The tone in this episode was so weird. It should have been just the Halloween Haunt Fest at the firehouse and the 118 getting into dumb accidents related to Billy Boils once they found out he was an actual corpse, and the Han - Wilson family trick or treating and visiting the firehouse at the end.

Do you ever think that if Dazai one day decided to do things the conventional way, or act the closest thing to what people call normal, how much that'd freak out the people familiar with him?

-> Dazai walking into the PM with no bandages on, wearing a casual outfit fit for his age, to which Chuuya does a double take at, gaping in horror.

At first, Chuuya'd take on their normal bickering, rub his eyes dramatically as if he's seeing things- "Who the fuck are you???" He'd exclaim. But then he'd bombard him with questions, ask if he'd run out of bandages, tell him he has extra rolls in his office-

"You're acting as if being wrapped up in gauze is normal, stupid slug."

"It is for you."

-> Dazai finishing his whole plate of curry, asking for seconds, and Oda would watch him with eyes widened a fraction, his own version of a shocked stare.

He wouldn't say anything, because he's afraid that drawing attention to the action would make Dazai stop doing it. He'd share that with Ango later, though, and Ango wouldn't even believe him.

→ (tw) Dazai not expressing his infatuatation about suicide for an entire week, disappearing for Kunikida to find him in his dorm instead of the usual river.

He's sit with him, ask if he's okay, fumble his words when he touches on the subject. Because how can you approach someone about your concern regarding their lack of suicidal tendencies, lately?

-> Dazai showing up early to the ada, taking his coat off, and immediately working.

The whole agency would hide behind the entrance, watch him with wide eyes as they share questioning looks.

"He- He didn't flop on the couch at all???"

"He didn't even look its way!"

"I mean, that's great, but something just doesn't sit right with me-"

"Is he sick?"

"Even I can't explain what's happening right now."

"Someone do something!"

And ppl often assume that Kunikida would be ecstatic about this, but no, I believe he'd be the most horrified one of all, trying to make sense of things but ending up empty handed. 😭

Fukuzawa would come up to find a swarm at the door, watching something inside that he'd assume to be a spider at first.

"What is going on here?"

"Dazai's working."

Fukuzawa'd rush to confirm, and sure enough.

He'd sigh in resignation, knowing this day would come.

"Get the exorcist."

It's endlessly amusing, how Dazai has his own version of conventional that if he were to deviate from, just slightly, panic would ensue through the people he's familiar with.

Even if it leads him to do healthier actions.

Something is wrong, and they need to figure out what, because this isn't the Dazai they know.

love seeing your takes on mouthwashing and how sane they are. everything's so black or white. I like how you acknowledge curlys abuse under jimmy (which I honestly didn't quite notice when I first watched a playthrough. should rewatch w this in mind) and how that very much doesn't "forgive" his inaction towards Anya and Her abuse under jimmy. I think what happens to him despite all his issues (bc he clearly wasn't OK 😊✌🏼) is very much karmic. I really did hurt huh

I hate the take that what happened to him is karmic as becoming disabled and being tortured is like not in any way an equal consequence for not taking more action against Jimmy. It is a consequence as is the whole game for everyone but it’s one that is very much established as being undeserved and extreme as everyone else’s but Jimmy’s fate.

Thank you for liking my takes but I also try to point out that this exact sort of framing of the events and what happened to Curly is bad especially if you are gonna factor in his own abuse into the equation of his inaction/ineffective acts. It’s like “saying yeah he deserved the abuse he was already going through to escalate because he didn’t do enough” which is like not a message the game tries to deliver at all. It’s like the game shows that abusers escalate

Karma and punishment are not concepts that I think should be directly tied to Curly’s fate especially since during the game and even in discussion he takes on too many consequences of someone else’s actions. Like this framing is the direct thing I describe taking the discussion away from Jimmy, P.E and the factors that created the environment in the first place.

MAN I'm seriously so sad about season 2. Bc I wish act 2 had the same emotional impact on me as it appears to have on so many others. But rn I'm just somewhere between unable to care and actively annoyed by some of those writing decisions. Seriously the more I think about it the less I like it.

I gotta say I did not expect I’d love Miles this much, enough to look up shit like Secret War and Civil War II reading order, and worse, subject myself to Bendis’ writing of all things (he’s the reason why I stopped being a comic stan 5 years ago. I were a DC/ Superfam fan. You know the beef was BEEFING). Like, my tolerance of that dude now only stops at him being one of Miles’ creators. So that better writers can do the kid justice years later. That’s it.

Like, why is the “r u and Ganke together haha” a whole shtick that comes up multiple times during his run? It’s so annoying and painful to read. Miles can go around being paired up with different girls but the moment THAT question came up you know he gonna be super defensive and >:( about it which, eh, just does not line up with anything else happening in whatever story is happening at the time. At all.

The only silver of light is that Miles actually never says he doesn’t like boys, he just denies ever dating Ganke. Like, he could just say he doesn’t swing that way and the question would have stopped, but he doesn’t. So I know he be running around kissing the punk-est boy in the whole spider verse, ha!

Idk I’m near the end of Bendis’ run and some of it r good but a lot of them put me thru excruciating pain (cringe) so I have to complain about it.

On the one hand, Kind of bummed out that the OG soundtrack isn't coming to the Steam / Switch port of OFF

but on the other hand it doesn't seem like the freeware version is going anywhere and it's not as if you can't find the OG sountrack.

I will do my best to be open minded and the new soundtrack might also be great, but it really is that one thing spoken about with translation in those Legends of Localization Books RE: How people feel about translations they're more familiar with vs newer ones. Except rather than the translation it's the soundtrack and how much effect the soundtrack has on the game

thinking of tai and nat and their confrontations with what they did. how for tai it's a shocking revelation in the light of day. she wakes up, stomach full, unaware. it's almost like a violation of HER body. meanwhile for nat it's dealing with what she willingly chose to do in the cover of the night. but after that... dreamlike scene from the last episode, where they indulge in a fantasy, where the night warps the reality of what's happening, in the bright daylight they have to look at jackie's remains and acknowledge it. and for tai it's a terrifying moment of realizing she's completely lost what control she still had of her body and actions (when she first saw the remains and didn't know what happened. did she think the wolves did it? how does she feel remembering the wolf that bit off a chunk of van's face and hearing that that's what she did to jackie?) and for nat it's this quiet, sad and dreadful feeling of failure (she's the hunter and this is her purpose and they were running out of food. and nat is still trying to rationalize what happened, reluctantly taking part in their rituals while not quite believing) and a need to take care of her bones, of treating her remains with respect but also waiting to be alone with them to talk to her, to thank her, to apologize

I used to be disgusted at the fact that rich women were the exception to ridicule of having babies out of wedlock due to their financial status. Single motherhood is always made adjacent to "being broke". So when a woman is financially stable, people who aren't themselves seem to not care about them not having a husband. It's similar to how folks don't care about rich men being deadbeats, because apparently children needing active father figures in their home suddenly doesn't matter if their wealthy daddies can afford to pay a significant amount of child support.

But the way that the Black community is currently so obsessed w/ tearing down Keke, Halle & Skai, I see that the true exception is being rich and still in a relationship with the child(ren)'s father - regardless of how triflin he may be. I do acknowledge that things would be extremely different if they weren't as public w/ their relationships to begin with (especially the men in these situations bc my gosh have they been embarrassing 🤦🏾‍♀️), but it really sucks to see that women's relationship statuses and our proximity to men in general still matters this much to people.

i understand the need to defend Veilguard as something unique and different from other games because it's the natural response when you are enjoying the new thing that is different than previous installments and is therefore, of course, getting flack from the old guard over not being like previous installments, but I will say, everything I've seen out of Veilguard, particularly what people are liking about it, does seem to be extremely Mass Effect-esque to the point where it feels extremely weird to see these posts praising Veilguard as such a new and unique thing and then word-for-word describe things that literally made the original Mass Effect trilogy such a beloved franchise in the western RPG canon like we are suddenly from a universe where Mass Effect does not exist.

Just wanted to mention this to someone who does art and get their opinion on it:

Sometimes I see some artists do redraws of their old artworks or characters and think "Wow, uh... their older art looks better." Sometimes it's only mildly better, but other times it's vastly better. Like the Upgrade, Go Back! meme.

I understand that art skills are supposed to develop and change, hopefully for the better, but sometimes it just feels like they got... worse? Somehow? Idk. Maybe it's because they were copying another artist's style while finding their own, and it's their own style that doesn't vibe with me? Just curious what your thoughts are about this.

Also, your art has consistently been great, so this isn't directed at you.

I do see this on occasion yeah! usually (in my experience anyway) its because people take a sharp turn towards a stylization that either isn't to your or most people's tastes, or that they don't understand or are still developing. switching up how you stylize your art is like starting over in a sense, you're changing from what you have practice with and that's always going to cause you to revert some as you have to re-learn things you understood in your previous style. i had a pretty big style shift in 2014 when i took up the basis for how my art looks now, and i remember feeling like some of the stuff i was drawing might have looked better if i was using my older style instead. that's something artists just have to push through and figure out, and they'll likely come out of it a better artist than they were before. constructive critiques are a good way for them to figure out why their art might not be as "good" as it used to be, if they're open for those.

art is not always a linear journey, and i would also say things like passion and motivation have a part in it too. feeling inspired sparks you to make something the best it can be, if you're not feeling it (and esp if that feeling lasts for a long time) it'll leave you making decisions you otherwise would not have let fly, and that can result in worse art. and some of it is just personal preference! it's not that their art is better or worse, it's just different now, and maybe that doesn't vibe with you the same way their old stuff did. and that's fine 👍
