I look up to Evelyn Hugo so much. In all her life she worked hard to get what she wanted and knew she deserved. She didn't worry about being the bad guy from time to time if that means she would get what she wants. She was calculative. She sacrificed parts of herself, mostly parts of her heart and soul to rise up. The way she valued and loved the people close to her. Her chosen family. I think the book is about love, family, loss of the people you care about, how everything comes with a cost and what it is to be a woman. One would think it is about the life of celebrities in that era and it is but that doesn't compare to what it actually represents. It tells us the story how she loved in different ways, sacrificed so much for stardom but realised that nothing really mattered more than the people she calls family. Ultimately, got to be with the love of her life. It's beautiful. She was a dynamic woman to say the least.

How to tell when Dean likes someone: Playfulness, gift-drinks, very random but original compliments, eye contact, and he lies less automatically.
How to tell when Dean really likes someone: Shotgun-seat privileges in the Impala, gifts of food, lies to protect their feelings rather than hunter/family restricted information.  Starts putting their life above an ordinary ‘civilian’s’ when the chips are down.  Grants second, third, and sometimes fourth chances.  Will discuss the other person’s feelings if he thinks it’ll help.
How to tell when Dean loves someone: Starts putting their life and happiness between his own and Sam’s on the priority scale.  Lies to manipulate them into staying out of harm’s way but lies to protect their feelings less.  Will actually yell at them in public.  Never gives up on them, ever.  Lets them take food or drinks away from him.  Will initiate discussions of both the other person’s feelings AND his own.
