Periodic reminder that the Jedi donât kidnap kids, they rescue them, and thatâs not propaganda.
Force-sensitive kids who are born to loving families and/or in societies with a strong social net just...grow up to be talented folks. The Nightsisters. Plenty of Mandalorians. So many people.
Kids about to be kidnapped and sold into slavery because theyâre Special? Orphans about to burn down their village? Those tykes get a new Temple Home.
#and a lot of the time yeah sure they probably have a family to return home to#but the Kyber Crystals say ''they're only going to be in more danger''#this is also why Anakin wasn't found#because he HAD A LOVING MOM#we SEE what happens when a Jedi is taken from a loving caring parent who is soon to be free#HE KILLS EVERYOEN#but nooooooooooooooooooooo#we NEED to have the Chosen One who will bring balance#....I mean they literally did#because again if he had stayed SIDIOUS WOULD STILL HAVE MEDDLED#WOULD STILL HAVE FOUND HI#MAUL WAS THERE#as soon as that cat was out of the bag it was too late#but also yeah#yeah...one of the rules is that the Jedi are Good#VERY VERY FLAWED#but Good#and that makes them VERY Exploitable#because they're so Good that they can't be Evil#which means all you have to do is make Doing a Good Thing Actualy Useful To Evil#and all of a sudden Evil Triumphs#HAHA#such triumph#star wars

Pile 1 - Letter one
My Dearest Love
Iâve waited so long to find you, and now that youâre here, my world feels balanced and whole. You are the Queen of my heartâgrounded, nurturing, and endlessly generous. With you, love is not a fleeting feeling but a steady exchange of care and understanding. I cherish the way you give so freely, yet remain true to yourself. I know weâve both had moments of doubt, times when the weight of the world felt too heavy, or when we questioned if weâd ever find this connection. But I want you to know that you are my clarity, my choiceâjust as I hope I am yours. Thereâs no confusion in my heart when it comes to you. Iâve left behind illusions and embraced the simple truth: we are meant to be. Our love feels like destinyâtwo cups pouring into each other, endlessly full. With you, I see a home, a foundation built on joy and celebration, not just with each other but with the life weâll create together. I dream of the family gatherings, the warmth of shared memories, and the way your presence feels like home no matter where we are. But love isnât always light and easy, and I know there will be burdens to share and moments when weâll need to lean on each other. I promise to carry those loads with you, to walk beside you, step by steady step, as we build a life we can be proud of. Iâll be your Knight, slow but steady, working tirelessly to give us the stability we both deserve. Sometimes, I feel the echoes of the pastâfamiliar memories that remind me of what love can be. You feel like a wish come true, like someone Iâve known before, a soul Iâve loved in another time. I see so much potential in us, as if fate herself worked her magic to bring us together. You inspire me to believe in the impossible, to dream of all we can achieve together. With you, I am not just the person I am, but the person I aspire to become. You are my muse, my strength, my love. I canât wait to grow with you, to nurture our love like the strong and enduring tree itâs meant to be. You are my moon, my light in the darkness, my guiding star. Together, weâll create a love thatâs as deep as the roots of the earth and as limitless as the sky.
Forever yours,
Your person

My Beloved
From the moment we met, there was no question in my mind that you were the one. I feel the pull of your energy, your warmth, and the way you touch meânot just physically, but deep within my soul. You are everything Iâve ever dreamed of, and more than I ever expected. With you, love is not just an exchange of words or glances; itâs a delicate dance, an endless giving and receiving. You, my Queen, have a way of grounding me, of making me feel like I am both powerful and tender, all at once. In your arms, I find comfort and the freedom to be myselfâcompletely and unapologetically. I crave the way your body fits against mine, how it feels to be lost in the rhythm of us, in that space where we both melt into one. There were times I wondered if I would ever find this kind of love, the kind that fills every part of me and leaves me wanting more. But the moment I laid eyes on you, every doubt faded away. You are no longer just a possibility, you are my reality. My heart has chosen you, and now, I only have eyes for you. The moments we share together are more than just memories; they are the foundation of a passion that burns bright, that fuels our connection. When I look at you, I see everything Iâve ever wanted. I want to explore every inch of you, learn the taste of your skin, the sound of your breath when youâre lost in pleasure, the way you moan my name in the quiet moments between us. We have something rare and deep, something that feels like itâs been written in the stars. When you touch me, when our lips meet, itâs as if time itself stands still. I feel you in every part of meâinside, outside, heart, and soul. I know the road ahead wonât always be smooth, but I am ready to carry you through it, to take on every burden, every challenge with you by my side. Iâll never let go of this love, of this connection we have. Iâll cherish you, adore you, and make you feel like the most desired person in the world. You are my magic, my everything. I want to give you a life of passion, of intimacy, of everything youâve ever craved. And with you, Iâll always find my way back home, to your arms, where I am truly alive.
Forever yours,
Your Future Lover
Pile 2 - Letter 2
( With the cards I picked, it seems like this pileâs spouse has experienced some tough moments and inner struggles. There's a sense of uncertainty, heartbreak, and perhaps confusion, but also a desire for healing and balance. Their future spouse may want to reassure them of a love that helps them find peace, security, and emotional fulfillment despite these challenges).
My Dearest
I know youâve been through much, and my heart aches when I think of the burdens youâve carried alone. The weight of your past and the struggles youâve faced are not unnoticed, and I see the wounds that have shaped you. You have endured, and that strength, though hidden beneath your pain, shines through in ways that I admire deeply. Thereâs a deep sadness in me, knowing that there have been times when you felt abandoned or lost. But I want you to knowânone of that will remain when we are together. I will be the one who holds you, who sees through the fog and the fear that clouds your heart. In me, you will find a refuge, a sanctuary where you can lay down your burdens and let go of the sorrow that lingers. The path we walk may not always be easy, but I will guide you, patiently, through the darkest of times. Iâll be the steady presence, the one who lifts you when the weight of the world feels unbearable. Together, we will heal from what has hurt us. Together, we will find balance in a world that often feels chaotic. You may have moments of doubt, of confusion, or of wondering if things will ever truly change, but I promise you this: I am here. I see you for who you truly are, not the past, not the fears, but the person capable of immense love and joy. Your wounds do not define you; they are simply part of the journey that will bring us closer, that will help us understand each other on a deeper level. Though I know there may be times when you feel disconnected from the world around you, when loneliness creeps in, remember that I am always with you, even in the silence. We will create a space where trust is restored and where the pain of the past becomes a distant memory, fading with every passing day we share. Iâll be there to calm your restless heart and bring you peace. You are my treasure, the person who completes my life in ways I never knew possible. I will work every day to show you how much I cherish you, how much I desire to build something beautiful with you, despite all that has come before. No matter how long it takes, we will create a life of love, healing, and serenity. I see you. I understand you. And most of all, I am here for youâevery part of you, no matter how scarred, no matter how uncertain. Together, we will shine again.
Forever yours,
Your person

My Dearest
I know youâve carried so much pain, and my heart aches at the thought of the loneliness youâve felt. I feel it, the weight of your struggles, the scars that mark you, but let me tell you this: I will be the one to remove those burdens, to kiss away every trace of sorrow from your skin. In my arms, you will find a release like no otherâwhere you can surrender, where the heaviness of the world can fade into nothing. Youâve felt abandoned, lost at times, unsure of whether someone could truly see the real you. But I see you. Every inch of you. I see the raw beauty in your vulnerability, the fire beneath your uncertainty. When you let me in, Iâll show you what it means to be wanted, to be needed, in ways that go beyond the physical. Iâll make you feel desiredânot just for your body, but for the depth of your soul. I crave youâyour softness, your strength, the way you carry both pain and passion. When we come together, itâs not just about the pleasure. Itâs about releasing everything, every thought, every fear. In our connection, Iâll show you what it feels like to be lost in the heat of the moment, where the world outside ceases to exist, and all that matters is the way we fit together. There may be moments when you feel distant, when your heart is clouded with doubt or sadness, but I will always pull you back to me. Iâll take your hand, guide you through those dark moments, and show you how to let go completely. In those moments, Iâll taste your lips, feel the heat of your body against mine, and remind you just how much you are wanted, how much you are adored. Every part of you calls to me, from the way you look at me with those eyes filled with longing, to the way your skin reacts to my touch. You will learn what it means to be worshiped, to be loved in a way that burns, that leaves you breathless, that makes you forget everything except the heat between us. The journey weâll take together wonât always be easy, but when Iâm with you, Iâll make every touch, every kiss, every whisper, something you will never forget. You are everything Iâve ever dreamed ofâmore than I ever imaginedâand I want to take you, every inch of you, body and soul. We will create a world where our connection is all-consuming, where every moment together feels like the first time. I will be here, ready to explore every part of youâyour desires, your fantasies, your deepest cravings. Together, we will create a love that goes beyond words, a passion that will never fade.
Forever yours

Pile 3 - Letter 3
This pile seems to have a mix of longing, introspection, and fiery new beginnings. Your future spouse or person likely sees you as someone who has faced emotional challenges but still carries hope and passion for love. The Lenormand cards (ring, birds, and dog) suggest commitment, deep conversations, and loyalty.
My Beloved
I see youâyour strength, your resilience, and the fire that burns within you despite the times youâve been hurt. I know youâve faced moments where the world seemed to take more than it gave, leaving you wondering if true, lasting love is even possible. But I want you to know, I am here, and with me, youâll never feel that imbalance again. I will cherish you as you deserve, giving you my all with every moment we share. Your heart, so beautiful and tender, has been bruised before, but it hasnât broken. That courage, that determination to keep hoping, to keep believing, is what draws me to you. I admire the strength you carry even when you feel uncertain or vulnerable. You donât need to carry the weight alone anymoreâI will be the one who stands beside you, steady and unwavering. When we meet, youâll feel itâa spark, a passion, an undeniable pull that we canât resist. You awaken something in me that no one else can. Every touch, every shared glance, will feel like it was meant to be, like we were created to fit perfectly together. Iâll make sure that every moment with me reminds you of how deeply loved and desired you are. Our connection will be unlike anything youâve knownâloyal, passionate, and endlessly fulfilling. Weâll share conversations that stretch into the night, where words flow as naturally as our hearts beat for one another. Iâll be your closest companion, your unwavering support, and the one who always chooses you, no matter what life brings. I promise to build a life with you that is rich in love and overflowing with joy. Together, weâll create a bond so unshakable that no doubt or fear can touch it. With every kiss, every whispered word, Iâll remind you that you are my everythingâthe one Iâve waited for, the one Iâll never let go. So, my love, hold on just a little longer. The path may not always be easy, but itâs leading us to each other. When we finally unite, all the longing and waiting will be worth it. You are my wish come true, and I am yours.
Forever yours,

My Beloved
There's a fire in you that I can't resist, a strength and passion that calls to me in ways I never known. I see the way life has tested you, how it left its mark on your tender heart, but it hasnât dimmed your light. Instead, it made you more irresistible. Youâve carried so much alone, but when we are together, I will take that weight from you. Iâll show you what it means to truly let go and surrender to pleasure, to love, to me. When I look at you, I won't be able to hold myself back. Iâll crave the heat of your body, the way your skin responds to my touch, the way you sigh my name when I make you mine. There's an ache in me that only you can satisfy, a desire to explore every inch of you, to uncover all the hidden parts of your soul and your body. Our connection will be unbreakable, raw, and consuming. Iâll take my time with you, savoring every moment, every kiss, every shiver that runs down your spine when I touch you in ways no one else ever will. When I'm with you, the world will disappear, and there will be nothing but us, the rhythm of our bodies moving together, the sound of your moans filling the air, and the way you'll beg for more. You awaken something primal in me, a hunger that only you can sate. I will show you just how much I want you, how deeply I desire not just your heart but your body, your soul, everything that makes you who you are. I'll make you feel cherished and wanted, not just in words but in every action, every passionate moment we share. Iâll kiss away every tear, every doubt, and replace them with sensations that make you forget the past. When I touch you, it will be with purpose to remind you that you are mine, that no one else will ever know you the way I do. And when I take you in my arms, I'll make sure you never feel alone again. You are my deepest desire, my most sinful craving, and my sweetest dream. I'll be your lover, your partner, your everything. Together, we'll create a passion so consuming that it will leave us both breathless, a connection so deep that it will feel like nothing else has ever mattered before us. I am waiting for you, longing for the day I can finally claim you in every way. Until then, know that you are the one I burn for, the one I'll never stop wanting.
Forever yours

Pile 4 - Letter 4
My Dearest
Iâve thought so many times about the day we will finally meet, and what I will say when I look into your eyes for the first time. I donât know how it will feel, but I know it will be electric, like a spark igniting something powerful between us. I want you to know that when I look at you, I will see everythingâthe beauty of your soul, the depth of your heart, the strength you've hidden away. I see how much youâve carried on your own, how many burdens youâve shouldered in silence, and it will make me want to hold you even more. There have been many times when life has felt uncertain, when it seemed like we couldnât go on. But thereâs something about us, something I canât quite explain, that makes me believe we were always meant to find one another. You and I, we will balance each other out, filling in the gaps that have existed in our lives. The weight of the world wonât feel so heavy when Iâm beside you, and I will make sure you never feel alone again. I will cherish every moment with you. I want to take my time with you, to savor every conversation, every touch, every glance. I want to be the one who makes you feel safe and secure, the one who stands by you when life gets tough. I see how much youâve given to others, how much youâve sacrificed, and I want to give you everything you deserve in return. I want to show you that love can be steady, that trust can be built, and that when you give yourself to someone, itâs not in vain. There may be moments when we question if weâre ready for what weâre about to experience, but I know deep down that this connection between us is something extraordinary. It wonât always be easy, but we will navigate the storms together, side by side, knowing that what we have is real. When Iâm with you, I will make you feel seen, heard, and adored. I crave the day when we can finally be together, when I can hold you in my arms and tell you that you are the one Iâve been waiting for. Until then, know that you are in my heart, that you are the person I am working toward, the one I will never let go of.
Forever yours

From the very first time I lay eyes on you, I will know that you are mine. There will be no hesitation, no doubts. You will awaken a desire in me that I canât control, a fire that Iâve never known before. When we come together, it will be explosiveâthe kind of passion that burns everything in its path. I want to take you in my arms and make you feel wanted, desired, cherished in ways no one else ever has. I will trace the lines of your body with my fingertips, savoring every curve, every inch of you. When I kiss you, I wonât just kiss your lipsâIâll kiss your soul. And Iâll make sure that you feel every kiss deep within your bones, as if itâs your very lifeblood. There will be times when youâll need me to show you how much I want you. Iâll make it clear with every touch, every breath, every word. Youâll feel my hunger for you, and youâll know that itâs not just physicalâitâs spiritual, itâs emotional. You will be the center of my world, the one I canât stop thinking about. When weâre together, Iâll let go of all the restraints Iâve built around myself. Part 1: Siren Song
April 3, 1983
âWhy the fuck wasnât I consulted about this?â Soldier Boy groused.
Arthur Cohen, otherwise known as âThe Legend,â released a heavy puff of his cigar within the relative privacy of his office. Vought afforded him a great deal of luxuries, at the cost of days like this.
So, heâd offered the supe one of his most coveted Cubans to pacify him. Because true to form, he was edging closer to a temper tantrum by the minute.
âThis decision came from on high, my friend,â Arthur said, with a smile that hid his inner anxiousness. He tapped some ash off his cigar with a finger adorned by a gaudy gold ring. âStan Edgar, Stillwell, even the entire board of directors signed off on this one.â
âI donât give a fuck who bought into this PR bullshit,â Soldier Boy postured, crossing his arms across his dark green supe suit as he leaned into the plush seat adjacent to Arthurâs desk. He raised a solid boot on the edge of the newly polished mahogany, and then another, crossing them at the ankles. His cigar was balanced between his teeth in the corner of his mouth.
âThe last thing we need,â he said, pausing to inhale. Then he took the cigar from his lips to blow out smoke in hot annoyance. âIs another broad on the team.â
Arthur inclined his head. âI understand your concerns.â
âDo you?â Soldier Boy snorted. âCountess is bitch enough to deal with, believe you me.â
Arthur sympathized. He knew Crimson Countessâs attitude well, but he supposed Soldier Boy had license to say so more than anyone else, considering she was his girlfriend. Â
âLook, I could give you the numbers: expected profit margins, demographics, etcetera, but you donât get paid to hear that from me,â Arthur said, with a magnanimous hand gesture and a fair bit of old Jewish charm. âIâm askinâ you to trust me. This girlâs good, okay? Not just a wig and a pair aâ tits. Nah, sheâs got talent. Got a set of pipes on her too, my God.â
Soldier Boy gave him a sly look.Â
âNot like that,â Arthur said. He shook his head in amusement, but not with the face of a man who hadnât already thought about the girlâs pretty mouth. He stroked his chin.
âSheâsâŚinteresting. Well, youâll see. If she brings up the ratings the way we hope, weâll be able to relocate Swatto. Hopefully to Siberia. Heâs a fucking PR nightmare waiting to happen.â
âAll right, the guyâs a moron, but heâs fucking hilarious,â Soldier Boy said, smirking. âLike one of the three Stooges.â
Yeah. Arthur wondered if that homeless man Swatto almost split open in Central Park after a sneeze thought he was funny.Â
âAnd her powers. Really?â Soldier Boy went on. His brows drew together then, as he frowned. âSounds like she blew something up someoneâs ass to get this far, and it ainât smoke.â
âTrust me, thatâs the real deal too,â Arthur assured.
But he could see that Soldier Boy wasnât convinced. The supe rolled his eyes and released another puff.
âAnyway. Iâm fucking bored. Whatâs the next project?â he said. Arthur took an unfiltered breath and peeked at the files strewn across his desk.
âWell, Red Thunder is coming out this fall. Weâre pretty sure itâs gonna be the blockbuster of the year,â he replied. âAfter that, weâll see about writing a sequel.â
If it makes back the millions we spent in production going over budget, thanks to this assholeâs weekly benders, he mentally added.
âI donât care about a bullshit sequel,â Soldier Boy said dismissively. âI want to do something new.â
âSomething new,â Arthur intoned.
The supe raised a brow. Again, the cigar was balanced between his teeth.
âYeah.â
He really must be bored, Arthur thought, if he actually wants to work.
âAll right, let me brainstorm on that for ya,â Arthur said. âMatter of fact, tell you what. Give me âtil the end of the week. In the meantime, weâve got the security team monitoring the police scanner for potential saves.â
The supe didnât look impressed. His brows furrowed, as if he was irritated that he didnât get an immediate answer, but his slight nod signaled his agreement before he finally got up from his chair. His boots dragged off Arthurâs desk, knocking over a framed picture of his kids with it, and thudded heavily on the ground. He left the office thereafter.
Arthur heaved a breath of exasperation. He didnât get paid enough for this shit.Â
Fucking supes.
But he didnât dare utter that thought out loud.
It was days before Ben finally crossed paths with the new girl. Not that heâd been giving the idea much thought.
After that day in Arthurâs office, Ben became engrossed in his own devicesânamely one of the assistants, Joanna, his stylist, Angela, and Rachel, his maid, after Donna blew him off for dinner for the third night in a row. This time for some tree-hugging conservationist gala of some kind.Â
Frigid bitch, he thought, shaking his head.Â
On his way to the gym, he passed the T&T Twins gossiping. Just the sight of them irritated him. Tommy was a kiss-ass, and Tessa shared a brain cell with her brother, so she wasnât saying much for her gender either.Â
âWould you pick your tongue off the floor already! Youâre so disgusting,â Tessa said, shoving her brother.
âWhat? Sheâs fucking hot,â Tommy snapped in defense. When they finally saw Ben coming, Tessa piped down with her attempt at a âdemureâ greeting.
Tommy came in hot with a too bright voice and a, âHey, boss!â
Ben gave them a stoic nod, fully intending to blow past them.
âHave you met the new girl yet?â Tommy asked, with an unmistakable pop of his brows and indecent smile.
Ben nearly rolled his eyes. âNo.â
And donât fucking care, his tone conveyed. He continued on his way to the gym. Behind him, the twins gave each other a look, and a shrug.
When he got to the gym, Journey was playing overhead. Ben frowned as he saw Black Noir working out by himself. The young man wasnât wearing his suit. Instead, he was bare-chested and running on a treadmill with a nearly 90-degree incline, sweat glistening on his skin.Â
Fucking show off, Ben thought.Â
Then there was Gunpowder, his young sidekick, practicing his archery. Ben went to him and slapped a hand on his back in greeting, none too gently. The teen stumbled, his arrow landing into the wall instead of the target.Â
âSpot me at the bench, ey kid,â said Ben. âAnd grab me a towel while youâre at it.â
âUh, sure,â Gunpowder replied, ducking his head as he went. Ben got settled at his usual bench press machine, sliding his back down the thin leather cushion. He waited for the kid to add on his fifty-pound weights on either side, until it reached two hundred pounds. That was just the warm-up.Â
âYou met the new girl yet?â Ben asked, after he began lifting his first rep. Gunpowder stood behind his head. Â
âNo, sir,â he said. âHavenât seen her yet.â
âI havenât either,â said Noir. Heâd come over on his way to the showers, regaining his breath all the while. Ben gave him a sharp side-eye.
âDid I fucking ask you?â he said.Â
Noir paused. He hid his frown behind a stoic front, since he didnât have his mask to do it for him. He toweled off his face and chest as he left the gym.Â
Ben shook his head, but he never broke stride on the bench press.Â
You seemed to be mysterious.Â
Barely anyone had seen you, and you hadnât gone out of your way to ingratiate yourself with every member of the team, like Ben wouldâve expected. Donna had set him in her sights on her very first day.
With fake demure in her hazel eyes, a flick of her long red hair over her shoulder, and a sultry smile, sheâd let him take her hand and bring it up to his lips for a gentlemanly kiss.Â
That same night, sheâd accepted his invitation up to his suite and let him do some very ungentlemanly things. Ben smirked at the memory as he made his way down Vought Towerâs infinite hallways. She sure knew her way around some kinky shit. Â
And she still did, the little minx. Sheâd just been putting the freeze on his balls lately, for whatever her reasons were this time. He didnât pretend to care or keep track at this point.Â
If people only knew what a royal pain Crimson Countess was.
Ben was only taken out of his thoughts when he heard someone singing in the breakroom, gently, but beautifully. He couldnât make out the words though. He stopped and leaned inside the doorway, just to see who it was. It was early enough in the morning that he was surprised anyone but him was awake.
You were standing there at the counter, making some coffee from the percolator. Soft and dulcet notes fell from your lips in some kind of lullaby. Quirking a brow, the oddness of it managed to draw Benâs steps into the kitchen. You were wearing a leather supe suit that molded to your every curve, not unlike Donnaâs, except yours was black with violet trim lines.
You eventually noticed him with a smile.
âGood morning, sir.â
Ben gave you a charming grin, blatantly eying you from breast to toe before he noted that the coffee had finished percolating.Â
"Hey there, sweetheart,â he said. âPour me a cup, would ya?"Â
You did so, and he admired the graceful movements of your hands, and the sweet sound of your voice as you continue to hum to yourself.Â
"You're a little crooner, aren't you?" he asked, taking the plain white coffee mug from you.Â
When your hand brushed his, he felt it.
Your power.
It threatened to overtake him, drawing you into him like the crash and current of a tidal wave, where he couldnât help but be pulled undertow. There in that darkness, he craved your warmth as well as your body. The thought, the need gripped him at his coreâŚÂ
He wanted you to devour him, body and soul.
And he finally registered that your eyes were glowing violet, along with your knowing smile.Â
Then you blinked. The violet haze was gone, along with your hold on his mind.Â
You went back to sipping your coffee as if nothing had just happened. Ben faltered, mentally and physically as he was forced to grip the counter. He even had to catch his breath as his mind reeled from the loss of connection.Â
He covered his unbalance with a steely, angry frown. What the fuck just fucking happened?
He looked at you harder than before, drawing himself to his full height and towering over you. Still, you didnât seem all that intimidated.
âWhat the hell did you just do?â he growled.
Your knowing, easy smile remained.Â
âNothing,â you replied. âJust a little smoke.â
Benâs eyes widened.
âSounds like she blew something up someoneâs ass to get this far, and it ainât smoke.â
How the hell had you heard about that?
He quirked a brow, but you just sipped your coffee with a gentle slurp. Your gaze moved away from him as you went to the fridge to take out a carton of eggs.
âWant some breakfast? Iâm thinking of making some eggs, sunny side up,â you said.
Benâs hand clenched at his side, but then, he forced himself to relax. Or at least, to look relaxed. You had some fucking audacity to try toying with himâŚbut he had to admit, you were something new.
Interesting.
âWhatâs your name?â he asked, in a tone that demanded.
âSirena,â you answered. Your superhero name, which heâd already known when Stan Edgar told him about you a week ago.
Benâs frown deepened, but he reminded himself to retain some charm. He took your chin between his fingers. His grip was light, but his green eyes were intense, and focused on you.Â
âNo. Your real name, sweetheart,â he said, brushing your cheek with his thumb.
You blinked, but you obliged him with your name, and a smile that edged at flirtation.
âWhatâs yours?â you returned.
He had to smirk. He knew you knew full well who he was.
âCall me Ben,â he said.
Three Days AgoâŚ
You tried not to be completely overwhelmed by the sight of this huge tower as you pulled your suitcase behind you. Vought-American was an institution of superhero production, and Payback was the face of it all. The absolute pinnacle.
I still canât believe they chose me, you thought, but you tried not to let that show. You needed to make it seem like you knew what you were doing. You belonged here, and you were seizing this chance.
Madelyn Stillwell, the head of Superhero Public Relations, personally greeted you at the gate and showed you up to your room. However, youâd barely gotten a chance to step inside and look around before her pager went off. She wore a certain smile when she saw the number on the screen. She tossed a strand of strawberry blonde hair over her shoulder and glanced up at you.
âSorry, sweetie. I have an appointment to get to, but the directory is there on your desk if you need anything. Feel free to get comfortable,â she said, gesturing at you with her pager in hand. âIâll be back in an hour or so to give you a tour of the building.â
âOkay, thank you soââ
The door closed behind her before you could even finish your sentence. That deflated you a little, but you tried not to let that small exchange bring you down. Your apartment was huge. Or at least, it was much bigger than the shoebox you left in the Village, let alone the Brooklyn brownstone you grew up in, sharing with two other families on each floor.
You hefted your suitcase onto the bed and began to unpack your clothes, makeup, and toiletries.Â
You also took out the only framed picture you hadâone that housed your parents and your older brother Chris. You were both grown already, but in this picture, you were barely twelve years old. That little girl didnât know that her entire world was about to change, when her powers manifested for the first time.Â
That thought did succeed in dimming your mood for a moment, but you sighed and set the frame down on your new dresser. Youâd have to remember to call Chris. His son was turning four years old in a few weeks.Â
Though your attention shifted to a black shape in the corner of your eye. It was a garment bag hanging on the closet door. You went over and unzipped it, revealing your new super suit. It was all black leather and violet accent lines down the sides, along the collar, and down between the breasts in a V-shape. It was strategic to accentuate curves and bust.Â
You whistled lowly. It was beautiful, but Jesus did it look tight.Â
âWow,â you remarked, trying out the zipper up and down. âThey really like their leather, huh?â
Still, you itched to try it on. After a few minutes of struggling and wiggling, you managed to get into the suit. Theyâd taken exact measurements, so it did look good. You felt like a new personâŚa superhero.
You smiled at yourself in the bathroom mirror. But then, you forced the smile off your face and shook your head, schooling your expression into something less doe-eyed and pathetic. More in control.
There you are, Sirena, you thought. You had long ago trained yourself with that enigmatic look. You knew how it felt on your face. The easiest way for you to get what you wanted in this world, the way youâd gotten this far, was with this exact face.
Only show them what you want them to see. Â Â
Almost two hours later, youâd finished unpacking your belongings and explored every corner of your new beautiful apartment, but still, Miss Stillwell wasnât back yet.
You checked your watch and hummed to yourself. Your curiosity getting the best of you, you decided to leave your apartment and explore the tower by yourself. You took off the suit as well, so you could make your way around more anonymously. You were sure no one really knew who you were yet.Â
Your theory was proven true when you walked through the halls, passing Vought employees without even a blink in your direction. That was okay though. Soon enough, all these people would know your face, as well as your name.Â
You reached one of the top floors, where you thought you remembered The Legendâs office was supposed to be (according to the directory). Maybe you could meet him and get a jump start on your schedule.
You stopped short, however, when an office door slid open. Out came a slightly disheveled Miss Stillwell. Her blouse was hastily tucked into her gray pencil skirt, and strands of her blonde hair were a bit frizzy as they brushed her shoulders, as if sheâd combed them down with her fingers. You plastered yourself to a wall around the corner, only peeking around after she passed by.
Your brows popped up incredulously when you read the name plate beside the door she just came out of.
Stan EdgarâŚholy shit. His signature was on my contract!
Along with Arthur Cohen, or The Legend, as Stillwell had told you when she welcomed you in. He was the Senior Vice President of Hero Management, so who the hell was Stan?
Well, whoever he was, he was giving it to the head of PR.
Okay then. You shook your head and continued on your way. At the end of the hall, you finally found the right office. You were about to open the door, when you heard male voices coming from insideâone older and dry, and the other deep and strong.
You reached out with your awareness and allowed your powers to engage, likely making your eyes glow with a violet hue.
Sure enough, you sensed two men in the room. And as the voices raised, you recognized one of them. It was unmistakable; youâd been taking the time to binge all of his movies for the past month, ever since you auditioned to get into Payback.
Soldier Boy.Â
A smile spread across your face. For a moment, you were incredibly excitedâŚuntil you actually heard what he was saying.
âThe last thing we need is another broad on the team.â
Your mouth fell open in shock as your brows drew together. You carefully pressed yourself to the door and kept listening.
âAnd her powers. Really?â he said. âSounds like she blew something up someoneâs ass to get this far, and it ainât smoke.â
âTrust me, thatâs the real deal too,â Arthur assured.
You glared at the door furiously, as if you could burn lasers out of your eyes. You crossed your arms, but you breathed evenly as you strived to keep your emotions contained.Â
Control, you reminded yourself. With another deep breath, you managed to let go of your ire, but the more you listened to the conversation, the more impossible that became. You turned away from the door and made clipped strides down the hall.
You knew you had to tread carefully here. Youâd heard some of the real stories about Payback, because youâd taken the time to listen. You werenât about to enter Vought Tower without having some idea of what you were getting into, and you knew youâd have to prove yourself as the rookie on the team. You just hadnât expected their leader to be such a chauvinistic asshole.Â
Though inwardly, you snorted. Well, the guy is from the â40s. Best generation, indeed.
You rolled your shoulders and shook it away, like water off your proverbial feathers. Your mouth set in a firm line as you held your head high.
The game begins, you thought.
For the next few days, you watched. You studied each member of your new âteamâ as you encountered them, and you quickly realized that this team wasnât much of one.Â
They looked out for themselves, and bickered amongst themselves, in the case of the TNT Twins. Crimson Countess had given you a lovely, polite face that still somehow mocked you when she walked away, along with the bounce of her red hair.Â
Your powers didnât allow you to sense or read women, but you recognized a diva when you saw one.
Clearly, she was used to being the woman on top, especially as Soldier Boyâs girlfriend. You wanted to roll your eyes at the thought. From what youâd heard (and the masculine cologne you smelled on Arthurâs assistant Joanna yesterday), Soldier Boy got around. His relationship with Countess was either very open, or it was well-crafted PR.
You had another growing, unsettling thought. The more information you gathered just by observing the team, the more you had a hard time believing that you were ever going to fit in around here.Â
It was only your third day in the Tower though, you reminded yourself, as you got dressed for the day in your suit. That kind of negativity wouldnât serve you here.Â
So you left your apartment in search of coffee and breakfast at the breakroom and lounge area, exclusive to the team. You supposed these guys were either late sleepers, or they got their food brought to them. You were relieved to find the room empty, and you let out a deep breath.
Remember why youâre here, you thought. Itâs not about you.Â
It had never been about you.Â
You rummaged through the cupboards in search of the one thing that would perk you upâgood coffee. You found it near the top shelf and began to prep the coffee maker. You hummed to yourself while your hands moved on autopilot. The tune strengthened, deepening and then sweetening on higher trills.Â
Suddenly, your spine prickled. Your mind buzzed faintly with awareness as you sensed a presence.
It was familiar and overwhelmingly male, with heavy, confident steps coming down the hall. You tilted your head and frowned.Â
Soldier Boy, that asshole.Â
But then, your lips curved upwards. This could be fun.Â
When Soldier Boy walked into the breakroom, he noticed you. You pretended not to realize he was there, but you felt the heat of his gaze roaming over your body. You wanted to sigh. Predictable.
Right then, you made a quiet, firm decision. Today, this man was going to learn your name. And he wasnât going to forget it.Â
You turned to him with a smile when he approachedâthe most pleasant one you could manage.
âGood morning, sir.â
AN: Game, set, match. đđ As many of you know, this story is expanding on this Soldier Boy imagine, which I wrote almost a year ago now. In the back of my mind though, I always thought this idea could be more someday.
So please let me know what you thought of Part 1! I'm so excited for you guys to see what's coming up next...
Next Time:
âCountess, Iâm not trying to replace you. Iâm not trying to take anything from you.â
âExcept my boyfriend,â she shot back. Finally she turned her head towards you with cool disdain. âYou think I didnât see you flirting with him last night at the afterparty?â  Â
You rolled your eyes, though you hid a sliver of embarrassment. You shouldâve known sheâd spot that.
âHe approached me, okay?â you said. Maybe you were about to let your pettiness to get the best of you, but you couldnât help it. You smiled slyly. âAnd from what I hear, Iâm the least of your worries. Looks like Ben has quite the appetite.â
The cracks of Countessâs cool façade finally broke through to anger.

LOUD.
part one two three four five
Obi watches over him like a shadow the first few weeks heâs in the Temple.
Anakin will wake from a memory-nightmare and his protector will sit on the windowsill, bathed in the ever changing lights.
His warm hand will stroke over Anakinâs hair, soothing and more comforting than words could ever be.
He will offer Anakin to sit with him, watching Coruscant through the transparisteel. And Anakin will inevitably end up cuddled up to Obiâs front, falling asleep with Obiâs heartbeat under his ear, the breath in his lungs.
.
The identities of the Shadows are almost considered inviolable. Due to the nature of their chosen path, secrecy is a tenet they adhere to strictly.
The Council knows who they are, and maybe there are one or two Council members who are uncomfortable with how close to the Dark Shadows operate. But as a whole the necessity is understood.
The Jedi stand and fight for the Light, the balance, for bringing peace and help to those who need it. A calling like that inevitably brings enemies and the need to even the playing field.
âBeacon of Light,â Obi-Wan repeats, hands moving in disbelief.
And code names. It was only a matter of time before he got his codename.
âFitting, we think it is,â Grandmaster Yoda says, amusement twinkling in his eyes and frog tea.
âOf course, Grandgrandmaster Yoda,â Obi-Wan signs, slipping in the extra grand flawlessly, which results in the sign turning grand to ancient. If Yoda gets cheeky with him, he can very well retribute.
Master Tholme coughs a laugh into the sleeve of his robe.
âCongratulations, Master Kenobi,â Master Windu says warmly and Obi-Wan ducks his head, loses the fight against the blush spreading across his nose. âMaster Tholme has prepared a briefing package for you where you can access all relevant information. Like the code name for the Temple here on Coruscant.â
Master Tholme inclines his head in agreement, solemn twist to his lips Obi-Wan knows not to trust. âOld Folksâ Home.â
Obi-Wan wishes he wore the mask so he can wheeze in peace.
.
Jedi move different from the people Anakin has seen so far in his life. They flow, theyâre carried by a breeze. Gravity doesnât have a hold on them unless it suits them. They move like theyâre one with nature, detached from sentient-made life and creations.
And then there are a few, like Obi, who move with the undercurrent, with the wind just above the ground. Who vanish with the shadows just to reappear around a corner.
Theyâre not stalking the enormous hallways or sneaking around like bandits.
Anakin doesnât think theyâre doing it consciously, reflecting attention away from themselves as if they arenât even there.
Obiâs friend Quin moves like that, too, when he forgets himself, somehow managing to disappear while walking in the middle of the floor.
Quin is a strange one.
But Obi-WanâŚ
Anakin bites his lips to keep from giggling, hands gripping the banister tightly where heâs peeking. He doesnât think theyâve noticed him yet.
The training salle theyâre practicing in is huge, obstacles dotting the ground for them to leap over or off, hide and take the other off-guard.
It seems impossible, the way they fight and lure each other into traps. Obi is especially good at that. Heâs directing Quin into exhaustion he canât defend himself in anymore, and itâs amazing to watch.
Nothing and no one can beat Obi-Wan. Heâs too clever for that.
âI will never stop calling you that, Beacon of Light,â Quin laughs when he jumps out of a roll and onto his feet.
Obi-Wan signs something, his back to Anakin which is aggravating.
Heâd change position but both Jedi move around too much.
Quin shakes his head. âShut up, you know it suits you.â He takes the lightsaber off his belt. âI bet you blushed like a meloroon in season.â
Obi changes into a blue glowing blur in answer.
.
Obi-Wan wants to know where he went wrong. What he did toâ He thought the connection between him and Codyâ
His vision is swimming, oxygen mask placed over his nose and mouth pumping more than air into his system.
His fingers weakly tap the message on the receiver of the comm device he broke off Codyâs suit during the fight. âBeacon. Light. Force.â Hope and the Force sing to him, even as his doing is detected.
Cody roughly rolls him onto his side, takes the device out of his hand where he had hidden it behind his back.
âThe Emperor wants you alive, traitor.â
Heâs removed his helmet. The one Obi-Wan had destroyed while it was still on Codyâs head. Just⌠Codyâs whole demeanor flipped to strange and other. He hadnât made for his blaster during the fight. Shooting inside a rescue shuttle in the void of space at least still seemed like a bad idea even with Codyâs suit keeping him alive in a scenario like that.
But Obi-Wan couldnât take that chance. So heâd smashed Codyâs face against a doorframe, breaking the visor and any choice Cody could make in killing Obi-Wan by sudden oxygen depletion.
Of course the fight took care to still break his lungs open, making him gasp for air even before Cody held him down and ripped the mask off.
Lying on his side is easier but the room has decided it is done with him and goes dark.

You're mine
You were one of the guests in the big event that was held at the Demon lord's castle. Of course the whole House of Lamentation were invited as well as Purgatory hall and many other noble families from the among the whole Devildom. All guests barely fit in the huge ball room of the castle.
Barbatos was walking around in an elegant suit with a silver tray in hand, carefully balancing a few drinks on it and offering it to the guests with mannered words and elegance. He was radiating prestige.
At times he'd find himself at Diavolo's side, carefully observing the guest the prince was talking to, making sure to keep him safe and at other times he'd find himself looking over the guests in the room just to lock his eyes on you and make sure you were behaving. You were wearing a bit too revealing clothes for the butler's liking and he felt the need to watch over you and any other demons even if all they did offer a swift glance your way.
Meanwhile you were having the time of your life. Walking around with the beautiful outfit which was chosen for you by the fifth-born, explaining the way it looked and a glass of high-end demonus in hand. You had the main attention in the hall. Stealing glances from all the demons around you, accompanied by many jealous stares by the lovers of said demons.
Suddenly a man approached you. He was a tall and handsome demon. Everyone was all over him. Though his appearance wasn't left unnoticed by Barbatos. He furrowed his brows and observed the demon carefully. A pang of jealousy gnawed at his heart but he was fast to push it away. As the conversation with the demon progressed Barbatos became more envious. The demon had his hand resting on your lower back while you two were talking and laughing. 'You seem like the perfect couple. But that won't do.' Barbatos thought.
He excused himself away from lord Diavolo and left the tray with drinks on one of the tables before making his way to you. And right when the demon was about to grasp your chin, in an attempt to bring you closer and steal a kiss Barbatos yanked his hand away, holding it with a strength even he himself didn't know he had. At first the demon was annoyed but upon seeing Barbatos' angry face he backed away with a pale face and fear in his eyes. Barbatos shoved him even farther away and took a few slow steps towards you.
-"MC what were you doing with him...?" âHe hissed.
-"We were just having a regular conversation, Barbatos! No need to get jealous over it."
-"A regular conversation, you say?" âBarbatos murmurs and pushes you against the nearest wall, leaning in closer. You shiver.
-"If it was a 'regular conversation' as you put it.. why was his hand hoovering over your lower back.. why were you two laughing so casually.. why was he about to kiss you just now?" âHe speaks in a low, dangerous voice while trapping you more firmly against the wall.
-"I.. well.."
-"You're speechless because you know what I said is true, aren't you?"
-"I uhm..." â You stutter once more, unsure of what to say. You see the fire in his eyes become more powerful and the grip on your hips tightens.
-"MC, tell me. Who do you belong to, hm?" âHe asks and when you don't answer he pushes you further into the wall, leaning in, lips hoovering just above your ear.
-"So? Are you going to answer or am I going to have to force the answer out of those pretty lips of yours and show you who you actually belong to hm?" âWithout waiting for your answer the demon teleports both of you to his room, immediately pushing you towards the nearest surface.
-"Clothes off, MC. Clock's ticking." âThe demon takes a few steps back, admiring you as you slowly dispose of your clothes. That's when you noticed his form change. His tail had come out along with that demonic aura demons gave off when they were in their demon form. You know Barbatos wasn't playing games this time.
He reached for a chair and pulled it forward, sitting on it and crossing his legs while his fingers were working on loosening his suit and bow tie. When all of your clothes were away from your body, revealing your naked form to the demon he smirked, the fire in his eyes burning with unknown passion.
-"Crawl to me." âHe speaks in a dangerous tone that makes shivers run down your spine but you nod and slowly make your way to him on your hands and knees just as he had requested. You looked like a puppy aching to feel the feeling of closeness upon nearing its owner. Such a desperate sensation. But that was exactly what the butler wanted you to feel. He wanted you to know your exact place and where you belonged.
When you neared him he wrapped his long, slick tail around your waist and yanked you over to him, positioning you over his already hardened member that was bulging against his pants. He crashed his lips to yours in a dominant kiss, tongues fighting for dominance though you were no match for him. He was a demon after all. And no other but Barbatos, the master of time himself.
Soon enough he stood up and moved you both to the nearest wall. The cold surface of the stone bricks cooled your burning body down which made you take a sharp breath which wasn't left unnoticed and earned you a soft chuckle. And then you felt something against your entrance.. the sharp tip of his slick tail, teasing your hole, bringing you to a point where you wanted to beg for him to push it in. Your body was squirming and you were struggling and the thing is that Barbatos knew that. He was very aware of that fact and wanted it to be that way. And then when you thought you finally reached a peak he pushed it in, making you squeak in pleasure. The demon smirked and began pumping his tail in and out - as far as it could go, hitting all the right places inside you every single time. But just as when you were about to hit the point of sweet release he pulled out and never pushed it back in. You whined in disappointment which earned you an almost sadistic chuckle.
-"How bad do you want it?" âHis demonic voice echoed through the room.
-"I want it soo bad, Barbatos, please.." âYou pleaded but he shook his head.
-"You aren't going to get anything before you tell me exactly what I want to hear.. so.. go on MC.. tell me.. who owns you, hm?"
-"You, Barbatos."
-"Who is the only one who can make you feel this way?"
-"You, Barbatos."
-"And do you know what all of these things make you, MC? They make you mine. Not anyone else's... Mine.. and only mine." âHe says as he unzips his trousers and pushes his demon cock inside you, making you see stars. You could feel each and every vein of it as it stretched you wide. And soon enough you found your release. Moaning and begging while milking Barbatos' dick. But he wasn't done. Instead of stopping he went faster, searching his own release. The intensity was so powerful that it could make you scream out of pleasure and then the demon released his thick load inside you, marking you as his.
-"You're mine, MC. You've always been mine... And you'll always be."

iâve been seeing a lot of business/ceo aus with the 141, but iâve been bingewatching âsuitsâ lately soâŚlaw firm au?
The 141 Law Group is one of the most prestigious in London. they take on clients that nobody else will, lots of high profile people and large businesses. they have a great reputation for discreteness, getting things done quickly and quietly and mostly above board. 141 handpicks their associates from the top law schools in the UK and itâs an honor to be chosen by them.
jonathan price is managing partner. at the end of the day, itâs him who makes the decisions of what clients to take on, what expenses are necessary and which ones arenât, and how to handle the difficult cases. he runs the show, and what he says goes. usually mills around in the associate spaces, making sure the firmâs making good investments in the rookies. his background is in criminal law, but getting him in the courtroom is tough these days. he can be tempted out of his cushy corner office on occasion, though.
simon riley is a senior partner, priceâs right hand. he was one of the founding partners of the firm, but chose to keep his name off the official paperwork. he has more interest in being a lawyer than a manager, though he likes to throw his weight around from time to time. expert in business law, does a really good job at giving government oversight the finger and finding workarounds for his clients. he has his limits though, wonât help his clients take action that will harm consumers. most people think heâs sleazy and dirty, but thereâs a heart of gold underneath that prada suit.
john mactavish is the firmâs numbers guy. we already know heâs good with math, he has to be not to blow himself to bits. he keeps the ledgers balanced and the firm consistently in the green. has a few clients of his own that he advises on strictly financial matters. price brings him on every new client lunch because of his charm and wit, swears theyâve gotten a couple of clients because of johnnyâs sense of humor alone. likes the water cooler talk, especially with lawyers in different specializations. this man knows so many random bits and pieces of international law, business law, entertainment law all because of the people he strikes up conversation with.
kyle garrick is the freshest face, hired for a permanent position after being chosen as an associate. aspiring senior partner, would love to co-manage the firm with price someday. he works primarily with international clients, loves the late nights reading up on the laws that govern other countries. heâs great at finding loopholes, just like simon. heâs aggressive in the courtroom when he does get to go, oftentimes as co-counsel with simon or johnny. heâs scribbling notes in every meeting heâs in, soaking in all the information. despite the multiple offers heâs gotten from other firms, his loyalty lies with john.
and then thereâs you, their new secretary. simon was hesitant when john announced your hiring at the partnersâ meeting, didnât really think they needed someone fielding calls and making copies when that was what the associates were for. john had purely personal motivations for hiring you, though. poached you from the rival firm, Shadow Company, LLC. while youâd been content enough in your position, phillip graves was a bit of a sleazeball, in your opinion. when price came in with his sweet talk and promise of a signing bonus, you were hooked. nevermind that it took a whole week of morning coffees and tickets to the ballet for johnny to agree to the extra expense. they change their mind when you show up to work in your tight skirt and high heels, eyes bright and ready to start.Â
the second you bent over your desk and they caught a glimpse of your lacy thong, it was all over.

HOW DOES YOUR PERSON FEEL ABOUT YOU? PICK-A-PILE ...
Pile (1) : Misunderstood
Cards: Magician reversed, Unknown, Five of Cups, High Priestess, Five of Pentacles reversed- kinda, Empress reversed and judgment -at the bottom of the deck.
My first reaction was WOW! The person on your mind feels like youâre elusive. They also feel like their manipulative tactics, that usually work, are ineffective. When I say, â usually workâ, this can mean for some of you that in the past whatever they did to gain the upper hand and keep you and this relationship situation under control, no longer works. Hence- their â Wowâ reaction. For others of you, this is simply a shock to them because they TRIED IT and FAILED miserably. I understand that not everyone appreciates or understands spiritual terminology- especially, when someone deems themselves as a spiritual being.
( as I was typing this, a spider was crawling on my leg- scary) Side bar, Spiders represent creation, interconnectedness, resilience, balance and harmony. In addition to, being omens for good fortune, luck and confirmation for being in alignment with your destiny and higher purpose. I do not believe in coincidences and so, itâs become clear to them that you are indeed â Chosenâ- for what? Thatâs for you to decide, however, the person on your mind  feels like theyâve misjudged you. When someone misjudges you, they usually treat you with contempt. If you recall, I felt the need to acknowledge that not everyone appreciates, understands or respects those who claim to be spiritual beings. Itâs becoming clear that your person judged you harshly and unjustly due to their ignorance. The magician card reversed further clarifies that your person believed that you were evil, a witch, warlock or worse because of your spiritual beliefs and practices. If I had the Doreen love oracle, Iâm certain the card â
Religious factors are affecting your love lifeâ, would appear. This now brings us back to the beginning, with your personâs reaction being â WOWâ. ( you see how everything is circling back and coming together- like that of a spiderweb?) I shuffled again and took a peek at the bottom of the deck and the four of pentacles reversed, the Hierophant and Hanged man is present. Your person is finally having a realization that their reasoning for abandoning you- rejecting you, was due to their lack of awareness and RESPECT for your spiritual beliefs. It goes without saying, your person is religious and before this point, was grounded ( 4 of pentacles) in their religious beliefs that clearly opposed your spiritual beliefs. This is a profound moment because the Judgement card is out with the Empress reversed, with you being The Empress ( man or woman). NO ONE rejects The Empress. I can see this person hurt you. I think we can all agree how painful it is when others misjudge you and refuse to understand you due to their ignorance and unwillingness to be challenged. Challenges promote growth, which is another spiritual meaning of spiders. Most fear spiders and clearly, your person WAS and STILL IS, SCARED OF YOU. ( as they should be) Iâll be FRANK, your person is a bitch. The difference now, is that they are admitting to themselves that they are a bitch.
Your person may have Saturn in Aries/ 1st house, Mars/ Pluto square, Neptune square Saturn, 12th & or 8th house placements, Earth sign placements, Sun square Neptune, Sun square Mars, prominent Uranus placements â but not limited to. People fear what they do not understand and who they cannot control. I am afraid ( no pun intended) that this is the dynamic with your person. I personally want to clarify, however, energetically, that would be overkill especially for your person. It has taken them some time to finally admit that they are fearful of you and everything you represent. Out of respect, ( the same respect they initially didnât have for you) Â I think itâs best to allow them to marinate in their â Awakeningâ. I can confidently say that though they fear you, they finally respect you. Theyâve known that to be with you, it would require them to GROW spiritually with you which means they would have had to leave their religious beliefs behind. It was much easier to demonize and misunderstand you at the time, than it was, for you to challenge everything they believe and been taught.
For your sake ( whoever is reading this), Clarifying the Empress reversed and Judgment card- Temperance and Ace of Cups came out. Your person loves you ( likes you a lot) and they want to FIX the hurt and pain their rejection has caused. I pulled two more, and the King of Cups and Five of Pentacles came out. They are feeling the same Five of Pentacles that they made you feel. Your person could be a Scorpio , Cancer, Pisces, Capricorn, Virgo, or Taurus. I pulled a few love oracles, and I wonât name them all here however, all their judgements about you came out in the cards. They forced themselves to believe some negative things about you, man. Twin flames, Marriage, Letâs Elope are the only good cards that came out, that I strongly believe are in alignment with their â awakeningâ and acceptance of who you are. Intuitively, I know this has been a long journey, years even. I donât see ACTION, but I suppose becoming AWARE is a start.

Pile (2) : Forgive But Never Forget
Cards: King of Swords, Six of Swords reversed, Eight of Wands, Nine of Swords, Knight of Cups and The World â at the bottom of deck.
For this pile, your environment may have been sending you messages- like seeing synchronicities. Birds flying above you ( or shitting on you or your car) , Horses, Frogs, Butterflies flying past you, Cats, Â People selling roses on the side of the road etc. Astrologically, I strongly feel that your Vertex and Part of Fortune has been activated. Now, your person âfeelsâ like an apology is in order. Some of you may resonate with Pile (1) because toward the end I mentioned that I wasnât seeing action, just awareness with their person. In Pile (2) I see mad action, and a lot of horses. Your person may be an Air Sign- Aquarius, Libra, Gemini or Fire Sign- Aries, Leo, Sagittarius or have those placements. ( maybe you do) Nevertheless, your person wants to apologize and or, take you out on a date.( or both)
Itâs interesting, because when I attempt to interpret the cards, I come up with another meaning at the last minute. It feels like someone who is trying to have all their bases covered. It feels like someone is trying to make sure that there will be no reason for you to turn them down. I clarified the Knight of Cups and the 9 of cups, Three of Swords and Three of Pentacles card appeared. This suggest that this may be someone you are familiar with, who âowesâ you an apology. This person, ( I canât say your person because it appears they lost that title) wants to make you happy. Omg, the energy is somewhat strange. This person may be a bit awkward. They donât communicate much. I am having a hard time typing. Itâs like this person is very careful with their words. They donât want to say or do the wrong thing. I strongly feel like you may resonate with Pile (1) because in that pile, their person was fearful of them. The energy seems a bit similar. Okay, so clarifying the King of Swords, the Hermit, Two of Wands, Six of Swords, and the Knight of Wands with the Eight of Pentacles at the bottom of the deck. No wonder, this person is coming off like they donât speak much or are very cautious with what they say. Whoever this is to you; hurt you and stressed you out- to say the least ( no pun intended) and they want to come in the right way and make up for their past actions. They do not want to remind you of the past youâve shared with them. Which means, they may not want to bring up the past. I am not saying they will try to brush things under the rug but⌠in some ways, thatâs exactly what they intend to do. Looks like your past with them was a bit toxic, confusing and one sided. It appears to have been a situationship that clearly hurt you in the end. ( Wow, Iâm tired of typing these short sentences. They really are cautious with their words!!!) Maybe this indicates one of the problems you had with this person- was the fact they were too controlled, short with their speech, emotionally unavailable and hard to read. OH! You felt it was hard to connect with them on a deeper and emotional level because clearly, you were the one putting in all the effort- hence the one sided dynamic.
This person wants to be YOUR PERSON and whenever they show up ( BECAUSE THEY WILL) expect them to communicate a lot more. Be prepared to hear that they are tired of fighting how they feel about you, being and acting all controlled aka. STIFF AS HELL, and that it was never just a sexually situationship. It was always more than that but like Pile (1), they were scared. . . Yup, I started shuffling out of my love oracle deck and â They want youâ came FLYING OUT !!! They love the way you smell ( sounds like a taurus thing ) They also want to start a family- whether that means with babies or pets with marriage in the future. Now, Â be careful because there are some cards that came out that are concerning. I am unable to tell if this is past energy that they want to apologize for or things you were suspicious about before.
The World Card denotes a new beginning, so Iâd like to encourage an optimistic perspective HOWEVER, DO NOT BE A DUMMY. . . My unsolicited advice would be to make them prove and work for your forgiveness, remember the Three of Pentacles came out with the Three of Swords. Donât allow one nice gesture ( or 5) , make you forget what transpired in the past. FORGIVE BUT NEVER FORGET!
I OFFER PERSONAL WRITTEN READINGS $20.00

Pile (3): Divine Timing
Cards: 9 of Pentacles reversed, Three of Swords, 9 Of Swords, Eight of Wands, Queen of Wands reversed â Unknown at the bottom of the deck.
If there is a person, they are on the outside looking in because you wonât allow them in. I feel inclined to say that if you chose this pile, you are either still hurting from recent \ past hurts AND OR, youâve learned from recent/ past hurts and decided that itâs best to stay to yourself. We all know how we feel and think when weâve been hurt in relationships so- whatâs understood does not need to be explained. We have also all heard the saying, â when you arenât looking for love, is when it finds youâ BLAH BLAH right? Well, to clarify the Eight of Wands that is laying on top of the 3 of Swords- is the World card. Dare I say, new love is coming in?! Out of respect for the Unknown and The World cards- (as they are major arcanaâs )
Therefore, indicates higher powers are at play here. It doesnât matter how intuitive, tapped in or â WOKEâ any of us claim to be, there are just some things that we will not be given clarity on when we want it. It feels like this is such a moment. It reminds me of the scripture in Matthew 24:36 â No one knows when that day or hour will come. Even the Angels in heaven and the Son donât know. Only the father knowsâ. Interestingly enough, a train is going by at this very moment. ( an Omen that things are on track) Â From my love oracle deck, the cards- Camera, Coffin, I Like You, Wedding Rings and Paradise came out. The Camera card says, learn from past memories, reminiscing and perception- so this confirms for some of you that you have learned from your past mistakes as I forementioned above ( I pull cards as I go) and The Coffin card says, endings, new beginnings, growth, change and liberation. Pile (1) may resonate for some of you. Themes of growth and spiders came out.
However, All in All, I see a happy ending with this pile. The details are just elusive. This pile is Divinely Guided and on Divine timing. If you chose this pile and are not satisfied, that is a clear indication that you do not trust in The Divine and wish to be in control- which you will never be. Iâm just the messenger.

read a book for me. đ
inspired by people who were curious about the books featured in xzâs video, letâs take a look at what they are. iâd like to think these were pre approved by XZ and are related to his interests. iâm not removing tge possibility that one of these were chosen by someone from xzs or the director himself. iâm tagging this as cpn because there will be some cpn. if you donât wanna go that route and just enjoy learning about the titles featured, then go ahead. đ
1. Restoration House by Kennesha Bucks
You don't have to live in your dream house to make your living spaces feel more like home. Home is meant to be a place to belong. A place to gather and connect. A place of beauty. A place to restore your soul. In Restoration House, author and designer Kennesha Buycks will encourage you to embrace your home and your story so you can create mindful spaces that give life to you, your loved ones, and all who enter.
2. LORI WILDE
that red book just says the authorâs name and no actual title but if you look her up, sheâs all about that romance novel. here is her website if you wanna know what i mean. if you move a bit, the spine of it says âboyâ so i think it maybe one of those books that has the cowboys in it!
3. Next is LIT UP, which is a black book. Iâm not so sure if itâs a real book and when you search it, there are a couple of contenders. Tho i personally gravitate towards p2 since itâs black and the plot of the story is something i think XZ will enjoy!
it says out of the cubicle and into the real world, itâs like him getting out of his work cubicle years ago and discovering the world.
book overview:
Eddy Gilmore found himself on societyâs fringe after being exiled from Corporate America. Despite years of higher education and exemplary service inside a cubicleâs pixelated world, he had no tangible or transferable skills to offer his community. Amazingly, failure was the door into tapping dreams and gifts that had long been ignored as impractical.
This true to life adventure is a pilgrimage into the real world, a place where neighbors make and produce things that sustain life and bring joy. When their eyes were opened to the talents all around them, Eddy and his wife discovered how to produce value themselves, and sank roots into the community. By working together, they are building a life they might never need to retire from.
4. The Interior Design Handbook
Frida Ramstedt believes in thinking about how we decorate, rather than focusing on what we decorate with. We know more today than ever before about design trends, furniture, and knickknacks, and now Frida familiarizes readers with the basic principles behind interior and stylingâwhat looks good and, most of all, why it looks good.
The Interior Design Handbook teaches you general rules of thumbâlike what the golden ratio and the golden spiral are, the proper size for a coffee table in relation to your sofa, the optimal height to hang lighting fixtures, and the best ways to use a mood boardâcomplete with helpful illustrations. Use The Interior Design Handbook to achieve a balanced, beautiful home no matter where you live or what your style is.
5. Limits of the Known
A celebrated mountaineer and author searches for meaning in great adventures and explorations, past and present.
David Roberts, "veteran mountain climber and chronicler of adventures" (Washington Post), has spent his career documenting voyages to the most extreme landscapes on earth. In Limits of the Known, he reflects on humanityâsâand his ownârelationship to extreme risk. Part memoir and part history, this book tries to make sense of why so many have committed their lives to the desperate pursuit of adventure.
In the wake of his diagnosis with throat cancer, Roberts seeks answers with sharp new urgency. He explores his own lifelong commitment to adventuring, as well as the cultural contributions of explorers throughout history: What specific forms of courage and commitment did it take for Fridtjof Nansen to survive an eighteen-month journey from a record "farthest north" with no supplies and a single rifle during his polar expedition of 1893â96? What compelled Eric Shipton to return, five times, to the ridges of Mt. Everest, plotting the mountainâs most treacherous territory years before Hillary and Tenzingâs famous ascent? What drove Bill Stone to dive 3,000 feet underground into North Americaâs deepest cave?
What motivates the explorers we most admire, who are willing to embark on perilous journeys and push the limits of the human body? And what is the future of adventure in a world we have mapped and trodden from end to end?
6. Eat, Drink, Nap: Bringing the House Home
The quintessential style, cooking, and home interior book from Soho House, the world's leading members' club.

7. Styled
Itâs easy to find your own style confidence once you know this secret: While decorating can take months and tons of money, styling often takes just minutes. Even a few little tweaks can transform the way your room feels.
At the heart of Styled are Emily Hendersonâs ten easy steps to styling any space. From editing out what you donât love to repurposing what you canât live without to arranging the most eye-catching vignettes on any surface, youâll learn how to make your own style magic.
With Emilyâs style diagnostic, insider tips, and more than 1,000 unique ideas from 75 envy-inducing rooms, youâll soon be styling like you were born to do it.
8. The other book iâm seeing is WINTER TID then it cuts off so again itâs tricky to confirm what it is! My best guess is WINTER TIDE but if you google that â i canât connect how XZ will read that lol.
EDIT: adding this one seen from the alternate MV,
The Tale of the Body Thief by Anne Rice
is a vampire novel by American writer Anne Rice, the fourth in her The Vampire Chronicles series, following The Queen of the Damned (1988). Published in 1992, it continues the adventures of Lestat, specifically his efforts to regain his lost humanity during the late 20th century.
=========
now letâs look at the CPN.
i see fans saying the style related books could be because of his work before. but he is more of a digital and design artist right? he does logos and stuff that can help their brand identity. i donât remember him being an interior designer. there is also the eat, drink, nap which has topics on cooking and being a good host. these books are making me clown so hard! my head canon is xz is keeping himself busy ( as if he is not busy enough already ) with designing their home. his and wybâs â if that wasnât clear enough, thatâs what iâm insinuating. if he isnât traveling, i would imagine he is the type who just wants to spend time at home in between jobs. it is their home. their sanctuary. so xz would make sure that it is according to what they both want and that itâs stylish.
and when he is at home sipping wine, while waiting for Bobo, is he reading a LORI WILDE BOOK? lol. sexy millionaire cowboy you say? đđđđ
đđđđđ
or reading something like the LIT UP book which is more up his alley ( but again iâm not sure if this is the exact title )
what is out of place is limits of the known. out of place compared to the theme of the other books, but xz is someone who is into nature and climbing of sorts. but i havenât seen him climb the way yibo did in ETU. the most popular cpn is that this is yiboâs contribution to the selection. or maybe he read it after yibo and liked it. OR he is also becoming interested in rock climbing â which is not a far off possibility.
-END.

saigeâs terrortober presentsâŚ
offering
unbeknownst to you, zeke has chosen you to be his cultâs next virgin sacrifice. a pining eren knows exactly what he needs to do to save you.
cultist!eren jaeger x fem!reader
contents/warnings: mentions of murder, vaginal fingering, unprotected sex, loss of virginity, praise, corruption kink, breeding, protective and possessive eren, mentions of âpurityâ
wc: 2k
18+ MINORS DNI
eren felt as if time had frozen around him when the name of the chosen sacrifice tumbled from zekeâs lips.
your name.
you, the kind girl from his english lecture.
you, who gives him a pencil when he forgets his own.
you, who explains assignments to him with patient words.
you, who shares whatever snack youâve brought without hesitation.
you, with your soft smile and sweet laugh, who was going to be cut to death on the altar zeke stood behind this upcoming equinox.
âsheâs a virgin?â flochâs grimy voice pulled eren back to reality, and it took every ounce of the self-control that already came scarce to him to refrain from knocking the gingerâs teeth in. âcould have had me fooled, way too pretty for her cherry not to be popped.â
zeke chuckled at flochâs remark. âmy source is never wrong, sheâs completely pure. she probably will be our cutest offer yet, though.â
they were gonna kill you, he was supposed to kill you. eren thinks about you when he falls asleep, when he wakes up, and all the hours in between. his little crush thatâs been festering since the beginning of the semester would come to a thrilling conclusion when he hands his brother the dagger.
he couldnât let it happen.
to hell with the brotherhood, he wouldnât let them take you away from him.
eren knew the sacrifice always had to be a virgin, that was the one golden rule since the founders first drew blood centuries ago.
ascending up the hidden catacombâs stairs after zeke adjourned the meeting, eren already had his plan mapped out- he just couldnât tell if he was thinking more with his brain or his dick.
it was time for him to make you unqualified.
____
âthanks for offering to tutor me, i really need it,â eren said with a smile, opening the door to his room.
âitâs no problem! i needed something to do this afternoon, anyways!â
you had that smile on your face again, a little twinkle in your eye as you looked up at him. damn, you were so beautiful. he hoped he could pull this off.
within a few minutes, the two of you were sitting on his bed, you holding a textbook open in your lap as you pointed to different literary techniques. erenâs gaze kept drifting off of the pages and onto the exposed skin of your legs, little skirt you were wearing riding up as you sat.
you trailed off in your description of a motif when you felt a warm hand on your thigh. blinking, you turned to see erenâs face extremely close.
â...is everything okay?â you asked slowly, face heating up. men were never in your personal space like this, much less one as attractive as eren. the proximity was causing you to become flustered.
you tried to stand, get some distance between the two of you, only to trip and land right on erenâs lap. your startled eyes met his shining sea green ones, and the urge to kiss him surged through you.
eren knew he was about to have you right where he wanted, having enough past flings to know the tells of a woman. he just needed to give you one more little push, one more and then he can put his plan into motion.
bringing a hand to cup your cheek, he spoke to you softly. âcan i kiss you?â
âiâŚâ
âwe donât have to do anything if youâre uncomfortable,â he said, stroking your face tenderly as if your life wasnât currently hanging in the balance.
erenâs care felt genuine to you and your eyelids fluttered shut, leaning your lips up to meet his. the kiss was careful, eren gently applying pressure as if he didnât want to do too much and scare you away.
you felt a shiver run down your spine when his tongue slid into your mouth, trying not to make your lack of experience obvious as he explored the wet cavern.
a hand going under your skirt, however, had you jolting. grabbing erenâs wrist before he could go further, you broke away from his lips with a pant. âwait!â
âwhat is it?â he asked, already knowing full well what the answer would be.
âiâve neverâŚyou knowâŚâ you trailed off, and something about the look on his face told you that he understood perfectly.
âdo you want to?â
please say yes, say yes so he can protect you.
you bit your lip, unsure. you knew nothing about sex, and the unknown was always nerve wracking to you. on the other hand, you had this nice, handsome guy that you were already acquainted with offering to take your virginity.
not many girls get this type of opportunityâŚ
you nodded. âyeah, can we please just go slow?â
âof course, princess, we can go as slow as you want.â
it didnât matter how you wanted it, all that mattered was that erenâs cock got to split your virgin cunt open.
his fingers resumed their trek up your inner thigh, tracing the outline of your panties.
âiâm gonna prep you first, okay, baby? make it hurt less.â
âokay,â you replied, breath hitching when you felt erenâs thumb slide into your underwear, immediately going to rub circles into your sensitive nub.
the stimulation had you jerking instantly, not familiar with the pleasure that was being inflicted on you.
âoh-oh!â
âthat feel good?â he asked, sliding a finger into your pussy that was growing slicker by the second.
âmhm.â
this felt so much different than from when youâd play with yourself, not realizing how electrifying it was to have fingers between your folds that werenât yours.
he added his index finger into your pussy, dark desire twisting his insides at how tightly you clamped on that one finger. starting to pump in and out slowly, eren cooed at you.
ârelax, princess, âm gonna take care of you. youâre gonna be okay, yeah?â
you nodded at his words, not knowing the double meaning behind them. eren started to thrust his finger faster, rubbing against your bud with more intent. mewls left your lips at the sensation, humping his hand pathetically.
erenâs eyes were trained on you. the sight of you crumbling and succumbing to a manâs touch for the first time was breathtaking. the brunette was starting to think this could be love.
your thighs were quaking around his hand, slick dripping all over his lap. he relished in the mess, knowing that now you were probably loosened up enough.
âalright, pretty girl,â he kissed underneath your ear. âi think youâre ready for my cock.â
he gently maneuvered you off of his lap and onto his bed, lowering you down with so much care it made your throat feel tight. tugging your panties off before taking his own shirt off, he looked down at you.
âcan you show me those pretty titties, princess?â
you blinked up at him dreamily, obeying his command as your shirt joined his on the floor. not even a second had passed after your bra fell from your shoulders when his large hands were cupping your breasts, squeezing at them in a way that had your eyes screwing shut.
âeren!â
he gave you a little kiss on your forehead as he leaned over you, palms leaving your chest as he grabbed a pillow to place under your hips. you took a deep breath, trying to settle your jittery nerves as you observed eren remove the rest of his clothing.
eren stopped you when you tried to take your skirt off.
âleave it.â
he pushed it out of the way, your glossy cunt appearing. the view of you completely naked with just your skirt bunched around your waist had erenâs mind shortcircuiting. he wanted to burn this image into his memory forever, and knowing he would be the first person to ever see you like this was even better.
if he had it his way, heâd be the only.
spreading your thighs open wider, eren slotted himself in between them. he grabbed hold of your hips, bringing them closer in a way that had your whole body being dragged down the bed. you yelped at his display of strength.
âsorry, princess,â he said with a sheepish smile. his tip prodded at your entrance. âdeep breath fâ me, okay?â
the way he pierced you open was addicting, every inch of his dick spearing your virgin walls had your toes curling. you didnât expect penetration to feel this good the first time. all your friends told you it would hurt the first several tries, but leave it to eren jaeger to throw you for yet another loop.
you felt his pubic bone become flush against yours.
âtaking all of me your very first go? such a good fucking girl, damn.â
it was done. your virginity was his. zeke could no longer butcher you on that cold, stone altar in front of his whole brotherhood. eren had never felt so proud of himself, the knowledge that his girl was now safe and sound due to his plan had his skin tingling in excitement. he tightened his grip on your hips, trying so hard to keep himself grounded. he had promised you slow.
yet, as always, you proved to be heaven-sent.
âeren,â you babbled to him. âmove, please! wanâ you to move.â
the frenzied gleam in his eye made your pussy throb. the brunette wasted no time in listening to your plea, bucking into you like his life depended on it- oh, the irony.
you screamed out, hands flying to fist the sheets beside you as eren kept your pelvis locked in place, subject to thrust after thrust of his cock. the pleasure was already swirling inside you as if it was a tornado, the high that was building from earlier now picking back up its rise.
âfeel so good, so good, fuck.â
never had he been in a cunt this warm and tight. eren intended on molding it to the shape of him, ruining it for anyone else. heâd make sure you wouldnât even want anyone else.
âperfect, princess,â he grit out. âfucking perfect pussy.â
his praise and pace made you feel lightheaded, falling further into the haze of ecstasy he was shrouding you in. you werenât sure how much more you could take.
âi-i think âm closeâŚâ
âyeah? me too baby.â
with the way you were gripping him, it was a miracle eren hadnât already busted. he angled his hips to hit even deeper, adding a finger to your clit again in hopes of finishing the both of you off.
âwhere do you want me?â
your answer shocked him. âinside!â
fuck, you were gonna be the death of him.
âmy princess wants to be filled up, huh?â
who was he to deny you?
one final plunge into your walls timed perfectly with the rub of his thumb had you clenching hard on his dick, muscles spasming as you orgasmed. eren was spurred into his own climax, spilling into you. his eyes were glued to your face, your cockdrunk expression almost enchanting to him as he watched you fall apart.
slowly pulling out, the brunette was in awe at his cum leaking out of you. deciding to worry about his sheets later, he crawled up the bed to see your drooping eyes.
laying down next to you, eren engulfed your frame with his. he held your head against his chest as you drifted off, exhaustion taking over.
____
zeke put his book down as he heard his phone ping, surprised to see he had gotten a text from eren. his brother hardly ever messaged him.
his interest was piqued even more when he saw it was a picture.
opening the image, however, had zeke wanting to chuck the device across the room.
while eren made sure to have the covers pulled up enough, the blonde could still tell it was you from your side profile resting on his brotherâs torso.
another ping.
âyou might need to pick a new offering, my bad.â
zeke knew the smug bastard didnât feel guilty in the slightest.

Infernal Sweet Dreams:
Tav fell asleep in the presence of (Zevlor, Rolan, Raphael, or Haarlep). How will they bid goodnight to the sleepy adventurer? The nights have been coming earlier so I felt it is about time I wrote a night time inspired prompt.
Zevlor:
You've fallen asleep on my watch again as we looked on at the city's burning lanterns flicker from far down below. At your insistence you wished to see the morning together. Though I could have awoken you when that time had come after my patrol had concluded of my nightly service. Still your presence is appreciated even when you are whisked away, Off to wherever your consciousness puts your mind at ease.
Leaning yourself onto my weighted shoulders but with you I paid no mind. Our legs swinging with the warm night's winds balancing precariously on the edge of our rooftop reconnaissance. I will be on guard till you a rise from your peaceful slumber. May you take as much rest as you need. For the only one who held faith I could be redeemed. But for now let your head rest, my dear. I will be your shield for the endless nights. I reliable blade coming morning should you ever need. With you I'll become anything to protect that tender heart of yours. I'll bid you well with a hush lullaby as I bring your kind hand to my lips. âThe sun has come to say goodnight, little hellion. The moon will say farewell soon. Before they leave, they will impart a small parting gift upon your head. For every star out is a little sun, Another soul that will be guided within your rays. Another dawn and another tomorrow. Another moment for me to adore you.â You are worth more than I am deserving, my dear. I would happily kneel before you, to swear another oath under your name. I will follow wherever you shall lead, my humble liege. Till then my radiant rays, I'll be here awaiting for your return.
Rolan:
The nights were the times I am left alone with all manners of thoughts. For better or for worse, I've been unable to keep my hand steady. At midnight in the wake of my studies I am only left to chastise myself yet again begrudgingly so. There is no end to my work in sight. There is too much for my mind to say if I'm truly capable of maintaining the life that I've built. I only have you to thank for that possibility to be my reality. To even exist and have these late night confessions at all if I were to call it that. To have some semblance of normalcy for a life filled with uncertainty. You know you could have fallen for any other but you have chosen me. Well your taste is impeccable I must admit and hopefully my siblings hadn't played a part. Shifting your head against my chest, I rubbed your back absentmindedly to usher you to rest. I wish to not be just some pitiful tiefling you took charity of you know. I should have dissuade you from falling asleep in my arms for you to lay in plush pillows and quilts instead. For how long will I allow you to continue your experiment. Somehow this is the only place you have found, that you sleep so sound within the blink of your eyes. Tonight was another trial to test if that hypothesis of yours is true. This is not the best for the both of us. I looked on at the piles of books and scrolls that cluttered my desk. There is still much work for me to get done and having you curled in my lap won't be a good sleeping habit of yours. My claws reach out to you seeking to stroke your downy hair. But I would be lying to say I didn't enjoy your snores that have me cracking a smile. To your random spurts of dream mumblings that have me interrupt my calculations to let out a silent chuckle, that I have to suppress to not jostle you awake. The gentle rhythm of your breaths between the scratching of quill marks putting my anxious mind at ease. I'll finish my work earlier than usual these coming days so you won't have to continue to suffer on my behalf. Sleep soundly for now my love. I'll apologize to you when I come to wake you for when I have breakfast ready and served. Let me finish this one last line that I have dipped onto my hand. Soon I'll carry you off to our proper bed and tuck you comfortably in for the night. You'll receive a long rest I assure you. That is a promise that I seal with a lingering press to your crown. Pleasant dreams, my meddling love. I will join you in just a moment.
Raphael:
It was only a simple task I assigned to you. To transcribe the rules of obedience and personal conduct that is to be upheld in my humble home. Yet, here I have found you in a pool of your own spittle smearing the fresh ink on your written parchment. Gripping the hairs of your scalp, I checked the progress of your lines.  How you disappoint me.  Dark blotches dripped down from your chin, the words of my law branded onto your cheek, arms covered in my principles of proper decorum.  Maybe those should be permanent and kept onto your flesh as a faithful remainder of your insolent insubordination.  I held your face up for you to read your poorly written script aloud.  Unfocused hazy eyes jumping across the page, mouth crooked speaking half thoughts of a rattled mind, limply your head dangled as if awaiting your sentencing within my firm hold. Maybe there is only so much knowledge that can be chiseled into that thick skull of yours. From your lips you mumbled the first line you have scrawled. âThe Master's word is law.â There is still hope for you yet. Even the most exquisite materials are fickle to command without the use of proper techniques and pristine care.  Like the many souls that came before you, overworking marble will surely shatter such as the fragileness of your kind. Picking you up into my arms, you remained sleeping soundly. I will set your lesson aside for now.  Under my disciplined hand your finer flaws have begun to crumble away as how I envisioned following in the blueprint of my design.  Letting you lay upon the expansive silks, I will grant you a moment of reprieve.  Time means nothing for I and now for you, little mouse. I will indulge in every chip to that mental fortitude of yours. Striking away at your layers with precision till you conform to my outline upon your skin. Appraising the rich veins that run through your interior you are such a fine grade indeed.  A beautiful work of art by my own creation. A treasured centerpiece for my grand pedestal. The great savior of Baldurâs Gate was made to be ruined. To be reduced to nothing more than a symbol of subservitude. The being who acquired my precious hammer, a possibility. For a crown, a certainty for there to be a uniting muse. Throwing onto you a blanket of crimson to conceal your delicate mortal vessel. I will be waiting to unveil you for my exhibition. The realms are filled with eager observers. My prestigious gallery awaits us outside these walls.  Closing the doors of my boudoir, the candlesâ light are now singed.  Sleep well, little mouse. I will come bearing tools in hand for when you awake. Your lessons will still resume tomorrow. You will suit my needs in time till then.  My request made to you as your body comes to still, is for you to dream my dreams, mouse. You can do that won't you?
Haarlep:
Could you snore any louder, mousey? I looked on as you tossed and turned in your sleep. Dreaming strange dreams probably, hopefully it is of me. Coughing and choking on your own spittle, how becoming of you at least you have stopped snoring. Â Â You grasp for the fleeting air that eludes you. There you laid huddled, willing your throat to be cleared with every fit. Your desperation clings heavily teasing my senses when taking a deep breath in. You know mortals have perished for much less but where is the fun in seeing you gone so soon. With a couple firm strikes between your shoulder blades, you gulp down the air so eagerly dear to you. Â The raise of your chest as your lungs were refilled once more with an exhale you mumbled something incoherent. Another line of that bratâs doctrine. "Was this how you treat the one who cares for you hmm?" He would have stood back and ignored you like all those many times before you know. I am generous enough to have some fleeting concern over you that is more than he's willing to bestow. Reaching out with a delicate claw, I traced the path of beading sweat that rolls down your stained face. "How many tears will you shed? How much pain will you tolerate?" How long will he be the reason that circulates through your airways? That contraption of yours is still leaking and what will you do when the beating finally ceases? Would you like that tragedy to unfold? There is nowhere else for you, mouse as I pull you in closer with the tie of my tail. My what terrible predicament you have found yourself in but there is only one way to save that precious apparatus of yours. All you have to do is hold your breath and give yourself to me, my precious little thief. "If you beg so sweetly I will have you patched up." There will be meaning to the hollowness you have felt for so long. No more of the dryness of this plane or the staleness that coats your tongue. Under my wings there will be a refuge. You will be whole once again like the day you first stepped into these wretched Hells. My wings come down onto you as you lay limply by my side. Wild winds will course through you when you open those eyes. I will remind you what it means to be alive. "You only need but to ask. I will continue to take care of you, little mouse." I have yet to take your breath away. "Sleep tight but be forewarned, the incubus does bite."

Gotham Baby Switch Mystery (DCXDP) - Part 2
Gotham Baby Switch Mystery (DCXDP) - Part 2
Inside the Infinite Realms, Clockwork was furiously sifting through timelines. An emergency meeting had been called, not just with the most powerful ghosts, but also with immortal demons and anyone else with the authority to intervene. There had been a monumental error in this timeline, and Clockwork had just discovered who was responsible. Worse, there was no way to undo the damage. The misstep had been made, and now they had no choice but to move forward and manage the consequences.
As the ancient beings gathered, the Head Observer turned to Clockwork, his voice filled with urgency.
Head Observer: "Clockwork, have you figured out how this error happened? We were all in agreement with Lady Gothamâs plan for this timeline. Even the ancient ghostsâwe all agreed. How did this happen? And more importantly, how did Lady Gotham not realize what went wrong before it was too late? Our chosen warrior has already received their powers."
Clockwork: (sighing deeply) "Thereâs only one being who could cause this chaos and see the oversight. And with this realization, I now know whoâs behind it." (Clockworkâs voice turned cold) "Itâs Eris."
Head Observer: "Eris? No. Even she knows better than to step out of line with the Infinite Realmsâ balance. Why would she do this? Noâdonât answer that. I already know the answer."
Clockwork: "Exactly. Something else is at play here. Because of Erisâs meddling, we are now in full damage control mode. We must use every artifact, every being, every Neverborn, and every demonâeveryone must pitch in. Not just to appease Lady Gotham, but to prevent the end of the world."
Head Observer: "Clockwork, do you know how this will unfold? Do you know what events will lead to the coming disaster?"
Clockwork: (pauses, his expression grim) "I havenât figured out the exact events yet. However, I do know it involves an artifactâthe Reality Gauntlet. Thatâs all I can say for now. Erisâs interference has clouded the timeline, making it difficult for me to see the full picture. It might take daysâor even weeksâto understand how everything fits together. For now, we focus on damage control."
Just as Clockwork finished speaking, Deadman appeared within the Infinite Realms, specifically in Clockworkâs domain, and he came with an urgent message.
Deadman: "Ancient ones, I bring news from the Justice League Dark. The supernatural community has sensed something amiss. Even members of the Justice Leagueâthose tied to the Green Lantern Corps, the Amazons, the Atlanteans, and other extraterrestrial beingsâare feeling the growing dread. Itâs as if the beginning of the end has already started. I come to ask for clarification. You see, John Constantineâ"
Head Observer: "John Constantine? You mean the mortal who sells his soul every chance he gets, using his silver tongue to get out of his deals? Heâs heard of the prophecy."
Deadman: (responding) "Yes, he has."
Clockwork: (dryly) "Constantine. Of course, he has. What is it this time?"
Deadman: (seriously) "Itâs a prophecy about a warriorânot from the land of the living, nor from the Infinite Realmsâwho will defeat Pariah Dark, the Ghost King, in single combat. This prophecy is one we all agreed upon when Prometheus shared his last prophecy before his core was shattered by Pariah Dark. But Constantine was also told of another prophecy, one that mentions the Wrath of Lady Gotham."
Clockwork: (narrowing his eyes) "That prophecy about the warrior defeating Pariah Dark is true. It happens in every timeline. Itâs an event we canât change. The warrior will always defeat Pariah Dark in single combat and become the new ruler of the ghosts of the Infinite Realms. That is set. However, the mention of Lady Gotham is the deviationâthe change that none of us expected. That is the new variable we need to deal with. That prophecy was never part of the original plan."
Deadman: (pausing) "So what does that mean for us? For this timeline?"
Clockwork: (gravely) "It means that the interference of Gothamâspecifically Lady Gotham and her warriorsâhas set off a chain of events that we cannot fully comprehend yet. I need you to deliver this message to Constantine. Word for word. Let him know that the prophecy about the warrior defeating Pariah Dark is true, but the role of Lady Gotham in this timeline is the wildcard. He must understand that this is not just about a warriorâs victory; itâs about the fate of all realms, and Gothamâs wrath may become the catalyst for destruction."
Deadman: (nodding) "Understood. Iâll make sure Constantine knows exactly whatâs at stake."
Clockworkâs tone softened slightly, but the weight of what he was about to say still hung heavily in the air.
Clockwork: "The original plan, when we first discovered that the warrior was from Gotham and had ties to Lady Gothamâs warriorsâspecifically to The Dark Knightâwas to let the timeline unfold as intended. Yes, the baby swap happened. The child, originally presumed dead, was found again. But when Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul discovered their daughterâliving a happy, normal lifeâthey chose not to bring her into their world. A world of assassinations, vigilante work, and endless violence. They decided their daughter would live a peaceful life, away from all of that."
Head Observer: "But thatâs not how things happened, is it?"
Clockwork: "No. It isnât. Their daughter, Danny, went on to live a normal life. The strain between Bruce and Talia has mended, but itâs always been there, lingering. It wasnât until Damian, their second child, discovered that he had an older sister that the pieces started to fall into place. He wanted to meet her. On the same day that Danny began her transformation into something moreâbecoming SchrĂśdinger's cat, a being who is both alive and dead, with all the advantages and disadvantages of those two worlds."
Deadman: (frowning) "So Dannyâs ghost powers were triggered at the same time?"
Clockwork: "Yes. And this is where things went off course. Danny is now discovering her ghost powers. And with the knowledge that her biological family is essentially going to undo everything, we face our only chance of defeating Pariah Dark when he awakens from his eternal slumber. But now, everything is in jeopardy. We are managing this situation, but time is running out."
Head Observer: (concerned) "You said something about a man-made portal. What does that have to do with all of this?"
Clockwork: (pauses, his eyes narrowing) "A man-made portal has been opened somewhere near the Americas. But I cannot tell you the exact location yet. What I can tell you is that the Americas are facing a blackout, which stretches across several states. The power grid failure is caused by a faulty electrical wire, but we cannot rule out the possibility that it is connected to the man-made portal. The location of the portal coincides with the area where Danny lives. However, no one knows for certain if the power outage is caused by the portal or by the US power grid failure."
Deadman: (grimly) "So the situation is even more complicated than we thought. What do we do now?"
Clockwork: (pauses, then speaks more quietly) "We are sending someone to protect Danny. A spirit guide, a mentor, someone to safeguard her as she navigates these dangerous waters. You must tell Constantine that the ancient beings are intervening, and we will not let her face this alone. Gotham must be appeased. And we must ensure that Danny does not fall victim to the chaos unfolding."
Deadman: (nodding) "Iâll make sure Constantine knows everything. And Iâll make sure he understands how critical this is for the entire multiverse."
Clockwork nodded, his expression hardening.
Clockwork: "Then go. We have no time to waste."
After Deadman had left, the Head Observer turned toward Clockwork, his expression stern, a growing tension in his voice.
Head Observer: "Clockwork, now that Deadman is gone, I must ask youâwhy were you so vague about the location of our Chosen One? I understand not disclosing the exact city where they live, but why only mention the Americas, specifically the United States? What have you seen so far?"
Clockwork: (pauses, eyes narrowing thoughtfully) "Iâve seen enough to know that thereâs a potential that Bruce Wayne might take his daughter back to Gotham. In my heart, I believe that this would be the right choice for herâafter all, Gotham is where she belongs. But for the good of the realms, it is not. Not anymore."
The ancient ghost's voice dropped in weight, and he glanced briefly at the dimly lit realms around him, lost in thought.
Clockwork: "Iâve chosen the Neverborn Ghost of Hopeâsheâs connected to the Blue Lantern Corps. She has the ability to travel through the Multiverse with ease and can bring in heroes from any timeline, any world, any media, or literature. She will help protect our Chosen One."
Head Observer: (nodding slowly) "I see. And what else have you seen? Do you truly believe that following this Chosen One prophecy is the right path, even though we both know that this childâour Chosen Oneâdoesnât deserve this life, nor did they want it?"
Clockwork: (his gaze hardens, a flash of sadness behind his eyes) "Iâve seen countless timelines of Danny Phantom. And in each one, he/she has risen to the occasionâalways standing as a protector of the people, whether from the city or the citizens of the Infinite Realms. Phantom would make a great ruler of the Infinite Realmsâone of the best. That doesnât mean this child wonât face hardship. But each lesson learned, each challenge overcome, brings them closer to understanding what it means to rule."
Clockwork: (continuing) "In fact, itâs because of this childâs growth that weâve avoided entire wars from breaking out. Wars that would have torn the Infinite Realms apartâwars between us and the United States, possibly Canada as well. Iâve seen timelines where, if Danny hadnât stepped in, the realms would have been at war with Earth."
The Head Observer absorbed the weight of Clockworkâs words before replying.
Head Observer: "So, what now? Will the events of previous timelines, the ones where Danny becomes Phantom, still unfold? Or will there be new changes?"
Clockwork: "There will be changes. Danny will fight with more intensity than ever before. What I have seen so far is that at some point, she will realize that the man-made portalâthe one opening into the Infinite Realmsâis, in a twisted way, her grave."
Head Observer: (eyes narrowing in realization) "Ah, yes. I know the custom well. Us Ghosts do not take kindly to those who desecrate or vandalize our own graves."
Clockwork: (nodding slowly) "Exactly. And you know, ghost customs are sacred. We donât speak of how one dies, even among ourselves. But this revelation will hit Danny hard. She will understand, eventually, that her grave is the portal. And all the ghosts that come through said portal are subconsciously violating one of the sacred rules. It may take some time, but when the right antagonist faces her, she will realize the truth."
Head Observer: (slightly frustrated) "And do you know which antagonist will bring this truth to light?"
Clockwork: "There are a few possible ghosts who might lead her to this understanding. But because of Erisâs meddling, the timeline is still blurry. I wonât know for certain until things calm down."
Head Observer: "So, is our Chosen One in the hospital now?"
Clockwork: "Yes. Sheâs currently recovering. The Ghost of Medicine is tending to her. As we speak, sheâs being cared for by a healer unlike any we've ever seen."
The Head Observer raised an eyebrow, slightly amused.
Head Observer: "Is it⌠Lady Tsunade? Why does the Ghost of Medicine and Healing look like Lady Tsunade from the world of Naruto? And furthermore, why that form? Why not any regular human form disguise?"
Clockwork: (chuckling lightly) "It seems so. The Ghost of Hope, with her ability to travel across the Multiverse, brought in various images of healers from different timelines. It appears the Ghost of Healing is quite taken with Lady Tsunadeâs appearance. At least she's wearing the proper medical attire."
Head Observer: (chuckling as well) "I see. A fitting choice, then."
Clockwork: (grinning faintly) "Indeed."
Head Observer: "So, are we calling the Ghost of Hope by her name or her preferred alias? Since she does seem to enjoy using names from the living world, I assume this is her choice?"
Clockwork: (with a sigh) "Yes, it was her choice. The issue with names is that Neverborn ghosts, who are born from humans concept for example the concept of time, dreams, sleep, anger, hope⌠we have all been given multiple names throughout the world, and in different religions, our names change as well. It is often that ghosts choose our own names, or because we have multiple names, we just automatically choose the one that we prefer at a given moment. Take me, for example. I've been known as many things, including Kronos, but Iâve never liked that name. I prefer being called Clockwork, though I donât get to choose what the living world calls me. As for Hope, sheâs chosen a name from a universe sheâs particularly fond of. And yes, sheâs using it as her alias. Sheâs taken to calling herself Serenityâor Sera, as her nickname."
Head Observer: (chuckling lightly) "Ah, Serenity. I wonder how sheâll manage this responsibility. Or perhaps, how Sera willâŚ"
Clockwork: (smiling softly) "Only time will tell."
Note: Hereâs Part 2âI hope you like it! Iâm not great with names, so if you have any suggestions for what to call the Head Observer, feel free to share them. If a particular name gets a lot of likes or agreement, Iâll consider changing it in the near future. I also want to clarify that Danny still gets her powers the same way as in the original timeline; what Iâm exploring here is the aftermath of that event within the Infinite Realms
Part 3 will build up to Danny getting her powers, and it will also include Bruce and the others meeting Jazz and exploring the Fenton works. Itâs possible that Part 3 or Part 4 will feature an interaction with the hospital. Toward the end of Part 3 or the beginning of Part 4, we will see how the Infinite Realms react to the man-made portal being activated in the Fenton works and what the effects are inside the Infinite Realms.
Iâve seen a few prompts and fanfictions that describe what itâs like inside the Infinite Realms when something like this happens, and how they react when they learn that a man-made ghost portal has opened. I really like seeing multiple points of view, so youâll probably get that in Part 3 or the beginning of Part 4.

Aang x Luke Skywalker Parallels: How Aangâs Heroâs Journey Wasn't Properly Finished
I read this post by @lovegrowsart and I couldn't get it out of my mind how Aang and Luke Skywalker's journeys have so much in common, yet only one of these arcs feels like it has come to a properly finished conclusion. Meanwhile, the other one feels like the character didn't learn what he was supposed to in order to fulfill his Hero's Journey arc. So, in this post, I want to expand more on why âAang was supposed to be the Luke Skywalker of Avatar: The Last Airbenderâ, but the creators of A:TLA failed to properly finish his story.
Firstly, itâs important to point out that the Star Wars saga and universe are widely famous in pop and nerd culture, including Luke Skywalker, the Jedi protagonist, who himself is one of the most famous and beloved characters from the saga. So, itâs not really a reach to assume that the creators and writers of Avatar: The Last Airbender were - at some level - inspired by this famous universe and character. By doing a quick research, we can confirm this assumption, because Bryan Konietzko, one of the co-creators of A:TLA, said in a podcast that Dave Filoni helped to shape A:TLA and its story. Also, both creators said that Joseph Campbellâs writing about mythology helped them to create the Heroâs Journey and the other storylines for their show, and George Lucas was also heavily inspired by Campbell when he was writing Star Wars.
(I will refer to the Star Wars episodes of the original trilogy as one, two and three - even though, nowadays, they are the numbers four, five and six).
Bryke (Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino, the co-creators of Avatar: The Last Airbender) and George Lucas share a lot of tropes and narratives in the stories that each one of them created. Both protagonists of the sagas are the '"chosen one" of their universe: both are the last of their kind (even though in the Star Wars universe, initially there were two more older Jedi) who have the weight of the worldâs future on their shoulders. Aang needs to fight against the Fire Lord and Luke, initially, against Darth Vader. By doing this, they would bring balance to the world/galaxy.
Itâs also important to emphasize how Luke Skywalker and Aang are not only the saviors of the story, they are also the last of their kind. In A:TLA and in Star Wars, we have populations that suffered genocide: the Airbenders were brutally exterminated by the Fire Nation during Sozinâs Comet, and initially, it was revealed in the original Star Wars trilogy that the Jedi were wiped out of the galaxy when Order 66 happened. So, Luke and Aang not only have the destiny of the world/galaxy on their shoulders, they also are the only ones who can continue the legacy, the culture, and the survival of their own kind.
Another parallel between Luke Skywalker and Aang is that both have a Mentor From Beyond. Luke Skywalker was able to seek knowledge from the Jedis who had passed away in the original trilogy. Firstly, it was Obi-Wan Kenobi, who was his first mentor; Luke was able to communicate with him, and Obi-Wan would give him advice and directions to follow. Later, Yoda also appeared to him. For Aang, due to the fact that heâs the Avatar (and to be the Avatar means that you are the reincarnation of someone who already died), he was able to contact the Avatars from his past incarnations. In the show, Roku is the past Avatar with whom Aang most often connects, but he also seeks knowledge from Kyoshi, Kuruk, and Yangchen.
In Book One: Water and A New Hope, both characters are presented as more naive, and the narrative is not as tense as in the later seasons/episodes. However, the sequel presents a "darker" version of its universe as both characters grow and face emotional dilemmas and more hardships. The Empire Strikes Back and Book Two: Earth explore, even more, the ongoing war in their respective universes, and by the end of these sequels, things go wrong for the heroes. And what I really want to discuss is the similarity between the second episode of Star Wars and the second season of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
At some point in the second episode/season, Luke and Aang had to separate from their group of friends in order to learn more and to train. They had to seek knowledge of what they are and what they represent, because by doing this, they would be a step closer to fulfilling their duties and saving the galaxy/world. At this moment in the narrative, Luke and Aang have an older and wiser mentor who will try to help them achieve this: Yoda and Guru Pathik.
But neither Luke nor Aang finish these training sessions that they started, because during their training, they have a vision of people who are special to them currently in danger. So, even though Yoda and Guru Pathik advise them not to leave and to finish what they started, they leave. Luke goes to Cloud City to save his friends (Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and C3PO) and Aang goes to Ba Sing Se to save Katara. And as stated before, in this episode/season finale, things go wrong for the heroes, including to the protagonists who are supposed to be the saviors of both universes. Luke and Aang left their training even though they were advised otherwise, they went to fight without properly learning what they needed to learn. So when they faced the enemy, they lost. Both at the end were defeated: Aang quite literally dies and Luke has a metaphorical death when he learns about his parentage and loses one of his arms. He also "commits suicide" when he decides to jump instead of aligning himself with the Dark Side.
Now, something really important here is to talk about how Luke and Aang's attachments to people who are dear to them made them run away from what they should have been doing, instead of bringing them closer to their duties and destiny. It was understandable the reasons why they left their training, but it still was wrong in the sense that things went wrong and it ended tragically for both characters. And, itâs never portrayed in both sagas that loving someone is wrong, but being attached to someone is. Both of their Heroâs Journeys required them to learn the difference between what is love and what is attachment, because both concepts are different and one of them (attachment) is portrayed in both sagas as wrong, especially for the protagonists.
Although Iâm not Buddhist, nor was I raised as one, itâs clear that Star Wars (1) (2) and Avatar: The Last Airbender (1) (2) both were inspired, to some extent, by this religion and its philosophy. (I tried searching for articles and videos made by Buddhist people, but, unfortunately, I couldn't really find many, so if anyone wants to link more content, please, feel free). And one thing that appears to be inspired by this religion and philosophy in both sagas was the concept of attachment in contrast to love (1) (2). Before delving into the topic of attachment in the show and movie, itâs ideal to understand what attachment means from a Buddhist perspective:
In Buddhism, attachment is called upÄdÄna, which means grasping or clinging. It refers to the human tendency to cling to people, things, or ideas in the mistaken belief that they will bring us lasting happiness and fulfillment. Attachment arises from our desire to feel secure, comfortable, and control of our lives. (...) Attachment to people: Attachment to people can become a source of suffering, as we can become overly dependent on them for our happiness, identity, and sense of security. This attachment can take many forms, from romantic relationships to friendships and family bonds.
While searching for what would be the difference between love vs attachment in Buddhism, this quote also brought my attention (I'll definitely come back to this later):Â
Any kind of relationship which imagines that we can fulfill ourselves through another is bound to be very tricky. Ideally people would come together already feeling fulfilled within themselves and just therefore appreciating that in the other, rather than expecting the other to supply that sense of well-being.
George Lucas seemed to understand this concept better than Bryke. In Return of the Jedi, Luke Skywalker a) trusts his group of friends way more than he did in The Empire Strikes Back, b) he was also able to let go of his anger for Darth Vader because he genuinely loved Anakin, his father. George Lucas was very vocal about how he wanted to portray attachment as a bad thing, and when it comes to this topic, he never intended to make the Jedi philosophy something wrong. Strict? Maybe, but not wrong. And in the end, as the episodeâs title suggests, Luke "returns", as he also returns to Dagobah to contact his master, Yoda, one last time. (The title of this episode can also refer to Anakin returning to the Light Side, but art can be interpreted in different and many ways).
In contrast, Avatar: The Last Airbender presented Aangâs attachment to Katara in a bad light. The Guru episode shows that Aang's attachment to Katara, not his feelings, is what is making him fail to open his chakra and not being able to enter into the Avatar State.Â
Pathik: The Thought Chakra is located at the crown of the head. It deals with pure cosmic energy, and is blocked by earthly attachment. Meditate on what attaches you to this world. [Images of Katara appear before Aang.] Now, let all of those attachments go. Let them flow down the river, forgotten.
Itâs even more important to understand that what Aang feels for Katara is not genuine love, at least in this episode, itâs pretty much stated that he is attached to her in a way that he needs to learn to let go. To expand a little bit on this, itâs necessary to analyze two Avatar: The Last Airbender episodes and how they portray what Aang feels for Katara:
Firstly, 'The Fortuneteller' episode portrays Aangâs feelings for Katara as just a childish crush. There's nothing wrong with a childish crush in general, especially because Aang is, in fact, a child, so he's bound to be childish. But in this episode, what he feels for Katara is paralleled with what Meng feels for him: something that was one-sided and lacked "emotional maturity and self-awareness". Both Aang and Meng viewed their crushes in an overestimated and hyper-idealized way, which again was portrayed as silly and in a bad light.
Secondly, in 'The Guru' episode, it shows that yes, Aang does love Katara, but is it in the right way? The Air Nomads' genocide deeply affects Aang, and he still loves the people that he lost, obviously. But in the show, Guru Pathik states that the love that Aang felt for the Air Nomads was 'reborn' in a new love - his love for Katara. So, Aang is projecting his feelings of love for the people who were brutally exterminated onto the girl who, at this moment in the narrative, was only his dear friend who shows him support and fights alongside him. Aang needed to get closure and heal from this traumatic event; itâs a huge trauma that he should work through. But instead, he was coping by projecting his feelings onto something, or better, someone.
I personally think that Aang loves Katara to some extent, but he needed to work through his trauma first. This goes along with something already shown before, quoting: "people would come together [in a relationship] already feeling fulfilled within themselves and just therefore appreciating that in the other".
The chakra/Guru plotline in Avatar: The Last Airbender is not about Aang needing to stop loving Katara; that's a huge misunderstanding. It was about how Aang was attached to something (or someone, in his case) that he needed to learn to let go of, so he could progress, grow, and heal. After he fulfilled this arc about what's love vs attachment, two things could happen: a) maybe Aang would realize that his love for Katara was more platonic and that he was projecting a lot onto her because he sees her in an idealized way, or b) that he indeed loves her but he needs to realize that he's too much attached to the comfort that she gives and brings to him, so his feelings for her need to have more emotional maturity.
And in the end of season two, Aang actually let go of his attachment to Katara, and he was able to achieve the Avatar State. But unfortunately, after this, he was brutally attacked by Azula and had his chakra blocked.
But in Book Three: Fire, not only does he not return to see or contact Guru again, as Luke did (returned to see his older and wiser mentor, Yoda, in the third and final episode), but Aang also appears to still be attached to Katara in the same way that he already was, if not worse. In the Ember Island Players episode, he: 1) gets so mad and frustrated with the Players portraying his relationship with Katara in a non-romantic light that he says that he could go into the Avatar State over this, and 2) rushes things with Katara and kisses her without her consent, disrespecting her boundaries, after she just avoided his romantic questions and advances.
Point 1:
Aang: [Angered.] No, I'm not! I hate this play! [Yanks his hat off and throws it on the ground.] Katara: I know it's upsetting, but it sounds like you're overreacting. Aang: Overreacting? If I hadn't blocked my chakra, I'd probably be in the Avatar State right now!
Point 2:Â
Aang: But it's true, isn't it? We kissed at the Invasion, and I thought we were gonna be together. But we're not.Â
Katara: Aang, I don't know.Â
Aang: Why don't you know? Katara: Because, we're in the middle of a war, and, we have other things to worry about. This isn't the right time.
Aang: Well, when is the right time?Â
Katara: Aang, I'm sorry, but right now I'm just a little confused. [Aang tries to kiss Katara.]
Katara: I just said I was confused! I'm going inside. [Exits the balcony.]
All of this shows how he still lacked emotional maturity, and how he still was attached to Katara, in a way not much different from what was shown in Book Two: Earth. Overall, this shows how his feelings for her weren't properly developed and didn't grow from where they previously were â because it was still bound by an attachment that he needed to let go of in order to grow, heal, and learn.
Unfortunately, the Guru/Chakra plotline was completely brushed aside in Book Three: Fire; Aang doesn't even seek to see Guru again or continue his unfinished training. And in the end, when he was fighting the Fire Lord, what he was always meant to do, he managed to go into the Avatar State. Not because he trained or learned how to achieve this goal; actually, it was because a rock saved him by triggering the Avatar State. So, in the end, an entire plotline was ignored and forgotten. Aang didn't learn what he needed to learn with Guru, nor did he finish the training that he was meant to do, and he still was rewarded by the narrative with achieving the Avatar State and saving the world (and also, "getting the girl").
[(...) and Aang protects himself with an airbending shield but is pushed back by the force of the attack, crashing into a rock pillar. The scar on his back is hit with a point of the rock, causing him to flashback to when he was shot by lightning. (...) Aang jumps out, now in the Avatar State, and grabs Ozai by his goatee.]
And that's why Aang is the Luke Skywalker that we couldâve had. Luke finished his Hero's Journey; he learned what he needed to learn and because of it, he saved the galaxy and his father. Meanwhile, Aang didn't learn about love vs attachment, yet he still achieved what he needed to achieve from the beginning: the Avatar State and winning against the Fire Lord. And he only achieved that because the narrative chose to give him a final new solution to resolve all his problems instead of him directly dealing with and facing the problems, difficulties, and dilemmas that the narrative initially proposed to him.
(I donât actually mean quite literally that Aang needs or should have been the Luke Skywalker from Avatar: The Last Airbender, because Aang is his own character who has his own story. What I mean is that: Luke Skywalker is a character who is similar in some ways to Aang, and he had his Heroâs Journey properly fulfilled. I believe that Aang also deserved the same treatment by the creators of ATLA).

Shadow Curse Events Pt. 2
Harpers, druids, and the battle against Ketheric
So in Part 1, I talked about Kethericâs descent into Sharran zealotry and his attacks against all SelĂťnite faithful and anyone who so much as breathed a bad word about him. The TLDR is that Ketheric didnât just become a follower of Shar, he basically became the Prophet-General of her new dark army, her Chosen, establishing new teachings and protocols for what defined a Dark Justiciar. It got so bad, and he became so powerful, that a leader of the SelĂťnite resistance, Ketheric's own master mason Morfred, made a deal with Raphael to take out his Justiciars just to hopefully give the Harpers a chance.
Because, to no one's surprise, all of this murder and fearmongering has captured the attention of the Harpers, who feel the need to step in and restore some balance.
The rest of this post is basically going to be about the Harper-druid battle against Ketheric and the siege of Reithwin, culminating in him getting sealed up in his tomb. Buckle up and be prepared for a couple of graphic war things (cw: animal death). Part 3 will be about the first few days of the shadow curse itself, because I just find that eerie and fascinating.
Full deep dive under the cut! Super long post ahead :'>
âââ
The moment is nigh; war has been brewing, and now it overflows. When Ketheric turned us toward Shar, I followed him - in appearance, if not in heart. This is my home, and I would not be removed from it, no matter what. I watched at a distance as the darkness here grew; as Ketheric's grief brought him farther and farther from life itself. As he gathered his army, I prayed for his defeat. As the Harpers march upon our little village - our little, beautiful village - I can only hope Ketheric will be felled at last, and Reithwin can begin to heal from this nightmare.
Let me briefly set the stage. Reithwin Town is under the governance of Ketheric Thorm, former SelĂťnite-turned-Chosen-of-Shar. All SelĂťnite worship has been driven underground. Dark Justiciars train in some elusive location outside and beneath town, only to return in order to interrogate the citizens of Reithwin about their loyalties to Shar and to Ketheric. Bodies are hanging in the square as an example to those who might think about dissenting or professing their faith in SelĂťne. People are going missing or being executed every day, and Ketheric's desire to expand Shar's influence beyond the borders of Reithwin is only growing stronger. Rumors abound that he's already completely destroyed a nearby village, another SelĂťnite refuge called Moonhaven. And now, the citizens of Reithwin hear whispers on the wind that the Harpers will soon arrive from the east...and they're bringing an army.
If a citizen were to wish to flee, they'd be nearly out of luck. The Harpers are coming from the east, but Baldur's Gate lies in the west, and the leadership in Baldur's Gate is already suspicious. Ketheric has drawn the attention of Grand Duke Eltan, the founder of the Flaming Fist and the good-aligned general who aided the heroes of BG1 (like Jaheira) during the Sarevok crisis. He's heard whispers of a Sharran enclave and has ordered a scout to go and investigate. That scout is Art Cullagh.
Incidentally, in the last post I suggested that these events are happening either between 1371-1374 or between 1396-1399. We don't know when Grand Duke Eltan died, so either theory still holds water (pick whichever you like best), but I do think his involvement moves the needle a little more towards the 1371-1374 theory. Eltan has just wrapped up the Sarevok adventure with Jaheira and the other heroes in 1368 and was dealing with other issues in 1369. He would still be in the height of his power as a leader of Baldur's Gate and the Grand Marshal of the Flaming Fist in the early 1370s. So he would have a vested interest in trying to maintain peace in his city, and that includes investigating rumors of civil unrest and strange darkness in a town just up the river from him to make sure that whatever is happening there doesn't come downriver.
Eltan sends Art Cullagh, a lieutenant/officer of the Flaming Fist (and virtuoso with a lute, as we well know). I won't post images of his orders here, since it's a letter most of us have likely read when trying to fix the shadow curse. But essentially, he's ordered to take lodgings in Last Light Inn and begin his investigation in the House of Healing to confirm rumors of corruption and Sharran influence in town. We know he attempts to fulfill these commands because he's seen at the inn and later his lute is left behind at the House of Healing.
Shadow Vestige: You see a man drain his tankard in an inn as he listens to a Flaming Fist play the lute. He's better than his uniform might suggest.
Around the same time that Art is preparing to travel down and begin investigating, the Harpers are already at work gathering an army. They're not just making Ketheric their convenient enemyâthey're declaring all-out war.
They've gathered their evidence (after interrogating locals and possibly attempting to assassinate Ketheric from afar) and now they're ready to take the fight to him directly. But they need backup. So they write to the Emerald Enclave (not to be confused with the Emerald Grove) to arrange an alliance. Ketheric is going against nature, after all, and who better to call on for aid in preserving nature than the Emerald Enclave?
[The first few inches of this scroll are written in formal, elaborate script.] To the Emerald Enclave, and those deemed worthy to see this record, greetings from Those Who Harp. Know ye that the one known as Ketheric Thorm, a paladin of Shar, is guilty of crimes against body and spirit. They include, but are not limited to Murder, Slavery, and Desecration of Temples Most Holy. Let our intent be known: an alliance between the Harpers and the Emerald Enclave. United, we may end Thorm's reign of terror. The High Harpers eagerly await your good word.
The Emerald Enclave is massive, since it basically serves as the high council and umbrella organization for all druidic circles and groves that exist in FaerĂťn (or those who choose to align with the Emerald Enclave's tenants anyway). When the Harpers declare an alliance with the Enclave, those in charge of selecting allies make sure to enlist the druid circle that is local to that area, the Emerald Grove, since they will be the closest and have a stake in preserving the land around their grove. The Emerald Grove even immortalizes this alliance in their inner sanctum.
Image: Mural of Harpers and Druids shaking hands in front of an oak; Narrator reads: "In darkest hour, a concord made / 'Twixt harp and wild against the shade." Image: Mural of Harpers and druids stand back to back with the fallen armor of Dark Justiciars at their feet; Narrator reads: "The towers seized, the battle done / the moonrise broke the Darkest One."
It's possible that the Emerald Grove was the only circle that joined or was even asked to be in the battle, but perhaps the Enclave sent more. The Harpers needed an army, after all, and Jaheira says they numbered hundreds strong. Either way, the infamous Halsin Silverbough and his predecessor, the Archdruid in charge before him, are among the druids who join the army, though they never meet Jaheira in the battle.
Jaheira: The Archdruid Halsin. Do not be surprised that I know your name - you fit a rather singular description. And one survivor of the shadow curse's fall ought to know another. Halsin: We never actually got to meet, when fighting Ketheric that first time. Jaheira: No. We were a host hundreds strong, after all. Until we were not.
With the druids and Harpers finally aligned, they can at last march on Reithwin and begin their siege.
So let me pause for a moment to confess that the battle itself is...hard to track. Some characters (Halsin, Jaheira) and some accounts suggest that the battle only takes up about one day. The battle seems to either be contained to the banks of the Chionthar, or it spreads into the town to eventually reach Moonrise Towers. Other accounts, like the Harper's Testimonial, suggest the battle raged for three straight days outside of Moonrise alone before Ketheric descended personally into the field. Notes and letters from the House of Healing suggest the siege may have taken even longer, because supplies dwindled to dangerously low levels. Trying to reconcile all these accounts is tricky.
It's important to note that sieging a town doesn't always mean active fighting, it just means cutting off supplies and travel, keeping everyone out, or keeping everyone in, so it's possible the town was under siege for much longer than the battle that was actually fought. So the following is my best interpretation for the events, in an order that makes semi-logical sense to me. Some of this is complete conjecture. But feel free to come up with your own timelines!
Shadow Vestige: You sense a faded memory of marching in an army against Ketheric Thorm. Victory seemed possible back then.
The plan is to lay siege to Reithwin Town and force Ketheric to surrender. Failing that, siege the town until the army is too weak from hunger to fight well, then push forward into Moonrise Towers and kill Ketheric.
Part of the Chionthar divides Reithwin from the rest of the village outskirts (as you can see on the map), making three bridges the only access into town if you're approaching from the east as the Harpers and druids would have done (unless, of course, you want to get wet or you can fly). On one side of the river is the town proper. On the other, Last Light Inn and several farms.
If the Harpers barricade the bridges, or the Justiciars build barricades to keep them out, then Reithwin is cut off from everything on the east side of the river. Cut off the farms, and Reithwin loses food. Cut off travel and trade from the east, and Reithwin is forced to look to the west for supplies...but Baldur's Gate is to the west, and Grand Duke Eltan is already suspicious. He will not be a friend to Ketheric Thorm. Reithwin is essentially (if not literally) boxed in.
It's a good siege plan...in theory, anyway. And if the Harpers lay siege while waiting for their army to grow, waiting for the druids to join them, etc., then it helps them in two ways. It starves out and weakens the enemy and gives them time to increase their own strength.
For a while, the seige seems to be working.
Whether it was the Harpers or the Justiciars who built the barricades and pickets along the bridge, Reithwin is now officially under siege, and trade and supplies start to trickle nearly to a stop. The number of travelers through the tollhouse drastically dwindles, until eventually it seems to be cut off entirely. Reithwin begins to suffer food shortages, enough that the veterinarian in town is forced to butcher some of the stable's horses to provide food. And it's not just horses, judging by the evidence we find elsewhere in town, like the missing pets posters and the pile of bloodied cat and dog collars outside of the tollhouse.
(Ugh I hate it so much. But the Harpers are determined to win. And yes, while some of the food shortage stuff could have been Ketheric failing at governing his town appropriately, a siege makes more sense to me.)
At some point (days? weeks?) Ketheric likely says enough is enough. The battle must begin or he will lose his town and his army to starvation, especially with winter quickly approaching. Alternatively, the Harpers themselves grow tired of waiting. They see that their siege is doing little to sway Ketheric and decide that the only thing left to do is attack.
Either way, the battle will begin on the morrow.
On the eve of the first day of the battle, many Harpers and druids bunk at Last Light Inn, likely including Jaheira and Halsin (who both remember the inn as it was before the shadow curse). Art Cullagh is also staying there. Whether he has already visited the House of Healing and lost his lute there is uncertain, though I think it's likely. Perhaps he visited before Reithwin was sieged, or visited during the siege but before the fighting started. Perhaps he is there in the inn when the Harpers toast one another the night before the battle. The Harpers no doubt expect a hard-fought but certain victory. I can only wonder what Art must have thought, watching them, if he was there that same night.
Shadow Vestige: You glimpse a young Harper on the eve of battle against Thorm, long ago. He and his comrades toast each other in Last Light.
The next day, the battle begins.
Ketheric is a remarkable general who understands how to rouse his soldiers. Minthara describes him, even a century later, as "everything a general should be - a charismatic leader with a brilliant strategic mind." He knows his soldiers and those who would volunteer to join his army are going hungry and are fearful of what the winter might bring to their seiged town. Whether they are Dark Justiciars or not, they're mortal. More mortal than he is. So he gathers them together to bolster their morale before the battle.
[A record of Ketheric Thorm's speech to his troops before his victory over the druids and Harpers.] Take this. You there, take this from me. That is gold, friends. Let those who are coveters and cravens among you take my gold and go. There's enough to keep you warm in winter. But in those cold and lonely winters to come, you will look into the bought flames in the purchased hearth and see a bargained-for peace, and then you'll realise that such a retirement comes at the price of pride. Go on and take it. Take it and go. Those who are not afraid and me? We won't stop you. But neither shall we know a winter in which the coin of regret is idly spent. Instead we shall know blood, and fury, and a triumph worthy of a flame reconcileable only with heaven, I swear it! Against us arrayed is a group of fools - let them be our bank vault! Let us raid them, friends! Let us grow rich on screams!
The Harper Testimonial suggests that Ketheric himself did not enter the battle until day three. I can imagine Ketheric giving such a speech and then watching from the towers (a good vantage point to view the battle below) as his Dark Justiciar army descends on hundreds of Harpers and druids, knowing that victory is well in hand. His Justiciars have trained hard and ritually killed a celestial being, after all. They are an elite force.
~1~ A Harper's Testimonial: The Last Stand of Ketheric Thorm, Chosen of Shar. [The pursuant text describes a battle between Ketheric Thorm's faithful and magical Harper forces.] I do not know what magic the Dark Justiciars summoned to our plane. But if it came from the Weave, then let it be cursed for eternity. For three days, we sieged the Towers. For three days, their darkbolts cleaved our ranks. And on the third day, as his men and woman at last began to fall, Ketheric entered battle.
(The Harper might be conflating the Towers with Reithwin itself, or perhaps I'm wrong about this theory and the Harper is only talking about a secondary battle that happened right outside the Towers. Either way, putting it here because the information is extremely relevant, but here's your warning that there's plenty of conjecture ahead!)
The Harpers and druids clash with the Justiciars on the east banks of the Chionthar, slaughtering each other around ballistae, barricades, and battering rams, trying to push forward across the bridges and docks that connect the tollhouse with the village outskirts. This is no mere skirmish. The ground is slick with blood as Dark Justiciars fight to keep the Harpers and druids from advancing forward into town and reaching Moonrise. Dead and wounded soon begin to litter the ground. The battle is so brutal that vestiges of it remain even a century later, identifiable at a glance.
Character comments regarding the centuries-old remains of the battle around the main bridge into the tollhouse. Astarion: This battlefield must've ran slick with blood - I can taste it in the air, even after so long. Lae'zel: There was a great battle here. The ground stained red with blood long dried. Gale: The site of no ordinary skirmish. This was once a battlefield, and a bloody one, too, judging by the number of bodies. Shadowheart: These aren't the remains of some skirmish - whole armies clashed here once. Wyll: A great battle was fought here - I can practically hear the din of blade against blade, axe against shield. Karlach: This is a battlefield. An old one, but still. Jaheira: Forces from the Emerald Grove. Many stood against Ketheric - only we lucky few survived him. Halsin: A great many druids once stood here to fight Ketheric Thorm. Few ever left. Minthara: Remains of those who stood against Ketheric in the past.
Dark Justiciars rain down darkbolts on the Harpers and druids, bolts of pure darkness that deal moderate damage and can daze the victim. Healers among the Harper and druid ranks begin to get overwhelmed by the amount of wounded. Many of the dead are left abandoned on the field, the fighting too intense to stop and take them away for burial. Most are never recovered.
As the battle rages on for one day, two days, three days, things are growing dire for the citizens inside the town, some of whom are cowering as the battle gets closer and closer, spilling out onto the streets of Reithwin and surging toward Moonrise Towers. The House of Healing is trying to tend to the wounded and the sick, operating as both a regular clinic and a war hospital. Because the siege (and now the battle) has stopped all supplies from entering the town, their potions and tonics are running dangerously low. Additionally, though the House of Healing should technically be offering aid to any wounded person, no matter their faith or creed, Ketheric issues an order that all SelĂťnites or Harpers must be turned away and that all healing items must be focused on Dark Justiciars aloneâan order that his surgeon uncle, Malus, strictly enforces.
[This exhaustive log lists each and every patient to have sought healing in Reithwin, along with their ailments. The minor injuries and common diseases of the early pages give way to critical wounds and deep lacerations - the repercussions of battle. Several unbound scrolls have been slid among the final pages, demanding that healers turn away wounded Harpers and SelĂťnites, and reserve their tonics for wounded Dark Justiciars - on the orders of General Ketheric Thorm.]
(If Art Cullagh hasn't visited the House of Healing already, he likely can't now.)
The House is still operating as a clinic, accepting patients who come in with ailments or injuries, but they're ordered to essentially ignore them. Malus even forbids the use of sleep aids and anesthetics to ease the pain or passing of the elderly and mortally wounded. Soon they begin turning away even Sharran citizen patients, or leaving them untreated, like the husband of one Cleric of Shar who comes to the House of Healing to be treated for an unknown malady. The husband never realizes that he is suffering the damage that his wife should be getting as she takes on "whole troops" of Harpers single-handedly and walks away without a scratch. He dies, forgotten, either a victim of the shadow curse or of his wife's warding bond.
Things grow so dire that at least one nurse, Sister Anna Lidwin, pens a note to the Chief Chirurgeon (surgeon) of Harbourside Hospital (which is itself kinda sketchy) requesting aid. Potions, herbs, clerics, anything that can help.
To: Chief Chirurgeon, Harbourside Hospital, Baldur's Gate From: Sister Anna Lidwin, Darkcloak, Reithwin House of Healing URGENT! Dear Sir or Madam, We have reached dire times in Reithwin. War has come. Do you not teach that it is our duty to mend all who break, comfort all who ail, without regard for the gods they worship or the champions they heed? Yet our surgeon Malus Thorm abides by his own creed. 'The will of Shar', he might say, and I dare not argue with him - or any Thorm. He allows supplies to dwindle, leaves some patients' injuries to fester so he may 'study', and commands me to nurse only Dark Justiciars that seek treatment. I beg you, Sir or Madam - please deliver us aid, so I might close every tear and cleanse every wound, even those of Harpers and SelĂťnites. We will humbly accept all you can offer: potions, herbs, sutures, even clerics. Help us to heal. With gratitude, Anna Lidwin
The letter is never sent. It lies abandoned in the House of Healing even a century later. Perhaps she wrote it on the final day of battle and was caught by the shadow curse as she was trying to tend to the wounded.
For the Harpers and druids, the battle has taken a turn for the worse. Ketheric's Dark Justiciars seem overwhelmingly powerful and the damage this battle is doing is only increasing, especially as it spills into town. Eventually, the Harpers weigh the cost of victory and elect to surrender. They get Khelben Arunsun, the Blackstaff himself, to write the surrender letter (whether he was physically there at the battle or not is uncertain).
Ketheric denies the surrender.
General Ketheric Thorm: It is with heavy heart that I must announce the surrender of the Harper forces and its allies to your Dark Justiciar army, under unanimous agreement. 'Harpers work against villainy and wickedness wherever they find itâŚ' So states our code, and so here have we acted. But I also know, all too well, how the statement continues: '⌠but they work ever mindful of the consequences of what they do.' We cannot be party to the suffering of the people of Reithwin, and indeed, of the great loss of life that this war will visit upon the Sword Coast - and, perhaps, beyond it. So it is written, and so let it be done, Khelben Arunsun, on behalf of the High Harper Council and its allies. [Two words are slashed across the bottom of the scroll:] SURRENDER DECLINED
Ketheric rejects the surrender and clamps it in the jaws of some poor dead soul whose head or skull is then set on a pike at the battlefield (knowing him, it was probably the messenger who brought the surrender letter). The Harpers and druids keep fighting. They have no other choice. It's fight or be slaughtered.
It's the third day. Something has shifted in the ranks. Dark Justiciars are falling in battle, and for once, reinforcements aren't coming. Unbeknownst to the Harpers and druids, an infernal force is destroying Justiciars in Grymforge and in the Gauntlet of Shar. The Harpers and druids at last have a fighting chance.
And that's when Ketheric joins the battle.
The details of this part of the battle are lost to time. We know from Minthara that Ketheric is absolutely fearless in battle. She describes him as a man who leads his troops from the front and cuts through the enemy âlike a scythe through stalks.â I suspect that even back then, when the blows and arrows rain down on him as they do when Minthara fights with him a century later, he does not readily fall or falter. With immortality practically guaranteed, he likely butchers more Harpers and druids than they dared imagine possible for one man. The hundreds that made up the original army of Harpers and druids have been winnowed and cut down until only, as Jaheira says, a lucky few remain. The dead number so high for Halsin that he says it would take him a day and night recite all the names of the friends he lost in this battle.
But eventually, somehow, the Harpers and druids at last defeat Ketheric and eliminate all the remaining Justiciars that are still fighting topside. Ketheric suffers a seemingly mortal wound and falls. He utters a "final curse" as he dies and then withers, according to one Harper at least. The effects of this spoken curse are not immediately apparent. For now, the Harpers and druids feel they have won a victory at last, but the curse, whatever it is meant to be, clearly spooks them. Perhaps they think that by sealing Ketheric in the mausoleum, they can avoid the effects of his last dying words.
The Harpers drag Ketheric's corpse from the battlefield and leave him in a tomb in the mausoleum. Jaheira (and possibly Halsin) personally helps other Harpers and Druids seal the mausoleum doors using arcane sigils.
Player: If he's back, perhaps you should have hit him harder in the first place. Jaheira: Believe me - he was well and truly dead. I locked his corpse in the Thorm mausoleum myself.
Halsin: These sigils...druids and Harpers alike tried to seal away Ketheric Thorm in his foul tomb. To no avail.
The remaining Harpers and druids think that this final act of sealing Ketheric away signals a hard-won victory. Jaheira and the other Harpers turn to the task of removing bodies from the battlefield to bury them at Last Light. Halsin and the other druids likely also focus on tending to their dead and wounded, while the surviving citizens of Reithwin breathe unsteady sighs of relief or resignation...until the late autumn air suddenly takes on a midwinter chill.
The shadow curse is only just beginning.

Calculated Risks
Pairing: Soldier Boy/Ben x F. Reader
Summary: You and Ben argue about your commitment to being a working mom. When a rogue supe gets loose at Supe Affairs, mayhem ensues, putting not only your life at risk, but your daughterâs as well.
AN: Welcome back to the BMD-verse, friends! Did you miss these two as much as I did? Plus, get ready for a heavy dose of fan-favorite Frank. (And Lila, of course!)
Word Count: 7K
Tags/Warnings: Familiar bickering, a mission gone awry, angst, hurt/comfort, fluff.
Catch up on the BMD-verse. ⤾ď¸
đ Break Me Down Masterlist
In four years of marriage, one thing that had never changed between you and Ben was this.
âAll right, youâre being a little too much right now,â you said in irritation. âOf course Iâm not sitting this one out. Iâm the one who found us the damn lead in the first place.â
The man was following you from the adjoining bathroom and back into your shared bedroom, where you began getting dressed for work in the blouse and pencil skirt youâd laid out for yourself.
Your husband had already donned his supe suit, sans helmet. He stood just behind you with his arms crossed, a familiar surly frown on his face. When you turned around, he hadnât moved an inch.
âIâm being too much? Youâre the one whoâs not being fucking reasonable,â he said.
You rolled your eyes and moved past him to find your shoes. For this skirt, you really needed heels. Your most comfortable black pumps would do. You grabbed the closet doorknob for balance as you slipped them on, giving him a look of exasperation.
Ben held firm on his stance, but inside, he had a feeling youâd chosen this outfit on purpose. You knew he liked this whole sexcretary look on you, with your hair let down around your shoulders. The skirt and heels just brought his eyes to the delectable curve of your ass.
But again, he was holding firm.
Heâd been called in on this case partly because Annie was on maternity leave. She was due in just a few weeks. Which meant âSoldier Boyâ was definitely needed to help out Butcher and his merry band of assholes. By now, Ben had gotten used to them. Â
âLook,â you said, âSlingshot has been causing a lot of havoc, and the police havenât been able to catch him. You heard Grace. This is an âall hands on deckâ situation.â
âShe always says that shit. Doesnât make it true,â Ben retorted.
âThis time it is,â you said. âIâve already put in tons of man hours on surveillance for this guy. I want to get him off the street.â
Ben held you by your arms. âThatâs exactly my point. Youâve been putting in way too many hours.â
You shook your head. He just didnât get it.
âIf I hadnât, we wouldnât have this opening now,â you said. You gave him a smile to try and lighten him. âNow heâs all teed up for you and the guys. This should be in and out. Practically a milk run for you.â
âYeah, but not for you,â he pointed out. âAnd not for Lila. Youâre stretching yourself too damn thin. Itâs not like we need the money.â
Ahh, now we get to it, you thought. Yet again, he was bringing this up. In his mind, you shouldâve cut your hours at Supe Affairs after Lila was born.
You did take an extended maternity leave of an entire year and a half, which was much more than women usually got from their jobs. However, because of your relationship with Grace and the entire team, youâd been allowed to come back whenever you felt ready.Â
Ben had often felt it necessary to point out that with his money, you didnât have to work at all.Â
He knew very well that for you, this work was more than a job.Â
âIâm not the first working mom in existence, Ben,â you said, pushing out of his hold. âAnd Iâll remind you that Supe Affairs has a great daycare program. Lilaâs very happy there.â
Plus, she was almost three and a half years old. In less than a year, Lila would be off to preschool.
âAnd look, itâs not about the money,â you added. âI told you before Lila was born. I am a mother, and Iâm your wife. But Iâm still me.â
Ben processed that for a moment, meeting your gaze.
âThe situationâs changed,â he replied. He grasped your hips this time. His thumb gently brushed over your belly, which had a small bump under your high-waisted skirt.Â
You were finally pregnant again. Three months, in fact, and you were having a boy. You knew that Ben had several reasons to be more protective than usualâŚbut still. You thought you were already taking every precaution to keep you and your children safe, even with the occasionally extensive hours of your job.
âThese cases can be long and difficult, not to mention dangerous,â said Ben. His green eyes met yours as he looked down at you through furrowed brows. âYouâre putting yourself at risk.â
You blew out a breath and tried to placate him, soothing a hand over his chest.Â
âIâve stopped doing field missions,â you pointed out. âAnd Supe Affairs is the most secure building in the city. Do you think I would bring Lila there if it wasnât?â
The security team at the S.A. was bar none, not only because Loco was a part of that team. Frank was also your personal bodyguard; Ben hired him back when you found out you were pregnant with Lila.
In fact, Frank was coming to the house in a few minutes to pick you all up.
Ben frowned. âI think youâre being stubborn just to be fucking stubborn.â
That sparked at your temper. Again, you withdrew from his arms and crossed yours.
âI think you need to face the fact that Iâm protected as well as I can be,â you said. âI also think that youâre trying to use this as a way to shoehorn me into some antiquated idea of what you still think a wife should be. Iâm gonna tell you right now. Thatâs not me! Itâs never been me. And you know that.â
He opened his mouth to give an angry retort, but you beat him to it.
âItâs like you donât even care about what I want,â you snapped. âJust what you think is rightâfor me to be here waiting for you to come home, quite literally barefoot and pregnant, ready to rub your balls!â
ClichĂŠ as it mightâve been to say, if the shoe fit, then you were certainly not going to be the one to wear it.
âYou know what, you can accuse me of being stuck in the fucking past all you want,â Ben said, raising a finger, as well as his voice. âBut the problem here isnât me. Itâs that what you want is goddamn idiotic!â
Your mouth fell agape. âExcuse me?! I canât even believe you right now!â
Ben fairly loomed above you when he shouted back.
âWell, that makes fucking two of us!â
His voice was loud enough to reverberate on the walls. You even flinched, but you held your ground with a glareâŚ
Until you heard a whimper.
You and Ben paused, and turned to find Lila. The three-year-old was cowering a bit in the doorway to your bedroom. Her eyes welled up with tears, and she began to cry.
Your heart broke.
âOh, honey,â you breathed. You were both apologetic and mortified as you quickly went to her.
Ben was close behind you, but while Lila was quick to melt into your arms when you picked her up, she shied away from his attempt to reach out to her. What wouldâve been a placating hand on her head, turned into him pausing in surprise when she ducked.
âLila?â he prodded.
He tried to mask how put out he was by his daughter hiding her face from him, burrowing into your neck instead. She was usually a daddyâs girl, through and through.
You shot him a knowing frown, while rubbing her back in comfort.
âItâs okay, baby,â you told her. âYour dad and I were justâŚtalking. He didnât mean to shout.â
When Lila only whimpered in response, Benâs gaze dimmed in understanding. His lips pursed.
You saw that look on his face, and you wanted to sigh. Part of you felt bad for him, at the way Lila had flinched away from her father. In a way though, maybe it was a lesson he needed to learn.
Frank arrived a few minutes later in a black SUV, like he did every weekday morning to bring you all to work. Ben was quiet and taciturn climbing into the backseat on one side, and you clipped Lila into her car seat from the other side. He still made sure that she was strapped in correctly, and even tried to earn his daughterâs gaze.
She snuck a glance at him a couple of times, but quickly lowered it to play with one of her favorite stuffed animal toys (a little German shepherd that he had gotten for her).
Ben let out a long breath through his nose. He gave Frank a nod through the rearview mirror, and the other man peeled away from the house.
The four of you rode in silence away from your house in Scarsdale, towards New York City.
Benâs mood remained grim, even when you all got to Supe Affairs. Frank held back while you and Ben stopped in the hallway with Lila. You were carrying her, and she was holding onto you and her stuffed animal like a lifeline instead of looking anywhere elseânamely at Ben.
You sighed and tried to pull her back enough to see her face.
âDaddyâs gotta go to work now. Want to say goodbye?â you encouraged.
All Lila could manage was a shy look in his direction. Ben laid a gentle hand on her head, over her dark hair.
âBye, sweetheart,â he said.
Lila didnât answer him. She just bit her lip and stayed withdrawn.
You and Ben shared a glance. He was hiding it well behind his usual stoicism, but this was hurting him. There wasnât much either of you could do about it now, however. You both had work to do, and the mission would have to come first.
âIâll be online in a bit,â you told him.Â
First, you needed to take Lila up to daycare before Frank accompanied you to your office. There youâd be able to join the mission from your computer and put your headset on. Aside from surveillance, you were their virtual eyes on missions.Â
So Ben tacitly agreed, and the two of you parted ways.
You went up to the second floor to drop Lila off at daycare, where you set her onto her feet. You could see that she was quiet and almost sad, not as bright and talkative as usual. And she was clinging to your hand. You bent down the best you could in your skirt, so you could meet her eyes.
âAre you still upset with your dad?â you asked.Â
After a moment, Lila replied, âDaddyâs loud.â
You couldnât help a rueful smile.Â
âYeah, he can be,â you nodded. âBut heâs gonna work on that, okay? He loves you very much.â
She finally smiled a little when you pressed a few sweet kisses to her cheeks. You felt a little better about leaving her with Sarah, the woman who ran the daycare center. She was kind, but well-organized, and good at her job of wrangling fifteen or so toddlers on a daily basis.
And she was hovering off to the side with a smile, waiting to shepherd Lila over to where the rest of the group were starting at the arts and crafts table.
âOkay, baby. I love you. Iâm just downstairs if you need me,â you said, caressing Lilaâs cheeks, brushing her hair away from her face.
She nodded and waved goodbye. Sarah then stepped in and guided the girl over to the crafts table. The other kids were already drawing and coloring with crayons and markers.
With a sigh, you knew you had to get to work. You joined Frank out in the hall.
âDid something happen this morning?â he asked. You gave him a weary look.
âSomething always happens. Iâll fill you in when we hit the elevator,â you said.
âKids are resilient. Sheâll bounce back,â said Frank, when you two got off the elevator down to the basement, under the first floor. This was where the âheavy stuffâ happened at the S.A.
âThatâs not the point, Frank. He hasnât snapped at me like that in a long time, and he really scared her. Thatâs not fucking okay,â you said. âHe needs to learn to control his goddamn temper.â
He sent you a knowing glance. You rolled your eyes.
âOkay, I know I donât always help. But in this case, I was justified,â you said. âBen was being an ass.â
âRight,â Frank nodded. âItâs not at all that heâs worried about you.â
You narrowed your eyes at him. âWhose side are you on?â
The man remained silent, but his stoic face wasnât fooling you. Heâd been your friend for much too long, and he knew Ben just as wellâŚwhich was why you found yourself reconsidering what happened this morning.
âYou really think he has a point?â you asked. âAm I working too much?â
Frank shook his head and opened the door for you into the Surveillance Department. The two of you ventured to your office, where your quadruple monitor setup was waiting for you. He also had a desk for himself, since he often spent the long hours of your day with you.
âWhen you were pregnant with Lila, you were on maternity leave by now,â he pointed out.
âBecause we had no idea what was going to happen,â you countered. You went to your desk and started up your computer. âI had to meet with Tonya once a week, ultrasounds and blood tests all the time, making sure Lila was healthy, that I was healthy. This time around, we have a better idea of what to expect.â
For example, you were experiencing bouts of super strength once again, but it was still intermittent. Although, you pretty much never needed coffee. Maybe the supe genes coursing through your system, thanks to your unborn son, was part of the reason why youâd been able to go such long hours for these cases.
He's already brightening up my life, you thought with a little smile, holding a hand over your lower belly.
âItâs your choice,â Frank said at last. âBut it is possible that Ben cares about more than just making you a suburban housewife.â
At that, you sighed. There was nothing wrong with being a housewife, you knew. It just wasnâtâŚyou.
Once your computer and monitors were booted up, you connected to the right channels and put on your headset.
Already you could hear M.M. bitching about keeping the weapons trunk organized, not just tossing things in haphazardly.Â
âItâs a simple fucking system, Frenchie. You can at least abide by it,â M.M. said. âWe donât have time to be scratching our asses while you try to find aââ
âHey, Bert and Ernie. Would you shut the fuck up already?â Ben groused.
Your mouth twitched at his grumpiness.
âA little testy this morning, ey guv?â Butcher remarked.
âGargle my ball sack,â Ben replied, with an even grouchier deadpan than usual.
âDo you kiss your child with that mouth?â Frenchie teased.Â
âNah, just your motherâs French hole,â Ben slung back. You rolled your eyes.Â
âAll right, all right. Put the measuring tapes away,â you interrupted. âIâm online, locked on your GPS.â
âWell, if it ainât Mrs. America herself,â Butcher drawled. âGot a lock on Slingshotâs location for us?âÂ
âYou know it,â you replied. âSending to the group chat now. Slingshotâs been spotted entering a strip club in Chinatown.âÂ
âJeez. A little early for tits and booze. Itâs 10:00 a.m. on a Tuesday,â said Hughie.
You heard Ben huff in amusement. âItâs never too early.â
You snorted at that.
âRight. Iâll remember that next time you fall asleep watching Family Feud,â you clipped back.
You heard the other guys trying not to laugh as they got into Butcherâs van. Part of you felt bad for teasing Ben, knowing he was already in a bad mood, but you were feeling a bit petty about what happened this morning.
You had to bite your lip against a smile, as you could picture the ill-tempered face your man was likely sporting.
And weâre off.
Lila wasnât having a good day.Â
She didnât feel like coloring, and the toys just werenât fun today.
She just didnât want to be here. The other kids smelled like old Cheetos and feet (especially the boys).
She missed you. And though she hadnât wanted to admit it to you, she missed Daddy too.
Lila wanted to go homeâŚshe wanted her mom.Â
âIâm just downstairs if you need me,â youâd said.
Lila had a kind of plan percolating in her mind, all through the morning, and even through lunch time. She didnât want to get in trouble, but when sheâd asked Miss Sarah if she could go see you, sheâd said you were at work and couldnât come get Lila until later.Â
But thatâs not what Mommy said, Lila thought. Â
After lunch, she laid on the napping mat with her pillow and blanket, even though she was wide awake. She didnât want to nap with the other kids, even though Miss Sarah told her it was time to sleep.Â
Again, Lila didnât want to be bad. She didnât want to get in trouble either, but she really, really just wanted to see you.
And youâd said it was okay to go downstairs if she needed you, right?
Lila closed her eyes while Miss Sarah was looking, but she waited until the teacher went into her office to answer a call. Then, Lila carefully put Charlie, her stuffed dog, against her pillow, tucking the blanket up to his neck.Â
She crawled off her mat and snuck over to the door while Miss Sarah was distracted on her phone. Lila reached up and was just tall enough to twist the doorknob. It led her out of the room, and out into the empty hall. She then looked both ways for a clue on where to go.Â
She heard a ding, and looked over at a nearby pair of elevators.
The mission went more or less according to plan. Slingshotâs abilities allowed him to stretch every part of his body like elastic. It not only made him hard to catch, but even harder to maim without collateral damage.Â
A whole block in Chinatown was wrecked in the takedown, but your idea of ripping the cables from a nearby utility pole to electrocute him let Ben finally subdue the elastic supe. Kimiko knocked him out, and Butcher slapped some tight-ass cuffs on him and dragged him into the van. They returned with the rogue supe in custody.Â
You were mentally exhausted from helping them track down routes to pin down Slingshot, but you were relieved to be done. You were also satisfied that another danger to society was neutralized, for now.
You took pride in your work, and you didnât think Ben saw that, or thought it was important. You supposed that was what upset you the most about that fight with him.
Sometimes, you wondered if he would ever truly change.
You grabbed your purse and made sure to slip in your gun and taser. You left your office and greeted Frank, who had just finished making his rounds in the building with Locoâs team. Frank joined you on the way to the elevator.
âI meant to ask you, howâs Alana doing?â you asked. Alana was his daughter, who was now in college.
âSheâs changed her major yet again,â he said wryly. âThis time to philosophy.â
âPhilosophy? Thatâs interesting. What does she want to do with that?â you asked.
âNo fucking clue,â he replied, hitting the button for the first floor. âI just hope she gets bored and picks something practical. LikeâŚteaching, or dentistry.â
You shot him a bemused look. âDentistry?â
âAs much money as I put into that girlâs braces, itâd be good for her to pay it forward,â Frank said, in a surly tone that reminded you of Ben. You had to laugh.
You and Frank exited the elevator and started down the hall.
You planned to touch base with Grace Mallory on the safety measures of Slingshotâs containment before he was put into custody. The idea was to house him in a prison cell that could actually hold him until he went through the legal process.Â
But youâd only gotten halfway down the hall before the supe in question literally stretched past you on unnaturally long legsâin a blur of his white and blue supe suit. Your eyes widened on a gasp as you watched him head toward the elevator youâd just come off of.Â
âFuckinâ hell, weâve got a runner!â Butcher shouted from down the hall. He along with Ben, M.M., Frenchie, Hughie, and Kimiko were rushing your way.Â
It all happened so fast.Â
You registered Frank shooting out a protective arm in front of you. You turned back to see the elevator doors had opened back up, and Slingshot rushed inside. He made eye contact with you.
Then his arms shot out like rubber bands. One of them knocked Frank into the far wall. You gasped and froze on reflex.Â
Ben shouted your name; he was running towards you, getting closer. You were able to meet his wide eyes for a brief moment. He reached out for you, but those stretching arms closed around you first. You gasped when they slung you backwards.
You cried out in shock when your back met a surprisingly solid chest.
Meanwhile, Ben barreled the rest of the way down the hall as the elevators closed just short of his angrily furrowed face.
The stretched arms holding you were tight around your torso, making your grit your teeth as you tried to pull away. They twisted you around so you could face your captor. Or so he could see you.
His natural height was around Butcherâsâdark hair, blue eyes, angular features. He gave you what was probably meant to be a suave smile as those baby blues dragged down your body.
âHey, baby. Nice heels,â he said. You rolled your eyes.
âSo thatâs why they call you Slingshot,â you said, still a bit breathless. The elevator started to move. Heâd chosen the top floor. âWhere do you think youâre gonna go?â
âIsnât it obvious?â he snarked. âAnywhere but here. And youâre gonna help me.â
âHow? Being a human shield?â
âFor a start,â he smirked down at you. He backed up a step just to take another proper look at you, and he whistled lowly. He took your chin between his sweaty fingers, making you grimace when he stroked your cheek.Â
âDown boy,â you said warily. âTrust me, you really donât want to do this.â
This jackass hadnât even realized you had a small, but noticeable baby bump.
âWhy not, babe?â he grinned. âYouâve got the whole sexy librarian thing going on.âÂ
You heard a loud creaking sound outside the elevator doors. The compartment itself came to an abrupt stop, making the lights flicker.Â
âWhat the fuck?â Slingshot muttered. His hold around you loosened.Â
You had an idea of what just happened, with grim satisfaction. You also took advantage of his distraction and managed to slip a hand into your purse.
You pulled out your taser. Slingshot noticed and tried to grab you again, but the elevator somehow started to move in reverse, about a foot a time. It made both of you lose your balance and utter sounds of surprise. Â
As soon as you regained your footing, you aimed the taser at the most sensitive place you could think ofâthe supeâs dick and balls.
His howls of pain were loud enough to reach Ben, Frank, and the rest of the team on the third floor. Benâs face became edged with a smirk.Â
He kept pulling the elevator cables down until the compartmentâs doors were in reach. There he grabbed the doors and pulled them open with his bare hands, crunching metal under his fingers. The moment he saw you, the relief in your eyes, he grabbed your hand and pulled you out, into his arms.Â
Slingshot was angry, though he managed to recover, rip off the taserâs metal prongs and wires, and evade Kimiko, M.M., and even Butcher when he slithered his way out of the elevator and around their guns. The bullets ricocheted off the walls, and off his body as they followed him down the hall.
Ben focused on you. He brushed his half-gloved hands over your shoulders and sides while he quickly looked you over. There was worry in his eyes, disguised as anger. You caught your breath and held a protective hand over your lower belly out of reflex.Â
âYou okay?â he said, but you were already nodding before he asked.
âIâm fine,â you replied. âJust get him. Iâll get Lila.âÂ
Ben nodded. He shot one last firm look at Frank, who was back at your side. Frank laid a hand on your shoulder as Ben took off down the hall to find Slingshot.Â
âThe stairs are safer at this point,â Frank said.Â
âI would have to agree,â you said, steeling yourself with a breath.Â
While you and Frank went downstairs to the second floor, you didnât see the second elevator ding, its doors opening to your daughter, who ambled out alone. She looked one way down the hall, but hearing her fatherâs voice carrying down the opposite way, she started venturing in that direction.
If she couldnât find you, then sheâd find her dad.Â
âWhat the hell do you mean you lost her?â you shouted at Sarah, the woman who was supposed to be looking after your daughter. âHow do you lose a three-year-old at nap time? What kind of incompetent fuck are you?â
Yes, Ben had unfortunately rubbed off on you.Â
Sarah was in tears by the time you were not even halfway done, but Frank calmed you down with another touch to your shoulder. You had tears of panic stinging in your eyes when you met his gaze, your mouth trembling.
âI just radioed in and put Loco and the rest of the security team on looking for Lila. She canât have gotten far,â he said.Â
âCome on! Keep up with me, old man,â Slingshot taunted at Ben. His super flexibility allowed him to keep several steps ahead, dodging any attempts to grab him and any weapons fired with easy dips and playful deflection.Â
âWhen I get my hands on you, you flaccid fuck, you wonât know your ass from your ball sack,â Ben growled.Â
But he crashed into the wall when he took a corner too hard trying to tackle the other supe. He picked himself up from the debris of crumbled wall and plaster, ignoring Kimikoâs offer of a helping hand.Â
âBig fucking talk from the walking AARP commercial,â Slingshot snorted. He turned around and once again prepared to run. âTry not to shatter a hip, asshole!â
He took off down another bend in the hallway. Meanwhile, Ben shook himself off and joined the others in running after this cocksucker. Ben looked over at Butcher.
âWhatâs your fucking plan?â he grated out.Â
Butcher seemed to have an idea growing in his mind. âWhatâd she do to him in that elevator?â
âTased his dick, by the sound of it,â Ben replied. He knew what weapons you kept in your purse, and that you'd know better than to fire a gun in an enclosed elevator. Butcher snapped his fingers.
âElectricity. Bloody brilliant,â he said. He pointed at Hughie and grabbed Frenchie by the collar. âYou, with me. Iâve got an idea. The rest of ya, get him pinned down.â
âEasier said than done, motherfucker,â M.M. grumbled. But he followed Ben and Kimiko to find their errant supe.Â
Slingshot played a cocky game, but inside, there was fear.Â
Theyâd caught him once, and now, this building was crawling with security, let alone the assholes chasing him.
He was panting for breath when he nearly ran straight intoâŚa kid?Â
She was wandering around, trying to open a locked door. He skidded to a stop in front of her, and she looked up at him wide-eyed. He tilted his head. She was a cute little thing with brown hair and green eyes. She wore a blouse with cartoon ducks on it over her jeans and sunshine-yellow shoes.Â
âHey, cutie. Where you going?â asked Slingshot. âAre you lost?â
âLooking for my mom,â she answered, a bit timidly. The supe gave her an easy smile; inside, he knew heâd just found his collateral, and his ticket out of here.Â
âOkay. Whatâs your name?â he asked.Â
âLâŚLila,â she said.Â
âPretty name for a pretty girl,â he said, with all due charm. He struck a pose, with his fists held up to his waist. âI can help you, Lila. Iâm a superhero.â
Her eyes widened. âReally? Like Daddy?â
âOh, yeah. Your dad and I are friends.â Never mind that he had no fucking clue who her daddy was. He offered her his hand.Â
Now, Lila knew not to talk to strangers, but if he knew her dadâŚÂ
After a moment of reluctant indecision, she took his hand. Slingshot tapered a smirk into a more friendly smile.Â
âLetâs go find him.â Â
Ben was ahead of the pack, but he soon came to an abrupt stop with wider eyes. He finally found Slingshot, except he had Benâs daughter by the hand. Slingshot wore a cocky grin as he took the child up into his arms.Â
âHey, guys. Whoâs this little peanut belong to?â he asked. âSaid she was looking for her daddy.âÂ
Benâs breath turned to lead in his lungs. Lilaâs eyes lit up with recognition when she saw him.Â
âDaddy!â
Benâs softer gaze shifted from her, hardening once it reached the other supe.Â
âLet her go,â he growled lowly.Â
Slingshotâs grin deepened incredulously as he laughed.
âOh shit, sheâs yours?â he exclaimed. âThisâs just too fucking perfect.â
âLila!â your shout came from behind Ben, and you stepped around M.M. and Kimiko.
Ben held out a hand to keep you at bay. He kept his eyes on Slingshot, but Ben heard your gasp. His stomach dipped, knowing your worry had to be reaching new heights as you took in the situation.
âBen,â you uttered.Â
âIâve got this,â he said to you.
âYou donât got shit, old man,â Slingshot snapped. He shot you a smirk next. âSheâs your bitch? Figures.â
âJust let her go,â you implored. You had tears brimming in your eyes. âWe can negotiate your release if you promise to be more responsible.â
Ben shot you a glance then. He didnât intend for this fucker to live, let alone walk the streets of New York again. But he supposed any bluff was worth it at this point.
Meanwhile, seeing the distress on her parentsâ faces made Lila begin to break down into tears. She whined, pushing against the supe holding her, wanting to be let go.Â
âItâs okay, sweetie,â Slingshot cooed. âYouâre just gonna take a little trip with me.â
âNo!â a ragged shout tore from your throat when he took a few backward steps down the hall.Â
Ben held you back from following him, all while he tensed with rage. M.M. and Kimiko were also poised to try and stop the supe. But Slingshot tightened his hold on Lila in warning.
âBack the fuck off,â he demanded. âOnce I get to JFK and get my ass on a plane, maybe, maybe you see your daughter agaââ
He had to stop short, as he sensed something just outside of his peripheral vision.
It was Butcher, coming at him to swing a baseball bat at the supeâs head.
You screamed in protest, but Butcher was relying on the supeâs reflexes to dodge the bat. He wasnât disappointed. Slingshot dodged. Though in his distraction, it gave Ben the opening he needed to step into his orbit and land a solid punch across Slingshotâs face.
It not only cracked his jaw, but also caught him off guard enough for his grip on the child to loosen. Ben grabbed his daughter and turned her away in a protective embrace.
Then Frenchie brought Slingshot down with the prongs of a massive taser clipping onto his nipples. He jolted and screamedâand went down hard on the tile floor.Â
While Hughie and M.M. ushered in the rest of the security team to swarm in and take the supe into custody, you raced forward to Ben and Lila in tears.
Lila was also crying and clinging to Benâs neck, shaking like a leaf.
âItâs okay, sweetheart. Iâve got you,â he said quietly, so only she could hear. Lila whimpered and burrowed tighter against his neck.
Tears streamed down your face, but you tried to breathe through it. You rubbed her back and checked her over, making sure she wasnât hurt.Â
For Ben, the force of his relief was pounding in his ears. He briefly closed his eyes as he held his daughter closer.Â
When he opened them again, he met your gaze. You couldnât speak. All you could do was grab onto his wrist for support. He gave that to you, wrapping his free arm around your waist and pulling you into his side.Â
âFrank,â he said. His voice was a sharp command. The other man was ready to carry out whatever Ben asked. He also looked relieved to see that Lila was all right.
âPull the car around,â said Ben. Frank nodded, and went to do just that.
Ben turned to watch in satisfaction when Frenchie and M.M. hauled up a still twitching Slingshot. Butcher slapped a pair of electroshock handcuffs on him that would keep him better contained this timeâcourtesy of the S.A. armory. He nodded over at Ben, and the latter returned the gesture.Â
You missed it all, as you were preoccupied with comforting your daughter.
âItâs okay, honey. Weâre going home,â you gently whispered to Lila, who was still hiding her face in Benâs neck. You shared a look with him, and he gave you a short nod. His hand moved to the small of your back, both protective and possessive as the three of you moved towards the garage exit.Â
There Frank waited with the car that would take your family home.
You watched Ben with the beginning of tears brimming in your eyes. You managed to hold them at bay while he set Lila down in her bed. Youâd just finished giving her a bath and helping her get into her pajamas after a quiet, somewhat tense dinner.Â
Lila still seemed upset in her unusually quiet mood, which you knew was understandable. Ben sat at her bedside and soothed a hand over her head, brushing her cheek with his thumb.Â
âYouâve had a crazy frigginâ day, huh?â he asked. Lila didnât want to look at him, but he encouraged it with gentle fingers brushing her chin, teasing the tip of her nose. She hinted at a smile and finally met his eyes. He smiled back at her, if more reserved. But his expression turned serious again.
âWhatâs wrong?â he asked. He could see it. She had been more or less fine throughout dinner, but now sheâd turned quiet and withdrawn again. She only got like that when she was upset about something.
Lila toyed with the ear of her stuffed animal, Charlie. Frank had retrieved it for her from the daycare.
âSorry I talked to strangers,â Lila mumbled.
You had to bite the inside of your lip so you wouldnât cry. You came over to sit on the other side of her bed. You sniffed and shook your head, but Ben beat you to what you wanted to say.Â
âYouâre not in trouble, all right? Weâre not mad,â he said.Â
Lilaâs lower lip wobbled. Ben sighed and picked her up, plopping her down in his lap. She hugged him as tight as she could and he held her back, warm and secure. Â
âYou know Iâm always gonna be there to keep you safe. You never have to worry or be afraid,â he said.Â
You carded your fingers through Lilaâs hair so she knew you were there too. Usually, the roles were reversed, where you were doing the comforting and Ben was the solid support. Right now though, you just didnât have the words. Not when guilt was eating you from the inside out.
Fortunately, your husband did have the words, after he heaved a sigh.Â
âI might raise my voice, sometimes, but uhâŚyou never have to be afraid of me either. Okay?â he said.
"Mhmm," Lila agreed.
You laid hand on Ben's arm, gently squeezing. He met your gaze, and knew what you were prodding with just that look in your eyes.
Briefly, he hesitated before he looked back down at his daughter.
"I'm sorry I scared you," he said.
Lila nodded against his chest. âIt's okay.â
âGood,â he said, laying a kiss on her forehead. âAll right, you ready to go to bed?â
She clung to him and made a sound of refusal.Â
You were finally able to crack a smile. You leaned down by her ear.Â
âYou want Daddy to read you a story first?â you asked.Â
Ben shot you a look at the way you volunteered him for that. He was tired and drained.Â
But one hopeful, shiny look from his daughter, and he folded like a deck of cards.
Later, when Lila was asleep, you tucked her in one last time and Ben turned out the light. He kept the door cracked open, just in case she called for either one of you tonight.
Then, somehow, you and Ben ended up in the kitchen instead of the bedroom. As exhausted as both of you were, you needed this moment to decompress, with one of your old favorite pastimesâŚ
He broke out the whiskey while you found an appropriate midnight snack, and then a seat with him at the breakfast bar. The two of you shared a companionable silence, as well as a large bag of sea salt and vinegar chips.Â
That was sort of how you felt inside.
âToday canât happen again,â Ben said, breaking the silence.Â
You looked over at him, but he was looking beyond you. Maybe so he didnât have to show you how deeply heâd been rattled. You knew him far too well for that.Â
âOf course not,â you replied. And you released a sigh. âSo hereâs what Iâm thinking. From now on Iâll work from home, so I can watch Lila until she goes to preschool.â
Ben got ready to argue, but you held up a hand. The other went to rest over your belly. You had scheduled an ultrasound with Dr. Tonya Baker tomorrow, just to make sure all was well after this ordeal.
âI already plan to take my maternity leave when this guy rolls into town,â you said with a smile. âThen, when Iâm ready, and if itâs feasible, I can continue to work from home until all the kids are in school.â
Benâs lips twitched humorlessly. He shouldâve known youâd continue making this a negotiation. He set down his glass, and he reached out to slide a hand over yours, across your belly. He took in a deep breath. But when he let it go, you sensed you still hadnât convinced him.
âListen, I know you donât want me to workââ you began.
âItâs not that,â he said. He made sure you looked him in the eyes when he said it. âItâs not.â
Despite yourself, you read the sincerity in his words. It had you pausing, waiting for him to continue.
âYou know damn wellâŚthat just being around me is dangerous,â he said. âTo you, and to Lila. But you being connected with Supe Affairs, working these missions, even from behind a desk, itâs a fucking risk. Itâll always be a risk.â
You considered that with new understanding. You took his hand with both of yours.
âBen, this life, this workâŚitâs the same for me as it is for you. Itâs all I know how to do. Itâs what Iâm wired for. So thatâs why itâs hard for me to turn down that dial,â you explained. âBut look, I understand what youâre saying. Believe me, I do. And todayâŚtoday wasâŚâ
Your breath hitched as tears stung in your eyes. Ben shook his head and tugged you closer.
âCome âere,â he said.
You left your chair to go to him. You stood between his long legs while he pulled you into a warm embrace. Logically, you knew that what happened today wasnât your fault. However, part of you still felt like a failure of a mother for underestimating the risks of having your daughter at the S.A. Â
You shouldâve known better, you berated yourself. And yet, it was Benâs words that stopped your train of thought.
âToday wasn't on you,â he said. "Get that thought outta your head."
He knew you well too, and this was one of those times. You wept harder against him, pressing your face into the crook of his neck. He held you, comforted you until you began to calm down.
âTake your maternity leave early,â he said. His deep voice was a rumble. âYouâre going to have your hands full with Lila when Iâm not here. Unless we hire someone to help you.â
It was an idea you could consider, but who could you trust? That was the question.Â
Maybe your mother? you thought. You knew she was thinking of retiring from her job in a couple of years anyway.
You sighed and slipped your fingers through Benâs hair. Your hand came to rest on the back of his neck as you leaned against him.
When Lila came into your lives, you had been so excited to start a family that you hadnât considered the non-physical side effects. Namely, the sacrifices you would have to make in order to keep your family safe.Â
Before you met Ben, your job was your life. But today reminded you that your daughterâŚand your unborn son, were more important to you than your job. No matter how important that job might be for the rest of the world.Â
âLetâs talk about this more tomorrow,â you said, shaking your head. âI canât think anymore.â
After a beat of hesitation, he agreed with a nod. Like so many battles before, whatever compromise you and Ben finally reached would be hard won. His hand found your cheek and caressed your skin.
âYou still try my fucking patience, you know that?â he muttered.
You smiled tiredly. âDid you really expect that to change?â
He scoffed. Even so, he guided you off his shoulder so that he could claim your lips. His kiss tasted like the burn of whiskey. You met his demanding lips in kind, though you were the first one to part from him slowly.Â
âI love you,â you whispered a reminder.Â
Ben nodded and pressed a kiss to your forehead. He lingered there for a moment, as if he could pause the world for a while.Â
He eventually let out a breath through his nose and allowed himself to be honest.
âI love you too,â he said.
With that shared understanding, he stood from his seat. He drained the last of his glass before he bent to gather you up into his arms. You yelped in surprise, clinging to his shoulders.
âTime for some rest,â Ben said. There was a certain smile on his face, gentler than usual.
He forged a path towards the bedroom. You sighed and laid your head against his chest.Â
For once, you didnât argue with him. Â

JourneyTober! Day 25 - Temple
The tension in the room could be cut with a knife. Jen and Monkey knelt on one side of the table. A cross from them, two young servants scrutinized them with barely disguised distain. Between the pairs was a spread of assorted foods and drinks, all untouched.
âThe last time we had a stinky monkey as a guest,â one spoke curtly, flashing his eyes towards Monkey. âHe ruined our Masterâs cherished Gensing Fruit tree.â
âWe only allow you to stay because Master Zhenyuan deems it prudent,â the other continued in an equally sour tone. âBut know that your presence is undesired in this temple.â
âWow, tell us how you really feel,â Jen snarked while Monkey bristled silently beside her. The boys turned their critical gazes towards her, all but sneering.
âYou shouldnât be here at all, foreigner.â
âTo think Master would allow an outsider into his home.â
A quiet growl rumbled between Monkeyâs clenched teeth. Jen was starting to worry he would lunge across the table and smack some manners into the mouthy children. While they might deserve it, she doubted their master would appreciate the violence.
âQingfeng. Mingyue. Thatâs enough,â a voice cut through the room, bringing an end to the youthsâ beratement. The immortal master appeared in the doorway. His long, white hair and beard with matching snowy robes gave him the appearance of a wise ghost. At his appearance, both servants fell into synchronized bows.
           âMaster Zhenyuan! We prepared teaââ
ââAnd served them food, as you requested.â
He hummed, strolling past them to take a seat the table. âVery good. Now go prepare rooms for our guests. They will need rest before they continue their journey.â
The servants bowed a final time and left the room, grumbling and shooting dirty looks to Monkey and Jen the whole way. Once they were gone, Master Zhenyuan let out a weary sigh, giving the two a sympathetic smile. âApologies for my disciples. They take their roles very seriously and still hold grudges from our last group of guests.â
âYeah, I canât imagine why they messed up your tree,â Jen muttered, crossing her arms. âWe were told to come here and Iâm sure it wasnât just for the oh-so-welcoming hospitality.â
âYes, I have been expecting you,â Master Zhenyuan started, calmly pouring tea for each of them before picking up his own cup. âMany of us immortals are aware of the journey for the relics to restore the Monkey King. And while I myself have chosen not to get involved, my old friend Subodhi has lent his support to your quest.â
Monkey perked up at the name, head tilting in surprise.
âWhoâs Subodhi?â Jen asked, glancing between the two for an answer.
Master Zhenyuan sipped his tea thoughtfully before speaking. âMaster Subodhi was Sun Wukongâs first master, the one who taught him many great skills and spells, most of which he later used to get into trouble. When his mischief became too great, Subodhi sent him away and swore him to secrecy of his tutelage. With Monkey Kingâs oath fulfilled and his renewal in the balance, Subodhi has sent aid on behalf of his former disciple.â
âThatâs great!â Jen gasped with relief. âSo, what did he send to help?â
Even Monkey nodded eagerly, leaning forward in anticipation. What they didnât expect was Zhenyuan to gracefully raise a hand and gesture back at them.
Jen looked around curiously but saw nothing. âUh, is it something we already have?â
âItâs you, dear child,â Zhenyuan answered, staring Jen down. âHow do you think you arrived here, a land so far from your own?â
âWell, I meanâŚâ Jen fidgeted under his gaze, hands clutching her cold tea. âI thought it was because I lit an incense in that little house?â
âThe shrine, yes,â the immortal nodded. âSubodhi scattered those shrines throughout your world, searching for a companion swayed by neither the Celestial Court nor the Buddhistsâ influence. Someone with no previous connection to the Monkey King or his legacy. A perfectly impartial witness to fate.â
Monkeyâs focus now turned to Jen as the information set in. He seemed just as baffled, mouth pulled in a frown and dark eyes searching her for answers.
âIâŚdonât know what you expect me to do,â she admitted quietly.
âThe Companion to the Destined One is expected to travel with him and act as guide.â Master Zhenyuanâs words sounded practiced; an explanation quoted countless times before. âWithout one, the other is doomed to fail. Only by working together, can all the relics be found and the journey truly succeed.â
Jen balked, panic starting to set in. âIâI donât know how to be a guide! I donât know anything about this place! I just found out whatâs going on and why Iâm here, how am I supposed to guide anyone?â
âAll in good time,â Zhenyuan spoke softly, offering comfort that fell on deaf ears. âNot all guides lead to physical places. You two will find your way as long as you continue to work together. Youâve made it his far already but thereâs still much ahead to overcome.â
âButâŚâ Jen swallowed thickly, blinking away the tears building in her eyes. âHow am I supposed to get home?â
Master Zhenyuan sighed. âThat I do not know. Perhaps by seeing this journey to its end, the way home will be revealed to you as well. But for now, Iâm sure you could use some rest.â
He looked to the doorway where the two servants had reappeared, both faces pinched in mirrored scowls. âQingfeng and Mingyue will show you to your rooms. Please, make yourselves comfortable and let them know if you need anything. We can speak more over dinner.â
Jen could only nod, following after the servants, mind still abuzz.
âThis will be your room, woman,â one of the boys said, pointing to the door on their left.
The other continued down the corridor, not even looking to see if he was being followed. âThe monkey will stay be staying down the hall. We ask that you remain in your chambers until summoned for dinner.â
As her friend turned to leave, Jenâs anxiety flared and her hands reached out to grab his arm. âMonkey, wait! IâŚâ But when he looked at her, the words faded away and she just felt silly and childish. âIâm sorry. I know you were expecting something else. I want to help, I really do, IâŚjust donât know how.â
Monkeyâs expression was carefully still, but his eyes held a mix of sympathy and disappointment. After a moment, he sighed, giving her shoulder a gentle pat before turning away. As Jen watched him go, she couldnât help feeling like she had already failed him.

Chapter 6
Gojo Satoru x reader
Wc: 2835
Curseless au
Summary: Amidst the zombie apocalypse, your courage shines as you not only saves lives but capture the heart of Gojo Satoru. Together with his first-year students, you all embark on a perilous journey, not only for survival but in a quest for a cure that adds a poignant layer to the unfolding romance.
<â Previous | Masterlist | Next â>
You packed as much as you could in your backpack, it was hard finding the balance between clothes and medical supplies; you never know what could happen.
Satoru somehow always finds a way to be near you, right now is no different. "Which ones should I bring?" He smiles happily, showing you two parts of socks, both having the most crazy and ugly patterns you've seen.
"Don't you think those are a little out of style, Satoru?" You raise an eyebrow at his sock choices.
"Yeah? Well I could say the same for you." He eyes what you're putting in your backpack.
"Are you suggesting we go to a mall? I hear they have great deals." You laugh, "buy one get the whole store for free."
Satoru laughs loudly, throwing his head back, his white hair going everywhere. You've started to find some of his hairs on your clothes now that you've been near him for a while. Each time you do, you return it rightfully back to him.
"C'mon, we should go get our weapons." You roll your eyes, but before you left you turned back to face him slightly, "and bring the pink ones." You point to his left hand.
He shakes his head, still chuckling to himself and throwing his backpack over one shoulder. Despite you guys planning on being gone for a few weeks, Satoru suggested everyone just bring one backpack, it was safer that way in case you all had to be running.
You meet up with Itadori who seems excited about switching out his brass knuckles for a gun. "Are you still going to use your bow?" He asks you.
"Probably not. I don't see how effective it would be, bullets are faster and quicker." You answer, your back feeling empty without your arrows.
"It would be quieter though. None of the guns here have silencers." He tells you. You only shrug, but still opt to use a gun.
It was still dark outside, with it being winter the sun arose later, that also meant it would be freezing outside. You zip up your third layer jacket, knowing you'd need it.
Shoko looks exhausted, she had a tendency to stay up late reading, last night was no different.
"Nobody's carrying you." Satoru points to her and she rolls her eyes.
"I'll be fine."
"You really should've gotten more rest. We aren't stopping until sundown." Nanami's deep voice echoing in the room. Shoko goes off into the kitchen, most likely to make some coffee for the go.
"Who's carrying the food?" You say, looking at everyone who's only carrying things in one backpack, knowing it'd be a lot of food to carry for everyone going.
"I have some granola bars and other small things, but if we want to eat, we'll need to hunt and cook it ourselves." Nanami says, "I suggest bringing your bow still, the guns scare the animals." You nod and make a mental note to grab if before leaving.
"Won't the fire we'd be cooking our food on bring attention?" Nobara asks.
"Not at night. Nobody in their right mind is out at night." Satoru answers for Nanami, wrapping a scarf around Megumi for warmth, knowing his face gets cold easily.
Everybody had chosen their guns, and were waiting at the basement door, you had quickly gone back and grabbed your bow and arrows.
"How're we gonna get let back in?" Itadori asks Maki.
"This door leads underground, We can get back in through there." She says, putting on her gloves, mentally preparing herself for the cold to hit her.
"Where is it," Megumi says, slightly muffled by his scarf.
"A little into the woods." Inumaki signs, he pauses before saying anything else, but ultimately signals he's done.
"Good enough for me." You smile and join back in, you had been practicing signing with Satoru and Inumaki while you were healing. You were getting a lot more comfortable. "Ready." You say.
Satoru leads the group, you falling somewhere in the middle to protect the younger ones, Nanami found himself in the back. It was a narrow hallway after the stairs.
You were a little claustrophobic, but this wasn't too bad, you still had a little room put your arms halfway out, but nobody could walk side by side down there.
It was cold already, your breath could be seen and you weren't even outside yet. You prayed to whoever was above that this would be a safe trip with no casualties.
Satoru signaled to stop as he opened up the door above, it took a little strength because it had been frozen, but that was no issue for him. He went up first and Megumi following after him.
After everyone was out, Nanami shut the door, making a mental note of where the door was when you'd all return. Everybody took out their flashlights, the sun was peeking on the horizon, but it'd still be awhile before you'd all be able to see.
You scoped the area around, making sure no zombies were close. Your gun was over your shoulder, but you had never shot one before. Nanami gave you the basic rundown.
The single file line that was underground had dismembered, you found yourself walking with the second-years, Nanami and Shoko leading the way and Satoru with his students.
You all kept conversations at a low volume, you were very tense. Every noise caused you to look in that direction despite nothing being there when you had looked prior.
At some point, Satoru and you had ended up behind the second and first years, time went by much faster after the sun came up, it was warming, but not enough.
"You scared?" Satoru asks.
"Not really." You answer, putting your flashlight away, calmer too now that you could see around you.
"That's good." He says, copying you and turning his flashlight off.
"I am starting to get hungry, though." You rub your stomach.
"Same here, you take a bite out of me and I'll take a bite out of you." He jokes, you roll your eyes at him and call him stupid. "I know Nanami said we would only stop to sleep, but he'd let us take a break after a while."
"Good, I know our legs will be needing it." You chuckle.
Nothing interesting had happened for the last 4 hours, occasionally you'd run into a zombie and Nanami would get rid of it then keep walking. The cold wasn't bothering anybody no more, who knew walking for hours would make you sweat.
"Let's go for another 4 hours and see how we feel." Nanami tells the entire group, Satoru extends his hand towards you to help you up and you gladly take it.
After the four hours the sun was setting, Nanami led the way to the first checkpoint to get settled into for the night.
You're unsure on how they found this place, but you're not complaining. It's in the middle of the woods, surrounded by trees which oddly makes you feel safe.
It was a little dusty inside, but everything was intact. The second years were tasked with setting up the beds and the first years did some light cleaning.
"You've got an hour or so of daylight to catch anything." Shoko tells you as she hands you a small map of the area.
"Any preferences?" You chuckle and wink at her, "You comin' Satoru?" You yell behind you.
You hear rushed footsteps and see the white haired boy, now wearing a beanie. "Aww, how cute." You pinch his cheek really hard making him frown.
"Can I shoot one?" Satoru asks as he opens the door for you both.
"Be safe." Nanami waves you two off.
"Absolutely not. You'll shoot me." You joke.
"How'd you know my plan?" He bumps into you. Your head shakes and you sigh at him. "Let's try this way." He points to your left and you both walk in that direction. "How're you feeling?"
"I feel alright, not too bad. And you?"
"Just cold." He shivers.
"You didn't have to come with me, I could've gotten Nanami or Shoko." You say, ducking under a tree branch.
"I'm offended." He says loudly and you hit him to remind him that he's scaring off the animals. "I'm better than any of them, so I figured you'd want the best."
"Cocky much?" You roll your eyes, "didn't I save the 'oh so strong one'."
"I wasn't armed." He side eyes you. "Plus I know you enjoy being around me."
"Mhm. And what gave you that idea?" You scrunch your nose.
"You're always near me."
"You follow me everywhere I go." You deadpan and he thinks for a moment, but ultimately changes the subject.
He extends his strong arm, making you huff as you run into it, he puts his finger to his lips, eyeing what's in front of him.
A fox was half behind a tree, it hadn't seen you both yet so you quickly crouch down and pull his tall self with you. Quietly you remove an arrow from your back, letting your bow fall slowly into your hands.
It was eating something it had killed, all of its attention was on it. You carefully draw your bow, slowly so it didn't make much noise, your aim was right at its head, wanting to make this quick and as painless as possible.
You let out a breath and released the arrow, the fox made a noise as it was hit and ultimately fell to the ground. Satoru was up before you were and ran as quickly as he could to finish it off.
He tied the foxes legs together to make it easier to carry. "Nice job." He praised. Then he pauses taking a good look at the fox. "What the fuck..." he whispers.
"What's wrong?" You ask worriedly.
"You hit it right in the eye." He says amazed. "You're incredible." His compliments gave you butterflies.
You took the arrow out of its eye and put it behind your back with the others. Satoru insisted on carrying the fox himself, you think he just wanted to show how strong he was. It was about 30 pounds, his guess.
Satoru tried to gloat about how he did all of the work, but nobody in their right mind believed him. Nanami was impressed, he was worried most of the animals would be dead from the zombies.
You watch from the window as Nanami chopped up some wood, you were just keeping a lookout for him in case anything happened, but Satoru had a sour look on his face.
He knew it was wrong. He quickly hid his very expressive face and stood alongside with you to see what was so interesting about Nanami.
"Oh good, now that you're keeping a lookout for him I'm gonna run to the bathroom real quick." You say and leave him.
Now he feels stupid for thinking you were just watching Nanami to see him in action. Nanami then dragged him out to help make the fire and skin the fox.
You've never had any sort of animal besides the basic ones, but fox wasn't too bad, it was bland.
"I'm still hungry." Itadori says.
"No, we have to save this." Nanami frowns.
"Please?" Itadori rubs his still growling stomach.
"I don't mind hunting, Nanami." You join in, feeling bad for Itadori.
"That's not the issue, I'm afraid that there won't be many animals left to hunt." He explains. "Go drink some water, Itadori. Fill your stomach."
Itadori sighs and does just that before getting ready for bed. Nanami kept the fire alive in the fireplace. Nobody could see smoke in the dark and especially not this far into the woods. You still suggested that somebody keep watch and he agreed.
You offered to do first watch, so you sat in the living room couch, feeling the warmth of the fire. Shoko handed you a book to read, but you had gotten some word puzzles to work on instead.
Just as you thought everyone had gone to bed, Satoru startles you as he walks into the living room with a blanket and pillow.
"What're you doing?" You frown.
"I wanted to keep you company." He smiles widely, setting his pillow up against you and lying down with his blanket, his long legs were stretched across.
"At least get some sleep." You shake your head and return to your puzzle. He mumbles something and you notice his eyes are closed. He's so exhausted, he barely sleeps every night and it catches up to him.
You hear his soft breathing, thankful that he doesn't snore like 90% of the male population. You feel yourself nodding off every once in a while, but you keep yourself busy.
Satoru had shifted in his sleep, but you paid no mind to it. Suddenly he opens his eyes and jolts awake, you're scared as he hyperventilates. You quickly make him face you and you softly tell him to breathe.
His eyes were filled with fear, this was new to you. After a few minutes he had calmed down, slumping himself onto you.
"Do you want some water?" You ask him and he silently nods. You quickly come back and hand it to him, he takes slow sips as he's still calming himself down. "Is..everything alright, Satoru?"
He nods his head, not making eye contact with you. "Yeah. Just a dream." He whispers, rubbing his eyes and feeling his cold sweat go away.
"Do you wanna talk about it?" You ask him and he immediately denies. You frown, he made you talk to him when something was wrong with you, now you are determined to get him to do the same. "What happened? Talking about it makes you feel better." You urge him.
He denies again. This time moving his head to face the wall. You take hold of his chin softly and turn him to face you, "This is my question." You demand and he shuts his eyes momentarily before talking.
"I had a bad dream." He says, almost embarrassed.
"What happened in it?" You urge him more and he shakes his head, "you can't back out of this." You say. "You made me tell you and now I expect the same."
"We all got split up and some of the students turned because of me." He says, his voice trembling a little, he told himself he was not going to cry and he was standing by it.
"That's really scary, I'm sorry Satoru. It was just a dream, nothing bad will happen to any of us." You promise. "It's okay to be upset."
"Ive been having these nightmares for a while." He admits. "Since day one of all of this."
"How often?"
"Everyday." He says. "Wellânot since we've had you join us, it stopped for a little."
You nod, thinking about your next words. "I get nightmares too, it's normal. But I believe one day we'll never have them again, all of this will go back to as normal as it can get."
"That's starting to feel like this is now our new normal." He sighs.
"I know." You sink into the couch. "I don't like that you have nightmares."
"I don't like that you get panic attacks." He says.
"Nothing will happen to your students. I promise." You look into his eyes, they are half-lidded as they look down at you from the height difference.
"We'll survive." He nods.
You two were silent for a while. Satoru occasionally took sips from his water.
"Thank you." He says, "for talking to me, I do feel better."
"I told you so." You bump his shoulder lightly.
"Don't you wonder how the rest of the world is?" Satoru lays back down.
"Sometimes." You say.
"Like what are other people doing? Do they feel as hopeless as us?"
"Of course they do. I bet they have nightmares and panic attacks too." You fight the urge to play with his hair, it's really been getting long.
He hums, "You better get some sleep." He says to you.
"And what about you?"
"I won't be able to sleep after my nightmare." He sheepishly smiles and gets up from his spot to switch with you.
"Are you sure?" You say, already feeling your eyes closing as you lay on the warm pillow he left for you.
"Yes." He chuckles and throws the blanket over you, taking your seat and continuing your puzzle.
You begin to drift off, you can smell Satoru's hair off of the pillow. He smells really good. It helps you fall asleep.
Satoru notices your steady breathing and cannot resist the urge to not touch your hair. He twirls it around in his fingers for a little, not in a creepy way at all, but he finds a lot of comfort with you. He notices his heart beating a little quicker whenever he's near you.
He's really screwed now.
