wasn’t the most “techy” faction
It was easy working beside Four, he wasn’t annoying or arrogant which you found to be very refreshing
“All of the others here think they’re better than me, it’s crazy.” (You)
Small talk wasn’t your forte but the silence in the room was deafening
“Tell me about it,” (Four)
He knew a thing or two about arrogant assholes, one always came to mind; Eric Coulter
After that, you two began hanging out together
Sitting beside each other during meals became routine, it was convenient especially when you had to tell him something in regards to work
“I was thinking of getting a tattoo, want to join me?”  (You)
You skipped out on tattoos when the other initiates got them, it didn’t feel right at the time
“Sure, what’re you getting?” (Four)
“I dunno, it’ll be my first.” (You)
After that, Four looks at you differently
He honestly expected you to dive headfirst into “Dauntless life” to prove you were worthy because you came from Amity
The trip to the tattoo parlor was one of many times you two spent time together outside of work
“Being in Amity was so weird, I’ve always been sort of angry by nature so it was hell trying to be peaceful.” (You)
“You don’t seem angry,” (Four)
“Oh 16 years of standing in the corner will do that to a person.” (You)
Things never got that personal, but when the conversation felt too close to home (for either of you) one of you quickly switched topics
Your friendship worked well in that way
“One time I put a frog in my cousin’s bed and had to do like a hundred hours of community service. I was nine.” (You)
“My old faction as a whole wasn’t horrible. But I didn’t fit in well…” (Four)
“Same here, least we got each other right?” (You)
It became obvious to Four that you two were more alike than he originally realized
Two people from similar factions with similar upbringings… both having grown up feeling out of place
Four realized his feelings for you were turning into something more when you made him a cake for his birthday
Your bright smile and messy apron made him stop in his tracks, surprised
“Dauntless chocolate cake for my favorite person’s birthday!” (You)
“How’d you know?” (Four)
“You mentioned it when we first met, how’s it feel to be an old man, Four?” (You)
That night was something different, stargazing after watching a movie felt so intimate with Four, but so comfortable at the same time
“No one’s ever made me a cake before.” (Four)
“Not even your mom?” (You)
You found out she passed soon after and instead of asking more questions like usual, you just kept him company
“I never really considered leaving Amity until I got my aptitude test results,” (You)
“What’d you get?” (Four)
“Dauntless, duh.” (You)
Four had laughed at that, you always surprised him with your random sarcastic outbursts or remarks
“Bet it came as a surprise.” (Four)
“Not really, if anything I was thankful for a way out. Despite their appearance, Amity isn’t as beautiful as they claim to be.” (You)
Four genuinely recognized his feelings when you and some initiates from your group invited him to some shenanigans, he hadn’t done anything like that since he transferred, but you were adamant
“Come on, it’ll be fun! I did this on like my third night here and nearly died but it was so worth it!” (You)
It actually turned out to be fun, the same game of capture the flag but in a different area of the city
Four was on your team (luckily) and you two were taking people out left and right
When you saved him by taking down one of the enemies, he watched in awe at how good you were (man is WHIPPED)
That was the first night you crashed at his place because you were so tired
“I’ll pay you back tomorrow, mkay?” (You)
You made him breakfast in the morning, it wasn’t anything spectacular just something to repay him for giving up his bed
“Nobody’s made me breakfast in like ten years.” (Four)
“That sucks, but I’m glad I could be that person…” (You)
Neither of you spoke after that, it was like the energy in the air after the game of capture the flag completely changed
It wasn’t uncomfortable, just… heavy… with things unsaid
I feel like Four would keep himself from being nice all of a sudden since it would be weird if he suddenly changed up on you
But he found it hard because your company made him happy
At one point he told you his real name, out of the blue, he just asked if you’d start calling him it when it was just you two
“Call me Tobias,” (Four)
“Why would I call you that, your name’s Four-- Oh... that’s your real name isn’t it? Hmm, it’s nice, serious just like you.” (You)
He would often catch himself staring at you as you spoke or enjoying the sound of your voice
“Tobias? You there?” (You)
You’d caught him staring and it made him get really embarrassed
It was weird seeing Four flustered and struggling to find the right words, you were usually the less composed one
“Are you okay? You look like you’re having an allergic reaction, staring is normal. I do it all the time.” (You)
This would confuse Four, you stared at him? No… that couldn’t be true, could it?
“What I meant to say was--” (You)
“What?” (Four)
Now things felt awkward, those unsaid words were heavy in the air; both of you knew but didn’t want to ruin a nice thing (your friendship)
“I stare at you… because you’re pretty.” (You)
“Never been called pretty before,” (Four)
“Well… you are, very pretty.” (You)
“You’re prettier but I’ll take it.” (Four)
His sudden confidence came out of nowhere but he was definitely thankful for it
“You think I’m pretty?” (You)
“I think you’re great… in general… it’s weird but I feel comfortable to be myself around you,” (Four)
“That’s not weird, I feel the same.” (You)
Things didn’t change all too much after that, neither of you wanted to rush into things because your friendship was too beautiful to ruin by making a mistake

DannyMay 2021 Day 11: Midnight
Seaside Light Keeper - Chapter 1: Witching Hour
Summary: Danny Fenton was the latest in a long long line of Fenton's to live in the Fenton Lighthouse on the shores of Port Amity. He's known all his life that one day the Lighthouse will be his, both as a home and as a responsibility.
One late night in the woods changes everything.
Word Count: 1,973
Part 1 of a new AU? Wow who would have guessed I would have another AU idea 😅
You can read on AO3 or down below the cut
Danny lay in his bed listening to the sounds of his home. Everyone else was already asleep and the gentle rhythm of the ocean lapping against the shore made it hard not to join them. Just as he was starting to nod off his phone lit up his darkened bedroom with a notification.
It was time.
He pulled himself up and checked the message. “It’s now or never dweeb.”
Danny sighed and shook his head before sending a message that he’d be right out. Maybe if he just ignored the name-calling Dash would get bored and stop?
He slipped his phone into his pocket, flipped his blanket back onto the bed after rearranging the pillows to look like he was under there, grabbed his socks and shoes before he carefully made it out of the house.
He wasn’t too worried about his parents finding him out of bed in the middle of the night. His dad was asleep based on the loud snores coming from his parent’s room while his mom was upstairs on the first watch. He just had to make sure his sister didn’t wake up and catch him fully clothed as he was still sneaking out.
Luck was on his side tonight and he was able to slip out into the cool night air with no interruptions. The sand was already so cold without the sun to warm it this late at night. He sort of regretted not slipping his shoes on while he was on the porch, but he liked running along the beach barefoot.
He spotted Dash and Kwan pretty easily given how much taller they were than most of the guys in their class. The pair was loitering near the edge of the pier just out of the glow of the streetlight near the no loitering sign.
Danny tried not to snicker at the irony as he made his way over.
“And here I was thinking you weren’t going to show?”
“I sent you a text back.”
Dash pulled his phone out and stared at it for a minute before showing the phone to Danny, “You sure about that?” There was nothing on the reply side from Danny.
Danny pulled out his own phone and saw it had failed to send the message, “Well I tried too.” he shoved the useless phone back in his pocket and looked back to the taller boys, “So you never did tell me why we were meeting here.”
“Yeah I did.” Dash denied.
Kwan pondered on it for a moment, “No, I don’t think you did.” Then he looked back down to Danny, “You should really put your shoes on.”
He nodded and brushed the sand off the soles of his feet before slipping on his footwear. “If I’m remembering correctly, all you said at school was,” Danny cleared his throat as he stood up and did his best impression of Dash, which is to say put on the most annoying voice he could manage without laughing, “meet me by the pier at midnight, or else.”
“I don’t sound like that!”
Kwan hit Dash in the chest with the back of his hand, “Dude shut up! Someone’s going to hear us.”
“Whatever let’s just go.”
“Where are we going?!” Danny asked in exasperation as he followed.
“We’re looking for the witch’s well.” Dash finally explained before heading off towards the forest.
Of course, they were.
If there was one thing Port Amity had that would probably outlive the town itself, it was the legend of the witch’s well.
Long ago, when Port Amity was barely a little blip on the map, there was a woman who lived alone in the woods. Seeing as it was in ye olden times, that was suspicious. The townsfolk avoided her. They called her a witch.
Apparently, she never denied these claims. It was said that she told the townsfolk that all she wanted to do was to live her life in the forest and she would keep to herself. She told them they had no reason to fear her.
Despite her asking for a peaceful co-existence the town didn’t agree. They did what you did to witches in the Salem era. They locked her in her house and burned it down around her.
Once the final embers died out the townsfolk discovered that she had a well, a very deep well. Far deeper than it needed to be. Deep enough to reach the sea.
Or at least that was the story.
No one has ever been able to find the well since. The arsonist townfolk didn’t tell anyone where they committed their crime so the location was lost to time.
Over the years, whenever anything bad happened to the town, the witch was blamed.
The poor crops after the untimely death of the witch? Witch’s fault.
The hurricane in the fifties that nearly wiped the town into the sea? Witch’s fault.
The poor fishing catches of the last twenty years? Witch’s fault.
Most people didn’t actually believe in the witch or her well. It had become more of a local legend. It didn’t stop her from being everyone’s scapegoat though.
Did you fail a test? Witch’s fault.
Did your crush not accept your confession? Witch’s fault.
Did you trip on a crack in the sidewalk? Witch’s fault.
It was basically a locals-only meme now.
Danny followed along even if he thought they wouldn’t end up finding anything. If there really was a house in the woods it had to be overgrown and completely hidden after all this time. Same with the well.
He pulled his phone out and sent a quick text to Tucker even though he was probably sleeping. “Hey you were right after all. We’re going into the woods now.”
He hoped they didn’t stay out too long, he did plan on getting some sleep tonight.
Once they were completely engulfed by the foliage Tucker replied, “let me know when they ditch you.”
Danny couldn’t help the light scoff that escaped his lips, “Rude! Don’t be jealous because they invited me and not you.”
“Let me know when they ditch you.”
“Did you send that twice or is my phone glitching again?”
“I sent it twice. I’m being petty.”
Danny snorted as he tried to repress his laugh. At least Tucker was honest.
“What are you doing back there?” Dash whisper-shouted back at him over his shoulder.
“Nothing,” Danny lied as he tried to decide if he should keep his phone out or slip it back into his pocket.
“Well stop it and help us.”
Danny turned the flashlight app on and got closer not realizing he had straggled so far behind.
“Why are we doing this in the middle of the night anyway? Wouldn’t it be easier with the sun out?”
“Don’t be stupid. The place can’t be found during the day, it’s part of the curse.”
Danny stopped dead in his tracks, “I’m sorry, what?”
“Oh come on. Don’t act like you don’t know. You’re from one of the founding families.”
“All that means is that I inherit the lighthouse when my folks retire.”
“I told you he wouldn’t know,” Kwan muttered loud enough for them all to hear.
“Wouldn’t know what?” Danny asked and wondered if maybe they had taken in too much salt water from all their time at sea this summer.
“Look, there’s not a lot to talk about when you’re at sea, and we got to talking about the witch,” Kwan started but was quickly interrupted by Dash’s moaning protest.
Kwan ignored him and continued to both tell his story and slowly walk through the woods.
“There’s this part of the legend that says only under the light of the full moon can a descendant of the original witch hunters find the house.”
“So you brought me?” Danny deadpanned not at all thrilled to know they invited him only because of his lineage.
“Well yeah,” Dash shrugged.
“Why not invite my sister then? I thought you liked her?”
“Uh, yeah, that’s exactly why I didn’t invite her.”  Dash took Danny’s silent confusion as his cue to continue, “What if the witch’s ghost is still hanging around and gets mad and wants to avenge her death or whatever?”
Danny’s mouth dropped open, “you brought me out here to be killed by a ghost?”
“It’s not that I want you dead, it’s just that between the two of you, the choice is pretty obvious.”
“You know what, screw you! I’m going home!”
“Aw come on, Fenton! I was only teasing!” Dash called as Danny stormed off.
Danny ran for a little bit before he started to get winded so he leaned against a nearby tree.
He heard Dash and Kwan calling after him but he didn’t want anything to do with those jerks right now, so he slipped behind the tree and waited for them to pass.
He sighed and realized they were going back towards town and now he’d have to follow them out. He didn’t want to follow after them. Not now, not ever again. He was done trying to get their attention. Done trying to get them to like him when they clearly didn’t care about him at all.
He doubled back to put more distance between them and figured he’d just exit the forest from a different spot. All he had to do was follow the sound of the sea and he’d be on the beach again.
He never once was worried about getting lost in his hometown. As long as he could get to the beach he could find his way home. Perks of growing up in a lighthouse.
He walked along and it wasn’t until he had to pull out his phone to see where he was going that he realized he might be walking the wrong way. If he was following the sound of the ocean, the forest should be getting lighter as he got closer to the beach, not darker.
He was trying not to panic as he looked around for any sign of something familiar, but everything in the forest just looked the same in the dark.
His foot hit a particularly sturdy rock and he tripped. As he tried to regain his balance he twisted and ended up falling backward instead of face first.
Then he kept falling.
He wasn’t touching anything.
For a split second, he thought he was going to just fall forever.
Then he hit the ground.
Hard.
All the air left his body and he just couldn’t get it back in. his eyes were wide as he looked up at the circular opening above him.
All he could do was look. He couldn’t even breathe.
Then the air rushed back in.
He didn’t know where he was.
No one knew where he was.
His eyes franticly searched for any clues as to where he was. As to how to get out.
The opening was a circle.
From what little light the moon provided he could just make out the unmistakable lines of brickwork.
He found the well.
They were never going to find him.
He had to get out.
If he could climb out he could find his way to shore again.
He tried to sit up but he screamed instead.
Everything hurt.
He was starting to think he broke something.
He had to get out, but how could he if he couldn’t even sit up?
He looked around and found his phone nearby. He smiled, glad that it had fallen down with him and wasn’t still up above.
He reached for it but it wasn’t close enough to grab.
He tried to stretch his arm out a little farther, but he still couldn’t reach it.
He tried to lean in farther, but it hurt too much.
With nothing else left to do; he cried.

Twin Snowflakes 26: Preparation
[part 2 of 2]
Another day, another classroom bell. As far as Monday’s go, today was pretty harmless for Summer. Classes went by fast, Veronica only nagged her about what to eat for lunch, and P.E. was used for tournament announcements so she didn’t have to change. In a few minutes she’ll be able to walk out of the student council meeting and go home to escape-
“We’re all staying after school today, all of us.” Eliza said, filing papers.
Summer planted her head on the table. “Why do you hate me!? I’m nothing but kind to you.” She whined.
“Stop crying! Did you expect to go into the tournament performance cold turkey? This isn’t one of your concerts. Multiple things need to work at once. Which is why Harriet was kind enough to keep a platform up to act as a stage in the gym. You and your brother will have the band’s support.
Nick’s face turned to terror. He could see Summer’s face begin to get excited. “Summer, I know that look. Please remember that neither the band nor I are as skilled as you. Don’t go full dictator on us.”
She could only laugh and smile energetically. “That won’t be a problem if you hit the notes.”
“Not what I wanted to hear, Summer!”
Veronica got up from the table and packed her things. “You all have fun. I’m gonna get started on that outfit. The materials should be at your house by now.”
“Not so fast.” Eliza interjected, “Did you forget that you’re filling in on the cheer team? Their practice starts in fifteen minutes.”
“B-But my fabrics!” She gasped.
Eliza folded her arms confidently. “Sorry, tough luck. Harriet saw your moves and she gets what she wants. If only Amber didn’t twist her leg.”
Nick let out a snicker before hiding his smile from Veronica. Karma is a cruel mistress.
“I myself will oversee everything as best as I can while leading my own rehearsal. Don’t think twice to come find me, or the President, who should really be the one leading this meeting.”
“Nah you’re on a roll.”He smiled.
She gave him a glare before continuing. “Anyways, I also need somebody to let Valerie know the water heater is screwed up again and also that she should at least help with hauling supplies to Amity Arena; since she so rudely skipped this meeting.”
All of the council and other student body members turned to Nick instinctively. It was warranted but man did it blow. Summer glady stood up to take the bullet.
“I will tell her everything she needs to know, after rehearsals.”
“Works for me. Let’s move people! Time is ticking.” Eliza gathered her belongings and went out the door with the rest of the staff. Summer and Veronica gave him a nudge as they walked by. “You two still have enough time to do the outfit?”
“I fixed your sister’s uniforms in no time at all. I already have all her measurements I need so the annoying part is over.”
“What she said.” Summer added. “At this point I guess I’m being moved to wherever I’m supposed to be. Eugh, after school, even the name hurts my throat.”
“Think of it like this. We get to spend all day with Eliza!” Nick yelled out the door cheekily.
“I will answer none of your questions!” She yelled back, knowing she basically has to spend the entire day around Nick. She hadn’t told him yet but she was going to accept his offer. Her curiosity about his plan was too strong. The tournament was quickly approaching. Every step forward counts. Time to kick things into high gear.
Nick found the strength to leave the table and face judgment. “Alright, let’s get this pain over with.”
“Quit exaggerating! I will be a humble singing instructor.”
xxxxx
“COME ON NICK! YOU CALLED THAT A HARMONY!?” Summer was not humble, or quiet for that matter. “I know you can do better!”
Nick endured the criticism as he sipped his water. He was prepared for this but obviously the band wasn’t. Summer had everyone in their group scared stiff and onlookers watching in awe. This might be the first time they’ve heard her speak in school, let alone emote.
Her fiery nature was on full display and it’s intensity was higher than her ponytail. Free from uniform constraints, she wore compression tights and a thin long sleeved shirt that hugged her frame. Summer looked more sporty right now than she has in her entire school life.
The many eyes on the twins' practice didn’t seem to bother her. “Let’s take it from the top.” She grabbed her guitar and began to play immediately. A quick glare to the drummer snapped him out of his trance and got him to play, making the rest fall in line. Live practice was never a thing she did often. People ceased the opportunity all around the gym to watch magic be created before their ears.
Some legends are told, some turn to dust or to gold.
But you will remember me~
Remember me for centuries~
She nodded to Nick and he gripped his mic.
And just one mistake... is all it will take.
We’ll go down in history~
Their breathing synced up.
REMEMBER ME FOR CENTURIES~
Summer raised her fist, silencing the band. The performer turned towards her brother and band. A fraction of a smile crept onto her face. “Better. Not perfect, but much better.” She took a sip of water. “Not to be tyrant-”
“Yet here we are.” Nick said, earning a few laughs from the band and a glare from his sis. “What!? I’m boosting morale!”
“I know. It’s the only reason I’m not chewing your head off. Here I was about to compliment you too.”
“The biggest compliment you can give me is letting us finish the song completely. We’ve only gone about a fourth through it. Everyone knows this song.”
“Anybody can know a song but few feel it. I know you know this. The crowd at the tournament is gonna want hype and they’ll most likely sing along. Our job is to cultivate it to its peak. We are the opening of the event. I picked this song for a reason. If we come out firing on all cylinders then I know we can ride the wave through the whole song! Let me feel your hype, your energy!”
Nick pursed his lips. “If you want energy, then you let these guys have fun! Ice breaker time!” Nick spun around and pointed to the band. “Give me a funky beat!”
The members looked at one another, shrugging before kicking in a fun, funky classic; Billie Jean!
Nick let out the biggest “Yeah~” then started moonwalking around Summer. “Come on Summer, you can’t resist the beat!”
“Really? Of all the songs you think I’m just gonna-” She kicked her leg out and then twirled to the microphone.
She was more like a beauty queen from a movie scene…!
Nick hopped with joy before chiming in as the band jammed out. Eliza watched the two from off stage with her color guard troop in disbelief, joined by Veronica seconds later in her cheerleader uniform. Eliza waved her hand to her group. “Guys, take ten. I guess it’s break time.”
“Those two seem to be having a ball. They always like this with council stuff?”
“Hardly. It’s the only reason why I’m not yelling at them right now. Can’t remember the last time they looked happy to participate. They can laugh their lungs out as long as the work gets done. Might motivate the others. Anyways, how are you holding up?”
“Oh you know, as much as a newbie could be in this situation.” Veronica shook her pom-poms for dramatic effect. “Feels nice to do something like this again though. It’s like wearing an old glove.”
“History with cheerleading?”
“Gymnastics, my ribbon work doesn’t stop with a needle. That was some time ago but I digress.”
“I see. Well...you move like a pro.” Eliza said, a little stuttery. She played with her hands a bit while focusing on the twins.
Her elevated heart rate rang like a bell while her movements reminded Veronica of herself whenever she first met Coco Axel. “So...a little birdy told me I got a fan of my work here? Got any clue who?” She teased, enjoying Eliza's jump a little. Poor girl's cheeks went red.
Eliza felt a crushing betrayal. “Which twin opened their big mouth?”
“Is the ‘who’ that important?”
“Ah so it’s both?”
Veronica tucked her lips in. “Uhhh I won’t confirm or deny that. To think I’d have a fan all the way up in Atlas?”
“Please, we don’t have to discuss .”
“Why not? No reason to hide it. I’m honestly flattered by it. Civil rights movements don’t attract the right kind of like-minded individuals typically. Then there’s the obvious regional differences.”
“Huh? Regional differences?” Eliza tilted her head. “Have faunus here been giving you a hard time?”
“No, but that’s because I’m making zero effort to approach them. Faunus here as a whole are treated crueler than other places. An outsider like me coming in and trying to ‘relate’ never goes over smoothly.”
Eliza was surprised. She had never heard of that before. “Oh, I guess I was being a bit presumptuous. Apologies.”
“No it’s fine. It’s just one of those annoying little things. A lot of the preach about wanting a voice and equality but sing a different tune when those voices start speaking because they aren’t the ones those people had in their heads. Sigh, we faunus are fickle creatures.”
“Boy, sounds like you hate your job?”
Veronica laughed, “Haha! I wouldn’t go that far. Maybe it’s my unique circumstance but as far as my personal beliefs go, Faunus and Humans are basically the same. They both hate and judge others far too viciously due to bias. I may advocate for our rights, but I’m not above calling ourselves out. It’s probably why the elders especially don’t care for my efforts.”
Veronica turned to Eliza and smiled. “Sorry, rambled for a bit there. Hope I’m ruining your hero perception of me. That is if I am a hero to you?”
“No. Wait! I mean it’s not ruined! You’re definitely inspiring to me. So much in fact that I got a cool magazine cover of you!” It took a minute, but Eliza’s brain registered what she had just said. “I…why did I tell you that?” Eliza facepalmed.
Vee was in shock. Her jaw slowly fell open. “Wow, you are a total fangirl right now. I didn’t think you could look embarrassed. Ha, you’re adorable blushing!”
“Please don’t talk about it…”
“Can I see the magazine cover? I’ll be honest. I rarely pay attention to those puff pieces. My mom handles all that.”
“Really?” Eliza patted her pockets before pulling out her scroll. “It’s from your rally in Vale.”
Veronica had a peek. “Oh I remember this!” The picture was from a year ago. Vale’s rally was pretty huge and loud. The photo was taken right when she had stood proudly on top of a car with a megaphone, protesters following her to city hall. “Not to toot my own horn but look so cool in this.”
“It’s surprising you’ve never seen it.”
“My eyes are usually glued to my sketchbook or a threaded needle. If I’m looking at myself then it’s in the mirror to see how fabric falls onto me or someone else. Speaking of clothes, maybe I can make you an outfit? First one is free. Just wear it to an event; tell your friends about it.”
Eliza lit up, but then immediately started to cringe. “An event is no problem. However...uhhh, yeah, rain check in the whole friend part. A social butterfly, I am not. Don’t have friends.”
“Uh Nick and Summer?”
“Gross.”
Veronica could barely stop herself from laughing out loud. The speed in which Eliza answered was swift to say the least. “Wow, and I thought the twin’s aunt was blunt? Are you sure that message is clear to them, because I’m positive they think you’re a friend.”
“I’m friendly, but not a friend.”
“Do you have their number?”
“Yes.”
“Sad to say you’re their friend. Don’t fight it.”
“What!? That’s not how- what!? From what I understand you and Summer aren’t friends, but I’m positive you have her number.”
Veronica nodded. “Yeah, but that’s necessary for multiple reasons. Besides, we actively shit talk one another. I reckon you don’t. I’m not saying you three are tightly knit. Just that you’re close enough.”
Eliza folded her arms and huffed. “I suppose so. That’s...annoying.”
“Look on the bright side.” Veronica grabbed Eliza’s scroll to put her number in. “Now you aren’t alone. We can complain about their antics together.”
The grin Veronica gave Eliza made her Eliza sheepish. The abrasive girl took her scroll back. “That...sounds nice.” She laughed under her breath.
Veronica couldn’t stop examining Eliza. This girl was all over the place! It was a little funny, awkward, and yet flattering. “Is this how the twins feel meeting fans?” The young lady could get used to this.
“Your last name is Marigold right? I’m so used to such a fierce expression that seeing you like this feels a bit unusual.”
“Used to? I take it you’ve spoken to my aunt then?” Eliza lit up.
“Not really. She’s been at events my mom dragged me to before. Didn’t speak with her directly but she looked pretty interesting. Her and my mom worked together before. You both and your father have some strong genes. I bet the mom must be jealous.”
“I...doubt it.” Eliza said, her tone drifting. The smile on her face faded back to neutrality. A silent breath escaped her lips while her eyes gazed into distance. Her change in attitude didn’t go unnoticed. Veronica’s ears fell watching her.
“Shit, did I...bring up something touchy?”
“It’s okay, honestly. I just wouldn’t know how my mom feels since...I’ve never had one.”
“Oh. I had no idea. Do you wanna talk about it or…?”
“Not really. It’s really not that big of a deal. You just caught me off guard since I’m used to people knowing that part of my life.” Eliza raised both her hands and gave her face a light slap to get out of her funk. Moping about nothing is pointless. Right now she was talking to Veronica, a person she admires! This was supposed to be exciting! “Phew! That’s better. Let’s change the subject. I don’t know much when it comes to fashion, but I have read about some of your involvement in contests.”
For a moment it felt like Veronica’s body had been hit by a truck. The muscles in her body constricted at once and her stomach felt queasy. “Have you now?”
“Just a little bit. It came up from time to time when I learned about your work with your mother. I gotta say your outfits definitely have your personality. More so than some of your contestants.”
“Heh, that’s not what judges think.” Vee uttered. “Not a first place prize to my name.”
“That may be true but that doesn’t make your designs less interesting in my opinion, but I know how you feel. It stings entering contests and sometimes not even making it to the end. Still, I really thought one dress in particular had it in the bag but…” Eliza silenced herself suddenly. She had forgotten the topic of this particular contest may not be light at all. “You...got disqualified?” She finished, cringing at her own stupidity.
“Yep. I got disqualified. No medal at all for that one.”
The air felt dead. Eliza clicked her tongue. “I had forgotten that part. The article never said why though, so it stuck out to me. If..if you don’t mind-”
“I actually do, a lot.” Veronica’s sharp response made Eliza jump a little. A few people passing by took notice of the aggressive tone, making Veronica mentally kick herself. “Shit, that wasn’t supposed to be so...I’m touchy about that day.”
Eliza waved off the comment like she was the one in the wrong. “It’s fine! I should’ve known better.”
“I guess we’re both even now huh?”
“Even!? I wasn’t trying to get back at-”
“Haha, relax before your heart explodes. It was just a tease.”
Eliza’s for got red. “Oh...of course.”
“You weren’t kidding about not having friends. I thought I was bad at small talk.”
Eliza held her head down. “I’m like a dumpster fire…”
“Ha, I can see that. I guess I’m fortunate to do speeches often. Easily the savior of my social skills. My parents are great but I wouldn’t say they aren’t the most elegant people in conversations. At least not ones that aren’t in front of a camera where they have to be. In a regular conversation they are as uncoordinated as they come.”
“I can see that. Yang’s sister does live here after all. She definitely has her own way of holding a conversation.”
“Pfft, that’s one way to put it. Just shake it off. We’re all kinda tone dead I guess.” Veronica laughed. This was fun. This was actually fun. Talking casually, who would’ve thought? She grabbed her water bottle to drink.
Eliza was also having a pleasant time. She was running low on conversation starters though. There had to be something that shouldn’t go horribly wrong. That’s when it came to her…
“So your head over heels for Nick right?”
Water sprayed out of Veronica’s mouth. How did each question keep getting her!? It shouldn’t even have been that bad yet here she was, choking over the most basic thing that everyone knew! Normally she hated being touched but feeling Eliza pat her back was gladly welcomed.
If Eliza didn’t feel bad before, then she definitely did now. “I am so sorry!” her voice was so spastic it would make Summer look calm. “I told you I’m terrible at this!”
“No, agh, no… this one is me!” Veronica coughed. “Damn, that really hurt my chest. It’s like the entire gulp went down the wrong pipe!” A few more coughs and another sip of water cured the promise. Veronica rubbed her chest and tearfully looked at Eliza. “Yeah I’m into him. Why do you ask?” Her desire to act like she didn’t nearly die was strong. “Wait, don’t tell me you like him too!?”
Water wasn't the only thing that was gonna be on the floor with questions like that. Eliza made a face that looked like she may have gagged out of spite. “Ugh, not a chance.” She folded both her arms aggressively.
“Cool, that would’ve been weird.” Veronica thought. Then Eliza began rubbing her chin. That was never a good sign.
“Weeeeeell…” Eliza said.
Veronica deflated like a balloon. “Here we go…”
“Huh? No! It’s not what you think. I don’t like him like that, or much at all really. However, I can’t deny he is...charming to put mildly. I can recognize that. As a whole, I don’t like Nick that much. There’s too much that grinds my gears. That said, there is a side to him I deeply appreciate. Don’t tell him that or I’ll deny it.”
Her tidbit made Vee’s cat ears wiggle. “You gonna leave me hanging like that? Elaborate a little.”
“Really? I didn’t want to diss him in front of you or anything.”
“Tah! Nick doesn’t need anyone coming to his defense and I’m not gonna bite your head off over an opinion, most likely.” She had to add that last part. Veronica doubted Eliza was going to say something that would be unapologetically mean but you can never know what a person could say. “Speak your mind.”
Eliza looked towards the stage to watch the council president in question adjust some light equipment to put on his sister. “That boy is...selfish in the wrong way.”
That sure was an answer. Veronica tilted her head. “I...don’t follow.”
“Nicholas Schnee is a people pleaser, yet he goes out of his way to do things on his own and inefficiently. He has the qualities of a great leader but doesn’t truly lead anyone. Instead he bends over backwards. This entire concert was his idea yet he chose not to fill anybody in on this for weeks; leaving us in the dark when we could’ve been further along. All that money, trust, and influence, yet I fail to see him use it with the care I know he knows how to do. It’s so annoying! Agh, I wish I had a fraction of what his name has.”
“Sounds like to me you’re a little envious?”
“A bit, but that doesn’t change my view of him. You know him. Am I wrong?”
“I’m the last person to judge right or wrong here, but I see what you mean. Nick definitely has his faults, no argument there. I told him the other day he was a bit pushy at times and overbearing. Still, I wouldn’t say those qualities are bad. Nick is… a man on a mission.”
The administration in Veronica’s eyes was clearer than air to Eliza. “Opinions aside, his heart is good. The love he has for family and friends is undeniably. I respect that.”
“Is that the part you deeply appreciate?”
Eliza shook her head. “No, that quality is a given. The side I like is one few people see. I witnessed it for the first time at a red carpet event several years ago. It was our first time actually speaking. I stubbornly declared I’d beat him in a tournament and show everyone how beneath me he was.”
“Wow, your social skills really are rough.”
“Cut me some slack. I was fourteen and cocky. Anyways, I expected him to laugh it off and give that fake smile he gives to the public. Instead, he gave this smug smirk at me and said ‘I can’t wait.’ It was actually chilling. I could tell from his eyes that he was threatening, no, intimidating me. He had no problem letting me know he wanted to take me down, and that’s exactly what he did on tournament day. However, right before our match, Nick took me to the side to chat. It was my first tournament. The anxiety I had was a plan on my face. Instead of using that weakness, he gave me tips to calm down. Having him focus solely on me in that ring was thrilling, different from his usual self. There’s an honesty about it I like. No way somebody can be nice all the time.”
It was for that very reason Eliza knew she had to hear Nick’s offer out. Whenever that look comes out, it spells trouble for who caused it. To think the plan involved beating Valerie? What could he possibly be up to?
Veronica rubbed her chin, intrigued. “So that’s your reasoning. Hmm.” She snapped her fingers and smirked. “Masochistic.”
Eliza bugged out. Her jaw dropped and she was seconds away from protest, until the snickering from Veronica let her know she was teasing again. A smile slowly formed and Eliza playfully elbowed Vee. “Shut up.” She laughed. “Talk about a mood killer.”
Veronica stuck her tongue out before breaking out into laughter when Eliza. Hard to believe the key to being social was being kinda bad at it? It was nice making a friend. Veronica didn’t say it but they were glad to be here.
Across the room, the gym door opened. “Well look who’s having fun!?” A voice bellowe, the condescending echo gaining everyone’s attention. To many’s displeasure, it was Darren sauntering in with his silent partner Max behind him. “Sounds like a real party here. Care if I join? Maybe shake things up a little?”
The upperclassman paced like he owned the place, watching. “Hard at work for my big day?” His eyes go to the stage. “Well if it isn’t the Jester of the School!”
Nick rolled his eyes. “Very original. I’d love to hear more of this comedy act but unfortunately the gym is closed for regular students. Please take your friend and your clown makeup somewhere else.”
“Pfft, you diss like a child.”
“Said the man who called me a jester.” Be it a deity or the universe itself, people should count themselves lucky Nick had high tolerance for stupidity. Darren’s presence was grinding it down however. Punches and nearly getting a friend hit by an asshole’s car did that to an individual.
Summer could see the sparks fly between the two. Grabbing the microphone from Nick with no hesitation, Summer took the lead. Unfortunately for Darren she didn’t have her brother’s tolerance, and she was on her favorite spot in the whole world. “You’re interrupting our practice and wasting my time. Beat it.”
The gym went silent. Did everyone hear that right? Summer Schnee...was rude!? Darren blinked twice, stunned. “Excuse me but, nobody was talking to you.”
“And nobody invited you. Scram.” She shooed him away as if he was a bug.
“Now is that anyone to talk to a superior? I don’t care how famous you are or what your last name is, you little princess. You just keep singing like a little songbird; it’ll be the only good press you get that day before losing to yours truly!”
Summer out of this expression of confusion. “And your name is…? Sorry, I just have a really hard time with faces when they don’t even rank in the top five.” Multiple ‘oooos’ and chatter started going. “Is Dean? Dunce? …..Dumb and Dumber?”
Max let out a simple “Hmph” while Darren got pissed. “So you got jokes huh?” He said through his teeth. It only took one step closer before Nick immediately stepped in front of his sister. Before either could give the audience a glimpse of tournament match l, Eliza flicked the lights off and on to gain everyone’s attention.
“HEY! Knock it off, all of you.” She demanded. Darren’s gaze came her way and towards Veronica by extension. Eliza took a step between the two, stopping a problem before it could start. “Na uh, eyes on me. One word to her and I might let Principal Coal know. May I remind you that after recent behavior it would behoove you to act like a respectable upperclassman, or else-”
“Hey hey hey there, little one, I just came in here to mingle a little; shoot the breeze and all. I’m not the one who got all bent out of shape and started insulting people. Ain’t that right Max?”
Unbothered, Max put his hands behind his head. “That is what happened; dumb jokes or not.”
“Yeah that’s- hey! You aren’t talking about my jokes are you!?”
Eliza took a deep breath. “Consider the breeze shot to hell. Now if you would kindly be on your way so-”
“Uuuugh, you’re so boring, acting like a lifeless doll and shit. Even her frail and tone deaf highness behind me showed some backbone for once.”
“Tone deaf!?” Summer yelled. She would’ve thrown her microphone if Nick didn’t take it from her. “Oh I really hope your bite is at least half as good as your bite. This ‘Princess’ thinks you deserve a public beat down for the world to see, personally delivered!”
“See you at the tournament!” Nick added.
Darren pointed behind himself. “See? At least they’re interesting.”
“If getting egged on by your limp insults is what you want then why should I even bother?” Eliza stepped to the side. “Best be on your way. You can earn my wrath whenever you feel man enough to enter a solo tournament instead of hiding behind your partner.”
“Oh yeah?” Darren glared. “Tough talk from a-” The back of his shirt was pulled by Max.
“Time to go. You’ve had your fun, and I’m getting a headache. No use talking. Let the tournament do all the bragging.” Max began dragging Darren to the exit until Darren brushed him off to walk himself. He gave Eliza one last pissed off look before giving a smug face as he walked away. “Tsk, drug baby.” He mumbles.
Loud footsteps and the sound of metal clanged behind him. Darren quickly turned around, ready for a fight. “Well I guess you can get ma-”He didn’t move. What he thought was Eliza losing her cool was actually her defending him with her baton from a very pissed heir with an Arma Gigas.
“He’s quicker than he looks.” Max grabbed Darren again and all but tossed him out the gym before any actions became an incident.
“Care to tell me why you wanna fight my battles?” Eliza complained.
“I’m not fighting your battles. My patience just got a little restless.” Nick unsummoned his blade and walked away. Thoughts of last night suddenly came to mind, making him sigh. “Sorry. Overstepped a bit. I’m gonna cool off.” He groaned.
Eliza rubbed the back of her head. That was...off. Nick must’ve been more ticked off by Darren than she was aware of. “Just don’t get so jumpy. The last thing I need is you not being able to kick his ass because you got suspended.”
“Haha yes ma’am.”
Eliza clapped her hands loudly. “Okay everyone! Get back to business!” She shouted, returning everything to normal. Thank the gods for at least giving Eliza cooperative staff members. Her body slumped over. Why can’t any event be peaceful! Damn that Darren! Now she wished he was in the solo bracket. Her head lifted to look at Veronica. “I take it if Nick heard that then so did you?”
“Little bit. I can pretend I didn’t. Makes no difference to me.”
“Don’t sweat it. Who likes beading around the bush anyways? You asked about my mom earlier. Now you basically know. To make a long story short, my dad in his younger years spent his money in...less than responsible ways. Who needs love when there’s plenty of clubs and corners with people looking to make a quick buck? My mother just so happened to get a little more than just lien.”
Veronica’s face scrunched up. “Yikes. That’s a lot to unpack.”
“Not really. Never had a mom so it’s not like I’m yearning for a connection when there never was one to start with. One day my dad noticed her pregnant and like you said before, I have strong features. A woman parading around with no home, every drug under the sun, and a potential baby that looked like the CEO of a company one kingdom above is a recipe for ruin. Many board members thought it best for my father to deny anything and everything. Apparently a few of them along with some kind individuals thought it best to move my mother in with him. This way the baby, me, would at the very least be healthy.”
“What about your mother?”
“Ultimatum. Fall in line with this new society and learn to act like a high class citizen, or take a generous amount of money to keep quiet. I don’t look like her so spinning a story wouldn’t do her well, and high class society didn’t mean she could get high any hour of the day. Took the money and never looked back. Tabs were kept on her for a while but she eventually became white noise among the gutter trash of Mantle. A druggie with tons of cash is never good. Most likely ended up in a gutter from overdose or somebody who caught wind of her spending habits.”
“Eliza that’s...I’m sorry that happened.”
“Eh, I’m not losing sleep over it. Not like I got a bad deal either. Contrary to what people might say about my name, my father is a decent man and cares for me as well. He’s by no means perfect but who is? Aunt May told me once that if nothing else, my dad doesn’t make problems bigger than what they have to be. I didn’t ask to be born, so resenting me would be shallow. We get along and that’s all that matters family wise. Though...it’s not like he got a raw deal out of it.” Eliza conjured a small flame in her hand. “He took the high road and learned he got Remnant’s first magical daughter in ages. Talk about good karma.”
“Way to look at the positives.” Veronica said.
Eliza put out the flame. “It’s just the facts. Unfortunately rumors floated and not all people were happy with the decision, so little tidbits here and there got learned. As you can see with Darren’s mouth almost getting him into trouble. The only thing bigger than his mouth is his ego.”
“Yeah, I’m familiar with his type.” Veronica said with annoyance. She was too familiar with it.
“Anywho, I should get back to practice. Thanks for chit chatting. And people say it’s bad to meet your heroes and stuff. I guess they’re meeting the wrong ones.”
“I wouldn’t go that far. I mean I’m pretty rad but you know...modesty and all that. I’m no Blake Belladonna or Yang Xiao Long. Just little ol’ me.” Veronica chuckled. “See ya around?”
“Sooner than you might think.” Eliza twirled her baton and went on her way.
Veronica watched the girl leave. No wonder Nick chose Eliza to be the one to keep an eye on her. She was tough as nails; with or without the uniform! A shame Darren outed her like that. Veronica felt a little dirty learning something Eliza didn’t want to tell her. Veronica was surprised that Eliza didn’t ask for her to return the favor. Then again, it would’ve been pointless. Veronica knew herself. She wouldn’t say a word regardless of fairness. She might have even lied. The girl let out a sigh, taking a moment to look down at herself before heading back to practice. Some things are just better left unsaid.

RWBY V08E05 - Amity
Tumblr media
Amity! A return to the adventures of RWB? With no Penny sadly. I doubt we'll get so many visual puns again but who knows, maybe they'll make friends with Whitley or at least have a cordial chat with him without killing each other. I have no idea, so let's do this!
Tumblr media
Wow, great start. Poor Pietro, got copypasted there with no regard for his feelings.
Tumblr media
I'm very glad I was wrong about no Penny.. Even if every second she's on screen increases the chances of something bad happening to her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why does the HUD look like someone used the wand from photoshop to extract it from a white background?
Tumblr media
Wait, are they going to blow up the Dust to launch amity into space?
Penny is right, that doesn't seem like a good idea but it's also incredibly in-character for the show. Now even caves are a gun.
Tumblr media
Someone at Rooster Teeth really likes the idea of little old ladies riding huge robots, and honestly? Can't disagree.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
hmmmmmmmm not a big fan of pietro at the moment
Tumblr media
oof, my heart
Tumblr media
Maria continues to be the voice of wisdom. Sadly, I doubt Pietro is going to listen to her.
In the original tale Pinocchio ends up learning by making bad choice after bad choice. Penny doesn't seem to have that much in common with her inspiration but if she hasn't ever been able to make a choice at all, would it be surprising if the first time she makes a choice it ends up being a bad one? It wouldn't surprise me if this is setting her up to fly away from Amity (against Pietro's wishes) once she notices something went wrong with everyone else (making her vulnerable)
Tumblr media
Welp.
Tumblr media
look at that poor girl
Tumblr media
Aaaa, that's the same expression she used when Ruby said Penny was still the Protector of Mantle. "my feelings don't matter, conceal, don't feel, don't let them kn— wait, never mind
but yeah, she's used to putting everyone ahead of her (because as a robot she supposedly doesn't know better, there's a reason that was her first thought when she was talking with Winter in last season)
Tumblr media
aw poop
Tumblr media
Cinder was moving so fast she left her shadow behind.
Tumblr media
Great deranged expression and voice though. Did she bring both Neo and Emerald or just the latter?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Penny yes
Tumblr media
Hey, 9 blades! For a second I thought they wouldn't remember that she lost one.
Tumblr media
no, no, no, time for what? aaaaa
Tumblr media
Now that we have more context, Cinder using her own experiences to know where to hurt people is * chef kiss *
Tumblr media
Intentional reference to the PvP fight?
Tumblr media
okay, I didn't expect badass Maria to actually fight using her robot but I blame my own lack of imagination
now I'm hyped, it also gives something the other two something to do.
I think the main problem here for the good guys is that if Pietro gets threatened there's no way Penny is not going to surrender. Although, maybe he gets kidnapped? That'd make him get "swallowed" by a whale... hm. Another possibility is that they threaten Pietro and Penny gets hacked "just in time"
Tumblr media
you can't lie to me, subtitles, I know she was going to say bitch
lol at crashing the entire ship into maria to get her out of the way
Tumblr media
bad mistake to hurt one of Penny's friends in front of her
Tumblr media
Did anyone give a job to poor Emerald? I can almost see Cinder telling Neo to distract people while in the ship with Emerald sitting in the back seat trying to get noticed.
Tumblr media
C'mon Neo, leave the old lady alone
Tumblr media
…of course she wouldn't leave her alone, she's Neo, she likes playing with her victims
Tumblr media
I wonder if Neo has a deeper plan than "killing this old lady while looking like her protege would be incredibly cruel and extra and therefore worth doing"
Tumblr media
If the drifting was an accident, where did Emerald go?
Tumblr media
waiting for the RWBY shmup
Tumblr media
I understand why she's leaving Amity (to prevent their fight from destroying it by accident) but leaving Pietro alone feels like a bad idea.
Tumblr media
…this HUD is a lot cleaner, I don't get it, it should be the same png overlay
anyway, took the screenshot to write "wow, Cinder is actually capable of thinking through her rage these days, good for her" but now that I think about it, I'm not sure if she's ever been fooled.
Tumblr media
booo
I wanted more evil Ruby
Tumblr media
Also, I'm literally loling at Maria yoda-ing Neo.
Tumblr media
ah yes, neo, so graceful
Tumblr media
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
mmmmmmm
mmm
Tumblr media
oof, looks like that was a direct hit. And the worst part is that the second James hacks into Penny, I assume it'll will work that way. Probably her worst nightmare.
Tumblr media
Yeah, no, this worked for spiderman because his nemesis wasn't right in front of him.
Tumblr media
I like the idea of this shot but for some reason the execution looks weird. Maybe it's just awkward positioning, it's hard to tell the angles.
Tumblr media
lmao
Tumblr media
* cough *
I mean, yeah, saw that coming.
Tumblr media
For a second I thought she was melting her face but then I remembered the one reason Cinder has that arm.
Tumblr media
I'm going to need a diagram to know what Emerald was doing.
Tumblr media
Yessss, no need for swords if you can make your own
Tumblr media
I really need to know what she was doing inside because right now it feels like that was the worst excuse ever to get her out of the fight until the last possible second (and maybe make it another reference to PvP when Ruby exits the corridor?)
Tumblr media
Did she finally see Pietro?
Tumblr media
Emerald has so much faith in Cinder, sigh
Tumblr media
I wonder if before the end of the show Neo will get to stab someone with her umbrella. Maybe it could even be Cinder
Tumblr media
First time she gets knocked out?
Tumblr media
Cinder with a long spear only means one thing. Someone is getting stabbed
Tumblr media
Huh.
I hadn't thought about this until now but before this second I'd have said Emerald's semblance shouldn't work on Penny. Like, what part is she affecting to make Penny see the duplicates? But I guess it does work, somehow. Maybe reality gets processed through Aura.
Tumblr media
Fire spear vs laser, who wins?
Tumblr media
Giant laser wins
Glad that Penny is confirmed as the most powerful character in the show.
Tumblr media
Poor Emerald, two lines this episode and they are both "CINDER"
Tumblr media
Damn, she looks done with their crap.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And now she looks absolutely feral. Loving this.
I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop. If she gets hacked now, Cinder still wins. She wouldn't get the maiden powers but at least she'd stop the transmission.
Tumblr media
aaaaa
Emerald breaks my heart. So much love for someone who couldn't give a hoot about her.
At least Cinder seems to know her place with Salem, but I can't tell if she started like Emerald and got her love beaten down or if she just had different priorities after getting saved from what seemed similar circumstances.
Tumblr media
Ah, Neo. Now to add to her resume that she beat a granny only because she got distracted.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh, shut up, Pietro
Is this it? Is this where Penny "rebels"?
Tumblr media
Even after all that fight, I think this is the best animation of the episode so far. It conveys so much resignation and annoyance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think this is the first time this season RWBY makes me teary-eyed. She finally said it!
Tumblr media
This is too cute for this world.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Remember when I said that hug with Ruby felt like a goodbye? Well, this is much worse.
Tumblr media
Wooo, she succeeded! (I hope, they did mention the message was a couple of minutes long)
But I'm also even more worried now because it feels like the one last thing she had to do.
Tumblr media
They are back!
I wonder if the one character I miss the most will also get a shot.
Tumblr media
Pensive Whitley? more likely than you think
He has a lot of potential, especially now that Salem -> Cinder -> Emerald are a thing, making cyclical abuse more of an explicit theme. Not sure if there's enough time to do him justice though, considering he's not much of a character.
Tumblr media
"we don't want to reveal Vacuo yet, what do we do?" "put them in the desert"
Tumblr media
Yessss, Ilia got a cameo!
Tumblr media
Are they pulling her back from voiceless purgatory?
Tumblr media
Holy shit, wow, really didn't expect to see her.
Tumblr media
Literally a pet. I wonder where the hound falls in the hierarchy
Tumblr media
...why is she so happy? She's not supposed to be happy!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh
yeah
was expecting this
Tumblr media
Poor guy, I wonder if this is the first news he gets from her daughters.
Tumblr media
Taiyang made me realize they didn't show Yang's team. Huh.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh, fuck you rooster teeth.
Tumblr media
Fuck oofffff (RT, not you, Pietro)
Tumblr media
Is Winter end up doing the right thing? She's obviously affected by seeing Penny's sword there.
Also, I wonder if her new armor is just that or if it's a bracing system to help her move so soon after getting beat. But I guess that wouldn't be necessary if her aura helped her heal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hopefully, if Watts escapes and tries to get everyone else to help (since I doubt he can beat all the guards on his own), Qrow shows he learned his lesson about trusting the enemy.
Tumblr media
ah, there you go
Tumblr media
Okay, this is an amazing reveal. Is Salem transforming Mantle into another land of darkness? Because that'd definitely explain why she was so unworried about the broadcast.
Tumblr media
What a way to end the episode. A brief moment of hope completely destroyed, twice.
Penny has been raising so many death flags that her inevitable hacking lacked some impact. I'm still sad (and annoyed at RT for poor Penny being a magnet for suffering) but Watts being Watts maybe he did a bad job just to prevent Atlas to escape? And Penny seemed able to resist? aaaah, I don't know. Now that the hacking finally happened all the foreshadowing is over, anything could happen.
The worst part of the hack is that it modified Penny's thoughts. It wasn't a complete takeover, like with Pietro, it was a lot more insidious. Literally making true what Cinder told her. Ugh.
Looking back at the screenshots, wow, a lot of the episode was just them fighting, but there were some fun moments, like Maria kicking Neo's ass.
Very curious about where it's going. Both the Penny plot (there's absolutely no way hacked Penny doesn't fight Ruby, there's probably a rule written in the universe about having mind-controlled people fight their loved ones) and the river of Grimm which was an excellent secondary gut punch. Really, loved that reveal. "You thought things were bad? lol"
I think that's all for now, until next time!

Moonlit Masquerade: Ch 8
On Friday Amity is tired, but she relishes every minute she spends at school and not home, because the weekend was looking to be just as exhausting.
Blue moon masquerades are a Blight family tradition, her parents have been throwing the parties for as long as she can remember and it’s a tradition that they begin throwing these parties at sixteen. With this being the first blue moon since the twins turned sixteen it's finally time for them to do it.
Normally the two are all about parties, but considering all the rules and protocols their parents have set for the event, any enthusiasm the twins might have had is well and truly dead before the party planning even begins.
Now it’s just one more thing expected of them and Amity can tell how much they hate it, so she tries to help them with the planning whenever she can.
Someday it will be her turn after all.
She also still has yet to speak to Luz since Wednesday and she feels bad about it, but facing her is too hard right now, especially when the object of her affections seems to actively pushing her toward this secret admirer she has.
She clutches her book to her chest as she walks down Hexside’s quiet and deserted hallways.
Maybe Luz is just a pipe-dream she needs to try and forget about. She was never going to have the courage to face her and tell her how she feels, and if Luz had any inclination toward her at all she wouldn’t be advocating so hard for a mysterious stranger.
Her lips quiver and her eyes burn but she quickly shoves it down. She is not going to cry at school, she’s a Blight!
A mantra she uses to steel herself even as she hates it.
She shakes her head and continues on toward her locker.
When she stops to stand in front of it the creature looks annoyed and she realizes why when it opens its mouth unprompted and sticks out its tongue.
She's started to get a little more used to these surprises but the one waiting for her this morning makes her gasp.
Sitting there on her locker's tongue is a small maroon colored velvet box she knows immediately is a jewelry box. A piece of folded paper sitting beneath it.
She hesitates a minute before picking up the box and the note. Curiosity gets the better of her and she opens the box before anything else and stares wide-eyed and mouth slightly agape.
Nestled within the satin lining is a brooch.
Fine lines of gold shaped to look like thorned vines twist and loop in random but pleasing patterns, overlapping each other in places. At the center of the vines is a small tear-shaped gemstone in a gold setting. She's not sure what kind, but it's a deep fuchsia color that sparkles and gleams when it catches a stray beam of light from the hallways overhead lights.
It's beautiful and Amity is in awe of it as she pulls it from its box with hesitant fingers and holds it gently in her hand. She runs her thumb over the hard and smooth facets of the stone, feeling the different, sharp cut sides press into the pad of her thumb.
The metal is cool and hefty in her fingers and her heart thuds in her chest that someone would go through all this trouble for her.
It's a common misconception among the student body that Amity Blight must be beating suitors off with a staff, but the truth is no one had ever pursued her.
Her family was highly influential and well off, everyone assumed she was above them, unattainable; so they didn't try. Not that she’d done much to change that opinion.
Of course, when it finally does happen she's head over heels for someone as unattainable as people think she is…
With gentle fingers she puts the jewelry back in its box and finally turns her attention to the piece of paper, unfolding it.
"Amity,
When I saw this in the market I could only think of you. I hope you like it. This is my final gift as your secret admirer.
Even if you can't return my feelings, would you dance with me tomorrow night?
I'll be wearing a black and purple horned demon mask.
~Your soon-to-be-not-so-secret Admirer
Amity's heart is thumping loudly in her chest, the meaning of the letter is clear. Her secret admirer is going to be at the masquerade tomorrow night.
She clutches the box in her hands and bites her lip.
Maybe… this was her chance to let go of Luz…
Her heart aches at the thought, but her mind knows that it would be the better choice.
Luz is human and while it's rather uncertain right now if she'll ever actually leave the Boiling Isles since the only known portal has been destroyed, Amity's parents would have an aneurysm if they were to ever find out she was in a romantic relationship with a human, the Owl Lady's apprentice no less.
Despite that, if the opportunity presented itself Amity would still leap headfirst into it without any reservations.
She's never known anyone like Luz in all her life. The girl is kindness and sunshine incarnate, something exceedingly rare in a place like the Boiling Isles.
She’s made her a better person in the time they’ve known each other.
Looking back now she finds it hard to believe that she ever hated her.
She looks down at the maroon box in hand and frowns, chest tight. Conflicted emotions run rampant through her mind
For all the things she loves about Luz, of which there are many, she knows that she'll never have the courage to tell her so, and Luz has made it clear in just as many ways that she doesn't see Amity in the same light, and at the end of the day, all her longing and feelings are for not if Luz doesn't return them.
But here, in the palm of her hand, she has a chance at something that might be real and not just a flight of fantasy.
She takes a deep breath and puts the box and note in her bag and heads to class.
She doesn't see Luz at lunch, for which she is grateful but disappointed. She sits with Willow and Gus when they wave her over.
"Hey, Amity, have you seen Luz today? We missed her this morning," the plant witch asks. Amity frowns.
"No, I haven't seen her all day."
"She must not be at school today…" Willow frowns.
That's unusual, Luz loves school. Amity wonders if she's sick, but in the back of her mind, she wonders if Luz is avoiding her.
She looks down at her lunch and is suddenly not very hungry, but she stays and chats with Gus and Willow.
~ ~
Luz probably should have told her friends that she decided not to go to school today in order to have more time to get ready for Saturday night, but she’s on a deadline, there was no time to go to the school to tell Gus and Willow. She really needed to get a scroll.
She only has one real problem left.
Hiding her ears.
If either of the Clawthorne sisters had magic it would be an easy thing to cast an illusion spell over her ears, but they don't; so it's not.
She's been leafing through Eda's various magic books, searching for a practical solution to her problem.
So far, no luck.
"Ugh!" Luz groans, shelving the books and stalking to her room, grumbling under her breath. "Why couldn't I have been born with a bile sac!?" she laments, dropping face down onto her sleeping bag.
She’s running out of time and unlike the way she handles most things, no plan, full steam ahead and flying by the seat of her pants, she needs to have this figured out before the party or everything was going to be for nothing! Now wasn’t the time to sharpen her improv skills.
She has her clothes and her mask, they were easy. She was pretty pleased with herself on that front.
“Aghhhhh” she yells into the fabric before she ran out of air and was forced to flip over onto her back.
Her time is ticking away and she can’t waste anymore with her frustrations. With a sigh, she hauled herself up and looked around her room, spotting the book about ancient, wild magic Amity had leant her and leaned over to grab it, dragging it into her lap and flipping it open.
She quickly leafs through page after page, hope waning as the minutes turn to hours and the next thing she knows the orange rays of the sunset are leaking through her window.
She sighed and twisted around, trying to relieve the pressure in her back from sitting hunched over the heavy tome for so long.
Maybe she could wear a hat, would it be okay to wear a hat?
She tiredly flips another page and scans it quickly as she reaches for the next but stops.
In front of her are some illustrations of witches, but unlike other images in the book, these ones have what look like glyphs drawn on their skin; tattoos maybe?
Some of the book is written in a language she knows and some of it is not, and this section is, of course, not.
But the longer she studies it the more an idea forms.
She sets the book aside and scrambles to her bag for a pen.
With one in hand she moves back over to the book The studies it again before laying her hand flat against its pages.
Steadily she draws the illusory glyph she'd been experimenting with across the back of her hand. She observes the final product and hesitates.
This could be dangerous.
She doesn’t allow the thought to take up much more than a few seconds of her time as she slaps her other hand over the glyph and willing it to do what she wants.
Her hand is enveloped in a light blue glow and when it fades her hand is tipped with long claws, the glyph still visible on the back of her hand.
She flexes her hand tentatively and slowly a grin begins to split her face.
“It worked… It worked!” She jumps up with an excited whoop. She licks her thumb and rubs at the ink, as soon as the circle is broken the illusion fades with the same soft blue glow as before. She takes her pen and closes the circle back up and casts the spell again, and again, her hand transforms.
Giddy energy is filling her to near bursting as she shoots out of her room and runs into the bathroom.
It's an hour later that King is banging on the bathroom door.
“Other people live here and need the bathroom!” he squeals angrily, stomping his feet.
He almost falls over when the door suddenly swings open just as he’s pounding on it.
“Weh!” He stumbles, but catches himself and looks up, ready to lay his wrath upon whoever is hogging the bathroom but stops short at the sight in front of him.
“Well? What do you think?” Luz asks excitedly, but she doesn’t wait for his answer before bolting down the hall.
“Eda, EDA!” She calls pounding down the stairs and toward the kitchen, where she can hear someone moving around. Lilith looks up from her place on the couch as the girl passes and does a double take.
“What?” Eda grumbles looking up from the large pot of potions she’s stirring. “Where’s the fir-” she trails off when she actually sees Luz.
She looks totally the same.
Except where once her ears were round, they are now pointed like any other witch on the Boiling Isles.
“Wha-?” Eda looks at her wide eyed.
Lilith has followed into the kitchen to get a better look at the girl.
“Fascinating, how did you accomplish this?” She leans in close to get a better look. The illusion is seamless and if she didn’t know better she would have never guessed Luz wasn’t a witch.
“Well, you know that illusion glyph I taught you?” she asks and they nod. “Well, I was looking through this book Amity gave me and it showed wild witches with glyphs drawn on their bodies. So I figured I'd give it a shot!” she grins and reaches up to flick the tips of her now pointed ears.
Eda walks over and turns her around, brushing Luz’s dark hair out of the way, she can see that  drawn on the back of both of Luz’s ears are small illusory glyphs. The older with grins.
“Kid, you’re brilliant.” She ruffled the girl's hair and Luz beamed.
“Thanks, Eda.”
“And think of the scams we could pull with this!” She grins and Lillith rolls her eyes.
Luz just chuckles, not even a little surprised.

Losing Hope
Prompter: @idiot-cheesehead-archenemy
Prompt: Tucker is turned into a vampire
Length: 1718
Warnings: Implications
The motel room was cold and smelled like something had recently died in it. Yet this place was one of the few he could afford with his meagre savings and lack of ID. Here he could hang out until he could fix what was wrong with him.
It would be a while before anyone would even look for him. His parents believed he was sleeping over at Sam's while his friends believed he was at home sick. School had let out two weeks ago so there were going to be no nosy teachers questioning his whereabouts. He was home free.
Tucker Foley threw himself onto his bed. It creaked from all of his weight. He threw his bag against the wall, accidentally ripping part of the old floral wallpaper. The comforter smelled of mould. He was almost afraid to see the sheets beneath. At least it meant that maids don't come up here often. He wouldn't be noticed if he snuck back in...
He picked up the old remote on his bedside table. Half of the buttons were stuck, but it would have to do for now. He turned on the television.
The news was airing another ghost attack. Lance Thunder looked just as uncomfortable as ever.
“Well Amanda, the creep crate is attempting to rob the antique store once again. The Fentons are trying to subdue him. There is still no sign of Phantom.”
Behind the reporter, the Box Ghost was running as fast as he could. A box full of old clocks floated behind him while Jack Fenton chased him with a Fenton bazooka. Every time he shot at the blue ghost, he missed. It was laughable. Danny leaves them the weakest ghost and they still couldn't catch it!
Danny...
It wasn't fair! How come Danny managed to get the cool powers and keep his humanity? Danny got to be the world-famous hero, but Tucker would have to spend each and every day trying not to murder anyone. Why couldn't Sam had been bitten by her creepy friend instead of him? At least the style would have suited her! Why did Tucker always get the short end of the stick? Was this punishment for some awful crime he couldn't remember?
Tucker felt the bitterness creeping through his soul. That wasn't good! He needed to focus on something else before his powers went out of control. Who knew what horrible ability would make itself known? Besides, Jazz always told Danny that good things come to those with a positive attitude.
He changed the channel. A cartoon about a giant mouse and a cat was playing. They were going on some sort of adventure. It was the type of show his grandma used to put on when he was little. It was stupid and mindless, the perfect escape from his panicked mind.
He kicked his shoes off, leaving them to unceremoniously fall onto the floor. He thought about switching into his pyjamas, but what would be the point? He probably wasn't going to get much sleep at night anymore. His body needed to get used to his new needs.
Suddenly, there was a loud banging on the door. Tucker jolted upright, fear coursing through his body. Was it the police? How did they manage to find him?
“Room service!” The voice sounded like the high pitch Danny used to imitate Jazz.
“It's three in the morning lady!” Tucker yelled back, “Go away!”
The person who was most likely Danny, could not be deterred. Instead, the banging became louder and more frequent.
“Go away, Danny!” Tucker yelled. It was still dark out. He still may have those urges. The thought of accidentally killing his best friend only added to the rising panic attack.
And annoyed Danny Phantom phased through the wooden door. In his left hand was two paper bags with the Nasty Burger logo on them. In his right hand, he was balancing a tray of drinks.
“Really Tucker?” Danny rolled his eyes. The ghost boy summoned his transformation rings, “Why did you ru-“
“Stay in your ghost form!” Tucker yelled. The runaway wondered if he had woken up anyone. He hoped they would take him as a normal dude and not come down to investigate.
“Okay.” Danny placed the tray on the side table. He threw one of the greasy bags at Tucker before sitting down on the bed.
The runaway peeked inside the bag. Danny had bought him three burgers and filled the remaining bag full of fries. There was enough food to last him a day or two if he was careful. At Tucker's surprise, Danny smiled.
“Valerie was closing. When I told her I was ordering for you, she filled the bag. I think she may have developed a crush on you Tucker.”
Pain seared Tucker's heart. Why did he have to go on that stupid date?
Danny gracefully sat down on Tucker's bed. The two ate in silence, pretending to watch the inconsequential adventures of the cartoon rat and cat.
Inside his mind, Tucker was falling apart. He knew his best friend would try to convince him to go home, but Tucker could never go back again. Danny would try to find the positives, perhaps even suggest Tucker become his own superhero. Yet the ghost boy didn't understand the intense longing Tucker had every time he looked at a human.
Danny seemed to be deep in thought as well. He was frowning, and every so often he would narrow his eyes or cringe. It was like he was having a war within. Finally, Danny decided to speak.
“As much as I am enjoying watching whatever this is... We need to talk.”
We need to talk...
It sounded like something Sam would say. Her influence was rubbing off of Danny too much. Briefly, Tucker wondered if Danny would be embarrassed if he mentioned it.
“Why did you run away? Did one of the ghosts threaten you?”
“NOT EVERYTHING IS ABOUT GHOSTS!” Tucker shouted, “SOMETIMES YOU REALLY ARE A FENTON!”
His best friend took a deep breath. Tucker could almost hear Danny counting down from 10.
“Tucker,” Phantom said, barely keeping the hurt out of his voice, “What happened?”
Unearthly green eyes met emerald. Neither of them found themselves backing down. Minutes past before Danny finally seemed to yield. Tucker should have known better. Danny always had been the most determined of the trio.
“If you don't tell me, I'll just bring you back home,” The ghost boy stood up and crossed his arms. Tucker knew he would stick to the threat.
“I am a vampire.” Tucker was careful to keep emotion out of his voice. Admitting his problem had a calming effect. It was like accepting a punishment one didn't deserve. With the calm came a feeling of hopelessness.
“So, Sam was right…” Danny's stubbornness deflated. Now he looked lost and unsure. It was bizarre to see such emotions on the usually cocky ghost boys face.
“My life is over. No cheerleaders, no movie theatres, no graduation, and no future career in technology. Now, do you see why I can't go home?” Tucker brought his knees to his chest. Part of him wanted to feel something. He just felt so... Empty.
“We'll think of something. Maybe there's a way we can refocus those powers or-”
“No Danny, Tucker interrupted, “I'm not half-vampire! I bear  the full curse! If you were in human form, I would have killed you! I barely stopped myself from killing the clerk. I’m a monster…”
“We will figure something out.”  Danny had always been the optimist, almost to a fault. Tucker knew it was only a matter of time before the vampire overtook the human. Then Phantom would have to subdue him.
“You can't be the only vampire... Maybe Vlad can help! He kind of looks like one...” Danny had started to pace back and forth.
“Or Vlad will use me as a weapon against you?” Tucker suggested.
Danny paused and gave an unimpressed glare. Then he noticed the clock on the wall.
“I have to go. I'm sorry”
“Patrol?” Tucker felt anguish streak through his heart. He needed his best friend! Couldn’t Danny miss one stupid patrol? Memories of a grieving and guilty Phantom flickered in the back of his mind. Tucker was being selfish again. Bad things always happened when Danny missed his nightly rounds. There was a reason Amity Park was one of the safest places on earth.
“Trust me, Tuck. Sam and I will think of something. Remember to shut your blinds. (Sam said sunlight hurts you.) Sam has a book that you might find useful.  See you tomorrow night!”
Within the next minute, Danny was gone. The vampire chuckled to himself as he cleaned the wrappers. If Danny thought he was going to stay put... Then he was way too trusting. Tucker would switch apartments for the rest of the night. Once the sunset, he would travel further away.
He couldn't burden his best friend with his mistakes. Danny already had the whole world on his shoulders with the ghosts. He didn't need any more difficulties. The hero couldn’t constantly watch him. If Tucker did massively screw up, which he undoubtedly would, the ghost boy would forever blame himself. The best thing to do would be for Tucker to leave.
After throwing away his and Danny’s wrappers, the teen grabbed his bag. He pulled out his cell phone and PDA. Tucker knew he should have left them at home, but he couldn't bear the part with his babies.
Here, Tucker needed to become a man. No one was going to solve his problems for him. Danny or the police will track him down (he cursed his stupidity for not getting rid of the find friends app). He turned the TV off and left.
He had to do this on his own. He would find a cure or learn to control his urges. He would go back to Amity Park. He would hug his parents, apologize to Danny and ask Valerie on a date. He would scream at Sam for setting him up with a vampire, and the two would be friends again. The trio would hunt ghosts like they used to. Everything would go back to normal.
He couldn’t lose hope.

Hiding The Devils Mark - PhannieMay - Day 31 Free Day
Summary: Danny’s a little too used to this kind of crap
Warning: corpse, mentions of taxidermy
Chapter 2. of Dealing With The Devil
Danny sits awkwardly on his bed, not exactly needing the whole sleep thing anymore. Flipping out his phone as he remembers Jazz. “Hey, you can sleep now” “Told you, you wouldn’t really have to worry. Well much anyway” “Well the talk went good but Dan showing up did not” “Dan!?! Are you safe? Are they? Is anyone? Please tell me he’s not just running around” “He's sealed away, again. Everyone’s fine, though the carpet has some new and very red stains” “Danny! That doesn’t sound like everyone’s fine!” “It wasn't from anyone alive Jazz” “God, that is disturbing and not what I needed for a good nights rest” Danny, chuckling, “at least you still get to have those” “We so need to have a talk about that humour of yours” “And that’s my cue to hang up. How about you just sleep better for the both of us” “Not sure that’s even possible Danny, but goodnight” “Yeah, night” Danny hangs up and opts to spend the night gaming, completely ignoring his everything for a time.
Danny frowns at his ghost-shaped clock, “well normally a Thursday wouldn’t be so bad but uh, all of this”, Danny gestures over his body, “isn’t exactly school material”. Flipping out his phone to text his now, most likely awake, friends. The two had pretty much forcefully become very early risers, to deal with whatever bullshit well before school. Not even bothering with punctuation, “My room frying pan with extra sauce parent approved” - d “Dude, fuck your life” - t “It’s the death of me” - d “You’re both awful, and I’m already here so beam me up Scotty” - s “Now see that was awful”- t Danny, invisibly, sticks his head out and sure enough, Sam’s there. Floating down just as Tucker arrives, grabbing both of them. “Dude, little warning. Especially after last nights bullshit”. Danny talks as he drops them in his room, still invisible, “Tuck, what?”. Sam rolls her eyes at the air, “pretty sure Dan got out, that or someone is a real ass. We’d been seeing him out of the corner of our eyes for like two hours”. Tuck nods, “very creepy. Did not sleep. Do not recommend Dan as a sleeping pill”. Danny though annoyed at Dan once again can’t help but laugh, “I’m pretty sure you got the more pleasant experience. Pretty sure the living room is horribly stained and my parents are probably traumatised”. Sam crosses her arms though clearly worried, “ok spill, what happened? And could you cut out the invisibility, we already know you look weird; extra sauce thing is always an “I look fucking weird or more ghost than normal” type of thing”. Danny rolls his eyes as Tuck questioningly taps on his own canines, “Tuck it’s way more than fangs. And the rundown of the night is grade A fucked. Even more so when the least fucked up or weird thing to happen was me literally dying”. “Uh don’t you basically do that everyday dude?”, Danny laughs his ass of at that and losses his invisibility. Scaring the crap out of both of them, “dude holy fuck! Uh, nice hair?”. Sam winces a bit, “ok the Dan hair is plain unpleasant, making your hair like that is probably the most petty thing he has ever done”. Danny glares a little, “ok I think there’s a slight misunderstanding here”. Danny sits on his bed, rubbing his neck a bit, “guys when I said literally dying, I meant it. Like, my human half was literally murdered. Which I’m pretty sure doesn’t qualify as petty. Especially since he showed up again to beat me with my own damn corpse, in front of my parents”. Both of them stare at him for a bit hoping he’s kidding, Tucker’s the first to speak as they clue he’s not, “dude, what the fuck. You mean you’re a full ghost now? Completely dead?”. “Fuck Danny, what are any of us supposed to do with this?”, Sam and Tucker both sit down next to him. Danny’s ears flick down a little, “yup, completely fucked. Very dead and fuck if I know. Oh and to add more to the pile, CW showed and you’re looking at the new ghost king”. Tucker weakly smacks Danny on the back, “king thing is almost expected dude but everything else is completely screwy”. Shaking his head, “but I’m guessing, since you’re still at home, the rents reacted not horribly?”. Danny smiles at this, “sure I had to turn off the lights and shit so I could explain before they saw me but yeah. Complete acceptance, dad’s honestly more curious than anything”. “Good, we all knew they would but Danny, is this just how you look now?”, Danny can’t blame Sam for being bothered by the hair. The rest is much more general ghost crap, but white flaming hair is very Dan. Running his hand through the flames a little, “yeah, stuck with it. Not exactly impressed but really? Can any of us really be surprised? Dan is me, sort of. So looking like him isn’t really unexpected”. Both of them nod, though Tucker wiggles his fingers in Danny’s hair as he speaks, “well at least it doesn’t burn, currently anyway. The town is going to freak and, oh fuck, school dude? Full ghost means no human form?”. Danny shrugs, “I know, but Dan can make himself look like human me so maybe I can too. Bastard did that in front of my parents too. Can’t say I’ve been successful thus far though”. Sam nods thoughtfully, “well how much can you cover up? Makeup will do for the skin, clothing over the suit but everything else?”. Danny smirks and yanks the same beanie over his hair and ears, and points at blackout sunglasses, “I’ve got nothing for the teeth though. But I can just not open my mouth very wide...”. Tucker pokes at Danny’s very obvious glow, “and ghostdeglow for that I’m assuming”. Danny rubs his neck awkwardly, “if my parents can make more, yeah. Not really any left now”. “Contacts are another easy fix for the eyes, you just have keep them from glowing. Voice though”. Danny’s only response is a shrug, cause there’s really nothing long-term for that. But thinking about his parents' initial reaction, “ghost flu. Works short term and no one in Amity is going to question that. If I can’t make myself human looking and sounding, I'm fucked though”. Both them nod again, as all three flop back to lay on the bed. “And there’s the whole can’t sustain myself out of the zone for more than few days issue. Which I guess we don’t even know is for sure yet but still”, all three jolt as Maddie knocks on their door. Danny sits up a bit, “yeah?”. Maddie sticks her head in and looks at his friends, Tucker’s the one to answer, “we’re just making him human passing, school is still a thing after all”. “You’re doing that by laying on the bed? And I’m not sure that’s even possible”, Maddie eyes Danny a bit. Danny smirks, “both of them have passed themselves off as me before. Less drastic but still”. Sam grins and slams a Danny wig on him for emphasis, making Tucker chuckle, “ok that looks very weird over blue skin!”. Maddie shakes her head, laughing, “you have a wig specifically for this kind of thing? Jack would be calling you a sneaky genius again”. The three grin goofily at her while Danny asks, “need the ghostdeglow stuff though, so I hope that stuff is easy to make. Hopefully, I can take a human looking form so once I figure that out I shouldn’t need it anymore”. Maddie nods by then grimaces, “like what that thing did. To look like you, human you”. Danny nods which earns a curt nod from her, “well the ghostdeglow will take at least an hour but that’s do-able”. Danny smiles at her before she leaves. “Man Dan is an arse”, currently Danny couldn’t agree with Tucker more.
After about an hour of packing on makeup, “well that’ll probably work. But it’s really obvious you’re caked in make up, painfully so”. Danny glares at her, “yeah it damn well feels like it. If anyone asks, ghost flu makes your skin green and I wasn’t going to school like that”. Sam snickers as Danny throws on the same turtleneck and a pair of jeans, searching for some gloves. Danny’s adjusting the beanie over his wig, to fully hide his ears; when Maddie knocks again. “Done, Sweetie. And oh wow. That is way more convincing than I thought possible”. Danny smirks at her as she hands him the spray can thing, “welcome to the life, or un-life in this case, of having a secret identity”. Maddie only laughs as she heads back down. Promptly giving himself a good spray down and checking himself out in the mirror, “well damn, this might just work. But yeah it looks like I face fucked a jumbo makeup palette or whatever”. Earning chuckles from both of them as they all head downstairs.
“Son? I thought you couldn’t be human anymore?”, this makes all four of them laugh. Maddie composes herself first, “Jack dear, it’s a disguise. A scary good one apparently”. Danny lifts up his sunglasses to prove the point while snickering at his dad’s clearly impressed face, “Wow you are turning out to be the biggest genius in the family, just applied very differently”. Danny laughs while Sam and Tucker talk simultaneously, “he’s a moron”. Both his parents raise their eyebrows, as Sam smirks, “he’s swallowed at least six sporks accidentally and constantly forgets that dodging is a thing”. Danny shrugs as everyone sits down for breakfast, which he really only eats because it’s routine.
“Wow Fentit, I didn’t think your “fashion” sense could get any lamer”, Danny rolls his eyes at the sound of Dash’s voice, though hoping Dash doesn’t try to pry anything off. Danny can’t help but find it weird to have to force himself to be quiet. Instead just flipping Dash off, as Paulina comes up snickering, “wow, I never took you for makeup. I’m not sure whether packing on so much is impressive or sad”. The two A-listers don’t even get a chance to do anything as the trio just slides into class, with Mr. Lancer coming in early as usual. Unfortunately for Danny, Mr. Lancer calls on him to read, “I’d really rather not”. Nearly everyone snaps their heads toward him as they hear his voice, Star is the one to pipe up about it though, “what’s wrong with your voice? No way that isn’t some ghost-related thing”. Danny groans, “ghost flu, and no it’s not contagious”. A couple people make faces at him but Dash snickers, “I think Fenton should read”. Danny glares at him through the glasses, while Mr. Lancer asks him, “if it’s not bad for you, then, yes please read”. Danny rubs his neck as he reads while some snicker at his echoing voice.
“Well that was uncomfortable”, Tucker can’t help but snicker at Danny’s complaining. “Dude, you know your voice actually sounds good right? Ghostly, but powerful”. “Tuck Buddy, I’m damn well aware. If my voice wasn’t powerful sounding that would be weird. Considering everything, not a very good thing right now though”, Danny cringes a bit as some random kid does a double take at his voice. Groaning and talking much quieter, “yeah I so need to work on the voice changing thing. If I even can”. Sam nods at them as they join her for second class.
By third people were asking Danny to say random shit, Danny was only obliging because it seemed to put Dash off from bullying him. Come lunch, saying “I’m Batman” for the tenth time was getting very old though. Danny’s luck only goes downhill after lunch. Sitting in sixth for his second class with Mr. Lancer, as his ghost sense goes off. Sticking his hand up as Mr. Lancer shoos him off, “normally I’d say no and you’d leave anyway, but I’m not questioning it today”. Danny does genuinely appreciate that, until the ghost comes into the classroom and everyone starts freaking out. Danny glares at the laughing Technus, with an arm full of old calculators, “you have got to be fucking me”. Danny only glares harder as Mr. Lancer turns on the ghost shield and starts ushering the class out, while dodging flying electronics. The rest of the class just books it out of the school while Mr. Lancer tries to get Danny to hurry up, “Fenton now is not the time to be daydreaming!”. Danny glares at him, and just tries coming up with a good lie, “I’m not, I just can’t leave. Ghost flu doesn’t exactly react well with anything anti-ghost”. Mr. Lancer gapes at him so he proves his point by knocking on the, very solid for him, shield. Before having to yank Mr. Lancer out of the way of a blast. Glaring at the busted to Hell door and practically dragging Mr. Lancer by his shirt collar, as they avoid more calculators and ectoblasts. “Child! Why do you drag around the old man!”, Technus is genuinely confused as Phantom doesn’t usually want humans involved, but he also feels somewhat cautious because something about Phantom feels different. “Oh I don’t know, maybe because he was trying to get me to leave and then you pulverised the poor door”, Technus lowers his arms and tilts his head at Danny over his voice while Mr. Lancer throws a desk at him, which he easily avoids. Danny turns and gapes a bit at his teacher, “why are you the one teacher here that will actually try to fight the ghosts? And why the hell don't you carry hunter weapons? They’re allowed and I’m sure they work better than a damn desk”. Technus nods a bit before shrugging and going back on the attack, he’s not sure what’s up with Phantom but he’s notorious for being strange. Mr. Lancer yelps and actually drags Danny out of the way this time, “I’m not about to let my students get hurt or be the targets, Daniel!”. Danny can’t help but laugh a bit, being the target was like eighty percent of his life or death, “I think I’ll be just fine Mr. Lancer”. “The child is correct! Everyone knows him to be more than capable! But today I, Technus, will be the capable one!”, Danny can’t help but glare at Technus and his stupid big mouth. He can’t help but glare harder as the wind Technus is stirring up with all the damn flying microwaves and shit, blows his hat off. “Things can’t be normal for even one day, can they?”, Danny full force throws one of the coffee machines at Technus, which hits him way harder than either actually expected. Danny has a feeling Technus only takes the hit out of shock at Danny’s exposed light blue and clearly pointy ears. And Danny knows that while Technus is a bit of a fool, he’s not an utter moron. Nobody moves for a bit as all the tech crap just falls to the ground, Danny’s a little weirded out that Technus looks sad and angry. “Who did this whelp”, Technus doesn’t hide the venom in his voice, none of them wanted the special little halfa fully dead, but someone clearly did this. And even Technus wants that person to have a very bad day. Danny blinks a bit, kind of weirded out, putting a bit of power into his voice because he really wants Technus to just go away, “no one any of you know, keep it that way”. The two stare each other down for a bit before Technus frowns even more, talking quietly for once before slipping through the floor, “sorry”.
Danny kicks at the random electronics as he goes to retrieve his hat, as he’s picking it up Mr. Lancer walks up behind him, “I’m not exactly sure what just happened but, ghost flu was another one of your, oddly good and creative, lies. Wasn’t it?”. Mr. Lancer keeps talking as Danny straightens up, Findling with the seam of the beanie a bit, while Mr. Lancer keeps talking, “no flu can change a persons physical body like this, and ghosts don’t behave like that to regular people, so what’s really going on?”. Danny groans, knowing full well he’s kind of fucked here as he puts back on his hat. Talking as he sits on one of the few not knocked over desks, while adjusting his ears under the beanie, “I’d rather you didn’t ask but I know you’re smart, so how about you tell me”. Normally Mr. Lancer would glare at his most difficult student but his gut feeling just left him feeling sad. Knowing this particular student would lie about pretty well everything, Mr. Lancer goes for blunt honesty, “somehow you died and now, are a ghost”. Sighing as Danny doesn’t even attempt a response other than shrugging, “Daniel, I’d rather know what happened and you’re officially excused from your other classes. Hell, you shouldn’t really be here, not even sure how you are. But considering this town, a causality was bound to happen and with your reckless parents; I can’t claim to be too shocked”. Mr. Lancer sits across from Danny and just waits for him to talk. Danny groans a little as he eyes-balls his, clearly not going to believe anything else or let this go, teacher; before folding off his sunglasses. Looking at him, Danny can tell Mr. Lancer’s trying to school his expression, sighing, “like I said, I know you’re smart. But in case you can’t tell, I’m trying to not have everyone know. At least right now anyway, things are complicated”. Mr. Lancer nods understandingly, “of course things are complicated. That’s death, even more so when ghosts are involved. But it is my understanding that not only should ghosts not really remember their human lives but also not still be trying to live them”. “I’m different. I’ve been partly dead for years, two to be exact. I lie to cover up ghost shit. I run off to deal with ghost shit”, Danny’s honestly rather annoyed but considering he still can’t make himself look human, he knows he might have to have this talk with a lot of people, eventually. Because obviously, completely covering up his full death was not going to work out, it hadn’t even been a full day and someone had already called him out. “You mean to tell me that electrical accident, which you played off almost excessively as being no big deal, partly killed you? If it wasn’t for the fact that, knowing your house, that shock was likely from something ghost related; I wouldn’t believe you. But I appreciate this rare moment of honesty from you”, Danny can tell his teacher means it. Mr. Lancer is always someone who cared, sometimes too much really. Though that did result in Danny having a bit of a soft spot for the man, nodding as he talks, “yeah, though my lies and secrecy were and still are necessary. It’ll all depend on certain things if this becomes public knowledge. With Technus, I highly doubt he’ll keep his mouth shut. So I know it’s likely already public knowledge in the zone but that’s expected and fine. Things are more touchy here”. “Well, you are clearly more mature than I knew. Which is honestly concerning Daniel. Care to explain why a high schoolers death would be such big news? Yes, you being a ghost and still in school might be more than a little problem but otherwise? Not to mention why ghosts would care?”, Mr. Lancer can tell Danny’s debating something in his head but judging by Danny’s facial expression, he isn’t going to lie. Danny smirks almost playfully, after fully deciding that lying at this point would just make him a complete ass, “I’m pretty sure not only Amity but the stupid GIW might just lose their heads, finding out that not only was the local town hero not fully dead and now is, but is also just some Highschool kid”. Danny’s not sure whether to be impressed or amused that his teacher goes wide-eyed as soon as he said “hero”. Deciding to humour his, honestly favourite, teacher; Danny lifts up his sweater to show of his flaming DP symbol before dropping it back down.   “Well, that is certainly not what I expected, though it does explain a lot. You’re right this will be a big deal, anything Phantom is. But I am not about to allow some government dogs to harm one of my students, even ghost ones”, Danny shakes his head and laughs a bit as Mr. Lancer gets up, fixes one of the kettles and makes himself some tea. “The GIW can’t touch me unless I let them, pretty much. I’m more worried they’ll interfere with my duties or harass my family. But if they cause too much of a fuss then yeah that will be a problem, their dumb antics have nearly destroyed the zone and earth more than once. It’s entirely possible they could instigate a war”, this makes Mr. Lancer cough a bit and stare at his student. Composing himself a bit, “I did not know those men were that much of an issue. It’s almost impressive how blind the government can be to things. And I guess they wouldn’t exactly listen to a teenager or a  ghost would they? Government officials do tend to put themselves on a pedestal, unwilling to listen to those outside their ranks”. “Many have tried talking to them, so no they won’t listen. Though with an entire town telling them off, maybe. But if things go bad with them, I won’t be giving them a choice. I rank above them and if they don’t listen, then they’ll pretty well have to deal with the entirety of the zone dropping on them. Like I said, war”, Danny shakes his head and frowns, knowing even if he didn’t give any kind of command, a fair amount of ghosts would lose their shit at a bunch of humans going after and insulting their king. Especially since Danny’s actually well liked, he knows even his enemies are closer to frienemies. But at the same time, a human vs ghost war is bound to make the Observants flip and no way he wants those eyeballs involved. But he also knows that they’re not dumb enough to be unaware than he’ll do whatever he can to make sure shit doesn’t go totally south. Even if he’s not a halfa anymore, he wants to protect both species and worlds. And honestly, a protection based obsession is a pretty damn good one if you ask him. Mr. Lancer sips at his tea, thoroughly impressed but also saddened by his strange student, “why would the whole ghost zone come to your defence? And I know you don’t work with the government, so whatever ranking you have they likely will not care”. Danny blinks and smiles a bit warmly, fiddling with the ring under his glove. Sure he didn’t have the crown yet but it may as well be official, “I’m well liked by pretty well every ghost, even my enemies really. It wouldn’t take much for them to come to my aid. But I’m more than just a student, ghostly hero and sort of ghost hunter. The other title I hold isn’t public at all, and preferably will stay that way, regarding the human world anyway, even if everything else comes to light”. Danny will admit he’s kind of enjoying being a startling enigma right now. It’s moments like this where he really understands ClockWork and it really is no wonder the two get along so well. Danny can’t help but smirk as Mr. Lancer is clearly egging him to go on, “Mr. Lancer, being some operative high ranking official or even being president of the United States itself; is nothing when compared to the king of an entire dimension. Especially a dimension filled with powerful creatures”. Danny actually has to catch his teachers teacup as he gapes at him. Chuckling again, “couple that with the fact that the only two beings in existence that are actually stronger than me, are either sealed away or forbidden from interfering unless there’s a word ending catastrophe, I’m sort of a big complicated mess that nothing else can really compare to”. Danny sighs as his ghost sense goes off, “well I’ve probably freaked you out enough for a lifetime and duty calls. But, uh, being all that I may be, I’m not some high and might prick and I’m concerned with keeping people safe. So, um, don’t worry?”. Danny cringes at Mr. Lancers stunned face a bit as he turns invisible and flies out the school, after phasing his disguise into his locker. Making sure not to use his intangibility full body/on his face. because his stupid makeup will come off. He knows whoever it is will be shocked by the hair but it’s a ghost, they’re all going to know eventually. He’s more worried about the town’s reaction, can’t fight in a wig though.
“You...want my human corpse? What the fuck? I guess I shouldn’t be surprised but seriously, what the fuck?”, Danny floats, bent over a bit as Skulker shrugs at him. “Still your pelt, whelp. And I’d say I’ve got the best claim on it”, Danny can’t help but gape at him. Promptly dodging a net and some harpoon thing, “pretty sure its owner has the best claim, tinman”. “Oh like you’re going to do anything with it, ghost child!”, Danny can’t help but admit he’s right, and the idea of having a funeral and burying himself is kind of really messed up and genuinely disturbing. However, “Skulk, can’t say I even want to know what you would do with it”. Danny snickers at Skulker looking disgusted and judgmental, shooting at Danny more aggressively for his comment, “you should already know full well. Like any hunter, I preserve my prizes”. Danny blinks a bit as he gets hit a couple times, he knows he really should get better at the whole dodging thing but it almost seems pointless. Sure it hurts but he’s way too durable for it to do real damage, “you want to preserve me? That is oddly sweet, Skulkie”. Danny feels almost honoured at Skulker’s clear mild embarrassment at being called out. But Danny flat out grins as he clues in that this could be a way to avoid the whole, how to bury his corpse without revealing he was dead or sticking it in the back yard. Because man was that creepy, but his body getting taxidermied is almost just as creepy. “Still very gross and creepy though, but you’re not exactly wrong”, Danny feels more creeped out as Skulker’s face clearly lights up. Skulker stops firing at him and glares at him eagerly, getting an idea because no way is Skulker keeping his pelt or whatever, not to mention being kind of curious if anyone knew about the king thing. Danny crosses his arms as he flies backwards in the direction of his house, “just take the damn pride in getting to preserve or whatever my “pelt”. Not keeping it though. If it belongs anywhere, it’s my castle”. Danny can’t help but laugh at the utterly bewildered look Skulker gets, “oh man that face is worth it. No point in you telling anyone one though, something tells me they won’t quite believe you”. Skulker is honestly more excited now, keeping his prize or not, this is basically a job for the freaking ghost king. Not too mention getting to work on such a unique and one hundred percent rarest pelt is beyond his obsessions wildest dream. Eagerly flying invisibly next to Phantom and not even caring that Phantom shoots him jokingly, Danny shakes his head, “you are such a damn creep sometimes. But at least I know you won’t be a disrespectful ass”. If there’s one thing Danny knows Skulker would treat with insane levels of respect, it’s his most sought after pelt. Which is both creepy and comforting. Skulker floats a safe distance away from the hunter family’s house while Danny invisibly digs through the living room floor, not having a damn clue how far down he phased his corpse. Frowning a bit at the utterly mangled bloodied thing, he almost can’t wait to see Skulker looking disgusted. Though he’s not sure if Skulker would be more disgusted by that being done to Danny or just by the not-so-pretty state of a “pelt”.
Floating out to Skulker, still invisible, “no ones to know for now you weirdo. You know how I love to be dramatic, CW will get his kicks too I’m sure”. Danny’s occasional dramatic and rather flashy nature is really one of the few things he doesn’t care that he had in common with Dan. “Whatever whelp, but very well. And wow I hope you beat the lights out whoever did that”, Danny nods frowning as Skulker gingerly takes in the shredded corpse; while they’re both hidden in an alleyway. “That thing is sealed away and being kept that way. He’s not from this timeline and he is not someone you should even try finding or going near. You met him in that other timeline, let’s just say you weren’t well off and you wanted him very much destroyed. So did every other ghost, that hadn’t been destroyed anyway, and what was left of humanity”. Skulker stares at him, “I’ll take your word then. I’m no fool, I know when you’re serious”. Looking back to the corpse, “it can’t be perfect but...” Danny tries to ignore Skulkers giddy grin. Rolling his eyes at him, “just get out of here before it’s spotted or before I hit you, again”. With that Skulker books it away, gingerly cradling Danny’s corpse.
Danny’s not too surprised his friends are waiting for him at home, “dude, the hell? Where’d you go?”. Sam and his mom both glare at him but he can see his mom is trying really hard not to laugh, “well, pretty much the whole ghost zone definitely knows, Mr. Lancer figured it out, and Skulker just flew off with my corpse. And what was so funny?”. Tucker actually laughs while Sam slams her head on the table and his mom looks horrified. Tucker wipes at his eyes a bit, “that is so something he would do but also just absurd, especially cause I know you just gave it to him, didn’t you?”. Maddie gapes at Danny as he rubs his neck sheepishly, “he had the guts to ask and he agreed to not keeping it. Just making it not look torn to shreds”. Sam snaps her head up, “taxidermy, nice. Honestly, you getting taxidermied is almost expected, very goth. I approve”. “How are you ok with that? How are any of you ok with that? And Danny the makeup is not helping this be less messed up”, Danny cringes at his kind of freaked mom. Rubbing his neck again, but phasing the makeup off above the kitchen sink. Washing it down as he responds, “we’re sort of used to all my weird mom, they’ve literally seen me get turned into jello and liquified. Skulker’s whole thing is that he wants my pelt aka skin. He’s a poacher and collector of all things rare and unique. It’s kind of hard to beat me in the rare and unique department. Plus I’m strong, so there’s respect there”. Tucker shrugs, “we’re pretty well sure Danny here is indestructible or something. Might have only been a halfa thing though so who knows”. “Aka I'm complicated and also, no offence or anything but I’d rather pass on the whole burying my corpse in the back yard or just leaving it under the living room floor. That’s way more creepy than getting it preserved, even if it is Skulker doing it”. Tucker laughs again, “and really dude, he’d probably rather destroy himself than damage or disrespect anything even close to being your pelt. He’s probably treating it like the freaking holy grail”. Maddie sighs while Danny smirks, knowing full well that Tucker is right. Skulker would probably destroy anyone who so much as even attempted to touch it, which was perfectly fine with him. Maddie pinches her nose as she plates everyone’s food, “I can see your point Danny and I’ll admit myself, just the thought of having a funeral for you is unnerving. Especially when you’re still walking around”. Danny frowns a bit through a mouthful, “agreed. But unless I can make myself look human or at least change my voice, there’s really no way to avoid Fenton dying going public; which means a funeral. Especially since I’ve already been called out on it”. Sighing a bit, “at least this way we don’t have to deal with someone asking what the hell happened to me, because my corpse didn’t exactly look pretty. And again, Skulker’s not keeping it so...”. Jack sticks his head out the lab door, “Son quick question, do you actually need to eat or are you just doing it because everyone else is?”. Danny blinks a bit though rather happy about the lighter topic, “I can still taste it so I can enjoy it just fine. Even if I don’t need it. Most ghost do still eat, just for the experience rather than needs”. “Well, it would be a bit awkward if you were the only one not eating sweetie, so thanks I guess? But if a funeral does have to happen then it’s closed casket, regardless of what state it’s in”, Maddie shivers a bit and glares at the, definitely stained, floor. Sam rolls her eyes at Danny’s slight green blush, “you are so extra Danny. I mean it’s very goth to display bones and taxidermy, but of your own body is almost masochistic and egotistical“. Danny shrugs at her, “um, guilty as charged? I rather like the notion of a reminder for pretty much everyone that I was human and part human, once. Not here though”. While his parents share a worried look, Tucker slams his hand on the table looking almost giddy, “dude Phantom, that’s right! Phantom Castle!”. Sam laughs, “well that’s one way to thoroughly both impress and amuse pretty much every ghost. No one else has probably ever or even would display their own corpse”. Tucker claps Danny on the shoulder, “talk about a power move! You freaking well better make one hell of an extravagant and unnecessarily over the top unveiling ceremony or something”. “Already got cheesy “I’m really freaking dead this time” ghost paper cut outs in mind. And at least one person will fake die. Plasmius piñata is definitely happening”, Danny is chuckling into his hand while his mom eyes him worryingly. Sam waves her off, “Danny’s sense of humour is out to lunch. If he’s joking about his death than that means he’s in a good mood and perfectly happy. We’d be worried if he wasn’t making a joke of this”. Danny nods at his mom, “joking about my half death and, I guess, full death, is practically one of my things. A trope I guess, all us superhero types have em”. Maddie’s still a bit weirded out but thinking back to all his strange jokes, it’s pretty obvious that Danny’s being honest. Danny smirks devilishly, “and I mean you are talking about someone who’s superpower was literally dying on command”. Earning him a few groans.
Danny is trying to figure out the whole human transformation thing when his mom knocks, “yeah?”. Danny looks to the door as Maddie pokes her head in, “not that I’m complaining but how are you not getting weak or dissolving? It’s been a full day, I figured that your human half was what made you able to stay here before, but now?”. Danny blinks at her a bit, knowing full well that he is a bit weaker nothing drastic though, he hadn’t really been thinking about having to go to the zone, “yeah my human half was doing that. And the reason I’m fine right now, is both because this is Amity and because I’m strong. Amity has tons of latent ectoplasm in the atmosphere because of all the ghosts. Our house and my room have by far the most, because of the portal and me. So ghosts can sustain themselves way longer in Amity than other places on earth”. Danny proves his point by manipulating some of the rather thick ectoplasm in his rooms air into a ball, tossing it in the air a bit, “the ectoplasm that’s latent in my room is more specifically mine so I can manipulate it and it supports me or whatever”. Chuckling and tossing the ball to his mom, who inspects it while Danny talks, “that’s why my room’s always so cold. I have an ice core so my everything is cold. But this is not the zone. I can’t just stay here. So yeah, I’ll have to go to the zone eventually but I’d like to try and sort all this out first”. Noticing her frown and sad glance at him, “obviously I’m not going to just stay away. I’ll be around, just a bit less. Can’t say I know how long I need to be in the zone at a time though. Like I said, not quite sure yet how being full ghost is going to effect my existence yet”. Rubbing his neck and glancing out the window, “probably have to deal with the whole ghost king thing as soon as I make a zone trip too”. Maddie chuckles a bit weakly, “kind of forgot about that. It’s pretty crazy to think my son is the king of the things I hunt”. Looking at Danny as he meets her eyes, “you sure you’re okay with us being hunters? I mean, you’re a ghost and aren’t we basically attacking your subjects?”. Danny smiles softly at her, “it’s fine. Any ghost who comes to the human world expects to get hunted, we pretty much agreed to it. Plus, most who come are looking to start problems. Amity is probably one of the few places that actually gets friendlies, like me or ClockWork. So I guess just don’t hunt the ones that aren’t causing issues”. Chuckling with a smirk, “and obviously don’t hunt ClockWork, that will end embarrassingly for you guys. And absolutely do hunt Plasmius and feel free to annoy any floating eyeballs wearing a cloak. Unless I’m talking to them anyway”. Maddie shakes her head, “if you’re sure. But consider all that talkabout experiments and destroying, off the table. Okay, sweetie?”. Danny smiles warmly at her, “of course, I don’t want you guys to stop being who you are and doing what you love, just because I’m different or because some of your theories were wrong. Being hunters is part of who you are as people, be like telling me to not be overprotective or not make jokes”. Danny chuckles a bit and waves his mom over to the bed, “now feel like being a scientist and shooting out wild theories on how a ghost would go about transforming to make their human form? Cause I’m gettin nowhere other here”. Maddie eyes him for a bit before sitting down, tapping her chin, “well, we both saw how that thing changed, so how similar looking was you transforming before to that? And I’m guessing you’ve already try replicating how your transformation felt?”. That was the first thing Danny had did pretty much, so he nods, “yeah, tried that, multiple times actually. I could transform in more than one specific way, so I just tried every one. And it looks and sounds the same, which isn’t exactly helpful”. Danny knows it’s entirely possible that he simply can’t, how Dan became a full ghost and how he did were not the same. Well, actually, the only real difference was the lack of consuming Plasmius. But Danny wasn’t about to go and do that, for so many reasons. Maddie pokes at him, “why not try the reverse?”. “Um, what?”, Danny’s not following his mom’s train of thought at all. “Why don’t you try the reverse of the transforming feeling or feelings?”. Danny blinks, “so try to transform ghost? Eh, maybe. Seems kinda backwards but”. Danny doesn’t really move or anything, as he tries, having done it so much over the years, made it so simple to do. Not exactly surprised when it doesn’t work, shaking his at her, “nothing”, Danny tilts his head as an idea hits him. He could just try this like using it the way he’d use a normal power. Instead of focusing on the cold light energy and little sparks of electricity inside his veins, that doesn't seem to be there anymore. His rings normally would form like a ball in his chest, where his core was, before shooting out into the rings; and they were cold... Maddie’s opting to stay silent as it’s obvious to her he’s got some kind of idea, both them jumping a bit as a bright ball of light forms only seconds before expanding outwards. Danny smirks at the floating, but not separating ring. It felt way colder and had a slight blue tint but otherwise not that different. Though it’s clear he’s going to have to work on this since the rings don’t just do their thing naturally anymore. His mom mouthing, “wow”, is enough to make him lose his grip on this. She cringes apologetically a bit as the light just snaps back into him. Waving her off as he brings it out again, this time cooking energy around the top half and the lower half, adding a down pull to the bottom and up pull to the top. Smirking as they do indeed shoot over him, and the change does feel different as it goes. Kind of like being compacted into the thermos but with more room. Looking at his glove free hands over before smiling at his mom, “nice”. Maddie shakes her head affectionately, “I would tell you to get some sleep but”. Patting him on the back but jumping as he just snaps back to his new normal look. Danny doesn’t blame her for glaring, rubbing his neck, “sorry bout the light show. This works like a new power, not like the transforming I’m used to. Always takes a bit to get good at new powers”. Especially when he hasn’t gotten a new one in quite a while, so he’s not quite as used to adjusting to new as he was in the first year. “Well, the weekend coming up will give you lots of time”, Maddie nods at him before kissing him on the head good night. “Oh gross! My head is literal ghost fire you know!”, Danny pats at his hair some while Maddie walks to bed with a soft smile.
Danny spends most of the night practicing with transforming but also watching to see if it can get exhausted, trying to figure out just how much of his ectoenergy it uses up. None to pleased when it’s clear it uses up a decent amount, nowhere near his wail but a bit more than a strong ectobeam. Eventually opting to see how long he can just lay and maintain the human appearance, preferably while focusing on it as little as possible. Not too surprised that he does have to actively maintain it now, but it was hardly different than forcing himself not to float; which he was very used to.
Stretching in the morning, before hopping down the steps. Aiming to be as human as possible for as long as possible, he needed to know the limits of this. “Wow son, either you’re concerningly fast at this or you solved a problem”, Danny sticks his head in the kitchen just before the doorbell rings. Talking as he walks to the door, “option two, testing out how long I can keep it up though”. Tucker only looks confused for a few seconds when Danny opens the door, “dude! Nice, you just saved your own ass!”. Danny tilts his head back and laughs, “we all have to do that way too much!”. Tilting his head back down and smiling as they walk in, “it’s not the same though. I have to intentionally maintain it, so no startling me when others are around”. Both them give him a thumbs up but he knows Tucker is going to intentionally startle him at some point, just not in school. All of them have breakfast around the table, before the trio wave as they head off to school. While his parents shake their heads, affectionately, at their overpowered ghost of a son; in the trappings of a human. End.

Tiffany Blue
Heeey it’s Trashboi’s birthday! (Fun fact, also my little brother’s birthday). I’m still working on my otpnsfwchallenge fic, but here's some birthday fluff! T for language!
He wasn't upset. Because, yeah, it was his 37th birthday, and it wasn't like he'd done anything about it for the past few years other than getting coffee and letting Tina pay for it as a gift. Not to mention, he and Hank did have plans to go out later that night. So he just…stewed. Picked through paperwork and watched the clock until it was finally time to leave. When six finally rolled around he hauled himself out of his chair almost before the digits on the clock turned.
We getting dinner? He reached out to Hank, who'd left work an hour before, as he headed out of the building. It was raining, and he pulled up his hood as he headed to the bus stop. He tucked himself under the awning and dropped to the bench as his phone let out the 'meow' text alert he'd downloaded.
Change of plans.
I was gonna take you out but I figured we should stay in instead, just us. Gavin sighed in the damp loneliness of the bus station, the sound of traffic making a dreary kind of white noise.
And Connor. And Rafe. He wasn't trying to come across as petulant, but he was disappointed. He thought they were going to go to the bar and drink Hank's bank account dry and eat too-greasy pizza. He'd fantasized about giggling on the Uber home and sloppily having his way with Hank in the privacy of his apartment. Instead, he got beers on the couch and had to spend his time in Hank's bed feeling self-conscious because of the two androids that now lived there too. And Sumo.
Didn't I say just us?
Sumo will be there, tho. Droids going out. The bus's tires washed a puddle over the curb that soaked into Gavin's shoes. He boarded the bus, hunching against the rain briefly and flashing his city bus card as he passed the driver. He collapsed into a seat near the center of the bus, as not to let the air conditioner make him feel worse. He pulled his phone back out and stared at the unanswered text. Part of him wanted to pout and get Hank to do what he wanted, but the intelligent part of him knew that Hank probably had a reason for the change. As he mused, another text arrived. Gonna order chinese from that place you like.
Alright Gavin answered plainly, When do you want me there?
1.5hrs. 730?
K
Once home, Gavin dropped his wet shoes into the bathroom to dry out on the tile and shucked his clothes. He mused on a shower, but the rain traffic made the bus take long enough that he doubted he'd have time. If he was going to be sitting at Hank's all night, he was at least going to take advantage of the lack of intruding androids. He dug in the drawer for a pair of his tighter jeans and then another drawer for a tee that proudly barked "Gay AF" in rainbow letters. He stuffed his backpack with his toothbrush and a change of clothes for work the next day and grimaced as he put his dry socks into his squishy shoes; he needed them for work tomorrow, so he'd have to let them dry at Hank's.
Thankfully, the rain faded as he rode the bus to Hank's street. The station was about three blocks away from Hank's place. He hopped over puddles, letting his irritation evaporate as he ambled down the sidewalk. He took a final deep breath and didn't bother to knock before letting himself in, "Hey sorry I took so long, the--"
"Happy Birthday!" Connor and Hank were yelling, Rafe sounded like he was being forced into the festivity. The three stood in the kitchen with Sumo laying in the corner. Connor sat at the kitchen table, seemingly waiting; Hank was holding a chocolate-iced cake with lit candles on top; Rafe stood by the sink with an apron on, looking annoyed at the pile of dishes. Sumo's tail thumped against the linoleum at the sudden excitement. The room was bathed in warm light, the smell of the cake surrounding the five of them. Gavin approached and received a warm kiss on the cheek as Hank held the fire hazard away from him; the cake had a full 37 candles on it and many of the flames had merged together into larger flames. Gavin thought it may be a possibility that the fire alarm was going to go off. Even so, he was pretty sure he was blushing at the attention.
"Cancelled our date to set your house on fire instead? I mean, arson isn't exactly my kink, but if--"
"Just blow out the damn candles, Gav." Hank cut him off. The smaller man did as told, blowing hard. Most of them went out, some did not, and they re-ignited the others. Gavin couldn't help but laugh as Hank leaned in to help. With several breaths they were all extinguished and released small streams of smoke into the air.
"Did you make a wish, Detective Reed?" Connor spoke up as Hank slid the cake back onto the counter. Rafe turned back to the dishes, all of which were seemingly covered in chocolate cake batter.
"Wishing is for kids." He rolled his eyes at the android without looking at him, He leaned close to Hank and swiped some icing from the cake, stuffing his pointer finger in his mouth before the older man could protest. "Sides, I have cake and shoes with puddles in them, what more could a guy need?" He hefted himself up to sit on the counter, feet dangling. The chatted like that in the kitchen until Connor and Rafe said their goodbyes and left the dishwasher running in their absence.
"Sorry I changed stuff around." Hank offered, standing close to the younger man, "It was actually a lie." he admitted carefully. Gavin shook his head,
"Which was the lie? Going out or staying in?" He smiled nonetheless.
"I mean with you in that shirt, I should take you out and show you off, but staying home was always the plan." His hands slid to Gavin's waist as he appraised the younger man approvingly.
"It's fine." Gavin shrugged, "Who am I to complain, anyway?" He hopped off the counter to take his shoes off by the door, "Chinese, Cake, hanging out with you." He smiled genuinely.
"Don't forget gifts." Hank picked up a small blue box from the table and tossed it over; Gavin caught it easily.
"It's Tiffany Blue." He joked, feigning a swoon. He rattled the box slightly and heard nothing inside. For a brief moment, the thought passed that it could be a ring, and he flushed as he untitled the black ribbon and popped the lid off; only one way to find out.
Inside there was a ring, but not the kind that put his heart in his throat. It was a key ring with a  single gold key on it. He looped a finger through it and held it up, padding back to the kitchen and looking at Hank challengingly, "A key."
"Yeah." Hank breathed. He rubbed the back of his neck slowly, procrastinating the explanation. "It's a key to the house." He dropped his hand with finality and caught Gavin's in it, "I talked about it with Connor and Rafe. We, uh… I want you to move in." He explained, looking apologetic. Gavin opened his mouth to speak but scrunched his face into one of concern before he formulated a thought.
"I have a cat." He explained, as if it truly posed as an answer. Hank smiled slowly,
"Tesla can come too." He looked amused. "I don't want you taking the bus just to see me. I don’t want to have to think about if you have clothes or a toothbrush or any of that bullshit anymore. I don't want to have to worry about if you're sleeping properly or having nightmares." He offered, his voice quiet as if the sappiness was embarrassing. "I love you, and for you I will tolerate that bitch of a cat." He laughed, kissing Gavin's forehead. The smaller man leaned against Hank, nodding against his chest,
"I guess that sounds nice."
(((SO I also had a deleted half-written scene of Connor and Rafe giving Gavin gifts, so here’s that!)))
"From what I understand, birthdays are not for fulfilling needs." Connor offered, picking up a purple gift bag with red tissue in it and passing it to the brunette.
"You got me a gift?" Gavin looked confused, but pleased as he pulled out the tissue.  He peered into the bag and grinned, fishing out the black box with foreign writing on it. "This was on my amazon wish list. It's been sold out for weeks." He said in awe, prying the cardboard box open and pulling out the hand-sized neon colored cube.
"I simply found it from another source. I'm glad you enjoy it though." The android offered as Gavin ditched the box and giftwrap to scramble the cube without looking at it.
"Thank you." He flashed a small smile as Connor's LED flickered yellow at his sudden amity.
"Don't you already have one on your desk… and your coffee table?" Hank offered, gabbing at another gift on the table and passing it over.
"I do, but this one is new and top of the line and awesome. " Gavin offered as he traded the cube for the next gift. Rafe put the remaining bowls into the dishwasher and started it before turning to watch,
"That one's from me." he admitted. it was a larger box, wrapped in green striped paper. Inside was a tee from Gavin's favorite band. He held it up to his chest and smiled, 'Not Famous' proclaimed across the black fabric in white scrawl.
"I wouldn't have thought androids would be so good at this." He mused,

“If I ever got possessed or acted weird, would you notice?”
{Mari’s self indugent Puyo shipping II: Electric Kluguro}
“Oh, isn’t that just beautiful? The smell of chaos in the morning, it’s so good..”
Strange Klug stood in a large hill, where he could see the entire burning Primp Town. The flames made it hard to see any people around, but the screams, gosh, he could hear the screams. The inhabitants lucky enough to have wings or the ability to float were already making their way out, the best they could. The ones trapped in the town were doing their best to survive, or to help people in need of assistance. Or at least, that’s what it seemed, from how some voices yelled and talked loudly.
Near the possessed being’s feet, a book, Klug’s soul trapped on it. He was horrified. People he knew and cared about were in the fire. Amitie, Sig, Lemres, Ms Accord, Maguro… they were here. He could hear them. And it hurt so much. Because it’s also his fault. He should have fought for his body, he should have done something with that book, he should have asked Lemres for help… but he didn’t.
Strange Klug chuckled, seeming to take joy in Klug’s silent suffering. He turned to the book, his arms between his back and his cape, as he eyed the tiny helpless soul. “Now, don’t be sad. I wouldn’t let you suffer like this alone. You will join your friends soon.”
Klug visibly flinched and his eyes widened more. He couldn’t even speak in this state, and if he could, he would just sob. Casting magic is out of question too, as the magic is in his body. He knew he was in deep trouble, as the fact he is around and alive means the risk of the demon losing his new body.
A foot stepped on the book, also hitting Klug’s soul in the process. Strange Klug just stared as the small soul tried to pull himself free from his foot, but it was pointless. And to him, hilarious.
“Oh, don’t worry. This will only hurt a lot~!” He lifted up a hand, a yellow and red magic glow coming from it. The demony figure behind him approached, raising up two large hands. Both of them laughed evilly as they prepared the magic.
“HYDRANGEA!”
---
Klug quickly sat up, gasping but managing to hold a scream of horror. A hand rested on his chest as he breathed heavily. His eyes took a few minutes to get used to the darkness of the room, Maguro’s room.
He had come over the other boy’s house to hang out with him, which resulted in a sleepover, as they both got carried away with playing board games together and Maguro refused to let Klug try to teleport back to Primp Town this late. Truth be told, maybe Maguro just used this as an excuse to make Klug stay more, not that he minded.
He slept over a mattress on the floor, covered by a blanket and a few pillows that Maguro borrowed for him. Luckily, Klug had brought over one of his pyjamas in his backpack, in case this happened. He placed his elbows on his legs, holding his head with his hands. Klug had nightmares with Strange Klug ever since the first possession incident. At first they were harmless, usually only happened once in a few nights; and silly, usually involving the demon possessing a random object, or Strange Klug dressing up like Lemres, for some reason.
But from silly, they started to get disturbing. Going from the demon possessing other people and going after Klug, or nightmares like this one, with Strange Klug managing to win. And in most of those dreams, Klug was here to suffer the wrath of the faker. And he hated it. He was weak and powerless against the being in his body.
With a headshake, Klug gently got up to his feet. He took a look at Maguro’s bed, the tuna boy sleeping peacefully. From all this time they both have been together, he had learnt that Maguro was a bit of a heavy sleeper. Which was good, he didn’t wanted to accidentally wake him up.
After checking this, Klug grabbed his glasses and made his way to carefully open the door and step outside. In the hallway, two doors leading to the bedrooms belonging to Maguro’s siblings and another door to the bathroom. He was aiming for the latter. Shakely but slowly, Klug opened the bathroom’s door and walked in, locking himself inside.
Now he was completely alone.
Sighing as he realized this, Klug walked to stand in front of the sink. He placed his glasses on the side of the sink and turned on the faucet, picking some of the water to wash his face. A hand rubbed on his eyes, another hand turned the faucet off. He felt a little sleepy but he knew he wouldn’t sleep anytime soon, thanks to the nightmare.
“Gosh… come on, Klug.” He started to chide himself out loud, removing the hand off his face and facing his blurry reflection in the mirror. “It’s just a dumb dream. You got control of your body. Ms Accord and Lemres used a spell on the book. You won’t became Strange Klug again. At least, not here, not now. Don’t be a wimp!”
Yes, it was easy to say that, in a rational standpoint. But emotionally, it hurt. Fear and anxiety sometimes just ignore the rational thinking.
Shaking his head lightly, Klug pulled out the towel from the holder and dried his face. Now that he was up and with no plans to sleep anytime soon, he had to think what he would do now. Perhaps he could tiptoe to the kitchen and get a cup of water. If Maguro’s parents stopped him, he could just make up an excuse. Heard a cat outside that woke him up, something like that.
“....I just don’t know if I want to tell Maguro.” Klug concluded his train of thought, putting the towel back in its spot. He then looked back to the sink and picked his glasses up, ready to leave when…
“Klug? Are you there? ✮” A familiar voice called out from the bathroom, making Klug freeze. It was Maguro!
A million possibilities went through Klug’s head. He thought of staying quiet until Maguro left, or make his voice high pitched and try to pretend he’s Maguro’s sister. However, all evidence pointed that he is in the bathroom. It’s possible to see the lights on from under the door, and Maguro could easily have seen that Klug had left the mattress. He knew.
“Y-Yeah. Sorry, I had to use the toilet, I’m coming out.” Klug spoke up. Lying, but he couldn’t bring himself to tell the truth.
“You sure?” Maguro questioned, as if he had a feeling Klug was hiding something. “I think I heard you saying you don’t want to tell me something? Are you doing okay? ✮”
A blink and a frustrated sigh. How long could he keep hiding this? Klug just opened the door, his heart racing when he saw Maguro staying outside. His hair was slightly messy from being in bed before. But even without seeing his eyes, hidden under the bangs and with a tiny smile upon his face, it was a little possible to tell he was worried.
“...I.. I think I’m fine now. I got to see y… you.” Klug managed to mutter out, his cheeks blushing a little.
Maguro’s head tilted a bit, then he started to chuckle. “Aw man, you’re adorable~ ✮” He stretched out an arm to gently pull Klug into a hug.
Klug was too surprised and blushed too hard to have a proper reaction. “I-I-I… Please. Can we go back to your room? I guess I could use some sleep now..”
A nod from the other boy as he let go of the hug. “You can go ahead. I need to do a thing real quick. ✮“ Maguro explained as he walked inside the bathroom. Seems like he had woken up because he had to use the bathroom.
Now he was hopeful that he could run to Maguro’s room, fall asleep and avoid the need of explaining the real reason he had woken up. Klug quickly went back to the bedroom and sat down in the mattress, putting his glasses away before laying down and covering his body with the blanket. All ready to sleep.
Except sleep just didn’t came. Klug laid down, turned around, tried to focus on happy thoughts to fall asleep… nothing worked. He was upset over the nightmare and a bit afraid to sleep again. He hated this. Such a dumb nightmare still had an impact on him.
His hand reached for his eyes, rubbing some sneaky tears out. Mentally, he scolded himself for feeling this bad over something he knew wouldn’t happen. Or at least, he hoped wouldn’t happen. However, the self scolding only made him feel worse and more tears to fall.
“Hey, I’m back.✮” A familiar voice broke the silence. Klug had his back turned to the door, but he didn’t needed to look to know it was Maguro. He just very slowly moved his hand to clean some final tears and tried to not move anymore, hoping that Maguro would think he’s asleep and go back to bed.
“Klug?” Maguro called, noises of steps approaching. He was near the mattress now, looking down to Klug. The nerdy boy didn’t respond and the dark made it very hard to see his face. Klug was counting on the dark, plus Maguro not seeing too well thanks to his bangs, to his advantage. “I know you’re not asleep. You snore when you sleep. Loudly. ✮”
Klug just huffed and quickly got up to his feet to face Maguro, very annoyed. “I do NOT snore! Sometimes I talk in my sleep yeah, but I don’t snore!”
Maguro smiled. “Yes, I know. ✮ I was just checking if you were awake.”
Silence. Klug didn’t had any words to counter, so he just sighed and sat down on Maguro’s bed as Maguro made his way to turn on the lights. Klug needed a little while to get his eyes used to the lights, also secretly hoping that by now, his eyes wouldn’t be so red anymore.
“Don’t get me wrong, I actually woke up needing to pee. ✮” Maguro began to explain, his back turned on Klug as he ran a hand over his hair. “But then I saw that you weren’t sleeping and I got a bit worried. All times we hang out, you rarely wake up in middle of the night. ✮” With that last sentence, he finally looked back to Klug, his hair looked a bit tidier now.
Klug nodded and removed his hands from his face. “You’re very nice, but I swear, I’m fine.” He lied again, a small sniffle escaping from him by accident. He flinched a bit from that, but he tried to hide it so Maguro wouldn’t notice.
For once, Maguro wasn’t smiling anymore. He sighed and placed a hand on his chin, seeming to be thinking of something. Klug was a bit afraid, for lack of a better term. He didn’t wanted to worry the other boy like that, especially when they had so much fun hanging out before. He and his dumb dreams had ruined the n-
Klug was snapped out of his self hating thoughts when Maguro sat on his bed too, without saying anything. One of his hands grabbed Klug’s and held it very gently. The other hand, he used to move his bangs out of his eyes. After he adjusted the bangs behind his ears and making sure they wouldn’t fall back in their usual spot, he moved the hand so he could hold Klug’s hand with both of his. And look Klug in the face.
“Sweetie… ✮ I know something is wrong. I promise I won’t judge you, I just want to help. Tell me what’s wrong so I can help. ✮” Maguro spoke as a dramatically and romantically as possible, as well keeping eye contact with Klug with every word and star he said.
Klug’s mouth opened in surprise and his cheeks began to blush again. He tried to not look into Maguro’s eyes, but it was impossible. The eyes were just as beautiful as he remembered, it was almost hypnotizing. “T-That’s a low blow!” He mumbled out in a bit of frustration. Maguro knew that Klug loved his eyes. He had also learnt how to use his eyes to either get romantic or to get secrets out of Klug.
In some point, Klug just pulled out his hand free and began to whimper softly. His body trembled as he leaned closer to Maguro, his face falling into his chest. Maguro, in response, was surprised, but gently wrapped his arms around Klug and protected him in an embrace.
“I… I didn’t wanted…. to a.. admit… nightmare… it’s so dumb…” Klug attempted to speak between sobs and sniffles as he clung on Maguro’s chest. He felt everything dump down into him at once. The nightmare, him often forcing himself to ignore it, Strange Klug, everything hurt. He just couldn’t hide it anymore.
“Shhh, it’s okay. It’s not dumb, it’s okay.” Maguro whispered soothingly, a hand reaching to rub Klug’s back. In the hugging process, his hair had messily fallen back into his face. Not that he cared, his eyes had already completed their mission, so it was good to hide them again.
For a few minutes, they just stayed hugging. Klug tried to speak more, wanting to either explain himself or apologize, but Maguro insisted that things were fine. He didn’t knew anything about  the nightmare yet, he just wanted Klug to feel safe and better.
A silence filled the room. Klug’s crying was just some soft sobs now, but he still rested against Maguro’s chest, finding the warmth and the cuddle comforting. After everything harsh from this night, he really needed it. The only downside was his head hurting a bit from all the crying now.
Maguro seemed to take notice on the sobs, as well in a quiet groan that Klug let out. He looked down to his chest, a hand caressing Klug’s hair. “How are you feeling? ✮”
“Like a mess.” Klug stammered, his voice a bit scratchy. Slowly, he pushed himself away from Maguro to sit down on the bed again. After running a quick hand over his face he looked to Maguro, his face red from all the crying.
“I could get you a cup of water.” Maguro got up to his feet. He didn’t leave yet, as if he waited for Klug to say something. He was so used to cocky and chatty Klug, it was weird for him to see the other quiet like that. “Or you rather I get you juice or something else? ✮”
Klug shook his head and eyed down the messy blanket on Maguro’s bed. “Water is fine.”
With a quick nod, Maguro opened the door and left, leaving the door a little open in case he had to rush back to the room. And once again, Klug felt his thoughts slowly lurk to him as he was alone. He hated that he had to confess he had a nightmare, it was embarrassing that a dream made him feel this bad.
But at the same time it was shameful, he felt like a heavy weight was lifted from his shoulders, even if the fears and worries related to Strange Klug still had some impact on him. It could also be tiredness starting to catch up with him, Klug noticed, as a yawn escaped while he rubbed his eyes.
Suddenly, the door opened. Maguro closed the door, the other hand carrying a glass filled with water. Smiling a little, he approached and handled the cup for Klug. “There we go. ✮”
“Thanks.” Klug muttered as he picked the cup. He held the cup close, but didn’t drink right away, still slightly stuck in his thoughts. “Say, do you know what time is it?”
“Almost 3AM. I checked on the kitchen.✮” Came the calm reply, which was interrupted in the end by a yawn. Seems like Maguro is getting tired too. “Don’t worry your cute head, though. Neither of us have classes tomorrow and you can stay as long as you want. I got you, babe~ ✮”
Klug was about to drink the water when Maguro started being so smooth, causing his cheeks to blush and his jaw to drop. He tried to hide the blushing with his other hand, while Maguro chuckled at how cute that was. “S-Stop that. I’m perfectly fine now, you don’t have to spoil me.”
Another chuckle and a shrug from Maguro. “I can’t help it. I really like to see you happy. And I love you a whole lot! ✮”
In the end, Klug just sighed, a small smile appearing with his blushing pink cheeks. He finally managed to drink the water, but he was still thinking about the nightmare and what would happen if Strange Klug happened again. He suddenly lowered the cup, looking serious and oddly somber. “.....Maguro… If I ever got possessed or acted weird, would you notice?”
Now that was an out of nowhere and strange question, even for Maguro, who usually doesn’t minds weird stuff. He seemed to think about it, but couldn’t connect the dots. Klug recalled, he had told about the possession incident, but never went for too many details about it, so it was possible Maguro didn’t knew that this affected Klug this much.
“I mean… ✮” Maguro begun to speak, a hand scratching his hair. “Earlier, I knew you were upset even before you told me. I may miss stuff easily, but I know you. I think if something like that happened, I would know. ✮”
Klug blinked. Maybe he had said this just to cheer him up, but it was working. Maguro was right in one thing: he knows Klug well. With another sip from the cup, he had drank all the water. “....Thanks. That means a lot.” He spoke lowly but a bit happier.
“Aw, you’re welcome. ✮” Maguro gently pulled the cup away from Klug’s hands and placed it on his nightstand. That done, he sat closer to Klug and pulled him for a gentle kiss on the cheek. “You okay to sleep now or you wanna stay up more?”
“I feel...a.. a bit t-tired.” Klug’s hand reached to pull the collar of his pyjama shirt as he started to blush again. He ended just giggling shyly as Maguro laughed at Klug’s cuteness again.
“I got an idea in case you still feel bad, though. ✮” Maguro scooped himself a bit farther from Klug, then patted a free spot on his bed, right by his side. However, Klug was a bit confused by this gesture. “Lay down here. The idea is to hug the sad out. ✮”
“H-Hug?” Klug repeated, feeling the blush once again. The offer was tempting, but he was feeling hesitant for a lot of reasons and he wasn’t gonna hide it now. “But what about you? You just gonna sleep with me stuck in your arms, with the lights on? What if your parents see this and get angry?? I’m not gonna let you get in trouble!”
Maguro shrugged again. “I mean, it’s just a hug. Not like we gonna make out now. Unless you want to~ ✮” He approached Klug to gently elbowed him with a smirk, but Klug slapped the arm away. “Anyway. I’m still worried about you, to be honest. I’ll do whatever I can to make sure you sleep well. ✮”
Klug just silently got up to his feet and made his way to turn off the lights. Maguro was quiet, imagining that Klug had gotten angry or something, but then he felt a hand on his mattress, close to him. Then it was a body lying next to his, and a familiar head on his chest.
“I… I guess I like this idea. But the lights bother my eyes.” Klug explained, his voice feeling a bit timid to come out. It took him a while to be able to see Maguro in the darkness again, but he felt the other boy adjust himself in the bed a little, then start caressing his hair.
Klug felt more and more sleepy with the petting, letting out a yawn, even if wanted to be awake just a little more. “....Hey Mag- Uh, dear?” He whispered sleepily. “Thank you. I love you.”
“You’re very welcome. I love you too. ✮” Maguro whispered back and leaned closer for a kiss. He was aiming to kiss Klug’s forehead, but the other boy actually tilted his head up a bit so their lips could connect. Klug himself pulled away from the kiss after a few seconds, though. Even if he had gotten brave enough to start it, his courage had a limit. That, and he really wanted to sleep now.
In the silence and warmth, Klug slowly fell asleep on Maguro’s chest. Maguro stayed up a little more, making sure that Klug was going to be okay. A few times, the nerdy boy stirred gently in his sleep, but he seemed to be having just a regular dream this time; as he eventually sleep-whispered something involving Amitie and pranking. Even so, Maguro took a little more time to keep an eye on Klug.
When Klug seemed to start to sigh calmly in his sleep, Maguro relaxed. He was confident things would be okay now, and if another nightmare happened, he would be around again to protect Klug. He still made a mental note to ask Klug what the heck he meant with being possessed in that question, though.
With a final, content and calm sigh, Maguro carefully pulled Klug closer to him. He then grabbed his blanket with a foot and moved it so he could pick it with a hand and cover both of them with it. And finally, he allowed himself to close his eyes and sleep.
