One of the most high-profile court cases in sport kicked off earlier this month and the rest of the world has been left baffled by the proceedings.

Max Verstappen, and his team Red Bull Racing, have taken Carlos Sainz, Ferrari driver for the 2024 season, to the Court of Arbitration for Sport following their crash in Azerbaijan.

The final lap at the circuit in Baku saw Sainz storm into the side of Verstappen’s Red Bull, pushing both cars into the concrete barriers at the street circuit. Although neither driver were seriously injured, Verstappen was kept overnight in the hospital for precautions, while Sainz was able to hop straight out of his wrecked car and into his private jet to his picturesque holiday spot.

Verstappen, ever the joker, immediately ran to social media where alongside his gang of other drivers and friend Y/N Sainz poked at the situation. It wasn’t until a couple of days after the incident that Sky Sports reported that Red Bull were enquiring into the possibility that this crash was on purpose, perhaps even with malicious intent.

The much-needed context to this crash doesn’t come from an on-track incident, in fact, it hardly has much to do with the sport at all. Y/N Sainz is an integral figure in this controversy. Earlier this year when it was revealed that her brother, Carlos, wouldn’t be resigning with Ferrari in favour of Lewis Hamilton, Carlos lashed out and revealed his sister’s years-long secret relationship with Sainz’s teammate at the time, Charles Leclerc.

Both Carlos Sainz Jr and Sr immediately threw accusations against their own blood of backstabbing and betrayal, despite it being very clear that Y/N Sainz was none the wiser to Ferrari’s move.

Y/N Sainz is far removed from Formula 1 aside from her relation to Carlos and her relationship with Charles. Y/N Sainz is a successful author who prior to this incident seemed to be in good favour with her family.

Amongst the fallout, further accusations flew from both parties. Y/N accused her father and brother of attempting to sell her off in the paddock for favours from teams while her brother and father regurgitated their points of her supposedly being a ‘gold digger’.

The first round of this controversy also culminated in a courtroom. Sainz Sr took his own daughter to court, claiming that he was entitled to all of her earnings from her book sales. It must also be noted here that those court proceedings exposed that Y/N had never had a bank account of her own, rather that all of her earnings were funnelled to her father to which she was then given a stipend.

Y/N won that court case, as it’ll be likely that her close friend Verstappen will win his. It was ordered that Sainz Sr had to pay back all of her earnings alongside damages. However, it was not the win she had hoped for as Ferrari had a gag order on her boyfriend, meaning she went through the proceedings alone, with distant support from Verstappen and Oscar Piastri.

Following worldwide outrage, this gag order was dropped and the pair were reunited and attended races again as a united front - even picking up a group of rookies that stuck to the side of Y/N.

Leclerc even commented following the crash that he felt it was meant for him, which reinforced the theory that it was premeditated. We’ll keep you updated as the court proceedings continue.

It is to BBC’s understanding that texts between Sainz Jr and Sr have been revealed to the court that imply a plan to cause as much damage before they are ousted at the end of the season. The texts themselves do not state that Verstappen was the intended target, that incident seemed to be a crime of opportunity. Rather, that Ferrari and Leclerc were the targets of their rage but fortunately for Leclerc in Baku, he was simply too fast for Sainz to catch.

Amongst the texts was on damning one, ‘I’ll put that mongasque cunt in the wall as many times as I can to make sure Y/N can only have her happily ever after with a cripple or a headstone’.

It’s shaping up to be a slam dunk against Carlos Sainz as Red Bull prepare to present their telemetry evidence.

Our court side reporter states that Red Bull’s telemetry data was damning. Another ‘betrayal’ for the male Sainz contingent as Ferrari happily complied with Red Bull’s investigation, handing over all of the data which conclusively proved that Sainz purposefully crashed into and endangered Max Verstappen.

We now just wait on the final verdict.

GUILTY!

Carlos Sainz Jr has been given a guilty verdict for endangering a fellow athlete with malicious intent. The Court of Arbitration of Sport has ruled that Sainz is hereby banned from Formula One indefinitely. He will not complete his final season with Ferrari and his entry to the paddock will be monitored on a case-by-case basis.

This is a landmark ruling in the sport but you can’t help but think it was necessary. The sport is dangerous enough, it was simply too dangerous to have a man who admitted in texts to wanting to inflict as much damage as possible on another driver.

Two weeks, two long weeks that dragged on, to her it felt like lightyears in contrast to how quick time had really been zooming by. Funny how life had a way of fucking you over, funny how no matter what you yourself was dealing with or going through the earth just kept spinning as if your life was insignificant to it. Life had a funny way of making even the strongest of people turn into someone less than themselves.

Her mother had just died, the one personn she had left in her life that truly understood her in ways that no one else would, the very last of her heart was now to be buried with her mother.

Sunoo and the others were now forced to witness her condition worsen with every day that passed, each day closer to her mothers funeral pushed her further to the edge. They watched any remnant of the girl they knew slowly slip away as she drowned her sorrows in weed and alcohol but never lifting her fingers to do any hard drugs which they were grateful for but it still hadn’t bettered the situation.

She stopped showing up to classes, stopped writing and she rarely ate unless the effects of the marijuana made her feel like she could eat an entire market — only to throw it back up hours later.

“yn I think you’ve had enough maybe we should get you home.’’ Stara tries her best to convince a half drunk yn that it’s best for them to take her home, worry edged into the tone of her voice.

“Why? There's nooo one to go home to.’’ she slurs, stuffing her mouth full of popcorn before chasing it down with a cup of what she believed to be whiskey, but the alcohol had burned her tongue so raw she couldn’t tell the difference anymore.

The two girls give her an empathetic look before Demetra sends Stara off to search for Sunoo.

“Yn baby give me the cup.’’ Demetra spoke softly, reaching out her hand to take the cup from her friend, letting out a sigh of relief as she removed it successfully.

“I don’t want to go back to that house. What’s the fucking point.’’

“Baby you can’t just drown yourself in all this, I know we said you should get out, stop staying cramped up in your room but this isn’t what we meant babe you still have life to live.’’ she reasures her, gently brushing her mess of hair from her face.

“Bullshit, you know what I have to say? Fuck life before it fucks you.’’ She responds before falling back onto the couch, blowing raspberries with her tongue before the heaviness of her eyes had finally overcome her. A single tear came spilling from her eye as the weight of all the substances in her system had finally caved in on her and she fell asleep right where she lay.

The entire ride back to her place was completely silent, Demetra and Stara sat in the front while Sunoo sat in the back with her head resting in his lap. The three of them had already texted the rest of the group that they were leaving after making the collective decision to take her home. When they finally did arrive at her place they all worked as a collective, Sunoo carrying her up the stairs to her room, Stara getting her cleaned and dressed, and Demetra making sure she was snug in bed. After placing a glass of water and Advil at her bedside each of them made their way downstairs.

“I don’t think we should leave her alone tonight.’’ Stara finally speaks, putting an end to their ongoing silence.

“I don’t think we should leave her alone any night.’’ Sunoo, grabbles.

“Well what do we do we can’t be here with her every day we still have school and work? And Sunoo is still working on his piece for the auction?’’ Demetra sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose to relieve the tension in her head.

“Maybe we could do shifts?’’ Stara suggests making Demetra shake her head in response.

“Yeah but that’ll only work for so long, what happens if something comes up and none of us can look after her. I’m not saying she needs a babysitter or anything but someone has to make sure she doesn’t throw herself over the cliff she’s had herself dangling on the last few days.’’ Demetra looks over to Sunoo who seemed to have been deep in thought.

“I have someone in mind, she could be here by tomorrow morning but I know for a fact yn might absolutely hate it, but she may be our only option right now?’’ Sunoo warns, knowing damn well that if they took the risk of calling this certain someone neither of them would hear the end of it.

“Who?’’ not even taking the moment to discuss or think about it Sunoo pulls his phone from his pocket. His finger hovering over a familiar name that he hadn’t heard yn speak highly of since she was sixteen.

“Her grandma.’’

It wasn’t that yn hated her grandmother or anything; she just hadn’t had the relationship she’d hoped for with her. The only time she ever got to see her in person was birthdays or holidays and on the worst occasions funerals, any time other than that it had been facetime calls or gifts and letters sent from abroad. Then when she had turned sixteen she’d stopped contacting her, it wasn’t that her grandma had done anything she still texted and sent gifts but yn had been at that age by then where she didn’t want to be bothered by anyone.

The next morning the sun was peeking through her curtains, almost mocking her and testing her patience as her eyes cracked open, a splitting headache thumping at her head the moment her eyes peeled open. Her eyes shot to the cup of water at her bedside and she downed it almost immediately along with the pain meds.

Her head thumping with absolutely no recollection of last night, not even the moments leading up to her having been showered, and tucked into bed. Of course she knew that wasn’t a good thing; she had drunk so much to the point of memory loss but who was she to care? It wasn't like there was much worth remembering.

Throwing herself out of bed she doesn’t bother with brushing her teeth or washing her face, knowing she had no other place to be and nothing to do but rot in bed. She dragged her feet down the hallway and into the kitchen, missing the woman that sat at the day table entirely as she made a beeline for the fridge. Cracking it open and drinking lemonade straight from its bottle.

“Not even gonna get a cup?’’

“Jesus fucking christ.’’ The intrusion of another voice in her kitchen startled her, making her leap back from the fridge and drop the bottle.Her hands immediately shoot to her mouth, her heart beating so fast in her chest you’d have sworn she ran a marathon.

“Okay am I still drunk? Am I hallucinating right now..how much weed did i smoke last night” she questions herself, snapping in front of her own eyes to ensure what she was seeing was actually real.

“Not drunk, not high, not dreaming, have a seat.’’ her grandma ushers for her to sit down and her gaze immediately falls to the bottle of lemonade that had spilled all over the floor.

“Worry about it later come sit.’’ dismissing the liquid on the floor she takes a seat across from her grandmother. For a moment her grandma just sits there silently observing her while she sits there awkwardly.

“I should have been here, the moment I received that call I should have been here with you.’’ she immediately stiffens in her seat.

“It must have been hard for you to deal with it alone, if they had called me sooner i’d have been there..in the hospital with you watching her- you wouldn’t have to had.’’ she immediately stops herself upon hearing her granddaughter suck in a breath.

“Whatever you need, I'll be here. The arrangements leave them up to me, the assets, tending to this house, I'll worry about all of it for the next few months. But I need you to pull it together, go to school, and the alcohol needs to go. I know I haven’t been as present as your mother or your father but they have given you everything you needed to make sure you live your life virtuously and comfortably. Can you do that for me buggie?’’ buggie a nickname given to her that used to mean so much to her, now it just placed the weight of a thousand lifetimes on her shoulders.

“I can do it.’’ there were no other words to be exchanged between the two. What was understood didn’t need to be said, and from her grandmother's understanding she really needed someone right now.

For the last two months of yns grandmother staying there she was sure to keep her promise, she handled all of the funeral arrangements, she made sure the house was tended to and that all assets were transferred into yns name. The only differing factor from the promises made being that yn hadn’t kept her own. Yes she had kept clean for a week or two but eventually she had gone back to her own ways, up until the day of the funeral where she was painfully sober the entire day.

The day dragged on and on as she had to listen to endless prayers and sorrows in regards to her and her mother. None of it really mattered to her, it wasn’t like they could bring her mother back. After the service when everyone was gone she’d locked herself in her room, no texting or calling her friends, no thanking them for showing up today but of course they all understood she needed space. Eventually she cried herself to sleep, not waking up until the moon was well lit in the sky and playing peek-a-boo through her curtains. Like any other night for the past few months she dragged her feet down the staircase and this time on her way to the kitchen she found her grandma sat in the study seemingly talking to someone on the phone.

“When is the best time for you to get here? Ah your work shouldn’t be a problem i’ll ensure you and the boys or well set by the time you get here? Of course of course take all the time you need to tie up any loose ends before you get here yes?’’ shrugging it off she continued to shuffle her feet down the hallway until her grandmother's voice faded off with the distance. Downing a cup of water in the kitchen before returning to the sanctuary of her room.

Two days passed by and she had been deep in sleep until the sound of a loud moving truck pulled her out of her slumber.

“What the hell.’’ still half asleep she pulls on her shorts before shuffling down the stairs nearly tripping over her own feet as she makes her way down.

Through blurred vision she could make out her grandma standing in the middle of the foyer with some man she wouldn’t recognize even if the lord came down himself and introduced him.

“Well look who finally decided to wake up, evening dear, about time you decided to join the living again.’’ her grandma spoke, a hint of playfulness in her tone as she walked over to introduce her to the man she had been talking with moments prior.

“This is Mr. Park he’ll be staying in this house from now on.’’ if she hadn’t been awake before , she was absolutely awake now. Those words had drained every ounce of sleep from her body
