Can i get a wahoo? Cause 1 month and 16 days later and I am officially done with the first chapter of my fanfiction! Now I have done something else for a few hours and I am sleepy it is time to go to bed and start editing tomorrow! There is a lot of it I need to reread through, and hopefully add onto the little over 5k words, but it is 'done' and i am immensely proud of myself.

HYPERSOMNIA JANUARY DEV LOG : "LOG 1, WOOHOO!"

Hi! For all of you who follow HYPERSOMNIA, or are just stopping by, let me introduce you to this post to really set the tone.

For 2024, I am going to try to release a dev log about HYPERSOMNIA once a month, may come earlier, may come a little late, but I'm doing this to help give insight on to how the game is going, and to give me motivation to work on the game.

First things first, big news!

HYPERSOMNIA IS NOW AVAILABLE TO WISHLIST ON STEAM! (LINK)

After a while of back and forwarding with Valve, I've finally got a Steam page to call my own, and MAN is it bizarre seeing my weird little RPG in my Steam library. Like, that's my logo, and my key art, and screenshots of MY game, that's so weird. It doesn't feel real. BUT IT IS!

And, I would really really really really really appreciate it if you would consider wishlisting the game on Steam. It helps with the algorithm, and my happiness because I like seeing numbers go up, it feels good.

I even drew this as a announcement/commemoration for the page going live.

(P.S; if you couldn't tell, I really like Half-Life, it's one of my favorite game series.)

Secondly...

A new trailer is in the works! We were accepted for this year's MOTHER Direct (4th time baby, whoo!)

The trailer has been coming along well, I hope to show more battle oriented clips that I've missed the last few years, like special moves.

Can you believe I've never actually gotten to adding those in the game? I mean, they come set-up in default RPG Maker projects but I've never gotten around to revamping them until now, year 4 of engine work. Isn't that strange?

I also hope to improve on editing in the trailers. Whenever I finish a trailer I come back a few months later to notice minor points where I was kinda sloppy.

I'm not much of a video editor, (I only learned so I could edit trailers on my own) but I'd like to keep them at a good presentable quality. You gotta have standards with that kinda stuff, it's important!

OK, TIME FOR THE ACTUAL GAME STUFF. HERE WE GO.

Abilities are now implemented! And work! Wahoo!

In HYPERSOMNIA, players are able to switch abilities between party members. I find this a really interesting mechanic for how simple it seems, you get to choose who plays what role in your party. I think this is HUGE, and opens up a lot of unique scenarios for the game's encounters. I've had this planned for years, as far back as 2021 if I can recall, so it's super cool seeing it in game.

Mapping is being worked on!

I've also been working on mapping out more areas of the game! The forest part you hopefully saw in the last trailer is almost completely mapped. I've been working on the second part to it and am hoping to finish it sometime soon.

Mapping forests really suck. THOUGH, almost all the maps for the first chapter of the game are done! That's just another step closer to the demo. (Which, FYI, will be on Steam and Itch! ^^)

I've also been working on re-spriting older scenes!

This one's been really fun to do, I've been going back and redoing older stuff from the 2022 trailer, like this train! It's weird seeing it side by side, because you can definitely see where it's come from but at the same time, it looks so different.

(Also side note, these sprites are CRUSTY! EWWW!)

Lastly, Script and Music updates!

The script for HYPERSOMNIA's first act has been completed! with just 37 pages of just cutscene dialog alone! We're also currently working on wrapping up NPC dialog! Not much else to say.

And music is being worked on!

Music has been making some progress! I like to lay out demo's for areas I'm mapping out to help make both the music and scene come together. (Also, to help break up the eerie silence when playtesting...)

Speaking of music, FIREBALL, the games main battle theme, was recently delisted on our YouTube channel.

We did this because we decided we wanted to resample FIREBALL, and found that it's best to not have the song uploaded until a complete, final version is made. At least for the demo, it could possibly change before the final game but that's a bit too far in the future for me to think about fully.

Hi dear friends,

The "extras" screen for TSL has a new look!✨

Yay! I love extras pages so much. After I unlock a new cg in a game I always have to check the gallery right away... And now there's achievements to see too!

Speaking of.

Wahoo...! I'm happy to report all the achievements for Chapter 1 and 2 are written and programmed into the script! I used Feniks Achievement Page as the base code, which was very easy to use and edit. I still want to fiddle with the notification that pops up when you unlock an achievement, but I'm relieved the bulk of the work is done with.

Still working on a bunch of other things that I can't yet share (soon!!), but...

2023 Art Roundup

JAN - FEB - MAR - APR - MAY - JUN - JUL - AUG - SEP - OCT - NOV - DEC

(These aren’t entirely indicative of when I posted them, but when I actually finished them.)

These are some of my biggest/favorite projects through each month!

Piece details + Mod-posting below!

JAN - Asteía ; This was one of my first projects of the year that dealt with lighting, and additionally light from multiple sources! I also remember experimenting with backgrounds and how to make a character pop against a semi-detailed background without making them get lost in the piece.

FEB - Mora and Ego ; This was a good project on figuring out how to fill empty space while still keeping the atmosphere of a piece. It was also good perspective practice!

MAR - Sanguine and Ego ; Though I’m no longer too happy with the proportions or lighting of this piece, I still remember having a blast with it. Hearing feedback about them holding hands and Sanguine’s ear getting squished are very fun memories for me.

APR - Miraak and Ego ; This might be my favorite project of the whole year! Though I know I can do backgrounds better now, I remember being pretty confident and happy during the whole process! I think the motion/lighting/effects all came out very well :] ALSO it was the first piece I did with expressive masks for Miraak and Ego! Wahoo!

MAY - Mora and Ego (again) ; Though the last one was my personal favorite, I heard from a couple of friends that THIS was their favorite. Though a pain in the ASS to do, I’m especially happy with all the texture effects. This was also me experimenting with Mora’s design!

JUN - Erandur ; Not a particularly complicated/difficult piece, but one that was simply pure fun. Had a blast with lighting effects and atmosphere. It was also a good break from the family trip I was taking at the same time ,:]

JUL - Dagon ; Specifically his revamp! This was my first successful attempt at a (very) muscular body type that I liked! In fact, over the course of the year I’ve been pretty proud of my progress of expanding on body types. This one especially, though, was just very fun!

AUG - Iren and Rakell ; My first dive into a colored + shaded animatic (animation? It’s awful choppy lol)! FAR from perfect, but I was (and still am) so happy with the outcome. I particularly remember enjoying figuring out lines of movement and sound effects for the video.

SEP - Sanguine ; My first (and still only, though hopefully not for long) attempt at making Sanguine intimidating. I think this one is going in the right direction! As far as effects go, I actually had a very tough time with things because of a few layer-merging mishaps, but the final product was well-received!

OCT - The Warden ; After many-a night on Minecraft with friends, I realized just how much I loved the warden, and HAD to draw them. Redesigning characters is one of my absolute favorite things to do, especially when taking minimal details and expanding on them! They were super fun all around.

NOV - Miraak, Serana, Ego, and Ancano ; I’d been meaning to draw the siblings being siblings for a while now, but putting them all on one canvas was more than a little intimidating. I was so happy to have it done, though, and I kinda love seeing their colors clash together.

DEC - Sanguine (again) ; After not drawing him for so long, it was a blast doing so. The moment I was back home for winter break, I was ECSTATIC to get to work on this piece. #1 blorbo

This year has been an absolute ride.

I became a mod and then co-owner of the TES server that got me into making TDI and have made some really tight friendships over there (genuinely, anyone reading this who is/was in the cult server, I’m so damn happy to know you).

I’ve done some intense progress on TDI, and even though I didn’t QUITE accomplish my New Years Resolution of posting Ch. 1 this year, hopefully you can understand the drawbacks considering I am… //checks notes/// 70+ chapters in and still going.

I’m in college! Have been for a hot second now, but I’ve been working towards a ministry degree, and have future plans of getting a PhD after my bachelor’s so I can teach at a college level! I don’t think I talk a lot about my irl happenings, but hopefully that gives you an idea of why I might be a liiittle busy when it comes to writing. Ministry is an unforgiving degree when it comes to papers and meetings.

As earlier mentioned, I’ve learned how to do different body types, and am trying to find a good balance between shape language and inclusivity when it comes to bodies! I am… still struggling with feminine anatomy! Admittedly! But I’m willing to keep trying ,:]

And, overall, I (certainly hope I have) improved on my art. I have a much better sense of face shapes, line weights, and consistent details than I did at the beginning of the year. Always learning, but always improving, too!

painter of the night (manhwa): god. I wish I dnf'ed this but the hype was so high I held out hope. the art, atmosphere and general dreamy joseon vibes are 10/10 no notes but the STORY....the CHARACTERS...bruh if this had a decent story with well written characters. we could've had it all. THE PREMISE IS INTERESTING TOO...like idk maybe I'm being too mean and just projecting my personal likes on this but the story could've been so much more interesting if nakyum wasn't written Like That. idk man. I'm a hater.

how to refuse the route (manhwa): THIS ONE BROKE MY HEART. IT LITERALLY STARTED OFF SO STRONG AND I THOUGHT THE LATER CHAPTERS WERE BUILDING UP TO SOMETHING, BUT!!!!!!!! THEY RUSHED THE ENDING. the ending was like "ok lalalala he got over his issues he actually likes ilya they got married wahoo!!!" NO. U GOTTA EARN THAT SHIT. U CANT JUST SELL ME THIS HANDWAVEY SHIT AND EXPECT ME TO BUY IT. I thought there'd be at least another season fleshing out the consequences of ilya being able to see the system, Jerry realizing he needs to stop thinking about this as a game, also the thing about his mana leaking out??? sooooooo many loose threads...NONE tied up....I'm so bitter.

why ophelia couldn't leave (manhwa): SO many ppl were like "ooooh they're both red flags oooooh they're manipulating each other" gurl did we read the same manhwa....like in the beginning it was true and I was like "ohohohoho" rubbing my hands but then they got together. and it went POOF....I guess I was expecting it to be more toxic but it honestly lowkey got boring for me. also the ML wasn't even that manipulative he just has a 1 track mind that was honestly very bland to me. I was expecting spice...and I got...bread...

red limit (manhwa): I will FOREVER be bitter about this one. misunderstanding trope my beloathed...and it wasn't even done well. like it was the most hamfisted, clunky and awkward conflict that they stuck in near the end just for the sake of angst. like im sure there are a myriad of diff ways they could've done something like this. I'm so surprised it took such a big nosedive bc the rest of the manhwa was so beautifully written with maturity and care....wha happuh....did the writer pass it off to someone else to write the ending....if it weren't for the ending I would've easily recced this. But. here we are.

necromancer survival (manhwa): THIS ONE...MAY BE...A SPICY TAKE...and I tried so so hard to like it but it just did not click for me. I almost wish it didn't have romance bc imo it just was not well done at all. maybe I just read it too fast or something but the rship felt like it wen from 0 to 100 in a really short period of time, and a majority of the time it felt super unbalanced feelings-wise. i felt like the MC had super strong feelings for the ML but the ML like. didn't give a shit?? and the way the MC kept angsting over unrequited feelings got me like "ok that's enough. Stand Up". idk I was really mad that I didn't like it. not sure if I was mad at myself for having unreasonable expectations or mad at the story for being mid or mad at the community for hyping it up. everyone recs this as a good BL dungeon crawler but it just was not for me.

So uh. Big news. Draft #2 of Suddence is DONE! WAHOO!! 🎉 🎉 🎉 

This feels a little surreal because I remember in April, this draft was crawling along soooo slowlyyyy. What spurred me into such a writing frenzy? Well. First, it’s the idea that once I finish this draft, I can treat myself to some Lego splurging. Second, it’s me discovering that I first started writing Suddence on May 17th 2021, so I was like haha! Wouldn’t it be sooo symmetrical if I finished draft #2 on the same date! That’s not possible, but imagine!

But, fellas, as you can see, it was indeed possible.

So, this second draft! The first half is pretty solid, but since the second half is pretty new territory, it’s quite messy. But all the scenes are there, even if some are only summarized.

If you remember, originally this was supposed to be a novella, under 40k words. It was a short little thing for me to retreat from my big sci fi series that is APHELION. But now it’s already at 49k, and with the summarized scenes expanded, it’ll definitely be way past 50k. So I guess this is an official announcement that You Are Now Entering Suddence is now a novel! Wild.

I’ll take a good break from this story to clear my head, and I’ll take notes for the next draft when ideas come to me.

I’ve been writing in dark mode, with the page colour set to dark grey and the text set to white. Now that I finished the draft, I’m allowing myself to change the text to black and the page colour to cream like a ~regular book~. It’s exciting to think about eventually printing it out into a real, actual book hehe.

I don’t have many new excerpts to share since a lot of it is 1) messy 2) spoilery. So here’s just a bit of the first flashback chapter :^)

Also reminder for Vancouver peeps that I will be at VanCAF this weekend! I’ll be mildly marketing this blog and Suddence, but mostly I’ll be selling art and stickers. I don’t know how many of my followers are even Canadian, let alone in Vancouver, soooo we shall see.

Thanks for sticking along for this one! I know most of yall are probably more interested in APHELION, and for me to suddenly switch into something totally different might have been a little offputting. Like I said, I’m gonna take a break from writing for a bit, and then hopefully I’ll get back into APHELION!

CHAPTER 1

Dusk was arriving quickly, the sounds of many voices quaked from a canvas tent lacking any protection from the sides. The lights flickered slightly due to low energy as the lights were rigged carelessly through the camp. Zoom into the tent and a collective of men sat while rummaging through papers and listening to radios filled with static German voices. The single woman dressed sharply in an earth tone button down 3 piece suit and skirt was managing an evidence board. It had red string plastered across each little snippet of paper and small black and white photos. She sighed and looked over to the man done up in an American themed uniform with a hardened cowl. He was hunched over a map of the area of Germany and seemed to be pulling out locations right from his memory.

“Captain…are you sure you know where this base is? You have only a little intel and a hunch.” He snickered and looked up from the masses of paper swimming through anxious hands “miss Carter sometimes all you need is a hunch. I promise I wouldn’t do something I didn’t feel confident in.” Bucky, a man with groomed brown hair swooped to the side and in a worn in faded green soldier outfit looked towards his best friend, Captain America, or Steve as he called him “you know you make rather questionable decisions on hunches. Honestly saving me from that maniac with a red face probably wasn’t such a great approach at the time”

“You know what?” Steven interjected “you came out alive and got a tank, I would consider that a successful mission”

“YOU GOT MORE THAN THAT ROGERS!” boomed out a rather curvy, yet strong redhead, bearded man. He held onto his cap as he roared once more “you got us! Honestly you would have been hopeless without us!” He slammed his fist onto the table shaking the radio that a stashed gentleman was listening to. He began to swear in French at him before continuing to listen to the German seeping through it.

“Look, miss Carter. We are a strong team of 7 brave men. Whatever we have seen is all we will continue to see for a while. We can handle this and we will make Schmidt regret his decision to rule with an iron fist, isn’t that right Howlers?” And within a matter of seconds every single man lifted their heads and called out “WAHOO!”.

Agent Carter scoffed and rolled her eyes so intensely that the laughter of men went silent “well-“ she quickly adjusted her blouse before going back to the board “-you will need to be prepared. The intel we have received is dodgy, if it weren’t for Gabe here we wouldn’t have gotten even a grain of information”. The dark skinned gentleman, who was probably the most well dressed man in the crew saluted to miss Carter before he went back to translating more of the German coming through on the radio.

“So far what I have translated is that this new location of hydra is deep within the black Forest. Now, I must warn you this Forest is known for its ability to twist people around. It’s large, it’s confusing and it’s dark, not only that but it is known for its high count of predators. It may be silly but the German boar in these woods are most likely the most dangerous, and with the black coat you won’t be able to see them. The best equipment to bring is a few frags and sawed off shotguns. We also will need handguns and Barnes we need your talent as a sniper. And yes, dum dum, you may bring that new heavy hydra weapon you stole alongside the tank.”

Dum dum slammed his fist on the table one more time before aggressively pointing a finger at gabe.

“Hey, you know I only took it as a precaution. Plus I’m rather fond of my big girl Betty boop”

“Oh…you did NOT name your gun after a cartoon character” Bucky groaned in disbelief.

“Listen! She’s gorgeous, she sings and she brings men to their knees. How could I not name her after a cutie like that?” Dum dum began to chuckle a little before reaching towards his worn down m2 browning. Clearly loved through years of battle in this obnoxiously long world war.

Rogers cleared his throat rather loudly “I think we are getting off track here? Gabe’s trying to explain the next phase of our attack. Plus we are losing daylight” and with those last words all of the howling Commandos leaned in closer to gabe, chairs scraping across dirt ground. Now they were really ready to get the ball rolling.

“Well I’ve decided we need to split into teams. Team 1 will be dum dum and i, we kinda bonded over in hydra-”

“We sure did, bother” dum dum interjected quickly.

“-ladies, am I right? Okay okay, team 2 will be captain and Bucky of course. Team three will be Jaques, pinky and Jim. With the separations we will be able to cover more ground and find the base more efficiently. The black Forest is large so don’t underestimate how exhausting this journey will be. Now, any questions?”

Peggy Carter smiled softly before she raised a delicate hand into the air “yes, what exactly are we looking for? Is this base above ground? What other obstacles may be in store for your team here?”

Gabe paused as he pondered every question Peggy threw at him. He shook his head in disappointment and shrugged his shoulders “you know, Peggy? I have absolutely no idea what else to expect out there besides heavy guard patrols and the number of soldiers around the base. I have listened to this broadcast for hours and still haven’t discovered anything else. Whatever it is, Schmidt doesn’t want anyone to know a single thing….not even his own men.”

Rogers sighed heavily with conflicting emotions before rocking his chair back onto its two hind legs, supporting himself solely on balance “this could be a trap ... .Schmidt isn’t known for subtleties….trust me. We really need to stay in close contact. Also we need a location to meet if we can’t find anything before the first light of day.”

Everyone glanced over at Bucky who already seemed to be way ahead on planting a location on the map. He placed it right in the dead center of the Forest where a clearing was sitting. Bucky smirked, flashing a few teeth “well, since we have that figured out, how ‘bout we go kick some hydra ass?”

“Oh I have been anxiously waiting to bury my steel into some hydra soldiers, let’s get this show on the road before we miss a good opportunity” Jim spoke up, an exhausted japanese American with a five o’clock shadow and dark hair that nearly brushed his brow. He passionately slammed his fist into the palm of his left hand.

Moonrise, Black Forest border

The sound of crickets rose through the lingering woods that creaked in the sound of sharp breezes. The shadow of the trees loomed upon the men, the only light that escaped through the branches was little floating green fireflies and shards of broken moonlight. The sound of the wind howled like a wolf, bringing a sense of fear and wariness to the squad of men that stood in the outskirts of the Barrier of trees and moss. The dread of something unknown hung strongly upon them, if a hydra base was within these woods why was it so eerily quiet?

Captain America took a few steps forwards and fluidly spun on his heels to look at the 6 men that were going to fight all night for his cause. He let out an exasperated sigh before straightening out his stance “men…..we have already experienced near death together, and I am ashamed to ask you to do it again, but I would not choose a different crew to be by my side. Remember, you are howling commandos, you are the Spartans of this age. Do not let this darkness wrap around your mind, do not forget we will come running to your position as fast as possible if any trouble occurs. When we enter this Forrest we must remind ourselves why we are here. We are here to end the continuous abuse of control Schmidt has decided he deserves to have. Do not cave in, do not surrender”

All the men stepped closer, lifting arms in salute “yes captain” they all said in unison with big smiles. Of course they think his speeches are a little dramatic, but it still brought a sense of peace to the men, especially because the dread of the Forrest was leaching onto their souls.

“Now let’s head out. No time to waste, hydra gets closer to victory the longer we wait” captain added with a tinge of courage as he led his team into the Forest. The others followed suit and broke off into different directions. It was now time to leave no stone unturned.

“SEE YOU FOR DRINKS AFTER ROGERS! Remember you’re paying! Must have made a lot of money from all those showgirl tours you were on!” Dum dum roared with laughter as a way to get one more joke in before he could no longer see the rest of his company.

“Must be nice Steve. I’ve been serving in this military longer than you and gained the title of Sargent, but you got way more money than I did in a quarter of the time” Bucky huffed with sarcasm. Of course he didn’t truly mean it, but whatever makes his friends gears grind for a second. Rogers only let out a single laugh before shoving him slightly.

“I thought it wasn’t all about the money. What was it? For glory?” Steve bickered back.

“Pffft, glory? No, it was to impress the gals back home.” Bucky puffed out his chest and adjusted his tired wool and cotton blend sage green uniform.

“You and all these men, that’s all you think about is girls”

“What? And you’re not eyeballing agent carter?” Bucky snarked with a cheerful grin.

Rogers' smile left his face for a second as he gave his friend a warning filled glare, it only lasted a brief moment before he looked ahead and realized they were finally in the belly of the beast, the shadows all around them consuming the vision they had. Bucky and Rogers both pulled out a flashlight and turned it on, hoping to reach through the dense fog that was beginning to brew. From here on out they knew a silent and well adapted presence was needed to lurk through these unrelenting woods. Only god knew what was in store for the howling commandos now, and from the looks of it…..the plan wasn’t riddled with riches and success. It was drowning in pain, misery and lack of faith in humanity.

“To the end of the line, captain?” Bucky spoke as soft as a mouse, for he got the captain 's message.

“Till the end of the line, buck”
