What is SEO? | Explain the type of SEO
What is SEO? SEO stands for “Search Engine Optimization.” It is the practice of improving the quality and quantity of website traffic by increasing the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine’s unpaid results. This is typically done by improving the website’s relevance and authority, and by making sure it’s easily crawlable by search engine bots. SEO can also involve the use of…

The Art of Pinterest Marketing: Boosting Your Brand's Visibility
Pinterest, often overshadowed by larger social media giants, offers a unique and potent platform for brands seeking to amplify their visibility. Unlike the ephemeral nature of many social networks, Pinterest acts as a visual search engine, where content longevity and discovery potential reign supreme. Mastering Pinterest marketing involves more than just pinning pretty pictures; it’s about understanding the platform's ecosystem, leveraging its features, and crafting strategies that resonate with your target audience.
Understanding Pinterest’s Distinct Ecosystem Pinterest operates fundamentally differently from other social media platforms. It is a discovery engine that focuses on visual inspiration, where users actively seek ideas for future projects, purchases, or lifestyles. This intent-driven behavior makes Pinterest an invaluable tool for brands looking to capture interest at the beginning of the customer journey.
Visual Search Engine: Pinterest’s advanced visual search capabilities allow users to find similar items and ideas through images, not just keywords. Brands must ensure their pins are visually appealing and searchable to capitalize on this feature. Evergreen Content: Unlike the rapid feed churn of other platforms, Pinterest pins have a longer lifespan, continuing to drive traffic months or even years after they are first pinned. Crafting High-Impact Pins To harness Pinterest’s potential, creating high-impact pins is essential. Pins should be visually captivating, informative, and aligned with your brand's aesthetic.
Vertical Orientation: Pinterest favors vertically oriented images (2:3 ratio), which stand out more in users’ feeds. Rich Pins: Utilize Rich Pins to provide extra details right on the pin itself. These include Product Pins, Recipe Pins, Article Pins, and App Pins, each offering additional functionality and information that can entice users to click through. Eye-Catching Design: Use high-quality images with clear, compelling text overlays. Make sure your design elements are consistent with your brand identity to create a cohesive presence. Optimizing for Search and Discovery Pinterest’s search functionality makes it critical to optimize your pins for discovery.
Keywords: Incorporate relevant keywords in your pin descriptions, titles, and boards. Think about what your audience might search for and use those terms strategically. Hashtags: While not as prominent as on other platforms, relevant hashtags can enhance the discoverability of your pins. Board Organization: Create well-organized boards that reflect different aspects of your brand or product lines. Use descriptive board names and include keywords to make them easily searchable. Engaging with the Pinterest Community Interaction and engagement play a crucial role in amplifying your brand’s visibility on Pinterest.
Pinning Strategy: Consistency is key. Aim to pin regularly, mixing your own content with curated pins from other sources to keep your boards fresh and engaging. Collaborative Boards: Join or create collaborative boards where multiple users can contribute. This can expand your reach by tapping into other users’ audiences. Engage with Followers: Respond to comments on your pins, follow other users, and engage with their content. This not only builds a community around your brand but also boosts your visibility through increased interaction. Utilizing Pinterest Analytics Pinterest Analytics offers insights into how your pins are performing and how users are interacting with your content.
Performance Metrics: Monitor metrics such as impressions, saves, clicks, and engagement rates. These indicators can help you understand which types of pins resonate most with your audience. Audience Insights: Use analytics to learn more about your audience’s demographics and interests. Tailor your content strategy to align with these insights, ensuring your pins are relevant and engaging. Leveraging Pinterest Ads Pinterest Ads can significantly boost your brand's visibility by promoting your pins to a larger audience.
Promoted Pins: These are regular pins that you pay to appear in more prominent positions. Promoted pins blend seamlessly with organic content, making them a subtle yet effective advertising tool. Targeting Options: Pinterest offers various targeting options, including interest targeting, keyword targeting, and audience targeting, which allow you to reach users based on their behaviors and preferences. Integrating Pinterest with Overall Marketing Strategy To maximize the benefits of Pinterest, integrate it into your broader marketing strategy.
Cross-Promote: Promote your Pinterest content across other platforms. For example, share your pins on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram to drive traffic back to your Pinterest boards. Website Integration: Use Pinterest's Save button on your website to make it easy for visitors to pin your content. Rich Pins can also enhance the user experience by providing additional context. Content Synergy: Align your Pinterest content with other marketing efforts such as blog posts, product launches, or seasonal promotions to create a cohesive marketing approach. Conclusion Mastering Pinterest marketing requires a blend of creativity, strategic planning, and engagement. By understanding Pinterest’s unique ecosystem and leveraging its features effectively, brands can significantly boost their visibility and drive meaningful engagement. In the realm of visual discovery and inspiration, Pinterest stands as a powerful tool for brands to connect with their audience, foster lasting relationships, and ultimately, drive growth.

Man, I've stumbled across more reasons to hate etsy.
Found a seller with a digital download of a book they defiantly do not own. Yeah, it's an out of print book but it's not an OLD one, pretty sure the authors are still alive and all that, it's definitely still under copyright etc. And y'know I'm a wee pirate at heart, so ripping off a copyright book to distribute, whatever, but charging $10+ for digital copies of a book you stole...? Fuck you dude.
Go to report the listing. There's no option to report IP theft unless it's your own specifically. Selected the categories that sorta? Fit best? But really didn't.
I mean, we all already knew Etsy doesn't give a shit about theft and just wants their cut, but come on...

What objections would you actually accept to AI?
Roughly in order of urgency, at least in my opinion:
Problem 1: Curation
The large tech monopolies have essentially abandoned curation and are raking in the dough by monetizing the process of showing you crap you don't want.
The YouTube content farm; the Steam asset flip; SEO spam; drop-shipped crap on Etsy and Amazon.
AI makes these pernicious, user hostile practices even easier.
Problem 2: Economic disruption
This has a bunch of aspects, but key to me is that *all* automation threatens people who have built a living on doing work. If previously difficult, high skill work suddenly becomes low skill, this is economically threatening to the high skill workers. Key to me is that this is true of *all* work, independent of whether the work is drudgery or deeply fulfilling. Go automate an Amazon fulfillment center and the employees will not be thanking you.
There's also just the general threat of existing relationships not accounting for AI, in terms of, like, residuals or whatever.
Problem 3: Opacity
Basically all these AI products are extremely opaque. The companies building them are not at all transparent about the source of their data, how it is used, or how their tools work. Because they view the tools as things they own whose outputs reflect on their company, they mess with the outputs in order to attempt to ensure that the outputs don't reflect badly on their company.
These processes are opaque and not communicated clearly or accurately to end users; in fact, because AI text tools hallucinate, they will happily give you *fake* error messages if you ask why they returned an error.
There's been allegations that Mid journey and Open AI don't comply with European data protection laws, as well.
There is something that does bother me, too, about the use of big data as a profit center. I don't think it's a copyright or theft issue, but it is a fact that these companies are using public data to make a lot of money while being extremely closed off about how exactly they do that. I'm not a huge fan of the closed source model for this stuff when it is so heavily dependent on public data.
Problem 4: Environmental maybe? Related to problem 3, it's just not too clear what kind of impact all this AI stuff is having in terms of power costs. Honestly it all kind of does something, so I'm not hugely concerned, but I do kind of privately think that in the not too distant future a lot of these companies will stop spending money on enormous server farms just so that internet randos can try to get Chat-GPT to write porn.
Problem 5: They kind of don't work
Text programs frequently make stuff up. Actually, a friend pointed out to me that, in pulp scifi, robots will often say something like, "There is an 80% chance the guards will spot you!"
If you point one of those AI assistants at something, and ask them what it is, a lot of times they just confidently say the wrong thing. This same friend pointed out that, under the hood, the image recognition software is working with probabilities. But I saw lots of videos of the Rabbit AI assistant thing confidently being completely wrong about what it was looking at.
Chat-GPT hallucinates. Image generators are unable to consistently produce the same character and it's actually pretty difficult and unintuitive to produce a specific image, rather than a generic one.
This may be fixed in the near future or it might not, I have no idea.
Problem 6: Kinetic sameness.
One of the subtle changes of the last century is that more and more of what we do in life is look at a screen, while either sitting or standing, and making a series of small hand gestures. The process of writing, of producing an image, of getting from place to place are converging on a single physical act. As Marshall Macluhan pointed out, driving a car is very similar to watching TV, and making a movie is now very similar, as a set of physical movements, to watching one.
There is something vaguely unsatisfying about this.
Related, perhaps only in the sense of being extremely vague, is a sense that we may soon be mediating all, or at least many, of our conversations through AI tools. Have it punch up that email when you're too tired to write clearly. There is something I find disturbing about the idea of communication being constantly edited and punched up by a series of unrelated middlemen, *especially* in the current climate, where said middlemen are large impersonal monopolies who are dedicated to opaque, user hostile practices.
Given all of the above, it is baffling and sometimes infuriating to me that the two most popular arguments against AI boil down to "Transformative works are theft and we need to restrict fair use even more!" and "It's bad to use technology to make art, technology is only for boring things!"

Hey everyone 👋🏽
Wasn’t the “Dream” premier something? I’m still feeling quite emotional 😭
I’m working on drafting quite an extensive piece on it. I’m honestly nervous to share it because this was such a significant moment, and I want to make sure I’ve conveyed everything as best as I can. I’m hoping to get it up in the next few days, but that depends on my OCD and my schedule so please bear with me 🙏🏽
In the meantime, I wrote the below on my IG page, but I’ll leave it here too. Some of the below wordage is in my draft, and it’ll go into the event post itself, but I won’t apologize for repeating anything because it needs to be said🩷
There is sooo much to unpack, from the clothes they thoughtfully chose to wear to their first premier together (not BTS / work related), to their body language…I’m just so incredibly proud of these two.
Taehyung wore a jacket by Juntae Kim, a gender fluid clothing brand. His shirt, a rare find on Etsy, is an Oscar Wilde and Morrisey print. Oscar paved the way for gay rights, and was imprisoned for two years for his involvement with Alfred Douglas. Morrisey coined the term “human sexual” to describe himself.
Jk’s jacket is also queer coded. The sleeve is an excerpt from “Anonymous Diary of a New York Youth, Vol. 3” which was written by Taylor Mead, a columnist for the first gay newspaper in NYC. The front pocket of the jacket contains significant biblical scripture. “For all sinned, and come short of the glory of God ~All we like sheep have gone astray ~Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
NOTHING IS COINCIDENCE WITH TAEKOOK! They’re smart. They know EXACTLY what they’re doing. Both outfits are queer coded and have deep meaning. And for their first unofficial event together to wear such meaningful clothes is loud in itself.
Not only were their outfits meaningful, their body language and expressions were too.
They’re familiar with red carpets in their line of work, but Jk was extra, adorably shy. Because this was a STATEMENT!
They didn’t walk with other members (who didn’t attend), they didn’t walk with Wooga. They walked TOGETHER.
This was about THEM.
And Tae made sure to be Jk’s safe space, as he always has been and always will be. He took his wrist when Jk hesitated before the photo wall. The way Jk looked at Tae when he turned back to take his wrist? They both knew when they walked onto the carpet exactly what that meant. How impactful it would be, the next step to normalizing their relationship. Tae guided Jk, and Jk’s expression lighting up when Tae turned speaks, trusting him, VOLUMES. They prioritize each other and they always will.
And once again, Jk showed how close he is with Wooga when he called SJ “Seo-Joonie Hyung”
They will ALWAYS choose each other. They will ALWAYS be close. No one on SM will ever change that.
They are so brave and strong. I’m in complete awe.
Taekook will change the world. I am so sure of it 🙏🏽
TAEKOOK FOREVER💜💚
Stay tuned for the post💜I hope I do it justice and I will do my very best🙏🏽

RECENT SEO & MARKETING NEWS FOR ECOMMERCE, March 2024
Tumblr media
Welcome to my roundup of SEO and marketing news and useful resources for ecommerce businesses, March edition. There is a lot going on with Google, and some really strong marketing pieces this time around, so let's get right to it.
SEO: GOOGLE & OTHER SEARCH ENGINES
Google launched both a core algorithm update and spam updates on March 5, with the spam update ending on the 20th. Core updates now include the Helpful Content algorithm. In early observations, Etsy and Reddit both picked up visibility in the UK.
The Helpful Content algorithm updates late last year destroyed a lot of sites’ Google traffic. Avoid the things they had in common.  You can read the full study here.
Ecommerce sites were some of the biggest losers in Google visibility in 2023, with Amazon, Walmart, eBay, Etsy, Target and Best Buy in the top 10 of sites whose Google appearances slipped.
New to Google SEO? They’ve revamped their SEO starter guide for people like you. And if you are more advanced and want to learn how to optimize your website product pages, this is a good overview.
This lengthy article on backlinks for ecommerce websites covers pretty much all the angles, including the really difficult ones.
Reminder that if you want to rank on Google for a search term, you need to look at what is already ranking, and make decisions based on that content. [video and transcript] This works for most search engines, not just Google.
Yes, Google crawls “high quality” content more often. I used to refer to this as Google thinking the page is “interesting”, so I guess I will need to change my wording...
While Google sends the most traffic to websites, people spend a lot more of their online time elsewhere. Market where people are, not just where your stats say they came from.
Sadly, Google has stopped providing caches of website pages in its search results. While you can still see the caches of some pages by using the Google search Cache:[page link] as in cache:https://cindylouwho-2.tumblr.com that will eventually stop working as well. Bing still provides caches, but unfortunately both it and the Wayback Machine do not crawl often enough to give really recent results most of the time.
Missed Google news in February? Here’s your update. And just in case you are really behind, here is January.
Not Google
Unsure if your website has enough good backlinks? Bing Webmaster Tools will now tell you if you don’t.
Yandex - the top search engine in Russia - was sold by its Dutch ownership group to a consortium in Russia.
SOCIAL MEDIA - All Aspects, By Site
General
A US study of social media use found that the most popular site was YouTube, with 83% of adults using it. Two-thirds of American adults use Facebook, while TikTok is up to ⅓ of the US population.
Because they do change periodically, here are the latest image and video sizes recommended for the top social media platforms. [infographic]
Bluesky is now open to everyone - it was previously invite-only.
Facebook (includes relevant general news from Meta)
Meta has introduced several changes to its Ad options, applying to Facebook and Instagram.
Meta had a great 4th quarter in 2023, with revenue, users, and earnings per share up. “Fast-growing upstarts Temu and Shein, which originated in China, have been pouring money into ads on Facebook and Instagram. Li said on Thursday that revenue from China-based advertisers accounted for 10% of sales for the year and 5 percentage points of growth.”
Instagram
An updated post on Instagram's algorithm and how it works.
Instagram is still beta testing longer Reels for some users.
If your account is a brand account, you can now run ads on Instagram with coupon codes right in them. (Some Facebook users can already do this.)
LinkedIn
Among other recent changes on LinkedIn, the algorithm is now looking to boost important content longer than just the first day or two after publication.
Pinterest
Pinterest has its own stats package, called Pinterest Analytics, but only for “Business” accounts. They show how many people clicked on the outgoing links, how many people saw your pin on their screen, and much more. Here’s everything you need to know.
Reddit
Reddit successfully launched on the stock market this past week, but questions remain about how this will change the site.
Google is paying Reddit to scrape its content through the API instead of from the web.
Snapchat
Snap was a little later than most tech companies doing layoffs recently, waiting until February 5 to let 10% off staff go.
Threads
Threads is so new that the algorithm is bound to change a lot in the next year, but for right now, here is how it works.
TikTok
There is an overwhelming amount of info out there on the US attempt to either ban TikTok or force its sale, and much of it is incomplete, so I will let you Google to your heart’s content if you want to learn more. If you are relying on TikTok to drive sales, this would be a good time to make sure you diversify your promotional strategy.
You can now track trending terms on TikTok through the Creator Search Insights section. “Creator Search Insights will highlight frequently searched topics, which creators can organize by category (for example, tourism, sports, science) or tailor to their content type with the “For You” option. Additionally, creators can filter for “content gap” topics, which are highly searched but have relatively few videos on TikTok covering them.“
TikTok may be testing a photo app, which would obviously compete with Instagram.
Twitter
What? Twitter may have lied about its Super Bowl ad performance? I’m so not shocked.
Tumblr
Tumblr will be selling data access to AI companies.
YouTube
This is a pretty decent article on YouTube SEO.
(CONTENT) MARKETING (includes blogging, emails, and strategies)
Small and micro-businesses need an email list. An email list is:
portable (unlike most social media followers or marketplace buyers)
is available to almost everyone, as we all need at least one email address if we are online
less susceptible to the whims of algorithms (unlike SEO, marketplaces, social etc.)
I keep seeing people argue that no one opens emails, but the chart in the article above is proof that is still wrong. (My blog email list averages close to a 70% open rate, depending on the topic and the time I send it. My jewellery email list - which I hardly ever send to - still has an over 30% open rate. My click rates are well above the industry averages, usually 30 to 40% of all recipients for the blog list. These are much better numbers than social, and astronomically better than my clickthrough rate on Google and other search engines.)
Gmail and Yahoo both changed how they handle bulk emails such as newsletters in February. Here’s what you need to know on the basics, including authenticating yourself so your email gets through.
Find out how to get people to read all the way to the end of your content.
Get ready for April marketing with 5 topical ideas. National Handmade Day is April 6.
We should all think twice before deciding to use AI to create content. “Circa 2024, generative AI does not produce new ideas or even develop its own conclusions. Rather, it regurgitates information that it has indexed.” Not convinced? Here’s another article. “AI-generated content represents the literal “average of everything online.”
ONLINE ADVERTISING (EXCEPT INDIVIDUAL SOCIAL MEDIA AND ECOMMERCE SITES)
Google Ads can now be tracked in Google Analytics 4.
Both Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising were up in the 4th quarter of 2023.
STATS, DATA, TRACKING
Google Analytics 4 tracks organic traffic differently than the previous version. Here’s how to figure it out.
BUSINESS & CONSUMER TRENDS, STATS & REPORTS; SOCIOLOGY & PSYCHOLOGY, CUSTOMER SERVICE
I’ve probably posted this specific article before, but it is worth another read: how to communicate with customers.  For example, “Mirroring your customer’s tone lets them know you’re on their side. If a customer is formal, for example, hold back on the LOLs. If they’re more casual, relax your tone.”
According to a US study, Generation Z is skewing the traditional marketing funnel. “Per Archrival’s data, 77 per cent of Gen Zs and 79 per cent of millennials in the US are actively seeking style inspiration at least monthly, with almost half of those looking for style inspiration on social media. When asked where they learn about new brands, products and experiences, video reigns supreme: YouTube is the most popular platform with Gen Zs, followed by TikTok, then Instagram.”
Trend alert: bag charms are back.
IMAGES, VIDEO, GRAPHIC DESIGN, & FREE ONLINE TOOLS
Almost all of these 12 video tools are free, and some can be used on your phone.
MISCELLANEOUS
This is an older piece, but it checks out: IKEA Hacks for Craft Show Displays. A few of these could be done with non-IKEA items.

So I'm considering selling some of my stuff on Etsy (I do resin) and was wondering if you had any tips?
Depends on what kind of tips you're after? If it's marketing, I can't help you... I only have 'sharing links on Tumblr and hoping someone likes my stuff enough to click off-site and take a look'...
Otherwise, clear and professional looking pictures of what you're selling, include the sizing in the description, be open to making certain changes for people (if it's jewellery for example, say you can do alternative ear wires for those with metal sensitivities or something, if that's an option for you), and maybe look at some recent advice videos on SEO stuff for Etsy on YouTube (I'm out of date now).
Lemme know if there was something specific you were after and I'll try and help though :)
Edit: as was pointed out in the notes, the various platform fees suck and they take a HUGE chunk out of your earnings. You also have to pay to list things which hurts so much if you don't sell the listing. I used Ko-fi shop for a while but typing out all the customs forms and stuff for shipping labels to America and other countries was so painful...

Went poking around to see what kinda tutorials are out there on how to use Etsy's API (there's not much) and also to see if anyone's doing any fun stats stuff w Etsy data (doesn't seem like?), and now my recommended videos are infested with How To Earn $999,999 A Month On Etsy With AI ART / Top Ten SEO Hacks YOU NEED / Here's What Etsy Doesn't Want You To Know etc etc etc :(
But it also rec'd a 40min vid of someone poring over an Excel sheet of AO3 data, which sounds WAY closer to what I'm going for, so that's nice

The Importance of SEO for Etsy Sellers
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is crucial for Etsy sellers aiming to increase their visibility and sales. With millions of listings on Etsy, effective SEO practices can make a significant difference in standing out from the competition.
Firstly, Etsy's search algorithm prioritizes listings that are well-optimized with relevant keywords. By conducting thorough keyword research and incorporating these keywords into titles, tags, and descriptions, sellers can improve their chances of appearing in search results. This increased visibility leads to more traffic to their shop, which can translate into higher sales.
Secondly, good SEO enhances the user experience. When listings are clearly described with accurate keywords, potential buyers can easily find what they are looking for. This not only boosts the chances of a sale but also encourages repeat customers and positive reviews, both of which are crucial for long-term success on Etsy.
Moreover SEO on Etsy is not a one-time effort but requires continuous optimization. Regularly updating listings with new keywords, refining descriptions, and analyzing which strategies yield the best results can help sellers stay competitive.
By focusing on SEO, Etsy sellers can ensure their products reach a wider audience, improve their shop’s credibility, and achieve sustainable growth in a crowded marketplace.

Hello Kay,
Sometimes it takes time. The best thing you can do is look at your competition and read their reviews. See what customer like about their shop and what they complain about to make sure you can keep that in mind. Work on SEO, have great images and promote promote promote. 8. What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in
oooooooof yeah so uh. in uni i had a romcom webcomic idea that i was super excited about--it follows a college-age loser girl name Calan who discovers one of her classmates has turned into a ghost that only she can see, and for Reasons they have to go on a cross-country trip, during which they start to fall in love. it was called Fainthearted (AMAZING name btw, i'm so so thankful for the anon that came up with that for me) and i did a few concept arts and it was going to be nice and bright and colourful and people seemed excited! and i kept announcing that i was going to actually make it for real and then i just never. did. and every time i remember this i just feel sooooo guilty.
the problem isn't that i lost interest in it per se, it's just that i realized romcom is a genre i'm not good at writing, and i kept finding things i was busy with (first my thesis film and school in general, and then my job whuh). now that i HAVE the free time i technically coullllldddd work on it for real, but now i have other stories that take priority, and i'm not sure how Fainthearted is going to fit into everything. i would LOVE to actually get the comic made! but drawing a comic is so hard and time consuming that i'm not sure i'd ever gussy up to do it :'0
19. Favorite inanimate objects to draw (food, nature, etc.)
i love drawing clothes. i suck at designing them, but i love drawing them.
30. What piece of yours do you think is underrated
not an illustration but MY CLAY PINS?? are getting no love on etsy and neither are my fish. i thought people liked my fish drawings 🥺 (but also i get it bc it's hard to get SEO for original arts)

Considering a VA is an independent worker. Business owners can spend on something other than leave credits and benefits like a regular employee receives.
2. Saves time
Most of the VAs have experience in their expertise. This means that you can skip training. They know what to do and have the knowledge and skills to impact your business growth. And since VAs are remote workers, they know how to manage their time and tasks well. On top of that, a Virtual Assistant can multitask while ensuring quality outputs.
3. Proper tasks delegation
When you outsource, you are delegating tasks effectively. Why is that so? As your business is continuously growing, tasks are also increasing. In that case, you need to leverage a Virtual Assistant’s abilities in coping with duties. Similarly, your office employees can focus on their tasks, and you, as the owner, will focus on and prioritize core duties.
