Svelte Basics: First Component

I'm going through the Svelte tutorial since it's very comprehensive and up-to-date.

I'm going on a bit of a tangent before I start this post, but I'm straying away from YouTube videos and Udemy courses when learning new programming languages and frameworks. YouTube videos are too fragmented to get good information from. Courses (and YouTube videos) are usually not up-to-date, rendering parts of them useless. Not to mention that you have to pay for free information that's packaged in a course, which is kind of scummy.

Anyway, I've gotten quite a bit further than just the introduction section of Svelte basics, but I don't want to overload myself (or readers) with information.

My First Svelte Component:

This section was relatively straightforward. There wasn't much new information, but I was hooked because of its simplicity. I personally love the idea of having the script tags be a place to define variables and attributes:

<p>I'm {var}</p>

The example above shows how dynamic attributes are used. I can basically define any variable (and states, but that'll be for the next post) between the script tags that can be used in HTML.

This may seem mundane to programmers experienced in Svelte, but I think it gives really good insight into the philosophy behind Svelte. It's clear that they wanted to keep the language simple and easy to use, and I appreciate that.

As I mentioned in my introductory post, I have a background in React, which has a reputation for being convoluted. Well, maybe that's just my perception, but how Svelte is written is a breath of fresh air!

The plan: Introductory Post

Hello everyone!

I'm mostly writing this post to pin it to my blog page for those who visit.

The heart of this blog is tracking a website I will build from the ground up. This includes the front-end, back-end, UX/UI design, and any other planning/work that pops up.

For some context, around a year ago, I started practicing web development to make it my career. However, things turned out differently than expected. I got another job after having horrendous luck finding work. I really enjoy it, so it snuffed out my drive to find a career in web development.

However, I've always liked web development and programming in general. I've always wanted to use it, but I just didn't have any ideas I wanted to commit to. Now, I have a site that I feel I can turn into a full-fledged application, and I'd like to track it here for those interested and connect with others interested.

I've been on a six-month hiatus, so I'm pretty rusty, but I've decided I want to build the site using Svelte and Supabase. Svelte has always been the framework I wanted to learn, so this website is the perfect excuse. I also have experience with Firebase, but I wanted to challenge myself by learning Supabase. Most of my experience is with React and Next.js. I've used them for volunteer work and for freelancing gigs in the past.

I'll also give a brief summary of my website for common understanding. The MVP will start as a blog, but I plan to expand it to turn it into an informative database (sort of like Wikipedia) and have some interactive elements. I won't get into the meat of the idea, but that's what to expect with my posts. But before that, my posts will mostly be centered around a summary of my learning. Since I'm learning Svelte, my current posts will be based on that.

Life check / update

It’s been a long time since i last posted and I wanted to take sometime off to really practice and learn Javascript as it’s been my main objective to dissect and understand the concepts because genuinely I can always google the syntax 😂 I’ve been going back and forth, writing codes, building little programs and doing nothing much. Today I feel confident to say that I’ve arrived and finished with FUNCTIONS in Javascript. I have an entire book that is filled with scribbles of thoughts and explanations of the concepts that I’ll be super glad to read when I’m bored 😮‍💨. I’m still trying to get out of my head and start building real projects. I have 0 project ideas(I saw @xiabablog’s project ideas and I’m so jealous hahaha) but yeah. I’m too scared to start a project and realize that all I’ve been studying isn’t in my brain but once I get over that feeling maybe I’ll brainstorm some ideas 😪. Anyway, there’s only one thing I want to tell anyone who’s going to read this is
