I feel a lot of people misunderstand Portia in why she ask about Colin's love

One thing I find really disheartening about reactions/opinions on this episode is the conceptual clap backs of "Did Debling love her?!?!"

Because that response makes me feel someone is missing something in the storytelling. As a response, it has never made sense to me, because.... he never had to!

'Lord Debling was a reasonable match." This guy has acted in every single way The Gentleman. This guy has money, this guy came to Lady Featherington like a respectable adult and asked for Penelope's hand, this guy will be absent, and so THIS guy also Won't Hurt Her! She laid this out in episode 4, To Portia he is an IDEAL catch.

Then comes this news of Bitch-boy Colin (painting from a Portia-esque perspective), that she read IN WHISTLEDOWN!! He does not hold water with her 🚫 This Season, all she has seen of this dude is that he is a flirt. "The most desired man of the season." Regardless of what she thinks Penelope's feelings likely are, she only sees that Colin is NOT serious about her. Freshly back from galavanting across the sea, she does see Colin as serious PERIOD. All the letters Pen wrote, All the teas at Bridgerton house....for years Portia has watched him NEVER WANTING HER! Yet somehow an engagement occurred some time between her daughter leaving a party and family breakfast the next morning... 🤨🧐 Chat shit right?? Her mind must be screaming: HELP ME UNDERSTAND! (In a snarky, passive aggressive way - because she's the one)

Portia has a right to feel awful disrespected that Colin "I'm a gentleman" Bridgerton didn't come to her first. Like they don't have beef!! 😳 He's been engaged to someone from the Featherington household before, yet... there was no wedding. But Pen (who she thinks of is having less attractions than Marina) somehow is different?

You know who extended the olive branch to the Featherington name to help saved them from drowning in the social ruin of the reveal of Marina's pregnancy? DAPHNE! He was mad at Marina sure, but you know who he showed he didn't care what happened to while he turned his back? You Penelope!! 🤷🏻‍♂️He could have helped soften the blow like Kate, Edwina, and Anthony tried to do after their failed wedding. But he didn't. The only thing Penelope seemed to believe held her back from commiting to Debling as her husband is this 'Love' nonsense. So if Colin is the Superior choice, he must be giving her what she thought was missing from a marriage, something she thought Debling couldn't provide!

"You have it?" - Portia.

Penelope says she's SURE he CARES about her. But 'care' wasn't the exceptional parameter? To be so certain that you just threw away a good 90% qualification-meeting gentleman, you must have heard this truth that gives you that 10% to match the fantasy were "LOVE"(which Big P don't believe in) is. Right? You thought, you know, but what did he say it??? Has he told you he's giving you what makes choosing him over Debling worth it? Are you getting what you gambled for?!

Portia looks DEFEATED because Pen is betting on fantasies and wishes, without even the vocalized proof of Colin's feelings!!!!!!

"Oh Penelope"= "Girl I feel bad for you", "you sweet summer child." She's repulsed that Pen was SO short-sighted.

I feel like while her reaction is extreme and harsh, it really isn't too difficult to imagine a semi-reasonable parent (with Portia's trauma) may be distraught hearing that their daughter chose to follow a career in ..... like the Arts, that she loves (Colin), when she already had a place at Yale law School (Debby). Without Colin's declaration it's like she mailed in her withdrawal letter and is packing to move into an artist collective commune -- without a lease! Not even guaranteed a spot, setting fire to your previous life plans! It is not right, and it is not okay to treat your children as if they need to live their life as you would. However, for someone who holds security above all Pen has thrown away her last chance at a good life. Pen has shattered a chance at bedrock that Portia knows Pen don't even understand how much she should value! Portia has shielded her from how it feels to watch the ground you've built your life on crumble from underneath her. The fear of having no husband, no son, and no money. Which I think adds to the anger in her tone.

Debling never NEEDED to love Penelope. Why he was a better, more secure match than Colin was everything BESIDES love. What makes Debling a valuable prospect has a very little overlap with what makes Colin Penelope's first choice. Therefore trying to grade them on the same standard..... it doesn't matter if Portia cares about love, it doesn't matter if Debling would EVER say he loves Penelope. So while it matters if Colin has told her that he loves her, he's the only one who has to.

The Passion of Sanemi Shinazugawa

Sanemi has no chill.

We all been knew this. His chill is one of the things that the fandom has accepted canonically doesn't exist, like Inosuke's uniform shirt or Zenitsu's dating standards, but the reason for his lack of chill and generally aggressive behavior is still a much debated topic to this day.

I have made two posts here and here breaking down his backstory, his trauma and socio-economical circumstances that made him the man he is today but, I still wasn't satisfied. Something nagged me about this character and his personality that I couldn't put my finger on. So I pondered, for days going through each episode, rereading the manga taking note of his actions and interactions with other characters.

Then, it finally hit me.

Ladies and gentlemen, I believe I've found the answer.

Sanemi, our sweet boy, is SEXUALLY FRUSTRATED.

Let me explain.

What is sexual frustration?

According to Medical News Today,

Sexual frustration describes a state of irritation, agitation, or stress resulting from sexual inactivity or dissatisfaction. Sexual frustration is a common, natural feeling, and it can affect anyone.

Some symptoms include:

Feeling irritable, restless, and edgy (so Sanemi's entire personality?)

Engaging in unhealthy coping skills (like wanting to brawl with another man for no reason and after having a sexually-charged training session 🤨)

Performing riskier behaviors to fulfill sexual desires (like exposing your entire chest and leaving it vulnerable just so you can show off your tits like a slut 🤨🤨).

Compulsive or hypersexual behaviors (like wanting to grab another man by the hair just so he won't go away 🤨🤨🤨)

Depression or anxiety for men (see this post)

“Seeking revenge” against targets that are the believed source of the frustration (basically Sanemi vs Giyuu)

Displaced frustration on targets with no connection to the frustration (Sanemi vs Tanjiro vs Junior Slayers)

How did this cum to be?

Okay so, I have this headcanon that the Shinazugawa men have a high sex drive. I mean, there's the seven kids from Kyogo which means he had to be laying pipe...a lot(F's in the chat for Shizu 😔) and Genya's horniness when he breathes the same air as a girl, so it's safe to say that Sanemi also has a high sex drive.

After the tragedy that struck his family (Shizu killing the kids, not Kyogo's death because fuck that guy), Sanemi lost any hope or chance of a normal life. In the light novel Sign post of the Wind, Sanemi tells Masachika that life isn't for fun, and he has expressed his distaste for 'frivolous' things.

He denies himself these things because he believes he doesn't deserve them, why should he enjoy life when he killed his mom, when he couldn't protect his siblings, when his brother rightfully hates him, when demons still exist, when families are still being ripped apart, when his colleagues and juniors are being killed and when Genya is in constant danger. The only thing he allows himself is ohagi which is a reminder of happier times.

He has no time for friends, for love and definitely not for sex, which by extension includes masturbation. He won't be able to jerk off without seeing the faces of his mom and his siblings -and yes, that sentence was just as awkward for me writing it as you reading it- so he resigned himself to a life of solitude and sexual frustration, which caused him to develop his aggressive and no-chill personality but at least he was able to manage for a while, that was until he met Giyuu.

Cum hither Giyuu

Sanemi's no-nut journey became even more unbearable when he met Giyuu. There was just something about that sappy, derpy, stupid face that stole his heart and even though Giyuu's personality should've made it easy to stay away, the power of love and horny didn't allow that to happen.

Like I mentioned before in a previous post, what followed was a series of sexually-tense situations and interactions between the two Hashiras, so every time Giyuu happened to enter Sanemi's field of vision, I guess you could say more or less he was:

Reaching out for help

In the light of their impending doom with Muzan's arrival, Sanemi has a realization; he's obviously going to die soon, that doesn't scare Sanemi, he's accepted the fact that he's going to die anyway but to die as a virgin? Now that's not good. With the failure of trying to reach out to Giyuu in the Hashira meeting and the disaster that was the attempted eye-poking incident and being shamed by a 16-year-old Sanemi decides 'fuck it' and tries to reach out to Giyuu again.

But he can't go crawling to Giyuu and be like 'please fuck me', no no no that would not do instead he has the brilliant idea to challenge Giyuu to combat under the guise of 'training' in some misguided hope that the spar would get both their temperatures up which would in turn get Giyuu horny enough to rip off his clothes and fuck him. Yay! The plan is foolproof!

I already mentioned in this post how Sanemi's suggestion for a brawl made no sense as he could have just taken the Muichiro route and suggested they use their actual katanas, but no he wanted a full body contact brawl. Like look at how excited he was at the concept of brawling with Giyuu, like no wonder Tanjiro was scared for Giyuu!

JUST LOOK AT THIS FACE!!! LOOK AT THE DESPERATION!!! OUR BOY IS SO PENT UP HE'S ON THE VERGE OF INSANITY!!!

THIS IS THE FACE OF A MAN WHO HASN'T NUTTED IN 21 YEARS! He was literally begging BEGGING Giyuu to touch him! 😭

Tanjiro(bestest boy ❤️) was rightfully afraid for his big bro, so he intercepts (read cock blocks) Sanemi! After the events of the final showdown we see a more relaxed, almost peaceful Sanemi which tells us one thing - our boy finally got laid!

Well Giyuu, duh. I theorize that it happened sometime during the three months of recuperation before Tanjiro woke up, and they had their last Hashira meeting. I mean, look at how they're smiling at each other, you can't tell me these guys didn't fuck at least once.

Sanemi came(lol) out(lol again!) of the encounter a changed man. He's moisturized, demure, in his lane, thriving.

I've been loosely following it, like I know whats happening but I'm not as engaged and I usually wait till other people post about whats going on Green's numerous channels than actively search for it

But overall, I think it's funny

Like yes, it's showcasing the dangers and pitfalls of Internet culture and Influencer Lifestyles and Yes, it sucks that Green is reaping the lonely consequences of his actions

spoilers for chapter 5 part 2 (and maybe part 1)!

Shiro comes back after his contract with his demon is finally made and settled. fun fact; compared to the rest of the butlers (who took 4-6 months to make their contracts), Shiro only took 2 months.

he makes a contract with a demon called Gaap. Gaap’s special ability is to block certain parts of someone’s memory. Berrien believes he could use this ability to awaken Bellen from the state he is in now;

[as Bellen fell under the control of his demon after experiencing great despair, by blocking those memories he would come back to normal after Berrien removes his power keeping him in a dormant state.]

Berrien decides to talk to the “person” he and Aruji spoke to in Bellen’s “heart” (in his inner mind). the person as Berrien suspected was Belial, the demon he has a contract with.

Berrien, Shiro and Aruji go into Bellen’s “heart”. they meet Belial again who knew what prompted them to visit soon and which demon Shiro had a contract with. he affirms that this time the chance of Bellen coming back to normal was high.

[when Bellen would awaken, he would be under full control of Byleth (his demon) who would go on a rampage, taking out his 2000+ years of anger out. (Byleth is a demon that’s wrathful and evil by nature.).]

Belial gives Berrien an offer: to lend his power to Berrien to fight Bellen (in his “demonised” state.) in return however Berrien would forever lose his demonic ability of preventing the progression of one’s fall to their demon, i.e. the “demonisation” (as he stops “time” for them.)

with this, Belial tells Berrien to think it over. Berrien, goes back with Aruji and Shiro. they have a huge discussion with all the butlers over whether to take this offer as Berrien would forever lose his very important ability. in the end they all decide to go for it. the other butlers wanted to wait for Shiro since he had just made the contract with his demon so using his ability this soon could prove dangerous but Belial had confirmed that that only happens when the demon resents the person they are bound to; in case of Shiro, Gaap had accepted him.

they visit the training site (the one where the new devil butlers go for their initial training). they bring Bellen with them. (after a cute scene where Aruji comforts Berrien who was feeling nervous about what could possibly happen if they go through with their plan), they proceed with their plan.

Belial lends his power to Berrien (and unlike the usual cases we’ve had so far, Berrien is conscious of what he’s doing.). he removes the power on Bellen causing Bellen (under the control of Byleth) to awaken. Byleth is super pissed off, they engage in a fight but since Berrien is used to the fighting style of Bellen, the battle ends pretty quickly.

Aruji summons Gaap for Shiro and his ability is used to block the memory (which put Bellen in despair) for Bellen.

now, the next morning, while they’re still at the training site but in the lodge there, Bellen wakes up. he has a reunion with Berrien who cries his heart out 😭 a bit later, Aruji finally gets acquainted with Bellen.

Bellen is revealed to have fuzzy memories of his past and absolutely no idea of what caused him to fall under the control of his demon.

Bellen and Shiro stay at the training site for the training the butlers do when they newly join. Aruji and some of the other butlers leave.

2 weeks later they arrive back and settle into the second floor of the villa which has been made beautifully, courtesy of our interior designer, Boschi ✨

afterwards, upon Bellen’s request, with Aruji, Berrien and Shiro accompanying him, they visit the orphanage where they were raised. and he sees that almost nothing is left after the angel attack years ago. then he visits Espoir where he remarks that almost everything has changed.

the statue of Goetia also did not look like him at all. Berrien explains that after being damaged in the numerous attacks of angels and being rebuilt as a result, it no longer resembled Goetia anymore.

while they’re going down memory lane and nostalgia, the signature alarm rings, signaling the presence of angels. Shiro takes them down swiftly, despite having no prior battle experience with angels.

a little later, back at the mansion, Bellen is shown the key that is believed to have been owned by Goetia in the past. Bellen is revealed to not remember anything about it besides the fact that Goetia did own it. so their goal of finding what the key unlocked hits a dead end.

they also bring up the fact that they still don’t know anything about the basement floor of the facility owned by the Sardis (the “Prison of Calamity” where Lato was kept) and the mysterious door in it that’s made from the same material as the ancient towers.

Miyaji suggests that instead of focusing on that, they should instead find out more about the “traitor”. this is in regards to what Finlay suspects; that there may be someone leaking information (of the devil butlers to the angels. if you need more context about this, send me an ask! this is a bit of a long one since it’s not explained in this part but in the previous chapter.).

afterwards, they share light-hearted talk. Bellen decides that Berrien should keep his old spear (Bellen’s spear had been used by Berrien for the past 2000+ years as a way to remember him. when Berrien tried to return it, Bellen instead wanted Berrien to keep it with himself.). Bellen attempts to make Shiro closer to them as Shiro reiterated that he was only here to recover his compatriots from the angels—so to say he was using the butlers. Bellen responds brightly to this, saying that he should also do favours for the butlers in order to get their cooperation for this mission of his (Shiro’s). and then he invites him for a drink which Shiro does not respond to. after suggesting tea instead, Shiro says that he’ll think about it.

that’s about it for this chapter!

Extra (that I didn’t add above)!

Boschi tells Aruji not to tell the rest of the butlers about the deal he made with Zaebos. Boschi’s fighting ability with his new prosthetic arm is back to his usual one!

Berrien questioned Belial about what his purpose was as he was kind of helping them in the case of Bellen; Belial also was not malevolent like the other demons. (he also had told them not to lump him with the rest of the demons as he wasn’t like them; he did not desire harm upon Berrien or Bellen.). in response, while he does affirm that he has another purpose, he refuses to reveal it.

Shiro tells Aruji (once again 😭) that he will only serve them if they’re worthy of it. he still speaks in that arrogant fashion of his.

there was this scene where Bellen finally meets Muu and he stares at Muu intently. Bellen remarks thoughtfully that it’s amazing cats had somehow evolved to be able to talk in the 2000+ years he’s been asleep 😭. when Aruji explains Muu is an exception, he admits that he doesn’t want to seem to surprised by everything as he would then seem to be unable to adapt to the current times and norms 😭😂

Gaap, Shiro’s demon, is a big white tiger. when summoned for the first time, he bowed to Shiro (probably out of respect). but of course, from what we’ve seen, none of the other demons ever did this. Shiro is also noted to have commanded him (authoritatively) and the demon obeyed.

Bellen’s cat ears only appear when he uses his demonic ability! (i predicted this in an ask almost a month ago, right at the time part 1 was updated lol ✨) i was spot on! he makes peace with the cat ears pretty quickly.

the prophecy said that there would be 20 butlers and 4 angels—meaning 2 new butlers and 1 intelligent angel have yet to appear.

angel would be better if he were a more comedic character (i just simply COULD NOT take his brooding seriously. it was like watching non-lego batman ((the only batman i care for is lego batman)). when we started watching his spinoff show, i was proven right

spike and angel are kinda gay 🤨🤨🤨🤨 (the powermove forehead kiss from angelus was what prompted this thought in me). they had several gay moments in ats, and in the penultimate episode spike says "me and angel were never intimate, except for that one..." wait spike and buffy would actually make for an interesting romance (i had this realization towards the end of the episode where they were "engaged". first i was like haha that was funny, then i thought wait it would be funnier if it happened for real, then i realized it would actually have DELICIOUS implications for both of their characters). so then when spike had his dream i basically flung my arms in the air like my favorite sports team just won a goal

cordelia is my FAVORITE CHARACTER in the WHOLE ENTIRE THING (not exactly prophetic in nature, but i thought this up until she left btvs). • out of all of them, I think Zhongli would take it the hardest

• Zhongli is from a different time, and can’t help but ask himself: has the meaning of the promise of marriage changed that much throughout the past centuries??

• especially for him, it is definitely not a thing to throw away like this, so even if you apologize later, it will take a lot for him to trust you again

• he understands that you are mad if he has actually fucked up, but in his eyes, even that doesn’t justify for you to react like this

• he never would’ve proposed to you in the first place if he hadn’t fully counted on the two of you staying together till death do you part, so for you to react like this, even in the heat of the moment, will make him doubt the fundamentals of your relationship

• Diluc is not the type to argue loudly in general, but the moment you take off that ring he goes completely silent

• he just looks at you with a blank expression and slowly nods "I see how it is" before turning around and walking out on you

• he has nothing more to say than that, so don’t expect for him to try and convince you otherwise, not even later when both of you have had time to calm down

• will probably piss you off even more by just sitting there with his arms crossed and a mocking expression plastered on his face, curious to see what you’ll do next

• after a while he might cock a brow at you and sneer "Are you done?"

• he’s the type to come up to you after an argument, no matter how serious, only to hug you from behind, pepper your face in kisses and not let you go until he’s at least made you smile once

• Cyno is not the type to yell, but he will definitely not shy away from an argument and will discuss every detail

• he’s trying his best to stay level-headed despite the hurt and disappointment, if only for the sake of understanding your actions and being able to judge the situation better, but you can tell that you’ve fucked up

• you will be granted the chance to explain yourself, but you’ll have to be very careful what you say and do next, for it will undoubtedly determine whether your relationship is worth working on or being terminated here
