Rereading Sansukh (by Determamfadd on AO3) and poking about for Gimli/Legolas fanart (while "Gigolas" is the most commonly used shipname, I used "GimLas" as a tag for a while but have since taken to "GimLeaf"), I have found my Elrond Favouritism to have flared up rather dramatically. I have found myself spiralling in comment sections over Pained Discoveries on what the Amazon Series has gotten up to, the ease with which Celeborn is misnamed to Setting-Breaking Effect, and undoubtedly startled far too many innocent fanfic writers accidentally caught by my wandering thoughts!
so i must warn, after spending so long Away & having last been active in the Meta of Other Fandoms, that i shall be subjecting innocent bystanders to
THE JUSTICE FOR CELEBRIAN AGENDA
since it has been an actual decade since i last read LOTR (let alone The Hobbit) and that, whilst I was somehow dragged inti watching 2/3 of PJ's Hobbit Trilogy, I have only ever managed to watch the FIRST of PJ' LOTR films in its entirety (the films are LONG and almost all the gaiety of the source text is woefully neglected, prompting my younger self to fall asleep to dreams of flapping away with Galadriel's big swooshy sleeves).
given the State of my Memory (vague, confused over what if book canon & what is fanon & what is from action film adaptations), my "Meta" will be Confused and Weird and Possibly Somewhat Satirical.
after all, for all that i dub my Grievance with Live-Action Tolkien adaptions as "Justice For Celebrian!", Celebrian herself is a Character Known Through "Absence": for being without her, every elven-affiliated character is Changed when "reencountered" in The Hobbit & LOTR.
#hollow whispers#justice for celebrian#tolkien fandom#elrond meta#galadriel meta#there will be some ignorant ranting about TROP despite my refusal to watch it#there will be some ignorant bemoaning over PJ's films despite my seeing only half of them#there will be confused recountings of “canon” as reinterpreted by fans not any tolkiens#there will be srs modes that abruptly go into meme territory & back again#there will be occasional instances of Gushing over how Tolkien uses historiography & [translation] to diffusecanon for funsies#which might accidentally trip me into lamenting over how translation as violence is so very contemporary an issue & how AI affects creative#which is dredged from how the bulk of my fandoms are affected by tge adaption of translating texts to ENG#translation is a very dear & personal subject to me and tolkien uses it in his legendarium as a framing device#yet tolkien & his son were both very white englishmen#tolkien had significant character development over the course of his lifw & it is evident in his work#he was still limited by a mortal lifespan & thus he was “stalled” from achieving full comprehension of the values he was chasing#values of love for all & unglorious war & the import of [tradfem-assigned functions of western society] & not being casually racist#tolkien was working through the unlearning of antisemetism throughout his writing of the legendarium#as a goy i cannot testify how successful that venture was#tolkien never quite got 'round to reevaluating how orientalism sucks but he did realise that his messages had gotten muddled thereabouts#the tolkien fandom remains somewhat awkward about orientalism & its existence#i kinda blame the PJ films & star wars for making so many westerners blind to all the casual appropriation going on#wait this rant was a warning about my celebrian agenda#as the tags evidence my mind is v scattered atm so my articulation will be ???

So, I could be out-of-bounds here since I think you meant it as dark humor, but what did you mean in the tags of that 'israel-hamas war' post? I suspect you(and op) are criticizing that framing because Israel is obviously demolishing much more than 'Hamas'(and probably doing a terrible job of actually targeting terrorists- they seem content to reduce Gaza to rubble even if the brass of Hamas escapes). I'm guessing that by saying "joining the Israel-Hamas war on the side of Hamas" you mean, if they're going to conflate Palestinians with Hamas unilaterally, then you're saying, whatever the media wants to call Palestinian civilians- you still support them. I am asking anyways though bc, given reports of increasing antisemitic activity in the US and Europe, I am worried about the potential for blurring lines between the cause of Palestinian civilians and the alt-right individuals who are likely masking their antisemitism in the context of being anti-Zionist. Although Israel's government has been the source of Palestinian loss for decades, (it seems to me that) even joking about supporting terrorism is enough to reinforce the persuasion that Israeli/Palestinian Jews and Palestinian Arabs must be mutually-exclusive peoples. I don't think it's fully rational per se(tho I'm not claiming to have all the relevant information myself, and I'm white US American goyim so like- grain of salt-), but I think that existential fear is the incredible hurdle facing Zionist Jews. (Idc too much about the opinions of non-Jewish Zionists bc I don't grant that they are dealing with the same emotional complications at this time, although that doesn't stop me from arguing w my acquaintances abt their callous acceptance of US/Israeli propaganda.) I just think..... isn't it overall harmful to allow anti-semitic rhetoric, even used sarcastically, to enter the genuine humanist cause for Palestinian liberation? Or, have I misunderstood, and you actually are not in opposition to Hamas, or something else I didn't think of?
hi! thank you for approaching the question thoughtfully and with curiosity, i really appreciate it. i was being kind of flippant with that meme, but this is the only ask i'm going to reply to on the matter given that i am neither jewish nor arab, so i'm going to answer in earnest:
hamas is a political resistance movement with an armed wing, much like the black panthers party was, and like the bpp, a large part of the organization is dedicated to social welfare and civic restoration.
they have stated that they are not against judaism, but against the zionist project. they openly support political solutions.
labeling hamas a terrorist group is a propaganda tactic used by the united states and israel to justify the horrors of settler colonization.
hamas is palestine, a part of it, even if palestinians like any other demographic on earth, are not a unified, single-minded people. to declare hamas a separate entity falls prey to the imperialist lie that there is an enemy to fight "fairly" within the people they are displacing and exterminating.
am i rejoicing in the deaths of israelis? of course not. killing civilians and taking civilian hostages is a war crime, whether it is committed by the opresor or the oppressed. the israeli government is not its people, and many jews, within israel as well as in the US, are bravely risking their lives to publicly dissent the criminal acts of the israeli government. all loss of human life is a tragedy.
no one should ever be faced with the choice between annihilation and murderous violence after exhausting all other forms of peaceful protest and being massacred like animals.
but why is it that we consider a resistance group formed within a population with a median age of eighteen a terrorist group, and not the IDF, a US-backed military force with an annual budget of twenty billion dollars?
i am currently reading hamas and civil society in gaza by sara roy to learn more about hamas and the history of israel in palestine. i'll remember to post more excerpts which i am admittedly terrible at.
but all of the information above can be found by reading wikipedia. investigating with duckduckgo searches (not gonna pretend google isn't prioritizing propaganda, to be fair), and reading reliable news coverage like aljazeera and the many journalists who are at risk of, or have lost their lives, reporting on the ground.
i have also appreciated reading posts from @determinate-negation @opencommunion @fairuzfan @ibtisams and @bloglikeanegyptian amongst others
in conclusion:

bouncing off of this wonderful post mentioning how zathuda expects to be the main character because he would be in many current stories, as well as my own thoughts about fearne & her family ive had for a while: i think it is interesting how fearne is representative of the different ways folk portray fae in modern media.
first off, id like to note how many fae in cr feel like they are an homage to fae stories embedded in our cultural consciousness. for example, artagan was most definitely based off of jareth in labyrinth, and his moniker of the traveler may be an homage to the fable of the satyr & the traveller. so, what is fearne?
one of the first 4-sided dives featured ashley & matt discussing how they based fearne's story off of a guillermo del toro flick - and this definitely clicked to me. morrigan, ira, & all her bizarre animal friends at morri's mansion would fit so easily into a del toro film you wouldn't even blink at them. in del toro's work (namely pan's labyrinth & hellboy 2: the golden army) faeries are fundamentally strange, offputting, & wonderfully weird. they are goblins with wagons as legs, and trolls with talking tumors, and terrifyingly skinny entities with eyes in their hands that eat children. you can practically see doug jones in an intricate suit & makeup to play ira like he did the pale man or the faun (i swear matt's hand usage as ira is an homage to jones's iconic hands in costume), see the puppet of morrigan that weighs over a ton controlled by five folk at once. del toro's work as well as matt & ashley's plays into a fae that is more complicated than a human imagines at face value, something you must work to imagine & understand (& create). something playful, integrally bound to oaths, ancient, mischievous. it is happy & natural to be gross & incomprehensible and that is part of what makes these films (as well as other bizarre puppeteered dreamscapes like the dark crystal, labyrinth) almost comforting even when sad. pan's labyrinth also features a young girl as a protagonist, ofelia, who sees these creatures as respite & destiny, who is a fae princess amidst mortal war. fearne couldn't be more ofelia if she tried. (side note - god does the scene of the pale man eating the pixies in front of ofelia feel like fearne learning what lud does to her people. someone even made a meme of it.)
on the other hand, zathuda & birdie's story is obviously based on a fae romance novel that populates shelves today - sarah j maas's or holly black's work comes to mind. zathuda is (or was - he seems a ghost of it) clearly a looker, a fierce & sexy hunter, a handsome & strong unseelie royal who somehow takes in & courts a random nobody girl, birdie. but cr notably frames the love story narrative as a classist manipulation, that leaves birdie running for the rest of her life, falling for a weirdo nobody like her over zathuda, and leaves fearne without parents that would show her this incredibly popular kind of romance as an answer. she cannot fall back on a family of kisses drawing blood, of hunter & hunted as a beautiful meet-cute, of a throne & power. she can only fall back on the strange, the grotesque, the raw. they are ugly compared to a promise of a masquerade ball or leading a wild hunt, what folk expect of fae in a barnes & noble book haul - but they promise a safety in the outcast. because a guillermo del toro film will always fundamentally be about the human condition. "monsters are the patron saints of our blissful imperfections." every monster in his stories is a person as much as you or me is.
fearne was born of a fae romance novel but raised in a puppeteer-and-vfx fairytale film. she holds not only exandria's fate in her hands, but the feywild's, too. fae see themselves as higher beings while squabbling in courts as much as mortals do. they refuse to accept their chaos and try to maintain order & royalty with courts and bloodlines against each other. try to keep fae out of exandria because they cant know they are alike to their mortal counterparts. they cant be wild like a party of puppets at the end of labyrinth dancing with the human girl sarah. they wish to be as mysterious as if they lived in a ya dystopia. and it is clearly leaving them worse. fearne is the literal unity of all the ways fae are potrayed in a modern landscape. what will that mean for her and her home in the end?

Hey hey, MIles gets jealous a lot in this movie, buuuuuut what if we talk about Gwen? 👀
Oh ho ho, I know there has been memes and stuff about that, but sure, let's talk about it.
Tumblr media
I know we all mentioned jealousy coming from Miles, but I think is kind of poetic, but also hilarious, how quickly we go from Miles's jealousy to Gwen's.
Specially if we go with the fact that once again, while Gwen doesn't really own any explanations to Miles here, nor has she done anything wrong by being friends with Hobie.
(Also look at Hobie, I want you to remember that. Also he is amazing so he deserves the extra attention.)
Yet what is her reaction?
Tumblr media
"Oh, not that many."
I swear, I am trying not to laugh.
See what I mean? Gwen is not only aware that Miles is jealous, she is still is trying to downplay it; even when she is convinced they can't work, she doesn't want Miles to misunderstand her feelings; which she has tried to hide, but I think at this point she knows she isn't doing a good job at it.
(The entire clock scene was very close to a confession let's be honest.)
Also, about Hobie, remember how I was bringing attention to him in the first image? Yeah I am still not sure what to do with it.
Let me be honest with you guys, to get these images I do a lot of slow-motion, which also helps to let certain frames sink better and be sure that I am not just making up what I am seeing; since a lot of these moments are things that last seconds. Very blink-it and you miss it.
And while looking at this particular part, I realized Hobie's expression when he was still were...interesting.
Look part of the reason looking at frames matter in animation is because in real life; an actor could had looked at one direction because he saw a crew member do a funny face, but in animation, when you need to recreate the scene for scratch and will probably be staring at this scene a lot to ensure is up to standard, things tend to have a bit more meaning.
That being said, if you look the scene to normal speed, is extremely fast. Maybe too much for the animators to intend for us to notice something.
So what I am trying to say is that I wonder if Hobie is purposely setting Miles off, and if he is doing so, I honestly think is just to mess with them a little.
Moving on!
Tumblr media
If I am honest, you could almost believe Gwen just wants to move on because Miguel is waiting for them and the guy is already aggro, that was my first impression at least, until I re watched and realized that they are just seeing a demonstration before going to Miguel, so they are 1) Really giving Miles a tour, and 2) Stalling. Which doesn't match going straight to the boss.
Also Gwen's voice; the first time I saw this I remember being surprised that Gwen was asking to start moving because before this point she didn't seem to be worried. Her tone definitely sounds a bit exasperated, specially considering again how little they actually seem to care to get to Miguel.
So yeah, Gwen DEFINITELY was asking to keep moving because Miles' was attention was too much in somebody.
Let's rewind a bit because let's face it, I don't blame Gwen for being jealous.
Tumblr media
I wish my computer had a way to render a little video without imploding because oh this takes a hot second and yep Miles definitely was looking at Margo a little awestruck.
Let me preface this saying I will not tolerate any Hate to Margo or to Flowerbyte or the shippers. She is great, and I will not tolerate ship wars here.
That being said, Miles definitely is looking a little too much at Margo; I partially thing Miles was a bit shocked because it has been a while since his spider sense got receptive to other spider (which happened a lot in the first movie, not so much in this one for meeting so many spiders.)
But again, I don't think is crazy to say she caught his attention.
No, I don't think Miles is doing anything wrong here, just like Gwen didn't do anything wrong before. They aren't dating, Gwen tried to shut that down, and is not like Miles is trying to upset Gwen or anything. He was just caught off-guard.
Regardless, just like I cannot blame Miles for being jealous of Hobie, I can't blame Gwen for being jealous of Margo.
She hides it better than Miles for sure, but like everything else she does, it comes back to the details and her actions.
Remember, they aren't particularly in a hurry, and she suddenly sounds exasperated out of nowhere. Hmm.
Now, the next moment is very blink and you miss it, I barely had the chance to notice while going in slow motion, but between Gwen telling Miles to move on, and Miles looking at Margo's avatar, this is Gwen's face.
Tumblr media
Is very fast, probably the type of thing you don't pick up in theatres, but damn, I am cackling.
I guess she really wasn't expecting Margo to get such reaction out of Miles.
This a good moment to say, that while looking at this, you can see Gwen doesn't have any ill-will towards Margo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unlike the previous moment, this expression of her stays for a good moment; I remember that upon first stumbling with the confirmation that Gwen is jealous of Margo, I was shocked to see that expression on her, almost like she herself remembered that Margo situation is far from perfect.
I am SO thankful with the creators for making sure that neither from Miles nor Gwen, we get the plot line of one of them being jerks out of jealousy. Yeah Miles briefly tried to be spiteful towards Hobie, but didn't take long too change his tune, not to mention that Hobie really didn't mind.
And Gwen at any moment is shown to be bitter towards Margo, regardless if Miles was doing puppy eyes at her or not.
Tumblr media
I just realized now, that Gwen is actually the first one to say they should go.
I really believe part of this was because the go-home-machine was looking a bit perverse. Even Margo looks a bit unsure of what to do of this, so it makes me wonder if is normal for it to look this painful.
(Sidenote, considering Miles and Gwen looked okay when they got out from this machine, I think Rhino was in pain because he was glitching at that moment. That would explain Margo looking like this if it was "normal.")
It doesn't escape me that Miles' reaction is the most shock one, no idea if Gwen could had picked on that being behind Miles, but maybe she realized Miles didn't particularly enjoy seeing that.
However, what happens next?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And here, I can only show it properly with this gif.
Tumblr media
I want also to reiterate, that "Let's go!" Was from Hobie, I think he was trying to warn Miles.
Because Gwen didn't repeat herself, she deadass just sent a web and YANK HIM.
Again, wanting to go see Miguel my ass, you guys didn't seem particularly interested on that before. Not to mention that hey, you can see she isn't asking anymore and considering how she was looking at Miles from behind I don't think is because she doesn't want to be late.
Is a bit too small to take a proper capture, and hard to see, but yep, she looks mad.
I love how Margo laughs after this, like sure, Miles is endearing, but I also bet my left kidney she also clocked Gwen's crush extremely quickly because of this.
I almost expect Margo and Pavitr discuss who is crushing harder in the sequel.
Sorry for making this so freaking long and with so many sideways, but I think I needed to point out a few things, hope didn't bored anyone!
Keep suggesting moments!

I am haunted by Miko/Tarn.
I have a very specific AU for this pairing. A combination between that soulmate ask and this Other ask where the kids are dealing with post everything, including their heritage.
The Primal Artifact is Quintus' Emberstone that cyberformed the young adult trio into full-framed Cybertronians.
Each of them eerie in their own way...
Jack is definitely something bird-related. Dark frame and dark wings, glossy raven-black, a face as pale as a moon, and blue optics with a grey cast. Has an armored coat.
Raf has his draconian heritage on display. Bulky and overlapping segments of plating. He's sharp. Angles and spikes on his broad frame. More reptilian features.
Miko is a War-Forged Seeker. She's not a small nor sleek femme. Way too much teeth with optics that remind her of her yōkai ancestress.
Because Miko's bloodlust and frenzied states grew exponentially with her new form that actually began to turn her into a liability on the field. Ratchet can't keep up with her brute force and savage style, so-
Here comes June Darby, who makes a deal with Soundwave inside the Shadowzone.
Who better to help a War-Forged Seeker who was once a human with seablood than the very mech that tied with the Champion of Kaon.
The Nakadai family still have cultural practices and beliefs that stem from the sea. Unlike the red string of fate, they have something that's considered far more intimate.
Soulsong or Dreamsong. A harmony from another that is compatible with your very essence.
Miko has one. She dreamt of it. Over and over. It was one of the first things she learned how to play on piano.
The Empyrean Suite.
Of course, the Decepticon Justice Division makes it way to Earth. Not only is it the last stand of High Command, but Tarn can actually get a proper location of his fated bondmate. What was once a whisper to muffled broken note is now a blazing presence.
The vibe I'm going for is that Meg Boggs meme:
Miko: "I don't want to be strong like man who look ✨️ pretty ✨️. I want to be strong like bitch that fights bears in the forest!"
Tarn: "She's thinks I'm pretty."
______
Miko's increasingly worrisome measures to put Tarn off, including playing more into her more ghastly yōkai traits, but it just endears him even more because he's an obsessive freak.
Tarn: "She's beauty. She's grace. She will rearrange a face."
(Everyone else watching Miko rip apart a carcass with her jaw strength and many serrated teeth, trying to be as gross and gorey as possible.)
Jack and Raf: What a fucking simp!
______
Soundwave's and Ratchet's attempts to stay busy and disappearing acts because Miko wants to shake them down on what's sexy versus hideous to their species.
Ratchet is a Medical-caste (middle-to-upper) Autobot has no idea how to help her, an ex-human turned morbid Seeker femme. Not with the backward 'con culture of territoriality and savagery, but he doesn't want to be the one who breaks it to Miko that fated bondmates and Resonants are a huge cultural phenomena across Cybertron.
Soundwave has been a major pillar of the Decepticon movement and complied Tarn's dossier, including his neuroses... Soundwave doesn't need telepathy to know it's a lost cause because Tarn gets interested, he becomes obsessed.
______
Running joke that Tarn finally got pegged, and it's by a wild animal. A magic, demon fish. Not Megatron.

Interesting that h*r*t*g*p*sts is so fixated on Hamas captives being subjected to annoying children's music. I already touched on this, but while continuously playing music in order to psychologically break someone has been a documented method of torture in interrogation, and I don't mean to downplay that (even though one might debate whether its intended to be psychological torture or merely trolling, but I digress)...
It's very weird to constantly bray about that all the while saying nothing of the freed hostages who said "Yes we were tortured, there are still people being tortured," and saying nothing about the 1st person documentary footage so generously filmed by Hamas as they tortured and raped countless people before summarily executing them.
This need to invert crimes against Israelis/Jews and to frame these Israeli crimes as inherently worse, inherently more immoral, inherently more mortifying... it's notable and it's not unexpected and it's part of a pattern. Part of it feels like gaslighting. Like I'm being subjected to someone breaking into my house and demanding I admit that hearing the Teletubbies theme on loop is the ultimate crime against humanity. But rape is apparently not now. Oh okay then.
Like sorry that just doesn't register quite as inhumanely cruel to me as... raping someone so hard her pelvis shatters, cutting off someone's breasts while she's still alive, making a man watch his girlfriend be brutalized by dozens of men before shooting both of them in the head... I won't go on.
Taking it at the best faith interpretation, you can condemn both you know. You can condemn Hamas' war rape, their brutality, their disregard for civilian vs military targets. You can also say the Israeli military and public making a meme out of humiliating people who've also usually been stripped naked is pretty gauche too. You can say that's a tactic of oppressing people who are just struggling for their liberation, sure. But you can't say that and literally pretend like the other just doesn't exist, or worse, isn't relevant. That's intellectual dishonesty of the most blatant kind.
