Both Wels and X are ghosts possessing their respective armours. Once in a while they swap armours for the funsies and have fun pranking unaware hermits

The different heights can make it interesting. Suddenly Wels' helmet is a head higher, whilst X's constantly bonks his chestplate. But that just adds to the chaos in their non-existent eyes.

Then, after a hard day pranking their fellow hermits, they can both enjoy some incorporeal cuddles.

as i really miss welsuma and wels in particular i've decided to publish something written when wels took a break 3 months ago

so yeah... welsuma

At one point, he just disappeared.

Without warning, without clues to his location, without... Anything. All that was left of Wels is the castle. As before, it was almost completely empty, deserted, but now there was not a single soul in it. The only living there moth that used the castle walls as a shelter from the outside world, letting in only loved ones, shelter from the hustle, ambition, sounds... Most importantly sounds. That moth just disappeared.

And the worst thing for Xisuma was not the fact of the disappearance itself, no matter how strange it may sound, but the fact that Hypno was the first to notice it. Hypno, when no one was responding to the fireworks and horns, suspected something was wrong. Not Xisuma, who was immersed in business at that moment. Someone who just lived closer to the knight than the admin.

The tiles sounded unpleasantly under the feet of the admin. The same unfinished castle, on the roof of which Xisuma looked at the stars every night in almost absolute darkness, again waiting for his beloved. Again, as every night of the past two months, he taps a certain tune, hoping that wherever the moth is, he will hear... He'll feel it.

"I miss you, my knight. My knight in shining armor," Xisuma grinned, returning his gaze to the stars, peering into the outlines of the planets, where his loved one could be, not visible to his gaze, "But I know that one day you will return."

There was a long silence, which Xisuma did not dare to break with words, as if he felt that somewhere in the distance his words were being heard and answered by an important to him, quiet, very gentle and calm voice saying that he would be there soon. He will come back soon, will soon be there to help admin again, will soon let X to take care of him and finally will tell all this mess of thoughts, that was in his head.

"Sooner or later, one way or another... But you'll be back. At least, I hope so. No, I believe so, as you said yourself that it's useless to hope. Therefore, I believe and wait until you tell me what stole you from the castle," the admin quietly concluded his speech, still looking at the sky.

Silence has always attracted Wels. Xisuma wasn't going to interrupt it anymore. At least not tonight.

probably all the art and fics I saw of them ^-^ and having mutuals that are big fans of the ship definitely helps feed into that love of the ship hehe.

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

probably how much fun there is in playing with this ship! there's only a lil amount of cannon interactions to go off of so it's so fun to see all the different takes on their dynamic :D

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

I dont think I have any unpopular opinions on exhels really

1. What made you ship it?

okay well first, I am such a multi shipper and will basically ship xisuma with anyone. but also its 2 of my favourite guys!! :D it only makes sense that I would ship welsuma hehe ^-^

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

I think maybe my favourite aspect of the ship is the fact that they both wear armour and helmets. like it's so fun seeing people play with the intimacy of them taking their armour off around each other <333

1. What made you ship it?

okay again big multi shipper its bound to happen, but also just their dynamic esp6at the start of s10. how do I look at them being petty and silly about the bridge and being neighbours and not ship them /silly ^-^

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

I think it would have to be their silliness and playing into each other's bits. like that one fic apollo ( @/thatapolloguy ) wrote with hypno glitter bombing wels and wels just getting back at hypno by kissing him, and getting glitter on him too! like that silliness is peak and I love it <33

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

maybe I'm just very easy going with my ships cause again I cant think of an unpopular opinion for this ship 😅

Before Wels came to Hermitcraft, he had served many lifetimes as a knight under various rulers. Being vaguely immortal with his set of skills meant he was, most often, a guard of high rank. He’d pledged his fealty and sworn oaths to so many men under gods alike that the memories all started to blur together.

When Wels came to Hermitcraft, he expected nothing more or less from their ruler, Xisuma. Having lived hundreds of lifetimes serving and protecting those above him with his life, the thought of anything different never crossed his mind.

However, Xisuma and his council, known as Hermits, had always been destined into difference.

“Wait, what? No, no, we don’t really do the whole… swearing oaths thing here. You… you don’t have to be my knight, if you don’t want to. You get to do your own thing here!”

Wels believed Xisuma’s kindness to be ignorance at first. Only an arrogant or pure idiotic ruler would turn down the undying loyalty of a knight and this ruler is not arrogant. Despite his doubts, Wels didn’t argue any further; he knew better than to argue with a ruler, however dim or kind they seem to be.

It was a few days after Wels’ arrival that Xisuma visited him. They talked for a long while about where they came from, their remarkably similar devious siblings, their plans for the future, and so much more.

The conversation began to wrap up before Xisuma remembered the gift he had for Wels.

Wels spent that night changing out the plain gold fastenings of his armor’s visor and cape for the inexpertly made yet sentimentally perfect golden sunflowers Xisuma had made for him.

In Achilles and Patroclus footsteps, we see a tragedy repeat

The happier ending:

Wels, cradling the body: can….. can I have a moment alone with him?

Someone: oh I’m- I’m so sorry of course-

Wels, pressing his forehead to the helmet and whispering: I know you’re not dead-

Xisuma: did I get ‘em tho?

Wels: that’s not the point you little shit you gave me a heart attack

They see Wels gently gather Xisumas body into his arms and carry him away, head hung low and no one says a word. They give him space to grieve.

Back at his tent, he wraps the injuries X got in the fight, quiet but his fingers trace circles into the inside of his arm as he gently holds him close.

Wels goes to avenge Patroclus, while refusing to help Xisuma “come back to life”. He’s dead and dead men can’t steal armor and sneak out onto the battle field. He goes to avenge him, because he might not have died but that wasn’t for a lack of trying nor a lack of effort either. And at the end of the war, the two are alive. They get their happy ending, get to live in peace. They settle down, far away from Troy, and begin to watch a new generation of heroes rise and their hearts ache for them. As they see more tragic heroes in the making. It’s a small thing, them taking one in under their wing and teaching him that there is more to a hero than just fighting, to encourage them not to reach to far, not to become another martyr. Another tragedy. Let there be another hero with a happy ending.

Only one becomes two, and two becomes three- and then there’s a little group of would be martyrs and tragedies all together, safe and happy in their own soft epilogues.
