So yeah, how to train your dragon is a big deal to me. I'm not going to watch the live action movie grrghhhhg
Here’s some design stuff? Headcanons?
I my head toothless is literally just that weird anchovie as a dragon. He buzzes around like a bug, and his species intentionally mimics common or gardens as a part of their life cycle on land. The only things that mark him out from the bazillion actual common garden subspecies are the blue wings and webbed feet. He looks all big headed and has no teeth because relative to that 1000 year life span, he’s just a fish fry.
Speaking of common or garden browns, I think it’d be funny if Horrorcow actually *was* herbivorous or mostly-herbivorous because that’s just what subspecies she was and the humans just can’t tell the difference because ’it’s a dragon it must eat meat duh’ and they lump all them together. Honestly it’s prolly for the best she peaces out to the caves for a bit, girl is not built for being in that close proximity to a Main Character.
Fireworm is just a bully, Rottweiler sized and classically dragonish. I tried not to think about making them all super realistic or thinking about how all their species could be related because the books don’t really do that super in depth and that’s part of the fun, so she just looks like a dragon (tm) even though the term dragon also covers things that have fur, or feathers, or produce milk, and look vastly different, Her claws are retractable and her leg spurs help fight off other monstrous nightmares. It’s so funny to me that she just immediately defects to the rebellion, it’s so in character even though she seems to have at least sorta vibed with snot.
I really liked drawing Stormfly as a kid, and the fact that she’s dragon meowth/ can just speak Norse because she can is also fun. She’s not feathery, those are like. Skin flaps or something that can move and change color. Very squirmy.
Windwalker is also one of my faves, I’m sad we didn’t get to see the metamorphosis but the mystery of it is also fun. It was also nice to see him start talking again after meeting hiccup. His ability to out-altitude other dragons is his species’ general hunting strategy and eventually his wings will straighten out (but his are in particularly bad shape because of his time working in the enclosed tunnels of the mines.) (Btw it's still crazy to me that dragon and human slavery is just a thing in the books and we just have to deal with it)
Wodensfang is that classic shriveled Old Man. I think that over time, they molt off their size (through literally freezing up, shrinking a little in a shell of their skin, melting bones and muscle and then coming out smaller, like the reverse of shedding skin to get bigger. Just don't think about it too hard, magic is basically canon here ) over time and leave the ocean to leave more room for the whippersnappers who are just coming in from the land. He’s missing most of his teeth, but the envenomed fangs still work.
I also have the book of dragons, it’d be fun to one day go through and draw all of them (I’ve already done that but those were on notebook paper and lost to time)
#annual singular post unrelated to the wreckhounds brainrot#stormfly and windwalker are my favorites to draw obviously#as you can see im not immune to the hookfang color scheme bias when it comes to monstrous nightmares but fireworm was red in the books too#how to train your dragon#httyd#httyd books#drawing

I think we can all agree that HTTYD 3 is the most divisive movie in the franchise.
So I'm curious to know your personal opinions on it!
I personally have a love hate relationship with it. There's a lot of things I love while there's a LOT of things I hate.
I love a lot of it. But I'll go ahead and state the problems I had because they are easier to describe compared to the things I loved about it.
-Some aspects involving The Light Fury. She was a plot device more than she was a character and the "behind the scenes" creaton of her was problematic imo. Although it's slightly grown on me, her design is weird and I really want to redesign her lol.
-Some things involving Toothless. I LOVE Toothless, but I have a lot of problems with how he was handled in this movie. For one, he's TOO OVERPOWERED! like really? Not only can he control all dragons, but you gave the ONE ability that made the Light Fury unique and gave it to Toothless 🤦♀️. Although it's a result of the ending of movie 2, I don't like the idea of Toothless being able to control dragons, but this is a personal gripe that I explained in detail before and isn't a fault of the writing in movie 3. This is a nitpick but I don't like how they got rid of Toothless' subtle patterns that have appeared in all instalments (including series) except this movie. This is also a nitpick but I also found it weird that they made Toothless act so much like a dog in this movie when he almost always acted more like a cat in every instalment. Also, his want to leave Hiccup was way to sudden and is not in his character... I could explain a lot more but idc exactly how to put it to words and this post would go on forever lol.
-Kinda a nitpick but I don't like how Astrid was reduced to just moral support. I wish we had more moments of her being badass. Because one thing I always LOVED about Astrid was that she's independent and strong but also allowed to act feminine. As a woman myself, all women are different- Women can act feminine, women can act masculine, and seeing a strong independent woman character that can act masculine but also act feminine is something you rarely really see in mainstream media imo.
-The side characters where done SO DANG DIRTY in this movie... ESPECIALLY if you watched Riders/Defenders of Berk + Race to the Edge. The characters I feel got ruined the most though, where Snotlout and Ruffnut. WHAT HAPPENED TO SNOTLOUT BEING COCKY BUT ALSO HAVING A HEART OF GOLD!? WHAT HAPPENED TO RUFFNUT BEING PURPOSELY STUPID TO CONFUSE HER ENEMIES? WHAT DID THEY DO HHH???
-Grimmel was just a half baked Viggo from Race to the Edge. Nobody can change my mind.
-BIGGEST COMPLAINT. Like EVERY installment, both movie, short film, comic, and series, where built on exploration and discovery. In every part of the franchise, we saw new species and worlds. So when the marketing for HTTYD 3 came out... Naturally I assumed we where going to spend a lot of time IN THE HIDDEN WORLD (in my mind as just Toothless and the Light Fury as they bonded). But no. IT HAS SO LITTLE SCREENTIME spent ACTUALLY IN there! Even VANAHEIM was eventually explored in-depth... HHH Just kinda felt like a let-down to me, you know?
Things I personally loved.
-Toothless has his own motivations and goals completely separate from Hiccup in this movie. I really love this as it separates them as individuals more than it has been done before. Only problem is that I feel they didn't handle it as good as I wish they did.
-The very end of this movie was so beautifully bitter sweet with Hiccup and Astrid and their kids!
-Goes without saying that the animation was phenomenal! And although the soundtrack is not as memorable as the first 2, it's still EXTREMELY good!
-Adored the fact we got to see Fireworm Dragons for a few shots! Always love when a movie sneaks in series content.
-Hiccup and Astrid's relationship is still so wholesome to watch and amazing to see!
-The Stoick flashbacks where great!
-I will not lie, I am blinded by my love of HTTYD to completely disown this movie LOL.

Jotting down for design purposes but ANYWAYS. Old man Krogan.
His design is changing. Giving him longer hair because it fits him. Mainline we are reintroduced to him by Hiccup and Astrid’s (completely naive) 15 year old daughter who just thinks the old man with the pretty silver hair and the tabby stripes (and a little bit pf an attitude, to be honest.) is just very lonely. But he doesn’t mind her presence, actually. He might be mostly blind but he is very strong and turns out to be one of her few closest mentors when it comes learning archery and practicing things her parents would never teach her.
Zephyr wonders how Krogan has such a sure shot, how he is able to pick out weak spots in an animals hide or body, even though he is blind, and he reminds her that while hunting she needs to rely on her other senses rather than just sight. You will hear a potential predator coming far quicker than you will see it, after all.
Anyways, something something Krogan becomes the Haddock family’s weird uncle/grandpa who just so happens to live in the woods and has an odd obsession with fireworms and flightmare algae.

Hi I'm back in the eleventh hour to drop more cool worms!!
Dorvilleids, the cutie patooties of the marine annelid world! Look at those little eyes! The bunny ears!
Some miscellaneous beautiful worms - a Nereid, possibly another Nereid(?), and an Amphinomid (fireworm)!
Cnidaria fans will say "But annelids can't build reefs! Checkmate, worm lovers" and to that I say - BEHOLD!
The HONEYCOMB WORM! (As the name implies, don't google close-ups of this reef if you have trypophobia) These reefs can actually be intertidal, unlike coral reefs! This means they can support a whole different diversity of life!
These are one of the most prolific reef-building polychaetes, but they're not the only ones!
MASSIVE colonies of Serpulid worms make up these unearthly reefs in Antarctica!
And they've been around for a while...
On the left are fragments of ancient reefs built by Cirratulid worms in the Miocene era - as far back as 23 million years ago! And on the right is a huge fossilized reef built by chemosynthetic Serpulid worms off of the California coast over 20 thousand years ago! As long as there have ever been coral reefs, there have also been the worm reefs <3
As a bonus, here's some insight into some of my personal PhD research with marine annelid worms!
Part of my research involves these "ant farms" (pictured above), which I layer with UV-reactive "luminophore" mud particles to track the movement of worms within the mud. We record the worms' activities and take daily measurements of how the luminophores are moved as they burrow. A lot of the wiggliness you see in the glowing layers here is due to just one tiny worm! How cool is that?
These guys are major players in mixing the seafloor sediment, which stimulates the chemical processes our oceans rely on for balance! Once I can get this "ant farm" protocol to consistently produce good results, I'm planning to expand it with sensors to measure all kinds of things like biological oxygen uptake, sediment stability, etc etc etc lol. I'm very excited with how it's going so far!!
In conclusion:
VOTE ANNELIDA!!!!!!
Phylum Round 3
Annelida: Segmented Worms. This group includes earthworms, leeches, and many classes under the umbrella of “polychaete”. This diverse phylum encompasses deposit feeders (eating dirt), detritivores, scavengers, deadly ambush predators, filter feeders, parasites, herbivores, and more. They are broadly defined by their repeating body segments and parapodia, which are nubby appendages used for both movement and breathing. Some have curved jaws for catching prey or scraping detritus off of rocks, while others have wide, elaborate, brightly colored feather-like fans for filter feeding. While able to crawl freely, a majority of marine Annelids spend most of their time in self-built tubes or burrows. Among their many important functions, they play a key role in mixing soil/sediment, breaking down decaying organic matter, and providing a key food source to countless other animals.
Cnidaria: Jellyfish, anemones, corals, box jellies, and hydroids. They have a gelatinous body with radial symmetry, a decentralized nervous system, and tentacles surrounding a simple mouth. The defining feature of this phylum are their cnidocytes, or stinging cells. There are two different body plans of the Cnidaria; an immobile “polyp” attached to a surface, or a free-living “medusa” which can swim or drift in the water column. Many polyp Cnidarians, such as corals, live in colonies. Some corals build reefs which serve as habitat for other animals. Free-living medusa Cnidarians must return to the seafloor in a polyp-like stage as a part of their life cycle.

No because I love the HTTYD shows so much. I know this is no secret, it’s pretty obvious that I love these shows, but I wanna kinda talk about why.
Their group dynamic develops and grows so well over the course of the 8 seasons we see them in. Like, the shows take them from being a loose group of friends (?) who still tend to pick on each other and be genuinely rude to each other to a tightly knit family at the end of Race to the Edge.
It’s so rewarding to see little facts, dragons and characters from Riders/Defenders of Berk playing important roles in Race to the Edge. The original show introduces (properly)
Alvin, the Outcasts, Savage, Outcast Island
Dagur, the Berserkers, Oswald the Agreeable, Heather
Typhoomerangs, thunderdrums, whispering deaths, screaming deaths, the flightmare, the shrill, fireworm and the fireworm queen, scauldrons, changewings, speed stingers, smothering smoke breaths
The idea of monstrous nightmare gel
Hookfang’s wing blast thing
Stormfly’s single spine shot
Johann, Bucket, Mulch, Gustav, Fanghook, Mildew, Bork (return)
Dragon root and the fact that gronckles are immune to it
Gronckle iron
Hand signals, code words/commands, tricks they do on the dragons etc
Everything in that list comes back and/or is expanded on in RTTE, whether they are explicitly showed in either show or not. Even if some of these dragons were encountered in the Bork papers, they hadn’t been encountered by the gang until that point in the movies/shows, and they were expanded on.
That is a pretty significant list, and that’s just off the top of my head. The shows also keep character development and characterization consistent across the course of both (especially for Snotlout), and it leads to a very rewarding viewing experience. Together they expand the world so well, and they take the time to go into individual characters and dragons to make it feel real and lived in and it just asfhgdkdvfsfv;’
Because they have the time, they can afford to shine the spotlight on these little things. And the list up there is just the things that carry over between R/DoB and RTTE, not even all of the new characters, places, dragons, and information that we gain in Race to the Edge.
tldr: I love the httyd shows a normal amount

Do you have any more headcanons for HTTYD dragons in the real world? I absolutely love these :)
-I like to headcanon that there are some dragon species that you would either need a permit to own or are just straight-up illegal. Titan class dragons would most likely be on that list along with endangered breeds.
-Much like the animals here, there would also be protection services to help with these endangered breeds to help save the populations and educate people on them to better understand and appreciate these animals we share our world with.
-Dragon live cams would be super popular. They'd be set up at nests, watering holes, and places that dragons often visit so people can just watch on their computers flocks of nadders on a sunny cliffside as they groom and sun. Underwater cams would catch scauldrens as they hunted and swam and live chats would point out other tidal class dragons that would make appearances. Owners would have cams set up to watch what their gronkles do at home while they're away at work, just to mostly see them sleep on the couch.
-Dragons would offer a lot in terms of jobs. Service dragons would assist many people that need them, provide great protection to people living in harsh neighborhoods, assist with material-making, construction, and clearing. Dragons cafe's would also be a thing with smaller species or baby dragons waiting to be adopted. Want to have a grockle mocha while 5 baby zipplebacks play with their toys around you, trying to charm you into taking them home?
-Zoos would provide a great opportunity for rarer species to be assisted, researched, and shown to the public for people of all ages to see. Always wanted to see a speed stinger in person but they're dangerous wild animals? Your local zoo has a thriving pack that they displace and educate on how their pack hunts and lives. Want to see a fireworm "bee box"? Your local zoo has those too, just remember that the room gets a little warm. Does your child love thunderdrums? Your local aquarium has a petting pool for baby thunderdrums to swim around and you can reach out and pet them from the sides.
These are just a few to build a modern HTTYD AU world. :)

Random thoughts on HTTYD RttE S3 (Ep1-7)
Ep1 - Dagur is a lot of fun honestly, but I'm not sure how far this newfound "good faith" of his goes
Wow, he's a good fighter
I'm kinda afraid of that antidote, ngl
Hiccup, da heck? Why did you throw yourself out of the cavern??
Aww, the little sad look on Dagur's face when Hiccup yelled "I hate you"
Okay, yeah he is a good guy now
Well, more of a wild card really - I have 4 seasons ahead of me, I wouldn't be surprised if Dagur went back to the dark side at some point
The ep ends, and the only thing I know for sure is Astrid's not gonna be happy when those two get back to the Edge
Ep2 - Snotlout's high pitched yell is so funny, but I feel bad for laughing
Hookfang casually screeching at the Fire Worm Queen
Uhm, what history?? How do those two know each other? I wanna knowwwww! Im guessing it's from the first 2 seasons
Hiccup has so much patience for his team, istg - no wonder he's super snappy to his enemies
Okay, this Cavern Crasher looks super cool in all his originality (i mean, green fire, how cool is that??) but he's also a bit disgusting
The Fireworms babies are so so precious, and their cave looks really cool
He's singing the baby a lullaby?! How is he being so soft, omg
Ha, Hookfang's awkward grin when the Queen looked at them
"Ho, ho, no you don't!" You go, Fishlegs! No one touches baby dragons on his watch
Hookfang got himself the worst possible babysitting job ever - he's gotta protect a hundred baby dragons, their mother, and his dumb of ass rider
Queenie is such a cute nickname
Hookfang is the real MVP of this ep
Another cute Hiccup&Snotlout interaction - Hiccup is really supportive of everyone, it's sweet
Ep3 - Fishlegs' 2nd name is Justin?
Wow, Astrid and Ruff look weeeeird like that - and why is Gothi also wanting him??
Uhm, are we not gonna comment on Fishlegs dreaming of Snotlout confessing to him dressed as a bride too? No? Okay, then
"Why would Hiccup put you in charge?" Uhm, he's the only one with common sense, for starters
Okay, that throwing-the-pot thing is not cool, guys, please stop it,it's giving me ptsd
I want Fishlegs to punch one of them, but I don't think it'll happen - not now at least
Okay, I feel like Hiccup was a little harsh there. Fishlegs should not have to be their babysitter, they're old enough to know their actions have consequences. Before being disappointed in Fishlegs, he should be so at the others
Meatlug is such a sweetheart
So is Fishlegs
They actually kept the name Smidvarg, that's awesome
I would prefer to fight an angry Monstrous Nightmare over giving any money to Snotlout too
"-but he usually geeks out with me!" I love the nerdy friendship these two have, it's so sweet
Yay, Darkvarg!
Those two nerds are adorable
Ep4 - We're off to a great start already, with tired dad Hiccup
Oh, more of Spitelout huh - not sure how i feel about that
I kinda wanna see Snotlout's handwriting now, after he criticized his dad's so harshly
Spitelout built an entire house by himself in a month?
Hiccup deserves credit for being able to realize "Asia Fondue" was supposed to be "deja vu"
Snotlout is basically cradling Hiccup in that trap
I'm not understanding all this fear - compared to the last few we've seen, this one doesn't look too scary honestly
Snotlout was super confident about the S thing
Okayyy now it's getting dangerous, Snotlout please don't try to fight Stoick
Hiccup, ever the peace-maker
God, David Tennant is such a good voice actor, and the accent is so satisfying to hear, I caaaaan't
Okay, for once Stoick's comment was unnecessary, I don't think Spitelout knew of the underbelly thing either
Yeahh, Snotlout doesn't want to fight Stoick and Hiccup on this, he'd leave with them if his dad wasn't there
Hiccup really has the Jogersons' psyches well thought-out huh
Yayy for reconciliation! I think
I don't understand what was the meaning behind Snotlout and the yak, but it was cute that he saved it
And of course, he named it too
Ep5 - So remember when I said, way back there, that this show was gonna like to hurt Astrid a lot? Yeahhhh surprise, surprise
I really would like to meet the Thorston family
Wow, they all look serious for once, Snotlout even asked her, all worried, if she was okay, damn
The Buffalord reminds me so much of an Ivysaur, he's sho cute
Oh and he puffs! Niiiice
Okay, that was a cute Hiccstrid moment
Oh my lord seriously?? Hunters now??
"Fishlegs, I thought you were above name-calling!" God I hate him, but I love his dialogues
No medicine works that quickly, but sure
Also, yeah Buff is gonna puff out as soon as they try to move him, so the hunters are losing today
That was a powerful ending that I was not expecting
Ep6 - I'm honestly not sure who's gonna be proved wrong by the end of the episode, Hiccup's paranoia, or the gang's carelessness
Of course the chicken has a meal plan
It's annoying me that they're swimming with their clothes on, but I'll close my eyes to it
So the dragons aren't okay
You cannot tell me the other riders didn't hear Fishlegs' screams
It was something in the water I'm guessing, since Toothless is okay
Okay, maybe I'm biased, but isn't it always Toothless the last one standing, or the one dragon that doesnt get hurt, or the only one that notices something's wrong? Like, what about the others? Are Toothless' skills that above the other dragons that he notices what none other does?
This was a salty comment, but I do wonder
Omg, Gobber actually tried to follow Tuff's regime for the chicken
Tuff's chicken completely threw off Both Gobber and Stoick, that's great
Wow, they really all blame Hiccup, was not expexting that
Tuffnut saves the day!!
Omg, the Grimoras are so creepyyy, ew
Where did Fishlegs get those rocks?
Sooo, Snotlout and Hookfang burn down places together for fun? Okay, you piromaniacs
Tuffnut has a genuinely cute relationship with his chicken
Ep7 - God, of course those three would notice something like that
Also, all of them ganging up on him, and Fishlegs is just able to hold them all - everyone is so tiny compared to him, I wonder the damage Fishlegs could do if he wasn't so gentle
"Who said it's a she?" Snotlout keeping all options on the table like the dumbass bi he is
Snotlout is so delusional i love/hate it
Fishlegs' annoyed face and the little tsk before "Pretty much" was everything
Even Hiccup?? Jesus, no privacy
The shots they take at Hiccup's leg are really funny, im sorry
Aw, Fishlegs does have a crush on her too! We know she does because it was mentioned way back in S1 i think
I just noticed Snotlout's hut has a statue of him holding it, my god
I really wish someone would mention that Snotlout also went through a phase of crushing on Fishlegs, bad, even if it was while he was Thor. That would probably be funny
Awww, I kinda ship them now, they're so cute!
Aw, she has her own hut? It's so tiny and cute
Like, I know she's not staying, but I can't tell why yet, and I really don't want this to end in heartbreak...
These scenes with the Nadder flocks and then Toothless and Windshear are a nice reminder that the dragons are still, well, dragons - the others are already so well-trained I forget they were wild before and had to be trained
I hate myself for this, but I can't help but think Heather is using Windshear as an excuse... There's something else here
Hookfang!!! No, let go of the tsundere dragon!
Sooo, Tuff speaks spanish, okay
"Beans, Snotlout. They're called beans!" "Beeeans~" Omg, these two i swear
Wow, so she is staying, okay, nice, I'm gonna enjoy seeing where this is going
Soo, that's it for the first part of S3
This was a long one, hope that's okay :T

Serotonin Booster :D 🐉
How to train your dragon edition
Here are some things I had forgotten or little details I just noticed on my rewatch, maybe even Unpopular Opinions 🤭👀
✨Race to the Edge✨
SEASON 3
Dagur and Hiccup working together.. That's crazy but we love to see it
Also Toothless' facial expressions on ep1 are so good
- and the way Hiccup screamed "I hate you" after Dagur abandoned him was so sad 🥺
- TOOTHLESS TRUSTING DAGUR ENOUGH TO LET HIM RIDE HIM 🥺🥺
I love how Hiccup and Fishlegs always reward their dragon
Cavern Crasher - scavenging mystery class, pushes dragon out of their home and takes over, extremely fast, it's mucus becomes flammable when it hits the air, feeds on the other dragon's eggs, collapses it's skeleton and squeezes through cracks.
Dude I remember when I couldn't watch the Crash Course ep(2) bc I thought it was boring but I've come to appreciate it more. IT'S JUST SO FUNNY! We have the twins being... Well the twins and then we have proud, overprotective Snotlout SINGING TO THE BABY FIREWORMS 🤩
No bro but the way Hookfang and the Fireworm Queen combined their firepower
And the lil Hiccup and Snotlout moment at the end🥺🥺🥺
GOTHI TALKED❗️❕❗️❕
They treated Fishlegs so harshly 🥺 like I get why Hiccup would be mad at him but still like 😞 [ep3 with the night terrors and the lost civilizations ]
- i love how Hiccup felt bad after he treated Fishlegs the way he did
Fishlegs hugs >>>
Snotlout: I'm having Asia Fondue. Something seems oddly familiar
Hiccup: Snotlout, are you trying to say "deja vu"?
Singetail - its first appearance was in ep4, can fire from almost any part of its body -> mouth, tail, & underbelly.
Both Snotlout and Spitelout are trying to prove themselves to Hiccup and Stoick
Even tho ep4 is not one of my favorite eps I really liked how Spitelout and Stoick were ok at the end
BUFFALORD SOLDIER ONE OF MY FAVORITES
- bc of Hiccstrid ofcccc😭🤩
The Scourge of Odin - plague that tore through the Archipelago centuries ago, wiping out entire Viking villages. It moves swiftly, overtaking it's victims in less than 3 moons. Cure: green solution made out of the saliva of a Buffalord
The way both Hiccup and Snotlout seemed so worried🥺
Buffalord - all hunted to extinction during the Scourge's last outbreak, big, has ram- like horns and lives on the plains, extremely strong.
"I can't imagine a world without you in it"
THE WAY HE HOLDS HER🥺 nonono and the way he carries her and lightly touches her shoulder and holds her hand 🥺 I can't -
The way the dragons went crazy was kinda scary
Grimora - rare parasite that attach themselves to dragon and release a toxin that causes them to turn wild.
Stormfly loves bath time
Love how the water looked in this episode 🥺
Not all of them making fun of Fishlegs for having a girlfriend
Heather and Fishlegs 🥺🥰
Why is windshear kinda spoiled..
Hiccup was just kidnapped and Toothless is being forced to fight now
The way Astrid is so smart and gorgeous and beautiful and UGHHHH I love her 🥺
And Hiccup standing up for Toothless even tho he can't really do anything about it :(
OK BUT ASTRID'S EXCITEMENT WHENEVER SHE REALIZED THEY WERE OK AND THE WAY THEY HUG 🥺🥺🥺🥺
Triple Stryke AMAZING DRAGON I LOVE IT SM
I got chills whenever they freed the dragons and whenever they were shooting the ppl that paid for the dragon fights
Do I love them? Yes. Yes, I do.
BBY DEATHSONG IS SO ADORABLE
Tuff comes up with the craziest names, but Ig Garffiljorg the Deathsong has a certain ring to it 😩😶🤩😂
THE DEATHSONG REALLY WENT FOR THE KILL... HE REALLY SHOT CHICKEN AND WAS ALL LIKE 😏😋
CHICKEN PASSED OUT HAHSHABAVVA
HICCUP AND SNOTLOUT AND THE TWINS SINGING OMG
THE 🔥INFERNOOO🔥 OMG YESS and the way he got so excited to start working on it more 🥺
The Quakens feel the vibrations of the Earth and they're extremely strong
FISHLEGS DOING THE HAND THING ON THE QUAKENS
Dagur riding Toothless will never not be funny "why'd you do me like that bud?"
Just found a mistake! In ep11 Hiccup sends Snotlout and Heather out so he can teach Dagur how to ride a dragon without Heather killing him. Then, he has to go to his Hut to get a spare leg and leaves Dagur alone WHERE HE'S FOUND BY THE GANG INCLUDING SNOTLOUT-
Dagur and Fishlegs forming a friendship
Heather crying for Dagur is so heartbreaking dude like she's gone through so much 🥺
Sir Ulgerthorpe is hilarious 🤩
GOBBER JUST FOUND HIS DRAGON OMG YAY I LOVE HIM 😩🥺
Astrid and Heather being extreme badasses👏🏼 we love to see it 😍
In ep12 whenever they get caught Astrid puts her hand on Hiccup's shoulder and Hiccup responds to this by putting his hand on top of hers AND I JUST CANT WITH THESE LIL MOMENTS! and the change in music too🥺
AND JHDHSHAJAHSA TUFFNUT RUNNING AGAINST THE WALL AND RUFF NOT BEING EVEN FAZED but when she realizes she smiles HAHDHHSHAHA
AND THEN HER TELLING HIM TO TRY AGAIN

Dragons: The nine realms season 3 review/thought
At first I'm considering formating this review as "The good, the bad and the ugly" But after having watching it I feels that there's too little for me to consider bad or ugly so instead this is going to be in the usual mix opinion bullet form. and my general opinion is that----
Season 3 is easily the best of the 3 season! and the closest it feels to the old series with how dragons focus it is. It's like an improve season 2 without dubious dragon designs like Bubblehorn or Spiderwing or a horrible Buzzsaw introduction episode. Of course there’re still problems and I wouldn’t say the improvement is drastic or series changing that would convinve people to like the show if they’ve already decide via first two season that the show is not their cup of tea. The plot and written is still bare-bone and only servicable but all in all It’s still the same turn your brain off dragons of the episode show I can enjoy with the open-minded. Now for the indepth points;
- There are 3 new named dragons introduced in this season and I'm very glad to say that for once, all three dragons hit and none has miss! I really love these new additions whole heartedly. Flamethrowers although I would place somewhere in the middle tier comfortably with something like Sandbuster, Grim gnasher or Shadow wing, you know, late rtte dragons (and has lame name) as like not having much to standout, I do think is one of the most, how should I say this, completed well rounded design from nine realms if I say so myself.
Deadly Spinner is weird but in the good endearing weird, my favourite kind of weird. I like my dragon weird and eff up. They are Therizinosaurus sort of weird animal. also Bias but they reminds me of my fan dragons. I also like the face and the spine. This is kind of thing I'm talk about with Spiderwing. Spiderwing basically just a spider with wings slapping on top of it but this guy is a properly spider inspired dragons the way I like. Still sad we dont get to see animated silkspanner though. Dreamworks come on!!!
and lastly the Sky torcher is a thing of beauty! I was very surprise when the thing appear and looking this good thanks to the lack of appearance in the trailer or marketing, nice!
oh and also there are these nameless guys.
- All the returning species are a darling and was done justice and got a lot of screentime for their whole episode they appear. There're monsterous nightmare, Gronckle (fire gronckle but basically the same thing),Fireworm, Quaken and Hobgobbler who make a debut in any series ever. as well as Terrible terror and Razorwhip who are still here to stay. Fireworm is my one of my top favourite and seeing them get the episode dedicate to it make me happy.
Although why is nightmare walk like the nadder? When is fireworm having pupils?
- I have mentioned this before but I like that they avoid mentioning the old dragon species name because it would make no sense for the kid to come up with the exact same species of dragons, with the closest mention of it being "These little terrors" or "this fire breathing Nightmare". Monsterous Nightmare is more or less being dub as "Fire breather" in this era. (kids and their creative naming smh, it fits the kids character but hahaha)
- Feather and Alex are continue to cary the show. Not just for their likability but also their in-universe compitent like omg Feather make Thunder look so incompitent with all the heavy lifting she pull this season, Night fury who? she basically naping the MVP status none stop. Big bad dragon? disorientrd with her scream. Human discovering dragons? invisibility. Needing distraction or prep talk? Alex got your back. I think at this point Feather is now my third favourite dragon character after Thornado and Cloudjumper
-There're clear progression of the human discovering dragons plot, something I normally dread on the previous first two season for being the bad part of the show but this season they actually handle it pretty well because like i said, clear progression (instead of keep dancing around it). Eugene now knows. Alex moms now sorta know. Buzzsaw now knows...
- Speaking of Buzzsaw, he's still the negative spot of the show and is a very incompetent villain but looking at him as a Diet Dagur and it made sense and somewhat passable. Still pretty weak and annoying and yeah.."Diet"
- As for the scient site stuff, they're actually mostly on the side line this season and not much of a bother.
- Eugene! I like his inclusion in this season and the team!
- Jun's character is actually improving, a welcoming improvement
- There's a lot of good human-dragon interaction in this season. Particulary on the first episode between Tom and the Monsterous Nightmare, The quaken episode and the last episode with Tom and the Fault ripper arc being resolve. The quaken episdoe while i still has some issues on the ending think handle an interesting set up of D'angelo just---just---feeding Quaken's eggs to the gronckles and deal with the grieving mother. The ending is kind of a cop-out but it's still the episode I enjoy
-Majority of the jokes actually land and I found myself chuckling on various point in every episode. I plan on putting it in the review but found there's so much so I just going to bring up one of my favourite being when Buzzsaw discovered Thunder and Eugene just yoink him in the heas and put a leaf on him.
-Thunder takes a back seat????? which might consider be a problem/issue to thunder continuing to be the boring one (tm) of the show but because I have that issue with thunder the fact that this season barely focus on him actually kind of feel nice. Like he's still around but kinda being just as Tom's riden dragon. Almost similar to how Toothless in the old series doesn't have much character outside of Hiccup riden dragon either *gunshot*
- The invasive species plot in this arc make me think back about the ethnicity of Toothless' decision in Hidden world and reminds me of my own plot------pro-segregation Toothless/hj
- Sad theres nothing to come out more of the Alpha gem yet. It's one of the plot thread I'm very interesting on (again because it reminds me of my own plot)
- The musics while over-dramatic at time, do slap
- better texture and lighting? I think composition and animation still the main issue that is work against it but season 3 look much better on the eye or I might just already getting use to it.
- The ending. I'm never that BIGGGG on rtte either but I gasped and getting a little giddy.
- I 90% predict snow wraith is going to show up next season (because we know they're going to be in the game) also finger cross for desert realm desert realm desert realm
Over all pretty happy/content with this season and actually very excited for the next one. again, if you are not on board in the first place this probably still wont do it. but I'm happy. I will also be looking forward to the video game that is going to be release later this year.
Lastly, the regular new dragons rank. I will do both what I think is the best design and what dragon I feel emotionally attach to this time. There're some old dragons that move up and down on rank though to my opinion changing on them due to exposure, like Misttwister who is growing on me quite a bit. Magma breather is straight up just a good dragon with good design I took back my lukewarm opinion from the last season. Fault ripper I still have problem with how it looks generic and out of place and like melificent dragon stumbling into the wrong show but I can begin to acknowledge the merit of some of its design and I don't turn my nose when I saw it again this season. I actually like it fine. Flood fang unfortunately droping down due to lesser exposure and me begin to think it's too simple.
Best design <> Fav dragons
1. Gembreaker, Featherhide
2. Featherhide , Gembreaker
3. Flamethrower, Deadly Spinner
4. Sky torcher, Sky torcher
5. Magma breather, Magma breather
6. Flood fang, Flood fang
7. Deadly Spinner, Flamethrower
8. Misttwister, Misttwister
9. Faultripper, Faultripper
10. Thunder, Thunder
11. Spiderwing, Spiderwing
12. Bubblehorn, Bubblehorn

I've never really posted any of my fan art on here before so here is a collection of some of my HTTYD art haha lol
This is the first drawing I did after rewatching HTTYD 2 and I wanted to give Ruffnut a makeover so that bitch did get one! I gave her Zippleback shoulder armour things and I really think they missed an opportunity but hey, if everyone was a genius then I would be out of a job (bitch you got no job now the fuck you talking about)
Next up is a character design! As you Pagans may already know, I am abso-fucking-lutely besotted with our smol Snotlout and in my writings which are currently on hold due to my favourite seasonal festivity, um, uh Seasonal Depression :) this is Halla, Snotlout's Mother and because Hiccup and Snotlout are cousins in the majority of my AUs, she is also Valka's older sister. This idea came to me because Valka has beautiful blue eyes and well, our favourite bastard also has beautiful blue eyes. Halla is HEAVILY inspired by the Vikings character Lagatha, so she is obviously a great nearly legendary shield-maiden, and though my backstory for her isn't complete, I assume she takes little to no shit from assholes and most likely divorced Spitelout. (Because, by the Gods, he is THE Asshole™)
But he didn't always used to be an asshole. Haha lol bruh
Here we see a young Spitelout simping over a young Halla, who looks rather unimpressed at whatever bullshit he's throwing at her. Also IM simping over the young Stoick I drew because damn, I'd let him tie me up if he was looking at me like that
Um, Chile✨👁️👄👁️✨ anyways so-
Now here are my designs of the Riders parents when they were younger! I am rather poor at character designing and I am only capable at drawing heads and shoulders constantly (I ain't about no knees, toes or torsos)
So first is Siggy and Nuffnut. Now I've internally redesigned Siggy to be a complete replica of Floki from Vikings because I love him soo much and I just want to write about a character with that personality and humour. I haven't drawn her new style but I will soon, she looks too sane rn. But Nuffnut I like a lot. In all of my AU he dies when the twins are around twelvish I guess, probably in battle or something or other, which is why I think Tuffnut would lock his hair and get piercings to pay tribute to his dad.
Next on the roster is Fishback and Heidi. Fishback is like the opposite to Fishlegs besides their curiosity for knowledge and dragons, and Fishlegs gets his tenderness and all that stuff from his mother. That's really I got for these two.
Then Iric and Eira. Iric cannot cook and has a love for axes that is near obsessive, also the headband he's wearing is the one Astrid wears haha lol bruh. Eira is also a shield-maiden and Astrid is like her carbon copy, except Eira has brown eyes haha lol bruh.
And finally I did Spitelout and Halla. Really, Halla is just Berk's Baddie Bitch and Spitelout is just simp that got lucky.
I didn't do Stoick and Valka because fuck you that's why sorry I'm just really lazy bitch sack me haha lol bruh.
Now this is where you see my obsession over a certain smol man called Snotlout. Ee yikes. He's crying a lot because I am still really over Race to Fireworm island and y'all know the drill that if you have a favourite character, that bitch has got to suffer because you have to use someone to vent on bitch haha lol bruh. Theres two drawings on the same page that contradict each other where it's Spitelout being a good father at the bottom and being an abusive cunt at the top. I both am obsessed over redemption and revenge and I still can't choose which one Spitelout deserves. (Bitch probably revenge but okay)
Also for all the goes out there I did do some Eretlout because that shit is slept on. Hope you like haha lol bruh. Snotlout does give me bratty bottom vibes and is definitely a touch-starved bitch. Eret is also HENCH and Jesus, imagine that voice in the bedroom like oh lord im a boutta bust! Smol touch-starved bitch and Tol British-boi hunk. Proper nice proper bargain
I also gave RTTE Snotlout a redesign. Gave him scars, an emo-fringe and a little pony-tail thing. Haha lol Bruh
My favourite two are definitely Snotlout enjoying a nice flight with hiccup and toothless in back ground. And of course, the angriest picture I've ever drawn- SHEESH boo you mad! Betta be yo daddy you screaming at and I ain't talking about Eret. 👁️👄👁️
And there it is, my shitty fan art page haha lol bruh bye

Dragons of the Wilderwest
So in Dracones Mundi all dragons start out as serpentine creatures - this would also be true if the Wilderwest existed in this world. The dragons would appear as brown or black serpents with a few mottled patterns or spots. After about a year they will start to develop more defining characteristics; interesting colours, small wings, small forelimbs and the starts of horns. At this age they are perfect for small viking children to kidnap during their winter sleep:
The four dragon hatchlings above are the perfect size to accompany children for around 12 books worth of adventures.
We have one dragon who may either be a Common or Garden or a Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus, it is hard to tell aside from the wart on the end of the snout; this is actually a budding nose-horn which will become apparent in later life. His owner misidentified him as a Common or Garden and so named him a ‘Toothless Daydream’, a fictional breed, to explain why his teeth have not ruptured the gums yet and why he has a few quirks not known in common or garden dragons.
The next wyrmling above is a Mood Nadder; when they are young they can subtly change their colours to match their mood to act as a warning to would-be predators, puffing up and turning a dangerous blue-black when stressed, but otherwise shifting through greens, purples, reds and golds. They are adept fliers from a young age.
The small far brown wyrmling is a Basic Brown; she is very similar to a Common or Garden dragon. They are easy to train and very polite; an owner might try to instill a sense of grandeur into this placid animal by calling it ‘Horrorcow’, although the ‘horror’ is less apt than the ‘cow’ part.
The final dragon is a Monstrous Nightmare or Fireworm; strongly developed sharp teeth, strong claws and an arrowhead tail define this dragon at a young age. They are usually reserved as the pets for Viking chieftans.
These four dragons develop a lot as they grow from childhood companions to the large creatures that you might base 3 action packed films on (see below the cut)
The Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus becomes more streamlined and adapted for life at sea. The green ‘mackerel’ pattern darkens to a deep black to help camouflage the animal in the water, and he develops bioluminescent dorsal markings to demonstrate his strengths to conspecifics. His temperament mellows from a chaotic gremlin of a dragon to a majestic and noble creature, yet his reputation switches from a ‘Toothless Daydream’ to a ‘Night Fury’ as his appearance and size is certainly more threatening!
The Mood Nadder loses her ability to change colour as she ages; she becomes so formidable that she doesn’t need to flash much warning colouration aside from the yellows, blues and purples to signify she is venomous with venomous spines. She can whip her tail around to provide a devastating injury with those spikes; each spike has micro-serrations along the edge to make an extra painful cut!
The Basic Brown changes from a ‘Horrorcow’ to a ‘Meatlug’; still rather gentle and placid, but with more spikes and spines and armour to act as defence against larger and more aggressive dragons. A lovable and affectionate creature!
And finally, the Fireworm becomes a Hookfang; larger claws, bigger teeth, a change from a flame-red to a burning orange, this tiger-striped terror of the skies can bioluminesce a firey orange so it looks like she has set herself on fire! These are large and vicious dragons, and should be treated with caution.
...
I hope you enjoyed this HTTYD fanwork, I have had some Asks in the past on the topic of making How to Train Your Dragon dragons into Dracones Mundi dragons, from @varinjr (link to post here) and from an anonymous account (link to post here) but I got those asks ages ago and I think I have improved in my art and concepts since then!
In Dracones Mundi the offspring of a dragon often looks so wildly different from its adult form that I thought it would be good to play around with that and the difference between the book and film versions of the franchise - also wyrmish serpentine dragons fit well with the ‘vikings and sea monsters’ aesthetic of the books (although I admit the book dragons are definitely more catlike, but it’s my fanart and I want to draw them as noodles).
Fanart of other dragon works is always fun; none of these dragons are canon to Dracones Mundi as they are already canon in Cressida Cowell’s books and Dreamworks’ films, I just like to do a little fanart now and then!

First, I know many people don’t like THW. I know some of the the character portrayals weren’t good, or didn’t show development. Like for the Riders, considering that they did have development in the shows that were canon and came out before the release. But I like to look into it a little sometimes because I love my Hiccstrid and see what I like and don’t like. So no hate please. Also, this is my opinion so don’t go typing and saying I’m wrong please. This was a lot to type and i typed it late at night so, maybe there will be errors. Other than that, have a great time reading this very long post. (But it’s not the longest I’ve seen, especially for an analysis)
SO, let’s get started.
We all know this scene:
There are a few things that could have made it even more meaningful and sad. (MY OPINION)
So let’s begin. Here, you see Toothless roar something that we can only assume to be orders to follow the Lightfury to the Hidden World. Then the Lightfury leads the dragons away.
But Toothless stays behind.
Probably looking back to Hiccup, asking if he was sure he could go, or looking back one last time.
So here comes my point. Again, the THW portrayals didn’t have much development show through, but they DID have development! RTTE, ROB, DOB, and all the others are CANON. They did happen, no matter how bad the THW portrayals were. So for those who have watched the ENTIRE series, Race to the Edge, Riders and Defenders of Berk, and EVERYTHING else, the scene would be especially emotional if all the Dragon Riders’ dragons had done the same as Toothless and looked back one last time, together.
Yes, I do understand that Toothless and Hiccup had a stronger bond, but the Riders still had the strongest of the village. They had all connected with the dragons more then anyone else over the years.
Like how Astrid poisoned herself and nearly died to get an antidote when she thought Stormfly was poisoned by the SlitherWings. And there was the time Hookfang lost his fire and was dying, and Snotlout risked getting killed by the Fireworm queen to get the fireworm to Hookfang. And when the Twins had tried to do everything to get Barf and Belch back when they owed a life debt to Hiccup, and then ended up saving Barf and Belch from drowning and Dragon Hunters. Then there was when Fishlegs became Thor Bonecrusher and pushed Meatlug away, but she still saved him from a Scauldron and then Fishlegs saved her when he came back to his senses. For Hiccup and Toothless I don’t need to say anything, because everyone knows about the countless they saved each other.
Just the action of the dragons of The Gang looking back at their human friends before they go, would break my heart. They all were the friends had changed each others’ worlds six years ago. How their lives had been flipped around, and they had to suddenly accept a new reality. Who knew that it would be the best thing that ever happened to any of them? Now it would change once again.
And what about Dragons Edge? They had built a base together, a place to call home. The home where they journeyed from North, to South, to East, and to West! Those lessons learned on their journeys, all the new dragons they found, the enemies they fought, the allies they made, and all the development together. Just thinking about that while watching overwhelms me with nostalgia and how we watched them grow from reckless and adventurous teens, to mostly responsible adults. That’s when the waterworks begin.
Those adventures, the fun, the heartaches, the triumphs, the defeats... EVERYTHING! They had been through EVERYTHING together, all of them, as a team. There would be no more of that. Sure, they knew after Hiccup became Chief that there would be more responsibilities and less fun. Though none of them expected the dragons they love to leave. None of them expected to be on the edge of a cliff, looking at their best friends mournfully... one last time. The best friends,
who were turning around to fly to the end of the world, being separated from each other, and never to experience the thrill of adventure together ever again.

Promise~
Hey there People! I’m so glad that I’m finally able to present you the first os of a two parts story I wrote and called "Upcoming Age". I have this in mind since a long time but wasn’t able to write it!
@poppysfanworld gave me the idea of the flashback and I also was inspired by the artbook and the piece of art of @looneylolita!
I hope you’ll enjoy this chapter :)
...
Like a dancing ballet, the dragons flew to the hidden world. The spectacle of their flapping wings showed the greatness of these majestic beings. Hiccup had spent five years of his life with them and witnessing their departure was by far the most difficult thing he had ever faced. Toothless’ glanced down even more. He looked at his human friend from the edge of the cliff with his big sad eyes, still hesitating to take off. The auburn-haired man smiled through his tears to reassure him, as if to say, ‘It's going to be alright’, and Toothless gave him one last look before flying off to his freedom.
The Berkians stayed long in front of this cliff, gazing at the sky, even after all the dragons had left. Thereafter, everyone had finally returned to the camp. The dragon riders had wanted to stay a little longer, but eventually did the same. Only the chief remained.
In the absence of his artificial leg to support him, he had taken a seat at the edge of the cliff and remained there until nightfall, lost in thought. The tears he had let flow earlier, had dried on his cheeks.
He heard footsteps behind him. Someone crouched down by putting their hand on his shoulder. Without having to turn around, he knew it was Astrid. His gaze crossed hers and the young man's face relaxed. His features softened as he smiled at her.
"Come on, it's time to join the others."
Hiccup sighed before agreeing. She helped him to get up and he leaned on her shoulder to walk. Astrid supported him in his steps to where the villagers had gathered. Small groups had formed around improvised campfires.
The couple passed through them, stepping over a few people. They watched the men rub their hands to warm themselves by the fire. They told each other stories from the good old days, smiling at the memory of the dragons.
Berk obviously needed to gather after the sad event that had just taken place. Sharing the happy memories that their friendship with the dragons had given them seemed like good therapy.
The further he went, the more amazement could be seen on the young leader's face. Seeing his people gather in this way made them happy despite everything that had happened.
Astrid turned to him.
"What should we do when our loved ones are not with us?"
"We celebrate them," he replied without hesitation.
That's what his father always said. He always had the right words in difficult times. Hiccup was happy to have Astrid at his side for this, among other reasons. She reminded him a lot of his father and it helped him to move forward.
They finally found their old friends sitting in a circle around a fire. The gang was complete. Fishlegs was crying in Ruffnut’s arms as she gave her brother a sadden glance. Snotlout, who was next to Tuffnut, watched the scene unfold without saying anything. They looked really bad. They looked up when their group leader and friend arrived. He smiled at them before sitting beside them.
"So what are you doing out here?" he said to them.
"Well, like everyone else... " Tuffnut replied.
"We’re telling each other stories," her sister added.
"We were recalling the time when the twins almost burned down the shoreline with the fireworms fiasco," explained Snotlout, somewhat amused.
"And I was explaining to them that it wasn't completely my fault... maybe Ruffnut’s," retorted the male twin.
Snotlout was about to say something, but Hiccup cut him off.
"The Edge... it was the good old days, wasn't it?"
"We were young and free," Astrid agreed.
The others then let themselves go to their good memories.
"The Dragon Eye... when we discovered it, it changed everything. It allowed us to explore the world... a world so vast... " his voice broke when he realized that he could never explore this world in this way anymore.
Astrid grabbed his hand and squeezed it into hers, as if to testify to his presence, she was there for him.
"It also allowed us to expand our knowledge of dragons! " exclaimed Fishlegs, who had just dried his tears. "We've discovered so much! Between the Night Terrors, the Death Songs, the Sentinels, the Eruptodons, the Razorwhips..."
This last evocation inevitably reminded him of Heather, for whom he had been of particular interest for some time. As he looked at others, he realized that they had thought of her too. Astrid put a reassuring hand on her shoulder.
"I miss her too," she sighed, trying to smile.
"Ah... she still had the coolest dragon of all," exclaimed Tuffnut, looking nostalgic.
Everyone laughed at his dreamy gaze.
"We experienced a lot of things there, though... " said Ruffnut. "We learned to work as a team, didn't we, Astrid?" she said while giving a light punch to Astrid’s shoulder.
"Aha, that's right."
"And we have met so many different people, different cultures, different places..." added the chief.
"The last few years have been really rich," concluded his girlfriend.
"Rich in twists and turns, yeah," Snotlout suddenly exclaimed. "Don't forget that we almost got killed, I don't know how many times, by dragon hunters! Not to mention the volcano on the shore, which almost destroyed the entire island! And do you remember the time you and Fishlegs almost-"
Astrid had presented him with her axe in front of his eyes and Hiccup had hastened to lower it down gently.
"And you forget how many dragons we were able to save because of our recklessness," Hiccup reminded him.
The brown-haired man looked down, grumbling, and Hiccup continued his speech.
"We left Berk to live new adventures, to learn how to manage on our own. And that's what we did. We've been through... so much there. These last six years have undoubtedly been the best years of my life. I've been through... incredible things with Toothless, with all of you. We learned to help each other, to support each other in the most difficult times."
He turned to Astrid and looked into her eyes.
"To love each other."
The blonde's blue eyes grew larger; a smile appeared on the corners of her lips. Hiccup took her hand, squeezed it, and kissed her, before facing the gang once again.
"And as for today, we left Berk to offer a better life to our dragons and new adventures that await us."
He squeezed the hand of the young Hofferson, once more. The rest of the dragon riders looked disconcerted. They were stunned by the words of their leader. They all nodded with big eyes. All except Tuffnut.
"That's all well and good, but can you tell me who's going to take me to see Chicken now?!" he exclaimed.
The others looked at him strangely before laughing with a good heart.
Hiccup felt as if a breath of fresh air was invading him. Like he could breathe again. As if any tension had dissipated. His friends had managed to cheer him up. He felt good in their presence. And he knew he owed it to one person.
"Thank you," he said, turning to the one he loved.
This one smiles at him. With a glance, he invited her to get up to escape from the group. She took him under her arm and they left the others with a last nod.
As they moved away from the crowd to their respective tents, they observed the landscape around them. They had a whole village to rebuild, a whole life.
In front of the distracted look of her boyfriend, the blonde called him by name.
"Hiccup, are you all right?"
"I feel better. Thank you again for taking me to see them. I needed this."
The girl looked down and smiled.
"You had to make a serious decision today. It was essential to the survival of the dragons and to ours as well."
She raised his head and looked into his eyes.
"I just want you to know that even though it was hard for all of us, you made the right decision, Hiccup."
Hearing Astrid say it aloud reassured him somewhat because it was true that he had asked himself the question and had turned it over several times in his head after the fact. But Astrid knew him too well and she already knew all that.
"I'm going to miss him," the young leader whispered.
They had just arrived in front of his tent. Astrid helped him to sit on the floor while keeping a comforting hand on his shoulder. In his saddened look, she held his head in her hands.
"I'm going to miss him too, just as much as Stormfly, but you did it for their own good."
The young woman lowered her hands down along his chest.
"And, they'll always be there," she had finished saying by placing a hand on his heart.
She managed to get a smile from Berk’s chief, who covered her hand with his. His other hand caressed her face by releasing it from the golden strands that concealed it.
"You've always been there for me, Astrid."
He kissed her on her forehead.
"Toothless is my best friend. He helped me to become the man I am today. But none of this would have been possible without your support."
The girl's eyes opened wide.
"Living without him will be a difficult ordeal, but you know what, Astrid?"
He paused.
"When I picture myself happy, it's with you."
Hiccup’s face relaxed. He smiled, with misty eyes:
"Do you remember the promise I made to you when we were children?"
"As if it was yesterday," the young woman agreed.
"So I’m asking you Astrid Hofferson, do you want to spend the rest of your life with me?"
Winter was already well settled in when young Hiccup Haddock decided to leave home. As usual, he had left without permission. Anyway, his father Stoick the Vast wasn't there to stop him. And with Gobber as his only babysitter, he could get away.
At just ten years old, the future village chief was an intrepid boy, in love with nature and its beauty. He liked to get lost in the woods. He didn't really have any friends among the children in the village, but he claimed to love his solitude. The truth is that he was only looking for recognition from his village, and for them to stop treating him a ball and chain.
He soon arrived at the entrance to the forest. He rubbed his arms to warm himself up a little before venturing inward. His feet treaded on the snow-covered ground, leaving footprints behind him, sinking deeper into the forest. The young boy had planned to land in a quiet place to observe the few birds that would hide in the hollows of the trees. In this period of extreme cold, the dragons had left as they did every time the Snoggletog period arrived. The small animals could therefore find a quiet life where they did not have to constantly escape from their dangerous flames.
Hiccup then took a position on a tree trunk from which he could observe some birds coming out to wash themselves. He grabbed his notebook and, with his left hand, began to scribble some sketches. Despite the cold and his red cheeks, he continued to draw for nearly half an hour. After a while of staying in the same position, he decided to move to another place. He went a bit further into a more densely wooded area, and settled again. He began to draw the trees around him and the white carpet at their feet. A noise, however, made him lift his head from his notebook. He closed it with one hand and approached the sound he had just heard. It sounded like cracking wood. He then, continued to walk a little further.
"Ah!"
Someone seemed to be making a physical effort. He approached again.
Tchuc!
It was a girl cutting wood. She seemed to be his age. Two blond strands of hair protruded from her white fur hat. A wolf's skin as a coat, the little girl didn't seem to feel the cold.
Tchuc!
She chopped one more log. Hiccup was watching her closely. This figure looked familiar to him, but he was not sure of himself until she turned around. Without realizing it, he had laid a hand on a branch that had broken under the pressure of the latter. The noise had alerted the blonde. He instantly stooped down to hide.
"Is anyone there?"
That voice. That authoritarian voice that could only belong to one person. Astrid Hofferson. The girl had always occupied a very large place in his heart. So much so that he fell in love with it. He had fallen in love with her fiery temperament, her ability to handle the axe like no one else and her beautiful blue eyes. Hiccup was desperately in love with this girl but he was too shy to confess it to her. Yet he wanted to, but he was too afraid of being ridiculed.
"Have you been here long?!"
The young boy jumped. He hadn't seen it coming. He immediately got up to face her. She crossed her arms on her stomach and raised an eyebrow. And Hiccup knew what it meant; she wanted answers.
"Well... that is to say..."
"What exactly were you doing?"
He gulped with difficulty.
"Well, it's just... I was in the forest and... you were there and..."
"And what Haddock?"
He was stuck. She would never want to believe it. He had to invent something. Or not. Why not go for it?
"There, I followed you because... I love you Astrid Hofferson. Since forever and... one day I will marry you."
He had done it. He had said what he had on his mind.
"It‘s never gonna happen."
And she had dashed all his hopes in less than five seconds. Hiccup stood still in front of her, wondering why he had said all these things. The poor boy didn't know where to put himself. He finally regained his senses and turned back.
"Goodbye, Hiccup."
She had said his name. Astrid had said his name. And she said goodbye to him. The young boy's legs became all shaky. He smiled a little stupidly at her before leaving, red cheeked, for his hut. Gobber could lecture him tonight, it wouldn't change anything about what happened earlier in the forest.
Astrid had tears in her eyes.
"Of course, Hiccup."
He took her in his arms and held her very tightly against him. They were both so happy. They had come a long way. Astrid was so proud of what he had become. By doing that, Hiccup was finally taking full responsibility for himself.
Astrid slipped her hand over his cheek. She looked at his face.
"I love you Hiccup Haddock," she said before kissing him tenderly.
...
Huddled together in the chief's bed, Hiccup and Astrid were not asleep. They didn't need to talk either. One look was enough. And Hiccup looked her in the eye. He had a question.
"When?" he asked, clasping her hand.
"When what?"
"When are you going to be my wife?"
She smiled.
"In winter, just like when we got engaged."

Somethings I noticed during my second watch:
- Grimmel never made Toothless order the dragons to follow him. Grimmel threatened Nubless and Toothless told Berk’s dragons to stop their pursuit. Without another word spoken, (except the “you’re nothing without your dragon” comment to Hiccup) Grimmel leaves back for the enemy armada. Toothless signals the dragons to follow him without any prompting from Grimmel.
- SAW BOTH THE SNOTCUP AND THE TUFFCUP BUTT SLAP. It was glorious.
- Hiccup is definitely quite a bit broader in his 30s than the Hiccup we saw in Httyd 2 and most of Httyd 3. Boy still continues to fill out.
- New Berk doesn't have a dock. I noticed they had these large pullies with which they lift and lower their longboats in and out of the water. Boats that aren’t already from New Berk still can’t reach them.
- New Berk is even more gorgeous on the big screen and in HD. The shots of Hiccup and the Berkians flying over the multitude of waterfalls in those shots? I demand another movie that’s just an hour and a half of the Riders exploring the island.
- Night Furies don't do well in the cold. That is something Grimmel states. (Even though on Berk it’s cold enough to snow nine months of the year and rain the other three?) Does this mean Night Furies originally come from down South?
- Enemies to the East and the South. I knew of those enemies, but didn’t quite catch where they were the first time.
- Upon first meeting Toothless back on Old Berk, Nubless actually warns Toothless not to go any further. You then see Toothless staring at the middle of the clearing and avoid the part that is hit by the light. That is also the exact location where the trap is that Hiccup decides to let off after he, Toothless and Tuffnut return to the clearing they met Nubless.
- CLOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUDS!!! ANIMATION!!! LIGHT!!! HIDDEN WORLD!!! CLOOOOUUUUUDS
- VALKA’S HAIR IS SUCH A PRETTY RED! I LOVE IT SO MUCH! NO, I ADORE IT!!!
- Hiccup states that New Berk is "hidden", that is one of the reasons why they are allowed to use it as a base of operations.
- Hiccup says goodbye to Toothless permanent three times in a row. Make of that what you will.
- Pacing still feels a little bit off.
- Can Nubless scales heat up with fire? Like, can heat up her scales internally? She’s invisible in the cage in the opening scene and there isn’t enough space to fly through her own fire. And she’s invisible for a long time as she sneaks through the camp. So maybe she can heat up her scales from the inside aswell?
- When Berk is celebrating Hiccup as a chief after they approve of the island they have found, a woman seems to state “just like his father!” according to the subtitles I had while watching it in the theater.
- ROB AND RTTE REFERENCES:
Fireworms
Hiccup’s “we’ve dealt with his kind before” - They have dealt with another villain who lives for the hunt, for the game. (*coughs* Viggo and his lifesized maces and talons game *coughs*)
THE DRAGON TOY FROM BREAKNECK BOG
- When Toothless shows off the automatic tailfin, you can see Nubless give him a little bit of a subtle look. Perhaps this is the moment she starts to realize Hiccup is an okay human after all?
- Tuffnut and his “I’M WITH HIM, WHO ELSE?!” whenever Hiccup has a bit of trouble getting others on board with his ideas. (It happened three different times.)
- FINALLY SAW THE GOBRET!
- I know we were all like “jijskfjskfskjdsk- HiCcUP’s A FlaTEArthER?!” because that was a shock to us all, but looking at it now, Hiccup rolling his eyes at Tuffnut’s statement was more playful than anything.
- Hiccup just has barrels of weapons in his tent.
- Though Hiccup’s armour was made out of already shed Night Fury scales, they still allow him to become temporarily invisible. It was great.
- Hiccup’s jawline and chin is very scruffy in this movie.
- Hiccup’s wedding attire had Toothless as his emblem and Astrid had Stormfly.
- Zephyr and Nuffink on the big screen was even more adorable.
- Ruffnut considered Hiccup as a bachelor she would’ve considered if it hadn’t been for Astrid. Unlike Eret Son of Eret, Hiccup hadn’t “lost his chance”.
That’s all for now. Maybe I’ll add more to it later.

Hey :) I want to watch more httyd but sadly I've seen all the movies, are the tv series' any good? Which one should I start with?
Oh goodness, I have a post somewhere answering this very question, but I’m too lazy to find it. TIME FOR A REWRITE! XD
I find the HTTYD television materials VERY worthwhile additions to the DreamWorks Dragons franchise. I feel like we are extremely blessed to have over a hundred episodes of a show filled with fantastic moments and memories. Personally, I always encourage people to check them out. The shows won’t be for everyone, which is alright, but I feel that the television series has a lot going for it. I love the shows myself and constantly reference some points from them in my analyses because I think they’re so critical. I’ll explain pros and cons so you can make your own choice about whether or not the shows might be your thing.
I’d say the number one highlight of the television series is the increased time with the dragon riding gang - Hiccup, Fishlegs, Ruffnut, Tuffnut, Snotlout, and Astrid. Many of these characters are secondary in the movie trilogy, having little time on screen, but the television series fleshes them out. It’s because of the show that I fell in love with Snotlout’s character and saw him in three-dimensional depth; I’d say he’s the character they handle best, going into how he hides his insecurities with machismo because he wants to impress a berating father. It’s the show for why I attach to the twins; their sibling devotion and love for one another is brought out wonderfully on screen. There’s good moments with everybody, and you’ll see everyone pair up with everybody - what’s the friendship between Astrid and Tuffnut like? Now you’ll know.
I think a decent test for whether or not you’d enjoy the character dynamics is… well… did you like the character bantering that happened in THW? If so, that had a very distinct tv series feel to it - to the point that they were even referencing ongoing television series gags like Snotlout getting his ass caught on fire.
There’s other characters to meet and engage with too! We’ve got Heather, a badass young woman who connects well with Astrid. We’ve got Gustav, an obnoxious wannabe “Snotlout” who shadows the older dragon rider. We’ve got Mala, the queen of a warrior-trained society that reveres dragons. And there’s Atali, Minden, Throk, Savage, Alvin, Dagur, Mulch, Bucket, Mildew, Krogan, Johann, Viggo, Ryker, and more!
The television series is also good for laughs. Did you ever want a musical episode where Snotlout sings about how amazing he is? Did you ever want to see an entire pile of fish dunked on Hiccup’s head? How about where Hiccup painstakingly tries to talk without using the letter s? “TOOTHLEH! PLAMA BLAT!” is a moment I’ll never stop laughing at.
I also think the best DreamWorks Dragons villains are in the television series. Alvin the Treacherous is a hoot on screen, delightfully voice acted by Mark Hamill. Dagur the Deranged has his fan base for a reason. And for me? Viggo Grimborn is my number one favorite villain from the DreamWorks side of HTTYD - a manipulative, morally gray trader who is such a keen strategist he makes Hiccup appear a foolish child.
One small last point: there’s extra depth to appreciate about the films if you go through the shows. Astrid sympathizing with Hiccup in the first film makes even more sense once you realize her family name got tarnished and she felt social ostracization herself. You see Hiccup attempting to develop his flight suit and sword, leading into HTTYD 2 material. The presence of Fireworms in the third film is a reference to a dragon species introduced in the shows. A conversation point in THW about having dealt with “their kind before” (that is, dangerous people like Grimmel) is a reference to Hiccup’s adventures with Viggo Grimborn. The underground caves that become stables in HTTYD 2 were first found in the television series, explored in DOB. Stoick and Hiccup have several conversations about leadership that lend extra feels to the tragedy in HTTYD 2. Tuffnut yakking to Hiccup ridiculously in THW brings up all the memories of weird conversations they’ve had before… there’s extra context, content, and background to appreciate when you approach the movies with knowledge of the full franchise.
Now, the shows aren’t perfect, and it’s usually the same reasons why people don’t get engaged with the shows. Again: some fans love the shows and scream their way through episodes, some fans dislike the shows and refuse to touch them, and some fans are “meh” about the shows and get through them with liquor. It’s all dependent on the sorts of things you tend to attach to, and the things that tend to bother you.
One reason some people don’t engage is that the first episodes of the first series (Riders of Berk) can feel childish in tone with low stakes. It is to note that the adventures and stakes do grow from the start. The animation levels also drastically improve from start to end… it’s a wild difference to compare the first episode of Riders of Berk with the finale of Race to the Edge.
Another reason is that the shows are not about the dragon characters. There will be the introduction of many cool dragon species like the Death Song, Scauldron, or Thunderdrum, but the shows aren’t about the humans connecting with their dragon friends. They do not focus on the dragon characters. So don’t go here for Hiccup and Toothless dynamics. There’s a few feelsy moments to talk about, but not many; Toothless is mostly a background character as the stories focus on the humans instead.
Next, some people feel like the characters are “dumbed down” or written inconsistently, and while I wouldn’t phrase it exactly like that, there’s a point to be made there. Some audience members especially don’t like how Hiccstrid gets handled in the first half of RTTE, where they feel like the bumbling hesitant startings of romance is inaccurate to how the two would develop relationally. (It’s to note that another group of people fawn over the Hiccstrid dynamics). Others hate Heather, calling her a “Mary Sue” (a term I think should be retired from existence because it’s a pointless criticism word anymore, but anyway, some people feel like Heather is an Angst Child who takes too much screen time, and that’s a fair point too). Astrid sometimes feels too damsel-in-distress-y for me. As far as Hiccup? Well. Hiccup’s personality is presented a bit differently than you usually see in the movies. RTTE!Hiccup is some of my favorite Hiccup, but he is presented with a different flavor.
Next, some people say that the television series story is inconsistent, completely irreconcilable, with the events of the trilogy. I personally find the continuity blips minor at best, and similar to franchise blips that happen anywhere, but it’s your call, and it’s totally fine if you find the continuity irreconcilable. It’s your take! It’s your experience with the story! Things like Hiccstrid romantic development, whether or not Berk was at peace during the five year gap between HTTYD and HTTYD 2, whether or not Hiccup knew anything about Bewilderbeasts, and whether or not Hiccup had run into other dragon riders before Valka… well… the television series will present something different than you might have presumed from movie material alone. This HIGHLY irritates some people, as it can feel like it sabotages the efficacy of certain moments in the films. For other people like me, it’s an entire non-issue. All is all fair because we engage with media in different ways! Here’s the issue just so you know: you can make your call about whether or not continuity questions will bother you.
Last, the plot. The first two television series, the plot is straightforward and fine. For RTTE, the plot is not the best presented. I think the first two seasons start out GREAT, but then it gets increasing issues. It’s for this reason that some people like ROB and DOB but aren’t engaged with RTTE. There’s a lot of fun to be had in it, and there’s many points at which I was fully engaged. In many ways, RTTE does some things BEST of the whole series. BUT. It doesn’t take much observation to realize there are logic gaps, motivation questions, convoluted but repetitive plot twists, some eyebrow-raising unrealistic moments, and instead of showing smooth characterization, people have a tendency to suddenly jump forward or shift in spurts. If you’re someone who gets invested in a show primarily for long-term plot arcs, you might get irritated at decisions in RTTE. But if you’re someone who’s willing to go along for the ride and just have fun and take it for what it is, RTTE has an entertaining story with lots of adventure.
For me? The television series is a blessing and COMPLETELY worth the watch. But I hope this discussion of pros and cons can make your decision best for you!
So! With all that said! What order should you watch them in? The order that they were released:
Riders of Berk
Defenders of Berk
Race to the Edge
Riders and Defenders of Berk are not on Netflix and you’ll have to go elsewhere to watch them. Race to the Edge got released on Netflix and is still available there… though all the shows have been released on DVD by this point.
I highly encourage you to watch the shows start to end as they came out because of plot reasons. RTTE especially needs to be watched in episode order, but RTTE makes sense only in the context of you seeing ROB and DOB first. There are filler episodes, but there are overarching plots. If you went straight into Race to the Edge first, you’d have no idea who the Helheim Heather and Dagur are, and why it’s important to run into them.
I hope this helps you and any others considering the shows! It’s so much more dragons dragons dragons dragons dragons and I hope that, if you watch, you have just as much of a blast as I did!
