#song of the day#yesterday was '99' by Elliot Moss but only briefly! I was too distracted by plumbing woes#plumbing all fixed now and I'm very relieved#plumber not only fixed our drain problems but also very casually on his way out told us he'd corrected the hot-cold attachments too#a great gift all unasked-for. we've been having to turn the damn knob backwards for years#anyway I love singing this song. to be completely honest I don't /agree/ with it I don't care much for deciding-not-to-decide#but it's such a quick clever fun rundown of a song#'he's a very smart prince / he's a prince who prepares / knowing this time I'd run from him / he spread pitch on the stairs#I was caught unawares / and I thought well he cares / this is more than just malice#better stop and take stock / while you're standing here stuck / on the steps of the palace'#minor point of pride for me I did type that from memory at speed and I only got a couple mangled 'the' typos. 'hte' why do you haunt me#anyway I love Sondheim. I love the quick sharpness and the assonance and alliteration and how his stories fold back on themselves#excellent song. excellent play. what a delight

Hey, I love any excuse to talk about being gay and happy! Congrats on being newly married! I dunno, my advice is always really straightforward. Like. Keep prioritizing communication, keep talking to each other about your day, your headspace, the stuff you love, the stuff that freaks you out. Keep that line open no matter how long you're together, because I really do think marriages fall apart when you start just assuming you can read one another's minds. My wife and I are always really careful to be honest with one another; for example, in the event that one of us is having a bad day and the other person's jokes aren't landing, 'cuz we're just sensitive that day, we talk about it. it soothes hurt feelings before they can really take root.
And find ways of making your own fun. Try new foods together, travel if you're into that, remind yourself that intimacy (if that's your bag) is an excuse to just play with one another and learn about the other person. Cherish the comfort of knowing your person is there for you no matter what, make sure you're on equal footing together, make sure you're allowing each other the space to change and grow and learn. And just take as much joy as you can out of being in love. It's not an easy thing, living in the world right now, but love makes it a damn sight more bearable. Queer love is awesome, queer joy is awesome. I wish you all the best, friend.

there's this lady on whatever fucking reels app who just constantly posts her ill behaved stallion and acts like everyone criticizing her for breeding something with a shit temperament is just jealous instead of correct. yeah you're so cool for letting your stallion be stressed and rear and bite and act like a dumb shit every time he sees a mare
and i know i don't have room to talk because winnie is a behavioral mess but with her i confirmed that her issues were neglect and a lack of proper desensitization (doesn't know how to self regulate) & felt confident that with proper handling she would be a different animal —supported by her night and day difference in behavior since my getting her (no longer needs a chain for routine handling & EVERYONE who knew her when i got her comments on how she's improved) — but that stallion has NO excuse. he should have been gelded ages ago for everyone's safety. instead she keeps profiting off bad horsemanship and people eat it up
#i'm sure he'd make a fine gelding#but that thing shouldn't have balls#certainly shouldn't have offspring#posts that only matter to me but i am me and this is my space so#im aware of my hypocrisy but im also aware that winnie's offspring are solid citizens#and all her siblings and their progeny are similarly excellent#two of her fillies are lovely jumping horses#one of them made for a nice hunter! i think the gray was trained more for jumpers#no clue what happened to her colt as the breeder hasn't posted anything about him that i can see#but both her fillies are great little creatures#and winnie WANTS to be good so badly - she's just scared and still learning the tools to be okay#i'm taking every step i can to ensure penny's off to a better start#including taking her to a couple shows this year to just hang out and get that exposure#no way am i raising another horse that can't stand in a trailer for five minutes without trying to hop a panel#yes winnie is in many ways a disaster but that's more reflective of her upbringing than her actual brain#she's better every year#just needed consistency

one of my old students from korea keeps telling her mom she misses me and saying she wants to talk to me and this happens to be the only mom i exchanged contact info with so she just messaged me telling me how much her daughter misses me and asked if we can video call and im fine with video calling but i have a feeling it may be a prelude to asking me to do video english lessons and im kinda 50/50 on how i would respond to that
#like on the one hand i love this kid she was an excellent student and her mom was always super nice to me as well#and i would not say no to some extra money for a couple of video calls per week where we chat and talk books or whatever#she is also starting first grade in the spring which is what makes me think her mom might bring it up and being in first grade is such a#peak time for reading and i have so many things i can recommend her#but also since leaving korea i have realized how underqualified i was for the job of 'english teacher' and indeed how underqualified most#are for it. and idk if i want the pressure and responsibility of being her english teacher again#like rn if i went back to korea i would hit up the mom and we'd all meet up for parfait or smth and it would be cool#i want to be able to do that whenever i visit korea#if i do a bad job as her long distance english teacher i worry we wont be able to hang like that#t
