This Week In Development
Current Wordcount: 28,859
Writing (May Contain Spoilers)
I worked through a good chunk of the hobbies and am ending the week with only one that has not been worked on at all, and two that are unfinished, but I really needed to take a break from them. There is just so. much. code. Each hobby (aside from one) has about half a dozen scenes depending on the choices and stats of the MC. That is 46 scenes, give or take! I hadn't done the math on that before, and now I think I'm crazy. There are even further small changes within some of those scenes. It's no wonder I needed a change of pace!
I'm currently working on the scene right afterwards, which involves dressing to meet E for the first time. I have the choices for attire, as well as the reasons you might choose them posted on Discord. If you would like access to it, it comes with the preorder!
In conclusion, I think November was a month of making things very hard on myself, but I hope they will have been worth it.

Screenshot Saturday #1!
It's the first Screenshot Saturday for Crashlander!! I've been having a ton of fun working on this game lately :]
This week I worked a lot on graphics, like the main menu I posted earlier, and some new sprites!

First was replacing the old player sprite (left) with a new, slightly larger one (right) - I want to start replacing asset pack resources with things I made and it's always a nice break from coding for a bit.

I also worked on the first iteration of the Phytokin, the plant-like aliens that inhabit the world you crash on! Love the little guys. I think it would be fun to make them different based on the surrounding biome's foliage a little further down the line.

Also, dialogue system! It uses the wonderful Dialogic plugin to do all the heavy lifting, and on the back end I can assign either a full Dialogic timeline or I can just throw some stuff in a string array if I just want something quick for various townies.

Finally, I implemented the beginnings of the attack system as well as status effects, which lets you attack, die...

Overall, lots of progress this week!! Hoping to continue fleshing out inventory and start on the building system this week :]

my son i named terror was born in the grinder due to genetic pups. i have a 5% chance to have a pup set. terrifying to raise him here.

all jokes aside i love the grinder. it makes me have a mini panic attack every few seconds, and is a challenge to make it through. (even worse with a slugpup..)
No fucking way, John "the grinder" terror!!!
I sure hope there isn't a machine I specifically designed to kill slugpups!

Devlog 26
Another week of game development down. I think I'm finally starting to get the hang of this thing.
Does anyone know a word for when you are working on your game and the closer you get to a big checkpoint in development the more stuff you discover you have to do? I can't tell if it's scope creep or just forgetting to write down detailed plans.
Anyways, I've been spending a lot of time this week doing all kinds of research. Researching how to market a game, how to make a game that'll sell, how to make a good platformer, stuff like that. It's very interesting! I would also like to recommend this video I found. I think he makes some really good points, and definitely points that I haven't considered: Marketing is NOT Why Most Indie Games Fail (youtube.com)
Other than research, I've been making new stages for the yokai forest and I think it just might be ready for a showcase next week! Here are a couple screen shots of some finished areas.

One fun thing that I've added is currency! I was on the fence about it for a while, but it makes the 'how' of the player getting certain items a lot simpler. The currency is modeled after old Japanese coins.
Besides, who doesn't like collecting sparkly things?

Haven't posted an update in *checks watch* almost one year cuz I got burnout and really had to pull back the ol online presence. 😓
It was a good rest, though. I'm learning how to take better care of myself so I can continue making magic for a long time to come!
New things in Figmin are:
Animation!!!!!!
Lights casting onto real-world surfaces (even your hands)
Better shadows (you can do hand puppetry)
Search by user function so you can see all of someone's art
A web browser, so you can download stuff directly, listen to Spotify, check Discord, or even just mindlessly scroll Tumblr from within a digital glowing jungle. If you want to.
A whole bunch of UI and performance fixes
A mobile app. You could explore everything in this video, no headset required, by downloading the beta versions: iPhone / Android

but!! while i don't know how to code i do know how to make music- so i'm just going to keep making tracks for certain areas i envision and hope u all can just see it in your brain. but about the game:
in short, it takes place during the first video- it centers around you (playing as arthur) searching the mansion for vivi (and mystery? haven't decided where he'll be yet) after getting separated and slowly finding clues as to who the fuck this Pink Bitch that keeps trying to hunt you down is. this track is for lewis's study area, where arthur is gonna find some Shit
