Angela: I need to yell at you but I don’t have time.
Welsey: hmm…I can schedule you in for four tomorrow?
Angela: can’t, I have a meeting at 4:15, I’ll need at least thirty minutes
Wesley: damn okay…well I can pencil you in for Sunday night after the kids go to bed?
Angela: it takes out of dessert time, but if we put the kids to bed early we can make time for our argument, dessert and some fun
Wesley: that works for me.
angela: Great, I can’t wait.

The Naked and the Blind (or The Ballad of Meg Halsey).
Fandom: Re-Animator (Movies - Combs), Herbert West - Reanimator - H.P. Lovecraft.
Pairing: Herbert West/Meg Halsey
Rating: Explicit, or at the very least Mature.
Archive Warnings: Graphic depictions of violence.
Synopsis:
"Meg Halsey had a problem. In fact, she had several problems, the first of which, she acknowledges while looking at her semi empty living room, is that she can't afford to live alone anymore. The second one is that she doesn't wanna go back to her daddy's house again. This would be an inconceivable notion to her thirteen year old self, even her sixteen year old self, but at twenty five, she'd really choose living under the bridge first. Ok. Maybe not that." Meg Halsey is perfect: Beautiful, accomplished, a bright future doctor. She escaped her hometown and moved to New York, where she likely would have stayed forever. After her mother dies, though, she is forced to move back to Arkham and face everything she wanted to leave behind. --- A.K.A I made a tumblr post about how Crampton/Combs are romantically involved in all of their collabs, got replies and decided to write down a suggestion of "what if Meg was the protagonist, not Dan?" Also I did the cop-out summary thing and pasted the first paragraph of the fic. It's highway robbery. Criminal (I'm sorry).
Thanks to @resonanteye and @sugarsweetnightmareee for helping me shape this up in the replies!
Word Count: Multi Chapter, so far 2,561 published, 19,701 written at the time of publication.
Chapter Count: 1/? (likely 9).
AO3 Tags: I uhhh......... I have no idea what I made it started with one tumblr post then one reply and here we are, I included other works by Lovecraft here and rounded Arkham up and then ran, Character Study, In a way, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Alternate Universe - No Dan Cain, he doesn't exist, Danbert shippers cry I get it, Canon-Typical Violence, Animal Death, Eventual Romance, Slow Romance, Slow Burn, Slow Build, Eventual Smut?, maybe? - Freeform, this fic is an affront to god just like herbert's reagent, Not Beta Read.
Language: English.
CW: Meg went through some trauma. Dead parents, dead cat. She also helps kill her dad later on, considering, so. It's a heavy fic, but if you liked the movie you'll be fine.
AO3 link.
AO3 Notes (yes, they're huge, bear with me): This is an AU about Meg Halsey. I always wanted to write this because in every single Combs/Crampton collaboration, they play lovers (Castle Freak, From Beyond, the Evil Clergyman) EXCEPT FOR in Reanimator, so I made a tumblr post saying I'd like to explore a Meg/Herbert thing solely because of that (and I've only seen it being done one other time, which made me wanna take a personal shot at it). This post was WAY more popular than I expected (it didn't hit the hundreds, but it hit like 20+ notes when I expected like 1 and it being a comment of "are you insane?" with nothing else), so I decided to take it seriously. Then someone suggested I make a version where Meg is the main character, no Dan, no nothing and I thought that was a really interesting idea and ran with it.  I made several notes (like four pages) about Meg's character and realized that she’s an amazing, incredibly accomplished ball of air. They made her have good instincts, a good brain, be helpful, be sweet, and then gave her zero personality. This isn’t her movie, so the first thing I did in this AU was scramble around with her brains and give her a will to live for something. The second thing I did was to scramble around with her brains enough so she’d have ambition.  The third one was to scramble around with her brains enough she’d have a crush on West—who is her equal here. I'm not saying this relationship won't go into some toxic patterns, but so does Danbert, though I understand the implications. It's more like a double edged sword, though.  When I say this is an AU, I mean it’s an AU for sure. I changed a lot of plot points, and switched things around, because it turns out that having Meg as a protag changes a lot on its own. I personally think that Herbert liked Dan for three reasons: He was beautiful, smart and incredibly gullible. Here he likes Meg because she's smart, ambitious and much more like him than others would think. She doesn't take bullshit, though. Scenes are maintained but go different directions, etc. Meg also went through trauma and transformation, which will be unpacked, and though she externally acts like the Meg we know, most of the time, she's not. She had like a Veronica Mars esque transformation, minus the REAL TRAGEDIES of Veronica Mars.  I decided to name this a ballad cause I always name things ballads and start with the definition of the word cause I’m pretentious and like to make it seem as if it’s not ‘cause of the ballad of John and Yoko. In this case, though, I decided to just call it the ballad of Meg Halsey, instead of the ballad of Herbert and Meg, or Halsey and West, because this fanfic is very much about Meg—she deserves it.  The Naked and the Blind comes from that line from Every Me Every You by Placebo (like the naked leads the blind, I know I’m selfish, I’m unkind). It felt fitting. I also included two characters of Lovecraft lore which will be useful throughout the fic (and possible sequel in which I take the bones of bride of reanimator and completely reshape it), Asenath Waite and Edward Derby, from The Thing on the Doorstep. I also mention the Pickmans, Necronomicons, all of that. I think I'm going to use Welsey as a ship name for now, though I'm sure someone else somewhere in the world has already come up with a ship name for them. I also named the Playlist I made for them this. Very normal behavior.  I have seven chapters written, almost at the end of the fic as a whole, and I’ll try to upload one every Monday. We’ll see.
1. Sucker love is heaven sent.
Meg Halsey had a problem. Ok. Maybe not that.
Here's a picture of Meg Halsey's life one year ago: A happy medical student in New York, with her own room and roommate at one of the dorm houses. Not a sorority girl like her mother gushed about her being when she was twelve, but still friendly towards everyone. Her hair was a little shorter, less gruffy, definitely bobbed, and she probably looked serene. Medical students aren't by definition serene, but she hadn't majorly fucked up. She got high grades, was the second best in her class which was full of men, and she was proud of herself.
Then her mother died. The rest was probably history, or easily deductible.
Savings had existed, but living in Arkham was more expensive than she remembered. Her dad wanted to pay for the house, but she refused because she knew what that entailed. He also wanted her to move back with him, but that would also mean other things: You don't need to pay rent, but you'll have to cook, clean, take care of affairs and be your mother. She was shocked he hadn't sent for her when she was dying, but then it had been so fast that maybe he didn't have the time.
“Don't worry daddy, it's OK,” she had said with a smile, eyeing the wine. She couldn't drink in front of him unless it was a special occasion, like a thirteen year old. “I'm just gonna have to find a roommate.”
It had been a week ago, at that house that smelled of death. Wood, carpets of history, several footprints of doctors, her mother and all the versions of herself.
I wish I could have that drink…
“Hmm…” Yes. The characteristic Dean Halsey “Hm.” The same he had for his employees when he needed to convince them of something. Here we go… “I'm not sure it's safe for you to invite a stranger into your house, Meggie.”
“I had a stranger in my house, remember? My roommate in college.” A nice girl, who never got into trouble, she had told her mother in her semi-weekly calls, which was a lie. Becca was a protester who was always in and out of jail because of fights with the cops. Still, that meant Meg had quiet nights to study, or contemplate the lights on in places that hadn't been Arkham.
“I still don't know about that, sweetheart. Maybe you should move back in for a while…”
“Are you alright, honey?” Her mother's voice resonated in her head. Last phone call before disaster. She remembered the clothes she had been wearing: Light sweater, jeans, boots. A Meg Halsey classic. She remembered it was raining and that two people went behind her, two guys, talking. There was a light breeze from the door and they were gone.
“I'm alright, mom. You?”
“Meg,” Dr. Harrod said. Hospital. Residence. Meg was holding onto her scalpel too tightly. “Maybe you need a break.”
“I'm fine.”
Another picture of Meg Halsey’s life: Prodigy. Brilliant. Bright smile, beautiful blue eyes. She was a perfect specimen of what you would call a girl: Polite, traditional, good. She never stayed out past eight, she never went with boys that much, she never strayed from her studies. She wanted to be whatever her dad thought was best, whatever her mother thought would make her proud.
Meg had goals and ambitions, sure, but she also wanted other things. She watched her parents at the table, while cutting her meat. They were always smiling, laughing easily. All of it. She wanted it all. She even thought she had met a boy, her last high school boyfriend, traditional all the way, very nice and Christian upper middle class. Then…
The television was on, showing the news and Meg bit her lip. She looked at her nails, looked at the carpet and then at her cat, roaming around. “I'm not even going to have money to feed you at this rate,” she said when her beloved Rufus came to her lap. She put her face on his back gently. “God…”
Not turning back to the house, she'd have to find a roommate, one that she wouldn't be afraid would murder her in her sleep. Maybe she needed some coffee. Maybe she needed a million dollars.
She looked at the clock on the wall, the one that looked like Felix the cat, which she had in her bedroom at ten. The eyes went back and forth, freaking her mother out. It still had the stain of when she tried to paint it pink with glitter nail polish. Most importantly, it told her it was almost time to leave. Harrod would be going up and down looking for her and she had morgue duty, which was surely a lot for her muscles and she didn't look forward to it—morgue duty being that now it was the norm that someone else other than the attending intern doctor take the body downstairs, after an incident occurred (no more was mentioned about such an incident).
She wouldn't let her colleagues say she was using her status as the Dean's daughter to get out of good honest work.
However, she would have to look at Hill… He was always there testing his weird pen…
“Ouch!” She shrieked, looking at her hand and seeing the blood. “Oh, Rufus, get off!” Rufus did so, apparently understanding he shouldn't bite her and that she'd be rightfully pissed. She had to admit it was effective in bringing her back to the scene, though. It was a documentary which aired now, about a fishing town with a strange, rare disease. She had heard about it, and should be more interested considering, but frankly all she wanted was that coffee and a shower.
It was a pleasant afternoon in Arkham, her birth city. A strange city to be brought up in, with a deep history of the occult, but with a pristine, ivy league college in the form of the Miskatonic University. Meg stepped out of her car, chilly. She was wearing boots, a sweater and her hair was up. It was getting longer. Her dad almost went insane when she wanted to leave Arkham for New York, especially for medicine if she so insisted on studying that.
“A more womanly course would be interesting…”
“What's more womanly than curing people? Than being a healer?” Her mother waved her hand.
“I'm just not sure, Meg. Your dad thinks the same… Maybe it'd be best…”
“Would you have gone if you could? If you could do anything, would you? I can. I wanna go to New York.”
Every time in the past few months that she felt the air of the hospital wafting on her, sterilized and reminiscent of all the times she went to visit her dad, it was sort of like defeat. Not that she'd let that bring her down. She did go to New York after all. It was temporary, just until her dad got back on her feet.
Until he met someone, Becca said. A hot, pretty new thing to screw.
“Halsey,” Harrod said, standing by reception. Was she waiting? “Right on time. You need to go to 106, now. A patient just died, you need to take her down.”
At least she wasn't the one who killed her. Hooray for small miracles.
Scrubs became her, she thought—not that having vain thoughts was her hallmark—but they were not better than suits by a mile. She felt extremely underdressed in a second, walking into the morgue, at least compared to the austere, small man checking the beakers.
“Meg?” The man raised his head. The second man, being the corpse, stayed thankfully very still. “What are you doing here?”
“Pushing a body?” She laughed a little, to make things light, but she knew she had been busted. A few years ago it'd be unprecedented to go behind his back on anything, but now... Besides, it wasn't drugs, it was just a dead guy for Christ's sake.
He looked concerned right away.
“You're too small to be doing this kind of work. You'll kill yourself.”
“Honestly daddy—” she could feel the ears of the stranger perking up at that. Great going, Meg. Tell every single stranger about it. “It's fine. I can do it.” He paused and pursed his lips.
“Certainly one of your classmates…”
“I said I'm alright,” she smiled a little towards him, to mitigate any disrespect, before turning her attention completely to the left. “Who are you?” The small man looked up from a tag in one of the corpses.
“Oh, don't mind me. I'm sure I don't wanna interrupt family.” Her dad wouldn't pick up on the sarcasm, Meg knew, but she did. Her shoulders tensed, her eyes narrowed.
“Nonsense,” Dean Halsey began, well humored. “Mr. West, I'd like to introduce you to the most brilliant medical student in this room…” She looked away.
“Stop it, dad,” Meg smiled her brightest smile to hide her discomfort, as usual. West smiled back, in contempt.
“Oh, does she have a name?”
“I'm Megan. Halsey.” She didn't bother stretching her hand, she didn't wanna touch him.
“Pleased to meet you, Ms. Halsey.” I don't think so.
“West just came from Switzerland. He was doing independent research for Dr. Gruber, before he died.” Meg knew the story, heard it through the grapevine, but no one knew any details.
Gruber was a brilliant doctor, though. She had read his most recent paper on brain death, and all the other ones he wrote a lot in New York. A page turner, Gruber—by medical paper standards, at least.
“So, you studied death?” She asked. His ears perked up again.
“Yes, I have.” Well dressed, prim and curt. Fun. I'll love having him in class.
“Alan,” a third voice filled the place, coming from the adjacent room, the one where he no doubt had been procuring a corpse from. Meg involuntarily twisted her nose and pretended she had an itch. She stopped on his feet. “Nice to see you down here, Ms. Halsey.”
“Well I'm glad, cause here I am, every Tuesday.” Next time tell him when you go out to do your laundry.
“Definitely more than your father comes down here. We haven't been seeing him in a while.”
“I was just showing our newest student, Herbert West here, the not-so-grand-tour.” He always made that joke when he brought people down. Meg saw him do it at least twice and heard about it four other ones. “This should interest you, Carl. He worked with Hans Gruber.” While her dad introduced Hill, and all of his prowess to get research grants somehow, probably with that freaky pen he carried, Meg was thinking briefly about how was Herbert West working for Gruber, fully, even as a student.
“I know your work Dr. Hill. Quite well.” Meg raised her head. “Your theory on the location of the will in the brain is… Interesting, though derivative of Dr. Gruber's research in the early 70s.”
She knew that. She needed a dictionary to read his most obscure work, but German and English were similar enough, she got by.
“So derivative, in fact, that in Europe it's considered plagiarized. And your support of the 12 minute limit on the life of the brain stem after death…”
“...Six to twelve minutes, Mr…?”
Meg wanted to leave.
“West. Herbert West. Frankly, Dr… Hill? Your work on brain death is outdated.”
“Carl,” her dad interrupted and Meg looked away from the scene. Frankly, Hill gave her the creeps, sort of, and seeing him that angry was unpleasant. Suck it up, ok? You know him since you were at least twelve, it's fine.
You were always soft.
“...Megan and I would love it if you came to dinner.” Wait what?
“What?” She repeated out loud. Herbert turned his bright hazel, poisonous eyes towards her. She straightened her back. “I'm sorry, dinner? When?
“Thursday,” West answered for the others. He put his hands on his hips. “Maybe pushing bodies around really isn't for someone as small as you, Ms. Halsey.”
“I'm fine.”
“You might kill yourself.”
“Dad, dinner, Thursday? I'm not sure I can make it.”
What else are you gonna do? Your friends don't talk to you anymore since you left for New York to hang out with feminists, artists, and bohemians, leaving them here with babies and husbands.
“Well, I'm sure you'll make an exception,” Hill said, looking straight at her. “A lovely, amazing student such as yourself should take some time off every now and then. Celebrate.” She hated when he looked straight at her. She could feel her dad and West observing in the sidelines.
“Sure,” Meg found herself saying, hands tight against the steel of the gurney, knuckles turning white. “I'll cook.”
You'll what?!
“Fantastic,” Hill finished, looking at Herbert next. “I'll see you in class, mr. West. Ms. Halsey.” He nodded his head and she smiled, closing her eyes.
Both Hill and her father left in what seemed to be a dream sequence, no doubt discussing the grant, and the autopsy room was silent once again.
Her head was throbbing. The walls and floors were gray, there was a corpse rotting in their midst, Meg took a deep breath—chemical and invigorating somehow.
“I take it you don't like Dr. Hill either.” She looked at West, whose eyes still shone. He approached her, footsteps echoing out. “How did you know I was studying death?”
“I'm a doctor, Mr. West. I read,” she released the gurney, feeling tired for the meal she'd have to cook, on top of studying. There was a beat before she could stop herself from asking “What happened between you and dr. Gruber?”
“What do you mean?” A slight twitch, a small movement of the lips. “Dr. Gruber had a lab accident that I was unfortunately too late to prevent.”
“I heard he was in his office when he died.” Another twitch.
“I'm sure you heard it wrong, with all due respect ms. Halsey.”
Chemical smells, corpses rotting, the smell of something burning—Hill's pen no doubt left crisp black flesh behind, and he did it on enough people in the morgue proper that it got to where she was. She looked at West for almost long enough she'd probably have his exact face and pose at that moment committed to memory, forever.
He looked at her, waiting for something to happen.
Her hands hurt from grasping the gurney for so long.
“I'm not doing so great, sweetie…” She had said. Two men talking behind her. Her dad and Hill were gone. West was there.
“I'm sorry I asked,” Meg finally gathered, headache suddenly subsiding, like it never was. “Sorry for your loss, he must have been a wonderful mentor.” West bowed slightly and Meg did the same before turning around and going through the doors.

In all honesty, I can’t wait for the French invasion, because I can see Fleur and her sister just breaking in UA to chek on Yuga. Poor Bill is running after them, try to keep the damage to minimal
Okay but same. You have no idea how hype I am for Fleur and Gabrielle to come for a visit/family reunion. Like first of all I adore them both but second imagine the chaos.
Everyone still dealing from the fact that their five foot nothing heroics teacher has scary levels of power without even trying but can’t reach the top shelf and then here come in two drop dead gorgeous blondes (and another feral child) with a frantic redhead in tow just all. “Where are they?” And then Harry is just there getting tackled by a seventeen year old that is also, unsurprisingly, taller than him and Fleur is kissing both of his cheeks and going on and on about how he is a “terrible brother who never writes and makes us all worry” through laughter.
And then they see Yuuga lingering around the edges and so damn scared they will get turned away from this glimmer of family they, despite everything, have started to hope for, and it is the loudest most over the top reunion and all of them are crying and no one understands anything out of their mouths because it’s been completely meshed between French English and Japanese, but what they do know is Yuuga is smiling and the redhead who looks a lot like a cooler Welsey-sensei is patting their friend’s hair and telling them they always have a place in Shell Cottage whatever that is and they don’t think they’ve ever seen their friend so happy.

anon chelsea here - but who's your favourite player chelsea mistreat? I'm confused
thank your for your answer! To be fair I've seen the freeziyech deal since last year so I don't think it's only related to the failed transfer. That's fine if we don't agree, I appreciate the honesty. I was just wondering because I think there must be reasons since everyone dislikes the club quite passionately over here, but it was just curiosity from my side and I hope you know I didn't come here to judge despite the disagreements. I'm sorry to hear you don't feel okay!
diisdjsj hello chelsea anon. or anon chelsea. which ever u prefer. it's still ziyech for the mistreated favorite chelsea player skdjs i mightve drunkly stumbled my way through the last ask if i didn't make it clear ziyech IS my favorite chelsea player. n i think the only one? i do enjoy welsey fofana & reece james tho. good men.
well true, but when i use freeziyech for the psg transfer loan fail. thats the most recent example n that reason i put it there in the first place. that's my personal ting n everyone else's currently who uses it (well— chelseaians on Twitter. what do they call fans of chelsea, i never know.) n i get it. sorry if i came off snappy or harsh or as anything too negative, not my intention 🙏🏿 just how i type. n yes fair 2 ask n stuff for curiosity n im not judging u either despite our differences in taste & opinion
take careee n ty blud 🙏🏿💞

Sorry this is going to be really long! 🫢🫢I just read all your books in record time. I was stalking @rookieoneil because CHENPEZ (no because she literally has so many stories my gay little heart screams) 😹 and I stumbled across your books. So then I went down a rabbit hole of you and Missesmom on AO3 …the book is one for the road, just the three of us. Anyways so I read the two of those first then I went into your series!!! Oh. IM OBSESSED WITH YOU🙀 freaking talent.!
I’m going to be honest I was weary about the Tim/Welsey bit because Tim screams straight man but as I was reading your book i forgot he wasn’t actually gay😹
But anyways I love your book sooooo much.
I had a few questions
1. Will we see a scene where Tim tries to leave after the whole Ray situation then Angela and Welsey comfort Lucy and help them all get back together
2. Would you ever write a Chenpez book? Even a short one chapter one? ☝️
3. This isn’t really about your book but did writing help make connections online? Cause I wanna build my relationships online and I wanna try writing
4. Will Angela and Wesley’s parents find out about the foursome?
Anyways I don’t want to bother you too much 🙈 so goodnight! And have a great writing adventure!!! I’ll keeep reading whatever you write ✍️
Aww, I love asks so a long one is awesome!!
@rookieoneil is amazing and I ADORE her stories! She's the best at Chenpez! Also Missesmom and her story "You, Me, and Her", which is the start of the "Just the Three of Us" series, was the first Rookie fanfic I read and I was hooked!
I was (and still am) super nervous writing Tim/Wesley scenes because they are both very hetero in the show but honestly, I try to be as true to their onscreen personas as possible while adding in what makes them mine. If that makes sense?
Now, to answer your questions!
I had someone ask this right after 6x06 aired and at the time I wasn't sure I could write something like that. I'm still not sure I could do it just because my characters are a lot more open with each other (or at least I like to think they are). I may have to try it and see if they let me write it. So, who knows?
I might! I'm a big believer that Tim and Lucy & Angela and Wesley are soulmates so separating them is hard for me, but I might. And if not, we all know who the queen of Chenpez is!!
Writing definitely has helped me make connections here online! I've made some great connections here on Tumblr but also on Twitter! And if you want to write, do it!
I have played with that idea and honestly, I'm pretty sure Patrice knows at this point since she's got the kids anytime the foursome needs a date night! I'm not sure how Angela's mom would deal with it, though. I think if I write about any kids coming into the group (which is a whole post on it's own) then we'll see more of Patrice Evers and Emilia Lopez!
It's no bother and anytime you want to send me an ask, please do!! If you wanna see something from the foursome I will add it to my always growing list of prompts for them!
And if you want to see what I'm currently working on, you can check out my new Chenford story, "seeing the signs"!
Thank you for the ask!!

“wesley crusher ripoff in seaquest” boring. who cares. “wesley crusher ripoff in seaquest who is the only character to appear in every episode and objectively has more plot important than the rest of the cast. and he’s always wearing a baseball jersey”: this is awesome and cool.

Wesley had had his nose buried in books ever since Lilah had told him that Lindsey was back and that he'd kissed her. That had bothered him more than her meeting with him.
He didn't know why, but it did.
Well, yes he did. Before he'd spent a significant amount of time around Terran Nytefyer's troupe, and noticed how many people that lived in not only NyteHavyn Castle but also the town of Rhys, were in happy, loving, non-monogamous relationships, Wesley had been the jealous sort. Not dangerous jealous, not raging jealous, just jealous. And he'd known he had changed, at least a little when he and Tolaas, and then he and Lilah, had spoken of Tolaas' attraction to her and he'd given his blessing to the relationship because he knew that he'd still have Lilah in his life, and that she'd still love him. He wasn't worried about her and Tolaas.
But, for some reason, the jealous feelings surfaced when her kiss with Lindsey was mentioned.
And, the more he thought about it, the more he'd come to the conclusion that it was because Lindsey was from a part of her life she wasn't involved in anymore, and he was afraid of what her being around Lindsey would do.
He'd realized he had been an ass. If Lilah had any intention of leaving him, for anyone, she wouldn't hesitate. She might have tried to be a bit more gentle about it where Wes was concerned, but she would have done it, regardless.
But she didn't. And he knew she still loved him.
He was being a fool, he knew this. But he couldn't help it, as hard as he was trying. Lindsey, and Lilah's ties to that past, would always be a sore point for him.
But Lilah deserved for Wes to try to keep that pushed off to the side. She wasn't going to leave him for Lindsey (because that would probably mean leaving Tolaas, too, and he was sure she wouldn't do that), and she wouldn't be going back to Wolfram and Hart.
Welsey needed to get his feelings about this whole thing under control. Yes, his feelings were valid, and he was allowed to have them... he just shouldn't let them affect his relationship with Lilah.
If something bothered him, he needed to discuss it with Lilah, not bury his head in spellbooks and demonology books and history books... he needed to face what bothered him head-on and deal with it in a way that would actually allow him to do so without causing harm or hurt to anyone he cared about.
Especially Lilah.
Talk to her, lay it out on the table, tell her how you feel and felt... and then apologize for how you acted.
He still had a few things to learn. He guessed that would always be the case, in some way.
A noise brought him to the surface from his thoughts. A knock. Then a louder knock. Slowly, Wesley stood and walked over to the door and opened it. When he saw it was Lilah, his face softened. He reached out and took one of her hands and gently pulled her into the room, shutting the door behind him.
"I believe we need to talk," he said quietly, and smiled gently at her, apologetically.
@lilahemorgan
After meeting and talking to Eileen, Lilah decided to go check in on Wesley. She walked down to his room and knocked on the door. She wasn’t too surprised that he’d kind of gone to ground and gotten a little lost in his research, because she was used to it, she was however concerned that he had been at it the whole time she’d been away with Tolass. She knocked on the door again this time a little louder.

Hi! Like you I find Fresley interesting and would love to hear what about them intrigues you. For me it's partly that Fred and Wesley are so alike in certain ways yet pretty much opposite in others :)
Hi! I didn't exactly forget to reply to you... but I sort of did. Blame it on covid, sorry!
Fresley are interesting in many ways, because their relationship is so much more than their actual relationship. Wesley's relationship with Lilah, for example, as well as Wesley's arcs in seasons 3-5, and Wesley's relationship with Illyria... all of these are directly related to his relationship with Fred.
The writers did Fred dirty with the love triangle nonsense of seasons 3 and 4 (even 5), and I don't really like how Wes is sort of waiting in the sidelines, or defined so strongly by Fred - a lot of it is pretty cliché and toxic - but there are a lot of interesting elements to the ship.
Welsey and Lilah are my fave AtS ship. Part of what drew Wes to Lilah was probably how unlike Fred she was. That scene where Lilah dresses up like Fred and makes fun of men's obsession with innocence is pretty funny and spot-on. Clinging to someone you can't have, and entering a relationship with someone because it's convenient or because you're lonely (it's not always about holding hands...), is pretty realistic and common. So I feel like Wesley and Lilah's relationship was a breath of fresh air in the show (it was kind of toxic, but it was supposed to be toxic; it was an organic kind of toxic), and behind that relationship lays (partly) Fresley.
I do like a lot of Fred and Wes's moments in season 5. Personality wise, they were well matched. Fred changed a lot over seasons 3 and, especially, 4. She proved to be quite cunning and, at times, quite vengeful. Gunn was never like this, but Wes was.
Fred's death was obviously really significant to Wes's closing arc. The emptiness and apathy he felt, and the decisions he made, were brought about by Fred dying. In the end, Illyria added another interesting element to Fred and Wesley's relationship. Fred died, but Illyria looks like Fred, so I personally see Wesley dying in Illyria/Fred's arms as the conclusion to Wes and Fred's story. And I think it's pretty beautiful (or, rather, merciful) to be granted the opportunity to see someone you love for the last time. It's not Fred, but Illyria mimics Fred perfectly. Wesley's last scene in Not Fade Away is one of the most brilliant and moving scenes ever. Again, it's only possible because of Wesley and Fred's relationship being so decisive to Wes's character.
Even if Wesley and Fred's relationship wasn't much of an actual relationship, and more meaningful to Wes than Fred, it's still the basis for a lot of Wes's most memorable scenes and arcs.
I wish I could say more from Fred's pov, but I'm a much bigger Wes fan. And, tbh, in a way, Fred was equally shaped by Gunn and Wes. From her perspective, it was the push and pull between those two that mattered more. It was just sexist writing though. She was like a pawn. She didn't gain much from it as a character or as a "person".
Thanks for the ask! Words have been failing me recently. I'm out of practice, so I apologize for the clumsy and uninspired writing.

*Wesley gets excited as she see’s Talon’s caller ID*
[On The Phone]
Wesley: Hey Talon. Talon: Hey Wesley, hows the new place? Welsey: It’s still slowly being put together. Miko and Akira are constantly kissing and undressing each other. Zayde is too busy looking for that girl from Windenburg.. *Talon laughs being updated on the roomates* Talon: Sounds like you need a break. *Wesley smiles looking around* Wesley: Yeah, I’m out right now.
Talon: Yeah, I’m out right now? Wesley: Nothing too much, you? *Talon smiles hearing she is free for the day* Talon: Want to meet up somewhere?  Wesley: Sure, where should we meet up?  Talon: Near the the waterfalls where the big redish Sculpture is.
How could I not be happy to talk to Wesley. I was finally going to ask her out for a “Friend Date”. I was sure she wanted to see me since she picked up right away. I was so excited to see the girl I couldn’t ever stop thinking about.

Highlights of the 2021/2022 season - JGP Courchevel I and II
Skate America is next week. We’re past the first quarter of the season (yes the season starts with JGP, yall who think otherwise are wrong), and I thought I’d do a brief recap of the various highlights of this period. Good and bad. Amazing performances and dubious music choices, WTF costumes and sometimes everything together.
Hanna Lim/Ye Quan’s RD to Gangnam Style
youtube
So far watching Junior Rhythm dances has been more rewarding then watching Seniors. It doesn’t feel nearly as cringy, some truly original choices. The Junior Korean pair are a pretty good exemple, with their banger of a RD to… Gangnam Style. And it works! It’s great and entertaining and just what I needed to start the season.
Maya Benkiewics and Nicolas Heinault’s costumes for their FD
Tumblr media
Sorry for the low quality screenshot. A very young pair, a bit messy still but endearing, but that’s not the point. The point is, WTF are they wearing? Why those costumes? They are skating to a strange mix of Polovtsian Dances and Russian Sailor Song. I mean I get the blue stripes with the whole sailor thing but why is the boy wearing only half a sailor costume, and half a black jacket? And why did the choreographer feel the need to include Polovtsian Dances into this mess?
Regina Garcia de Leon Saab’s Amélie FS
youtube
A junior skater to watch out for. I don’t think she has all her triples yet (jumped 2F and 2Lz iirc), but she has good skating skills for her age. Is fast going into the jumps, and has very decent lines and musicality.
Seojeon Ji paying tribute to both Mao Asada and Yuna Kim by skating to Dance Macabre in the short, and Rach n°2 in the free
Ahsun Yun’s stunning dress for her FS to the Mummy
Tumblr media
Kaiya Ruiter’s serene presence on the ice. Arms and upper body still need work, but the way she glides across the ice, her footwork is a joy to watch. Her Opportunities SP suits her very well and showcases her best qualities.
youtube
Arlet Levandi making history and earning Estonia’s first ever JGP medal, and skating to the best Carmen version there is which is of course, Stromae’s
youtube
Casper Johansson’s wonderful FS to Narnia. I have no idea why it is not popular among juniors because the Narnia OSTs are absolute bangers.
youtube
Muse’s I Belong To You proving to be the winning music choice as both Welsey Chiu and the Brown siblings skated to it and won.

ST: TNG S4 Watchthrough Episodes 22-25
Half a Life: Okay Lwaxana, let's see if the fourth time is the charm. So… gonna be honest, this episode just made me uncomfortable with the subject matter. Essentially Lwaxana becomes friendly with a man named Timicin… who is going to commit suicide as part of his culture due to his age. needless to say, I thoroughly am not okay with this. The episode does delve into it like Lwaxana reacts as you would expect and there are points made about how she has no right to interfere in others cultures/personal beliefs and how we treat middle-aged individuals nearing their elder years. But… y’know… a society that dictates that you kill yourself at 60 is… I’m sorry, I just cannot discuss this topic fairly. While I am opinionated, I do try my best to be fair… but I’m just not comfortable enough to discuss this topic in this way because I thoroughly disagree with suicide as acceptable on any level. At least not with how it was done here. That being said, being fair, I can give some praise. First, David Ogden Stiers! Heck yes~! I love his work in various Disney films, and he was excellent here! And on Lwaxana… I liked her here. Not only is her man-chasing ways with a man who is receptive to it so it feels less dumb/annoying/kinda creepy and more charming and legitimately entertaining than when she’s forcing it on Picard, but frankly I was on her side throughout the episode. When suicide is involved, someone should intervene and Timicin shouldn’t have to die just because he’s hit 60 and they don’t want to burden their children with caring for the elderly. My dad died at 54, and I never hesitated in trying to care for him. No one in my family did. But you could see Lwaxana’s pain and grief and when she broke down in the Transporter Room to Troi… God. I may not be the biggest fan of her character, but the poor woman just needs a big hug. In the end, it's really hard for me to tell which side the episode is standing with. it chooses to shoot down the middle with Timicin choosing to go through with it and Lwaxana finally allowing it… but it doens’t feel like we’re supposed to be okay with it. I get it, it’s their planet’s beliefs and whether one should interfere in one's culture or not is a legit question… but when it comes to matters like this I just… IDK. Like I said IDK if I can give this a fair opinion because again, I just don’t agree with the subject matter whatsoever and it just feels utterly wrong. Maybe it’s supposed to, but… yeah. I’m gonna be fair here and shoot down the middle for the rating because I can’t say it’s a poorly done episode and the personal bias may be affecting my judgment… but it is certainly one I am unlikely to revisit. 3/5.
The Host: Crusher’s got a boyfriend, aww~! Too bad that he ends up dead, aww… but it’s okay! Turns out they’re actually a symbiote known as a Trill in a host body and they stick him into Riker in the meantime! Uhh… sure? Is this how it works for Jadzia in DS9? So the symbiote, Odon, is also an Ambassador and still needed, so Riker volunteers to be that host… despite no human ever carrying a Trill before. Needless to say, this not only causes issues for Riker but… well, muddies up Crusher and Odon’s relationship quite a bit. This makes sense, Odon not only mentioning this detail but being a symbiote that goes from body to body can be hard to settle. Crusher does eventually decide to try and make it work despite the awkwardness because she genuinely loves Odon, who is suffering due to Riker’s body just not being suitable. It’s fine, it’s certainly an interesting concept… until we get to the ending. What causes Crusher to break it off with Odon? His new host body suited for them… is a woman’s body. Now she says it’s because she just can’t handle the body hopping and I’m gonna take that as the truth… but the way the episode portrays it, it’s more like she can’t handle the body hopping into a female body despite her saying that’s not it. I know, I know it was the 90’s and again I’m just gonna act like seeing the new body was when the reality was hitting Crusher and she realized that it was just too much too fast. I can buy that. But again, the execution makes it feel… well, there’s no other way to say it, homophobic/biphobic/transphobic. Again 90’s, but still. At least the Trill’s aren’t picky about their gender at least physically, I can respect that. But yeah… needless to say this has quite a few unfortunate implications under a modern lens. Still, it was alright. Considering Jadzia in DS9, I’m looking forward to seeing more about the Trills then. The episode was alright, I just wish that the ending was more open-minded because it really put a damper on my final opinion. It shows that for all its progressiveness, ST still has plenty of prejudices from the real-life eras that they were made in. I’m just glad that we’re at least beginning to improve now. 2/5.
The Mind’s Eye: Geordi has been kidnapped by the Romulans. That sucks… and it gets worst when they conduct a painful mind-control experiment on him. Why? Well, the Enterprise is en route to deal with a Klingon insurrection and have a Klingon ambassador on board. They want Geordi to kill said the ambassador and thus crumble apart from the Federation/Klingon alliance. So yeah, bad. Geordi is a good boy, in romantically hopeless, he didn’t deserve this! Poor guy isn’t even aware of what he’s doing and can’t even sleep properly. It especially got tense there in the end as Data started piecing everything together… just as Geordi is readying to execute the assassination. Thank God that they managed to stop him, but again, poor Geordi. Oh and the fact that there was a Klingon turncoat on board triggering the order… yeah. Looks like Duras wasn’t the only Klingon in ona. Romulan conspiracy. Geordi’s left with implanted memories and the trauma of undergoing a brainwashing that he can’t even remember happening. Another solid episode that continues the threat of the Romulans and this whole RomulanKlingon conspiracy. We’re beuilding up to something, and it’s likely to be explosive. 4/5.
In Theory: A girl named Jenna has a crush on Data, oh my! Data, despite believing that as an android he can’t feel romantic attraction, decides that he’d like to pursue this, even making a romantic program for himself. In other words, it’s The Dauphin 2.0. So first, again with this whole thing about Data being an unfeeling android. Why can’t Data feel romantic attraction? He’s been shown to feel plenty of feelings including some level of affection for Tasa, just because it’s not in the ‘’normal’ way doesn’t make it any less true. Maybe Data is aromantic, but that’s not gonna come up in a 90’s show, which 90’s standards are why this feels so wrong. Data’s curiosity on the subject and deciding to pursue it is fine. He’s new to it and sure studying/emulating what media and books say about romance isn’t always best as the episode does demonstrate. That’s certainly a fine message to express and plenty of people have done/gone through that. There were some fun moments like Data seeking out advice from the others and Worf pretty much threatening Data to treat Jenna, who is part of Security, well or else was also amusing XD But yeah this episode was cute in a few ways, but I just can’t get over that whole ‘Data is emotionless’ thing. The show has shown far more evidence for Data having emotions than lacking them? Maybe Data thinks that he doesn’t, I can believe that, but still. Had they portrayed it simply as Data, being new to love and curious about it, didn’t fully get it/wasn’t ready but was trying to force it anyways and Jenna broke it off because of that instead of using the ‘he was a rebound’ excuse? I’d have been more accepting of that instead of wondering why they even bothered with this plot to begin with. To say that Data can’t feel love and anyone who tries is doomed to failure instead of Data learning to be better over time? Yeah… sorry, not buying it. The Dauphin, despite me not liking how Welsey acted at the end, was standard but still cute. This one though? Sorry, didn’t care for it. But hey, we got Spot again, so that made it worth it! 2/5.
So… aside from the third one, not the best episodes. But hey, everything else this season has still been good. Very least I’ll have plenty to make a Top 5 Best/Worst list for S4 now. Next time is the S4 finale/S5 premiere! Yay~! S4 has been such a fun ride so far! Will the ending end things on a high note and guarantee a strong beginning for S5? We shall see~!

Do you ever just stop and think about how much emotion went into Fisk yelling that Wesley was his friend while he was beating Francis?
It becomes so much more meaningful when you realize that Wesley was Fisk’s first and only friend.
What he was yelling wasn’t just a simple, “He’s my friend and his death upsets me.”
It was an, “I don’t let anyone know me, but he is the only person I let become my closest companion - don’t you people understand how much he means to me?!”
Not only that, but as pointed out by Acacius in their wonderful story “[ hell’s a lonely road ]”, in that moment, Fisk is in so much shock and grief that he yells that Wesley is his friend.
Wesley is his friend.
It must have happened quite a few times before he realized that, no, Welsey isn’t his friend anymore - Wesley was his friend, and from then on, he had to refer to him in the past tense.
The layers and dimensions that go into the writing of this show will never cease to amaze me.
