What do you think is going to happen in the season seven finale?
Firstly, thank you for sending this and sorry it took so long to answer! Iām struggling to find the time to interact in this fandom the way I used to unfortunately. Answer under the cut because I am incapable of being either brief or concise š
I think itās hard for me to distinguish between what I want to happen and what I think will happen so this answer might end up being a bit of bothĀ š
I think that the ending scene is going to be very hard hitting, since weāve seen the trend develop over the seasons from the initial āhaha funnyā drunken Rick rant while Morty suffers, to both Rick and Morty being equally excited, to Rick starting to realise heās shitty and to heal, and finally back full circle to having Rick drunkenly rant at an unenthusiastic Morty but this time played straight and with Morty realising the horror of Rickās abuse but still not being able to break free.
Iāve seen people mention the idea of having an equivalent ending scene with Prime and Morty instead of C-137 and Morty which I think would be very interesting, especially if we do get more exploration of Mortyās character and his perspective on his relationship with Rick in the broader sense of Ricks in general, rather than just with C-137. I think the show does a very good job of using sci fi concepts such as clones or different dimensions to explore characters and their relationships and I think it would be very cool to have this with Morty and Prime. However, I donāt know if the Prime stuff will develop that quickly, especially if heās intended to be the big bad of the latter half of the whole series. Equally, Prime could turn out to be only a small piece of the bigger puzzle and maybe heāll become relatively insignificant compared to other plot elements. Only time will tell I guess.
I think the most common complaint about S6 (from this corner of the fanbase at least) was the lack of Morty, so I hope this is something that gets addressed in S7 and that his character gets a turn in the limelight. At the same time, I appreciate that the show is trying their best to build off of pre-existing canon but also to complete a big tonal shift so I have faith that Morty will get his time to shine, especially since his dynamic with Rick was explored more in the final two episodes (and at the end of Analyse Piss). I definitely want to see the complexities of Mortyās feelings towards Rick and his family as a whole and Iām excited in particular for the Morty and Summer episode that seems to be about the mindblowers - we havenāt really had an exploration of the way Morty feels about Summer getting all these privileges. After all, heās always tried to protect Summer from Rick and be a good brother despite being the youngest but now Summer is working with Rick and becoming like him. She also has that sort of power over him when it comes to the mindblowers, which is played for laughs in the episode itself but Iām interested to see them explore the darker side of this - after all, Summer is aiding Rick with editing Mortyās memory, and she clearly has a fair bit of power and control over this, given that Rick trusts her to restore both of their memories and wander down there at her leisure. Mortyās Mindblowers definitely marks a whole new era of Rickās manipulation of Morty, where we start to truly see just how much Rick is deliberately and intentionally controlling Mortyās perceptions and memories.Ā Ā Iāve spoken before with @hazelnut-u-out about how mindblowing is very much a metaphor for gaslighting - Rick is influencing what Morty remembers and how he remembers it, not only removing memories he doesnāt want but even editing them so Morty has no hope of ever getting the true memory back even if Rick does allow him to keep any of the memories permanently. Itās not hard to draw the parallel between this and the way that trauma can permanently shape the way you view things, even if you are able to remember them or process them. However, Summer is clearly aware of this and seemingly makes no effort to stop it or tell Morty. Obviously she is also being manipulated by Rick (āI donāt get paid enough for this shitā), but sheās still involved and I can imagine that affecting their relationship a lot. I would like to hope that this episode has Summer choosing to tell Morty and trying to heal, but I wouldnāt be surprised if he finds the room accidentally and is discovered by her instead of Rick, or maybe theyāre forced to take shelter from something and Summer takes them into the mindblowers room since itās the only safe place, leading Morty to question how she knows the room exists and has a key to it.
On a lighter note, we had better see Birdperson again (and hopefully his daughter). I would definitely love Rick having to help look after her and she absolutely hates him.
Iām very excited for S7 and I wonder how much my thoughts on this will change when the trailer drops Monday but these are my thoughts for now!

Batman's Mightiest Adventure (Movie Outline)
This is another outline for a movie set in the cinematic universe I've been plotting out, this one technically outside of the universe proper until the Crisis on Infinite Earths event, instead part of a series of animated films focused on more Golden Age heroes and villains.
The movie begins with our Batman and Robin, both very heavily based on Adam West and Burt Ward, in the middle of yet another battle with their villains. Likewise, these villains (Joker, Penguin, Catwoman, and the Riddler) are heavily based on their actors from the old show. The battle has a lot of comic flare in the sense of big animated POWS! and ridiculous bat-based weapons. In the end, Batman and Robin win, and the baddies get away.
The scene zooms out and we get to see a little imp from another dimension dressed in a Batman costume. He nerds out over Batman, using a remote to switch between various Batman universes. He does lament, however, that the universe heād just been watching didnāt feature many of the later characters that appear in other worlds. Then he gets an idea (visualized by a literal lightbulb over his head).
We then cut back to our four villains sulking in their lair, annoyed by their latest loss and getting into interpersonal arguments because of it. A sudden burst of black smoke fills the lair, and a cloaked figure appears. This figure avoids giving his name, but tells them he wants to help them against Batman. He shows them a glimpse of all the other Batman universes, specifically scenes of all of Batmanās villains, from the Joker all the way down to Condiment King. He then uses his powers to bring them to life.
Batman and Robin are back at their mansion, having breakfast. Much like the Superman animated movie, I would like there to be a distinct visual difference to the characters (i.e. Clark had a scrawny nerd art design, but then Superman was the big top-heavy musclebound design with a big chin). For this distinction, I would like Bruce to have the snooty rich snob design to him, while Batman is a broody āLā type constantly in shadow. Likewise, Dick would have a teenage heartthrob vibe, while Robin would transform into a diminutive chibi-type. After a brief comedic scene between them, they get a call on the Bat Phone that the villains are up to no good again.
Our heroes rush to the bank where the villains are pulling off their heist. At first, they only see the main four again, and are taken by surprise by the army of other villains ambushing them. After a chaotic battle with lots of visual gags based on the various villains, Batman and Robin are defeated and retreat back to the Batcave.
As they are dramatically lamenting their loss, our imp appears, introducing himself as Bat-Mite, their biggest fan from the fourth dimension. He tells them he saw their last battle and says he wants to help. He shows them the same view of other universes, with hundreds of different Batmans, Robins, and other allies from all over the universe. Batman and Robin accepting his help, he brings them all to reality as well.
We cut back to city hall, where the Joker and his army of villains have the mayor, Commissioner Gordon, and everyone else important all tied up, and have a few deep-cut jokes between them all. The lights shut off, and Batman and Robin make a dramatic entrance, followed by their army of Batpeople. A war between the two sides ensues.
This war goes on for a while, with lots and lots of visual gags, but soon begins to spread its havoc over all of Gotham as the people flee in terror. Through all of this, we get the reveal of Bat-Mite and the mysterious figure being the hooded figure, and he laughs hysterically at the chaos, nerding out over all the different little battles going on.
Eventually, as Batman and the Joker are dueling in the middle of the city, they stop and notice all the carnage their war has caused on the city itself. They do a bunch of finger-pointing at each other until they both put together that they both received help from someone from an alternate dimension, and realize theyāve been played.
Bat-Mite is so busy having fun watching it all that he proves far too easy for Batman and the Joker to track down. The pair confront him and try to beat him, but he proves too slippery with his otherworldly powers. However, they notice he becomes annoyed whenever they act too friendly with each other, claiming itās out of character. They then start going on a rampage of acting completely out of character, roping in the rest of their allies to act in ways theyād never act until finally Bat-Mite breaks down in a tantrum about them breaking canon. Batman and the Joker then point out that he broke it too. The little imp sheepishly admits defeat and zaps all the characters he summoned back to their own universes. He tries to ask for an autograph before everyone tells him to get lost.
The final scenes are narrated by Bat-Mite, lamenting that he lost but saying it was fun while it happened, watching with annoyance as the six characters left behind hang out at a diner after the battle. He clicks over to a different universe and notices slight cracks forming between those universes, asking if he did that.
What do you think? I thought utilizing Bat-Mite here might be a fun twist, and give some fun visual appeal, while also working in a bit of meta-humor about fans and fandom. Next up, we return to the main universe for "Son of Batman."

Iām going to be 1000% honest here and say neither Lillie or Leonās episode (I know shocker, me not being excited about Leon appearing) really did anything for me. Pokemon Twilight Wings, PokeToons and Pokemon Generations are doing what Pokemon Evolutions did 100 times better. Like for me, both episodes have the issue of really just covering things we see in game but not in a transformative manner. The Darkest Day for Leonās episode and Lunala vs Necrozma are all scenes weāve seen in game some how and also the main anime. Iāll give Leonās episode credit in that it highlighted his trauma and the weight of being the Galarian champion in ways the games neglected to do so, via sparse hints through optional text. Leon desperately needs more blatant characterization that shows his complexities rather than using the whole āIām an unbeatable champion who is a Charizard fan and pants with directionsā we got for the majority of the game with the real things that make him the great character he is get shoved off to the side. But even then it still didnāt really wow me like how his Twilight Wings episode did.Ā
And Lillieās didnāt really offer anything new we havenāt seen if we played SM or USUM. I think it wouldāve been nice to see Lillie in the Rainbow Rocket castle fighting alongside Selene or even teaming up with her at the battle tree with Red or Blue (with flashbacks to her journey to save Nebby) to show how farās she gone. Or if we wanted to, use SM Lillie (the better plot her IMO) and have her recollect all of those things while sheās in Kanto starting her own journey.Ā Like at least with Generations if there was something that copied the games a lot of the time there was still an extra element. Like seeing Gabby and Ty, the reporters and how they were getting information and it just so happened to show us the Rayquaza and Deoxys fight from ORAS. Like yeah weāve seen the fight in game but the addition of Gabby and Ty added an extra dimension. We got to see two not that well known NPCs working, but also adding some worldbuilding to how journalism works in the Pokemon World. Not to mention how the scientist at the end was likeĀ āthe world is not readyā again hinting at potential coverups on some legendary and mythical Pokemon.Ā And as much as everyone knows how much I adore Leon, considering his brother hasnāt even gotten a chance to really show his story, I think I wouldāve like to have seen Hop more. Or Bede or Marnie both of whom had storylines that were neglected. And again with Lillie this is even worse since she gets so much screentime already in games when there were other characters who should get fleshed out. Like an evolutions episode focused on Hau or Guzma wouldāve been so much better since they got shafted hard despite being important characters and their presence giving a lot of context to Alolan culture as a whole. Like Blueās episode in Generations, and Nessa and Oleanaās episodes in Twilight Wings were leagues better in my opinion as we got to get focus on characters who didnāt get much in their respective games.Ā
Getting to see how Blue went through the elite four while also giving us some hints to his feelings about being Oakās grandson and getting a chance to know that getting 8 badges is a monumental task that very few in Kanto could do, showing that Blue was just as much of a child prodigy as Red? Amazing. It gives justice to a character whose development was pretty much solely offscreen especially compared to later rivals.
Seeing the struggles hinted at with Nessa managing her gym and her status as a model in real time while also giving us hints to the league ranking matches with the brief shots of her match versus Milo, her relationship with Sonia, as well some more insight into how Rose can come off in unsettling ways while trying his hardest to do good by Galar? Perfection. It gives us a chance to see an amazing character with only a minor role in game and itās something I wish we couldāve seen for all of the Galar gym leaders. Seeing Oleanaās background before being Roseās assistant, showing how much of a great help she is to Rose, showing how much she has to put up with a daily basis, while also giving us glimpses to more hinted events (like Melony and Gordie fight and again showing different dimensions to Rose once again further developing his character in a way the games neglected? Outstanding. Again things that couldāve been added to the game to make the whole Macro Cosmos plot a lot better. But at least weāre seeing it.Ā Obviously as these are shorts there is only so much storytelling that can be done. But I think Iām going to be looking forward to the episodes like Leaf/Greenās, Zinniaās or Barryās more as weāll be getting a chance to see characters whose inner workings are more neglected by the narrative and could use the extra spotlight. Or just do a Poketoons and show us the Pokemon world in a light for people who are just average citizens. There is just so much worldbuilding that could be covered in shorts and just choosing to animate things weāve seen if we have played the games without any extra worldbuilding, even if the animation is done superbly.Ā

World Revelations
@etherealsxnderā
Warnings; spoilers for season 13, mentions of death, angst, lack of hope, some Alex Calvert x reader, and tiny bit of jack x reader, swearing, brief illusions to sex, angry brothers, mentions of a sex scene, insecurities, online hate, protective winchester brothers, apocalypse world, major character death, lucifer
(Y/A/N) ā Your Acting Name.
A/N; itās a little bit different from the request, so sorry about that, but I hope that any one that reads this enjoys. Also sorry about the wait, I had bad writers block, but when I started writing this it sorta figured itself out and I may have got carried away. Feel free to tell me what you think āŗļø
āLook, I am not going to some other world to help stop Michael. But I can help you in another way, one where none of us get harmed.ā Gabriel shrugged, reducing Samās expression to confusion. The archangel had felt like their last hope at retrieving their mother, into delving into the apocalypse world, and here he was, turning him down.
Ā He had tried his very best to make the celestial being better, and here he was, talking again, able to use his grace rather than have it removed and syringed into a demonās veins. However, he still refused, and the hunter had no other plan in forcing Gabriel into helping. This was the last shot, and it had been blown.
Ā But however could he still help? This was the primary problem that had to be solved, there was no other route they could take to bring their family back together. And that was all that mattered in this life, saving people, remaining together.
Ā āWhat are you talking ab-ā Before Sam could complete his question, Gabriel set him with a poised glare, and snapped his magical fingers, a spark of electric blue grace sparking from the action. That was all Sam saw before he felt himself transported, and once he opened his eyes, he remained in the bunker, however there were cameras around him, and an entire filming crew.
Ā Gabriel had sent him to the other life, another world in which he presumed that he was called Jared. āWhat the hell Sammy?ā Dean barked from beside him, twisting and turning his sights around, upon realising that although this looked like their home, it was an alternate version of it. A set, made of fake walls and truthless literature that was not at all necessary in this peaceful, monster-less realm. āSon of a bitch!ā
Ā āCut!ā One of the cameramen called out, shaking his head exasperatedly at the line said wrong. Jensen had been doing so well, and Jensen seemed to have slipped far too into character, to the point where he had forgotten his lines. āDo you need to see the script again, or would you rather take a short break?ā
Ā āIāll go for the break.ā Dean confirmed, grabbing Samās forearm and hastily dragging him from the onlookers, and towards which he assumed was his, well, Jensenās trailer. It looked pretty much the same as last time. āGabriel?ā He asked, rightly assuming that the blame of this mishap ordeal was down to the glowing figure.
Ā āHe refused to help us open a rift.ā Sam licked his lips, his eyes jutting around the luxurious space. āAnd then he snapped his fingers, and we were here.ā Here, another earth. However this was not their home, it was a disfigured writing of it, if anything, it was worse than the books Chuck wrote. There were more fans, and more complications that came along with being here in place of the actors.
Ā āWe donāt have time for his tricks.ā Sighed Dean, raking his hair with his rough hand. āParading around as a painted whore is not on my agenda, all I care about is getting mum back, we have to get home quick.ā
Ā āDean, I donāt think that this is a trickā¦ā Sam spoke to his elder brother, in thought of Gabrielās words. āHe said he could help us in another way. I donāt think he meant taking us away from the problem, there must be something else.ā No matter how much he rolled the idea around his head, he could come to no conclusion.
Ā āWhat?ā There was already plenty on the manās mind, he didnāt need another incident coming their way. Dean was to begin speaking again, until a knock rapped against the door to his doubleās trailer, intruding his mindset. Him and Sam shared a glance and frown until Dean called whomever was on the other side in, and to their dismay, he looked exactly like Castiel.
Ā Misha Collins. Last time they had visited this place, he had died, but the return of the real selves must have somewhat fixed the timeline, he looked well, even if he still was dressed as their angelic friend. āHey, I was seeing if you are ready for the scene tomorrow.ā
Ā āScene? Which scene?ā āJaredā asked the colleague of his false identity, unaware of the context in which Misha spoke in. Dean only huffed and rolled his eyes, until Misha spoke, and he froze, both the brothers understanding Gabrielās meaning for sending them to this world.
Ā ā(Y/N)ās death scene. Apparently itās gonna be quite emotional, and itāll be strange after, not having the kid on set anymore.ā It was a revelation, a nightmare that foreshadowed the truth in their own dimension.
Ā āThanks uh- Misha.ā āJensenā rubbed his hand over his face, shocked by the oncoming doom. They had already lost far too many members in their makeshift hunter family, but this was different. This was their sister, whom they had protected and vouched to continue doing since the day she was born. And now the universe had this grand plan of cutting her young life short, and sending her to either heaven or hell, where so many people they loved already were.
Ā āDo you know where um, (Y/A/N) is right now?ā Sam asked, desperate to somehow convince her to remain on the show. It was the only way in which he could save his younger sibling, and he would, by the gods, do anything that he possibly could. Him and Dean had already had meetings with death himself, he couldnāt allow the new version to come and take you.
Ā Billy would not compromise, she was intent on having a Winchester under her cloak, forever taken from life, never to return to the living. And they couldnāt take a chance, any chance on not getting (Y/N) back, she was a legacy as were they, but she was supposed to live on for longer. Their names would otherwise be nothing more than memories in the world of hunters, until they faded into distant and dead members of the community.
Ā āIn her trailer, I think. Sheās rehearsing with Alexander I think.ā The name that he mentioned was unfamiliar to the unfitting pair, but they spared no thought to it. Instead they sent him a quick smile before leaving the confines that they felt trapped in, and began their search for the actress of their sister.
Ā āWe have to change her mind Sammy. If she stays on the show, then our (Y/N) lives. It is the simplest solution.ā Dean spoke as they walked through the lines of trailers, unable to find the name that they were searching for on any door. āWhere the hell is her damn trailer?ā
Ā Sam squinted, until a name he had heard was seen on one of the doors. Alexander, whoever that was. Before he could even put any thought into his actions, he subconsciously knocked on the door, waiting a moment for an answer. And when the door opened, they were met with who looked like Jack, his hair a mess, and his shirt hanging over his shoulder, clearly put on in panic.
Ā āWhatās up guys, need something?ā He scratched the back of his neck, impatient with the situation, considering the one that he had been interrupted from. A part of him feared that this was one of Jaredās infamous pranks, he had mostly been on the end of shifted lines, but worse could have been heading his way for all he knew.
Ā Dean frowned at the sight of young man, it hardly felt right seeing the innocent boy that they knew with sex hair and slight bruises upon his neck. He cleared his throat, keeping up his expression, as he spoke to the boy. He had softened up to Jack, he was their kid in some ways, but this was no Nephilim, if anything it was worse, it was a man who impersonated they kid.
Ā āHeard that uh, (Y/A/N) was running lines with you. Yāknow where she is?ā Alexās eyes shifted slightly inside of his personal space, before everything was given away by a familiar giggle. It sounded the exact same as the one that often left (Y/N)ās mouth. Dean knew it, he would never be capable of mistaking it.
Ā The noise had renegaded in his ears since she had been born, in the impala as John drove, through the halls of the bunker as her and Sam made jokes about his cholesterol. At the worst of times, before he knew that they existed, he liked to think that it was the voice of angel, she always guided him on the right path, and if she were to disappear from his life, he would sorely lose the track that he was hellbent on walking down.
Ā And he could see her face now, as she tugged the sheet over her body. A frown sculpted her expression, as she looked exasperatedly between Alex whom had tried to lure the tall pair from the confines of his trailer, and the intruders who had barged carelessly in. It wouldnāt have mattered so much if her and Alexander had actually been running lines, however the situation explained more than enough of the fact that they indeed were not.
Ā āJared, Jensen, can you like, I donāt know, not cockblock me, for once in your elderly lives?ā It felt peculiar, for both Sam and Dean. They knew that this was not their sister, but her calling them by other names was so foreign. Their skins crawled at the labelling, and it only reminded them farther of their cause, the reason that they were sent by an angelic being to be here in this very moment.
Ā āI am also getting bored of it.ā Alexander tilted his head, in agreement with (Y/A/N), who only grinned at his compliance to suit her opinions, and Dean could only roll his eyes, just like he did with Jack the majority of the time. āBut itās cool, but can we hurry this along, I mean not to be rude, but arenāt you guys supposed to be filming a scene in like five minutes?ā
Ā Sam cleared his throat, admittedly he did like Jack. The kid was sweet, however this was not him, it rather was a man who pretended to be a Nephilim for payment, and was bedding the doppelganger of his sister. If he were to see his sister and the devilās child in such a compromising predicament, most people would assume heād be the calm sibling, but theyād be wrong. He would go mad, and think of a way to keep the pair separate.
Ā But luckily for them, there had never been such adult situations insinuated between their dear (Y/N) and Jack, or at least not that they were aware of. This riled Dean, and so he couldnāt help but feel like exploding. It angered him that any man had laid their bare and lustrous hands upon his youngest sibling. No one was to have that pleasure, she was supposed to remain innocent, even if she were legal.
Ā āSeriously?! Jack of all people?!ā He bellowed at (Y/A/N), shaking his head at their obvious exchange. If (Y/A/N) had any clothes on underneath the white sheet that hugged her body as she lay on the sofa, her instincts would have driven her over to Jensen and her palm would have met the side of his stubbly face.
Ā āFirst of all, you need to start remembering Alexās name, and that goes for Jared too. You canāt just keep calling him Jack, even after Iām done here and move onto my next project.ā Her words, although not having the intent to, had the effect of triggering Samās goal, in-deliberately reminding him of their foremost goal. It was not to get angry at the characters that played them and their loved ones, it was to save someone that was incredibly important to their world.
Ā āAnd second,ā the woman in covering continued, āthis isnāt exactly going to get me to stay on the goddamn show, if you barge in here, interrupting our privacy. If you donāt like what me and Alex are doing off screen, you sure arenāt going to like what is gonna go down between (Y/N) and Jack. Sometimes I do swear that youāre just like Sam and Dean.ā
Ā The jab she made at them struck nerves, but they knew that this was not the real her. It may have looked like (Y/N), but this was only a woman who played the part of her. āWeāve been trying to make you stay on the show?ā Sam asked, his voice soft. He didnāt want to be harsh, she was already uncomfortable enough.
Ā It was her unknowing that they were actually Sam and Dean that could be an element that they could use, a tool of convincing. āYes, for weeks now.ā (Y/A/N) sighed, pinching the point that was between her eyebrows. āAnd Iām getting tired of it, and overall, this character. Iāve played her for years on end, I think that her story should have a finishing point, a finale. Iām ready for bigger and brighter things, something that is not pretending to be a strong woman on set, and as soon as I walk away from the cameras, I go back to being weak.ā
Ā āI think youāre going to have to explain a little more if Iām going to get any of that.ā Dean prompted, both him and Sam had turned away, giving the actress in the sheets the privacy to change. The shuffling of fabrics could be heard, they had been in worse situations with their sister, small motel rooms, of which they could usually only afford one in the past, helped nobody. And none of them received the personal space that should have been an outright human right.
Ā āOf course neither of you understand.ā Alex sighed, āshe wants a smaller workspace, one where there arenāt so many eyes on her. The whole ordeal got out of hand, and now there are people online saying terrible things about her and I. Neither of you have made such a mistake, or had something so sacred and personal leaked on the internet. The things people say really digs in deep, she at least wants a break, canāt you understand that?ā
Ā āWait, what got leaked?ā Samās curiosity often informed him of things that he did not wish to be aware of, and this was one of their instances. Alex huffed and rolled his eyes, walking over to where (Y/A/N) was now fully clothed, and took a seat on the sofa beside her, their eyes meeting and mirroring smiles shining at one another.
Ā The sight admittedly made Sam smile, but it made Dean feel internally sick. The sight of what looked like their sister and Jack fuelled a fire inside of him, he wanted his eyes to burn and the memory to be forever removed from his sights.
Ā āLook, you play a pretty badass character, although Iād say Dean has a bit more kick to him.ā The man himself chuckled, but no one joined in, so he continued through a forced smile, coming to sit down next to Alex, his ignorance to what happened there merely minutes ago encouraging his brother to cringe.
Ā āBut thatās not my only point, youāre here, whilst those sad souls that sit behind their computers all day waste their time typing crap. The life you have, the family that you have here, is worth more than the opinions of a few, invisible idiots, who are only jealous of everything that you have earned for yourself. Donāt breathe their toxicity win, because if you do, the bad guys win, and then you will only fade out of the spotlight and theyāll forget all about you, and all of the things they ever posted about you.ā
Ā Alex had been understanding through all of (Y/N)ās decision to leave the cast, although to begin with he had tried to convince her to stay. And it seemed out of all of them, it was Jensen that made her reconsider her options, he could see it behind her eyes, the unravelling of interest, the flickering of hope.
Ā The only thing that the younger actor could not tell were that these were not Jensenās words, they fell from the lips of Dean Winchester himself. A character that he knew of, and was an important symbol on the show that he was cast on. But it did not matter if he was not aware of that snippet, because it changed nothing, other than possibly (Y/A/N)ās mindful decision.
Ā āYou know what, youāre right Ackles. Itās not often that I say that, but the thought of leaving everyone here, settling for something that I have no connection to or history with, it is undermining. And Iām going to talk to Kripke, heāll be over the moon with the consideration, however if he chooses that (Y/N) is to die as was planned due to my indecisiveness, then that shall be the battle that I am to bargain with.ā They had won (Y/A/N) over, it was victory.
Ā It was also the closest that they could do by themselves to save (Y/N). If this didnāt work, they would be nothing more than Johnās broken tools, defined by all those that they were always mourning. And it would only make their sister another name on that sour list, even if her death would pain them substantially more than others.
Ā āI guess weāll go then.ā Sam awkwardly spoke, encouraging Dean to stand from the christened furniture and join him in leaving the sexually active couple alone. He sent the woman a nod, and Alex a raised eyebrow. He would have Jackās head if he ever thought he had the guts or wings to be so intimate with their sister, heād make him feel something, and it would be painful. Torturous even.
Ā They shut the door behind them as they departed from the actors, a smirk on Deanās face. He felt victorious, he was the same hero that would read (Y/N) stories when it was dark and a storm was thundering outside, as she hid under the duvet of some dingy motel bed, a torch protecting her from the enveloping bleakness, but also her brothers. āIād call this a win.ā
Ā āThey said about a videoā¦ā Sam had Jaredās phone in his hand, he scrolled through the feed with a wrinkled nose and scorned eyes. After he received an answer to what it was concluding, he put the device away, he could never look at Jack and (Y/N) around each other the same again. It was burdened by the facts of this world, contradicting the innocence that both the kids in their world showed. āIt was a leaked sex scene of the show, Dean.ā
Ā āHeck no!ā Growled the elder brother, shaking his head. The instant images that flashed through his mind of the Nephilim atop of his little sister made his teeth grit in anger, and a pit of queasiness fold in the cave of his stomach. He already wasnāt too sure on Luciferās spawn, this only enhanced that formed opinion, and he wished to shoot the child more than ever in this instant, even if the real him was not around.
Ā āTheyāre not actually the people we know Dean.ā Sam comforted him, easing his anger, but only slightly. āNothing like that has happened between them, he is in another world, whilst (Y/N) is in the bunker, reading lore and trying to find a way to bring mum and Jack back to us.ā
Ā āYet Sammy, nothing has happened yet.ā He allowed himself to shut his eyes for a second, and the next thing that he knew, he was returned home. His speech must have worked on the employee of the show Supernatural, otherwise, Gabriel surely would not have returned them to their home world.
Ā Ā āHeās gone, for chuck sake. How are we supposed to bring Jack and Mary back if we donāt have archangel grace?!ā The stressed voice of their younger sibling often triggered a debate from the brothers, but seeing and hearing her, it was a miracle. They couldnāt waste time and argue, instead Sam lurched forward, grabbing the girl and bringing her into the embrace of his giant like arms.
āWeāll figure it out (Y/N/N), we always do.ā He spoke softly, earning a confused yet pleased smile. The hug had come out of nowhere, but it calmed her nerves, the rushing of the blood that hurtled around the veins of her body slowed, and it gave her a moment of peace, a blank mind before she began researching again.
Ā āI have a question.ā Dean stated with his gruff tone, squinting at his female sibling. He suppressed a smile, she was oblivious to the blockade that had rested above her head like a raincloud, but he knew that she was here for good. And that she was not leaving to any sort of afterlife any time soon. āDo you have the hots for Jack?ā
Ā (Y/N)ās eyes went wide, however she forced a scoff to hide the shock and cover up anything that her brothers could pick up on. She released herself from Samās hold, taking a couple of simple steps backwards, so that she could have a clear view of the expressions that both of them wore. āAre you seriously asking me that at a time like this?ā Her sentence was finished with a sigh and a roll of her eyes.
Ā But her brothers knew their sister well enough, and that she indeed did not want to admit something to them. (Y/N) was much easier to read than (Y/A/N) was, they had known this growing woman since the day that she was born, the same day in which John rescued the shrieking baby from a mother that was fed and eaten by wolves. She would have been next, however the hunter saved her, as was in his job description, but he couldnāt bare to let her stream through the system.
Ā He felt an attachment to her, and looking at her was practically the same as the notion of peering at one of his boys. She was to be a Winchester, he hadnāt decided it, but God himself did. The universe worked in mysterious ways, it was as though it was all written out for the family, but this instant, none of them minded. It gave the boys another reason to fight, another person to love, and eventually another family member to lose.
Ā But it had been evaded this time, Gabriel had although not helped them with reaching their mother and the son of Kelly Kline, however, he had somewhat saved (Y/N) himself. Without his trickster interference, theyād have never known of her doomed fate, or have been able to fix it.
Ā āIāll take that as a yes.ā Dean was smug with being right, as he always was. Overall though, he was more pleased to know that they had stopped the crumbling of the bottom of the family tree, they had protected their sister, literally to the ends of the world.
Ā āPick up a damn book and help me, Iām not doing all of this research by myself.ā Another sign that he was indeed correct, changing the subject, how original. But neither of the brothers, more so Dean than Sam, even wanted to try and switch the mindset that (Y/N) had about the boy. They were allowed to have feelings, romantic and so on, and their sister appeared happy with the tether that was from her heart to Jackās.
Ā Ā Ā The vampires were almost mutated. This apocalypse world had really taken a toll on all life. Michael of this plain had destroyed everything that was known to be true, even living itself. The habitat of these morsal creatures was dark, and disgusting. Humans had already tried to pass through the deadly lair to reach the other side, to get to the rebellion camp, however, no one had survived to the opposite end of things.
Ā (Y/N) felt hopeless, even as she walked through the home of the starving monsters. She had never been a fan of vampires, no hunter was, but this was cruel to every extent. They didnāt even appear as human anymore, their fates had been cursed by this ruined land. Without the world that was in her own, they would be worse off, everything in this dimension was.
Ā Everyone of their company was on edge, Dean ensured that he kept a sturdy eye forward, looking for any light. He knew (Y/N) would have to be okay, it was paved for her to be so in the other universe, sheād be fine. Of course, he still worried, that was what he did in retrospect, all day, every day, he worried that it was to be someoneās last.
Ā And he was right, as the monsters crept from the dark, tasting the scent of rushing blood in the air. They had lured them from their slumber, and they began to attack, dragging one of the travellers towards their death, where they would be fed on until he was completely drained. (Y/N) swung her machete, beheading one of the animals without a second glance, but perhaps she should have spared another look on the side, as she was a target.
Ā She was the prey to what she was raised to hunt, it wrapped its clawed hand around her leg like a coil, dragging her to the ground, and feasting its teeth into her supple flesh. This was it, there was no route away from her fate, and her body was already weak from blood loss, and so she gave up, and refused to fight. Her body was dragged into the abyss of the nest, and its members followed after her.
Ā Sam noticed their apparent glee, they had yet again prized food from them. He looked around to see whom it may be, and he was aghast with the sight. (Y/N) had her eyes shut as her limp form was being taken by vampires, and he froze, traumatised by the sight. And his surprised and hurt stature gave another of the beasts the perfect opportunity to rip into the rubber of his neck, and relish in the unstoppable river of blood that poured out from the fatal wound.
Ā āNo!ā Dean cried out, noticing that his sister too had disappeared. Before he could follow after the menaces and get vengeance, and possibly save his family from being the meal of savages, Castiel grasped his arm, pain rendering in the blueness of his vesselās eyes.
Ā āTheyāre gone Dean.ā His words rang through the hunterās head. This was his worst nightmare. Gabrielās warning had not helped at all, because (Y/N) was dead, and so was Sam. He forced himself to trudge on, pained like no other time before. Sam had died before, but he had always found a way to retrieve him back into life, and even through his tragic absence, he always had (Y/N). Now, the only other Winchester was his mother, who also needed to be saved from this damned world.
Ā Ā Ā āThink about it Sammy, Jack is going to be so pleased to see you alive, but your little sis, well, Iām sure that is going to be one hell of a reunion between them.ā Lucifer smirked, he was in Nickās body again, using it as a vessel. āAnd heāll think of me as a saviour, a knight that saved his princess from a terrible fate.ā
Ā The fallen archangel always had ulterior motives, and Sam realised that he had no choice in whether heād rather remain dead, or be used as a bargaining chip by the devil himself. His interest in Jack was not exactly pure, it was clear to the man that he sought the backup, the power of his biological son. His intent was to creep into the boyās mind, and decipher for the kid the difference between wrong and right.
Ā āThatās what you want, to lie to him about who you are?ā He couldnāt exactly say he was surprised, even more so that the audience of vampires were seething to break free from Luciferās force. He wasnāt even supposed to be here, he should have been in the bunker, his grace feeding away at Rowenaās spell, and keeping the gate open for their return.
Ā āIāll just bend the truth to fit the story, and I care about my son. As you care about your dear sister, and it would be a shame if she were not to wake, and then the news will have to be delivered to my boy, and Iām sure that would just break his half and half heart.ā The celestial being, the epidemy of evil tutted at the thought, only to send Sam a mischievous smirk afterwards. āYou donāt want him to be like me, but without her, heāll be in so much pain that he wonāt think about his actions. If he has (Y/N/N), then that choice will be entirely up to him, and what he believes in, yada yada yada.ā
Ā The sight of his sister covered in her own blood, motionless on the ground, bite marks on her shoulders and elsewhere drew out a desperation in Sam. He couldnāt not allow the villain to bring her back to life, and it seemed that no matter what he disputed, that Lucifer would do it anyway, to get himself in Jackās good books. And so he hung his head low, awaiting the personal enemy of his to resurrect the most important woman in his life.
Ā On first instinct, (Y/N) gasped in air. There was a lack of it rolling around the vitals of her lungs, but her breath was taken away once more, when she saw the looming of a horrifying figure, a first son of god. He was supposed to be, even if forced to do so by the traditions of magic, be at the bunker, revelling them with a way back. Rowena had been left there also, to keep the spell brewing, and a fearful eye on the hellish shadow.
Ā Assumingly, he had escaped his sentence, and for some reason, brought her to life. It was no mistake as to what the vampires had done to her, she could smell the spilling of her own blood over her thrifted and worn clothes, and it was gruesome. Although it was not the hunterās first time in being a sponge to her injuries, but nevertheless, she fought to stand beside Sam, who steadied her shaken feet, and balanced out the rest of her body by looping his supportive arm around her waist.
Ā āCome on.ā Lucifer rolled the human eyes that he wore like spectacles into the lives of the Winchesters, unimpressed by the slowness of the worldās large cockroaches. āWe have places to be and sons to meet.ā At his verbalised of clarity for his ungodly presence, (Y/N)ās body became rigid. His intent was to get to Jack, she couldnāt allow him to provoke a fire inside the boy.
Ā He was sweet and innocent, even harmless, despite the accident that had happened when he accompanied her and her brothers on a hunt. If Lucifer reached him, he would only try and navigate the darkness inside of him to be what it was, rather than try and make him change it into something brighter, something that was good, like Kelly would have wanted.
Ā āNo.ā (Y/N) refused, earning a frown from Sam and a elongated groan from Lucifer. She had died, it didnāt matter if she were to return to that fate, not if she stood by what she truly believed in. Nothing much would change, other than the vampires getting another meal from the same body, Dean already thought that she was extinguished from life, and the news would be passed on before any of them were to reach him.
Ā āOh, for crying out loud!ā The devil shook his wolfish head, Winchesters were always so stubborn. āIād allow it if Sam were to stand against the gift of life, Iāve seen what is inside of his head after all, but you! Youāre the priority here, you are Jackās weakness.ā This gesture of good faith seemed to be more than it was worth, but if she didnāt comply willingly, then he would force her to follow him along, and live.
Ā āWhereād you hear that from? He doesnāt have a weakness, he just has a good heart. Iām just another person that he lives with, a soldier that is going to fight anyone that dares to try and hurt him. And I wonāt mind if I have to give my life to try and kill you.ā She spat at the disgrace of heaven, hardly moved by his goal. As a Winchester, the stubbornness ran through her veins, even if the bloodline itself did not.
Ā āI hear things, and I did in that bunker. Like how Dean was speaking about you and Jackie boy, and how it all made sense. The shared looks, the flushed faces, all that gross stuff. He didnāt seem too happy with the circumstances, but he was content with the fact that you were alive, like you are again, because of me.ā
Lucifer was the last person that (Y/N) would thank for her existence, but she realised that there was no way out of his trap, she was the bait for Jack, that would reel the boy into theĀ wings of his dreaded father.
He could sometimes be so naive, that she feared that Jack would fall for the extension of kindness, one that hardly suited Lucifer. But that was up to him, and in this apocalyptic version of her world, anything could happen.
āSheās dead.ā Deanās voice was gravelly, it had been dragged through hope, and now the realisation that his baby brother and sister were lost to life. The eyes belonging to Jack widened, and tears began to form.
He could quite comprehend how he felt. There was a tearing in his chest, he felt as though he was being split apart, his breathing rapidly increased, and his eyes flared like the bursts of the sun.
Until whispers hit his ears, and he looked up, only to see the girl alive and well. He was not the only one relieved in the circumstances, Dean and Mary were too, but they feared the fact that Lucifer had joined them, and was being trailed by the bloodied siblings; the ones that he had saved for his selfish purposes.

Press: A Thorough Breakdown of All the Marvel Easter Eggs on WandaVision
POPSUGAR: WandaVision has finally arrived, and itās chock-full of hidden goodies for Marvel fans to devour! While the series is built upon a mystery that weāll be spending a reported nine episodes trying to figure out, the smallest details in each episode provide clues on where the show is heading. From supermarket banners to foreboding commercials, viewers have an abundance of references and callbacks to classic comic lore and pivotal MCU moments. Are they setting the stage for a big reveal at the end, or are they just fun details included for fans to enjoy? While we try to figure it all out, scroll through to see what weāve gathered! And check back every week for an episode-by-episode breakdown as WandaVision progresses.
WandaVision Episode 7 Easter Eggs
The episode opens the morning after Wanda has expanded the border of the Hex, finding the Avenger hiding from the world under her comforter. The comforter in question has a hexagon pattern, which is both a nod to the overall theme of the show as well as a metaphor for how Wanda is literally hiding away under a hex.
Billy and Tommy run into the room to reveal that their video game console has been messing up. Everything in the house is glitching, trying to transform back to earlier versions of themselves.
Billy also tells his mother that his head hurts and things are ānoisy.ā Since the twin inherited his motherās ability to read minds, it seems heās able to hear the thoughts of everyone in the bubble (and near it on the outside, since he was able to hear his father when he was dying). Itās a sign that Billyās powers are growing, which means we could see the little boy reach his Wiccan potential before the end of the season.
Wanda wanders into the kitchen as the news drones on in the background. The news station is called W.N.D.A. or Wanda. The newscaster makes pointed comments, noting that thereās ānot a thing weighing heavily on your conscience,ā and that they āhope your little ghosts arrived home safe last night. Itās always such a treat to see those creepy kiddos out and about once a year.ā The comments refer to Wandaās building guilt at her actions in the previous episode and the rare appearance of children during the Halloween episode.
As Wanda makes her breakfast of āSugar Snaps,ā a nod to the big Snap of the universe, her milk carton reverts from its modern design to the old school glass bottle and back. The carton has a missing personās ad on the back with a picture of a little boy on the back. This could be a reference to the oft-mentioned absence of children of Westview, and what could have happened to them.
Wanda and the twins ābreak the fourth wallā frequently to talk to the camera in the same vein as Modern Family.
This weekās theme song sounds similar to The Officeās, which also usings talking head segments like Modern Family. The opening credits are similar to the show Happy Endings and allude to the showās focus on Wanda, even attributing the creation of WandaVision to her with the title image. Vision is notably completely absent from the opening credits, but thereās a clue that someone else is watching in a message that reads, āI know what u are doing Wanda.ā
Agnes stops by to take the boys off of Wandaās hands, which the exhausted mother is exceedingly grateful for. The twins are visibly uncomfortable with the idea, with Tommy asking Wanda if they have to and Billy telling his mother that someone has to stay to take care of her. It seems like they can sense that something is off with their ākindlyā neighbor.
Wanda sends them off with Agnes, but once theyāre gone, her magic goes incredibly haywire. All the furniture begins glitching again, with the stork from the painting in episode three making a reappearance. āI donāt understand whatās happening,ā Wanda laments during a talking head segment. āWhy itās all falling apart and why I canāt fix it.ā The off-screen interviewer responds, āDo you think maybe itās what you deserve?ā which visibly unnerves Wanda, who notes that they arenāt supposed to speak. Itās another sign that Wanda does not have as much control as sheās been led to believe.
Cue the sixth commercial, and itās even more pointed than any of the others have been. Itās an ad for the antidepressant Nexus, for āwhen the world doesnāt revolve around you. Or does it?ā The drug allows people to anchor themselves to the reality of their choice with side effects that include āfeeling your feelings, confronting your truth, seizing your destiny, and possibly more depression.ā Whew, the pointed commentary is even making me sweat. Nexus is a nod to two things: Wandaās crippling inability to deal with the trauma sheās been through and her depression thatās pushed her into the creation of Westview, and two Marvel comics concepts. The first is the Nexus of All Realities is a kind of gateway point between dimensions from which all universes in the multiverse can be accessed. (Remember, Wandaās next reported appearance is in Multiverse of Madness.) The second concept is the existence of Nexus beings, people who have powers that can alter reality, probability, and the Universal Time Stream. Guess which two Westview residents are considered Nexus beings? Thatās right, Wanda and Vision! The commercial can either be just a cheeky nod to the coupleās seemingly infinite power or an allusion to the bigger picture that WandaVision is leading to.
While Darcy and Vision are attempting to make their way to the house, the doctor gives the synthezoid a brief rundown of his origin story, explaining how he died twice in an attempt to save the world. Vision points out that it seems like someone is trying to keep him from getting home, which spurs him to fly off, leaving Darcy behind in the blocked truck.
Billy and Tommy are watching Yo Gabba Gabba in Agnesās lowkey creepy home. (It tickles me that Yo Gabba Gabba is more canon in the MCU than the X-Men or Fantastic Four right now.) While Billy pets Agnesās bunny SeƱor Scratchy, he notes that he likes being around the older woman because heās unable to hear any of her thoughts. āYouāre quiet inside,ā he says, an allusion to the idea that Agnes can hide her thoughts from him because she has magic.
Back outside the Hex, after the super-rover isnāt able to penetrate the field, Monica decides to run through it again. As she struggles through the barrier and we watch her, a montage of dialogue from Captain Marvel plays. The voices of Maria, Nick Fury, and Carol play over Monica getting through, and as Captain Marvel says āwhen they were handing out little kids, your mom got the toughest one,ā Monica she pushes through to the other side. She lands in the stereotypical three-point-stance of all Marvel heroes, and her eyes glow, showing that she can see energy. We just witnessed the rise of Photon, folks! (Or Spectrum or Pulsar.)
Monica confronts Wanda in her home, and as their fight spills onto the lawn, the residents of Westview watch from their own homes. The delivery man is wearing a āPresto Deliveryā uniform, a reference to the magic words said by magicians before they pull a magic trick.
In the first blatant show of Agnesās ulterior motives, the older woman stops the fight when she realizes Monica is getting through to Wanda and pulls the young mother into her home. But when Wanda gets there, she notices the green bug and rabbit in the living room and the lack of her sonsā presence. When she asks Agnes where the boys are, sheās told to head to the basement, where the big showdown occurs. The scene hints at the eventual disappearance of Billy and Tommy.
Wanda notices a book on an altar, which could be the Darkhold, also known as The Book of Sins, The Shiatra Book Of The Damned. Originally a collection of papers known as the Chthon Scrolls, the book contains all the spells and ideas of the evil Elder God known as Chthon. The book is a conduit for Chthonās power and can open a doorway from Earth to Chthonās dimension. If that book is in Agnesās basement, it stands to logic that she may be working with the evil god. The Darkhold emits an orange glow, which is a distinctly different color than the purple of Agathaās magic.
Speaking of magic, Agnes finally reveals herself as the witch weāve known her to be. Although the show tells us that āitās been Agatha all along,ā it still doesnāt ring completely true. Thereās definitely more at work than just Agathaās magic.
In the mid-credits sequence, Monica is caught snooping in Agnesās backyard by Pietro. Her eyes seem to glow purple, the same color that signals Agathaās magic. Does this mean sheās now under the witchās spell?
Ā WandaVision Episode 6 Easter Eggs
The opening credits for episode six seem to be a tribute to Malcolm in the Middle, which ran for seven seasons between 2000 and 2006.
The entire Wanda and Vision family wear their comic book character costumes for Halloween.
Thereās another reference to Thanosās snap as Director Tyler Hayward talks about dealing with the repercussions of all the people āwho left.ā
The terrifying Yo-Magic commercial seems to foreshadow Visionās future. Even though Wanda was seemingly able to bring Vision back to life, it looks like he wonāt stay alive for long as itās implied that he canāt exist outside of the Hex later in the episode.
Blink and youāll miss the fun Disney movie Easter egg on Westviewās movie theater. The sign outside the theater shows a double feature of The Incredibles and The Parent Trap. Connecting right to Wandaās family, The Incredibles is about a family of superheroes, while The Parent Trap is about a pair of long-lost twins reuniting.
Wandaās changing accent has been brought up countless times by fans, and in episode six, Pietro makes a slight reference to it when Wanda asks, āWhat happened to your accent?ā to which he quips, āWhat happened to yours?ā
There is another reference that Agnes is actually Agatha Harkness as she is spotted wearing a witch costume on Halloween.
It appears that Vision has no memories pre-Westview, as a conscious Agnes tells him heās one of the Avengers, and he has no clue what sheās talking about.
The episode further hints at Monicaās powers as Darcy confirms that the Hex rewrote her cells on a molecular level.
A few interactions between Pietro and Wanda have fans wondering if he might actually be Mephisto in disguise. Not only is he fully aware about Wanda creating Westview, but he makes several references to the devil and hell throughout the episode.
Ā WandaVision Episode 5 Easter Eggs
Wanda and Visionās brand new house, suitable for a family of four, is reminiscent of homes in ā80s sitcoms such as Full House and Growing Pains.
When Agnes comes in to offer her babysitting help, she refers to herself as āAuntie Agnes,ā which is eerily close to her comic counterpartās nickname, Auntie Agatha.
An uncomfortable break in conversation leads Agnes to ask Wanda if she wants her to ātake it from the top.ā Though Wanda appears confused for a moment, she readily smoothes the conversation and carries on. Vision is visibly perturbed, though Wanda attempts to redirect his attention. It seems like the facade is fading all around.
To the surprise of their parents, Tommy and Billy age up five years while the two argue over Agnesās break in character.
This episodeās opening sequence shows Wanda and Vision growing up, which we know didnāt happen in real life for the synthezoid. The theme song sounds very similar to those from Family Ties and Growing Pains, and consists of lyrics noting that āweāre just making it up as we go along.ā Sounds pretty close to how things are going with Wanda and Vision!
When Wandaās scans come back, theyāre inconclusive and show up blank. Considering Monica gains her powers due to bombardment by extradimensional energies in the comics, itās entirely possible that the blast from Wanda back in episode three, coupled with passing through the forcefield around Westview twice, have given her those abilities. We could be seeing the rise of Photon!
While Jimmy Woo is explaining Wandaās backstory to the agents of S.W.O.R.D., Director Hayward asks if sheās ever used a āfunny nicknameā like the other Avengers. She hasnāt, in fact, sheās never been referred to as Scarlet Witch in the MCU ever. Since her powers are different from her comic book counterpart, thereās never been a reason for anyone to call her a witch.
That never-before-seen post credits scene from Infinity War has officially made its debut. Director Hayward reveals footage of Wanda entering S.W.O.R.D. headquarters to steal Visionās disassembled body. The video harks back to a moment in the comics where Vision was kidnapped and taken apart ā but still very much alive. Much like that Vision, the one in Westview has his memory wiped and doesnāt remember anything before he woke up in his new world. So, the question is whether Vision is actually alive or not. Wandaās hallucination from episode four might suggest heās a walking corpse, but thereās more to the story.
Jimmy mentions that Wandaās stealing of Visionās body violates the Sokovia Accords, which havenāt been mentioned since Captain America: Civil War. Unfunnily enough, the Accords were a direct response to the mission gone wrong in Lagos where Wanda lost control of her powers and caused the death of many civilians.
Darcy mentions that Vision is playing āFather Knows Best in Surburbia,ā referencing the ā50s sitcom.
Tommy and Billy find a dog that, with the help of Auntie Agnes, they name Sparky. The Vision family has a dog with that exact name in the King and Walta comics, but heās green. Sadly, he meets a similar fate as his live-action counterpart.
Wanda blatantly uses her powers in front of Agnes, who has seemingly handled the magic around her with ease. Itās almost as if sheās used to magic.
Darcy calls the Westview anomaly the āhexā because of its hexagonal shape. Although the magic has been taken out of the phrase, Wandaās powers are known as hexes in the comics.
Jimmy, Monica, and Darcy try to understand how Wanda can revive Vision and control the Hex, which takes much more power than sheās ever displayed before. Monica notes that Wanda has always been powerful, being the only Avenger who was close to taking down Thanos singlehandedly, which Jimmy interjects to note that Captain Marvel could as well. Both are empowered by Infinity Stones, with Carolās Kree biology giving her a power boost.
When Jimmy brings up Captain Marvel, Monica is visibly uncomfortable and changes the subject back to Wanda. What happened there?
Visionās office mates learn about the sweet glory that is dial-up internet! But when he and Norm open their first bit of electronic mail, itās a transmission picked up from S.W.O.R.D. talking about the Maximoff anomaly.
Vision breaks through Normās conditioning, revealing that heās under the control of a woman (alluding to it being Wanda). He directly references his family, a conversation that Jimmy mentioned in his notes in the last episode.
The twins have aged themselves up to 10 by this point and are seemingly completely aware that Wanda has control over certain aspects of life, like time. They point out that it was Saturday when they woke up, but Wanda says itās now Monday. She apparently changed the day to send Vision to work. Is their awareness because they also have magic or because she doesnāt control them?
Monica sends an ā80s drone into Westview after working out that Wandaās Hex is rewriting reality to suit each era occurring in the bubble, and the drone would need no era-appropriate change. Though she attempts to speak with Wanda through the drone, Director Hayward commands agents to fire a missile at Wanda instead ā directly ignoring that Monica said she doesnāt see Wanda as a danger. The action results in Wanda leaving the Hex and confronting the S.W.O.R.D. agents outside. Sheās wearing the suit we last saw her wearing in Infinity War and Endgame and has her accent back, although itās much thicker than itās been since Ultron.
Episode fiveās commercial is more pointed than any of them have been. Lagos brand paper towels directly reference the city in which Wanda accidentally killed several people in Civil War by blowing up a building. Thus, the Sokovia Accords were born.
While Wanda and the twins are searching for a missing Sparky ā with no one calling out the fact that Wanda disappeared for some time ā the mailman tells the boys that their mom āwonāt let him get far.ā It seems almost like a dig at how no one can leave Westview, like the doctor mentioned during episode three.
When Agnes reveals that Sparky died after eating too many azalea bush leaves, the boys ask their mother to reverse his death. Agnes seems particularly surprised by the idea of Wanda having that ability despite having seen other displays of her power and watching the twins age up rapidly twice. Wanda tells the twins that they canāt reverse death as there are still rules to things, which almost seems hypocritical considering her circumstances. Is she trying to say that she hasnāt revived Vision? Or is she simply trying to keep her boys from expecting too much from her?
Later that night, Vision reveals that he unearthed Normās repressed memories and demands to know whatās going on. He tells Wanda that she canāt control him, which she cooly responds asking him, āCanāt I?ā Although the credits start rolling, their argument continues as Vision unleashes his frustration with not knowing his past and his confusion over their circumstances. Wanda tells him that she doesnāt control everything, saying, āI donāt even know how all of this started.ā Vision believes it began subconsciously, but chastises Wanda for letting it get that far. Wanda reiterates that she isnāt controlling everything, which gives weight to the theory that thereās someone else behind the scenes. But who could it be if Wanda isnāt the āsheā that Norm was referring to?
Mid-argument, the Vision family doorbell rings, which Wanda states she didnāt do. Iām inclined to believe her because when she opens the door, she is genuinely shocked speechless. At the door is her ābrotherā Pietro, now sporting the face of Evan Peters. Darcy asks the question we were all thinking as the episode closes, āShe recast Pietro!?ā
Ā WandaVision Episode 4 Easter Eggs
This episode opens with the heartbreaking reveal that Monica Rambeau was one of the people lost to the Snapture from Infinity War. She returns from Endgameās Reverse-Snap in a hospital where she had been awaiting news after her mother Mariaās surgery.
As Monica is waking up, we hear familiar voices echoing in her head. Itās Captain Marvel calling her by her childhood nickname, Lieutenant Trouble.
As Monica weaves through the chaos of people reappearing in the hospital post-Reverse-Snap, she finally locates someone who recognizes her. Although Maria survived the surgery five years ago, she died from cancer three years ago in real time, having not been blipped with her daughter.
We finally have some information on S.W.O.R.D.! The acronym stands for Sentient Weapon Observation Response Division, rather than the meaning in Marvel comics, which is Sentient World. It sounds a little more ominous, right?
Mariaās badass legacy continues well past her friendship with Captain Marvel; according to S.WO.R.D.ās acting director, Tyler Hayward, Maria helped build the agency during its inception. She was the acting director until her death.
Tim gives Monica a mission to help out the FBI in the town of WestView, NJ, where something super freaky is going on with a missing personās case. This confirms that WestView is, indeed, a very real place.
Welcome back, Jimmy Woo! Monicaās FBI contact is none other than Scott Langās parole officer and semifriend, Agent Jimmy Woo.
Jimmy reveals that a person in witness protection has somehow dropped off the map in a town that no longer seems to exist where no one recalls anyone who lived there. In an attempt to figure out whatās going on, Monica sends in a S.W.O.R.D. drone that vanishes inside the forcefield. Itās revealed to have transformed into the retro-style helicopter that Wanda picks up in episode two! We can only assume that since itās an item from the outside world, it gained color when it entered Wandaās reality to show that it doesnāt belong.
Darcy Lewis is back! Now a doctor in astrophysics, Darcy is called to help figure out whatās gone wrong with WestView. Sheās the one who figured out a signal for the broadcast and is the owner of the hand we saw watching Wanda and Vision in episode one.
The mysterious beekeeper from episode two is revealed to be S.W.O.R.D.ās Agent Franklin, who journeyed through Westviewās sewers to investigate. His hazmat suit became a beekeeperās uniform, and the cable around his waist becomes a jump rope as he travels through the tunnels.
Darcy explains that the sitcom thatās become Wanda and Visionās life is literally being broadcast through the signals that S.W.O.R.D.ās viewing, with an audience and everything. Thereās no explanation for how this is happening, but Darcy and company watched those first three episodes just like we did, credits and all.
Darcy also points out that Vision is supposed to be dead-dead, which leaves his presence in WestView still unexplained.
While Darcy and Jimmy can identity a majority of the neighbors weāve met in WestView to their real-life counterparts, Dottie and Agnes are the only ones who are missing real information.
Itās revealed that Agent Woo was the voice behind the radio disruption, just as we suspected! But while we can see Wanda and Dottieās reaction to the call, Darcyās broadcast didnāt show the same thing. She explains that someone is ācensoringā the visuals theyāre receiving, which means someone knows theyāre watching.
Back in the sitcom WestView, we see that Monicaās slip-up resulted in Wanda blasting her through the house and the energy field. Itās the first time we physically see Wanda using her powers again, so she still has them. But the lapse in her facade has consequences ā when Vision returns from his talk with Agnes and Herb outside, Wanda hallucinates him as she last saw him in Infinity War, a corpse with his head crushed in.
Itās important to note that Vision seems to become more aware of the strangeness of their world with each episode. It makes sense because no matter how human he may seem, heās still a synthezoid who has always been able to see beyond the superficial. It harks back to his ābirthā in Age of Ultron. Heās omnipotent and always learning.
When Monica lands back in the real world, all she says is, āItās all Wanda.ā That seemingly serves as an answer to whatās going on in WestView, but itās not a whole answer. Wanda seems just as confused and unaware as everyone else, but she is willing to stay in her āperfectā world. The question is, who put Wanda in the position to have her perfect world?
Ā WandaVision Episode 3 Easter Eggs
Much like the comics, Wanda magically becomes pregnant! But this time around, things are progressing much more quickly, and her doctor isnāt Dr. Strange.
The first of the episodeās weird glitches happens with Wanda and Visionās neighbor Herb, who is attempting to saw through the brick fence separating the two houses instead of trimming his hedges. When Vision points out that his aim has gone a bit askew, Herbās detached reaction is a bit creepy. He thanks Vision but keeps sawing through the wall! And unlike the previous weird behavior, thereās nothing that triggers the moment, especially not from Vision or Wanda.
Wanda and Vision contemplate what to name their baby boy, with Vision suggesting Billy and Wanda throwing out Tommy. (The argument becomes moot when they have twins!) These are the names of the pairās sons in the comic, who later become members of the Young Avengers. In the show, Wanda chooses her name because itās āall-American,ā which is also a fair indicator of why her perfect reality is framed around sitcoms. Vision cites William Shakespeare as his inspiration and uses a quote from As You Like It that seems pretty on the nose. āAll the worldās a stage, and all the men and women merely playersā seems like a pointed reference to the fact that WandaVision is, in fact, all a show.
Wanda decorates the nursery using Simser brand paint, which is most likely a nod to Jeremy Simser, a storyboard artist for Marvel Studios and WandaVision.
The second glitch appears when Wanda says the residents of WestView always seem āon the verge of discovering our secret.ā Vision has a moment of sobering clarity where he notes that something is wrong in WestView, citing the incidents with Mr. and Mrs. Hart and their neighbor Herb. A second after his says this, reality glitches and the scene starts over with Vision seemingly worry-free. The last time this happened with the beekeeper, it was clear Wanda was the culprit in turning back time, but in this case, she doesnāt seem to do anything to force the change. This suggests someone else is pulling the strings.
Wanda mentions that their child could be human or āsynthezoid,ā a term that originates in the comics. Although fans like to joke that Vision is an android, heās technically a synthetic human. Heās not made of metal or machinery ā in the comics, his body is composed of the bioengineering tech of Dr. Helen Cho, while in the MCU, heās made of organic tissue mixed with vibranium and āpoweredā by the Mind Stone.
Vision jokes that Billy will be just like his mom, which is funny because, in the comics, Billy has magical abilities similar to Wandaās powers. Tommy ends up having superspeed abilities like his uncle, Pietro.
Itās time for the third commercial! Much like the previous episodeās watch promotion, this break references Hydra ā though a tad more directly. Itās all about Hydra Soak, and the message is decidedly more pointed than weāve had before. āEscape to a world all your own, where your problems float away,ā the announcer says. āWhen you want to get away, but you donāt want to go anywhere: Hydra Soak.ā Marvel: Agents of Shield fans will recall that Hydra Soak HAS been mentioned on the show. During the seriesās Framework arc, Phil Coulson claims that Hydra is brainwashing people using soap, so he makes his own. Is the commercial another sign that Hydra is behind the mystery of WestView? Is it a warning that no one in the town will be able to get away? And whatās that about finding the goddess within?
The actors in this ad are the same ones as the previous ones, Victoria Blade and Ithamar Enriquez. Their recurring presence might mean they have some significance in Wandaās life. Maybe theyāre her parents?
In what feels like an ominous follow-up to the Hydra Soak commercial, the doctor reveals that he and his wife wonāt be taking their trip away after all. āSmall towns, you know, so hard to escape,ā he mutters, pointedly. I think weāre starting to get the hint, folks! Wanda mentions she is a twin and that her brother was named Pietro. Itās been a hot minute since anyone has talked about MCUās Quicksilver ā he made his debut back in Age of Ultron, the same film in which he was shot and killed.
When Geraldine lets it slip that she knows about Pietroās death at the hands of Ultron, Wanda interrogates her and discovers her necklace bears a familiar symbol ā itās that damn S.W.O.R.D. logo, and Wanda is apparently not a fan.
In another sign that something is UP, Agnes and Herb seem to warn Vision about Geraldine. They note that sheās ābrand newā to town with no family and start to say that āshe came here because weāre all āā before theyāre cut off. Itās worth noting that the two figures that may be MCU versions of formidable Marvel characters are the ones who seem to understand that strange things are going on in WestView. If Agnes and Herb are the MCUās Agatha Harkness and High Evolutionary, they would definitely be the ones in the know. But why would they try to warn Vision about Geraldine if WestView is a trap?
Agnes is wearing her infamous brooch as a necklace that could be referencing an MCU supervillain mentioned before. The necklace has three figures close together, with the center figure holding what looks like a giant scythe. Is it another clue that the Grim Reaper is on his way?
Wanda literally throws Geraldine out of town ā though she tells Vision that she had to run home ā and Geraldine passes through what seems like a magical forcefield. While fans have been assuming WestView is a fake town, this shows us that physically, itās a very real place. But itās currently bubbled off with a barrier that Wanda can apparently allow people in and out of. And the song that plays as Geraldine finds herself outside the barrier? āDaydream Believerā by The Monkees. It seems pretty appropriate for a situation that feels like a surreal dream.
When Geraldine lands on the outskirts of real WestView, sheās instantly swarmed by cars and agents all bearing the S.W.O.R.D. logo. Since we know Teyonah Parris is playing the adult Monica Rambeau, itās safe to assume Geraldine was an alias she used to go undercover in WestView. Combined with the mystery agent watching the show within the show from episode one, we can conclude that Wanda and Vision are being closely observed by S.W.O.R.D. for some reason. But they clearly arenāt the ones in control, since Monica is so easily forced out. What will they do next?
While the opening credits of this episode are a reference to The Brady Bunch, itās the end credits that give us another clue about the big bad coming our way. Just like the previous episodes, Wanda and Vision are framed in a hexagon as the end credits roll. The symbol is so important because itās the preferred shape of the creators at Advanced Idea Mechanics, or AIM, who are last seen in Iron Man 3. Remember the beekeeper suits that resemble AIM agentsā clothing? It seems like the evil organization might be making a comeback.
Ā WandaVision Episode 2 Easter Eggs
The opening credits for this episode arenāt just an adorable homage to Bewitched but a whole bevy of Marvel Easter eggs! The illustration of the moon happens to be surrounded by six stars, and we canāt help but be reminded of the Infinity Gauntlet.
When Vision phases through the floor, thereās a dark shape that looks exactly like the helmet worn by Marvel supervillain Grim Reaper hidden in the space. In the comics, heās the brother of Wonder Man, whose brainwaves were used in Visionās creation.
When Wanda goes to the supermarket in the opening, three references hang above the aisle! Bova Milk refers to Bova, the humanoid cow who raised Wanda and Pietro on Mount Wundagore. Auntie Aās kitty litter is a witchy reference to Auntie Agatha or Agatha Harkness, whom weāve discussed before, and her cat-like familiar named Ebony. And Wonder Mints is most definitely a cheeky reference to Wonder Man, aka Simon Williams, the superhero who Visionās brainwaves are based on in the comics!
When animated Wanda and Vision settle on their couch, the small figure on their side table is a statue of the Whizzer. Featured in 1982ās Vision and the Scarlet Witch, the Whizzer thought he was Wandaās father but later discovers he was wrong. Whizzer and his wife were offered the chance to adopt Wanda and Pietro when they were kids on the mythical Mount Wundagore, but they declined.
When Wanda hears a crash outside the house, she heads out to the front, where she finds a colorful toy helicopter in an otherwise black-and-white world. Not only does the red-and-yellow helicopter have the number 57 stamped on it, but it also bears the S.W.O.R.D symbol! The number is likely in reference to Visionās first appearance in Avengers #57, while the symbol hints to the presence of S.W.O.R.D outside Wandaās perfect world.
The creepy, cult-like refrain spoken by the fundraiser organizers of it all being āfor the childrenā seems to be a reference to Wandaās involvement in the comic event The Childrenās Crusade. The story follows her son, Billy, whoās trying to gain control over his reality-warping abilities by looking for a missing Wanda.
Well, hereās another blast from the angsty past! The StrĆ¼cker timepiece is a very obvious callback to Hydra and Baron von StrĆ¼cker. The watch bears the unmistakable octopus skull symbol of Hydra, and StrĆ¼cker is the Hydra leader who recruited Pietro and Wanda for the experimentation that gave them powers. He was later killed by Ultron in his prison cell. Does anyone else hear that ticking noise? Remember good olā Herb? In the comics, a character named Herbert is also the High Evolutionary who runs Mount Wundagore, the very same safe haven where Bova delivered the Maximoff twins. Time will tell if the super-scientist is the same character, but it canāt be a coincidence.
Wanda and Visionās magic show has two gems that weāve noticed! First thing, the literal Mind Stone happens to be the design on the doors of the Cabinet of Mystery that plays a huge part in their act. Second, Wanda and Vision use the names Illusion and Glamour for their actor, which are also the names of the magicians that Vision goes to see in an issue of The Vision and the Scarlet Witch.
Though we all enjoy a good jam, The Beach Boysā āHelp Me, Rhondaā gets interrupted by someone asking, āWhoās doing this to you, Wanda?ā And doesnāt that voice sound an awful lot like Randall Parkās Jimmy Woo?
While it may seem weird that Wanda shows her pregnancy in an instant, itās in line with what goes on in the comics. Wanda uses magic to help her have children, which checks out since her husband is a synthezoid.
Oooh, that mysterious beekeeper! Not only does their presence lead to the reveal that Wanda has some control over the reality theyāre in, but it also sets off some alarm bells. Even though the beekeeperās suit bears the S.W.O.R.D logo on the back, the costume is reminiscent of the yellow costumes worn by A.I.M., a military science organization founded by Baron von StrĆ¼cker. Could this be a sign that Wanda is being watched by more than one organization? And is this a hint that Hydra is back!? (Obviously, it is.)
Ā WandaVision Episode 1 Easter Eggs
When Wanda accidentally smashes a plate into Visionās head, he jokes about his wife and her āflying saucers,ā and she comments back about his āindestructible head.ā Considering that Vision died after having the Mind Stone ripped from his head, itās a dark joke to kick off the series.
Visionās work tie has a visual reference to his comic-book alter ego! In Tom King and Gabriel Hernandez Waltaās Vision, whenever the character dresses as a human, he wears a tie clip that emulates the diamond pattern on his chest.
Visionās boss, Mr. Hart, is likely named after comic creator Steve Englehart, who created 1985ās The Vision and the Scarlet Witch with Richard Howell, a miniseries that heavily influenced WandaVision. Itās been heavily implied that Kathryn Hahnās Agnes is the MCUās Agatha Harkness, a witch who helped train Wandaās magic back in the ā70s and ā80s.
When Wanda magically saves dinner, the bottle of wine she pours from is Maison du MĆ©pris, which translates to house of contempt or scorn. As fans have pointed out since the trailer drop, this seems like a reference to the House of M comics storyline in which Wanda bends reality into a new world ruled by her family.
The Stark commercial break refers to two things: Avengers icon Tony Stark and his part in Wandaās dark past. As Wanda and her twin brother, Pietro, explain in Avengers: Age of Ultron, their parents were killed by an explosive Stark Industries device, leaving the twins trapped under rubble. The Maximoffs were trapped by a Stark Industries shell for two days, expecting it to detonate before they get rescued. Even though Wanda eventually fights beside Tony in the future, thereās still some trauma from that experience and her brotherās death. If it werenāt for the Starks, Wanda could have been a completely different person.
The episode closes with a mysterious observer watching the āshowā and taking notes on a pad with the logo of S.W.O.R.D. on the cover. For those who donāt know, S.W.O.R.D stands for Sentient World Observation and Response Department and is a subdivision of S.H.I.E.L.D. Itās a counterterrorism and intelligence agency that deals with extraterrestrial threats to world security. Expect to see them around more.

The Avengers: Endgame
youtube
Over the last couple months I finally upgraded to somewhat modern TV and gaming rigs in the form of a 55ā Samsung 4KTV and Xbox Series X. I own three 4K UHD discs, but one I already covered a couple years back with my entry of the BluRay version that came bundled with the 4K disc of Die Hard. The other is a two pack of the first two John Wick films, and rest assured those will get their day in the sun here eventually. From my research, the Xbox Series X is not a top shelf 4K BluRay player, at least not at the systemās launch before presumable system software updates, but also sounds like a fairly better quality version of the drive that came in the Xbox One X|S, and also supports upscaling of regular BluRays to 4K. Coincidentally, on top of my movie backlog pile was a movie I absolutely wanted to take advantage of that 4K upscaling and thus here we are with todayās write-up for 2019ās The Avengers: Endgame (trailer). WARNING: Unlike nearly most of my other movie recaps I will be diving into serious spoiler territory ahead. The amount of hype leading up to Endgame was insurmountable. Anthony and Joseph Russo did an astounding job directing the first part in 2018ās Infinity War (read my entry for it here). Both that and Endgame top the three hour mark to squeeze in as many characters, references, periphery side plots and so much more from the previous 21 Marvel Cinematic Universe films that lead up to this finale. By accomplishing just that, both movies are the breeziest three hour viewings I have experienced because the Russo brothers do a commendable job at keeping the scenes flowing and doing their best to give everyone their proper time to shine. The ending of Infinity War saw Thanos (Josh Brolin) deliver the snap heard around the world that vanished half of all life in the entire universe. It was a soul-crushing downer of a cliffhanger to end on, but the post-credits tag hinting at the cry of help for Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) left crowds with a glimmer of hope. This being based around comic books there is the unwritten rule where no one truly stays dead either, so part of the experience going into Endgame was to see how the remaining Avengers plan to bring everybody back. Endgame kicks off with the fresh effects of āthe snapā when it starts with Hawkeyeās family all getting dusted from him in the middle of a picnic.
The film transitions to the remaining un-dusted Avengers squad of Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Iron Man (Robert Downer Jr.) floating aimlessly in space until the convenient deus ex machina that is Captain Marvel miraculously tracks them down and hauls them back to Earth. A few weeks Avengers HQ tracks down Thanos on an isolated planet and with Captain Marvelās power, they anticlimactically kill him off in a brief scene. This was one of the parts of the film that did not sit well with me after building up Thanos as this unrivaled threat in all the previous films, and to have the Avengers cold-bloodedly put him down in quick order seems soā¦ā¦unlike them, but he did off half the universe so I understand how the Russoās felt justified for filming it that way, but I cannot help that it did not come across right, and could have been handled better. Of course, a more proper Thanos battle would be coming later in the final act thanks to my pet peeve plot device that isā¦. ā¦TIME TRAVEL!!!! This and alternate dimension traveling I despise and have turned me off to many shows over the years like Lost and CWās DC shows. The worst of it is indeed present here because meaningful character deaths that happened in Infinity War to Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Gamura (Karen Gillan) become undone and their sacrifices proved for naught. All that griping aside however, I will give the Russo brothers credit because even with those qualms I feel they pull off time travel and have it appear as more than a convenient storytelling method. Again, major props because that is a hell of a hurdle to overcome. The filmmakers go out of their way in a couple scenes to directly call out Back to the Futureās style of time travel bullshit, and have a couple characters ever-so-carefully explain in detail and for the laymen how ārealā time travel works.
This is all thanks to a rambunctious rat who inadvertently zaps Ant Man (Paul Rudd) out of the Quantum Realmā¦after being trapped there five years due to his team being on the end of a dusting before bringing him back. Ant Man deduces upon his return that he is able to undo the dusting through his van-quantum-realm-contraption, and convinces the Avengers to conjure up a plan they cleverly dub the āTime Heistā to travel back to capture all the Infinity Gems Stones before Thanos does. I loved how these scenes played out, and there is a plethora of fan service throughout it as the three squads of Avengers jump to different periods like the final battle of the original Avengers film, and a 1970 military base where Howard Stark (John Slattery) unknowingly meets his son. Plans do not proceed swimmingly to say the least, and past timeline Thanos becomes clued in to their plan and thwarts the Avengers attempt at trying to undo the past in a CG showpiece for the ages with his assault on Avengers HQ. The CG fireworks continue to dazzle for the bulk of the final hour of the film with a climatic showdown between Thanos and his forces against The Avengers and the returning of the dusted Marvel characters. I have seen too many comic book films fail at translating over-the-top comic book action on the silver screen, but the Russo brothers always manage to pull it off. I fondly remember the theater crowd going gaga when Captain America (Chris Evans) summons Mjolnir and wallops Thanos with it. The women of Marvel have another moment to shine together where they collectively team up to kick ass. Moments of levity are brilliantly peppered in throughout the chaos for a much-needed chuckle from the nonstop adrenaline-boosting action. That final battle masterfully builds up to the dramatic sacrifice of Iron Man in the standout emotional scene of the film.
The resulting aftermath was heartwarmingly done here with a pre-recorded farewell from Iron Man, and a collage of nearly all the major and minor MCU characters at Iron Manās funeral. I believe this is the first MCU film without a post-credits tag, and that is 100% fine by me, because the beginning of the credits is a lovingly crafted tribute to the original Avengers cast done in the fashion of the Original Series cast of Star Trek VI that resonated with me feeling the end of a pivotal era of the MCU that I have been largely enjoying since the original 2008 Iron Man. I usually do not dive into this much detail and spoilers when recapping the movies here, but due to this being the final chapter of this era of the MCU films I could not help myself, and believe me there is so much more I wanted to dive in here on because like I said, the Russo brothers crammed in an incredible amount of narrative into three hours. There is so much ground in here it is impossible for me to recap it all, and that it will in all likelihood be the fastest three hour movie you will ever endure. I did not get a chance to even touch on over-the-hill Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and the hybrid Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo (spoiler: they both killed it!)). Endgame unsurprisingly did major bank at the box office, so I feel safe knowing most of you reading this already watched it by now which is another reason I went all out on the spoilers.
I re-watched the film for this entry a second time with commentary from the Russo brothers, and writers Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, and that greatly helped explain some little tidbits that were easy to miss and/or not fully comprehend in the midst of the three hours. I know this is a little detail, but I want to give props to Marvel for being one of the few companies out there for shelling out resources to caption the commentary track! I exponentially appreciate it more than you know! The commentary helped with understanding why they did not do a lot for Black Widowās (Scarlett Johansson) aftermath of her death because she has her prequel film set to release. Other notable takeaways from the commentary was how Starkās āI am Iron Manā line was a last minute addition to the film, giving credit to Star Trek VI as inspiration for their credits sequence, being hopeful for Marvel capitalizing on Falcon donning Capās shield and lots of understandable love for the visual effects team for their hard work. Aside from the commentary track, the BluRay has a second disc with just under an hour of bonus material. There is the requisite short, but top-of-the-line gag reel that is standard in most Marvel Studios home videos. There are five minutes of deleted scenes worth a look, with some of them lightheartedly covering up plot holes. Remembering Stan Lee is a touching tribute to Stan, filled with archived interviews from him on his experiences in the cameos, and showing plenty of delightful off-camera interactions with the cast and crew. There are well done character profile pieces for Thor, Black Widow, Captain America and Iron Man, with each one having countless cast and crew state proper kudos to what the actors have done for those characters over the years. If you only have time for one then I recommend Man Out of Time: Creating Captain America, because it goes into a little more detail than the others and Chris Evans has some intriguing introspection from his years with the character. Finally, there are short, but worthwhile pieces on the Russo brothers and the women of the MCU that should not be skipped out on either.
As I mentioned above, the hype building up to Endgame was insurmountable, but Joseph and Anthony Russo overcame the odds and delivered a gratifying conclusion to this era of the MCU. Watching the BluRay upscaled in 4K on a TV about a third bigger than my previous set made it a grander experience too for those showpiece moments. Sure I had quibbles and nitpicks I mentioned above, but by and large those are easily overcome by how much the Russo brothers got it right with this film. I am kicking myself for waiting a year and a half to re-watch it, but picked up on a lot of little things that went right over mine and Draxās heads the first time out. If you have yet to give The Avengers: Endgame another viewing, then do not hesitate because you will not regret once again taking in this landmark epic that delivered against all odds! Sabriel
I genuinely have no idea where this ship came from, but it is pretty cute, and I was curious to read a couple fics of them. Besides, Iām currently on season 13 and we deserve more Gabriel content in this time of stress. All of these also have Destiel in them, but which one the fic is focused on varies. I hope you enjoy them!
Rewriting the Book by MonPetitTresor on AO3. (37,224 words).
Tags: Dimension Travel, Alternate Universe, Gabriel in the Bunker, Angst and Hurt/Comfort, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Sam Remembers Hell, PTSD, Post-Gadreel, Mark of Cain, Hurt Sam, Scared Sam, Emotionally Repressed, Sam Has Panic Attacks, The Cage.
My Rating: 5 stars.
Description: When Sam gets a little too close to stopping Metatronās plans, the angel decides to use some of his extra juice to get Sam out of his way by sending him to a completely different reality. He never couldāve predicted what Sam might find there ā or what he might bring back home with him.
Notes: The trauma in this was written so well, and it is part of what made this amazing. It was really respectful, realistic, and clearly well researched. And, as a bonus, an excellent plot!
In All Your Borrowed Finery by vanishingact on AO3. (67,950 words).
Tags: Winged Dean Winchester, Winged Sam Winchester, Winged Castiel, Winged Gabriel, Spells & Enchantments, Hunters & Hunting, Case Fic, Harpies, Canon-Typical Violence, Major Character Injury, Slow Build, Slow Burn, Fluff and Humor and Smut and Angst, Wingfic, Fan art.Ā
My Rating: 5 stars.Ā
Description: Dean finds an interesting symbol in Kevin's angel tablet notes and, against Sam's counselling, uses it in the heat of battle with a pair of angelic assassins. Side effects include pain, disorientation, and uncontrollable new appendages for the Winchesters. A disgruntled Castiel and a delighted Gabriel show up to help. Hunting (and life) gets interesting when wings are involved.
Notes: Okay this was literally adorable and you can not convince me otherwise. Every time I read a fic with everyoneās favourite archangel, I miss him just a bit more.
Black Swans by omphalos and Wolfling on AO3. (66,455 words).
Tags: Post-Apocalypse, Road Trip, Blasphemy.
My Rating: 5 stars.
Description: A post-apocalyptic road trip with a still recovering archangel wasn't how Sam had envisioned the aftermath of their big plan, but it sure beat a lot of the alternatives.
Notes: This was absolutely brilliant, so well written, and the plot was phenomenal! The misunderstanding was painful, and the original characters were great.
omni gladio ancipiti by lifevolutionary on AO3. (10,892 words).
Tags: Wingfic, Telepathy, Psychic Bond.
My Rating: 5 stars.

Notes: I know it says Good Omens as well, but it is just a brief mention of Aziraphale and Crowley, so you donāt need to know anything about it! And this fic was written beautifully. Is it bad that I miss the apocalypse days?

My Rating: 4 stars.
Description:Ā Sam always asks inappropriate, poorly-timed questions, so what comes out of his mouth doesn't exactly surprise himself. "Where were you?"
Notes: This was brilliant - the little gifts that Gabe left for Sam were adorable, and I burst out laughing at the image of trying to get Bobbyās wheelchair on top of a toilet.

Description: Ā When Dean Winchester turned sixteen he was disappointed by the words that appeared on his chest. He never expected that it would take so much to find his soulmate. He never expected to not remember meeting themā¦

Description: In which Dean has the hots for a librarian named Cas, Cas may or may not have the hots for a mechanic named Dean, and Gabriel joins Sam in the peanut gallery in the hopes that he might just get to do a horizontal tango of his own.
Notes: Damn, the misunderstandings in this were so unbelievably painful. Overall, though, it was very funny and quite cute. Also, I love the idea of Gabe owning a sweet store.

Description: When John sells his sons to Heaven in exchange for the Colt, Dean and Sam find themselves separated from each other and in the care of two very different angels. Dean and Cas work together to find out why Heaven wants Sam and how they can reunite the brothers - all the while growing closer every day. Meanwhile Sam should hate Gabriel and his endless string of conquests, but Gabriel's twisted sense of humor and attractive smile inspire something much more complicated.
Notes: First of all, I would like to say that John absolutely does not deserve any redemption or forgiveness in this fic, but okay. The idea - especially the Sabriel side - was a little creepy, but it was executed fairly well.

Highway of Love (Or: How Sam Winchester Learned to Stop Worrying and Relax Already) by Jassy on AO3. (24,536 words).
Tags: Sam Winchester, Dean Winchester, Bobby Singer, The Trickster.
My Rating: 5 stars.
Description: AU. Sam noticed a few things weren't quite right after they killed the Trickster. After going back to check things out, his life will never be the same.
Notes: This was probably the first Sabriel fic I ever read, and honestly I just didnāt understand it. I mean, not complaining, because Iāve read Mystrade fics before and we all know they donāt even share a scene, but I was still confused. Then, I read a really nicely done thing on Instagram explaining it, and I kind of got it. So I read this, and I really enjoyed it, and now I ship Sabriel.Ā
So, they may be this fandomās crack ship, but I hope you enjoyed this edition of Destiel + other ships. Iām thinking that I might do a Saileen one in the future, because she may have only been in one episode I have watched but oh boy she was an icon, and itās good for my heart to ship things that actually happen (I think. No one tell me otherwise. I will cry).

Digimon Adventure Shipping Masterpost - Part 2
Part 1Ā
Sora x Izzy (Kora)
Pros:Theyāre both the most level headed of the group and thereās relatively little drama between them. So if you want something sweet and cute thatās stress free, then this could do ya.Ā Thereās also the added bonus of breaking up the Tai/Sora/Matt triangle.Ā
Cons: Theyāre also kind of boring. They donāt play off one another in any interesting way. Theyāre just generally nice to each other and can work together as a team, and thatās about it.Ā They also rarely interact outside of the group.Ā
Personal Ranking (5/10) Eh..I can see it working and I donāt mind it as a refreshing break from the drama, but there are more interesting ships out there for them.
Sora x Mimi (Mira)
Pros: These two were the only two girls on the team for a long while, so naturally they spent a lot of time together on screen. Theyāre best friends, and therefore a lesbianās dream team of a pairing. They got that opposites attract vibe, theyāre relatively drama free, and theyāre still other girls on the team that they interact with so itās not like weāre losing the only female friendship on the show if you ship them.Ā Ā Ā
Cons: Mimi is largely absent in 02, so we get less interaction betweenĀ them than other AdventureĀ characters. Also, while there are other female friendships none are quite as close as these two and so you may prefer them as platonic.Ā
Personal Ranking (6/10) Like withĀ Kora, I can see them working, and I do indeed like Mimi-centric ships a lot, but I kind of prefer them as a friends since for the longest time they were the only female friendship on the show; back when I was first watching.Ā Ā
Sora x Joe (Joura)
Pros: These two spend a lot of time together in Adventure. Thereās lot of one on one interaction for them up episodes for them. They work well as a team, while still being different enough to make for an interesting interactions.Ā Also if you have the love triangle, Joe and Sora are seen suspiciously close together during the epilogue.Ā Ā
Cons: Sora is in a canon ship already, if that matters to you. Plus Joe may not be your favorite, as heās pretty decisive. Then thereās the fact that he and Sora do bump heads more so than Sora does with anyone else. Itās like a tei between Tai and Joe over who can annoy Sora the most in season one.Ā
Personal Ranking (7/10) This is my second favorite ship for Sora, but thatās probably because I just really like Joe a lot.Ā
Sora x T.K. (Sokeru)
Pros: This ship is oddly popular in certain sections of the fandom. Iām guessing for the same reasons why Yamakari is liked. Sora is very protective of TK in season one. While their interactions do taper off after that point, theyāre still seen hanging out together in 02 and Tri, at times.Ā Ā
Cons: Once again their interactions are limited to mostly group settingings. They also have the same age gap as all of the 02/Adventure pairings. Given how most of their moments are in season one where that age gap makes the most difference, thereās little to go on post Adventure.Ā Ā
Personal Ranking (4/10) Yeah, not enough interaction to sell this one for me.Ā
Sora x Kari (Sokari)
Pros: More femslash options. Theyāre mostly drama free and are very similar in terms of personality. Also, when placed together they cancel out each otherās respective love triangles.Ā
Cons: All of the same cons asĀ Sokeru. Also they are very similar personality wise and so their dynamic may bore you.Ā
Personal Ranking (3/10) Yeah, count me as one who finds them boring. Add in the age gap and lack of interaction and this ship is a no go for me.Ā
Sora x Davis (Daiora)
Pros: Itās basically Taiora but without the triangle bullshit. Also Davis is very good for unrequited romance pairings.Ā
Cons: Even less interactionĀ thanĀ Sokeru orĀ Sokari. The age gap is still present even though it doesnāt matter as much in 02.Ā
Personal Ranking (5/10) I do really like Davis, and fanworks have shown that they make a cute pairing. But only as like a one sided crush thing, so their dynamic is limited.Ā
Sora x Yolei (Soyako)
Pros: Much like with Taisuke and Yamasuke, Sora is in that mentor to friend role for Yolei, but with slightly less of an age gap.Ā Also more femslash options, which are indeed rarer than the slash ones, just cause there are less girls than boys in this show, sadly.Ā
Cons: Theyāre kind of Mimra light as yolie is very similar to Mimi in terms of personality. Also while they get some moments in 02, that ends as soon as we get to other seasons.Ā
Personal Ranking (4/10) Meh...Iād rather just go with Mimra.Ā
Sora x Cody (Sori)
Pros:On the one hand they so rarely interact that you can shape their relationship post Tri into being whatever you want it to be.Ā
Cons: On the other hand they aren't ever seen together outside of the group and itās only in 02Ā where their age difference would most matter.Ā
Personal Ranking (2/10) I guess thereās a certain freedom in being able to take a relationship in any direction you want to without it being pure crack or non-canon. I just don't know why you would want to when thereās so many other options out there.Ā
Sora x Ken (Kenora)
Pros: Uh... They both wind up in ridiculous careers that arenāt suited to them? Theyāre both shoved into canon relationships without proper build up for them? Wanna cause drama for drama sake with a cheating route?Ā
Cons: Are these two even friends? Out of all of the 02 and Adventure characters these two probably get the least amount of interaction. At best Iād call them acquaintances who just so happen to have mutual friends.Ā
Personal Ranking (3/10) All the same cons as all the other 02/Adventure ships but taken to the max. I only rank it higherĀ Sori because thereās a slightly less age gap.Ā
Sora x Jun (Junora)
Pros: With these two you can pull a Korra/Asami and cut Matt off at the knees. If youāre pissed at how 02 handled relationships this can be cathartic.Ā Ā Itās also a femslash option that winds up being very different in dynamics from the other yuri pairings in the show.Ā
Cons: Jun knows of Soraās existence, and theyāve shared scenes together. Yet theyāve never talked to one another, and Iām not sure if Sora even knows who she is.Ā Then thereās the fact that Jun is very decisive in fandom.Ā
Personal Ranking (7/10) I really like Jun. I also like the potential dynamic that her and Sora can have. I also like getting back at Matt after the wayĀ he treated Jun. So this ship is a win/win for me.Ā
Sora x Meiko (Meiora)
Pros: Lots of interactionsĀ and shippy moments to work off of.Ā Itās the āmoeā dynamic but made gay. Triangle drama free or increased triangle drama, take your pick.Ā Ā
Cons: Just like withĀ Meichi andĀ Meimato, how much you like this ship will depend on how much you like Meiko as a character. If you thought her annoying in Tri, youāll no doubt be annoyed by this.Ā
Personal Ranking (6/10) This is like Sokari but made good? Kari as she gets older becomes more Sora like and Sora as she gets older becomes more Kari like. But Mei remains the woobie/soft girl through out, so you get the protectiveness and lesbian interaction minus the awkward age gap.Ā
Izzy x Mimi (Mishirou)
Pros: Itās ābeauty and the geekā but with an added twist. Thereās some of those awkward crush moments in Tri if you like that, but mostly Izzy is very confident and assertive, just like Mimi. They tend to call out each otherās bullshit the most often. Also Mini is perhaps the second character Izzy hangs out with one on one the most besides Tai.Ā
Cons: The crush in Tri comes out of almost nowhere and feels like pandering. Izzy never seemed to care for Mimi in that way before and indeed was annoyed with her more often than not. Then somewhere in the middle of Tri the crush was just completely dropped altogether without any resolvement one way or the other.Ā
Personal Ranking (6/10) Iāve warmed up to it somewhat since Tri. There is a basis there, but it does feel very forced at times, and I don't get the overwhelming love for it. Itās merely ok at best.Ā
Izzy x Joe (Jyoushirou)
Pros: Geek meets Nerd!Ā Thatās about it. If you really like these two characters then they work just about as well as any other ship in the show. Thereās also the comedic elements to their interactions together to play off of.Ā Ā It also nips the Izzy/Mimi/Joe triangle in the bud.Ā
Cons: They have more moments together than Sora and Izzy, but not more than say Joe and Matt. Itās brief comedic moments when we get them together and not many serious or deep interactions.Ā
Personal Ranking (5/10) Eh..Thereās a foundation there to build something off of, but for whatever reason it just doesnāt gel for me.Ā Ā
Izzy x T.K. (Takshirou)Ā
Pros: Theyāre closer in age then some of the other 02/Adventure characters, and they do interact often in all three seasons.Ā
Cons:Ā Still most of those interactions are either plot related or group scenes. Thereās not a whole lot to go off of.Ā
Personal Ranking (4/10) I don't get why someone would ship these two, yet I wouldnāt be outright opposed to it if they did.Ā
Izzy x Kari (Kokari)Ā
Pros: Same pros asĀ Takshirou
Cons: Same cons asĀ Takshirou
Personal Ranking (4/10) for the same reasons asĀ Takshirou.Ā
Izzy x Davis (Daishiro)Ā
Pros: I guess if you like the Taishiro dynamic, but not enough to break Tai up with one of his more popular ships then this could be an option.Ā Ā
Cons: Itās Taishiro lite with all the added problems that comes from shiping the 02/Adventure cast.Ā
Personal Ranking (4/10) For the same reasons stated as for Takshirou andĀ Kokari.
Izzy x Yolei (Koyako)Ā
Pros:Ā Of all the 02/Adventures ships this has the smallest age gap. The age difference between her and Izzy is the same a Izzy the rest of the adventure gang. As such they spend a lot of time together.Ā They also have a similar dynamic toĀ Mishirou, but with the added dimension of Yolei being a nerd as well. She can keep up with Izzyās technobabble and often assists him in his projects.Ā
Cons: Izzy does have a reduced role in 02 like the rest of the adventure gang, though not quite as bad as some. Meanwhile Yolei only appears in 02 except for like a cameo here and there. So while they do interact one on one on occasion itās not a whole lot.Ā Ā
Personal Ranking (7/10) To me this has all the pros ofĀ Mishirou, but none of the cons. Theyāre both assertive and capable of calling out each otherās bs, but they also have a deeper understanding of one another can more in common to build off of.Ā Ā
Izzy x Cody (Kori)Ā
Pros: Itās the mentor/friend dynamic again. They have a lot in common and are seen hanging out together a lot.Ā Ā
Cons: Same age difference as with the other mentor ships and like withĀ Koyako theyāre scenes are limited to only 02.Ā Ā
Personal Rankings (3/10) Itās got more of a basis then the other Cody ships thus far, but thatās not saying much.Ā
Izzy x Ken (Kenshirou)Ā
Pros: Uh.. Itās assertive nerd boy meets shy nerd boy, I guess? Thereās also the whole former villain thing for some added angst if you want.Ā
Cons: Not a whole lot of one on one interact and when we do get it itās mostly plot expositionĀ
Personal Ranking (4/10) I put this on the same level as Takshirou, Kokari, andĀ Daishiro
Izzy x Jun (Junshirou)Ā
Pros: It breaks all of the triangles involving both of them. Theyāre both fun characters. Pair the spares.Ā They both went on that camping trip once.Ā Comedy.
Cons: This ship is as close as crack as you can get without being full on crack. Theyāve met, they know of each otherās existence, and theyāve been in the same scene together more than once. But theyāve never actually talked with one another on screen before.Ā
Personal Ranking (7/10) I just like Jun. I donāt care who you pair her with, itās entertaining because sheās enterianing.Ā Ā
Izzy x Meiko (Meishirou)Ā
Pros: I guess if you like both characters then youāll like this ship just fine. Can double as a pair the spares in order to resolve the Izzy/Mimi/Joe tringle.Ā
Cons: Mei has less interaction with Izzy than some of the rest of the group. Also itās dependent upon how much you like Mei as a character.Ā
Personal Ranking (5/10) Itās not bad, but give meĀ Junshirou,Ā Koyako, or Taishirou over it any day of the week.Ā
Thatās part 2, will carry on later in part part 3Ā

The Narrative Devices ofĀ āMinecraft Speedrunner VS 4 Huntersā (One of the greatest Shonen anime OVAs of all time?)
With over 17 million views and counting, this video of one man attempting to beat Minecraft while 4 other players chase him has become a huge success and its not hard to see why. The video is exciting and tense to a completely new viewer while still carrying with it the 32 million fans of the previous video in the series and the 29 million fans of the video before that. While those videos are also amazing, as a newcomer when I watched the vs4 addition I couldnāt help but dive deeper than I had any right to into WHY this video was not just exciting and tense but also a master of storytelling. So today lets run down a couple of extremely common narrative devices and structures that this video uses and possibly how Minecraft as a game contributes to this.
youtube
The High Concept
What if a bunch of teenagers were forced to fight each other by a tyrannical government? What if humans revived the dinosaurs but were unable to contain their power? What if 1 player is pitted against 4 others in a race to beat Minecraft?
High Concepts are quick, catchy premises that the story is centered around. Theyāre designed to get butts in seats by targeting people before the piece of media has actually begun. Once youāre watching, the High Concept needs to be played with an drawn to its natural conclusion in order to satisfy readers who were likely drawn in specifically because of that premise.
The Minecraft Hunters video does this multiple times when the person being hunted suddenly becomes the Hunter. While not inherit to the premise, this is a logical leap the audience can make that in order to be safe the hunted must get rid of the hunters.
The Hook
Its become part of the James Bond formula now to start every movie with a big, bombastic fight scene and thatās for good reason. Once someone has decided to view your media theyāre still not necessarily invested yet. In an age of Netflix where you can flip to a new movie at the click of a button, a proper hook keeps the audience watching, provides a promise of things to come and leads into the first lull in action where more exposition can be given.Ā
In the Minecraft Hunters video we get a brief bit of exposition explaining the high concept and then its off to the races. One extremely fun thing the video does is bait you into thinking theyāre going to stand around and explain things more when out of no where Dream punches and runs. The following chase is a classic James Bond opening scene. It also sets up mechanics that are used multiple times in the run such as towering. Like any good action scene it ends on a twist and then immediately the pace slows and we see Dream doing his first real resource gathering. The stage is set!
The Underdog Hero
A main character is an action movie or shonen anime narrative is often a paradox: they are an unkillable, hero, one man army and yet constantly the underdog. This is because the character cannot die (or the franchise is over), but at the same time a constant tension must be maintained that losing is possible. People also naturally want to root for underdogs its important to include this aspect of your character to make them relatable. The most common ways you can pull this off is to take a heroic person and either give them an impossible task or to pit them against multiple opponents or both (think a heist movie where there are several guards defending the vault). Naturally, the High Concept of this video leads itself to doing both of these things, turning Dream into the ultimate Underdog Hero.Ā
As a side note, the antagonists of the series, the Hunters, are character more similar to a shonen anime rival as opposed to a more western style of villain. Its all in good fun and youāre less rooting against them as you are rooting for Dream.
Chekhov's Gun
Named after the principle that if a gun is shown in a room someone is bound to grab it and use it, this refers to the general idea of setup and payoff. There are 2 major uses of Chekhovās Gun in the video and they each have different delays between the setup and payoff.
The first is the Strider Saddle play and its perfect to illustrate the concept. First we see Dreams find his first Nether Fortress, killing a Wither Skeleton and opening a chest. We see him pick up the Saddle but we cut away and donāt belabor the point. This is because only 2 minutes later we see him use the Saddle to escape on a Strider.
The second is the Frost Walker boots. Dreams find a Nether Portal structure in the overworld and finds these in a chest at the 9 minute mark, well before the Strider play. At about the 10:30 mark we get this extremely exaggerated scene where Dream uses the Frost Walker boots in front of us and highlights the item. Then its not until 16 minutes later than he uses the boots to kill the hunters via fall damage.
So whats essentially going on here is different levels of setup based on how soon the payoff is coming. For a quick payoff we donāt need to draw attention to the setup because the audience will naturally have a short term memory of the recent events. However for the long term payoff we need to be primed to pay attention to a certain thing. When we see Dreams showing off the Frost Walker boots we internalizeĀ āthis will be important laterā. Youāll also notice that Minecraftās game design helps prime you to remember these Chekhovās Guns: both items being found in very noticeable and memorable structures not just dug up from a generic piece of dirt. (This also applies to the 3rd Chekhovās Gun I didnāt touch on for time concerns, the TNT from the Pyramid)Ā
Youāll also notice that the video uses a Chekhovās Gun in arguably the most effective way, as a twist. We need only think back to early Naruto to know how effective a twist Chekhovās Gun can be in a shonen fight. You never forget the first time you saw Shikamaru win Chuuin exam fight by using the hole Naruto created during his duel.Ā
The Three Act Structure
Iām sure we all have heard of the 3 act structure before. While they go by many names lets go with Setup, Confrontation, Resolution for now. The key is having a cycle of tension and release while still slowly escalating tension over the course of the show. The video neatly divides into Overworld, Nether and End sections which translate very well into the 3 act structure.Ā
Tension is slowly escalating because each new dimensions has more and more hazards. This is of course Minecraftās game design doing the heavy lifting, however the End in the hunterās realm is a lot more dangerous considering its a closed off arena where Dreams canāt just escape, he has to fight.
There are also cycles of tension and release. Naturally tension builds up while a chase is happening and then we get some time to relax after Dreams escapes. However, what I want to focus on is how each increasing dimension gives an opportunity for the players to find each other again. Each step in the Nether counts for 8 in the Otherworld, so even if Dreams built a far away Nether portal on the surface he would still be closer to the hunters than ever before. This stage also requires finding a Nether Fortress so the players are forced to reconvene. In the End the forced grouping is more obvious as there is only one End platform so the action is forced upon the players.
This is mainly why I say the 3 act structure lines up with the Overworld, Nether and End dimensions so neatly. Its not just me observing that there are 3 dimensions in Minecraft but that each new dimension forces a new confrontation to happen even after Dreams has successful escaped and the tension is lessened.Ā
However, this observation does only go so far. I think the biggest flaw of the video is that End lasted too long. This makes sense when you lay the 3 act structure over top of it: you rarely want your conclusion to be drawn out. Usually the final confrontation is more elaborate than the previous ones, but not 2 times as long.Ā
AmbiguousĀ Ending
So youāve dragged your audience to hell and back and they loved every second of it, how do you ensure you piece of media becomes a discussion point after thatās all done? Well one way is to have an Ambiguous Ending. We see this a lot in fiction, but most famously at the end of Inception where we are unsure whether we are still in the dream world or not. This Minecraft Hunters video sparks similar online debate by posing the questionĀ ādoes it count if I killed the dragonĀ posthumously?ā Personally, these types of ending are my favorites! I think it takes a lot of balls for a piece of media to ask a question of the audience at the end instead of wrapping everything up neatly but of course not every story should have one.Ā
ConclusionĀ
All pieces of media are telling stories regardless of whether theyāre Hollywood blockbusters, indie novels or Minecraft Lets Play videos. Sometimes even in unscripted content, a story can emerge especially if a content creator is looking to tell a good story. And lets not forget the role video editing has in putting together a story. Entire narrative devices such as Chekhov's Gun owe their entire existence to the editor. The decisions of what to linger on and for how long drove the pacing of the story from beginning to end. Finally, if you want to hear more on how editing can create a story from unscripted content, I highly recommend checking out the video below. Remember, stories are everywhere!

Ultraman Z Ep 5: āFirst Jugglingā (TV Review)
(Original Air Date: July 18, 2020, Director: Takanori Tsujimoto, Writer: Takao Nakano)
A chilling threat arises from Earthās ancient past this week on Ultraman Z. As Haruki and Yoko are sent out to deal with it, we get a special look at the personal life of STORAGE Chief Shota Hebikura. Those elements plus the debut of a new weapon for Zett make this the most densely plotted and exciting episodes so far.
[Full Review Under the Cut]
The main threat of the episode comes from the freezing power of Peguila as the flying creature lands in the city. Why itās arisen from the permafrost in Alaska after 30,000 years and targeted this city is connected to two things in the episodeās story; first is Hebikura speculating that climate change has made it easier for the beast to escape its ice prison and secondly is a legend connecting the monster to an stone spear recently recovered from the same area being studied at the local university. Yokoās sent out in Windom with Haruki on the ground to handle evacuation.
We get a more detailed look at Windomās launch procedures than last time, where the focus was more on what the robotās like in action and seeing it fly out of STORAGE is a solid effects sequence. There are some of the more unique destruction shots in the series so far as we see Peguila marching through the city. Most impressive among them being a POV shot from inside a car that gets flipped over by the monsterās footsteps shaking the ground beneath it before cutting to an exterior shot of the vehicle getting stomped by Peguila. This part of the episode is also a solid highlight on Yoko as sheās determined to not eject from Windom until sheās certain as many people have gotten to safety as possible, even as Peguilaās freezing breath damages Windom to the point of nearly freezing to death herself. Listening to her determination and pride in her job over the comms, Haruki gets ready to join the fight as Ultraman Z before the Z Riser is stolen from his by a mystery figure, the returning Jugglus Juggler.
Iāve been talking around the foreshadowing and fan speculation about Chief Hebikura since I started writing these reviews. Getting to discuss the actual reveal feels like a welcome exhale now that we know for sure that Takaya Aoyagi is reprising the role of Jugglus Juggler from Ultraman Orb. The official reveal and seeing Aoyagi fully back in Juggler-mode was the most excited this already thrilling episode got me. For those less familiar with the Ultra franchise, Juggler was the main villain in Orb but has since been something of a wild card in terms of what his motives are at any given time throughout cameos and guest spots. His personality can best be described as āI think I will cause problems on purposeā, his monster form is like if Square Enix redesigned Mac Tonight, and heās a favorite character among many in the Ultra-fandom, myself included.
Why Jugglerās gone undercover in a position of authority for an organization like STORAGE is currently unknown, but his actions in this episode appear to stem from simple boredom, as hinted in the cliffhanger of the previous episode. He leaves STORAGE HQ while Yoko and Haruki are dealing with the current threat of Peguila and we donāt see him again in human form until the actual reveal of him changing back from his monster form. Plenty of credit is deserved for Aoyagi as an actor, as he does play the two sides in great contrast with different body language and styles of line reads when heās āHebikuraā versus when heās on his own as Juggler. While my excitement for this reveal comes from my knowledge of past Ultra shows, I am curious how this reveal reads to anyone less familiar with the franchise. I could see the base level of āthe main characterās boss was actually a monster-man the whole timeā still being an effective reveal, but not getting that same excitement from it without that background knowledge.
Jugglerās boredom may have been what drove him to steal the Z Riser for his own end, but the meat of the story in this episode is what that drives Haruki to do so he can help against Peguila without the power of Zett. Remembering Yokoās words about doing their jobs at any cost, Haruki rushes back to HQ to commandeer Sevenger to save Yoko and continue the fight against that ādirty penguinā (his words.) While he manages to save Yoko by thawing out Windom with Sevengerās jets and gets a few good hits in against Peguila, the monster is still enough of a threat to damage Harukiās robot. Once the two pilots are back on the ground, Haruki gets a last minute save from Juggler, giving him back the Z Riser.
After a brief reunion scene where Zett tells Haruki he āsensed darknessā while they were separated, the episode climaxes in two different and equally stunning fight sequences. The fight between Ultraman Z and Peguila is mostly an aerial battle through the snowstorm the monster creates, composited to look like a continuous shot, and features a nice shot of the ācameraā frosting over as the monsterās artic blast hits it. This fight gets resolved in one shot once the stone spear glows to life and Zett senses the power of a past Ultraman within it, remarking that he knows how to use a weapon like this. Before the fight ends thereās a great humorous bit where Peguila visibly freaks out at seeing the weapon that sealed it away again.
While that may have been where the other episodes so far would have ended, here we go on to see the results of Jugglerās machinations. Earlier in the episode heās seen conducting a ritual calling upon the powers of darkness to make a dark duplicate of the Z Riser along with three Monster Medals of his own. Once he sees that the fight against Peguila has concluded, he pulls out the Riser to test his own powers against those of Zett. We get to see his own transformation sequence, styled after that of Ultraman Orb, in a purple version of the Z-Riser pocket dimension. He takes on the form of the fusion monster Zeppandon and is clearly using this fight as an opportunity to size up the abilities of the young Ultra. He teleports around and taunts at the heroic giant. Zett, even with the new power of the spear, initially gets overpowered but Haruki recalls Yokoās words about pride in their jobs fighting monsters and that encourages Zett enough to earn them a second wind. The final act of the fight is marked by one of my favorite tropes in anything, the showās opening theme song kicking in, as they strike a final blow against Jugglerās giant monster form.
This episode, even apart from the glee I got from the official reveal of Juggler, is easily the most exciting so far. Ultraman Zās episodes have all been pretty action oriented in their own way, but the displays of determination from Yoko and Haruki make this a highlight of how both characters operate under fire (or ice in this case.) Tying what was already a solid setup into this episodeās main advancement of the overall arc for the series has me more than ready to see what comes next, especially as this episode ends on Juggler clearly being pleased with the outcome of his fight with Zett and the preview for next time showing the return of my favorite hero in this entire franchise, Ultraman Geed.

Come closer if you dare,
āØCall me Imp, a multidimensional being who has made it her mission to travel through various dimensions in order to post her humble request on this website. Nahā¦ just kidding, but you may still call me Imp ;) I am a lady in her twenties who has a penchant for roleplaying, writing, and drawing. You know, the Holy Trinity. I am a huge nerd and aesthetic lover boy - plain and simple. One of my main passions is video-games, illustrating, comics, live-action films, series and anime/cartoon shows, something I grew up and eventually fell in love with. āØāØA friend recommended me to post an ad on this website and so I eventually figured, why not give it a shot? It couldnāt be any worse than receiving no messages at all. Iāve been roleplaying for a few years now and gradually gathered a good amount of experience throughout the years, but it's always fun to meet and learn something new. Name: Imp Age: 27 years Experience: 11 years Preferences: 1:1 Roleplaying Partner: Should be at least [18+], but I rather much prefer my counterpart to be 21 years or older EMAIL: [email protected] I am a very creative sort of individual with hundreds of ideas constantly swarming through in my head. And I am very spontaneous too, so I can always adjust to a new setting, depending on how good and compelling the concept is. āØInspirations come from various sources and origins, be it a fandom (an already existing universe) or an original storyline. Please read through these paragraphs before you decide to contact me! It's important to avoid any misunderstanding later! And I would less likely respond to a message with the title āHey, wanna rp?ā, since I hadnāt had any good experiences with these said messages.Ā Thank you. Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā·.Ā°Ā·..Ā·Ā°ĀÆĀ°Ā·._.Ā· ā„ Ā·._.Ā·Ā°ĀÆĀ°Ā·.Ā·Ā° .Ā·Ā°Ā°Ā° Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā·.Ā°Ā·..Ā·Ā°ĀÆĀ°Ā·._.Ā· ā„ Ā·._.Ā·Ā°ĀÆĀ°Ā·.Ā·Ā° .Ā·Ā°Ā°Ā° Communication: Itās certainly chill. You can talk to me about whatever occupies your mind since I am very open and always happy to listen to others. I also tend to be chatty, sharing a meme every now and to loosen up the mood. If you consider choosing me as your roleplaying partner, be sure to maintain a certain consistency. I have nothing against going on a longer break or even a hiatus, but the whole `ghosting stickĀ“ is something I have no patience for. So if youāre unsure of upholding a stable, long term partnership, feel free to skim past this ad. Plotting: Also very important to note! I am fairly quick when it comes to building new characters, concepts, premises, storylines, backstories, etcā¦ This means there is certain flexibility available which allows me to adjust more often than not. Even though this is a hobby, I am still extremely passionate about good storytelling and interesting character arcs. I hope to meet someone who is just as enthusiastic and willing to put in the same amount of effort as I am. If itās only me who's pulling all the weight, I will lose interest fast, just to get it out there. Aside from that, I love going a little crazy with the possibilities and push things to their absolute limits. Of course within the boundaries of the given setting. Pairing & Romance: Okay, right off the bat, I am a hopeless romantic through and through. I enjoy good and strong chemistry between characters just as much as the next, and this will be no exception. I prefer the good olā MxF pairing because I have more experience with this. But I also like playing a FxF dynamic or MxM. Everyone is welcome! When it comes to pairing itself, I want to make sure our creations are compatible, for I hate forcing characters into a romantic relationship for the sake of progression. A natural flow is what I am aiming for. ;) Mature? Yes, very mature:Ā Adult and taboo topics are absolute. Thereās no way around it because, in my stories, itās a running theme. The adult world is not easy to handle, but itās interesting to explore. That includes violence, cursing, shocking content, and all that dark stuff. My limits are few, safe for a couple of minor pet peeves that I have, I am pretty much open to some experimentation. When it comes to action-heavy scenes (be it an intimate situation between two characters or something on a cataclysmic scale), I wonāt fade to black since I am not a huge fan of censoring. However, I will not force or push my partner into something they are not comfortable with. If you want to know the extent to how far I am willing to go, what sort of content or how detailed my writing will be, you can ask me directly. As for smut or lemons, whatever you call it, it will never be the focus of any of my roleplays, but I enjoy a good erotic scene with a lot of tension (if they are good). Boundaries: Not a big fan of things like pedophilia, necrophilia, scat, bestiality, and those dreaded āfutasā. Inspirations and interests: Thereās a pretty broad spectrum that I deem interesting and inspirational. From fallen angels and demon/monster hunters, mages, criminal masterminds, cybernetically enhanced characters to futuristic dystopian settings, ancient kingdoms who have fallen against the test of time. All of it causes my heart to skip a beat. For original content, Iāll just give a brief list of bullet points of the general themes that fall in line with my interests. Writing: My texts are lengthy, detailed, and elaborate. Third-person is usually my preferred way of playing my character unless thereās a special case where an exception can be made. Word count usually fluctuates, though I have a standard form of 400-500+ words per response. It also highly depends on the given situation. I donāt want to set anything in stoneā¦ just to give you a basic idea of what youāre in for. I also expect my partner to have an at least adequate, if not decent grasp on basic grammar and punctuation. Doubling: Yes, absolutely! If you are prone to doubling, chances are I might accept you as my partner straight away! Although I have nothing against the simple form of roleplaying, doubling is something Iāve done since my first time joining. Characters: Very character-driven with the main focus being on interaction. I take my time writing characters and love nothing more than well-structured sheets that illustrate the vision of its creator. Of course, thereās no need to write 10-20 pages worth of character information, but I wouldnāt want to limit you either. As for the depiction of the given character, I wonāt be as presumptuous as to tell you what sort of medium you can and cannot use. Face claims such as photos of real models, illustrations, 3D models, drawings or descriptions are all okay. As long as it gets its point across, I am happy. Aversions: A few minor things that irritate me, or let's say, arenāt really my style are one-liners, low effort responses and out of character behaviors in canon characters. We all have different takes on characters, which is totally fine by me since I basically do the same. Though if the character acts and behaves unlike their personality dictates, it will break the immersion. I hope to stay true to my own words when saying this. If it happens on my side, just let me know! Another pet peeve of mine is that one plot that has been done time and time againā¦. and Iāve grown quite jaded towards it, which is āsupernaturals trying to fit into human societyā thingā¦ I mean, Iām not opposed to borrowing from this idea, but for me, it grew old pretty fast. Speaking from experience. ;( Passione: My wish is to find a partner whom I can have a good time with and develop some chemistry. After all it is a fun hobby. We both should have fun with what weāre writing. Brainstorming among other things is one of my favorite things to do. To see how things unfold and how the characters react to the given situation is the highlight of any story. Worldbuilding is my preferred cup of teaā¦ but if we opt for something more fandom inspired, I highly welcome in on expanding on the given universe and add some original lore too!
Hellsing: Havenāt done that one before and I am curious as to how things play out, especially in such a dark and mystifying universe like Hellsing. Thereās a lot of subject matter that we can delve into, plus I am a big fan of powerful vampire characters!
Jojoās Bizarre Adventure: I would love you for this. No, seriously, I would. This fandom has sucked me into a downward spiral and thereās no possible chance of escaping this inescapable void. The absolute insanity of this franchise had me hooked from the second I laid eyes on it and I would be forever ecstatic if youād message me on behalf of roleplaying Jojo. I have plenty of ideas for this one, just you wait.
Full Metal Alchemist: One of my favorite mangas and animes ever made. Recently Iāve begun rewatching FMA Brotherhood and felt a small hint of nostalgia swelling inside my blackened heart. Iād be open to play it, though it is not one of my top cravings at the moment.
Justice League / Young Justice / Justice League Dark: Huge DC fan, though I much prefer the animations and comics over the live-action cinematic. Let's just say, I like the expansive and dynamic set of possibilities and deep, well-written cast. For instance Hellblazer Constantine or Raven. Ā
Bayonetta: Need I say more? Letās dance boys!
APH Hetalia: That includes the 2P version ;)

Supernatural: From angels to demons, from gods to monsters, Iāve seen it all and I absolutely love it. There can be any sort of creature or being involved, ranging from vampires to sirens to elves, you have it. However, Iāve never done something quite relating to angelic beings and their offspring before. Iāve read up on Nephilim and angels and found it rather fascinating, and itās a different approach from the usual vampire vs werewolf cliche.
Crime and intrigue: I never stray too far from the supernatural path, but hell, thereās nothing better than some good old gritty mafia inspired stories with a complex cast of characters and a solid storyline.
Sci-fi and urban fantasy: So this could be basically anything from genetically engineered superhuman (superheroes / - villains) with a dark take on the human psyche, dismantling the idea of heroism and villainy. Or a world where mankind began their interstellar journey to colonize neighboring planets, galaxies before transcending their own humanity by merging themselves with deadly technology. I have a few plans for thisā¦
Historical and mysterious setting: So one of my favorite eras is the Victorian time period, 30s - 40s - 80s, Renaissance or Ancient times during the rise of the Egyptian / Roman / Sumerian Empire. During these times, a dark discovery was made by man, learning that they were not alone in this world. In fact, they werenāt even the supreme race that destined themselves to dominate the world, for another race of humanoids have lied dormant deep beneath the earth, slumbering through the millennia only to be re-awakened by a cataclysmic event. These ancient humanoids are gods among men, superior in every way imaginable, and they have made it their mission to reclaim their right to rule. But their nature is not what most people think it isā¦

Since youāre an LM Montgomery fan, what are your thoughts on The Blue Castle? And regarding Emily Starr, do you have an opinion on Dean vs Teddy? (As an adult, I feel like Perry was very unappreciated by the narrative - I quite like his and Ilseās romance).
I havenāt read The Blue Castle in yearsā¦I read it around the time I read Pat of Silver Bush and I kind of remember just being like whatever about it, in a very foolish and youthful sort of manner.Ā (I was young and silly.) Anne and Emilyās stories were a lot more accessible to me then, partly because they are also young girls at the beginning of their stories.Ā
So, I went and found a copy of it online and reread itā¦quickly, it must be admitted, but I wanted to be able to give an updated impression!Ā
I enjoyed it a lot more as a single, adult woman. Valancyās family was hysterical. Montgomery definitely taught me how to write double-edged family banter, thatās for sure. The heart thing was a bit melodramatic and unsubtle, but I thought the ending was so sweet and heartwarmingā¦I definitely teared up a few times (Iām a sucker for how Montgomery describes love.) Anyway, I donāt have as many ācriticalā thoughts on it yet as I do about Anne and Emily, having only read it twice as opposed to at least thirty times, but I would love to hear your take!Ā
Now, Dean vs. Teddyā¦
Of course I was all for Teddy and Emilyās romance, and as a preteen/teenager obviously was weirded out by thirty-something Dean hanging all over twelve-year old Emily. As an adult, I understand whatās going on with their relationship a lot better than I did when I was eleven, but alsoā¦heās so much older than her!Ā
I think Montgomery lays out all the fundamental problems with Dean as a romantic partner for Emily pretty early in the story, and those problems never go away. And the context of their romance, when it becomes an official romance, is also very telling, considering Emilyās mental state. The intellectual control Dean exerts over Emily makes me very uncomfortable, and the age gap has a lot to do that. I would argue that another part of their arc is Emily learning how to face Dean as a thinking adult in her own right. And heās extremely possessive of her and very jealous of her time in a way that Teddy is not. And heās mean about her writing! Get over yourself, Dean.Ā
Certain dimensions of the Dean/Emily relationship always felt a bit transplanted from a different novel, like some sort of late-Victorian gothic āBeauty and the Beastā tropeā¦because Dean is physically ādisfiguredā in a way, and Emily is constantly presented with this star-like, otherworldly beauty (of a kind), but I have no sense of how valid that impression is, Iām not a literary scholar by any means.Ā
Ultimately, Montgomery does a good job of showing why Emily is so drawn to Dean, and what his friendship represents to her, but also how his love for her is a kind of fundamentally frightening thing to Emily. I think she also nails her presentation of the fundamental difference between a very mature friendship (upon which you could base a successful marriage, if you wanted to or had to) and a romance. If Dean were not so possessive of Emily as a person, and if Teddy never existed, she and Dean might have been very happy together, in spite of the age difference.Ā
As a character, though, we get to know Dean more than we get to know Teddy, and at the end of day, their relationship is a lot more layered and complex than Emily and Teddyās. Teddy suffers from Montgomeryās tendency to back-burner her male characters once they become full-blown romantic prospects, as part of her own ambivalency about those dimensions of her novels (see: Gilbert Blythe practically disappearing from the Anne novels after Anne of the Islandā¦ugh). Their friendship is fleshed out decently well in Emily of New Moon, and there is that lovely, evocative, infuriating scene in the churchyard in Emily Climbs, which I think actually does a good job at giving us a glimpse into Teddyās mindset. After that, his feelings about Emily, his career, their relationship, all of that isnāt really communicated to the reader. His whole side of the Teddy/Ilse relationship is infuriatingly opaque while itās actually happening, and we only get a really brief explanation of it at the very end of Emilyās Quest. Whither Teddy? I think heās a much better partner for Emily than Dean would be, but thereās so much more Montgomery could have done to turn it into a more multi-dimensional romantic relationship.Ā
And Iām with youāI would absolutely read an entire series about Perryās adventures in politics, and particularly his and Ilseās relationship. We get a pretty good sense of how Ilse feels about him, but nothing really from Perryās viewpoint! Whatās their backstory?! What about all the moments when Perry forgot about Emily and thought Ilse was the best person heād ever met? What happened on their moonlit car ride?! Ahhhhhh. Someone needs to give Perry and Ilse the Pride and Prejudice spin-off treatment (which is published fanfiction, yāall, itās a legitimate literary endeavor) and publish a novel about their side of the story.
To close, one of my favorite quotes from Emilyās Quest (that I think also has some Dan/Amy overtones.)Ā
āAnd Emily was thinkingācould not help thinkingāof the time that she and Teddy had sat there. The odd part was that she did not think of him lovingly or longingly. She just thought of him. Would she, she asked herself, in mingled exasperation and dread, find herself thinking of Teddy when she was standing up to be married to Dean?ā
So good.Ā

FILM-REVIEW #4: Return of the Jedi (1983)
As I stated in an earlier review, many Star Wars-fans consider the third installment in the original trilogy to be the weakest one. This is a bit awkward, since I consider it my personal favorite in the entire series. So what is it about this movie that has led me to elevate it to this status? Well, besides the fact it was the first main Star Wars-movie I ever saw, there's several other things about it that still has a greater appeal to me, even more so than The Empire Strikes Back (1980).
THE PLOT IS AS FOLLOWS: "A year has passed since the abduction of Han Solo, and his friends are doing everything in their power to save him from the clutches of the dastardly gangster Jabba the Hutt. In the meantime, the empire has kept itself busy with the construction of a new Death Star, which is looked over by the evil emperor. The heroes see this as an opportunity to put and end to the empire once and for all, by destroying the incomplete planet-destroyer and it's leader along with it. Luke Skywalker, now a full-fledged jedi knight, also has to ready himself to again face the fearsome Darth Vader in a final struggle, that may very well decide the future fate of the galaxy."
So where lies the great appeals of this movie? Well for one thing, each of the main characters evolved in a veryy threedimensional degree, in the way you would expect characters that has had three movies worth of adventures and hardships. One really feels that they have come quite a bit since we first saw them. Han Solo is now a brave commander, but is not above getting frustrated and annoyed in the highly entertaining Harrison Ford-way. Leia still kicks ass, but she also shows a more gentle and friendly side. However, the most signifant case of development would have to be with Luke, who having gone from being kind of a brat in A New Hope (1977), now displays an almost zen-like calm and confidence in his fighting capabilities and his usage of the force. However, he still displays strong feelings of compassion and anger, which gives him a lot of humanity. With Darth Vader it's no different, who while as threathening as before, feels like he through his connection with Luke has suddenly gained new dimensions. While he is still clearly not a good guy, he is succesfully depicted in a more sympathetic light without it feeling like a retcon of his role in the previous films. This works partially because of his connection with Luke, but also because when standing next to the menacing and insidious emperor Palpatine, he feels like the lesser evil in the room. It is also intriguing to see someone like Luke, basically the white knight, see that there's still hope for him, the dark knight. Nobody else but Luke can see this, not even Darth Vader himself believes there's anything good still in him, which creates a strong dynamic between the two.
There's almost a swashbuckling sort of feeling to the action scenes. The scene were Luke is fighting his way across Jabba's ship, dodging laser blasts, swinging his sword and pushing alien criminals off the ship has the grand inventiveness of a really good Errol Flynn-film. Then there's what I consider the best lightsaber duel in the original trilogy, between Luke and Vader. Besides the choreography being at least as impressive as in the last film, there's just so much emotion between them as they fight; you really get the feeling of the stakes being so fricking high at this point that everything hangs on the outcome of it.
It is also here where we see the most creature-effects. The scenes in Jabba's palace alone is full of alien species, some with designs so out of the box that they feel like they could be a part of someones fever-dream. As a big fan of inventive creature design, this really speaks to me. And speaking of effects, the space battles are really phenomenal to see here. The sequence where the Falcon flies through the interior of the second Death Star is amazing; its mind-boggling that this scene were accomplished using mainly practical effects with only a little polish added to it. Though while we're at it, the Special Edition-changes here range between subtle and well-done, to downright cringe-worthy. For instance, while I can understand that they wanted to make the sarlacc-pit a bit more intimidating and animated, I don't think adding a trunk with a duckmouth was such a good idea.
The movie, as expected, does have a fair share of flaws. While it doesn't quite have the slow pace of A New Hope, it does drag on with several detours in the story, such as when they save Han Solo. While this part of the movie is awesome, it does go on a little too long and doesn't really connect all that much to the rest of the movie. There's also the issue of repeat: destroying another super-destroyer weapon feels a bit repetitive. Ā Another common critique is against the Ewoks, who are basically tribal Carebears with a hankering for human flesh. Based on that sentence alone though I have to say they've never really bothered me that much because they add something to the story, fighting against the empire in inventive ways. Though when one really thinks about it, having a bunch of teddybears being what ultimately overpowers the empire, which has been established as this really threathening, fascist force of power, it does feel a little too cute. It's like having the muppets beat up the third reich; it's a bit hard to take it seriously.
All in all, is it the ultimate conclusion that one could have had to this trilogy? Even die hard Star Wars-fans usually say no, but for all the little flaws that adds up here, all the strengths add up to a much bigger pile in my opinion.
Another thing worth mentioning though is the sort of post-critique one could add to this movie and it's ending now knowing what will happen to the characters in the sequels. I will be brief about that here, since it feels more appropriate to deal with that in the reviews of respective installments. One thing in particular that fans like to bring up about the sequels in relation to this installment in particular is that it kind of ruins what is ultimately a happy ending. While I can't say I don't understand what they mean, I still always assumed that if they were to make direct sequels, that would be what we'd be in for. It is called Star WARS after all, and if you're going back to war, it feels logival that some things don't end with a happily ever after. I don't think the fates of the characters in the Legends-continuity were like that either. If one keeps in mind that these are not just fantasy-films, but also war-films, I think it makes more sense. At least... From a certain point of view. Ā
With that said, the original trilogy finishes up with a rating of 8 out o 10. ---

EPISODE IX PREDICTIONS, HOPES, & DISCUSSION
This is a deep dive into the thoughts and questions Iāve been accumulating in regards to what might happen in Episode IX. (Sorry, itās quite a long post).
My character predictions:
KYLO/BEN: My beautiful boy Ben is going to get redemption first and foremost. FACT. Iām so excited to see how it will go down though, so many possibilities. Whatās going to be that final catalyst for Ben to finally stop resisting the Light? When we left Kylo/Ben in TLJ he had gained all the power he once sought, and yet he was utterly miserable. But, importantly Luke showing up on Crait offered Kylo that critical cathartic release he needs for the next step in his redemption journey. Looking back, TFA started with Kylo ordering a village massacre, and finished with him killing his father. We see progress in TLJ, as the act of committing patricide has been eating Kylo/Ben alive with regret and guilt, he then later cannot kill his mother, and instead he kills his tormentor, Snoke, to save Rey. So following this pattern of reversal, I predict in IX heāll selflessly save a large group of people (the direct opposite of the original village massacre). Itās going to be so interesting to see how will he go with being The Supreme Leader of The First Order, as the evidence shows his ideology doesnāt really align with the Order. I feel like heāll simply keep using The First Order for the sole purpose of destroying his motherās Resistance, in a fruitless attempt to ākill his pastā. Ultimately though, this story is about achieving balance between the Light and the Dark, not just in the force or the galaxy but also in oneself. Ben will need to accept the Light and the Dark sides in himself, and will have to come to this conclusion completely via his own initiative. Han (via Leiaās push), Luke, and Rey have all tried to convince him to the Light so far, to no avail.
REY: Strong Rey has been through a hell of a lot with Kylo/Ben in both films, and Luke in TLJ. Sheās had to face her deepest fear that sheās ānobodyā and that her parents āarenāt coming back for herā. But despite this she has actually found belonging and empowerment along the way. Her self identity is in fact stronger than ever now (while Kylo/Ben is the opposite, heās still having an identity crisis). I predict that in IX, Rey will be just as fearless and resilient as ever, but also more mature, less naive. Her relationship with the Resistance is interesting because in TFA Finn was lying to her about him belonging to the Resistance, so she was never actively apart of it, and then she was kidnapped by Kylo. Similarly, she sought Luke out for Leia (and the Resistance) in TLJ, but this was mostly a personal journey she undertook. She pursued turning Kylo/Ben to the Light, āfor the Resistanceās sakeā, but it was ultimately for her own sake. So I think that she might not completely feel like she belongs in the Resistance. Itās a sure thing, that sheāll still try to help them out how she can, but I predict itāll once again be on her own āforceā related solo mission (because this fits her film narrative formula). This may be how she crosses paths with Kylo again? Also related to the Resistance, I have this gut feeling that she may clash heads with Poe over his decision making (IDK why, I just do). In terms of other predictions, it seems to be a given that sheāll repair the legacy Skywalker lightsaber, this is what Rey has done her whole life, salvage and repair. In regards to Ben, sheās learnt her lesson, and I truly believe she hasnāt given up on him, she just now knows that it has to be HIS decision to join the Light Side, she canāt ask him again ā it wonāt work. Like the TLJ novel states, sheās good at waiting, so deep down sheāll be waiting for him to eventually make the right decision. Also another prediction for Rey, is that the arm scar she got during the Throne Room fight will feature prominently in at least one on screen moment. I imagine it will go something like, sheās getting ready putting her satchel on etc, and looks down at her arm and remembers Ben/Kylo and that epic moment they fought together. Now Rey has a scar to remember him, and he too has one to remember her. ~swoons~ The recent costume leak (re: arm band) seem to support this scarās significance further, but I initially thought that the scar would be important because LF chose to feature it on the damn TLJ poster.
THE WAR/THE BALANCE: This is the final film in the sequel trilogy, and this series is called āStar Warsā so Iām predicting more war, duh. However, weāve already seen the Light side win over the Dark in the original trilogy, but it didnāt work ā the Dark still rose back up. Thatās why, this time round somethingās got to be different. The Resistance canāt just defeat The First Order, I donāt think thatās going to cut it. TLJ expressed the nuisances of war, with the Resistance bombers and members dying, and also the large First Order crew who wouldāve died on the dreadnaught. It really stuck with me what DJ said to Finn, āThey blow you up today, you can blow them up tomorrowā. Maybe this wasnāt a precursor for IX, and was just Rian being Rian. But I still predict that Rey and Ben will team up again in this movie, but stay together this time, and they willĀ initiate something like a ceasefire between the two sides, ending the vicious endless cycle of war that has plagued the galaxy for decades now. Ben and Rey are āthe chosen oneā who will finally bring balance to the Force. It will be very interesting to see how this balance will be portrayed in a larger galactic scale.
FINN: Donāt get me wrong, I love my boy Finn, but to be honest on paper he is quite a one dimension character in regards to how heās treated in these films. LF couldāve focused on his traumatic upbringing in The First Order and his emotions towards his ex-fellow troopers. Instead they have brushed past it, having Finn gunning down Storm Troopers with no second thought. (I guess they have the traumatic childhoods of Rey and Kylo to focus on instead). So the only prediction I have for him is that he will truly earn the title of āResistance Heroā in IX. Because in both the TFA and TLJ, he either left or tried leaving to save himself or save Rey, but by the end of TLJ he was finally committed to fighting for the Resistanceās cause (due largely to Roseās influence).
POE: Poe was originally supposed to die in TFA, and in that movie he was really just a pilot (āthe best one in the Resistanceā though). In TLJ, he was still a pilot, but also shown to be cocky and impulsive, so the aim of TLJ was to teach him how to become a better leader, like Leia etc. So no doubt, in IX heāll be making much better leadership calls, and assessing the risks more wisely. HOWEVER, it has been pointed out before how Poe, somewhat corrupts Holdoās line of āWe are the spark that will ignite the fire that will restore the Republicā, into āWe are the spark that will light the fire that will burn the First Order downā this leads me to the juicy personal prediction (that probably wonāt happen but...) maybe Poe in IX will turn into a āCoinā like character, from the Hunger Games. Where Poe makes some very destructive calls, because he takes the war waaaay too far. Iām imagining this being Poe vs Hux, and it just keeps escalating and escalating in bloodshed. Hey, like I said, this probably wonāt eventuate.
HUX: It seems obvious at this point that Hux is going to fail spectacularly again, for the third and final time. In TFA, his precious Starkiller Base was blown up. In TLJ, a dreadnought was destroyed under his watch, and then he lost his chance to become Supreme Leader as quickly as the opportunity arose. I predict that once heās surrendered heāll either sit there hilariously glaring everyone down, or pull the weasel move and beg/plead for his life. Regardless, itāll be entertaining. Some might think that Hux is a serious military threat, and maybe in this film he might finally rise to the occasion. But throughout TLJ in particular, he was a laughing stock, and being completely honest Hux poses no serious threat to Kylo Ren. Kylo could end Huxās life with the force or his saber, or both, within a mere second. WATCH YA BACK HUX. In all seriousness though, Hux will probably take every opportunity to undermine Kyloās leadership ā I know that. Man, do love their hate-hate colleague working relationship.Ā
Iām looking forward to:
More Reylo scenes ā need I say more?
More Force Bond sessions, because we damn well know it aināt gone
Seeing Kylo Ren The Supreme Leader, acting as such, sitting in his throne, and ya know just generally running The First Order (eeeeep!)
Simply seeing more Kylo scenes in general, because let's be real, Kylo/Rey/Finn are the true trio, and this is the final movie so this is our chance to finally see more of his POV. This will also be crucial to the redemption story too, as the general audience will probably need a lot more information about him to be onboard for his redemption
My favourite comedy duo Poe and Finn will be back together again at last! I cannot wait for the new banter and shenanigans with these two
John Williamsā amazing final SW score
All the new costumes/hair styles (Itās very wishful thinking but I would low-key love if the characters changed costumes at PadmĆ©'s rate)
I know the sequel trilogy hasnāt had the largest scale of cityscape world-building, but ya never know!
Iām one of those people that fell in love with the Knights of Ren during that brief rainy flashback in TFA, so hopefully they make an appearance, after all whatās a āMasterā of Ren without those he masters?
Iām curious to see:
What kind of leader will Kylo be of the First Order? And how is his leadership in general is tracking, is it threatened (i.e. Hux)?
How will Finn and the rest of the Resistance react to Rey being a āJediā? in TFA everyone except Kylo (and the FO, I guess) were ignorant to the fact that Rey was Force Sensitive. Obviously the resistance noticed Rey force lifting rocks at the end of TLJ, so now theyāre all in the loop. Will Finn think sheās āchangedā? (This is specifically discussed by Finn and Rose in the TLJ novel actually)
Similarly, how will the resistance react to Rey being connection to Kylo, both emotionally and via the force? (They are undeniably connected now thanks to TLJ). How will they react if they ever find out about the Throne Room? ~This is so juicy to consider~
How romantic will Reylo actually be on screen? Will there be an epic kiss? (God, I hope so)
Will Leia survive this trilogy? Han and Luke havenāt, so thereās that...
Will we get the āreturn to motherā moment (re: reverse Anidala), of Kylo and Leia? If she doesnāt die, this seems like a no brainer
Will the Jedi teachings (the ancient texts) even be a big deal in IX? Luke wasnāt their biggest fan after all. What opinion will Rey take?
What role will Rose play within the resistance this time round? I think itās going be more prominent; e.g. sheāll be at the decisions making table alongside Poe, Finn, and Leia
Will there be any tie-back to the āoriginalā chosen one, Anakin, to bring this story full circle? Anakin was supposed to ābring balance to the Forceā after-all (even though we know Ben and Rey are going to do this)
If the KoR are in IX, will they be Kyloās blindly pledged allies, and then during his redemption journey will they turn into foes?
With Snoke, the āman behind the curtainā puppeteer style villain being gone, does there need to be a new threat/villain? Is there room for that in the story this late in the game?
Will there be more Force Ghosts in IX, now that Yoda has set a precedent by appearing in TLJ?
If/when Rey and Ben team up again, how will this be possible this time round with Kylo being Supreme Leader of The First Order? Will he chose to leave the Order, or be forced to leave early on in the film?
With Rey and Ben united, will we see some new awesome powerful Force moments? Like how Leia rescued herself in TLJ, or how Kylo froze Poeās blaster fire, or hell, how Force Ghost Yoda conducted lighting?!

You Asked, I Told
Hello, everyone! I will have anotherĀ 20k chapter of Baghdad Waltz posting tomorrow, but in the meantime, here are answers to some intriguing Asks you sent me.Ā
CW for some discussion of sexual assault. Spoilers for BW through Chapter 34.
Oh, thank you so much! I love writing these and other secondary characters and giving them life and a backstory that will probably never, ever see the light of day. I have enough head canon to write whole side fics for both Winnie and Rikki. I love Winnie in particular, though I know she can be a divisive character. Winnie has not been a perfect mother, even though (like pretty much every mother) she has tried her best, which is one reason I really enjoy writing her. I usually see Winnie written in fic as either a straight saint or, less often, a villain, so I wanted to give her some more dimension. I will keep up with these characters as the fic continues!
A COUPLE OF SHARON QUESTIONS:
Wow, good catch! Yes, this was mentioned one time back in Chapter 17, when Sharon first disclosed to Steve that she was pregnant. As with many of the things like this that I throw in the fic, it serves multiple purposes.
First, I included this biographical information because of how common sexual violence is ā at least 1 in 6 women will be victims of sexual violence in their lifetime. I wanted to also show that a) it can happen to ātoughā women, which we would likely argue Sharon is/was, as an Army Reserve Officer attending the University of Virginia, and b) even though she still blames herself (at least to some degree) for ālettingā it happen, sheās still an overall well adjusted person who can have healthy, intimate, functional relationships, a successful career, and good self-esteem. This hasnāt ruined her life, and I think thatās an important counter message to have in a fic thatās so laden with characters who suffer deeply and chronically with their trauma. Trauma doesnāt always end in PTSD -Ā in fact, statistically, it usually doesnāt.Ā This will likely come up again later in the fic in another context as well.
Thank you! Iām so glad youāre enjoying the read! As to whether Steve feels trapped by SharonĀ re: fatherhood, I imagine the details are a bit fuzzy to remember, because itās been so long since that part of the fic, but I doubt he feels that way. He knows that Sharon has always been lukewarm about the family stuff while he has been dreaming about kids since he was, well, a kid. He knows that she didnāt intend to get pregnant and only got that way because her birth control failed due to an unintended interaction with St. Johnās Wort (an herb with antidepressant properties she took to avoid going to behavioral health while he was deployed). As for deciding to keep the baby after becoming attached to it while she was pregnant, despite her previous lack of interest in being a mother, he likely wouldnāt have hard feelings against her for that.
If anything, I imagine Steve probably blames himself for having sex with her while he was home on leave, having just cheated on her with Bucky and not disclosing his cheating prior to having the sex that led to this kid in the first place. Had he told her as soon as he got home, she surely would have told him to go kick rocks, and there would be no Ethan. But he was scared and irresponsible and they were drunk... and now here they are.Ā
And although Ethan certainly feels chaotic and stressful for him because kids can feel that way and because he gets overwhelmed easily, heās wanted to be a father for so long that he likely sees Ethan as a strong motivator for him to recover from PTSD and the effects of TBI. Certainly a much stronger motivator than Bucky, because in his mind, Bucky can fuck off and cheat on him or abandon him a thousand times over, but Ethan will always be his son. And even though he struggles to be the kind of father that he wants to be, Ethan and fatherhood is at least something very tangible for him to work toward.
Great questions! Thank you!
Ah yes, itās hard to tell whatās going on with their relationship now, because itās Bucky, who is at times a horribly unreliable narrator. Heās got so much baggage around the Army and not being part of it anymore, and thereās this piece about Sam having the career he wishes he could still have, and Sam having the personal life he could have had with Natasha in some bizarre permutation of reality. And Sam has been deployed, so heās probably not able to talk much, and Bucky has terrible attachment problems and interprets behaviorā¦ not always very realistically. So he might interpret Samās distance (logistical, because heās busy, because they have less to talk about, because they are moving in different directions) as a sign that their friendship was āweirdā or that Bucky is āgrossā or whatever Bucky is assuming because heās going through his own shit right now. In short, itās very possible that Bucky is projecting a lot of his personal stuff onto Sam, like assuming that a pretty normal phase of life transition is actually a sign that heās being rejected.
But there is a separate issue of Buckyās friendships getting physical and having these blurred boundaries with friendships. Thereās yet-undisclosed stuff in the past that heās referring to, so unfortunately you canāt see that yet, but heās drawing on that, and heās looking at this cuddling behavior (the āsnack cakeā scene etc.), and Iāll go ahead and say it, since it may never make it into the narrative, but Bucky would definitely have fucked Sam, if he showed even the slightest genuine sexual interest. Bucky has a bad track record with making good friendships in general, and almost all of his close friendships end up getting sexual or para-sexual. Take Steve. They had a pretty intensely physical friendship that got para-sexual and then sexual, and, interestingly, the intimacy that they shared in their friendship also took a nosedive when they really got sexual, but thatās another matter entirely.
So to answer your question, Bucky and Sam didnāt do anything explicitly sexual, but I think Bucky knows he would have, and now that heās learning about boundaries in DBT, heās probably wondering about theirs, and heās looking at these patterns in his life right now, and heās also just scrambling to figure out why theyāre not good friends anymore. I mean, he also really just misses him and the Army, and heās mourning for both. Heās kind of flailing around here, and that could be another reason why this doesnāt seem to make a lot of sense. But you didnāt miss anything. Heās mostly wrapping himself around the axil over something that may or may not even be a thing. [sigh]
In other words, is Steve a Buckysexual, so to speak? I also am a bisexual person, and I take my bisexual characters pretty seriously (hoo boy). I can see why this might be a big question in peopleās minds, because we havenāt seen a very broad swathe of Steveās sexuality in this fic. Heās very much a monogamist who tends towards longer term relationships, if he can help it (not a guy who does casual fucks well, obvs). We started the fic proper while he was in a relationship with Sharon, then he went to Bucky, and then his sexuality went into hibernation, and now heās climbing out of that, and weāve had references to girlfriends in the past peppered along the way.
Iād classify Steve as a late-blooming bisexual. He graduated high school at 16, so he was really coming more fully into his sexuality after he left that environment, and thatās when his interest in Bucky started to fire up. Bucky was the first male he fixated on sexually, which parlayed into a sexual relationship for almost 2 years but then flamed out. Then Steve went into a long sexual hibernation after his mother died and he felt jilted by Buckyās perceived abandonment, but then he was at the U.S. Military Academy, surrounded by hot young men at their peak fitness andā I will not say more specifically, because this is probably actually going to be addressed in the fic.Ā
But let it suffice to say that Steve is notĀ a Buckysexual. One could also look at the way he fantasized about Bucky in the coffee house to see some clues to his sexual interest in other men. He wasnāt just into Bucky - he was into all these other guys too, jerking off while watching, all the dicks on the wall.... you know. He has had more relationships with women, so behaviorally he would seem to lean more toward women, but I would not say that women are necessarily his default preference. If Bucky were not in his life and they split to opposite corners of the Earth, never to speak again, I think he would be pretty open about the gender of his parter. As long as they let him put their genitals in his mouth, heād be a happy camper ;)
And FINALLY:Ā
Ah yes, I believe youāre referring to the line āBucky is still an alcoholic, āinterpersonally unskilled,ā deeply imprinted from God knows what traumas, and really, who knows how willing to actually change, if change means being honest and shining light in the dark places heās always kept Steve from, no matter how much heās begged to see them.ā Yes?Ā
So, prior to them separating in 2002, I would say that Bucky and Steveās dynamic probably went a lot like this: Ā
Bucky was pretty contained on the outside most of the time, with periods where the he was a flaming dumpster fire just beneath the surface and brief episodes where he was dysregulated and really struggling obviously. The latter looked like, say, showing up drunk to Steveās and saying cryptic things like āIām disgustingā and sticking his hand up Steveās shirtā¦ or his post-Ground-Zero āfuck me/Iām totally fucking falling apart drunkā thing, etc. Ā And Steve, after these episodes, was probably like, āYou know you can talk to me, right? Please. I just want to help.ā And Bucky most assuredly responded with something like, āIām good thx.ā
I think Steve probably suspected for years that Bucky has stuff from his childhood (he would be absolutely dense not to), but I want to say that he probably both wants to know it and is terrified to know it. So his ābeggingā probably looks like gently imploring in a not too insistent way whenever Bucky does one of these big meltdown-y things. And then when they argue, Steve probably whips out the old, āYou keep everything from me! I donāt know who you are! I have to beg you to tell me anything!ā because thatās how these things usually go down. And Bucky would never volunteer anything and most assuredly lies about many things overtly and lies by omission alllll the time. So yeah, I would say that this a not-so-reliable-narrator situation but with a strong flavor of truth behind it. If that makes any sense at all.Ā
Thank you so much for the wonderful questions!! What a joy to receive them. More tomorrow.Ā
