I Have A New TWST Theory

Warning: There will be spoilers for the end of Black Butler: Book Of Circus. If you do not wish to be spoiled, then look away, dear reader. For those that would like to hear my nonsensical ramblings...

So we all know that Yana Toboso made Black Butler and helped design our lovely boys (and our beloved Meemaw Felmier and Najma), this is nothing new. But have you noticed how much some of the characters look and act like the first stringers? Each of the first stringers (minus Snake) died at the end of BOC, leading me to believe they were somehow reincarnated after Ciel and the Phantomhive servants killed them. Don't believe me?

Look at how some of the characters interact with each other, Cater and Vil especially. Cater looks and acts a lot like Joker, and constantly praises Vil, who acts like Beast. It is also heavily implied that Cater has a crush on Vil, and Joker and Beast were lovers at one point. It wasn't until they started the circus that they split up. While yes, Beast chased Joker for a while, she eventually stopped, realizing it was pointless. Well once they were reincarnated, a part of Beast (Vil) remembered Cater (Joker), and the tables were turned, leading Cater to chase Vil instead.

Ruggie looks and acts a lot like Dagger, even their voices are similar. They also have similar humor.

Deuce has similar morals as Doll, along with that care-free attitude, and even her eye color and build.

Jack and Jumbo are quiet big brother types, and are H U G E. We don't get to see enough of them, but we do get to see that the two are very similar, and will go to any length possible to do what they believe to be the right thing.

Dominic and Wendy are moral compasses, and often take care of grumpier characters. They are also both shorter than other people their age.

Grum and Peter speak for themselves, mostly for my aforementioned points on Dominic/Wendy. They are also both angry at practically everyone, except for the people they decide are worth something to them. Wendy was the only exception, as she was the one person that Peter trusted more than anything, and even loved.

And then we have Snake, the only first stringer that wasn't killed.

After decades of working for Ciel, Snake quietly passed away and was also reborn into Twisted Wonderland. But as who? A white haired orphan boy by the name of Silver, who kept all his memories of the first stringers. After being reunited with the rest of the reincarnated first stringers, he realized none of them had their memories of him, and Snake fell into a depression. Heartbroken, he now spends most of his time sleeping, dreaming of his past life at the circus, hoping that the first stringers' memories will remember each other one day.

Ch205, Spoilers part 2

Ok, so there was a little more than half of the chapter left. Here it is.

Finny throws the two jars and apparently tells the others to run...

...but all of a sudden, Doll grabs a large piece of broken glass (from a broken jar) and has the energy to run and leap over them. (I guess they really don't bother with undergarments with those togas...)

Looks like she's addressing Snake specifically, which makes sense.

She's definitely about to tell him about her death and the deaths of their other first-string members from the circus.

She's holding the broken glass so hard that she's cutting herself, and the blood starts dripping from her hand.

First she talks about her own death, by Sebastian, at our earl's command. Then she talks about Joker and Kelvin. She didn't witness their deaths, but I'll get to that again in a moment.

Then Mey-Rin shooting Peter and Wendy. Then Baldo killing Beast and Dagger. Again, she didn't witness these deaths, but she somehow knows about how they died. At least she seems to know some details? I'm not sure.

Next she mentions that Finny is the one to kill Jumbo.

To her, our earl, Sebastian, Mey-Rin, Finny, and Baldo all seem evil.

Doll might be running out of energy again, because she's leaning against the wall now.

I'd read somewhere around here that Doll wants Snake to help her kill Finny and the rest of the Phantomhive household.

This would be a really good setup for Snake to flashback, since he now has a huge choice to make, like I talked about recently.

It's also possible that Finny flashbacks in order to explain why he joined the earl and to argue for Snake to remain loyal to them, not to Doll and the circus.

Hello! I know this is anonymous, but can you please do the Noah’s Ark Circus crew proposing to/being proposed to by their s/o? Thank you so much for opening the ask box; this news makes me happy.

She’s definitely the one getting proposed to, because despite her boldness in every other aspect, she can hardly seem to spit it out when she’s in love with someone. Of course, if her S/O has been with her for a while, they surely already know how much she adores them. This is one step they’ll have to take… she just is too worried about overstepping her bounds with big commitments. Practically as soon as (Name) gets down on one knee, she knows where it’s headed, and her hands fly to her mouth in hopes of controlling the urge to cry. It doesn’t work; she’s sobbing by the time they finally ask her to be their wife. Then she yanks them up to their feet so she can give them a breathless, “Oh, my God, of course!”

He’s probably the one who proposes, but he puts it off. If he can’t get down on one knee for (Name) like is traditional, then he has to find some more spectacular way to do it, doesn’t he? He racks his brain, trying to think of the perfect way, because, well… he really, really does want to spend the rest of his life with them. Every time he looks at them, he’s just overcome with so much love. He could fill a book with poetry about his feelings for them if only he knew how to write. Eventually he ends up sitting with them some night, relaxing and looking at the stars… and says jokingly, “Oi, y’ wanna get married?” He absolutely does not expect that his S/O will say yes, so he’s unprepared enough that he almost starts crying then and there.

Although they’d actually love to be the one being proposed to, it’s more likely they blurt it out in a moment of sheer joy themself. This is one of the few things that they think would make them feel… normal. All the people they see on the street, they’ll get married at some point, right? The rest of society have lovers and get married and make babies and raise a family. (Name) is the only person who’s looked at Freckles with a long-term romantic eye, so Freckles pours all their hopes for domesticity into their loving partner. It’s so out of the blue, not many conversations about it before. It just rolls off their tongue: “Marry me!! C’mon, wot do y’ say? Let’s get married!” Some part of them is prepared to be rejected… but when they’re not? Oh, they’ve got plans.

It could go either way with him, quite honestly. It’s not like he doesn’t want to get married. It’s just, well… it’s complicated. If he loves someone, really, truly, deeply loves them? He wants to give them the choice to back out. He doesn’t want to push and make them feel like they ‘have to’ marry him. Proposing to them makes him feel sort of like he’s putting pressure on them. What are they going to tell him if they don’t want to? Thanks, but no thanks? He doesn’t consider the possibility that they want to be with him forever. If he finally feels confident that they’ll say yes, out of pure love and not out of obligation, he’ll ask them. “I don’t know where m’ life’s goin’, darlin’, not exac’ly… I knoo I want ye in it, though.” He’s stunned when they say yes, and weeps for feeling unconditionally loved and accepted. The circus better get ready, because it’s time for their biggest show yet — a wedding!

There’s positively no way he can approach his S/O about the subject. Not only would he be nervous about being rejected, but, well, also… he’s not… marriage material. He looks at himself with an incredibly critical eye, because he’s had, among other things, rocks thrown at him simply for existing. People have always called him ugly and told him nobody would ever marry him. So, that’s what he believes. That he’s not the kind of person that people marry. Although he’s very happy in the relationship he has with (Name), he doesn’t think it will ever end in marriage. He doesn’t ask about it, and they don’t bring it up until the night they gently tug him down to whisper the question to him. Heartbreakingly enough, his initial reaction is to look at them and ask, “… Are y’ sure y’ wanna marry someone like me?” Once he shakes that a bit, he’s able to verbalize that yes, as long as they’re sure… he’d be proud to be their husband.

Most likely he’s the one who proposes, and it’s almost a guarantee that it happened in the heat of passion. Similarly to Jumbo, he really doesn’t think he’s anyone’s ideal husband — a short, angry, occasionally violent, foul-tempered fellow, does that sound appealing to anyone? Tch! He doesn’t think he’s ever getting married. But on the other hand, he’s viciously protective of his S/O. He’s got a jealous streak wider than the whole of London, so if he’s going to keep anyone from taking them away, it only makes sense that he’d want to marry them at some point. It’s still difficult for him to think about or approach, because he doesn’t want to be thought of as soft despite his desire to not be treated cruelly. It comes out in this frustrated, pent-up tone of, “Oi, precious, y’ wanna marry me ‘r wot?!” His face goes bright red when they say yes, and… he guesses he has some planning to do. Dammit, they didn’t have to answer so quickly!!

There is not a single, solitary, sole way in hell that he would be the one proposing to anyone unless someone was holding a gun to his head to do so. (… Even then…) He’s too skittish, too insecure, too worried about making his S/O uncomfortable. In a vein not unlike Joker’s worries, Snake is concerned that if he marries someone, it will be like ‘trapping’ them with him in a bond meant to be forever. How in the world is he supposed to not fret over that? He can’t do it. Someone marrying him feels to him like he’s somehow tricked them into it, because no sane person would want to marry someone like him. When (Name) pops the question, he stares at them as if he’s about to burst into tears before murmuring, “But… I don’t understand… why would you want to…?” It’s probably devastating to see their darling so confused as to why they want to be with him. Still, when they reiterate that they love him and want to spend their life with him, he manages to nod through his tears. Yes, yes, he’d like that very much.

In all likelihood, she’d wait for her S/O to ask her for her hand. She tries very hard not to be too… forward. She wants to be that stereotypically feminine, quiet, sweet woman, but just as much the desire to want to be that way, she also wants to prove that she can be that way. So many people have basically told her that she’ll never be a ‘proper’ lady, that anything less than being traditional in her behavior will… well, break the illusion, in a way. So while she never lets there be a shortage of assurance that she adores (Name) with all her heart, she wants them to be the one who asks if she’ll be their wife. It makes her feel like she has a wonderful, typical romantic relationship like the one other women have. (Though, she perhaps misses the point that every relationship is unique because every person is unique, and therefore there’s no one ‘typical’ way for a romance to exist.) As soon as she realizes that they’re asking her to marry them, her face lights up. She can hardly wait for them to finish before she bursts into, “Yes!! God, I was wonderin’ when y’ were gonna ask!”

Black Butler: Book of Circus, Wendy —Aesthetic

Wendy's Character & Personality

Wendy grew up starving and underdeveloped in the gutter. Because of this, she's trapped in a child's body. Thus, even though she seems to be one of the youngest circus members, Wendy is actually significantly older than those around her. Unfortunately, her and her act partner's ages are unknown. Wendy is a first-string member of the circus. She's a type of aerialist who specializes in her trapeze act alongside Peter. Wendy is soft-spoken, reserved and usually defers to her partner to do most of the talking. When she does speak, she behaves in a mature manner. Like the other first-string circus members, Wendy is quite concerned about completing the tasks set out to them by Baron Kelvin. She has no problems with kidnapping or murdering individuals while accomplishing these tasks. Wendy deeply cares about the other first-string circus members, perhaps more than Kelvin. Yet, she's most attached to Peter, as she's almost always with him.

What are your headcanons of the Kelvin Siblings celebrating Halloween together?

So they used to celebrate it in their own way three times in three different ways;

One was during while in the East End. Since the rich people better off than them threw parties they weren't able to do much until they found and fell for Doll, so they worked hard to gather money to buy some goodies and Peter surprised everyone when he rolled over a large pumpkin he heavily bargained for from the cart seller but it was worth it when seeing Doll's happy face

Another was during the orphanage where finally went to those parties thrown back then, each one all dressed up and having a blast. They heavily ignored the gossiping whispers about their "behaviors" (aka them chowing down on the snack bar) and certain whispers about their looks (ie Jumbo's height and the ones missing limbs), they only attended and tolerated it all cause Baron Kelvin wanted to show off

And final was during the circus stages, similar to back in the East End they weren't able to do the super rich life's versions but would do it their own way, like dress up and maybe do a Halloween Night Show with some mild trick-or-treating and Doll always gets pumpkins the week of Halloween which always made them smile

Things only got more nostalgic with Snake added later on in which the older ones remanence with the feeling of doing this for Doll

As for now-

After reuniting with Snake Doll would join the Phantomhive Family activates on Halloween. And if this is an AU where everyone's alive/never died then yeah they all joined too

Because Ciel has a soft spot of Doll (he refuses to say that of course) he decided to mix up the traditions of their and his family's to make them all feel more welcome, he would do this for every Holiday tradition too

While in the past they would simply ignore rude comments, the servants would protect their new friends and Doll would have freedom to be all cockney accent angry

Has it been asked if Doll and Snake were friends or acted like family with each other during the circus arc? How much does Doll and Snake know about Baron K., Joker, Beast, and the others being dead? And that Sebastian and Our Ciel being responsible for that? And would either one of them blame Finny for his part?

Doll and Snake asks

Some of these topics have been discussed before, and some of this is depicted in the manga.

1. Doll and Snake were pretty close at the circus, though he didn't know what Doll and the others were up to. Doll was the one who initially reached out to Snake and cared for him, as well as for his snakes. The others might have even been the slightest bit stand-off-ish, but she wasn't at all. Besides Snake, Doll seems to be the only circus member who handles his snakes. This is why Emily associates Doll with a "comforting scent".

2. Snake might not know the others are dead, especially now that he's seen Doll (who is actually also dead). Our earl said the circus troupe was kidnapping children, but he didn't say he was able to track them down, nor did he say any of them attacked the manor. Snake just knows they disappeared after our earl infiltrated them to investigate the missing children. However, he might have ideas about the truth, since he's now had a few glimpses at how our earl and Sebastian deal with adversaries. Out of the first-string members, he's the only one who wasn't involved with kidnapping those kids, so I suspect he doesn't know much about Baron Kelvin. Snake only rose in the ranks so quickly because his act was a crowd pleaser.

Doll is a slightly different story, since our earl says he killed them... just before having Sebastian kill her. She didn't see any of their deaths for herself, but there's no reason for her to not believe they really are dead. And that would include Kelvin and Joker, too, since she confronts our earl right outside Kelvin's burning manor. She knows that Joker had gone there and had probably not already left again, since she didn't cross paths with him on her way. Since Undertaker collected her body from Kelvin's estate and also collected the bodies from Phantomhive Manor -- Beast, Dagger, Peter, Wendy, and Jumbo -- he could have taken cinematic records from them to add to hers. Or he looks at the records that are intact enough and simply tells her how they died. But he probably didn't get to look at the cinematic records for Kelvin, the doctor, and Joker. If he did, would he use their records somehow? Would he tell Doll exactly what Kelvin and the circus doctor did to those poor kids she helped kidnap?

3. Snake only knows for sure that his young master had infiltrated the circus to investigate this case of missing children. Our earl deceived him by making him think they might still be alive and just in hiding. Once he finds out the truth, I expect him to initially blame our earl and Sebastian. But I'm hoping that he also learns the full truth of what those circus members were doing. He might end up wishing he'd never befriended Doll or the others. However, he did say he'd never forgive our earl for whatever happened to them.

Doll fully blames our earl and Sebastian for their deaths (and hers, of course), since she rushed forward to attack them while saying she'd never forgive them (or at least never forgive our earl, since their deaths were ordered by him, and Sebastian and the other servants were merely following orders).

4. It's hard to say what either Doll or Snake would really think about Finny's part in their friends' deaths. They might take into consideration the fact he was just following orders. However, there's so much pent up frustration and anger about it all... that they might take it out on him, simply because was involved and he's there as a representative of our earl.
