Genuinely my main thing with the Watcher thing (I watch their stuff but I’d never consider myself a die hard fan) is that I really want to see the back end projections and business plans that went into this. Show me how their math mathed to the point that this seemed not just viable, but an improvement upon YouTube at this moment in time.
I’ve been watching it unfold all day and seeing the comparisons to Dropout, the unfortunate optics of reinstating the “let’s go eat stupidly expensive stuff” show as your first big new thing for the platform while also saying you don’t have money to do the “TV-quality” things you want, all that’s fine and dandy and not incorrect. But I just can’t see how this is financially going to win out.
I wish the boys the best, hope it works out for their sakes, and I hope regardless that one day we get an idea of what the decision making process was. Not the vague “ad revenue ain’t what it used to be” type comments they made in their very not-reading-the-room announcement video, but actual numbers. I’m super interested.

I’ve heard people say like “Watcher expected their parasocial fans to just happily pay the fee” but if anything I think the opposite. I feel like the whole subscription thing was them thinking “of course our fans will be happy to pay more for the expensive shit we want to do, because we have vision, because we are artístés” and they were actually surprised when everyone was like uh dude your film degree means nothing to me. I think Watcher was under the impression their fan base was about the art, not the artist. Which is so funny because this is a ghost hunting show. It’s like a grocery store romance novelist being confused that people want to see romance scenes and missed her subtle nod to the deleted scenes in Citizen Kane.
i think this very firmly hits one of the main points on the head. i do think that they severely misinterpreted what their audience prioritizes (high production quality > personality and comfort). i think a lot of their staunch supporters throughout this also fell into this trap a little bit. i saw a lot of "it's their channel, they can make what they want and don't have to listen to the demands of their audience" which is again, technically true, but that doesn't make them entitled to an audience.
if anything, i feel like this debacle just highlighted the honestly astounding amount of people who have continued to support them despite not even having a strong interest in their content since the move to watcher. and maybe that's not what they wanted to hear, but there are a lot of people who would love to have their audience's love and dedication

-
Black Cat Kagami = Nekomata

Bonus!! Ladybug Kagami (Aka-hime) and Black Cat Luka (Shadow Cat)

Hiya, this is me theorizing on what they could possibly be filming. I do wish and hope and overall pray that it's WWW. I'll do anything for my baby to come back from the war- but I don't think so. Then I thought it was Survival Mode because of that picture, but they aren't in their normal set for that, so possibly just testing out new games/equipment for Survival Mode (or maybe a Minecraft series *wink wonk*)-
BUT what if it's Are You Scared? Like the boys are reenacting something from the story they are reading? They did ask for stories a while ago, and probably takes a bit to read through them and pick those out in pre-production. Just a thought.
HELLO!!! :) I know they are both over, but i’m still manifesting www or tourist trapped. those series mean so much to me and I need them to come back like I need air to breathe 🙏😔
i want a minecraft series so bad so hopefully that is what they were playing. it’s true that they were not in their usual set, but i figured if they were testing, they would probably be playing soon so it might’ve been enough time for them to film.
i too considered are you scared! :) it was in my top 3 guesses (after www and a minecraft series.) i’m pretty sure it is the next, if not one of the next series that are going to come out. and it is very true that they did ask for stories a while ago, so it is very possible it is are you scared!!! honestly, i think them acting out something from are you scared is the most likely option with minecraft obviously not having trucks, and www sadly being dead :( but I am still holding onto hope!!! (but I am more than ok with the show they are filming being are you scared because, fun fact! that is my third favorite series and i love it to bits!!! :) <3)

I think my scorching hot take on The Watchers is, if it had ended with the scene on the bus I would have said it was a pretty good film. Possibly an excellent one.
Unfortunately. It did not end with the scene on the bus and only introduced a batshit third act twist for no reason.
UPDATE: checked letterboxd reviews, this is not a hot take literally everyone is saying this should have been 20 minutes shorter XD

god i do love drew simultaneously honoring seth and saying they shared a moment before immediately going "the money in the bank is bullshit!!!" when you know, seth famously is maybe the Most money in the bank money in the bank guy
like many heels drew is full of a wonderful hypocritical, self-serving inconsistency, he just does it with such intensity and genuineness and fun and humor. he is so good. and so scottish
