Out of all of the people The Ghost King Phantom expected to relate to, it definitely wasn’t the scrawny red headed photographer of the Daily Planet. Jimmy Olsen has gotten so many temporary superpowers over his time being Superman’s friend. Hell, he once gained a 4th dimensional being’s reality warping abilities when he was given said dimensional being’s powers during a fight. Sure there’s a dozen or so heroes with the same amount of powers he has, but none as suddenly granted to them as a all powerful god that can relate to a teenager.

Actually thinking more about Reiju's only sin being a woman and... Going into more depth, I know that logically/canonically she's smart and empathetic enough to not want to be in her brothers' place. She doesn't want to be an heir/ successor or follow the family's footsteps at all. She knows they're bad. She sees herself as such, too, unable to change/be different like Sanji was. She doesn't think she can bring her mother's kindness to this world the way Sanji does, so she sticks to what she knows, whether it is to protect Sanji too or to accept her fate.

BUT (and bear with me for a second here, I know I have been watching too much Succession lately) we also do know that during her childhood she didn't do anything to help Sanji from the abuse. She watched it happen because that was the way things went there and because she knew what would happen to her if she did. Of course, she ends up helping him escape and taking care of him but-- I'm just thinking, for a tiny little moment, about how she's actually the oldest.

She should be the heir. She should be the person everybody views Ichiji as. She should be considered the most responsible. The smartest. The strongest one. The one who should take the throne. And she doesn't even want it now, but what about back then? What about when she did have some little, tiny faith/hopes for her family and what they did? She sought approval and naively thought "my father is going to offer me the place I rightfully deserve, right?" blindly seeking acceptance like all of them did.

But no, because she might be the oldest but Ichiji is a man. She might be the strongest, the smartest, the most reliable... But she is not a man. And I believe there must have been a time when she expected her destiny to be something more, and once she realized she was just a woman in their eyes... Well, we know what happened.

I just keep finding similarities between The Vinsmokes (OP) and The Roys (Succession) and perhaps my headcanon of Reiju being similar to Shiv has gone a bit too far. But the scene where Shiv is like "This is real?" when Logan promises she'll be the CEO and he goes "This is real. Remember this. The slant of light" for it to be a lie later is something I fear could have happened with Reiju and Judge if Oda had given us more content,,,,

#the way he like seems to be choking back a sob of emotions before he says this #he can't bear the fact that he's causing her pain #and that there's nothing he can do to stop it #even though talking openly would help her but he can't do that #because if he does he would have to be vulnerable and if he's vulnerable aelswith might think him weak #which is something he knows she abhors (even though she hates it because of her own feelings of being seen as weak and unworthy)#and he can't bear her rejection because he loves her and if she were to reject him it would destroy him #he can be this open with uhtred because its a manipulation tactic #he's using vulnerability to get uhtred to do what he wants and thats why he can be so open in this scene. he's doing it strategically #but to be open with aelswith leaves him (in his mind) open to losing her since he's caused her so much pain throughout their marriage #and he would have to face the fact that he's done that and she might not forgive him and he can't do that #aelswith is so upset in this scene because she thinks its his final way of saying to her “you aren't worthy” when really its a tactic #to help ensure that she and their children will be safe #but they literally cannot properly communicate with each other because of all of the painful history between them #I'm going insane #I love them so much #they are everything to me #literally everything #he loves her so much #like he could not survive losing her - just the way he clings to her all throughout s3 speaks to that #I really think that because of the similarities between uhtred and aelswith uhtred's betrayal makes him start to fear that he could lose he #and he just starts to cling to her for reassurance that she'll never leave and she won't stop believing in him #ok I'm done #for now #I'm crying #your honor I love them #they mean so much to me

hhhhhh I need to properly reread Percy jackson again. This post brought to you by the fact I was about to make a post about a scene I very vividly remember of Will Solace trying to convince Pollux not to keep fighting with his good arm broken before Percy manages to convince him not to bc he promised Dionysus, then thought to myself "huh maybe I should fact check that- I mean I did also convince myself that Travis stoll died in this battle when he actually just went to college." And guess what? That scene ✨️didn't happen.✨️ Pollux was trying to convince Percy to let him rejoin the fight very half heartedly, while propped against a tree, and Percy was just like "hmmmm... no"

It was literally JUST that battle and over the course of like 3 days #Here's some I found while skimming my copy of tlo for the scene in question:#Nico trying to rescue/ speak to his mum ft. Hades being a really shitty person (& shittier father)#Rachel's family helicopter almost crashing #Percy having a conversation with may castellan #Luke very belatedly realising “hm maybe I shouldn't give complete control of my body and mind to kronos”#This one random half-asleep demigod Percy runs into at one point that might’ve been Clovis? The demigod was said to be 12 tho-#So maybe his brother?#Prometheus shows up and gives Percy Pandora's jar #Percy getting thrown in prison by Hades and STRANGLES NICO FOR BRINGING HIM TO THE UNDERWORLD????#nico sends the guards to sleep tho so yay dream powers from his dad #And then Achilles's ghost shows up and basically just goes “are you fucking stupid or something. Why would you want my curse”#Chiron brings the party ponies to fight (they got drunk on rootbeer instead)#I think literally the only things from this book I accurately remembered were #1. Michael Yew convinces Percy to destroy a bridge while he's still on it #2. Annabeth moves to protect Percy's weak spot before she even knew where it was #3. One of Silenus's brothers dies and grover gets to be part of the council #4. Silena regrets being a spy and steals clarisse's armour to fight a drakon #5. Clarisse is PISSED that she did something so stupid and kills the drakon with her father's blessing #6. The fact Percy and Luke actually managed to converse during the Final Battle tm and Luke told Percy his weak spot #7. Ethan is a character who existed and then died. He was the son of Nemesis #Hm actually that's a lot more than I thought #But again there are Things happening in this book and there are Many Of Them and most of them are pretty fucked up actually.#anyway #pjo #Something something how is this a kids book etc

It turns out the most fun way to engage with Barchester Towers is to map the characters on to other characters/people from the future that Trollope couldn't have known about.

Dr. Grantley = Squidward (ambitious, a bit pretentious/likes the finer things in life, tries for dignity but is easily angered)

Mr. Harding = Winnie the Pooh (sweet and small and simple and friendly and likes his little songs)

Mrs. Proudie = Mrs. Oleson (very opinionated domineering wife)

Mr. Slope = Rasputin (oily guy who uses spirituality to prey upon women and gain power)

hmmmm........i think so, to both!!! at the same time!!! i think its less one or the other, but the power/consequences of love is definitely highlighted a lot...and sometimes it has its strengths (the dedication, perseverance, forgiveness, and loyalty that comes as a consequence), but also eventually will show the downsides (unwillingness to destroy that which you love, making bad/unthinkable/unforgiveable decisions to save someone you love, that kind of thing)

i dont think its eventually what saves them all in the end, i think its moreso like a wrench thrown into the works that mochi and the rest have to work around it/deal with the consequences in turn

#the fact that we see mochi lowkey turn into amanita to save lime at one point is horrifying #they spend the whole first arc like (cant let amanita have magic because shes going to use forbidden magic)#and then mochi uses forbidden magic when the stakes are high enough #and also the thing about the stars not destroying the witch king because they loved him too much #and thus wreaked thousands of years of consequences + throwing it into mochis court to deal with #but at the same time love makes it all worth it #i guess its more like (love will be the reason you destroy) rather than (be destroyed)#i think the only character so far who thinks along the vein of (love is weakness) is amanita #most everyone else recognizes it almost as a force you dont fuck with as a witch #its actually quite feared in the magic community #it has the potential to make you do awful things #no one wants to love/fall in love because then you have a very exploitable weakness

love it when i find something to be weird and bullshit science about, truly my favorite part of blatantly non-realistic fandoms. i honestly love comic book/ fantasy science bc you can fake it into making sense even if that is not how things work. Anyway I want to write a fic where Bruce tries to build up an immunity to scarecrow's fear toxin and I get to extensively write about its effects bc I think Bruce should be nerdier

#bruce: im gonna subject myself to the ptsd box for science and that's not fucked up at all of me #i will do real life research for a fanfic you can count on me for that #i love it when bruce gets to be a little science dweeb give this guy a microscope and an alien rock #bruce will force himself to go through The Horrors so he can write a cool paper about it #maybe it will come in handy but sometimes it's just to torture himself because there is something so wrong with him on a fundamental level #just a guy on his quest to never show weakness to anyone and one day it will destroy him! yay!
