Waterproof Fabrics: The Perfect Solution for Outdoor Clothing and Gear
Waterproof fabrics are specially designed materials that are able to resist the penetration of water, making them ideal for use in outdoor clothing and gear. These fabrics have a variety of benefits that make them a popular choice for those who enjoy spending time outdoors, regardless of the weather conditions. In this article, we will explore the benefits and uses of waterproof fabrics.
One of the main advantages of waterproof fabrics is their ability to keep the wearer dry in wet conditions. These fabrics are able to resist the penetration of water, preventing it from reaching the skin. This is particularly important for those who spend time outdoors in rainy or wet conditions, as it helps to prevent hypothermia and other related health problems.
In addition to their waterproof properties, these fabrics are also breathable. This means that they allow air and moisture to pass through, which helps to prevent overheating and sweating. This makes them a great choice for outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and skiing.
Waterproof fabrics are also durable and long-lasting. They are able to withstand wear and tear, making them a great choice for outdoor gear such as tents, backpacks, and tarps. Additionally, many waterproof fabrics are treated with UV inhibitors, which helps to prevent fading and damage from prolonged exposure to sunlight.
When working with waterproof fabrics, it is important to choose the right sewing techniques and equipment. These fabrics can be challenging to work with due to their unique properties, but with the right tools and techniques, they can be easily sewn into any desired design.
In the fashion industry, waterproof fabrics are commonly used to make outdoor clothing such as jackets, pants, and boots. They are also popular for use in accessories such as hats and gloves. In addition, these fabrics are used in the production of a variety of outdoor gear such as backpacks, tents, and tarps.
In conclusion, waterproof fabrics are a versatile and durable material that is ideal for use in outdoor clothing and gear. They provide protection from wet and rainy conditions, while also allowing air and moisture to pass through. Additionally, their durability and long-lasting properties make them a great choice for outdoor gear such as tents and backpacks. When working with waterproof fabrics, it is important to choose the right sewing techniques and equipment to ensure a successful project.

Winter Conundrums #1
When it comes to waterproof outerwear, few brands have dedicated as much time to research and development as Norwegian Rain. Be it out of necessity (Bergen is the rainiest city in Europe), or sheer love for their craft, the Norwegian label is the undisputed master in keeping you dry.
After 15 years of existence, they've perfected tailored silhouettes with Japanese inspiration, that merge technology, innovation and sustainability, without compromising performance. I recently took a few of their styles for a spin, creating a few looks that reinterpret how contemporary tailoring can be worn.
The first style on the list is the NR Duffel: a technical raincoat inspired by traditional duffel coats, with military-inspired details and a slightly oversized fit that makes it extremely comfortable and functional. The army green hopsack fabric is surprisingly versatile for outerwear, easily adapting to a wide range of colours. The functional look is not purely for aesthetics, as it features 2 large flap pockets on the front that also function as side pockets, while the front straps allow for a tighter or more relaxed closure.
As usual, the jacket features several removable rain-focused elements such as the adjustable hood and storm flap, but I particularly loved the contrasting black shearling collar for added warmth and comfort. While I embraced the more military aspect of the duffel, pairing it with heavy-duty pleated pants and a brown colour palette, I can easily picture it being worn over a suit for a contemporary, super cool look.Â

Idk where I remember reading it but I remember reading somewhere that black knights were a specific class of knight who'd paint over their armor and coat of arms to signify they no longer served a king or lord and while I cannot find any evidence of that being actually true, I'd be lying if I said that idea didn't kind of fuck tbh
#there are tales of knights (lancelot especially) painting over their coats of arms for anonymity#but it was just so he wasn't recognized it had nothing to do with him breaking oaths or striking out on his own#in addition blackening armor was just a thing people did for ages#not symbolic of anything just because it did a good job waterproofing armour#making it resistant to rust and such#not evocative or indicative of anything just purely utilitarian#that also just happens to look really fuckin cool#It seems almost analogous to the ronin archetype which almost feels telling like someone just making shit up because it sounds cool#which to be fair it does#which is to say little of warriors who'd paint their armor and shields black for nighttime ambushes#which also has nothing to do with lords or kings and is a purely utilitarian thing#that coincidentally happens to also be cool lmao#but the lordless knight thing as far as I can tell seems to be a pure fabrication#and I'm sad about that since I love that as a concept#and I'd happily be proven wrong if anyone's got a credible source#lmao#pun's text posts

Beyond Fabric x Norwegian Rain
A while back I was challenged by T-Michael and Alex over at Norwegian Rain to rethink modern officewear using some of their most classic raincoats. A sort of a social experiment aimed at registering a moment in time and context, that portrays my interpretation of professional attires in 2023.
Inspired by 3 of Norwegian Rainâs weatherproof styles, I put together 3 different looks I could wear to work in a not overly formal environment. Breaking down the traditional suit and tie paradigm, all 3 proposals are polished and sophisticated, with their own unique twists.
The first, depicted here, is a vintage-inspired combination that feels fresh by incorporating the raincoatâs technical fabric and a raw hemmed flannel sports jacket. On the more classic end, we have a stripped club collar shirt and wool tie, paired with off white corduroy trousers.
