So this is my playable dude in the save I started the other day. If memory serves, he was a game-generated NPC sim from another save that I edited a bit, liked, and saved a copy to my sim library. Whatever the case, he was in this game folder's library, and because I'm lazy af, I just grabbed him, plonked him down in one of the one-bedroom houses in a copy of my WIP Meadow Glen edit and then set his cash-on-hand to $0.

His name is Cameron and he's an Ambitious an Neurotic but Good Supernatural Fan with a Photographer's Eye. He wants to be "Leader of the Free World," but for now he's cash-poor until he manages to successfully interview for a job in Politics. I have no idea what I'm doing with this save overall -- Legacy sort of thing? Just fucking around? Yeah, probably just fucking around-- so for now he spends a lot of time...

He consigns whatever he finds that he can't use, which for now is his only source of income. When he gets some skills, he can start checking for work in rabbitholes to add to his income, but for now dumpster diving is what he has and probably what he'll have for a while. Because he probably won't get into the Politics career on his first attempt...

davrin and rye ingellvar's dynamic continues to be unmatched. davrin invites rook along on the training trip with assan in arlathan forest as a sort of extended hand of peace because they've been getting off on the wrong foot a little bit (rook is gamely like HELL YEAH sounds fun! :) while sweating nervously), and then davrin spends the whole walk squinting at rook -- prancing around in his fancy little mourn watch silk robes getting caught on thorns, gawking at common plants and critters like he's never seen them before, stumbling over roots and laughing awkwardly about it even though davrin hasn't even said anything -- like 'who the fuck is this weird indoor kid, how have they survived this long, and more importantly why are we trusting them to save the world'. all while rook is going 'goddd I'm looking so dumb in front of the cool kid and he already questions every second thing I say or do this sucks'. but. they are both trying, and will keep trying. and this is what matters

Thanks to @edennill, whose musings sent me on a walk that resulted in a chance meeting with this etymological fact:

The words "prodigy" and "prodigal" are not related.

As someone who had been a "gifted child", I just— a huge part of my life had been a lie. [Details of the etymologies below cut]

Prodigy: From Middle English prodige (“portent”), from Latin prōdigium (“omen, portent, prophetic sign”). From prō- (prefix denoting a forward direction, something before or prior, or prominence) +‎ aiō (“to say, speak”) +‎ -ium (suffix forming abstract nouns); compare and contrast with adagiō, later adagium, more likely of different formation.

Prodigal: From Middle French prodigal, from Late Latin prōdigālis (“wasteful”), from Latin prōdigus (“wasteful, lavish, prodigal”), from prōdigō (“to consume, squander, drive forth”), from prōd- [from prō (“before, forward”)] + agō (“to drive”).

The only common thing between them is prō-, which is a prefix present in a lot of unrelated words.

Maybe I did this to myself but it does irk me when people see me knitting and they ask who it’s for and I say it’s for me and the immediate reaction is “you should sell it” yeah… let me spend at least a week’s worth of my free time making an item I like, want, and would wear just to sell it on etsy, making at most a £2 profit on materials and not being compensated for my time whatsoever 👍🏻
