naw that final trial was Weird was there seriously only one cross-examination in that whole thing HUHHHH. strange strange rushed writing towards the end BUT WELL i liked this game anyways!!! 💥💥💥💥
#my mind went on all sorts of fitful fanciful fantasies like i thought valant was the killer and he wouldve showed up in court#and we would have to whip out the transferral rights envelopes like BWAMMM#and i even thought 'what if the gavinners are linked to apollos performer father' LMFAO#and kristoph was taking some crazy MUSICAL revenge or smth.. but no no such thing#but yeah this final trial is a bit of a weak point but eh#ALSO HEY TIME TRAVELLING EVIDENCE WASNT EXPLAINED AT ANY POINT. THE HELL WAS THAT#was that the jurist system....?????#i was hoping an ema and phoenix link up would show up at the end... awawawaeawa#still its ok. im a lot happier w this than i was with aa3's ending boyyyy that still disappoints me#oh and i also thought the fucking borginian coccoons would be related to kristophs motives as well like damn#OH WELL!!! im really fine and happy even if the ending is rushed bc well. CUTE SIBLINGS ARE MY WEAKNESS ❤️💙❤️💙❤️💙#aa lb

In Justice for All when Edgeworth returned and saw Phoenix for the first time, Phoenix seemed genuinely disgusted by him, thinking him a coward who only cared about Perfection just like Manfred. Phoenix probably really hated Edge for that year but all the fanworks i see are him just being like "oh miles I'm so glad ur not dead :)". Where are the twisted emotions?? Where is your rage????
that's an absolutely perfect moment to hone in on because as I've mentioned a couple of times in the past that was the exact moment where ace attorney injected itself permanently into my brain. I was fully expecting phoenix to be grateful and relieved to have Edgeworth back and offering him assistance at a time of crisis no matter how douchey he was about it, and so when he snapped instead I was completely blindsided and overjoyed. Like that was the moment when narumitsu went from Good to Superb for me because suddenly there is this entire other layer to the dynamic. I love a (un)healthy dose of resentment in any ship because I love when characters love each other despite having very good reasons not too so that bit was just. So good. Narumitsu getting the Sunshine One and Grumpy One treatment is so frustrating because phoenix has soooooo much more depth to him than that and he's my fave so it sucks to see how many people will just completely take him at face value
#I genuinely think the time period between RFTA and reunion and turnabout was#The absolute worst chunk of phoenix's life. Even worse than the disbarment.#Because when he was disbarred he at least had trucy. He has his work for the jurist system.#But during that stretch of time he had nothing and no one. He didn't even take any cases

i think everyone is overloking the fact that the seven year gap perfectly lines up with covid. i know we're all a little tired of it and writing about covid can be hard and depressing but CONSIDER. on top of all the other shit phoenix is dealing with he also has to be in lockdown
#the kings decrees#ace attorney#phoenix wright#im imagining: slice of life. phoenix zooming the borcht bowl club for poker games. trucy doing online school with the office in the bg#edgeworth would probably get stuck in italy when it shut down. seems like something hed do#thats why it took seven years to do the jurist system. planes overseas got shut down#i just think it could be fun#maybe ill write it. ill keep you updated

beanix has some fae level bullshitting skills down to the never lying (except for the bit)
#i can find exactly zero instances of beanix lying except to fuck with apollo in aa4#‘the forged ace’ beanix never said it WASNT forged#in fact he even straight up told apollo for zero reason#‘it was to get apollo on his side for the jurist system and prove to him the faults of needing decisive evidence’ ya but he didn’t have to#be that fucking dramatic#‘lies of omission’ doesn’t count as perjury#and like. he still gets apollo to believe he forged the diary page solely through implying a bunch of bullshit#he says all this contradictory stuff but once u align it with the truth all of it holds up#he uses ppl’s assumptions to wield the truth as effectively as someone might wield a lie#terrifying man. i love him more than life itself#apollo justice ace attorney#ace attorney#aa4#beanix

I have played one (1) singular trial to completion in Dual Destinies and already I have. well not SO many questions but one major, burning question.
#what happened to the jurist system???#I’ve seen like discussions abt why it was scrapped like in context of production which if true is Fine#but clearly w the whole phony phanty and bum rap rhiny thing there’s like. Problems people are working against still???#it’s so funny we go from ‘we’re ready to start trials to rehaul the legal system!!’#to ‘hey here are these cartoon characters created to campaign against the exact same problems from before AA4’#and NOBODY brings it up#which is just narratively a very funny but VERY jarring 180

he didn't forge the evidence, though. it was kristoph gavin who ordered the forgery. this was covered in the trial of vera misham. if you're going to try to compare yourself to well known figures, you could at least check the veracity of your claims.

#really hard trying to fit in a gavin brother backstory + borginian cocoon smuggling followup + jurist system aftermath +#sibling reveal + a coherent murder mystery + apollo backstory + exploration of themes of punishment in just 2 cases.... graah

Edgeworth only cares about important laws like "don't kill people" he has no respect for trifling little inconveniences like "you can not freely investigate inside of an embassy without consent because it is foreign soil" or "you can not compel your employees to do additional unpaid work outside of their job description" and certainly not "you need to follow the speed limit." Guy who is champing at the bit to mansplain the Autobahn to anyone in the general vicinity. His biggest success during his tenure as chief prosecutor is facilitating a statewide adoption of the jurist system, resulting in an unprecedented decline in false convictions. His most notorious failure is his deeply unsuccessful campaign to remove speed limits from various California highways.

Dual Destinies Spoilers (5-5)!
so what exactly did phoenix mean when he said he was sorry for everything he put edgeworth through?
a quick look at forums/reddit netted me the following interpretations:
he’s apologizing to edgeworth for ushering in the dark age of law and leaving him to deal with the aftermath
he’s apologizing for all the trouble edgeworth went through to help him get reinstated/vouching for the jurist system
neither of these feel quite right to me. the first point because phoenix says he's troubled miles for “eight years”, yet the dark age of law didn’t officially start until a year after he was disbarred (simon blackquill’s guilty verdict). this means the dark age would have only been in effect for seven years. also, shifting public opinion of the courts is edgeworth’s responsibility as the chief prosecutor, which he’d only been for about a year as of 5-5.
*granted, i wasn’t as locked in for dual destinies as i was for other entries in the franchise, so this could just be me not paying enough attention to when the dark age began.
i do think phoenix feels guilty for contributing to the public’s negative perception of the courts, so this interpretation still holds some merit, unlike the former half of the second interpretation, which doesn’t make sense at all. phoenix didn’t get confirmation edgeworth pulled some strings to get him reinstated until after 5-5’s resolution, when edgeworth openly admits it. the latter half is fine, but i don’t think it was specifically the jurist system he was referencing—one because “eight years” implies phoenix began work on the jurist system immediately after the gramarye trial and two because edgeworth’s response, “i’m sorry i wasn’t able to help you” contradicts the idea that phoenix's apology was related to his help with the jurist system.
so what is phoenix apologizing for? we know how terribly he was affected by losing his badge aka the focal point of his identity, which amplified his cageyness and bitterness tenfold. we know edgeworth was present in his life because he would fly phoenix and trucy out to europe while phoenix was disbarred. we also know from this dialogue that phoenix purposefully kept edgeworth from “helping” him (“nah. i was the one who made that decision”).
this leads me to believe the trouble he put edgeworth through was—on top of the agreeable parts of the two aforementioned interpretations—emotionally charged, angsty 7-year gap + lead up to his return anguish, wherein phoenix shut miles out and miles had to shove his way in, first trilogy phoenix style. and edgeworth’s apology, while seemingly related to phoenix’s badge, was also about him feeling like he hadn't done enough to aid phoenix during the lowest point in his life.
#ace attorney#phoenix wright#miles edgeworth#narumitsu#dual destinies#dual destinies spoilers#vel’s fic brainstorms#i have three diff wips tackling this concept oh god#not meant to be an analysis#more like me grasping at canon straws to justify a personal favorite hc#queued post

Cannot stop thinking about an au where Turnabout Trump doesn't happen/happens but Olga is convicted instead so Apollo is still working at the Gavin law offices for his first few cases. He meets Trucy at one of the crime scenes and she tags along on his investigations, but she doesn't tell him about her connection to Phoenix until after their first case together. Ema likes Apollo less at first bc she doesn't like the fop and you work for his brother, who she also hates bc he's very condescending when he cross examines her in court.
When you meet Klavier in the second case you can ask Kristoph about him and vice versa. They don't interact with each other but you get to learn some more things about the brothers, their opinions on each other and their backstory. You also find out that Klavier was the one who got Phoenix disbarred and Kristoph is apologetic about it, given that Phoenix is his "friend" (though they haven't interacted at all since phoenix was found not guilty).
At one point Trucy is visiting Apollo at the Gavin Law Offices when Kristoph returns and "politely" kicks her out. She then reveals to Apollo who the daddy she keeps talking about actually is. You get to meet Phoenix again in the next case and find out more about the incident 7 years ago.
Over the course of the game you/Apollo starts to grow more suspicious of Kristoph and his intentions, alongside a growing sense of horror that you got an innocent person convicted in your first case. It all comes to a head in Succession when Drew Misham finally uses the stamp, which turns up fixed to a letter in the Gavin Law Offices postbox that Apollo collects on his way in one morning. You hand it to Kristoph and he promptly disappears with it, feigning excuses. Phoenix uses this case to finally spring his trap and test the jurist system. Kristoph gets the double whammy of his brother and mentee turning on him at once and the murder of Shadi Enigmar is properly resolved. It's also revealed that Trucy started tagging along on Apollo's investigations to collect intel for Phoenix.
At the end of Succession, Apollo is offered a role at the newly-renamed Wright Anything Agency and there's a final rise from the ashes-style case that serves as Apollo's first proper case as an official WAA employee and helps tie up some loose threads/lets the characters deal with the fallout of Succession.
Idk I just think it'd be fun/satisfying to realise slowly that there's more to everything than meets the eye.
#yeah im using you/apollo interchangeably bc both are applicable#idk i just think itd be really fun#plus you'd get more history for the gavin brothers and who doesnt want that?#ace attorney#apollo justice#kristoph gavin#klavier gavin#trucy wright#phoenix wright#how did olga end up getting convicted in turnabout trump? who knows!#maybe phoenix chose not to forge evidence to implicate kristoph#maybe trucy wasnt able to deliver it#i feel like the second and third cases would still be Corner and Serenade but adapted#maybe switched round so serenade is first and corner is second#so you meet klavier after theres a murder at his concert and he returns to prosecution to find out which of his friends/colleagues#is the culprit#and then you meet phoenix in the third case after his incident with the car

"The case for the Jurist System test trial is pretty simple"
Phoenix you chose the case because you have 7 years worth of evidence against Kristoph Gavin and decided to change the case last minute because you realized, based on your 7 years of evidence, that Kristoph was behind the whole thing. If that's a "simple" court case, I'm a tree
