"Welcome to Remap Radio, a new podcast from the creators of Waypoint Radio. Rob, Patrick, and Cado gather to discuss what happened in the aftermath of being laid off, and how they ended up banding together to form a company and go into business together. What followed was an intense few weeks of talking with lawyers, searching for a new identity, and much more. We also spend time re-introducing ourselves. If you don’t know who we are, come say hello!"

my favorite thing about Remap Radio (formerly hit podcast Waypoint Radio) is their livestream beverage game. Rob just pulled out a whole mason jar filled with prosecco while Natalie held a Grimace shake up to the camera before proceeding to read the advertising off the side. truly unparalleled big sippers

It's very funny and very fitting that the final episode of Waypoint Radio ended with Cado explaining the "all according to keikaku" meme to Rob.

I'm real happy with this episode for a lot of reasons. We talk about videogame history, the ways in which queerness has become so much more prominent in game stories, but most of all, because it happened right as Waypoint learned it would be closed at the start of June. I owe a lot to the ways in which the people on Waypoint shaped the ways I think about media, politics, and the world, and I talk a little bit here about how I'm so worried for the landscape of games media, how games that will break from tradition like Gone Home did will find traction when it's only influencers and PR outlets "covering" games.
Fuck capitalism, go home.

Mortified! Episode 139: Underneath the Christmas Duck (Gone Home)
This week, @monsterfactoryfanfic and @leylses go home again in Gone Home! Join us for a farewell to Waypoint, a look back at the origin of walking simulators, and yet another brilliant pitch for a product no one will pick up because of cowardice.
Mortified! The Friendship Quest is a podcast where two long-distance friends exchange media recommendations and take a dive into things like the Artemis Fowl-to-Sasuke pipeline, making catboys mainstream with James Cameron, and occasionally invite some friends to play TTRPGs or talk about how Yugi Muto inherited male-pattern baldness from Yami Yugi.

The world is going gaga for sexy elephant Mario! At least, that’s what the crew at Remap Radio is telling themselves as they recap Nintendo Direct, and wonder if Embracer is a pyramid scheme. Elsewhere, Patrick’s experiencing the highs (hot wizards) and lows (a world not worth exploring) of Final Fantasy XVI, Rob’s really come around on the new Star Trek game, and Ren’s playing [checks notes] every Armored Core. We also find some time for your questions.

Local Date November 2552 /
Abandoned City, Forerunner Dyson Sphere
The breeze washed over Kelly’s armor, whistling as it traveled through the deserted city streets. At least… they were still operating under the assumption that this cluster of free-standing buildings was designed to be a city. No one could really say for sure, and even Doctor Halsey seemed trepidatious to concretely assign a purpose to the goings on in this place.
Ash walked beside her, and Mark was ten meters back. They had split up again… always on recon. Always searching for something. At this point, Kelly was fairly certain that Fred was just trying to keep them occupied so that they wouldn’t go stir-crazy.
Speaking of Fred, she started to wonder where he was. He and Olivia were supposed to meet back up with them some minutes before. He’d left a waypoint marker for Kelly to follow, but they weren’t there. She glanced down the various ‘streets’ curiously. If something were up, he would have radioed by now. So for the moment, she was content to wait.
The two young Spartans beside were not so easily satisfied. They were wandering back and forth, studying every blade of grass and every odd alien stone they possibly could. Kelly couldn’t help but grin at the sight. It wasn’t long ago that she had been exactly that way. In fact, most days she still was. But for now she was enjoying watching them run around like blood hounds searching for a scent.
Of course, it only took her a few minutes before she, too, had grown bored. Luckily, that was the moment that Mark spoke up.
“Chief?” he asked, and for just a moment Kelly heard in his higher pitched voice that he really was just a kid still. The pang she felt in her chest was… strange. It wasn’t guilt, per se, but it was somewhere along those lines. Perhaps empathy. She’d never been anything but a Spartan, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. But that didn’t mean that she wished it on others.
“What have you got, Spartan?” she asked, banishing her introspective thoughts as she approached the young man.
Mark studied the side of one of the buildings. “What do you make of these markings, Ma’am?” He gestured to a series of scratches on the wall at roughly knee height. Kelly knelt down low to examine them.
Her helmet would have maximized the image automatically and mitigated the need to get on the markings’ level if she had asked it to, but Kelly was never one to let machinery do the work when her legs operated just fine. When she got low enough to put the markings at eye level, her brow furrowed curiously. They certainly weren’t native to the structure. They looked like they’d been scratched into the alien material with the point of a combat knife.
She studied them for several seconds before a soft, genuine smile turned the corners of her lips.
“It’s Morse code,” she declared triumphantly. Both of the younger Spartans knelt lower to get a glimpse at it. They undoubtedly read it immediately, but by the slight hunch in their shoulders and the way they glanced at each other, she could tell the message was lost on them. “It means return to base,” she explained, standing up and resting her M90 on her shoulder. “Looks like the LT wanted to test our situational awareness rather than make it easy for us. Let’s roll.”
The younger Spartans immediately jumped to, standing upright and heading off at a jog toward base camp. Kelly was honestly surprised by how easily the lie had rolled off her tongue. She was fairly confident that Fred was testing their situational awareness, and that he did want them to return to camp, but the message carved on the wall meant nothing of the sort.
She lingered for just a moment longer, letting the others get a head start on her as she paused to take a snapshot of the carving. Dash-dot-dash, dot-dash-dot-dash-dot, dot-dot-dash-dot.
K + F
“You’re a sap, LT,” she muttered under her breath as she took off at a run, a grin on her lips the entire way.
