Okay, so I literally just thought about this after reading your eternal sugar wishlist (myth edition) a couple of hours ago. Anyway, if you are right on, the story taking some inspiration from Greek mythology of Persephone & Hades as well there being an ally cookie to help hollyberry. I can see said cookie possibly take some inspiration from Hecate, the goddess of witchcraft.
If you remember, Hecate was the one who guided Demeter through the underworld (and helped Persephone adjust to her new home).I can see this cookie guiding hollyberry onto the right path to her awakening. So the prophecy is fulfilled.(also sorry if this was already sent something happened with my Wi-Fi, and I am not sure if I 'm sending this again-)
It was already sent, yeah haha. I got confused for a split second when I first opened my inbox. "Why did you send me the same ask twice homie" lol
First, I just want to gently correct you on some things you said here
Hecate did not lead Demeter through the Underworld to find Persephone/Kore. She took her to Helios, titan of the sun (and Apollo's predecessor, technically) to seek further information on her whereabouts, as his position as the "seeing-eye" that watches all the world from his place in the sky lent itself to the possibility that he saw who took her and where (which was correct. He did see what happened and told Demeter everything). It was Hermes that ventured through the Underworld (as ordered by Zeus, because by that point Demeter had long since caused an unending winter and basically slaughtering all life on earth through cold and starvation as retaliation for no one giving her her daughter back) to find Hades and Persephone and beg the former to PLEASE let the latter go home so Demeter would stop killing people. Demeter never once set foot down there. (It makes more sense for Hermes to go, anyway. He is known as the messenger of the gods and was the only non-chthonic god given unlimited free and safe passage through the Underworld as he also served as a guide for the dead, shepherding people's souls there after they passed on)
This isn't really a correction, I'm just not sure where you heard that Hecate comforted Persephone while she was down there? I don't remember that in any telling of the myth I read or was told. It's not in the original myth, I remember that much. I remember that she acted as a substitute ruler when Persephone was gone, basically holding down the fort until her return in the winter. But I don't remember any version of the story that has that part in it. Maybe it's a version I just missed, a good portion of Greek myth was oral tradition and different people had different ideas (also Ancient Greece was a collection of autonomous city-states with wildly different cultures and customs and that did not answer to one another. They would not be one unified nation for an extremely long time. The Greece we know today is VERY new). Many myths and legends are like that in general, that's why there are often so many versions of the same thing and people often bicker over which is the "real" one
All that aside, to actually talk about my Beast-Yeast hopes and wishes. Me acting like a wannabe oracle haha
I don't necessarily want the entire arc to take after the myth of Hades and Persephone. I don't really think the themes or vibe fit, you know? I just thought the consumption of a "weird" fruit as offered by the one holding Holly hostage in her weird little world would be a neat allusion to that story. Bonus if the pomegranate has some sort of toxin that puts Holly to sleep, enabling Eternal Sugar to do with her as she wishes, and keeping in line with "sloth"
Regardless, I'm not sure about any of it because I don't actually know if Holly will end up taking after Demeter at all. I sincerely hope she does. (At the very least I hope her awakened form doesn't have anything to do with Pitaya or dragons at all lol. I am legitimately tired of everyone always making Holly's life and character revolve around Pitaya (and vice versa. In fact it's 10x worse for Pitaya, I NEVER see anyone say anything about him other than in relation to Holly). Dark Cacao is already the dragon lord guy so hopefully that deters Devsis since they can't have 2 dragon-themed Ancients)
Also here is the original myth as told by Homer just because haha. It's actually titled "Hymn to Demeter" as it's really more about her and her struggles and journey than anyone else. It's quite long and extremely sad but worth the read. (It's actually also quite progressive, for the time it was written. While all versions of the myth, this one included, are meant to explain the cycle of seasons, this one in particular was also meant to serve as a commentary on Ancient Greek society and how it treated women and girls. Women had few rights and little freedom or agency, and seen more as property than people (yes social class could influence this a little but by and large women were treated horribly). When a woman was married off, it was common for her to never really see her family again (she's supposed to be with her husband now). The myth is special in that it showed reality for what it actually was - women having their lives and well-being toyed with by men, decisions made for them by men, being sent away from their homes and their loved ones to go live with and serve men until they die - instead of just kind of nodding along like everyone else did with these practices as they were the norm at the time and weren't seen as illegal or morally wrong. It was Homer expressing sympathy for all of those mothers that had their daughters taken from them to carry out others' wishes and demands at the cost of their own autonomy, because the same thing had already happened to them (fun fact, there are versions of Persephone's origin myth where she's a product of assault 🙃) and now they're just watching history repeat itself without any way to stop it. It's actually a pretty feminist story, all things considered)
#sorry for the unprompted rant there I couldn't help myself#always note that I'm not a scholar and what I say here is a reflection of what I've learned through research on my own time#just my own personal understanding and recollection of these myths and their meanings#anyway. i do understand what you're trying to say#thank you for sharing your thoughts :)#cookie run kingdom#hollyberry cookie#eternal sugar cookie#merchant asks

doing an infodump on my s/i pjo oc because why the fuck not!!! cringe is dead!!! all of it will be under the cut
tagging @punkeropercyjackson because they're most of the reason that i feel confident enough to post this
did two new picrews for him because i like the level of detail i could get with this one :))
the one or the left is meant to be right when he gets to camp, and the right is circa the end of heroes of olympus!!!
their name is onyx, he/they pronouns (genderqueer/genderfluid, he has a hard time w labels), and a child of hecate. lore is kind of shaky in a lot of areas because i've had this self insert for a couple of years now and it gets to the point where my brain can't keep everything straight
since he's a child of hecate i have like a whole magic system worked out in my head it's complicated but it makes sense i SWEAR. if you wanna hear details about it ask and you shall receive
ok now onto the like actual lore stuff
mortal parent is his mum, who he's really close with at first but she's killed by a monster when they're 9
whole family is aussie, so there aren't many of them in the states for him to connect with. weird, weird accent
goes to live with an aunt up until he gets found by a satyr and taken to camp, still visits their aunt over the winter breaks
arrives at camp halfblood when they're 12/13 circa the events of titans curse
they didn't get claimed due to their parent being a minor god so stayed in the hermes cabin, and didn't really make any friends because he had a lot of trouble with socialisation in general
idolised percy a lot from when they first started camp, but was always too shy to try and talk to them.
he realised they were genderqueer fairly young, around the end of the last olympian, when they finally got claimed and met one of their siblings who was trans, but didn't come out until the start of the lost hero
suspected he was a lesbian for years, and once they got to camp they never exactly came out, just was very open about the fact that they only liked girls (didn't date many people regardless)
has a contentious relationship with his other mum (hecate) because they nearly died in the last olympian, and their mum was one of the people who sided with kronos
very close with their siblings, who help him understand their magic more and powers in general, as well as being their first support and friend group
goes with annabeth to help pick up jason, piper and leo. lots of really awkward moments at first, but onyx immediately thinks they're all awesome. he just has no idea how to express that and comes off really mean and standoffish at first
he's 15 at the time of tlh
also just general romantic tensions with piper because i adore piper so so so so much, definitely my most consistent fictional crush ever
gonna try and do a general explanation of their powers here soooo be warned for messy yapping
basically onyx uses the most as a weapon, giving a physical form, fucking shit up, you know the deal. they have this kind of internal battery of most energy, that gets drained when he uses his power and regenerates under the full moon. this comes along with all sorts of side affects, as well as general chants and buffs/drawbacks. it's a thing. i could write about a page about this.
anyway!!! connects really well with the lost trio throughout the lost hero. ends up as jasons best friend, along with leo ofc, and pining after piper hardddd (although they're still a little bit in denial)
he's very hesitant about joining the quest to go to rome, because they have a lot of anxiety around quests and not feeling good enough in general, but eventually agree because they don't want to be left behind at camp
they talk to percy for the first time and actually make a really good connection, and are a bit hesitant around frank and hazel (like they always are around new people) but they do think both the roman's are really cool
they work alongside everyone in the mark of athena, generally taking on night shifts for patrols because he's more nocturnal than not, and going off ship while trying to conserve their mist energy
ends up trapped underground with hazel, leo and frank in tma, and admits their feelings for piper in the few weeks between tma and hoh, makes sure to stress that there's no pressure to reciprocate and the two stay good friends while piper tries to figure out her feelings
has his 16th birthday on board the ship during hoh too, and everyone celebrates together :)))
has a lot of mixed feelings about hazel and her connection to the mist and hecate at first, considering he's never met his godly mum before, but they dedicate themself to helping hazel figuring out the mist. their powers are more physical manipulations whereas hazels really good at illusion work, and the two end up becoming really really close, very sibling like, and so onyx becomes closer with frank by association.
thats most of their journey through hoh, and he helps take clytius down, which almost ends up killing them, but he also has his first real conversation with their mum.
he and piper get together in boo, and they become a lot more powerful after their confrontation with clytius, and he and hazel keep training together for the rest of the series
totally wiped out from writing this much, i have so many more details though!!! sorry if you thought this sucked and was bad 😔

So my idea if you accept it for a request is klaus x demigod daughter of Hecate reader and how it would be? Ps like the maybe the ready hate Elena and her friends and when they tried to kill klaus she beat them up and he’s totally taken by her?

I love everything about you.
Being the daughter of Hecate i was deeply respected by the supernatural community. I could pretty much take everyone out with the flick of my wrist so they liked to tread carefully.
These fucking mystic falls cockroaches however seemed to think they could do as they please when they please with no consequences. Elena the doppelgänger seemed to have some sort of invisible leash on everyone in that town, she had two vampire brothers tripping over each other for her, a blonde vampire who was at her beck and call and a Bennett witch who deemed herself ‘invincible’. Honestly, what in the underworld is going on here.
Let’s just say it was a breath of fresh air when the Mikaelsons came up, finally some people who weren’t ogling Elena. I knew who they were already of course, besides my mother was the one to grant Esther the power to create them. My mother’s most sacred animal is the dog, black dogs especially for some reason and so it only made me take a further interest when i witness Niklaus transform into a midnight black wolf. I followed him the whole two days he was a wolf, due to interest yes and also to make sure nothing happened to him, he could protect himself i know but still having a demigoddess watching over you is still an extra safety net.
He looked directly at me a few times but each attempt he made to near me was stopped when i would dissolve into a cloud of mist. His head would tilt and his ears would lay flaw against his head as he reluctantly walked away.
The next time i saw him was when he was in the smokey mountains, poor thing was trying to create more of himself, he just wasn’t seeing the correct picture to follow. I slowly approached him when he sat on a log, head in his hands and bodies piled around him as he waited for Stefan to arrive with a dead Ray. I sat next to him silently and gently rubbed his back, he tensed completely as her glanced up at me, confusion clear in his expression as he whispered a quiet “it’s you”
Not even a second later Stefan arrived and made myself vanish again. It was fun to watch how frustrated he became. I stuck around and went to Chicago but then i had to leave because Gloria started freaking out. She was all “you’ve brought a type of darkness with you” it was weird but like okay?
She couldn’t see me but she started chanting stuff and my mother told me to leave her be so i did.
Mystic falls was boring and Elena was a whiney about Stefan while also trying to fuck his brother, Caroline was always with Tyler and Bonnie was comforting Elena. Jeremy was alright, we spoke sometimes and he always served me at the grill, Matt does not like me one bit and i do not mind that at all.
Eventually Klaus came back and i wasn’t exactly expecting it. He had walked right into me or i walked into him but anyway i got mad cuz i spilt my drink on myself and thought it was gonna be like Damon or something so i started yelling
“can people in this town not look where they’re going for five fucking minutes!? honestly you would think a vampire would have a better sense of direction but noooo” i was wiping at my shirt aggressively until i realised the coffee wasn’t going to come out. I glared back up at the supernatural being to find those beautiful arctic blue eyes. His pretty pink lips were parted in an almost gaping way as he stared at me wide eyed. I felt my anger melt away as i studied the shock within his face.
“i’m… sorry…i wasn’t looking, i was upset about something… and was in a rush” he spoke slow and sounded uncertain
“oh, right well i shouldn’t have yelled. Come on, i need to put on a clean shirt and you can tell me about your problems” now yes i could have probably just made a new shirt appear on my but i didn’t fancy missing the opportunity to bring Niklaus along with me. He reluctantly began telling me that the little gang had brought Mikael to town, tried to kill him and then Stefan stole his family in coffins.
I invited him inside, much to his surprise, and started the kettle. I didn’t bother asking him to turn around when i changed my clothes and didn’t comment on his reddened cheeks as he swallowed thickly.
He stayed for dinner in the end and i managed to dodge any and all questions he tried to ask about who i was or how i knew who he was.
I drove him to the hotel he was staying at while his mansion was being built and even went as far to come inside and see how fancy it was. Let me just tell you it was nice. Real rich people shit.
I said goodnight but just as i was walking out the door his hand was around my wrist making me turn back to him
“yes?” i asked
“i don’t even know your name” he stated or asked?
“maybe next time Niklaus” i whispered before disappearing before him.
From that day i actually saw him quite a bit. Sometimes he even came round for food, he was at my door far more often than i had expected and never brought any threats with him, which was odd as in my experience when someone didn’t know what i was they were very demanding and liked to try and kill me.
I managed to help him get the majority of his family back, his brother Elijah was woken up and he then as a result woke the rest of his family. That night Niklaus stayed at my house…in my bed next to me. He had been sat on my doorstep when i got home with tear stains on his soft skin
“my siblings all hate me and my mother is alive” was all he whispered. I simply opened the door and lead him upstairs to my bed so he could lay down, I got ready for bed and got in with him, now i swear that we fell asleep on opposite sides but somehow we woke up with our legs tangled together, his forehead resting on my shoulder and my fingers in his hair.
He went home after breakfast however returning very soon after with a nervous smile and a box. He handed it to me quickly before vamp speeding away making me laugh at his actions.
The box held a gorgeous dress and an invitation to a ball… as his date.
I made sure to consult with my mother, she said that it was a great idea and he would be great for me, that was the last push i needed to know that i should be with him.
Once i arrived he was already in-front of me, pulling me through the crowd to introduce me to his brother Elijah and his sister Rebekah, he wasn’t sure where Kol and Finn were. They seemed thoroughly amused at his eagerness as they looked me over a few times
“you must be the girl he won’t stop blabbing about, at least he was telling the truth, you are remarkably beautiful, i think you’ll do just fine, come we can judge the other peoples outfits” Rebekah already tool my hand dragging me away from Nik and Elijah.
That night i was told many embarrassing stories of Niklaus, i was threatened by Rebekah not to harm him, Finn gave me some dodgey looked and Kol stared at me in utter astonishment. It was an interesting evening.
I got to dance with Niklaus though, he held me close and spoke quietly into my ear, the moment seemed so intimate. I felt safe and warm with him, his arms around my felt like they were protecting me despite my immortal status.
I ended up staying the night with him as well. There was moment where he seemed as though he was about to kiss me but he backed away and decided to show me art room instead. He was unbelievably talented and i made sure to express how impressed i was which he seemed to immensely appreciate and blushed ferociously at. I told him he was cute but apparently that offended him as he then chased me around the house until he tickled me near to death while i thrashed about on his bed. Eventually we fell asleep after many meaningless conversations that somehow brought us closer though i began to feel bad that i wasn’t sharing much about my past or what i was.
The next day i went home early as i needed to consult with my mother and the other gods/goddesses to see if they would allow me to tell him who i was. Once they agreed i went to the grill to find him. However before i could get to him i heard Damon, Stefan, Matt and Caroline all whispering in the alleyway outside
“Caroline you go in and try distract Klaus, he’s bound to go for you. Then Rick will dagger Klaus and we can grab Klaus”
i sat and waited for Niklaus to follow the blonde outside, i could sense his wariness as he suspiciously eyed the girl.
The second he brought his hand up to his chest as a sign of pain, Damon, Stefan and Caroline were all grabbing him trying to get him on the floor. I felt a rush of power as i flung them all in different directions, they sped back quickly trying to throw me at the alley wall. I got up unscratched and snapped Carolines neck with a snap of my fingers. Damon went straight to my neck and buried his teeth in, Klaus’s cry of agony had me ripping the vampire off me and creating a stake in my hand to impale him with before spinning round to find Stefan with a terrified look on his face and a semi conscious Klaus.
Suddenly Elijah was stood there with a grey looking Kol and was threatening them by sending Rebekah to murder Elena. I wasn’t paying much attention as i quickly checked for any damage to Niklaus. His eyes were wide and he seemed incredibly shocked but other than that he was fine. I pulled him up to stand on his feet before wrapping my arms around him and kissing his cheek
“i’m sorry, i shouldn’t have left you this morning, i shouldn’t have let them touch you” i muttered to him and he didn’t hesitate in hugging me back. I slowly pulled away and turned to his brothers, Elijah was clearly surprised as he glanced at the temporarily dead vampires and then back at me. Kol was practically buzzing where he stood
“I can not believe you are real! oh god can i have a hug to!?” I raised both my eyebrows and he threw himself at me and engulfed me into a hug, much to Klaus’s dismay as he growled and shoved his brother off
“what the bloody hell do you think you’re doing!?” he yelled as he pulled me behind him
“you don’t know who she is?? I mean seriously??” he whispered loudly
“She’s like a goddess” he muttered
“Demi-goddess but whatever” i added
“what?” both Elijah and Klaus questioned
“Hecate, you know like the actual goddess of like magic, witchcraft, the night, light, ghosts, necromancy… and the moon! She’s like real powerful, anyways that’s her daughter” he pointed to me with a wide grin and i let out a laugh at the astonishment everyone was expressing
“you know this is fun but maybe we should focus on the psychopathic mother of yours?”
“right… we can return to this at a later date” Elijah mumbled with a scratch if his head before dragging an excited Kol along with him
I turned back to Nik with a guilty expression
“i’m sorry i didn’t tell you… there are certain rules about telling beings from other realms our secrets and i needed to ask for permission. That’s actually why i left this morning, i asked and i was allowed to tell you…i understand if it’s a lot though, of course-“ I was cut off by the feeling of soft lips on mine, effectively shutting me up as i melted against him. Our lips moved together perfectly and it was as though something had shifted in the world, this was the person for me.
“believe me my love, this is just one more thing that i love about you” he whispered while breathing heavily
“i love everything about you” i replied quietly and he blushed once more as he smiled bashfully

The God and the Seer ~
Ivar the Boneless × the Reader (Hecate)
Chapter one is here..
Chapter Two: The Scotland Castle of Witchcraft

Story Summary~After the Seers death, Ivar seeks another Seer for not only him but for his people. But once he finds you, he finds more than just a Seer's gift.
**Hecate meaning~the Goddess of Magic, Witchcraft and Necromancy
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your kingdom was on an island, off of the main roads, surrounded by water. Your parents chose this kingdom because of how special and different your family was. Before you were born, your parents were feared and outcasted by the people surrounding Scotland. Your father was on a mission to keep his wife, who was carrying you in her belly at the time, as safe as possible. That was when he found a castle inhabited by a single man. His people abandoned him and it was just him, alone in a big castle. The king was old and harmless. The king was begging your parents to put him out of his misery. He explained how everyone he loved had joined the gods and all of his people left him to die. So with a heavy heart, your father agreed to allow your mother to cast him under a spell that would allow him to pass peacefully. However, your mother was fully prepared to do that anyways. Your mother trusts no one, except her husband.
When you were two, your mother became enraged by a group of men who were stalking your families kingdom. One night, while you and your father slept, she went out and tried to keep her family safe. By herself Your father could envision your mother captured by the group of men . They offered to keep her alive if they could rule over Scotland. Your father was considering it but your mother refused. She said "i love you. Tell Hecate I love her!" And just like that, she set herself, as well as all of the men, up in flames. Your father stood there, helpless. He could do nothing to save her. He couldn't protect her. But he will protect you. That is what he did. Suddenly you got too dangerous. But instead of letting you get yourself killed, he placed a spell upon you that he learned from his wife, when you were twelve. Not long after he put you to sleep, a king came to Scotland because he had heard rumors of your father's capabilities. His name was Ragnar Lothbrok and he was offering to take your father to his kingdom. He would have a place for him to sleep, feed him and in exchange he would tell him and his people about their futures. Of course, he agreed. Before he left, he kissed your face and whispered, "stay safe Hecate, stay strong." Now, you look at yourself in the mirror and you guess your age. Possibly in your twenties. Crazy.
...
You are still trying to wrap your head around what your mother had told you. You don't understand. You don't know how you could ever love a man who hurt you in such a way. You don't know the man's name, you can only see his face. He has bright blue eyes. You can't get those eyes out of your mind.
"Snap out of it Hecate. You have work to do."
You rummage through the castle, trying to find your mother's belongings: her spell books, her journals and her clothes. You find a drawer with all of her books. Bingo. You gather all of her belongings, put on one of her robes and took the books outside and sat by the waterways. You read and read until it was nightfall. The last words you read before your eyes got too heavy to keep open was 'Manipulate Minds and Mind Control'.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ivar has been trying to think of ways to find a new seer without anyone knowing and that has proven to be very difficult. He had no other choice but to ask Hvitserk for help.
Hvitserk "Why would i help you Ivar, hmm? You are the one who killed him-"
Ivar "I know that Hvitserk! Do you think that i have forgotten that quickly huh?!" Hvitserk doesn't say a word, only scuffs. "I regret it. I just have had enough of his stories!"
Hvitserk "He tells everyone what they do and do not want to hear Ivar. But most people do not kill people because they don't like what they want hear!" Ivar snickers, "What are you even asking of me?"
Ivar "I need you to travel to find her!" He snaps.
Hvitserk "Her?" Ivar pauses. He didn't realize that he said 'her'. "How can you be so certain?"
Ivar "I am not sure." He starts to crutch himself away from Hvitserk but he follows him. "When you-you asked me where to go i just.."
Hvitserk "You just what?"
Ivar "I could see her, sitting by water."
Hvitserk "A vision?"
Ivar "No-no, not a vision. It was as if i was sitting there with her."
Hvitserk "How is that possible?"
Ivar "I don't know Hvitserk. I have never experienced this before."
Hvitserk "What did she look like?"
Ivar "I could not see her face. I just saw her black robe, her brown hair..there were books all around her." He spoke with his hands to try to revision it.
Hvitserk "What did the area look like?"
Ivar "Scotland."
Hvitserk slowly nods, "And you are certain she is a seer?"
Ivar "No Hvitserk. I think that she is much more."
Hvitserk takes a few steps backwards, "What could be more than a seer?"
Ivar "We shall see, won't we?" Hvitserk does not say a word, just walks away from his brother. Ivar sits down on his thrown and Freydis joins him on her own throne.
Freydis "Oh, I've seen that face Ivar."
Ivar "Hmm?"
Freydis "You are thinking. I don't like when you are thinking for too long Ivar."
Ivar "I just saw some things a few moments ago that i can't understand."
Freydis "What did you see?" she asked in her soft, angelic tone of voice.
Ivar "A woman. She was by water, just reading." Freydis just waits for him to say more but he does not.
Freydis "That is it?"
Ivar slowly nods, "I don't know why i saw her. Why the gods showed me her."
Freydis "Everything happens for a reason Ivar. Not everything will make sense until they come to be." He smiles softly at his beautiful wife and kisses her knuckles.
Ivar "You are right, my sweet. Let's eat hmm?" She nods and she leaves him to go order the chefs to cook them a meal. As soon as she left, his smile faded and a concerned look fell upon his face. He couldn't get her out of his mind the remainder of the night. As soon as he closed his eyes, he saw your face.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You awoke as soon as the sun ray kissed your cheeks. You grown as your sore bones and muscles crunched on the rocks.
"Shit.." you try to stand but your legs feel as if they are broken into pieces. "What?.." your legs don't work anymore. This is impossible. You've always been able to walk but all of a sudden, you lost the ability? How can this be? You try to push through the pain and stood up. But as soon as you attempted to take your first steps forward, you fell face down into the freezing cold water in front of you. You scream and you crawl your way out of the sea. You use your arms to crawl your way out and back onto the rocks.
"What is happening to me?! WHY IS THIS-"
Ivar's POV (in his head)
"HAPPENING TO ME?!" He looks around him as if he is searching for you himself, that was how loud and clear he could hear you. But of course, you were not there.
Ivar "Freydis!" She rushes over to him.
Freydis "Ivar what is it?!"
Ivar "Why were you screaming?"
Freydis "No one was screaming Ivar."
Ivar lets his crutches fall.
Ivar "How? I heard screams!"
Freydis "Maybe you should go to bed Ivar.." he tries to control his breathing and tries to control his thoughts. He slowly shakes his head and starts walking his way to his room.
Hecate's POV:
You crawl your way back to the books, trying to find a spell to help your legs. You try to move your legs to fold back into your body and your bones break. You scream out in agony..
Ivar's POV:
His braces fail him and he falls to the ground. His bones have be broken once again. Freydis rushes to his aid but he pushes her away from him.
Freydis "Ivar, your legs!"
Ivar groans, "They..they broke?! They haven't in months!" This is impossible. It is as if someone is feeling what he is feeling but vise versa. What is happening? Why is this happening?
7 Anti LO Asks
1. i dont want to assume anything, but i REALLY find it rather disturbing on rachel and her view of the world if the most evil person she can think of is "mentally ill poor woman who everyone hates for existing and is punished/potentially killed for doing the right thing" while the people deserving of love, respect, and sympathy are the rich elites who includes one that happily owns slaves and literally steals the wages from his employees. like what the fuck is that?
2. Ok like I looked at the pilot on the Wikia and Hecate tells Hades that Persephone is 19, hits him, then when Hades says he loves Persephone, Hecate is all for them being together! And saying "we'll finally have a queen!"
HECATE! Why happened to being mad at him and telling him Persephone is 19! Talk about a 180 in 10 secs!
3. It would be funny (and frustrating) if Apollo ends up being sent to Tartarus and tortured anyways even though he’s a major god of the pantheon and RS claims that her comic is just an alternate retelling
4. you know i get its supposed to look like theyre wearing really shiny lip gloss but because there is no defined lip shapes or even breaking points in their skin to show where lips end and start every time LO shows us their mouths it just looks like the women are slobbering and drooling. like they look so MOIST. WHY.
5. If they go with a Prometheus style punishment, they’d probably go beyond with a Ouranos style punishment and castrate him so he can “never hurt my innocent Persephone again” *rolls eyes*
Because Apollo performs such an important job, they can’t exactly punish him like they did with Prometheus.
6. unironically lo hermes and persephone are a better suited and realistic ship than lo hades being with anyone, tbh. lo hades needs to stop being a creep and claiming a sheltered college sophomore is his "soulmate".
7. i get LO is basically built off "cliffhangers/twists" so she doesn't want the readers to "guess" what's going on, which is like?? It's not a bad thing if the readers get whats happening and can see where it's going, that's actually a sign of good writing. If it's something well known like mythology, you make the known fates have an effect when you build up the relationships and characters. TSOA and Hadestown both do this really well. You can't go off names, you need to make us actually care.
The Wrath of Life
Light. Light of all colours in rainbow except for purple. Surrounded by a golden aura. It was beautiful yet he is afraid. When he tried to touch it. It burned him. Causing him screech a unholy sound with repeated phrases like. "Sinful creature and True spawn of hell."
There was a knock at the door.
Do these people have a life outside of bullying me?
He thought as he opened the door. Except that the person was not who he is expecting, in fact he doesn't think he has ever seen him before. Before he could the stranger's name. He barge in straight to the guest room. "What a lovely house you two have, Nightmare." He said putting down his things . "Do you mind if you can run hot bath for me?" He asked.
"Um. First of all I don't even know you. Second you can't just go to people's houses and expect them to treat you like royalty. " He said crossing his arms. The stranger look at him. "I thought Dream already told you about me." Nightmare thought of what Dream said before he left. "Neil?"
"That's me."
"Hold on if you are really Neil then give me proof."
Neil removed his cloak. Revealing that the cat has lost an arm. Nightmare felt guilty. " Don't put on a sad face little boy. You are just being protective of your home, and that I applaud you." Neil woke Nightmare with his thoughts. Neil then smile. " I guess I forgot that Dream told me you're not very trustful with strangers." Neil scratch his head "Speaking of which , Do you happen to know a person name Hubert Cumberdale or better known as Salad Fingers?" Nightmare gulped. It's been awhile since he seen Hurbert his first and possibly only friend. Last time he ever saw him was the time he had to take Hubert to the asylum. "Yes. I've know him." He answered.
"Hubert wanted me tell you thank you." Neil responded.
"For what?" Nightmare asked. He doesn't remember giving Hubert any kindness in fact he thinks what he did was horrible. "Because of your actions Huber is now married with a beautiful wife they had a lovely child." Neil responded. Nightmare sigh in relief. " So I was worry for nothing?"
"Yup. Now can you please run me a hot bath?" Neil responded. Nightmare decided this time he would run him as hot bath.
~~~~~
Dinner was not like what he was expecting. Instead of him cooking it was Neil. But at least it was good. Baked beans with roasted ham. With a cup of wine. He felt comfortable knowing the person living with him for a while is friendly. "Hey Night, what time is it.?" Neil asked. Nightmare looked outside. "Well it is dark." He said. "Well time for me to hit the sack." Neil got up and went to his bedroom.
Maybe I should go to sleep as well.
Nightmare thought. He took of his shirt. Brush his teeth with a dry corn cob. And went the his bed. Falling asleep as soon his head hit the pillow. However instead of his normal nightmares this one felt wrong. He was wearing the same clothes Moon was except it was mostly black and sliver. He has markings all of him and he was behind a female paladin. Her skin was kissed by the sun itself. Her short hair looks like fire and her eyes were a red and yellow gradient.
"Sun. Is something wrong?" He spoke, but it wasn't his voice. The paladin said nothing. "Sun?" The paladin turn with a flaming sword in her hand. "What are you doing?" He said backing away slowly, but the girl's eyes turned snake-like. And she jumped to him. Stabbing him with her blade. He quickly got the blade off of him screaming. "WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?" The girl didn't answer. Instead she showed her snake-like fangs smiling. He knew this was a fight so he summoned his unprepared scythe. The girl called for help claiming Moon was a traitor again and all the women that came looks familiar. "But Sun. Didn't Moon said-" One of girls tried the reason. "She lied to us again." She cut her off. Nightmare felt betrayal, but he doesn't understand why. None of the girls responded and attacked him. One tore his mask and shot him in his missing eye with a arrow. A mix of magic and weapons overpowered him. He knows he can kill everyone if he takes his gloves, but he made a vow to never used his bare hands. So he decided to do the next self defense. By placing a cursed on them. One where they are trapped in limbo. He place his scythe on the ground and chant in latin. However the paladin attacked him in the back. He felt his life draining from him as he hears a man scream. "Mi Nina." He shut his eyes for the final time with the feeling of wrath and sorrow.
Nightmare woke up in a cold sweat. As he looked around he saw that the scythe Moon gave him was with breaking. Eventually turning a bit bigger with a moth at the bottom.
What just happened?
He thought. Maybe another vision? He eventually fell back to sleep. He'll think about it in the morning.
~~~~
The autumn harvest festival has arrived and Nightmare put on his more regal garment. Neil was getting a few beers and the townsfolk had forgot he existed. He was thinking about looking into the lore of the festival until a mysterious stanger showed up wearing strange garments. She was pretty however. Skin that was kiss by the sun, flaming hair that's been put up by a high ponytail. A gold-red mask covering half her face, but not fully her scar.
The priest was the first to got up to her. "Hello madam." He said.
"Olá" She responded. "Huh?"
"I said hello in my native tongue." She answered.
"Oh. Anyways What a pretty thing like you brings in our beautiful village?" He said.
Here he goes again trying to groom someone.
Nightmare thought as he rolled his eyes. He look at her again and felt off. Like he met her before.
It wasn't long till she spotted him. She walks towards him. Later squinting her eye. "M-Moonie?" She asked almost crying. Nightmare felt awkward. "No, I'm Nightmare." He said. She blinked. "Oh my mistake, you just reminded me of an old friend of mine." She said as she walk away whispering "Eu sinto Muito.".
Why do I feel unsafe around her?
Nightmare asked himself.
"You best keep an eye on her." Nightmare heard a familiar voice. He turned and saw Nox in disguise.
"What are you doing here?" Nightmare asked. "Errands." Nox reply.
"Hey, Nox can I have a word with you?" Nightmare asked. Nox set the large sack he was carrying down. "What is it?"
"That's scythe Moon gave me. Is it perhaps any chance curse?"
"What makes you say that?" Nox reply. "Last night I had a dream where I was murdered. But it wasn't me at all." Nightmare answer. "Maybe the scythe didn't like you." Nox said. Nightmare could feel the jealous aura coming from Nox.
What's make that scythe so important to him?
He thought. "I think there's something that you're not telling me. In fact ever since we first met I could sense you have some grudge against me and I don't know why." Nightmare said. Nox glared at him than he towered over him getting ready to punch him. Yet he didn't. Instead he just sighed. "Moon's soul stuck in it. And I don't want anything bad happen to him." Nightmare had seen this behavior before. In both real life and in his books mostly his romantic novels. "Are you telling me that you're..." Nightmare begin. "No. Not like that." Nox begins to plea. "In love with him?.." Nightmare finished. He's no love expert, but He can tell Nox is in love with Moon. Nox blushed a purple hue before covering his face. "Look me and Moon first met we had a rocky beginning. I was task with killing death by W.D Gaster. I would have succeeded if that man didn't spot me. When we met again It turns out that both of us aren't so different after all and.." Nox stops himself and put his arm around his chest. "He was the only person I could talk to about these feelings of hate on being born with a uncomfortable body." Even though Nightmare can't understand he felt bad for Nox. "So what do you think about that dream I had? Does it mean something?" Nightmare asked trying to change the subject. "I don't know myself. And I read all of Moon's books and scrolls." Nox answered. Nightmare watch Nox pack up. "Where are you going?" Nightmare asked. "Home. Hecate freaks out being alone at midnight." Nox replied. Nightmare took a breath. Then music became louder and more vibrant, with the lights and fire becoming brighter and more warm. He turn and saw the stranger dancing with the strong man. Something doesn't seem right. Usually the strong man would refuse to dance for anyone, but the little girl he was targeting. And he could've swore he saw scales of a snake on the stranger. The stranger later took the man to a small alley. Nightmare thought that the man is just showing her around town. So he didn't pay much attention. He decided to try out the bobbing for apples he saw a couple of people did. He should known better than to trust everyone when they pushed his head into the water. Luckily the little ones are making smores next to its fire they made themselves so maybe he can rest there. As he headed to the campfire the little boy with the abusive mother grabbed him. "Nightmare, I don't feel comfortable with that girl."
"What girl?" Nightmare asked.
"The girl dancing with my mom." The boy pointed out. Nightmare took a look and saw that the stranger with the boy's mother.
Wasn't she with the strong man?
He thought. He turned to boy. "I'll keep a close eye on them while you have fun with your friends. Alright?" The boy nodded. Nightmare walks towards the dancers, but made sure that both of them can't spot him. He watch as the stranger convinced the abusive mother to go to the alley. Once there the stranger carefully removed the other woman's clothes. Nightmare thought they were going to court with each other so he turned away embarrassed. Even if he wasn't there the two women would eventually be found, and be hanged for committing homosexuality witchcraft. He left to tell the boy he might be getting two moms if they can convince the court. To his surprise the boy didn't pay no mind to it. In fact the boy just ask if it's okay with God. He doesn't know how reply due to him not being religious. So they change the topic. Eventually Nightmare forgot about the stranger. Later he got tried and decided he had enough partying for tonight. As he went back home he heard a scream next to him. He turn to where the scream was and saw the unimaginable.
Everyone that danced with the stanger died in pools of blood and a demon snake mantis fire thing licking some from her hands. Nightmare backed away slowly until a woman scream caught the creature's attention. She smile and dash past Nightmare and grabbed the woman and begins to feast on her. By making her paralyze with the vemon in her fangs. Then she gutted her with her teeth. Later riping her limb from limb until she was nothing more than a pool of blood. Worst of all everyone saw it. While Nightmare ran.
Is that a Solarite?
He thought, but someone grabbed him and push him towards her. The Solerite took notice and held him down. Nightmare closed his eyes and hope that the death will be quick, except it never came. Instead she froze in place and is beginning to cry blood. Then stopped. "Você conhece o Nim?" She said.
"W-What?" Nightmare asked. "I said. Do you know Nim? You know that apple tree dryad?" She said.
"Yes. She's my mother." He said. She glared, but not at him. "Essa vadia...I know she would do this. But never to her own son." She muttered. "Nightmare, did you summoned this..thing?" A man yelled. "No. I barely even kno-" He was cut off. "As if you weren't evil enough you destroyed a sacred ceremony. " Nightmare look down.
Are they that stupid?
He thought. "Wait, I cause the massacre. Not him. And how is he a part of it?" The solerite asked. "Didn't he summoned you?" Someone else asked. "No. I came by going on a boat by myself. " She answered. "Well he bleeds black blood." A woman said. "I have a close friend who bleeds black blood and he would never harm someone unless he has too or is provoked." She replied. The solarite stood up and allowed Nightmare to stand up. Then she put her hand on his shoulder. Surprisingly it didn't burn him. "Are you a scapegoat?" She asked. Nightmare took a deep breath. "Yes." She turns to village. "Raise your hand if you still think he cause the massacre?" Not surprisingly almost all of village raise their hands. "Good thing my pets love barbecues." She whispered. "Now come to me if you think he is innocent." All the children and some of villagers came forward despite their loved ones pleas and threats. She came up to them and pat them all on their heads. Later did the same to Nightmare. "Who are you?" Someone said. The solarite smile. "I am the wrath of life." She said as she turns into a snake and begins slithering away. Many tried catch her, but she was too fast. And those that did hands were burnt to a crisp. Nightmare took the opportunity to run. He went home grabbed Moon's scythe and spent the night at the in-hill. Planning to talk to Moon about her and about that dream.
Phoenix, Son of Hades and Persephone
Warning: Contains foul language! And toxic behaviors mentioned in passing.
Phoenix had come to Auradon to be closer to his father. Hades had been upset for a long while and his mother Persephone had sensed Hades’ pain so gave Phoenix a nudge to go to his father. Phoenix hadn’t needed much nudging as he didn’t quite fit in back home. Or one could say, liked home very much.
In his escapades as a youngster he was fine being the bottom and that made others think he was weak. It was just how they thought of such behavior, and he had grown tired of being approached for that sole fact; which was well known about him. Especially after Apollo’s bastard had decided to lead him on then stab him in the back by outing said fact by saying Phoenix never actively sought out to be on top. Oh, he had almost killed the demigod. That had been a form of social suicide. He’d get to suffer mockery for ages thanks to that little bastard.
On the day he’d left he wrapped him in a rose bush and left him gaged in a garden covered by the roses then growing a tree up around it. He heard eventually Helios had pointed out where the brat was when Apollo had started to look for him. Of course Posiden had pointed out being a demigod even if Zeus’ grandson he’d insulted Hades’ full blooded godling, and thus though furious Apollo couldn’t punish Phoenix. whom had been very smug upon reading his mother’s letter. She’d applauded his creative way of taking care of his anger towards the other godling without hurting him too seriously. Phoenix would be hard pressed to admit he had wanted to hurt the other. He just... Couldn’t.
When he’d arrived he’d wandered around lost and uncertain where anyone was, was there some sort of assembly going on his father neglected to inform him of? Yet Hades rarely forgot such details; he tended to plan well when he did plan at all. Phoenix eventually found them, drawn to the sound of music he sees a large crowd in a graveyard and he spot his father’s hair, grown out and tied back the blue striking in the sea of more ‘normal’ colors. he walks closer and hears a man speak he has a clear accent, it’s french, at least Phoenix thinks it is; he’s not too certain never having lived outside Olympus.
“I know many here knew the man we say goodbye to today, so I shall keep my part short, as many will wish to say words I am sure, such as how dare he leave in this way. Though, I digress, Sir Cogsworth was many things to many of us, a mentor, a friend, a pin in the side... But to me he had been an anchor. I would never have been able to make it through my life without Cogsworth by my side to keep me and the other staff of the castle in order. He was focused we keep everything in order in at least the best shape we could, and it made the years as an animated wax stick trio bearable...” He paused a moment laughing sadly along with several others. His expression is pinched and he looks like he struggles to speak before he clears his throat. “So I must say, I am not pleased to loose you friend, but I am glad you shall no longer be in pain, so I bid you au dieu.” He had turned to the coffin leaden with flowers and did a flourished bow and stepped down walking off to the side pulling out a handkerchief rubbing at his face as he leans against a tree. The posture reminded Phoenix of someone wanting to hide. Phoenix moves closer trying to slink through shadows as he grows lilies gathering them in his hands; a collection of white, yellow and blue and walks up to the man.
“I’m sorry for your loss.” Phoenix says softly wincing as the man startles he looks over blinking and smiles flourishing the handkerchief he tucks it away to effect a proper façade. Phoenix frowns, he shouldn’t hide his emotions just for his sake, and offers the flowers having removed the pale pink ribbon he used to tie back his hair to tie together the bouquet. The man paused in shock looking at the rather stunning flowers he accepts them and takes a deep breath.
“Thank you, though I don’t recall seeing you, are you a new arrival? If so I apologize you’re introduction is such a sad thing as a funeral.” The man says and Phoenix smiles sadly, he never had been to one, though he’d heard about many from Thanatos. He wasn’t to sure how to properly react, except he knew these tended to be sad affairs.
“Some might call it fitting given my father is Hades. I am sorry though... He seemed to mean a lot to all of you.” Phoenix says giving a small half smile and shrugging a bit worried he’ll seem as out of place as a snake in a hen house. Lumiere chuckles sadly looking out to the coffin, a young man stood there and seemed to struggle with words a moment before saying something softly in french and quickly going to a woman in a black dress with her long brunette curls pulled back and held behind her with a golden rose clip.
That must be the Prince and his mother Phoenix realized, she had warm brown eyes hidden behind a dark veil and she looked as upset as everyone else, though she gently pulled her son close rubbing his back as she whispered to him. The boy was around his own age and had eyes alike but not to his mothers, Phoenix had seen both green and brown, so the Prince had hazel eyes, not quite one or the other color, somewhere in the middle. Though when Phoenix had seen him he’d look distraught like he couldn’t think and had panicked while standing in front of the crowd. At least Phoenix thinks that’s what happened.
“Ah, poor Ben... This will be the first funeral he’ll remember.” Lumiere says softly sadly and Phoenix frowns and feels horribly out of place. The idea of death was so foreign to him. He’d never had to worry over it as there were few things or beings able to kill a god, and until now he’d not really known anyone with this looming fate either. This was going to be a new and not wholly good learning curve.
“Ah, there’s you’re father...” Lumiere notes looking oddly calmer now the tired worn look brightening up a bit. After many had come and gone Hades steps up and he looks behind him at the coffin and places a crystal flower down, it’s a white rose. He looks out at the crowd his expression carefully neutral. Phoenix knows that look, his father only ever had that expression when he struggled to control his own emotions. Though he could see sadness echoing in his father’s eyes the only cue in his face was a slight furrow of his brow and the tight jaw.
“I am not comfortable speaking before all of you, but I felt the man we’re saying goodbye to deserves to hear what I have to say. He was a very honorable man, one I admired and those have been few, fewer were those who impressed me quite like Cogsworth. He was a loyal friend, a hard worker, and a stubborn goat when he felt like putting his foot down. I had hopped to get to introduce him to my son, but instead I must say goodbye to him instead. You will be missed but your memory will be cherished and you deserve your rest.” Hades says turning and nodding to someone though no in the crowd sees them. Phoenix watches a shadowy figure he doesn’t know who watches looking upset but they smile and Thanatos nods back to Hades before offering his hand and slipping away like a wisp with the figure. Phoenix wonders if he should say anything.
“I wonder...” Lumiere says gazing where Hades had looked and Phoenix sighs and swallows feeling uncertain and shifts on his feet.
“Dad made sure he knew you’d all never forget, Thanatos will make sure he get’s ho- I mean... Er...” He isn’t sure how to say it... Home to him yes, but most here might call it hell, or something equally bad. Lumiere smiles at him, though it clearly subdued he shakes his head.
“Non, non, home is right little one. He’s home now.” Lumiere says blinking tears away though they slide down anyway he takes out the same handkerchief and dabs them away and Phoenix wonders at it, he hasn’t really seen many people he knew cry. He’d cried plenty but it was odd to actually see it. He isn’t going to cry, it just felt sad to see this crowd in clear pain over a loss he was sure hit hard. He doesn’t feel the same pain they do. The crowd looked a mix from anywhere of open grief to cold stony expressions hiding sad eyes. He couldn’t fathom it, he knew that, but his sympathy still went to these people. He worries for his father, was this why he was so sad lately? Watching humans he had come to like grow old and pass away, all the while staring out over an island that held a daughter that he’d likely never be able to meet?
Phoenix quelled the sudden anger at his father’s position, it wouldn’t do to get angry he’d end up growing a thorny plant and hurt someone. Which he both doesn’t want to do, as hurting people wasn’t an answer and it would get him in trouble. He had heard magic wasn’t looked on too kindly here in any form though he found it annoying they’d call his powers magical given they weren’t magic.
He had no pact with anything to allow him these abilities, he was just able to control plants in a way no other creature on the world could. Well, save other gods or nymphs tied to nature, though his was more potent than a nymph he wasn’t as good at it as his mother. He didn’t conjure things he willed them to grow, either from his own pool of energy or by touching a plant and encouraging it to bloom. He preferred the latter as it took less energy and was faster, but if he were to grow them on his own they could be anything he imagined.
Magic was something that was specific, Hecate had told him that though gods seemed magical truly they were just powerful primordial beings able to control things in a way that was passed down to them from their Titan parentage. Magic was a separate power to the differing abilities the gods had and she then showed him many of her own tricks which all seemed like all and none of the other gods powers. As a child he had always loved being around her as she would twinkle lights about her and he’d spend hours playing with them as one or both of his parents were busy. Then again most understood magic as just power beyond normal human ability... So he supposed he couldn’t argue that without getting a headache or giving one to someone else.
“Ah, you’ve meet Phoenix then, Lumiere, I hope he has been on good behavior?” Hades asks stepping closer and leaning on the tree as well to watch the people as the coffin was lowered and slowly buried. He looks tired but when he looks at the frenchman his expression softens and his eyes glow with a fond light. Phoenix catches it immediately. Maybe his father has a new lover? Almost all the gods and even goddesses tended to be polyamorous though there was a huge difference between being so and going behind one’s lover’s back and having a fling. He hated the way Hera reacted towards Zeus’ dalliances but then again she wouldn’t make a step that would make her look like anything less than the perfect wife. Even if it meant tormenting the wrong side of her husband’s affairs.
Many had begun to disperse from the graveyard and Phoenix was surprised by how much smaller the crowd was now. Fewer than half stayed including the royal family ruling over Auradon. Lumiere shrugs slightly he just seems tired now though he gives a half-hearted smile Hades’ way.
“Ah, he’s been a very polite young man. Though I think he’s a little confused by what to do in the face of so much grief.” Lumiere says and Hades looks over worried and sees Phoenix’s icy eyes clouded in worry his form shifting side to side as he tried to hide his discomfort. Hades moves and pats his son’s shoulder gently smiling softly at his son.
“You’ve never had to deal with this, Gia willing we don’t have to have another service any time soon. Sympathy isn’t something bad to have; it makes you like your mother. Thankfully you’re not apathetic like me.” Hades says and Phoenix both loved hearing that and didn’t. He wanted to be compared to Hades more often he always heard how much he was like his mother, as nice as it was, becuase his mother was a wonderful goddess, much calmer and less prone to rash flights of fancy that may end up as tragedy for humans than most other gods and goddesses.
His father was just as amazing in his eyes. Hades was strong and stern, true; prone to make mischief, and make brash choices like his brothers, but he also was less prone to doing things that caused strife among humans nor was he outright spiteful of them like creating gorgons or other creatures that would often attack humans on sight. Based on Phoenix’s understanding Hades had the best track record out of his siblings really. Or at least a cleaner one by comparison. He didn’t understand why it was avoided comparing him to his father. He had similar eyes, blue; though his were brighter a more icy form of his fathers stormy blues.
“So it’s not bad I wasn’t crying?” Phoenix asks still confused though he wasn’t upset about it he wasn’t sure if he shouldn’t be crying. He didn’t know the one everyone had said goodbye to after all so he shouldn’t be upset wouldn’t the tears be seen as odd? Hades nods and pats his shoulder and pulls him into a half hug against his side and Phoenix leans into it relaxing a bit as he tries calming his emotions. Even as confused as they were. If there was one thing that wasn’t fun about being a god was how emotions worked with them. According to several gods their emotions were less restricted than other races. When they felt, it was something they felt strongly and it was often hard to contain it, whether it was joy, grief, or anger. Even weird amalgamations of said emotions.
“Hades.” A man says and Phoenix assumes him to be King Adam becuase his father looks less than happy to talk to him. The man is a tall and broad blond, a stern look to him with cool blue eyes, not quite ice chips but they certainly weren’t warm like his Queen’s.
“King.” Hades says back curtly. Phoenix notes his father’s posture stiffens and he brings up a mask of indifference and mild displeasure.
“Is this Phoenix?” The woman the young Prince had gone to asks, so Phoenix is certain she must be Queen Belle. Hades nods though keeps his attention on the King. Both seemingly trying and glare the other into cowering.
“Hello, Queen Belle, I presume?” Phoenix says trying to smile though he’s uncertain and does a slightly jittery bow sure he’s messing up as he isn’t sure how customs are here. He just bows slightly and inclines his head as he did with Zeus. She chuckles though it’s a bit hollow and curtseys and he blushed not sure he was owed the courtesy. After all his title wasn’t much out of Olympus and Greece. The Prince even bows and he tries to smile though it’s more a wince, his hazel eyes though pretty don’t glimmer they’re dull with pain. Phoenix wants to brighten them, he doesn’t like seeing this other young boy upset.
“Yes, I wish we’d have meet with some nicer circumstances. Oh those are beautiful Lumiere.” She says eyes brightening a bit at the sight of the vibrant blooms. Phoenix shrugs not certain how exactly to address that with the royals. He didn’t mind he just hoped them the best in recovering from the loss. Lumiere had been easy as he hadn’t realized who he was at first. Though he flushes at the compliment to the flowers he’d bloomed.
“Phoenix here gave them to me with his condolences.” Lumiere explains smiling at the flowers the look less stressed than earlier. Hades looks over curious as he looks first at the lilies then smiles that tired air stuck to it.
“You’ve gotten better at growing them.” He says making sure to catch Phoenix’s gaze the two silently survey the other checking for any cues of distress and Phoenix smiles though it’s weaker than his usual.
“Mother says that they’re almost prettier than hers now. I don’t believe her though.” Phoenix says shrugging looking at the blooms, they might be exception specimens of they’re variety but they didn’t give off that paradise like aura his mother’s plants would.
“Growing them?” Prince Ben asks looking curious, seeing an opportunity to distract the boy Phoenix leaps at the chance for a smile or at least a distraction. Phoenix looks at the wilting yellow rose in the Prince’s pocket and grows a fresh new one and swaps it. He sees the King go tense expression growing almost angry and looks to his father worried he’d done something wrong but Hades had moved a hand out to grab the King’s shoulder glaring at him.
“Oh, that’s cool.” Ben looks amazed and Phoenix pays more attention to the other child to ignore how he feels like he messed up. “How’d you do that?” Ben asks and Phoenix spins the dead rose between his fingers back and forth. He could rejuvenate it but it wouldn’t last long, and would eventually only cause it to decay faster each time he tried to bring it back to it’s former lush vitality. If it had roots it would be another story. So long as the plant was still able to grow he could influence it’s health for as long as it remained able to grow.
“I can grow things like my mother, Persephone. She’s the Goddess of Spring. I can also become a shadow like Father but I haven’t figured out how to really do that...” Phoenix explains and Ben is wide eyed asking him all sorts of questions Phoenix answers without a second thought, at least both of them are distracted. Ben asked questions about what The Underworld is like, if he knew certain gods and so on so forth. Phoenix was unsteady at first, not used to anyone being so actively interested, but easily grew fond of Ben. The other boy was compassionate and when he cared he cared deeply, the draw back was his naivety. Ben tended to believe in and look for the good in all things. Phoenix adored it about him but also hated it. People especially those in Auradon would certainly attempt to take advantage. Not to say Ben was stupid, just... Soft. Phoenix felt strangely protective of him, and that feeling only seemed to solidify the longer he spent time with and around the Prince.
Phoenix slowly grew fond of the kingdom as much as he hated the similar way people preened for power like back home it was no where near as toxic, people there still had good hearts and had a habit of reminding people when to shove off when they over stepped their boundaries. He makes a few friends though it’s tentative at first. Being friends with Ben is difficult as it earns him ire from everyone around him. Except a few. Queen Belle, Fairy Godmother and Lonnie are very encouraging all around of him and the steps he takes to separate himself from a few negative stereotypes associated with greek gods and goddesses. He fights constantly to subdue his emotions as it could be hard not to grow angry when someone would start up behavior they so viciously condemned in Auradon, yet seem prone to all the same.
He is allowed to grow plants without penalty as it was best he use the energy on something given if he is left idle too long he looses control over his power and it will grow plants rampant around him. Control at least full control eluded him at his young age. He could grow things on command but if he didn’t use the ability to flex it it would just build into excess growth in the general area. He worked on it with both his father and Fairy Godmother but he couldn’t seem to find a way to work it out.
Hades had suggested that perhaps Phoenix just wasn’t able to due to his mixed nature, given Persephone was a fertility Goddess and nature oriented while he was fire, shadow and death/spirit oriented. He was a King of wealth and all beneath the earth while his wife and Queen was a goddess of what grew through it and above. Phoenix was a strange middle ground. He could become mist and shadow like or even summon fog around himself but it was rare to manifest and often only if he were afraid. He had much better grasp over his nature abilities.
“Life here isn’t nor will it be easy... And it kind of hurts to see the Isle and know my sister’s out there... But, I think I made a good choice coming here.” Phoenix says softly to his father. Hades just stares out over the water and seems to distracted to notice at first.
“I’d hope so, you’re stuck here or Olympus anyway.” Hades reminds him and Phoenix nods with a heavy sigh. It was true he couldn’t really travel elsewhere. Not until he could control his powers fully. Then he could travel about without one of his parent’s oversight.
“At least here more toxic behavior is curbed and pushed out of the public areas. Unless of course said behavior is common, but there’s enough good here I don’t feel like I’m trapped and need to lash out at everyone near me to breathe.” He says kicking a rock and Hades rubs his back staring over the Isle. He says nothing but Phoenix knows how his father feels. It hurts but it’s easier to deal with here rather than at home. It’s not so much a weakness here as accepted unfortunate circumstances. He does hope to meet his sister one day though, most likely she’ll hate him. He couldn’t blame her though, if he’d have grown up in a cage he’d likely hate anyone on the other side of the bars too.
@hereliesdeedee for the aesthetic, they’re amazing at making these and they put a lot of work into making me the one above for Phoenix Prince of The Underworld son of Hades and Persephone.
What if My Hero Academia Characters were in the Riordanverse pt. 1: Students
Yeah, yeah, this is just MHA students for now, I’ll have other characters soon, okay! Anyway, here’s MHA students of 1A and 1B (including Shinso) as demigods in the Riordanverse!
Yuga Aoyama: Son of Aphrodite. Not even a good one, unless you need someone blinded by his glitter-gun. Oh yeah, he has a glitter gun with lasers for maximum flare. Is he completely over-the-top? Absolutely. But is he good in a fight? Surprisingly, yes, kind of very, turns out glitter confuses monsters very well.
Mina Ashido: Daughter of Hermes and legacy of Hecate, capable of inhuman movements and can produce a slime that magically dissolves anything. She also tattooed her eyes black and yellow for some weird masochistic reason that no one, including herself, doesn’t understand. She’s still neat though.
Tsuyu Asui: She’s a frog-turned-human by Ochako. She still has her tongue, leaps, hops, camouflage, a reversible stomach and poison that can kill a group of whales. And he can still inflate her throat like a balloon, which makes for good scares. Very good scares…
Tenya Iida: Son of Mercury, he never skips leg day. Never. Seriously, have you seen those legs? He could crush a car with those puppies! Or crush monster heads with those thunder thighs! Which he actually does quite often. He doesn’t skimp out on upper body exercises either, but LOOK AT THOSE LEGS OF THUNDER!
Ochako Uraraka: Daughter of Hecate, she specializes in a set of spells that manipulate an individual object’s or being’s gravitational pull. It’s gotten to the point where she makes anything she touches with five fingers on one hand, it will float, no matter what, which is why she wears gloves all the time. She likes floating whoever she finds particularly annoying way up into the sky.
Mashirao Ojiro: Son of Mars, he’s an expert martial artist and very, very good at multiple of them. He’s lost multiple sparring partners because of his profinity with a number of weapons, and his lethality without any weapons. Seriously, he once defeated a Drakon with his bare hands! And another dead drakon’s teeth!
Denki Kaminari: Legacy of Zeus and Apollo, each by about 50 generations. About as bright as his godly ancestors (not very), but he still makes one Hel of a lightning bolt, and he’s also pretty good with a guitar and lyre. And classical literature and culture, like Apollo’s Kettle, who taught him all that?!
Eijiro Kirishima: Son/creation of Vulcan, his blood and skin are pure liquid gold, bronze and diamond he can infinitely harden for a period of time. It also obtains unnaturally sharp edges, and given his tendency to go hard when excited, he has made his friends frequent the infirmary for cuts and broken ribs.
Koji Koda: Son of Actaedon, he can talk with wildlife. He’s also a Legacy of Heracles, hence his size. His hugs are nice, war and gentle. Unless you’re an enemy, his bear hugs can break spines and it’s fucking terrifying.
Rikido Sato: Son of Mars, this guy has a serious sweet tooth. He’s also surprisingly gentle for a guy that can decimate an opponent with a single hit. Oh yeah, he can one-shot a hellhound with one punch (que the epic op) to the head.
Mezo Shoji: Son of Ares, he’s surprisingly level-headed. And malicious. Seriously, this guy always has at least ten different weapons on him, on top of him knowing a variety of potentially lethal moves. His arms are known as the Anacondas for a reason. Well, he lost his two precious anacondas in battle, but now he has six bronze automaton anacondas, fuly articulated and loaded up with all kinds of weapons for maximum effectiveness in battle! Actually fuck that, he’s way more terrifying now, who let him get all that stuff?!
Kyoka Jiro: Daughter of Apollo, she’s a top-tier musician, singer and is moderate with a bow and arrow. She can whistle in the ultrasonic range, clap like thunder, sing and play like either a sweet little bird or a whole-ass heavy metal choir without ruining her vocal cords, and she gives the opposite amount of fucks that Zeus does (ie. zero).
Hanta Sero: Son of Hermes, he inherited a pair of magical tape dispensers that can dispense any tape in any amount of any properties he chooses. He uses them to swing around like Spider-Man, which made him a regular visitor of the infirmary until Momo made him a special harness to keep his joints from dislocating. Somehow, he still gets his shoulders dislocated.
Fumikage Tokoyami: Son of Erebos, he suffers from split-personality disorder, but it’s fixed nicely by his inner demon incarnate made of pure darkness he calls Dark Shadow. They have a strangely healthy and wholesome relationship for a boy and his literal inner demon, and they even help each other (or embarass, take your pick) in social interactions.
Shoto Todoroki: A Legacy, descendant of Hel and Surtr, capable of making ice that freezes fire, and fire that burns ice. He gives so little shit he’s actually oblivious to social cues, which makes for more than a few funny moments on quests with him.
Toru Hagakure: Legacy of Iris, she can manipulate light around her to turn invisible or project bright flashes. Campers often say hi to her even if she’s not there just in case.
Katsuki Bakugou: Son of Ares, with rage and instincts of combat so strong and powerful he can convert his sheer rage and passion into explosions in the palms of his hands. He generated more than one explosion with the explosive yield of a nuclear weapon in his life. How he hasn’t gone deaf yet is beyond most people, though he does still know a variety of sign languages in case he does go deaf.
Izuku Midoriya: Son of Athena that was gifted the Spartan Spirit, a powerful enchantment formed by Kratos, Nike, Bia and Zelus, to protect humanity in its greatest times of need, and bestowed upon the most well-meaning and kind-hearted individuals of an era. He ends up breaking his bones an absolute shitton, and is a regular at the infirmary. The healers and smiths absolutely loathe him by now.
Minoru Mineta: Died on a quest. His quest-mates say ‘by accident’. Everyone knows it was very deliberate, but then again, everyone hated him and is fine with him dead. Some people wanted to be the ones to kill him though.
Momo Yaoyorozu: A Legacy, granddaughter of Hephaestus and Athena, capable of making virtually any machine. She’s also very fidgety, and once made an entire army of fully autonomous grass soldiers that went on to terrorize the other campers for a bit. In thirty minutes.
Yosetsu Awase: Son of Hephaestus, he also likes to make stuff. Though mostly he combines already existing tools, gadgets and machines, and makes weird amalgamations. He once fused an automaton bull, an automaton dragon and a school bus, and it actually, somehow, despite all logic and reason, fucking works.
Sen Kaibara: Son of Ares, he’s pretty chill compared to his kin (especially Katsuki and Setsuna), mainly due to him bottling up his anger. Which he can unleash as tornadoes around his limbs, which he can use to drill through walls. Thank gods he doesn’t lose it too often.
Togaru Kamakiri: Son of Ceres, he likes farming tools. Especially ones with blades. That’s lead to him using all kinds of sickles, scythes (both farming tools and war scythes) in combat, and even axes, shovels, various lawn mowers...
Shihai Kuroiro: Son of Nyx, him and Tokoyami get along exceptionally well. Given his ability to shadow-travel and use shadows and darkness as materials to make some pretty nifty weapons only he can use, he’s strangely bright and like a Sun. At least among the two stepbrothers of darkness, and the bar for eing the sunny one is set very low.
Itsuka Kendo: Daughter of Athena, she excels in critical thinking and a variety of martial arts. And knocking out her piers with precise attacks when they start to get exceptionally annoying. Mostly Monoma. Scratch that, especially Monoma. Okay, nevermind, only Monoma.
Yui Kodai: Daughter of Trivia. She excels in potions and spells that manipulate the size of objects, so much so that she has to resort to gloves because she now naturally makes things smaller with her left hand, or bigger with her right hand. She’s the calm one of the 20 people here.
Kinoko Komori: Daughter of Demeter, she has a soft spot for fungi and mushrooms. Which she can make grow rapidly. Very rapidly. She’s fun at parties.
Ibara Shiozaki: Daughter of Demeter, she dyes her hair green with actual chlorophyll for some reason (“To feel one with the beautiful plants,” she says), but she can also grow and manipulate vines and other vine-like plants, along with trees, quite effectively, and she has some rose and poison oak (she’s immune to it) seeds in her hair. Don’t ask, her answers are just as ridiculous as the chlorophyll-dyed hair.
Jurota Shishida: Son of Mars, he’s been cursed by most likely Hera to be a humanoid boar/dog thing. He’s especially good at wrestling, and is very diplomatic in his approach. Until he gets pissed, then he charges like a boar and yes, he keeps those tusks of his sharp.
Niregeki Shoda: Legacy of Hermes, son of Hephaestus, he likes to make explosives and plant them everywhere. More than a few campers were scared. Except Katsuki, who tried to outdo the ground (Niregeki’s mine) in explosive yield and put skylight access in the roof of Bunker 9. Niregeki had to repair it.
Pony Tsunotori: Legacy of Poseidon, she can shapeshift. She likes to shapeshift into horses, bulls, deer and goats (including mooses and buffalo), and she has a nifty gadget from the Hephaestus and Vulcan campers in the shape of horns that transform with her, giving her detachable remote-control horns.
Kosei Tsuburaba: Legacy of Jupiter, son of Ares, he’s competitive and can make walls and blades out of air. Especially annoying for monsters because they can’t get to him, period, and every time they try, they don’t get past his walls of air for a whole minute before someone either cuts/hacks/slices them to bits, freezes/burns them alive, blows them up with their fists/explosives/expanding stones they previously ingested or some other way of disposing of a monster.
Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu: Son of Vulcan, capable of turning to pure steel over his entire body, also increasing his strength. Because of this, and his tendency to go hard whenever he’s excited, he’s made his friends frequent the infirmary for bruises and broken ribs. Except Kirishima.
Setsuna Tokage: Daughter of Ares, she’s actually been hurt pretty badly in one of her fights (she went on a Quest with Katsuki, and no, it wasn’t him who hurt her, and yes, no one really believes that story either) and had to have automaton grafts to replace her limbs, a part of her lower jaw, her eyes and the muscles around her spine, along with parts of the vertebrae. Which she asked to be detachable and splittable in as many pieces as possible, which she can control telepathically and uses to troll other campers. A lot. Especially two certain sons of Vulcan and her half-siblings.
Manga Fukidashi: No one knows what he is, they just know his head is a speech bubble and he can make anything he writes real.
Juzo Honenuki: Legacy of Gaia, he can virtually liquify the ground (does not work on metal or wooden floors). He trolls a lot with this ability. And I do mean a lot.
Kojiro Bondo: A golem? A person? His head makes it hard to tell whether he’s a demigod or a monster to be honest. And his glue-like spit doesn’t help much either.
Neito Monoma: Legacy of, you guessed it, Zeus! He has a superiority complex because of this, and he frequents the infirmary on the basis of Itsuka or whoever he was annoying KOing him constantly. All that brain damage probably isn’t helping his mental issues…
Reiko Yanagi: Daughter of Hecate she can make things she touches float and fly around using some sort of incantation. The biggest she can do is double her own body weight, but that doesn’t stop her from delivering high-speed flying punches and scaring other campers.
Hiryu Rin: Son of Mars and Legacy of Poseidon, he can shapeshift into various animals. Most notably a mix of human, hedgehog and a lizard. Sharp, painful and deadly precise. And also meditating. And a lot of it.
the fall part seventeen - the sky is falling
basic summary: exactly what is says on the tin.
trigger warnings: stabbing, hypnotism
tagslist: @synonymsforzombie @spicydanhowell @skyewardlight @dreaming-of-stories-and-stars @cest-mellow @graveyardlettuce @lower-your-expectationss (i got so fucking close to forgetting the tagslist again but!! i remembered are y'all proud!!)
well, this certainly wasn't normal.
it looked like the sky was made of colourful lava. that was the only way marvin could think of to describe it. trails of thick magma looking chunks falling and hitting the ground, almost glitching but never actually harming anyone. it seemed that none of the nomags could see it, which wasn't surprising, given the veil, but with the way it had been collapsing recently, it had affected them in other ways. the nomags were starting to glitch the same way that anti did, the way everything seemed to do now that jackie has fucked things up. nothing stayed still anymore. marvin was really beginning to worry.
"if it's not hurting anyone, then we're ok," chase said to him uncertainly, holding louise and connor close to him. "right?"
chase had called stacy already, but she had no clue what was going on, the veil seemingly shielding her too. "why can't mama see the falling sky?" connor had asked him, and then the lot of them had tried to figure out why louise and connor could see through the veil when no other nomag's could. chase was certain it was just their blood relation to him, and the reason he could see it was his blood relation to marvin, jackie and henrik. none of them were quite certain how that worked, but they honestly had bigger problems to deal with right now.
the first call marvin had received was from naomi. "have you seen the fucking sky?" she shouted immediately, and marvin pulled the phone away from his ear, wincing. "it looks - it looks like -"
"sky lava?" marvin guessed. "and there's no need to shout, i'm right here."
"sorry," she said, much quieter. "and i was gonna say "fire clouds," but lava i guess i can see. anyway, what the fuck is this shit? is it to do with jackie again? i'm trying to contact lucas, but he won't pick up."
marvin sighed, listening to chase and henrik attempt to reassure connor and louise about the sky. difficult to do when none of them knew what was going on. "lucas was round with us for a while, but he left a few hours ago. he was texting chase not long ago too, so don't worry. i'm gonna try to contact kazuki or someone else from hecate, katy or charlie or mateo, just someone. hopefully we can somehow sort this."
"ok, ok," naomi said slowly. "ok. unrelated, but - i think anti was just round at my shop? asking for your address?"
marvin frowned. "when was this?"
"like, five minutes ago, not even. he left before i saw the sky and called you." something clattered on her end. "shit. so what's up with him? he was acting so weird."
marvin was about to answer when he saw a sleek white car pull up outside, and blinked when he saw who was inside. "naomi, i think i might have to call you back. i'm pretty sure kazuki just drove to our house."
"kazuki?" naomi asked. and sure enough, a tall woman in jeans and a perfectly sized white hoodie had stepped out, making eye contact with marvin through the window. marvin furrowed his brow, throwing both hands up in a what the fuck? gesture.
"yep, it's her," he said, stepping away from the window and marching towards the door purposefully. "i'll call you back soon. love you."
he clicked off and threw open the front door. kazuki was already there, chin lifted and a serious look on her face. "mr mcloughlin," she said. "i take it you've seen the sky."
"i have, yes," he said, raising an eyebrow. "never seen you dress so casually, kaz. the world must be ending."
"ha, ha," she said dryly. "i got dressed quickly. and don't call me kaz. now, the main problem." she waved a hand upwards. "i believe this is -"
"- to do with jackie?" marvin sighed. his eyes flickered to the ground. "it always is, isn't it."
kazuki nodded grimly. "may i come inside? the clouds are on fire and i have gotten three hours of sleep. i may need coffee."
marvin stepped aside to let her in. "i was just on a call with naomi. she actually said the same thing about fire clouds. personally, i think it looks like sky lava."
"naomi who?" kazuki asked, marching briskly through the kitchen. chase, connor and louise looked up in shock, and marvin shrugged, grimacing. "also, that's ridiculous. fire and lava don't even look the same."
"uh, hello," chase said faintly, blinking. "nice to see you here, uh - connor, louise, this is miss kamata. she's a magician like uncle marvin."
at those words, connor promptly leapt from his papa's lap and bounced up to kazuki excitedly. "oh, oh, you do magic too?" he squealed. "can i see? uncle marvin does such cool stuff, he lights his hand on fire and makes cool shapes appear in the air like uncle jackie does, only uncle jackie is way better at it and he can draw glowing dragons in the air!"
kazuki raised an eyebrow at the boy, who was practically vibrating with excitement. "well… i do air magic. i make things fly."
connor's eyes bulged, and his jaw dropped so far his mouth formed a perfect o. "no! way!" he gushed. "that's - that's so, so cool!"
chase chuckled, tapping the table to get his son's attention. "come on, con. miss kamata is busy right now. maybe you can see another day, but not now."
connor deflated. "these fire clouds are ruining everything," he mumbled, slinking over back to his father's lap.
marvin took that opportunity to restart his conversation. "it's naomi gudmundson," he explained. "agrokinesis magician? she's with hecate? how can you not know your own members?"
kazuki had recovered from connor's brief word dump, and was now leaning against the washing machine, shrugging. "i may know her. i recognize the last name, and i doubt it's all that common here. anyway, that's not what i'm here to talk to you about."
"are you here to talk about the the fire clouds?" louise piped up, to everyone's surprise. as soon as she'd said it she snuggled back on her father's lap, watching her legs swing under the new kitchen table. kazuki smiled at the child softly.
"i am," she said. "i do believe your… uncle jackie may be involved in this. are you…" she hesitated, and glanced towards marvin. she lowered her voice. "what do they know?"
"they think he's moved away," marvin whispered. "chase panicked. we couldn't just tell them - it would fucking kill them to find out what he did, so we told them he went to ireland for a while."
kazuki nodded, then turned back to the kids and smiled again. "your uncle might have come back. but… he's a little bit different now."
chase shook his head suddenly. "hey - hey, we don't know that," he said weakly. "he might not be - we haven't seen him since the incident at hecate, how would we know if he was coming back?"
kazuki gestured towards the window. "fire clouds," she deadpanned. "this isn't normal weather magic. it's something to do with the veil and we only know of one person who's been involved in that."
"jackie can't have anything to do with this," chase said firmly, seemingly having forgotten about the kids on his lap. "i've seen his magic, me and henrik both, it was nothing like this. i don't give a fucking shit about the goddamn veil. this is all -"
he suddenly remembered himself and flushed, shoulders shooting to his ears. "uh… don't use any of the words papa's using right now," he said quietly. connor and louise just looked at each other and giggled, bouncing on chase's legs and making him wince.
"i'll take them," henrik said, getting up quickly and clapping his hands. chase smiled gratefully, and the kids happily bounced to their feet to follow their uncle out into the hall and up the stairs to the kid's room, leaving marvin, chase and kazuki alone. a short, awkward silence followed.
"sorry for - that," chase mumbled, not looking up. "i'm stressed and being an asshole. god, i think i'm getting a fudging migraine too, christ."
"it's alright," kazuki said, also not looking up. "this is a lot. i have hecate members attempting to track the source of this whole sky thing, but there… doesn't appear to be one. it's everywhere. although, a few people have told me they are detecting some sort of magic signal somewhere. but apparently that's untraceable too, because of course it is." she sighed, flexing her hands and blowing hair out of her face. "i… i don't know what to do now. and i don't say that often."
marvin bit his lip, clicking his tongue softly. "mm. i - don't know either. i mean… i guessed we just have to wait and see what happens."
and they did. about fifteen minutes of small talk and awkward tea/coffee drinking passed, the three of them politely discussing everything but the weather as, funnily enough, that wasn't a great topic to help distract them from the issue at hand. however, they were all surprised to hear someone knock at the door, breaking the silence. marvin looked to the others for confirmation on what to do. both of them shrugged. marvin rolled his eyes and cracked the door slightly, startling when he saw who it was on the other side.
"anti," he sighed, breathing out slowly. "not sure who i was expecting. this is a bad time, man."
anti just raised his eyebrows. he looked worse off than when marvin had last seen him: hair yanked behind his ears, a bruise on his cheek, yellow scarf even more dirty looking. "i take it you've seen the sky lava?"
marvin gave a small, disbelieving laugh. "i fucking knew it looked like lava! kazuki, chase and henrik are saying it looks like fire -" he caught himself. "anyway. yes, i've seen it. kinda hard not to, wouldn't you say?"
anti shrugged. "i don't know, i'm partially colourblind and didn't notice until the bloody meteors or whatever started falling. speaking of, the things might not hurt, but they are very annoying. can i come inside?"
marvin threw his head back and sighed. "this shit again? seriously? i said it was a bad time." he wasn't sure letting anti in while the kids were here was a good idea, even though they were upstairs with henrik and most likely wouldn't hear or see anything. "can't you… i don't know, go bother… whoever it is that you bother when you're not fucking with us?"
"whatever people i bother when i'm not fucking with you are dead," anti signed flatly. his eyes flickered from an orangey brown to a dark blue, and marvin resisted the urge to step back. for a moment, he looked just like jackie. "i don't have shit else to do, and as much as i despise coming to you for help, i don't have much of a choice these days, do i?"
marvin suddenly frowned. "man, are you ok?"
anti blinked. "why?"
"i - you're shaking," marvin pointed out. "i don't know, you just… kind of look like you're in the middle of a panic attack."
anti scoffed and rolled his eyes despite how pale he had gone. marvin could hear his quick, laboured breaths from where he was standing. "no," he signed, like marvin was being ridiculous. "i'm fine. let me in, bitch."
marvin didn't believe him. but if henrik was upstairs, he figured it should be ok. first, he had a question. "why were you bothering naomi?"
anti frowned. "i... wasn't?"
"yes you were," marvin said. "she said you were just round at her shop."
"was not," anti scoffed. "i was halfway across town. walked all the way here. now let me in, i'm not used to feeling human temperatures and it's bloody baltic out here."
marvin sighed and finally stepped aside to let him in. anti slipped past and immediately froze, eyes wide and pupils dilated, fixed on kazuki still leaning on the sideboards. his hand immediately flashed to his side, bringing out a small switchblade and holding it out in front of him.
"woah - woah, anti, put it down!" marvin cried, jumping between him and kazuki. "she's not here to hurt you, we're just trying to figure out what's wrong with the sky, nothing more, ok? let's just - calm down, ok?"
anti didn't move. despite his uninterrupted trembling, his hand was steady on the knife. kazuki had barely flinched at his reaction, and stayed very still so as not to alarm him. "i'm just here to help marvin, anti," she said gently. "i'm not planning to hurt you, even after your little escape. i swear. i know you've been through a lot, and i'm not going to make it any worse for you. if it helps any, i'll stay right here so i won't scare you."
anti's face contorted with anger, but he couldn't sign while holding the knife, and after a moment he flipped it closed and put it back in his pocket, not blinking. "you don't fucking scare me," he spat once he'd freed up his hand. "you're just another pathetic fucking magician who relies on others to do your work for you. i could kill you even without my magic and the use of one of my hands."
marvin didn't translate any of that. "ok, so now what?" he said instead, glancing out the window behind kazuki's head. "sky's still going and we don't know why. kaz - kazuki, are you sure you don't know anything?"
she sighed, closing her eyes for a second. "sit down," she said, gesturing towards the table and pulling out a seat for herself. "i might be able to try and explain."
marvin sat down across from her and chase, who was on his phone and had been silent this whole time. he turned round to see anti still hovering hesitantly, hands hanging in the air. marvin pat the seat next to him. "you can sit down," he said, trying to keep his voice light. anti slowly shook his head, eyes darting back and forth to the door behind him, and marvin decided it'd be best to leave him be.
kazuki cleared her throat. "so. that necklace your brother has… i recognized it before i even saw it for that split second in new romney. i'm not sure of its actual name, but i am aware of its uses. i believe… it's some kind of soul holder."
everyone went very quiet for a moment, until marvin spoke again. "ok. please elaborate."
kazuki took a breath, tapping the table with her fingernails. "well. many years ago, there were all sorts of black magic artifacts that were used to enhance, give or take power. those who later split from hecate wanted to use that magic. we - the rest of us told them it was a bad idea. eventually, when the split happened, we took as many artifacts as we could and destroyed them." she let out a small sigh, closing her eyes. "it seems that some were… left. i'm not sure how many they still have, but jackie has gotten a hold of one and given his lack of previous black magic use, it seems that it's becoming too much for him to handle."
"you said soul holder," chase suddenly said, the first words he'd spoken since anti had arrived. he rubbed his temple, wincing. "are there… different types of these artifacts? and how do you know this one does, uh, whatever you think it does?"
she nodded grimly. "there's a few types, yes. some destroy. some kill. and some… do what your brother's one does. i believe that it takes souls into the necklace and, well, holds them there." she leaned her head back, sighing. "i can't think of a better way to explain it except that it's… hundreds of years old. who knows what types of magic has been contained in it? what people? we have no idea how powerful he could be."
anti suddenly clapped his hands, drawing their attention to him. "so hold on," he signed, still using the one hand. "this bitch has stolen a part of my fucking soul and that's how he's using my magic?"
kazuki looked to marvin, who loosely translated for her. once he'd finished, she sighed and glanced up to anti again. "i'm afraid so," she said. "from what i've seen, that's all it could be. i'm very sorry."
"motherfucker," anti signed, which marvin chose not to translate.
just then, they heard loud yelling from upstairs, and two sets of pounding footsteps racing down the steps above. "papa, papa!" the voices of two children cried, giggling all the while and getting louder as they got closer. "papa, uncle henrik just showed us something super cool, look, look -"
the children ran into the kitchen, laid eyes on anti, and froze.
anti didn't move.
there was a long moment where connor and louise just stared at him, confused looking. marvin held his breath, making eye contact with chase across the table. neither man said a word.
it was connor who eventually spoke. "uncle jackie?"
henrik appeared in the doorway behind them and also froze. "christ, him again?"
"oh!" louise suddenly shouted. "it's the london man!"
"oh yeah!" connor cried, grinning. "the man who wasn't papa who took us to london!"
"took you to london?" kazuki said, frowning. "what do you mean?"
"we're seriously just going to let him in yet again?" henrik said angrily, glaring at marvin. "seriously? after all the times we agreed not to trust him?"
"listen, i didn't want to," marvin argued. "but in case you hadn't noticed, circumstances are slightly different now -"
"can everyone just shut up?" chase suddenly cried, clutching his head and leaping to his feet. "i have a bloody migraine and god, you're all so fu- so loud, christ, i'm…" he shook his head and marched over to the door, grabbing a brown jacket off the coat rack. "i'm going for a walk or something, fire clouds and sky lava be damned. i don't… i'm done with this." he turned to face the room, which had gone very quiet. his eyes landed on henrik. "henny, will you come with?"
henrik hesitated, glancing at the kids. "it's - i don't know if it's safe, and -"
"i'll look after the kids," marvin said quickly. he smiled at chase reassuringly, who smiled back. "be safe out there, if you really have to go out. and be back within, like, ten minutes, preferably. please."
"we will," chase said gratefully. he opened the door and stepped outside. "thanks, marvy."
marvin flinched at the name. only jackie calls me that, he thought, but chase and henrik were gone before he could say a word.
-
"so where are we going?" henrik asked, practically jogging to keep up with his brother. chase was walking very quickly, which worried henrik slightly, especially given that he'd said he had a migraine. however, he brushed off his concerns with a small laugh. "slow down, chaser. i'm not in the mood to - ha, to chase you."
he could tell something was wrong when chase didn't laugh at his pun. "sorry," chase mumbled instead. "i'm just… feeling weird. i don't know… it's too much."
henrik slowed, heart suddenly racing. "uh, chase? i think we should go back. if you're feeling this unwell -"
"no," chase interrupted, and it sounded almost like a sob. his eyes were oddly dark. "no, i can't. don't - leave me."
he sped up the pace, leaving henrik to race after him. "chase - wait!" he cried. what was happening, why was he acting so strangely? he got the feeling this wasn't a normal migraine at all. "chase, slow. where are you going? chase!"
they rounded a corner, and chase suddenly stopped dead. his expression had gone totally blank, eyes wide and unfocused. his mouth was hanging open very slightly, hands dropped by his side.
henrik waved a hand in front of his face, breathing quickening. "chase? bruder? hello, are you -"
"henrik," came a voice from behind him. henrik's blood suddenly ran cold. "you're just in time for the show."
-
this was beginning to get very awkward.
marvin had attempted to usher the kids back upstairs, but that would leave kazuki and anti alone in the kitchen, which not only was a horrendous combination of people to leave alone, but was very rude to do. so they were now sitting in the living room watching octonauts on the tv, with marvin dithering in the doorway between the kitchen and the hall, trying to keep everything and everyone together. thankfully, connor and louise had stopped questioning anti's presence as soon at the familiar theme tune had started playing, leaving marvin to mostly focus on the other two. anti was pacing the kitchen ignoring kazuki, who was trying to talk to him. it was starting to become slightly annoying.
"is your arm still hurt?" kazuki was saying, as anti pretended he was suddenly deaf. "i can try to help if you'd show me it. we have healers in hecate - in fact, isn't your brother a healer? the doctor?"
"not my brother," anti suddenly signed. he flipped his hood up over his head, turning his face away from them. "fuck off, gods. always in other people's business."
there was a sudden noise from outside. a bang, like an explosion. kazuki stood and followed marvin to the window, looking outside to try and figure out what it was.
"i don't see anything," marvin muttered. the sky looked the same, and nothing seemed to be out of place. "what the fuck?"
"uncle marvin?" connor called from the other room. "what's going on?"
another bang sounded, and this time they could see a plume of black smoke rising over the buildings not far off from where they were. "ah, crap," marvin hissed, hands flying to his hair. "chase and henrik - we have to go after them, they could be in trouble."
kazuki shook her head. "the little ones," she reminded them. "we can't leave them alone."
connor and louise had padded into the hallway to see what was happening, eyes wide. marvin hesitated. he needed to make sure henrik and chase were safe, but he could need kazuki's help, and anti obviously couldn't stay with them. "oh - i don't know!" he despaired. "i - i have to see they're ok."
"papa and uncle henrik?" louise said softly. she was clutching her sonic teddy in her hands, her bottom lip quivering. "we wanna go make sure they're ok too! did the sky dragons get them?"
marvin glanced back into the kitchen at anti, who had stopped pacing and was staring out the window in there, and then back to kazuki, who looked slightly worried. he hesitated. "kazuki - can you stay here with them?"
"me?" she sounded shocked. "i - i am the leader of hecate's international network of magic, and right now there is magic related events happening that i need to -"
"please, kaz?" marvin turned to her with wide eyes, pleading. "just for a little bit? please, i'd owe you so so much, i just can't leave them alone, kazuki…"
kazuki inhaled sharply, then blew the air out her cheeks, groaning. "fine! you better not be long. i don't think i'm all that good with kids."
marvin threw his arms around her briefly, grinning. "thank you so much, kaz, i owe you!" then he turned to the confused looking kids, smiling at them. "kazuki is going to look after you two for a little bit, ok?"
"can we see the magic?" connor gasped. he grabbed louise's hand, squealing. "louise, we get to see the magic!"
kazuki laughed nervously, making a face in marvin's direction. "yes, i can show you some magic. let's go in here, uh - the living room, yes? what's this playing on the tv?"
marvin took the opportunity to leave, pausing at the door to look at anti. "well? are you coming?" he asked. anti jumped, and marvin raised an eyebrow. "come on, i'm not leaving you here alone."
anti shrugged, but followed him out the door, marvin locking it shut behind him. the smoke plumes were rising even higher, and the resounding booms were still sounding from not far off. "fucking hell," marvin muttered. anti glitched in agreement. "let's hurry up and -"
"marvin! marvin!"
he recognized the sound of chase's voice immediately. "chase!" he raced down the pavement, struggling not to slip as he followed his brother's voice. "chase, chase - shit!"
because fuck, jackie was standing in the middle of the street with aaron by his side, henrik and chase standing in front of them and staring blankly, eyes black and unfocused. it was such a scene that all marvin could do was stare. taking it in. his brothers, hypnotized, standing in the street, just… here. he couldn't breathe.
anti made a loud choking noise at the sight of jackie, taking an unwittingly step away. jackie smirked at him. "aw, anti, good to see you again. are you seriously afraid of me now? i thought you were above fear, isn't that what you told me once?" he laughed, and turned to marvin. his black eyes flashed coldly. "hello, marvy."
"jackie," marvin blurted. his chest tightened, taking in his older brother's form. his hair was shorter, almost as short as henrik's, and he was wearing a black jacket over a dark grey hoodie. so unlike his normal colourful clothing. it made marvin's head spin. "jackie, what have you done to chase and henrik? let - let them go, please."
jackie inhaled, dragging out his breath and tilting his head back. the silence was fucking deafening. all marvin could hear was the blood rushing in his ears and the silent, agitated hum of static rising from anti's direction.
"i can't do that," jackie said softly. "i have to protect them. from him, and apparently... from you."
marvin's heart stopped. "what do you mean?"
jackie laughed harshly. "look at you. you're with him, aren't you?" he nodded towards anti, a look of disgust crossing his face. "this pathetic, glitching mistake of a being who's brought nothing but harm on our family, and you want to befriend him. clearly, henrik and chase aren't safe around you if you're willing to put them in such constant danger."
"you're - you're more of a danger to them than anti is right now," marvin stammered, trying to keep his voice steady. "jackie, this isn't you. you're not like this. please, listen -"
"i don't think it's up to you to decide who he is, magician," aaron interrupted. he was leaning on a bright blue bat, grinning cheekily. like this was a game. marvin didn't spare him a breath, keeping his eyes trained on jackie.
"this is… the black magic talking," marvin faltered. his hands felt very warm. he hadn't used any magic since he'd nearly hurt chase, and he was suddenly scared. "jackie, this is the black magic talking. we - we can get it out of your head! we can! you - we - this can be fixed, ok? just let our brothers go and we can help you."
jackie's expression softened. "marvin," he murmured, and marvin took a shaking breath, hope rising in his chest. "oh, marvin. i'm so sorry. you… you really believe in me, don't you?"
anti growled, the sound of static spiking. jackie grinned at him, and for a moment marvin couldn't see him any differently than the man who had always been so sweet to him, the man he'd called his brother. then it vanished, and jackie was a stranger, sneering at anti's rising rage. "i did miss you, aiden. five months is a lot of time to bond! we were so close, wouldn't you agree?" he laughed, a real, loud laugh. "and put the butter knife away, unless you're planning to make toast."
marvin had been so thrown by the "aiden" comment that he hadn't noticed anti taking out his switchblade again. it took a second for marvin to register what anti was about to do, and by then it was too late. "anti, no!"
the knife was flying towards aaron's face before marvin could blink. but the man was ready; his bat was raised to his face to block the blade in an instant, a swoop of magic covering his body. jackie stepped forwards and threw his arm up, creating a black shield to cover for anti's sudden attack.
"stop it!" marvin screamed as anti kicked out at jackie's shield, knocking him off balance. aaron immediately lunged for anti while his back was turned, and marvin made the split second decision to throw out a burning hand and shove aaron back, standing between the two of them.
aaron flashed a white grin. "you don't have to be involved in this fight. really, just let us take the glitch and you and your brothers are free. why is that such a hard decision?"
marvin gave a breathy laugh. "oh, i wish i knew," he said, and let the magic in his body loose.
he had been so afraid of this. of his magic exploding the way naomi's had. but now, he suddenly hated everything about this man, this smirking blonde idiot who'd helped take jackie away from them. he hated him and his magic reflected that. great swirls of concentrated power that wrapped around aaron and squeezed him, making him gasp. but it didn't last. aaron lashed out, and a solid black whip hit marvin in the face, burning into his skin. he screamed in agony, dropping his own magic to fight against the pain. aaron laughed and knocked marvin's legs out from under him, kicking him down to the ground.
he could see anti fighting - trying to fight - against jackie above him. jackie had seemingly overpowered him easily, lifting him into the air without even touching him. "pathetic!" he giggled, darkness trailing down his skin from his eyes and hands. "aiden, aiden, you used to be so powerful. what happened to you? oh, wait." he tossed back his head and roared with laughter. "i did, didn't i? it's funny, cause i'm powerful enough without your weak ass magic in my body. i don't even need it. but i truly do enjoy the irony of being able to do - this!"
a glitch ran through jackie's body and through his wall of magic, reaching anti and throwing him to the ground like a ragdoll. he slammed to the road beside marvin, crying out as his back cracked. aaron turned to jackie and straightened, his boot digging harder into marvin's chest.
"well, that was easy," jackie joked, grabbing aaron's hand. the two of them laughed for a second, and marvin managed to slowly turn his head and make eye contact with anti. turquoise eyes meeting brown. it reminded marvin of the day he'd freed anti from the music shop basement, of the exact moment jackie had discovered that marvin knew. the shared moment, the single shared thought.
we're fucked.
but they'd gotten out of that situation. and how had they done that? oh, oh, shit. he remembered. he remembered.
"now what?" aaron said, as he and jackie leaned over them. anti weakly tried to get up, and aaron whacked his chest with his bat to make him fall back. jackie grinned at him, the two sharing a knowing smile.
"well, now i take the glitch and…" his expression wavered as he looked at marvin. "well, he can go, i guess. all we need is this guy!" he kicked anti's side again. "hear that, marv? you're home free."
he clicked his fingers, and marvin heard chase and henrik both gasp, collapsing to the floor. he'd almost forgotten they were still standing there, black eyed and hypnotized. hopefully they now wouldn't be conscious enough to see what he was about to do. "come on, anti, up you get!" jackie said cheerfully. he reached down and grabbed anti's right arm, delighting in his pained cry. "oops, almost forgot you were still injured! almost. right, let's go -"
"you forget a lot," marvin spat. jackie's head snapped round to look at him, and marvin scowled. "you get on at me for not noticing shit, but hey - i can at least remember what types of magic my brothers specialize in."
jackie didn't manage to get another word out before marvin unleashed a wave of the magic he said he'd never use again. his own black magic. not as strong as jackie's, but he knew how to control it better, and it was just enough to shock him and aaron away, leaving marvin a gap to leap to his feet and fight back again.
a second chance, he thought. don't waste it, marvin.
aaron made an instant dash for anti while jackie went for marvin, but he was too quick for them this time. a fiery shield rose up in front of him, and marvin managed to reach out a hand to yank anti up before one of them got to him again. "you ok?" he asked quickly, and anti managed a nod despite the clear pain he was in. marvin nodded back. "good. stay back."
more magic. so much of it, marvin wasn't sure whose was whose anymore. aaron was the one he was concerned about; he clearly had far more control and practice with his magic, and was forcing marvin back with hit after hit of his crumbling black whips that arched from his bat like a wicked extension of himself. marvin couldn't seem to take him out. he panted, cursing under his breath, beads of sweat dripping down his face from the exertion of the fight. he couldn't take them both at once. he wasn't sure he'd even be able to just take jackie if he had to. he couldn't do this, he couldn't, he just couldn't -
and then aaron fell back with a gasp, all his magic dropping at once. and anti, pale and shaking but grinning smugly, yanked the knife he'd picked up out from his back.
"butter knife," he signed painstakingly with his bruised right hand. "how's that for butter knife?"
"shit -" jackie gasped, but marvin hadn't let the distraction pass him by, and cried out a spell that froze jackie to the spot, wrapping him in a tight rope of magic. the spells were so exhausting that he almost passed out then and there - he hadn't used dark magic in so long, and it had really drained him. luckily, anti scrambled to his side and grabbed his arm, keeping him upright. his hands were stained with blood. marvin watched as aaron fell to his knees, clutching at his chest in pain.
"bastard," jackie spat, writhing to free himself of marvin's bonds. his eyes had melted back to their original blue, and they were wild, focused on aaron now groaning on the ground. "bastard, bastard, let me go, don't you dare hurt him! you have no idea what you've done! no i̢d̸ea ͝at all!"
jackie let out a frustrated scream, tearing at the ropes with both restrained hands. anti and marvin glanced at each other, stepping back silently as blackness seeped out from jackie's chest and began to form into a solid shape in front of him. marvin held up a protective arm in front of anti as something began to create itself, the magic knitting into the shape of what looked to be a person. over the roar of magic, they could hear jackie laughing. "this one's for you, anti!" he cackled. "have you missed him?"
and oh, oh, oh shit. it was a person. a real person who had formed from jackie's magic, a man with curly black hair and blank brown eyes, staring ahead at nothing. marvin heard anti's breath hitch at the sight of him, and a single look at him showed he'd somehow gone even paler, mouth hanging open slightly in disbelief.
"that's right!" jackie cried, looking pleased despite his current situation. "i've seen your memories, anti, i've seen -"
and then marvin saw -
"you're… you smell like magic," came a voice. it was him, the curly haired man, speaking with a warm scottish accent. "harsh, like fire, or an overheating computer." he snorted, trying to keep eye contact with - with anti, because anti was there, different looking. no scars on his face, no scar on his neck, hair much shorter and a dark green colour. "do you do magic?"
and then both of them were sitting in what looked like a park, eating sausage rolls out of paper bags, two guitars abandoned on their laps as they talked faintly, eyes sparkling. "you're a dumbass!" anti laughed, and marvin had never seen him smile so genuinely before.
and then they were sitting very close to each other on the floor in a dark room, a song playing in the background as their faces touched, eyes closed and lips brushing -
"stop!" marvin yelled, struggling to shake himself from the memories. anti had all but collapsed, clinging to marvin's arms and shaking badly, terror and anger both making rounds on his face. "stop, how - jackie, stop, why are you doing this?"
marvin's magic had faltered, leaving jackie to step out of the bonds and fall to aaron's side. he lifted him in his arms, looking worried, feeling the blood on the man's back. "because he ruined our lives!" jackie screamed, and his eyes had turned black again, tears gathering in them as he clung to aaron's unconscious body. "how, how can you stand to be near him? he deserves to be hurt!"
the curly haired man hadn't moved since jackie had formed him, but now he was crumbling, dissolving into black dusty magic and retreating into jackie's body. like he had been there for nothing but show. through it all, marvin could still see chase and henrik, passed out on the road. at least they were safe. at least there was that.
"please," marvin croaked in a weak last ditch attempt to stop this. "jackie, you're my brother, i love you, i don't want to hurt you."
"you see good in anyone," jackie whispered. the sky above was almost screaming now, the colours beginning to whirl above jackie's had. despite the noise, marvin could still clearly hear his brother's voice. "even him. even me."
marvin was about to say something - something, anything, he wasn't sure what - when he stopped, listening, smelling the sharp scent that was suddenly filling the air. like a storm, like rain. judging by the look on jackie's face, he could smell it too. he stood unsteadily, lifting aaron in his arms. "what the fu-"
the black magic still lingering in the air parted. silver sparks clearing the air, even clearing the sky above, warming everything and bringing about that smell, the smell marvin realized was familiar. he gasped, almost laughing as jackie whirled round, looking to see who it was who dared to challenge him.
a man. messy dark hair and freckled skin, a mustache underneath his nose. a dark blue hoodie hanging off of him. eyes that glowed silver, hands that glowed silver, magic that stayed suspended in the air, silver. the world seemed to stop.
jameson jackson.
"you again," jackie spat. he couldn't even raise a hand to defend himself with both arms wrapped around aaron, who had stirred slightly and was moaning in pain. "my god, don't you get a hint?"
jamie raised a hand in front of him, not saying a word. the threat hung in the air along with the silver particles of solid magic that carried the weight of time in them. he looked so tired. he looked so powerful. marvin almost wouldn't have recognized him.
jackie growled softly, looking back and forth between marvin, anti and jamie. he seemed to realize how outnumbered he was, and shrank back, hoisting aaron higher in his arms. "watch your backs," he hissed angrily, eyes blazing. then he was gone, really gone.
anti pushed himself off of marvin, swaying on his feet. he couldn't take his eyes off jamie, who had lowered his arm and let his eyes return to their usual grey. he was staring back. for a long moment, the two just stood there, unmoving. afraid to break the year long silence.
"jamie," marvin suddenly said. and it was hitting him now that this was really him, his little brother, the artistic time traveler who he hadn't seen in so long, who had just disappeared without a trace. "jamie, oh my god, jamie!"
he raced past anti and threw his arms around jamie, muffled sobs escaping his lips as he buried his face in the smaller man's shoulder. jamie hugged him back tightly, and then pulled away with a huge grin. "marvin," he signed. "it's you."
he looked over marvin's shoulder and frowned, pulling the magician over to chase and henrik, who were now starting to regain consciousness, eyelids flickering. "jackie did this?" jamie signed, concern flickering across his face. "help me, we have to take them home. they should be ok, but just to make sure."
marvin had so many questions he suddenly wanted to ask. but he instead lifted chase into his arms, helping him stand while jamie did the same with henrik. questions could wait. jamie was home. nothing else mattered.
and when marvin turned to say something to anti, he had disappeared.
end act three - mind games.
TVD 9x05 (part 3 of 3) Enjoy! =)
Cut back to the October 31st, 1886, flashback scene – New Jersey State Lunatic Asylum.
DOCTOR: (Infuriated) What do you mean the patient is gone?!!
NURSE: I went to get more medication and when I returned, she was gone. Doctor, I’m sorry, I don’t know what happened, she was fully restrained and sedated…
DOCTOR: You, incompetent fool! Do you realize what you just allowed to be released into this world?!! Leave, immediately!
NURSE: Doctor, please, I…
DOCTOR: Are you also incapable of comprehending words? I said, leave! (Nurse leaves, Doctor 2 enters).
DOCTOR 2: Doctor, what on earth is going on?
DOCTOR: We have a serious problem…
Cut to, present-day, October 31st – Freaky old mansion. Darius and a group of hooded people are in the backyard woods, doing some weird ritualistic ceremony. As the full moon rises, they gather around a Hecate’s wheel symbol and chant.
youtube
CHANTS:
Nos stare in lumine lunae.
Sanctifica eve est, ille est aditus.
Electus ortu tenebris est virtus.
Et infirmi erunt: et cum exarserit post ortum iluminati.
Cut to – The Mayor’s House. Edward is in the dining room, having dinner by himself. The black box he had received earlier is placed in front of his plate; the balloon, tied to the chair in front of him. He looks out of himself… staring into nothing.
ANTHONY: Sir, your guests will be arriving soon; shouldn’t you start getting ready?
EDWARD: (Dazing at nothingness) Yes… probably…
ANTHONY: Sir, if I may say… I know this night brings up memories, but you must allow yourself to let that go. You are a good man; you deserve to be happy, find some peace.
EDWARD: After everything that I have done, do you honestly believe that?
ANTHONY: With all my heart. I know you, Sir; I have seen your dark and your light.
EDWARD: You have probably seen much more than what you bargained for.
ANTHONY: At my age, Sir, I have seen much worse, trust me.
EDWARD: Got to love your sense of humor. I will never understand why genetics didn’t make you my father.
ANTHONY: Excuse me for saying this, but I think I am the only father figure you have ever known.
EDWARD: That is very true… And, I want you to know, that whatever happens, I will forever be thankful for having you in my life. After my mother, you are the only person that has made my life have any sort of meaning.
ANTHONY: Sir, don’t say that. I’m grateful for your kind words but with or without me, and dare I say, with or without her, your life has meaning. You just need to see beyond those smoking mirrors that cloud your mind, believe in yourself.
EDWARD: Always so observant….
ANTHONY: So much that I’m going to step out of my place and ask, have you told the Sheriff?
EDWARD: Oh, will you look at the time! I need to go get ready before my guests arrive. (Takes the black box and leaves, a saddened look on Anthony’s face).
Cut to - The Salvatore house, the gang is back from trick or treating; they are having a drink before heading out to Klaus’s.
ALARIC: Well, gang, the time has come… everyone ready to do this?
RADKA: As ready as we will ever be; so, (puts her cup up for a toast) I propose a toast: to friendship, family and love, the most important things in life!
EVERYONE: Cheers! (They toast, hug, share a laugh or two).
CAROLINE: (Chugs a shot) Okay, Alaric and I need to go tuck the girls in; we’ll be back in a sec. (They go upstairs).
As they start getting ready to leave, Damon takes Bonnie outside.
BONNIE: Damon, what’s going on? Don’t tell me you changed your mind about the costume!
DAMON: No matter how many times I try, I don’t seem to get this right, so I’m just going to say it…
BONNIE: Say what?
DAMON: 73,0408...
BONNIE: (Confused) Damon, that makes no sense, are you honestly drunk right now?
DAMON: That’s the number of days I’ve been on this earth, give or take. And, out of those, 3650 have been the best ones… because you have been a part of them...
BONNIE: Damon…
DAMON: It took me multiple lifetimes to realize what the best things in life are truly about… and that was thanks to you, to this unlikely friendship, which is, beyond a doubt, the best thing that has ever happened to me. Even when I didn’t know it, and, for the life of me, I still can’t believe I was so blind…
BONNIE: Damon, please, don’t…
DAMON:
Day 1:That Halloween party, when I tried to grab your amulet… I didn’t realize what it meant at the time, psycho mode an all, but it was the first time in my life that I had ever felt an instant connection, an unexplainable draw towards someone…
Day 2: When I went looking for you at your school, leaned into you and told you I was only trying to protect you… granted it was not the best approach, I know, but I felt it, the tension, the chemistry...
Day 3: The 60’s decade dance… (looking into her eyes) God those eyes… I could have danced, and stared at them all night…
Day 4: When I finally found you on that creep island… that hug spoke for itself, but swear I had never felt such relief…
Day 5: There were probably about a million people you would have rather been with… how lucky was I to be the one?
The 122 days back in 94. I think those were one of the best ones... Just you, me, vampcakes, crossword puzzles, plaid shirts, The Bodyguard, Monopoly, Tetris, Miss. Cuddles, bourbon, Boyz II Men...
.. and, well, Kai, but...
BONNIE: (In a cold and harsh tone) Damon, stop! (Damon stops cold in his tracks, then Bonnie transitions into a teasing tone) You aren’t really gonna go on for 3645 more days, are you? We’ll be here forever…
DAMON: However long it takes…
(Softly, places his hands on her cheeks and stares deep into her eyes) You are my person, Bon-Bon… You make me laugh, so much that I actually cry! You make me think, own up to my decisions, don’t take my crap, and boy, do I have some crap! When I’m with you, I feel at home... I am home... you are my home, Bon. You are the reason I know what it means to be alive... the reason I know what it means to love...And, well...I just can’t fight this feeling anymore... (Damon takes out his phone, puts on a song, and holds the phone above his head, in reference to the famous John Cusak scene. Bonnie can’t help but crack up).
youtube
BONNIE: You’re crazy...
DAMON: Absolutely bunkers, one flew over cuckoo's nest, for you... I love you, Bonnie Sheila Bennett and all I want to do is to keep loving you, every second, minute, hour, day, week, month, year of my life… and afterlife… (slowly leans in for a kiss… ).
CAROLINE: (Caroline walks outside, unaware of the situation). Hey guys, the girls are tucked in; we are ready to… (she realizes the moment she has, once again, interrupted) Oh my god!!! I’m so sorry!! Leaving now! (Vamps out).
DAMON: I swear, I could kill Goldie Locks, right about now!!!
BONNIE: (Laughs) Hey...come here (pulls him in for a kiss).
Caroline vamps her way back into the living room, pulls Stefan aside.
CAROLINE: Oh my god, Stefan, you won’t believe what is happening right now! Granted I almost sabotaged the moment, once again, but at last!
STEFAN: Damon and Bonnie?
CAROLINE: You know it!
STEFAN: Well, it was about time…
CAROLINE: Right!?
KATHERINE: (Who has sneaked in on their conversation) Please, I called it from a mile away! But, hey, good for them! I mean, let’s be honest, we all knew the Elena thing was rooted on Damon’s fixation over me… I mean, their relationship was even more toxic than ours! But I must admit, I’m actually happy for him, despite my everlasting loath, it’s somewhat nice to see him make the right choice, for once.
CAROLINE: Aw, hello, creeper!? Did we ask for your opinion?
KATHERINE: What about bygones?
CAROLINE: One day at a time… (Damon and Bonnie come back inside)
KATHERINE: So, are you two love birds ready to go? (They all look at them with a smirk on their faces).
Cut to – The Mikaelson mansion. Danae comes running through the front door. Klaus, looking pissed, is sitting on the piano bench, playing random keynotes.
DANAE: Hello dear (kisses him on the cheek), I’m sorry I’m so late; I had one of my migraines and needed to compose myself before heading back. (Looks around) Good, no one is here yet. Love, what’s with the face? I told you I was sorry …
KLAUS: Just get ready, they will be arriving any time now.
DANAE: Don’t be mad, I told you I’d be here… and I’m here… better late than never.
KLAUS: I’m just a bit on edge, nothing personal.
DANAE: Don’t be, we have nothing to worry about. With my migraine came a vision, and I can assure you, we are going to be fine, I promise (hugs him). Now, let me go get changed, I’ll be down in a few. (Doorbell rings, Klaus opens the door).
KLAUS: (Looks at Damon, cracks up). Don’t you look lovely!
DAMON: Oh, shut up! (Pushes him aside, walks inside).
KLAUS: Now, you (referring to Bonnie)... I think you just stole my soul…
BONNIE: As if you had one… (pushes him aside, walks inside)
KLAUS: Ouch, Bonnie, that hurt. So, where are the others?
BONNIE: They were right behind us, they should be here soon.
KLAUS: (They settle down in the living room). Can I offer you a drink?
DAMON: Yes, two bourbons, on the rocks.
KLAUS: (Doorbell rings again) Well, you are going to have to fetch it yourself (signals to the bar, then goes to open the front door).
STRANGER: Is Tamara here?
KLAUS: Sorry, love, wrong house. (Shuts the door, goes back to the living room)
BONNIE: Who was it?
KLAUS: Drunken teen… Anyway, while we wait for the others, I must ask one last time (to Bonnie) are you sure you are ready to do this, love? We can call it quits, come up with another plan…
BONNIE: Oh, I’m ready. (With sarcasm) Question is, are you?
KLAUS: Feisty, I love it (gives her a smirk) …
DAMON: Hey, down boy…
KLAUS: Oh, relax Damon, always so protective of your precious Bon-Bon. (Danae comes down and joins them). Love, you look breathtaking (kisses her on the cheek)…
DANAE: Thank you, dear, this was all five minutes could do for me. (Turns to Bonnie) Hello Bonnie, you are looking ravishing…
BONNIE: Thank you, (to herself) I guess?
DANAE: (Turns to Damon) You, on the order hand…
DAMON: Yep, I know. (Doorbell rings).
BONINE: That must be Caroline and Alaric…
DANAE: I’ll get it (goes to open the door). Caroline, (referring to her costume) I must say, I expected more from you…
CAROLINE: Don’t even get me started… (walks in).
DANAE: Alaric, Radka, love the costumes… where is Sergei?
ALARIC: He stayed at the mansion with Stefan, in case he needs back up.
DANAE: Good call; come on in, everyone is in the living room. (As she is about to shut the door)
KATHERINE: Hey, wait for me (walking clumsy, trying not to stumble on her dress again).
(Everyone gathers in the living room)
ALARIC: Tyler, Matt, Lexie and Khuyana should be here soon; in the meantime, should we go through the plan one last time?
KLAUS: I think we have done that more than enough; let’s just enjoy our drinks while we wait.
Cut to - The Salvatore mansion, Elena and Sam ring the bell; Stefan opens the door.
ELENA: (Stares at Stefan in disbelief and tear eyed, she was not expecting to be so affected by seeing him) Stefan… (tears dripping down her face) Oh, my god… (hugs him real tight and for quite some time).
STEFAN: (Also tear eyed) Elena (bit of an awkward moment with Sam just standing there; after a couple of minutes they finally stop hugging).
SAM: So, you are the famous Stefan? Great to finally meet you, I’m Sam (they shake hands).
STEFAN: Nice to meet you too, come on in.
ELENA: (As she walks inside and realizes no one is there) Where is everyone?
STEFAN: Guessing Caroline and Bonnie didn’t put you up to date?
ELENA: About?
STEFAN: Oh god, let me offer you guys a drink first, and I’ll explain. (As he is preparing the drinks).
ELENA: Stefan, what’s going on?
STEFAN: (Nervously) Lemons, we need lemons… lemons, yes, in the kitchen... (rushes out).
SAM: Well, this is really getting awkward…
ELENA: Something is going on... (gets her phone out, calls Caroline, goes to voice message) Caroline Elizabeth Forbes, what the hell is going on! (Calls Bonnie but it also goes to voice message) Bonnie Sheila Bennett, you better tell me what is happening!!! (To Sam) I can’t believe they’d leave me out of the loop like this!
SAM: Maybe they are just looking out for you…
ELENA: I don’t need to be looked for; I can handle myself.
SAM: I know you can, but I think they just wanted to respect your wishes of not being involved with the crazy supernatural things anymore…
ELENA: That’s no excuse… (gets up, walks to the kitchen, where Stefan is desperately trying to reach Caroline on her phone).
STEFAN: (Leaving a voice message) Care, I think you forgot one tiny little detail in your master plan... Elena! (Hangs up).
ELENA: Stefan, tell me what is going on?
STEFAN: Fine; let’s go back to the living room, I’ll tell you everything I know.
ELENA: (As Stefan is walking out) Wait, what about the lemons?
Cut to – The Mayor’s house. Edward is greeting his guests as they arrive.
EDWARD: Welcome everyone... (To a mysterious looking lady, wearing some very peculiar gloves) Madame (kisses her hand), always a pleasure.
MADAME: Thank you, my dear (winks at him; walks inside).
EDWARD: (Greets her companion) Mr. Northcott (shakes his hand), happy you made it. Please, come in…. (points to the lounge are) indulge.
Cut back to the Mikaelson mansion.
KLAUS: I think it’s safe to say that Donovan is a no show; why am I not surprised.
KHUYANA: (Rolls her eyes at him) I’m sorry you guys, he promised he would be here.
ALARIC: Well, we can’t wait anymore, it’s almost midnight, we need to take our places.
BONNIE: We really do. (To Danae) Let’s go. (As they are about to head upstairs…)
DAMON: Wait… (pulls Bonnie towards him, kisses her, and whispers in her ear) I love you, don’t you ever forget that. Please, be safe.
BONNIE: (Whispers back) I will… we got this… we are Batman and Robin, we kick ass! (Damon smirks) Oh, and just in case it wasn’t clear before, I love you too (kisses him).
KLAUS: (Snarky) Oh, lovely...
Cut back to – Creepy old mansion, in what looks to be an underground bunker lab. Darius is outside a heavily sealed and guarded door, with some weird-ass Scientestis that are injecting him with something; Matt, walks in.
DARIUS: Sheriff (with sarcasm), glad to know you can figure out coordinates. You actually made it...
MATT: I didn’t have much of a choice.
DARIUS: Oh, come on, you know better than anyone that there is always a choice… (Matt hands him the key that had been sent to him before). Oh no, there is a reason why you are here; you are the only one that can access it.
MATT: And why is that?
DARIUS: I only know the how not the why… (hands him the chess piece that had been sent to him before by Edward. Matt turns the chess piece around; a code and the letter “L” are engraved on the bottom).
MATT: (Knowing Edward had been sent that same chess piece just a few hours ago) Wait… how?
DARIUS: Oh Sheriff, you truly underestimate my intelligence; you do know I am a certified genius, right? Edward might have more pull, you know how “the elite” are, but I am much smarter than he is. You really should have better instincts when choosing your alliances… (Darius looks at the clock). One minute till midnight…Time to play (winks).
The clock strikes midnight… the witching hour has begun.
Bonnie shuts her eyes and releases her psychic block. Danae is holding her hand, chanting. Suddenly, an overwhelming energy blast emanates from Bonnie…
Then, a total blackout, absolute silence. An uncanny feeling of calmness, not fitting with the expected scenario. Seems like the moment, and everyone in it has been suspended in time. After a few minutes, Bonnie opens her eyes, she looks around. The place seems familiar, but something is off… Why is she alone? Why can’t she remember where she is, or why she is even there? The darkness, the smell of ashes, the silence, the debris… something horrible must have happened here… but what? And why was she there? Bonnie gets up slowly, the place in utter devastation. She walks, for miles and miles amongst ruins and debris… no movement, no sound, no light, no life…
Why did this place feel so familiar to her? As she continues to walk, trying to remember anything that can help her figure out why she is there, and how she can get out, she stumbles upon another familiar sighting… an old mansion, which strangely, still stands intact. Maybe not the wisest decision, but she had to check it out, it was as if something was pulling her in. She opens the door, walks inside…
How could this be possible? Where did all these people come from? That music, she has heard it before… How could this place have survived? She takes a glimpse of herself in a nearby mirror… How? She looks ravishing, no doubt, but when did she change into that that attire?
A man approaches her, she knows him, so much in fact, that she is pretty sure she is in love with him. The man grabs her hand, kisses it with delicate caress…
DARIUS: My love, I’ve been expecting you…
BONNIE: I know… (winks, then pulls him in for a passionate kiss).
what’s your plan? | jordan & victoria.
date: july 18, 2020, a few hours after talking with cyrus characters: jordan abe & victoria brant summary: victoria tells jordan that she’s leaving to go find hecate. jordan thinks it’s a bad idea, victoria doesn’t listen.
Victoria was in the Hecate cabin library, choosing some books to take with her while on the trip with Cyrus. She knew that if she was going to see Hecate, possibly, she needed to study somethings. She looked over when she heard someone walk in, only to find Jordan strolling in. "Hey," she said to him. "Are you going to use any of these?" She pointed to the little stack she had already made. "Is it cool if I take them?"
Jordan hadn't been expecting to see anyone when he walked into the cabin, but he also wasn't surprised, with how many of the old residents would also come and go, taking books on the subjects that they needed. "Hey." Jordan had mostly been interested in the darker selection, focused on necromancy, death, spirits and summoning, so when he ran his eyes over the titles of the books, he shook his head slowly, then smirked. "Trying to turn someone into a frog?"
“No, trying to turn someone back into a human,” Vic joked back. “Do we have a book just specifically on breaking curses anywhere?” She looked over the books.
Jordan gave her a strange smile and hummed. "There was one with an entire section on it, but not the whole book." He ran his finger along the covers on one bookshelf. "I think you might have it there, but I believe there's another one..." He disappeared behind one shelf and reappeared a few moments later, holding a book with a dark green cover. "This one. It always ends up in a weird section of the library. Jumps around. Maybe that's its curse." He smirked. "What do you need these for?"
Victoria looked at the book, flipping through the pages when she took it from him. "I think I tried this one already," she replied. "We only have two?" she replied. She sighed, that meant that she would really have to go. "I have to do something for a friend." She sighed slightly, and looked at him. "Which also means I have to leave camp, but if I tell you, you have to keep it a secret about where I'm going, because people aren't going to like it."
"Just the two," Jordan confirmed as he nodded. His expression grew more serious, and he frowned at her, leaning against the table where her books were stacked. "I don't really tell people shit. Where are you going?"
Victoria let out a soft sigh. “I’m going to try and find our dear mother, father, parent,” she replied. It had been years since she’s seen Hecate, the last time Hecate was trying to recruit her just before the war broke out. She leaned against the bookcase. “Cyrus and I. Hecate’s the one who cast the curse, and I guess I’m gonna have to actually ask her how to break it. You know, without me dying, or something.”
Jordan pressed his lips together in a thin line. He hadn't be present for the torment that their shared parent had brought upon camp, but Jordan had heard enough about it from Victoria to know that a curse was hardly unprecedented from Hecate. Reversing one cause by the goddess of magic however... Jordan wasn't sure if that was possible, and if it was, he was pretty sure it was a terrible idea. "Why are you guys cursed? What happened?"
"It's a long story, but I'm not the one cursed," Victoria replied. She crossed her arms, moving her hair from her face, her fingertips resting on the ends of the hair, twirling it around her fingers. "I just, I uh have to find her, find where they have some weird God jail they told us she was in. Beg her? I don't know. She's got to have some care in her arm for her own blood? Right? I don't know, it's worth a shot."
"Do you have any idea as to how to find her? Where that god jail is, if it even is a place rather than a concept?" Jordan wasn't exactly sure why, but the idea of Victoria facing Hecate was off putting and upsetting to him. "What's your plan?"
"Plan? Uh, we were just gonna wing it," Victoria replied. "I"m sure we can get some God to tell us, maybe Hermes." Victoria shrugged. "What proper way do I have to go about seeing a God that killed a bunch of people and destroyed camp?"June 21, 2020
Jordan shrugged. "I dunno, have you tried reaching out to talk to her? I guess Hermes is a good idea, he definitely knows where everyone is. How are you gonna find him?"
"How am I supposed to reach her. If she's in this so-called God Jail or whatever, I don't think we can even have contact with her." Victoria shrugged again, she didn't exactly have the best plan, yet again that's how her and Cyrus worked. "That I also don't know."
“I dunno, look up a spell for it?” Jordan frowned and scuffed his shoe on the ground. He raised his eyebrows a bit. “Looks like you don’t really have this all figured out.”
"I don't know if we can even use spells for that. I mean it's God level shit, I can sometimes not even do demigod level shit," Victoria replied. "I don't know, Cyrus and I work well on impulse."
Jordan pursed his lips. "Do you? Or do you guys get by on impulse?" He frowned and crossed his arms. "I think you should do more research before going out and doing god-level shit. Gather intel, that kinda thing, talk to Hermes and then do more research before just... going to her."
Victoria raised her eyebrows at Jordan when he crossed his arms. “Well,” she confirmed. She then shrugged again, only slightly this time. “She holds grudges, I don’t think research is going to stop her doing whatever she wants. Cyrus is desperate to fix it, and well, I’ll do anything for him, he’s my best friend.”
Jordan just frowned more, obviously upset. “Okay, I’m just saying that this isn’t something to take lightly. What did he do to get himself cursed anyway?”
"Who said he was the one cursed?" Victoria replied.
Jordan raised his eyebrows. "You just said that you'd do anything for him. Are you the one who's cursed?"
"It's a long story," she told him, not wanting to go into too much, for the sake of Cyrus. "Just," she put her hands on his shoulders. "I'll be okay, alright? Just don't do anything stupid while I'm gone, okay? I don't want to come home to a beat up brother or something."
“So you’re not.” Jordan frowned again and looked away from Victoria. He almost pulled away from her grasp, and opened his mouth to correct her, but then closed it again, figuring it was a detail that didn’t matter. “Ugh, shut up.” He looked back at her. “As if I’m the one doing something stupid. Is this a quest? Everyone keeps coming back from those half dead. Or dead,” he added. He paused for a moment, then pulled her into a quick hug, his heart rattling in his chest as he thought the worst. “If you need help,” he said as he pulled away, looking at the books again. “Call me. Send me coordinates or a location or... something. I can try to help.”
Victoria smiled slightly when Jordan didn’t correct her, and smiled a little bigger when he hugged her. “Oh, so he does have a heart,” she teased. “It’s not a quest, it’s more of a last resort at this point. I’ll be fine Jordan. If things don’t work out, I’ll get out of there.”
Jordan rolled his eyes and sighed instead of commenting. She was probably using humor to push away hard feelings. Family resemblance, he thought to himself, though he pushed the thought away as soon as it came. “You’d better,” he mumbled. “I know you’re not that stupid. You’re at least half as stupid as most of the people sent on quests.”
“Wow thanks,” Victoria replied. She then wrapped her arms around him in a hug again. “Thank you,” she said sincerely this time.
Jordan sighed and hugged her back after a moment, then pulled away again. "Just..." He looked down, ringing his hands together. "I dunno, stay safe, be prepared, don't eat yellow snow and all that."
Victoria ruffled Jordan's hair. "I promise I will, and I won't eat yellow snow."
Jordan swatted at Victoria's hand and smoothed out his hair. "Cool." He set his jaw and pursed his lips. "When are you leaving?"
"Within the next day or two," Victoria replied.
Jordan’s lips tugged slightly downwards and he nodded. “Alright, well... everything I said, yeah.” He rocked back and forth on his feet before stepping forward and wrapping his arms around her in another quick hug. “Please don’t make me commit matricide in an act of revenge.”
"I won't, I promise," Victoria answered, hugging Jordan back.
Jordan sighed and pulled away again. “Cool, yeah.” He rubbed his brow and then stepped back. “Guess I’ll... see you when you get back.” He picked up a book he was originally looking for and looked away before teleporting out of the cabin.
Love’s A Bitch
Robby Tailor was your average teenager. He had decent grades, a couple friends, and a family that loved him. He never seemed to cause anyone any problems.
When he was 17, his family moved to a small, rural town in the middle of nowhere. His father worked for a grocery store chain had been asked to help open and run a new store in this tiny town. The thing Robby liked most was that it was quiet.
It didn’t take him long to start making friends with the kids at his new school. One of them in particular drew him in like a magnet. He was cute, kind, and funny, and his name was Jimmy Baker.
Jimmy had invited him to hang out on several occasions, and they were actually getting pretty close. They would go swimming in the creek, ride their bikes around town, go to see movies, and stay up until the wee hours of the morning talking about anything and everything. Robby was falling in love.
One day, though, Jimmy changed. He had decided (or his father decided for him) that he would carry on the family tradition and become a preacher. He started carrying his Bible around everywhere, and started talking about God all the time. It didn’t bother Robby at first, since it was almost always about loving your neighbor and living a life in honor of Christ.
When gay rights movements started cropping up everywhere, though, Jimmy wasn’t as pleasant anymore. He talked about how homosexuality was a sin. Robby loved him anyway.
One day in midsummer, as they sat in the shade of their favorite oak tree after a dip in the creek, Robby decided to test Jimmy’s faith. He knew that Jimmy believed it to be a sin, that they were going to Hell, but he wanted to know more.
He asked his friend what should be done about the homosexuals if they were such a problem. This turned out to be quite the mistake. His heart broke when Jimmy told him the Bible was very clear that they should be put to death. They should be stoned, killed, eradicated, exterminated.
Robby knew that if he hung around, one of two would be hurt. He began distancing himself in the following weeks. Their senior year of high school, they didn’t hang out even once. After graduation, he moved away, never to see the boy he loved again.
Shortly after that, Robby met a sweet girl named Rebecca Waterson. She knew about Robby’s sexuality, but she didn’t care. They took care of each other the best they could.
What she couldn’t do was stop the intense depression he entered in the following years. He started drinking, lost his job, and fell further into despair.
One day in particular marked the worst day of her life. Rebecca came home from the grocery store to find him dead in their living room, with a note in his hand that read, “I’m sorry, darlin’. I just couldn’t take it anymore.” Robby was no longer going to feel the pain of not being with the person he was still so in love with. She prayed that Jimmy Baker would suffer for how he hurt the man who’d been her best friend the last two and a half years. He prayers would be answered, but she never got to see it.
After Robby did himself in, he suddenly found himself in the living room standing beside his freshly deceased body. This would have been the most shocking experience in his life were it not for the very dapper, and incredibly attractive, young man sitting on his sofa.
The young man was in clothes nicer than Robby could’ve afforded even when he had a job. His hair was slicked back and looked as if it were made of gold. Even inside, he wore dark sunglasses, so dark that his eyes couldn’t be seen. As shocking as it was to suddenly have this gorgeous stranger in his house, he was oddly at ease because the man sat with his legs crossed, a gentle smile, and his head turned, looking as if he were lost in thought. Just as Robby began to admire this man, he turned to face the poor soul and his smile grew wider.
“Oh! You’re here,” the blond exclaimed, “I don’t mean to sound insensitive, I’ve just really been looking forward to meeting you.”
Robby was stunned, but that didn’t stop him from asking, “I’m pretty sure I just killed myself while I was alone in my house, and you seem like a nice guy, but who are you?”
“Ooh, uh. Okay. Don’t lose your cool, alright? I’m, uh-“ he used his fingers to mime tiny horns on his head. Having anticipated the panic this would cause, he quickly corrected with, “No, no, no, no, no, no, no! I’m not here to take you to Hell! Pinky promise!” And the literal, actual Devil held aloft the pinky of his left hand. Humans were just as easy for him to sedate as they were to intimidate. It was kind of his shtick.
Robby was very confused, as we all would be in this situation. “If you’re the Devil, and I’m not going to Hell, then why are you here? Is this some kind of trick?”
Lucifer sighed and recited the same spiel he gave to everyone he ferried to an afterlife of reward and happiness.
“Okay so crazy story: no religion is right, and yet every religion is right. If you live a life of good, one in which you don’t cause other living things undue pain and suffering, I take you upstairs. If you live a neutral life, not going out of your way to wish harm to others but not doing anything to help, I take you to purgatory. Actively cause harm to others with your words or actions with no regard for their feelings or safety, and eternal damnation is your only option. The thing is that since the Abrahamic faiths got popular, more people have gone to Hell, ironic right? So the people who have seen me in near death experiences and weren’t doing so great were mostly Christians, Jews, and Muslims. As a result, I became the Devil. You could call me Death, Charon, Hermes, Hecate, Mercury, Vanth, Daena, et cetera, I just really love the name Lucifer. You can call me Lu.”
By this point Robby had sat in the chair facing the Angel of Death. This was the most insane thing that had ever happened to him. He had no idea whether he should believe this, well, being. Somehow, though, he found himself beginning to trust him anyway.
“So let me get this straight,” Robby began, confused expression on his face, “even though I committed suicide, I’m not going to Hell? Does that mean I’m going to Purgatory, then? I thought you couldn’t get into Heaven if you killed yourself?”
Lu leaned back, stretched his arms on the back of the couch to each side, and adjusted his crossed legs. “Total bullshit. If you kill yourself to escape punishment, yeah. Most suicides are a result of mental disorders or societal pressures, so we don’t punish you for what isn’t your fault. That would be unfair, wouldn’t it?
“Take yourself, for instance. Your suicide was a result of your soulmate telling you that people like you, who don’t have any control over the fact that they are romantically and sexually attracted to the same sex, deserve to be the victims of a genocide backed only by a book that, take it from me, is complete horse shit. It was a political tool to manipulate the masses. Actual Jesus was 100% a good guy, but threw more punches than you’d think and wasn’t quite as divine as you’re lead to believe. He was also gay, they just clipped that part out. No, you’ve never done anything to hurt anyone else. You became an alcoholic but never once did any harm to your wife besides worry her because she cared about you. You even apologized to her in that note your corpse is holding. You’re a good guy, Robby Tailor. I mean that.”
This put Robby at ease. Knowing he wasn’t going to suffer eternal damnation was a weight off his shoulders. Being visibly more relaxed, Lu continued.
“And because you’re such a good guy, I have an offer for you. Most people just get in my car and we get going wherever we need to. The exceptionally good ones get a choice: go to Heaven and live eternal bliss or become a guardian angel and spend your time on Earth watching over a particular individual, and when it is their time to go, we’ll see each other again. We don’t have a long time, but you can take a minute to decide. I know it can be a very difficult decision.”
It could be difficult, indeed, but both Robby and Lu knew what choice would be made as soon as the question was asked. It didn’t take Robby any time at all. He knew exactly what he wanted.
“If I become a guardian angel, can I choose who I watch over?” The answer to this question was very important to Robby. It would determine the afterlife he chose.
Lu gave him a grin and said, “No one ever asks that question, Robby. They just don’t. I think I can count maybe a few thousand in all the time I’ve been doing this. Yes, you can choose. You have someone in mind, so let’s pay a visit before you make that choice, shall we?”
Without any warning, they found themselves in a college classroom. It was the seminary, Robby knew that as soon as he saw the person he wanted to protect.
“It’s funny, really,” said Lu. “No one protects the person who caused them the most pain. If you’re sure about this, then we can move forward.” This was met with a nod.
“Okay, obviously there are rules that must be followed. You are bound to him wherever he goes for the remainder of his life. You’ll know his every thought. You’ll never be more than a few feet away from him. You’ll never sleep. You’ll be allowed to steer him away from dangerous situations 3 times, and you will be allowed 1 miracle to save him, but only that. You will, at any time, be allowed to surround him with your love and warmth or take it away, that is entirely at your discretion, but you will not be able to communicate with him or anyone else until the moment of his passing. Knowing these conditions, Robby Tailor, do you agree to take the role of guardian angel to James Ryan Baker, to protect him until he end of his days?”
Robby Tailor looked the Devil in the eye and said “I accept.”
Lu gave a wide, happy smile and stuck out his left hand, which the new angel gladly shook. “Robby Tailor, I wish you the best. We’ll meet again one day, and I look forward to it.
62 years later, Robby had used 2 of his 3 gentle steerings and exactly zero miracles. He sat on the edge of a hospital bed and placed his hand on his love’s leg, performing his only miracle. Jimmy was given just enough strength to overcome the severe cancer and tell his family that he loved them, and that he hoped to see them in Heaven, then he drifted back to sleep. He would not wake up again. A moment later, in the doorway stood a young man with beautiful gold hair, a sleeveless black shirt, skinny jeans, boots, and heart-shaped sunglasses.
“How’ve you been, Lu? You look different than the last time I saw you.” Robby had genuinely missed the Angel of Death, but was sad that they had to meet under these circumstances.
“I’ve been just fine. I really love these modern gays. They have such interesting fashion.” He got a smile out of the angel across from him. “I know this is going to be heartbreaking to some degree, but you can’t be here when he dies, Robby.”
Robby gave a sad smile. “I kinda figured. So what now?”
The devil walked over and sat in front of him, legs ‘criss cross applesauce’ style, but floating in the air instead of sitting on the ground. “Well, you get to say goodbye, but that’s just closure for you. He won’t know because of his condition. Even if he wasn’t sick, he’s not going anywhere good, so he wouldn’t be entitled to his final goodbye from the person who loved him most anyway. Whether you do or don’t, you get the same choice you had 60 years ago: go to Heaven or remain a guardian angel. Do you have anyone in mind?” They both knew he’d choose the role of protector again. It was part of who he was at the core of his soul.
“I don’t have anyone in particular, but I want to watch over kids who were like me. I want to be there for the boys and girls who can’t help who they love. Even taking care of one kid at a time is better than letting still more of them end up like me. Is that an option?”
“It is. Let’s meet your next charge.”
From then on, until no child had to be afraid because of who they would love, Robby Tailor would protect one child at a time. Every time one of his children would pass (thanks to him it was almost always at an old age), the two angels would greet each other as friends.
✨ || you’ll get older and maybe then you’ll feel some control
Her feet would barely touch the ground, in the moments where she would think of herself to be alone, Micah could catch Reva walking up and down the long, empty halls of the estate with a hover.
“Why do you do that?” With legs hanging off the end of a chair still too big for him, Micah swung them in exaggeration at Reva’s confused tilt of her head. “Why do you do that thing where you’re walking, but you’re also not touching the ground?”
The flush to her face was instant.
“I’m not allowed to use my magic freely…” Her small hands toyed with the frills surrounding her equally small apron. “Hecate made me swear to never use my magic around other people or anywhere outside my room.”
“But why…?” The thought of not being able to use magic had the equivalent horrifying effect as a horror movie to the two young witches.
“I don’t know… but please, Micah, you can’t tell Hecate! She’ll get cross with me, she doesn’t know I use it when there’s no one around.”
Reva’s panic filled eyes look so… heart wrenching. A glance down to Reva’s shuffling feet, and Micah wondered how high she could fly if she were to be free of the invisible shackles keeping her weighed down to the ground.
“It’s alright, Revs, I won’t tell a soul.”
“Thank you, Micah.” Reva’s eyes would always shine as bright as her smile. Despite their cloudy appearance matching the hue of the sky on a rainy day, Micah could always find the bright beams of sun reflecting in the way her smiles would light up her entire face. “By the way, I got something for you! You can’t tell Minthe, okay? I snuck this out of the kitchen just for you.”
At the mention of a gift, Micah perked up. The announcement enough to make him hop off the chair where he had carried on swinging his feet back and forth.
“I didn’t know which flavor you’d like,” Shyness laced in her voice, “So, I brought you a chocolate one. I hope that’s okay.”
From within the pocket of her apron, Reva carefully pulled up a napkin covered lump — the paper stained and messy with a thick layer of icing.
“Oh, shoot…” She muttered to herself as she unwrapped the sweet confectionary cupcake; once nicely decorated, now a battered mess struggling to look presentable. When she was satisfied with her revelation of the sweet, Reva held it out to Micah with a grin. “Happy birthday, Micah!”
When Micah reached the age of eight, he swore to himself that one day he would grant Reva all the freedom in the world and unbind her from her shackles.
༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺ ༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺ ༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
“Do you think they’ll need you back inside the party soon?”
In a way that would surely get her scolded, Reva licked away at her fingers; her foot knock, knock, knocking against Micah’s as they sat on the ground, legs outstretched and tilting their feet to and fro in a sway.
“I don’t think so,” Mimicking the actions of his cousin, Micah also entertained himself licking away at his fingers. The fancy suit that Hecate had struggled much to shove him in now rained upon with crumbs of chocolate and vanilla flavored cupcakes. “I doubt they’ll need me for most of the night other than saying goodbye to everybody when the party ends.”
“But it’s your birthday.” Reva blinked in surprise, “You’re supposed to be the big, important birthday boy. That’s the reason why everyone came here in the first place.”
Silence is her response, the sound of Micah’s foot tapping against hers also coming to a cease.
“That’s all just for show,” He spoke after a short while of Reva’s uneasy shuffling. “I don’t really think they care about anything other than just getting the chance to strike more clients. In fact, the less people see of me, the better. At least that’s what Dad likes to tell the others that work with him, and they all seem to agree, too. They don’t want anyone memorizing what I look like.”
“How did you manage to find out all of that?” She focuses on the crumbs resting on her own maid uniform.
“There’s a place somewhere in the estate that you can hear the walls talk. I found it one day while exploring, it lets me overhear everything Dad talks about with his council.” His laugh is a weak one, it makes Reva’s heart ache and her mind wonder what sorts of things Micah has heard from that secret spot. “Anyways, it doesn’t matter…! Pass over another cupcake, I think chocolate still remains my fave.”
Without meeting Micah’s eyes, Reva reaches out to place a hand gently on top of his with a flush to her cheeks. Comfort wasn’t her best strong suit, but neither was being able to see Micah’s dampened expression.
“Happy birthday, Micah. Who cares if all those smelly, old guys don’t acknowledge you today, I’m glad you’re here...”
To be met with silence from him again made the palm of Reva’s hands sweat. Against her will, she glanced up once more to study Micah’s expression only to be met with a grin wide on his face.
“Aww, you care?”
“Shut up…”
With the cupcake in her hand, she shoved it onto Micah’s face, the icing successfully hiding his wide grin away.
On Micah's tenth birthday, Reva swore she would always stand by him.
༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺ ༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺ ༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
"Reva, you've been avoiding me all week, are you going to tell me what I did wrong?"
Her eye would come to a twitch when she reached drastic levels of being irritated, the little tidbit was new to herself. She couldn't help but have her mind wander who she inherited it from. Her father? Or perhaps her mother…?
"Reva." Micah's hand takes hold of her arm, bringing her fast paced steps to a halt.
"Don't touch me," the words hissed out between clenched teeth. The metal tray once in her hands, release and clatters to the ground in a mess of icing and cupcakes, her hands shoving themselves against Micah’s chest and pushing him away from her. "Can't you get the hint? I don't want to see you!"
"And I'm trying to find out why! You can't even tell me what I did wrong!?"
Stubbornness was a strong trait that ran in the family, and the thought made Reva feel sick. Without a word, she knelt down and began cleaning the mess her anger had caused. Messes… she was always left cleaning up messes that somehow tied back to Micah one way or another.
Silently, Micah knelt down as well to help her clean and somehow, that made her blood boil even more.
"Reva—"
"Shut up." She didn't care how dirty her hands got, none of it mattered as she snatched the cupcakes Micah had gathered up away from his hands. "You have no right to demand that I talk to you."
Rising from the ground, Reva’s hands tightly gripped the metal tray once again. She would get reprimanded for the mess on the tray once Minthe saw, but for now she could care less. She could care less about all of them.
"All these years… all these years and the one thing your running mouth had to keep quiet about was the fact that we were related and your shitty dad killed my mom, huh?"
Silence could be loud. When Micah turned fourteen, he found himself unable to speak against his cousin's wish that he would have been the one to drop dead instead.
༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺ ༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺ ༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
"She throws them away…"
"I know."
It's quiet in the kitchen, Priya could only be so thankful that the place was located far from where anyone slept. Though the risk of getting caught made uneasy knots churn in their stomach, it was all worth it if it meant they could spend moments like these with Micah.
"It was our tradition, I guess you could say…" Micah spoke up in a hushed whisper. He wouldn't meet Priya's eyes, and Priya wouldn't force him to. "She'd give me a chocolate cupcake every year and we'd find some place to hang out together."
And what happened? Priya wishes to speak the question out loud. The sight of Micah's hands shaking while decorating the cupcake in front of him made them decide otherwise.
"Do you think we have enough batter to make another batch?"
They place a hand upon Micah's arm softly and when he meets their gaze with his golden eyes, Priya feels a flush rise to their cheeks.
"I just thought, y-you know…" Words tangle into each other on top of their tongue as Micah gently takes hold of their hand with his. It's a sticky touch, the chocolate icing staining their fingers as well, "I know I'm not Reva, but it's still your birthday. You deserve something sweet."
It's so loud, the pounding of their heart… Can he hear it? Gods, Priya hopes that Micah can't hear the way it accelerates nor the way their breathing becomes slightly uneven. And when Micah gently cups their cheek with his other hand, Priya feels as if they've died in the kitchen of the estate.
They've done this before. The softest of kisses shared in secret when no one else is around and it felt as if it was just the two of them in the world. Regardless, every time felt like the first to Priya. Every time tastes as sweet.
"Happy birthday, Micah…" Priya speaks out in a sigh when they pull apart.
His eyes have a sadness laced in them, one that makes Priya yearn to wrap their arms around him and pull him into their embrace where Micah can hide his face in their neck and they can whisper the heartache away.
"We should hurry so we can get these cupcakes to Reva."
They encourage him instead, and he nods in response.
On Micah's sixteenth birthday, he carries on leaving a small box of chocolate cupcakes outside Reva’s door like the year prior and following the years to come.
༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺ ༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺ ༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
"These are different from the ones made by Hecate and Minthe."
"That's cause I made them."
"You?" Quinn comes to a halt in the unwrapping of her cupcake, "Darling, you never told me you could bake."
"That's because the only thing he can do is make the same sloppy cupcakes every year."
The metal tray carrying all the cupcakes clatters to the ground loudly against the colored asphalt, the noise making everyone flinch and hold their breaths. When it doesn't seem like any guards are approaching them, Reva directs her attention back to the now ruined cupcakes on the ground.
"Was there really any need to be that dramatic?"
"You caught me off guard…" Micah rubs the back of his neck with a sigh, "You weren't exactly someone I expected to see. I needed to stand up quickly just in case I would need to…"
He trails off, and Quinn chimes in instead, "Reva, I'm so glad you decided to join us after all, dear. I was not sure if you would hold on to the invitation to seek us out, but I am very glad that you did."
"You asked her to come?"
"I did," Quinn replied in a nod, "But I was not expecting her to know about finding us in the gardens tonight. I was expecting her to find us throughout the day before the celebration of your birth."
"It was just a hunch…" Reva mumbled, "He loves losing himself in the gardens, so it wasn't like there was a huge list of places to look in the first place."
"Come, darling," Quinn scooted a brief distance away from Micah, the space between her and him open enough for one more person to sit down. "You shouldn't stay just standing. Lucky enough, I managed to salvage the cupcake in my hand. You should have it instead."
"Actually, it's fine," Reva doesn't need to glance up to know that Micah is studying her every move. "I brought my own batch that was left for me. So we can all grab out of here and throw the dirty ones in when we're done."
She takes her assigned seat and pops the box open, and though there's a small awkward edge to the conversations that follow throughout the night… Reva knows this is the brightest Micah's expressions have gotten after the loss of Priya.
At the start of Micah's eighteenth birthday, Reva starts making her own secret amends to her cousin.
༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺ ༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺ ༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
“Hey… you all good?”
A thing that could always be appreciated on a year to year basis was the fact that regardless of how hot the days would get, the nights during spring would always feel refreshing. They proved to be a big source of comfort for Micah whenever everything began to feel like too much. And though it wasn’t often that Reva would catch sight of him detaching himself from the group of their friends, that didn’t mean it didn’t raise any questions when he would.
“Yeah, what’s up?” His head tilts to the side at Reva’s sudden company, “Was Sylvs looking for me so I could cut the cake or something?”
“Nah, guess I was just left wondering. You haven’t really done this since we were small, y’know. Leave a party that’s supposed to be yours.”
“Can’t believe you still remember that.”
“How could I forget? We used to spend hours hanging out in some random balcony. Your parties really sucked back then, you know that, right?”
“Yeah, I know…” Glancing over his shoulder to the view within Asya’s apartment, Micah couldn’t help but smile at the crowd of people gathered inside. “You gotta admit though, this party isn’t that bad.”
“I suppose you’re not completely wrong,” she shrugged, “They’ve definitely become an upgrade from the ones you would have.”
“Revs,” It’s the tone of voice that Reva only hears once in a blue moon, the tone that gives Micah an edge which reminds her of the fact that at some point… this guy in front of her was more than the chaotic mess she’s come to see unravel. At some point, he was an heir. “I don’t want to mess this up.”
“What do you mean?”
His eyes don’t meet hers, but it’s not hard for Reva to pinpoint that Micah is studying everyone that gathered together to celebrate his birthday per Sylvee’s planning and request. And when Micah’s eyes land on his final target, it’s not hard for Reva to know who it is — the flowers that instantly crown his head in full bloom giving enough of a sign.
“Do you remember the last time a place felt like home. Do you even remember us having a home up until now?”
“You won’t mess this up,” Reva places her hand on top of his arm, finally drawing Micah’s gaze to meet hers. “And if you do, I’m personally kicking your ass myself.”
“Is that a promise?”
“A swear on my life.”
“A’ight, you win.” He gives her hand a small pat, and Reva gently pulls it away with a mock exasperated sigh to hide her embarrassment. “Let’s go ahead and head inside. Night’s still pretty early so we got lots of messing around to do before it ends.”
“Hold on…” Like all those years, long ago, Reva reaches inside the pocket of her oversized hoodie and pulls out a lump of napkins with obvious icing pouring out of the edges, “I thought it would be a nice throwback…” She focuses on unwrapping the napkins carefully, a tattered cupcake coming into view, “Happy birthday, Micah.”
There’s not enough time for him to react before she’s slipping right back inside the apartment, the messy cupcake in his hand the only proof that the moment had genuinely happened. With a grin, Micah takes a bite out of the small cupcake and relishes in the bittersweet nostalgia the old tradition brings to his heart.
Intertwined with the strands of his hair and mysterious red flowers, pink roses bloom and join the fray.
On his twenty-fifth birthday, Micah found the beginnings of home.
I need to get something off my chest.
I've been thinking about how my family officially found out (well, somewhat) about my practice and it's clinging to me. All of the emotions are latched on to me.
I've been wanting to tell you guys about what happened. That way you can learn from my experience. Because I'm honestly no different than any of you who haven't officially said your spirituality out loud.
So let's get this going:
--
First I want to say I don't officially know what I am.
I know my beliefs; I love the idea as everything is energy and manipulating it creates magic. That belief is reinforced every time I do a tarot reading or practice with my pendulum. I believe in the power of chakras, meditation, and balancing your body. I believe in your right to choose what you want out of your practice and not dictate what others should and shouldn't do. I like the ideas of Buddhism and reaching a state of enlightenment. I'm an eceltic cottage witch who likes tarot, green tarot, everything that has to do with Taurus, and five-hour baths.
But I don't know what I am religiously.
I don't dabble with deities, although I have thought of working with Hecate, Chang-E, or Nox.
But I don't know what I am religiously.
This is completely the opposite of how I grew up. I was raised as a Jehovah's Witness, I was even an Unbaptized Publisher (which is pretty much a fancy title for nothing) when I was nine.
But I remember a few things being wrong with that belief system. And I remember having a hard time with the smallest things growing up this way:
I wasn't allowed to say the Pledge of Allegiance in school. It was considered worshiping an idol. I had a teacher who refused to believe this and gave me the hardest time about it.
I remember sitting in class reading a "Young People Ask" book. Its a publication that's supposed to help explain puberty and going to school among those who aren't Witnesses to teens. There was a picture of a girl and boy kissing in a car. My grandmother came to school and whooped me because the teacher (same one as I previously mentioned) told her I was sneak reading it and being disgusting with the pictures.
I wasn't allowed to watch Scooby Doo, Harry Potter, or anything to do with ghosts, witches, demons, or anything magic. That's So Raven was off limits, especially.
I remember having a hard time explaining after Christmas break that I didn't have a Christmas. My grandparents did celebrate their wedding anniversary around that time and everyone received gifts from that, but no Christmas.
I wasn't allowed to go to Halloween parties or participate in them in school. I went trick or treating once when I was four or five; I was Blossom from PowerPuff Girls.
Birthdays aren't celebrated at all, as the two birthdays mentioned in the New Testament of Jehovah's Witnesses had someone killed. I kind of know how old my mother is and I definitely don't know how old my grandmother is because of this. It's awkward telling that to people.
I remember hearing a talk at a convention once when I had a crush on a boy who wasn't in "The Truth". We were in fourth grade, he was the son of the Vice-Principal, and was incredibly smart and sweet. A good kid. But that doesn't matter to Witnesses; you're not allowed to marry or date anyone outside of "The Truth". I remember crying my heart out during the meeting, my grandmother holding my head to her side to keep me quiet. I never told her why I was upset.
You see, growing up a Witness wasn't that bad. I didn't go anywhere really and stayed home, but I just was used to it. We weren't supposed to have friends outside the Kingdom Hall anyway.
But the problem was I felt dirty being there. I felt like an outsider. I remember looking at the two other people there that were my age and thinking about how different we were. I didn't want to be a missionary. I didn't want to give talks. I didn't want to go out in Field Service and go door-to-door. I didn't want to sit in that meeting three times a week; I constantly got in trouble for falling asleep.
The biggest wakeup call I had was when my mother tried to kill herself. I was nine, my sister was a few months old, and my mother had just gotten back into the congregation.
I still went to meetings with my grandmother, did everything the same, but didn't say anything about my mother. You see, my family doesn't like to talk about anything negative. Depression is a bad topic. Leaving the Kingdom Hall was worse.
My mother wasn't ever the same after that, but that's an entirely different discussion. But she plays apart in this story:
My mother has always prided herself on being "a friend to the friendless". She wears everything she does with a badge, even if it's not good. Like going to jail, being in a mental institution, or leaving her kids. She tries to make it sound like an amazing experience for her to have.
She has friends upon friends who are some of the lowest individuals you can think of. Thieves, drunks, druggies, etc. She helps them anyway. She considers herself their friend.
I never saw it that way. I just laid in my room, quietly cried and blasted music with a million candles lit. I read books I personally bought, like Vampire Diaries or Wolf at the Door. I loved Twilight, I'm not ashamed of it. It was an escape, especially with vampires.
One day, I received a gift from an ex-boyfriend: a pentacle necklace. I thought it was beautiful. I didn't have an association with the symbol, I just thought it was gorgeous.
I wore it everyday. My grandmother saw it, called me a demon lover and possessed, and my mother had me throw away all the books I bought. Over sixty. Twilight was spared because I was letting someone borrow them at the time and I told my mother I'd give them to him. His dog tore them to pieces.
Now, even though my family doesn't talk about and tends to forget negative things, if it's something bad that they don't like they'll never forget. Like me getting that necklace.
In December of 2015 I got married. We didn't have the money for a big ceremony, but we did our best. Bought a cake, made reservations for 15 people at a local Chinese place, and had a handfastening ceremony in the park. I made my dress from red velvet and leftover white fur from a Christmas show I was working on in college. My husband wore his interview clothes and a new cardigan. It was perfect for us.
Now, my husband wanted us to get married in winter. He hates the heat and I love the cooler time of year anyway. He chose December 21st for the first day of winter. Coincidentally that's also the winter solstice.
I got call after call, even the morning of the wedding, from my grandmother and mother about how I was being sneakily Pagan behind their back. They tried to back out of coming a good dozen times, but showed up anyway. They were the only ones from my side that did, along with my sister and my cousins under the age of seven.
I won't go into details, but my mother pretty much ruined my wedding day for my husband. I knew something bad was going to happen; I even asked my tarot cards the night before how it would go. It didn't end well.
They didnt know it, but the week before my husband and I found out we were pregnant with our daughter. I sent a letter to my mom, tried clearing the air, but before the baby was even mentioned I was pretty much disowned.
However, now that my daughter's here, my family felt a sense of entitlement. They wanted to see her. Everyone does when there's a baby. But dealing with birth and postpartum issues, I didn't want that.
So I decided a few weeks ago to call my mother and explain that I wasn't comfortable with the demanding nature of everything around my daughter. I'm still not. But she's my daughter, my decision.
She understood that, in her talking-over-me way.
Then I decided now was the time to tell her about my tarot business.
This is why: we're moving back up to where she lives soon. With how nosy everyone is, they were going to find out anyway. It's better to give a warning to avoid bigger issues down the line.
Plus my mother has a track record with hiding things like this from my grandmother. You know, to help me out and cause less drama. She'd do the same thing here, right?
Wrong.
She called me a demon, again. Didn't understand why I wanted to tell her about my business, about my spirituality. The same woman who says she'll always be there for my daughter in one sentence and then demonizes me, literally, in the next. And then she brought up my wedding day, saying I lied about getting married on the first day of winter.
How am I supposed to take that? I'm expected to lay down, agree, say I'm sorry, and forget about it. I'm expected to let her berate me and then demand to be near my child. I'm expected to agree to being a liar when I'm not.
So I cut her off. Her and everyone else.
I've dealt with the abuse my entire life. I've dealt with the toxicity my entire life. But this conversation, this hypocrisy, is not happening to my child. I don't want her to feel support and love and then complete dismissal from a family that's been there her whole life.
Not ever.
I wanted to share this because it's a constant conversation in the magical community about whether to stay quiet about your practice or expose it.
I do agree with some teachings; that you need to be like the Earth; silent and speaking when it's necessary.
I agree with keeping your craft from those who would cause harm or problems.
But I also believe in putting your foot down and nipping problems in the bud.
Should I have said anything? I think so. It was going to happen sooner or later.
I was tired of the constant battle over child care and if my business really matters and when I was going to make something of myself.
I was tired of not feeling any support.
I was tired of being told I was loved by the people who said they only cared about my baby.
I was tired of my husband being excluded from everything, and in turn me.
I was tired of being seen as less than a person by the people who raised me.
And I was tired of constantly being told, "You can always go to the Kingdom Hall".
No. I can't. And I won't.
I took some to sit down and talk with Karyn from The Lost Lemurian about my experience with coming out of the broom closet.
We also talked about how difficult it is to have an ongoing practice while living at home with religious restriction.
Take a look at our conversation here; lots of tips and tricks are given for practicing in everyday subtle ways.
--
Bit of a personal post today, but I hope I was able to help you in some way. Talking about your spirituality is such a sensitive topic. I just wanted to be open and honest with you guys about my own.
I also want to say if you guys ever need someone to rant to about things like this, feel free to email me. I'll listen. I'll help in any way I can. No matter what you believe, I promise that.
Chaos's Assassin 3
“Three days ago we sent team 1 to Earth to get rid of an upcoming threat. Today they have all been reported missing. We need you to go find them and help eliminate the threat.”
I wasn’t upset. I wasn’t excited either. I had been to earth on missions before so I wasn’t surprised really. My only concern was getting Willow and Nico back to Lily.
“What’s the threat?” I asked Chaos, curiosity getting the best of me. I sat in Chaos’s bland office with only a glass table between us. He tended not to keep much in his office, only some weapons and a couple of books on a shelf on the right wall.
“Well… I guess you could say he’s an old friend of yo-”
"is it Kronos?” I cut in.
“No, let me fini-”
“It’s it luke?”
“No, he’s dea-”
"Gaea?”
“I just said it was a bo-”
“Then who is it? Octavian?” I joked.
Chaos rubbed the back of his neck. Glancing nervously about the room with a look of uncomfort on his face.
“It’s Octavian isn’t it.” I said with a blank expression.
Chaos nodded.
“I am not impressed. I had rather hoped he would die.” I said truthfully, looking across the room to glass windows behind Chaos.
“So did we all. He’s more annoying than the most annoying person I know, and I know a lot of annoying people.” Chaos said.
“Ditto. Wait a minute, you said that they were reported missing. Who reported it?”
“Camp Jupiter and… Camp Half Blood” He said finding his nails very interesting.
I nodded, unsure of how to feel about his answer. I was happy of course. But it had been so long…
“I assume that I’ll be staying with either one.” I said, avoiding eye contact.
“Camp Half Blood.” Chaos said.
I nodded, internally sighing in exasperation.
“Is that it?” I asked him.
“Yup, you leave tomorrow.”
I nodded once more and stood up to leave his office. When at the door, I paused.
“Chaos?” I asked, turning around to face him. “Did you do it."
He looked me straight in the eyes and said,
"I don’t break my promises.”
“You ready?” Rebecca asked me as she passed me my backpack at the mouth of the woods the next day.
“I’m not too sure.” I replied, clipping my hood onto the leather jacket i wore. Luckily for me, my hood cast a dark shadow upon my face that no one could see through.
“Brace yourself.” She said to me.
I nodded.
“i’ll see you later then” I told her, reaching for the tree with the teleportation beam.
“Omega,” Rebecca said before I could leave. “Bring them back will you.”
“You can count on it.” I said with a tight smile.
The sun looked absolutely stunning on the horizon as it disappeared behind the forest of trees. The Camp appeared just as gorgeous as how it had been when I had left. Thalia’s pine tree still sat there with Peleus wrapped around its bark. Down the hill the Big house stood in all its glory with the twelve cabins, the amphitheatre, the climbing wall and of course the toilets being the first things in my line of sight. I breathed in the clear air and made my way down towards Chiron sitting on the porch of the, oh so mighty, light blue barn.
“Hello my son. Who might you be and what might you be doing here?” Asked Chiron once I had finally made it down the steep hill, his brown eyes glistening in the dusk atmosphere and his tweed jacket looking battered as ever as he sat on his little wheelchair.
“Ahh, you must be Chiron.” I stated.
“That would be I, but I ask again. Who might you be?”
“My name is Omega and I am Chaos’s assassin. I have come to get Chaos’s soldiers back and help with the upcoming threat.”
“I take it by ‘upcoming threat’ you mean Octavian.” Chiron asked.
“That is correct.” I replied.
“Therefore your help is much appreciated.”
“Thank you.”
He nodded.
“The rest of the Camp is at the campfire if you would like to introduce yourself.” He told me. I shook my head.
“Excuse my rudeness, but I would prefer to stay out of sights at the moment and simply borrow a room in this lovely house for the night.”
“Please, that is not a problem, we have a room already prepared inside, if you would like to take it.”
“Thank you. I hope it is not inconvenient for me to suggest a war meeting tomorrow morning?”
“Not at all,” he replied, “it would be our pleasure.“
I began to make my way towards the doorway, until he stopped me before I could leave.
"I take it you’re not going to take off your hood.” He said.
“I am the most known Assassin in the universe. I think it’s safer for both our sakes to keep it on.” I answered.
With that I turned around and walked into the Big House. I was home… For a while.
I had once been told that the worst part of being in a war was the actual planning. Who ever said it was right. Sitting at the ping - pong table in the rec room I felt completely at home. Completely comfortable. And completely bored. But I kept my guard up. I had toured the Camp with a clueless Chiron this morning and had learnt two things. One; the seven demigods I had gotten so close to all those years ago weren’t here. And two, last time I had been here I had known every single face in the camp. This time there was about 20 newcomers. May not have seemed like a lot, but it was a pain in the neck to not be able to refer to everyone by name. It was strange really. It hadn’t been long ago that I had left. At least not for everyone else.
“We had better get started then.” Chiron announced to the room, “We are missing some of our leaders at the moment as they are in Camp Jupiter making plans, but we can cope without them.”
“Personally I think we’re better off without those wannabe’s.” I heard Drew say. Dam, I had hoped she had left in the time I had been gone.
“Shut up Drew.” Malcolm spat.
“And what gives you the right to say that to me?” She replied, her face smothered in hate.
“And what gives you the right to be rude to any of us?” Conner retorted.
“All right, all right.” Chiron hollered. “Settle down. We don’t want to be rude in front of our guest now do we?” he asked, motioning to me. I smiled slightly under my hood. I had missed this. The bickering wasn’t quite the same with Chaos.
“Anyway Malcolm, you’re the best battle strategist present. What do you propose?”
“Well, it was obviously Octavian who took Chaos’s soldiers so we only have one option. We have to prepare for a full scale attack before they have the upper hand.”
“Wrong.” I interrupted, looking at my nails. Everyone’s heads turned towards me.
“Excuse me?” A daughter of Hecate asked.
“Your wrong.” I replied, “You immediately assume there was no other option other than a full scale war, something we up in Chaos HQ are avoiding, therefore, I don’t agree.”
“Oh really?” Challenged Malcolm, “and what do you suggest?”
“Octavian’s not stupid, he knows how to plan a war and he has spies everywhere. Going offence will kill us all. He’ll be rallying all of the monsters from Tartarus, and even some Titans, we don’t have enough people. They will crush us on our own. Even with Camp Jupiter we have no chance. We need the Chaos warriors.”
“So what do you think we should do, Einstein?” Katie asked, a mask of annoyance on her normally calm face.
“We need to give out a quest.” I replied, “only the people in this room and the ones actually on the quest can know about it, so as not to alert any spies.”
“So you think we should just send a couple of random Campers into the enemy’s base, and their deaths, just to save some supposedly Elite warriors whom had got themselve kidnapped?” Clarisse La Rue asked, playing with her knife.
“No, I suggest giving a quest to two of the seven to find Octavian’s plans and free the Chaos soldiers.” I replied.
“But if they go on this mission and die, then we’ll have lost two of our best soldiers!” Travis said alarmed.
“Then let’s all hope they aren’t that stupid.”
“Then who’s going to be the third person?” Katie asked, “I don’t know how it is on Chaos’s realm, but over here three people go on Quests together.”
“I distinctly remember you breaking that rule a couple of times.”
“Those were special circumstances.” Clarisse butt in, “and how do you know about that?”
“It doesn’t matter, because I was rather hoping it would be me that went with them.”
“Why?” Clarisse demanded.
“Because, Clarisse La Rue, Daughter of Ares, I made a promise to my favourite little girl that I would get her parents home in time for Christmas. And I intend to keep it. On my own terms.”
I couldn’t tell if they were shocked because I knew about Clarisse, or because I just showed human qualities.
“And whose ‘Them’ going to be?” Connor asked.
“Honestly, I couldn’t care less. As long as they can keep up, you can decide yourselves.”
“Fine,” Clarissa said “have it your way, i nominate myself and, i cant believe im saying this, one of the seven.”
“Hey, how come you get all the quests? I think it’s our turn this time!” Travis exclaimed, him and his brother both standing up at the same time. Determination masking their identical faces.
“What?” Shouted a voice from the back of the room.
It was like a lightswitch suddenly flicked up and the room descended into chaos. There were people standing and threatening others, I could even see some people with knives and swords out. Even a bow and arrow was present.
After a couple of minutes i got bored of all the shouting. Chiron was trying to calm everyone down but it wasn’t working very well.
“All right, i get it, you’ve all been deprived! Now shut up.” Luckily i had had lots of practise with screaming at Chaos.
Everyone’s heads turned towards me. The attention was flattering, but unnecessary.
“He has a point guys,” said Katie, the ever so peaceful one, “anyway, hadn’t we decided two of the seven would go? They can chose between themselves when they get back.”
“And when will I be able to meet the ever so famous 7?” I asked, trying not to give too much away with how much I was dying to see them.
“Well, technically there are only 6 of them. We lost one just a year ago.” Will said, pain evident in his voice and his shoulders sagging.
My stomach fell and for a moment i couldn’t breathe. The world around me faded into the background and all I could hear was the beating of my heart. Hadn’t it worked? Chaos said he had done it. He said he had saved her. I felt the world swim and could feel a panic attack surfacing. But I pushed it down. Not here. Not now. And so I closed my eyes and focused on one thing. Her face. Slowly my breathing leveled and my heart beat turned back to normal. It was then I realised that I had missed the end of the meeting and people were starting to leave.
I quickly grabbed Nyssa’s arm before she could leave. “I’m so sorry, but i spaced out for a minute and didn’t hear the answer to my question. What was it?”
“Oh, you’ll see them tonight at the bonfire.” She replied curiosity showing clearly.
“Thanks.” I said. Then I stood up and walked out the room.
