A lot of these aren't bad communication though. Yes, part of it is because they're teens, and part is because if they figured these out quickly and healthily there wouldn't really be an interesting or substantial plot, but theres a little more to their problems that Brennan made sure to complicate so they couldn't figure it out that fast SO THERE COULD BE A PLOT.

Declaring Riz and Adaine as nemeses would still give his other declared nemeses enough funding to royally fuck up his life, and it would be a huge mess of trying to get his money back. That, and constantly flitting between the Hells and the Material Plane is time consuming and not interesting to watch.

We already kind of addressed the bad luck curse and its complications, pacts can't just be unmade. I guarantee lifting the curse will be so much more complicated than tearing up a single contract or telling a suit of armor to take back whatever deal this is.

Fabian doesnt even fully register that he's lonely. If he does, he's barely able to admit it to himself and he sure as hell can't tell his only friends that they arent enough for him to not be lonely. He's not only being a teenager about it, he's Fabian Aramais Seacaster. Seacasters don't regularly admit defeat or loneliness or faults. Plus, he thinks he's found the solution in being the party house.

Fig is already aware of Kristen's problems, and they're all already trying to help. Promoting a religion on social media isn't the route they're taking to solve that issue, but that isn't a lack of communication on the Bad Kids' end. They watched Cassandra die, they know Kristen can't cast right now, they're doing what they can but it's the death of a god, thats not a one week fix. Plus, if it was follower based, Cassandra would be alive bc Kristen still believes in her.

I think Riz's struggles are the only one that have a strictly communication-based solution, and even then not really. The party KNOWS Riz is trying to get them to graduate together, they just don't understand the pressure he's under, but that's because he can barely admit it to himself.

Fig has been very clear on her struggles with her album, and the group has straight up just had too many other, more immediate issues to tackle to help her there. That problem has been communicated, it's just not being prioritized, and rightfully so with everything else going on.

Everyone knows about Gorgugs MCAT struggles, they know the cause, and are working to help. Fog has even taken up bard classes to help. Idk how Aelwyn would even get dirt on Porter or how blackmailing him is even in anyone's wheelhouse unless that's their main focus, but once again not an issue of communication. The Bad Kids know what Gorgug is going through, his artificing struggles have been very loud and he's a pretty straightforward guy.

Aelwyn also knows about Adaine's component sturggles? Adaine straight up already called her and asked for help? Her only advice was to just get a job, so Adaine tried, but the reason that problem isn't fixed isn't a failed communication by Adaine or Aelwyn, it's just a lack of resources.

The Bad Kids know each other better than anyone, and yeah maybe they need to get a little deeper into Riz's issues, but they've very rarely had trouble communicating with each other. There's not really much in-fighting or disagreements or problems that can go away if it's just talked out. That, and a lot of these can't be fixed that quickly bc there needs to be a plot.

Btw, this is all in good fun, op your post is lovely and I mean this in the most friendly way possible, I saw an opportunity to dissect the party's problems this season and took it, your interpretation/analysis was so fun to delve into.

The bad kids are an incredibly healthy and supportive friend group BUT OH MY GOD THEY SUCK AT COMMUNICATING!

Half of their problems would be solved if they talked to each other.

Fabian would GLADLY pay for Adaine's components and for Riz's tuition if they asked. He would even get his papa to change his trust fund conditions to include them. Or he would declare Riz and Adaine his nemesis.

They would figure out the reason for Fig's misfortune in a week max. They would march into hell, probably accompanied by both Gorthalax and Sandra Lynn, and demand to break whatever deal she made with whichever demon involved.

If Fabian even suggested he was lonely, the bad kids would organise sleepovers every night. He would circle between the Thistlesprings, the Gukgaks and the Mordred Manor. Lydia would pack him his own lunch.

Fig would immediately start promoting Cassandra's religion on all social media, and get her to thousand followers in a week. The rest of the bad kids would join without hesitation.

If Riz would finally admit the HUGE stress he is under, everyone, even Fig, would stop piling all the work on him and happily write their 10 page essays. They would convince him to see Jawbone, and enjoy his last years in high school. They would band together to find the rogue teacher within a day. They would make sure that Riz's resume is the most impressive CV that the universities have ever received.

They would all gather together to come up with music for Fig and Gorgug's new album. Fabian would choreograph their music videos, Adaine would come up with rhymes, Riz would bring a list of all their adventures, including motifs and connections made, to give her inspiration, Kristen would suggest to make parodies of classic camp songs from her old church.

Adaine would contact Aelwyn immediately to get dirt on Porter, to blackmail him. Gorgug would get permission for his MCAT exams by the end of the week.

And if she would stay on the phone a little longer and admitted how much she is struggling, Aelwyn would immediately return home along with her cats. Then she would drag her sister to Jawbone's door, and force her to give him the components list.

The problem is that even after all those years, after all those adventures, even after the forest of the nightmare king, they still each think of themselves as the weak link. As the person in the group that isn't allowed, doesnt deserve to take space, ask for help. Because they should be able to handle it on their own. Isn't that what adulthood is like?

They would abandon anything and everything to help someone else, as long as that person isn't themselves. As long as they dont have to show their amazing, incredible, powerful, and oh so compassionate friends how weak and imperfect they are in comparison.

It was actually so deeply stupid of them to delete the Klaus AA scene because not only was it the best written scene of a very poorly written season but it would've completed the closest thing we had to an arc this season, rather than it being just another one of the miscellaneous side quests of this season

Part of being Canadian is how similar we are to the US, and honestly not a single person on earth I think could genuinely pin point the difference between Canadian and American culture but the average Canadian. Hi all, I just want to make a note here, since there's been a pretty big response to these cut scenes on Twitter and some of it's been negative about how season 2 was 'bad' in comparison to what we 'could have gotten.'

Scenes always have to be cut for time, no matter what show or film is being made. We rarely if ever get the writer/director/creator's vision direct from paper to screen. And it's not always a bad thing either - trimming things down can help the flow of the story. It sucks that many scenes featuring favorite background characters & relationships didn't make the cut for season 2, but choosing what stayed in and what didn't was certainly a collaborative and difficult process to prioritize the story they wanted to tell here. We can be mad at HBO Max for slashing their budget and reducing their episode runtimes, and we should demand more for season 3. But let's not look back on season 2 and criticize what was included - they obviously put in as much as they possibly could, going so far as to squeeze in post-credit scenes that gave the Revenge crew more screentime.

While it would have been nice to have more of Jim & Olu, and more of the polycule made explicit, it sounds like most of the scenes that were cut were connective and 'filler' - things that were bits of background lore or fun times between the Crew. We definitely deserve these in a rom-com! But, we did not lose a bunch of scenes that had a big impact on Ed and Stede's relationship, which is the major plot of the show. And when it comes to the original Calypso's Birthday idea, Samba was talking about an early draft of the episode that went through many subsequent changes - he said multiple times he was glad for those changes and liked the final version of the episode better, as well as the progression of Ed and Stede's relationship that came from those changes. That original concept never made it even close to screen, so it's not like there's hidden scenes that were cut from that.

We can't dwell on what could have or ~should have~ been for season 2. There's already been so much negativity, and we don't need more. Let's be grateful for just how much they were able to fit in given the limited time and budget they were handed - they grappled with so much, and gave all the crew members a lot of screentime and development! They made the episodes feel longer than they were. We should treat the BTS Samba and others give us as treats, nice extras, not something we were owed or robbed of. Ultimately the final product is the final product - those little bts tidbits to me are great because they help fill in some gaps and connect the dots, but they were cut because they weren't deemed vital, and that's their executive decision to make.

Instead of complaining about season 2, which does nothing productive and only reflects badly upon our chances for renewal and dismisses the hard work of everyone involved in making the show - who are proud of what they've made - demand better from HBO Max. Pester them for a season 3 with longer episodes, more episodes, and a bigger budget. Hell, demand a physical release, where we could get bloopers and deleted scenes.

Let's thank Samba and other cast/crew for sharing their bts stories, and work really hard to get the show renewed so maybe we can see some of these scenes and ideas recycled or reworked for season 3!

Samba talked about a lot of cut scenes from ofmd s2 during his baking class today!!

First and foremost, the original concept for Calypso's birthday was for it to be Lucius and Pete's wedding crashed by Ned Low. Roach and Wee John were going to play matchmaker to get Ed and Stede to hook up because there was too much sexual tension on the ship. Ed and Stede WERE going to dance. Roach is a huge Ned Low fan and there's a cut scene where he says this to Ned and in return Ned gives him a little extra torture as a reward. Con was originally going to sing 'At Last' by Etta James

The thumb war was improvised, as well as Con's 'rude' in ep5, and the sandwich throw that hit Lucius was planned between Samba, Rhys, and Taika but no one else knew so that's why you can see Nate laughing in the background

There was a cut scene (or multiple) where Buttons kept trying to go feral and escape to the sea in ep1, this is why he has a rope tied around his waist

There was also a scene in ep 1 where they are first looking at their money jar and everyone pitches in what they were able to scrounge up or steal, and they imagine what their 'dream ship' would be like - Pete dreams of a ship where Lucius is alive, Roach dreams of a ship with a big kitchen

There was a cut scene that confirmed the polycule, with Olu, Archie, and Jim all coming out of the bedroom together wearing just boxers

The post-credit scene with Roach and Fang was going to be longer, and end with them drinking wine at Spanish Jackie's prior to the bar fight

Overall, a lot of Jim & Olu scenes were cut, and Ed & Stede material from ep 6 was shifted around and put in eps 7/8.

okay so very long thinkpiece about meljay and jayce' treatment of mel / the writers treatment of mel and how i think that all things considered she hasnt really won as much as we think she did

the thing about this that makes me so mad or rather sad (both, actually) is that we learn in season 1 how mel was brought up, that she didn't get to be soft and kind, that her surroundings were hard and rough just like her mother was, that love isn't a thing she knows like that especially not in relation to vulnerability. now if you think about media in general there is a pattern we know. the black woman is always the strong woman, the independent woman, the woman who doesnt get to be vulnerable bc of the first two points. so here comes this man she's trying to use not just for her own endeavors but for the good of piltover, clearly having a different mindset than her mother, and he cracks her open just like that. he's vulnerable with her and he lets her be vulnerable with him and it allows this woman this kind of vulnerability that she was never allowed to feel. she feels and she loves and there is someone who holds her and looks out for her when things go bad. he is his first thought after the bombing and hes so loving and endearing unlike her mother who is concerned, of course, but straight back to business too. and oh what a lovely thing that was to watch as a black woman who to this day still doesn't get to see this as often as we really should

so mel gets to experience something she hasnt before and you can tell it means something to her because when she gets back in act 3 the first reaction to him is an excited, hopeful one.

this is the man she cares deeply for and it is also the man who shes comforted before many times. something she needs in those very confusing times too. something she might be looking out for. something she might hope to get herself. some comforting after what shes been through for months. someone to share what is going on with her and how confusing it is to find out all those lies and secrets about herself.

until she notices how changed he is, how different he looks, so instantly she is worried. of course! who wouldnt be! she very likely didnt even know he was missing since its the first time we see her back in the city so she must've assumed he has been here and well for the whole time being (does she even know how long its been?) but it isnt fine as we know. she puts herself second! immediately! (and rewatching that scene now it actually makes me mad how she does that. and how anyone can question any of her feelings for him when shes immediately all jayce. or how in general people think shes only interested in her own goals) she asks this man who has shown her to be vulnerable around him and it BEING FINE, what happened, shes opening herself up to him, again, over and over, and he not only tells her it doesnt matter (what happened to him) but TURNS HIS BACK ON HER. he is literally shutting her off. he is saying with his body she does not get to do that. and for someone who has grown up like this, with a mother cutting off any kind of displays of weakness, this must be a familiar feeling, something that goes off like a bell

but she still tries! she still tries! she sees something is wrong but she tries to get comfort anyway, because this is jayce, right, this is the man she cares for deeply, the man who has opened this door for her and the door she's let herself through, the man who has always had compassion for her. of course she tries again. why wouldn't she? so she starts that something has happened to her but he doesn't even let her tell him what happened (actually it makes me so mad seeing this again and how crazy hostile he is towards her, its like im looking at the mel hating part of arcanetwt and him repeating beat for beat what theyve been saying for years) he doesnt give her room to speak, just takes it for himself, prioritizing himself and his own feelings. and, yes, figuring out the bombing thing and wanting to talk about it is valid and i think in general this could've been a great angsty way to deal with this topic IF they would've had the opportunity to talk this out properly but what happens instead is that the man that makes mel feel safe starts INTERROGATING her like she is a criminal that should be held for trial FOR SAVING HIM something she doesnt even undestand herself. and suddenly she is in a whole different position and i think by now she knows that this kind of compassion and understanding and room for vulnerability isn't part of their conversation anymore

she loses her composure and that of course isnt a first because she has started to be less put together around him, allowing her more room to "sway" but this kind of destruction is a different one because she feels at trial, feels cornered, feels like she has to explain herself but - and thats what is important - isnt heard. and i think that is something she knows very well, something shes grown up with, trying to explain herself and not being heard.

all of that happens while he is, mind you, still holding onto that hammer. something she surely notices too. the man who's usually quick to let down his defences around her, who isnt councilor talis or mister talis but just jayce around her, is holding onto that hammer like shes a threat. so he tells her he thinks shes lying and she asks him why he would think she'd do that, obviously, because her understanding of their relationship and their trust is a different one than his or at least this jayce that has come back from the arcane, because clearly this kind of understanding comes from somewhere and it comes from the times they've spent together alone throughout season 1 and a little in the beginning of season 2.

he throws at her that shes been using him, something that surprises her, because clearly she doesnt know what has happened, but she tries to explain anyway, because she doesnt know what has happened at least not in full (as you can tell by her reaction to viktor appearing, sensing the hostile mood between both, but also the way she reacts when viktor mentions the noxians intentions), and you can see that these thoughts of his are a result of months in the arcane alone with them and imagining conversations over conversations (although for me its still hard to understand how he grew that hostile towards her this quickly as if she were responsible for everything that happened but those are thoughts for a different post). he crashes out during that conversation, his face is warped with hatred and that is. all. for. her. to. see. and then BOOM goes the hammer off. mid conversation. a conversation that should feel safe with a man she should feel safe with but none of that is there. there is no space for her. (and yes i know hes aiming at viktors puppet but that isnt somethng mel is aware in that moment)

it all leads up to a fight and eventually they walk together and he apologizes, although very distantly and without much explanation, and despite it all, despite having good reasons to shut off and not share what she's feeling, she does. she talks to him about what is on her mind and they have a short, bittersweet exchange but it's just nowhere to what they've established in the first season. as a shipper of course that is super frustrating, but as a mel fan it's just sad to see that the person she felt safe enough to seek comfort in is just so closed off. but not only that, it's obvious they're parting ways and it's very obvious this is coming from his side and i think that is also why she so wilingly accepts it. she doesn't fight much back throughout their whole fight earlier either, she tries to explain herself, but doesnt demand that room for herself even though in this relationship she should be able to take just as much room for herself and her feelings as he does, but she doesn't. she just lets it happen and i understand it bc you have this man you trust and probably love and his first reaction to you is hostile when hostile has never been a response to her. he made a complete u-turn and of course that's off putting, maybe even scary, of course it shuts her down, makes someone who's so good with words and fighting just try to cause as little damage as possible because that is how she's grown up, isn't it?

and that is why i am sad about this. she learned that love doesnt have to look like her mothers and that being vulnerable isnt a weakness and its his doing but here she is met by this kind of hostility she only knows from noxus and it hurts even more that it COMES FROM HIM and over something as SAVING HIS LIFE when its clearly was an act out of love and not investment bc if i'd would've been just that than she would've saved viktor as well? but it wasnt about that. it was her subconscious making a decision and it was something her mother would describe as an act of weakness (theres a reason she gets renni to attack him bc she sees how fond mel of him is maybe even because shes been fond of a man herself once and she knows what itll do) and i think the worst part about it is that she doesnt ever get to truly articulate this or anything else and now that jayce is gone (dead? in a stone? who knows?) she won't get to ever probably. she won't get to say what she thinks and explain herself truly and she won't have anyone to confide in, to be comforted by or comfort. elora is dead, kino wasn't real and the real one is actually dead too, jayce is well whatever he is, and her mother died in her arms. yes, mel is a mage and that is fucking awesome and i was so happy to see her go off and get so many spotlights in battle, but shes also so fucking tragic actually. because here she is with a fuck ton of weight on her shoulders, the noxian army looking up to her, the whole name, not knowing who her father is or what any of her powers mean, the whole black rose thing, everything unresolved between her and jayce, the death of the people she loves, and shes all alone with it. shes all alone with it and she gets no one. man im just fucking sad that this woman got a glimpse of what it could be like to be loved and have someone to "come home to" just for her to have literally no one left like why do you hate black women so much why cant they get a fucking good ending and why cant they be fucking loved even when things get hard

also im lowkey mad that jayce got to find comfort in her lap so many times and not once did she get that in return, not even a squeeze of her shoulder, but dont let me get started on that....

why, pray tell WHY must these fucking writers not commit to the best ships ever. the makers of arcane clearly have no qualms about portraying gay people in an unrestricted manner, so WHY didnt they commit to jayvik. im genuinely so puzzled at this point.

its one thing when you have a ship like destiel that was accidentally written into homosexuality by a homophobic network, i at least understand how that ship came to be and why it never went fully canon. but JAYVIK??? for a ship with so much fucking evidence and chemistry and content to work with, made by clearly progressive writers, i have no goddamn idea why they wouldnt just make it CANON at this point. i have confidence that the writers could have made a well written love triangle between mel and jayce and viktor, truly. i am by no means a mel hater, love that queen, but him and viktor just have so much more fucking chemistry.

as we know at this point, the animators did a great job making all the characters super expressive and detailed. that being said, there are some scenes that i cannot imagine were made while thinking viktor and jayce had completely platonic feelings for each other.

i cant find the gif rn, but that moment in episode 3 of season 1 when mel finds them trying to break into heimerdingers lab and after she walks away jayce looks all happy and viktor looks at him and back at mel and then looks like he wants to OFF HIMSELF?? idk man personally thats not how i would look if someone had just very kindly covered for me doing illegal shit. that was gay and there was no other reason for him to do that. so WHYYYYYY animate it like that in the first place?
