Lost: The Minecraft Server

AKA Lost doesn't happen, "The Island" is just the survival server these guys play on. 

Jack is the guy who tries to organize the server and hopelessly fails. I cannot emphasize this enough, Jack is not good at Minecraft. He doesn't even really enjoy it. He's just playing out of obligation to the server owner Jacob who dragged him in as a mod.

Locke is the guy who goes off to defeat the Ender Dragon alone and reads the whole end poem weeping. He disappears for extremely long stretches of time. Sometimes, he's mining, and sometimes, he comes back with an elder guardian head.

Sawyer just griefs at first… But then he realizes he enjoys Minecraft more than he’d like to admit. And what’s more? He loves the thrill of fighting mobs more than griefing. He begrudgingly becomes the protector of spawn/new members.

Everything Kate holds dear fits in her ender chest. Her idea of a house is a two-block-high hideaway carved into the side of a mountain. She initially isn’t invested in the game, either… until she gets emotionally attached to her horse.

Sayid used to be a part of an anarchy server and quit the game for a while. He normally just messes around in creative mode, but after getting dragged into playing on the server, he makes redstone farms. An Ethoslab-type.

Jin fishes for hours at a time. No autoclicker or anything. He finds it relaxing. Sun's the farmer and makes endless fields of wheat. The two of them like Minecraft more because they're playing together rather than the actual game mechanics. They eventually leave the server to play Stardew Valley, instead.

Shannon is initially a builder/griefer—she'll terraform other people's builds to make her own stuff, and then be like "oh i thought you abandoned that house, sorry xoxo."

Charlie and Claire are both builders who make cute little houses in the flower forest together. Charlie is super into Minecraft and gets Claire into it by proxy.

Michael is originally the person who builds infrastructure around spawn. He’s not particularly into it—he plays to connect with Walter, who’s a huge fan of Minecraft YouTube. Specifically Mumbo Jumbo. After Michael leaves the server, Jack attempts to take over his responsibilities and fails miserably.

Hurley is not good at building, but he'll drop off gifts in front of people's bases and build them the most atrocious looking wool statues you've ever seen (like the YouTuber Skizzleman). He’s one of the OG Minecraft fans of the bunch.

Desmond logs onto the server accidentally. Honestly, he’s not even sure how he got here. The concept of video games baffles him. There’s a solid three weeks where he glitches into bedrock—Locke finds him on a mining expedition and saves him.

Penny isn't whitelisted on the server, either; Desmond fights to get her added.

Ben does not place or break a single block. He just steals from people’s chests. He gets the Diamonds! achievement before Stone Age.

Juliet is one of the best builders of the bunch. She and Sawyer create a hidden base in the Nether that they live in together.

The server owner Jacob will sometimes build bedrock obelisks. Genuinely for no reason. Just because.

Richard is a mod in creative mode. He breaks said obelisks.

#148 El Regreso de Mary Poppins (2018)

Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) llega otra vez a la vida de la familia Banks en el momento preciso, Michael (Ben Whishaw) y Jane (Emily Mortimer) Banks, siguen unidos como hermanos, sobre todo, cuando Michael pierde a su esposa un año antes y se queda solo con sus tres hijos: Georgie, Annabel y John. Los hermanos Banks van a perder su casa familiar por retrasarse en el pago de la hipoteca y que ahora el banco está más interesado en quedarse la casa que en que los hermanos Banks puedan pagar.

Las aventuras continúan en la vida de los niños, donde Mary consigue que las cosas tediosas del día sean unos momentos inolvidables que forme parte de la mente de los niños de por años, pero tal y como ella dice, hasta que se hagan mayores, porque los adultos lo olvidan todo.

Los hermanos Banks buscan los papeles que atribuyan, que poseen letras del banco de alto valor en el banco y podrán pagar la deuda directa sobre la casa, pero pese a que la buscan por todos lados, encontrando recuerdos valiosos, haciendo las aventuras más memorables.

Gracias a Mary, los niños viven su infancia de forma plena, y mientras Michael y Jane pueden poner la casa patas arriba para poder salvar su casa familiar, y aunque les dan hasta el viernes a media noche, les resulta imposible hacerse cargo de los pagos.

En sus aventuras van a ver a la prima de Mary, Topsy (Meryl Streep) que se muestra amable y dispuesta a ayudarles.

Georgie, el hijo menor, encuentra una vieja cometa y unos dibujos antiguos de su padre, y decide usar ese dibujo para arreglar la cometa antigua de su padre. Michael, abrumado, se encuentra en la misma circunstancias que su padre años atrás, dándose cuenta de que sus hijos le molestan y le hacen perder los nervios y no se reconoce. Por eso, cuando se alegra de que Georgie haya arreglado la cometa, se da cuenta de que el dibujo estaba dibujado encima de los papeles que buscaban.

Buscan a William para poder saldar su deuda en el banco, pero lo cierto es que como no está interesado en que recuperen su casa, hace todas las triquiñuelas posibles para que pierdan y casi lo logra si no llega a ser por el tio de William, que vuelve a su puesto, Sr. Dawes Jr (Dick Van Dyke)

Los Banks recuperan su casa, gracias al Sr. Dawes y su amabilidad, y el recuerdo de las dos libras que Michael guardó en una cuenta que da por saldada el crédito sobre la casa. Por lo que todo acaba bien, todos son felices, y Mary Poppins tiene que volver a desaparecer, prometiendo volver.

Welcome to my newest AU: Lost but everyone who ever stepped foot on the island has some type of usable magic power from that moment on. Rules for this is every power has a drawback and it only activates at a critical moment to their character arc. Here's what powers I assigned them:

Jack Shephard: Can heal people using his own life force. He can only give up to 50% of his own life force to do this, if the injury can't be healed by that, he can't save a person. Jack's power doesn't activate until way into Season 6 because he didn't have faith in the island.

Kate Austen: Has the same power as Blake Belladonna in RWBY. Both are characters who are established as people on the run because of their past. Their powers reflect that. Whenever Kate is attacked, if she reacts fast enough, she can leave behind a shadow of herself to take the hit for her.

James "Sawyer" Ford: The angrier he gets, the more damage his punches do. On the other hand, if he gets genuinely sad and devastated, his physical abilities are significantly stunted and damage is almost non-existent.

Charlie Pace: Can focus on a person and play or sing a song that reflects their true nature. This can be used to gather information about them. He can only do this once per person.

Claire Littleton: She can sense danger, even when there otherwise isn't any indication of it.

Hugo "Hurley" Reyes: Can speak to the dead. Activates off-island.

Sun-Hwa Kwon: Can accelerate the growth of plants and the natural healing process of animals and people. She has to know and understand the species to do this.

Jin-Soo Kwon: Can communicate with the ocean to go with the "son of a fisherman" theme. If his head is underwater the ocean tries to kill him tho.

John Locke: Is the only one who doesn't have a power. He's like Mirabel Madrigal. He's deeply important to the story but he has 0 magic. He himself and other characters throughout the story think that he does during varying points of time but it's always the MiB messing with him. He realizes this at the end. Can you tell I like angst yet?

Michael Dawson: Can create a magic shield using his own stamina. Shield disappears when his stamina runs out.

Walter "Walt" Lloyd: Astral Projection. Self-explanatory.

Vincent: Ages normally and can die of old age but is otherwise virtually indestructible. Usually animals don't get any powers but Vincent's was given to him by Jacob directly to assist the survivors.

Sayid Jarrah: Can burn a person with his touch when he wants to. Doing this inflicts an equal amount of emotional pain to him as the physical pain he causes. I like angst.

Shannon Rutherford: Can master any skill within 30 minutes if she puts her mind to it. Never figures this out because she has been told that she's useless all her life and believes it. Only uses this once when she translates French but thinks those are lucky guesses.

Boone Carlyle: Blood-bending. Mostly gave this to him because everytime he angrily stares at someone you can tell that his blood is boiling. Never uses this once during his lifetime though.

Rose Henderson Nadler & Bernard Nadler: Have a soul link with one another. They can always tell how the other is feeling and neither of them can die while the other still lives as long as they're on good terms. Virtually indestructible unless you kill them at the exact same time but why the fuck would you.

Ana Lucia Cortez: Pyromancy. Fits her vibe. Also bound to stamina.

Elizabeth "Libby" Smith: Can read people's emotions.

Mr. Eko: Precognition. Can tell what he needs to do when and can anticipate things a couple seconds before they happen.

Benjamin Linus: Everytime he lies (to convince someone of his lie, sarcasm not included), it slightly alters reality in an unexpected way to make his lie appear like the truth. This is how Anthony Cooper gets to the island after Ben tells John about the magic box. The result of his lies is always unexpected and can backfire. He can't make something specific happen intentionally. His power activated during the purge.

Juliet Burke: Ice-bending. This has nothing to do with her character but I've previously seen Elizabeth Mitchell in Once Upon A Time and The Santa Clause and both times she plays a character that has something to do with winter. Also bound to stamina.

Ethan Rom: Superhuman strength. Self-explanatory. It actually takes multiple shots from 6 guns to take him down in this AU.

Harper Stanhope: Can see people's time of death over their head. Was very confused that Juliet's said 1977 and Ben's was way past his normal life expectancy.

Goodwin Stanhope: Idk what his power is but it's certainly not danger sense. 💀

Roger Linus: Can sense fear. Terrible power for a terrible man. I love Ben, I promise. I also love angst tho. The moment Ben killed him was the only time he didn't sense any fear from him, which scared the shit out of him.

Desmond David Hume: Activates his power after the events of "The Constant". Can see glimpses of people's past and future upon touching them. Can only do this once per person.

Frank Lapidus: Always lands safe. Literally always lands on his feet like a cat. Also applies to planes / helicopters he flies.

Charlotte Staples Lewis: Can speak any language after hearing it spoken once. Growing up with this was very confusing off-island.

Miles Straume: Reading the final thoughts of the dead. Self-explanatory.

Daniel Faraday: Stopping time for up to an hour. After using this power, he can't use it for 24 times the amount of time he stopped time for. Only can use it in present time.

Illana Verdansky: Able to tell when people lie.

Danielle Rousseau: Her bullet or arrow always hits the target unless the target specifically blocks it.

Alexandra Rousseau: Can make herself invisible. Used for stealth.

Karl Martin: Can accelerate his speed. Bound to stamina.

Mikhail Bakunin: Telepathy.

Eloise Hawking: Chain Reaction. Once a day for 5 minutes she can see the effects of every action of hers she thinks about.

Charles Widmore: Can take a glimpse at people's destiny. Only can do this once per person.

Richard Alpert: Can't be killed by anything ever. Can't even die of natural causes. Can't die.

She stared at the plate of canapés. A thousand tiny suspicious breadcrumbed mysteries, speared with cocktail sticks. What was it about office gatherings that seemed to warrant this kind of awkward, unappealing food?

She hugged her paper plate and tried to move down the line, but something sticky caught on her shoe and yanked her back. Her arm brushed loudly against the cheap paper tablecloth and a few people turned to look. Elvis lamented from the stereo.

This was awful. She hated these painful social mores. But since she was new to the division she figured she had to grin and bear it. Show willing. Smile for the camera.

And right on cue, there was that flash again. Now there was proof she had come, great. Everlasting, irrefutable evidence that Dana Scully was at an office Christmas party, sticking to the floor, an empty plate in hand, wishing she was at home feeling smug for not succumbing to this ritual, this kiss-ass dance.

Skinner tapped her on the shoulder.

“I’m glad you came, Agent Scully.” He popped a cheese ball in his mouth.

She pursed her lips, finally peeling her shoe from the floor.

“Your partner should be along soon.” He frowned and checked his watch. “I mean, he said he was coming.”

Scully raised her brows and nodded. What’s his excuse, she thought. She glanced around the room. Paper chains hung broken from the ceiling, sweeping the floor of debris, picking up dust, booze and remnants of the entrees she had been eyeing moments before.

She spotted a breadcrumb husk under the table. Somewhere around here was the corresponding naked prawn, chicken piece or whatever it was, alone and exposed. Kind of how she felt right now.

Just then, the door swung open.

“Here he is!” grinned Skinner.

Scully lazily turned her head to see Dawson saunter in. He held up a hand in greeting.

This can only get worse from here, she thought. She had only been working at the bureau for three weeks, but her senses already told her this guy was crushing on her, hard.

Sure enough, he made a bee-line for them.

“Agent Dawson,” she chimed.

He held out a hand, brushing his wave of beach-blond hair back with the other. He was wearing a pretentious pair of ridiculously snug denim jeans, coupled with a loose khaki shirt, the top button questionably left undone. He reeked of high school grade cologne.

Scully met his hand, holding her breath. The less of that pond water that makes it up my nose, the better, she thought.

Scully herself was wearing a sleeveless, fitted black number, trying for the dressy but still very much formal and unobtainable vibe, lest he think this was an easy win.

“You made it,” he said, eyeing her silhouette.

Just then, a rat pack of younger agents appeared behind Dawson, the frontrunner slapping him on the shoulder.

Scully took her chance and excused herself. If she was going to get through this she needed a stiff drink.

The bar was crowded. She surveyed the sea of gaggling office idiots, tracing her eyes from left to right, when they stopped sharp on the bartender. Something about him mesmerised her. He cruised the length of the bar with grace, deftly moving between each punter with such a casual, confident ease. He wore a crisp black shirt that was somehow impervious to his swift movements as he effortlessly poured, served and collected his dues.

Her eyes moved up to his face. He wore a calm but focused expression, the corners of his mouth curving upwards enough to be the start of a smile, but nothing surer than that.

He paused briefly to drop some coins in a tip jar. He looked up from the bar, straight at Scully.

She gasped as he caught her eye. His hand reached for a nearby whisky bottle and he slowly poured a measure for the next customer, his eyes still fixed on hers.

She swallowed.

Suddenly the row of people cleared, and she found herself standing right in front of him.

Would love to hear about the books u read in 2024, surprise bests, biggest disappointments?

I think I will do a multi part post over the coming weeks with reviews of all the books I read since I have about half of them written up already. For now I'll just say my two absolute favourite reads of the year were Botanical Daughter by Noah Medlock and Monstrilio by Gerardo Sámano Córdova. Two very different books but both of them permanently altered my brain chemistry.
