Max Verstappen starts the delayed Belgian GP sprint race from pole position despite sensational lap from McLaren's Oscar Piastri pushing him close after Lance Stroll hit the barriers
Max Verstappen starts the delayed Belgian GP sprint race from pole position despite sensational lap from McLaren's Oscar Piastri pushing him close, after Lance Stroll hit the barriers By Jonathan McEvoy For Mailonine Updated: 08:07 EDT, 29 July 2023 Max Verstappen will start the delayed sprint race in Belgium today from pole position. The world champion pipped McLaren’s Oscar Piastri by one hundredth of a second in the sprint qualifying, which was itself put back 35 minutes because of the rain that has stalked the entire weekend at the most capricious of venues. Carlos Sainz was third quickest, with the other Ferrari, of Charles Leclerc, fourth. Lando Norris was fifth best for McLaren. The Mercedes pair of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell were virtually nowhere in the final analysis, other than in each other’s way in Q3 on what was by then a near dry track despite damp morning. Hamilton even had to pass Russell to qualify seventh to his junior partner’s 10th, six seconds off the pace and out of sorts. Max Verstappen starts the Belgian Grand Prix Sprint Race on Saturday from pole position   The world champion pipped Oscar Piastri by one hundredth of a second in the qualifying  ‘George went wide at Turn One,’ said Hamilton, who had carried pace for much of the afternoon. ‘I had to back out. It doesn’t help when you are held up at the beginning.’ It was a brilliant performance by Piastri, the 22-year-old Australian rookie. He was told he was 11 milliseconds off what would have been his first pole, albeit in the ‘sprint shootout’ as this qualifying session is termed. ‘Thanks everyone,’ he said. ‘There wasn’t much left in that lap. Probably 11 milliseconds.’ Lance Stroll did not have a great time, crashing into the Rolex hoardings after changing tyres Lance Stroll crashed out during Q2 into the Rolex hoardings. With the delay to qualifying, the sprint itself over 15 laps will be staged at a ludicrously late 5.05pm local time (4.05pm BST) – surely the latest ever start to a European race. Under an arcane rule, there must be a four-and-a-half-hour gap between the start of qualifying and the race. Why? Call me a cynic, but the longer you elongate the days, the more merchandise, and beers and burgers, you can flog. Then F1 can charge more in hosting fees. And a few much-courted souls on the west coast of America can catch it, too. Anyway, eight points go to this afternoon’s winner, down to one point for eighth. The outcome will have no effect on the grid order for tomorrow’s Belgian Grand Prix, which Verstappen will also start from pole. Do Enthusiasts Still Work at HOONIGAN? - The Vivid Truth Episode 3
Tumblr media
In our latest episode of The Vivid Truth Podcast, we sit down with the West Coast Regional Vice President of Hoonigan to chat about car culture, project cars, wheels, and how he got to be an executive at one of the industries leading brands. Hoonigan which original started out as apparel and lifestyle merch for the late Ken Block and his rally team, later became one of the staples in automotive entertainment on YouTube. It was later purchased by the private equity backed Wheel Pros organization. Wheel Pros owns popular brands such as Rotiform, Fuel, Niche, KMC, Black Rhino, American Racing, and many more.
youtube
In the European vehicle space, Rotiform has become one of the most recognized brands starting out with their Lamborghini Gallardo replica cast wheel for VW’s and Audi’s. They later turned this into a major design house creating iconic designs for 1pc and multi-piece wheels that would appear on everything from Subaru’s to Porsche’s, and Lamborghini’s. Here at Vivid Racing we have used Rotiform on some of our Project Cars including the McLaren 12C, Mercedes CLA45, and our Porsche Macan GTS. One of the original brands from MHT before it was acquired by Wheel Pros was Niche. This was one of the early 1pc forged wheel companies who would private label for many different brands based in Southern California. Both our Porsche 997.2 Turbo S and 991 Turbo featured Niche wheels. We even used these on our Lamborghini Gallardo LP-560.

For the off-road market, Fuel Wheels has been the number 1 brand in this space. Fuel is extremely popular on trucks and jeeps. Their UTV line has dominated competition and their big truck forged wheels are well recognized in the South. Their 1 piece cast wheels we have used on our Project Toyota Tundra as well as our Can-Am X3 Max.

The entire Hoonigan team has evolved but its good to see its direction is still being pushed by true enthusiasts!

Trying to sneakily start a questions chain so we can all get to know each-other a bit better in the F1blr univers
Name (or what you want to be called on tumblr)
Where are you from?
Where do you live?
Any pets?
Favorite driver(s) currently on the grid, and why?
Favorite driver(s) not currently on the grid and why?
Favorite romantic driver pairing(s) (e.g. Maxiel, Carlando)
Driver you’re most attracted to physically
Driver whose personality you like best
Favorite driver friendship(s)
Favorite team principal
Favorite team
Least favorite team, if any
Driver(s) you dislike, if any
If you’re a fic writer: if you could only write about one f1 pairing for the rest of your life who are you choosing?
Please send this to 10 (or more!) other F1 tumblr users that you love and want to get to know better 🫶💜
Oh, nice, thanks Jo! 🥰
Laura, but mainly Laria online, which is a combination of my first and middle name.
Spain.
Medium sized city in the south-west of Spain with my sister.
Not really, but my parents have dogs and cats in the bit of farmland they own and I consider them a little bit mine.
Fernando will always be my one true love, he's the reason I first got into F1 in the first place. Always liked Carlos too for obvious reasons (Spanish, duh?) but since I properly got into F1 this season (aka it completely took over my life), I became a huge fan of his too, as well as Lando and Max. I don't mind and support many others but these ones I'm always rooting for.
Idk probably Shumi or Kimi? I'm not the most nostalgic about past drivers but I'm a bit of a Ferrari fan (I know, tragic) and both of them are leyends.
Carlando will always be my number one but I'm truly a multishiper at heart and I really love a lot of different ships, Lestappen, Maxiel, Charlos, Landoscar, Norstappen...and don't even get me started on poly ships 🫣
At this moment in time Lando all the way, closely followed by Charles and Carlos (I know, I'm basic af). Also really like Max too, even though I used to not find him attractive at all.
I find this one hard as we can only know so much and sometimes the lines between their real persona and them as fanfic characters get a bit blurry but I would say Fernando, Lando and Max maybe? Mainly because I think they're the most genuine ones.
Definitely Carlos and Lando, their friendship makes me so soft, I love them! I also really like Max and Daniel and Alex and George.
The only ones I feel I really know and have a formed opinion on are Christian and Toto and between them I have to pick Christian, he's so bitchy and passive aggressive. I can't stand him, I love him.
Ferrari, unfortunately. But I've always had a soft spot for Mclaren as well. I know, kinda contradictory teams but here we are.
I'm kinda always against Mercedes, don't ask me why cause I don't really know, I just really love to hate them sometimes. Also, Alpine, idk, they're french and treated Nando bad so fuck 'em.
I have a few drivers I like to root against but dislike is maybe too much? Idk maybe Checo or Hulk because of sexist comments they've made, or maybe Pierre, he just gives me the ick sometimes.
Wow, this was fun! and long too! Hope someone finds this interesting, thanks again for the tag @jolandax13 🧡❤️

Retro Thursday - Mika Hakkinen’s Helmet
Welcome to #RetroThursday. One day a week dedicated to F1 from past years. Helmets, suits, liveries or tracks with a little more of creativity.
This time, we’ll dedicate it to the 2-time world champion, one of the best Finnish drivers in history, nicknamed "the Flying Finn". Yes, it’s time to remember Mika Hakkinen and his unforgettable and simple-design helmet.
20 wins, 51 podiums, 420 career points, 26 poles and 25 fastest laps. What a driver...
Let me ask you now. What do you want to see next time? Feel free to comment :)

Happy Birthday Scottish Race Car driver Dario Franchitti.
Franchitti was born and raised in Bathgate, West Lothian, he attended Stewart’s Melville in Edinburgh
Dario started off racing carts - and at 11 years old, he won the Scottish Junior Championship. He followed that up with a British Junior Championship in 1985 and 1986. In 1988 won the Scottish Senior Title. From there, he moved on to formula car racing in 1992, where he joined Paul Stewart Racing. That year he was named the McLaren/Autosport Young Driver of the Year. After winning the championship in 1993, Dario moved up and won the British Formula Three Championship in 1994. Dario continued to race in Europe until 1996, where he was sponsored by AMG Racing and drove a Mercedes.
In 1996, Dario progressed to Champ Car racing in the US. After starting off with Hogan Racing, he switched to Team KOOL Green in 1998. In two seasons with Team KOOL Green, he won six races and seven poles. A crash during a practice run limited Dario’s progress for the next two years, only winning one race in 2001. Dario joined the Andretti Green team in the IndyCar Series in 2003. While his first few years were hindered by injury, he still was able to capture a couple of victories in 2004. In May 2007, Dario’s career reached an all-time high as he took home the Indianapolis 500! He also won his first career championship title in a final-race title decider with Scott Dixon. At the end of the season, Franchitti was named as BBC Scotland’s Sports Personality of the Year. In 2008 e went onto Nascar but found it difficult to make an impact and returned to the Indy circuit winning his second title in 2009, gain in a final race championship decider against Dixon and Team Penske’s Ryan Briscoe. He retained the title in 2010 and won his third consecutive and 4th overall title came in 2011.
On 6th October 2013, Franchitti was involved in a serious crash in the Grand Prix of Houston, when his car flew into catch-fencing after contact with the car of Takuma Sato. Franchitti suffered 2 fractured vertebrae, a broken ankle, and a concussion in the crash. Later he would learn that he had forgotten some of his past. A month later, on November 14, Franchitti announced his immediate retirement from motor racing on medical advice; he retired with 31 victories from 265 starts in his American open-wheel racing career, a tally which put him in a tie for ninth on the all-time wins list
The story doesn’t end their though as Dario added an unusual string to his bow in March 2020 he, became an esports champion in a special Legends Trophy race.
The event took part in a virtual race with famous names from across the ages of motorsport took part in a simulated race at Silverstone’s National Circuit. With all the drivers using Brabham BT44s, Franchitti inherited the lead when Juan Pablo Montoya collided with Emanuele Pirro in the first turn, he held the lead for the rest of the race, other drivers included Emerson Fittipaldi and David Brabham.
Franchitti married American actress Ashley Judd in December 2001 at Skibo Castle near Dornoch, they divorced in 2013 and remain on friendly terms.he has has since married Eleanor Robb, an Englishwoman. They have two daughters: Sofia and Valentina.
These days, Dario Franchitti serves in a driver mentor/ coach role with the organisation he raced for in INDYCAR from 2009-2013.
