Reached Locke & Key: Clockworks #4 and I have to say the Riffel Rule is the perfect example of an unnecessary explanation that still is quite cool and well implemented.

Like, the whole "grown ups can't remember magic" is left open in the Netflix Series, we and the characters never learn why it happens and we're cool with that. Why it happens doesn't really matters as we and the characters still understand it happens, when it happens and how it happens, thus they can deal with it.

In the series, that's basically a law that we promptly accept as the whole thing is magic.

Then in the comics, we do have an explanation that's really simple and yet brings a really cool addition to the whole backstory as highlights the point: every Locke who created a key was their own person and had their own goals. Some were selfless, some wanted little and simple, some were cautious about what they wished, some were more petty, some were selfish, but they all had a goal and the keys were created solely to fulfill said goal, just like that...

The series proves we didn't need an explanation to this, but the comics used it to create an interesting plot point about the history of the Key House, the Locke lineage and the magic keys...

Idk... I just couldn't stop thinking about it...

#meanwhile... it really makes idiot the one idea Rendell had for a key was 'a glamour key'#it sounds jerkish and selfish in every way no matter what Bullshit he tries to make up #unlike the memory key that in the context of the series acts more as an defensive mechanism #meanwhile the Riffel Rule only applies to the ones who passed the front door... so a robber who invaded by the window would be unaffected #what is hilariously stupid #meanwhile I wonder why no Locke had the idea for a memory key before... does the Riffel Rule acts in the same way even if we weren't told-#or does no Locke ever cared to remember the magic before?#points to reflect #locke and key #hans riffel #riffel rule #locke & key

i would genuinely love a red hood show like the harley quinn show. a feel-good, comedy series that follows jason coming back from the dead and becoming red hood, getting his crew, becoming a crime lord, interacting with the bats and the rogues- it would be so fun, i'm convinced

jason's dark humour, stupid moments between him and bruce (less angsty and more bruce being an awkward dad), cute dad-son moments between him and harvey where harvey brags about jason and jason being so over it, the other rogues being so irritated by jason because he keeps foiling their plans, harley and him bonding over how shitty joker was (he's dead), and overall jason just being super fun to watch.

because let's be honest, jason is literally the kind of anti-hero character who would be so engaging to watch as a main character in a dark comedy.
