things that probably happened after the laudanum and arsenic kicked in

[somebody attacks lestat, something something memory is a monster]
Per Claudia's hobby of recording the dying words of her victims, lestat's final words are, "Mets-moi dans mon cercueil, Louis, Louis."
Tumblr media
[something something louis changes out of bloody fancy dress clothes to put on new clothes to get blood on while disposing of bodies]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
also over here in justfuckmeupsville i'm noticing louis folded lestat's left arm in to cradle lestat in his lap (lestat's arms had fallen out to the sides when he was on the floor)
Tumblr media
something something somebody puts lestat in his coffin. somebody puts him out with the trash.
IWTV: ["'Claudia had wrapped Lestat's body in a sheet before I would even touch it, and then, to my horror, she had sprinkled it over with the long-stemmed chrysanthemums.'"]
Tumblr media
In Louis's initial fantastical retelling, he drove them to the boat, but I mean he is not looking super together there, was he too distraught to be the one doing the driving, who knows

the iwtv fandom is always having the discussion of who of the established characters would actually stick up to marius when he returns to abuse armand again and what’s really fucked up is the only real answer is claudia. there’s louis (historically not very sensitive when it comes to armand’s “daddy vampire” and armand’s biggest hater atm), lestat (victim blamer who wants to fuck marius) and daniel (who basically implied armand lied about the entire thing). but then there’s claudia, who because of their shared experiences with white supremacy, class, sexual assault, orphanhood, sexually violent and abusive makerdads, and a lack of a true “home” to stake a claim to (“dad didn’t want me”) she’s on an infinitely more even emotional playing field with armand than anyone else in the show. there’s no major gap in understanding like is present with all of armand’s other relationships, whether it’s the french aristocrat or the former pimp. the only one who really got him, saw right through him, was and remains claudia. it would be her sticking up to marius, if she were still around. if armand did not doom the only person he’s met in hundreds of years that understands him. but the brutal truth is that it is exactly because of this shared understanding that armand could not tolerate her existence; in dooming her, in insisting upon the death of all too similar to him, he dooms himself.

you know what i think armand really hid those pages of claudia's diary not because they show his involvement in her unjust killing but because her bitching about him was so poignant and truthful her shit talking so profoundly real her dragging abilities so disarming he couldn't ever possibly show his face in public ever again

something so beautiful about claudia sharing her diaries with madeleine after having both of her parents read them without her permission… they really are soulmates, why must they be taken away from me so soon 😞

Loumand is not and CANNOT be a one to one reimagining of their previous roles as sex slave and brothel owner. louis does not have an equivalent power over armand as he did on emotionally, socially, and/or financially vulnerable women in nola, and armand’s submission is not reflective of a real powerlessness under louis
If we want to look for a marius parallel, it wouldnt be in louis who responds to armands initiations and engages in a consensual dom/sub dynamic. if we want to look for a marius parallel, who is in the predatory position here? Who is controlling information and its access? Who is the one exploiting an experience, knowledge, and vampiric power gap to get the love he wants?
But isn’t that the point? That their relationship is a shallow imitation, a re-enactment of roles which comforts both parties for their familiarity and essentialness while they were mortal? Neither of them were ready to grapple with their own identity in a meaningful way and these roles are something safe to hold onto, which may or may not be productive or accurate but they very well know the performance of this position and it is Still and it is Safe and who cares about absolute truths when you’re one wrong thought away from killing yourself
When hannah says their room is like a brothel and when assad says they revert back to older versions of themselves I think it speaks much more on loumands fear and denial to question and understand themselves than it does being a sexploitation revival. Louis put on the masculine, capitalist decision maker persona to survive his racist heteronormative life, and armand embodied the selfless submissive to survive his oppressive life.
Their brothel bedroom is a reinforcement that they have yet to fully actualize their self identity outside the context of the systems of abuse and oppression they have endured. They are vampires, armand transcends the societies that shaped him but hes still living subject and response to it. Both unwilling to be active players in their own lives, still riddled with the weight of their history that dictate them but will not be unpacked
At the end of the day loumand were two deeply traumatized immortals still struggling to come to terms with the enormity of their self so they repeated the behaviours that made them survive. They cannot stomach themselves so they will keep this up, and together they kept on surviving. Until Louis was ready to do the second interview, ready to reflect, to accept himself and move beyond survival.
Armand u are Next.

when are we gonna talk about claudia being forced into the rat box. that is... that is so fucking evil to me. the way she clawed her way out, screaming and crying, only to have her head forced down by the jeering coven. her first job, her last torture. louis perspective, he could only hear from the sack "when they found her". the trial was a scripted humiliation, but the rat box was just. uniquely evil. totally fucked up.

I cannot stop thinking about how tdp is and always has been, at its core, a show about parents and children….children breaking the cycle of their parents mistakes, parents facing those mistakes, parents and children going to the extremes for eachother, parents and children losing eachother…..
Arc 1 starts with the main trio making the decision to fix their parents mistakes (Callum and Ezran returning the egg to atone for their dad killing Avizandum, Rayla returning it because her parents ‘ran’) and arc 2 is so deeply about parent and child relationships (specifically fathers and daughters with Runaan and Rayla, Viren and Claudia, and Aaravos and Leola)

Many others have pointed out the similarities between the tunnel and the church scene but I wanted to put some portions side by side. You can see Louis preemptively offering the question ("ask me for it") and going straight to inviting Armand in. And then Armand having to ask a question (though not one of true permission, we see earlier in the episode he can come and go as he pleases) and Louis leveling him with ofc. "Are you gonna kill me?" Which Armand doesn't answer, simply follows him into his apartment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both scenes also have Lestat and Armand revealing some level of vulnerability to Louis before his acceptance of his impending "death" (obv Armand does not kill Louis here, but I think this can easily be read as a threshold being passed in many aspects, fates being sealed (Claudia's especially.) etc. Which I would argue are deaths in motion). While it's Armand's reveal of his former relationship with Lestat and that he's been hurt in the past that's right before him and Louis kissing I think his question of those with the most power being often the weakest that's a better parallel here. Combined with how Armand recounted Lestat's destruction of his coven we have a lot of building up to "I could not prevent it" levels here, and more context for how power functions between Louis and Armand in Dubai.

I really love this moment, right after Lestat has just turned Claudia. Louis moves closer to Claudia and Lestat stops him with a gentle hand on his chest.
And you just know here Lestat is thinking something along the lines of "We do not know this girl. I've never made a child vampire before and don't know what to expect. If she chooses to attack, I need it to be me, Louis, not you."
And then Claudia politely asks for some of Louis' blood and you can see Lestat breathe a sigh of relief.
You can say a lot of shit about Lestat, but one thing, he will do his best to protect Louis from every perceived threat that isn't him if it's the last thing he does.
