And Eddie is still, at the moment, with Marisol, so are we really going to taint two of the best characters by making them both cheat on their significant others?

Either way, Bucky decided it was time for him to get you home. He thanked Sam for having the two of you over, and then he helped his extremely intoxicated friend to his bedroom. Once Sam had been taken care of, he returned to the living room where he had left you.

You’re now lying on the ground, staring at the ceiling lights.

“The stars are beautiful tonight,” you say dreamily. “It’s Ursa Major. Look.” You point. Bucky scrunches his eyebrows together.

“That’s the ceiling light.”

You look over at Bucky and shrug before looking back to the lights. Bucky sighs before making his way over to you, reaching down to help you stand.

To those people saying Tevan can't be endgame because Buck needs to explore his sexuality. Assuming Buck and Tommy aren't endgame (again too early to say one way or another) but assuming they aren't Buck doesn't have to sleep around after they break up he can date seriously like he was doing before, now just with this new part of himself on the surface. He could go on dates with men and women. I stand by my point earlier regardless of who it is or what gender they are Buck wants commitment. Who knows maybe when the show is all said and done he marries a woman but that doesn't negate his sexuality or make this point in his life any less valid. We should just be happy that he is happy and living his best most authentic life. That boy deserves a break. I was baffled by this plot direction with Eddie same as you fam...

But I'm also SO intrigued.

Remember how this season started? WIth Christopher two-timing girls from school and Eddie being like "Oh no who did he get this from?"

Chris is emulating his father.

He got this from Eddie.

Not because he thinks his dad is a cheater, but because Eddie has set an example of how relationships with women work.

In Christophers early childhood his dad was always away and his mum was sad and struggling to cope. Then his dad returned and his mum suddenly left. Then his dad brings his mum back as a Christmas gift and bam, suddenly they're a family now. Not a family again, because they never been a family unit before. Everything should be perfect and yet something still feels off.

We know that while Eddie is ready to settle into married life, Shannon is not.

I personally think that when Shannon turned Eddie down, she did it because she knows that if not for Christopher being born, her and Eddie would never have stayed together. That while they love each other and Chris, they were never IN love and she wanted them both to have a chance at happiness.

Actually, come to think of it.... Holy shit... I don't think Eddie has ever BEEN in love.

He married Shannon because she got pregnant and every relationship he's had since then has been an exercise in Eddie trying to cram a new woman into his life and make her fit, only to panic, retreat or self sabotage when she doesn't. Or worse, when she DOES fit and he realises he doesn't love her.

Christopher has grown up and been there for all of this, and it's informing how he handles relationships with girls. As though they are interchangeable. As a means to fit someone into your life and make them your partner rather than find someone you actually like and who makes you happy.

I don't think this it's a coincidence we are where we are now at this point in the show. We've been building to this all season and it needs to happen because otherwise Eddie is going to keep repeating the same pattern over and over and over again for the rest of his life.

Going for 'safe' people he feels like will fill a hole in his heart while never allowing himself to fall in love so that he can never be hurt when they leave or he loses them.

He doesn't love Marisol. He wasn't in love with any of them. I think he loved Shannon but mostly because she was the mother of his child.

Eddie cheating is just another way this cycle is manifesting itself and once again he's going for a woman not because he's interested in who she is or getting to know her...but because she looks like Shannon.

Thinking maybe he can fix the mistakes of the past and be a different version of himself. This version of Shannon won't leave him and he won't abandon her. This one will stick around and yeah he won't love her but it will fix everything and they'll be a family right?

Eddie may not even be consciously aware that he's doing this.

Eddie needs to blow his life up and break this cycle.

Buck was a sex addict because he couldn't deal with his own self worth issues.

Eddie is a serial monogamist who can't let himself fall in love with anyone for fear of being hurt.

The cut scene that posted—Chris telling Eddie that his girlfriend Penny broke up with him—adds a large amount of context to the events in 7x10. I’ve already posted some thoughts about Shannon and Eddie and the lake (here), so let’s talk about Chris and his girlfriend(s) and his relationship with his mother. It explains some up-in-the-air questions that arose from 7x10, particularly why Chris called his grandparents and didn’t call Buck.

In 7x01, Eddie discovers that Chris is dating multiple girls. He asks Buck to talk with him. This brings to light Chris’s feelings about his mother and her leaving Texas, and results in Eddie giving him her letter. The end result (which is really only confirmed by the cut clip), seems to be that Chris followed Buck’s advice and picked one girl to focus his attention on.

Like most middle school relationships, it comes to an end. In the cut scene from 7x09, Chris tells Eddie that Penny (the girl he had over for video games in 7x01) broke up with him. No matter what we, as adults, might think of those cute middle school hand-holding situationships, Chris is most likely devastated. He and Eddie chat, and Eddie ends up telling him about how he met Shannon, at a lake near the Senior Diaz’s house in El Paso. He gives him HOPE that he, too, will find a Shannon one day.

Shortly after this (also in 7x09), Chris walks in on the Ghost of Shannon, standing in his house.

So, in season 7, Chris has received these messages about dating:

“We don’t cheat on girls.” (the conversation with Buck in 7x01)

“Girls actually do leave.” (the breakup revealed during the 7x09 cut scene; Eddie’s confirmation that “They do that.”)

“Dad is a cheater.” (the scene at the end of 7x09)

”All of Dad’s girlfriends leave.” (The off-screen breakup with Marisol, combined with knowing that Shannon left, and the whole Ana thing.)

”What was the point of picking one girl when she was going to leave anyway?” (Combination of 7x01, cut scene, and end scene of 7x09)

He receives these messages about Shannon:

“Mom loved me, but she left anyway.” (The letter in 7x01)

“Dad met Mom when he was my age.” (The cut scene from 7x09)

“Mom came back.” (Season 2; rehashed in 7x01)

“Dad isn’t over Mom.” (Question asked & not answered in 7x09 cut scene; in-his-face takeaway from Kim encounter in 7x09)

“I’m not over Mom.”

So, between the whole drama about the multiple girlfriends and the reactions of Eddie and Buck, and the Dead Mom Trauma in 7x01 (I.e. the letter and his feelings, which he’s found some closure for, but “comforted” doesn’t mean “fixed”), and the things revealed in the 7x09 cut scene, I can really see that the events of 7x09 were the straw that broke the camel’s back, rather than the isolated incident that editing made them appear to be.

That’s why this scene was important. We’ve all been trying to figure out why Chris didn’t go to Buck or why his very good relationship with Eddie didn’t make him think a bit more before going nuclear (I.e. calling his grandparents). But the Penny breakup brings this full circle.

He probably feels as betrayed about the 7x01 conversation (the relationship advice from Buck, which he obviously took and ran with) as he does by his dad’s hypocrisy and by walking in on the Ghost of Shannon. Add to that:

(1) The fact that she (Ghost Shannon) was IN HIS HOUSE (his safe place)

(2) Penny and Marisol are both gone (so why shouldn’t he leave, too)

(3) He’s had a recent reminder of where Shannon was at his age (that lake in Texas)

Well, it makes a lot more sense. Context is everything, and we didn’t really have the full context to interpret Chris’s actions.

i won’t budge from my opinion that buddie has a shot at going canon up until the very last episode, but that doesn’t mean i haven’t also accepted that i may be wrong because the showrunners could opt to never *officially* put them together romantically, hence getting scenes like buck falling asleep on the diaz couch and leaving it open to interpretation (for now). the amount of people going “this thing can’t possibly mean anything but buddie”…all the optimism in the world won’t make it true if it’s not in tim’s long term plans.

"Captain Rogers welcome back Mr. Barnes is in his room and the others are in the common room" "Thank you Friday" Steve was nervous he knew everyone would bombard him with questions on his decision to leave and come back again but at the moment it all can wait he needed to see his love his best friend you first he wanted to tell you everything even the dance he had. So he rushed to Bucky's room knowing you would be there but god he was so wrong he wished he had knocked on the door but he didn't and because of that he was dumbfounded by the view "Bucky? Sharon? what's going what the hell why are you guys Sharon for god sake put your shirt on" Sharon roll her eyes. "Where is Y/n?, Bucky tell me dammit" Bucky was scared of what Steve's reaction would be so he went with the little white lie "We broke up I'm with Sharon now" "What? Broke up? why? you guys were so good, why did you guys break up? And Sharon no Buck you are hiding something" "Steve you have no rights to interfere in our lives they broke up deal with it" Sharon was quick to answer. "I'm not talking to you so shut up!" Steve yelled. "Don't yell Steve, she is right you left us ok you don't know what happened so accept this." Steve was shocked by Bucky's behavior he had never seen Bucky standing up for you like he was for Sharon he immediately knew something was wrong he left the couple behind and went to search others. "Where is Y/n?" "Steve?" Sam rushed to hug his friend, Nat was teary eyes seeing her bestfriend back. "Steve you are back" she hugged him as much as Steve was happy to see them and grateful for them welcoming him back he couldn't stop thinking about you. "Nat please I'm sorry if I'm sounding rude" Nat shook her head finishing his sentence for him "Y/n left for some alone time Steve, she was suffocating here" "Yeah man everyday she was dying here" "What happened after I left?" Sam and Nat told him everything Bucky did and how Tony does not fully know the truth that you hid for Steve's hard work of making him trust Bucky. Steve's heart broke even in pain you didn't think ill of Bucky. "Where is she?" "I'll give you the hotel address and don't worry we let her leave only on the condition she calls us everyday" "Thank you Nat if she calls don't tell her I'm coming to her" Nat nod at him and Steve left for you.

Your head was a mess, your emotions were all over the place you spent the nights crying asking yourself why. You did call the team daily not wanting to go back soon, you locked yourself in your hotel room trying to wrap your head around the entire situation. The love you had just went down the drain like nothing. You had your doubts but we're blinded by his love and now paying the price it's been almost a month you barely ate and slept cold showers did not felt cold. You were lost in your own world when someone knocked on the door and thank god you opened the door you were shocked eyes glossy as soon as you whispered "Steve" he was quick to hold you in his arms as you cried and fisted his shirt, when Steve saw the state you were in his heart broke. He couldn’t help but feel guilty after all he was the one to introduce you two only for you to suffer. "Why did he do this to me Steve why?" Steve kept rubbing your back to comfort you "Everything hurts Steve please make it stop take my heart out I can't take it no more Steve please help me stop this pain" Steve's heart broke completely he blamed himself if he had not left you would have not been in this situation but that does not mean he didn't learn from his mistake seeing you beg him to stop your pain Steve silently promise to protect you and heal your heart he swear he will not let anyone hurt you not even his best friend Bucky on that day Steve decided you are his and when the time is right you will know about his love but for now you needed your best friend and that's what he was going to be. After crying for hours in Steve's arms he finally managed to put you to sleep Steve's own eyes were teary he was angry at Bucky, angry at himself he was facing back and forth until his eyes fell on your personal diary he knew it was wrong but he had to know so respectfully he skipped all the parts and just saw the last few pages he was fuming in rage how dare Bucky pack your bags and tell you to leave the audacity to lie to him, he put the diary back in its place and texted Nat to come over. As soon as Nat came Steve told her to look after you and he will be back quickly. Steve for the first time broke traffic rules drove like a madman he literally ran up to were Bucky was and as soon as he saw him Steve's mind flashed your image the hurt and pain you were in the words in your diary he was fuming in rage "You bloody liar" with that Steve punched Bucky hard on the face, Bucky was shocked Steve punched him again and again calling him liar and a cheat Sharon didn't dare interfere Sam had to hold the captain back only after Sam talked about you Steve stopped but not before warning Bucky for the last time " You stay away from her and mark my words Bucky you will regret this" All Bucky could say was sorry and how he is happy with Sharon, Steve chuckled at his stupidity "one cheater got another cheater no wonder you two make quite the couple" with that Steve left a very confused Bucky alone with Sharon in the tower.

As for Steve Rogers he had his dance and now he is where he belongs that is with you and the first step towards your happiness was to shift you from the hotel to his apartment in Brooklyn time to take you home.

The Tommy/Buck break up came out of no where and makes no sense. Did they think we would celebrate or enjoy losing queer representation? Especially in such a cruel way! I don’t get it. It feels icky that for the first time Buck’s love interest doesn’t get closure is when it’s the queer man. Especially a man who has expressed feeling alone and isolated. This is by far the worst of Buck’s breakups and it means a queer character’s arc ends with isolation and heartbreak. What message are they really sending with this?

For me as a bi person it feels even more icky. “You’re gonna break my heart.” “I’m your first, but not your last.” These feel like illusions to the bi stereotypes that we are indecisive, cheaters, and greedy. Like Bobby married the first woman he dated after the death of his family. Athena married the first man she dated after getting out of a very long marriage. They didn’t need to ‘explore their options’, but Buck is Bi so that must mean he can’t just choose a person. He needs to demonstrate it, onto the hamster wheel we go.

I was so excited about a well done Bi character (they are few and far between) and Oliver Stark said they were doing it with care. This is not with care! This is horrible, and harmful, and it makes me so upset. This is literally the second time this week that a piece of media that was supposed to be safe (that I was excited about), became a source of shame and borderline biphobia. Along with the results of the election, I’m just so tired and heart broken.

I’m sure many Buddie shippers are going to be cheering on the downfall of queer representation in the name of getting what they want. The hate and vitriol they have spouted at a queer character and an actual real human being has just been rewarded. They were right Tommy Kinard was just a plot device, another in a long list of used and abused queer characters. It all just sucks so much and makes me want this week over that much faster. This was a cruel decision done without care for queer viewers.

Steve stood outside his girlfriend’s apartment – exhaling and eventually knocking on the door. He was not looking forward to this conversation one bit. The door opened within seconds of him knocking – she had been waiting.

            “Hi,” Steve greeted his girlfriend – walking into the apartment when she stepped aside. “We uh, we need to talk.”

Steve sat down next to the blonde bombshell. “So…she’s uh…pregnant.”

Her face dropped, and she went from angry to furious. “So, you’ve been fucking her behind my back?!” She stood up and slapped him in the chest.

“What?!”

She scoffed. “Should’ve known better…once a cheater always a cheater.” She went to hit him again, but he managed to catch her hand this time.

“Will you stop it?!” Steve yelled back. “I didn’t sleep with her behind your back!”

“Then how is she pregnant?!”

Steve stood up. “She got pregnant while we were together! God, do you not know how reproduction works?!”

The girl crossed her arms and shook her head in disbelief. “I don’t believe you.”

“Then don’t,” Steve scoffed. “I came here to tell you and hoped you’d be by my side with this.”

“That’d never happen,” she spat. “The only way we’re gonna be together is if the only kid there is belongs to us.”

Steve shook his head. “Then we’re done.”

Before he had time to react, his now ex-girlfriend managed to connect a left-hook to his eye – shocking him but not really hurting him. Without a further word, Steve left the small apartment, not even bothering to grab the couple of outfits he’d left there.

Bucky had you giggling almost nonstop during dinner. If you didn’t know any better, you’d think the two of you weren’t currently trying to figure out what to do with Steve.

            “I do want him involved,” you sighed – using your fork to play with the noodles in your bowl. “It’s hard not to.”

            Bucky nodded. “Baby deserves a father.”

“Or two,” you quietly added on.

Bucky smiled softly. “Or two.”

You exhaled. “If we do this…you and me…and he wants to be involved…you know that he’ll have the final say for things as the dad.”

He nodded. “I do. And I won’t try to argue or interfere unless you ask.”

You smiled at him softly. “Before we decide to start something serious…I need to have a sit down with Steve…make him understand that he and I are over for good.”

“Probably a good idea,” Bucky agreed – sipping his beer. “He’s an asshole, but he’s still my best friend. Last thing I want is him thinking we’re going behind his back.”

You scoffed. “Oh no, how horrible,” you said sarcastically, rolling your eyes. “He’d deserve it.”

“He would,” Bucky nodded, “but I know it’s not like you to want to hurt him.”

You smiled softly. “I’m gonna come back to the tower with you tonight…sit down and talk to him.” You exhaled. “I’m just…scared.”

Bucky raised an eyebrow. “Of what? Steve?”

You shrugged. “Myself,” you answered, “scared I might fall back into his spell…end up in bed with him or something.”

“Do you think that’s something you’d want?”

“I don’t know, Buck,” you admitted. “I don’t think I could be with him like before, but there’s a part of me that’s still just…”

“Attracted to him?” You looked down – feeling embarrassed that he knew how you still felt about the super soldier. No matter how much he broke your heart, there was always a part of you that would nonetheless be attracted to Steve Rogers. Bucky chuckled and reached his hand across the table – holding yours gently. “Sweetheart,” he spoke softly, “whatever you need so that you can be happy, I’ll support it.”

“I don’t want to fall back into bed or love with him,” you told him quietly, “but I’m scared that there’s that part of me that’ll never let go.”

“Do you want me there?” Bucky asked – stroking the back of your palm with his metal thumb.

You nodded tearfully. “Please.”

            Bucky drove the two of you back to the tower after dinner – holding your hand as you walked inside, but he made sure to keep a short distance and let go once inside. The last thing you needed was gossip about you and Bucky being together. You followed him up to Steve’s room, and he gently knocked on the door.

            “Steve,” Bucky called out, “can we talk?” A few seconds passed before Steve opened the door – an ice pack held up to his black eye. “What happened to you?” Bucky asked.

            “Nadia hits harder than I thought,” Steve informed him.

            “Are you okay?” you asked – your voice was meek and quiet.

Steve gave you a soft smile. “I will be.” He put the ice pack down on his nightstand and sat on the foot of his bed. “So, what’s up?”

“We need to talk,” you told him – sitting on the edge of the bed while Bucky sat on the chair across the way from you. “We need to…be clear about things.” Steve nodded and signaled for you to continue. “You and me…we’re—”

“I know I fucked up,” Steve began to interrupt. “Whatever I can do to fix it…just tell –”

“No, Steve,” you cut him off with tears in your eyes. “You did more than fuck up…Do you remember what you told me? I’ll remind you in case you forgot…you told me you didn’t love me anymore.”

Steve looked down to the floor – clearly ashamed at what he had done and said to you. “I know I can’t take that back…but believe me I didn’t mean it.”

You looked over at Bucky for some backup. You could feel yourself falling for him again, and you wanted so badly to throw yourself into his arms and tell him you forgave him. Bucky’s soft and caring expression gave you strength, however, and he was a very strong reminder that there were other men out there. You didn’t need to settle for someone who had so badly shattered your heart and soul.

“Steve,” you exhaled, “we’re done…you cheated…said horrible things to me…I can forgive you, but I can’t trust you....Not with my heart, anyways.”

He nodded. “I get it.”

“I’m more worried about how we’re going to do this whole parenting thing,” you continued. “If you say you want to be there but then end up leaving—”

“That won’t happen,” Steve insisted. “I do want to be there.”

You began to feel a sigh of relief. Maybe things would work out in the end. Maybe the two of you would never be together again, but at least, maybe, your baby would have their biological father in their life in some way. At least, that’s what you had hoped, but you had always found out that life had other plans.

Eddie’s landline is on a stand near the kitchen doorway. Buck had teased him mercilessly about the whole thing, asking why he hadn’t gone for one with one of those long coil-y cords he could twirl around his finger. Hell, why not go all the way and find a rotary? He’s grateful for the wireless design now as he takes it back down the hall, sinks to the floor against the wall where he can watch Chris through the open door. He knows the number, he’s pretty sure, he’s pretty good with them, but he still pulls up the contact list and scrolls. Hesitates. Maybe he should wait till the morning, not ruin somebody else’s night’s sleep, but if he doesn’t keep moving with this momentum he thinks he’ll shut down entirely, never speak a word about this ever again. And, if it were him, he’d want to know.

Ramon picks up on the first ring. “Eddie,” he says, gleeful. “Come to cry about your defeat? I told you the Astros would win that game, your Rangers-“

“Sorry,” Buck interrupts, chest tight, Eddie in his mind exasperatedly complaining about his father’s rival baseball team. I told him they were fucking cheaters and he made it, like, a whole metaphor, somehow. ‘Oh, people can change, mijo, you have to forgive past mistakes’ while making sad little eyes at me. Buck had laughed, hadn’t they only been on a phone call? I could just tell, Eddie had griped, waving the dish he was cleaning in the air or emphasis. Sad little eyes. “I’m sorry. This is B- my name is Evan Buckley. Uh. Buck. We met briefly, I- I work with Eddie.”

”Yes,” Ramon says, worried now, impatient. “Buck. His best friend.”

If he wasn’t already sitting down it would have taken him out at the knees.

Buck and Eddie.

Eddie and Buck.

The last time I wrote about these two queers (said with so much love in my heart) was over two years ago. And my, time has flown by. I can now dive into their relationship with an actual educational background in media literacy.

As we all know, ABC recently gave us what we already knew was true: a bisexual Evan Buckley. I am happy in the way that they approached his coming out and how he feelings for Tommy were not presented in a hetero-normative matter.

HOWEVER,

As much as I love Tommy's character, I'm wishing that they spent more time developing Buck's chemistry with Tommy before jumping into a relationship.

I know what you are thinking: "Keimarkai, you're crazy. There was chemistry between Buck and Tommy. It made sense."

But did it?

I love Tommy. I love his character and how much he makes Buck smile.

However, compared to Buck's relationship with Eddie?

Tommy's relationship with Buck centered around Eddie. Buck was literally ranting about how cool Eddie was before Tommy kissed him. Buck was jealous of Tommy at first because he thought that Tommy was taking his place by Eddie's side.

I am all for a rivals to lovers trope, but hear me out.

EDIT:

I was going to post this a while ago and while new episodes did come out that developed Tommy and Buck's relationship; I stand by what I said.

My boy Eddie has some trauma. He was doing so well with just him, Buck and Christopher. But then Buck got that girlfriend and then Eddie got his girlfriend.

Then Eddie saw that dead wife look alike and he became a big cheater.

Eddie just reeks of comp het. He divorced his wife and she died. He was healing, it seems until Buck started to truly find himself. Then he cheats and ruins a (good?) relationship. His son leaves him and he is left alone.

The new season just started and I am a little behind but I will be posting more
