World’s End Club Headcanon Masterpost (The Go-Getters)

Cheers to the first post of 2024!!!

In General

They all have an aptly named “Ice cream day”, in which they ride off to the nearest ice cream shop to get their favorite flavors. And if you’re curious, here are each of their fave flavors:

Reycho- Caramel Banana

Vanilla- Vanilla Bean Marshmallow (Obviously)

Kansai- Tiger Milk Tea

Chuko- Cheesecake

Mowchan- Everything But The Kitchen Sink

Nyoro- Strawberries and Cream

Aniki- Toasted Oatmeal

Pai- Maple Bacon

Tattsun- Dragonfruit

Pochi- Neopolitan

Jennu- Ube

Yuki- Frosted Sugar Cookie

Each of them has a friendship bracelet- each having charms of their favorite things. Ex- Reycho has a Fist, Vanilla has a Marshmallow, Pochi has an MP3 Player, Nyoro has a robot, Mowchan has a burger, Chuko has a chili pepper, Tattsun has an Electro Rangers mask, Kansai has a ball and bat, Pai has a flower, Aniki has a guitar, Jennu has Comedy and Tragedy masks, and Yuki has a snowflake.

When it comes to crafting, they have an entire shack when it comes to it. They even invite other kids from around to join in!

Reycho

He’s currently getting baseball lessons from Kansai.

He loves drawing- a lot. Especially when it comes to sports!

He uses sign language to communicate with his friends.

Vanilla

She is quite good at sewing little dolls of yarn!

She enjoys a good storybook or two- especially picture ones.

Dressing up is one of her biggest interests- she also loves taking bubble baths after long days.

Pochi

He’s got a connection to animals- especially dogs. He loves puppies most of all.

He and Reycho moved in with Vanilla and Aniki after the main story, so they’re part of the family.

Not just that, he often invites the others to play video games together and share snacks.

Nyoro

She is arguably the BEST at drawing in the group- all the drawings of blueprints had to start somewhere!

She designs bead jewelry and keychains for her friends to give on their birthdays.

It took a long time for her to forgive her dad, but she did it in giving him a bag keychain she made herself.

Mowchan

He works at food drives so he can spread happiness to those who need it the most.

He makes his own “Secret Sauce”, which is Mayo, ketchup, a bit of soy sauce, a handful of spices, salt, pepper, and a dash of hot sauce.

His parents definitely own a local restaurant.

Chuko

She absolutely HATES bullies. And whenever she sees an innocent person being bullied, she decides to stand up for them.

Her comfort food is definitely anything with cheese. Especially pasta with said ingredient.

She won’t hesitate to jump into action when someone is in danger.

Tattsun

He has an entire collection of comic and manga books at home, mostly ones of Shonen anime.

He has Electro Ranger suits for all of his friends in his closet in case they need to wear them to a convention.

One of his most prized collectibles is a limited edition comic con exclusive Power Rangers Megazord toy.

Kansai

He collects baseball cards. Enough said.

He keeps an entire pack of bubblegum on him for emergencies.

He often invites the others to baseball games at their local park to play together.

Pai

She is an expert in babysitting and always packs extra clothing for everyone when they go on trips.

She loves taking long walks and photographing beautiful animals!

She can write little notes for the ghosts she sees to read.

Aniki

He really wants to take horseback riding lessons with his sister.

He lets his sister stick bows and clips into his hair- and one time even a whole bonnet!

He’s a massive fan of rock music and knows how to play the guitar.

Jennu

She makes her own costumes in her big sis’ honor.

She trades little trinkets with Nyoro as well as designs!

Her favorite musical is Hairspray.

Yuki

Soft pillows and fluffy pajamas are two of her favorite things in the world.

A good book is one of her favorite interests.

She loves tobogganing in the snow, as well as snowball fights! She loves it especially when the gang has them in the park.

It's interesting to look back at Kodaka's work and some people immediately assume that "siblings" = incest = he supports incest and everyone should incest or something like that, they don't even care what the plot is

Toko teases Komaru for being a brocon and Komaru objects to it repeatedly, because this is a gag often seen in manga (Komaru likes manga). Even in Komaru's memories, Makoto and her behaved completely normally.

The main characters in dr1, dr2, drv3 (except for a few people I will talk about next) all have backstories that mention their family, but do they express it in an "I want to fuck my family" way? No, absolutely not.

Rantaro talked about his sisters, but he treated his sisters like an older brother. The same thing happened in the love hotel event (note: love hotel was not written by Kodaka, he only supervised), he just wanted to continue to protect his brother (Shuichi).

Oh, Tsumugi, her love hotel event is completely similar to those comedy light novels, It's love with a "brother" who doesn't share the same bloodline with her after her father (mother) remarried, and because they feel so staged, I think it's all her weird fangirl's fantasy. In addition, that "brother" only appears in the love hotel event and does not appear in any other mention in the main storyline (including free time events).

Same thing with the monokubs (if we don't count the fact that they are robots so they don't have any blood relationship), the scene between Monophanie and Monotaro is also how some old tragic soap opera was shown on TV.

If we have to talk about incest storyline, it might be about Junko/Mukuro and Korekiyo/his sister. I'm not good at analyzing them, so I can only say a little. Kodaka doesn't write much about them as lovers, and none of them had a good ending when Junko killed Mukuro to feel the feeling of despair and started the killing game. Mukuro, compared to love, I think it's a mixture of obedience and worship and a deformed way of expressing love (through the feeling of killing or being killed).

With Korekiyo, his fans out there have been talking a lot about his toxic relationship with his sister. (in my mind) Between these two is the destruction of personalities and almost merging into one to keep the other "alive". This is not pure love, regardless of whether there is sex or affectionate gestures, underneath that shared body is still a pile of rotten wishes of existence masquerading as love. Korekiyo is mentally deformed to become an empty shell for his "illusioned sister".

Anyone who looks at it can see that their outcome is not happiness together, being supported by everyone and shining brightly.

Other works with siblings are only Akudama Drive, Tribe Nine and World's End Club. Although WEC has Kodaka, the main writer is still Uchikoshi, and the relationship between Vanilla and Aniki is completely normal (the game has no line about them falling in love). The brothers in T9 are so npc that many people don't even know their names lmao, but yeah they aren't in love with each other.

Brother and Sister in Akudama Drive? well, the whole anime doesn't promote them romantically loving each other, but rather them wanting to survive and live normally. There are no excessive fanservice scenes between them.

Ngl the tweet “Sister and Brother in the main cast of a Kodaka game” killed my interest in this game. We probably didn’t get the whole context, but if it’s gonna throw in a single piece dialogue that would imply….that. Why should I expect much better from the general writing?

Call me crazy, but I think people maaaaaayyyyy be throwing in the towel way too soon. We don't know jack about the characters right now, as far as only knowing two or three names outta the whole cast, so how're we to say with certainty that the two characters mentioned are even siblings? Context is everything, and we have none, so we gotta hold our horses or else we're gonna fall off and get trampled.

I also think this whole too-soon debacle is just plain ol' bad faith. Let's not forget that Kodaka isn't the only writer for this game, as this was also a team effort with Uchikoshi (for transparency, I've only played AI: Somnium Files, so I'm not aware of Uchikoshi's writing practices as much as I am of Kodaka's). If we wanna focus solely on Kodaka's involvement with his writing for this game, I know everyone's getting war flashbacks of the Monokubs from V3, and I do think that part is deserving of all the heavy criticism it gets cause it was done so poorly. However, let's also not forget about Korekiyo's whole deal as well, and in my opinion, I don't think it was handled poorly. There are of course ways the reveal of Korekiyo's relationship with his sister could've been delivered better (such as not hiding his sister's abuse behind his FTEs), but overall I think it respects the topic of incest.

AND THIS IS ALL JUST ASSUMING THAT THOSE TWO CHARACTERS IN LAST DEFENSE ACADEMY ARE SIBLINGS WHEN THEY VERY WELL COULD NOT BE!

Regardless, I am a firm believer that dark topics of all kinds can and should be told in stories, as long as it's done respectfully and not romanticizing/glorifying it. All that matters to me is if a heavy story is told well. So IF those two characters really are siblings and really are in a romantic relationship (and somehow saying 'dear brother' is supposed to be an indication of this???), I am okay with that as long as it's done tastefully. Including such a relationship in any media will obviously turn some people away from it, but that's all a part of consuming media. People will scout out what appeals to them and will avoid things that don't. If a story isn't written for you in mind, then don't let that get you down. There are plenty of similar medias that don't include things you dislike and may give you the same enjoyment. Ya just have to look!
