To me the saddest part of Jacks story is that he never gets to escape his cage think about it Sally is able to escape and become anything she wants Sally gets to choose. Jack never gets to choose he’s forever the Pumpkin 🎃 King 👑 never to be anything else. He can leave his cage but can’t go far even in the book LLTPQ Sally can leave whenever she wants but he’s trapped but at least Sally is there to keep him company.

See, it's why I can't get behind the whole 'Jack being an elected official' or being 'voted into' being the Pumpkin King, because then he could resign, right? But in the movie, he makes it pretty clear that he feels trapped and *can't* give up his crown, despite wishing he could. While it could be read as Jack being fiercly loyal to his people + position, I see it as a birthright of his that he can't leave from, which explains his dilemma perfectly.

I also think that was an interesting point in LLTPQ...Sally running away when her Queenly expectations + duties overwhelmed her. This isn't a slight against her character at all, it's just interesting to think that Jack had to deal with his own stress (and this was him ruling over everything by himself), and pull through it alone. He couldn't just run away from things - hell, Halloween Town fell apart when he was missing for just a short amount of time, which shows how heavily relied on he is, and why he can't just leave his people, even when he feels suffocated by it. They depend on him like life itself.

This is why I genuinely wish Sally had reached out to Jack and got a good opportunity to talk out her issues with the Queenly stress + expectations in LLTPQ, because I KNOW Jack can relate to that and help her! I really hope we get to see how much Sally's assistance and presence helps take a good workload off of Jack's back, and gives the town another person to rely and trust besides him.
