eddie’s hand had been tightly held in yours for the past twenty minutes, feet striding as he guides you home from steve’s house. he’s quiet and calm for once, the nightly wind blowing his hair and he’s looking at the scenery that passes but from your small walking scuffs and sharp inhales, he’s pulled to gaze at your feet.

“sore?” asks eddie, and you nod slightly, “just a little bit.” it had been a small get-together, the kids and young adults having a movie night at steve’s house and once the night was pulled to an end eddie has assured you and him could walk home instead of hitching a ride from anyone.

you and eddie. something that was blossoming but not yet official. he wanted to do everything with you, it was always the two of you and you had even been on a couple of dates but you were awaiting it to become more official for your overthinking brain.

“god, i’ll carry you! why didn’t you say something before?” ever the dramatic munson, and you giggle shyly while tugging his hand, “it’s not that bad, i’m okay. we’re only a couple of minutes away now.” you didn’t want to be, despite your sore feet, and eddie felt the same. the warmth of his hand in yours just too loving and butterfly-inducing that you wanted it to last that bit longer.

but you found yourself turning into your street, your own home coming in to view and you fight off the urge to invite him in, to sleep on the couch because you already know he’d refuse taking up your bed. you turn to face him once you both stop by your front door, he looked beautiful, loose and wind-swept curls framing his face and his eyes gleaming below his precious fringe.

eddie chuckled at how shy you looked, timid smile and tense frame as you open your mouth to speak. “thank you, eds,” you gape up at him slightly and he smiles to warmly while watching you, it was almost intimidating. “anytime, pretty.”

you hang your head low, trying to contain your flustered reaction to his words. however, it only gets far more overwhelming when you feel eddie’s gaze continue to look over you with the cutest look on his face.

he could tell something was on your mind, the way your feet shuffle against the ground and your frame seems hesitant to move inside. “you alright?” eddie asks adamantly but small into the quiet air, as if you’re the only two people in the world.

you look up to the affectionate boy, eyes gleaming but scared and eddie’s is patient in return, allowing you the time to muster up the words you’ve been so desperate to ask. when you ask, it’s so murmured and rushed, so quiet and timid but eddie smiles knowingly when he asks, “what was that, pretty girl?”

he’s enamoured by your reactions to his pet names, the sole reason he says them, when your lashes flutter and eyebrows twitch and your smile is hard to contain. “are you my boyfriend, eds?” eddie’s face is so close to yours, breath fanning yours and nose ghosting the slope of your own.

he’s smiling, so happy with the question and you almost forget why you were so worried, almost. “i don’t know, am i?” eddie teases, willing to keep the conversation going ever so slightly longer, enjoying the way you physically fluster, frame tense and shy.

you shrug, a little incoherent hum emitting your throat as you gaze up at his intense eyes, and he tilts his head to make it that more intimidating. but despite it all, you were comforted by him and your stomach flips at how sweet he looks at you.

“guess you’ll have to ask me extra nicely and find out,” you can tell eddie’s enjoying himself far too much. leather-clad arms clasped behind his back as he bends down to accommodate close to your face and your blink is scarce.

you ask, rushed and rambled once again and eddie only grins widely before turning his head so his ear faces you, a little, “what was that, honey?” and you’re huffing anxiously before building yourself up for the last time.

“will you be my boyfriend eddie?” with that eddie looks back at you before standing tall, his arms snake around the small of your back to lift you closer to him, your left on your tippy toes, “course i will, you nut!”

eddie places a sloppy kiss against your cheek, ever the affectionate man and he can feel the heat of your skin from asking the question. “dunno why you were so worried there, as if i’d be an idiot enough to even think about saying no!”

“you really want to be my boyfriend?” you ask in disbelief and his eyes flicker over every sliver of your expression, glimmering eyes and a slightly gaped mouth. “i’ve waited for the day i could be,” eddie only responds and you’re so giddy and full of joy.

your boyfriend keeps you flush against him, not willing to pull away just yet when you fawn, “i’ve never had a boyfriend before.”

you look so dreamy and content with the way the end of the night played out and eddie plans on kissing you, but before he does so he adds, “guess i’m the luckiest person in the world then, huh?”

a year of fandom in recs

cutie pie @garagepaperback tagged me in a 2024 fandom wrap up post and so yeah, i'll hop on the sentimental train. i've been inspired by so many things this year and i shall do my best to honour them in the rambling list below!

having previously been an avid lurker, i've thoroughly enjoyed making friends with some truly inspiring people in this fandom. without a doubt this has been a bright, bright spot on my year and im so grateful! you're all so wonderful and i love you and hope you know that.

@kk1smet has been a source of joy and inspiration from the start. my first ever fic (Got Me Started) was inspired by their prompts, and then my first ever fest fic (Mirror, Me) was sparked by their stunning art. THEN they honoured me with my first ever fanart for my fic (To Be Punished). im so blessed to call them a friend!

i can draw a straight line from every single word i've posted on ao3 to the fanworks that inspired them. ive read/seen sooo many wonderful things this year and it's impossible for me to name them all. ive picked out a few below the cut that are directly responsible for lighting a fire in me so strong i had to write that shit down. if you haven't already, please give some of these fanworks a go, they're all top notch.

+ @yiiiiiiiikes25 wrote cruising altitude from the raven cycle fandom and it fucking rocked my world. i am telling you right now, i have never read anything like it. it is an absolute masterclass in craft. every single word is thoughtful and precise. i thought i knew what voice and diction and pov were and how they can be used to tell the story you want to tell but really, i had no idea. yikes has this way of pulling you so deeply into a characters pov that its honestly disorienting to come out of. i fell in love with these random boys from a fandom i'd never read nor cared for, and i keep going back. i don't care if you are drarry monogamous, if you want to experience some of the best this dumb hobby we're all addicted to has to offer, i implore you, go read cruising altitude. go. GO. and then go read the rest of yikes catalogue bc ofc they also do drarry impeccably.

+ @garagepaperback i read this heaven of mud and haven't been the same since. then i read javelin and ive been permanently altered once more. not only is garage directly responsible for exes becoming my all time favourite trope, but the way they explore the deep, long-lasting effects of trauma (in these and all your other fics) is second to none! its incredibly beautiful and impactful and has left such as lasting impression on me. and all that is wrapped up in some of the most poetic and stunning prose ive ever had the pleasure of reading?!?!! get out of here (but also please dont i value our friendship dearly)

+ @mintawasalreadytaken i read All I Want For Kwithmath and then i went on a tear and read most of their Dead Drarry: Do Not Eat series and honestly had the BEST TIME. they write some of the greatest toxic, kinky, fucked up drarry, but somehow make it so i really fucking care about these two idiots, and want the best for them?? minta is so good at hooking you right from the top and then pounding those hooks in deeper and deeper. the end result is that i now cradle toxic drarry in my hands and wont ever let them go (and sometimes I even try writing them)

+ @eleadore's as the plant that never blooms and everything i could ever want helped to shape and sand the edges of the drarry dynamic i love and want to write! el writes some of the hottest, most rewarding, prickly to tender drarry out here. pls run don't walk.

+ @faiell and i shared our drarry fic debuts on ao3 this year and their fic, Purple, absolutely blew me out of the water. it's expertly written, hot as fuck, contains the shifting power dynamics that are at the core of what i love about drarry, and has SUCH A satisfying ending. i was grinning and cackling for about 3-4 business days after reading. (also peep their tumblr to scream at their art) fai, i've said it before and ill say it again, i'll follow you into fire, i really will.

this post is getting far far too long but i cannot end it without also mentioning some (not exhaustive) of the STAND OUT creators i've had the pleasure of experiencing for the first time this year. i'll include a rec (all drarry unless stated otherwise) + whatever unhinged drivel i put in my bookmark for each but it goes without saying that the talent runs deep and id rec multiple creations from these guys if this post wasn't already novel length.

@oknowkiss' draco malfoy's substitute murder service: this made me laugh out loud at several points and its only 10k!!!! also draco is simply lovely, i love him so so so so very much i want to be his friend and just listen to him talk and be insane. this whole thing is thoroughly enjoyable.

@mono-chromia's Red Wine Supernova: everything about this is wonderful, the relationship development, the sex, the writing. you'll want draco to step on your face after reading.

peu_a_peu's The Superfluous Man: utterly delightful, hilarious, i want to stay in the feeling this fic gave me forever and ever. never not thinking about flustered yet domestic draco, endless quotes. An mpreg?? WHAT?? it's peu.

@stratigraphywrites' Untouched: this is delicious!!!! the push and pull between draco and harry is expert. extremely extremely hot

keigo in my newer style since I finally watched s7!! 🧡🌟

I had sooo much fun choosing what I would headcanon/fancast his features as (peep the dimples, i like those heheh,, i just know in-universe there would be at least one fan account dedicated to them lol). My style these days is a lot more grounded in realism so it was hard finding references without an exact face to use-- kind of like a collage. I like how it turned out! I hope this fed my MHA followers & mutuals for a bit, I hath not forgotten you~~!! I really enjoyed season 7, I already know the major beats of what happens next in the manga but I haven't actually read it so I'm waiting with bated breath!!

bonus: I rambled about keigo in the tags but I have big feelings after finishing the season so it ended up long hehe (the tags on my posts are slowly becoming a notes app for fandom shower thoughts atm bruh!!)

My guilty pleasure is reading reviews complaining about Gideon The Ninth

One of my favorite complaints is the mixing up of characters, to many characters, and to many names/titles for characters. Which is fair enough relatable, but I just find it funny how once you know the last names for characters, I would say it's pretty obvious which house a character belongs to. The last names are not subtle (and I absolutely love deconstructing words with prefixes and suffixes, so maybe I'm the weirdo). I'll just have them here, but I'm pretty sure this is obvious (maybe not at first, though)

Nona- nine (Nonagesimus)

Octo- eight (Octakiseron)

Sept- seven (Septimus)

Sext- six (Sextus)

Pent-five

Tetra- four (tettares, close enough)

Tri- three (Tridentarius, also a sea snail)

Duetero- second (Dueteros)

Also, the complaints about characters' names being all over the place and random is genuinely funny to me because as far as fantasy novels go, the names in the series are quite tame (personally to me). If anything, they're from/ made up with Greek and Latin words for the last names, and the back of the novel has a neat pronunciation guide so I don't know what to say if the hypothetical bad review reader is struggling with that (except I understand and have been there for certain books in confusing up characters. Like Blister and Burn in WoF for which is which).

But also the bad reviews for people missing the lesbian context and getting upset about lack of world building I feel bad for because they're missing out on some amazing cow facts later on

ummm. Oh god. How to start. Lets see. WELL. In this silly little au (i guess it has become a bit more than just me doodling designs LOL) in my head they have like this sort of zelink dynamic? obviously without all the zelda lore & stuff, just that kind of … okay forgive me I haven’t brushed up on my zelink lore for a good many years but. Like the princess and her personal knight that doesn’t really talk much sort of thing.

this made more sense in my head. But yeah. They have the vibes of zelink ? At least if i remember zelink right, I have a really bad memory :’) not exactly the same, i do think etho talks to joel (whereas if iirc link never really talks) - especially after getting to know him a bit - but just. they have the Vibes. You know?

I reckon Joel’s definitely very into sculpting in this au, maybe dabbles a little in painting - I imagine mezalea to be very heavy on art and expression in general. think you’d especially see lots of pottery and textiles all around the place. He probably also has an interest in some form of like. um. whats the word. Some sort of … fighting. lmao. Specifically thinking of fencing, i had this idea in my head that he’s watched Etho practice outside the palace at some point and is just absolutely fascinated and enamored. by both the practice and etho himself haha.

and for etho… talented swordsman? he is Not washed. i dont really have many ideas for his character in this au To be completely honest, mostly just of his personality. Although, I alsooo think he’s probably not actually from mezalea? I like to draw him with those pointy elf ears, and i think mezaleans are just humans. I cant remember if thats canon or not but um. mezaleans have human ears, so i’d imagine etho’s probably from like.. rivendelle? Is that. What it’s called. The elf guys? Are they elves??? Goodness I cant remember. Grimlands would make sense too since i THINK they’re kind of like. technical engineer guys? but i dont know what species they are um so ,,, yeah,,,,

i think joel’s probably a bit put off by etho at first, mostly just because he’s not super enthused about the idea of a personal guard, but also because the guys a bit odd, you know? but he’s also probably suuuper intrigued by him. he wants to figure this new guy out, and when they start talking a bit more, i think. They are both incredibly charmed by the other. head over heels? possibly.

most of my ideas of this au are just little scenes that are cute and silly but dont follow any main plot. I would love to write some one-shots of some of the ideas i have in the future, but as of right now im experiencing a bout of creative burnout and am busy with the holidays - spending time with family, so… not right now lol!

hopefully this is what you wanted,,,, i tend to get very ramble-y when talking about literally anything, so i do apologize for that haha, i am Not good at explaining things in simple ways, as i’ve said many a time before.

How do I categorize this] and I've been destroyed by the fact that ruler art is infinitely superior [and 10x longer] and i don't have a good enough grasp on lip gloss's personality to make fanfiction so I am frozen in "want make fanart but fanart takes effort :["

Chakotay being a person who (while of course being willing to follow orders to a point) ultimately puts what's morally right and wrong in his eyes over Starfleet protocol while Tuvok is shown to be a person who will follow Starfleet protocol (and more accurately Janeway's word) over what he personally thinks is right is something that could have been so interesting if the three of them were actually shown as a triumvirate instead of it usually being Janeway-Chakotay and even then mostly just Janeway.

It would be an opportunity to explore more about the Maquis v Starfleet dynamic, about how Chakotay & Janeway's different leadership styles work and don't work with this new crew and with different people, to interrogate what exactly Voyager should look like - to incorporate more leniency and Maquis tactics into its operation so that they really do become a blended ship instead of the Maquis simply becoming subsumed into Starfleet. It'd also give more opportunities to let all three characters shine and introduce more moral quandaries that they can have differing ideas about and how does that affect them? At one point Tuvok is willing to go against Janeway's orders because she wants to do something but can't due to Starfleet protocol. In another episode he also follows Janeway's orders to assist in killing an entire ship of people despite that being against both Starfleet protocol and certain moral standards because she feels strongly that they should. He protests this but once she rebukes him he doesn't object again or attempt to stop her (like Chakotay - though they both know at that point that she's crossing lines). This sort of implies to me that he's much more loyal to Janeway herself than he is to Starfleet as a concept. Meanwhile Janeway is shown to be staunchly and strictly Starfleet - adopting the code AS her moral compass a lot of the time. She sometimes has to go off-script due to the nature of their situation but most of her decisions are made depending on how Starfleet would feel about it. If she wants to do something but Starfleet would disagree, she rarely if ever questions Starfleet protocol and instead will go with what it says is best even if it's painful on a personal level. She also tells Tuvok in the episode aforementioned that he is "Her advisor, her moral compass" and having a moral compass/advisor that's either a bunch of rules written by the space government or a person who is mostly just going to agree with you no matter what they actually think and not challenge you if you rebuke them isn't the best idea. Enter Chakotay. Chakotay's willingness to disagree with Janeway and not back down is something I wish had been shown more. When he says "I don't care about logs or reports or whatever - I care about person to person shit. I care about what's right and what you're doing is wrong." it's something that could be so interesting and so necessary when contrasted with the other two. A good example is of course 'Equinox' but also 'Manuevers' where he goes off against literally everyone's orders and friendly advice because he feels responsible. And that's important - he's doing it because he feels responsible. That's different from Tuvok (who doesn't feel) and Janeway (who would most likely try to find comfort in protocol) - because Chakotay feels he's responsible and that he needs to protect the crew since he (in his eyes) is the one who put them in danger. He's a person who's shown to be willing to go against everything anyone says in order to do what he feels is right if the wrong is too great to allow. Voyager if these three were actually allowed to argue and be equals and figure out how to work together as sort of a microcosm of how this new blended crew is going to be able to fight and work and band together.
