Two week old kitten I recently oxidized. I got some flack about the pose but it was requested by the person who owns this little babe. I’m quite happy with it and that’s all that matters.

So I was gifted a snake and I just found a bird outside my therapists office. Both of which have really small bones and I don't think I can decompose them like I usually do for fear of losing/damaging bones (nature or masceration tank). I don't have any beetles or anything. Any suggestions for how I can go about this? I get really emotional when I do any form of work with knives on animals so I don't know if I could do that
First off since bird remains were mentioned without a location: if you're in the US the Migratory Bird Treaty Act applies so I'd advise leaving the bird outside. There's also restrictions for people in the EU. There are protected and unprotected species so there's a chance it could be legal otherwise, but please be mindful of the laws if this applies to you.
There's a few different options you could utilize though.
While it can have a learning curve, you could try the oxidation method. Essentially you'll soak the animal in hydrogen peroxide instead of water. This should make removing the body tissue manually a bit easier without the skeleton falling apart and is ideally a method used for very small animals who area more difficult to clean. It's a more difficult method to utilize though, so be prepared for a lot of hands-on work. If using knives on an animal isn't your thing this may not be the method for you. No matter what method you use it's advised to clean off as much meat manually as possible though.
If you did want to use maceration you still very well could. Remove as much flesh as possible and use a fine mesh strainer when draining off water. You'll just have to be more meticulous about going through what's in the strainer when you pour out water for changes or the finished product so you don't accidentally throw out any bones with flesh bits.
Another method would be utilizing a "rot pot" for a controlled natural decomposition. It's the same concept as using burial or leaving a carcass out to rot, only instead of leaving or burying it out in the open somewhere you're using a planter box/pot. Be mindful that some animals can still carry off bones (magpies are the worst about it in my area) so you'll need to make sure to prevent that, but if you leave it open for flies and other bugs they'll definitely help the process.
Hope this helps and your bone cleaning goes well!

Vulture Culture Problems (2) (Haha there is indeed more):
Trying to find a mask that can at least somewhat block the smell of the maceration bucket.
Bonus: Opening the lid and immediately shutting it again because you didn't expect how bad it would be this time.
(yes I am making these because of my current project)
#Listen I have an awful sense of smell and the last time I did maceration I couldn't smell it at all#I should've expected that it would smell worse because it's a much bigger bucket and it's mostly skulls but oh BOY#vulture culture#vulture culture problems

Found an illegal dump site today. Only took the one photo, but there were 5 partial whitetail deer skeletons across maybe a quarter mile of the road. All were shot (shotgun shells present and pellets in some of the bones/on the ground near the bones). Found two doe skulls, and I'm pretty certain it's illegal to kill female deer. Processing the bones I recovered over the next couple of weeks. There were so many vertebral disks, so I'm gonna have a field day making heart-shaped stuff from those :3
#vulture culture#bone#skull#vc#bones#dead#oddities#skeleton#illegal dumping#I've never found a site like this before so it was kind of exciting#there's a massive deer problem in the area i found these in so i don't feel it's immoral for someone to have shot them#like. i used to live out that way and there were constantly accidents because of deer overpopulation.#i also found an opossum skull. but it disintegrated when i touched it - as they tend to do.

PSA but collecting shed antlers and bones from the forest in large quantities is not environmentally friendly. Small rodents often rely on these for their calcium sources and the mass removal of antlers and bones from forests can have detrimental effects on their populations.

Modern Elites is a 18+ raunchy slice-of-life IF that follows you, a young royal, navigating the world of the obscenely rich and immensely famous while trying to keep your elite, royal family together in the midst of drama and tabloids.
Setting: modern times, fictional tiny country of Selusa, New York, Paris and more.
Genre: slice-of-life, drama, romance
Celebrity. Pop Culture Icon. Heir.
Royal.
As the heir to the Selusan throne, you're known by many names. Growing under the spotlight hasn't been easy, especially since it seems the vultures all want a piece of your elusive family. Country clubs, yachts, parties, private jets, elite schools, you've had it all.
But is there something missing?
Customize your heir from appearance to gender identity to personality. Dictate what kind of person they are: rebellious, dutiful. Do they care about the royal line or are parties more on their mind? Will you keep a squeaky clean rep or ruin the family name?
Customize Salusa and cater the country to your taste.
Dictate what kind of leader you want to be, and how others percieve you.
Experience the life of the hidden .01% and the drama of the ultra wealthy.
Engage in fiery, dramatic romances that could either uplift or ruin you and your family.
and more to come.
THE ADVISOR
Imogen/Ian Lancaster [f/m]- your family's advisor and publicist. I has cleaned up every mess, every leak, every scandal and at this point, there are no secrets between your family and them. Coming from a well-off family themselves, they know exactly how this world works...and they navigate it with a steel will and a cold, detached demeanor. I has you handled like an adult with a child, trying (and probably failing) to keep you in line. Anything you do will go through them, so it's better to think twice.
THE BETROTHED
Everett/Eva St. Clare [m/f] - the eldest of one of the most influential businessmen on your side of the world, black sheep, and a source of gossip in polite society, there have been talks of a betrothal between you two since the partnership started. Because of that, you two are forced into a fake romance for the cameras. E is an arrogant and brash casanova, sex-obsessed, and is proudly noncommital with string of rumors that follow them like their own entourage. Unfortunately for you, E's exploits can damage the carefully constructed facade you two have built. Of course, E doesn't give a damn.
THE REBEL
Vince/Vivian De Grasso [m/f] - (secretly) fresh out of jail and newly reformed (not) V's politician of a mother has asked in a favor from your family: to reform them and stifle their rebellious ways by adding them to your security detail. Your father having a soft spot for the kid, brings them in as one of your guards. Hopefully V keeps in line...or not.
THE COMMONER
Cordelia/Corden Bowen [f/m]- an employee at the country club you frequent, someone less polite would call them a 'nobody.' C has a bit of an attitude, but that's expected from someone who is used to getting berated by rich people all day. There's not much else to say about them...or maybe there is?
THE JOURNALIST
Romi Marshall [m/f]- a famed journalist with contempt for royalty and elitism. Their newsletters frequently slam you and your family's every move, and they don't like you one bit. You can confidently say they're your biggest hater.
THE ROYAL BEST FRIEND
Oliver/Olivia Ames-Astor [m/f]- a fellow prince/princess from another country and your best friend, who is still hung up on their ex. Forced to betroth someone else, O has so many problems you can hardly sort through them. Still, they're kind and as polite as you'd expect from a person who has had etiquette lessons drilled into them since childhood. They're also your best friend, so there's that.

i found a possum about 2 months ago and buried her in my yard (cant do many other methods to clean her up bc of family, wildlife, and our dog) kinda just wanted to share but also ask for some tips for the future. i buried her as is, though shed been a bit picked at bc roadkill. in the future should i be trying to manually skin/deflesh her before burial? and are there any good guides on how to do so for a complete beginner? and approx how long do you think it'll take for her to decompose just in the yard? is there a best practice for burials like this with hope of retrieving bones, like should i have placed her in a cloth bag or maybe on a tray first? sorry for all the questions, i just wanna make sure im doing better next time and the resources id been looking at before have disappeared in the reddit blackout. thank you so much!
I hope it's going well!
When it comes to burial there's a few things you can do to help:
Remove as much tissue as possible before burying. While not necessary this can help speed up the process a bit, and help prevent scavengers from being as tempted to dig up the animal you're burying (especially if you toss the remains further away for wildlife to eat).
Use a mesh sack or bone cage (for larger bones) when burying. A bone cage can prevent animals from digging up your buried specimen, and having some form of containment helps make it easy to find all the bones again. Otherwise you'll be sifting through the dirt looking for every little lost tooth, claw, and smaller bones, which will migrate. Never underestimate how much worms and insects will move around bones in addition to things like the dirt just settling as the body decomposes.
Overall the process is pretty simple. A cloth bag can work or a lot of people use wire mesh. Whatever you use you want to make sure small insects and bacteria can access the carcass without losing anything in the process.
It's common to have to follow up burial with maceration. If left buried too long bones will begin to decompose, or may grow plant life on them, or even begin to rust if any metal (such as a bone cage) is touching them which can cause permanent staining. I've personally left a coyote buried in my yard without a bone cage/sack and after about a year the skull had begun to break down and many bones I wasn't able to find. There's no exact time estimates anyone can give for burial since it depends on so many different factors but do make sure to check in on your opossum in a timely manner. Mistakes can always make for great opportunities to learn so don't be afraid to try and fail and figure out what works best for you!
Here's a couple of resources you can utilize:
Mom Goes Camping
Jake's Bones
BACCYFLAP
Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties
A Reddit Board in r/bonecollecting

Who cares if JB likes WOC instagram posts because whenever he is seen with women on the beach or in clubs they are white.
On his documentary everyone in his house was white. Most of the people he flew out to watch were white.
His celeb crush is white.
His heroes are white (dad, zizou, beckham, rooney, gerrard).
Musically he singles out ed sheeran and elvis, how he idolizes elvis is mind bending to me he was the og culture vulture.
Even his barber for his black hair is white.
Has he ever even praised a black footballer from before his time as someone he looked up to?
He can't even get a black stylist.
He makes fun of Cama's hair in the same way white people do!
I really truly mean no harm I just want to know how his black female fans are not bothered by this at all? Trent gets a lot of hate for identifying more with his white side but Jude is the same way, if Denise didn't babysit him as much it would be a lot more obvious.
oh my gosh abt the fuck uppppp 😭😭
first of all ur very late this conversation was over and done with but since u wanna be weird i’ll give u the attention ur begging for
nobody cared who jude is seen with at the beach or club. like literally nobody and they’re not always white but that’s not even the point here
on his documentary not everyone was white either. but i think ur forgetting that his father is literally white so he has some white family members. family members that he is CLOSE with. denise’s side of the family was also included in his documentary but ur gonna ignore that part to prove ur point.
elvis presley being his favorite singer doesn’t prove ur point. lots of people enjoy his music, that’s normal.
his barber who is also his friend has been cutting him and jobe’s hair for years. that literally means nothing. he goes to camavinga’s brother to get a haircut sometimes as well but again u will ignore that part. if he likes the way his current barber cuts his hair then what’s the problem?
im gonna assume u don’t know jude at all bc he had always praised black footballers/athletes. literally all the time especially his teammates 😭
what the hell does his stylist have to do with anything LMFAOO??? like okay his stylist isn’t black so what????
jude never made fun of cama’s hair. the only thing he did about his hair was post a picture of cama and put the pineapple emoji which is clearly an harmless inside joke??? even cama put’s a pineapple emoji to imitate his own hair 😭 that’s not making fun of it
u just said jude has black hair but then say he’s making fun of someone else’s black hair. makes no sense
jude is in touch with his black side and not afraid to show it. he’s always talked about how proud he is of his skin in interviews. the man faced racism all fucking summer and u come here saying this shit….
like u pissed me off just now

Darren Criss embraces technology and his mixed heritage in his Broadway premiere
Late last month, I spoke with Darren Criss for his upcoming Broadway premiere, Maybe Happy Ending, in which he plays a robot (a Helperbot to be specific) named Oliver who’s been deemed obsolete by technological standards. Another Helperbot, Claire, asks to borrow his charger, and thus begins a unique friendship between the two.
Maybe Happy Ending was written and produced in both Korean and English and has had performances all over the world. This production features Asian American creatives both on stage and behind the scenes. Criss himself identifies as half-Filipino on his mother’s side, and has said his feelings on his identity have evolved over the years. In 2018, he was quoted in Vulture saying that he did not identify as Asian American. In 2020, he would later shift his perspective after playing a half-Filipino character in Ryan Murphy’s Hollywood, telling People:
“It’s a tricky cocktail in America ... Anyone who is biracial can attest to this: No matter how much or how little they look like their respective mix, it’s a constant work in progress … I’ve always been proud of my heritage, of being Filipino. Just because people don’t see it, doesn’t make it any less real to me.”
I got the chance to speak with Criss not just about identity, but about his career at large, how he relates to the character of Oliver, and what audiences will take from Maybe Happy Ending.
This interview has been edited for clarity and length.
Bri Ng Schwartz: As a biracial person with Asian identity, how does it feel to be working on a show that’s been produced and written in both Korean and American? Darren Criss: This show isn’t categorically an Asian show. It is very much a universal human’s show, but it happens to celebrate and represent a large degree of Asian-ness. Anytime you can show up for your cultural identity, that’s always a very exciting thing. It’s very exciting that the vast majority of people working on the show, on stage and off, are of Asian American mix and descent. The Asian experience is not a singular experience. It’s a very large breadth of backgrounds, so it’s been fun for all of us to bring our own experiences and stories to the table.
BNS: I saw you about 10 years ago at the Belasco when you were starring as Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. DC: Oh boy. This will be a little different.
BNS: Yeah, definitely different. As you return to the Belasco for Maybe Happy Ending, how do you think you’ve evolved as a performer in the last 10 years? DC: I hopefully have evolved as a person. If I’m the same person that was 10 years ago, then we have a serious problem. I’m just still trying to learn, still trying to connect as many dots as I can. Hopefully I never know the answer to that.
BNS: We are forever learning as humans. DC: Exactly.
BNS: I spoke to your former on-screen father, Jon Jon Briones, a couple of months ago. DC: He’s the best, and he was part of this production! This show has been around in many iterations for a long time, and he actually was part of a reading several years ago. We find ourselves connected yet again, me and Jon Jon. He’s awesome. He’s the best.
BNS: Do you take any advice or inspiration from people like Jon Jon or other seasoned Broadway vets in your work? DC: There are these goalposts that artists may think are the be-all and end-all of what makes a successful career. Jon Jon’s consistency and longevity are the goalposts. He’s one of these guys, if I mention his name, half of the room knows him or has worked with him. There are a lot of guys like Jon Jon who just are constantly a part of things. And that’s the goal. Success in devoting yourself long form to the craft, which he has done in spades.
BNS: In Maybe Happy Ending you play Oliver, a Helperbot 3. Do you think there are any parallels between you and how Oliver perceives the world? DC: I am endlessly curious and endlessly trying to download and learn as much as I can from the world around me, whether consciously or unconsciously. I happen to be a human being, and Oliver is not.
I’m still getting under the skin of this guy, of this robot. I’m finding a lot of parallels as far as the desire to please. I always say I’m in the service industry. I service ideas and emotions and people. That is my vocation. My programming.
BNS: Do you think that audiences are going to walk away from this show feeling differently about their technology? DC: Technology becomes more human in the way we treat it. When people put away their phones, they get sad. They’re like an appendage. We’ve already started to ascribe emotional connectivity to our non-human components. People will walk away with perhaps a more emotional experience with the human components they have in their life.
The battery life that our devices have are a microcosm metaphor for our own battery life, our own shelf life, and our own energy. The finite amount of time that we have, and really coming to peace with the idea that we are a transient technology ourselves, considering that, and hopefully, making sure that your battery life is spent on the right things, I think is the thing I hope people walk away with this show.
On top of hopefully singing the songs, because they’re beautiful.
BNS: They really are. Thank you so much for taking the time today. On behalf of mixed theater kids everywhere, thank you. I don’t think I would be who I am without having you to look up to. DC: Thank you for letting me be a part of it.
