Hey so you know Sunless Skies. Are you aware of the secret fourth Ambition? If so, there's something about it which haunts my dreams and has for years, and I need to spread the brainrot. i am indeed aware of it!!! i'm planning on pursuing it once i finish my current ambition in my current (and first) playthrough (the truth. i'm doing the truth as my very first ambition. because i apparently love to suffer and simply cannot do things by halves.)

wanted to share the sentiment here too but didn't feel like rewriting the whole thing lmao so here are some Thoughts i had last night on twt regarding my weird relationship with my art whilst being in fandom:

i know i've definitely talked about this kind of thing in the past but it's been a very recent development that i actually understand what's been going on with me and why i've picked up this habit of letting a fandom i'm in / a piece of media i'm really into fully dictate my creative drive. like, just because i'm very interested or invested in something, it doesn't mean i necessarily feel inspired by it or inspired by it for the duration that it holds my interest, and forcing myself to create relative art or fic or what have you for the vested interest(s) has both dampened my desire to be creative as well as my imagination. i know a lot of people can be super into something or a few random things at once and that can keep them going for ages without them running out of ideas, but in my case, things that hold my interest aren't always synonymous with my creativity and i'm just now learning that despite how obvious it seems!

i also imagine i'm not the only person who functions like this but i personally haven't seen it spoken about very often (if it even needs to idk), so i wanted to bring it up / talk about it a little bit :)

you know i never had end of summer/ back to school dread as a kid/ student but fuck as an adult this shit sucks. it's not even like i didn't have work over the summer! i just wfh in summers and i do NOT want to deal with people or the office or needing to wear things other than yoga pants and comfy t shirts. or dealing with the long periods of time where i have nothing to do but have to be there anyway so have to find a way to make myself look busy ><

I feel like I truly just live for my friends and the people in my life and I can't describe it super well in words right now but ahh just the aching and yearning I have for my friends they are the world to me and I wouldn't be the same without each of them.

I think I often find myself wanting more in friendships (I mean like hanging out/talking more or as much as possible, psychical affection like hugging and stuff if we don't really do that very much and they're not against it, etc) but I won't usually be the one to initiate anything like that because I can never tell where I stand with people cause I'm bad at reading people plus I'm just anxious/insecure whatever in general so I will be super doubtful all the time so like 1) I don't want to pressure people, 2) if someone else is the one to initiate that kinda stuff it feels way more genuine to me because I know I'm not forcing anything, 3) sometimes I think I care so deeply about people that it would be impossible for anyone to care about me the same way

But the author’s actually really good at keeping the characters 1 feeling like human beings and 2 capturing the original feeling of the characters even when the au goes in a wildly different direction than cannon does.

I keep thinking of my step sisters and I can't stop crying knowing my dad is probably doing something to them the same way he did to me and it's eating at my heart tbh I could barely focus on writing

Sonic

We all know Sonic has massive amounts of energy, seemingly never running out of it. He isn't really a night owl type of guy, nor does he ever want to be, but when he met you, that changed. You were the complete opposite of him, always tired, staying up late, always drinking coffee etc. He didn't mind at first, but your unhealthy habits scared him greatly; you crashing out in the middle of the day was the thing that scared him the most, the way your energy turned down so fast was enough to get Sonic on the internet to try and fine some kind of help for you. He knew there were many healthy ways to get you to follow a routine. Sonic tried giving you melatonin, it worked for a few months, but it strung you out fast and you needed more to be able to sleep properly, he tried getting you some tea, but those smelled and tasted to bad you'd puke it all up.

It felt hopeless, but he didn't wanna give up helping you. You meant too much to him, you were such a nice person, yet you had the worst problems. He didn't understand it, but that didn't stop him from helping you. "Hey! [Name], let's go for a race! Whoever loses has to buy us a chili dog" he'd try to tire you out, cut your screen time and do as much as he possibly can to help you sleep. It broke sonics heart to see you so tired and strung out all day, he doesn't want to intrude too much, but he'd do anything to see you in a happy state. Besides all the chaos, Sonic doesn't mind your attitude much. He finds it kind of funny when he sees you almost falling asleep on your desk while studying.

Overall, Sonic doesn't mind it too much but he still worries daily about you, about your health. No matter what, he'll stay by your side though. He finds it fun to stay with you during the day, your calm demeanor (maybe a side effect) is like a refreshment for him, but the sudden mood swings and headaches you complain about will always bring his worry back to bloom all over again

Shadow

Shadow is also a night owl! The sun is too blinding for his brooding behavior, he'd rather watch it fall and the moon come up to greet his cold demeanor once more. He's the ultimate lifeform so he doesn't need sleep that bad, but since you're a mortal you obviously need sleep. He finds this out a few weeks into your relationship (platonic or romantic) Since he's so stubborn, he gives you an ultimatum: "It's either you sleep or you sleep on the couch" that worked for a day or two, but your bad sleeping habits, caffeine addiction, etc. Would always lull you back into staying awake doing whatever you wanted, it was your alone time. He wouldn't take that away, Shadow understands what it's like wanting to have some alone time... But he still knew how harmful this was for you

Shadow started switching your coffee with decaffeinated alternatives. The first few nights were the most rough, your body was still getting used to and adjusting to this new schedule, which helped greatly! Instead of trying to use medicines or tiring you out, Shadow tries discrete methods and ways to get you to practice better habits. Shadow doesn't believe in naps, he sees them as the average way to ruin your sleep schedule. When he sees how many small naps you take just to function, it makes him worried knowing you're so tired all the time. He sees the way you strain yourself everyday, every passing second of the day. Shadow tries his best to help you, he really does. Shadow isn't the best at communication, so he doesn't see that as an option. That won't stop him from helping a loved one, Shadow isn't a very open person, but his past trauma makes his overbearing nature show easily. If overbearing helps you sleep easy, he'll stay that way

adhd hyperfocus/'creative flow' ✔️ - wrt computer games, programming, writing, playing music, doing maths etc. - absolutely great when you can figure out how to activate it. very unpredictable. does not always fixate on what 'you' (see: mild plurality question) would want it to, so it's not exactly a superpower. but tbh the things that activate this are what my life revolves around.

social connection ✔️ & loneliness ✔️ - the last few years prior to moving here I was very isolated, and my landing in Glasgow was kind of rocky. the contrast makes it really noticeable how much an evening with friends will change my mood and feelings about the world. not having enough irl social contact reliably leads to....

getting really neurotic about stuff/emotional flashbacks ✔️ - a frequently recurring state of mind, and sadly not a fun one. much more likely to end up here with ssri withdrawal. recognising it as a state of mind is helpful though because i can then think about what activates it/how to transition to another state

movement ✔️ - cycling, flying a glider (years ago now), going on one of those fairground rides that spin you around really fast, dancing, roller skating, tai chi - it feels really good to move, and be in control of that movement through space, to tie it to other stimuli such as music, etc etc. movement in a virtual space is pretty good if the interaction is sufficiently textured, but irl movement hits more of your senses including your physical sense of acceleration/proprioception, and is thus more powerful.

encountering art ✔️- this covers so much. but think of 'getting lost in' a book or 'getting really absorbed in' a film. for a time you are caught up in a flow of emotions and connections driven by the provocative thing you are encountering. this is a big reason why we do it, after all.

intense fever ✔️- illness can be a pretty intense drug (c.f. 18ft leash - scouts honour)! it's funny to talk about 'being high on covid' but the analogy is there, thanks @cean-untitled for pointing out the analogy. since you don't get to choose when you go on it or prepare in the same sort of ritualistic way and your body is usually in a bad way at the time, the results are often less fun, but can still be pretty dramatic and powerful.

sleep ✔️ fatigue ✔️- as xkcd put it, to 'go comatose for a few hours and hallucinate vividly'; fatigue is also a common and very abruptly arriving state of mind these days.

🧅- definitely in the “only gets emotional under very rare circumstances” category. jimmy doesn’t cry much. i think he’s the type to get emotional when he’s feeling Especially vulnerable during sex tbh. like when it crosses from just a fuck into a real intimate emotional connection he’ll hide his face and shed tears. also if he gets drunk and he’s in a certain mood, he’ll cry about his childhood. ive actually imagined like, being out with him and witnessing a dad abuse his son but not being able to intervene, and going back to his apartment where he gets really drunk and has an apocalyptic screaming breakdown, yeah he got triggered really bad.

🍌- you know something ive been reluctant to dive really deep into but have had kicking around at the back of my mind is undiagnosed neurodivergent jimmy. like, undiagnosed adhd at least but i meannn as an autistic myself, yknow i mean i like projecting but idk how well it fits… i kind of want to say yes to being against the Big Light though. the lights being off all the time never bothered him as a kid cause it was overstimulating when they were on. as an adult with his own place he has carried on the habit of keeping the overhead lights off, he tells himself its to save power but its also just grating and uncomfortable for him underneath that. (he doesn’t. really have lamps though. #malelivingspace he has one in his bedroom but if he’s hanging out in his living room watching tv he’s literally just in a dark cave with the tv flashing in the room as the only light.)

Normally I would probably not bother with responding at all. It is a bit of a personal thing after all. Buuuut

SYoNR is going to be late again due to said health issues, so I might as well talk a little bit about it. Sorry guys!

At least it's bigbang release now and until march, so it's not like there's a shortage on amazing fics to read.

Anyway.

I'm not going to list all of my problems. That would take forever. I will list the ones I'm currently having the most problems with though.

Fibromyalgia; undiagnosed, but basically every woman on my mom's family has it. The only reason I'm not officially diagnosed is because the process is dreadful and take forever and tbh I can't really do much except what I'm already doing to lessen it.

Fibro alone does a lot; I'm always in pain, always tired, my pain tolerance is shit and my limbs often go numb. The pain is worsened by my job, which is known for causing issues for shoulders, back, elbows, wrists and allll the way to my fingertips.

It also often leads to headaches, difficulties with sleep and a bunch of other fun TMI health issues.

So! Why is this week's chapter most likely late?

Tired. Exhausted. Fatigue.

Hurt. Pain. Ouch! Specifically my left elbow is fucking me up lately, as well as neck pain.

had a headache for 3 days straight and only now do I feel human

The sunlight we have had lately has helped my mood and I've been able to write thanks to it, just very slowly. It's my body that's the culprit! *shakes fist* but yeah I would put most of the blame on fibro.

Other than that, I got autism, adhd and everything that comes with it. Also extreme social anxiety (v funny, as I'm a very social person) which is also the reason I got a dog (without a dog, I didn't leave my home if at all possible)

The anxiety used to be bad enough that I was almost diagnosed with agoraphobia. Which, hey, my grandma had! Genes strike again? But it's become much better lately, and I only regress sometimes. The irony here is that me calling for pizza delivery means I'm doing ok anxiety wise, less okay due to fatigue.

syonr readers may notice I'm putting all my pain on Shen Yuan. It's nothing personal baby boy, I'm only giving you the pain I know how to describe <3

as I said, there's more than all of this, but these are the "big things" I would say most often interfere for me. Especially winter times where I live tend to fuck over my fibro. I have less problems with it during warmer seasons.

Who's ur favorite oc to draw and who's ur favorite oc to write?

OOOOOOH this is a good question!!! Now, I’m going to assume this is about my twst oc’s since I never post about my other oc’s on here 😭 otherwise my answers would be different tbh. But I think my favorite to draw switches based on what mood I’m in that day. Obviously Tilly and Arlo are my favorites considering how much I draw them, but honestly the main reason behind that might be that I have their design and shape language down so well at this point that it feels very natural to draw them!! It takes me a bit to get used to drawing a character, and that’s very true for my own oc’s.

To write—hmm, definitely Tilly. He’s just very VERY fun to write, in the sense that I’m able to exaggerate a lot of his actions! I enjoy characters who are always a little whimsical and silly but have actually deep motivations behind them.

…and then outside of my twst oc’s, my favorite character to write is probably my oc Rowyn, who is just a silly elf detective obsessed with ghosts. He is the most adhd character I have ever written and I love his dialogue with my entire heart. Just thought I would include this lmao.

Blades: Rescue related scars. And specifically to Cyberaligned, their shadow play scars are the most prominent scars, but they have several more from their time in the war.

TBH, Cybertronians are genetically asexual and do not have genders. But this is just fun stuff I like to think of for if they were actually humans

Chase: PanAegoromantic or Cupioromantic for RB, but for Cyberaligned it is hard to categorize him within the Aro identity due to lore.

Blades: Homoromantic (aka GAY AS FUC-)

Boulder: Demi-romantic Gay

Sure! Though, I want to preface by saying that I try to make sure I'm very well acquainted with the neurodivergence I plan to add before adding it. I've always had a, "try not to overextend" sort of philosophy, trying to make sure each portrayal is going to be treated well in the narrative before promising it publicly

SO what that means is that this list is incomplete and I plan to add more, as I learn more about how to accurately portray something. Especially important with the more stigmatized disorders on this list-- for example I plan to add NPD once I have a better idea for how to feature it.

C-PTSD

Life in the Clans is VIOLENT. Most, or many, characters are going to end up with symptoms of PTSD, especially the cats who lived through the Plague, TigerClan, the entire Mothermouth Moorland War, and the destruction of the White Hart Woods in particular.

But C-PTSD is something I'm choosing more carefully, if that makes sense, so that it's something I write with 'higher priority' when approaching that particular character.

Birchfall (Human activity and child starvation are his triggers, also visibly unsettled by falling trees)

Brightheart (Dogs and dishonor titles, has recurring nightmares, self-harms through overexertion; refuses to take breaks to punish herself)

There will also be some cats in WindClan who aren't able to eat rabbit, because it triggers memories of poison and causes them to wretch. This causes serious issues for them, because rabbit is the majority of the WindClan diet, especially in winter.
