Happy Friday everyone! How's the Madney wedding hangovers?!

Back again with another round of the fic I've been reading this week. You can find previous rec lists here. As previously I'm here for all buddie/bucktommy/buddietommy configurations and just excited by all the possibilities!

all's well that ends well (to end up with you) by @buddie-buddie is such a perfect soft bucktommy 7x06 coda, post-soot scene. Finally getting a moment to themselves, with all the excitement and flirty banter of their dialogue (including Tommy's penchant for a little dry quip), and the sweet newness of falling into their developing relationship. I also really appreciated how the author portrayed Buck's parents as not being some mega villain cartoons but complicated people who hurt him but who are nonetheless trying - absolutely nailing that slightly scabbed over but not fully healed relationship.

to open up my arms and give it all to you by llovely @butchdiaz works as a great gap filler post-7x04 coming out to Chris moment, and I cannot overstate how much I love Chris and Buck's conversation and Buck's realisation moment (take two) here. SUPER Diaz-Buckley family shaped, with Buck coming over for dinner after a date with Tommy and updating Chris on his life as of late. Lovely and supportive.

why can’t i have two? by @prettyboybuckley say no to shipwars say yes to threesomes! Tommy and Buck invite Eddie over so Buck can break the news about his newfound relationship status and bisexuality. Eddie is supportive...otherwise he'd be a hypocrite (in theory.) Tommy and Buck decide the best thing to do would be to help him see if maybe he's sure in practice too. Love me some 'let us help you out with that' fic, and this one is a gem!

don't just stand there by laurenttheninth @smallandalmosthonest SPEAKING OF! In which Eddie interruptus and Buck is maybe kinda sorta okay with that actually. A+ accidental exhibitionism kink discovery, with fantastic dialogue characterisation and just really really fun established bucktommy and buddie dynamics all wrapped into one. Still a wip but each chapter can be read standalone.

Also massive shout out to @usereddie for this Eddie and Hen 7x06 buddie coda, in which Eddie goes to a trusted source for some self reflection. Packing an emotional punch into a ficlet.

Seriously, I want a fic where things happen just a little differently in Stolen Earth. Like, Jack gets there a few minutes quicker, checks out the area, finds a patrolling Dalek and blows it straight to hell, and then meets up with the Doctor and Donna as they come out of the TARDIS. The Doctor asks Donna about what Rose told her in the parallel timeline. Jack keeps scanning the immediate area, watching for more Daleks. Donna then spots Rose and tells the Doctor to ask her himself. Jack and the Doctor both turn and see Rose down the street. Jack bites off a curse in shocked delight, and the Doctor just takes off like a shot.

Rose and the Doctor meet again on a deserted street and this time, there is no Dalek to commit Reunion-us Interruptus. They come together on that street. Rose drops her gun just before the Doctor crashes into her, nearly sending them both to the asphalt. They hug each other tightly and then the Doctor pulls back just enough to straight up cover Rose’s face with kisses before she gets a hold of his head to hold him still for her to plant one right on his lips. They kiss under the streetlights and it’s all very romantic and Donna beams, glances at the church not too far away, and starts planning their wedding in her head. Jack is also thrilled, but also aware that, you know, invasion, Daleks, death, destruction, woe, and has to interrupt them. They make their way into the TARDIS - though not before Jack also gets a big hug from Rose too because hey, he loves her too! - and things continue on their course. 

Of course, this all begs the question of what will happen without the regeneration energy being shunted into Ten’s spare hand and its ability to activate the DoctorDonna and spawn the Metacrisis Doctor, but really, I just want Ten and Rose to have the reunion they deserved damn it! Is that too much to ask?!

Mike didn’t RSVP and come to the wedding just to see Ginny—he’d been to Stubbs’ last wedding and remembered the cake fondly—but it was at the top of his list. A year out from retirement, a year he’d spent getting his head on straight, and he was ready. Ready for a real life outside of the game. Ready for what was next. 

Ready for Ginny. 

And now that he’d seen her, wearing something yellow and floaty and perfect, he wasn’t willing to wait much longer. 

He’d gotten through the ceremony and cocktail hour and even sat through the entire dinner, but that was the extent of his patience. So, when she got up from her seat two tables away and headed for the doors to the patio, Mike followed after. 

Outlined by the setting sun, Ginny glowed. All Mike could do was stare, even when she sensed him and turned to look back. With the light behind her, he couldn’t quite make out her expression, so he approached, stopping close enough to catch the scent of her perfume and her gauzy dress to billow against his legs. 

She looked down and fixed her skirt. “Didn’t expect to see you here.”

“Wouldn’t miss it. I’ve been to all of Stubbs’ weddings.”

A grin stole across her full, pink lips as she peeked up at him. But the teasing he expected—”Doesn’t that make you bad luck, then?”—never came. Ginny just straightened and turned back to lean against the railing and stare out over the golden water. “Well, it’s nice you could make it.”

Mike grinned back, wanting her to look at him again. She didn’t oblige. Still, he joined her at the rail, angling to keep drinking her in. 

“I never stopped loving you.” 

He didn’t mean to say it, not so baldly and not so abruptly, but once the words were out, he couldn’t bring himself to regret it. He’d bit back that confession for two seasons and the past year; he was done keeping them inside.

Finally, Ginny turned, lifting wide eyes and a wrinkle between her brows to him. On bated breath, he awaited her response.

“When did you even start?”

All the oxygen rushed out of him. “C’mon, Gin,” he rasped, practically begging, needing to believe he hadn’t been wrong about this. “You know.”

“I don’t!” she insisted, backing away when he reached for her and twisting her fingers into the fabric of her skirt. Mike let his hand drop, too busy breathing through the punch to the gut. “Three years, and you never once said what you actually feel about me!”

“Because you said we weren’t talking about it!”

“While you were a ballplayer! My teammate. My captain. Of course we couldn’t talk about it!"

“So I didn’t!” Mike could hear his voice rising, and tried to swallow it back, but the anger was still there.

So was Ginny’s if the hard set of her jaw was any clue. “And then you kept on not saying anything this whole year. Can you really blame me for thinking I’d imagined it all?”

She tried to hold it back, but her voice broke, and then nothing else mattered. All Mike wanted was to take Ginny in his arms and assure her that she hadn’t. He loved her and wasn’t going to stop anytime soon. 

But when he reached for her, she pulled back again, shaking her head. 

“Gin, I’m sorry,” he tried. “I’m an idiot. I never should’ve—”

“I’m seeing someone.”

Those three words hung heavily in the darkening air. Mike’s brain refused to process them for a long moment, but in the face of Ginny’s flat, stony expression, his denial withered and faded. 

“You are?”

Something in Ginny’s demeanor fell at the break in his own voice, but she didn’t it, and she wasn’t lying. “Yeah.”

“Oh.” Mike swallowed down the shattered pieces of his heart, hoping they’d fall back into his chest in roughly the right order. “Uh, great. That’s great.”

“Mike—”

He shook his head and backed away. “It’s great,” he repeated. “I just want you to be happy, Gin.” 

This far away, he couldn’t tell if it was doubt or acceptance in her eyes, but it hardly mattered. The image of Ginny Baker, the sun dying in the Pacific Ocean behind her, would be etched into his memory forever. Somehow, he doubted that it would ever hurt less than this.

Wizards Hearts Recs: 5 Times + 1

Soon after, Patrick moves home to Canada for his dream job before the Roses lose their money and David lands in Schitt's Creek. With canon highlights weaved throughout, it navigates David being the reluctant best man at Patrick and Rachel's wedding weekend. If you like seeing David be brave, Marcy Brewer being the best, Patrick realizing what truly is right for him, I think you will appreciate this story.

I don’t have a fic rec page. I've been thinking about making one for a long time, but I haven’t. Still, I’m going to list some of my favorite fics and add the summary.

Burden by riseofthefallenone (WIP, mutant!AU)

Mutants are considered second class citizens, or worse. Discriminated against at every turn, mutants are marked and monitored by The Registry and any deemed too dangerous are taken away to The Facility. It’s no surprise that many try to hide or choose a more permanent way out if a mutation develops.

Castiel’s parents hid his mutation and hid him away from the world. He’s grown up with the knowledge that the world will hate him, no matter what he does. If he leaves the house, he can only do it with a long, heavy coat that covers the most beautiful part of him.

It takes a pair of brothers to help him really spread his wings and live.

Cuckoo And Nest by komodobits (canon!verse)

For a long time, Castiel thought that every earthly possession other than the immediately necessary was excess to requirement. But Dean – Dean who named his car, who keeps a photograph of his mother in his wallet, some thirty-plus years after her death, who still has the crumpled ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign with a sleeping pelican emblazoned on it from the Microtel outside of Roanoke where he first kissed Castiel, clumsy and unsure, under the unsteady fluorescence of an exhausted bathroom bulb – is sentimental.

After a heated exchange upon first meeting, a mutual loathing afterwards, and the glaring opposites in their lives, neither of them sees the point of mixing oil and water. Which would be all good and well, except neither of them seems to be able to stay away from the other.

Dean Winchester has been alone for a long, long time.

When he and Castiel happen to find each other - a couple of survivors in a world that’s been all but wiped clean - Dean’s looking for his brother; Castiel is looking for something to look for. This must be some kind of horrible joke at Castiel’s expense. Is he truly expected to protect a King? One who has been their enemy for as long as he can remember? He is much more suited to being a part of the army, or at the very least someone who helps to train the knights. That would be far more preferred than having to watch over the King. It means Castiel would get to keep fighting – and that’s the only way he knows to give meaning to his life.

Still Got It: A fic that’ll launch towards the end of the CHC, where an older Piotr and Reader wind up cleaning out one of the sheds at the end of the school year, find where some of the students have been hooking up, then prove that the passion in their marriage is still Very Strong, Thank You Very Much.

Possibly some fics showing the conception moments for each of their kids. Still debating those.

I had sudden urge to binge watch all of Shadowhunters earlier this week (almost done, in middle of final episode).

I never really read the books (idk, I tried reading City of Bones but for some reason I had trouble getting into it and gave up not too far into it, iirc it was around Clary and Jace going to the Silent Brothers. A part of me thinks maybe hearing not so great murmurings on livejournal or such about the author kind of made me unable to hook into it) but for some reason something Malec related popped up on my YouTube recommended stuff ages ago (might’ve been wedding interuptus and other stuff, like a fan made video compilation of them leading up to and including that scene) , so watched it out of curiousity and it kinda stuck with me. Last week I was in a sudden mood to binge watch Glee, and halfway through that was like “oh hey I vaguely remember seeing that clip and Harry Shum Jr playing a whole different type of character....let me check that out again”

Which then led to seeing other Malec scenes and then being like okay where can I watch the series so these cute/sweet/omg the annnnnngst/amazing lil clips are in the proper context? Hulu? Score!

So now with proper context, and in general enjoying the show, unsurprisingly I have become massive Malec trash, send help! 😂

Thinking about it, I’m realizing aside from Glee/HSJ connection, it’s not too different from how I fell down the dragon age rabbit hole. I watched a countdown video on YouTube (might’ve been something like funniest/most awkward scenes in video games this past year late 2014/early 2015) that featured the Iron Bull coitus interruptus scene, which led to curiousity making me seek out other DAI clips until I was like “okay let me play this for myself!” and though first run through I romanced Cullen, by my second go around I was utterly irrevocably Iron Bull/Bullmance obsessed.

I’m toying with the idea of writing a short-ish Malec-y one shot, maybe as like something to energize me so as to return to working on Take Me to Church (so doing some writing but without the feeling of a long term commitment of longer stuff) but not sure yet. It feels like, when it comes to me and fic writing, the idea marínate on my brain and it’s practically fully written before it reaches a fever pitch and I’m finally like “okay this needs to be written, now!” And I’m currently still in the marinating phase lol.

"Stay with me, honeybee, please, God, stay with me..." John holds him tight enough to crush him, and he wishes he could feel it more through the pain radiating through his side from Abigails’ bullet. Joseph wants to stay, wants to reach up and wipe away the tears that spill down Johns' cheek and drip onto his own. But his arm seems too heavy, uncooperative, only twitching limply at his side. It's so hard to keep his eyes open, and the warm pool of blood forming beneath him and Johns' heat against him does nothing to fight off the chill overtaking him. "I'm sorry....." "Don't say that! Don't you dare goddamn apologize to me, you ain't goin' nowhere, you can't, I need--" "Jack needs....his father. That's why I..." Words are getting harder to find, but John seems to understand anyway, eyes going as wide as dinner plates. It's the last thing Joseph sees before he blacks out. ---------- It's disorienting, waking up after you thought for sure you had died. Was this heaven? He had never thought he had done enough good to get into heaven. Then again, he would never thought heaven would look so much like Shady Belle, either. His own room and everything, complete with an angel who looked a lot like John asleep fitfully in the space on the bed beside him. Late afternoon light spills in through the windows, tinting everything with a wonderful orange glow. John. It makes his chest ache, to think about what the real one was doing right now. Probably at his funeral, if they hadn't had it already. Lord knows how much differently time worked in heaven. Was there pain in heaven? Joseph didn't think so. Maybe he should have read his bible more as a kid. Was this Hell? The thought shakes him to the core. Hesitantly, he reaches his hand out to touch not-Johns hair. The feeling of the greasy strands under his fingertips was just like he remembered, from the few times he had gotten to touch it. Carefully, he works his way through the tangles in a way he had dreamed about when he was alive, delighting at how not-John stirs awake, slowly taking him in with sleepy, dark eyes that send a spark down his spine when they met his own. Definitely not hell. "You gotta be an angel, right?" The hushed words sound stupid when they came out of his much-too-dry mouth. A strong pair of arms was crushing him against his chest within an instant, although they wrapped around his torso instead of his waist, which still twinged a bit when he tried to move. "You're awake," He even sounded like John, the rasp in his relieved voice music to his ears. "They said you might not--" He cuts himself off, choked up, and Joseph inhales the scent of him, cigarette smoke and wood-smoke and gun-smoke all rolled into one. It clicks, all at once. "I ain't......dead?" He looks up, confused, and John is in tears again, wetness dripping over the scars along his jawline. Carefully, he reaches up to touch him, fingertips drifting over the pale marks, and marvels at the way he leans into his touch like he's starving for it. He should have known; angels probably couldn't be as perfect as John Marston even on their best days. "How long have I been.....?" He trails off, far too wrapped up in touching John and how he reacts to it to finish his sentence. "Over a month. I thought...." John pulls him closer, pressing his face into his hair and inhaling to steady himself, even though Joseph can feel the sob that wracks his frame. "I thought I lost you." The way his voice cracks on the words hurts more than the gunshot did. He leans up as much as he can to press a little kiss at the hollow of his throat, moving his hand to clutch at his shirt collar. "I'm sorry, I just, I couldn't let it be you. I couldn't- couldn't lose you again. Not for good." It spills out before he can stop it. "And Jack-" "Jack's been worried sick about you. Y'think the boy doesn't think of you as his father as much as he does me?" The words take his breath away, make tears well up in his eyes. "Y'ain't allowed to leave us, Joseph. Not for a long damn time." His grip on Johns' shirt tightens. "I won't. Promise."
