So I didn't grow up watching anime, due to living in a somewhat strict household with a mom who hated anime (at the time, and honestly she had valid points when I was younger but she's getting really into Studio Ghibli currently). That being said I did have a phase of being interested in it when I was younger and watched bits and pieces of a few different anime, the first being Your Lie In April and then a little bit of Hunter X Hunter and probably a couple others that I don't remember.

But there is one that I do remember vividly.

I found Noragami by chance when I was like 14 and I kid you not, something about this story unlocked new emotions in me that I didn't even know I could feel. The effect it had on me still ripples through me in my adult life. When I first found it, it kicked off a new era of storytelling for me, because it inspired me to write something that had actual weight, something that was very close to my heart. Which led to me writing more and more and learning how to write more in tune with what moved me. I still think about Noragami all the time. It was only in the last year or so that I finally read the manga, and while I found it difficult to follow at times, it's still such an incredible story. I know there's not a huge chance of the anime getting another season, but I will absolutely sob if it does, by some miracle. I would love to see these characters alive again.

Noragami fans, another small detail has hit the me!!

At the end of all the season 2 openings for episode 1 to 12 Yato turns around and looks at the camera like this

However, at the end of the opening for episode 13 he smiles instead

I finished reading noragami, so some thoughts and ramblings, mostly abt stuff near the ending!

The manga was waaay better than I remember it being! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, and may have actually binged the whole thing in like, four days oops. Yato is such a great character, Yukine is precious, and I feel like I'm liking Hiyori way more than I used to. Girl is basically a step away from becoming an ayakashi or straight up dead the entire series, but she's not letting that stop her AT ALL, while also keeping up with school well enough to become a doctor. I wish I could have attitude like that with my migraines asjdkflfk

I am surprised they were able to revive Hiyori. I had seen spoilers that Yato would make her his shinki, but I had managed to dodge the spoilers that she would just... go back to normal afterwards? A part of me kinda wishes she had remained a shinki, but that being said, I also cried my eyes out seeing the panels of everyone realizing they wouldn't be able to call her Hiyori anymore.

It's so painful T_T

Tho it's probably for the best that she was revived, because there's nooo way at least Yato or Kofuku wouldn't have called her Hiyori within 24 hours. I feel like she may have been able to survive learning her real name similar to Kazuma, since she was super loved both by her family and by the gods and shinki who knew her.

I feel like they could've explained why Yato survived a bit more nicely than just "oh he and his demon pals went viral on social media". I feel like they could've at least explained him surviving with him bringing Hiyori to the hospital and people seeing him save her or something. Or have Amaterasu do something instead of her just basically chilling in the background the whole time. In general I guess the ending felt a bit lackluster in terms of Yato's development, since he didn't seem to gain much status as a god at all despite everything he did, but eh. It was a nice ending in the grand scheme of things. And definitely emotional T_T

Kazuma and Yato fighting together was soooo cool! I'm glad Kazuma survived, tho a part of me would've also kinda loved if he didn't lol. It would've been so tragic, but I guess Bisha wouldn't have made it then either. I did cry a bunch when it was kinda implied that Kazuma was dying.

I ALSO cried when they revealed that Yato and ayakashi!Yukine first fought at the exact place where Yato had buried Yukine's real body asdkfjghfdgkld. It was so painful. I love how they did it, because it was so clear during the fight that the place was somehow significant, but at least I would've never guessed WHY it actually was so important to Yato. AND then that followed up with the fact that spirit!Yukine was hanging out near the mail box at the start of the series because he wanted to send that last letter to his sister?????

My poor heart asdkgjhdlkfgjd. The way Yukine's/Haruki's backstory was portrayed through the last parts of the manga was so great and SO painful.

I'mma end this with a couple random panels that really struck me with so much emotion while I was reading through the manga.

vague DP x Noragami crossover time~

Hiyori is terrified of Danny; something about him rubs her so so wrong. She tries her best to be nice, but she is the equivalent of a shivering chihuahua puppy in his midst. Danny feels kinda bad about that, but he can't really turn it off without turning human so he tries to stay as calm as possible around her.

Yukine, on the other hand, loves him. He thinks Danny's so cool and keeps bugging him about stuff from America and trying to show off how much he knows about the culture (a very impressive amount actually), and goes nuts seeing all the things Danny can do with his ghost powers. Danny feels the same about Yukine, gushing about his Shinki abilities and urging him into telling stories about his adventures and Japanese culture. These two become good friends.

Yato is kind of indifferent, and then the tiniest bit jealous once Yukine starts looking up to Danny. After getting to know him a little more, Danny has a hard time believing someone like Yato is a real "god".

It doesn't take long for Yukine to start looking up to Danny, just seeing how easily Danny can take care of Ayakashi (named "Phantoms" in the anime, heh) impressed Yukine enough to ask for advice. Thus, Yato's "oh hey potentially a customer!" doesn't last more than a day or two.

Danny does accidentally hang out with Hiyori in human form, and she does not recognize him in the slightest. She also isn't afraid of him at all in human form.

Important note: Danny, to this trio, only know him as "Phantom"

Side idea: I,,, am gonna be honest, I dunno how the naming system would work realistically, but somehow with some word, Yato gets cut off from saying the whole word of something and Danny gets a funny feeling in his chest! By the time he feels two hands holding him tightly, he realizes that he is A) not in ghost form, B) not in human form, and C) he was-

"A Thermos?" Yato asked. "Bit of a random item, but- HOLD ON YOU'RE A SHINKI?!"

Danny did not, in fact, know he was a Shinki.

The idea is: Yato, being a "god of calamity" (if this isnt actually true, F to me), and Danny, being... whatever the hell amalgamation of ecto-energy and ghost shit and human being that he is- they both sort of? overlap? If that makes sense. And so, even though Yato did not intend to call a Shinki, nor did he know Danny was a Shinki (and that he had apparently bestowed a name at some point and completely forgotten about except- that's impossible what the fuck) he had none the less a new Shinki in his possession. One that turned into a thermos.

Idk how this would go plotwise, but Yato would immediately turn around and go "hey, Yukine, isn't this great? We can use Danny to keep food warm in the winter-!" and then he gets wrestled to the ground by Hiyori of all people, who was previously keeping a good distance between her and Danny and also panicking a little bit because it seemed like his smell completely disappeared what-

And Danny is just "what the fuck what the fuck what the fuck" and "did my parents sell me to the calamity god at some point???"

The answer he gets is no, but he's never totally sure and is always suspicious about it.

Some more notes:

-> He freaks out Hiyori because he smells like an Ayakashi

-> Yukine is a little bit drawn to him due to their similar (enough) circumstances.

-> Yato doesn't give much of a shit beyond the usual, at first, because he's used to the presence of death and Ayakashi near him. And Danny's existence isn't much of a surprise to him after hanging out with a sort-of Ayakashi (Hiyori) for so long.

-> After transforming into a Shinki for Yato, Danny can, in fact, blight him! When he changes back to his non-thermos self though, he does not blight Yato.

-> Danny offers to teach Yukine math one (1) time when Hiyori is unavailable and it ends with both of them getting repeat lessons. Danny thinks its a rip-off that he's not in school and yet he's still doing homework.

i was so over Noragami but goddamn i keep going back to how Kazuma fucking kills people and tortures people and controls, subjugates, dominates people and he DESIRES his god and he can do all that without them being sins because he's fully convinced in his actions being justified and his insane love for his god overcomes all, gods can do wrong? KAZUMA can do no wrong by the power of his own will. god bless.

Despite how silly it is at the start, the existential dread really is always there in Noragami.

It's like "Haha Yato's so funny for believing in good luck charms but what if he's grasping onto anything he can because he knows there's not much keeping him in this world?🙃" ☹️
