Hi does anyone have GS Dennings on speed dial, I need to talk to him about where the FUCK the next book is.
Like you CAN NOT leave the series like that and then disappear! I mean I'm grateful I'm here four years into his hiatus and not sooner but I'm already chomping at the bit for more. We've still got the Valley of Fear and His Last Bow at least to cover, not to mention how the end of the world has only just begun!
In other news I am going to chewing on this universe for the next few months haha. It's just so GOOD! The VIBES are IMPECCABLE!!!!
@deathishauntedbyhumans last one for now, thanks for indirectly keeping me motivated hehe

Reasons to read Warlock Holmes by GS Denning:
It's a Sherlock Holmes adaptation that makes fun of the confusing parts of the original stories such as continuity errors and perspective shifts
Demons!
Nihilistic vampires!
Prophetic but spiteful Oracles who's sole purpose in existence is now to harass a dead wizard
2 instances of what I will call a Mummy coma
2 instances of horse murder but not in the way you would think
A canonical Johnlock kiss
Magic users galore
A surprisingly prevalent queer allegory
A complexly evolving villain who ranges from inconvenient occasional possessor to murderous magic mafia crime lord
Plot relevant paper boat hat
Plot relevant gambling problems
Extremely competent Watson, character flaw: English
Extremely powerful magic user Warlock Holmes, character flaw: Mental Illness
Other reasons not involving the text: I really need to be able to talk to folks about these books,I am deeply unwell about them

[ID: a picture of a quote from the Warlock Holmes series, which is highlighted in yellow. It reads, "'How would I nurture a blade made of hatred and bone?' I wondered. Holmes shrugged. 'Hate things? Drink milk?'" End ID]

There’s a passage in The Sign of Nine where Watson reflects on the fact that to Holmes, eating toast and soup “brought him some relief from the fact that he was an outsider to the human experience and that everyone he loved had died two hundred years ago.” This isn’t just a personal comfort thing for Warlock, it is a literal gift from the goddess Hestia. So Holmes can eat things besides toast and soup, but chooses not to. (I’ve never remembered him eating anything else, but if anyone else does feel free to inform me)
So Warlock chooses to only eat soup and toast because it is one of the very few things that brings him any comfort in his quite frankly miserable existence.
This all supports my claim that Warlock Holmes is the saddest Holmes adaptation. In this essay I will…

For those of you who like Sherlock Holmes, do I have a recommendation for you!!
The Warlock Holmes series by Gabriel S. Denning is a fantastical parody of the original Sir Conan Doyle books. In this version Holmes is a bumbling warlock and Watson is the real master of deduction. It points out some of the peculiarities of the original books for those that have read them, but even if you haven't it's a good read in general.
I've been listening to the audiobooks and the narrator is really good!

I am currently listening to the audiobook of
'Warlock Holmes: A study in brimstone' by G.S. Denning
It is halarious. imagine a period Sherlock holmes book.
but.. Sherlock's name is "Warlock".
and he's possessed.
and Lastrad is a vampire.
and there's also a ogre.
and Dr. John Watson is better at deduction than Holmes.
It's halarious. Please read.

So recently I've gotten into the Warlock Holmes series by GS Dennings, I'm on the second book of five and LOVING IT.
I just had to draw some of my favorite aspects from the first book because seriously it's so much fun.
The postings don't sell it well so let me give you a better summary:
Desperate for lodgings, John Watson makes a deal with the strange and unusual Warlock Holmes for a cheap room and place to stay. Very quickly his life goes from mundane and impoverished to terrifying and fascinating as he finds himself surrounded now by demons, spirits, sorcerers, and the undead.
It's black comedy, surprisingly rich in horror sometimes, and the absurdism is still somehow incredibly faithful to the original stories- highly recommended!

I mean, obviously Jeremy Brett!
But I'd also like to nominate Warlock Holmes, as written by G S Denning. He's useless at deduction, but he does have the might of a thousand demons behind him.
Jeremy Brett is in!
I think the Watson from this book actually qualifies, while Holmes does not. Watson is after all the one doing all the deductive reasoning and such. willing to hear arguments otherwise but for now at least-
Dr. John Watson!
