prompt: tomoya has had enough of readerâs unclear gestures towards him! he decides to give reader a taste of their own, sweet medicine! warnings: none, i donât think? genre: fluff !! word count: ~1.5k notes: sfw, cute n sweet story :D, reader is implied to be shorter than tomoya because IâM shorter than tomoyaâźď¸ this is also very inspired by his halloween (treat) line! :D, uhh gn!reader whoâs also implied to be a theatre kid bc I thought itâd be funny, reader is mentioned to be UNDEADâs producer (but you can ignore that it adds nothing to the plot), ooc!tomoya? idkâŚlmk if I missed anything!
YOU HAD A RATHER INTERESTING RELATIONSHIP WITH TOMOYA
You became friends with the idol when you started producing another idol group under the same agency as Ra*bits, UNDEAD. You had run into him on your day off, and what do you know! It was Tomoyaâs day off as well. The two of you hung out after learning you both enjoy theatre arts, amongst other things as well. From then? The rest is history.
Now, when you had initially met Tomoya, he was quick to pick up on your rather doting and almost teasing nature. Whenever heâd see you hang out with your non-idol friends, heâd see you hold their hands or pretend to kiss them. He found it a bit strange at first, but he was just as quick to accept it as part of your personality. If he were to be honest with himself, heâd have to admit itâs one of the reasons he developed a small crush on you.Â
Tomoya wasnât blind to the fact he had recently developed a crush on you, either. Although not having many romantic encounters, if at all, heâs not dense. However, upon realization, he was more than willing to push his feelings down, feeling so sure that you would never like him back.Â
His line of thinking couldnât have been more wrong! You had developed a small crush on your friend after seeing him being surrounded by small animals one day in the Sky Garden. What a domestic scene it was! Of course, there are countless other reasons why you fell for the music and manga lover, but seeing such a sight felt like being hit with a cupid's arrow. However, you decided to take a different approach compared to Tomoya.
âTomoya!â You happily called out to the unsuspecting boy, dragging out the second âoâ in his name.Â
Your approach? Using your flirting skills you had jokingly used on your friends, and applying it to Tomoya! What could go wrong?Â
You could hear a faint hum coming from Tomoya as he turned around to face you. His lips then formed into a smile upon seeing you. He could almost feel his heart beat slightly increasing at the sight of you approaching him, but he could blame it on him just finishing dance practice if need be.
A similar smile was reciprocated on your face as you jogged up next to him. In your hand was a water bottle, and you handed it to the brown-eyed boy.Â
âHere! I remember you had messaged me that you had a last-minute dance practice today, so I brought you water.â You said, feeling rather proud of yourself that you were able to do a simple gesture for him.Â
Tomoyaâs eyes slightly widened in surprise as you placed the water bottle in his hand. Oh gosh, he didnât have the heart to tell you that he had his own water bottle tucked away in the drawstring bag he was carrying, so he just accepted your little act of kindness.Â
âAh, thank you!â He responded. He figured itâd be rude to not take a sip out of the bottle, so he did. He made a small show of him drinking it, trying to physically show you he appreciated you thinking of him despite how busy you are. To be completely honest? It was a bit of a hard watch, but hey! He tried his best!Â
You let out a small chuckle as you watched him. Tomoya can beâŚunintentionally funny at times.Â
âItâs not a problem, Tomoya!â You responded with a small giggle seeping through your words. Were you trying to kill him?! Ah, you really are too cute for your own good, and it was starting to become an issue for himâŚ
The next thing Tomoya knew, he felt a pair of hands gently squishing his cheeks. Those hands belonging to you. Tomoya let out a little huff as he saw the cheeky expression on your face, it was obvious you wanted to mess with him. That cheshire-like smile then replacing your initial warm one in just mere seconds.
It made no sense to the idol. You had started to treat him differently about two weeks ago. At least, thatâs what he observed. You started placing his hand in yours as the two of you walked around Ensemble Square and started to dote on him. It was similar to how you acted towards your friends.Â
No, it was exactly how you acted towards your friends.Â
Ah, it seemed as if you teasing and innocently flirting with him had the exact opposite reaction you had intended! It just confused the poor boy. He had to question if you caught onto his feelings? Was that your way of putting him in the friend-zone? Whatever the reason, he hated it.
Okay, âhateâ is a strong word. Had it been under any other circumstance, he wouldâve taken these romantic gestures for what they are: romantic gestures. However, he always saw you flirting with your friends just like how you started to flirt with him! Surely, this wasnât a good thing.Â
Unbeknownst to him, Tomoya was lost in thought the second your hands playfully squished his cheeks. There was almost a pouty expression on his face as his eyes were glued to the floor.
You, being none-the-wiser to the mental battle going through his mind, just naively assumed he was feeling embarrassed by the small action. In response, you had let out an airy laugh. Your smug expression only grew. You were convinced that your plan was working!
âAww, are you embarrassed?â You questioned, in a slightly baby-ish tone. Your hands never ceased their movements, except to caress Tomoyaâs face with your thumbs. It was rather fun doting on him like this, almost like a mother hen! Besides, you'd be a liar if you said you suddenly becoming physically affectionate with him didnât have anything to do with your own personal enjoyment.Â
Tomoya only let out a soft groan, his eyebrows slightly furrowed when he finally comprehended your taunting words. He was going crazy! He wasnât sure how much of your teasing and taunting he could take, and he knew he had to do something if he wanted you to stop treating him like he was someone who needed to be doted on. Itâs bad enough he was stuck thinking you were treating him like you treat all your other friends, but he was also through with you fussing over him! Heâs the leader of an idol group, for crying out loud!Â
The two of you were silent, it was a bit nerve wracking on your end, but it wasnât anything too bad. You mentally shrugged off your friend's odd demeanor change, thinking he was just feeling tired after his practice.
You then felt his warm hands gently grab yours, moving your hands away from his face. He placed your left hand at your side and cautiously let go of it, but he didn't let go of your right hand. Instead, he brought your right hand up closer to him. Your eyebrows slightly lifted up in surprise. Tomoya still didnât say anything to you. How you wished you couldâve gone through his mind at that very momentâŚ
As Tomoya looked down at you, he made a small humming sound, seemingly pleased at your expression clearly indicating you being caught off guard by his actions. Just what he was aiming for. You couldnât help but feel your face get a bit warmer when you saw the way he looked at you. So much love and adoration was trapped in his eyes, butit almost looked as if there was a hint of mischief in them?
âHere, give me your hand.â He murmured, his voice barely understandable. It was lucky for the both of you that it was you two in the hall.
You mentally scoffed at the irony in his command. He was already holding your hand with his, so itâs not like you had much of a choice. Eh, you didnât mind.Â
You then saw Tomoyaâs expression brighten, a warm smile tugging at his lips. He let out a small laugh before he spoke to you again.
âSee? My hands are bigger than yoursâŞâ he said softly, his eyes flickering between the two of your hands and your face. Your beautiful face that seemed so at a loss for words. He was sure that if he lightly pressed his hand against your cheek, warmth would be radiated off of it. The idea made him lightly chuckle to himself.
Itâs only then when he spoke that your little trance was broken. Your focus shifted from his face to your hands. He was right, your hand was a bit smaller than his. But that was the last thing on your mind. You were much more enamored by the fact that it felt like your hands were meant to hold his. You gently squeezed his hand for a second, and Tomoya followed suit.Â
Holy crapâŚ
When did Tomoya get so bold?!
AHHHH iâve never written an x reader fic before, so i hope it was good!! đuhhh i donât really plan on becoming an x reader account, but uhâŚif thereâs a prompt you want me to write for tomoya iâll do it. trying to talk to my past self is literally that walter white shouting at hank meme like there's so much I'm trying to tell her but she can't hear me and never will
but trying to talk to my future self is like. I can somewhat communicate with her but mostly bc I know I exist solely for her entertainment. and it's weird because she can communicate with me but when I get to wherever she is in time I know I won't be able to respond to myself in this current time. but I can point and laugh at my current self which will still be fun
#my future self is watching me like ''HAH jobless. every employer in the world hates her. look at her listening to john leyton to cope''#just as i am looking at my 21yo self like ''she's crying bc she isn't attracted to the onceler anymore?? unreal''#and my 21yo self was viewing my 18yo self like ''how do you fail 4 whole driving tests''#and so on#and they were all trying to talk to their future selves bc they were all obsessed with time too. and maybe my future selves could respond?#maybe when i was 21 at uni playing bass with a band covering substitute by the who like idk maybe my 14yo self did know#bc she'd find that cool#but anyway#hi future me btw#hiiii idk 26yo me are you still on tumblr and if you're seeing this you can tell me what you're doing bc i'm listening rn i can hear you#if you talk right now#*schedules this for my 26th birthday i guess so i remember*#ramble

Changed Future (3) : Yandere Isekai
Part 2
The parents of the protagonist were shunned by their child because of their violence and nonchalance about the practices of the higher echelon of society
Apparently, their love story wasnât that different than the one that started with Haruko
Except that a small punishment went much further than not eating a day or two
They were much bloodierÂ
Much more similar to the rivals who suffered before their untimely deaths
The parents were now seemingly more in love than anything
But the cracks were there
And the protagonist was front and center for all of it
But ultimately they ran away, declining their inheritance and their parentâs wealth to succeed
Unfortunately, though it seems theyâve come to reenter theirânow your lifeÂ
As though Haruko, Det.Cape, and CEO Revmere werenât enough
âDearest baby-child of mine~ who is this?â
âIâm Harukoââ âShhh no stop it!â â-their lover.â
âFinally we get to meet you, they were always so elusive when they swooped in and swept you away.â
âCrazy thing about that little darling (Y/n) we too have let our new addition have some new freedoms as well. Say hi Beattle!â
âUh hello n-nice to finally meet you.â
If thereâs anything that you match with the original protagonist itâs their disgust and annoyance with their family
Their parents love story was a lot more violent when it came to âbreakingâ the other inÂ
You couldnât recall which one did what but even with meeting them now
You can tell theyâre justâŚ.off
âHoney, you have something on your face! Let me lick it off!â
âOh really then you should have something so that I lick it off too!â
âYou vixen, you remind me of that one time when your covered in blood and you licked me then too.â
âAwww remember when I shot you and I licked the bullet hole.â
âOh my gosh! Stop it!â
âYes, please tone it down.â
If the newly arrived parents isnât worse enough there's the new additions
âI have a lot to learn before I can truly be a part of your family but I hope we get along.â
âRightâŚ.did they kidnap you?â
âWow! Really straightforward! They did say you were incredibly bright!â
âSo they didâŚif you want I can call the police.â
âNo! No! Iâm here willinglyâŚnow.â
âRight.â
âAnd I hope youâll accept your new brothers!âÂ
âWhat?!â
Could this insane author squeeze any more yanderified tropes in this story!?!!?
âPoor (Y/n) you look exhausted. Did Haruko give you a hard time leaving?â
âNot this timeâŚitâs myâŚfamily.â
âOh my.â
âTheyâve brought their insane relationship at the worst time. Iâm trying to fix myself and be better and then they justââ
âShhh, you're safe here (Y/n)...I know you said as your ex-employer we really shouldnât have any other relationship but I think weâre bound to be much closer.â
âWhat?â
âThe point is you can stay here to avoid your family for as long as you like.â
âThanks? Revmere.â
âPlease call me, Filip.â
âOkayâŚFilip.â
The mess of it all leaves you exhaustedÂ
And easy to manipulate
Usually with isekais the whole power of it is that you can see outside the story
Minimize characters' feelings and break it down as nothing but plot
But you're stressedÂ
Every which way youâll find that a yandere is there trying to capitalize
And eventually, itâs just a matter of who can tone it down first
Naturally, thatâs Revmere er FilipÂ
Who has the space and security to invite you someplace without the others following
And between his time as a negotiator and as someone who worked closely with the protagonist heâs perfect at talking everyone down
You just need someone to rant to and heâs perfect for it
Bashing down everyone who you call out even if he agrees
âCan you believe it?! When I finally get my parents to settle like a bunch of babies, Haruko demands we do something intimate!â
âUnbelievable, heâs such a pervert.â
âRight?! What weirdo sees that oddball freaking couple and thinks âmaybe this is the night you let me take it farther than kissing!â Ugh!!!â
âLike can he keep his hands to himself.â
If he were in his positionâroommate? Ex-boyfriend? Tenant? (You literally wonât tell him)--heâd want to get to go far past that
But thatâs just him
For now, heâll settle to wine and dine you while you become a frequent visitor at his
Itâs so easy for Filip to offer your fifth glass of decade-aged wine and catch your falling body against his
Heâs just fighting with himself about putting you in the satin pajamas he has your initials on (of course changed to include his own)
But he reminds himself to take it slow, after all, he does have the best chance at getting your heart
âYou know Iâd love to offer some insight on (Y/n)âs situation, maybe with my guidance you can help reunite the family.â
âI-Iâd love to hear it! This Haruko is okay but I think myâŚpartners are worried about if he can properly take care of them. Like they took care of me.â
âWell, I hope we can both provide some⌠much-needed insight.â

I know it's been talked about to death already, but I want to talk about this response from John Epler in yesterday's AMA.
Why? Because this reminds me of the Inquisitor.
All through Inquisition, Solas creates this fantastic mirror for the Inquisitor, but one of my favourite parts of his storyline is that he also creates a parallel for us, the player. BioWare does something incredibly interesting with Solas as a mirror into our own psychology as players, and this is best exemplified in the quest 'In Hushed Whispers.'
IHW has us jump one year forward in time for a glimpse into a dark future. We, as players, have seen this in other media before. We, as players, know that we are 99% likely going to find a way out of the leap forward in time. The Inquisitor does not have these experiences. We, therefore, as players, treat this alternate future with an emotional distance: it's not real, according to us, when it is very real for the Inquisitor (even with Dorian's assurances).
This is a fantastic lens into Solas' psyche. The Inquisitor cannot imagine being ten thousand years old better than you or I can, nor can you or I imagine seeing our fellow humans as not real. But by letting us, the player, understand that an alternate future is fake and it'll all be over soon, we get a glimpse into Solas' worldview. The parellel, therefore, hits home even stronger: Solas does not feel, in that moment, like the Inquisitor does. He feels how we feel.
Why do I bring this up? Because this response explaining Solas' motives reminds me of how we, the players, view the disbanding of the Inquisition.
I have seen people incensed about how apparently the above post means Solas "doesn't care" about the elven people. That was never true. Solas does care about the elven people, at large. In The Missing comic and in DA:tV, he's seen freeing slaves and then deliberately not recruiting them. That never stopped being a thing.
But he, like us, does not take his individual agents' motives and situations into account when making large-scale choices.
At the end of Trespasser, when all of us were asked to choose between disbanding the Inquisition or handing its power to the Chantry, I would wager that no one spent hours and hours hung up on the future of Skyhold's cooks. But why? Those people gain their employment through the Inquisition. What about their families? What about what their goals are?
As players? We don't care. Those people, to us, aren't real. They're not fleshed-out characters in the same way as our companions. While we care about the large-scale welfare of Thedas, and I'm sure all of us have our favourite factions, we just don't care about every single one of the thousands of people in those factions. We don't even see most of them.
Just like Solas.
Solas appreciates good deeds. Solas even spends time helping the people he sees face-to-face. Solas has strong feelings about the freedom of the elven/elvhen people. But does he decide his course of action based on the wants of his every agent? No. Neither do we, as players, and that is who Solas mirrors most strongly in this particular respect.
So just like us, Solas considers the bigger picture. Let his agents go home. They've done all they need to do. Let them go be with their families, just like he tells the Inquisitor at the end of Trespasser, even if those agents are really SUPER loyal and really REALLY want to stay (just like some Inquisitors at the end of Trespasser).
He disbands his organization, just like we, the player, disband our organization (some of us, anyway). He "lays down his sword," just like Mother Giselle talks about, just like she insists we do for the Inquisitor.
So in my opinion, John Epler was not wrong to say this. This, to me, is all true of Solas. Every word. Just like the Inquisitor was (in most cases) a capable leader who was able to raise a strong faction in dire circumstances, so is Solas. But just like how many Inquisitors, despite being good and noble and righteous leaders, chose to disband the Inquisition the moment its forces were no longer needed (and in fact posed a risk)... so does Solas.
Solas is an amazing, complex character. I don't think that is any less true now than it was a week ago, a year ago, or ten years ago.
He is a gift to us, as players - one that I am still thankful to all of BioWare's writers for helping bring to life, as well as the entire world of Thedas.

r.e. with johnny banging one of his maids
what's the breaking point or final straw that makes the maid finally snap and make the decision to leave soap? or, maybe even the point just before the decision is made?
-- đ
Omg my first anon who signs their name! Welcome! Enjoy this angsty piece! Following the revelation that she is not the only one Johnny sees in the duchy, she does her best to limit her time with him. The thought of him touching her makes her skin crawl, makes her stomach curdle over the memory of him holding the other maid so tightly to him (the way he held her, how many more are there-). However, she also knows she cannot avoid him entirely, cannot retreat fully as he is still her employer, a fact seared into the forefront of her mind now when it should have been when this all started. She tries not to show her discomfort when he leans into her space, as she can now smell the perfumes of other women on his skin, can see his plump mouth most likely having kissed another before coming to her. She wonders if he even bothered to wash himself between, or if the hands he touches her with are still coated in the consequences of his actions. There's no comfort in his concern over her, him spending more and more time as the days go by to coax her into telling him what's the matter, is someone bothering her? He'll make it all go away for his sweet little maid, his favorite. He winks as he says their inside joke; bile creeps up her throat at the knowledge the joke is on her and always has been. She just manages to kiss him, brushing off anything further with a variety of excuses: She isn't feeling well, there is so much she has to do, a guest is due shortly. She even uses the tried and true 'I am unclean' excuse, face flushed as she looks down, desperate for him to believe it even though the stress of the situation she has found herself in has put it off for the forseeable future. Every time she feels her heart lurch over the sight of him, her stomach lurches as well. It's a struggle for her to keep food down, constantly envisioning the man she loves with other women. The knowledge he would have to wed someone of his station had always loomed over her, the thought of him forsaking his reputation due to being in love with her a fantasy she only indulges in when she lays down for bed. These days the thought brings more cruelty than comfort, and it's resulted in her stumbling from bed to heave up the meager portion of dinner that she manages to eat. The other staff notice how there seems to be an air of illness about her, her face paler than before, eyes red-rimmed at times, the dazed look she gets when she thinks no one is watching. The cooks especially take note of it, see how she struggles to keep food down, how she picks at her plate unless it's the blandest of soup or a portion of fruit. The head cook, a stern woman who runs the kitchen efficiently and while putting the fear of God into those who test her, has rubbed her back alongside the head maid more times than not when she hangs her head in the toilet. "I swear lass, you heave more than an expecting mother. Duke MacTavish ought to call in the doctor and have you seen to already, before you waste away!" If her eyes weren't blinded by tears, they would be wide open in horror. The vomiting, the missed days, the sleeping... All caused by stress yes but... Is there anything more stressful than carrying a new life inside of you? Particularly one born of such circumstances? Her breathing picks up, the last of the bile coughed out while her mind races, the thought growing more and more sure as she thinks back to the days when she and Johnny had gone further than they ever should have. The best case scenario is people assuming she is a loose woman; a random unnamed man being the father and her child being a bastard. The possibility to spin it as her being taken advantage of by a man who was passing through town is there, not likely to work but still an option. The worst case though? The scandal of bearing a Duke's bastard, of having lain in her employer's bed? All of them would be ruined.
The head maid sends her to bed to ensure she doesn't get anyone else sick with whatever she has. She lays in her bed, hand shakily pressed over her stomach, watery eyes fixed on the ceiling while she bites her lip to keep from sobbing. She has to get out, even if there is no child inside her. Things have crossed a line and she's clawing at it to let her back on the other side. This was doomed from the start, and this needs to end before this becomes a choice she can't take back. There has been recent gossip of the Baron of the woods returning, of him needing new staff due to several of his retiring from age. No connections to Duke MacTavish, a place out of the eyes of society, a man who does not partake in the prodding of other's status. It appears she will need to find a way to visit the Baron's home discretely. Soon.

The Time Between Us
-Historical Yandere x Reader-
Yandere x Accidental Time Traveler Reader
This was so fun to write, and I have more for this particular story so I will probably post more soon.
Reader is AFAB with she/her pronouns
Warnings: Yandere/possessive behavior, outdated ideas about gender, mentions of mental health, outdated ideas about mental health,
-
You are a college student writing a history paper about big cities in Americaâs Gilded Age when the dusty old PC belonging to the school sends you back to 1881.
You find yourself in the same building and room, but 143 years into the past. A man walks in and is utterly shocked to see you sprawled out on the ground in your confused state.
His name is James Harrington, and he is an architect who visits the school archives room to do his work. He is of average height with dark brown hair with a matching mustache and brown eyes that seem to linger on your bare legs for extended periods of time.
He informs you that ladies usually wear a skirt, and you start to think this man has never seen a bare set of womenâs legs.
Your comfortable shorts and T-shirt arenât exactly considered âlady-likeâ in this day and age.
It takes a lot of convincing to convince James youâre telling the truth, and he finally believes you when you show him your smartphone.
He is absolutely buzzing with questions, and you attempt to answer as many as you can before you figure itâs time to try and find a way back to your time.
Holding the paper in front of your face, you retrace your steps back to where you were sitting when you were transported here and closed your eyes.
Back in front of the school PC, you breathed a sigh of relief. Todayâs events called for a night in, so you headed back to your dorm room.
Against the more logical part of your brain telling you to stay away from the computer lab, you make the decision to return.
You still have work to do, after all!
Over the course of the week, you go back to 1881, and James is always in the room, anticipating your arrival. You both decide it would be safe for you to stay in the room and only talk to James until he can get you some proper attire.
When he does, you sneak into a restroom when James assures you no one else is around, and you change into an outfit consisting of a high-necked blouse and skirt.
James feels proud, and he tries unsuccessfully to hide the light dusting of red on his cheeks. He informs you that you look like a âproper lady.â A part of him misses the strange, unfamiliar clothing and hairstyle you don, however, and he tends to mistake your modern ways for eccentricity.
James will absolutely romanticize the differences between the two of you, viewing your confusion as innocence, and his image of you makes his stomach twist in a way he's never felt before.
Then, he lets you know that his employer is hosting a dinner for his employees. He invites you as his date, and you eagerly accept, not willing to turn down the opportunity to see a lavishly decorated house belonging a Gilded Age businessman.
On the carriage ride there, he instructed you over exactly what to say and how to behave. Having seen your fair share of historical dramas, you were only half-listening, your eyes taking in every detail of the carriage.
The dinner goes well, and you even impress your hosts with your knowledge and mannerisms.
James' boss, Mr. Whitney, pulls him aside after dinner while everyone in the parlor room is deep in their own conversations.
âSheâs a unique woman, indeed, Mr. Harrington. Youâd be wise to keep a girl like that in your future prospects.â
Those words seemed to change something in James. Suddenly, he looked at you in a completely different way. Initially, he was planning on trying to persuade you to stay with him in 1881. He now knew that a real man, a successful businessman like Mr. Whitney, would take away your ability to choose. James would have to keep you here.
When you finish your drink, he asks you to join him in the ballroom where the other guests are dancing, and you do so, jumping a bit when he wraps a hand around your waist without hesitation.
He whispers lowly into your ear about how glad he is that you were âsent to himâ as the two of you dance.
You grimace to yourself at his words and decide then and there that it may be a good idea to stay in 2024.
When you return for the final time, you plan on taking a walk through the city with your period-appropriate clothes to take everything in one last time.
You go back to 1881 and enjoy the sights while your final moments in the past last. You return to the archives room to be met with a sight that makes your stomach drop down to your feet.
James is holding the building plan, observing it with cold, observant eyes. Youâre not sure what to do here. Heâs holding your only way back home in his hands, eyeing it in a very strange wayâŚ
âHello, James,â you say carefully. âHave you had a chance to enjoy the sunshine today?â
He turns to you briefly to signal that heâs listening. âYou do understand why I have to do this, donât you?â
You freeze, feeling faint. âDo what?â you say, trying to not let your desperation show. âJames, what are you doing?â
Without another word, he rips the paper in two, then into four, then six, eight, countless pieces.
It takes everything you have not to fall onto your knees. You were trapped. You were trapped in 1881.
He looks at you, but before a taunt can escape his lips, you lunge at him, a scream ripping from your throat. Hands suddenly apprehend your attack, and your held firmly in place by two policemen who seemed to come out of nowhere.
âIt really is so unfortunate,â James says, sounding almost bored. âSheâs gone completely mad. Iâm not sure what warranted this sudden change in behavior. Iâm glad I was able to contact the authorities before she hurt herself.â
âThese cases of women gone into hysterics are common. Sheâll receive the proper care at Somervault Mental Asylum,â one of the men says, grunting as you thrash and shriek.
âIâll visit you soon, dearest. For now, just make sure to get better,â James says, grinning wolfishly at you once the social workers werenât looking.
Youâre hauled off to the asylum, and for just a second, you believe you really would fall into insanity.

The third wife of rhaenyra targaryen.|| rhaenyra targaryen x black!fem reader
In the five years since Queen Rhaenyra The Conqueror, Bringer of New Valyria, triumphed over the usurper without losing a single dragon, the realm is at peace. Having no need of husbands and taking two other wives, Queen Alicent and Queen Mysaria, the dragon queen is in need of a third and final wife to rule the seven kingdoms at her side.
You were just a girl from nowhere, watching the sky fill with dragons at peace, destined to be a scullery maid in a vicious household and the future wife of a ratcatcher until fate and blood decide your future for you.Â
History will remember Rhaenyra Targaryen as the great unifier, the second coming of Visenya Targaryen who brought another golden age of dragons out of war. But they will sing songs of you, the smallfolk who ascended to fire and blood as the queenâs favorite, the one they tried to kill so many times, the third wife of rhaenyra targaryen.
Some notes: Aegon, Aemond, and Daemon are dead but their dragons were saved, Alicent and Haelena were sent to Oldtown, and Otto Hightower and Criston Cole spontaneously combusted, I donât know what to tell yall. Luke lived, Jaehaerys lived, Baela and Rhaena are happy goddammit.Â
Some other notes: This is dark, Rhaenyra is in her Paul Atreides era, and I drew some inspiration from Cinderella and Hurrem Sultan (the fictional representation of her from the show's magnificent century but nobody I know watches that show). Rhaenyra is in her thirties and reader is in her twenties.Â
Trigger warnings for violence, murder, abuse. MINORS DNI
This is a rough teaser chapter to see if thereâs any interest in this fic so if you like it please reblog it or leave a comment! Feedback is how I write :)
Chapter One: the fate of a flea.Â
âI heard she fed her husband to Syrax!â
âI heard she burned the last two wives!â
âShe's going to choose me, thereâs no doubting that.â
â Yeah, to be her cupbearer!â
You tried to block out the chatter of your employer and her daughters and concentrate on mending one of their hems, but each bump from your place on the floor of the rickety carriage, made it near impossible. Â
âHurry up Flea, weâre almost there!â One of the daughters said, her slipper meeting your ribs to make you go faster but you dared not complain.Â
You would have been there an hour ago but the decision to take the carriage was not your own. You would have much preferred to watch the dragons arrive with your mother in the market, far from the crowds that propelled them towards The Red Keep.Â
You needed the coin and being some rich ladyâs maid who couldnât afford the proper ones with training but could afford you instead kept good bread on the table.Â
Or at least it did.
The Lady hadnât paid you in two weeks.
âRemember to smile when youâre presented before the Queen, smile and be silent. Perhaps if you do well, sheâll want two wives instead of one and weâll never have to rewear a gown again. New gowns and maids who actually know what theyâre doing.â The Lady said and you didnât have to lift your gaze to know she was staring at you.
âDonât worry Flea, youâll have a place in the dragon queenâs court. Weâll put in a good word with the ratcatcher!â
All three of them exploded with laughter at that and when the carriage came to a sudden stop you were too happy to watch them slide all over the carriage.
âIâm sorry mistress, this is as far as I can go.â The driver said.
The daughters adjusted themselves before leaving the carriage, ignoring their motherâs calls to wait for her,
It was now or never.
âMy lady, I need to speak with you.â
âYouâll stay in the carriage, the queen need not see you.â The Lady said, starting to move towards the door.
âMy lady, you have not paid me. I have waited and waited and happily assisted with all the preparations but I cannot go home without coin today. Please, my mother needs me, Iâll take half if you have that right now but we have no more bread.â You said quietly but firmly.
âYou havenât earned your pay for the full day yet so weâll discuss this no further.â
    âMy lady, my mother is-
âYour mother will have to make do as the rest of the smallfolk do. Perhaps she can have that bowl of brown I always hear about. Iâm sure sheâll-
Youâre not quite sure what happened next but it ended with The Lady dead on the carriage floor, her neck at an odd angle, face bloody and concaved.
You sank to the floor beside your dead employer, your fearful cries went unheard as the sound of Syraxâs roar filled the air around Kingâs Landing.
Queen Rhaenyra had arrived.
Her daughters would see you dead for this, your mother would starve, your life was lost.
Unless it wasnât.
As luck or the gods would have it, The Lady bled into her own hair and not a single drop had spilled on the crimson colored gown.Â
It seems you have time to finish the hems after all.
âYou stand before Queen Rhaenyra of House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, Princess of Dragonstone, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lady of The Seven Kingdoms, Protector of the Realm, Bringer of New Valyria. Why should you sit by her side?â
The same question had been asked of every lady in front of you who entered the throne room and each dismissed moments later either by Princess Rhaenys, the Hand of The Queen or Queen Rhaenyra herself. You could not bring yourself to look at the queen each time the doors opened and closed, a single glance in her direction would bring you to further ruin.
Both The Ladyâs daughters could not see you but you could see them each leave the throne room in tears.Â
A chance to be queen would not be the only thing they would mourn today.Â
The doors opened and you found yourself escorted into the throne room.Â
âYou stand before Queen Rhaenyra of House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, Princess of Dragonstone, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lady of The Seven Kingdoms, Protector of the Realm, Bringer of New Valyria. Why should you sit by her side?â
You looked at the dragon queen in all her beauty and might upon the Iron Throne and instantly it all became clear.
You would not leave this room in tears.Â
  âI wish to be anointed.â
the story continues here.

Seven years agoÂ
âWhat do you mean youâre leaving?âÂ
It all just felt so sudden, and you werenât sure if you were hallucinating as you heard those words that came out from the mouth of your best friend for the past seventeen years. You both have made a promise to one another since you both were in kindergarten that no matter how big or small the situation may be, you both will always have each otherâs backs and that no secrets were to be kept from one another, even if they may feel like you have been punched right into the face during the aftermath of it all.Â
Or that was what you thought.Â
âY/NâŚI had no control over anythingâŚyou do know how my father often has to travel across the globe for his jobââ
âBut that doesnât change the fact that you decided to keep it a secret from me when you first discovered that you were potentially going to follow your fatherâs footsteps for his company.âÂ
From the beginning, you knew that Juyeonâs father worked at a relatively elite corporate company. Because of his status, he was often sent away to various countries to fulfill his job. It has been decades since his father has been in and out of Seoul, and he would often travel on his own not wanting to bother his family and wanting them to have a peaceful life here.Â
Never in a million years would you have thought that he would bring his entire family along with him as he starts a new chapter in his life in the States, and also get Juyeon to follow in his fatherâs footsteps.Â
You were on the verge of crying, your cheeks were heating up, and you had unintentionally balled up your fists, clearly failing terribly to suppress the anger and betrayal you felt.Â
âI just donât get it, Juyeon. You have always wanted to pursue basketball. Hell, you have even sought a sports scholarship to get into one of the prestigious universities in Seoul! Why are you giving up now?â You huffed.Â
You could tell that he was showing some reluctance in his answer, and truthfully, he didnât really know how to give you an answer, either. But he decided to reply in the most plausible and fitting one that was right for the current situation you both were in.Â
âFamily has to always come first, Y/N. If it were for my family's future, especially my stay-at-home mother and younger brother, I would do anything to ensure my father and I can provide for them.âÂ
You scoffed. âBullshit.âÂ
You took a few steps forward until you were merely inches apart. Looking straight into Juyeonâs eyes, you could tell he felt the same way and was also trying to hold back his tears.Â
âYouâre not the Juyeon I know. My Juyeon, who has been right by my side ever since we were kids, would always go above and beyond to work for what he truly wants. He is never afraid to voice his opinion, and he would do anything to ensure his happiness would be fulfilled no matter the consequences.âÂ
Finally, the tears that you have held back for so long began dripping down your face as you began to hit him simultaneously on his chest. Â
âWhat exactly happened to you, Juyeon?â
At the same time, tears clouded his vision as a single teardrop dripped onto his face. You could tell that something was holding him back from telling you the truth, if any, and his following answer would break you down even more.
âIâm sorry, Y/N.â
With that, a black car pulls up at the school entrance, revealing his younger brother rolling down the window to call out for his big brother. You could see multiple pieces of luggage lined up at the back trunk of the car, and they were ready to head straight to the airport.Â
With a glance back to signal to his family that he would be coming shortly, he turned to you to apologise once more before gently pushing you away to leave.
âIâm really sorry, Y/N. I wish you all the best in your future as you enter university and eventually the workforce.âÂ
Just like that, Juyeon quickly sped down the stairs and opened the door to the car before settling in. Within seconds, his parents, sitting in the front seats, gave you a little wave before they drove away right through the exit.Â
Almost instantly, all of the built-up tension was suddenly released from you all at once, and you finally broke down crying at the entrance of your high school. What you thought would be a memorable, happy graduation for you both as you parted ways with your youth years turned out to be one sad separation from your best friend.Â
You both planned your summer holidays with one another before officially enrolling in university in the autumn. You were going to head to Busan for a five-day trip during the first month, going to visit your aunt who lived on the outskirts of Seoul to help her in her fieldwork (especially when she has a soft spot for Juyeon), and even going to visit all of the bazaars that were going to be held in central Seoul.Â
There were so many potential activities and times you could have had with one another, and you were even planning to propose to Juyeon that you wanted to be more than just childhood friends.Â
Because you have been having an insane crush on him since you were kids, and you realised it was love by the time you both entered high school.
Unfortunately, it was too late to confess your love to him, as he was now long gone, heading straight to the airport before he eventually said his final goodbye to his home for the past seventeen years, Seoul.Â
Maybe it was fate that you both were just not meant to be with one another; perhaps it was why his father had no choice but to bring his whole family with him to start a new life in the States.Â
For the first time, you cursed and blamed yourself for having such hope and planning a potential future with someone who was clearly out of your league, and you thought it had all been a waste of time since the beginning.Â
With that, the little needle-felted cat you have been hiding and made last night was released from your grips as he fell towards the stairs and eventually towards the ground. As you noticed, more tears kept welling up in your eyes, and you brought both hands to cover your face, not wanting to care about anything right now.Â
I shouldnât have had so much hope. I was stupid enough actually to fall in love with you, Juyeon.
Present DayÂ
âOh, Y/N! Looks like your article just got published in the London Mail this morning!âÂ
Your co-worker gave you a little pat on the back before he placed the newspapers right onto your desk, and it was clear how your article was published right on the front page with your name written very obviously at the right corner.Â
âPlease, it was nothing. Itâs what I do all the time,â you replied bluntly.Â
âWhat do you mean it was nothing? You just interviewed the rising actor of the month! Thatâs big news, and you deserve to celebrate it!"Â
âPlease, it really is nothingââÂ
âHey everyone, our department needs a little night out after work at the local pub! Weâre toasting to Y/Nâs big break in the news today!âÂ
Your co-worker shouted out loud, and eventually, cheers erupted in the office, everyone congratulating you and thinking about the potential drinks and songs they would go for once work is over.Â
You smiled and chuckled at the sight. You have always loved your job and are grateful to have met such a fantastic group of people in this company.Â
It wasnât your dream to pursue the path of becoming a reporter in the beginning. Sure, you have always had a passion for writing, but you have always considered it your hobby. Thanks to your sister, who was studying abroad in Manchester then, who convinced you to take that leap of faith and turn that hobby into a potential job.Â
So here you were, living the best of your life. You followed your sisterâs footsteps and went on to live abroad in the UK, enrolling in the University of Manchester, where you successfully graduated with honours the past year. Thankfully, you secured a place in the London Mail right after graduation due to your outstanding grades.Â
The move from Manchester to London was a bit tough, but you initially managed to pull through with your sister and her boyfriend's help. They were kind enough to help you settle down and stayed with you for the first couple weeks before returning to Manchester. You miss your sisterâs presence, but you know that eventually, you had to venture out on your own and face reality as an adult.Â
It has been a year, and you have adapted to living alone. Often, things would get tough, but it was also thanks to you having such a fantastic team of colleagues that you were able to pull through it all, even when there were times you had to work overtime to fulfill all of the datelines that were pilling up nonstop, especially during the holiday seasons.Â
It wasnât until recently that your article was accepted and published on the main cover page of the news, and that was when you finally earned your big break after a year. The company has deemed you to be one of the most talented youngsters they have had over the past decade, and they were more than happy to have had you as their employee.Â
Since then, things have settled down for you as you got a pay rise and had fewer hours to give you more time to rest well, mainly when you only survived with four to five hours of sleep daily. Now, you can eat your breakfast correctly and get a good seven to eight hours of sleep before coming every day.Â
Just as your co-workers were having the time of their lives trying to figure out the plans for tonight after work, your office desk telephone rang, and you picked it up hastily, thinking that youâd have another big scoop to write about
But it was from the CEO.Â
âMiss Y/N, please report to my office immediately.â
You were back home after that fun night out at your local pub with your co-workers, holding a beer in hand as you FaceTime your sister over the phone.Â
âWell, itâs a good opportunity for you, donât you think, Y/N?âÂ
âIâm not too sure about all of this, sis. Like yeah, it would be great that I would be back home, but stillââ
âHey, I know mom would be ecstatic to have you back in Seoul with her. And it just so happened that you have been telling me how you recently began feeling a little homesick. Iâd say it would be great for you to take up the offer.â She reassured.Â
It was the moment your mouth fell open wide when you heard that you had been offered to be a senior reporter for one of Seoulâs top magazines at the moment, GQ Korea, where you would be interviewing potentially all of the current well-known celebrities in the country and getting a higher pay as well.Â
It seems that they have come across your contributions from the London Mail, and they were keen to have you on their team. Your first thought was grateful as your works were recognised globally, but also because you miss being home. But another part of you has already settled in the UK, so you werenât sure if leaving now would be the right choice.Â
But now that your sister has given you some input, that was when you knew that it wouldnât hurt to try it out, at the very least.Â
With one final sip of your beer, you leaned forward and gave your sister a smile for the first time since calling her this evening.Â
âIâm going home now, sis.â
It has been a week since you settled into Seoul, and you have loved being back in your comfort zone: the culture, the food, and the environment you grew up in.Â
Your mom was overjoyed as she picked you up from the airport, insisting she would take your luggage, especially when you have flown almost twenty-four hours just to get home. By the time you got home, your mom was already ready and prepared with all the dishes she had premade before your arrival and needed to heat them quickly.Â
You quickly took a shower before joining her at the dining table. You both chatted for close to midnight before she told you she would sleep ahead of you. Meanwhile, you decided to clean up your childhood bedroom to make space for everything you brought back from London.Â
There was this nostalgia as you entered your room; everything was still the same, exactly how you had left it when you left for the UK years ago. The same old blue painting on the wall, all your posters hung on them, even your favourite comic books that were still arranged nicely on your bookshelf.Â
You could tell there wasnât a speck of dust in the room, indicating that your mom must have cleaned it occasionally. You couldnât help but sigh, thinking about all the hard work she always puts herself through.Â
It took you a while to go through all your belongings, mainly because you were reminiscing as you looked at the pictures, books, and figurines scattered throughout your room.
It wasnât until you came across a box tucked away at the corners of your room that you pulled them out towards the centre as you opened them up.Â
And god, you wished you hadnât done that.Â
All the pictures and items contained memories you had with your past lover, Lee Juyeon.Â
You paused momentarily before reaching out to pick up the first item on top of the box: a picture.Â
It was taken when you both were in kindergarten. You were holding hands, wearing backpacks and little yellow helmets on your heads. You couldnât help but smile at the sight; it was nostalgic and cute.Â
Right after that, you took out a pair of bracelets right below the picture. It was a friendship bracelet that you both made during middle school. It was summer when you recently discovered the trend of making friendship bracelets, where you went straight to Juyeonâs house across the street, practically dragged him back to your house, and got him to make one with you. You giggled at the thought of how Juyeon was so lost at the time, having to come to you almost every five seconds to tell you that he had either lost a piece or was having trouble threading the beads through the string.Â
When you thought it would all be good memories, you stumbled upon the one item you wished you would not have to see again.
The needle-felted cat you made for him on the night before graduation.Â
Unbeknownst to you, your hands began to tremble as you took the cat into your hands, staring at it as the memories flashed back: how you would give this to Juyeon and tell him that you were ready to be more than just close friends, up to the point of how he suddenly announced to you that he was leaving for good.Â
Slowly, you felt that your tears were beginning to well up in your eyes, and you quickly dumped all of the items back into the box and tucked them back in the corner, using a few items you had in your room, such as cardboard to block it completely out of sight.Â
You were not ready to go through all of the roller coasters of emotion once again.Â
Especially when deep down in your heart, you still had some feelings left for him. Even if you did not wish to admit it out loud.
You stood outside the tall building as you tried your best to fix up the blazer that your mum insisted you put on for your big day. With your handbag and laptop, you gave yourself a deep breath before mentally preparing yourself that this would be your new workplace from now on.Â
You looked to see the vast sign plastered outside the building: GQ Korea. You were definitely at the right place. It took you a few seconds to finally be able to take your very first steps into the building. Once you did, you were amazed at the astonishing art that filled the reception floor. It was a fashion and art magazine; after all, there was no doubt that the company's directors entailed such a choice of decorations to captivate everyone who walked into their building.Â
You walked straight towards the counter, where you were greeted by two ladies who were already expecting your arrival. Immediately, they got you signed up in the system, and one guided you to one of the fifth floors, where you would be meeting your new team and department that you would be working with.Â
As you were guided into the head of the departmentâs office, Ms Kim, who has been guiding and overlooking this particular department for the past five years, greeted you and made you feel comfortable instantly, which made all of your tensed-up muscles relax fairly quickly. She communicated well with you and, surprisingly, even shared some of the same ideals as you did. You were beyond grateful to hear when she mentioned that she has kept up with your works from the London Mail, and it was about time that the team needed someone like you.Â
Once both of you had taken the time to break the ice, Ms Kim led you to your desk just outside her office, where countless cubicles filled the entire floor. At first glance, you have estimated that there were about fifty employees who worked in this department. It didnât take them long to greet you personally before you eventually made your way to your desk in the middle of the floor.Â
As you unloaded your bag of materials onto the desk and placed them in an organised manner, your hands digging through your bag finally stopped when you felt a familiar material. Instantly, you pulled it out to check what it was, and you were once again left speechless with what it was.Â
A picture of you and Juyeon back during your graduation from high school.
The only plausible reason it was in your workbag was because of your mother. You have never once told her that things ended badly between you both, and you have always shrugged off the fact that you were still keeping in touch with the man himself and that you both were still having a healthy friendship. You just didnât want her to worry much, especially when she knew how much you both have been through, and she practically treated Juyeon like her own son.Â
As all loving mothers would do, she woke up hours ahead of you this morning to prepare you a filling bento box. She wrapped it with traditional cloth and placed it neatly into your work bag. At the same time, she probably put the little picture frame into the bag, hoping it would motivate you during work and decorate your new workplace.Â
With just a few seconds of staring at it, you looked down to see an empty trash bin that sat right beneath your work desk, and without thinking much, you immediately placed the picture right into it.Â
Iâm sorry, mom. But I will not be needing it anymore.
Your first week of work flew by quickly as you easily got used to the working lifestyle. Seoul was your home, and it wasnât hard to adapt back to the culture. In fact, you were grateful that your new group of co-workers could be on par with the ones back in London; they were all as great and supportive in helping you ease into the new environment. Your new co-workers even encouraged you to head out for a little drink at the local izakaya restaurant after work since it has been a long weekend for everyone, and you surely did enjoy the little company you had before heading home a little after midnight.Â
In terms of fitting in as GQ Korea's new reporter, it has been a thrilling ride learning about all of the entertainment biz that has been going on in the country. Since your forte was with celebrities, your head of department had assigned you the same, focusing on the rising K-Pop stars in the industry.Â
It has been a while since you kept up with Korean celebrities since you mainly focused on Western artists abroad for a couple of years. But as you kept up with the news and made sure to read the newspaper first thing every morning you came right in, you made sure that you have been kept up to date with all of the latest announcements and events that have been going on in the industry.Â
Today was a big day for you as Ms Kim had instructed you to head up to the top floor, where you would first meet up with the CEO for the very first time since joining the company as he would like to brief you through the details in regards to the celebrities that will be coming later in the day.
You thought it was probably some hotshot celeb for the CEO to personally guide you through each step regarding what or how you should deal with them. However, you werenât too mad since you figured they probably did things differently here in Seoul.
As you finally reached the top floor, you were then escorted by whom you assumed to be the CEOâs personal assistant, who was already expecting your arrival as they kindly let your head department know that she was free to leave. The walk down the hallway towards the CEOâs office seemed a little daunting to you for some reason; perhaps it was also because you were meeting someone who is considered to be one of the famous people in the heart of Seoulâthereâs a reason why GQ Korea is always on the top-selling markets.Â
As the assistant kindly knocked on the door and got a verbal cue from the other side, she took a step behind to let you move forward as you slowly turned the doorknob to enter the room.Â
Immediately, you notice how the entire office is decorated extravagantly, filled with tons of high-end decorations that suit the taste of the CEO himself. The wide, clear windows dominated most of the room, offering a panoramic cityscape view. A curated selection of artwork filled the walls, which added a little personal touch to the working space.Â
You didnât realise that your mouth was wide open as you slowly took in the mesmerising view until you turned towards the desk, where the CEO was sitting on his chair with his back facing you, flipping through multiple documents in his hands.Â
As you slowly made your way towards him, your little footsteps made the CEOâs ears perk up, causing the man to stand up and finally turn to face you in person for the first time.Â
With that, your entire world seemed to pause for a moment.Â
What exactly was going on? There was no way this young man could be the CEO, especially when you were certain that he had left Seoul years ago and sworn that his chances of returning to his homeland would be close to zero. Your laptop in hand was slowly beginning to slip off before you were brought back to reality and quickly caught it before it eventually hit the ground.Â
That was when you finally muttered your first words since stepping into the CEOâs office.Â
âJ-JuyeonâŚ?âÂ
It was pretty evident that the man himself was just as confused and shocked as you were; he practically stood there motionless, trying his best to make sense of the current situation.
âY-Y/N? What are you doing here?âÂ
âI should be the one asking you that,â you replied.Â
You were about to go haywire just from this interaction alone. It was hard enough for you to move on from what happened seven years ago, and it proved to be a lot harder than you thought when you came back a few weeks ago to see that all of the things that youâve tried so hard to forget were now back in the comforts of your bedroom.Â
Ever since then, you had promised yourself that you wouldnât want anything to do with Juyeon anymore, and you have decided to shut your heart regarding anything related to the man himself.Â
If only it were easier said than done.Â
Juyeon finally took his first step away from his desk as he slowly approached you, extending his hand as if he was craving your touch again. You could tell that he was desperate for a little physical contact, perhaps to prove that you really stood in front of him.Â
But you couldnât, and you werenât ready for any of that, so you backed off instead, giving him a clear signal that you werenât on the same page as he was.Â
There was this evident sadness in his eyes, and he tried his best to hold back his tears as his eyes began to water.Â
âY/NâŚIââ
âMiss L/N. You can address me that, Mr. Lee,â you bluntly replied before diverting your attention to the ground.Â
It was when Juyeon finally got himself together and straightened his posture before clearing his throat. âVery well, Miss L/N. Iâll quickly brief you on the events happening today, with the group of celebrities arriving in a couple of hours soon. Please, have a seat.â
âI hate him, I really do!â You screamed at the top of your lungs as you took the pint of beer in your hands before slamming it down onto the table. Your sister had to restrain you from causing a scene at the bar, trying to settle you down and handing you a glass of water to chug down your system.Â
Your sister had just recently came back to Seoul for a little vacation, and you immediately asked that she could keep you accompany down at the local izakaya restaurant that you often visited to let off some steam.Â
âKarma is really on your side huh, Y/N,â your sister teased.Â
âI-Itâs not funny, sissyâŚ.â your voice began to slur, indicating that you were starting to get drunk at this point. âWhyâŚof all people, why?! Why did it have to be him? As my boss! In my new workplace!âÂ
âLook, it canât be that bad. Who knows, maybe you might get another chance again with him.âÂ
âThatâs not the point, sissyâŚ.after what he has done to me? After all that I have done to try my best to move on from the past? This should not be happening to me at all!â Your voice broke as you began tearing up, causing your sister to pull you close into her embrace, slowly caressing your back to help soothe you a little.Â
Your sister was well aware of your history with Juyeon, especially when youâve spent weeks, which eventually that turned into months of crying out to her over the phone since she was already studying abroad then, she knew how much the whole situation wrecked you badly, to the point that it has taken you months to start going out and meeting people outside of university eventually.Â
She was there when you were both younger, seeing how you developed a crush on him later and knowing you werenât just childhood friends and had something way more than that. It was a shame that Juyeon left without telling you, and she wouldâve gone to the airport to confront him about it if only she had been back in Seoul then. But deep down, she knew Juyeon as much as you did and knew that suddenly, something probably came up for him to leave the country like that.Â
As a matter of fact, your sister had always wished and rooted for you both to become a couple eventually; she had always been a firm believer of childhood friends to lovers anyway, especially when that was how she ended up with her current fiancĂŠ. Now that you both have reunited in the most unexpected way, she believes her theory about you both eventually having a second chance was stronger than ever before.Â
With that, she lifted her eyebrows as if she had just come up with a brilliant idea. âSay, little sis. What exactly are you up to at work tomorrow?âÂ
You sniffled. âUmmâŚI guess I have a meeting with Juyeon to discuss the upcoming fashion show that is due to be set in a couple of months. Why do you ask?âÂ
Your sister gave you a little smirk in return before cradling you like a baby again. âOh, it was nothing. Iâm sure youâll have a fruitful discussion tomorrow.â
You dreaded coming to work today. The very first reason is that you woke up with a really bad hangover from last night, and you practically donât remember much that has happened besides chugging down pints of beer from your system. It has been a while since youâve drank this much, and most importantly, because you were upset over something. Otherwise, you were pretty much sober most of the time and always being the one to drag your co-workers home because they were far worse than you were.Â
And, of course, it was also because you hated the idea that you must come face-to-face with your so-called ex-childhood best friend againâthis time, in an actual meeting. Well, in some ways, you were glad that it was only a meeting for a potentially massive event that the company had been known to host for years and that Juyeon would probably be able to distinguish between personal and work-life issues.Â
But still, you just werenât ready to face him again, especially with the huge shock youâd received the day before. It was already hard enough for you to stay focused when Juyeon briefed you through your job scope and the meeting you would have for the day, trying your best not to let the tears drip down nor let the anger boil up.Â
However, you had no choice since you must also stay professional at your work. You just got back to Korea, and there was no way you would chicken out and move everything back to the UK again. Well, potentially, you could, but it wouldnât be an ethical move to make.Â
So here you are, hugging your documents and laptop towards your chest, standing outside the meeting room. You had to take a few deep breaths before you could muster up the courage to turn the doorknob and enter the room.Â
Once you did, you noticed how the entire room was filled up, with most of your co-workers in their designated seats, sorting through the documents they would use for the meeting. You immediately diverted your attention towards the front where Juyeon was seated, and you hated how you had actually spent a good minute admiring his features.Â
He wore a simple beige coat over a white tee, paired with a pair of black slim pants with leather shoes. His black hair was styled all the way back, leaving a little strand of hair down on his forehead. He was busy flipping through his documents while setting up his laptop to project the PowerPoint slides for everyone to see.Â
You just hated how extremely good-looking he was right now and that there was a high chance that you wouldnât concentrate on your work throughout the next hour.Â
And how you would actually want to run into his embrace and give him a little peck on the lipsâ
Wait, what?Â
As Juyeon finally lifted his head from the monitor and looked at everyone else in the room, it was a sign that the meeting was about to commence, and you quickly took the still available seat, the front seat.Â
Throughout the presentation, you tried your best to take in everything that Juyeon- well, your CEO, was trying to convey to his employees. It turns out that this upcoming fashion show would be one of the most crucial ones the company has ever done for years, especially now that all the big brands are willing to collaborate with GQ Korea and put out the best fashion show in the country.Â
It was quite a breathtaking look to see how Juyeon was passionate about his job, talking and explaining each detail to his employees carefully while making it enjoyable for everyone to learn or be part of. With that, you have noticed how every single employee in the room was constantly taking down details as quickly as lightning, making sure not to miss out on any small detail. There were moments when some would raise their hands to ask further questions, and Juyeon was more than happy to answer them, making the whole meeting seem less stressful but instead quite engaging in return.Â
There were times when you found yourself staring at him more than you shouldâve, and every time he diverted his attention towards you, you would quickly duck your head down to look back at your laptop as if you were busy typing away on your notes.Â
Time seemed to have passed quickly as Juyeon finally wrapped up the meeting and let everyone off. In fact, the meeting ended right at the dot, and it was just past noon, meaning it was lunchtime for all employees. Everyone was quick to dash through the door, their stomach grumbling after using up all of the energy for the meeting. For you, you decided to pack up your belongings at your own pace, knowing that you would be spending your lunch back at your cubicle with the little bento box your mother had packed for you this morning.Â
As you are about to head straight for the door, the familiar voice stops you in your tracks, making you turn your head back to face the man himself.Â
âMiss L/N, I would like to have a word with you.âÂ
Oh, god. Itâs here.Â
Mentally, you were cursing out all the vulgar words you knew at the back of your mind as you slowly approached your CEO, trying your best not to let out the croak in your voice.Â
âY-Yes, may I help you, Mr Lee?âÂ
âThere is a place that I have to pay a short visit, and I would like you to keep me company.â
Whenever an employer or the CEO would address their employees to keep them company as they pay a visit to a certain location, it usually meant that it was to meet up with a client or to survey certain products or places that could significantly be crucial for the companyâs success.Â
But here you were, sitting in one of the fancy cafes that wasnât far from the office, having lunch with your CEO, who was sitting in front of you.Â
Juyeon said nothing along the way as he brought you to the cafe, insisting that you sit down and order from the menu with no questions asked. As awkward as it was, you were about to deny his request before he looked straight down towards the menu, not even glancing at you.Â
You figured this was probably part of the job, and there was no way you would deny your CEOâs request right here and then, especially when it was working hours and everything was strictly business.Â
Once both of you have made your orders to the waitress that just passed by a minute ago, you diverted your attention towards the tablecloth, not wanting to look straight at Juyeon. However, his deep voice caught your attention, and you lifted your head back up after hearing the words you had wanted to say for the past seven years.Â
âI think itâs about time I told you the truth, Y/N.âÂ
Oh, he called you by your name.Â
As you focus your attention right on him, you can see the sadness in his eyes once more, just like how it was back when you first encountered him in his office the day before.Â
âUmmâŚwith due respect Mr Leeââ
âJuyeon is fine. Weâre outside of work, Y/N. I would appreciate it if you could talk to me like we used to, and I will do the same,â he responded, slowly resting his arms on the tablecloth as if he were leaning slightly closer to you.Â
With that you took a significantly big gulp, knowing that the day you longed for was finally here. You were about to get the answers you desperately needed to know, but at the same time, you werenât so sure if you wanted to know the truth right now, especially with all of the things that you have gone through trying your best to take him out of your life completely.Â
âWill you please give me a chance to listen to what I have to say?â He pleaded, looking at you with a desperate look in his eyes.Â
Your gut and mind were trying to tell you that you have done your best to completely eliminate him in your life for the past seven years. Would you give up easily and open your enclosed heart just like that? After all of the hard work that you have done?Â
Say no, Y/N. You have gotten over the guy. Itâs all over between you twoâ
âYeah. Go on.âÂ
Goddammit, Y/N.Â
Immediately, his eyes lit up upon your words, and his shoulders slumped down a little, indicating that he has relaxed a bit.Â
âOh, thank god, Y/N. I guess you were still the same old Y/N that I rememberedââ
âYou said weâre not employers and employees now, so Iâd say cut to the chase with what you have to say while you can, Juyeon,â you bluntly replied as you crossed your arms around you.Â
In return, Juyeon gave you a little weak smile and a sigh before he eventually diverted his full attention to you.Â
âRemember when we got separated back in high school? During our graduation day, youââ
âYou left me behind, Juyeon.âÂ
âI didnât have a choice back then, Y/N. But now Iâm here to tell you everything. You have no idea how our stomach dropped when my father came home and told us that his company was about to go bankrupt, and we were on the verge of losing everything.âÂ
So that was what happened.
âAnd how it was also the day my mother found out that she had cancer and her chances of recovery were lower than expected.âÂ
âJ-JuyeonâŚw-why didnât you tell me all of this?âÂ
âI wanted to. I really wanted to so badly, Y/N. Because youâre my best friend, and you deserve to know everything. But I just didnât know how to, and I was afraid of what might happen, and I donât want to put the pressure on you.âÂ
âW-Where are they now, then?âÂ
Juyeon had to take in a big breath before choosing his following words wisely, knowing it mustâve been hard to even talk about it publicly. âMom became bedridden, and sheâs still receiving treatment in one of the hospitals back in the States. Dad is currently running a small little shop near the hospital along with my little brother.âÂ
âThen, why did you come back here?âÂ
âI came back because starting a proper company there was tough. I figured there might be a slight chance things could work out here in Seoul. With the remaining funds we had, I eventually begged my dad to give his final trust in me as I found a way to make things work out. Luckily, we had some acquaintances back here, and they helped me get into one of the prestigious universities and eventually landed me a job here at GQ Korea. I started as a normal employee before I eventually became their CEO a year prior.âÂ
It was then you noticed a single teardrop on the verge of dripping down his face from the corners of his eyes. Naturally and unbeknownst to you, your hand reached for the tissues placed neatly on the table, and you leaned in to wipe away that single teardrop.Â
Only then did you both realise what you were doing, and that was when your eyes widened, and you were about to prop down back to your seat.
That was until Juyeon grabbed your wrist, not wanting to let you go.Â
âThis teardrop is nothing, Y/N. Iâm so sorry you have to see this side of me. Itâs not very cool, I guess,â he chuckled, trying his best to lighten up the mood a bit.Â
As soon as he says those words, your other free hand eventually finds itself on Juyeonâs shoulders, causing the maleâs eyes to widen this time before you finally speak out the words that you have always wanted to tell straight to his face all those years ago.Â
âJuyeon, you need to start learning to put yourself before others. And I really mean it.âÂ
âY/N, Iââ
âNo buts. Even after all these years, youâre still the same as before, always prioritising others before your own. As much as you are the most kind-hearted soul Iâve ever seen, you need to start loving and giving yourself some credit,â you replied, adding a little pressure onto your grip on his shoulders.Â
With that, none of you said a word for a good couple of seconds, and you both just spent the entire time staring into each other's eyes as if you were conveying your messages non-verbally. That was until Juyeon finally decided to break the tension off by smiling at you, a genuine one you had consistently grown to love back then.Â
âSo, am I back in your good graces now, princess?âÂ
You were finally brought back to your senses, and you quickly removed both hands from him and sat down swiftly back on your chair, ducking your head down while giving a slight pout.Â
Juyeon missed this sight of you and was absolutely admiring the whole situation that unfolded before him. Just then, both of your meals arrived, and the same waitress from before gently placed each of your respective ones in front of you. Juyeon then gently placed the cutlery in front of you.Â
âDig in,â he mentioned before whipping out the napkin and placing it right on his lap, before going in with his cutlery to cut through his steak.Â
In return, you swiftly picked up yours and roughly cut through your freshly cooked breaded cod fish.Â
âNo one calls a normal friend princess, Lee freaking Juyeon,â you mumbled.
Just when you thought that would be the only time you would actually spend some time alone with Juyeon, it turns out the male had perceived that you both were back just the way you were when you were kids.Â
Since that day, Juyeon would actually make his way out to invite you often to join lunch with him at the same cafe, usually ordering a different dish from the wide selection of food on the menu. What Juyeon loved the most about the place was the ambience and good coffee, and he would always be seen ordering a big jumbo-sized cup of iced latte to bring back to his office to help get through the rest of the day.Â
You, on the other hand, were often stuck with more or less the same few dishes that youâve tried, and you, too, would order your usual iced americano back to the office once you both were done with the meal.Â
At first, you have always tried your best to avoid having contact with him; that first lunch date was just a typical day, as you would try to convince yourself. But whenever Juyeon gets a little break out from the office, he would either send you a personal email or sometimes ask his personal assistant to come down to your department to inform you to wait for the man down at the lobby at noon.Â
You obviously could do your very best to come up with excuses to let him know that youâre busy with something or you already have plans to eat with your co-workers, but it seemed that the heart does what it wants, and it does not align with the signals that your brain is trying to tell you; which is to avoid and cut off this whole friendship for good.Â
So you were back to being the giddy seventeen-year-old little girl who often felt excited whenever you spent time with your childhood friend. Hence, every time you were taking the very last escalator down to the lobby, you would often use that little time to admire the way Juyeon would always lean against one of the pillars while swiping through his phone with one hand and keeping the other one inside the pocket of his coat.Â
But you did not want to admit it just yet, so you would constantly remind yourself that heâs only back for a while; it wouldnât be so easy to open up your ice-cold heart again.Â
That was until today.Â
Just a few days prior, Juyeon had given you a ticket to visit this huge Christmas market in the town centre. At first, you stared at the paper blankly, thinking it was all a joke and he couldnât have gone with you. But the male made it clear that he invited you to come along, which would be the two of you together.Â
Your heart was bouncing so fast that you were afraid it would eventually pop out of your chest as you slowly approached where you both were supposed to meet. You figured it best that you arrived twenty minutes earlier to compose yourself and try to understand your situation.Â
As you paced back and forth for god knows how long, you finally heard your name being called out from the far distance, and you perked your head up to see that Juyeon was waving his hands and running towards you like he used to back when he was a kid.Â
Once he finally stopped right in front of you, he began panting heavily to the point you were genuinely worried if this man was actually alright.Â
âWoah, what the hell happened to you? You seemed like you were escaping from a monster or something,â you joked.Â
âN-NoâŚI went to get this for youâŚâ Juyeon then hands you a brown paper bag, and you accept it while being all confused.Â
âOpen it, Y/N. Have a look at whatâs inside,â he insisted before resting both hands on his hips.Â
While giving Juyeon a weird look, you finally peeped into the bag and extended your arm into the brown bag before you finally felt something soft against your palms and eventually pulled whatever it was out.Â
Your eyes widened when you saw what it was.Â
âJ-JuyeonâŚthisâŚâ
âRemember way back in high school; we promised each other that we would want to visit the Christmas markets, and how badly did you want this soft alpaca plushie that was way too expensive for neither of us to get our hands on? Yeah, I actually got it before the store closed like minutes ago.âÂ
He remembered.Â
You have always been vocal about wanting this plushie for years, and there was no way your parents were buying it for you, claiming that it was way too expensive (which it was since it was part of a collaboration with one of the high-end fashion companies) and that you wouldnât have a proper use for it. Back then, Juyeon couldnât do anything but reassure you that one day, your wish would definitely come true while always giving you pinky promises.Â
And now, you were finally receiving your biggest Christmas wishlist item as an adult, and you couldnât be much happier.Â
You laughed. âJuyeon, you do realise that Iâm not a child anymore, right?âÂ
âWho says plushies are only meant for young children? Why canât adults have their collection? Iâll tell you I have a Build-A-Bear in my bedroom.âÂ
âYou must be joking.âÂ
âMark my words, Y/N.âÂ
Eventually, you both started laughing out loud before you hugged the plushie close to you, activating the heating function in the toy to keep yourself warm; that was the main purpose that made you want to purchase this product long ago.Â
âThank you, Juyeon.âÂ
âWell, instead of thanking me, why donât you keep me company for the night as we explore this Christmas market together?âÂ
You smiled. âWith pleasure.â
âOh, Juyeon~ Have I ever told you how much Iâve admired your good looks? Iâd like to think that your family genes are something else.â
After an hour or two of walking through the entire Christmas market and having too much fun going to each stall and trying out the different activities and food, you eventually stumbled upon one located towards the furthest end and sold various eggnog drinks. You have never tried this particular alcoholic beverage before; you were mostly used to the beers that you often get back in the pubs in London. However, Juyeon insisted that you give it a go especially for the Christmas season, and he eventually bought both of you a mug.Â
The initial taste seemed a bit off to you, but once the alcohol started kicking in, you eventually began to chug the whole liquid down as if it were nobodyâs business. After some time, one mug of eggnog began turning into two, and then three, and finally, you were pretty sure that you were on your fifth mug by now.Â
That was when Juyeon realised that he shouldâve stopped you by your second or third mug because now you were barely walking properly without his aid, and your speech began to slur as he linked your arms over his shoulders, trying his best to support you while walking you back home.Â
You both had to take the subway trains to head back to your apartment and during the entire time, you were clingy with your childhood friend, often wrapping your arms around him and giving him a tight squeeze while mumbling incoherent words. You caught the attention of all passengers and passersby, but Juyeon could only smile at how you looked right now.Â
He had never seen you drunk before, and this was a whole new experience for him. But he wasnât too mad that you reminded him so much of your younger self; it was as if he was witnessing the seven-year-old you again in the present day.Â
After walking from the subway and, eventually, towards your front door to your apartment, Juyeon was about to take you up towards the elevator until you stopped him in his tracks.
âNo Juyeon~ why are you leaving me so early? We still have so much more to see in the market!âÂ
He smiled. âY/N, I think itâs time for you to head home to get some rest.âÂ
âBut I donât wanna~âÂ
With that, Juyeon grabbed hold of both your shoulders as he bent down to be on the same eye level as you, trying his best to talk to you in your drunken stage.Â
âY/N, Iâll see you tomorrow, hmm? Weâve had loads of fun today, and besides, your mom and sister would be worried sick about you at this late hour.âÂ
Immediately, you lifted your pinky at him, which caused the male to stare at you blankly. âPinky promise that I get to see you tomorrow, Juyeon-ie?âÂ
Oh, how insanely adorable you were to Juyeon right now.Â
He chuckled before linking his pinky with yours, shaking it left and right slightly as if to seal the agreement. âI promise, weâll see each other in the office first thing tomorrow morning.â
With the final pinky shake, Juyeon guided you towards the elevator and pressed the button. As you both waited for the elevator to come down to the ground floor, you suddenly broke off the silence, and Juyeon had to blink twice to know he wasnât hearing things wrong.Â
âIâve always liked you JuyeonâŚeven after all these yearsâŚI never stopped loving youâŚâ you sobbed.Â
Your nose was now sniffling, and you closed your eyes to let the tears drip down, not caring what Juyeon would think about all this. You were done trying to hold it back for so long, and you needed to let the burden that youâve held onto for years finally let loose, and well, you were drunk at this point, so you couldnât really control the words that slipped out from your mouth.Â
âWhy did you leave me just like thatâŚdid you know how much pain it has causedâŚand how hard Iâve tried to forget every single thing about you? I even threw away all of the pictures and toys weâd had together because the flashbacks of memories would often play in my mind upon seeing them,â you were now crying, and you began to raise your voice a little.Â
âWhy, Juyeon, WHY!!â You screamed at the top of your lungs, and immediately you burst out crying, plopping straight down onto the concrete floor. You hated how the alcohol wasnât making you think straight and that you were feeling a roller coaster of emotions right now.Â
Just let it out, Y/N. Youâve suffered long enoughâ
Immediately, a warm pair of arms wrapped around you, and a hand gently pushed your head down to let you rest on the crook of their neck. You finally glanced up to see that it was Juyeon, holding you tight and resting his chin on the top of your head.Â
As much as you want to push yourself away from him, you canât. You couldnât explain why, and you have even made a pact to yourself that you wouldnât want anything associated with him anymore.Â
But why did the saying the heart wants what it wants have to be so accurate?Â
You hated it, hated how you have always let your emotions take full control over your mind, not making you think straight, and often going against your plans. In fact, your heart ached so badly, and it was the same feeling that you felt seven years ago, right when Juyeon left you alone as he hopped onto his vehicle.Â
The only thing you could do right now was to let the stream of tears pour down and cry out to your heartâs content. You felt weak, and you could do nothing to push him away.Â
Juyeon couldnât blame you, though, because how could he? Especially when he was the one who said nothing all those years ago. Now, he was seeing with his own eyes how much pain and trouble it has cost you, turning you into a vulnerable little petite girl who was crying her heart out in his arms.Â
With that, he moved his lips down to plant a little kiss on your head and eventually closed his eyes as your cries filled up his eyedrums.Â
âIâll make it work, Y/N. I promise you that Iâll make things work this time.â
âOh, good fucking hell.âÂ
You were sitting on your work desk, bringing your hands to cover up your face. It was an absolute nightmare to hear from your sister about what happened the night beforeâhow you got drunk and caused a little scene in public, which made everyone turn their attention towards you, how Juyeon was the one who brought you all the way back home, how you had a breakdown in front of him to the point you eventually fell asleep after crying your eyes out to the point he had to physically gave you a piggyback up to your front door and assisted your sister to plop you down on your bed.Â
If there was a nearby cliff near your workplace, you would do anything to ditch work and actually head straight up there to jump off from the embarrassment.Â
You were already not having a good time reuniting with Juyeon, let alone trying to sort your emotions out while seeing him at work every day and that he was your boss. But to confess your deepest thoughts while being vulnerable and drunk in front of him? That was not written anywhere in your books.Â
As you were spending your entire lunch break groaning over what happened last night, you immediately received a call from your desk telephone, and you quickly composed yourself before picking the phone up.Â
âY-Yes, hello? This is L/N from the editorial department; how may I assist you for the day?â
âGood afternoon, Miss L/N. Please report to the CEOâs office immediately whenever you can.âÂ
Oh, Jesus take the wheel.Â
The entire walk up to the CEOâs office was nerve-wracking; it was as if you were being sent to detention at the principalâs office because you messed up really badly. So many thoughts ran through your mind, thinking about how to apologise to Juyeon for the scene you had caused the day prior.
Once you walked into his office, you tried your best to devise the best phrase to start the conversation, but it seemed that Juyeon beat you to it, immediately handing you a red ginseng hangover drink.Â
You reluctantly accepted it while mumbling a soft âthank youâ before he insisted that you drink it immediately before him. Once you were done, he took the bottle away and tossed it straight into the bin, directly briefing you about the upcoming fashion show, now only a month away.Â
Now that it was back to business and you were no longer childhood friends, you tried your best to keep your composure as you listened to all of the details he was going through one by one with you.Â
Eventually, he decided to bring you along to meet up with one of the CEOs of the high-end brands on a trip to Seoul to discuss the plan in person further. Apparently, you have met with the CEO of Fendi, and itâs one of the brands that have been associated with GQ Korea for decades now. Somehow, Juyeon has gotten pretty close with the famous man himself over the years.
All of you met up in the famous Four Seasons Hotel for a pretty luxurious high-tea session while discussing the whole fashion show. It was mostly just Juyeon conversing with the CEO himself; you were mainly there to take down all the essential notes that both parties spoke.
Usually, it would have been his personal assistant job, but he insisted that you come along this time, saying it was part of your training. To be completely honest, you werenât sure if Juyeon was the one mixing up between work and personal life issues at this point. All you wanted to do was to pray that this meeting gets over and done with quickly so that you could head back towards the comforts of your cubicle in the office and not face Juyeon for a while.
After an hour or so, it seemed as if the meeting was wrapped, and both parties finally parted ways for now, causing you to head straight back to Juyeonâs vehicle. Many people would think most CEOs would have their chauffeur, but Juyeon insisted that he always preferred to drive alone.Â
He was still the chatterbox that you have always remembered back in the day, how we would often come up with any possible topic that would keep you entertained; you both could talk for days back then only if both of your families didnât stop you from heading back home for meal time.Â
There was only one problem this time: you were still troubled by what had happened the day before, and it was hard enough to even join Juyeon for this meeting with the CEO of Fendi in the first place. Now that both of you were alone in the car, things were far more awkward than they already were. Juyeon never touched on the topic from last night, but still, you couldnât bring yourself to look at him in the face.Â
Just when you thought Juyeon was about to take the left turn to head back towards the office, he took the other lane instead and drove towards the opposite direction.
âJuyeon, the office is the other wayââ
âLetâs go somewhere, Y/N. Treat this as a little gift of stepping out of office hours for a bit. Youâll still get paid, though; donât worry. Iâll make sure to inform your head department about your absence.âÂ
What on earth is going through your mind, Juyeon?
It has been a few minutes since you have physically pressed yourself against the tank, slowly admiring various species swimming about minding their own business.Â
Apparently, you both have arrived at the COEX Aquarium, known for homing a large variety of rare species of aquatic animals and typically the best place for school trips, holidays, and even as a date.
Wait, scratch that last oneâ
âDidnât you always say how coming here has been on your bucket list for the longest time?â Juyeon questioned you as he slowly walked up towards where you were from behind, slipping both of his hands into his cloak as he, too, began admiring the beauty in front of him.Â
That was when you finally diverted your attention to his face for the first time since hopping into his car this morning to head to the hotel. You were upset at yourself with how the feelings were the same as before: his pretty sculpted facial features, how good-looking he actually was, and how he could do the bare minimum, yet you would still swoon over the man himself.Â
With all that has happened lately, something told you this was more than friend behaviour. Sure, Juyeon might be trying his best to patch up this whole relationship you once had, taking you to places and recreating new memories with one another, but you werenât sure if Juyeon felt the same way as you did.Â
That deep feeling within the pit of your stomach made you feel uncomfortable, and it was about time you finally confronted him about the one question that had pondered at the back of your mind for the longest time.Â
If both of you wanted to continue whatever was happening between you, you needed to get the specific answer first.Â
And it has to be now.Â
âJuyeon, can I ask you something?âÂ
He hummed. âYeah, go ahead.âÂ
With that, you turned your entire body facing him and took a deep breath to figure out the right words to convey your feelings for the man himself. âI meant what I said the night before.âÂ
That alone was enough to get his full attention, as he was now slowly turning himself fully towards you as if he was staring straight into your soul. You wanted to chicken out so badly and tell him it was nothing, and you both could just continue with the silence. But you have already come so far, and you know that this will only continue to haunt you for as long as you live if you arenât going to address it now.Â
So you mustered up every bit of courage left within you, and opened your mouth again.Â
âI never stopped loving you, Juyeon. Even though we have lost contact for so many years, I never once stop thinking about you every single day. As much as Iâve tried so hard to forget about you, hell, I threw everything that reminded me of you into the dumpster or boxes and kept them deep somewhere where I wouldnât even think about searching for it ever again, but to no avail.âÂ
Your body began to tremble as you tried to calm yourself down by playing with your fingers. âI couldnât, Juyeon. Every time I thought I have succeeded in getting rid of you from my life for good, the thought of you just somehow finds its way to creep back up in my mind.âÂ
âI have no idea if karma sent me back here to Seoul, especially when my career was doing well in London. Imagine coming back and discovering that my new employer is someone Iâve tried so hard to forget about? The mixed emotions I felt then were insufferable.âÂ
As you began to speak more, tears started welling up in your eyes, causing your heartbeat to rise rapidly. But you decided to press on and choke back on your tears.Â
âWith all that you have done for me for the past weeks and months, I truly have no idea what on earth you are trying to prove to me, Lee Juyeon. Are you trying to fix our broken friendship? Or is it something more? What exactly are you even planning to do, Juyeon?âÂ
Finally, you took a few steps closer until you were inches away from him.Â
âBe honest with me now, Juyeon. What exactly am I to you?âÂ
There was this tense moment between you two, and neither of you said a word to one another. You were looking straight at your childhood friend with red, puffy eyes, and his eyes were widened, looking at you and trying his best to take in everything youâd said.Â
Something tells you that it was best not to hear about Juyeonâs opinions at all for the fear of rejection once more. If you had the power to dissect his mind to determine his thoughts and feelings about all of this, you would. Yet, you were still afraid of what might happen next.Â
As you wait for his response, you slowly examine how his shoulders began to slump, and eventually he tries his best to talk some sense into you.Â
âY/N, Iââ
âAh! Itâs Juyeon-ie!âÂ
The both of you immediately darted your head towards where the voice was coming from, and that was when you noticed a female running towards Juyeon while waving her hands, and a rather old man accompanied her.Â
Who could it be?Â
âSaeran? And Uncle Lee? What are you two doing here?â Juyeon questioned as the two individuals made their way towards you. It was also then they both noticed your presence and the soft-spoken young lady was the one who broke the ice.Â
âYou must be?âÂ
âO-Oh, I ummââ
âSheâs Y/N; she used to be my neighbour back in the days when I was still living in Seoul.âÂ
Just a neighbour, huh?Â
âAh, Y/N!â The young female extended her hand for a little handshake, in which you awkwardly return the favour. âItâs a pleasure to meet you in person finally! Juyeon has spoken a lot about you.âÂ
Before you could even give a reply, it seemed that the older man whom you now know was his uncle, or rather, perceived that he was the one who managed to help Juyeon get a new start in life back here in Seoul, finally spoke and diverted Juyeonâs attention back to what they were here for in the first place.Â
âWe had made a little appointment this afternoon, donât you remember, Juyeon?â
âOh, yes! Iâm so sorry. It mustâve completely slipped my mind since I have been pretty caught up with work lately,â Juyeon apologised while slightly bowing towards his uncle.Â
âNot at all, Juyeon. Iâm sure you mustâve been pretty busy with-â his uncle then diverts his attention towards you. â-a lot of things.âÂ
You definitely felt way too uncomfortable at the moment, and you needed to get out of the aquarium right this second if you did not wish to be suffocated by all of the tension in the air.Â
Immediately, you gently removed your hands from the young female and quickly made a ninety-degree bow towards all of them.
âMy humble apologies, it seems that I have disrupted an important meeting. I shall take my leave now.âÂ
As soon as you turned your heel towards the other direction, you suddenly felt a pair of hands grab your wrist, stopping you in your tracks.Â
âY/N! Wait, Iâll drive you backââ
âNo, itâs fine,â you tried your best to smile at him. âIâll just take the train located right outside the aquarium. Have a good day.âÂ
You instantly slip your hands off his grip and dash straight towards the front door, trying your best not to look back and ignore the tears dripping down your face as you walk down the steps towards the subway.
It was now week two of cutting off all contact with Juyeon. It hadnât been easy for you both at work and personally. In fact, you havenât been doing great at all. It was as if you had turned into a living zombie, often feeling rather emotionless and drowning yourself in paperwork and avoiding contact with another except for your head of department.Â
Since Juyeon was still your employer and CEO, he has definitely tried all means of contacting you, asking to see if you were doing okay or trying to get you up to his office to talk about the fashion show, or rather, to talk things out. But every single time, you would find ways to decline his request as best as possible while respecting him as your boss first and foremost.Â
After a week of declining his invitations, his messages and calls eventually stopped coming a week ago; it was as if he had completely vanished for a little while. From what you have heard, it seemed that he had some urgent matters that he had to deal with, causing him to leave the office into the hands of his assistant for now.
It was finally a little breather for you since you didnât have to put on this facade for the time being, letting you let loose for a bit. Going through sleepless nights throughout the past couple of weeks definitely has taken a toll on your mental well-being.Â
You told yourself you needed to hold it all in for another week. Once this whole fashion show is done, you will get your well-deserved vacation off work for one week.Â
Itâll be alright. Things will definitely work out in one way or another, Y/N.
It was finally the day for the long-awaited fashion show hosted by GQ Korea and the collaboration among famous brands around the globe. A swarm of people marched into the rented convention hall, filling the entire space within minutes.
You and your co-workers were busy getting everything organised and ensuring everything was in place. Since you were in the editorial department, you have been going about talking to all of the big figureheads from each respective brand, mostly just breaking the ice as well as interviewing them so that you have your necessary notes to draft out the proposal for the upcoming magazine.Â
Time passed quickly and it was time for the show to begin. As you sat down on one of the chairs, you made your way towards the far end corners of the hall, getting ready your notepad and trusty blue ballpoint pen.Â
As the light began to dim, Juyeon eventually made his way up on stage with a microphone, giving the guests a warm welcome and a little opening speech before the models began their runway walk. Seeing the man himself again was a bittersweet moment for you. As much as you wanted nothing more associated with him, your eyes just couldnât seem to turn away from him.
It did not help that he was dressed up in a black tuxedo, with his hair styled up with his usual one strand on his forehead. He looked strikingly handsome, and you wouldnât be surprised if he managed to woo almost everyone in the audience tonight. The way he presented himself was truly magnificent, and you could see why he was able to rise to the ranks of being a CEO at such a young age.Â
Tears began welling up in your eyes again, but you tried your very best to hold them back and mentally cursed at yourself, thinking that this was all professional work now and that there was no room for any personal matters for the night.Â
Once he made his desired speech, he eventually came down from the stage and sat at one of the front row seats, and that was where you could clearly see that the very same girl from the aquarium sat right next to him, along with his uncle and personal assistant. It shouldnât bother you since they are practically family to him. It was none of your business, so why couldnât you take your eyes off them?
Or rather, with him and the young lady who was clearly having fun whispering into each otherâs ears.Â
It has nothing to do with me.Â
You constantly reminded yourself that whenever you tried to spare a glance at them, all while you were taking down notes from the show. It was definitely a challenge trying to stay focused, and there were a couple of times when you needed to close your eyes for a bit and take a few deep breaths to proceed with your work.Â
The show finished smoothly, and the audience responded with a standing ovation. You definitely felt a sense of accomplishment from that, too, given that all of your hard work over the past months had finally paid off.Â
The event wouldnât have been complete without an after-party, so here you were in the hall next doorâwith all of the guests, models, and even staff alike having loads of fun chatting about with a glass of champagne in hand. Eventually, the DJ that was hired began to blast out a wide selection of music, indicating that whoever felt comfortable hitting up the dance floor was able to do so.Â
You smiled as you saw a couple of your close co-workers pull up some moves on the dance floor; it reminded you of loads of your time back in the UKâgoing to the local pubs and just having the time of your life drinking and partying with your friends.Â
Just as you were lost in thought, you suddenly felt a little tap on your shoulder, and you turned around to see that Juyeonâs assistant insisted that someone wanted to see you in person.Â
You didnât think much of it since you already had a little bit of alcohol in your system, so when you finally realised who was the one who wanted to see you, panic began to rush through your veins, and you tried your best to make sense of the situation.Â
âMr Lee? Is something the matter?â
You did not need to see the older male again, especially when he gave you a not-so-good first impression back at the aquarium. However, you had no reason to devise an excuse to leave; he was much superior to you anyway.Â
âWhy, good evening, Miss L/N. I hope you are enjoying the party so far, and congratulations on the job well done. I must say Juyeon always excels in his work, no matter what obstacles he encounters along the way.âÂ
The only thing you could do was flash a little smile back at him, as much as it made you uncomfortable. In the back of your mind, you have dozens of questions running through your mind, thinking about in what manner his uncle has any business with you.Â
Eventually, he began speaking as if he was chanting through a book, giving you a whole load of information that was a little bit too much to take in at the moment.Â
âIt seems that Seoul life has been too tedious for you, donât you think? Have you ever wondered about transferring back to London? Perhaps it would be a much better place for you to reside in.âÂ
âUmm, with all due respect, sir, how did you know about my backgroundââ
âOh, I have always kept an eye on you; you were Juyeonâs childhood friend, after all.âÂ
Keyword. âWereâÂ
âWith that being said, I have read a couple of your articles before from the London Mail, and I must say, they are actually quite extraordinary.âÂ
âW-Why, t-thank you, Mr Lee. I really do appreciate themââ
âSpeaking of transferring, the CEO for Fendi has actually taken quite a liking to you and your work. Even throughout the whole fashion show back there, he has been talking on and on about you, saying how you would prove to be a fruitful addition to his company.â
Just like that, Mr Lee began to step forward to hand you a little sticky note, which clearly had a number written on it.Â
âIf you ever change your mind, give me a call. Besides, Iâm sure you already know the answer deep within your heart. I will be waiting,â Mr Lee responded with a smug before entering back into the hall.Â
You stared back down at the note and eventually began thinking about what his uncle said prior. Suddenly, you started feeling conflicted, thinking this was the right place to belong. But it could also be his way of trying to brainwash you; youâre pretty sure you felt like a menace in his eyes.Â
You decided you needed some fresh air to clear your thoughts for a bit, so you headed out towards the balcony right up the stairs. You figured that an open-air rooftop seemed perfect for some alone time.Â
If only you were the only one who was planning to use the same exact spot that is.
Right when you reached the door that was ajar on the rooftop, you immediately recognised the two people standing before you, the female leaning in to give your childhood friend a peck on the lips.
You stand there motionless, and immediately, your blood starts to boil, something you havenât felt in a while. The glass of champagne then drops towards the ground, and the shattered noises make the two turn their attention towards you.Â
It all felt like a sudden pause like time had stopped for a few moments. The both of you were staring deep into each otherâs eyes, not knowing what to do or how to respond. But then, Juyeon eventually spoke to break the silence.Â
Before you could ever hear what he had to say, you were already dashing down the stairs, not caring that you had missed a couple of steps and that there were a few instances where you felt like you were about to trip and fall straight down back where you came from.Â
Not even wanting to let your co-workers know about anything, you quickly dashed through the front gates, running through the now gloomy skies that were bound to have a heavy downpour within a few minutes.Â
You shouldâve remembered that Juyeon was the basketball team leader back in high school for a reason; no matter how fast you ran through the streets, he eventually caught you and yanked you back towards him, causing you to press up against his chest.Â
âLet me go! Let me goââ
âY/N! Please! Let us just talk things out.âÂ
You used up all of your strength and pushed him away as hard as you could before you began raising your voice back at him. âTalk? Donât be ridiculous. You have done more than enough, and I have seen enough.âÂ
âY/N, no. You donât understandââ
âWhat else do I have to understand!?!? You have done more than enough to shatter me over and over again, Juyeon! And to think I was dumb enough actually to think we could work things out again!â You screamed.Â
âY/NâŚpleaseâŚjust calm down and listen to what I have to sayâŚâ Juyeon was now practically begging you, begging you just to stop.Â
âYou clearly donât understand the pain that Iâve gone through, Juyeon. You werenât there to witness or experience it anyway! Why did we even become friends in the first place, huh!?!?âÂ
God, catâs out of the bag.Â
That last sentence was definitely not meant to be said at all; it was one of your deepest, darkest thoughts that you have sworn that nobody should ever find out about, especially when it is directed towards the person who stood before you.
âI hate you, JuyeonâŚI really doâŚfor all of the pain that you have caused meâŚâ you were now sobbing like a child, which pained Juyeon so much seeing how you were now.Â
With that, a loud thunder resonated throughout the city, and a heavy downpour began pouring down from the skies. The both of you were now soaked, and you mustered up the courage to say your final words to him as the tears began mixing with the rain.Â
âPleaseâŚI beg of youâŚjust stop looking for meâŚor even talk to me at allâŚjust leave me aloneâŚthatâs the last thing I will ask of youâŚâÂ
âI donât want anything to do with you no more.âÂ
You slowly began backing away, and when you reached a good amount of distance, you turned your heel and began running away into the shadows, not sparing a final glance at your childhood friend who stood at the same spot under the pouring rain.Â
This is my final goodbye, Juyeon.
If you thought the whole week of you being a walking zombie in the office was terrible enough, clearly, nobody was prepared for the current state that you were in. You locked yourself up in your room and refused to see anybody, even your mother and sister.Â
You would constantly lay in bed, tossing and turning, even though it was hard to fall asleep. Since you avoided contact with your family members, there was nothing much they could do but place a tray filled with your meals and dishes in front of your door, waiting for you to eventually open up during times when you actually felt hungry and took them into your room to savour them all on your own.Â
You didnât need anyone or anything now; you craved alone time and peace.Â
As you curl up in bed, sometimes even at the corners of your room, your eyes would often dart towards the sticky note handed to you by his uncle. So many times you have thought about it: what if life wouldâve been better abroad and coming back to Seoul was truly a grave mistake that you have made? What if this whole decision was actually an awakening moment for you to realise that this is not where you should belong?Â
Days went back and eventually, it became a week. There were only a few days left before you returned to the office for work. The longer you kept staring at the note, the more motivated you were to take the risk and start again.Â
Every time you were reminded of what happened that very fateful night, you rationalised that maybe what Mr Lee said was true after all. Perhaps Seoul is really not your place to belong.Â
As the clock ticked, your desire to leave everything behind felt stronger.Â
You waited until the clock finally struck noon for you to finally stand up with your phone in hand, punching each number into the dial pad and bringing it to your ear.Â
Once the ringing eventually got through and you were met with a voice on the other end of the line, you took a deep breath before muttering the words you have been reluctant about all this while.Â
âIâll take up the offer.â
âFor the very last time sissy, I promise I will be fine,â you spoke through your headphones as you were on a video call with your sister, who was back home at your apartment.Â
âYou have never done something so impulsive before, and given that you made this whole decision during your darkest hours? I highly doubt that youâre okay, Miss Y/N.âÂ
âWell, I can assure you that the darkest hours are gone, and Iâm now free and much happier. I can work with Fendi!âÂ
Your sister sighed through the phone. âWorking with big brands is one thing; what about your physical and mental well-being?âÂ
âRome doesnât sound too bad to me, and besides, living in the UK for a couple of years has definitely given me the experience Iâve needed to survive back in the EU again.âÂ
âFine. JustâŚbe careful, okay? Give mom and I a call once youâve touched down.âÂ
You gave a little flying kiss through the phone. âDonât worry, I will.âÂ
After waving goodbye on both sides, you clicked the red end call button and leaned back onto the chair you had been sitting on for the past hour. It was definitely a shocker to you that Fendi was willing to accept you immediately without having to go through any sort of significant interviews and that they were kind enough to even provide accommodations for you. At the same time, you work for them under a contract of two years. Frankly, it was a good deal and a steal.Â
You slowly stare into the digital clock on the big screen, which eventually becomes an announcement.Â
âAll passengers bound for Rome, Italy, please head to gate 4B and be ready for boarding!âÂ
Instantly, almost all of the people around you began standing and lining up as if they needed to be the first to get on board. You have always disliked and never understood why the rush and pushing against one another trying to fight for the first slot, so you often just sat back and relaxed until only a couple of folks left to board the plane.Â
Time went by quickly, and thirty minutes have passed since then. Now, only a handful of passengers are left to board. That was when it was your cue to get up and sling your backpack onto your back.Â
As you slowly walked towards the counter to let the flight attendants scan your passport and let you through the gates, you felt a sudden tap on your shoulders, causing you to turn behind to see who it was.Â
You didnât have much time to respond until you were pulled in for a tight embrace; that familiar cologne was enough to make the tears well up in your eyes again.
âJ-JuyeonâŚâ your voice muffled.Â
âStop. Let me justâŚlet me do the talking this time. Please.âÂ
You would have definitely fought back and started pushing him away once more, but it seems that you were either too taken aback or lost all of the energy throughout the past week to do so. Instead, you just stood there motionless in his arms.Â
âY/N, I know it would be horrible for me to ask for forgiveness because I definitely do not deserve any of that after what I have put you through. Or even for another chance because you clearly gave me one, and it was my fault for not appreciating nor cherishing the moment when it happened,â he began stroking your head, his fingers running through your long, silky, soft hair.Â
âBut one thing is for sure: I will not let you go this time. This time, I am going to hold you so tight that thereâs no room for you to escape; Iâll make sure that you will forever be safe and sound in my arms, and I will be the one who is going to bring you joy instead of pain and tears.âÂ
He then bends down to give you a little kiss on your forehead. âYou mean a lot to me, Y/N. And Iâd like to think you are more than just a friend; youâre my other half. Without you, I wouldnât be able to move on, knowing that I will lose you again, and this time, forever, if I donât stop you now.âÂ
âSo please, Y/N. Iâm begging you. Please donât go.âÂ
With his final words, you eventually find your arms slowly snaking up his back and returning the hug to him. You werenât too sure why you did that, especially after the tremendous pain you have gone through the past week in particular. At the end of the day, the phrase where the heart wants what it wants will forever remain faithful to you, whether you like it or not.Â
You sobbed. âYouâre not going to make me stay that easily.â
âOh yeah? You think Iâm not capable of doing that?â
âProve it then.âÂ
Instantly, one of his hands travelled back up to your chin and lifted them, causing you to look directly towards his as he slowly bent down to interlock his lips with yours. The kiss was rather heated, as if the both of you had been waiting for this to come so badly. You couldnât care less if you both were actually making out at the airport.
Juyeon cupped your face with both hands as he tilted his head for you to gain more entrance into his. His lips felt soft yet demanding as if you were devouring a forbidden fruit. In return, you run your fingers through his silky black hair.Â
After a few minutes, you both broke apart for some fresh air, trying your best to catch your breath simultaneously.Â
âIs that supposed to make me stay put in Seoul, Juyeon?â You teased.Â
With that, he merely replied with a little smile followed by a smirk. âThat, Miss Y/N, was actually a pact you made to me. Treat it as a contract, if you will, that you are bound to stay by my side no matter what.âÂ
âUgh, thatâs so foul of you!âÂ
âYou should know that I have my ways; Iâm not the CEO of GQ Korea for nothing.âÂ
The both of you eventually burst out into laughter while Juyeon finds both hands on your waist while you wrap your arms around his shoulders.Â
âListen, Y/N. I want to apologise on behalf of my uncle and Saeran.âÂ
âOh, yeah. No big deal. By the way, is Saeranââ
âItâs not what you think it is.âÂ
âItâs not?â
He smiled. âSheâs my little cousin, and she often showers me with tons of hugs and kisses, even though Iâve told her to stop a million times.âÂ
âWell, youâre lucky to have a cousin who loves you that much,â you replied.Â
âYeah, but sheâs going to have to learn that she canât do that anymore because someone else is going to replace her job for that.âÂ
As much as you knew who he referred to, you still wanted to drag this further. âAnd who exactly is that?âÂ
âHmmâŚmaybe the contract before wasnât clear enough. Should I make another one?â
You slapped his chest immediately. âDonât you dare, weâre in public.âÂ
Again, another burst of laughter was genuinely beginning to make you feel a lot better, even to the point of slowly healing all the scars you have had before.Â
With that, you needed to make yourself clear to the man himself.Â
âJuyeon, can I just be honest with you?â
âOf course, sweetheart.âÂ
âI appreciate you doing all of this for me, but I just want to give you a heads-up that itâll take a while for me to heal from everything completely and that Iâm sorry if I donât give you the exact treatment that you expect from me, and Iââ
You were then silenced with another kiss on the lips; this time, Juyeon took the time to shower you with as many kisses as possible, making sure that each was worthwhile before breaking the kiss again.Â
âY/N, I donât care about all of that. You can take as long as you need, but just know that I will be here for each step you take, and Iâll give you support whenever you need it. I promise. I will not leave you behind ever again.âÂ
As you both plastered a soft smile, you leaned in to rest your forehead against each other, taking in everything that had happened minutes prior.
âHereâs to a new beginning with you.â

Noel Noa would let his spouse do his eyeliner for him sometimes
â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘
(Itâs so canon that he wears eyeliner, I donât care none of that âoh itâs naturalâ bs my man is a cat-eye winged baddie)
I doubt he wore it when he was in the slums of France. He probably started using eyeliner regularly when he got recruited to a smaller team, his first real opportunity to change his life. Maybe he wears it because he likes the feeling of empowerment and belonging the dramatic flare the eyeliner brings to him. Maybe he wears it as a safety precaution, something to hide the flaws only he sees, and doesnât realize it yet. Maybe he wanted to be remembered, to stand out. Not to be identified as the poor, improper, uneducated boy with potential, to be a beast of a football player that stands next to no one. A man that was worth more than the dirty slums. If they wouldnât remember his name or his abilities, they would remember the cold, (desperate) hungry gleam in his amber eyes encased in a cut of harsh black liner.
Whatever the case, the eyeliner has stuck with him for years. Even you, his spouse that shares a home with him, hardly see Noel without it. Due to his profession, his training and competition often ensured that Noel would rise out of bed before you and sink back into bed after you. You donât mind though, treasuring your time with Noel comes in small but rewarding moments.
Like this morning.
Noel was to be at the airport in a few hours to fly to Japan from Germany with his team, Bastard Munchen. Apparently their presence is required for the next phase of the âBlue Lockâ program. You heard of it, having one foot in the football world at all times because of Noel; however no one in the world would have expected the upset that was the U-20 game held in Japan a couple weeks ago.
You werenât too fond of the idea of Noel staying at the Blue Lock facility for the foreseeable future, and you could tell by his attitude neither was he. This âNeo Egoist Leagueâ he mentioned sounded like one big round robin experiment to find players for the U-20 World Cup. Something only weeks away. The whole thing was like a dream, you just couldnât tell if it would be a good one or a bad one. Seems as though the whole world will have to figure out together as very few are privy to know what is happening inside Blue Lock as of now.
Despite his protests in favor of you sleeping in, you decided to accompany and see Noel off.
âNoel, Iâm not able to come with you. This will be the last morning I get to spend with you for weeks.â You stress to the figure washing his face in your shared bathroom.
âYou still have to go to work later today, you need to sleep. No one wants to deal with an employer that canât keep their eyes open for five minutes.â Noel calls.
âIâll be fine, Iâm a grown woman who can handle a little sleepiness,â You groan and stride to the bathroom. âYouâre one to talk on the matter in fact, I can see your eye bags from here.â
The two of you lock eyes and enter a silent competition. Noel refuses to admit his sleep has been plagued with thoughts about the Blue Lock situation and wishes for you to return to bed. You are unrelenting in your efforts of spending this time with him and do not want to lay in a bed getting colder by the minute.
Noel sighs. Victory. You 1, Noel 0.
âPerhaps then you should do my eyeliner today, to lessen the appearance of my eye bags to your satisfactory.â He mumbles and holds his hand out with the marker in tow. An olive branch. A gleaming smile breaks upon your face.
There was something very private, very intimate for Noel when he allowed for you to do his eyeliner. Him leaning against the counter facing you, you between his legs holding his face. It was about trust. It was about vulnerability. Even if Noel wouldnât admit it to you, he was giving you access to that little boy covered in dirt and bruises all those years ago. You knew it too, the way his face would lean into the skin of your palm as you held him steady. The way his shoulders would relax and his posture would slack. The way his eyes would close and twitch ever so slightly when they felt the ink from the marker. You knew you were holding the boy right now, not the man.
Youâve seen the boy a good handful of times. In the crux of the night when Noel would hold your body closer to him. In the evening husk when you would massage his body and play with his thick tufts of white hair. In the middle of the day; when you could hear the smile in his voice even if it wasnât present in his face as he called you on your lunch break. And in the morning, when you did his eyeliner.
And you were oh so fragile with him. He appreciated it greatly, the warm feeling that flowed through his veins. It complimented the confidence the eyeliner gave him perfectly.
Once you finished you pressed a chaste kiss to his nose, then one on his lips. He sighed slightly at the feeling of your lips touching. The momentary solace building his energy that the night had sapped away from him instead of rejuvenating home with. You rubbed your thumbs through his wispy white eyebrow hairs and waited. Noel slowly opened his eyes, and looked at the small smile adorning your face.
His eye bags were still present, he still carried that essence of tiredness. But there was more life in his eyes. They glowed brighter, more whimsical than before. It was the perfect blend of boy and man.
âThank you, Y/N.â The man said. For everything. The boy thought.
He couldnât verbalize it, not now. His emotions would over take him, and he canât afford that at this moment. Not when heâs about to part from you for so long. He had to be the man.
You understood though, you always do.
âAlways, my love.â
â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘

Restaurant staff losing their jobs for cheering on a pro-Palestinian protest. A Palestinian Canadian journalist fired for her social media posts calling for a #freepalestine. Medical residents flagged to potential hiring committees for their support of Palestinians.
These are just some of the many instances across Canada in which employees and students have faced firings, suspensions or calls for them to not be hired based on their publicly stated political stance on the Israel-Hamas war. It's a trend that has been reported not just in Canada but also in the U.S. and Europe, and across various industries, including media, law, health care and the service sector.Â
According to three Ontario-based lawyers who spoke to CBC News, some employers and institutions have been quick to take action against employees or students, creating an environment in which many are afraid they will lose their jobs or face consequences to their education if they express a political stance in favour of one side â Palestinians â during this war.
"I can tell you personally, in the last month and a half, I've probably spoken with someone at least once a day [about this]," said Jackie Esmonde, a labour lawyer at Toronto-based firm Cavalluzzo Law. "They're not always cases that we take on, but we do have in the range of eight to 10 cases that we're actively working on at the moment.
"I'm not seeing people making what I would consider hate speech or discriminatory speech." [...]

Note from the poster @el-shab-hussein: the article later goes on in detail about how pro-Palestinian prospective employees and current employees are stalked by zionists online and added to lists and have their employers called to get them fired or dropped from future employment. This is not something new to Palestinian activists. This is something that factually happened to a recent graduate Palestinian activist in Montreal, who I will not name for his safety.

As the first rays of dawn break through the window you start awake, your internal clock telling you itâs time to get up, even though youâve set no alarm.Â
You start to try to disentangle yourself from Donaka, but he only pulls you close again. âWhere do you think youâre going?â he grumbles sleepily.Â
âWork.âÂ
For some reason, he chuckles darkly at your answer. âDonât be stupid. Go back to sleep.âÂ
Youâre not sure what that means, but you relax back down into his arms. You close your eyes again, enjoying the haze of lazing in bed, snuggling, as unlikely a word that seems with a man like Donaka Markâbut you do not fall back asleep. You cannot stop wondering what he meant. Donât be stupid.Â
Well itâs too fucking late for that, you suppose.Â
An hour later he stirs, running a possessive touch over your body, almost as though heâs taking inventory. You turn to find him looking at you with a small smile that makes your heart beat double-time in your chest, for some reason. What is he up to now?
âShall we have breakfast on the terrace?âÂ
âOkay?âÂ
He is the boss. He reads the confusion in your expression, and you get the sense that heâs enjoying it too.Â
âIf you havenât figured it out yet, youâre fired as my housekeeper.âÂ
You blink in surprise at that.
âI am?â
âYes. And if anyone ever asks for a reference, I will inform them that you bite.âÂ
You press your lips, unsure if he is now amused, or still mad about that.Â
You do not, however, say that youâre sorry.Â
âThen whatâŚare you going to do with me?âÂ
âIâm going to take care of you, obviously.âÂ
At hearing that your blood runs cold. He presses his lips to yours, but you do not kiss him back, alarmed by his proclamation. This annoys himâhe kisses you harder, weighing you down with his larger body, shifting on top of you. âWhere is my sweetly begging little bunny from last night, hmm?âÂ
âSheâs nocturnal,â you grouse, winning a snarl of a smile.Â
âThatâs fine. So am I.âÂ
But then he proceeds to contradict himself, using you as he likes for his own gratification, twisting you up like a pretzel while he fucks your bruised little hole. He does not offer you pleasure this time, and you do not ask for it. Your body is sated, and sore, and for once your mind is almost clear.Â
Heâs going to take care of you.Â
What the ever loving fuck does that mean?
You find that youâre afraid to ask just yet, and you watch him quit the bed, stalking into the bathroom for a shower. He does not ask you to join him, so you are relieved to lie there, alone, and stare at the ceiling for a few minutes of peace.Â
***
After your own ablutions you join Donaka on the terrace, wearing a robe you found that seemed to match your lovely new nightgown. He pays you a steely look from across the table, and you are not sure if youâre in trouble again or not.Â
There is fresh fruit, boiled eggs, congee rice porridge, and tea on offer. You take some slices of mango and pour yourself a cup while you wait to see what your future holds.Â
âWell?â he demands, clearly still annoyed. âArenât you going to ask about the new terms of your existence here?âÂ
You find you are grateful, for some ridiculous reason, that he does not say employment.Â
âYou like to play god, donât you?â you ask instead, taking a sip of tea. âAlways watching, and pulling everyoneâs strings...â
You do not expect this observation to please him. The smile he pays you isnât exactly nice, but itâs better than one of his thunderous frowns.Â
âWhy play at god when you may as well be one?âÂ
Wow.
You raise your eyebrows to that, but give no answer, sitting back a little in your chair with your cup of tea. You look at him from across the table, feeling strangely zen about whatever heâs going to say next. Resigned, perhaps. But also you realized, while you were taking your shower, washing away the remnants of his essence on you and inside you, that you will never beat this man with force. Your only hope will be to go with the flow, and see what opportunity arises.Â
You are not hard like stone like he is, so you must be water instead.
Easier said than done, because you think the element that comes most naturally to you in a crisis is fire.Â
âVery well. Do enlighten me.âÂ
He narrows his eyes at you, clearly not enjoying this brave face youâre putting on. Heâs a bully, at his core. He wants a reaction, and you donât feel like giving it to him.Â
âCome here,â he demands, holding out a hand.Â
Your stomach lurches.Â
âIâm fine over here.â
âYou want to play this game again?â
You think about the ridiculous game of chase you played the day before. Then you imagine pushing Donaka over into the koi pond, and you crack a spiteful little smile. âMaybe.âÂ
He, however, is looking out over the steep ledge of the terrace with some concern. âYouâre not foolish enough to harm yourself out of protest, I hope? It wonât work.â
You snort in answer. âI donât like being in pain, if you havenât noticed.âÂ
âMaybe, but your tolerance for it is admirable.âÂ
Hearing that should not make you feel as proud as it does.Â
Water, you remind yourself. Flow, bitch flow.Â
Rolling your eyes, you stand from your place to go crawl into his lap. His big hands on your thighs pull you closer, settling your body just soâand there is that kindling flame inside you again. Godammit.Â
âAlright, darling,â you sigh in the bend of his neck, entirely too comfortable for your own good. âTell me your evil plan.âÂ
Like flipping a switch he laughs, delighted with your sass again. âMaybe I should just keep you locked up in my room,â he muses into your hair, nibbling at your ear. âPerhaps that would tame you properly.â Â
âOr perhaps I would chew through the fucking drywall,â you retort, and you feel his laughter more than hear it.Â
âWatch that filthy mouth.âÂ
âI think you like my filthy mouth.âÂ
âFor some things.â The look he levels at your lips should not send a frisson of heat across your skin. Suddenly you swear that if someone sprayed you with water you would steam. You definitely have a screw loose.Â
âIâm willing to give you run of the house,â he tells you, sliding fingers down your thigh. âAnd if you behave yourself, I will arrange for a proper escort to accompany you on outings while Iâm at work during the day.âÂ
âLikeâŚa babysitter?â
âThe person I have in mind was Chinese Special Forces, but sure. Call her a babysitter to her face. See where that gets you.âÂ
You grumble a little into his neck, but not like you mean it. This is interesting. Because leaving the houseâŚmeans opportunity.Â
âFine.âÂ
âFine?â He actually sounds surprised, clearly having expected you to fight him more. But you know if you resist himâŚhe will lock you up, and then you will be up the proverbial creek.
âFor now.â This wins the wicked smirk that signals heâs having fun again. And maybeâŚyou are too, which is a whole other forbidden box you donât really want to get into.Â
âAs if you have a choice.âÂ
âI am aware you have me over a barrel, dear.â The dark chuckle he directs into the bend of your neck should not make your clit purr the way it does.Â
âNow thereâs an idea.âÂ
âUgh.âÂ
âHmm.â He kisses your jaw, grazing your cheek with his teeth. You let him, laying passive in his arms.Â
âButâŚwhat am I supposed to do with myself all day?âÂ
Itâs not as though you like working, but...itâs what you do here. He scoffs at this. âAnything you want. Write. Peruse the library, Use the gym. Anything but sitting around eating potato chips.â
âDamn.âÂ
He pinches your thigh, making you squirm in his lap. âWhat is it with you and junk food?â
âNot all junk food. Just fried potatoes.âÂ
âHmm,â he growls.Â
âOh come on. Tell me you donât have a favorite food that you canât resist?â He narrows his eyes at you, and you nibble his neck. âI bet you do...â you singsong playfully.
âWatch those teeth.âÂ
So you lick him instead, and he frowns at you, though not in his usual forbidding way. âI should put you over my knee again,â he grumbles, his hand disappearing beneath your nightie, squeezing the curve of your sore behind. You are turning into a wet little mess all over again, sitting in his lap like this, and you hate yourself all the more for it.Â
âI havenât done anything!â you protest, and maybe itâs the genuine note of fear in your tone that satisfies him.Â
âMaybe not yet, but I know you will.â
âYou canât spank me for projected infractions. Thatâs not how punishment works.âÂ
The smile he gives you is all fang. âYou want to lecture me on how punishment works?â Â
You whimper, hiding in the bend of his neckâand itâs not for show. You really are pathetic.Â
He lets you, stroking your hair for a good minute like the pet you are, before answering your earlier question: âItâs possibleâŚI could eat my body weight in shumai.âÂ
Imagining this forbidding man excited about yum cha, drinking tea and eating delicious dumplings Hong Kong style, is surprisinglyâŚendearing.Â
You imagine what it might be like to go eat together at a restaurant, like a normal couple. Which is stupid, because you certainly are not.Â
Just because he was willing to let you go out with a bodyguardâa keeper, more likeâdidnât mean he planned to be seen in public with you. How would that go, if you ran into one of his high flying acquaintances in the city? What do they do, when the wealthy encounter each other in the wild with their mistresses? Do they exchange a wink and a nod? A pat on the back and a well done olâ boy? The thought of being regarded as a sex object in public makes you clench your jaw again.Â
âWhat are you thinking?â he asks, almost as though he can hear the gears in your sad little brain grinding.Â
What can you say to him? That in a fleeting moment of lunacy, you wish he was actually your boyfriend?Â
That you wish he actually cared about you?
You know you have to tell him something, so you force out past the lump in your throat, âI like shumai too.â
He hears it, of course. Thereâs no getting one over on this laser-focused man. You tell yourself that it is some cruel joke of the universe that he is so attuned to your emotions, yet somehow does not truly care about how you feel. Â
âWhatâs wrong?â
You shrug. âThis is allâŚa lot to process,â you deflect, which isnât in fact a lie.Â
âIs it? I think deep down, you knew where this was headed.âÂ
You dare to let out a shaking sigh.Â
âYou can mope and feel sorry for yourself,â he muses with his lips against your temple. âOr you can accept it, and enjoy it for what it is. Itâs your choice.â
Easy for him to say.Â
Another dark thought occurs to you, and before you can stop yourself you ask in a whisper, âAnd what happens when you get tired of me?â  Â
âGood question, little one. I suppose youâd better make sure I donât get bored.âÂ
It feels like a threat, and in that moment you cannot fathom he would ever let you go free. You donât really know anything incriminating, aside from what heâs done to you. Technically, itâs a crime, though women are treated badly all the time to little or no consequence, especially for men like him. All heâd have to do is present your notebook as evidence of your complicity. But a part of you just knows he wouldnât let it go that farâŚheâd never let you just walk away. Â
You sigh again, and then unexpectedlyâyou laugh. At the absurdity of all this, and at your own stupidity. Â
âIs something funny?âÂ
âItâs justâŚdoes it ever feel like we really are doomed to become our parents?âÂ
You never aspired to be a kept woman, but your mother was another story. You think itâs the whole reason she even had you, blindsiding your wealthy father with a pregnancy after a fling and milking it for all it was worth. You always had an understanding as a child that you were a meal-ticket first, and her daughter second. Strangely your father had never actually treated you badly, though heâd never really been present in your life either. You rarely saw him, the court-ordered summers you spent at his home. Mostly his third wife, and your half-sisters, who were all too happy to make your life a living hell.Â
This is far enough off base that you think you surprise him into giving you a real answer.Â
âI never knew my father,â Donaka admits. âHe left my mother when we were very young.âÂ
This shouldnât pull at your heartstrings for him the way it does. âWe?âÂ
Thereâs a very long pause, before he admits, âI have a sister.âÂ
âWhere are they?âÂ
He lifts an eyebrow at you now. âSomewhere else.âÂ
âDo you ever see them?âÂ
âNo.â You hope heâll elaborate, but he remains silent.
âWhy not?âÂ
He seems amused by your prying. âWhy are you on the opposite side of the globe from your family, y/n?âÂ
You shrug. Part of the answer is that you like adventure. The other reasons are a can of worms you do not want to open right nowâsame as him, you suppose.Â
âIâve seen your motherâs Facebook page. She is a ridiculous woman.âÂ
For some reason you find it hard to imagine Donaka Mark, on the iPad he carries around, social media snooping. âWhat do you mean youâve seen her Facebook page?âÂ
âYou canât be surprised that I would check into your background. Itâs so easy, in this digital age.âÂ
Youâre not sure why the thought of Donaka Mark looking over your Facebook mortifies you. All your trip photos, and stupid memes, and existentialist Bourdain-esque travelog pieces that make you want to bury yourself in a hole these days, but still you keep them. Your old boyfriends, who still try to talk to you now and then, realizing what they lost much too late. Your assorted cousins who occasionally reach out before disappearing into the ether of their own lives again, and your half-sisters who all wish you were dead so they possibly donât have to split their fatherâs money four ways someday. Itâs not something youâve ever banked on. Â
âI guessâŚyou must find me ridiculous too.âÂ
Inexplicably his hold upon you tightens a little. âNo.â He speaks softly against your temple. âWhat I meant, is that you seem nothing like her.âÂ
Youâre not sure if he knows it, but itâs possibly the nicest thing heâs ever said to you, and your grip on his arms involuntarily tightens. This man is just full of surprises, it seems. Â
âSoâŚwas thisâŚdevelopment the surprise you were talking about yesterday?â you dare ask. You suppose the announcement of not having to work anymore could be considered a prize, though youâre not sure you like the trade off.Â
âNo.âÂ
âOh.âÂ
Heâd just planned this all along, regardless. Lovely.Â
The silence between you stretches on, until strangely he breaks. âDonât you want to know what it is?âÂ
âIs? I thought it was all past tense now.â
âIt should be,â Donaka agrees. âLook at this.âÂ
He pulls up the loose sleeve of his robe to show you your handiwork on his forearm. The distinct imprint of your teeth, some broken skin, and a fabulous purple bruise. You trace the outline of the bite feather-lightly, morbidly fascinated by your mark on his skin. He watches you with an attention you perhaps should be wary of.Â
âYou like it, donât you? You bloodthirsty little thing.â He kisses you, a sweet, full-mouthed affair that melts your insides, until it ends in his teeth clamped upon your lower lip, biting just this side of too hard. You whimper in alarm, and he laughs wickedly, releasing you.Â
âHmm. Iâll get you back, bunny.â There is a heat in his eyes you donât entirely understand.Â
If heâd voiced it, he would have told you that the thought that he is already corrupting you into something more like him, excites him.Â
âNo, thank you.â
This amuses him, but he tips you out of his lap with a pat on your behind that turns into a squeeze. âFinish your breakfast, naughty girl.âÂ
He says nothing more about your surprise, and you do not bring it up again, deciding itâs better not knowing.

I saw this and thought of you
An Ah! Love one shot in which Jeonghan gets a little gift for Y/N.Â
You can find the Ah! Love masterlist here.
Requested? Yes!
Genre: just a massive amount of fluff. I am so soft for this couple.
Word count: 1.5k
A/N: You definitely donât have to read Ah! Love to enjoy this, but if you would like the full context, you can find it here. Fair warning, the word count got away from me a bit...
Jeonghan is in the bathroom brushing his teeth when he hears Y/N huff. Itâs loud enough to be heard over the scrubbing of the tooth brush in his mouth and he peeks his head out. He hasnât live with Y/N officially for very long, but it also didnât take long to do so once finally getting together. Heâd kind of already lived a lifetime just trying to figure out how to get here and he felt a ton of relief in being able to say that heâs in a shared bathroom, next to a shared bedroom, in a shared apartment. He liked sharing things with Y/N. Loved it even.Â
âWhatâs wrong, baby?â He says through the tooth paste, careful not to dribble any on his shirt since heâs already dressed for work.Â
Y/N is digging through her side of the closet, tossing shoes around. âCanât find any shoes to wear with this.âÂ
He dips into the bathroom to finish brushing his teeth before stepping out and giving Y/N a once over (or maybe a few times over) and finally says, âBoots? Itâs getting kind of cold, after all.â
âEh,â Y/N groans. âYou're right, but I have to be on my feet a lot today. They wonât be very comfortable.â
âOh. Well, then just wear your chucks. Theyâll look fine with that,â he reassures. He thinks she could pull off a trash bag, much less sneakers and dress clothes.
âCanât,â Y/N laments. âThey ripped last week. Badly.â She pulls out another pair of sneakers, though far less loved than the aforementioned chucks that she's in mourning for. âWill this look okay?â
He nods, because really, whatâs the difference between one pair of black sneakers over another at the end of the day? Her expression tells him there is most certainly a difference. âThatâs tragic,â he says genuinely. âWeâll need to get you another pair.â
âOh, yeah. But maybe next month,â Y/N says. Money is not exactly free-flowing for two grad students working entry level jobs and trying to afford an apartment in a major city. Theyâve made it work, but he knows sheâs aggressively penny pinching and will probably continue to for the foreseeable future. âAnyway, they were like ten years old. An incredibly long life for a pair of shoes I wore nearly every day.â
âChan will be devastated. He puked on those. They were special.â
Y/N bursts into giggles, pelting a pair of socks at him. âYou have no idea how gross that was! Wonwoo and I both almost threw up ourselves as a result of trying to clean that up.âÂ
Jeonghan giggles too, returning the socks and kissing her. âOh, I have no doubt. I had to take care of him that night, remember? I pretended he didn't exist for a week afterwards.â One more kiss to her lips and he finally sighs. âDonât be late, Iâll see you later.â
âLove you!âÂ
His heart still races a little hearing her say that so freely like it's an old habit, but he really, genuinely doesnât have time to run back and kiss her again, so he yells, âLove you too!â on the way out of the room. He'll make up for it by smothering her with affection when he gets home later.
~
A few weeks later, he meets Seungcheol for lunch. They both work around the block from each other and regularly meet like this, mostly as a way to avoid the awkward lunch conversation with coworkers in their respective break rooms. It's also becoming harder to coordinate time to hang out now that their worlds center around a pesky little thing called full-time employment. Thankful as he is for it, he misses his friends.
Theyâre walking back from lunch when they pass a store and something catches his eye in the window. Jeonghan stalls out and Seungcheol raises an eyebrow.Â
âAre you shopping for you?âÂ
Jeonghan elbows him in the ribs. âNo, dumbass. Who do you think it would be for?â
âI know, Iâm just messing with you,â he admits with a smile. âHer birthday is coming up, isnât it?â
âYeah, but⌠you know how she is about gifts,â Jeonghan trails off. Outside of a single gift exchange for Christmas last year, gifts are just not something that the two of them do. Some couples do all of the gifts - birthdays, major holidays, and just because. He doesnât know if Y/N will ever be that kind of person, no matter how much heâd like to spoil her. Itâs equally endearing and frustrating how non-materialistic she is.
Seungcheolâs shrugging. "You've mentioned it⌠but this one is functional. Sheâll use the shit out of this.â
Itâs like a lightbulb goes off above Jeonghanâs head. Seungcheolâs absolutely right and Jeonghan has no idea why heâs hesitated outside of this store for so long. âYou wonât hear me say this often, but youâre right,â he tells his friend. âYou can go on if you want, Iâm going inside.â
Seungcheol waves him off, saying he needs to get back to the office anyway.Â
~
Y/Nâs birthday dinner is chaotic. Somehow, everyone managed to make themselves available. Seokmin even came into town to visit specifically for this. This dinner is at the tail end of a particularly hellish week for Y/N in grad school - one filled with a few all-nighters and presentations - in addition to working her normal hours at her full-time job. Jeonghan can see sheâs burnt the candle at both ends and she doesnât want to say anything to ruin the celebration, but Jeonghan will. He makes an excuse that itâs his turn with the birthday girl and lets them take it however they want as he guides her out of the restaurant. He expects the group to go bar hopping anyway, something that he knows Y/N would bail on in a split second.
In the car, he buckles her in, patting her thigh lovingly. âYou did good, baby,â he praises, knowing how reluctant she was to show up to her own birthday dinner. She loves her friends and would never dream of disappointing them, but loathes that kind of attention being on her.
Y/N gives him a weak smile, âThanks. And thanks for the escape route, even if it was kind of suggestive.âÂ
Jeonghan laughs. âIt doesnât have to be suggestive, but it could be. Thatâs up to the birthday girl.â
He helps her peel off her shoes at the door and they both change into pajamas, piling up on the couch. He knows this is how she really wanted to spend her birthday, so he puts on the show that theyâve been binging and lets her cuddle into his side.Â
âHey,â he pats her thigh eventually to get her attention, but he ends up waking her. She blinks up at him sleepily. âI got you something, but you canât be mad, okay?â
Y/N frowns. âHannie, no. You know I donât need anything.â Despite the protest, heâs getting up to pull a box from a hiding place in the hall closet.Â
âOpen it. If you still think itâs unnecessary, Iâll return it,â he promises, placing the box in her lap. She sighs, resigned, and rips the wrapping paper, scoffing when she sees the logo on the box.Â
âHannie, you didnât have to do this. I would have gotten another pair myself eventually,â Y/N scolds, hands brushing across the top of the box of chucks.Â
âI know, but I beat you to it. Take a look,â Jeonghan gestures.
Y/N looks at him, perplexed. âArenât they just black?â She doesnât really wait for an answer, curiosity getting the best of her. Her jaw drops and she pulls out a glittery pair of black chucks. âNo way,â she starts in disbelief. âNo way!â This one is a little choked and he watches as she tears up.Â
âI couldnât help it. I saw it and thought of you. You know Iâll always feed both your chuck habit and your glitter habit.â
Y/N puts the shoe back in the box, hands covering her face as her shoulders shake a little bit. He wraps her up in a tight hug. âIs this a good cry or a bad cry?â He asks, mostly because this happens so rarely that heâs not sure. He can count on one hand the times that heâs seen her cry, and sheâs usually quick about wiping her eyes and moving past it. He likes that she's tough like that, admires it even, but also likes that she'll let her guard down like this in front of him. Like he's a safe place.
âGood,â Y/N answers, voice jagged. âItâs nice. Thank you, Hannie. I like that you see me. Really see me, you know?â
Jeonghan does. Heâs always felt that way about her. When he met her nearly a year and a half ago, he was totally unnerved by how she saw right through him, but now he loves it. He wants her to know that heâs trying to get her the same way she gets him.Â
âSo, I donât have to return them?â He asks with a hesitant smile, though he thinks he knows the answer already.Â
Y/N gives a watery laugh, wiping her eyes. âNo, you donât. Iâll keep these. Youâll never be able to take it from me.â
âAt least not for another decade,â Jeonghan muses. âIâll find you another pair then.â He hopes her heart is even half as full as his is.Â

âHi, Deac,â you greet as you open the door.
âHow was work?â he asks.
âIt was fine. My boss forgot to start a software update last night so we didnât have computer access until after lunch.â
âSo, you got paid to sit there and do nothing?â
âWhich isnât that much different than most days,â you tease. âWhat about you? Any crazy calls?â
You lead Deacon into your kitchen, and his smile widens when he sees dinner waiting on your counter. He pulls you into a quick hug before telling you about his day at work.
âNo injuries?â you ask softly.
âNo injuries,â he assures. âWhat about you; any paper cuts that need tending to?â
âJust mental injuries for me. Our financial statements arenât aligning like they should and if itâs not fixed by the next audit, someoneâs getting in trouble.â
âWhat do you think caused it?â
âOversight or adding the same bill twice, Iâd guess. But I think we should talk about something more exciting than my future IRS investigation.â
âThen letâs talk about that amazing dinner over there and Iâll remind you that Luca wants to have a cooking competition with you.â
Deacon has been your best friend since he moved in next door. You also harbor an ever-growing crush on him. When you saw him climb out of the moving truck the first day, you knew you wanted to be close. Heâs got a stressful job, so if you can give him a break and a friend, thatâs what youâll do.
Deacon watches the screen in the situation room as Hondo explains the corporate espionage turned weapon trafficking case. It's a strange move, going from stealing trade secrets to transporting illegal weapons across borders and into areas with strict gun control laws. Metro found a lot of evidence, but when they located the weapons supply in their prime suspectâs corporate office, they called in 20 Squad.
âWait, go back. Whoâs the suspect?â Deacon asks.
His eyes search the monitor as Hondo returns to a page of surveillance photos.
âElwin Dupree. You know him?â Hondo responds.
âNot personally, but I know someone who works for him.â
âCI?â Chris guesses.
âNo. She might be willing to help, though.â
âCall her,â Hondo says.
Hicks adds, âOtherwise, weâre going in blind. Metro has intel but itâs not enough to avoid an ambush.â
Deacon nods and walks out of the room. He presses a contact from his favorites list before raising his phone to his ear.
âRemind me why we work here?â your desk neighbor, whom you lovingly call Nola, says as she sits across from you.
âBecause the pay is good⌠and weâre desperate,â you offer, smiling as you accept your favorite drink.
âMay I remind you that Dupree is an idiot who canât even remember what he asks us to do?â
âJust smile and go with it, Nola, itâs the easiest way to handle it.â
âThe man called me into his office yesterday, and then didnât know why I was there,â she whispers.
âThatâs probably a good thing for you. Considering your nickname is based off of your reply of no; lazy.â
âI am lazy! So, I donât like to do things. He can fire me whenever he wants.â
You roll your eyes and prepare to reply but are interrupted by your cell phone ringing. You apologize to Nola before you answer it.
âHey, itâs me,â Deacon says on the other end of the line.
âIndeed, it is. Whatâs going on?â you reply.
âHow do you know something is going on?â
âItâs mid-morning on a weekday. And you never call me.â
âI call you all the time!â Deacon argues.
You laugh before you say, âNot when youâre at work.â
âOkay, fine, youâre right. Listen, weâre working on something, and your bossâs name came up.â
âDupree?â you inquire. âWhy?â
âI canât tell you exactly what weâre looking into, but Hondo and Hicks wanted to know if youâd be willing to help us.â
âOf course. Tell me what to do,â you agree.
âCan you come down here?â
âUh, yeah,â you answer. You open the calendar on your computer and add, âI can spare an hour and a half, is that enough time?â
âAbsolutely. Thank you,â Deacon says.
âAnything for you.â
You hang up and gather your things before standing.
âWhere are you off to? Please tell me youâre leaving to go on a date with the hot neighbor you always talk about,â Nola whispers.
âNot today. There was a slight mishap for some of our paperwork. I have to run to another office and get everything sorted out,â you lie. âIâll have my cell if you need anything.â
âDodging bullets left and right, arenât you? Go ahead, Iâll watch your phone and fill in Dupree if he notices youâre gone.â
âThanks, Nola.â
When you park outside the station, your thoughts begin spiraling. You sit in your seat and wonder if you made the right decision. Will you be in Deaconâs way or be too distracted by him to even help? What if something happens to him while youâre with him? What if he-
A tap on your window draws you from your questions. You turn your head and see Deacon looking at you through the glass. You send him a small smile as he opens your door and bends to look at you. His head tilts to this side, and when he lowers to a squat, his brown eyes distract you as he looks up at you.
âYou okay? You donât have to do this if you donât want to,â he says gently.
âNo, I want to. Just- I was thinking too much, I guess,â you reply.
Deacon nods and stands before offering his hand to help you out of your seat. He closes the door and ensures itâs locked before moving his hand to your back to lead you inside.
âNice to meet you. Iâm Hondo,â Hondo says as you enter.
You shake Hondoâs hand and introduce yourself as you follow him further into the station. He doesnât waste any time as he begins explaining as much as he can about how your boss is involved in the case theyâre working.
âWeâd like to send you in the get additional details on the office and any other information you can find,â Hondo says. âWeâve got basic floor plans, but we need insider info.â
âShe canât go in alone,â Deacon argues. âWe donât know what he has in that office. If she starts asking questions and he gets suspicious-â
You cut Deacon off by laying a hand on his shoulder and asking, âWhat if you go in with me? It wouldnât be that hard for me to lie about who you are; Dupree doesnât know most of the people who work in the building. Plus, you know what to look for better than I do.â
Hondo looks at Deacon and waits for his reply. You feel Deacon sigh against your hand before agreeing to go into the office with you.
âThereâs an employee entrance without metal detectors, but you have to swipe a keycard,â you explain. âTheyâll know if you piggyback with me.â
âOur techs can make him a keycard,â Hondo assures. âIf you have yours, they can copy parts of it.â
You nod and pass your card to Hondo. He turns and gives it to a passing officer with a few short instructions. Deacon pats your arm as he leaves to change; his uniform isnât business casual, but he said he'd find something more fitting.
â20 Squad is going to be close by,â Hondo begins. âDeacon can say a word and weâll be inside, but if you need help and get separated from Deacon, try to get to a window. Signaling for help is easiest with this; just keep it in your pocket or your hand and press the button if you need us.â
You accept the small device and slide it into your pocket. Itâs invisible, and you nod as Hondo reassures you everything will be okay.
âI know you canât tell me what exactly Dupree is doing, but youâre going to catch him, right?â you ask softly.
âAbsolutely. Nobody can run from S.W.A.T.â
You scan your keycard and wait for Deacon to do the same before opening the door. The employee entrance is on the side of the building, and you smooth your hands over your hips nervously. When you feel the device Hondo gave you, you relax slightly.
âWeâll walk to my desk, look at a few papers, and then go in?â you suggest as Deacon gestures for you to enter.
âSounds good,â he agrees.
âThe suit looks good,â you mumble as you walk toward the elevator.
Deacon chuckles as the elevator door opens, and you smile as he shakes his head at your flattery. The elevator is quiet, and as you wait to arrive on your floor, you take a few deep breaths. Deaconâs hand finds your lower back, and he rubs small, comforting circles before the door opens.
âStill working on the paperwork issue?â Nola asks when you reach your desk.
âYeah, we are. This is Ryan from the Santa Monica branch,â you say.
Nolaâs eyes narrow at you before she looks at Deaconâs hand. Heâs close to you, like always, but you donât understand her look. You raise your brows, but she only shrugs before looking back at her computer.
âWas it this one?â you ask Deacon.
He takes the blank form from your hand and nods. âYes, this is the one.â
You return the paper to its rightful place on your desk before leading Deacon down another hallway. Nolaâs reaction confused you at first, yet youâre not surprised when Deacon gently grabs your hip to stop you in the hallway.
âIâm sorry,â you whisper.
âItâs fine. Just stay calm and remember our covers. Like you said, Dupree wonât know any difference,â Deacon soothes. âAnd the teamâs waiting for our signal if we need them.â
You nod, and Deaconâs hands raise to your shoulders as he drops his chin to look into your eyes.
âYou got this,â he promises.
âI need to discuss an urgent matter with Mr. Dupree,â you inform his secretary. âThis is Mr. Ryan Davidson from the Santa Monica branch. There have been some discrepancies with paperwork submitted to their office, which needs Mr. Dupreeâs immediate attention.â
His secretary raises the receiver of her desk phone and whispers into it. You turn to look at Deacon, and he tilts his head to the left to signal you to stay calm and wait.
âYou can go on in,â the secretary says as she lowers the phone.
Deacon opens the door for you, and you step inside first.
âHello,â Mr. Dupree greets. He doesnât pretend to remember your name, you notice. âI heard thereâs an issue with some paperwork?â
âYes, sir,â Deacon says. âIâm Ryan Davidson with the Santa Monica office and weâve been having issues; receiving incomplete or incorrect paperwork from this branch.â
âMy sincerest apologies, Ryan. If you donât mind, use that laptop there and sign into your account while I bring mine up. Weâll get this sorted.â
You stand back as Deacon walks to the table at the back of the office and opens the laptop. Mr. Dupree didnât shake his hand, ask for identification, or take other proper steps before jumping to help. Itâs suspicious, but probably not what Deacon and his team need.
âWhat kind of incorrect information have you seen?â Mr. Dupree asks. You open your mouth to answer, and he adds, âRyan?â
âFinancial statements that arenât matching previous months, for one. Most likely an oversight or adding the same bill twice. Nothing too extreme, just something we need sorted before the end-of-year audits,â Deacon answers.
You raise your eyebrows in surprise at his response. He practically repeated a complaint you shared during your last dinner together.
âVery well. I donât know why the system is moving so slowly,â Dupree responds. He moves his hand under his desk as Deacon types.
You watch Dupree because Deaconâs team is getting him the access he needs. When you see the handle of a gun gripped in Dupreeâs hand, you call, âGun!â and drop to the floor just before he shoots above your head.
Deacon pulls his own weapon and points it at Dupree as he demands, âPut the gun down. Iâm Sergeant Kay, L.A.P.D. S.W.A.T.â
As Deacon speaks, you slowly press your back against the side of Dupreeâs desk, where he canât see you. Deaconâs eyes are on Dupree, but you watch Deacon because you trust him to keep you safe.
âI could put it down,â Dupree says. âBut if I angle it like this and pull the trigger, wouldnât it hit your little friend?â
Deacon glances at you quickly, and you lock eyes before you shift away from the oversized desk.
âOne more time: drop the gun,â Deacon repeats.
You canât see Dupree, but you clap your hands over your ears as you hear two shots. Everything goes quiet, and you lean forward slowly to look for Deacon. He kneels before you and gently pulls your hands away from your head. You let him move you before surging forward to hug him. He welcomes you into his arms as footsteps echo in the hallway outside.
âItâs okay. We got him,â Deacon promises.
You nod against Deacon and allow him to help you stand. Deacon keeps you angled away from Dupreeâs desk, and youâre happy to avoid looking.
âDid you get everything you need?â you ask quietly as Street and Luca lead a paramedic inside.
âWe did. Are you okay?â
Deacon lays a hand on your shoulder, and his thumb presses gently into your tense muscles as he looks into your eyes.
âGet her out of here. Hondo said you can take the rest of the day. Maybe she can practice for the competition,â Luca calls.
âI think you need the practice more than me,â you reply without turning.
Luca laughs as Deacon wraps an arm around your shoulders and leads you out of the office. He takes you back to your desk to get your things, and Nola rushes to hug you when you enter the open area.
âI heard the shots and was so worried!â she exclaims. âYouâre okay?â
âIâm fine,â you promise.
âThen I need you to do something. Go home and ask your neighbor out. Donât wait too long,â she says.
You nod and return to Deaconâs side. He heard everything from where he was standing, yet doesnât comment as he helps you into the passenger seat of his car. Once youâre on the road, he fills the silence by asking you questions about what you will cook for your competition with Luca. You know heâs trying to distract you from what happened, and you appreciate it.
Back at the station, you sign some paperwork to receive CI benefits before walking to Deaconâs side. He offers to drive you home and keep you company, which you happily accept. You never like leaving Deacon and donât want to be alone tonight.
âI waited too long,â Deacon murmurs while walking you out.
You stop and turn to face him as you ask, âFor what?â
âWhat your friend said. I waited too long to ask you out.â
You smile and slide your hand into his. âDid you know that Nola looked at us like that because you were standing really close to me?" Deacon shrugs, and you explain, âI never shut up about you, Deac. Iâm in love with you, so she was confused about why I was standing so close to another man.â
âNever?â Deacon repeats playfully.
âYou didnât wait too long, Deac,â you promise.
âI didnât?â
âNot if you take your chance right now.â
Deacon looks around quickly before yelling, âHicks! Did you file it yet?â
âNo; Iâm busy, Deacon,â Hicks answers.
âCan you make her Hondoâs CI?â
Hicks looks between the two of you and rolls his eyes. âYes, I can.â
When Deacon turns back to you, he doesnât give you time to speak before he asks, âWill you go out with me?â
âNothing would make me happier,â you answer.
Your smile grows to match Deaconâs, but he makes it disappear when he pulls you in and kisses you. The sound of clapping makes you open your eyes as you pull back. Hondo leads 20 Squad in a round of applause, and you bury your face in Deaconâs chest to hide your grin and burning embarrassment.
âMy CIâs never end up like this,â Hondo jokes.
âPretty good timing, though, wasnât it?â Deacon asks as he wraps his arms around you.
You stand wordlessly from the couch and walk past Deacon. He turns to watch you as you enter your bathroom and close the door. It only takes a moment for him to decide to follow you.
âAre you okay?â Deacon asks from outside the door. âAnd donât just say youâre fine. We both know youâre not.â
You open the door and lean against the vanity as he walks in. âI feel bad that you had to shoot Dupree. I know heâs fine and heâll recover, pay for him crimes, and everything. But you probably wouldnât have done that if I wasnât there.â
âDonât think like that. If he had refused to drop the gun or fired again, I would have stopped him. Whether you were there or not. The only thing that was different was how fast I decided to do it; he was threatening you, but that didnât affect my reaction itself.â
You nod, and Deacon places his hands on the vanity, caging you and keeping you close. âDonât carry that guilt around,â he requests. âIt gets heavy quickly.â
You slip your arms under Deaconâs to circle his waist. Because of your position, you look up at him and ask, âCould I have another kiss to help me overcome all of this guilt?â
Deacon laughs as his hand raises to rub your back. âAnything for my accidental CI.â
âIâm Hondoâs CI,â you remind him.
âBut Iâm the one that gets to kiss you, so who has the better timing?â
You let your kiss answer the question, and when Deacon pulls you against him to be even closer, you know that the wait was worth it. Though you probably wonât agree to go into the office of a weapon trafficker with him again, you will always be ready to help him when he asks and comfort him when he canât. Despite how much you loved Deacon when you thought you could only be friends, you feel more love now that you know he feels the same.

PAC: Why you didn't get the job/placement
Wondering why you were turned away or didn't receive the call? It's natural to wonder, even if people tell you to just move on. Here is an attempt to understand.
Group 1 is a ring. Group 2 is a pink flower, Group 3 is a plant.
GROUP 1
THE EMPEROR -Â TEMPERANCE - KING OF PENTACLES
Immediate impression is that the employer directly thought perhaps you as an applicant were not ready or prepared for the stress or situations that the placement might bring. They potentially would have wanted an applicant that was more ready to step quickly into the role, rather than someone they would have to spend more time/money training up or paying more attention to. This isnât to say youâre not actually qualified, itâs more that this person just made their mind up and that was that. With king of pentacles this is more money oriented, more thinking on profit long term. They may have thought that you didnât connect with them in terms of the long term impacts of the business/studies. If this was regarding specifically studies this could be that they saw it as a lack of foresight or big picture thinking. (Again, not saying this is actually true, if you feel that itâs an incorrect representation).Â
I asked what the employer, or teacher or leader or whoever was in charge, was looking for that you may have missed in communicating or showing. The card is Drive. It says âNo matter what my energy level is, today Iâm lighting my motivational furnace and burning with drive. Starting now, Iâm the reigning badass of productivity and Iâm about to blaze through my entire to-do list and then some.â So if you were to apply again or with the same people, you may want to show examples of how you have been assertive, or a self teacher, or someone who has initiative in their work.
Now we have âTijme to move onâ and âStay optimisticâ.It says âdonât quit right before the miracle occurs.â If this is something that crops up as a yearly opportunity or something to that effect, then stay optimistic that you can get a chance next time. If you are really interested in the role or type of opportunity, stay optimistic that you can get something similar in nature.Â
If you are applying for roles or studies while youâre already in something, time to move on suggests letting go of where you are mentally and emotionally first. That will energetically open you up to more opportunities. Stay optimistic suggests holding on for a bit longer and trying to visualize positive outcomes that make you feel happy, like something has happened.
I drew a card as something that you can show off about yourself and it is imagination. It says âI treasure my imagination, and I can conjure it at any time. My imagination helps me dream up creative solutions to complex problems that I wouldnât have thought of from inside this same-old box.â So you are someone who can think up some helpful solutions, even if they seem a bit different or strange. You can think differently and really add to research, work and teams.
Iâm sorry that you were turned away, but itâs looking positive for you in the future so good luck.
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
GROUP 2
So we have the 8 of swords and the king of swords. We also have time to move on and blessed change. This was not the job or placement for you anyway, I see really strongly it wouldnât have been beneficial for you in the long run. There is something more unexpected for you down the line.
The reasoning seems more based on how you appeared as a person? I feel like the ones who interviewed were people who saw themselves as logical, down to business and they may have seen you as an applicant who was more in their head in an inefficient way? I just donât think you were a fit, on either side. So the course, or the workplace, or the environment, wouldnât have really gelled. Iâm sorry I canât see any more than that to be honest. 10 of swords as an extra is hinting to me that maybe you said something that put them off and that was the nail in the coffin. Iâm not saying you said anything drastic, it could have just been something that made them think attitudes were different, or values werenât aligned. For example, I know someone who wasnât taken on because they said they were a direct person in the workplace. Imagine not wanting someone who is direct. So please donât take it personally, I just donât think you were for each other.
I asked what they were looking for that you may have missed, or didnât show. The card is prep work. âI make friends with the quiet loners, organization and planning. And I suddenly realize how cool they are! I start hanging out with them, and I bend to their influence. I even allow them to give my daily habits a makeover. Normally I wouldnât succumb to peer pressure, but isnât efficiency the best?â
Yeah, definitely seems like they were looking for someone like themselves (in their opinion). Now, letâs have a card showing what you can show off about yourself that you have. Self Reliance (ah, so you can be a one man band at times). It says: âI am a confident, capable, walking, talking, learning machine - and I practice total self reliance every chance I get. Even if somethingâs tough, I can probably do it. Even if something is new to me, I can probably figure it out. Or maybe just google it.â Whether you think youâre confident or not, you have a quiet type in work where you know you will manage things. This is a self starter energy that doesnât run away. Do you know some people get afraid at the idea of working at a different branch or with a team that isnât their usual? I feel like you would walk in there and introduce yourself and get on with it. You can walk into a job needing to learn on the go, and you wouldnât bother colleagues as much as they think a new hire would.
Good luck, I see a positive unexpected opportunity that you will be able to go for because youâre still freed up. Itâs going to make you grin.
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
GROUP 3
10 of pentacles, The world. Empowerment, Wait, Let yourself receive.
Thereâs something here regarding timing or travel. Maybe they needed someone asap, but you had a 6 week wait to go. Timing could have just been off. Perhaps there was time between jobs or roles that they didnât like. Maybe there was a need to travel when you were asking for remote work and they werenât willing to give it. Another possibility is you didnât seem enthusiastic about their desire to hop from site to site, or travel for a longer period of time for a project or course.
Empowerment makes me think you told them about a boundary or limit, but they werenât willing to shift, compromise or allow. I get a very stubborn energy from the employer/interviewers side. If they were really immature, they could have noticed if you werenât very early. Maybe you were right on time or a little bit late for the interview. I feel like you had a lot of good qualities that they were looking for, but it was more the practical aspects of things that got in the way.
I honestly donât see anything too deep. I think you did a very good job in the interview or discussions you had. I think youâre able to stand up for yourself and refuse to give more than you can. I think you have a good head on your shoulders. You deserve a better role or placement that gives you more in return for what you do.
The cards that you have on your side to show next time in an opportunity are risks, and enthusiasm.
Risks says â I take big risks and leap into the unknown with fearless abandon, knowing that the best surprises and richest experiences come from bold choices. Worst case scenario? The unknown is filled with spiders and they swarm me and eat me and decorate their spider cave with my bones. But what are the chances.â
Enthusiasm says âWhen I have to make a spreadsheet, sit in a long meeting with no coffee, or do anything else I donât like, I dig deep and find a way to be enthusiastic about it. The difference between having to do something and getting to do something is all in my perspective.â
So the cards are overall saying bide your time for better results, the right place will accept what limits you genuinely have, and there can definitely be a fair give and take for you. There is patience needed though.

You're No Good For Me
Tommy Shelby x OC Satine
Summary: When Tommy comes into possession of a new club, the Shelbys want to know more about the beautiful and seductive performer working there. What happens when Tommy confronts her about her hidden past?
Authorâs Note: Requested by @goodnightkatherine who wanted to see Tommy with a jazz singer men are obsessed with.
Warnings: language, mention of drinking, violence, possessiveness, hints of dark!Tommy, PTSD, mention of a weapon
âBloody hell, the tits on her! Didnât I tell ya?â Arthur asked, a wicked smirk curling around the edges of his whisky glass. His eyes never left the stage where a voluptuous ginger haired beauty leaned over the crowd. As her gloved hand seductively slid along the curve of her hip, a slight shudder ran through Arthur. He shifted in his chair, adjusting his trousers just as her ruby lips parted once more and she purred the last line of a lovesick ballad into a golden microphone.
âTheyâve got a little perch for her up in the rafters and she swings on it like a bird. Last night she even did an act with red silks where she tied herself-â Finn started, excitedly.
âAlright, thatâs enough,â Arthur cut him off. âShouldnât he be working the door?â he rolled his eyes toward the table, irritation visible in his clenched fist.
Tommy leaned back in his chair, studying the effect she had on his brothers and every other man in the club. âGo on, Finn,â he ordered with a jerk of his chin.
As the number came to an end, he placed his cigarette between his lips and clapped stiffly, the deafening noise drowning out the huff of a laugh that escaped before an honest assessment. âSo this is why you want to stay in London, eh?â
âS right,â Arthur affirmed eagerly as he poured another round. âYou need someone to keep an eye here.â
âOn the club, Arthur,â Tommy reminded his brother with a sharp note of warning.
âAnd sheâs part of it, ainât she?â Arthur grumbled.
Tommy shook his head warily, âRemember what dad used to say, brother. Fast womenâŚâ
âAnd slow horsesâŚâ, Arthur interjected with a dismissive wave of his hand. âI know, I know, Tom!â
Tommy held Arthurâs gaze for a moment as he finished bitterly, âWill ruin your life.â He stamped out his cigarette in the ashtray, glancing back toward the empty stage. âIâve things to do first, then Iâll give you my answer,â he replied, abruptly ending their conversation.
âGo on then. Donât let me keep ya,â Arthur bellowed with a sweep of his arm. Allowing the king to exit in grand fashion, he remained at the table unwilling to allow his baby brother to spoil his evening or his plans for the future.
âââââââââââ-
The passageways beneath the stage were dark and winding, causing Tommyâs chest to constrict unnaturally. It didnât bother him when there was chatter from the girls, but now it had become eerily silent save for the rush of blood through his ears. Tommy made haste to the dressing rooms, forcing his boots to thud upon the concrete floor a bit harder than necessary.
Soon he came upon the room he sought, breathing a sigh of relief at the glow of pale orange light seeping from beneath the door like an outstretched hand saving him from the smothering darkness. Like a beacon it called to him and he pushed the flimsy panel open without knocking, any pretense of formality forgotten.Â
âI need to speak with you,â he informed the woman sat at the vanity. The redhead looked up with a look of bored detachment, powdering her nose as she raised her eyes to meet his in the mirror.
âCan I help you?â she asked with a foreign lilt he immediately recognized as French.
âYou donât know who I am, do you?â he asked incredulously.
âAre you an admirer?â she asked with a sly smile. Tommy cocked an eyebrow at her, but she only giggled in return. âI have many of those.â
âNo, love, Iâm not here to throw roses at your feet,â he confirmed.Â
âThatâs a pity. I like roses,â she pouted.Â
âSo Iâve heard from your previous employer, but thereâs going to be a new arrangement. You see, as of last week, I own this club,â Tommy informed her as he clasped his hands behind his back.
She turned slowly to face him, head tilted to catch a glimpse of his shadowed face beneath his cap. âAre you here to fuck me?â she offered breathlessly.
Tommy shook his head. âNo, nothing like that," he assured her, removing his cap slowly and placing it on a nearby chair.
âThen this job will be easier than I expected,â she purred, standing to her full height. She was easily a foot taller than Tommy and she carried it with a casual elegance.
âWhatâs your name?â he asked, fishing his cigarette case from his pocket and turning it over in his palm.
âSatine,â she replied without hesitation, a smirk playing on her lips mischievously.
Tommy laughed mirthlessly, the sharp note of annoyance clear as he rolled his eyes. He took a moment to light his cigarette, the flame of his lighter flashing in her cat like eyes. âYour real name,â he pressed in a low, dangerous voice, taking a step closer to where she now stood.
In such close proximity she was able to scan the details of his face, pale skin still youthfully freckled but the sunken cheeks and dark circles beneath his eyes bore the passage of time. She looked away before he could glimpse the recognition hidden in her gaze, but sheâd already lingered a moment too long.
Tommy seized on it immediately. âYou think I donât know you behind a few rhinestones and hair lacquer,â he taunted, exhaling a large plume of smoke toward her. Leaning in to capture her face in the palm of his callused hand he hissed, âSay your fucking name.â
She tried not to recoil, but the tight lipped smile that tugged at her mouth gave away her discomfort. âWhy do you need this?â she asked, jerking her chin away in defiance.Â
âCos I want you to admit what you are...what you did,â Tommy spat, hand flying to her delicate neck as he forced her against the opposite wall.Â
Red nails clawing against his wrist, Satine shook her head. âI-I did nothingâŚâ she sputtered.
âYeah, you did nothing," Tommy nodded in agreement as he emphasized the last word. "Left me for dead," he seethed, tightening his hold until she was left gasping for air before him.
Her eyes welled with tears as they had that final night spent together, tucked away in her tiny flat making promises of a life together after the war. Back then he didnât care that she fucked Barney first, knowing he would be her last. Sheâd promised him sheâd be his forever. She said, "I'll wait through any storm to be by your side."
It was that thought alone that drove him to dig after the tunnel collapse, clawing his way from the depths of the blackened earth to seek her embrace. There was nothing but emptiness waiting in her flat, however, the neighbor apologizing with sorrowful eyes when forced to recount the man come to collect her. For the better part of a year, he chased a ghost before returning home to Birmingham alone.
As the memories washed over him in quick succession, Tommy allowed the rage to consume him. He watched her head loll and her eyes roll back in the moment before losing consciousness. A low whimper from her pulled him out of himself, the intoxicating sound of her causing his hands to shake uncontrollably. With that, he released his grasp and backed away to the center of the room as nausea gripped him.
Satine fell forward clutching her chest, a coughing fit descending upon her as she struggled for breath. âT-tommy,â her desperate voice called out. The sound echoed around him like the beating of the shovels inside his skull and he turned away clutching his head.Â
âYouâre no good for me,â he reminded himself as he screwed his eyes shut. But I want you still, his tortured mind replied, fingers fumbling beneath his jacket for the cold comfort of his revolver...a decision to be made.

In your baron konig au, do you ever see reader noticing his language insecurity and trying to learn his native tongue from his other workers?
Thank you so much for this ask, it gives me a chance to write fluff! It's definitely one of the ways I see them getting closer, because it shows her not just wanting to understand him, but those around her. Most of Konig's staff are from home, either coming over originally with him or when he makes one of his few trips back home.
Fair warning, this is going to contain some Google translate as well as future pieces most likely, native speakers please correct me on what I get wrong!
âOh, good morning, my lord!â She bends slightly at the waist, a light bow to Konig as she met him where the staircase joined to the upper left wing of the barony. Standing upright at his nod of acknowledgement, her head turns as he swiftly strode down the hall and took in his frazzled state. In one arm he clasped several stacks of documents to his chest, paper developing light creases where his large fingers exerted too much pressure even through the thick paper. In the other he awkwardly gripped some quills, an inkpot, and the stamp bearing his familial crest. Having to go in the same direction, she saw as he almost dropped a quill then bent it with the force of him stopping it falling to the ground. It beat the alternative of him having to stoop all the way to the ground to recover it, she supposes. âUm, my lord?â She calls to him. His feet came to a stop, head turning slightly, eyes as cool as the outside air locking on her, a faint blue like ice water making her breath hitch at how it locks onto her. âMay I be of assistance in carrying something for you?â After a few moments of silent staring she almost took back the suggestion out of embarrassment, a massive man of his stature surely does not need help from a maid- âFedern.â She blinks, unsure if she heard correctly. He clears his throat before repeating himself. âCarry quills. And ink.â He held out his hand and she quickly makes up the distance between them (curse his long strides), taking the objects in her hands, fighting the urge to shiver when their fingers brush. Just like the previous times, his hands were so warm and firm.
They walk in silence down the halls, stopping at the front of the library, intricately carved oak doors barring entry. As he turns the handle she swallows, mind flashing back for a moment to her last time in the library in the duchy. With any luck, the memory would continue to fade the longer she worked here, each time she cleaned the room wiping away the bitterness with the dust and incense ash. Though, she thinks, I canât forget everything that occurred in that place. Just a fortnight prior it had been confirmed that yes, she was indeed carrying a Dukeâs child, not that he would ever know. Her saving grace had been that she was not yet showing, the reduction of stress and ability to hold down food courtesy of Annika helping her regain some of the lost weight, no longer wan and sunken inwards. She hadnât anticipated telling the head maid of her condition, at least not yet, but she hadnât a choice when she was caught leaning against a wall fighting off a dizzy spell at the end of the day. Good fortune then that much like her employer, her superior was of a better cut, keeping the news tucked to her chest with little more than a chastisement of letting her know of any changes to her condition and an order to have a quick, light meal of gently seasoned soup from the cooks before heading to bed.
She places the writing set down on the table he had chosen to work at before commencing her own tasks of dusting the books and wiping down the wooden furniture, eyes briefly glancing at the papers as he set about placing the stacks in some order that made sense to him. They were written in that foreign language she saw scrawled across the spines of the novels, most of the letters making sense to her but combined in a way that was confusing, lengthy words packed with consonants and vowels, dots pocked sparingly in some places. She wishes she could read them, understand the different stories that came with the Baron from his homeland.
As she works her way along the shelves, she canât help but take a few peeks at him, immersed in his tasks while hunched over his work in a way that makes her back ache. The air is mostly silent apart from the scratch of a quill and the gentle squeaking of a damp cloth. Shortly after though, a faint humming permeates the study, a tune she had grown familiar with in the month since her arrival. Konig was fond of this tune, singing the melody like he had no clue he was doing it, part of his routine when tackling paperwork. He had told her the name of the tune, accent making quick work of it, though she struggled to repeat it to herself.
Eye Popeeyah, she vaguely recalled, certain it was something like that. Gently wetting a spot on a plush chair, she waits for the tea stain to lift herself as she chances another look at the baron. He never notices when her eyes stray from the upholstery and she wonders if he even feels her eyes on him. Heâs a shy man, sheâs come to learn, content to keep himself tucked away from others. Perhaps he feels peopleâs gaze on him even when there is no one to stare, and so he doesnât register her. Perhaps she is so beneath him that he doesnât register her presence at all. Certainly not in the same manner as Duke MacTavish, she chews the inside of her cheek as she wrings out the washcloth and wipes the stain away, hands working at the spot even when gone as she unknowingly rests her eyes on him.
No, the Baron is not that kind of man. âHirsch?â She jumps, jolted from her thoughts, Konig staring seemingly down to the core of her. Her blood pools in her cheeks and she feels her face become hot. She could die of embarrassment at being caught staring, much less at her employer! She canât even tell what his expression is with his shroud in place, leaving her further off-kilter. âApologies, my lord! My thoughts ran from me, Iâll get back to work now.â With a ducked head she averts her eyes from both Konig and the large damp patch her mindless scrubbing caused the poor chair. Unfortunately, the next shelf to clean is the one directly behind him, so she grabs her duster and rags and makes her way over. He hunches in further, trying to scoot in to give her room but ultimately there is nowhere for him to go, shoulders pulled up to his ears to make himself smaller. His grip on his quill is tight, and the papers crinkle under his free hand as he writes, more akin to forcing the ink in than letting the quill do the work, and the humming has stopped, replaced with heavy silence only interspersed with more scratching and the occasional grumble. She feels guilt over it, how her presence in his home forces him into these uncomfortable positions. Itâs doubtful he wore the hood even at home before she came, and now here he is forced to curl up to avoid them touching.
Even still, as she makes her way along the shelves, the heat radiating off him permeates her dress, a welcome sensation compared to the bitter winter outside, the frost outside sharp enough to stop the maids from cleaning the windows lest the water freeze on the panes. Not that he or Annika would let any of them go cold, providing them extra bedding and thicker clothes as the cold crept along the floorboards. The rumors from other maids had been correct, that while the Baron might come across as strange and off-putting to some, he took good care of those who worked for him. It makes the guilt inside her grow.
This man has been so kind to her already, and here she is making him feel like an outsider. Forcing him to repeat himself in stilted English for her sake because itâs the only language she knows. He has always held himself in a stern and awkward manner whenever they cross paths, but she sees his discomfort grow when trying to string together conversation with the few visitors to the barony. She wishes she could speak freely with him and ease that stress a little, make him and the other maids not view her as something to be wary of. Just the other day she had come across two of the maids giggling and speaking in hushed whispers, the conversation so quick she couldnât make out much more than the occasional exclamations and snickers. Once they realized she was there though, they had startled in much the same way as the baron did, standing stiff with wide eyes before carrying on with their tasks. She tried to reassure herself they hadnât been gossiping about her, there was always a rumor of some drama occurring in town, but it was hard. It reminded her that she had no one she was close to here, no one to confide in about anything she saw that would set tongues wagging and eyes gawking. âWhat language is this?â She was behind him again, this time gently removing the dust from the tops of the books that hadnât seen much attention. Konig jumps, spooked by the sudden voice behind him, chair making a sound of protest as his upper back gently bumps into hers. Taking a moment to calm himself, he sets aside the letter with a harsh line of ink over the surface and frowns down at how it continued onto the table. âWas?â He asks, turning to look over his shoulder. She keeps her face turned to the bookshelf, hands fiddling with her rag once more. âThe language you all speak. Itâs the one from your homeland, yes?â An answering grunt is all she receives. âI wanted to know which one it was. There are so many books here in the library not in English, and I would like to read them once my work is finished. And-and I would like to be able to speak with the other maids, to greet them as they greet one another, or not require you to have to repeat yourself when giving instruction. I donât want to impose on them or on you, Iâve seen the frustration with having to translate conversations when out in town.â She canât help herself, having turned around and now locked in a staring match with him, feeling like a mouse surveilled by a wolf, the words tumbling free of her mouth. Her ears feel like theyâre burning, hands, twisting the rag around her fingers. âI would ask Felix or Annika, but theyâve so many responsibilities and I would hate to take up their free time. I would use the novels themselves, but I donât know all of the letters, they look similar but then there are these dots-â âUmlaut.â He cuts her off, eyes giving a slow blink. âWhat is it?â âThe dots. They are called umlaut.â He explains. âUmlaut.â She tries testing the word in her mouth. When he nods, she canât help her smile, pleased at getting it right. âOff days?â He asks in his typical manner, and she works to figure out what heâs asking. âAnnika has me scheduled off on Wednesdays and Thursdays, my lord.â He nods again, mulling something over. âCome to my office then. I will teach you.â She hears the drag on the âYouâre so busy though my lord, I wouldnât want to interrupt your work-â A gloved hand gently reaches up, thumb and middle finger pressing lightly on her cheeks to stop her from rambling a second time. âWednesday and Thursdayâ He repeats, accent showing on the 'and', Â âand the days you clean the office.â
He releases her when she nods, finishing his final document and reorganizing them while she blinks. She would take great care to follow his lessons, she just hopes he will be patient with her. As she prepares to start on the final task of restocking the fireplace and taking cups to the kitchen, she pauses. âMy lord?â He stops stacking papers, watching her from the side. âThank you for this. If I may though, could you teach me one phrase before you go?â She fights the urge to beam when he taps the seat in front of him. (The next morning, she gives in to the urge when she greets the other early morning maids at breakfast with a nervous and stilted âGuten Morgen, wie gehtâs?â and is met with excitement and smiles.) Translations: Federn - Quill Hirscht - Deer Guten Morgen, wie geht's - good morning, how are you
