What are the webtoons that you like? Like specifically on the app (if it doesn't bother you)

Honestly, a lot of the comics I read these days are outside of the WT Originals section (especially now that I don't even use the app anymore, most of my reading is desktop) but here are some of the comics I'm keeping up on that are either Originals or Canvas series:

City of Blank

Midnight Poppy Land (tho tbh I'm p much dropping this one, the plot is a mess)

The Kiss Bet (also phasing this one out, it's got that S3 creep like LO has where the plot just isn't going anywhere)

That said, a LOT of these I've regrettably fallen behind on in the absence of free time (as I mentioned in a previous post, once you start drawing webcomics, you have a lot less time to read them) and not using the app anymore. Most of the comics I read aren't even exclusively on the WT platform, I'm a bit old school and love reading comics that run on their own sites or smaller platforms like ComicFury. I just find that most of the stories WT tries to sell in their Originals section are a specific "vibe" that I'm just not really looking for. The romances are often just the same recycled tropes done really poorly (esp when it comes to love triangles, bleh) and the plots in many of the long-form series (even the successful ones like Tower of God) are often really dragged out and you can tell the creators are artists first, writers second (though there are definitely Originals series that you can tell care about their writing and pull off their long-form stories well, such as City of Blank and Time and Time Again; Kiss Bet and MPL are basically the only ones in this list that I'm genuinely letting go of due to a poor plot, everything else on this list I'm keeping up with because they're great!)

So yeah, if you haven't read any of those above series, go check them out! Even when it comes to the Canvas section, I feel like people often forget there's an entire free to read section loaded up with content that's free of paywalls and DailyPass limitations. Yes, it's very over-saturated with works that vary in quality, but so is the Originals section at this point so there's no reason not to also check out the Canvas section, there are a lot of gems in there being made by a ton of cool people ;)

Stories and age appropriateness

Recently Webtoons decided that all comics on there have to be age-rated by creators. Age-rating comics is tricky business, mostly because there's no room for context.

Triforce of Power wound up being Young Adult (16 and up), and what bumped it up were the violence and the alcohol. In fairness, I might have over-reported the violence -- buuuut there is going to be more blood before the story is over. So I didn't want them coming after me for under-reporting it.

But the alcohol issues were unavoidable.

It doesn't matter that getting drunk is portrayed as negative, it doesn't matter that it's kind of accidental the first time it happens and entirely accidental in the second case... I can't really convey that context in the parameters that they've given me to rate my comic. The alcohol is there, it's visible, and it's consumed. So screw context, that makes it evil! (Would it be considered mild consumption since it isn't a large focus/not present in many panels? Or would it be considered moderate to excessive since people are technically getting drunk? Who knows!)

Stories are weird. Discussion of age appropriateness is weird. Not bad weird, just tricky. And I don't think a ratings system is inherently a bad idea! But the execution... could be better.

Anybody else gonna stop using the WEBTOON app as soon as their favorite series are completed?

Cuz like.... there's too much stuff coming out and I can't find anything I like. they want me to buy coins and wait for episodes that already exist and watch ads but it all used to be free and I used to be able to binge my favorites, but I don't wanna be wringed for every penny I'm worth....like......

Okay don't get me wrong here I ADORE when creators give their characters accents. It's a fun way to distinguish their speech from others, can hint at world building and backstories, and it's just fun too!

But I cannot take this child seriously here I am in tears
