Pastel Sky
I painted this off a tutorial that @soshacreates has in her galaxy book. I didn’t have the recommended colors so I used my Paul Ruben Metallic Glitter paints and I liked how it came out. Some of the planets I added in the bottom layer are hard to see with the jelly roll pens.

Quick tutorial for my traditional art :). (Specifically how I made the comic)
I can do a more in-depth process later, but I dont currently have the setup for recording a long-term video yet.
First, I sketch some really loose thumbnail/storyboards. This is where I decide how the scene will look, the lighting, and where it is coming from.
Next, I sketch everything out with a pencil (im using erasable pens in this case). Then, line the sketches with colored pencil or black ink.
I only do this for the comic because a lot of planning goes into it. Typically, I just do some figure drawing sketches to warm up, then jump into a sketch with a pen without doing a draft. (Drawing without a sketch beforehand is good practice and gets your brain to think about where your going to place things!)
Dip pen and ink to line, watercolor, some white gouache, to color.
Painting/coloring is the last step I do and usually takes the longest.
After lining, I usually go back and make certain lines have more line-weight.
An example of lining with ink(without undersketch):🔽
For this one, I did the line-art with colored pencil (also without undersketch):🔽
After all the line-art is complete, I paint with watercolor, typically doing a wash with either a cool tone or warm tone for the underpainting (to set the mood/lighting) over the whole drawing and to make the colors more cohesive.
An example of this would be making the underpainting a cool tone for a snowy scene or making the underpainting a warm tone for a cozy or indoor scene.
(I dont have a video for an example of that because it's more of a long-term thing, and I dont have the setup for that)
Then, adding the flat colors, being mindful of where the light source and where it will shine on the person/scene, and where the shadows will be in contrast to that when shading next.
And Finaly adding the snowflakes overtop with Gouache.
(You can also do this whole process with other mediums, like marker, not just watercolor. Just find what works and looks good typically. it's not a strict process, I loved mixed media.)
Closeup example of finished product!🔽
I enjoy doing traditional art because it is more of a sensory experience, and I LOVE that. I have dabbled in digital art, but I end up liking the traditional process more, and feel more connected to my art when I have a physical version of it. (not all digitaly stored on a computer).
With traditional art, there is more risk of accidentally screwing up an artwork you spent a long time on.. I kinda like that because it makes it more exciting, and working under pressure forces you to sharpen your skills and refine your process, making sure you dont make the same mistake twice.
Also, I really love digital art and look up to a lot of digital creators, I try to replicate the digital look when doing traditional art, it's really fun! :)

How to transfer sketches to watercolor paper
Ever created a drawing you really love, then decided that you wanted to paint it in watercolor (or transfer it to another type of paper)? Or maybe you just want to avoid smudges on your good paper? Or transfer a digital sketch onto paper?
This tutorial will help!
Start with a sketch on plain cheap copy or sketch paper (print if you need to, or photocopy your original sketch if you don't want to ruin it).
Next, flip the paper over (so you're looking at the blank side) and put it on a lightbox. Don't have one? No worries! Hold it up to a window, or put it on your iPad screen at max brightness.
Now, take an (ideally HB non-mechanical) graphite pencil and scribble all over the lines shining through, until it looks like a messy copy of your original sketch.
(First image is of just the graphite back, second is of the corner flipped so you can see the original sketch too)
Now, attach it to your nice paper graphite side down. Use tape on two corners (so it stays in place, but you can peel up the other corners to check it).
Tips for easily released tape: Cut the tape to your desired length and put it on fabric, like your pants, and pull it off. Repeat a few times. The oils from your fingers plus the fibers will make it less sticky!
Now, trace the original side of your sketch with a ball point pen! You need a very sharp tip and to be able to see where you’ve drawn, so definitely use a ball point pen for this. Use firm pressure!! (Your hand will probably be sore if you do this all at once). Make sure you’re on a hard surface, too.
Tip: start in a corner you can flip to check, and make sure it's transferring properly. If not, add more/a softer graphite to the back and/or press harder.
When you're done, you'll have a light but visible pencil guide to paint right over!
Want other tips? Send in an ask or check out my tutorial tag!

I just wanted to share a tiktok I made where I document my painting process bc I get a lot of comments/messages about it & maybe you’ll be interested in seeing how I do it & maybe even try it out for yourself!!!!🙏💓🙏
I was also thinking about maybe doing a tutorial if anyone’s interested where I ACTUALLY explain myself instead of just showing the process.. lmk what you think😇🙏
And here you can see a comparison of a painting before and after I added the colored pencil🙏 (really need to trust the process here lol)
#I am a FOOL 😤 I downloaded like 5 reels off of insta for this post#and I can only post one😔🙏#if you want to see more lmk and I’ll try and figure it out jajajajajajajajaj#I just love painting and talking about art in general I hope you enjoy this!!😙#in the end this is the one that I think most clearly shows my process#so you don’t get the CURSED voiceover on a watercolor painting I made jajajajajajajajajaja#does anyone else despise hearing their voice in recording or is it just me#art resources#art tutorial#art#art process#traditional art#spirited away

Hey Sergle, how does one learn how to draw? Like, I am in my 20s, can barely draw a stick figure, and feel overwhelmed whenever I try to look up tutorials. Do you have any advice on how to start?
my Unprofessional advice on how to start in earnest, is to do it the way little kids do when they start learning to draw! which is to not approach it as learning at all. sitting down and scribbling out whatever comes to mind, reading a book or watching a movie and trying to copy the way the characters are drawn. draw a page full of cats. do it while you watch tv. doing all that w/o the Grown Up impulse to be embarrassed that you're new at a skill.
#I don't care if this advice isn't structured- i think this is the more fun way to learn!#I could send you a masterpost with links on tutorials and How Tos and Beginner Guides For Dummies etc but that's not.. the way I think#that it should work.#you could take a class or follow tutorials you find on yt and that's fine too. but like you said#it's overwhelming that way. bc then it feels like homework. and then it feels like there's a Certain Way to do it#and if there's a certain way to do it then that means there's a wrong way to do it.#oh the second part of this advice is to use physical art supplies. digital art is amazing#but traditional art and the practice of putting ink to paper is satisfying in a tactile way that digital art isn't#and you don't have to Set Up any art program to have the exact like. tablet settings you want#idk baby you should just pick up some art supplies that inspire you and get the ball rolling#steal some watercolor from hobby lobby if you must! paint some flowers. or some shit! have fun!#sergle answers
