So I went to the wiki page for the henghill Bullet & Brain mission of 2.2 looking for some dialogue I had missed and

a) I found something incredibly tasty that slotted into some other thoughts I'd been having, more on that on another day, and

b) I saw this super fun little trivia at the bottom, which!

I knew Penacony characters like Boothill took a lot of inspirations from old movies, but I didn't realize it was even in his and Dan Heng's relationship, that's so cool!!

It fits them very well, it's such a fun reference. "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" was an old buddy Western film (from 1969- nice) about a pair of outlaws. Butch Cassidy was the leader of a gang, and described as clever, affable, and talkative. Meanwhile, his closest companion, the Sundance Kid, was known as a man of few words.

Cassidy's original birth name was much more plain, but similar to Boothill, he took on a new moniker when he became an outlaw. "Cassidy" had been the last name of his beloved mentor, who taught him how to shoot and ride. And Sundance Kid was known as he was because Sundance was the name of his hometown, and it was the only place that had ever managed to catch and jail him, back when he'd been younger (also similar to Dan Heng, but ouch).

These two stick together like glue throughout the length of the film- through Cassidy's leadership of the gang being challenged, through a train robbery gone wrong, through being pursued by mercenaries, and even through fleeing to Bolivia and trying to start over together.

I don't want to say too much more, since the mission title is referencing one specific movie that I've never seen. I kinda wanna watch it now, though, just to see the inspiration that went into Boothill and Dan Heng and how they get along. I just think it's really sweet that these two were literally made to be the best of bros, how lovely is that. 💕

#honkai star rail #this can be ship or plantonic tbh yall are always free to tag my ramblings as you please haha #just! they're so sweet!!#FWENDS #i would love to see more of them being a dynamic duo further down the line ♡#i think the film moved things along a little quicker but the real life Cassidy and Sundance were actually in south america for a few years #they fled there to get away from pursuers along with Sundance's girlfriend Etta Place.#supposedly they managed to buy a small ranch and the three of them lived peacefully (and even lawfully!) together for like three years-#-until the law caught up with them again #at some point Etta Place returned to the US reportedly due to illness rather than not wanting to get caught like in the film #Sundance may or may not have escorted her back. but whether he did or not he returned to South America with Cassidy #the two of them eventually got into a huge firefight with authorities where Sundance was fatally shot and Cassidy chose to end his own life #that's the most common story anyway. some also say Cassidy snuck back into the US again where he lived quietly until his death.#but it reads kind of like rumors of Elvis Presley sightings to me BSMZKNSKS #the film ended much more happily with the two of them getting into shenanigans and a freeze frame of them in a hail of bullets haha #i wanna see Dan Heng and Boothill fight together too it would be so cool aaaaaa #they would be great at getting into shenanigans! as we've already seen!!#fun bonus info: Boothill's ult literally puts black bars at the top and bottom of the screen to look like a widescreen Western movie #fun bonus info 2: Cassidy was regarded with respect by some people bc he never stole from the poor he only robbed big companies #this is actually nicer than Boothill is in canon bc he openly admits he will rob someone blind if he doesn't like them BSKZKKZMSKDK #(although I feel like its implied he has more standards for this than he gives himself credit for.#like he makes it pretty clear he doesn't particularly like Argenti at first and thinks he's annoying as shit but I'm sure he didn't rob him #...would have been real fucking funny if he did though oh my god I would love to see him try that. it absolutely would not work BSKZKNSKSJS #hsr #henghill #bootheng #dan heng #boothill #hsr boothill #hsr dan heng

#yesterday i was At Work #i opened alone (we are so fucking understaffed)#at like 945 (coworker came in at 10) these two women-#who until now have done NOTHING managery. they have walked around and talked to each other and asked questions #come up and in a pissy voice like um why hasn't group started #i say i'm the only one back here #'well can't you start ONE group?'#no...im the only one back here #'can you start individuals?' yeah i'll ask [host lead]#(annoyed voice) 'um why do you have to ask her?' because i'm not a lead so she's in charge?#(angry voice) well WE are GENERAL MANAGERS and we are TELLING YOU to do SOMETHING like START INDIVIDUALS #like. chill i am literally just some guy and i am the only guy back here #i also feel its worth noting that apparently since they caught me in the hallway they assumed i hadn't been doing anything #when in reality i hadnt sat down since i got to work. all i did was doing things. there is more to my job than Watch Dogs. especially when #im the only guy doing any of the anything #and i couldnt start individuals immediately because i had to do spot cleans. because i prioritized Not Letting Dogs Sit In Their Own Shit #before dog getting some playtime #like. yes i am a Lower Level Employee. yes i havent worked here that long. but i have worked here longer than you #and im gonna take a wild guess that i care about the dogs more than you #also worth noting that i got no breaks that day (if you work a 6+ hour shift you get a 30 and a 15 at my work)#so i sat down for a total of 5 minutes and that was to take a piss #for context. i worked 7 hours. 6:15am to 1:15pm.#so i have a Bad Feeling about these new general managers. really hope im wrong and this is a one-off thing but. ohhhhh boy

"Until Olympius Returns" by The Mountain Goats

#song of the day #I enjoy this song for itself--classic Mountain Goats sharp and clever and fun for me to sing #but at the risk of sounding insufferable: this is the song of the day because I like how John Darnielle talks about it #there's an interview (he did it for Bandcamp but I read the quote on genius.com) and he says how the song has a lot of potential parallels #how it could make an excellent metaphor for any number of things--but when he was writing it he was only thinking of the literal story #he'd read a history of Olympius and his followers and then he turned that history into a song and then after people were putting Meanings o #and he doesn't ever say people are wrong for seeing all these parallels and meanings he didn't intentionally write in #what I like is that he says 'I think one of my strengths is that my faith in stories is so strong #that I don’t need to make them be more than what they are. I trust them to do that by themselves'#I like that so much #it's something I struggle with in my own stories sometimes. I get caught up in wanting the audience to know all my themes and shit #and I forget that while themes and narrative structure are a big part of making a good story it still has to be a good story first #I need to make sure it stands on its own first and let people find what they need in it after #and I need to not worry about having somehow done something wrong if what they find isn't what I meant to plant for them

i already knew about roy’s wattrel evolving because people on twitter were comparing it to gliscor’s evolution and claiming it’s the same thing and it’s kinda amusing to me because liiiiike. gliscor didnt really invent the concept of evolving to save your trainer, thats literally a potential reading for charizard’s evolution. when i compare later pokeani moments back to gliscor i hope im implying properly that it’s all mostly just a bit. like im not actually saying dracovish is just like gliscor because it also refused to be recalled in an important battle so it could fight to the end.

that being said gliscor’s evolution was like a million times better than kilowattrel’s lol

#last batch of horizons eps were sorta eh to me (minus the friede one that was cool)#(minus ann being barely in the ep. i feel like her meeting up with the gang couldve been its own episode #rather than just the backdrop for friede’s plotline)#im personally chalking it up to just the anime slowing down for a sec tho. im assuming its picking up again #what with the elite 4. this seems to be the trend with hz #buuuuut idk. i kinda wanna wait til ive rewatched the eps that are currently out #not considering my rewatch done til im completely caught up #echoed voice #anyways back to kilo…. idk both evolutions that happened didnt quite feel earned #like wattrel is just kinda insecure in the episode but it just kinda… evolves with no training? its also barely been used in the show #feel like they just evolved a few team members to keep things interesting ig #side note i want them to pull a brionne and just have crocalor only be around for like 10 eps #before it evolved again bc i dont care for crocalor #like. back to comparing it to gliscor- her evolution was built up throughout the episode #and she went through some trials and getting kidnapped and bondong #bonding more with ash in the process #and theyd had more moments with her in between the capture and the evolution to justify it. the episode literally happens #bc pauls gliscor fucked her shit so badly a few episodes before #have i ever talked abt how thats just genuinely such a well written episode all around. like god they had gary and everything #remember when gary being in an episode made the episode better instead of making me feel nothing. i miss that #compared to that kilowattrel just kinda. happens. wattrel is insecure and then it saves roy and now its just better #sorry kilo you got kinda cursed by having ppl compare you to gliscor and thats not fair to you but it wont stop me
