“Have you read those books,” Joy asked, “the ridiculous ones where it’s like ‘and there was only one bed.’”

“Yeah,” said Nina. “It’s so silly.”

“So silly,” Joy agreed.

Silence pressed down on her like an elephant, so she kept talking. “They’re always like, ‘Oh, it’s so cold. We should sleep close for warmth.’”

Nina laughed. “Meanwhile there’s a whole fire on the hearth. Like, it’s so warm in here.”

“Exactly,” said Joy.

Nina turned on her side toward Joy, but Joy felt a very strong need to stay on her back.

“Or it’s the enemies thing where they pretend they don’t want to share the bed,” said Nina. “And the guy’s like, ‘I’ll sleep in the bathtub.’”

“Oh my god yes,” Joy giggled. “And then the girl’s like, ‘No don’t that’s so uncomfortable.’ And then they totally hook up with each other.”

She heard Nina clear her throat a bit. “Yeah,” she said. “I mean, I wouldn’t even mind sleeping in our bathtub. It looks sorta comfy.”

“I was thinking the same thing,” Joy said. Quickly, she amended, “I mean, neither of us would have to, obviously.”

“Obviously,” said Nina.

Joy broke her rule. She flipped over onto her side. The space between them was fine. Plenty of room.

“Oh my god,” Joy said, “and there’s always the internal monologue, where the main character is like ‘I wonder what it would be like to kiss them?’”

Nina smiled. “Totally,” she giggled.

She was quiet for a moment, but then she added,“We’re in the clear there, too. I mean, we already know what that’s like.”

Her words hung in the air between them. The darkness, the snowfall, the warmth in the room…

“Yeah, we do,” Joy said.

It felt like the world had stopped spinning for a moment just so Joy could rationalize her next decision. And rationalize she did.

i think the way movie dialogue sounds so different 50 years ago than now is soooo interesting and the way it shifts slowly with the times so it never feels Noticeable when it's happening except i guess when it's super bad or otherwise Notable but then you look back and the things we expect from film and what we think sounds natural has changed i have no idea what to even look for to read some analysis of this phenomenon but maybe i dont actually wanna read abt it maybe i just wanna watch more movies from more times

I work a lot. Like too much. There are days where every muscle and joint in my body hurts. But I know if I get 1 more job done faster or work 1 more hour I can put food on someone else's table or help keep a roof on someone else's head and that's what keeps me going. I just wish my taxes also went to helping others.

FINALLY FINISHED THIS!! my own interpretation and additions to Sebastian's room in sdv ! Tried to keep anything in the image from the year 2010 or predated. i think theres a few give and takes but i really like the "older brother" early 2000s grunge aesthetic on another level and i thought who better fits it than him. I put a lot of references to stuff i personally like as well ^_^
